The Color of Revenge

- The book is finished

- Direct quote from Cornelia:

"I admit, I'm very in love with this book. It will, in many ways, be different from the other Inkworld books since it takes places five years later and the two main characters are definitely Dustfinger and the Black Prince.

That means there will be two story lines, two separate efforts to stop Orpheus' revenge. Dustfinger, Farid and Jehan (Dustfinger's stepson) will travel with the Strong Man.

Meanwhile the Black Prince, along with Battista, will be with a young witch named Driope... who will... hm... probably explain why Fox has a fox pelt. So the fox will be mentioned but not- not in the way the cover seems to imply. The story will be about witches, good ones and evil ones, it will... I had so much fun finally getting more into the Prince's story, I wanted to do that since I wrote Inkspell. And now Nyame, which is his first name I hadn't revealed so far, will really be in the spotlight this time. Colors, too- are pictures more powerful than words? We will see... and I think the answer will surprise us all.

Part of the story will take place around Ombra, which looks a lot like Tuskany, where I live right now. Other parts will take place in South Tyrol, which we already know from Reckless.

I let the story surprise me. It went completely differently than how I initially imagined, that's always a good sign. There were plottwist I couldn't have predicted, I learned a lot, met characters I didn't know very well before... And I hope that I have another book in me because after this, there are still a thousand stories to tell. But that's how all my stories end, so... We'll see. I definitely wrote it with so so so much joy and I hope some of that joy will infect the readers once they have the book in their hands.

Reckless

- She is preparing Reckless 5, which she calls a huge challenge

- It will involve African fairy tales and Cornelia is realising how little she knows about African history so she's been doing a lot of research. Since she explored the Black Prince's roots in TCoR, she is looking forward to see possible parallels between the Inkworld and the Mirrorworld again

The Wild Chicks

- Cornelia has recently been made aware that The Wild Chicks are trending on Tiktok. She obviously had no idea. She heard that they are seen as idols because even 30 years ago they were growing their own food, saving chickens and featured lesbians

- The idea is to do something with those characters and environmentalism because it would fit very well but there are no concrete plans yet

- Of course there are also those scripts about the characters at 30. Plans have been changed - instead of a movie, Cornelia wants to turn it into a six part TV show. This would give every character room to breathe. Of course, there would be a book to go along with this

Misc.

- Cornelia wishes she was ginger. She doesn't want to dye her hair, she just wants to naturally be ginger. Maybe in the next life

- Cornelia talks about her Christmas project again. She wants all her artists to draw christmas trees which the writer's will then tell little stories about

- One of Cornelia’s next plans is to get environmentalists and artists together and come up with more hopeful narratives about the future of the planet. She is tired of apocalypse stories

- "The Green Kingdom" is finished and will be released next spring

- Cornelia's Italian is getting better and she hopes she will be able to do a few readings in Italian next year. She will be on stage in Germany next month for the first time since covid hit and is very excited about it

- If Cornelia had the chance to sit down and talk to any fictional character, she would like to choose the three musketeers or Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride

- Despite all the wonderful Italian food she's been eating, Cornelia remains loyal to the potato

- In Cornelia's experience, publishers often try to stop authors and illustrators from communicating directly because they don't want them to unionize. She encourages everyone to ignore this and talk to each other

Day seven of my return to the high seas, wrote Stede in his journal. Since Lucius was no longer around to take dictation, the journal existed only in his head. Morale is low, I will not lie.

Patterns - I'm a big fan of in media res (it worked for Homer and it works for me) and so I like to start in the middle of things. I'm also trained to write hooks for people with short attention spans, so my first lines tend to be crunchy. The one exception is the first on the list, which is from speak easy, swing hard, the 1920s Prohibition-era Avengers AU I wrote for @nostalgicatsea as part of @marveltrumpshate. I wanted it to evoke the wild, chaotic tempo of a hot jazz number (something like the intro to this) so most of it is a pile-up of a long run-on sentence, and the writing continues in this fashion until Tony shows up to calm things down, whereupon the paragraphs go back to being a brief couple of lines each. I learnt this trick from seeing how translators handle action sequences in wuxia novels.

How much I think Percy Jackson characters like Taylor Swift:

Percy: 100% a swiftie. He’s a reputation and lover stan but has a special spot for state of grace (your my Achilles heel lyric is the reason why) and loves this is why we can't have Nice things (its the mama lyric). and obviously 1989 is the album the got him really into Taylor. Dancing around to you are in love with Annabeth in his moms living kitchen. and he loves welcome to New York (no shit)

Annabeth: adores her. Speak now stan. Better than revenge TV was on REPLAY when Rachel was around. Cries to The Last Time (TV). She has a special spot for RED TV because that is the album she played during Percys disappearance and lets just say she can't listen to forever winter without crying. Associates happiness with her dad and my tears riochet with Luke. Loves Cornelia Street because to Annabeth, she thinks of the sea and how the boy with sea green eyes will always be there.

