#is exclusivity what separates romantic love from platonic love?
zabiume · 4 months

as an aroace person who assigns no exclusivity to romance i find it very funny when people say "character x would do that for all their friends so it's not special that he did it for y" and it's like. why not? why isn't it special? does doing it for one person reduce the significance of doing it for another?

one of the first things any aro wants to know on their journey of discovery is, “what the fuck is romantic love?” so we end up reading alloromantic accounts of romance, just so we can try to understand. and it’s often a failed journey, simply because people describe different experiences or describe sensations that don’t necessarily equate to romantic attraction. sure, people get a warm fuzzy feeling when they look at their spouse, but alloplatonics might describe their platonic feelings the same. and sure, people are struck with a desire to hold someone close and kiss them, but is that really exclusive to romance? after a while, it becomes clear. love filled with subjectivity.
the question then becomes, what do we do with subjectivity? it’s the first step in disassembling "love." when we choose to investigate further, we may come to realize the subjectivities are (too often) conveniently erased to suit popular notions of love—these stem from dominant depictions of love that don’t reflect reality or practice. put simply: people are told how their love is. yes, they're told how to love, but there is the very real assumption that the same feelings underlie every expression of romantic love, no matter who you are. it's in all the tv shows and books, it's parroted by well-meaning people who wish for your happiness, it's sliced ragged until it's a narrow, "correct" form. but no one loves that singular way, even if they warp their own experiences to fit the narrative. if "love" is pared down, concentrated into an impossibly specific expression, we get awful tunnel vision when we try to conceptualize it. the lived, subjective experiences of love elude us.
so as aromantics, we take the abandoned subjectivities and play around with them. we might attempt to separate components of "love" and poke them with a stick, dissect them, take parts out, Frankenstein them. we might heave "love" into a jumbo garbage bin forever or build our own thing from scratch. when people write of love as a law of nature, we tear it to fucking shreds. there are no rules, it's not a sacred thing, not immutable. we fuck around with "love" on purpose. we carve our own space in a society that insists on myopia.

📖FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS📖
Regarding asks, I typically avoid:
stacked questions (asks that have more than one question, so honestly, sending them one by one is better than writing a bunch in one go)
hyperspecific scenarios (while I enjoy answering these, some can get incredibly specific to the point where it doesn't even feel fun anymore)
questions that have already been answered (obviously)
To manage the blog, I usually queue up asks instead of posting them instantly, so it might take several weeks for me to respond. Please be patient! And while I appreciate the time and thought taken to writing me a message and the growing interest in the game, understand I'm still one person and will sometimes leave a message unanswered. Thank you. ❤️
Below is a compilation of questions I get a lot, so if you have a question feel free to check if it's already been answered! The list will update as needed:
🎮 F.A.Q ABOUT THE GAME 🎮
1. What is Mushroom Oasis❔ What is the rating❔
Mushroom Oasis is a visual novel made in Ren'Py that was initially released for the 2023 Yandere Game Jam. It's currently still in development as a solo project. I post updates almost exclusively on this tumblr so if you're interested in the game, you're in the right place. The rating is 16+. How did I come up with the concept?
2. How many days will the game have❔ When will it release❔
I initially planned it to have 4-5 days! But with some new ideas and routes I'm considering, it might extend to 5+ days. As for a release date, it's done when it's done. So please allow me the time to develop it at my pace <3
3. Will the game be translated to other languages❔
I'll be honest, I had no plans to. However, a few people have reached out volunteering to. I'll say for now I'm open to the idea, but I prefer people asking permission first. First and foremost, ask first.
4. Will the game be available for mobile❔
For now, a hard no. I have zero clue how to make it available for mobile. Maybe I'll consider it once the game is fully released, but it's only for PC and Mac for now, as those are the default builds in Ren'Py.
5. Is NSFW content allowed❔
Considering the main love interest is an adult, that's fine. However I'd appreciate proper filtering of NSFW content considering the game's age rating means there's more than a few minors in the fandom. NSFW questions aren't allowed on the blog.
Keep it where it's meant to be with proper tagging separate from the '#mushroom oasis vn' tag. Using '#mushroom oasis nsfw' should be enough? I hope.
NOTE: Now, I understand some people are really passionate about Mychael being asexual, but I can't bring myself to police people for mischaracterizing his asexuality, nor would I want to gatekeep him either.
He's a fictional character first and foremost, and while representation is important!!!/gen /srs I don't want to bring attention to any such content in case it brings unwanted harrassment on that creator for posting such content.
Please don't do that. Let people make what they wanna make. It's unfortunate, but fandom will be fandom.
6. Will there be other love interests? Will it have multiple endings❔
Due to project scope, the only romance-able character for MO is Mychael himself. The game will have multiple endings however, ranging from romantic ending, platonic ending to creepy/bad endings (because, y'know, yandere).
7. Will there be official merch?
As a college student and soon-to-be fresh graduate, the income would be nice haha. As I keep working on the game (and once I'm done with college in March) I'll definitely look into making them someday!
🍄 F.A.Q ABOUT MYCHAEL🍄
1. What are his pronouns and sexuality and age❔
He identifies as male, uses he/him pronouns and is a panromantic asexual. He's older than you think. ::-)
2. What is his height❔
He's 6'2. He used to be 5'8.
3. When is his birthday❔
Initially it was 15th February! Simply because I happened to start designing him that day, hence his 'creation'.
I might pick another date though; for now, his birthday is undecided.
4. Favorite food and drink❔
He loves fried mushrooms and tomato juice! He hates spicy food though, as the smell and taste makes him physically ill.
5. Do you have a voice claim for him❔
Initially it was Jonathan Groff, specifically his role as Kristoff in Frozen. But nowadays I'm not sure. Feel free to give suggestions! Do note I imagine him sounding as an older male in his late 20s.
6. What is Mychael's love language❔
I explain it in-depth here!
TL;DR: He likes giving gifts, and likes receiving words of affirmation.
7. How is Mychael's affection towards MC (blog-centric only)❔
So for context, as I manage the blog sometimes Mychael makes an appearance in answered asks. His answers can change depending on when you ask at the current state of the demo:
Day 1:
Tumblr media
Day 2:
Tumblr media
It's just something for fun as I manage the blog when answering asks. (Though don't expect a solid implementation of this anytime soon, as I'm busy with college until March 2024. Until then!)

