Please intentionally attempt to see the magic in everything. Everything is magic, even if you understand the "boring" reasons why things happen. Look at the magic in growing plants, the magic of your muscles flexing and retracting, the magic of your eyes and skull, the magic of a cat's purr.
It's all magic. Understanding the "why" is just understanding what makes things magical, it doesn't change that it's all significant and magic.

Chapter 68
Chapter 68
As the silence stretched, Rufus, unable to resist the urge to break it, couldn't help but quip, "Well, aren't we just the God of Mystery, eh?" His playful smile widened.
Raj chuckled, his warm demeanor unfazed by Rufus's remark. "I suppose you could say that," he replied, the playful glint in his eyes matching Rufus's banter. "But, let's focus on the here and now, shall we?"
Karen, who had an affinity for all things otherworldly, found herself inexplicably drawn to Raj's presence. She leaned forward, her eyes wide with curiosity. "So, what can you do, Helion?" she asked, using the name of his godly alter ego. "I mean, besides surprise appearances and leaving us all in awe."
Raj smiled warmly at Karen, appreciating her keen interest. "Well, Nyx," he began, "I have the power to create anything at any time, except for a human soul. It's a gift and a responsibility, all rolled into one."
Corey nodded in understanding. "That's quite the power you wield," he commented, his logical mind processing the implications of Raj's abilities.
Nook found herself drawn to Raj's kind presence, sensing that he had a deep understanding of the world and its intricacies. "It's amazing, really," she said softly, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. "To have the ability to create anything you desire."
Jack, who had a penchant for embracing the extraordinary, couldn't help but be fascinated by Raj's power. "You could create an entire universe if you wanted to," he said, his eyes widening with wonder. "That's incredible."
As the conversation continued to revolve around their godly abilities, Emilya, the airheaded space cadet, couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder. Though she lacked any superpowers herself, she found herself caught up in the tales of her godly friends, eager to learn more about their extraordinary lives. Rufus noticed Emilya's fascination and decided to direct his attention towards her. He couldn't resist the chance to engage in some banter with the charming mortal.
"Hey, airhead," Rufus said, hedging his bets. "You look like you're enjoying this little cosmic party."
Emilya's cheeks flushed at the nickname, but she didn't take offense, knowing it was Rufus's way of teasing her affectionately. "Oh, you bet!" she replied with enthusiasm. "It's like I'm living in a superhero movie!"
Rufus smirked, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Well, don't get too starry-eyed," he said, his tone teasing. "We might be gods, but life's not all sunshine and rainbows, you know. We're gonna have to do some dirty work."
Emilya chuckled, feeling an odd sense of comfort in Rufus's sarcastic banter. "I know, I know," she said. "But it's still amazing to hear about all the incredible things you guys can do. It's just amazing."
Rufus leaned in closer, his playful demeanor giving way to a hint of vulnerability. "You know," he said, his voice softer, "you're pretty amazing yourself, airhead."
Emilya's eyes widened at the unexpected compliment. "Oh, well, thank you," she stammered, her cheeks flushing a deeper shade of red. "I'm just me, you know, nothing special. Unless you do, um, think that I'm special."
Rufus shook his head, a genuine smile gracing his lips. "You're more special than you realize," he said, his voice earnest. "You have this way of seeing the world, of understanding things that the rest of us miss. It's... refreshing." Jack finally noticed how close together the two of them were as they spoke together. He huffed.
"You know you have to ask for my permission before you hit on my ex," he told Rufus. Gage awkwardly tried to laugh. Jack's gaze was unwavering.
Rufus sighed. "You're right, Jack. Sorry. How long did you guys date for, anyway? How come the vamps didn't find out about you two?" Jack awkwardly shook his head.
Emilya chimed in, her voice airy, honest and impartial, "Three days."
Rufus raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Three days? That's it?" he asked, his sarcasm momentarily replaced by genuine curiosity.
Emilya nodded, her expression unfazed by the revelation. "Yep, three days of whirlwind romance," she said, as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
Jack couldn't help but interject, a hint of defensiveness in his voice. "Hey, it was intense!" he exclaimed. "We packed a lot into those three days."
Rufus chuckled, his playful demeanor returning. "I'm sure you did," he said, giving Jack a mockingly approving look. "Well, I guess that's the beauty of being gods, right? Time is on our side."
Gwyneth couldn't resist jumping in with a mischievous grin. "Speaking of time, Rufus, how about spending some of it with me? I mean, I'm sure you could use a little heat in your life."
Rufus rolled his eyes playfully, knowing exactly where Gwyneth was going with her teasing. "Oh, Gwyn, you never miss a chance to turn up the temperature, do you?" he retorted, trying to keep the mood light.
Meanwhile, Karen, who had been silently observing the playful banter, couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. She used her telekinesis to levitate a nearby cushion and tossed it at Rufus' head while he was trying to stay cool. Rufus caught the cushion effortlessly, raising an eyebrow at Karen. "Careful, Nyx," he said, feigning seriousness. "Don't go throwing cushions around. We might need those for an epic pillow fight later."
Karen turned red. "With whom?," she demanded.
"Uh," said Rufus, "Definitely not between Emilya and Gwyn, that would be too crazy. Much too much."
Emilya giggled. "I wouldn't mind one bit." Gwyneth turned and looked Emilya up and down. The goddess of beauty bit her lip. Emily did nothing less than curtsy.
Karen turned redder still. Rufus' eyes widened at the depth of the grave he was digging. He said, "Why don't we, uh, why don't we focus on the vampires in charge of the government, guys? We need to stay focused."
Aleister finally chimed in, effectively cutting through the tension in the room. "Rufus has a point," he said, his voice smooth as silk. "If we want to put an end to the vampires' control over the government, we need a plan. And luckily, I happen to have an idea."
All eyes turned to Aleister, intrigued by his suggestion. Raj leaned in with genuine interest. "What's your plan, Aleister?" he asked.
Aleister flashed a confident grin. "Air Town," he said. "We evacuate the city and destroy everything under it."
Logan's gravelly voice cut in, "Vampires? Are you telling me the government is controlled by vampires?" Everyone nodded, especially Emilya.
Rufus chuckled. "Right. It might be a good idea to warn the population of the vast subterranean expanse where, in all likelihood, entire generations are born, live and die in darkness to serve as livestock."
Logan gulped. "How are you gonna prove it?"
"Easy," said Aleister. "We pick up the rock and show the world all the bugs underneath it." Nook approvingly nodded. She looked at Aleister for an unduly long time.
"There's one other thing," she told the group. Everyone turned to the shy young woman. "I have to find my dogs."

“Tiny ears! Remember?!” With Tara and Thomas!
Ok, I really liked writing this one
From this list of prompts here
And for anyone who doesn’t know, more details about these two can be found on my oc masterlist
______________________________________________________
After knowing one another for two months, Tara finally agreed to cross into giant territory for her meetings with Thomas. Admittedly, it was kind of awkward standing on opposite sides of the creek. More importantly, being out in the open like that, they ran the risk of getting seen by somebody. Tara definitely did not want to have to explain why she was hanging out with a giant to her family and friends back home.
The spot she and Thomas had decided on wasn’t far into giant territory, in fact Tara could still catch a glimpse of the border through the trees. Meanwhile, Thomas was about as concealed as his giant form would allow in an area with trees shorter than him.
Of course, Tara never would have agreed to the arrangement had she not been confident Thomas harbored no ill will towards her. The guy had saved her life twice, and after getting to know him better and better over time, she could almost call him a friend.
That being said, Tara had been sure to set up clear ground rules. Most important of the rules was that Thomas had to keep his hands to himself unless given express permission otherwise. The giant had pouted extensively about it. He obviously got a kick out of holding and touching her, which was exactly why Tara had forbidden it. Plus, being around hands that could easily snuff out her life made her more than a little anxious, believe it or not.
In order to avoid physical contact while still managing to remain close to Thomas’s eye level, Tara had positioned herself in a high branch of a tree directly in front of where the giant was sitting. Thomas had been fretting like a mother hen as she climbed up, insisting it was too dangerous for someone “so itty bitty.” The comment only served to make Tara climb quicker. She’d been scaling trees since she was little, she knew exactly what she was doing.
“Wait, but I thought you said you wanted to study at that university?” Tara inquired as she absentmindedly swayed her dangling legs back and forth.
During their last meeting, Thomas had explained to her his desire to attend some fancy school in a giant city a ways away. They had something sort of similar on the human side of the border, but it was incredibly far away and was very selective with who they allowed as students. No one in Tara’s town ever even considered it as a feasible option.
Thomas gave a humorless laugh. “Well of course I want to, both Lane and I have dreamed of going there for years,” he explained. “But it costs an arm and a leg to even be allowed to study there, not to mention room and board, food, supply costs...we’d never be able to afford it.” He let out a resigned sigh.
A frown formed on Tara’s face. She couldn’t necessarily empathize with Thomas’s situation exactly, but the feeling of being trapped by forces out of her own control was familiar enough after encountering giants. “So what are you going to do then?” she asked. The First Hunt had marked Thomas’s transition from child to adult, meaning he could no longer rely on his parents and needed to seek out a way to make a living.
“I’ll probably start helping out at my uncle’s shop, at least for now,” Thomas said with a shrug. He didn’t look especially pleased with the plan, but before Tara could call him out on it, he spoke up again. “What about you? Are you going to keep gathering supplies for your doctor?” he questioned.
Since even before she had finished school, Tara had been assisting the town’s physician by foraging for medicinal supplies that could be found in nature. At first it had mostly been freelance, but within the past month she had begun receiving a regular wage from the doctor. Tara enjoyed the unrestrictive nature of the work, plus the pay wasn’t half bad either. That being said, she couldn’t see herself doing it for the rest of her life.
“Well actually…” Tara started, “I’ve been thinking I might want to join one of the scouting parties.” The job was mentally and physically demanding, but scouts were well paid and well respected. Plus, after almost being eaten on two separate occasions, Tara felt as though non-giant related dangers were pretty manageable.
“Are you crazy?!” Tara winced at the unexpected volume of Thomas’s voice, her hands instinctively going to cover her ears against the thundering noise.
When her ears stopped ringing, she lowered her hands and shot a scowl up at the giant’s face. “Hey!” she shouted, “Tiny ears! Remember?!” Despite his natural enthusiasm, Thomas was usually pretty good at keeping his voice at a volume that was comfortable to Tara. Over time, his accidental loud outbursts had decreased in frequency. Whatever streak he’d had was now soundly broken of course.
Thomas’s eyes went wide as he realized what he’d done. “Sorry, sorry!” he exclaimed in an overly hushed tone. His cheeks became tinged with a slight red color and he wore a regretful expression on his face as he looked down at Tara. “I just--I can’t believe you would actually consider doing something so needlessly risky.” When he finished the sentence he began to take on the appearance of a stern father or something.
Tara pressed her lips together. She wasn’t really sure why Thomas seemed so worked up over the idea of her joining a scouting party. In the past, she had described what the scouts did and why they were so important to the wellbeing of her town. She’d mentioned the fact that, aside from ensuring no giants ever crossed into human territory, scouts were also responsible for fending off vicious wild animals, as well as occasionally dealing with bandits that sometimes hung around the woods surrounding the town. Sure, it was probably one of the more dangerous jobs Tara could do, but it wasn’t as if it were a death sentence. It was rare that a scout was ever killed in the line of duty.
“It’s not ‘needlessly risky’, Thomas,” she insisted. “Scouts are vital to the safety of my town. Plus, it’s not as dangerous as you seem to be imagining it to be.”
“The world is a dangerous place, and you’re so small--” Thomas started, but Tara was quick to interrupt him with a raised hand.
“Okay--just because I’m small to you, doesn’t mean I can’t handle myself just fine.”
“But why risk it when you don’t have to?”
Tara rolled her eyes. “I’m not going to live my life in a bubble.” It was becoming increasingly clear to her that while Thomas may view her as a person in some respects, he still thought of her as some kind of weak creature in need of protection. Considering he’d had to save her life on multiple occasions, Tara supposed she couldn’t entirely blame him. But that had been when she’d been in giant territory. Things were different on her side of the border.
At first, Thomas opened his mouth as if he were about to shoot back a retort. However, after a moment’s pause, his expression softened slightly. “I’m--I just don’t want you to get hurt,” he admitted.
Tara sighed. It was hard to stay too mad at the guy when he sounded so genuine. He seemed to really care about her wellbeing, even if he was being a bit overbearing about it. She allowed her tensed shoulders to relax. “I appreciate your concern,” she began, making sure to choose her words carefully. “But I promise, I’ll be fine.” Tara offered Thomas her most sincere smile. “Besides, I don’t even know for sure if I am actually going to join a scouting party. It’s just a possibility.”
With slow, controlled movements, Thomas leant forward so that his face was hanging about a foot above where Tara sat. She stiffened when one of his hands gently settled down beside her on the branch, close but not quite making contact with her body. “You don’t know how much I wish I could touch you right now,” he stated, a petulant look on his face.
With her cheeks flushing pink, Tara attempted to disguise it by fixing an unperturbed expression on her face. “You--you can keep your hands to yourself, Mr. Grabby,” she declared stubbornly.
Even if she trusted Thomas not to hurt her, willingly allowing a giant to touch her felt like crossing some line. Of course, she’d already crossed all kinds of lines just by agreeing to meet with him in the first place. Maybe Tara wasn’t completely opposed to letting him touch her--but only for practical purposes! Allowing him to fiddle with her now was certainly not practical.
