Wreck-it Ralph fanfic (remastered from my 2019 fic “The Right Thing”) Roadblasters Never Happened AU Words: 7784 Characters: Turbo, Make-it Mavis, Surge Protector, Maribo (OC of NijiMarii), Fix it Felix, Dr. Mario CW: Drug abuse, police brutality, near-death experience, hospital setting Summary:  The Surge Protector discovers that being the only resident security guard in the arcade places responsibilities on his shoulders that he is greatly unqualified to handle, as his intervention in a situation quite nearly kills Make-it Mavis, who had just gone a little too hard on the substances. Turbo stays by her side in the hospital, and is overcome with an array of unflattering emotions as she wakes.
Surge saved a life.
Objectively, that much was true. A sprite was in danger, and had he not rushed in to protect her, she would most likely be dead. He protected her. That was his job. That was his name. Surge Protector .
And yet, by protecting one sprite... he might have killed another.
He tried his best to think through the toiling black smoke in his mind as he walked down the hospital halls. Dr. Mario’s was actually fairly quiet that evening, the only sounds being soft beeping, muffled conversation between volunteer staff, and the echo of his own shoes clopping against the floor. Part of him wished for more hustle and bustle, if only to coax him out of his own head, to draw his attention to smaller, trivial matters. The enormity of the situation put a terrible weight in his body, far heavier than should have been possible for a being made of crackling light.
Until that point, his job had been tedious, thankless, and hard to juggle completely on his own, but it had been manageable. Monitoring and enforcing game security, herding rowdy sprites away from trouble, occasionally locking up a drunk sprite for the night — this much, he felt perfectly suited to handle. But what happened tonight... should not have been handled by a Surge Protector.
Who should have handled it, he could not have said. Just not him. That ... was not his job. He just happened to be there, and he acted without thinking, and that snap decision might have cost someone their life.

— TAKE CARE OF ME
pairing(s) - concerned!joel miller x injured!female reader
word count - 798
warnings - mentions of gore, swearing, mentions of undressing.
proofread? - yes
note from author - darlin’ 😩
summary - you get injured on patrol, coming home to your boyfriend - he’s angry and concerned.
Tumblr media
You come home from patrol while your boyfriend Joel, sits reading a book about wood carving. Something Ellie had bought him for his birthday. He hears the door and gets up to greet you.
“Hey darlin’, how did-“ But he stopped, mid sentence seeing a tear in your jacket and some blood dripping. His face darkened. “Who the hell hurt you?”
You closed the door with a shake of your head. “I’m fine, really it’s-“ You winced. “It’s not that bad.”
“Don’t bullshit me. I know when yer hurt. What happened?” He grabs your jacket with a firm grasp and starts to undo the buttons so he can examine you.
You protested against him. “It’s really not that bad, Joel. I promise-“ But when he removed your jacket, you both saw the shirt soaked with blood.
He froze as he saw your crimson stained shirt. The sight of your blood made it difficult to keep him calm. “What the hell happened?” His tone was a bit desperate and fearful.
You sighed as Joel moved you to the couch. “Maria and I got cornered by some hunters, we took them out but -“ You paused looking at him, you knew he was mad that you got hurt. “Really - it’s not that bad, I’ve had worse…”
“I don’t care if you’ve had worse. Yer still hurt an-“ He stopped himself before he finished his sentence. He realized how angry he was. “What'd Maria do? She hurt?” He asked.
“She’s fine, maybe a few bruises from being in close quarters. I’m sure she’s with Tommy.”
He sighed again, but this time it was a sigh of relief - he knew Tommy was going to have the same reaction to Maria, as Joel had to you. “Just lemme take a look…”
You removed your shirt and tried not to wince at the pain of moving. He started to stop the bleeding and clean out the wound. He wasn’t being very gentle, more so because he was frustrated and worried about you.
You gritted your teeth at the pain and the sting of him cleaning your bullet graze. “Fuck- do you think you can be more gentle?” You were in pain from the wound so, it affected your patience.
He grumbled at your comment but continued with his task. He was careful about not being too rough but, he was obviously annoyed too. “Sorry darlin’.” He mumbled, his tone showing some remorse. It took him several minutes to treat your wound before finally, bandaging it. He moved his hand to feel your forehead. “You’ve gota’ fever.”
You nodded and grumbled gently, holding the side that was now bandaged - still in your bra. You shivered now. The fever was probably just a sign of fighting off the shock. It was too early to have an infection. “It’s fine…”
“No, it’s not.” He looked at you, seeming more worried than annoyed now. “You’ve gotta fever, you were jus’ shot - you need rest.” He protested.
“I wish you took this good care of yourself when you got hurt.” You retorted as you stood to go upstairs and lie down.
His eyebrows furrowed slightly as he helped you up the stairs and into your shared bedroom. That was a low-blow, but it was true. When he was in his most dire situations and got hurt, he didn’t let anyone worry about him. He simply patched himself up and went on without a complaint. “Yeah, I know yer right.”
You let out a soft chuckle as you laid down. “Are you just agreeing with me because I was shot?”
“Pretty much.” He said with a smirk. He sat on the edge of the bed and started to brush your hair back. “Can I ask you somethin'?” He seemed slightly worried now.
You nodded gently, furrowing your eyebrows at his question. “Yeah Joel, of course.”
He took a deep breath. “Promise me,” he spoke softly and paused for a moment. “Promise me that you’ll do yer absolute best to stay safe…”
Your expression softened and you moved to caress his cheek gently - even though you were pained when you moved. “I’ll be careful if you’re careful.” You agreed softly.
A small smile spread across Joel’s face. “You’ve gotta’ deal darlin’.” He placed his forehead against yours for a moment before kissing your forehead. “Get some rest. You’ve been throu' alot today.”
You returned a smile to him before shifting down in the bed - slowly, as if not to cause more pain to yourself. “Goodnight…” You mumbled, as tiredness took over your body. You knew you needed your sleep for recovery.