Okay! So! This post is factually inaccurate. I'd been told the creator of the sunset aroace flag was a nazi, turns out that's a baseless accusation and comes from another untrue rumor. So. I won't delete this post, because it was a fun exercise to create a flag, but take every claim about the morality of the og artist with, like, negative one grain of salt.
I've heard about the whole controversy regarding the aroace flag, and I do get the sentiment- we shouldn't be using a flag created by a nazi. However, it's so widespread and recognizable a flag that it's hard to change it without backlash. Makes sense, if people are used to a certain flag to mean their identity, they'll probably resist changing the flag- it may make it feel like you're replacing their identity.
Therefore, I propose we do indeed change the flag, but make it highly reminiscent of the widespread flag, so the transition between the two is easier and less significant. Yes, it's still using a similar design to a nazi's, but it might be the best we can do- and who says we can't reclaim a symbol?
I've made my own take on the flag. I'm not saying this is the best one, just the best I could do.
Tumblr media
As with any flag, the stripes have meaning.
The orange represents love, in a platonic/familial/aesthetic way, all the aspects of love- excluding romantic and sexual. This is why it's not red, the main color for love, because it can be different for us than it is for others. It's also reminiscent of a sunrise, and due to that it can represent the beauty inherent in love. It's meant to symbolize how though aroace people may not experience romantic and sexual love, but we sure as heck still feel love.
The tan represents unity, not only between those who are aroace, but with the queer community as a whole. Though we are not allo, we are still queer, and we are part of the whole.
The white is, actually, not in fact white- it's a very light warm grey. This is to represent the spectrum of identities under the term aroace. The white isn't actually white, but that's okay, it makes the flag more cohesive. The aroace term might not quite align with your identity, but that's fine. Words are what you make them. Colors don't always fit in rigid boxes, and neither do people.
These are going to be out of order, just because it makes more sense to read it this way. I would do it in this order on the flag, but I both want it to look like the widespread one and want it to look like a gradient.
The darker turquoise represents the joining of aromanticity and asexuality- residing between the two colors in the color wheel. It's not a direct mixture between the shades, because when the two identities combine, they form a whole new identity, while still reflecting the original. Also, it's more vibrant.
The sky blue represents the variety ever-present within the identity. It represents the aroacespec people. It's lighter than the color between aro's green and ace's purple, because attraction can vary. Demi and auto and flux people exist, and they're still in the flag- because they're still part of our community.
This flag is very similar to the more common aroace flag, but that's not really a great flag to use. None of the colors are the exact same, intentionally. It's unique enough to be separate, rather than just a redesign of the same flag, but it's still recognizable as aroace. Here's a comparison:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In my opinion, at least, it looks better. The top is a more cohesive gradient rather than a yellow coming from nowhere, and the bottom band isn't as contrasting. The duller band in the middle just makes it look nicer in general imo, but it's mainly motivated by the meaning.
This isn't perfect! This flag is just my little experiment, since I always liked how the flag looks like a sunset, yet didn't want to use a flag designed by a nazi. Feel free to use this flag anywhere you'd like, as long as it's, like, a good use. Like, no oppression or exclusion. Keep the original meanings in mind. We are all a community.
Finally, a call to action: try and use this flag rather than the original! Or, if you don't like this flag that much, make your own! Try to come up with your own meanings, it's harder than you think. This is our flag, ‍‌ and we choose what we use and what we value. Or just inform people on the history of the flag, I personally had no idea it was issue-laden until recently. Either way, let's go out there and love.

SHIPPING INFO:// Answer the following for your muse(s) so people know how shipping works on your blog
REPOST. DON'T REBLOG
What’s your OTP for your Muse(s)?:
I don't like "One ✨ True ✨ Pairing" when it comes to rp. This isn't Highlander. I do love and enjoy all the connections I've made with writing.
What are you willing to RP when it comes to shipping?:
Romantic, Sensual, Friendship, Familial, Platonic, Enemies.
It depends on the muses, what the other mun is looking for, and the chemistry which develops over time. Soulmates and deep romance are welcome as well as the complicated toxic. Regret flavored co-parenting 'what are you in my life?' If "it" happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it's all good too.
If a muse is a love interest from canon (listen, there's like 5 of them plus Frenchie in the entire history), I'm happy to pre-establish, it just takes a talk to make sure we're on the same page. For Layla, I'm exclusive with @lalamoon.
How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?:
Age gaps are fine. The System is going to be 40 per my calendar this year but I sort of go between mid-30s to early 40s in my head. If a muse over a decade younger than the System, I'll probably be more selective than when they're closer in age.
Are you selective when shipping?:
I like shipping. We gotta talk about it first.
The System has a lot of baggage (what character doesn't). They're not everyone's type. Marc will never stop being Moon Kn.ight. He can be convinced to take breaks but whenever he promises he'll stop, he always gets back to work. He's got terrible coping mechanisms and struggles which make him difficult to be in a relationship with. Which, if you want to explore that up and down, that's cool.
You don't have to ship someone with the entire System. Usually, if someone only wants Marc, Steven and Jake aren't really interested in that person anyway. And there's still interesting dynamics one can write with Steven and Jake without making it romantic or sensual.
Though they don't come up often (thus far), Soldier only really has heart eyes for Reese and Badr is (headcanoned) aroace.
How far do steamy moments have to go before they’re considered NSFW?:
When clothes start coming off. I fade to black or bump it to Disco (if we're close in that way). This is not out of any sense of shame. I like my emails job.
Who are other muses you ship your muse with?:
@brooklynislandgirl @cordeliabarton @echoestm @gottahunt @kylo-wrecked @lalamoon @lt-ghxst @prettytm @positivelybeastly @voicestm @wardogsong @writteninscarlet
"It was in the past but we're raising a child" @marlenexalraune and @midnightxmission
Feeling out something @biitchcakes and @webxfshame
Familial @tjhmnd
Rip everyone's notifications o7
Does one have to ask to ship with you?:
I mean, yes.
How often do you like to ship?:
???
Are you multiship?:
Yes. Everyone has their own separate verse and can also cross into AUs. That being said, in main 616 and 'modern/no superheroes' verses, the history between the system and Marlene does impact the present time.
Are you ship obsessed or ship more-or-less?:
I like various flavors of writing. It's never Just About the Ship.
What is your favorite ship in your current fandom?:
Marla / Moon Kn.ight System/Layla
Finally, how does one ship with you?:
Talking, writing, talking….