Thomas gave Tara a pouty face, but when she remained resolute, he released a dramatic sigh before pulling away. “You’re killing me here.”
Tara snorted as she shook her head. “You are such a drama queen.”

🐉 Song Recommendation: “Tongues & Teeth” By: The Crane Wives 🐉
Tumblr media
~~~
(Y/N) suppressed her giggles behind her hand as Levi pressed more kisses to her stomach, humming in contentment as he nuzzled her skin. Shocked wouldn’t even begin to describe how she was feeling, watching her normally stoic husband act so soft. He had always lowered his walls around her, his wife, the one person he felt comfortable being vulnerable around, but he had never shown this much emotion. It was like she was looking at a whole new man, a smile spreading across her lips until they ached as pride filled her chest at how far he had come.
When (Y/N) had first met Levi all those years ago, he was a thug. A criminal who couldn’t have been more than eighteen years old, fighting to survive in a world that had spat on him from day one. She had been out walking her dog that day, enjoying the cool autumn breeze as she had rewarded herself with a couple of hours to relax after acing an exam she had taken earlier that morning. It was her dog that had noticed him first, a handsome black labrador she called Caspian, his ears perked up and a low growl in his throat as the boy who looked to be around her age had stalked towards them, constantly checking over his shoulder as the sirens from distant police cars had wailed louder and louder.
(Y/N) had noticed the look of panic on the boy’s face when the cars had rounded the corner, his face paling even more than it already had been. She had been able to tell he was probably dangerous, had obviously done something illegal, but something about the fear in his expression had twisted her insides more than the knife he could have possibly had and used against her ever would. Making her decision, (Y/N) hadn’t hesitated when he sped by, trying to outrun the cars before they saw him. She had reached out and grabbed his arm, spinning him away from the road and grabbing his coat, simultaneously handing him Caspian’s leash.
“Hey babe, I’m cold, could I borrow your jacket? Thanks!”
She had been impressed that despite his shock, he had managed to shake it off and nod woodenly, playing the part as he had grabbed ahold of Caspian’s leash and shrugged off the rest of his jacket. The cars had sped by, completely ignoring the couple on the sidewalk as (Y/N) had slipped into his jacket and leaned into his body, humming happily and thanking him with a sappy look on her face. It had only been when the police had rounded the corner that she had let him go, grabbing her dog back from him but keeping his jacket draped over her shoulders.
“Why did you do that?”
“You just looked like you needed a break.”
Ever since then, the pair had been inseparable, meeting together more and more until they eventually confessed to each other. Afterwards, (Y/N) helped build Levi up, allowing him to actually make a life for himself and giving him the chance to open up when the emotions he had were too intense for his mask to hide. He was lucky he had so many skills from his time on the streets, allowing (Y/N) to give genuine recommendations to jobs for Levi, until he finally got hired at a restaurant as a waiter despite his complete lack of job experience.
From there, he was able to climb his way to the top, earning his own money and scraping together any job experience he could get until he was finally able to get the education he needed at a reputable university, getting a degree in business and marketing before starting his own company. (Y/N) had continued with her own degree, working to become a criminologist so she could continue to help people just like Levi. Despite their busy lives  and completely different worlds, Levi had never forgotten the girl who had given him his start in life and (Y/N) had never forgotten the bad boy who never left her bored or neglected, life always an adventure when she was with Levi, the two getting married a few years after they both had stable jobs working for their respective careers.
More kisses fluttering against her skin brought her out of her thoughts, another smile flashing on her face as she looked down to see Levi pressing his face against her abdomen, his arms looped around her waist as she leaned back into the headboard of their bed.
“Levi,” (Y/N) giggled when he started murmuring soft words of love to her stomach. “There isn’t even anything there yet, not really, it’s only been a few weeks.”
“I know,” Levi said against her still flat stomach, his husky words sending sparks along her spine. “But it’s still something. I just…, I don’t know, I guess I’m just happy to finally have a family.”
(Y/N) was a pile of goo at his sheepish confession, running her fingers through his soft raven locks as she sighed happily. “I’m really excited too, Levi, and I’m happy you’re happy.”
“Oh, I am,” Levi purred, making (Y/N) shift as his deep voice made her core melt. “I’m scared, really scared of fucking this up, or something going wrong, but I’m really happy. Thank you.”
(Y/N) leaned down and he met her half way to give her a warm kiss, her fingers lightly scratching his scalp as he sat up more to better tangle his tongue with hers. Her soft laugh at his enthusiasm quickly turned into a choked out moan, her hands tightening in his hair as he crawled to his knees, pressing her back against the headboard.
“Hmm? What’s this?” (Y/N) asked coyly, breaking the kiss and using one hand to run her fingers down his chest, teasing just shy of his groin before trailing them back up, smiling at the half-hearted glare he threw her.
“I was just thinking…” Levi murmured, leaning in for another kiss. “That I should show some appreciation for my beautiful wife,” he kissed her again. “A reward for this wonderful gift she has given me.”
“Oh?” (Y/N) said breathily. “And what if I wanted to give my amazing husband a reward for all of his hard work? I didn’t create this baby on my own, you know.”
Levi gave a low, keening moan at the feeling of her sucking on a spot just below his ear, closing his eyes and gripping her waist tighter when she started circling her finger around the arousal growing in his pants.
“I think,” he panted. “I have a solution that will work for both of us.”
“Oh yeah?” (Y/N) asked cheekily, biting her lip when she felt his hands leave her waist to creep under her shirt, his rough, warm palms cupping her soft breasts. “Why don’t you show me what it is?”
Levi gave a wicked smile. “With pleasure.”
__________________________
Levi didn’t know what time it was, only that it was late, going by the darkness that still filled their room despite the opened shades, but he found he didn’t even have time to think about it as he felt the cool edge of a blade against his throat. He didn’t even have to open his eyes to know what it was, the feeling ingrained in him from his days as an orphaned boy on the streets. His entire body froze but he kept his eyes closed, not wanting to give his attacker any further reason to sink the blade deeper into his throat. He felt a few tiny drops of blood seep from where the knife rested against his skin, and resisted swallowing to keep from rubbing against the sharp edge.
Without thinking, his left hand immediately flew out to lay across (Y/N)’s body, not caring about anything but protecting his wife to the best of his ability, even with a knife to his throat. While he’d like to avoid it, he knew he’d gladly die to save her, even if that meant never getting to meet the little bundle of joy he had been eagerly waiting for ever since (Y/N) had told him, tears in her eyes while she beamed at him.
“Thought you could keep me pinned down forever, huh?”
That voice, filled with a seething fire, coupled with the feeling of his arm hitting nothing but thin air and empty sheets hit him simultaneously, his eyes flying open to see the face of his wife hovering over him, one hand holding the knife to his throat while the other was holding a sheet against her body, hiding her naked form.
“(Y/N)? What the hell?” Levi managed to spit out, trying to wrap his brain around the situation.
“What? Didn’t think I was strong enough to fool you? I can’t remember what happened last night, but that doesn’t mean I’m too confused to defend myself.”
“Defend yourself? (Y/N), what are you talking about? Defend yourself from who? Me? I’m your husband, why would I-”
“You are not my husband, I’m not married. Don’t try to fool me with some cheap ass tricks. Who the fuck do you think you are?”
Levi flinched at the pure hatred in her voice, but forced himself to stay calm. Something was obviously wrong, but he wasn’t going to get any answers by panicking.
“(Y/N), it’s me, damn it! It’s Levi! We’ve known each other since we were teenagers, we’ve been married for four years and we are having-”
“I said to stop pulling that cheap shit on me!” (Y/N) screamed at him, her teeth gritted as she pressed the knife ever closer to his throat. Levi’s breath hitched as he fought the tears back, but he was fighting a losing battle. What was going on? Why was she acting like this? They had had their fights just like any other couple, but she had never screamed at him like this, like she loathed him with every fiber of her being.
“It’s not a trick, (Y/N), I love you!”
“You can’t love someone you pulled out of a bar for a quick fuck,” (Y/N) spat. “Was that what happened? Or did you break into my house and knock me out when I wasn’t looking? Or did you drug me? Get me to trust you just enough to drink something you gave me before dragging me to your house to use as you please?”
“(Y/N), I would never use you-”
“Then what the hell do you suggest happened!?” (Y/N) shouted, her voice cracking a little as she spoke. “I’m not an idiot, I can feel the aching between my legs, the bites on my neck, the dried spend on my inner thighs. Not to mention, I woke up naked. What? You just wanted to bring me to your bed, strip me down, and then watch me sleep? You had no desire for sex at all when you brought a strange, unconscious woman into your house and ripped her clothes off?”
Her voice was starting to shake now, her breathing heavy and tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. She still had that fiery look, like she wanted to kill him, but she was starting to lose her composure. Her whole body shook, and she had to keep readjusting her grip on the sheet she held to her naked form, the cloth slipping from the sweat that was starting to coat her palms.
“You can lie all you want, make up this bullshit about how we’re happily married and I’m just delusional, but I won’t fall for it. You’re a fucking monster, you know that? I didn’t ask for this, to be taken advantage of when I was incapable of making my own decisions or protecting myself. If I wouldn’t go to jail for it, I’d send you back to the hell you came from right now,” (Y/N) pressed the blade slightly deeper into his skin as she spoke, her eyes glittering with fury and a desperate sadness.
But no matter how far she sank that knife into him, it was the words she spoke that stabbed him deeper, sinking into his heart and twisting it until he almost couldn’t contain the will to cry out. Tears streamed down his face uncontrollably now, his expression displaying his need for a solution, anything to make this nightmare end. Not just for himself, but for (Y/N). He absolutely loathed the idea of her thinking he’d ever do anything to her that she was uncomfortable with, but he hated the idea of her thinking it was real more. If she truly believed he had assaulted her, used her for himself, that could prove to be more traumatic than anything he was dealing with currently.
“(Y/N), I-”
“How the fuck do you know my name? You keep saying it, did I tell you before I was knocked out?”
“(Y/N), listen, you were never knocked out! I know your name because I’m your husband! You have to believe me! I would never hurt you, never!”
“I warned you,” (Y/N) said, leaning so close to him he could feel her breath hitting his face, her fingers twitching on the handle of the knife as if she were fighting the urge to slide it across his throat and end this once and for all. “Not to tell me this fucking story all over again. I would remember if I was married, that’s not something you just forget overnight. I don’t really care about what happened to lead up to this, the point is that you did what you did, and now you’re going to pay for it.”
Levi didn’t know what was going on, but he knew he had to do something before things got even worse. Swallowing the bile that rose in his throat at the thought of what he was going to have to do, Levi closed his eyes and brought his knee up, hitting her ass and sending her flying forward. Tilting his neck to avoid the bite of the blade, he used her state of unbalance to knock her off of him, flying out of bed and slamming the door to their bedroom behind him. He held the door closed as she pulled and pounded against it, whimpering quietly with every scream of hatred she spewed at him. Reaching over, he managed to grab a nearby chair and used it to jam the door shut, confident she couldn’t get out. He thought about the windows but knew she wouldn’t be able to escape through them, their bedroom on the top floor of their house too high off the ground for her to jump or even climb down safely.
His hands were shaking as he quickly dialed the numbers of his two closest friends, not even apologizing for the late hour as he quickly explained the situation to both of them. He hoped that with Hanji’s medical experience as a doctor and Erwin’s experience as a detective they would be able to shed some light on what could possibly be going on with his beloved wife. Hanging up at their promises to come immediately, Levi slumped against the door to their bedroom, his head in his hands as he finally let himself cry.
___________________________
Transient Global Amnesia. Levi stopped breathing as Hanji gently placed a hand on his shoulder, sitting him down in a nearby chair. It was nothing more than a sudden, spontaneous bout of amnesia that wasn’t triggered by a stroke or neurological disorder. There was no real cure for it and while it tended to only be temporary, that wasn’t always the case. He swallowed hard, fighting the urge to pass out.
“How is she?”
“She’s… coping.”
Levi visibly cringed at Hanji’s words, and while the friend part of the brunette almost immediately regretted telling him, the doctor part of her knew he needed to know the truth. At the moment, (Y/N) did not remember anything about Levi, or where she was, or her relationship to him. They hadn’t even told her about the baby yet, too concerned she’d do something rash if she found out before she had been calmed down.
“What is she doing now?” Levi asked quietly, his voice barely a whisper.
“Erwin is with her right now. He’s trying to convince her that the neighbors heard a commotion and called him to investigate, which led to your “arrest” and that we are here to save her.”
Levi snapped his head up, his eyes furious and his mouth opening to speak when Hanji interrupted him.
“I know what you’re going to say, Levi, and don’t worry, we have a script planned to prove your innocence should her amnesia continue so she doesn’t continue to think you took advantage of her. But this is the only thing we could think of that would let us get close to her without her thinking we were “in league” with you. Do you understand? We didn’t want to paint you in a bad light, but we had to if we wanted to keep her from hurting you or herself.”
Hanji avoided bringing up the idea of the baby getting hurt too, knowing that would just pour more salt on the wound. Levi wasn’t stupid, it was clear he was very aware of the fragile situation they were all in at the moment, it wouldn’t help to make him even more stressed with information he already knew.
Levi was quiet for a moment but eventually nodded, closing his eyes and placing his head on his fist, his elbows resting on his knees as he leaned forward in his chair, trying to process everything he was being told without breaking down. Hanji took a deep breath, preparing for the worst.
“And um…, I’ve organized everything so that (Y/N) will come to live with me for a while. I want to keep an eye on her and it’s obvious she can’t really stay here.”
