I started typing this whole thing on mobile and couldn't figure out how to put a break in and I refuse to update the app. Fuck it. You are scrolling past this whole damn thing. Unfollow me. This is all I'm gonna be talking about for the next two weeks.
Exo needs to break up. They have needed to break up. That was my hot take I had been saying I'd eventually share but I never got around to it, and now it's a lot more apparent. Not that I thought this was going to happen. I thought that when I finally posted this, someone might be mad about it, but in wake of CBX's lawsuit I don't think anyone's going to be surprised to hear it.
I was sure exo members were done suing SM entertainment a long time ago. It's been 9 years since Kris and Luhan filed their lawsuits, both of whom won. It's been 8 years since Tao's hiatus, and almost 8 since he filed his lawsuit months later, which he ended up losing despite never rejoining exo. I became a fan of exo during Call Me Baby promotions when Tao was still dancing with a broken leg. I was 15 at the time, about to turn 16. EXO scandals were extremely fresh and ongoing. But those three are so far in the past now. Lay quietly decided not to renew recently, but he hadn't been able to appear with the group for 5 years so, yeah. No surprise. But I really thought it was all done when EXO-M was done for.
Well, I can tell you why I'd been thinking for a while EXO should break up. It's because they're really a thing of the past, and essentially after Love Shot, it felt like there was nowhere to go from there.
That felt like the last breath of their 5 year long prime. Don't get me wrong, it was awesome. EXO have hit after hit after hit, think of the absolute best most addictive song by your favorite pop artist, and EXO have a discography of mostly those. But they haven't grown and changed artistically or commercially as a group. They've been around 11 years, they're in their 30s now, and I don't even think most of them have the heart to revitalize their prime like Super Junior did after their military hiatus was over. Maybe a couple of them have it in them to do the pop star thing for their entire careers, but I didn't think that like, Sehun or Chanyeol were necessarily passionate about creating new music for the rest of their career. Chen has a family now and that's also something I'd like the rest of exo to afford without their huge commercial group getting in the way of that. The only one I felt for sure would not be done anytime soon was Baekhyun. I thought he'd be the new Kangta of the group, sticking around when EXO were dormant and fizzled out. I never thought SM would actually let them break up, like H.O.T did when I was a baby. But yeah, Baekhyun leaving shocks me the most. Not that I blame him. I do fully believe the allegations made in the lawsuit as SM have had such a shady reputation.
Looking at SM's pre-EXO boy groups, one might say EXO were the main successor to Super Junior, because, obviously, both groups debuted with 12 people. Large groups like that weren't really a thing in kpop before Super Junior debuted. Additionally, Han Geng of Suju was one of the first Chinese kpop idols. In 2008, two more Chinese members were added to the sub unit Super Junior-M, which released Mandarin versions of pre-existing and original Korean Super Junior songs. Hm, this sounds familiar. I only just built up a better case for the EXO/SJ argument. Diana and I talk about this sometimes though; I once made an argument that I think EXO was more a successor to TVXQ/DBSK (Tong Vfang Xien Qi/Dong Bang Shin Ki), which I would have forgotten saying if she never brought up that one time i said it ever again.
In July of 2009, JYJ threw the first brick at SM Entertainment I mean TVXQ's members Kim "Hero" Jaejoong, Park "Micky" Yoochun and Kim "Xiah" Junsu filed a lawsuit against SM for contract termination, claiming they had been coerced into slave contracts as minors. They were 22-23 at the time, TVXQ having debuted on December 26th, 2003. The three of them won the lawsuit, signed to C-Jes Entertainment and formed the new group, JYJ, of just the three of them. It was assumed the original five piece was dead by that point, but surprisingly, in 2010, Jung "U-Know" Yunho and Shim "Max" Changmin chose to stay at SM and continue TVXQ as a duo.
This whole thing is arguably the most significant scandal in the 30-year history of SM. TVXQ had been SM's biggest success to date and some argue they and Boa still are. Your faves wouldn't have cracked Japan without the efforts of those two, and if kpop didn't reach Japan in the early 2000s, the entertainment industry in a small East Asian country wouldn't have become huge across the entire planet---and frankly, if TVXQ hadn't been big internationally, they'd have been done for because SM had them blacklisted from Korean television for a decade.
Han Geng of Super Junior actually did file for contract termination shortly after JYJ did, also for mistreatment. As did Luhan, Tao and Kris as we've already acknowledged. But all four of them could move to the entertainment industry in China. Sure, you're always going to lose something by leaving as big a group as EXO, Super Junior or TVXQ, but SM hasn't been sued by its Korean idols since JYJ. Baekhyun, Xiumin and Chen know that they're putting at least as much on the line. And now, like TVXQ, more than half of EXO are no longer in the group, and the majority of the run for the both of them has had this cloud of mistreatment over their reputations. They were also both so unstoppably huge and popular.
I was in elementary school for DB5K's prime, and there were fans of kpop in the west but I can't tell you what their success across Asia looked like as someone who wasn't there. But I can tell you, between 2015-2016 when kpop gradually started to become very big, EXO for a time were bringing in more people to kpop than A Particularly Famous Group in the West I Have No Interest in Naming Because I Don't Want Their Fucking Fans Derailing My Post With Unrelated Discourse While I'm Not Even Talking About Them. Just believe me there was a time when EXO were way more popular in the west than Said Band I Decline to Specify, the eclipse that happened was gradual, and to my understanding EXO continued to be the biggest thing in Asia despite that another one eventually cracked America more and I'm not denying that they did. Point is, EXO coming first was important to all of that, because I and several others wouldnt have heard of the one kpop group if EXO didnt get us all into kpop first from 2013-15/16.