As you fell asleep, Joel wondered - if you’d ever realize how much he wanted you to take care of him, too.

Do you think any of the compilation of FF7 enhances the original game?
With full disclosure: I've never played any of them. I've only heard about them.
Dirge of Cerberus came out before I had a PS2, and by the time I had a PS2, it already had a pretty dire reputation. I've never had a PSP, so Crisis Core was right out (until the recent HD remaster, I suppose).
The only Compilation material I have first-hand experience with is Advent Children, and I hate Advent Children.
There's nothing stopping me from looking at the games now, I suppose. I've had ISOs downloaded for Dirge and Crisis Core for literal years now, it's just a case of the "never got around to it"s. Came closer to starting Crisis Core more than a couple times over the years, though.
Generally, I think these materials are to be feared, and hearing they might be incorporating elements from them into episodes of Final Fantasy VII Remake has me scared to death. I don't want Angeal or Gackt Genesis to be canonical.
Much like going back to Shadow the Hedgehog and injecting this Alien Blood Pact into his origin after the fact, going back and injecting all this new lore about SOLDIERs being winged Angeals angels muddies so much of the water around why Sephiroth is iconic. At best, it's going back to the well and saying "You like Sephiroth? We have more Sephiroths! We have a Sephiroth played by Japan's ultimate real-life bishonen hot guy!"
Don't explain things that don't need to be explained. It's a top ten rule of storytelling. It's okay. You don't have to shine a light on every single corner and crevice of a world. You're not a deep sea explorer, you're just trying to tell one really good story. And even if you somehow manage to pull that off, future stories can and will ruin your One Good Story if you tell them badly enough.
That being said I know more about why to be afraid of Crisis Core's prequel lore expansion than I do about Dirge of Cerberus. I basically have no idea what Dirge of Cerberus is about outside of the fact it might involve the Turks? And the controls are bad? No idea.
But generally I do not like or want them. Maybe if I actually play Crisis Core I'd warm up to it more, but from the outside it looks like it also contributes to the general feeling that after Final Fantasy VII came out, nobody really understood what those characters were and everybody got flanderized in some really weird, annoying directions.
Like, the common one is that in the supplemental material around Advent Children, Barret wants to use mako energy from the Shinra power plants to solve that movie's toothless pandemic, and when he's told he can't do that, he invests in becoming an oil baron instead. Can you believe that? The leader of an eco-terrorism sleeper cell, whose primary goal is saving the planet, wants to use the very tools that harmed the planet and others that will further harm the planet.
There's comic irony, and then there's just character assassination.
They are bad additions.

I was tagged by @thesquidkid to share first ten songs tha come up on shuffle in my Spotify on repeat playlist
I will preface this by saying that I don't always use Spotify when I feel like listening to music, so this might not be an accurate depiction of my actual faves, but here we go:
Some good old childhood faves, nothing surprising here, I do run on coffee and nostalgia only
And this is usually actually on repeat. Once is never enough ❤️
I am indeed a child of the 90s and you can try and pry the cheesy heartbreaking rock ballads out of my cold dead hands
I was actually surprised to find it there, not gonna lie. But always a good listen ✨
Ahh, RHCP!! 🥰 Man, I do have good tastes in music lmao
Ok this is strange, because I... don't actually listen to this song lol must have been in a lot in the daily mixes and I simply... didn't skip it
I don't think I need to say anything about this song. And if you think I do, just go listen to it. You're welcome.
I know, ok? But this is an evergreen. Let's all feel our feels like it's 2003 again
I know it's difficult to believe it, given the facts, but I can assure you I do listen to music recorded after 2005. I do. But maybe it's not as good as the classics lmao it's not my fault!
Fun fact, I don't really have a compelling reason, but if I had to choose one artist to represent teen malex, I would choose old school Raf. I just vibe with it, I don't know how to explain it. I just think it would be a great soundtrack.
And, bonus, because I don't think the Dire Straits one counts, the 11th:
Tumblr media
And because I think this is a good send-off 💕
I tag, with no pressure at all, @deansheart @tasyfa @revengeisalwaysanoption @youtubesweirduncles and whoever wants to do it. Tag me and I'll listen to your playlist!

ive seen you like silent hill, have you ever played rule of rose? they're similar in style and both are survival horror with a heavy psychological lean
I have, I adore Rule of Rose! I think I've even reblogged a few things for it on here, and I use some of the soundtrack for a playlist for one of my fics XDD I'm foreeeever bitter that it was banned here in the UK lol, it was completely undeserved (I had to get the copy I own from France)
It was definitely a game ahead of its time, I feel, and it's in dire need of a remaster (it's a great game, but the controls are garbage lol, I hate the combat). I wouldn't be surprised if we do actually see something done with it, what with how the survival horror genre is doing right now and how people have been begging for a rerelease for years.
Glad to hear from another person who knows of RoR! :D

Hello!!! I would love to request a Levi x Reader (your choice of how you want to write it if you do) where reader is in the scouts but on the medical side and has the polar opposite personality to Levi
anon- you were so polite i had to start on this ask immediately😭 i loved writing this, thank u for the idea!! as an aside, i read somewhere a long time ago that Levi's horse is named Nibbles. that may not be accurate, but it is to me, so i used it in this drabble<3.
summary: In which you are a specialized trauma nurse with the Survey Corps, on the receiving end of a particularly dreadful expedition. Levi returns home missing you dearly.
warnings: nongraphic references to violence/death, minor injury recovery
wc: ~1k
listened to while writing:
Tumblr media
Post-expedition is—at times—even worse than the days or weeks out on the expedition itself. Outside the Walls, the air is at the very least fresh, and the thrum of adrenaline is a constant in almost everyone; very few have to pause and account for the numbers they’ve lost so far, or the horrors they’ve witnessed. Once the Scouts re-enter the gates, fewer in number and clamoring with injured, it’s in the hands of the waiting medics to cushion the impact of another trek beyond the Walls.