Grover: debut and fearless stan. Is the one that introduced Percy to Taylor when they were all 12. Loves playing hey Stephan and I’m only me when I’m with you on his reed pipés. It reminds him of Juniper

Thalia: not really (I hate to say it as a Thalia lover) but she doesn’t mind as long as she doesn’t have to hear shake it off on Grover’s reed pipes

Luke: NO. He listens to Kanye and hates Taylor "she only writes about the guys that did her wrong" and thinks Annabeth is childish because she listens to her

Clarisse: vibes to reputation with Silena. She can’t listen to anything Taylor ESPECIALLY lover without silena in her mind. she hears the opening lines to long live and cries

Silena: biggest swiftie at Camp. Is a Midnight and Speak Now girlie (a WCS girlie - she replaces the 19 with 13; the age Luke munipated her) also Loves high infidelity for some reason. People think she loves Lover which she does but Speak Now means more because that was the time she became a swiftie. She remembers acting out Speak Now (the song) with her sisters Lacy and Drew, as she used her crush Charlie to be the guy that her (the wedding crasher) ends up with. Loves castles crumbing and nothing new

Connor Stoll: No but he steals the vinyls for Silena to play on the loud speakers of Camp because she would use secrets against so he was under her

Travis: he would deny If anyone asked but he listens to the way I loved you and thinks of Katie. No one thinks he likes Taylor but folklore is his favorite

Katie: she loves Haunted stan thanks to Silena and believes that Long Story Short is her song

To say you were nervous would be an understatement. A few weeks ago you had been invited to a premiere of the new Jordan Peele film “Nope” and totally hit it off with Daniel Kaluuya. The actor who plays OJ, you got his number and he finally asked you out a week ago. Now you had spent hours getting ready, in a dress that accentuated you perfectly. Your hair was done in your favorite style that you always got compliments on.

But if Daniel said he wasn’t nervous he’d be lying. He had spent hours picking out a suit, he eventually settled on a navy blue coat and slacks with a black button up underneath the jacket. He did everything necessary and more for tonight to be perfect. The minute you said yes to the date he made reservations at one of the fanciest restaurants in the area. He had gone to a flower shop his sister said she loved and picked out your favorite flowers which you had made a point to mention the first time you talked. Everything had to go perfectly because he really saw a future with you and hoped you saw the same.

The time came and Daniel pulled up to your house, he considered sending a text but decided he wanted to be formal. He came up to your door and gave it a quick three knocks. You heard them and quickly headed down to the door. You opened it and you swear you saw his jaw drop.

“You look gorgeous tonight love” he says, in awe.

“You look amazing as well Daniel” you smile bashfully. He holds the flowers out to you.

“These are for you babe” you thank him and invite him into your house so you can quickly set down the flowers. Once you are done he leads you out to the car and opens the passenger door for you. A proper gentleman, just like you knew he would be. He gets into the driver's seat and makes small talk with you.

“So what you been up to since we last talked?” he said in that accent you loved so much.

“Um nothing really, I went out with my cousin the other night” you smile and he grabs you hand, giving it a light squeeze.

“Tha’s great sweetheart” he chuckles and you blush.

“Thank you so much for the flowers Daniel, I can’t believe you remembered that those were my favorite”

“Of course I remembered that when the most beautiful girl i’ve eva seen said it”' he turned the car and suddenly you were at the restaurant. You blushed as he crossed around and opened your door for you.

“Woah Daniel this place is so nice” you gawk at the beautiful restaurant in front of you.

“ts nothin’ darlin’” he smiles and puts his hand on the small of your back as you walk in. He walks up to the hostess and smiles at her with his arm still around your waist. He gives her your names and she leads you to a table.

“This so so beautiful” you speak, getting over how insane this was, how much it felt like a dream. “It’s so perfect”

“Anythin’ fo’ you babe” he smiles and gives you hand a gentle squeeze across the table. You spent a bit looking at the menu and ordering what Daniel had suggested. You were completely enamored by him, loved watching him talk and asking him questions. You loved when he showed interest in your life. You loved hearing him talk about his movies, especially Us and Spiderman. Two of your favorite movies.

Despite being friends for over a year you felt such a connection with Daniel that was so natural. Something about him always called out to you and when he asked you out you were sure that you would explode. He was so beautiful and flirty and kind. He was so genuinely interested in you and what you had to say.

Dinner went beautifully and as you finally wrapped up and got into the car he drove you home, continuing the conversation about both of you. He walked you to the door and smiled at you.

“I had such a great time tonight sweetheart” he smiles

“Me too” you grab his hand for the millionth time that night

“Can we do this again?”

“I’d like that” you gave him a hug goodbye and reluctantly went inside to silently freak the fuck out.

Marcelo Dos Reis & Luís Vicente — (Un)Prepared Pieces for Guitar and Trumpet (Cipsela)

The title nicely expresses the paradox of this music’s making. Guitarist Marcelo dos Reis and trumpeter Luís Vicente had been playing together in various settings for a dozen years before they made this record. That’s a whole lot of preparation for the moment at hand. On the other hand, only one of the album’s eight tracks, “Cornelia,” was composed prior to its performance, and a close listen reveals instant decisions in its transitions from forlorn ballad to agitated point-counterpoint and back again.