That all said now, this was all very much not how I'd wanted EXO to actually end. This is crashing and burning. Much like TVXQ, EXO is not going to be able to have a reunion after this, because they'll never receive SM's blessing to work together. I mean, EXO-M never would. 12 member EXO hardly lasted for two years though and their prime was very new when people started leaving, so to be honest, I don't know if the kids getting into EXO in the 2020s would really care to see Luhan, Tao, and Someone Sitting In Prison Whose Name I've Uttered More Than I'd Like To.
But in a similar vain, while DB5K originally split into two, JYJ are all off in different directions now. Yoochun was fired. Junsu left C-Jes and made his own label. Jaejoong did the same recently. Could you tell I listen TVXQ? But yeah, now that there are more than 3-4 people departed from EXO, they've got former members going in a lot of different directions. Someone already said it but I hope Xiumin follows Luhan back now. Back in my day Xiuhan were so cute.
Also, since I managed not to slip this into the post anywhere.... these guys have been showing up to work. Every damn day they've been showing up to work, that's another reason why it's so shocking. Chen dropped a song days ago and Baekhyun has been doing shows, posting dance practices, EXO have been appearing together for their 11th anniversary and supposed upcoming comeback. Whaaat a slap in the face. I support CBX 100% though and you should too.

Maniac
Summary: After revealing her true blood status to her boyfriend Draco Malfoy, he immediately breaks up with her and goes back to his Slytherin friends to mock her. She overhears him and refuses his attempted apologies. Although he still loves Rosa despite her being Muggleborn, he knows he must remain loyal to his family with the war quickly approaching.
Based on Maniac by Conan Gray
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You were with your friends, partying
When the alcohol kicked in
Said you wanted me dead
“So...she’s muggleborn,” Blaise replied as he leaned back in his chair, taking another sip of his firewhiskey.
“Mudblood,” Draco corrected.
“ Scum,” added Pansy, sliding even closer to him. Draco promptly stood from the couch, and stumbled over to the closest open arm chair in the Slytherin common room. Pansy scoffed, but stayed put.
The newest Weird Sisters album filled Draco’s already pounding head. He was having trouble deciding if it was too early to be this drunk, or if he needed another drink. His friends had been grilling him since the beginning of the party, when he confided in them about the events of last weekend.
Their date had been going well. Draco had gotten too comfortable. He should have seen this coming. He knew the Ravenclaw girl he had eyed in his first year Potions class was too good to be true. It had taken her until second year to laugh at his jokes, and until fourth year to finally dignify him with a response. They had gotten close that year, and owled each other all summer. When they got back at the beginning of this year, their fifth year at Hogwarts, it took them until the Hallowe’en party to confess their feelings and they had been dating since that night. The last six months had been full of dates in the room of requirement and studying on the front lawn by the lake. They got each other. Not like Blaise and Pansy got him from their shared childhood. Not like Crabbe and Goyle got him from their family history. She got him, no Slyhterin pressure, no heartlessness, and no Malfoy name.
She had visited the Manor over Christmas to meet Draco’s parents. They approved of Rosalind Morton, not that Draco was worried, he knew their only criteria was blood status. He had made his father proud by bringing home a pureblood.
So when she told him the truth last weekend, when she told him she had been lying, she wasn’t a pureblood, he’d only had one question; “how could you do this to me?” And that was it. He got up and left her sitting there by the lake. Alone.
They hadn’t spoken since then. When she tried to look at him, he avoided her gaze.
And that’s how Draco found himself here in the common room, in a drunken stupor, cursing his ex-girlfriend’s blood.
Blaise continued, ignoring Draco’s less than subtle irritation at the conversation, “so what now?”
“Nothing,” Draco said, “it’s over. She’s dead to me.” Blaise scanned the room, and his eyes widened as they landed on Rosa, already staring back at him. He laughed.
“What’s s’funny?” Draco slurred. Blaise pointed and Draco turned his head slowly. For the first time since her confession, Draco found himself making eye contact with Rosa, “D’you think she heard that?” Draco asked Blaise loudly, despite the fact that he was still staring at Rosa.
“I hope so,” Blaise said, still laughing. They watched silently as Rosa left the party.
So, you showed up at my home,
All alone, with a shovel and a rose
Do you think I’m a joke?
When Blaise told Draco about the events of the previous night, he prayed to Merlin that they weren’t true.
“Mudblood?” he asked. Blaise nodded.
“It’s over?” he asked.
“Yep,” Blaise said.
“Dead to me?” he asked, recounting all the terrible things he’d said.
“All of the above,” Blaise admitted. For the first time since it happened, Blaise did seem to feel a little bad for him.
“I didn’t mean any of it.”
“I know. You’re telling this to the wrong person,” Blaise replied.
“I still love her, even though I shouldn’t,” Draco confessed.
“So screw it, go get her back. If you can.”
“And risk everything? I’ll lose my family, my friends, my reputation. It’s too dangerous. There’s a war coming and it's not up to me to choose my side.”
“If she didn’t accept that side of you she never would’ve dated you.”
“Yeah, that’s why she lied.”
“You’re welcome to stay with my family. You don’t have to do it, you know.”
“And leave Mum alone with him? They’ll be killed,” Draco said, thinking about the impending war. He knew what he’d have to do.
“You need her. If you’re going to get her forgiveness it’s now or never,” Blaise said. Draco knew he was right. There wasn’t much time. Even if it didn’t last, he had to make the most of the little time he had left.
Draco stood up and left the dorm, heading to the lake. He hoped she’d be waiting there at their usual spot for him, but he was disappointed to find it occupied by a Hufflepuff couple on a picnic. He searched for her all day, but she wasn’t in the library, Room of Requirement, or any of the meals in the Great Hall. Knowing she’d have to return back to her dormitory before curfew, Draco staked out in front of the entrance to the Ravenclaw common room.
Minutes before their nine o’clock curfew she turned the corner to see him waiting against the wall. After making quick eye contact with him, she immediately turned around and walked away from him. She’d take Filch’s wrath over talking to him. Accelerating footsteps followed her around the corner and she felt a hand pull her shoulder back.