For that, Levi has every right in the world to admire your unyielding optimism. It’s rare that he sustains injuries on the battlefield that require medical attention—if he yields to treatment at all—but this one was the exception. Just a nasty laceration, but this expedition was one of the shittier ones. Two-thirds of every Scout who left over a week ago, didn’t get to come back. The medbay has fewer patients compared to the norm as a result, and Levi needed to see you.
Though, if you’re too swamped with other patients, fine. The sight of you is enough. That stupidly joyful smile of yours reminds him that despite the cold stink of death outside the Walls, there’s always hope in this world; that he has something worth coming home to.
Plenty of nurses in medical garb scurrying around insist that Captain Levi deserves to be treated by only the most well-seasoned nurses, or even one of the few doctors they have on staff, but Levi asks for you specifically.
“You heard me,” he barks, but the bite normally heavy in Levi’s voice is lessened—by grief, by exhaustion, and by the filth and gore soaking him to his bones. “I’ll wait if I have to. Just bring her here when she gets the time.”
The nurse he speaks to is puzzled, but agrees and hurries elsewhere to reconcile the more dire casualties. While Levi waits, perched on the edge of one of dozens of medical-grade beds littered throughout the ward, he clutches his forearm. It’s been bandaged already—the worst of it is the dull throb of pain, but even that comes second to the heaviness Levi carries in his chest. He can still smell the stinking metal—the blood of his comrades. Some he managed to save, but never enough.
While only fifteen or so minutes pass him by before you’re informed that the Captain is waiting for you, to Levi it feels like an eternity. He sees your eyes light up at the sight of him, only for your jaw to drop, and your elation bleeding away to concern.
“Levi! Shit. It really was a bad turnout if you’re here," you fuss. "What happened out there? Tell me where it hurts."
Fuck, Levi can’t believe he missed your voice so terribly, and your habit of talking his ear off. Moisture pricks at his eyes, which he blinks away as you examine his injury.
“I’m…” Levi clears his throat. Unlike you, finding words and sorting his emotions is like pulling teeth. Strike out missing you terribly—Levi missed you like he missed breathing air. “..It’s fine. If you have other patients, go. Just wanted to come by.”
“Are you crazy?” Your smile is breezy, but nonetheless genuine. “My shift should’ve ended an hour ago. I got worried at the low numbers, whether you’d be..” Levi regards the blood outright soaked into your nurse garb—leaving it more ruby than plain white—before you go on. “..but I still held out hope. I’m so happy you’re home.”
Your last statement comes as more of a relieved sigh. Levi is glad too, but there’s not a chance you haven’t run yourself into the ground, anxiously running around to treat casualties like a dog with its own tail. It’s a wonder how you’re still so jovial despite the bags around your eyes; despite the frayed mess of your hair. Levi is overcome with the urge to smooth it down, but his hands are still filthy.
“You should rest,” Levi says instead, biting back a wince as you finish stitching his forearm. There’s a good chance it’ll scar.
You hush him, worrying your lip between your teeth as you bandage the wound, snug. All the while, Levi is basking in the pleasant scent of your perfume. You’re so warm, so alive, and that insurance would be enough to lull him into a much-needed doze—if it weren’t for the clamor of the medbay around you both.
When Levi finds himself next, you’re frowning, and his cloak has been undone and cast aside. You’re taking his pulse, palpating his head for injuries. He can’t find it within himself to object—I’m filthy, I’m soaked in blood, stop—and just watches you through a bleary, grateful gaze instead.
“You need to rest,” comes your heavenly voice, repeating his earlier suggestion. “I’ve never seen you so tired, honey.”
“Need t’ shower.” Levi’s voice is hoarse, flimsy. “Paperwork for those we lost.”
You disagree outright with a purse of your lips before Levi senses your palms at his face, cupping his cheeks. He grunts, eyes fluttering.
“I’ll clean you up—squeaky clean, hm? Paperwork tomorrow,” you reassure him. “If you can put up Nibbles and make it all the way here to wait for me, you can make it outside to wait a little longer, yeah?"
"...Yeah."
"Everything’s gonna be alright, Levi.”
Levi shudders in your embrace, as brief as it is; you’re mindful of how much it bothers him to be touched so soon after another tour of a hellish battlefield, but he finds the will to wrap his arms around you regardless.
He can’t refuse you either, not that Levi would ever dream of it.

scene four: tongues
one time someone asked me to say sorry.
'huh?' the asparagus clamped between my chopsticks began to slide towards the bottom of my lunch box, forgotten. i frowned. 'did i do something wrong?'
'no,' he said, laughing. 'i just want to hear how you pronounce it.'
'so i'm saying it wrong.'
'that's not what i mean.'
'then what do you mean?'
'i mean i'm curious.'
i stared at him. 'no.' i picked up my asparagus. he poked at his biscuits with his fork. time passed, birds sang overhead, snow fell outside the window.
'you know-' he started.
the asparagus on sundays sucks. on weekdays they roast it but on sundays they boil it in a huge pot of water in that grim, white-tiled kitchen that i've only gotten a few glimpses of and then it's a straight path to the metal pans that appear behind the glass when you step into the dining hall, hoping someone will betray your well-set expectations and for once, the 'fish' will be 'salted'. i didn't know why i'd asked for it to begin with. last week i hadn't. this week i had brought what i hoped would become a friend with me, though he was, by all accounts, still a stranger.
'what.'