I’ve been thinking about tommy and Oliver’s friendship a LOT lately (probably because I just posted an edit to Instagram about Tommy’s death and started writing a half baked thought in my drafts.) and I was wondering if you had any headcanons about their friendship?
sorry this took a while, i was in horror mode! ik i have proudly cultivated arrowverse freaks but if anyone wants to send me horror asks too,,,,,,, yknow 👀
OKAY PLATONIC TOLIVER TIME !!
Tumblr media
i think i've said in the past that i didn't really fuck w toliver but i meant it as an exclusively romantic ship, they r so important as a brotp
oliver vowed to never kill again after tommy died, that's canon. but we know he had to break that rule. so, the first time oliver took another life after he couldn't save tommy's? he practically drowned himself in what used to be tommy's favorite wine.
ik tommy told oliver that he was better off not knowing what twilight is. but they totally watched the movies sometime after that.
i think it would be sweet if they measured each other's heights as they grew up in ink on the wall, but did everything they could to hide that part of the wall from moira and robert so it wouldn't be cleaned off, so they just have these sloppy little notes in sharpie hidden behind a painting in the queen house. their boyhood friendship is forever ingrained within oliver's house and no one will ever know. it's a secret they took to the grave
i just love how casually affectionate they are. we know oliver has issues with touch, but he always hugs tommy. they just grew up so close that i don't think touching tommy would even really register as something oliver could be averse to. it just feels like the most normal, natural thing, he's already so conditioned to it
listen okay listen. i don't ship them romo style but i do not see oliver as straight and i do know that if ollie was struggling with his sexuality and getting bicurious with it as a young adult pre-gambit, tommy is the only guy he would trust enough to do anything with
Tumblr media
we KNOWW that tommy wanted a pup as a wee boy and i think oliver would've been one second away from buying it for him at all times but the queens wouldn't allow it bc of how often tommy was over, the dog would've just became their responsibility instead of that of the merlyns
oliver has had to watch a tommy die three different times. earth-1, earth-x and earth-2. not even counting hallucination tommy. do you think about that? i think about that.
AND THEN- AND THEN OLLIE GETS W A PROUD JEWISH GIRL. AND THE NUMBER 3 IS DOING SOME SHIT IN JUDAISM;
Tumblr media
"3 - the unity between two extremes" i cant even like communicate what the fuck that means to me but LISTEN OKAY LISTEN. jewish people are instructed to ask for forgiveness thrice; even if they're not forgiven, the one in the wrongdoing is believed to be atoned. DO YOU GET IT. MAYBE ISAIAH 6:1-6:3 WILL HELP
"In the year that king Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne high and lifted up, and His train filled the temple. Above Him stood the seraphim; each one had six wings: with twain he covered his face and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one called unto another, and said: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory." the angels said holy three times and the word twain is a term for two, like a duo, and tommy's rotting into the ground six feet under and oliver watched his oldest friend die three separate times. DO YOU UNDERSTAND MY VISIONS.
tommy and oliver might be christmas enjoyers but that doesn't mean i can't get them w jewish imagery and symbolism okay, felicity's jewish and a talker so i think it's plausible she would've laid this all out for ollie too
during oliver's lost years, do you think tommy ever looked out at the beaches of their home port city and couldn't help but wonder if his best friend was truly down there. do you think he smelled sea salt and thought of running through the queen halls with oliver behind him. that he saw oliver's blue eyes in sea shells along the sand, that he saw the sand itself and thought of oliver's hair. do you think he ever reached into the coldness of the water and it felt almost like home bc those waters and that coldness was supposed to be oliver's home now. sniffles
THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY FOR NOW I HOPE THIS IS DECENTLY COHERENT ❤️❤️❤️

Fearne and Chetney are weirdos and besties and I love them Do Not Separate. They should do something about whatever it is they’ve got going on, but I don’t see them becoming romantic? Like, this game of chicken is going to end with the fade to black and then it‘ll just start again! Which is exactly what I want! I love their weird, hornt up flirting, gimme more! They are neither romantic nor exclusive, but they are a Thing and that’s just a fact. They will go after the same woman and not stop teasing and flirting with each other the whole time. Iconic.
I also ship Fearne and Ashton! I ship it a lot, but not romantically. I’ve mentioned before that I think I might headcanon pretty much all of the bell’s hells as on the aromantic spectrum, but my headcanon of aromantic Ashton was the first and most concrete. Like you can’t just say, “Sometimes it is very easy to misconstrue friendship for love, lust for love, it's very amorphous. I have a hard time defining it to begin with, and there's only really a couple situations where it might've even applied” and not have me go “👀 🖤🤍💚???”
Defining the nature of how I imagine their relationship is weird. Like if I were to label it as a QPR, the platonic bit is much more fuzzy compared to say, Orym and Fearne, who are a Pair, but a strictly platonic one. But their relationship would also be less physical than Fearne/Chetney, for example. Partly because of Ashton’s general touch-aversion, but also partly by choice, I would think.
What’s most compelling about them to me is the way Fearne—whose upbringing in the Feywild has given her a love of things that are weird and dark and off-putting—looks at Ashton—who on some level considers themself fundamentally broken/damaged and who has a deeply cynical view of people and the world—as someone lovely and beautiful and interesting, and Ashton delights in Fearne’s weirdness. The aspects of themselves that often frighten others do not scare each other.
Fearne is not beholden to the attitude of “well this is just how things are” because, well, that’s not true when you live in the Feywild for 100+ years. On the other side of this coin, you have Ashton who actively rejects this attitude because he has seen firsthand how the status quo doesn’t serve anyone except for those in power and how it especially harms those who do not have any. So there is this sort of unprecedented tenderness that Fearne can give to Ashton because she just cares about them, and that’s kind of the beginning and the end of it, and there is a freedom from rules and expectations that Ashton can give to Fearne. They’re walking along these neighboring philosophical roads, where Fearne’s like “lol rules? what are those?” and Ashton’s like “fuck the rules because the rules fucked me.” And this is a lot of deep thinking about who they are as people without mentioning that the way they even became friends was a friendly game of stealing from each other! Fascinating chaos duo 10/10