“Rosa…”
“Don’t, Malfoy,” Rosa said resolutely.
“I supposed I deserve that, but can we-.”
“No, you deserve much worse,” she replied, still standing her ground.
“Yes, you’re right. But I really am-,” Draco tried again.
“Glad we’re on the same page then,” she finished. She shouldered him as she walked back to the common room entrance, leaving him there. Alone.
‘Cause people like you
Always want back what they can’t have
But I’m past that and you know that
So you should turn back to your rat pack
Tell ‘em I’m trash
She knew she’d find him there again the next night, but hoped he would give it up soon.
“Can we please talk?” he asked quickly, hoping to finish at least one sentence tonight.
“Sure! Did you come to call me a Mudblood to my face this time?” she asked sarcastically.
“No, I’m sorr-.”
“Wait, we should probably go somewhere private to do this.”
“I was thinking the same thing,” he said as he pulled her into an empty classroom nearby.
“Figured you wouldn’t want to be seen talking to a Mudblood,” she said once the door was closed.
“You’re not a Mudblood.”
“Oh, but I thought I already told you. I am.”
“That’s not what I meant, Rosa.”
“Well, what exactly did you mean then when you were talking to your friends?”
“I was drunk, and Pansy was grilling me,” he defended.
“Drunk words are sober thoughts. Oh wait, that’s a Muggle saying. You wouldn’t know it.”
“I’m sorry,” he replied a little too loudly.
“That would be so sweet if it were true!”
“What can I do to make you believe me Rosa? I’ll do anything.”
“That’s the thing Malfoy, I’ll never believe it. Go back to Slytherin and save your reputation,” she said and walked out on him again.
Tell all of your friends that I’m crazy
And drive you mad
That I’m such a stalker,
a watcher, a psychopath
Then tell them you hate me
And dated me just for laughs
So why do you call me
And tell me you want me back
You maniac
Their usual group sat in the Slytherin common room, deep in a Potions essay.
“I saw you and Rosa in the corridor yesterday,” said Pansy.
“She follows me everywhere,” Draco lied, eyeing Blaise. “She’s crazy. Poor thing can't get over me.”
“I can't believe you guys were together for so long,” said Pansy.
“I didn't know she was a mudblood,” he said, defending himself, “She’s a pathological liar. She manipulated me.”
“I didn’t know the Slytherin Prince could be manipulated,” Pansy smirked.
“I can’t! I suspect love potion,” Draco defended.
“Now who’s the pathological liar?” Blaise mumbled. Draco scowled at him.
“I never loved her anyway. It was fun to drag her along. You should’ve seen the look on her face when I broke up with her!” Draco gave a fake laugh, hoping it was enough to convince his judging friends. He knew he shouldn’t be lying, but couldn’t admit he’d fallen in love with a Mudblood, much less that he still loved her despite the confession.
“She was quite clingy. I wish I could’ve seen it go down,” Pansy joined in the laughter, eager to make fun of Rosa.
As it got later and they finished their essays many of them headed to bed, leaving the common room empty except for Draco and Blaise.
“You shouldn’t lie about her like that. It’ll get back to her somehow,” Blaise suggested.
“I don’t care if she finds out! She’s not going to take me back anyway. She’s made that perfectly clear,” Draco said, finally breaking, “I’ve tried everything. She won’t forgive me. It’s over.”
“I’m heading up, you coming?” Blaise asked, grabbing his textbooks. “I’ll be up later.”
Blaise went up the stairs to bed, leaving Draco to his thoughts. He tried to get his feelings out onto paper and ended up with a letter addressed to her. He figured nothing worse could come of it, so he spilled everything to her and headed off to bed, not feeling much better. He gave his owl a treat and the letter and passed out on his bed.
You just went too far, wrecked your car
Called me crying in the dark
Now you’re breaking my heart
So I show up at your place, right away
Wipe the tears off of your face
While you beg me to stay
He told Blaise about the letter the next morning at breakfast, who thought it had been a really great idea. Draco did feel better, and tried to ignore the slight bit of hope he had that she’d take him back after reading it. After not seeing her the entire day, he thought he’d go to the Ravenclaw entrance again tonight for one last attempt at getting forgiveness. But the clock hadn’t even struck eight when Pansy walked into the Slytherin common room in a fit of giggles.
“There’s someone waiting for you Draco,” she said with her usual smirk.
Rosalind looked much calmer than she had since the night of the party. He made sure the door was shut before starting, “I’m assuming you got my letter.”
“Yes, that’s why I’m here. I appreciate it, Draco, but we’re over. You said it yourself at the party.”
He was overcome with dread at her mention of his idiotic words that night. With a deep breath he attempted to defend himself, “I was way too drunk. You know my friends, once they heard about what you told me they didn’t think there was any way I’d stay with you.”
“Apparently they were right,” apparent anger rising in her now, “I heard about your conversation last night with them. It was fun to drag me along, was it? And I know for a fact there’s no love potion strong enough to make you love someone of my kind.”
“Rosa, I don’t know what to say.”
“Then just listen. This is done. I don’t care what you say to your stupid friends anymore. I thought you were different than everyone said, but you’ve proven me wrong. I thought I knew the real you, but you are exactly like everyone said. So go ahead, call me what you want. Tell them all the lies you can about me. I don’t care! Just know that in a year when you have nothing left, you won’t have me either.”
“Please, Rosa. You’re all I’ll have when the war starts. Hell, you’re all I have now!” he begged.
“You don’t have me! You lost me when you left me alone at the lake. After I’d trusted you with something so important to me. You lost me when you didn’t speak to me for a week. You lost me when you called me that awful word! Drunk or not, I heard it come out of your mouth. And now, you’ve lost me when you still lie to your friends. I’d be willing to at least listen to you if you admitted your feelings to them, but you can’t even do that. You are a coward.”