So, maybe it’s handy to find points of reference outside of the composition vs. improvisation continuum when making sense of this music. Each musician has a distinctive voice, one that builds on early experiences and identifiable influences, but also expresses their personal attitude towards the enterprise of making music. Alongside the rudimentary brass repertoire that any schooled player learns when coming up, there’s a lot of Don Cherry in Vicente’s moments of fragility, some Lester Bowie in his ability to shift between sound effects and straighter sounds, and the sort of robust presence that you’re bound to pick up if you’re not inclined to be blown off the stage when you play with roughnecks like John Dikeman and Onno Govaert, or elder eminences like William Parker and Hamid Drake. Since dos Reis came to freer music through an outward-bound rock, one can hear his comfort with the tonal reach and timbral variety conferred by amplification and electronic effects, as well as the sharpened attention to other musicians’ expressive details that comes from playing in chamber-improv ensembles.

This attunement is something that the two players share, and it comes into play again and again throughout (Un)Prepared Pieces for Guitar and Trumpet. On “One Deer At A Car Window,” shivering, bowed guitar and whinnying, muted trumpet sway together, shifting infinitesimally closer, then pushing off from one another; these guys know how to have one another’s backs at the same time that they’re looking for their own way forward. They also share a respect for sturdy melodies, which they can plant and nurture in real time, as they do on the bold yet vulnerable “Grizzly Bear.” They don’t just play together; they speak a common language, fluently and accessibly.

Azure Gleam - Ch 3

It says it's prologue, but it's the third chapter of the game, so that's what I'm calling it.

In case you're wondering. Yes, I despise that person now. First villain I've ever truly HATED in this game.

STORY

I love how Arval calls what happened to Tomas a "conclusion."

Still seems weird they trust Shez so fast.

Though, I wonder if Dimitri recognizes her power as the same as those from Duscur and will suspect her?

Dimitri being a sweetie and checking on Shez. Assuring her that her power isn't evil, it's just a matter of who is using it. And hearing him speak somewhat positively of his own strength this time. 😊😊😊 I should've known it would be him being nice instead.

RODRIGUE, my beloved 😊😊😊 But we didn't get to see him

So it was Rufus. Not surprised. Declaring war on Rodrigue. Gross. Felix sounded pissed.

Wow, Rufus, trying to claim Rodrigue wants to make Dimitri his puppet king. That takes some imagination. Or is it just Cornelia using him?

Dimitri telling everyone to calm down and not rush to conclusions. Good for him.

Rhea sending help! Good. So who is in our unit. It's Catherine, right?

So no Sylvain or Felix in the camp? They're not here in the discussion. I'm proud of Ashe for making his own choice, but I can sympathize with Annette.

Oh, Felix and Sylvain and Rodrige are here!!!! YESS, good, only Annette is missing. I love her and all, but it's the Faerghus 4 + Dedue that have me in a chokehold.

Waiiiiittt, are they suggesting Rufus was involved in Duscur? An NPC only said it so far, but that is an interesting idea.

WAIT, WHAT????? Rufus had Dimitri under basically house arrest, spied on, and went through all his letters??? WTF??? Was it really Rufus or Cornelia? Poor Dimitri. That explains why he's so distant from everyone.

I love this random NPC student woman ready to throw down for Dimitri. You and me both, girlll.

WAIT! Duh, it's not Catherine, it's Gilbert!! OMG, yes, and that's why they had Annette leave.

I love how the knights seem to actively want Dimitri to lead and want to work under him, not Rufus (or Cornelia).

I'm 100% doubting Felix's denial that he's not bothered by the false rumors about Rodrigue.

Yeesh, Rufus is a real shithole, hunh. If you piss Dedue off, you're probably a trash level human being. And he tried to harm Dimitri countless times? The writers just love beating up on Dimitri.

So that campaign Dimitri put down was an attempt to kill him? And Rufus send assassins after Dimitri??

I mean, I always kinda headcannoned that Dimitri's life after Duscur had to be a living hell because all of his father's closest allies (sans Rodrigue, Gautier, and Galatea) got killed, but it's kinda cool to see headcannon go cannon.

And no wonder he and Dedue are attached at the hip. They were probably both targeted for violence quite a bit.

I made Dimitri laugh 😭

Am I bias, or is Dimitri and Shez seem more natural/cuter than the other lords. I know, I'm just bias.

STORY

Ohh, a Rufus portrait! Yeah, Lambert won in the looks department, hunh.

Dimitri wants to resolve this without bloodshed.

Rufus just . . . ripped the letter up. And called Dimitri a "creature." And keeps trying to kill him.

And . . . calls him a rapid animal . . . uhhh, wonder where I've heard that before. Like, Rufus is talking about Dimitri, the same way he talks about himself. And Felix. I wonder how much he heard that shit from Rufus.

Like, I can't remember that last time I hated a character so much so fast.

This is going full Hamlet/Lion King, guys. He helped set up Duscur, the asshole.

Cornelia really is the only effective member of TWSITD.

Why does this game always have Dimitri have to kill his family.