Note
so, here are the next funny statements of exclusionists..))0)
problem 2, 3, 4: lesbophobia, mspecphobia, homophobia historical note: until the 1970s, the word “lesbian” had the same meaning as the current word “sapphic” - the attraction of any non-men to any non-men. without any restrictions. Over time, for political reasons, bisexuality began to be separated from lesbianism. going “back” would, in fact, do great harm to bisexual people and lesbians, whose identities are already quite established.
Moreover, lesbians often experience forced heterosexuality, a phenomenon where a lesbian thinks she is attracted to men when in fact she is not. “mspec lesbianism” is an erasure of the compget experience and the political history of queerness and lesbianism that these labels have lived through.
It is also important to note that lesbianism since the 1970s does not and will never include men for reasons that lesbianism and feminism are historically strongly intertwined. at the time when the term "lesbian" took on its current meaning, it was a political act of refusing male approval. the same is true for mspec identities - they were not separated from the general blurred “lesbian” and “gay” so that the unique experience of mspec people would be erased
/ quote
Okay that's just straight up radfem/TERF shit.
1. "Lesbian" is an orientation, not a fucking political stance. Irreparable harm has been done to the lesbian community when the love of women was decentralized in favor of hating men and refusing men. Even me, a person who isn't attracted to men romantically or sexually, it is not about hating guys! It's about loving girls and loving enbies! My orientation should not be made all about men, even if the way they do it is by centralizing how much I don't like them. My lack of attraction to guys does matter to me as well and I use labels like nomaromantic, demetic, nominromantic, etc. to describe that aspect but being a lesbian is about my love and not the lack of it
Also I fucking love men platonically. I have great male friends, trans and cis. I don't think I could in good faith make my identity about how much I hate men and rejecting them as a political stance when some of the guys in my life are wonderful people.
2. We are not going back. Lesbian separatism, despite all its flaws, would be difficult to reverse, and not worth it. Most mspecs don't identify with lesbian or gay. All we want now is for people to recognize that these are historical identities, that they shouldn't have been erased, and that people who are comfortable using lesbian or gay in a non-exclusive way have a right to.
3. No, mspec lesbians don't erase comphet. Someone who feels comphet enough could label as such because of their comphet, and that would be perfectly valid - using mspec to acknowledge that they are attracted to men and women, and using lesbian to acknowledge that the attraction to men is not quite "real" - but also, mspec lesbians who are genuinely attracted to men have nothing to do with comphet! I have experienced it before and it's... It's not real attraction. It's your brain tricking you into thinking you like someone of the opposite gender because that's what you're "supposed" to do. Mspec lesbians who like dudes? They're probably not experiencing comphet, they actually like men genuinely.
4. You don't get to exclude men from the most well known women-loving-women label when some men are women. Multigender and genderfluid people will always exist.

My (kinda disjointed) thoughts on some Skylanders ships (part 1)
Trying something new today! It's gonna be hard to write an opinion on Skylander ships, considering the fact that most of them are crackships and half the characters have really basic personalities, but I'll try my best. I'm starting with the dragon Skylanders, but I'll eventually cover other Skylander pairings in the future.
Spyro x Cynder: 9/10. Pretty basic, all things considered. It's the ship people choose because they were hardcore Legend of Spyro fans and shipped Spynder back then. I do think they have a good dynamic; Cynder's evil past is ripe with angst and hurt/comfort potential, and Spyro being the one to save her naturally makes him a perfect candidate to provide the "comfort" part. At the same time though, I understand the appeal of having them remain platonic since as of 2023, Skylanders is the only Spyro media to have both appear without any hint of romance between them.
Spyro x Sunburn: 6/10. It's mostly an ironic ship I thought of as a joke during the early days back when I only did incorrect quotes exclusively about the dragon Skylanders. I don't think Sunburn and Spyro would really have a whole lot of interesting interactions.
Spyro x Whirlwind: 1/10. I don't see the appeal. To me, they're just friends or coworkers. Nothing more than that. The only reason anyone ships this is that they hate Cynder or Spynder, but they also don't want to ship Spyro with the humanoid girls or Sonic Boom because "interspecies romance yucky"
Whirlwind x Cynder: 9/10. The opposite of Spywind. These two have a great dynamic, Whirlwind being ostracized for her mixed heritage, while Cynder's distrusted for her past as a servant of Malefor. The two could find a lot of comfort in each other due to their shared experiences. The only reason it's not a complete 10/10 is because I prefer pairing the two with other characters.
Whirlwind x Sunburn: 8/10. It's aight. I guess the way their backstories contrast is interesting, Whirlwind used to be hated for being a dragon hybrid while Sunburn was coveted for the same reason.
Whirlwind x Camo: 7/10. No strong opinions.
Sunburn x Camo: 8/10. I can see why it has appeal. Two pranksters goofin' off together is always nice.
Whirlwind x Sunburn x Camo: 9/10. Whirlwind and her two supportive bfs, who are also dating each other. I think overall I prefer polyshipping these three over their separate ships, but the reasons why are based entirely on fanon I made up regarding the three.
Whirlwind x Zap: 5/10 ...Eh? Nothing wrong with it, but I don't really see the appeal either. It's better than Spywind because the entire basis for the ship isn't just "a hetero dragon ship for Spyro that isn't Cynder"
Side note: Damn, Whirlwind has a lot of ships. Why is that?
Drobot x Camo: 8/10. I think it's really funny. Drobot the serious, intelligent, and logical-minded, while Camo is a jokester who makes fruit explode for shits and giggles. The contrast between serious and silly always makes for a fun dynamic, and I think if the two ever got meaningful interactions, Camo would be the guy who'd get Drobot to loosen up.
Bash x Flashwing: 8/10. This pairing actually has ground to stand on since it's one of the only ships that have actual potential for being canon. Bash falling in love with Flashwing is literally half of her backstory, and it's a standout trait for Bash and Skylanders in general. It's rare for Skylanders characters to actually have romantic feelings for anyone, much less each other, which is what makes this ship so appealing, it's potential for exploring this idea. Sadly, canon has not seen that potential. There's been no actual exploration of the pairing in Skylanders media, not even the comics or Skylanders Academy, which literally exist to flesh out the goddamn Skylanders. The closest we get is apparently from a book called "Skylanders Universe: The Complete Collection, page 39" which states Flashwing canonically likes Bash back, though she won't admit it out loud (don't quote me on this, I got it from the wiki). That's it. That's all we get. If the pairing actually got explored in official Skylanders material, then it'd be a 9 or a 10.