To her surprise, Levi just nodded, letting loose a silent sob that Hanji pretended not to hear, for his benefit. When his body started to shake, she placed her hand on his shoulder again, using her other hand to lift his chin up so she could look into his eyes. Her heart clenched when she saw the pain and despair swirling there, her normally stoic best friend showing more vulnerability than she had ever seen him display for anyone other than the woman who currently thought he was a monster.
“Listen, Levi. I promise you right now, both as a friend and as a doctor, that I will do everything in my power to make sure everything goes back to normal. I can’t promise that it will, but I do promise that I will work until I die trying, alright? You may feel like the world is against you right now, but you are not alone.”
Levi closed his eyes and nodded, murmuring his quiet thanks as Hanji made to leave the room, her phone pinging with Erwin’s text saying he finally got her calm enough to transport. “Make sure to stay in here until we are gone, okay Levi?”
Levi didn’t respond as Hanji left the room, only sitting with his head pressed against his fist as he listened to the sounds of Erwin leading (Y/N) to Hanji’s car, each murmur of comfort from his best friends to his wife like another dagger to his bleeding heart.
_______________________
“(Y/N)? Are you okay in there?” (Y/N) heard Hanji call from behind the bathroom door. Closing her eyes, (Y/N) answered that she was fine, too busy with fighting another wave of nausea to formulate the words necessary to convey that she was indeed, not fine.
When she finally felt the roiling in her stomach calm down, (Y/N) flushed the toilet and washed her mouth out, nearly vomiting again just from the taste on her tongue. When she was finally certain that she could close her mouth without gagging, (Y/N) took a deep breath and sat on the now closed toilet lid, trying not to cry.
Hanji had been unbelievably kind and supportive, letting her stay at her house until she got better, using her medical skills to check her over in her comfortable living room rather than in the daunting, harsh environment of a hospital. She had let (Y/N) borrow her guest room and had provided her with any clothes she had needed during her stay. She felt…, comfortable. Safe. But she couldn’t deny that she was still shaken after her whole ordeal with the raven-haired man.
While it was clear he had known her name, she didn’t know his; didn’t know anything about him other than he had assaulted her and been taken into police custody for it. While part of her was viciously happy at the thought of him behind bars, another more confusing part of her was screaming at her to help him, almost as if something inside her knew him in a way the rest of her didn’t. She quickly shook off the feeling, focusing on the satisfaction of knowing he was getting a just punishment for his actions, hoping she’d be the last in what she assumed was a string of his victims.
But even when she was being taken care of by a nice, talented doctor, and her captor was being sent to jail, and she had a handsome detective on standby to protect her at a moment’s notice until she was cleared by Hanji to go home, the incident still made her want to scream, to cry, to curl into a ball and forget everything. She could only find some semblance of comfort from the thought that she couldn’t remember the assault, too drugged out or unconscious to remember any of what had happened that night.
But a week and a half had passed since then, and with each day of consistent vomiting, and hormone changes, and random food cravings, (Y/N) had the horrible suspicion that she was pregnant. Again, a strange part of her felt warm and tingly at the thought, as if she had planned for this, making her groan in pain and frustration. She really hoped she didn’t have some resemblance of Stockholm Syndrome, his looks and charisma making her feel as if she were in love with him despite what he had done to her.
Another knock sounded on the door, followed by Hanji’s concerned voice. “Are you sure, you’re alright, (Y/N)? I’m worried about you, hun.”
“I’m coming,” (Y/N) said, her lip twitching at the concern in Hanji’s voice. She couldn’t express her appreciation for the surprisingly energetic woman, how sweet she was without pitying her, how gentle she was without treating her as if she were made of glass.
Washing her hands quickly, (Y/N) unlocked the door and joined Hanji in the kitchen where she had made her some pancakes with bacon, no eggs at (Y/N)’s insistence after the smell of them on the first day had sent her running to the bathroom.
“Thanks again, Doctor Zoe,” (Y/N) said when the woman forked the bacon onto her plate, the doctor waving her hand dismissively at her gratitude.
“It’s really no problem, (Y/N). It’s my job to take care of you to the best of my ability and that’s what I’m going to do. You’ve been through a lot, you deserve to feel comfortable and relaxed,” Hanji said, trying not to cringe at the way her once best friend called her name so formally. It wasn’t a lie, she had been through a lot, it just wasn’t what she knew (Y/N) was thinking.
The thought made Hanji want to cry, knowing how much it was hurting both of them. She had met with Levi the other day under the guise of getting more groceries, wanting to check on him as both a friend and a doctor, only to find a wreck of the once proud man she knew. She had come into his home, an alarm bell going off in her head when she noticed he hadn’t cleaned in days. Finding him on the couch, messy and hunched over, his clothes wrinkled and his hair a mess as he stared at a photo of the two of them horseback riding together, had almost broken her. She had relented a little, giving him a hug despite the grunt of annoyance he gave, a watery smile forming on her lips as he still managed to show his disdain for her hugs, but it had quickly disappeared when he started sobbing quietly, his shaking shoulders telling her before his tears did.
Shaking her head a little, Hanji pushed the image to the back of her mind, using it to fuel her determination to get (Y/N)’s memories back rather than letting her depression take over. She had to do this, for both of them, no matter what.
“Hey, Doctor Zoe,” (Y/N)’s quiet voice snapped Hanji out of her musings, prompting her to look around the corner from where she had been cleaning the kitchen to look at her patient, fighting the tears back at how weak she looked. So different from the best friend she had known and lost.
“Yes, (Y/N), what is it? Are you hurting somewhere?”
“Doctor Zoe…, I think I might be pregnant.”
Hanji froze, her eyes widening.
Shit. Shit.
Hanji still hadn’t told her, had been too afraid to. She hadn’t even known how. How do you even begin to explain to a person that they were pregnant with a baby they had planned for and consciously made with a person they now believed to be a sexual predator? She had spent days mulling over how best to explain it to her, but now all of that was thrown out the window. She had been so focused on everything else, she hadn’t even considered the fact that (Y/N) might figure it out for herself.
(Y/N) noted the look on Hanji’s face, her eyes narrowing. Her lips parted for a moment, shock flying across her face before she schooled her expression, her eyes hard. “Doctor Zoe…, you know, don’t you? I need you to tell me the truth.”
Hanji swallowed hard and made her way slowly over to the table, (Y/N) standing up to meet her half way, her gaze never leaving her doctor’s face.
“Doctor Zoe, tell me right now. Am I pregnant with that monster’s child?”
____________________________
Hanji took a deep breath as Erwin parked the car in front of Levi’s house, a shuddering sigh passing through the detective as well.
“Thank you for being here, Erwin,” Hanji whispered, unrestrained tears streaming down her face.
“It’s no problem, none at all. I know you’re going to need some serious help with this one.”
Hanji hummed noncommittally, her brain screaming at her to turn around, to drive away, to hide in a dark corner and cry. She had no idea what to expect other than sheer chaos, but she knew she had to do this. If she didn’t do this now, she knew nothing could compare to the sorrow he would feel later.
“Let’s go,” Erwin said, placing a hand on her shoulder, his icy blue gaze meeting her chocolaty brown ones, his anguish apparent.
Hanji nodded, placing her hand over Erwin’s before they both slid out of the car, rejoining to hold each other’s hands, supporting each other so they could support their hurting friend, as they made their way to the door.
Entering without knocking, knowing it was unlocked, Erwin and Hanji didn’t have to look to know where to find Levi, heading straight for the living room where he had spent the past week and a half, never gaining the strength nor the desire to go anywhere near their bedroom. They found him looking blankly out the window, not even turning around when they entered the room.
“Any news?” Levi asked, his voice devoid of emotion.
“Actually, yes,” Erwin sighed.
“Really!? What is it!?” Levi suddenly perked up, racing over to his friends, his eyes wild as he looked between them, not daring to let hope sing in his veins in case it wasn’t the news he was looking for. After a moment, he was glad he didn’t.
“Levi,” Hanji choked out, tears springing to her eyes as she spoke. “She found out about the baby, but her memories still aren’t back to normal. She…, she wants to… she wants to terminate it.”
Levi felt the world shift beneath his feet. Stumbling back, his chest was heaving and his heart was screaming as his body sagged against the wall.
“No…, no, no, no!” Levi whispered over and over again, shaking his head. Not their baby, not the bundle of joy they had been trying for for so long, not the light that had surprised them a month ago with their presence, making Levi and (Y/N) feel the happiest they had ever felt. “No, no, no, no…”
Hanji hugged herself, hanging her head and ignoring when her glasses clattered to the floor, not even checking for broken lenses like she usually did when they came off her face. “A-And she said that…, she said that I’m the only one she trusts to do it…,” Hanji gasped, tears streaming down her face in waterfalls.
Looking up, she caught Levi’s eye, his expression unreadable as she watched him. The intensity and uncertainty in his gaze broke the normally energetic, steadfast woman, Hanji sinking to her knees as she sobbed into her hands.
“Levi, I’m so sorry, I’m so so sorry! I don’t want to do this, I don’t want to take this from either of you, but I don’t know what else to do! I know that if I don’t agree to it that she’ll find someone else, someone who doesn’t know the situation and won’t hesitate to perform the procedure. I’ve told her for now that I have to think about it since I don’t do those procedures often and I want a full health report back from her psychologist, but I can only put it off for so long,” Hanji sobbed, leaning into Erwin when he kneeled down to hold her close, petting her hair and making soft cooing sounds.
“Normally, I wouldn’t have a problem with it, it’s the woman’s choice, it’s her body, but this situation is so fucked up! I know this isn’t what (Y/N) wants because she made this baby with the man she loves, her husband, and if she gets her memories back and finds out what I did to her-”
“Hanji,” Levi’s voice snapped her out of her ramblings, shocked to find Levi kneeling in front of her, his hand titling her chin up gently. “This isn’t your fault. Thank you for everything you’ve done in taking care of her…, and me.”
Levi looked away, swallowing the lump that had formed in his throat. Reaching up with his free hand, he touched the barely noticeable mark that was on his neck from when she had cut him.
“I want you to know that it’s okay. You’re right, this situation is fucked up, but we’ve been backed into a corner. As much as I hate it, as much as it will fucking kill me to have this happen, I will not force her to go through with something she doesn’t want. Especially something of this magnitude. We can wait for her memories to come back, keep trying harder to help her, but if they haven’t returned by the time her psychologist reports come back as sound…,” Levi couldn’t bring himself to say it, but his friends knew what he meant.
Leaning forward, Erwin and Hanji opened their arms and brought Levi in close, the raven-haired man tensing for a moment before melting into their comforting hold. All three of them sat on the floor of Levi’s living room, the dying sun staining the wood red as they cried, holding each other tightly as they silently begged for things to finally get better.
_____________________________
(Y/N) gave a wry smile as Hanji handed over the reports she had gotten in the mail, all of them from the psychologist that had carefully examined (Y/N) after her incident. While most of them had random information about therapists in the area and available medications from trauma, the page she really focused on was the paper that declared her mentally stable, even after such a traumatizing event. She would still need to heal, but she had been deemed mentally and emotionally capable enough to make her own decisions.
(Y/N) subconsciously placed a hand over the very slight swell of her stomach, letting out a sigh as she looked up at Hanji. “Thank you Doctor Zoe, for everything.”
Hanji merely nodded, not trusting herself to speak as she shook (Y/N)’s hand, as if she hadn’t spent years hanging out with (Y/N), going out to bars together, and taking some of their general education classes together when they first started college. As if she hadn’t gone to (Y/N)’s wedding and gotten drunk off her ass at the reception, giving one of the most hilarious and simultaneously heartfelt speeches she had ever given, much to (Y/N)’s entertainment and Levi’s embarrassment.
Hanji couldn't stop it then, the tears springing to her eyes before she could hold them back. She could see (Y/N) tilting her head in confusion, could see her eyes widening in alarm through her blurred vision, but she didn’t have the ability to explain, her throat closing up.
Before (Y/N) could even ask what was wrong, Hanji launched herself at the poor girl, ignoring her squeak of surprise as she held her close, sobbing into her shoulder. “(Y/N), I’m so sorry, I am so so sorry…,”
“What the hell do you have to be sorry for?” (Y/N) asked incredulously, only making Hanji cry harder.
“Hey.”
Hanji opened her eyes at (Y/N)’s soft voice, blinking at the sight of her once closest friend leaning down in front of her, holding her face in her palms. “Why are you crying?”
Hanji sniffled and managed to swallow the lump in her throat, forcing the words out. “I just…, I know this will sound strange but,” Hanji sighed. “I love you, (Y/N), and I’m going to miss you.”
It was like (Y/N) was struck by lightning, the words clanging through her, her entire body tingling as she froze. Everything. She felt, heard, saw, everything. She remembered. She remembered going to college with Hanji, hanging out with her on the weekends as they studied together and teased each other about their various crushes. She remembered meeting Erwin when Hanji brought him around for dinner one night after she had been pulled over by him on the way to (Y/N)’s house, the dazed cop not expecting to get a date and a free meal out of giving someone a speeding ticket.
And she remembered Levi. Her beloved husband. She remembered meeting him, getting to know him, going on dates together, their wedding, and of course, the day she told him about her pregnancy, the way he had smiled the widest she had ever seen, tears in his eyes as he crushed her to him, thanking her over and over again for giving him the family he never had as she beamed bright enough to rival the sun.
Hanji had felt (Y/N) stiffen, heard the gasp that  had ripped from her throat and quickly released her, berating herself for letting her emotions get in the way of her logic. (Y/N) still had no idea who she was, it was as if a near stranger had given her a hug and claimed they loved her. Of course she was freaked out, and after everything she was already dealing with, this was the last thing she needed.