Felix being helpful as always lol.

And Dimitri avoided this for so long to avoid civil war and avoid killing his uncle. But so happy Shez is supporting him.

BATTLE

Guys, I cannot wait to get to the mini-camp thing in this route. The other two routes had such cool lore bits and etc . . .

STORY

Cut scene time.

Dimitri's killing his family again. Shit. Why. He's way too young for this. And Rufus is spewing vile shit right until the end. This is hardcore for an FE game.

Geeze. Why. 😭 Look I don't care about Rufus, but Dimitri. Why.

Wait, is that Sylvain's dad??? HOW MANY DADS? WHY NO MOMS.

Yep! Guessed right.

That said, Rufus is a shit. He deserved that. Dimitri didn't.

Is this route going to be about finding TWSITD/Duscur? Just how many people played a role in Duscur?

Dimitri telling the truth to everyone. That's my boy. He's always the one that comes clean of the three lords. And we love him for it.

And clearing Duscur's name, no matter what the cost. We stan a legend. God, this is exactly what AM was missing. SOOOO glad AG is carrying it out.

Wait, Rodrigue retiring and handing it to Felix? Why? I like this change for Felix, but why?

FUCK YES!!! Dedue + Rodrigue team up to restore Duscur wasn't on my AG bingo card exactly, but it's hype as shit. And Rodrigue volunteering to take the blame for Duscur to keep Dimitri's name clear 😭😭😭

Rodrigue just telling it to Felix straight. But Dimitri saying he's going to talk to Felix anyways. Because Felix can't go back to school now either. I just love, Dimitri, ok? This is so the opposite of the other lords who just never talk to anyone and hide everything.

And Dimitri telling Gustav you're staying put. Not putting up with his shit. "I will make a place for you." 😭😭😭😭

Reorganizing the army?

Dimitri working too much and not sleeping. Name a more iconic duo.

Oh, great, he's promoting Shez too, lamo. But smart to make his own private army removed from Rufus, wanting people strictly loyal to him. But he's supposed to be the stupid one.

Wait, army of commoners?? What about the status quo? And doing it because he understands the commoners have much harder work?

Man, Dimitri over here making all the changes. I seriously love this so far. But unless Dimitri or the other Blue Lions got bad writing, I was always going too lol.

Ah, Shez accepted with no prodding from Arval? These two are kind of sweet.

New York, November 12, 1856

My dear Charley,

I hope you will have read the several letters I have lately forwarded to you covering land warrants. I hope everything has been to your satisfaction it may be that one of the bills was written 90 8/4 in lieu of 90 ¾ tho’ carried over correctly $600.00. The young man in Thompson’s mentioned it to me as possible tho’ my impression was if the bill was properly made out. Mama is very much better tho’ not allowed to do much in the way of house keeping. She was very much delighted with your letter and felt the more happy as just at the time she was in the pleasant glow arriving from your letter my little boys came in on a visit. Schuyler perched himself on her lap and Ray got as near her as possible so that she felt very happy. This morning I gave them quite a treat. I caught a mouse and put a string around its neck. My reason for so doing being Ray had an idea that mice were dangerous his nurse when he was a little fellow having put it in his head and I desired to remove this impression. Well[?] mouse was just near the fire to recover himself from the cold bath employed In his capture and Schuyler took him in his hands. Ray …thing did the same and they examined his whiskers and his eyes and his claws and Ray remarked Mr. Audubon ought to be there to give an account of him but their Pop said ..you could do it as well. A small trap was then procured and the mouse was duly fed with bread and tongue[?] and became the pet of the hour. Ray desiring to put him in the sun where he would be warm and nice. This is good education is it not?

The boys have now both pigeons and chickens and are very happy. Cornelia too is the same we sometimes think we would like to have own our house but as Mr. Ray is not very strong I fear tho’ we may think of it we must try to be happy as we are. Nathalie is going away and that is a present trial to Mr. and Mrs. Ray. Mama too shudders if I say I sometimes feel the difference between Mr. Ray’s and my own house; but if it could be I would like to have a house even in the country near here, so that the girls could enjoy the place as a resort – but I suppose I will be obliged to leave this until circumstances favor. We are satisfied with our present family and I think it will be long before we shall desire any additions to it especially when we are sojourners. So you need not look for any little nephews or nieces. I hope the next thing we shall hear of will be that you have that house and some pets of this sort about you and then maybe Cornelia and I can come out to see you if not to live near you. The last would be Charming to me for I have very little interest in the persons I …here. Laurens and Milly[?] are good fellows but I can’t say of these exactly with the same fervor I did the other day when speaking of you to Cornelia. Charley is a good fellow and I like him! Do you [?]idred… said Cornelia and laughed outrightly. Mary is very happy in her new …and the slight sketch Charlotte gave me of Mary’s Saturday night when she sat and gazed intently upon a new cloak in which a chair was enveloped now looking as if amour[?] at its reflection in a mirror approaching it on tiptoe shaking out a fold here giving it a caress there and enjoying it seemed worthy of being imparted to you.