'the way you say sorry feels kinda canadian to me,' he said thoughtfully. 'not justin bieber-canadian, but, like, old-fashioned canadian. see? like this.' he puckered his lips. 'sooh-ree.' he nodded to himself like he'd just accomplished an incredibly impressive feat. 'the way you emphasize the 'oooh' sound. no one says it like that here.'
when i was ten i had a weird phineas and ferb phase. we didn't have cable tv so i'd look up the episodes on youtube in splintered halves and thirds, watch whatever i could find in 240p and look up the plot synopsis for the bits i couldn't. perry the platypus was my favorite character at first, because he was turquoise (turquoise was my favorite color when i was ten) and he had a cool hat and he had a knack for appearing in places that one typically didn't expect a platypus to appear in, which both resonated with and annoyed me, but eventually i lost interest because perry the platypus didn't have a voice. he was a platypus, after all.
'huh.' there were still two spears of asparagus left in my box but i didn't feel like eating them anymore.
he leaned over the table, his eyes bright and searching, like a child's.
'am i right?'
when i was ten i sounded sort-of-american for a few months. i remember even my mom picked up on it after a while, commenting mildly over dinner that i was speaking differently wasn't i, i almost sounded like i did when i went to the international school, and i remember flushing with pride, choking on my rice, having to excuse myself to the bathroom immediately afterwards to hack it all up in the sink. after all, i'd been practising. if perry the platypus had had a voice, i would've practised his lines too. but he didn't. so i practised with the others. i hit pause and play and pause and play, repeating things out loud, sounding out the vowels, trying to nail each word to the wall on the other side of my room like i was holding a pistol in a gunfight, not my heart.
the first time i went outside in america we were in washington dc and my friend took me to target. it took everything in me to say thank you to the lady behind the counter. i don't know if she heard me.
am i right?
i shrugged. 'i dunno.'
'admit it,' he said smugly, which i thought was quite bold of him seeing how all i really wanted to do right then was punch a hole through the wooden floorboards and drop into the freezer section of the cafe below like a cannonball, killing myself and everyone in a fifteen-mile radius around me instantly. 'i got it right.'
there were a lot of things i could've said to him in that moment. i could've said i was born in texas nineteen years ago to parents from fifteen other parts of the world, or i could've told him about the dream i'd had last night where i was stuck in a supermarket and someone had ripped my vocal chords out but left every other part of me intact, or i could've told him about how there are between nine and ten thousand species of birds on earth and all of them are pretty cool, what do you think of birds, dude, what do you think of this country? did you know? most americans don't think they speak with an accent. to them the american accent is the default, is the way english should be spoken, is the thing they'll stick in the dictionary that the martians will discover thousands of years from now when humanity finally wipes itself out and the trees are left to retrieve their hands from their coffins. when you're american you're always right. the rest of us are deviations from the norm. aberrations. mistakes.
the first time i saw asparagus in america i was getting dinner in the dining hall and it was monday, so the asparagus was roasted, not boiled. 'can i get the asparagus?' i asked. the lady behind the counter looked at me for a moment, expressionless, then pointed at the stalks of green vegetables in the metal tray to her right. 'you mean the asparagus?' i nodded.
in the spring i took a class called intro to linguistics, taught by a kind, square-shaped man with round glasses and minecraft stans for kids who told us on the first day of class, his green beatles background flickering awkwardly behind him, that there is no such thing as bad english. i didn't believe him at first the way i am inclined not to believe anything i'm told without being slapped in the face with it a few times in times of dire need, but eventually i came around. 'i feel like every time i open my mouth i am standing on a big empty stage with a microphone in one hand and everyone is waiting for me to speak,' i wrote in my first assignment for that class. what i meant was: i am scared to death of being heard. what i meant was: i do not feel like a person here.
did you know? as far as we're aware, humans are the only species on this planet that uses words. we built this damn thing out of sawdust and sadness, pouring centuries of sound and sight and sensation into a system that's so fucked up, your only options are either to be born in it or to force your way in with a chainsaw. every day some guy in the youtube comments section of your favorite video, you know the vine where the kid smiles into the camera like she's just shaken hands with god and then points at the field of ducks behind her and goes, 'look at all those chickens!', every day some guy goes to that exact video and replies to some stranger's comment to let them know it's 'you're' not 'your'. every day someone derails a discussion about bitcoin on reddit with a well-placed apostrophe. every day someone laughs at a friend and says they sound a little old-fashioned, a little canadian, none of the kids say it like that anymore, you know? it's weird. you're weird.
so be weird. be a public riot. be that one guy who goes into the dining hall every day and mispronounces half the words on the board, because who the fuck learns how to pronounce asparagus in history class? english literature? i don't even LIKE asparagus. i'm just trying to eat my fucking vegetables, for fuck's sake. i'm just trying to make sure that every once in a while when i open my mouth and something climbs out, someone else catches it. like maybe one day it'll be something beautiful. like maybe one day it'll be a star.
and if you're ever trying to eat your fucking vegetables and someone tells you you're speaking funny, breathing funny, shaking your left leg under the table funny, and if ever you find yourself far from home and struggling to make the words look less like monsters and more like symbols for sadness and someone laughs at that, someone thinks your pain is amusing, then you know what? eat them too. and don't you even think of saying sorry.
::
in the remastered version of this scene he asks me am i right and i say no, you're a dick, and then i leave.

Peace was a privilege most couldn't afford, only the fortunate new what it was like to sleep in a nice warm bed at night, mind at ease while not having to sleep with one eye open. Not having to worry about being snuck upon and killed in their sleep. The fortunate knew what it was like to be surrounded by a glorious silence, the only noise around being that of the singing birds and chirping insects. The fortunate had the privilege of living in a peace and Tranquillity.
But the unfortunate? They were the brave souls fighting for that world peace the fortunate bathed in. They were the one's who spent night after night trying hard to get some sleep on the cold hard ground with a rifle in one hand and a prayer in the other, hoping that they wouldn't be slaughtered in their sleep like a helpless pig in a sty. The unfortunate tried using old lullabies their momma's sang to them when they was young just to erase the sound of gunfire and the cries of dying men out of their brains for at least a few minutes. But it never worked, nothing could bring the soldiers peace in a cruel world like the one they lived in. Perhaps that's what made them fight so hard, fighting for a world full of peace...