Psychopathic, don’t be so dramatic
We had magic, but you made it tragic
Now you’re manic, honestly, I’ve had it
Listen to yourself, think you need to get some help
Draco felt the door behind him open and looked to see Crabbe, Goyle, Pansy and Blaise staring at them. With no hope left at salvaging what he’d had with Rosa, he thought back to his conversation the other day with Blaise. If he admitted to lying in front of them, he’d lose the only support he could possibly have during the impending war. And with his decision already made, he knew what he needed to do.
“I told you to stop following me!” He heard Pansy snicker behind him, “And no, I won’t get back together with you.”
Rosa looked at him, knowing she truly had been wrong about the boy she loved so deeply. He watched the slight bit of faith she’d had in him disappear as she played along dramatically.
“Oh, but Draco, I love you!” The laughing grew louder at her words.
“You’re pathetic,” he felt sick as the words left his mouth, knowing she wouldn’t give it up and expose his lies.
“Yeah, he deserves better than someone like you,” Pansy added nastily.
“Stay out of it, Pansy. I can handle her myself,” he said, hoping to save Rosa from Pansy’s unfiltered words.
“I hoped after getting my letter you’d change your mind, Dray,” Rosa continued the conversation, not only mocking his letter but throwing her old nickname at him. For the first time since they’d broken up, he wanted nothing more than to cry. He wished his friends would leave them alone so he could talk to her. He wished he could be real to her in front of them, but every time he thought about telling her he still loved her images of his father slamming the door in his face would swim in his mind. Why did he have to be a Malfoy?
“Nothing you could’ve written would’ve changed my mind,” he replied, “I don’t associate myself with people like you.”
“I knew the potion wasn’t strong enough,” she falsely admitted.
“Oh my god, you were right!”
“I said shut up, Pansy! I told you there was no way I could fall in love with a Mudblood.”
As the word left his mouth he wished he could take it back. He saw the tears well in her eyes. Even if he could take it back, it was too late. Rosa would never love him again. He was a pureblood. A Malfoy. A Death Eater.
Tell all of your friends that I’m crazy
And drive you mad
That I’m such a stalker,
a watcher, a psychopath
Then tell them you hate me
And dated me just for laughs
So why do you call me
And tell me you want me back
You maniac

johnny in a café
look at his lil face in this photo eye- !!!! anyway i love johnny i love cafés here u go i guess :))) i feel like this went on for so long i had to end it where i did, but it seems kind of unfinished to me, so if u want a part ii, lmk! 💞💖💘
(1.8k words, fluff,  johnny makes a dick joke, swearing as you can tell lmao)
song rec: coffee break by lucas & jonah nilsson y'all know i had to
Tumblr media
To be completely honest, you had never really cared for kpop idols.
Don’t get me wrong, you didn’t have anything against them, you had just always been too busy with your schoolwork to genuinely pay attention to one particular group, and aside from the huge hits which came on at every party, you couldn’t say you knew very much about the industry as a whole. It wasn’t that you disliked them, you just didn’t know enough about kpop to formulate an overall positive or negative opinion.
Maybe that was why your friend Minhyuk tolerated you working in SM’s café. He had scored the job there a few summers ago (”Due to my charming personality and unparalleled good looks,” he had informed you), and you were the only one in your friendship group that he had let in on the secret, presumably because of your indifference towards the company. You had been looking for a place to study in peace close to campus ever since your college days had commenced, and you decided that the café was an adequate spot. Since Minhyuk knew you weren’t concerned with idols’ lives, he was confident you wouldn’t cause trouble, and convinced his manager to let you stay there for hours, so long as you gave him a ride home at the end of his shift.
Although it was usually annoyingly busy, filled with tourists and teenagers attempting to spot their favourite members, and the coffee was watered-down Starbucks-esque bullshit, the seats were comfortable, and walking there took less than five minutes from your lecture hall. As long as you kept your head down, and your headphones in, you found the place was tolerable, and after a while you grew to harbour a small affection for the pink walls (although you never got used to the huge posters of the SM idols boring holes into your forehead that were replaced every week).
Unfortunately, your uninterrupted bliss was not destined to last. The end of your study salvation came in the form of a tall, permanently smirking idol, who suddenly started gangling through the café at least once a week. Whilst most of the idols who frequented the café came through as surreptitiously as they could, cap pulled over their head, mask pulled to the side as they stage-whispered their order, this boy was the complete opposite. Rattling off his group’s order ostentatiously, he made sure to send frequent winks over his shoulder at the fans almost weeing themselves at the sight of the back of his head.
The first time he came down, there were so many squeals you took out your headphones in alarm, afraid the fire alarm had gone off, or there was some other emergency. Fortunately, it was only the boy who had caused the ruckus, and you couldn’t help but to roll your eyes slightly at all the fuss.
This was probably your first mistake.
It seemed no one else in the café had noticed your unimpressed expression, apart from, strangely, the boy himself. To your utter surprise, he sent a wink directly your way, and a finger heart a few seconds later, when he realised that instead of being met with a scream, you had just frowned slightly. The ‘fanservice’ was uncomfortable for you, not only because his sudden attention drew others in the café to look at you, but also because, well to be frank, you had no idea who he was. You didn’t have a clue what he did. For all you knew, he could’ve been a particularly attractive manager the fans had taken a liking to.
Nevertheless, you simply shoved your earphones back in, and got on with the rest of your work. He returned the very next day. This time, the café was less crowded, so though there were still some scattered gasps and shrieks when he walked in, you could keep your headphones in. You made sure to keep your eyes glued on your screen for the duration of his visit, pointedly ignoring him in hopes of avoiding contact with him this time. When he left without acknowledging you, there was a fleeting moment of disappointment. You put it down to lack of sleep.