You can give life to my sketch and enjoy it I am sure. Alice is a gay bright girl everything seems happy to her. She is to be one of Nathalie’s bridesmaids. Give old Nimrod a caress for me and remember me kindly at the gloaming as you sit in that chair. Did the Matting’s[?] come to hand you never told me. I feel a personal interest in it. All are well. Alex is coming to town in a day or two about those plays[?] Quien Sabe. I hope they will get some sort of a start. I have no news from the South. Remember me very kindly to Mrs. McClure and if you ever should see little Miss Mason tho’ she does eat with her knife present my kindly. I am sure she did not cut [?].

I realized I had to transcribe this both because Schuyler is an important figure and it connects back to Cornelia Lott! Schuyler (1822-1903) and Cornelia Ray Hamilton (1829-1867) have another son, Charles Hamilton (1858-1875), so I guess Schuyler decided to give his brother a namesake nephew pretty soon after writing this letter. His other sons were Robert Ray (1851-1891) and Schuyler Jr (1853-1907), both mentioned here, and both of whom grew up to have, um, interesting private lives. Robert Ray was the subject of a recent book, The Scandalous Hamiltons, that was just okay as written, though the story is nearly too bizarre to be believed (I read it).

I see Schuyler getting spicy about his brother Alex’s literary ambitions! I haven’t looked into what was going on with their sisters Mary (Maria) (1825-1887) and Alice (1838-1905), the latter of whom was at least really young still. Laurens (1834-1858) is still a couple of years away from dying.

Hi! I hope you had a nice relaxing time with your family. Did you do anything fun? I meant to reply yesterday but I felt tired for once lol. I haven't had time to watch Poor Things yet but I definitely will this weekend! I'm also going to watch eras..I was supposed to tonight to get even more hyped for the album but my sister got tired. Omg do you like Schmigadoon? Did you watch Schmicago too? I think it's just a fun silly show and I love seeing if I know all the references. I love Beyonce's album so much..i think it has a lot of different sounds and I enjoy every song. I haven't heard Maggie's album yet but enjoyed Lizzy's and also Conan Gray's from last week and espresso is such a fun song. I did get tickets to the tour and we are going to be in the pit this time so maybe it will be more fun. This week, I'm playing Taylor of course and decided to start from Red and listen to the rest, but skipping 1989 since we just heard it and I don't think this album will be anything like it. She also made her own playlists I'm trying to make my way through, just because I think it's fun to hear songs from different albums sometimes. I can't believe we are already gonna hear it tonight! I'm so excited!!!

So when I saw the track lengths, it definitely made me more interested in some songs I wasn't at first. Especially Daddy I Love Him..which is apparently one of her longest songs ever. I honestly don't know what to expect from that song, cuz I don't know if I buy the Little Mermaid theory yet. Who's afraid of little old me was as well, and Taylor also wrote it herself, so I'm more interested in that cuz her solo songs are always so good. It made me more curious about my boy breaks his favorite toys too, which is the other solo song but I also always love her track threes. I also wonder if it has to do with Who's afraid of Virgina Woolf or not. Overall I was happy to see a mix of Aaron and Jack cuz I like both styles. The song lengths make me wonder if the album will be more similar to Speak Now, Red or Folklore and Evermore, since all the songs are pretty long. I love long songs so it would make me happy. So I think the ones I am most excited for are the title song, so long London, Florida, the Alchemy and Clara Bow, so I guess it didn't really change. What about you? For the bonus tracks, it's the Manuscript and the Black Dog so we will see if these become favorites. My sister and I are also gonna try to do a prelisten and first listen ranking so we can look back on the results. I think it's likely that Fortnight will be the single with the music video coming out on Friday so I'm excited for that since I always like the opening songs and I'm curious why the music video wouldn't come out the same time as the album.

I've been trying to keep up with everything. I think the aesthetic of the album has changed from academic department to a mystery with evidence police investigation to a court case. This is also something I'm curious about and if it will make more sense with the album. I think it's starting to make sense now. What do you think of the new lyrics? Which were your favorites? What songs do you think they are from? I really liked the first lyric about the eclipse and I think it might be from Clara Bow, and the one that says I wish I could unrecall how we almost had it all, since it reminds me of a mix of All Too Well or Cornelia Street. I think it could be from the title song or So Long London maybe? Not sure..possibly the manuscript if it's a bonus track. The others are nice too and I will have fun making guesses about which songs they're from with my sister. For Midnights, we got half right lol and with 1989. I love all of the lyrics so far and it just makes me more excited for the album..which I knew it would, after feeling not as much as I usually am for a Taylor album. It's okay if you don't reply before listening or right away if you're just taking the album in but I hope you have fun and I will be interested to see if we have some of the same favorites! hello!!! i loveeeed schmicadoon and schmicago — i think schmicadoon was like the perfect season 1 and i really loved how they played with a lot of musical theatre tropes, but i think that schmicago was more fun for me because pippin is up there for one of my favorite musicals and i had a blast spotting all the pippin nods/references! i'm already fighting the itch to rewatch it, but have been listening to the soundtrack all week. i haven't listened to the new conan yet but i need to — saving it for when i'm feeling better! have SO much fun on tour! i thought about getting tickets, especially since maisie is opening but conan/maisie is here the day before my mom's birthday and i'm not sure if we'll have plans (or if we'll be going out of town)!