The unfortunate was the young auburn haired man who sat in the sand, brown eye's squinting do to the suns harsh light beating down on the soldiers. The said auburn haired soldier held a old pencil in his dirt covered hand, his brows netted in thought as he stared down at the piece of paper, until finally he slowly drags the pencil across it writing words of his bogus journey on this God forsaken island...
"who you writing to sledge? Is it A mystery woman back home or something?" the voice of his friend Sydney spoke, the blonde letting the ghost of a smirk dance across his face.
Eugene let's out a breathy laugh and shakes his head, "nah... Just figured I'd write my parents, ease momma's worrying a little bit" Eugene said lowly as he focused on his writing. Sydney nods in understanding, having known Eugene before the war.
A silence falls over the two, the silence foreign to Eugene considering it was a rarity on Peleliu Island. But of course the silence is broken by a face Eugene hasn't seen in days, his new found friend Snafu. Who gained a major concussion after a surprise visit from the japs. Eugene puts his pencil down with a relieved smile, Sydney standing up to greet the grinning man.
"shit, you look awful damn happy to have just gotten out of the med tent all the way back in the tree's" Sydney commented on the grin snafu was giving them.
"man if you saw what I opened my eyes up to then you would be walking out here with more then a grin" the dark haired man spoke with a smug smirk. "that nurse sure is a gorgeous woman, nice too but if you get on her nerves she ain't afraid of letting you have it man" he says while sitting down beside Eugene who chuckles.
"hell maybe I should twist my ankle and visit the med tent" Sydney jokes.
"you two are a handful" Eugene spoke amused at the men. Snafu lightly pats Eugene's shoulder.
"she's a angel sledge, the only damn beautiful thing out here on this damned island" Eugene picked his paper and pencil back up, not paying his friends words any mind... But soon he'd understand what the soldier was talking about.
Tumblr media
"we need more gauze!" a gruff voice yelled, the male nurse hovering over a soldier who had a bleeding wound on his left shoulder. The screaming of pure pain emitting from the soldier peirced your ears as you grabbed the gauze and ran over to the male nurse.
"this is our last roll! Use it carefully because I have a bad neck wound over here that's in dire need of coverage!" you frantically exclaimed, making sure the nurse understands the importance of saving the gauze.
"yes ma'am" he grunts out and began fixing the soldier up, who screams in pain. You rushed back over to the soldier with a neck wound, cleaning it as best you can with how much the soldier moved and cried in pain.
"don't you fucking touch it you bitch!" the soldier yells huskly, tears streaming down his dirt and blood covered face. You let out a sympathetic huff and delicately rinse the wound off, resulting in louder cries and insults. After that you placed a hand on one of his shoulders while the same male nurse as before hands you the gauze back hurriedly before attending another poor soldier.
"if you don't hold still sir this will only hurt worse!" you say scolding, yet voice as gentle as always. The man holds a tight grip on your wrist, the one you had placed on his shoulder. It was painful but you bared through it as you began to wrap his wound, curses and cries escaping through his chapped lips as you done so.
But you finally done it and soon the soldier released your wrist and began to snooze off. You sigh and look over the tent, everyone taken care of. It was a rare moment for you, a moment to were you could take a break, sit down and breathe. And that's exactly what you done. Sitting on a empty wooden crate you let out a deep breath, closing your eye's and taking in this moment of peace.
Until it was shattered by three voices yelling for help. You shot up faster then lightning, leaving the tent and outside into the suns relentless heat. That's when you spot one familiar soldier and a blond boy, both carrying a unconscious auburn haired man, his face burnt and shirt soaked in blood. You hoped it wasn't his own, for it was a lot of it.
"we need help! Please!" the blond rushed out, the familier dark haired man spots you with a relieved look before the concern takes over once more. You rush to their sides.
"take him inside Shelton! Take him to the same cot you was in, it's the only one available!" you ordered your former patient, he nods and him and the blond take the unconscious man inside.
You soon followed them and watch how the placed him on the cot. The blondes hands was shaking, a terrified look on his face. You stride over and look over the unconscious man, from the looks of it, his face was mildly burnt which would heal over time. But whenever you took his shirt off exposing a gash across his abdomen... You felt a wave of fear wash over you. This gash meant it was easy for him to gain a infection, and many soldiers died in this tent because of that....
"is he gonna be alright miss y/l/n?" the dark haired man asked, the one you knew as snafu from attending his concussion weeks ago. You and him spent late nights talking, by talking he flirted shamelessly while you scolded him for doing so.
"I can't predict the future Shelton, but I can do my best to help him" you say truthfully, quickly looking over the tent. The two other nurses were busy.... You quickly turned around to look at snafu. "I need you to get me some water, boil it for at least ten minutes! And you" you look at the blond, "try and open me that crate over there!" you point at the last of your medical supplies. The two nod and do as you say. You quickly grab your damp cloth, carefully cleaning the blood off his abdomen.
"it's open!" the man yelled. You look over at him with a little smile.
"I need the gauze, cotton pads and stitch kit out of it" you say, to which he complies and grabs everything you asked for. Once he hands them to you instantly open the stitch kit. Grabbing the needle from the box. "do you have a lighter on you?" you ask the soldier. He starts going through his pockets and finds a box of matches.
"will these work?" he asks, causing you to nod and take them. Now all you needed was snafu to get you your water.
After a while snafu returned with the water, hurriedly handing the little kettle of water to you. You take it and set it down on the ground beside you. You was currently on your knees beside the unconscious man, getting a better look of his wound. You take the kettle and slowly dip a cotton pad in the water, cleaning the dirt and blood off his gash. After that you take the matches and lit one up, holding the flame to the needle.