“(Y/N), I’m sorry, that was a really unprofessional thing to do, I know you’re probably confused and-”
Hanji was cut off by the feeling of (Y/N) wrapping her arms around the doctor’s middle and holding her close. Hanji’s eyes were wide and she held her breath, hardly daring to hope. “(Y/N)?”
“Hanji, it’s me, I remember! I remember everything!”
“Y-You do!?”
“I do,” (Y/N) said, lifting her head and looking up at her best friend, her eyes shining brightly with love and recognition.
“(Y/N)! YOU’RE FINALLY BACK!” Hanji screeched, hugging her friend back tightly, making sure to stay aware of her slightly extended belly.
“I’m back,” (Y/N) murmured, rubbing her face into Hanji’s jacket, relishing in the  feeling of knowing her best friend again.
“How?” Hanji asked in awe, her eyes shining with fresh tears of relief and joy.
“Your words! When you said, ‘I know this will sound strange, but I love you’, it snapped me out of it! Those were the words Levi used almost exactly to confess to me when he finally realized he felt something more for me than just friendship,” (Y/N) said, beaming brightly.
“I’m so glad you’re back, (Y/N), I missed you so- OH MY GOD, LEVI!” Hanji suddenly screamed. “He doesn’t know yet! We have to go tell him right now!”
(Y/N) immediately pushed away from Hanji, having completely forgotten in her moment of clarity and excitement that Levi was still alone at their house, had been for two weeks.  Scrambling to the car, Hanji wasted no time in throwing the car into reverse before tearing out onto the road, calling Erwin as they drove.
____________________________
Levi was staring out the window when he heard his door explode open, causing him to glance back despite the fog that rested over his mind and body. He figured maybe Hanji had finished with the procedure early and was coming to console him, or maybe it was Erwin, coming to make sure he didn’t do anything brash.
When he turned, he found he was partly right, his two best friends standing in the entryway to his living room, but for the first time in weeks, they had silly grins on their faces, their eyes bright with joy and tears of relief.
“LEVI!” Hanji screamed. “(Y/N), she remembered! She remembers everything! (Y/N) is back!”
Levi’s eyes widened and his body tightened, waiting for this to just be some sick dream. His breath caught and he struggled to get the words out, to ask for the confirmation he needed, to make sure what they were telling him was true.
“Levi!?”
That voice. Full of concern and desperation and-
Love.
He hadn’t heard her voice sound like that in so long, and his body went weak at the sound of it. “(Y/N)!?” His voice was strained with his desperation to see her.
“Levi!”
Tears immediately sprang to his eyes when his wife finally rounded the corner, her own eyes widening at the sight of him. Letting out a strangled cry, (Y/N) bolted at him, Levi rushing to meet her head on, before crushing her to him, his arms wrapping around her in a way that told her he was never letting go.
They were both sobbing, Levi crying into her hair as she cried against his chest, scrunching the fabric of his shirt in her fists. Levi was quieter than (Y/N) in his relief, but filled with no less emotion, his heart finally being pieced back together at the feeling of his beloved wife back in his arms again.
“Levi, Levi, oh gods, Levi,” (Y/N) whispered over and over again between sobs. “I am so fucking sorry for everything I put you through, for everything I said, none of it was true, I promise. I don’t know what happened but I remember you now, and I love you and I missed you so much. I am so sorry.”
“It’s okay,” Levi muttered into her hair, his deep voice calming her fried nerves. “It wasn’t your fault, I’m here now, and I’m never letting you go again, do you understand me? I love you so fucking much, baby.”
(Y/N) buried her face even deeper into his shirt, her body shaking against his in her relief as Levi murmured “I’ve got you,” repeatedly, gently rocking her from side to side. Hanji and Erwin watched for a moment before leaving to give the couple some privacy.
“Is the baby okay?” Levi asked after a while, pulling away only to check her all over, his hands gently feeling over her skin with featherlight touches.
“Yes, yes, the baby is fine,” (Y/N) said, a tiny bit of bitterness in her voice as she remembered what she had asked Hanji to do before her memories came back. “I can’t believe I almost-”
“Shhh, don’t think that way. You had every reason to want to when you were in that situation, but you’re here now and we are all safe.”
Levi brought her back into a tight hug, the two of them sinking down onto the couch together, (Y/N) shifting to curl up in his lap.
“I love you, Levi, I love you so much. I’m sorry I ever called you a monster, and said those horrible things about you, and t-tried to c-cut you…,”
“(Y/N), remember what I said? It wasn’t your fault. You can’t have any regrets, alright? I’m okay, you’re okay, the baby is okay, and we are all together now. I’ve got you, sweetheart, I’ve got you both, now and forever.”
Summary: Lars has no idea what he was expecting the moment Steven texted him in the middle of the night to ask if he could come over, but being immediately tackled in an intense vice-grip of a hug the second he opened the door probably wasn’t it.
Set mid SUF.
I don’t think I’ve ever gotten to write Lars’ POV before this, but it was really fun! If you read this and enjoy, I’d greatly appreciate your support through reblogs here, or kudos/comments on AO3. Thank you! <3
____
Besides the quiet lull of the TV and the electric hum of the attic’s rickety old heater, all is silent in the Barriga household. The nighttime streets outside are vacant. Not a soul roams through his section of town, not even the newer Gem arrivals, who thankfully have been informed of humanity’s biologically mandated curfew by now. Sheesh, it’s about time.
After all, silence is peace. And in this day and age, in a world where the barriers between human and intergalactic politics are becoming increasingly blurred by the hour, peace is a gift.
Which is why having free time to play whatever old video games he wants in complete and total solitude at one AM is probably the single thing keeping him sane at this moment.
Lars’ fingers expertly flick at the joysticks of the controller as if by innate memory. It genuinely feels like forever since he’s been able to lose himself for hours in a solo campaign like this, and quite honestly, if given a choice he prefers it to any other leisurely activity. Chatting with his online friends or with that Gem gang of his is fun, sure, and working the counter at his bake shop can often be emotionally satisfying, but pushed too long and any kind of social interaction feels draining. He shifts on his bed, paying little to no attention to the slight chill against his bare chest. He’s pretty sure it’s like, near freezing outside and yet somehow it’s no more an annoyance to him than having to pause to reload an ammo clip in this game. It’s weird. Really weird. But then, at this point everything about his dumb life is.
It’s the Steven effect, he thinks with a soft scoff. Weird practically orbits him and his moms, and inevitably, every person he comes in contact with is brought into the fold. He’s a good kid, though. Don’t get him wrong. Steven always tries his best to be thoughtful when dealing with people he doesn’t understand— even when initially those people just act like dicks in return— and he for one is grateful for that, for the gift of a... a second chance. He knows full well he didn’t deserve it, (he still doesn’t), but he’s grateful.
The kid’s still on his mind when his phone lights up on the nightstand beside him, like the now familiar glow of Gems synchronizing to fuse.
(And goddamnit, does a part of him still balk almost two years later that it’s so normal to be casually relating everyday things to outer space Gem stuff anyways. What is he, with his pink hair and alien friends, the main character of an anime?)
Eyes skirt away from the grainy television set he’s been playing his favorite Immortal Combat on, and glance at the new notification.
Steven, the name at the top of the text reads. Well, lo and behold. The true shounen protagonist himself. Somebody’s ears must have been burning. Though, hmm. Come to think of it, that’s actually unusual. They pass bullshit memes back and forth sometimes, yes, but he never sends him anything this late at night.
Lars frowns, failing to obscure that annoying, instinctual worry that seizes him like the long lost sensation of hunger rising from the pit of his stomach, and scoots forward on his bed to grab his phone. What’s he want at this hour, anyways?
Steven: hey, sorry i know its late but can i come over ?
His frown deepens as he glances down at himself, clad in only a pair of boxers. He doesn’t mind having an unexpected visitor— after all, it’s not like he requires sleep anymore— but he’s not exactly dressed for company, here.
yeah but gimme a mo, he types back. kinda need to put on a shirt
Steven: k
Yawning out of sheer habit, he leans over the other side of the bed and grabs the first decent smelling tee he can find off the floor. It’s got an overlapping triangular emblem on it, a symbol from one of the game series he used to be obsessed with as a kid. He quickly shrugs it and a stray pair of sweatpants on, then returns to his phone.
decent now, he updates him.
The response is almost immediate.
Steven: be there soon
With a heavy inhale, he leans back against the headboard and begins to mentally prepare himself for the passage of One Whole Teenage Boy through the portal in his hair. For the most part he’s grown used to the changes caused by Steven’s literal magic resurrection, but not this. Who the hell knows how his pet lion puts up with it all the time. Quite frankly, how that creature has remained so docile and patient after years of interloping within Steven’s chaotic world of Gems eludes him, ‘cause it sure as hell isn’t a side effect of all the death-defying space voodoo.
Also, he’s like, 97% sure that “docile” and “patient” aren’t words anyone would pick to describe him at any stage of his life, ever.
And yet, yawning in his boredom, Lars waits.
And he waits.
And he waits.
And when eventually he breaks his stubborn streak and dares to check the time on his phone to see how many minutes have elapsed, how many minutes of his thrice-damned maybe infinite lifespan he’s wasted sitting up against the far wall of his room waiting for that kid to tumble right out of the literal inter-dimensional door hidden amidst the curls atop his head, he’s mildly surprised that his first emotional response to this delay is... dare he admits... disappointment.
It’s been nearly fifteen minutes. For whatever unknown reason, it seems as if Steven may not be coming over after all. Huh. He wonders what changed his mind. Pressing his lips into a thin line, Lars decides to check his texts. It’s possible the guy wrote something else and he just didn’t see it. But when he pulls up his latest conversation, all that comes up are the last messages they sent to each other. Be there soon, he said.
He hovers hesitant fingers over the keyboard, caught in the midst of trying to decide whether or not it’s too invasive and prying to send some sort of casual check-in, when he picks up on a very timid knock on the front door downstairs. And given the lateness of the hour, there’s really only one person it could be. He blinks for a moment, his mind still doing somersaults in order to process the mere concept of Steven not gleefully taking the opportunity to explode out of his hair for once in his life, and then drags himself up to his feet. Walks out of his attic room and down the stairs, being careful not to disturb his slumbering parents. Unlatches the locks on the door.
Truth be told he has no idea what he was expecting the moment Steven texted him at one fucking AM to ask if he could come over, but being immediately tackled in an intense vice-grip of a hug the second he opened the door probably wasn’t it.
He struggles not to stumble backwards at the initial force of the teen’s silent yet yearning embrace, eventually regaining his stability and... slowly, delicately... hugging him back. Honestly, he’s never been much of a hugger himself, but eh. He’ll give the guy this one. After a brief moment Lars gives him a few awkward pats, clearing his throat.
“Uh, Steven? You good to let go, now?” he asks quietly, still keeping his voice in a whisper for his parents’ benefit.
“Oh! Y-yeah, yeah,” his younger friend stammers, immediately pulling himself away. His eyes are drawn to the floor as he wrings his hands together. Timid. “Sorry, I just— I just needed somewhere I could clear my head tonight. Thank you, by the way.”
“No problem,” he throws back, gesturing for him to follow up the stairs. “‘S not like I ever sleep a wink now anyways. So I might as well have company.”
The two of them tiptoe towards the attic, a familiar setting for both. Steven’s been in here quite a few times before, so— already knowing the lay of the land— he plops himself down in the beanbag chair Lars keeps at the foot of his bed. They don’t talk about much of anything at first, merely passing back and forth brief updates about their lives. Small talk, nothing more. As expected though, Steven’s update is infinitely more interesting than his. Apparently he went on some mission to an alien planet with that Lapis friend of his the other day and had to deal with the attitude of some stubborn terraformers who didn’t want to stop working on their shitty old Homeworld assignment. (Meanwhile, the only update he has to offer is how he’s teaching Blue Lace Agate the art of bad baking puns while at work. Gotta leave behind some sort of legacy before he leaves with his fellow Off-Colors, of course.)
When the small talk finally dries up, (which seems... uncharacteristic, given the typical enthusiasm of his current visitor), Lars offers him a second controller.
“We can play the go-kart one, if you want,” he says, knowing full well that his friend isn’t a huge fan of all his war-themed combat games. Still, he figures the guy could probably stand to blow off a little steam. He looks super stressed, with his brow all creased and his stare unnervingly glassy.
The sixteen-year-old nods, adjusting his hands around the grips of the controller as Lars switches out the disk.
They race a few rounds in relative quiet, wholly insulated by the reassuring stillness of the night all around them, before Steven decides to open up again.
“Where do you think the line is?” he asks when they finish their current course.
His whole face scrunches in confusion. “Huh?”
“Between like, doing bad things, and outright being bad?” he continues, seemingly unaware of the comedic pulse of Lars’ initial response.
Lars blinks.
Considers these words deeply and thoroughly for a moment, as any good friend should.
And then...
“Where the heck did you pull that question from?”
Steven merely shrugs, his shoulders drooping a bit lower than they had been when he first entered his house a while back. “I dunno, just musing, ‘s all.”
The edges of his mouth curl downwards as he lets this corker of a conversation starter wash over him, not so much intended as a frown at Steven, but a frown at... whatever force of this universe would lead his friend to start musing about such depressing philosophical quandaries in the first place. Acting numb and brooding at the rest of the world is supposed to be his job, not this kid’s! And sure, yes, yes, yes, he knows he can’t exactly call him a kid anymore— at least not to his face— and that he’s been a teenager for a good three years now. It’s just that... well. For all his complaints about it earlier in life, Lars kinda grew to respect and feel uplifted by his cheery, upbeat, never-give-up-hope outlook. Dare he says, he kinda misses it.