I discovered today that I am aromantic. This isn't completely new I've known for a while. I previously identified with aromanticism because I felt I experienced love differently from others. It wasn't any more than that.
But today, in a culmination of events, I really properly realised the truth of my aromanticism. I realised that I will likely never be in love, and that I will never be loved in any way I am able to reciprocate. I will never be able to give or receive love to the full extent and depth of how it feels natural to me.
I'm devastated. I can't explain exactly the sort of dumb struck shock I feel. I don't know what to do with myself. I'm not even upset that I'll never have a partner, or a relationship - honestly that doesn't bother me. It's more that I know I am capable of love. I know because I feel it profoundly and with exceptional depth towards my friends. But one by one these friends bring home romantic partners and I am forced to confront that our love did not mean the same to them as it did to me. That most people separate the romantic and platonic, and they will never feel the same fulfillment from my love that I do from theirs. I'm devastated because I will never share a house with all of my closest friends and adopt cats and share beds and grow old under the same roof. I'm devastated because I want to be loved very very desperately, but I do not want to kiss or have sex or exclusively own a partner. I want my friends. I want somehow to be enough for them.
There is so much more I want to say about how this all feels, but I'm so tired and I feel very directionless. I can hear my friend upstairs with his partner and they are making him laugh in a way only I could before. I feel so stupid. So, so stupid, and utterly devastated.

F - Friend - What kind of friend are they? How do they judge potential friends? Where do they draw the line between platonic and romantic relationships? How far would they go for a friend? How do they handle conflict in relationships?
G - Growing - How have they changed over time? How has their self-image changed? Are they more or less of a risk-taker? Has their approach to romance changed?
H - Hero - What makes someone a hero in their eyes? Who is their biggest hero in life? Why? Do they consider themselves to be heroic?
for kitali!
Friend- Kitali is extremely loyal and protective as a friend. There's a very high barrier to entry but once she's judged you worth her time you're stuck with her. Very similar to befriending a stray cat. Requirements for friendship include but are not limited to; similar sense of humour, following through with one's actions on words spoken, a semblance of a moral code or at least consistency in behaviour, separating law from justice, and Vibes. I think Vibes is the most important one out of that list, tbh.
Kitali doesn't draw a hard line between platonic and romantic relationships all that much. She's extremely casual about sex and does not require romance attached to it. To her, friendship and relationship have just as much weight of commitment behind them. Estinien becoming her partner from being her closest friend was an entirely lateral move. I think what defines "romantic relationship" the most is the exclusivity. And even then that has it's flexibility. She and Aymeric have been calling each other husband and wife for over 3 years now, but it wasn't even them who started it, it was the assumptions (and sometimes scorn) from other Ishgardians that they just didn't refute. The labels would have been completely unnecessary for her to define her relationship with him.
How far she will go depends on how close she deems the relationship to be. Are they a fair weather friend? Have they fought and bled together? Do they owe her debts? Does she owe them debts? There are many factors at play here. For the vast majority, she'll throw down in a fight with them or repair their gear afterwards or will make them a hot meal.
Conflict in relationships is usually instigated by her sooooo not well? She is very stubborn and spiky and taciturn and prejudiced in a myriad of ways and she tends to butt heads a lot with most people. There's a reason she is not the face of the group, just the blade.
With Aymeric specifically, because he is one of her Most Important people, conflict between them is based on politics (surprise surprise) with her being on the side of a more vigilantism approach where he is by the bureaucratic process even if they agree on the root of the problem. She also tends to get a little overly defensive of him and gets aggressive about him being overworked, which he will waive off with a "someone has to do it". it was much much worse when they first got together because basically everything about Ishgard was still in upheaval and Aymeric practically had to hold the Houses' hands, but they've been getting better at finding a compromise faster and faster.
Grow- Well, she started out kinda short, and then grew to be about medium height, and now she's about this tall.....XD
The most notable change is Kitali learning to let people into her heart again. She's stayed jaded and cynical for most of her life and it's well earned, and I don't think that that's a bad thing that needs to be "fixed" or for her to "grow out of". Her self-image is sort of linked to that, in that she now has irrefutable proof that she is worth being around and she's worth loving. She didn't have that for a really long time.
Her approach to romance definitely changed. She didn't ever think that settling down and having a home and someone to build a life with was ever in the cards for her and so she never pursued it. And she was very bitterly envious of people who did have that. Good luck getting her to admit that, though. It started in a very slow creep with her and Haurchefant's fwb turned "when the war is over, we'll properly court one another" when she had been in Ishgard longer than she had been with the Scions. And she did have a very brief window of thinking that things would turn out maybe not completely awful between getting back from the Aery and the Vault. And that fledgling hope got buried very deeply once again because she believes that everything good that happens to her will one day leave. It has taken a lot of work on Aymeric's part to help her unlearn that. A lot.
Hero- well her number 1 hero is always gonna be her dad. He taught her how to fight with a lance, he showered her in as much affection as he could at every turn, he kept her safe as well as he could. And he ultimately died a hero's death, giving his wife and child time to escape with their lives.
Honestly, she dislikes assigning "hero" as a title to people because she hates having it assigned to herself. "Hero" comes with expectations and obligations and at this point in her life she wants nothing to do with heroism. The general populace's perception of her as the Warrior of Light is so far removed from who she is as an actual person. And that depersonalisation really hit its peak during ShB, and so now she is extra tetchy about people putting her up on a pedestal. She does not consider herself a hero, she's a mercenary who has an exceptionally high paygrade and who got roped into shit she didn't ask for against her will. If you call her a hero to her face she'll just snarl at you. (Little kids get a pass though, she's not a complete asshole.)
Thank you so much for the asks @bnuuywol!