The boy didn't return for the rest of the week, and to be honest, you kind of forgot about the noisy kpop idol, mind more fixated on your looming midterms. It was only when Minhyuk practically yanked you over the counter the following Thursday morning, that he even crossed your mind again.
“Guess who asked for your name this morning!” He hissed, eyes wide.
It was clear from your deadpan expression you weren’t about to start listing possible culprits, so you were given the answer practically immediately.
“Johnny Seo!” Minhyuk gaped at your blank face. “Okay, I knew your kpop knowledge was bad, but how can you not know who NCT are?!”
Clueless at his indignant expression, you simply scoffed, grabbed your coffee cup from his hands, and sat back down, ignoring his protests, begging to show you “Just one music video!” No matter how curious you were as to who this Johnny might be, as long as you had exams, you did not have time for boys, famous kpop idol or not.
After a few hours of studying, you finally cracked. You reasoned with yourself that surely a quick Google wouldn't hurt during your 15 minute break. 40 minutes, and about 300 open tabs later, you had to admit, he was cute. Somehow he managed to look both sweet and sexy at the same time, exuding the cocky charisma that had irked you the first time you had saw him. You decided he looked less annoying when he wasn’t able to open his mouth. Planning to focus on his group’s discography next break, you were just about to close the browser window when-
“Hey.”
Slamming your laptop shut, in a desperate attempt to hide your browser history, you kept your eyes focused on your shoes. Having just watched an interview, you knew exactly who the voice belonged to.
“Hi, Johnny.”
“Oh, so you do know who I am! Guess you just got a little starstruck last week, huh, babe?”
Your nose crinkled at the sentence. No matter how good-looking Johnny was, there was no bigger turn-off to you than rudeness.
“I had other things to do. Bigger fish to fry and all that.” You kept your tone curt, still avoiding his gaze, unable to trust yourself to not accidentally reveal what you had just been doing for the good part of an hour.
“Pretty sure the biggest fish around here, is uh, standing in front of you, if you know what I mean.”
Your nose crinkled in disgust. Ugh. If you’re going to make a dick joke, at least make it funny, or at least, have some semblance of logic within its reasoning, you thought.
He chuckled, seemingly unfazed that you weren’t joining in with his laughter. “Well, listen, babydoll, I’ve gotta run, star member of the world’s biggest boyband and all that, but why don’t you take this,” he slid a note onto your textbook with a set of digits on it, “And give me a call. Whenever.”
With that, he was gone. You could finally lift your head up. Sighing, you picked up the scrap of paper Johnny had left. There was a fleeting moment when you considered selling the number, but you ended up just tossing it into the bin, pointedly ignoring Minhyuk practically hyperventilating in the corner over the interaction between you two.
Thankfully, Johnny didn’t come in for a few weeks after that. You began to think you were safe. You had realised the boy had started weeping up on you in small ways. You no longer scoffed when you saw billboards with his face on it, started listening to his music when studying, even wondering what he was up to from time to time. As far as you were concerned, the further away Johnny was, the better.
As soon as you began you relax again, Johnny turned up.
“You didn't call.”
He seemed confused, towering over you once again. You considered pretending to have not heard him, after all, you still had your headphones in, but eventually decided it was better to just reject him as early as possible.
“You didn't ask if I was going to. You just gave me your number.” You accused, practically ripping the buds out.
“Well, I didn't think-”
“No. You didn't.” Turning back to your computer, you were about to resume your music, when you realised he was still talking.
“But... Why not?” His voice faltered slightly, though you had no sympathy for him.
You scoffed, twisting in your chair, rolling your eyes right at him. “Because, though it might seem crazy to you, Mr. Seo, not every person on the planet is head over heels in love with you!" Your voice got louder, and you cursed yourself silently for being so easily riled up by him.
To your complete surprise and utter frustration, Johnny simply laughed at your little outburst, previous blip in confidence nonexistent. “Not yet they aren’t.”
You cursed how obvious your blush was. It completely undermined your statement, and both you and Johnny knew it.
He slouched off, sending a lopsided smirk in your direction as you groaned. You were going to have to find a new café.
As much as you hated to admit it, Johnny did start to creep into your thoughts more often. You kept frequenting the café, despite telling yourself that you needed to find a new one, and didn’t care for the tiny shiver of adrenaline every time you heard the gasp of someone recognising an idol. You were surprised to find yourself dismayed as the time started to stretch between Johnny’s last visit.
Running your hands through your hair, you sighed, unable to focus that evening. It had been a stifling afternoon, and since the cafés air-con had broken, you were literally the only customer in the entire building, trapped into waiting until Minhyuks shift ended. Sighing for what felt the the thousandth time today, you read and re-read the introduction to your essay, unable to be productive at all. You were ridiculously distracted by that stupid boy! Maybe you should take another class, you considered, your brain seemed to have a lot more free time than you liked. All you could think about was whether or not Johnny was in the building, whether he forgot you, whether he thought about you, what he was doing right now, why-
“Feeling as sweet as you look, Princess? Because let me tell you, it’s not exactly a pretty sight to-”
This time, upon hearing Johnny’s voice, you were shocked to have to suppress a smile. Distance really did make your heart grow fonder. There was no denying it now. You liked Johnny, the most obnoxious, self-absorbed person you knew.
“Never call me Princess again.” You deadpanned, figuring it was safest to ride out your surely temporary crush on Johnny, until he had moved on and you were safe to study in peace.
“Sure, Princess.” You tried not to notice how nice the word sounded when he said it. “Are you free?”
“What? W- why?” You prayed Johnny hadn’t noticed your stutter.
“Why not? I wanna take you on a date. Nothing’s stopping me.” A pause. “You aren’t nervous, aren’t you?” Of course he had picked up on it.
“Of course not!” You found your voice again.