(And for Steven’s sake, he kinda hoped he’d never discover the burnout and cynicism waiting on the other side. Alas, he fears that ship has probably sailed.)
“Sorry,” the sixteen-year-old mumbles upon noting his extended silence, his cheeks flushed with shame. “Probably not something anyone wants to think about at two in the morning. Just- forget I said anything, okay? Let’s play one more round, and then I can lea—“
Eyes widening, he holds up a hand to intercept that train of thought. “No, that’s— you asked an interesting question. Deep, but interesting. It’s fine, I don’t mind. I...”
He inhales deep, collecting his wits and whatever years of wisdom he may or may not have accumulated ever since dying and coming back to life.
“I suppose in my mind, people aren’t truly bad unless they intend to cause harm, y’know?” he begins, meeting Steven’s eyes. “You can still hurt others without meaning it, and like... that’s still not great, and you should still try and make up for it however you can, but... life’s complicated. People are complicated. It’s all a huge mess of emotions and ethics and beliefs all the time.”
He pauses, a twinge of melancholy rising within his chest as he catches a glimpse of a photograph hung on one of the wooden support beams at the far wall. It’s a selfie of him and Sadie he printed out a few years back when they were still low-key dating, one that— for the life of him— he can’t bear to take down. She’s kissing his cheek. He’s caught in the middle of laughter, playfully trying to nudge her away. They look... so young.
So naive.
(So human.)
“And sometimes it can be so, so easy to convince yourself that you’re always in the right,” he continues, quieter, “that people feeling hurt because of something you did is just their problem. In that case, it’s not that you wanted to harm anyone, it’s just... that you were blind to it, I guess.”
(And he was blind for a long, long time.)
“Like I said, it’s messy.”
Lars sighs, willfully averting his glance from the photographic reminder of all the ways he ignorantly fucked up with Sadie as a friend and partner, and with everyone in his life, making the same stupid mistakes over and over with nearly no improvement until he literally died to his old self.
“So, yeah. There. I guess that’s my opinion,” he mumbles, absentmindedly fiddling with the collar of his graphic tee. “Everyone makes bad choices sometimes, but you’re not actually a bad person unless you literally want to harm others. I don’t think people are bad once and bad forever, though,” he adds, pulling his hand away from his shirt.
Inhaling deep, he splays his palm wide, admiring those same old loops and whorls at the tips of his fingers, identical in every detail to his old, living, human self... but now pink. It's haunting, sometimes.
“People can change, y’know? If they make the effort to.”
When he finally glances back at Steven, he seems thoroughly spaced out by all his impassioned rambling, his gaze walleyed and void of any identifiable emotion. He scowls, unsure whether or not he should feel offended, and gives an exaggerated shrug to defuse the sickeningly earnest atmosphere out of this room.
“But hey, I’m biased,” he mutters, letting that instinctual, age-old self-depreciation coat his tone once more. “For all I know, everything I said could be absolute bunk, and I’m still just an asshole.”
“I don’t think you’re an asshole, Lars,” Steven finally speaks up, his expression still perplexingly unreadable.
“I—“ His eyes blow wider, the sheer frankness of this comment catching him entirely off guard, overturning all of his once-impenetrable defenses. “...Thank you. I’m trying not to be.”
The conversation doesn’t advance any further from there, both parties content to fade back into the understated comfort of silent companionship. They play a few more rounds of their racing game, Lars beating Steven handily each time. (Truth be told, he’s not confident he’s bringing his A-game, though.) Then, sometime around three AM, his friend drags himself out of the beanbag chair and announces that he should probably head home and get some rest. Apparently he’s got a lot of planning to do for Little Homeschool's graduation ceremony that’s happening in a few days, or whatever. Which, is fair. Not everyone is blessed enough to be a sleepless zombie like him.
“Y’know, it’s been nice, getting to hang out, just us,” Steven says— quiet, but genuine— as Lars leads him back down the stairs. “We should do this more often.”
Purposefully, given the unusual emotional atmosphere of this whole visit, he decides not to mention the fact that he's planning to leave Earth again when his all Gem friends finally graduate. Later, he thinks, when everyone's in a better place.
“Well, if you’re ever bored, you know where to reach me,” he replies as they reach the bottom step, fondly rolling his eyes. “The good ol’ inter-hair-mensional express. Just, y’know— text me. And not during work hours.”
The teen gives his thanks once again, and then exits out the front, making sure to be extra gentle shutting the door on his way out for his parents’ sake. Huh. Seems that even when he’s (seemingly) in a funk, he’s capable of being uber courteous like that. Goodness, how does he do it?
Lars stands motionless at the entryway for a few moments after he’s gone, staring blankly at the now empty space the sixteen-year-old just occupied. His brow furrows, his fingers curling in perplexion at his side. He doesn’t have enough insight into Steven’s inner life to claim anything for sure, but he can’t help but feel like something with that boy was... off, tonight. Like, beyond your standard teenage moodiness. His demeanor, his bizarre and specific question, his relative silence... it all seems to be pointing towards something, lurking in the background. Still, there’s little he can do for a person who’s not volunteering information. And it ain’t his job to drag it out of him, either. He always hated when his parents tried to do that when he was younger, and it almost ruined their relationship entirely. That’s the last sorta scenario he’d want to force upon Steven. He’ll open up when he’s ready, in the end.
And until then... well.
He just hopes that the kid knows that— beyond the bizarre magic portal in that pink lion’s mane— he’s always got a brother on the other side who’s willing to at least listen. To be but a small source of support.
If he wants him to be.
The Art Of Seduction
Or alternatively: Zuri asks Nate for advice on how to woo Adam.
A little thing I wrote a while ago and forgot to post, based off of this ask. No warnings! Just pure shenanigans!
-
She was knee-deep in her research on sirens, her nose buried between the slightly worn pages of a heavy tome, grumbling beneath her breath whenever one of her theories were debunked. Zuri spent a large amount of her childhood (and, if she's being honest, hour long phone calls with Tina and Lucille well into adulthood) speculating about the existence of supernaturals. The world, the solar system, the universe, all seemed too large for humans and animals to be the only beings that existed. There had to be something else, they had to be real, whether it came to be due to freak accidents in labs or evolution.
One could only imagine her delight when she was proven right (though she held in her squeals when the truth was revealed; they were living beings, not something to pick and prod at). Ever since then, she soaked up all she could find about them, tracing myths and legends back to the tomes with enthusiasm. Something Nate seemed to appreciate about her.
So there they were, sequestering themselves in the library and soaking in the contents of books that had lived longer than her, each one possessing glaring characteristics, words written by different hands and dog-eared by another.
She had grumbled twice more before Nate tore his eyes away from the book in his hands, glancing at her with a raised brow. "Is everything alright?"
With that, she whipped off her reading glasses, carefully setting the tome on the table in front of her, nodding at his grateful smile before launching into a rant, brows pinched together as she listed each inaccuracy on the internet with her fingers. He watched on, eyes wide and dancing with amusement.
And then the conversation took a different turn.
Seduction and sirens were two words that fell hand-in-hand in most discussions revolving around the sea creature, despite the falsity surrounding the subject (and his smile strained for a split second, as if he was pinched and forced to swallow a hiss. Her train of thought slowed, something sinister creeping out of the shadows of her mind because that wasn't good. That was her fault and she should lea-)
"Adam."
His name leapt out of her mouth with the eagerness of a kid learning to curse (getting to the point was a surefire way to get out of his hair swiftly). Nate's lips formed an oh before curling into the wisp of a teasing smile. He knew what she was going to ask.
"You know him better than anyone," she said, shifting on the velvet couch to drape her legs over the armrest, her muscles aching from sitting cross legged for so long. "How would one, hypothetically, go about uh - for lack of better words - seducing him."
His answer? Subtly. Gently, slowly and subtly.
Zuri pursed her lips. She thought she was well versed in the art of seduction; a wink, a smile, genuine compliments, a spritz of perfume and a blazing, brief touch, stimulating the five senses enough to leave her prospects wanting more. But that was easy to do when people loved the idea of you. Coaxing someone, drawing them out of the corner they pressed themselves against in fear, is not something she has had to do in her love life.
"Is that all you're willing to give me?" She asked, her lips purposefully trembling as she pouted. The puppy dog eyes had an eighty percent success rate, and previous occasions have shown that Nate is not immune.
And yet…
He perked up, his smile growing as he glanced back down at the book. "Perhaps we should see how well you do with the information you have."
"Please? I'm sure you have more spine-tingling advice tucked away in that beautiful brain of yours."
He chuckled and turned to the door just as it swung open.
Her heart seized in her chest, a pause in its steady rhythm.
He's here.
Adam stepped into the room, lips parted as if he was going to say something, words catching in his throat as their eyes met.
A smile crawled onto her face, and before she could stop herself, words escaped her lips in the form of a dreamy sigh. "Aren't you a sight for sore eyes."
Gently, slowly and subtly.
Shit.
She ducked her head and facepalmed, a resounding smack accompanied by the sound of Nate's stifled laughter.
Hiiii! May I have Masumi scenario where he falls for director's friend who is a singer as a hobby (the boy needs some love and respect, I always feel bad for him T_T). Thank you for the great content!
First things first! Thank you for suggesting the request dear 💕 Second thing, this got longer than I thought so you’ll have a second part soon!
Masumi’s still underage so I also had to choose a closer age for sweet reader but leaving a connection with Izumi and everything else intact. I hope you and everyone enjoy it. 💕
Title: More than I expected
Pairing: Masumi Usui x Singer!Reader
Masumi couldn’t believe his luck.
He was on his way back home when he saw Izumi’s figure in the distance, walking inside Veludo Station. Was that destiny? Hurriedly, he moved his feet in the same direction.
When he arrived looking for her, a pair of squeals caught his attention, more than anything because one of them came from Izumi. The other, from you.
Who is that?
He stumbled when he saw his dear director hugging you. He still hadn’t hugged her.
“You are so big Y/N…! Wow look at you.”
Izumi released the grasp as she moved around, looking at you up and down. You laughed at her enthusiasm “Izumi-san, it’s been less than a year since we saw each other.”
“And yet you look so different! It’s-“
“Director.”
You both turned to see the Hanasaki student standing next to you two.
“Masumi-kun! Didn’t see you there. Already back from school?” Masumi didn’t answer, frowning in silence in your direction “Ah, let me introduce you to Y/N! They were my neighbor in the area I lived before coming to Mankai”
“Hi there” you waved at him. He kept silently looking at you. Was he okay?
“…anyway, they are going to be living in a rental house close to our dorm. Please be friends with them, okay?”
“Izumi-san I’d like to remind you I’m starting my major this semester. I’m not a kid” Izumi stuck her tongue out playfully to you. You rolled your eyes amused.
The spring member saw all the luggage you had brought. So you were a friend of director’s, uh. He yawned. You didn’t look like competition, so he decided he didn’t care “Director, let’s go to our house”
“I’d appreciate you didn’t phrase it like that, Masumi-kun.”
“Member of your theatre company?” she confirmed your suspicions. You two had talked a bit about what she was up to whenever Izumi came back home to visit her mother. She had also been the one to mention the rental house near the dorm for you to move in after all.
“I’m going to go home later” Izumi explained while putting a hand on your shoulder “I met here with Y/N to help her move.”
“Me too.”
“Sorry what?”
“I’m helping too.”
                                        -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
“A major in vocal performance, that’s amazing! I am so happy you made your hobby turn into your dream. You have a great voice.” Izumi exuded genuine joy as you all headed to your place. “Do you still work on your music mockups? You used to have many”
You looked with the corner of your eyes how the boy just walked next to Izumi in silence, not really trying to take part in your conversation. Maybe he just wasn’t the talking type…? You decided not to pry. He had really taken a big part of your luggage, after all.
“Y/N?”
“Ah, sorry” you laughed, taking notice of her enthusiasm “Yes, well, If I find the time between lectures and work! I’m almost done, I hope. Heard there’s this famous company that accepts demos from new singers to promote themselves.”
“That’s so cool! I’m sure they’ll love you.”
You smiled. It felt good to see Izumi again after so long. She had always been like an old sister, supporting you as you grew up. You would always be grateful for her.
A few hours later, because it took longer than expected, Izumi ended up inviting you to have dinner at Mankai, much to Masumi’s luck.
                                            -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Weeks passed by as you finally got used to the whole aspect of living alone, not that there was much to do. Izumi kept telling you to come a few times a week to eat at the dorm and you had grown fairly confident in your control over the washing machine.
As a whole, your daily routine had also become easy to follow, however, something was up.
You had many trial demos in your apartment. Many. But nothing struck you enough to send it to that company people were all about, so you kept making more songs, hence, your stress.
You were starting to think it was because you had become too used to your sound that it started sounding bad “Maybe I should…” Having just left the station to head home from university, you noticed the quiet spring member stepping out of the Veludo music shop. You stopped walking, an idea forming in your head.
“Masumi!”
Recognizing your voice, the boy sighed. Every time you greeted him or asked how he was doing over dinner, Masumi found himself unable to push you away due to your relationship with Izumi.
“Ey! Sorry if this is sudden but I just remember Izumi-san telling me you liked music?” you mentioned as he left the store with you behind him.
“So.”
“Well! The thing is, I’m a singer. Or, well, an aspiring singer. It used to be a hobby but it grew on me you know.”