"snafu hold him down, he'll most likely wake up during this process and I can't stitch him up while he's thrashing around" you muttered while focusing on the needle. You blow the match out and start fixing the stitching process.
Snafu and the blond both hold the man down, snafu holding his shoulders while the blond hold his legs. You take in a deep breath and placed your hand on his abdomen, right above the wound. Then you carefully stick the needle in his flesh and start sewing up the wound. And like you predicted, a pained yell was heard from the man after you was halfway through stitching him up. The sudden movement of the poor soldier squirming around makes you poke the needle into your finger tip. But it didn't bother you much as you was souly focused on the man's stitches.
"hold him!" you scold the two soldiers holding him as you try and move faster. A broken yell from the auburn haired man ringing through the tent. A cry soon followed. But just when you finished stitching him up he passed out once more. You stand up with a sigh and wipe the blood from your hands. Grabbing the cotton pad and gauze to cover the wound.
"you both can leave, I appreciate you're help" you said, looking at the men. Snafu looks at the auburn haired soldier before nodding his head.
"thank you miss y/l/n...." he murmured before leaving the tent, the blond following him out. You look down at the unconscious man and sigh. He had soft facial features, his nose sharp yet cute... This man was young, probably the same age as yourself. Much to young to see the things war played out for a man. You pushed a strand of hair off his sweat covered forehead. He was a handsome man, a beautiful contrast to this horrid island.
Tumblr media
The night fell before you knew it, the sound of insects enough to take your mind away from where you were, humming a small tune as you washed any remaining blood from your hands. The insects heard outside reminded you of home, all those nights in the summer you spent outside as a kid playing before it got to dark out.
Home... Somewhere you long to be. But then again you wouldn't be able to live with yourself knowing there was brave souls fighting for the world while you sat at home doing nothing. That's why you volunteered to be a nurse, helping soldiers recover from horrible accidents. Although your mother hated the thought of you being out here, your father supported your decision all the way.
You rid your mind of thoughts of home, knowing it would only make your time here longer. So you gently place your hand against the auburn haired soldiers forehead feeling for any signs of a fever. Luckily he felt fine. Just when you went to move your hand the man's eye's fluttered open, the coffee colored orbs flickering across your face. You stopped humming the song you was humming and give him a little smile.
"am I dead?" he asks, voice low as his southern drawl breaks the sound of insects. "I have to be... I mean this ain't exactly what I imagined heaven would look like but the angels are far more prettier than I thought... At least this one is" he muttered, looking up at you. You felt a blush faintly paint your cheeks as you let out a little chuckle at the man. His compliment making your heart do a flip.
"you aren't dead soldier, just a bit beaten up is all..." you replied with a smile. The man let's a little grin tug at his lips.
"that explains the immense pain I'm feeling" he grunts while trying to move, but you placed a hand on his shoulder and give him a stern look.
"don't even try to move soldier, you'll tear you're stitches" you watch how he let's out a little huff.
"my names Eugene" he spoke quietly, you sit on the end of the cot beside him and give him a soft smile.
"I'm y/n... It's nice to meet you Eugene" you murmur while looking over his burns. They had to be painful. Eugene smiles a small smile before his eye's land on the harsh bruise that had formed on your wrist from earlier today.
"how'd you get that?" he questioned with furrowed brows, his eyes flickering up from the bruise and landing on your y/e/c eye's.
You simply shrug and look at the bruise, "a soldier earlier today... He didn't mean to actually, he was in pain and I was trying to clean his wound" you explained. Eugene nods in understanding while letting a little sigh escape his chapped lips.
"it must be hard dealing with a bunch of rough patients, especially since... Y'know, the only girl out here - well not girl - woman! Because you're a woman..." he rambled nervously, his cheeks turning a bright shade of pink. You giggle at him and shake your head, finding his rambling adorable.
Adorable? Jesus christ y/n get your shit together, you can't be finding this man adorable. You couldn't fall in love... Because then you would be distracted and that would lead to you screwing up work and that would result in serious consequences....
You banished those thoughts quickly and give Eugene a soft smile, "it's not as rough as you'd think, most men listen to me and the ones who don't? Let's just say they quickly learn how to" you say with a grin. Eugene chuckles, his amusement slowly turnes into a coughing fit though. You are fast to grab a canteen full of water and hold it by his mouth, your free hand cupping his jaw as you held the canteen by his mouth letting him drink. He gulps the water down until finally he finishes. But as you pull the canteen away, ready to remove your hand from his face. He softly places his hand over yours, keeping it we're it was, his hand sending a warmth and comfort through you that you didn't want to end. You furrowed your brows in confusion, not that you was complaining about his actions. Like said before he was a handsome man, but you didn't want to fall in love during the middle of war.
"what are you doing Eugene?" you whisper, but he doesn't respond. He closed his eye's and leans into your touch. It caused your heart to melt at the sight, you was already falling....
"that song you was humming earlier... Will you sing it to me?" he asks so softly that you couldn't deny the man. You nod and run your thumb over his soft skin. You wasn't one for singing for people though, you was naturally a shy person but for some reason, you didn't feel as shy around this man.
" sometimes I wonder why I spend... My lonely nights.... Dreaming of a song" you started singing stardust, the Tommy dorsey song your mother listened to every day, the melody one you couldn't forget.
He slowly falls asleep, a small smile on his face as you lull him to sleep. And that's how you spent your night, singing to the soldier you found yourself falling for....

I finished Armor Hunter Mellowlink recently, so as of today I have watched every Votoms anime and its spin offs.
This OVA was pretty cool, nice little side story separate to Chirico and his journey. Here’s hoping the upcoming Blu Ray Box gets ripped soon because this show is in dire need of a remastering.

2021 Summer Painting Challenge: July 17
July 17th? Geeze, what happened? I take a break for like a weekend and next thing I know more than half the month is gone! What happened?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, yeah. Bideo James.
