Because I'm particularly annoyed: To everyone within the LGBT+ and ships involving them circles, get this through your goddamn head. RWBY the "little" anime-inspired web show that:

subverts sexist and homophobic tropes from that inspiration

has a deep & mature story

respects its femme characters

that has had morons saying it was baiting for years

has a married wlw couple w/ child; 2 confirmed lesbian characters; 2 mlm characters in the novels; a bi MC (VA'd by a bi femme)/a sapphic MC (VA'd by an "on the spectrum" femme)/ and together a wlw MC pair; a trans character that isn't a joke

THAT show DELIVERED one of the most normalized via being treated no different to its hetero sibling ships, being within a non-world of gay, and not being spotlighted; well-developed; well-earned; 10 year steady slowburned; and mature CANON wlw romances around. That including having a bi character that feels bi not a lesbian character w/ a bi sticker slapped on cause not only does she have guys w/ feelings towards her as well as a former male romantic partner, but also has a femme w/ feelings towards her as well as a current femme partner in a non-world of gay.

Get the fuck over this notion of "oh that's just RWBY" in a head-up-ones-own-ass obnoxious manner. Before it was the goddamn "well BB isn't confirmed, its just been hinted/teased" even with the show making it fucking blatantly clear it was happening, including soft-canonizing it via a character directly bringing up the mutual romantic feelings going on between the two tying it to her own ones towards the other part of the sibling hetero pair of the show. Now after its been given one of the best most beautifully done scenes in the entire show w/ a goddamn song written by an LGBT+ artist and sung by both them & another LGBT+ femme to canonize them; its STILL being treated/view like its both bait/non-canon and/or lesser than other pairs. Its especially fucking rich when I know some people who'd sing the praises of Warrior Nun and Avatrice, which is in the same goddamn vein as RWBY and BB with both being great ships and shows. If anyone tried to pull this shit with that show & that pairing, you'd get your damn ass torn apart and you know it; but RWBY isn't given that same respect. Caitvi/Violyn (Arcane) gets more damn respect and technically speaking its not even fucking canon yet, its still in the phase that either v4-7 BB was at. Where its been heavily implied & teased to the point of me going with it as soft-canon, yet not a damn soul would scoff at it being mentioned within LGBT+ ships. But once again RWBY is different.

Those that pull this shit are:

the shit-for-brains know-nothings that either want to shit on the show because of their own hoity-toity its too below us bullshit or haven't bothered to actually watch the damn show

the bigoted incel pieces of shit that just don't support LGBT+ yet infest our spaces;

the antis that don't care what was built up, they're salty bitches that just can't stand their pair didn't happen

the entitled ass LGBT+ that think all LGBT+ should be rushed, spotlighted at the center of the story, and aimed at an LGBT+ audience instead of normalized for a general audience.

So if you're going to thumb your nose at the show and its rep, then fuck you and go fuck your damn self. You're no damn better than the incels and chuds. And don't even think to reach for any LGBT+ cards cause I've got my own one. They're canon and they're great get that through your fucking heads, that little web show fucking delivered. Late to comment but I love your Arcane fic! You did a good job capturing Vi's character voice, and how she's trying to balance her pragmatism and prejudice against her growing attraction to Caitlyn.

I'm a sucker for how the tickling was actually initiated by another patron first, making Vi think Cait was in trouble, but ultimately getting both to lower their inhibitions with their teasing and venting of their frustrations over each other. It's both sweet and sad how it reminds Vi of a time where she was quicker to let her guard down with Powder and the family she once had.

And the tickling itself was very well described. That striking balance of hilarious, exciting, and exhausting, where even someone as strong as Vi feels herself going to pieces with someone like Caitlyn teasing her abs. Hahah

This wasn't a conscious, analytical decision on my part, but now that you mention it, I think it does really suit their personalities (and their relationship) to have a third party break that particular ice for them. It sort of inverts their usual dynamic, letting Vi be the maternal protective one and bringing out Cait's snippy, caustic edge. Both girls have their own painful reasons to be reserved with one another, and it seems unlikely that either would randomly start a tickle fight or get so physically affectionate out of nowhere - they need someone else to plant the seed and give them a nudge toward breaking those touch barriers down. This takes place before the bridge hug and the implied bedroom shenanigans after all! XDDD

Vi, I imagine, would have very mixed thoughts about this kind of intense stimulation (especially coming from Cait), and she wouldn't really know how to react. It was a fun challenge to convey those complicated feelings through text...I hoped the reader would think that Vi is reluctantly enjoying herself, wanting Cait to stop but unwilling to admit that her heart isn't just pounding from exhaustion.

I really appreciate your thoughtful feedback. It means a lot. In three years' worth of content, this was one of my favorite fics to write. :)

one prediction for season 2 arcane?

One prediction? I have to choose just one?