“Didn’t know”
You raised an eyebrow “We talked about it the day you helped me with my move, remember…? I’ve talked about it with everyone having dinner too.”
He shrugged, not bothering to answer.
“Anyway, I recalled Izumi-san telling me you have good taste in music, so I need your help with something”
He stopped walking and looked at you.
                                      -.-.-.-.-.-.-..-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
“Don’t you have friends to review your songs?”
“I do, but what I need is the opinion of a stranger that could as well tell me what to change and that…” you turned to point him as you opened the door to your apartment “…is where you enter.”
“Remember to-”
“Yes, yes, I promise to tell Izumi-san you helped me.”
He sighed, entering in your place. He hadn’t paid attention the first time, but it wasn’t that bad. Your room was filled with CDs. You had a microphone set and headphones standing in the corner, most likely to record yourself.
“What do I need to do so I can leave.”
You punched him in the back angry, could he get more impolite? “I want a few of my songs to be approved to promote myself but I’m not sure which ones, so I want to hear your thoughts. Easy right?”
Masumi sat on your bed as you prepared the room. He was only half paying attention when he heard you singing.
He hadn’t expected you to sound like that. He focused on your voice, low-key admitting you had a pretty good balance. The concept of the lyrics wasn’t that bad either. After you finished, you took off your headphones and looked at him, seeking opinion.
“So you really are trying to become a singer.”
“Want me to punch you again?”
Masumi shrugged “It was okay” he got up but was forced down when you pushed him “Hold on, Reynold-kun, I really need more than that before I send this in.”
“Reynold…?”
You looked at him as you sat on your study chair. By his confused look, he didn’t know him “Music critic? Famous for his sharp tongue? You guys would be twins!”
“Don’t call me that.”
“Then just tell me your opinion about my piece.”
You saw him frowning and although you kind of imagined at this point, you discovered that Masumi did not have a filter whatsoever. He started talking, spending a few minutes giving his thoughts. You whistled unconsciously as you grabbed a pen from the desk and started notes “Didn’t think about any of that…”
He leaned on the edge of your bed “Can I go now?”
“Do you mind if I ask you to come in a few days after I change some things?” you looked up at him.
“Don’t.”
“I’ll go to the dorm then” you shrugged. You had to admit he had impressed you “You ever thought about studying music? You have a good ear.”
He looked around the room. Truthfully a small part of him thought it hadn’t been bad, although he wouldn’t admit it “…never thought about it. Also, don’t come to the dorm.”
“Too late, Omi-san already sent me the menu. Your parents might disagree?
“I just need director.”
“Eh~” you smiled at him, your hand resting on your chin “But I didn’t ask that.”
For some reason, Masumi’s stomach twisted, a weird sensation running ”Stop smiling like that.”
                                       -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Over the next weeks, although mainly forced, Masumi saw himself spending more and more in your house.
At first, he had been uncooperative, not even with Izumi’s help. However, he soon discovered had lots of tracks from different types of music, many new. And so, while you corrected your songs, in exchange, you let him listen to the CDs. He had tried to take them home so he didn’t go that much, but you disapproved the idea of separating yourself from your precious discs.
He wouldn’t say it out loud, but it also didn’t bother him as much as he thought.
“Masumi do you- ah, are you going to Y/N’s place?” Tsuzuru looked at his roommate as he crossed paths with him in the entrance.
The student stopped before opening the door, unable to contradict him “…keeps bothering about their demo unless I go…what do you want.”
“We were just going shopping. It’s okay, I’ll ask Sakuya or someone else, say hello to Y/N for me.”
Tsuzuru had to hide the smile that grew on his face as the high schooler walked out of the dorm to yours.
Whenever you came to Mankai to have dinner now, the whole dorm had noticed how you had been able to enter his world fast. Well, as far as fast was in terms of Masumi’s walls.
“Tsuzuru-kun? Did you ask Masumi-kun to come?”
“He left to go to Y/N’s”
Izumi smiled when she heard the reason. It really had been a gratifying surprise when she saw how many conversations Masumi initiated with you. Mainly about music yes, but that wasn’t all. Over time, he seemed to have grown comfortable with you. The biggest changes were moments when he would still meet with you even though Izumi was asking for people to accompany her somewhere. They were rare of course, as Masumi still trailed behind most of the time, but they were there.
Izumi knew Masumi wasn’t conscious of it yet, but something inside him was changing, and you had become the key.
Part 2 here!
Starshine - T. Oikawa
A/n: I love Oikawa so much, he deserves all the love in the world and I am willing to risk it all for him thanks - here’s a little thing for him because why not 💙🤍💙
A gentle creak of metal filled the nearly empty playground, night having fallen long ago and children having been whisked away by their parents since. Two backpacks sat on a nearby bench, discarded by their owners for the time being, contents of one strewn haphazardly across the wooden planks of the seat.
Such an untidy display resulted from a quick retrieval of a large athletic jacket in the bag, one which draped comfortably over your shoulders and hid the entirety of your arms in its large sleeves. While absolutely not fitted to your form, the article of clothing felt oddly suited for you.
Rhythmic sounds of shifting chains resounded in your ears as large hands eased you forward with each swing backwards. Every push against your back was just barely firm, enough to keep up a bit of momentum but not to the point where the tempo would be thrown off.
Your head tilted slightly to the side, which was just enough to catch a glimpse of the male pushing you, and a smile ghosted your lips at the softness that prevailed on his features. It was a much better improvement from the tick in his jaw and the furrow in his brows from beforehand.
Back and forth. Back and forth.
Your gaze shifted upwards to the sky, where thousands upon thousands of glittering stars were visible. Your eyes shone with awe at the sight above as you spoke out, breaking the solitary lull of the moving swing.
“I can see so many stars tonight,” is what you settle for, seeing if he’ll bite at the conversation. If not, that was alright with you too. You didn’t mind the quiet, especially if it didn’t have to be spent alone.
You’d stay as long as necessary.
Fortunately, the male behind you accepted your bait, his motions slowing before gently grabbing hold of the swing’s slightly swaying chains to halt it completely.
“You’re right about that,” he murmured, keeping a hand on one side to keep you steady and pointing out with the other. “You can see the North Star right there.”
“Personally, I like the constellations the most,” you note, “but the North Star is cool too.”
“Why the constellations?” he inquired curiously, throwing a look in your direction.
You fell quiet for a moment, contemplating what to say. It’s not that you didn’t have an answer already swimming in your thoughts, but it was difficult to convey them into the right words.
“Because all these individual stars come together to create something just as incredible as the single brightest one in the sky,” you finally voiced.
Oikawa Tooru let out a breath behind you, the response catching him momentarily off guard. A series of movements occurred out of your vision, but they settled as quickly as they came, arms wrapping around your torso tightly. You could tell he was kneeled on the dirt now, but you didn’t comment on the fact that his clothes would likely get dirty in such a position.
“You always know just what to say,” Tooru huffed in disbelief. “How do you do that?”
“I just said what I thought,” you shrugged. Sleeve-covered hands toyed with the ones that enveloped you, and your motions successfully relaxed the third year who still clung to your form like it was his lifeforce.
As much as he urged people to be upfront with him, to disregard the ridiculous metaphors in favor of straightforward honesty, Oikawa himself never really enjoyed confronting his own personal predicaments in that manner. While he needed and appreciated someone like Iwaizumi, who was unapologetically blunt during a number of those situations, he still had a hard time willingly listening to such statements.
But here you were, his safe haven, in some impossible way a mixture of both methods which he had never fully understood or accepted for himself before. Rather, you were something new entirely. Purely honest in your words, yet able to keep every syllable that passed your lips light in topic. He had never experienced anything like you.
“Let’s go to an observatory someday soon,” you advocated, once again just barely swerving the true subject of conversation. “It’s even more beautiful when I can see them all out together.”
You knew that Oikawa adored the infinite expanses of space, a universe so far yet so present that you were somehow living in the midst of it. The brunette could speak of its wonders for hours on end if you let him. You were also a fan of the phenomenon as well, but what enraptured you more was his genuine enthusiasm, the way his face would brighten with the mere mention of something new he hadn’t known before.
So, you indulged him in his infatuations as long as he liked. It became a regular subject of discussion whenever the third year would find himself at a low point.
“I think I’d like to see them all together too,” he conceded. “The artificial light in the park makes them harder to identify, did you know that?”
A soft smile rested on your face with the factoid.
“I thought only city smog did that sort of thing.”
He hummed, resting his cheek on your back. “That too.”
Oikawa Tooru adored all of space, but he started to notice that the constellations were quickly becoming his favorite.
Honeymoon
Summary: Arthur and you spend the first night of honeymoon together.
Genre: fluff
Word count: 2,094
A/N: It’s been 84 years...I finally managed to finish something. Thank you @life-or-something-like-lt for taking the time to read this and proofreading it for me.
Tumblr media
Arthur was a hopeless romantic at heart but never really had the opportunity to express that side of himself outwardly. He constantly daydreamed of all the things he would do if he had a wife: waking up and going to sleep by her side, making her pancakes for breakfast, having late night drives after an evening at the cinema. Get a puppy or a kitten. Maybe both. Start a family tradition, order pizza every Saturday night.
There was so much he wanted to do, but he thought he would never get to do any of it...until he opened the hotel room door for you. He had a pleased smile on his face while you opened your mouth and eyes in wonder because of how beautiful the room was. The dim lights highlighted the intimate atmosphere of the bedroom. The scented candles smelled of cinnamon, clove and spiced apples. There were two red rose petals hearts linked to each other on a king size bed. There was also a trail of white, pink and red rose petals from the door to the bed.
Some would think all of that was cheesy and overdone, but you thought it was the sweetest thing anyone had ever done for you. The fact he actually thought of that made you feel so appreciated and you wondered how you got so lucky.
"You like it?" Even though it was obvious in your face, Arthur needed to hear you say it.
"It’s...I’m not sure what to say." You could feel your eyes watering a little and it was difficult to find the right words to describe how you really felt. “It’s so beautiful.” The decoration was simple, actually. What you really found beautiful was Arthur and how he went far and beyond for you. Consumed by your feelings for him, you said “thank you” in a whisper, holding back tears on your way to the bathroom, leaving a slightly confused Arthur behind.
There, you changed from your second wedding dress to comfortable new pajamas, removing your make-up. Arthur knocked on the door, a little worried about your delay. You opened the door, assuring him that everything was ok, and he changed places with you so he could change too. You sat down on the bed to wait for him. For months, all you could think about was that moment right there. Lifting up your right hand, you examined your ring finger. You and Arthur shared a simple matching wedding band set. They were made of gold and had your initials engraved inside with a small heart between them on one side, and the phrase “my one and only” on the other. You kissed yours, remembering how hard both of you had to work to buy them and how Arthur never gave up, no matter how far that dream seemed to be.
When he returned, he was wearing a very fluffy bathrobe and his hair was slightly humid, curlier than ever. Some of those curls fell softly on his forehead, and you felt an incredible urge to run out of bed and hug him tightly. When you did, he smiled and hugged you back even tighter.
"You're suffocating me!" You said between giggles.
"Oh really? What about now?" He kissed you everywhere while squeezing you a little more, making you laugh. He let you go, and once you caught your breath and stopped laughing, you couldn't help but smile at him. A genuine smile, filled with love that came from a place in you didn’t know that existed in you before Arthur. His eyes looked at you hypnotized, for you had the most angelic smile he had ever seen.
In silence, he pulled you back into the hug and, this time, it was a serious one. You placed your face in the crook of his neck and took a deep breath as if his smell was the only air you needed to live. His embrace was firm and the feeling of his hands on your back made you feel safe.
You ran your fingers through his hair, comforted by how smooth and fluffy it felt against your hand. He loved the way your touch made him forget about the rest of the world and the sounds he made of approval were like music to your ears. The movement you did on his hair made its smell fly in the air, and you inhaled the woody, fresh and sweet tobacco-based scent deeply.
You moved your head so you could look at him, softly rubbing your cheeks against his in the process. He held you so tightly it was impossible to put any real distance between your faces and having his eyes so close to yours was disarming. The contact between them was so intense you couldn't look away. His eyes were the most beautiful thing you had ever seen and the darkness of the room made them look the deepest forest green, which you said was your favorite color to anyone who asked after you met him. Even though a lot of people had looked at you, Arthur’s eyes were the only ones that had really seen you. The only ones that had dared to travel to the depths of your soul and said “this is my home and I will come back to it every day for the rest of my life”, and you gladly handed him the keys.
Your hands were on his shoulders and your touch was light as a feather. He touched your nose with his own and it was enough to make you weak. You needed to feel his lips on yours, but there was no rush when you were with Arthur because you needed to savor every moment, every touch. He rubbed his nose on yours with utmost delicacy and you closed your eyes, enjoying the peace his presence brought.
You moved your left hand to Arthur’s neck, caressing his skin with such tenderness like it was the most precious thing you had ever touched. Because it was. You rubbed his jawline with your thumb, guarding your urge to kiss it for later. You kissed the scar between his nose and his lips with the same adoration a believer kneels down on sacred ground. You used to think making love to someone would involve all of your body, but with him you learned your lips alone were capable of already doing so.
He gently placed his lips on yours, the mere gesture making you feel weak again, overwhelmed by his existence. He took your lower lip between his, then you took his upper lip between yours. For minutes, you took the time to savor each other, your souls in harmony, delighted to have found their mate. You ran your hands up and down your lover’s arms in an attempt to offer him at least an ounce of the comfort and tenderness he so selflessly gave you day after day.