Introduction and Rules
Hello there ladies, gentlemen, and non-binary guest! Are you all tired of searching Yandere content for a certain fandom you love and finding little to nothing on it? Well, I don't think I can help with every single fandom with this issue sadly, but hey, at the very least I want to contribute something to the fandoms I like
So I'll be opening requests for HC (Headcanons), drabbles, and scenarios (Or you can just share me ideas you have and I'll give my opinion on them). Now onto the rules!
Rules
General stuff:
This blog is exclusively for Yandere content
If you're younger that 18, please do not interact with this blog, as I will write things not suitable for children (Besides this is a Yandere blog what are you doing here?)
You're allowed to ask me to write for other fandoms aside from the ones I'll list initially, but please keep in my that I might reject your request if I either don't know anything or don't feel confident enough to write about it. So don't take it personally plz!
This is Yandere x Reader, not the other way around, so I won't take any requests with a Yandere Reader
Character limit per request is 6 for head canons, 3 for drabbles, and one if scenario (however, if it's a team up or rivalry I'm willing to make more than 1)
Green Tea (SFW):
Both Platonic and Romantic requests are allowed
(I don't have much to say here, it's SFW stuff)
Sake (NSFW):
When writing requests, please specify that you want it to be NSFW (So I can better separate SFW rq from NSFW rq and don't tone it down by accident)
Things I won't write: pedophilia, incest, and suicide rq (Suicide attempt is allowed tho)
I might reject your request if I feel like it doesn't fit the character you want it for (I doubt this will happen much tho) New rules might be added in the future
Current List of Fandoms I'll write for:
Fire Emblem Sonic the Hedgehog Arknights Yu-Gi-Oh (From DM to Vrains only)
Hope you all enjoy!
PD: U guys can call me Myoji-san for short

so! jezebel and aspd. and comorbid autism. and her view of others and bonds.
jezebel does not attach to others like a healthy person does. to preface this, the models for her attachment in her childhood were
her father parading her as a weapon and personal feat of his research
being able to take care of a few stray cats in malifais
two brief crushes within the convent, wherein healthy affection was punished and the girls sought alternative ways to express affection for one another without being caught, such as blood promises and calculated stabbings
and then, in her later adolescence, as she's trying to heal from her damaged sense of attachment: her brother dies horribly and she enters a pseud-"relationship" with elijah, an obsessive assassin determined to make her her "true self" again by intentionally stalling ( and occasionally destroying ) her progress im therapy.
thus, her concept of attachment and ability to attach is not exactly secure. truly, it was a combination of the later two major experiences that left a crack in her psyche that makes her struggle with attachment.
when jezebel "attaches" to someone, typically, it is not uncommon for her to view them almost in the vein of being a possession. this is not to say she dehumanizes or mistreats them. in fact, she goes to great lengths to ensure they do not come to know what goes on in her mind, for fear it will ruin the relationship she's formed with them. however, if one plays close attention, this will show in other ways.
jezebel enjoys playing the role of a provider with people she has come to view this way. she will buy them gifts, necessities, everything in between. she will invent for them. dote on them. however, to a particularly perceptive sort, it will become apparent that there is a certain level of distance between themselves and her. she is never vulnerable with them. she will typically keep them separate from her other personal affairs and especially her professional life. there's simply a lack of emotional intimacy from her in most instances.
and if a particular observant lover/friend/etc notices and makes a complaint? she'll fake it. she'll get misty eyed about things that don't really bother her. she doesn't like lying, she won't lie - she'll simply talk about things she's been through that should've been more traumatic, but she's already handled, such as her father and childhood.
additionally, when jezebel does begin to attach to someone in a more "normal" fashion, when she realizes she wants to tell them about herself and be genuine, when she wants to preserve them more as someone she loves rather than something she takes care of - she gets angry. at herself. disappointed that she's let herself fall for this again. it's a weakness that steals control of her because the truth is, being loved by her is controlling her. she went insane when artemiy died. elijah was the only one that could ever get under her skin.
does jezebel not feel love the way most people do? she doesn't.
does this mean she isn't, in her own way, genuine about her connections? no. it doesn't. she wouldn't act this way if she didn't mean it. she is not trying to manipulate or hurt anyone she engages in these relationships with. it is simply how she is.
other notes:
jezebel will typically not put a label on a relationship unless prompted to. until that point, she will not assume exclusivity and is liable to continue sleeping around to her pleasure. please understand that she does not view this as a form of infidelity and would never cheat on a partner once exclusivity is established.
despite this, she is a possessive person/partner and that can even extend to platonic relationships. she wants to be the number one, the favorite to others. this also plays into why she likes to play a provider role in relationships of all sorts.
she often struggles to separate romantic and platonic feelings. platonic intimacy is very real for her.