Based on all the hints and tiny tidbits we’ve been getting, I think S2 is going to be pretty emotionally rough, on everybody. Irregardless of who survives the missile attack (and it looks very much like Kirammama does not) the fallout of that is probably going to result in a civil war between the two cities, and with Ambessa around, the Hextech-Weaponry subplot related to her pushing Jayce and Mel, and Viktor’s descent into becoming Borg (Drama) Queen it’s going to grab the attention of other parts of Runeterra. I think we’re going to see some Noxus Champions pop up as things escalate, and the civil war threatens to spread to other regions; there was an interview that implied we were getting three seasons in Piltover before moving out iirc, and I think the war is a logical plan to do it as a way to interconnect everything, so season 2 is where we’re going to get a LOT of heat.

CaitVi specific..? Oh boy. Oh man. Oh loves. I have three million theories of where it could go, but basing specifically on the themes and though processes of the first season and interviews and hints and jokes aside…

I think we’re going to get a kiss, at the very least. Cement that yeah, they’re the big romantic plot and we want to root for their relationship, before the show puts that relationship through the wringer. And while we’ve gotten very little hint-wise on where Vi is going to be in s2 we’ve gotten a surprisingly good amount of glimpses behind the curtain related to Caitlyn specifically - and that most recent screenshot/leak of her animation model all bruised up in armour and looking pissed? And the preview dialogue they accounted s2 with, where Caitlyn says (to Vi) she’s going to fight Jinx and it will only end with either she or Jinx dead? It’s very likely that their conflict is going to be Caitlyn - representing Piltover and Jinx - representing Zaun having a personal fight that mirrors the one the cities are going to go through, with Vi stuck in the middle. Caitlyn was the naive, idealistic bleeding heart of the first season, and after the tea party she was on the edge of being ready to take a life; I think she’s going to have a pretty big breakdown and Vi’s going to have to realize she’s experiencing another person she loves get twisted up by misguided hate. (And can I say that I would love this, Vi being the character who had nothing BUT years of stewing over her anger and hate to not let that ruin her, to be the light in the darkness) I wouldn’t be surprised if the second or third act ends with Vi and Caitlyn fighting each other, as Vi tries to stop Caitlyn from going down a dark path while we all shout at our screens.

(Vi’s line of dialogue in the s2 announcement being her self-sacrificing ‘I can do this alone’ attitude again - does she abandon Caitlyn again to try and save Jinx on her own? What if she’s not talking about Jinx???)

Okay that’s multiple predictions oops, anyway, before I really start rambling.

On the assumption we’re getting a third season for Arcane, then season 2 is going to be our Empire Strikes Back - it’s gonna end bleak, lots of dramatic loose ends and worries, with our girls on opposite sides of a war that we’ll have to anxiously wait another 3-5 years to be resolved. We know how their journey ends, so I think the show is gonna put us through a hell of a time to get there.

I’m so hyped for it.

Caring despite all the rightful hesitations, a bit of ridiculousness, and from Ekkos's perspective, an incredulous situation makes for such a good read.

okay I have been super tired, so this took me like 3 days to write lol but we're so back baby here we go!

Affection in all the wrong places is very cute! I like the concept of things having eventually calmed down years later and Ekko and Jinx being able to relate to each other without the mediation of the conflict we see in the show. in some ways it also reminded me of one of my fics, with the whole "years later" thing, and I just think it's fun to see how different authors interpret similar ideas 😊

for What's broken can still mend, I think I actually read this one before I had my account?? I read a lot of CaitVi back then lol but I was just starting to get interested in timebomb. yet the summary sounds familiar...

but anyway, on to the thoughts! this is such a small thing but I love the idea that Vi comes to the Firelight base and plays with kids. I love it so much I might steal it for the end of revolution lol (with credit, naturally). and Ekko deciding not to kill her? wild lol, just wild. a little curious about why then, but hey, it felt very poetic and we can never be mad at that haha also was surprised at how it ended, but I was happy to see that Vi and Jinx made up, because who knows how canon will go 🥲

I feel like I've figured out your pattern lol you like fics where after the events of canon things chill out and Jinx goes to Ekko. and then implied/actual sex haha

I do enjoy Ekko being a bit of a dork here. the first fic I wrote with him in it has him telling bad science jokes lol. but he's also so sassy here which is how he became my favorite Arcane character in the first place, so we love to see that too.

He loved the way she swallowed. around here is when he started to get really terrible and I was so down for it lol. AND it's reciprocal! I like that playfulness coming out with them. you can feel how much they're into each other, and that along with how they're not saying everything (which I feel like is also a commonality between these 3 fics). since this is the longest of the 3 by a good bit, it really comes through, and I like in particular how Jinx is really torn up about the idea of loving him while Ekko is eventually able to convince himself to stop holding back, even though he's still afraid she'll hurt him.

She had seen what happened to people she loved and loved her back.

Not Ekko. Not chubby-cheeked, pouty-faced, sad-eyed, Ekko who hovered around her when she was sick and injured, who tended a nice little garden of friends and firelights, who zipped through the fissures like one of those masked heroes in barbershop stories.

the end to this one is also really interesting. I would say it's my favorite of the 3. I like how the tension between Ekko and Caitlyn and Vi plays out, though I'm wary of the Firelights being legitimated by Piltover (though Ekko is, too, which is why I love him lol). it's interesting to see them inhabit this space created by all the tension in the world around them. and then, of course, Jinx comes back. more bittersweet than the first 2, but in a way I enjoyed a lot

Well, for one, it's a big part of the story as a whole, and two, I guess the angst maybe lol.