i cannot believe the double album theorists were right!! so i guess we did have a midnightsy, 1989y, synth sounding album and a folklorey slower downed red-esque album! i'm still trying to figure out how i feel about this album; i have a lot of mixed feelings, and i think i need to do a few more listens, but wanted to reply to this first! i think first impression standouts are: but daddy i love him, down bad, loml, guilty as sin, i can do it with a broken heart, the black dog, the prophecy and the manuscript, but i haven't spent as much time with the second half of the album as i have the first, so i'll have to do some more relistening! i was able to listen to the first half of the album twice while waiting for the "2am announcement" then just fell asleep right after listening to the black dog. and then spent all of friday napping, but i'd try to stay up for a bit to hydrate, so i'd listen to like two songs at a time. not the most ideal way to listen to an album! covid really wiped me out. i'll probably relisten once i'm feeling ~ better better ~ and will post my thoughts on here when i do!

what were your first impressions? and have your favorites changed since?

an update for you! i've been (re)watching a lot of old bootlegs while i've been sick this week: the light in the piazza, next to normal, pippin, and catch me if you can. and am having a bit of an aaron tveit resurgence, if you haven't seen that from my blog already 😭 i'm not sure what i'll watch next — if you have any suggestions? i feel like we've talked a lot about taylor and some about theatre, but i'm trying to remember your favorite musicals and am coming up blank!

May Photo Challenge!!

Our next photo challenge, #Daisies and Daffodolls, will begin on May 1st! It’s a creative, for fun, non-competitive daily challenge for you to share pictures of your doll(s). There will be a new prompt each day, listed below to give you a month to prepare, and you can participate in as many or as few days as you’re interested in. There is no judgement whatsoever, so please share regardless of how complex your props are, and don’t worry about posting a prompt late.

First of all, thank you so much to @desertdollranch for helping with the prompts, especially those surrounding AG birthdays and holidays, and for getting this whole photo challenge thing started back in September! And a huge thank you to @lesbianelizabethcole for designing all 5 banners!

The ground rules are the same as in October and December, but I’ll reiterate them for anyone that might be new. Tag all of your prompt posts with #daisies and daffodolls - all three words, complete with spaces. This will allow us to better find and share each other’s posts. You can organize your own posts however you want, but I recommend including the day’s prompt somewhere for context. Also feel free to post on other social medias if you want.

This is not a competition, and there are no prizes, but it should be a lot of fun. Feel free to use any size and brand of doll that you have! American Girl is very popular on doll tumblr, but all other types are welcome as well, including both established (historical or modern) characters and OCs. This could range from 18-inch dolls to Barbies to handmade dolls or porcelain dolls or even paper dolls.

I’ll reblog this post weekly until the beginning of May, and then begin each week of May with the prompt list for that week. Please find a list of all prompts below the cut.

5/1: The first day of each photo challenge is traditionally for seasonal fashion. Does your doll have a favorite spring outfit? Is it cool and light, or are they still bundled in a sweater for the chilly mornings?

5/2: Spring is all about new beginnings. Is your doll learning a new skill or trying a new activity this spring? Or maybe they just met a new person who became important in their life?

5/3: Today is National Textiles Day. Kirsten’s friends gave her a quilt they made after she missed school to help her family. Does your doll have any clothes or other items that are handmade? If not, do they make any textile items themselves? This could be something sewn, knitted, crocheted, or quilted.

5/4: May the 4th be with you! Does your doll like Star Wars? Who is their favorite character? What about other stories? Pick a hero from any movie, show, or book that your doll loves and have them act out a scene as that character.

5/5: Friends are forever. Who are your doll’s closest friends and what do they do together? Maybe they like to play board games or go to the mall or play pretend. Or maybe your doll is planning something special for their friend.

5/6: As the weather gets warmer, it’s the perfect time to head outside. Does your doll play sports, or do they prefer casual games with their friends? Maybe they like picnics or quiet hikes through the woods.

5/7: Happy birthday, Maryellen! Maryellen often feels overlooked in her large family, and she works hard to stand out and show her unique personality. What makes your doll special and unique?

5/8: It’s career day! What does your doll want to do when they grow up? Show them dressed up for and/or acting out their dream job.

5/9: Happy Mother’s Day! Addy and her mother escaped to freedom together, Caroline’s mother ran a shipyard, and Kirsten’s mother encouraged her not to lose heart. Does your doll have a special bond with their mother? How do they celebrate Mother’s Day? If they don’t have a mother or don’t have a good relationship with her, consider today a free space to show us something you really want to but that isn’t included in these prompts.

5/10: Bugs are everywhere! We might avoid some of them, but others are welcomed. Lightning bugs, ladybugs, bumble bees, and dragonflies are a few happy spring bugs. Show your doll doing something bug-themed. They might take a net out to catch bugs or draw a picture of a bug or hold a ladybug they found. Be creative!