Defining Yuri
Introduction
While manga, whether we talk about shonen, shoujo or seinen, often displays elements that are distinct from Western literature, as a whole it is easily recognizable. You can use the same tools you analyze East of Eden with to look at Lone Wolf and Cub. If you can parse A Midsummer Night’s Dream then Urusei Yatsura should be just as comprehensible to you.
Yuri however, becomes interesting and is distinct enough that I think it is worth talking about what is intrinsic to it. This is very much an evolving work in my mind and I welcome feedback as it evolves. For this point I’ve considered some of my recent reads in Yuri and re-read volume 1 of Eclair.  I intend to expand this over time so consider this a work in progress.
For future reference this is dated March 11th, 2023.
Common Yuri Themes
Affections
One theme drives everything else in Yuri - love.  This includes five types of love that serve as sub themes:
Sexual Love - While love and sex are often separated the emotions connected with physical attraction should not be understated and are important here.  A subcategory of this is aesthetic attraction, a concept based on attraction that has a physical component but may not elevate to full sexual attraction.  Skinships are a related concept.
Romantic Love - Most audiences are very familiar with this concept.
Devotion or Devoted Love - I avoid the term Platonic Love for several reasons,  One, it’s meaning going back to Platonic Forms implies it is the most pure and true form of love which I don’t agree with.  Also, it implies an exclusion of sexual and romantic love in how it is used while in Yuri devotion is often expressed in intense friendships and is an important part of connections between characters.
Familial love - While the first three are all common in Yuri, familiar love is the least common.
The fifth kind I don’t have a term for yet but it is based on common experience, sometimes trauma, sometimes not that binds people together in a sense of shared identity around these events.
It is important to underscore that several of these afflictions are not sapphic or lesbian and while yuri comics are often sapphic the genre has enough diversity that it shouldn’t be defined as such.
Ambiguity
Ambiguity is a common theme in the genre, with character feelings and even the exact form of conflict resolution often unclear to the reader and open to interpretation.  “The Hairdresser” is an example of this, where the characters have a relationship at the end but the nature of it is unclear.  It might be a mild form of devotion though one clearly has some level of aesthetic attraction.
In “A Tropical Fish Yearns for Snow” both characters are ingenues and everything is ambiguous throughout.  In “The Hairdresser” a girl attracted to another does her hair, they clearly develop a relationship at the end but what kind is left in doubt.
Power Exchange
Dominance and submissive themes exist and can be expressed in various kinds of existing affections.  In “Master 1/365” a sexual attraction is connected to the aggressor putting herself into a submissive role.
In “Human Emotion” a co-worker is seen as a pet, fitting naturally into a dependent role with the protagonist.
Conflicts
All Yuri has one central false conflict and one or more true conflicts.  The false conflict mirrors western romance literature and is the resolution of the status of a relationship between two women.
The tone of resolutions is diverse ranging from happily ever after to tragedy and bittersweet endings far more common than in English western literature.  Additionally, even the tone can be ambiguous.
This is attributed to a critical difference between Yuri and Western romances.  While both revolve around a central relationship conflict the resolutions are very different.  Western romances may factor some self revelation in the build up to resolution but resolving the relationship itself resolves the conflict.  This is to say the conflict is external.
After the rain
In Yuri the true conflict is internal to one or more of the main characters.  The resolution of the relationship between them is a side effect of internal conflict being resolved but optional.  Nothing may change in that relationship or it may be ambiguous.
Character Roles
The Minx - Is interested in another girl sexually and/or romantically.  This does not preclude other types of relationships as they are often friends as well.  May have many self doubts and not be as sophisticated as they appear.  May be aggressive and a combination of their doubts and interests are usually a major driving force behind the plot in stories in which they appear.  Examples: Hotaru from NTR.  Both characters in “The Unemployed Woman and the High School Girl” are minxes, an unusual point of conflict. The aggressiveness of the minx can mix into themes in a variety of ways, for example in “Master for 1/365” the minx positions herself to be the slave of the enigma until out of frustration she makes a physical ploy.
The Ingenue - This girl is naive and is likely interested in other girls but not even aware of it herself. Often paired with a Minx. Examples: Yuma-chan from NTR.
The Enigma - This is a character we don’t get to see the internal voice of and is often unexpressive.  They are an object of interest from other characters and we often don’t know their feelings until the end and even then may only be implied. Their job is to react. Kai-san from “Happiness in the Shape of a Scar” from vol 1 of Eclair is an example.  Note that being an enigma is not about being emotionally reserved but their viewpoint as to the relationship is unknown.  In “Human Emotion” from volume one of Eclair we see that the minx is very reserved and probably autistic while the enigma is very vocal and expressive.
The Tourist - This character has just wandered into a Yuri story and really has no place in it.  Often used open endings and plot twists.
The two combinations of the Minx and the Ingenue and the Minx and the Enigma are the most common pairings because indeterminate relationship is one of the most common storylines in the genre.

