I knew this girl who was born on Valentine’s Day and that was literally her introduction. I sat next to her on day one in my new school when I started grade ten because it was the only seat free. She was wearing cat ears and a tail. It’s important for you to understand that I was so deep into my punk phase at the time. I had bright orange hair at the time cut into the messiest shag on the planet. I was wearing my dad’s old army jacket that had patches for a bunch of punk bands most people have never heard of, painted on misfits skinny jeans and an SNFU tshirt. One of my patches said fuck you on it and I had drum sticks sticking out of my boot that clashed when I walked. I had spikes on anything that could be spiked including the other definition of spiked; coffee was more rum than coffee. My face was frozen in a permanent sneer as though I was about to accuse you in the nastiest way of being a poser. I’m not even making this up. I literally looked like a skinny fat version of Y/N from a Green Day fanfic.
This girl, with all the confidence in the fucking world looks at me and introduces herself: “hi! I’m [name]! I was born on Valentine’s Day!” And that level of confidence combined with unawareness compelled me so much that she became my best friend for a year. This was the 6th school I’d been to in my academic career at that point and I had never been so captivated yet perplexed by an introduction.

Just saw a TikTok complaining about ‘kitten’ as a pet name in fanfiction and while I do agree with/understand their discomfort on that one the comments were FULL of people mentioning all the other common pet names ?? Like honey babe baby sweetheart etc ?? Is your partner just supposed to call you by your name the whole time ????????

It’s just that Fingon’s like that stereotypical son who calls his mum and walks old ladies across the street, mows the lawn for his neighbours, brings home nice, pretty girls who want to be kindergarten teachers or something and is really passionate about some niche compassionate topic like children in poverty’s access to multiple sclerosis treatment and who everyone says is ‘such a nice boy’ but then he goes and dates the eldest kid of Mr. Stay Away From My Boys, Son, a flaming ginger who most people haven’t heard speak. And this is hilarious.

parents of disabled kids will be like “we know our kid is disabled but we just won’t tell them about it. we don’t want them to think they’re less valuable than other kids. we don’t want them to feel limited by their disability, we want them to know they’re capable of anything.”
meanwhile those kids are growing up thinking “why is everything so much harder for me than it is for everyone else? there’s no reason i shouldn’t be able to just do this. i guess i’m just a failed, broken person.”

"Toshiro’s love for Falin is fake and impure! He only started liking her after something about her intrigued him and hooked him in, and only then started wanting to know her better and finding out he loved everything else about her too!" Buddy I have something to tell you that you won’t like about how falling in love typically goes…

Fiona and Cake spoilers seriously
(Something I noticed abt Betty and Simons relationship)
I love Betty and Simon’s relationship, I think their back story is so cute and romantic and all that lovely stuff don’t get me wrong.
But there’s this under tone of Betty constantly giving things up for Simon and we don’t really talk about it a lot???
Like, Betty let Simon have his moment with the artifact and the pubic, she also doesn’t go to her trip in favor of going on an expedition with Simon. Then when she goes to leave again she stays for Simon.
Even Fiona is like “you went with her on the bus?” And Simon just looks all confused like “what? No, why would I do that?” Like- hello???
Then after that she gave up her entire life and mind to get Simon back to the point where she literally says “I don’t know who I am without him anymore.” And that just sucks! Since the beginning Betty has been the one giving up the most, her mind, her own possible career, and it’s a story of love of course and it’s very sweet but it’s also a story of sacrifice.
Their love wasn’t a perfect solution, it was already sort of imbalanced when it started and I lowkey love how we see those cracks even before they’re together.
Again, I love their relationship and I think it’s sweet. I just think we should talk about Betty’s side more, especially when she tells a story of what most women do in relationships, sacrifice.

One thing I love about mutant mayhem is that Leo has a crush on an April who’s not conventionally attractive. It almost feels like, because of the turtles’ isolated upbringing* he hasn’t been influenced by the popular western beauty ideals and just thinks this ordinary human is beautiful! And I think that’s really cool! Because she is!
*though they’ve clearly been exposed to celebrities and other pop culture so ?? idk lol