Even though that wasn’t the first kiss you shared, something about it felt new. Like he had contained that kiss inside himself for a very long time. It was funny how he didn’t need to move himself too much for it to be intense – because that intensity wasn’t about speed – it was about his burning passion for you. He had waited for you his whole life and now that you were his, he would allow himself to explore every part of you like someone who gets lost in a new book, curious to know how it ends but desperate to never get there.
Arthur started to sway, as he normally would when he was in a good mood, moving your body along with his to the song only him could ever hear in his mind before he met you and found out your mind played it too. You smiled between kisses because it made you so happy to know he felt good. That he had gotten himself to a point in his life where he felt safe, stable, understood. He had a family now, a real one. You.
You straightened your back and tilted your head to the right, grabbing the collar of his bathrobe and licking his bottom lip, asking his mouth passage with your tongue. You craved the warmth his mouth brought and he eagerly granted it you, as if the lucky one was him. The greatest gift you had ever gotten was free, priceless. He bent towards you a little, lowering his hand on your back to support your body. You slid your tongue into his mouth, hungry for a taste of him. You moved your tongue above and below his, slowly savoring and exploring the territory. Arthur tasted of mint and a distant trace of smoke. You also tasted of mint, but with a note of the sweet champagne you had drank at the wedding reception. Arthur seemed to enjoy the combination of yours and his aromas as he moaned into the kiss, enveloping your lower lip and your tongue with his thin and soft, now wet lips.
Your mouths found a harmonious rhythm to dance to, and you tilted your head to left, rubbing your nose on his on the way. Arthur kept the slow pace for a while, until he felt the need to go faster, the speed leaving you breathless. You smoothly broke away from the kiss, loosening your grip on his bathrobe. You kept your eyes closed, absorbing the taste Arthur had left on your tongue. He pressed his forehead on yours, reaching for one of your hands and holding it there between your chests. Then, he firmly kissed your forehead, squeezing his eyes shut. His mind was nothing but an echo of “I love you, I love you, I love you...” and he silently prayed it would reach you somehow, that the universe would understand and hold you for him, protect you when he couldn’t. He would give up his own peace of mind if it meant making you happy, still not realizing your happiness was him, even after you had said “I do” with so much pride and enthusiasm in your voice one would think being his girlfriend, his fiancé, his wife was your greatest accomplishment.
It had only been a few seconds, but your lips missed his. You needed to feel him inside you again. You pushed Arthur to the bed, gently making him sit down. You placed yourself between his legs, still standing. His eyes burned with desire for you, wide open in devotion. You looked at him with fascination, lost in his beauty. No matter how many times you saw him, it never failed to take your breath away. He placed his hands on your waist, and you placed yours on his shoulders. He kissed your neck with as much passion as he did your lips, electrifying your whole body. He went back to your lips and you kissed him more deeply this time. He loved how soft your now puffy lips felt against his, remembering the days before you even knew of his existence when the idea of kissing your beautiful lips seemed completely out of his reach. Your tongues intertwined themselves, moving on their own at that point. Sometimes you parted from each other for a split second to move your heads or change the speed of the kiss, not breaking away from it again for what it felt like an eternity. You knew he would be there again tomorrow, the day after that, and hopefully all the following days after that too. Still, you kissed him as if it were the last chance you had to show how much you loved him, needed him, craved him.
You stopped for a moment, your eyes rolling back because of how good his kiss felt. Trying to ground yourself, you grabbed his left hand and made him touch your cheek with its back, tenderly smiling at him. He smiled back and you kissed his ring. “My one and only”, you said in a special soft tone you only ever used for Arthur. “My only and only”, he said it like a promise, reassuring you he would never leave you. He grabbed your face, kissing your lips to seal that promise. You climbed onto him, and he rolled you on your back. The pressure of his whole weight on top of you always made your body relax, feel cozy and warm. You didn’t know where that night would lead you, but you knew it would be the first one of the rest of your lives together.
My various anons: (Slaps inbox) this bad boy can hold so many fun and interesting questions and interactions. I love and cherish every ask you send.
Thank you for a week and a day of fun! I know I joined at a weird time with reforming the community and all but I’ve really enjoyed my time here. I’m a little shy so I’m working on knowing more people but I really am so happy with everyone I know now. I hope we can keep having really fun and memorable times together 💖
A dynamic I’ve been thinking about lately it Amity’s relationship with magic
Bc if I was in her position I would prolly hate doing magic
Her parents are elitist assholes bc of it- said parents control her life over it - not to mention that it separated her from her one true friend growing up: Willow
So what if Amity grew up resentful of magic that she still did everything as perfect as possible due to her parents but hating every second of it
So what if Amity went to the human world for a summer tried to live a life without magic and she realized that yes, she can be so happy without magic that she can experience so many wonderful things but that magic isn’t always bad
After dealing with these feelings Amity realizes that Magic can also be beautiful and make her happy as well
           The way I see it, I think Amity IS someone who legitimately enjoys learning about magic, and even the process of teaching others… She’s genuinely interested in magic in-part because of The Good Witch Azura and is inspired by her role model, and Amity clearly enjoys reading books to kids! Not only that, but…
           …It’s not exactly canon, but there was this one DisneyTVA post that showed a cardboard cut-out of a sad and lonely-looking Amity! The caption explained that she pitched an educational series to the Disney executives but was rejected!
           My read on Amity is that she DOES like to learn, and if allowed to self-actualize, would probably enjoy becoming a teacher actually! But because of the way she’s been taught, Amity has confused/associated learning with school as a system and an institution; That these two are synonymous, that if you like to learn, you ALSO like school and its environment! She sees the two as one and the same, a package that comes together, and I don’t think Amity realizes that you can still enjoy learning, while hating the school environment!
           For me, I think the pressure and standards that the Blight Parents have put onto Amity have ‘ruined’ her hobby and interest for her, as now she’s turned Magic and learning from a passion into yet another means of social advancement; Which means Amity can no longer unconditionally enjoy it and constantly has to measure her decisions by which one attains the highest grade for her, VS just having fun and being casual with her mistakes!
           I headcanon Amity as someone who initially started off as a Gifted Kid and did very well, enthusiastically enjoying Magic and having a natural talent and passion for it… Hence why the Blight Parents were so insistent on Amity not being ‘dragged down’ by Willow and her late-blooming, in addition to their own classist attitudes of course! But as Amity got older and poured all of her energy into doing well in school, eventually she got burnt out… She began falling behind on her past successes, as top scores came a lot less easily to her, and Amity’s passion for school began to dwindle.
           And, it’s another reason why Amity is so frustrated and critical of herself- Because in the past she used to ace school effortlessly and barely had to put in effort, why is it so hard and difficult for her now!? Why is she becoming so anxious over this, it used to be so easy, is there something wrongwith her? And now Amity is afraid of having built up her parents’ expectations, only to have secretly ‘lied’ and thus will let them down… In addition to ‘falling behind’ the development of characters like Willow and Luz!
           Of course, Amity would NEVER be against her friends being stronger than her, but she’d definitely internalize this into self-loathing as an example of how she needs to be better! Because she used to be at the top, so why is she falling behind? Was she really never meant for greatness, is this some cruel joke by the universe? And it’d be difficult for her to get back into learning magic, because now it’s just a constant reminder of her own inabilities and alleged failings…
           As you suggested, I can see Amity getting away from her parents’ abuse, and initially trying to unlearn it by rejecting the concept of school and learning in general… But as she goes cold-turkey from this, inevitably she’s still gonna be less happy; Happier than she was before, because no more abuse and more love from Luz and the others! But admittedly, Amity won’t feel completely fulfilled, she’ll find herself missing the idea of learning more about magic, and she’ll be confused, because wasn’t school an abusive and unhealthy environment for her???
           So in comes Eda. To me, Eda and Amity are both alike in that… I see them as characters who actually have a huge love and passion for learning, but the specific structure of school as an institution, as well as the pressure to succeed by the Coven System, ruined this hobby for them. And I think Eda is well-aware of the distinction between learning and education, VS school as an institution and a system meant to make kids orderly and pressure them to succeed… So I can easily see her explaining to Amity that there IS a divide between the two, that there is a difference!
          And just as Eda rediscovered how to love learning about magic on her own terms, by getting away from the oppressive school environment and doing things her own way, amidst her own recent lessons with Luz about Glyphs… I can see her helping Amity rediscover that same passion, either by having lessons with Lilith at the Owl House and/or attending school again, but this time without the pressure to succeed and be the best!
          I think it’d be beautiful, seeing Eda, Luz, and Lilith help Amity reclaim her love of learning and education that was taken away from her and ruined by the Blight Parents! Helping Amity get back to learning about things unconditionally, doing it on her own terms and converting it back into HER choice, rather than those of her parents…
          Amity can rediscover how to learn about magic simply for the sake of it, and not just to attain some other goal! Luz in particular legit loves magic and is intrigued by it, I could see Luz’s ramblings and passion helping Amity as the two begin to collaborate, as Amity’s negative memories with learning are replaced with the positive ones she has with Luz, Eda, and Lilith…! Luz’s enthusiasm for magic is likely bound to get contagious, and remind Amity of why got interested in the first place, amidst both girls enjoying The Good Witch Azura together and continuing to be inspired by it, and one another!
           If I had to guess? I think that in a scenario where Amity was allowed to figure out who she was and what she wanted to do… I think she’d be happy with being a teacher! But specifically, one fixated on her curriculum and lessons prioritizing the enjoyment of students, a teacher who cares about helping kids really get to know Magic and actually appreciate it up-close, with less regard for trying to get high grades!
          I think Amity would work on her lessons to encourage students to really think about and engage with what they’re learning, instead of just reading it out of a textbook or something… Less blind memorization and recitals, or filling people’s heads like an empty box; And more inspiring thought and creativity, like tending to a living flame! And I can see Amity working to change the school system to be more geared towards honest education, instead of simply indoctrinating and preparing kids for their roles in the Coven System!
          I like your idea a lot, @imamwolf, it makes sense with what this show has to say, and I know I’m literally just regurgitating what you already told me, but still! This show has a lot to say about the relationship between a student, education, and a teacher, and how a teacher fulfills their role!