“Okay, then lets go!” He reached for your hand, as if the matter had been settled.
“Excuse you? I have work! Essays and projects and a million other things that I need to do!” This was a lie. Your latest piece of homework was due in two weeks.
“So what I’m hearing is... later.”
“Whatever.”
“So, that’s a yes!” He whooped, grabbing you out of your chair and spinning you around.
Your face had never been redder in your life. Spluttering, you managed “I didn’t- I wasn't-”
“Oh, but you did! You were! I knew you couldn’t resist me!” Johnny crowed. With that he practically sprinted out of the door, and you were left flushed and wondering what in the world you had just agreed to.
Johnny didn’t come back to the café for another four weeks. You found it morbidly ironic that the when you finally decided that you wanted to see him, he was nowhere to be found. You ended up staying later than you needed to, having finished all your work and instead pottering around on your laptop, glancing around the café every few minutes. However, Johnny started to become more and more elusive. You tried to reason with yourself that since he was an idol, he had an extremely busy schedule, and even if he wanted to take you out, he couldn't. You knew he had a comeback coming out, as the promotional posters for it had been stuck all over the building. Yet as the distance between his last visit stretched longer and longer, you wondered whether you had imagined the boy’s interest after all.
Of course, after all your agonising and pining, you didn’t even notice Johnny when he actually did come into the café. Your headphones were in, as usual, attempting to drown out the boy talking loudly on the phone next to you. A light tap on your shoulder made you jump out of your skin, your terrified expression automatically melting into a smile when you saw who had been the culprit of your shock.
“Johnny!” You beamed.
“Woah, don’t look too happy to see me! I won’t be able to recognise you, from the Ice Princess you were last week.”
Wrinkling your nose slightly, you shot back, trying to distract from your flustered face “Four weeks ago, was the last time you saw me, not last week.”
“Not that you’re counting.” was the cheeky reply.
You chuckled. Touché.
Johnny flipped the chair opposite you backwards, sitting with his two legs resting comfortably on either side of the back of the chair, leaning on it’s top rail with his broad chest. You couldn’t help but notice how endearing his boyishness was.
“So, are you free now, Princess? Still up for the date I was promised?”
“Uhh...” You pretended to check your calendar app. “I guess I could spare an hour or two.”
“Wait, seriously?!” Johnny almost fell of his chair.
“You act as though I didn’t agree to it the first time you asked me.”
“I know, I just didn’t think you were actually serious! I mean,” You raised your eyebrows. “Well, we both know you’re out of my league!” It was his turn to flush. You were shocked by his words.
“You. An idol. A person whose job it is to look attractive. Thinks that I. The most average person you will ever meet. Is out of his league.” Your voice and expression were so deadpan, Johnny leaned over the table to ruffle your head affectionately, giggling.
“You’re hilarious, see? That’s what I’m talking about.”
You stood up, slinging your backpack over your shoulder. “Let's go, Seo.”
“Hey, that rhymed!”
You forgot to roll your eyes, too busy blushing when Johnny brushed your shoulders with his fingertips, wordlessly taking the bag from you and shifting it onto his back instead.
“C’mon, Ice Princess. Let’s go someplace with real food. The coffee here is awful - I only came down here to talk to you, anyway.”

(1/14)I am so sorry for taking so long! (I also had to spend a lot of time studying this week bc I had my first exam for my Anatomy Lab on Wednesday... And then we had our first exam for *Lecture* Thursday (which also was the day I had a bunch of powerpoints due for my very intimidating adviser...) and then I had to substitute teach all day Friday (and then I meant to respond sooner but I got so busy 😭) so yeah I completely understand about school getting in the way no worries abt it!)
And also sleeping in on a day off when you’ve been busy studying lately is completely valid hon 👌 I hope that your midterms go well and that you’re able to stay healthy and take care of yourself in the midst of preparing! (not that you wouldn’t, I just have a bad habit of neglecting things like healthy sleeping and eating habits when I get caught up studying, so hopefully you’re not like me in that way) And yeah me too! I mean on the one hand I understand *why* they have that limit
3)If u could just send as many as u want there would be so much more spam and ppl would definitely abuse that. But also?? Um? I have a chronic condition called ‘Can'tShuttheFuckUp-itis’? 🤷 This policy is so discriminatory towards people like me who suffer from this crippling condition! I feel oppressed honestly 🙄 tumblr rlly has something against ppl just trying to get to know each other huh? Lol, but at least now we know why it eats them I’ll be sure to try to prevent that in the future
4)And oh my gosh that’s so cool! I’m super jealous!! 😮 lol. I wish they hosted kpop nights at my local bar! 😭😭 But no, I’m here at my little state college in a little 2 mi2 town just under pop 5500 (and idek if that’s before or after counting college students) in the middle of the 'farm zone’ of my state. All we get is country night @Riley’s 😩 RIP. But ya I wish I had more ppl around me who were into kpop! So far I’ve only met 3 ppl who listen to it. One was that roommate I told you about
5)One is just a casual listener who isn’t really into 3rd gen groups and mostly just listens to Girl’s Generation but that’s valid, and one isn’t even rlly a fan of any groups in particular, she just puts the kpop station on when she studies bc she says she needs music but if it’s in English she gets distracted, lol And omg that is insane! $500?? And 5 copies of the same album? 😲 (Says the girl who’s been a Monbebe for a hot 2 months and has already bought three (3??) Monsta X T-shirts… 😂
6)in my defense tho one of them was only $10 bc it was Black Friday? And u can’t blame me, Hot Topic is my krypotonite lmao) but yeah I already feel guilty about spending 30+ dollars on one copy of an album (thx international shipping) That’s so wild. And yeah I don’t get why ppl feel the need go out of their way just to insult other ppl’s music taste. I’m also pretty self conscious abt sharing my music taste and obviously the way everyone around me talks abt kpop has made me even moreso now 🙃