Thursday Thoughts: What Makes Us Human
Seven years ago, I entered a video to a contest with the Big History Project, answering the question, “What makes us human?” The answer I came up with, then (and you can still find the video here, though I haven’t used that YouTube channel in a very long time), is that a human attaches emotional value to something that another human would reasonably see as junk. Any animal can demonstrate that it values things that help it to live - food, territory, and other creatures - but only humans develop subjective emotional attachment to things that do not provide any concrete benefit.
But can I really prove that no non-human animal has ever developed an attachment to something that another animal did not want? I can easily imagine a dog ripping up a toy to the point where no other dog would want to play with it, but still refusing to allow its owner to throw the toy away. Does this mean that the dog is human?
Not only am I second-guessing my own argument, now, but I’m also second-guessing the question itself. IS there something that all humans have but other species do not? IS there something that “makes us human?”
I don’t think there is. I think there are a lot of things that a human COULD have, but none of them are exclusively human, and none of them apply to all humans.
You know those videos of dogs and cats using buttons to communicate with their owners? Sometimes I see people commenting on these videos that this is a sign that the animal has a soul. I don’t necessarily want to make a theological point here, or a sci-fi point for that matter, but saying that something has a “soul” is basically the same thing as saying that it is equal to a human. I don’t look at these videos and see proof that a dog or a cat is in any way equal to a human. Instead, I see proof that communication - the ability to equate sound X with meaning Y - is a basic animal ability. Communication or even the use of words isn’t something that elevates humans or separates us from the rest of the natural world. And not all humans communicate in this way, either. Are nonverbal humans not human? Are humans who are incapable of using assistive communication devices not human? This is a dangerously ableist line of thought.
Frankly, claiming that any one thing “makes us human” is always going to dehumanize someone. Asexual and aromantic people both deal with this and sometimes perpetuate it ourselves. It goes something like this:
Aphobes: “Sexual attraction is what makes us human! If you don’t want sex, you must not be human!”
Sex-positive asexuals: “Okay, but even though I don’t experience sexual attraction, I can still want to have sex, so, I’m still human.”
Alloromantic asexuals: “And even if I don’t want sex, I can still feel romantic love. Sex isn’t what makes us human. Love is what makes us human.”
Aromantic asexuals: “The thing is, I don’t experience romantic attraction. BUT I still feel platonic love for my family and friends, so, I’m still human!”
Loveless aro-aces: “Okay but I wouldn’t describe anything that I feel as ‘love.’ I honestly don’t experience that at all. Does that mean I’m not human?”
We want there to be something that all humans have, and only humans have. We want humans to be special and to be easily united by a single trait. But there isn’t, we aren’t, and we can’t be. And I think that’s a good thing.
I like that there’s no good reason, ever, to point at a human being and say, “You’re not human and therefore I have a right to mistreat you.” It opens the door to treating more people humanely than we currently do. And if there is such a thing as objective progress in the world, it’s developing society in a way that leads to treating more people humanely.

Okay, I know I've kinda vented here a lot, but I'm thinking things so I'm trying to put it all on a post and since many of you interact with my other posts I'm just gonna drop it all here. Under cut: me venting about comments or other forms of interaction with my fics in the perspective of an aspec person. Interactions range from aphobia to amatonormativity to people who are probably just uninformed.
Okay, I have no idea how I want this organized, I'm making this up as I go. Let's see what happens.
Let's start with just the amatonormativity/allonormativity.
Confessions of love are not always romantic. The average person has probably told friends and family, "I love you," before. But in the context of fiction, suddenly that phrase is only applicable in romantic settings. Biggest example is my fic where two characters in a platonic relationship confess platonic love after having a chapter of sharing a bed because they've been through traumatic stuff recently and are scared to be separated. (Let Me Help)
Why would you ever think it's okay to tell an author you're disappointed with them because they won't write smut? Like, seriously, why would that ever be okay? If you want nsfw, there are a thousand fics with nsfw you can read. Do not ask me to write nsfw. I am sex averse, so that is not something I'm comfortable with. Part of my religion is not reading, writing, or watching sex scenes, so I'm not going to write it. But there are a thousand other very serious reasons why someone might not want to write a sex scene. And even if it's just that you don't want to, that doesn't mean you should be bullied into writing a sex scene. But, no, people keep telling me it's upsetting that I write Loki as asexual and don't give him steamy scenes. (Captive)
The constant sexual comments. I might not like people being overtly horny, but I don't care. What does make me feel uncomfortable is when they write comments in which they say my confirmed aspec characters are having sexual thoughts? I don't know how to say it. It's like them saying that the explicitly ace character wants to rail another character. I don't know, maybe this is just a me thing. But it feels so...erasing. Like I'm over here handing out ace rep (albeit in fanfiction) and then people just...toss that away? Ignore it, and instead say this character is hypersexual. Like, is it just me, or does that feel really rude and hurtful? Like, if they're going to want to make comments like that, can't they do it somewhere else? (Captive)
The automatic assumption that something is done with romantic intent. Whether that's sharing a bed because of fear of separation, kidnapping, looking for someone, whatever it is. I keep getting comments about one character liking another or whatever. And, I mean, it's less of an issue if they are two characters the audience knows will fall for each other. But with two random characters that don't have anything to indicate romantic feelings, it feels so weird. Even with characters that will fall eventually, not everything they do is romantic. I write exclusively slow burns (okay, idk if some of them are slow burns. Readers have referred to them as such, but if there's like 30 chapters? I think they referred to it that way because they started reading when I first published it, and it took a few years to write. I suppose eventual romance might be a better description). Use some common sense? In like, the first fifteen chapters, like most of my fics are? Nope, not romantic. Like, I understand, there are grey areas. I plan to exploit that later on ("do I really like them?" sort of thing). But it's too early for that. But I can forgive those more. But, come on, not every character in this is a love interest. (Captive, Let Me Help)
Kind of a subsection of that. Part of this is not entirely the readers' fault. But, in one fic, it is very clear that Tony cares a lot about [Y/N]. I have had some people ask if they were in a relationship prior to the story. 1) Tony literally says in the first chapter that he's with Pepper. 2) That man cannot be in the same room as someone under 25 without adopting them. This happens in the same fic with [Y/N] and Bucky. It is established that they have a deep bond, and that, like the rest of the Avengers, she considers him family. And, I don't know, maybe I made it look like they are in a relationship or something, but they aren't. Purely familial. Just because he is the one she is the closest to doesn't make it not familial. (Captive)
Alright, I make it very clear that I write characters as aspec. I include it in author's notes, the description, tags, etc. Yet people still are
(tumblr apparently has a limit for how many words can be in a "block" & I reached it so here I am continuing it #6) surprised when I later say something more obvious about them being aspec. Like, do they not check tags and description beforehand? C'mon. Not that hard. Don't act all surprised. (Captive)
Now for something I considered worse:
I had someone plagiarize my fic before. Some paragraphs were word for word. Except they were so acephobic, saying that asexuals are incapable of love, compassion, empathy, sympathy, or warmth. I asked them if the fic was based on mine (I have no idea how I found it, it just popped up one day on my Wattpad. there are like 10 views, & most of them are mine, so now idea how I found it). Author said yes. And I felt so upset because this person literally stole word for word some of my writing but changed Loki to make it acephobic as frick. Not very happy. But I never did anything about it because the only parts written well were from me. The rest has every single fanfic mistake you can think of. That fic is by no means popular. (Captive)