Angel of Death - Simeon x F! Reader
You stood there admiring the field of flowers in heaven, in awe with the picturesque view. Simeon stood there behind you, his mask of calmness cracked a little more the longer he stood watching you. Tightly gripped behind him was the holy scythe, yet to him it was cursed. Once the directives were given, he is unable to stop the scythe from filling his head with instructions. He used to think of nothing about it, that it was merely God's will. However, now those words fill his heart with nothing but dread. ~ "Simeon, Heaven's Gardener. Please proceed to enter Father's chambers" He stepped into the chamber. It was a very spacious room with white marble walls supported by gold pillars; its high ceiling reflected the stars, constellations as well as the universe itself. The guards announced his presence to Him. Walking to the grand throne, he bowed to Father, his right hand upon his heart. "What do you need of me today?" His eyes were downcast as a sign of respect. Since here was no one else in the room, he knows what He had been called for. "Simeon, here is the list for today." A scroll containing the names of humans floated in front of Simeon. Yes, this list contained the names of those who will die before their proper time. Whether it due to sickness, accidents or even a victim of crime. He was assigned to deal with them all. Simeon doesn't know how they will die, but it does not matter anyway. Those who were in this list were chosen by Him to sit on His altar, a great honour. They are worthy due to their purity and/or kindness that they have shown throughout their short life. Not many angels actually know of his position, as the angel of death, not even Luke. But those who do know wouldn't dare cross with the dark-skinned angel. They keep themselves silent for death is something unknown to them and they fear it. However, because of Simeon's angelic behaviour even those who know of his special position brushed it away and thought nothing of it after a few years. Simeon unfurled the scroll and right before his eyes, letters burned themselves on the holy paper. Names, age, occupation; every detail he ever needed would be printed there. The holy markings beneath his black gloves shined bright, signifying the job has been accepted. A golden line forms in front of Simeon, showing him the way to the chosen human that He called to His side. Simeon gave Him a final bow before he setting off to collect those souls. Using his pure white wings, he flew down to the human realm, following the line. He disguised himself in the human world, going by many names in order to do his job. It wasn't the easiest job in the world. He had to observe their sufferings; be with them during their final moments yet doing nothing that might hinder his work. ~ Of all places, Simeon could have chose, he chose here, his beautiful flower garden. He truly had a green thumb for all the flowers he grew in the vast field were exuberant as if they have a life of their own. It was fitting for the title, Heaven's Gardener and much like cutting the stems of plants, he too cut the lives of people. It should be normal but why does his heart falters. Why is his throat dry? It's simple, he always does this. So why was it so hard to even unsheath the scythe? ~ This was his 100th soul for today, a newborn baby. The handsome angel stretched out his arms as the golden threads from his markings formed a gleaming golden scythe. He plunged the weapon into the heart of the baby and it began extracting it's soul. The physical body is unharmed of course for the scythe could only be used for souls. The tip of the scythe was to break the barrier of the body which encases the soul to allow it to be extracted by the gleaming weapon. The baby was already dying due to an infection there was nothing anyone could do. A bowed head and a silent prayer, that is all he could offer to the grieving parents. He felt his heart becoming weary. He was tired of seeing such heart breaking scenes. But a job is a job, and this particular one doesn't have a candidate to replace him. Who would want this job after all? He would give anything for someone to take this burden. But then again, he would feel sorry for the poor angel which took over. So, might as well, he carry this burden alone. He was resting on top of a high rise building when his D. D. D. rang. He thought it might be a call from Luke or even, Satan but he was pleasantly surprised to hear your voice. He placed the phone at his ear to hear you better. You chuckled. "Simeon.... this is a video call..." Your amused voice brightened up his day immediately. He really didn't now how to use these gadgets but he's learning. "So, what do I do?" He asked innocently. "You just look at the screen like you usually do. So you can see me." "Like this?" He looked at the screen to see the face of the light of his life staring back at him. His smile widened at the instant he saw you. You looked as elegant as ever. Both of you exchanged words and smiles and soon it was time for Simeon to continue with his work. "Don't forget our date tomorrow." "I wouldn't miss it for the world." The words in his head which were silent throughout the exchange, suddenly spoke up. "It's her." Simeon was taken aback. What ever could those voices mean? He checked his scroll again. Written in black letters, he saw your name there in the last column. He couldn't believe it. How could this happened? He tried to rub it with his thumb, thinking that it will smudge or be erased but it was still there. How could this be? He tried using his feathered pen to strike your name off but the paper seemed to absorb any liquid. In a last bid attempt, he tore the paper but it was futile. The paper regenerated and place itself upon his palms once more, as if nothing happened. The holy markings on his arms burned brightly as if he was branded by red hot iron, a warning. The words in his head blared loudly. He can't disobey the order. He had to kill you. ~ He had always wanted to bring you to his favourite place, but not like this. Why must it be this way? "Simeon?" She looked worriedly at him, her eyes reflected his. "Is everything alright?" His tears were on the edge of his eyelids. Why must she die? He knew that she would go someday but ... "Simeon... I know things can be hard but whatever it is, I will always be with you. Even if you wouldn't confide in me on the matter." She embraced him as if she wanted to drive away the sadness. She wanted to be there for him. However, that sweet gesture only caused his heart to sink further into the soil. How could he drive the scythe into her? ~ Simeon will never tell you how happy he was when you confessed to him. With bright red cheeks and tightly shut eyelids, you said those words, the words where he had heard humans speak a million times yet it was somehow endearing to know that those words were meant solely for him. The moonlight of Devildom had cast a soft glow upon your features. Oh how happy she had looked when he said yes. Her eyes gleamed, telling him of her happiness which could not be formed by words. He chuckled at her infectious enthusiasm. As their lips met for a short yet sweet kiss, he wished nothing more for her happiness and longevity. How could his past self forgive him for what he was about to do? ~ Despite being with the 7 brothers, she was not tainted. Her smile was infectious. Her laugh was genuine. Her flaws made her more endearing than she already is. He thought to himself "Of course, they had to take the most beautiful flower in the garden." The difference is only that this time the flower was you. The returned your warm hug. It would be only a few minutes more till his markings completely take over the function of his arms but until then he wanted to savour this last moment with you. "I'm sorry. I truly love you. Forgive... me," He kissed her forehead as his hands plunged the weapon deep into her soul. The extraction had begun. She had only but a few seconds left. Her face contorted to one of surprise and pain. Due to the extraction process, he could see into her heart in his mind as they were temporarily connected. He could see her pain, her shock. He expected her to hate him; resent him but what he saw next shook his core. As her eyes met him, her heart reflected forgiveness and appreciation along with the thousand memories they made together. He is killing her but yet those clear eyes showed no ill feeling towards her betrayer. How he wished that she would curse him; be mad at him. It was the right thing to feel. She shouldn't forgive him at all. Then, he understood that she had truly loved the gardener. She was so happy that her feelings were reciprocated by him. She cupped his dark skinned cheeks gently, making sure that he would hear her last words. "I knew my life was too good to last. Thank you for everything Simeon." Her lips met his for one final goodbye. "Thank you for being with me. I'm glad that fate brought us together." How can she say that when fate was separating them? How could she be so optimistic? He wanted to ask her but her body had turned cold. Her eyes closed ever so gently. The process was complete. The sounds in his head ceased. The holy weapon disintegrated, signalling the end of his job. There, in Heaven's Garden, the flower fell gently to the ground. There was a slight pain at the placed she was plucked but she knew that it would be temporary. She knew who had pluck her yet she still bloomed wholeheartedly for that person, the light of her life, for the last time. With a dying breath, her soft petals grazed the lips of the immortal gardener. Her beautiful earthly form was unscarred yet it was missing that shine which made her truly special. Her ethereal form or also known as her soul, would only glow. She can no longer talk to him nor touch him, much like a plastic flower. Everlasting but devoid of life, merely being there like an accessory. No longer the love of his life that he had given his heart to. Screaming apologies to the wind, the angel clutched the flower tightly to his heart. His most prized flower whom he had watched over so tenderly needed to be presented to Him. He wanted her so. The poor gardener of the Celestial Realm had to comply; no matter how much he loved his precious beloved flower. The flower which bloomed so breathtakingly, solely for him. He traced his thumb over the delicate petals one last time. His angelic tears wetting it. He wanted the flower to do something, say something, give any indication that might give him any hope. If she'd move, he'd throw everything away for her. However, the flower had been plucked and no matter how much water he supplied to the flower, she was already dead from the moment her life force was separated from its stem. The only thing Simeon could do was cradle the flower in his arms before he needed to present the flower. He was to place her on the altar of God where there she shall forever remain by His side, where she will bloom eternally. Every day the gardener would bring the most beautiful flowers to put at God's altar. Sometimes a daisy, sometimes a rose to accompany the flower. At times, he would even arranged them into beautiful bouquets, knowing that if she were still alive, she would love them. She loved anything that he did after all. He would even occasionally strike a conversation with the flower even if he knew in his heart she will never reply. He imagined her voice, her laughter, her warmth through memories but they were merely that. It can never be compared with her living and breathing by his side. He could only dream of her on the other side of the ethereal glass. If by chance, you managed to go up to God's altar, please do keep a lookout for the dark-skinned gardener and his flower. You'll notice his gaze softly follow the flower, endlessly yearning for her as she glows upon the celestial altar forever. ~ Extra:- "Father, why must she die?" The archangel Michael, questioned Him. "It is the law of nature. Every human will perish one day." Michael knew that He had deliberately done this. The archangel had caught a glimpse of her before. She was to live a long life. He only questioned because he wanted to hear the truth. He pitied Simeon who is now almost like an empty shell of the cheerful person he once was. Maybe He didn't want any more angel to follow the path of the 7 brothers but the way He carried it out was ruthless. Micheal could only look on at the two star-crossed lovers who were mercilessly parted by the hands of cruel fate. ~In a field full of flowers, which do you pick first? The most beautiful ones are the ones which will be picked first. ~
~ Yun ~
Hope you guys enjoy it.
Extra information. What I thought for God's Altar was like a glass wall, where only the most purest souls are inside. These souls won't be reborn anymore because they have said to reach the final stage of purity. The souls usually look like a glowing golden orb but sometimes they flicker and you can see the final form that they took before they managed to get in there. They are silent and unmoving. No one managed to go in nor has any soul managed to escape. Only He can place the soul in there. Once he puts them in, there is no way of taking them out. In any case, if the wall gets destroyed, all those souls will be destroyed as well. That is why not even the brothers took action.
lighthearted Tannith headcanons
(Wow, guess I had more to say about these two than I thought 😅)
Once upon a time Lilith thought she was gonna have a pretty standard life, probably marrying Roland and maybe having a kid or two eventually. Then a meteor of chaotic gay energy and absurd scientific inquiry came and blew a giant fucking hole in the middle of her life. Oops
Some of their friends were surprised; their close friends weren’t. Most don’t really get how it happened or what the heck Lilith sees in this dork ass scientist. Even Tannis herself is shocked to discover her feelings are reciprocated. Sometimes she still wonders if she’s somehow conjured a lesbian tulpa that takes the form of Lilith, or if she’s simply gone fully mad and is living entirely in her own reality by this point
But no, it’s real. In a world of traitors and deceivers, Lilith loves and appreciates Tannis’ (eventual) genuineness and honesty, even if it can be a bit brutal at times. And the way she lights up when talking about her special interests or observing something novel and intriguing is too endearing not to fall in love with.
-Tannis is one of those people who sets an alarm 7 days a week to get up at 5am. Lilith has never been seen before 10am.
-Tannis sleepwalks (I mean, this is canon according to BL1). So it’s not uncommon for Lilith to be woken in the night as her girlfriend gets up and confidently strolls out the door mumbling about Eridium or something. At first Lilith tries to get her, but eventually just gives up, because she always comes back and god damn it, it’s too late/early to go chasing after her ass.
-Eventually Lilith buys her a nightshirt that says “if sleepwalking, return to Lilith”
-On nights she doesn’t go missing, Tannis likes to wake Lilith up in the middle of the night with absurd theories and questions.
Tannis: Lilith, are you awake?
Lilith: Am now...
Tannis: Lilith, why does shampoo open at the top but conditioner opens at the bottom? I must know immediately.
Lilith: *rolls over, bleary-eyed, to see the clock displaying 2:54am*
-Tannis writes full paragraphs in text. Lilith is one of those people who only responds with “ok” “Lol”’, etc. (It’s nothing personal, Lil’s just all business and always has a million other things going on at once)
-That said, Lilith likes emojis. Tannis doesn’t quite grasp the concept of them until she realizes they’re essentially modern-day glyphs. From that moment on, she’s a devout emoji connesieur.
Tannis, shoving her ECHO in Lilith’s face: I received a fascinatingly incomprehensible string of Emojis from Moxxi earlier. I can’t wait to sit down and begin deciphering them!
the text: 💋🔥🍑💦👙😈
Lilith: Uh, yeah. You get on that, babe.
-It’s difficult for Lilith to get used to calling Tannis “Patty”. She has a mild dilemma because Is it weird to call your girlfriend exclusively by her last name?? Tannis is fine with either, so Lilith continues to call her Tannis and ignores how weird the whole things seems 🤷‍♀️
-Tannis can talk for hours upon hours about her hyperfixations. Lilith listens with a little smile, occasionally reaching out to play with a bit of Tannis’ hair or trace the lines of her tattoos with a fingertip.
-These are some of the longest “conversations” Tannis has ever had with anyone. She surprises even herself with her enthusiasm for such interaction, and near-total lack of vomiting.
-Lilith’s become so numbed to Tannis’ nutty life that literally nothing fazes her after a while. “Is it true Dr. Tannis has never eaten toast?” someone asks. “Yeah, probably,” Lilith replies
-Sometimes Lil thinks back to how this whole thing only started because she accepted a weird quest on a bounty board to go find some lady’s hidden ECHO logs
-Lilith gives Tannis flowers one day - no occasion, just something she wanted to do. Tannis just stares at them, uncertain as to why in the world Lilith just ripped a bunch of plants out of the ground and is now handing them to her. Thanking Lilith unsurely, she leans in and takes a bite of one of the leaves. “Mm, delicious,” she says, trying to spare Lilith’s feelings
-You know that thing where, after you’re together for a while, sometimes you start picking up the other person’s manner of speech? One day Lilith is talking to Mordecai when he smirks and says “You been reading the dictionary or something?”
Lilith: Mordecai called me a nerd earlier.
Brick: Yeah? So?
Lilith: I’m not a nerd. That’s...
Brick: *waiting with a knowing look*
Lilith, in a small voice: ...preposterous.
Brick: 🙃
-“10 Fun, Exciting, And Potentially Medically Significant Things You Discover While Using A Sex Toy With Your Girlfriend Who Can Control Machines With Her Mind”
-Lilith knows her life has spiraled out of control when she finds herself feeling slightly envious toward Tannis’ various inanimate ex-lovers. Tannis assures her any continued relationship with them is strictly professional. Lilith spends an entire night drinking at the bar, wondering how her life came the point that she’s jealous of a chair.
-At one point, Lilith stumbles across one of many of Tannis’ ECHO logs scattered madly about. She decides to be nosy and listen in. It’s mostly the same old stuff about her Eridian research progress, but - as is Tannis’ way, thrown casually into the middle of the log - Tannis states that her research has been slowed by the intrusion of romance into her life. “I find I’m not minding this as much as I probably should.” At the end of the log, she says, “My motivation has always been advancing the universe’s body of collective knowledge. But perhaps there’s room in a researcher’s life for two dreams.”
Lilith holds on to the log.
-Lilith is the kind of person who can and will eat anything, and has a ridiculously high tolerance for spicy foods. Tannis’ most daring food outing was the time she tried yogurt with fruit on the bottom (and absolutely hated it)
-Regardless, Tannis attempts cooking for the two of them (“Cooking is rather scientific, isn’t it? It’s all about mixing the proper ingredients and preparing them just the right way to achieve the desired result. How hard can it be?”). It ends up like this:
Tumblr media
-It’s tough for Lilith to let anyone in, especially after what happened with Roland. Tannis doesn’t ask difficult emotional questions and doesn’t take it personally when Lilith doesn’t want to talk feelings - Tannis actually prefers talking about things other than emotions, since that’s when her low empathy tends to hurt people the most.
Funny enough, that ability to avoid tough subjects is what allows Lilith to fall for her in the first place.
As time goes on, very, veeery slowly, they start to broach deeper topics with each other. It’s basically like pulling teeth on both sides on the conversation. But then, one day, without either of them consciously realizing when exactly it happened, Lilith finds she’s comfortable enough to let out a few tears in front of the other woman - and Tannis realizes that seeing Lilith hurting conjures a feeling in her gut like she’s never experienced before. She’s painfully unused to hugging, but when Tannis wraps her arms around Lilith and sees Lilith’s tears ease up, she suddenly understands why people engage in such acts.
-the first time Lilith says “I love you”, she immediately lunges for the tissues. But it’s too late. Thankfully they’ve both gotten pretty good at washing blood stains out of their clothes.