I mean, it wasn't just that, I had a fair bit of house work and work work to catch up on, and my AC broke which left me largely unmotivated to do anything at all until I could replace it, but yeah. What free time I've had so far this month has gone to these two games, one a remaster of a game I loved from the PS1 era, and the other a moody atmospheric 2d platforming metroidvania with a soulsesque feel.
Sadly, Legend of Mana doesn't really hold up. Oh, sure, it still looks good - once you get over the janky mismatch of the clearly-designed-for-CRT pixel art sprites with the crisp, high def, water-color style background art. And the remastered music sounds great. But the combat gameplay was pretty bad by the standards of its own day, and nowadays it's just... I'm sorry, past me, but it's just aweful and absolutely brings down the rest of the experience.
Like, yeah, there's so much to do, so many systems to engage with between skills and special attacks and smithing and pets and spell crafting and robots, and absolutely none of it matters because the core combat system it's all layered on top of, with its sludge-like movement and extremely passive enemies, just doesn't give you any reason to engage with any of it. There's an option in the remaster to turn off the enemy battles altogether, but while the game's various story paths aren't terrible for action rpgs of its era, they're not strong enough to be an entire game in themselves. Such a shame, really. I was hopeing it would be something I could recommend to @retphienix, but while I'd love to hear his thoughts on it, I just can't recommend it as worth the time investment, despite how lovely everything /other/ than the gameplay is.
Ender Lilies on the other hand is actually pretty solid, and it did draw me in enough to 100% it. It's no Hollow Knight, IMO, but for fans of the genre it's absolutely worth a deep dive while you're waiting for Silksong. I'd say it's more on the Castlevania side than the Metroid side, but I honestly haven't played enough Castlevania games to say that with confidence. I do wish it was eventually a bit more clear on some basic details of the premise. Unless I'm mistaken, the game never really explains the 'Rain of Death' that is a core aspect of the premise. Like, does the rain cause the blight? Spread it? Activate it? The blight itself is emanating from the abyss deep underground, how does it get into the clouds to rain down from above? But whatever, the game's more about its atmosphere and tone and themes and gameplay and challenge, and those are all more than strong enough to make up for a bit of murkiness in the narrative, which is pretty common in souls and souls-inspired games regardless.
....
So, anyway. Yeah. With my new AC in place and video game fugue passing, where am I with the Summer Painting Challenge? IIRC my pledge for the month was:
Commission Raven Guard Rhino
10 Zombies
10 Dire Wolves
I had also intended to get some of those sidequest tutorials left over from June done this month, but now it's going to be a bit of a struggle just to finish my relatively modest pledge for July. Not as much of a struggle as the June pledge was, but still. The rhino definitely needs to come first - I was supposed to make commission progress along with the pledge last month and that just didn't happen. The last batch I finished for that commission was so brutally overdue that it's a wonder I can show my face in public. A bit of work yesterday leaves progress here:
Tumblr media
A pretty decent start on the internals, which I want to get painted before assembly. The goal for today is to finish the internal painting and basic chasis assembly, as well as assembly & texture painting on the dire wolves and zombies. Goal for the weekend is to finish painting on the rhino chasis - leaving aside accessories like the doors & pintle guns.
The finished product should be something akin to the previous rhino I did for the same commission:
Tumblr media
The new one one won't have the same round side doors & fancy modeled front plate, but needs to hit about the same painting quality & style.

How I would Make the Next Mass Effect Game
If I was creating the next ME game, I would place it after the trilogy.  Bioware needs a successful game to continue the franchise, maybe to continue the company, and Andromeda was a poor performer commercially.  It seems unwise to put everything into a new Andromeda game.  Likewise, I think going backward in time in the Milky Way, for example the First Contact War, is restrictive and kind of boring.  There’s a limit to the choices, a forgone conclusion in the outcome, and difficulty in incorporating a variety of alien species into a group of companions.  The best way forward is, well . . . forward.
I know many people think with the three expansive ending, it’s not possible to continue in the Milky Way.  I actually think it’s doable.  For the destroy ending, that’s simple enough.  The control ending could be very similar.  The reapers helped rebuild and have returned to dark space under Shepard’s control.  The destroy ending could have more stunted rebuilding compared to control.  The geth would need to play a limited or absent role in the game to accommodate the destroy ending and choices made on Rannoch.  Likewise, the quarians as a collective group would need to have a limited role in case the geth were chosen.
When it comes to the synthesis ending, I'd give everything green lines or let the lines fluoresce under certain activating circumstances.  There could be references to the mechanical and organic melding and a few situations that rely on machine knowledge.  I think it’s doable to accommodate all the endings with effortful, but somewhat minimal, tinkering.
Since Bioware needs to knock the ball out of the park for this game, I would incorporate character cameos from the trilogy.  If the new game is set ten years after the war, the characters should be alive and the galaxy has had some time to recover.  The game could have Shepard appear, if alive, in a capacity similar to Hawke in Dragon Age: Inquisition.  Shepard could be higher up in Alliance rank, serving in a political capacity, or perhaps retired.  They could appear as a consultant or be someone the main character interacts with throughout the game.
The love interest, if there is one, could appear with Shepard at one point or just be referred to off screen.  By presenting Shepard living on happily with their LI, the game would pay fan service and provide the happy ending many fans want for their Shepard.  People invested in their Shepard and in the trilogy will definitely appreciate the closer and love seeing their iconic character again.  It would be a smart move.  I think it’s likely many fans choose that ending so their Shepard lives, but if they chose a different ending, then Shepard can be referred to in the past tense or as having left to dark space.  A newly created character can stand in for a living Shepard, like how Bioware always accomodated dead characters.
Being set only ten years after the war, most of the characters who survived the trilogy should still be alive.  They could make cameo appearances throughout the game and be replaced with new characters if dead.  This would provide nostalgic anticipation all the way through the game as missions allow the player to run into characters from the trilogy.