7) I haven’t gotten into too many groups yet bc I’m trying to go slowly and focus on getting into one group at a time but I do have a long list of groups I plan on getting into eventually! NU'EST is one that I’ve heard some of their songs on my Spotify based on my listening history and they’re on the list haha 😂 And omg I feel really similarly about Got7! I tried to get into them after I got into Monsta X and right before I got into Astro and although I did really like some of their songs
8)I haven’t really been able to get into their music as much as MX and Astro’s yet. I do think they seem like a really fun group in terms of personality though. As for the comeback I know right?? I mean I know a lot of ppl were freaking out abt the comeback being a 'sexy’ and how it wasn’t gonna be the same cute Astro we all love anymore. But they filled the MV with flowers and glitter and still managed to make it sexy as fuck! This album has a very different vibe but it still felt like them
9) They managed to pull off a more mature and sexy concept while still staying true to themselves and I’m so here for it! I don’t know if I could really pick a favorite era because I love them all! I mean Spring Up was an excellent era and every era since then has been great. They really don’t know how to have any bad concepts or make any bad songs huh? Lol. Since I’m still pretty new I really love the title tracks since I’ve heard them the most. (I have listened to their full discography
10)But I haven’t listened to their Bsides enough to pick out my favorites from those) I also really love Again though! The first time I saw the dance practice I was super into it and then I looked up the lyrics and was like 'this is supposed to be sad/regretful song it has no reason to be this much of a BOP?!’ 😂 I have such a hard time picking favorites though. Since All Light is new though I actually have listened to it enough times to pick some 'non-title song favorites’ from there haha
11) Other than All Night (which is great, obvi) I also really like Starry Sky, Moonwalk and Role Play 😂 and Bloom is so pretty oh my god! 😭😭 the album is great and has no bad songs but those are the ones I particularly like. I feel u about the dances honestly. I think that’s actually what drew me to kpop initially. I mean I like listening to the songs ofc but it wasn’t until after I actually watched an MV/saw the choreography that I actually was like… Oh shit I’m gonna have to be a fan now
12) It was the visual aspect that really made me want to be a kpop fan bc I haven’t really seen that level of performance with any western music. Which isn’t to say I think all western music is bad but I think it’s really impressive to watch kpop groups singing and also doing really impressive choreography and performing at the same time. Plus that’s the part I can show my family and say 'even if you don’t like the music because of the language barrier you have to admit they’re talented dancers’
13)And yes! With Astro especially I think the dance practices rlly succinctly capture the reason why I love them so much. They are *super* talented but they also have such great chemistry and u can rlly tell that they just love each other and have so much fun together! I love a family of six hardworking dorks! 🤧💗 lol. And yeah it’s too bad that neither of are able to see them this cb ☹️ (I also did the 'hypothetically…’ research but it wouldn’t have worked out 😒) I hope you’re right though!
14)Hopefully the success of this comeback is the catalyst to Astro getting more of the attention they deserve and there will be many more opportunities to see them in the future! (Although it is too bad we won’t be able to see live performances from this cb, since it’s so pretty 😭 tho with their track record I’m sure future cb’s will be just as good lol) But what about you? Do you have any favorite songs from this cb in particular? Talk again soon! (I’ll try 2 b better @ responding 😭) -AHA
FUCKKK okay so after like a million years of midterms + 2 days straight of sleeping ya girl is BACK to answer these asks after getting through the hurdle of copying and pasting and italicizing 14 asks onto one response on my phone. Did I perhaps fail at least 3 of my midterms? Quite probably. Do I have the energy to care atm? No. Did I need to get away from everything and fly to Boston to visit my friend for reading week? Yes.
How did all your exams go? That sounds crazy though! I hope you got through everything ok!
Tbh I have the same unhealthy habits too, I essentially became nocturnal and lived on like one meal a day + snacks and coffee 😭 fr, I would be writing my midterm from 11:30-1:30, go home to eat, sleep from 4-7pm, then wake up to study all night for the next one, and repeat,,,,, I’m like an actual mess tbh
Honestly as much as I’ve enjoyed the Aroha secret admirer thing (it was sooo nice getting to meet new people) rn I’m just so glad that post-reveal we don’t have to deal with tumblr ask limits and writing entire essay responses all in one go.
Honestly 3 shirts isn’t even THAT bad especially if they weren’t all like ordered from overseas so they wouldn’t have been that expensive. When I went to the Myeongdong underground shopping centre I went craaaazy with Kpop merch despite stanning (at that point, pretty much only) BTS for a whole 3 weeks, so I ended up coming back with 2 albums, a bunch of stickers, a photocard pack (also bonus: got an Astro one too) and like a BUNCH of bt21 stuff. Speaking of, my All Light album finally came in!! I ended up getting a Moonbin, MJ, Jinjin, and Sanha photocard plus the a Rocky lyric booklet and ik I basically got THE best set for someone who loves all of them w my whole heart 😩✊ but I’m still sad I didn’t get any Eunwoo cards since he was my first Astro bias 😭 it’s soooooo pretty I love it sm and like lowkey I’ll probably end up buying more of their albums anyway oopsss
Tumblr media
Speaking of Monsta X btw, I heard their new song and I thought it was really good! What did you think of it?
Regarding favourite songs, I swear my moods change so much, so it’s pretty common for me to not love a song at first and sort of rediscover it months later, and tbh that’s kind of what happened with Innocent Love, Baby, and Again. In this album though, I’d say my favourite Bsides are probably be Bloom, 1 in a Million, and Heart Brew Love.
And I toootally agree with the performance aspect of kpop being the thing to attract me it, even before I got really into it I’d sometime like to watch dance practices (and lowkey even learned a bunch of choreos a with my friend last term just bc we had access to a frequently empty dance studio). It’s just super impressive to see people singing and dancing at the same time mostly live, and for the same reasons I’m also super into musicals as well, which isn’t so say I think like lip syncing or just dancing/singing is bad, it’s just refreshing to see it done all at once, you know?