5/11: Parties are always fun! Is your doll going to any birthday parties or sleepovers this spring? Maybe they’re attending a wedding or some other celebration? What are their favorite party activities?

5/12: Spring weather can be a relief after the cold and darkness of winter. What is the weather like where your doll is? Foggy? Rainy? Bright and sunny? Show your doll interacting with their local spring weather.

5/13: Everyone needs mentors and heroes. Who does your doll look up to? What have they learned from them or how do they honor them?

5/14: It’s the last day of the school year. What’s your doll’s favorite extracurricular activity or aspect of school that they’ll miss until next fall?

5/15: Happy birthday, Luciana! Luciana loves learning about space and wants to be an astronaut and go to Mars one day. Getting to space involves studying many different things, particularly various fields of science. Show your doll doing something related to space or science.

5/16: Today is National Do Something Nice for your Neighbor Day. What does your doll do that helps others or makes the world a better place?

5/17: Let’s try something different today! If your (OC or non-AG) doll had their own American Girl-style book series, what would be the central theme? What sort of things would happen to them? Show us at least one scene from this hypothetical series.

5/18: Beaches and swimming are iconic activities as the weather gets warmer and people have more free time. Rebecca and her family went to Coney Island for a picnic. Does your doll enjoy picnics, sunbathing, or sandcastles on the beach? Maybe they like to swim for exercise or hang out at the pool with friends? (I do not recommend putting your doll in a public chlorine pool)

5/19: Happy Birthday, Kit! Growing up seeing the effects of the Great Depression on people around her, Kit is determined to report on important things happening to real people. How does your doll relate to current events? Are they involved in activism or spreading awareness? Is there an important social issue that affects them personally or that they feel is very important? Or is there something good happening in the world that they like to think about?

5/20: Spring is a great time for tea parties. What’s in your doll’s teacup? Maybe they’re drinking a fancy tea, or maybe they prefer a refreshing glass of juice.

5/21: Spring is full of baby animals. Show your doll interacting with some sort of baby animal. (Safely! Please don’t grab a real squirrel or bunny!)

5/22: In December we celebrated Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day. I’d like to reprise that, but with a twist: this time, we’re headed into the future! The amount of time and what your doll finds in the future is completely up to you. What do they do while there?

5/23: Cakes and pies and ice cream, oh my! What is your doll’s favorite dessert?

5/24: There may be fewer holidays in spring than in December, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to celebrate! Does your doll celebrate Passover or Easter? Or maybe they prefer a more obscure spring holiday to liven things up? Show them participating in whatever celebration you like.

5/25: Yellow is the color of flowers and sunny days and ducklings. Show your doll wearing or using something yellow.

5/26: Happy birthday, Samantha! After her birthday party, Samantha hears Aunt Cornelia speak at a suffragette meeting in New York City. What is a cause that is important to your doll? Show them with a sign supporting or protesting something close to their heart. As an added challenge, use a cause unrelated to the current events prompt.

5/27: It’s summer vacation! What are some of your doll’s favorite activities now that they’re free from school? Alternatively, what are some of their favorite hobbies to do anytime?

5/28: Happy birthday, Cecile! For her birthday, Cecile’s brother Armand gave her a beautiful porcelain doll that looked like her. Does your doll have a favorite doll or toy?

5/29: Late spring and early summer is a great time to go on a road trip or vacation. Where is your doll traveling to, and what are they doing there? Or maybe their family chose a staycation this year - what new fun new things are they discovering close to home?

5/30: Today is National Water a Flower Day. Show your doll interacting with flowers or other plants.

imagine the Spades Pirates were pretty fed up with Ace and his attempts to murder Whitebeard, probably also not fully understanding why the heck he’d keep trying something so impossible.

They themselves were probably pretty fine with being there, after all, the Whitebeard pirates seem like a nice bunch. So, I started a series of shorts, just because it amuses me somehow. :D

Attempt Nr. 14

Saki watched with a sigh as Ace broke into a full run, ax in hand.

“Number?” Cornelia asked her, sipping from her hot cup of tea as she came to stand next to her.

“Number 14,” Saki replied and started to take off her jacket, handing it to her friend.

Whitebeard was looking out over the sea, talking to Marco. She could hear the rumble of his voice, but didn’t understand what they were speaking.

Whitebeard ducked below the first swing of Ace’s ax and Saki kicked off her shoes in preparation.

“You think he’ll eventually realize he can’t kill Whitebeard?” Cornelia mused, stretching out her hand to grab the shirt Saki had taken off and folded neatly. She flinched when Ace landed on his back, hard, and jumped up immediately for a renewed attack.

Taylor Swift Songs by Hogwarts Houses

Many people in the younger generations describe their personalities based on their Hogwarts houses, so I thought it would be fun to divide @taylorswift's songs into Hogwarts houses. Based on my own determinations, I've decided that Taylor Swift's music primarily fits into Ravenclaw, with Slytherin as a very close second. So now, without further ado, here are Taylor's songs sorted into Hogwarts houses.