This scenario would allow a new avatar main character who is legitimately a N7.  The character could be elevated to Spectre or some new construct that feels special.  As for the main quest, it would need to be something expansive to utilize the familiar and beloved locations throughout the galaxy.  Perhaps the threat is something to do with leviathan, Protheans, or dark energy.  Like the OT, where the mission is sweeping and dire, the player could recapture the significance they felt as Shepard.
There would be a lot of fan satisfaction in providing closure to the trilogy.  You see what happened to Shepard and their companions.  You see what happened to the galaxy.  Are the krogan prospering because Shepard cured the genophage, or are they struggling because Shepard gave a fake cure?  Are the geth or the quarian alive?  Based on the ending you chose, how did it affect the rebuilding and where society is now? There's a lot of satisfaction in seeing the impact of previous choices.
In conclusion, if I was Bioware, I would set the next game 10 years after the original trilogy.  I would have the main character be a N7 saving the galaxy from some form of disaster.  Shepard would take a consulting role if alive.  Characters from the trilogy would make cameos throughout the game’s missions.  There would need to be some tweaks based on ending, but destroy and control don’t need to be very different, if the reapers have helped rebuild and now returned to dark space.  The synthesis ending is more of a challenge but could be accomplished by adding details, visually and within the storyline, that support an organic/machine merger.
I think this type of game would lead to the best commercial success, keeping continuity with what made the trilogy successful, while also playing fan service by providing a nostalgic closure.  The ME trilogy remaster wouldn't just revive interest in the ME franchise, it creates renewed interest in Shepard and their story specifically. Anyone who loves the trilogy would be immediately interested and invested in the new gamd, and if done well, there’s a high chance it would be highly satisfying and positively embraced by fans.

hi amanda!! this isn't rp related, so feel free to ignore it if it's not the kind of thing you want to answer, but i recently got into pc gaming and i was wondering if you had any recs for cute and/or fun games that you've enjoyed!! i've basically only every played on nintendo systems so i'm in dire need of suggestions asdfvsdgb tysm i hope you have a wonderful day <3
hey  friend  🥰  i  don’t  mind  answering  non  rp  related  stuff  !!  and  as  some  who  loves  gaming  +  also  loves  cute  games ,  you’ve  come  to  the  right  person  :’)
sooooooo  i’m  going  to  start  off  with  a  fave  of  mine:  story  of  seasons !!  it’s  an  updated  version  of  harvest  moon  ( idk  if  you  know  that  game? ) .  it’s  basically  a  farming  +  life  sim ,  you  can  grow  crops  and  buy  farm  animals  and  fall  in  love  +  befriend  people  in  the  town .  the  music  is  so  nice  as  well  but  idk  if  that’s  just  because  i  played  harvest  moon  constantly  so  it’s  nostalgic  for  me  DFGHJK
next ,  i’d  recommend  stardew  valley  which  .....  again  is  a  farming  +  life  sim .   i’d  say  there’s  more  story-wise  in  stardew  valley  and  more  of  a  reason  to  do  objectives  ( i  won’t  spoil  what  or  why but  it’s  explained  at  the  beginning  of  the  game ).  it’s  a  very  chill  +  cute  game .
i’d  highly  recommend  the  life  is  strange  franchise !!  it’s  one  of  my  all-time  favourites  and  it’s  also  choice  based  which  means ,  after  your  first  playthrough ,  you  can  go  back  and  pick  different  choices  and  see  how  it  effects  the  game  and  characters .  there’s  currently  3  games  +  a  little  side  game  ( which  is  sO  cute . if  nothing  else ,  i’d  say  play  that  one  LMAO  )
house  party  is  also  fun  and  also  really.......  unique .  i  don’t  even  know  how  to  explain  it  tbh  LMDFJGH  basically  you’re  at  a  house  party  and  there’s  different  questlines  you  can  do  and  you  can  also  just  fuck  around  but  do  be  warned  that  there’s  adult  themes  in  this  game !  though ,  there’s  also  an  option  to  censor  it .
my  main  genres  are  cute + wholesome ,  choice  based  and  horror ....  so  these  next  few  suggestions  are  going  to  be  less  on  the  cute  side  +  more  on  the  fun  side !
hi  sorry ,  it’s  getting  kinda  long  so  i’m  going  to  continue  under  here
the  walking  dead  game  franchise  is ,  once  again ,  one  of  my  absolute  favourites .  it’s  a  choice  based  zombie  apocalypse  game  and  it’s  just  ...  chefs  kiss ,  truly .  there’s  also  a  remastered  version  that’s  actually  on  sale  right  now ,  that  includes  all  the  episodes  +  seasons  but  it  is  pricey .
a  few  longer  choice  based , story  driven games  i  looooove  are:  detroit  become  human ,  heavy  rain  and  beyond  two  souls .  i’m  genuinely  attached  to  these  games  +  the  characters  and  what’s  different  about  these  games  is  the  decisions  you  make  REALLY  impact  your  surroundings  ( unlike  the  others  where  you  basically  get  to  the  same  ending  no  matter  what  you  pick )
you  know ,  i  never  realized  that  i  only  really  play  choice  based  games  until  now  DFKSGDFKJGH  but  yeah ,  hopefully  you  find  something  you  enjoy  within  this  little  list  !!  sorry  they  all  cost  money  btw  and  also  sorry  that  most  of  them  are  on  steam ,  i  thought  i’d  link  to  the  ones  i  have .
i’ll  end  this  with  a  few  honourable  mentions  ~  i  hope you  are  having  a  lovely  day  as  well  :-)
sims 3
the elder scrolls v: skyrim
planet zoo  ( this  is  the  first  tycoon  game  i  ever  played  and  is  also  the  game  that  showed  me  i  SUCK!!  at  tycoon  games  DFKGH  but  it  has  really  cute  animals )