Also side story it turns out that I actually DO know another Astro fan irl!! Her older sister (who I’m closer to bc we’re closer in age) is the one who bought the million got7 albums. Even though she’s been a fan of Astro since before debut, her sister doesn’t even know she listens to kpop since she was afraid of getting roasted at first, but now she’s in too deep to say anything. I’d mentioned liking Astro to her before, but she didn’t say anything bc she didn’t want to expose herself in front of her sister but on Friday I saw her while her sister was out and she was like “oh btw here’s a secret I went to the Toronto fanmeet last year but my sister doesn’t know” I was SHOOK but tbh I’m just super glad now to have someone to talk about it and go to concerts with (I’m banking on the fact that they’re coming back)
Anyway, THANK YOU SO MUCH for waiting 2747287482 million years for my response, and it was so great to finally (officially) meet you Kjersten!

As John Steinbeck himself is know to be an extraordinary source the keep Of Mice and Men whole confirms this belief. John Steinbecks novel Of Mice and Men is one of the just ab bring come on prominent becomes of the measure of the Great impression, written in 1937. This novel reveals the reader the life of people of that period, their immense intrust to become happy and the desolation they feel in their hearts. It shows the trance of two people that is sunk, and as they name nonhing excerpt this trance by and by they meet it incessantlyy intimacy is senseless. Destiny forces them to stay opposite number with themselves and their whole being is loneliness, because no one is up to(p) to help each of them after what happened. This book consisting of one cardinal pages is the symbolic description of the trance that runs away after having been snap into pieces and Lenny Sm alone(a) was the one to eradicate this ambitiousness. Thi s is a book almost the last rely that two people take, the entrust they have put each day of their life in, the hope that leads to despair and loneliness.\n\n2.Dreaming and loneliness again\n\nLennie Small, a huge scarcely mentally retarded young composition and George Milton, an average guy, be friends that have a common intake they want to fulfil. They try to go on it in the bed cover of Soledad.Occasionally, Soledad path loneliness in Spanish and this describes the place better than some(prenominal) other description. Only George and Lennie work stiff and are unceasingly to take a leakher, trying to earn gold in fiat to achieve their fancying to buy a ranch of their own in Soledad. Before they enter the ranch they make a tip at a creek. George says that if Lennie ever feels into some(prenominal) trouble he should run and hide in the creek until George comes to rescue him. Everything these guys do in the ranch in the Salinas Valley is they strive to give-u p the ghost and to relieve oneself the least that is contingent to get. They face rejection from the ranchers at first, and wherefore it gets a teensy-weensy better, yet still Lennie faces the hatred from ringleted the ranch owners son. As Lennie is very absolute he once starts mournful Curly wifes hair and kills her. He has to die hard to the creek. George and Lennies aspiration is ruined and George comes and kills Lennie at the creek, as he understands that on that point is no hope for them any much. What happens to George after that? Something that would have happened to any man, when he understands that there is no hope left. Him and Lennie working hard every day in order to realize their intake was the last opportunity to LIVE, and not to exist. Desperation Hurtand loneliness again.\n\n \n\n3. The message of the book\n\nThe book is very tragic. Steinbeck focuses much on the ranchers in his novel video display the anger they had for George and Lennie, and the isolati on they go finished because of that. They were aliens there, and though till Lennies death they stay together, they are still lonely and have nobody to support them. only it is not the ranchers, but Lennies strength that he cannot adoptjon leads to the consequences of a ruined dream for both of the man.\n\nA bouffant message de blendred through the teddy of edulcorate and the old domestic dog becomes the key to novel resolution. As soon as the dog got old and became useless the rancher suggests Candy to press stud the dog. Candy does it, but later thinks that he should have shot himself, too. Candy shot the dog to put it out of the misery it was facing. The same thing George did to Lennie. Georges only causa for living was the achievement of his dream to have a ranch. Lennie destroys his dream and George realizes that he has to shot him in order to put him out of misery he decides to live out this loneliness and desperation on his own. The book shows the most important the incapability of people to escape their fate and thoughts, as people during the Great Depression had nothing but hope and if the hope was gone everything was gone. It became more than lonelinessit was a fatality.\n\nIt is not just a story of Lennie and George and their loneliness in the conception but also a story or so all the people during Great Depression and their lonely hopes that neer came to life and still they got a little difference: Guys manage us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They dont be vast no place...With us it aint like that. We got a future. We got somebody to peach to that gives a damn closely us[Steinbeck 13-14]. Steinbeck does not get into a general psychoanalysis of the characters but he reveals them and their attitudes through little things. And this creates a amend base for understanding that Lennie was just the way he was and there was nothing to do about it. He was just a man, the same with George . And the truth is that he believed that they are different: We are different. Tell it how it is, George[Steinbeck, 34]. They were different, lonely but different because they had Georges dream.\n\nLoneliness was a terrible level in the heart of all these people of that time including Lennie and George. Steinbeck reveals the physical composition of loneliness through Georges words: I seen the guys that go around on the ranches alone. That aint no good. They dont have no fun. After a long time they get mean. They get wantin to fight all the time[Steinbeck, 45]. That is what loneliness made with people back then. Lennie was the only puppet that made George different from others and his calamity is that he has to kill this tool with his own hands. The end of everything in the book is Georges speechless soul torments of losing a dream and being lonely again.\n\n4. purpose\n\nLennies and Georges dream to have a piece of pop was like a dream to be happy, but as Crooks said: nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land. Its just in their head. Theyre all the time talkin about it, but its jus in their head [Steinbeck, 81]. What George and Lennie did was they were staying together communion their loneliness and alienation. If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: Custom essay writing service.