GRYFFINDOR:

As we all know, Gryffindors are described as being brave, daring, and valiant. These songs are the brave ones, the ones that really took a chance. Many of these songs are bold and exciting, with very strong themes. Of all of Taylor's albums, I decided that Speak Now and 1989 are the ones that could be classified as Gryffindor.

HUFFLEPUFF:

Hufflepuffs are considered reliable, loyal, hardworking, and kind. To determine which songs were sorted into Hufflepuff, I chose more optimistic songs, ones that were peppier and tended to be happier - but not all of them. These songs really show Taylor's loyalty and the bubblier aspects of her personality. But that doesn't mean all of these songs are happy and bubbly. There are some sad songs in here too, but they depict her softer, gentler, more loyal personality traits. Lover is the only album I would classify as being truly Hufflepuff.

SLYTHERIN:

Slytherins are normally described as cunning and ambitious. The songs I chose to sort into Slytherin tend to be darker and angrier. These songs show Taylor's ambition and tend to show just how good she is at what she does. These songs exude confidence and charisma more so than the other songs she has put out. Taylor Swift (her debut album), Fearless (both the original and Taylor's Version), and Reputation are albums I would consider to be Slytherin.

Ravenclaws are classified by their intelligence, cleverness, wit, and creativity, so it goes without saying that the majority of Taylor Swift songs will fall into Ravenclaw. These are the songs that you can tell she put a lot of thought into - whether they have bigger words, or are just more creative. These songs tend to create a clear image in my head when I hear them, and I can really put myself into her shoes with each one. These are some of her best songs, her most creative, and her most intelligent and witty songs. Of her albums, Red, Folklore, and Evermore are the ones I would classify as Ravenclaw.

I am going to assume this is about FE3H, since you didn't specify a fandom, so here goes:

What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

Ferdinand/Hubert: I'm sorry, but I just don't see it. These two barely get along until their final support, when suddenly they become all blushy about each other. It doesn't help that I really like Ferdinand/Dorothea. I also have a hard time picturing Hubert having the time, energy or inclination to pursue anyone but Edelgard, since he is pretty much the one doing all the behind the scenes work for the Empire and is stubbornly devoted to Edelgard.

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?

If we're only talking playable characters, Manuela and Hilda. I have warmed up to them somewhat since I first started playing the game last year, but I still like them less than everybody else. Hilda reminds me of every slacker/dead weight that I have ever had the displeasure to work with on any school/work team, and Manuela is a perfect example of how nothing is a greater turn-off than desperation. She also meets the frustrating bar of being aware of the flaws that are holding her back, but never even taking a single step to rectify them, and if she's not willing to put in the work, why should I?

If we are including non-playable characters: all of the Slithers. They are a true Diabolus Ex Machina--overpowered bad guys that appear tacked on and literally only seem to be there so the the player can have a hate sink that detracts from Edelgard's conquest. Think of how much more engaging the plot would have been if it had not been the Slithers trying to destroy Rhea and experimenting on the Ordelias and Hresvelgs, but rather a fanatical splinter cell of the church! Think of how much more sense everything would have made! But nooooooo, we get a random cult of ancient, butthurt idiots who have nukes and the ability to take on another person's voice and appearance, but can't manage to kill a single dragon lady in 1000 years. What a complete waste of narrative space.

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

Um... on a broad scale, Crimson Flower is my least favorite of the 4 routes, because it hands every character except Hubert an idiot ball and then just watches them kick it around the courtyard like the least enthusiastic 5th graders during PE that you've ever seen. Everybody just up and forgets part 1 happened, nobody asks about the Slithers or the Flame Emperor or the fact that your house leader literally ordered her men to kill you, and it is by far the route where recruitment makes the least sense, especially for characters like Ingrid. Not to mention it ends with Byleth's magical pacemaker disappearing... and yet somehow they still live? And you can still romance Sothis? What? It just makes no sense. You can really tell that they didn't originally plan for this route and only developed it once people on the dev team started complaining "but I wanted to walk with Edelgard ;A;"

On a finer scale, I despise how Patricia's arc was left so unresolved. How involved was she really in the Tragedy? Did she know they would also try to kill Dimitri or did Cornelia neglect to mention that part? What happened to her after? I'd assume the Slithers killed her, but it would have been nice to have some info about it in-game.

I also hate that we never hear about Edelgard's siblings anywhere except in her C and C+ supports with Byleth--not even her dad mentions them when he speaks of the trauma she endured. Considering that imperial nobility all live in Enbarr, you'd think at least someone would mention 10 dead imperial children, especially if eight of them were before her in the line of succession, but nope. It makes them feel like a badly tacked on backstory for players to sob about.

Pride and Prejudice - Speak Now

my reasoning: it’s my favorite in the same way that P&P is and also Back to December pretty much IS Lizzy about Darcy post-letter and Enchanted IS about their first meeting and The Story of Us IS about that time when Darcy comes back to Longbourne but Lizzy can’t speak to him yet and Mine is the perfect romcom the way that P&P is and Long Live is the perfect ending in the mode of P&P and just. yeah.