The angst, the forbidden lovers trope, thinking about all the extra scenes that were cut that would've added more to their relationship :'), the way that it still feels like there were opportunities to fix this!

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Not so much on the ship itself, but how people talk about Padme's love for Anakin. Padme is not stupid. I don't think it was like she saw all the red flags and just decided to quickly ignore them and pretend they didn't exist. I think from her perspective she felt like she could genuinely help Anakin. She didn't want to give up on him. Her love feels unconditional to me. Sure, it wasn't the best choice maybe, he needed more help than she could give (plus the jedi), but characters are allowed to not make perfect decisions all the time... and anyway she wasn't completely wrong because later on he finally while dying wanted to be good again.

I love the balloons that show the lesbian flag (just in front of Caitvi, at their sides) and the bi flag on the other side behind the "hat guy" (sorry don't know the name ^^)

OH MY GOD YES next to Twisted Fate :')

In the story Riot published for Graves and Twisted Fate (the hat guy and the cape guy on the right), TF talks about his dating life and alludes to people of multiple genders, hence the bi flag. Graves is established as gay, while TF is strongly implied as bi, given his dating history. They're teasing a romance between the two, but they're definitely part of the LGBTQ+ community.

It's really cool that the lesbian balloons are used for Diana and/or Leona, while the bi balloons are reserved for TF. I'm pretty sure it was intentional.

I wonder what the guidelines looked like for this artpiece in particular like was the artist told they needed to include specific characters or elements? Did they improvise? At the end of the day, someone at Riot approved and it was posted on their main account. That's massive!

This is not in reference to anything in particular but a thing that tends to annoy me a bit with Caitvi content is how the most wide reaching stuff tends to be, for lack of a better word, soft.

And like obviously this is hardly unique to Caitvi, people have been complaining about the supercorpification/yurification of femslash for ages. It just feels particularly striking with Caitvi because of the source material. Arcane relies heavily on punk aesthetic, the soundtrack borrows from techno and metal.

Yet so much of the fan content is just "what if nothing bad happened and they pressed their foreheads softly together?" (Taylor Swift playing in the background is implied).

Like, Vi is a butch ex-con, Cait is canonically a domme, i don't want high society gala and scandalized glances, i want SWEATY NASTY FUCKING IN AN ALLEY WHILE DRUNK ON BOTTOM SHELF VODKA.

The least we can do is be more subversive than the source material.

Rain. It pours down on me, drips into my eyes, makes my clothes stick to my skin; comforting but annoying. The foggy streets are illuminated by warm lights from warm homes while I lean against a cold wall, not warm at all.

I don’t move. It’s not like I have anywhere to go.

One, two, three. My favourite amount of marshmallows cheerily swimming in my favourite mug. I sigh contentedly and stare at my warm ceiling light. My gaze sweeps across my living room to my window, and violent droplets of rain pelt the glass. A sudden thought invades my mind: I pity whoever is out in the rain at this hour, probably cold and hungry.

My heart aches for someone that might not even exist,

but that aching turns to surprise as I glimpse a figure in the foggy mist.

One by one, curtains are pulled and the street is dark again. How I miss those warm lights. Expertly scanning the shadows, I take another sip from my hot chocolate, now rapidly cooling and mixed with rainwater. It's probably acidic, given the factories not too far away, but I don't give a damn.

I toss my head back and down the whole thing.

Stalking as unsuspiciously as one can to the nearest trash can, I casually toss the empty cup in. I was never one to litter.

I was being pretty impulsive, I noted, going out in the middle of the night to talk to the wanderer. Well, that was a nice way of saying it. Most of my neighbours call her "beggar" or "street bitch". But I didn't second-guess myself as I put on my coat and casually stride out the door with no more than a knife and a taser.

I notice her instantly - black hair with red tips, lips tugging up into a sly grin - and she was heading right for me. I arch a curious eyebrow, but otherwise stay put. She seems harmless, lest the bulges in her coat. I don't react.

She looks informal, dark brown hair cut short in a way that screams "I don't go to salons". She casually leans against the cracked stone wall and I can't help but shudder with fear and.. Well.

I subconsciously bite my lower lip as I think of what to say. Once I’ve decided, doubts cloud my mind and my confidence wavers. Feeling that familiar anxiety closing in around my lungs, I blurt my words out so I wouldn’t regret it later.

I appreciate the way her tooth gap shows when she bites her lip.

“Would you like to have some hot cocoa?” She blurts it out quickly but curtly, her voice never wavering. I want to scoff at her stupidity but retain my blank stare. Hoping that she takes the hint, I look away from her and check my watch nonchalantly.

Rain clouds my vision and I catch her blurry figure retreating.

Exhaling in disappointment, I turn to leave. When I’m halfway to my block, I look back one last time to see that she hasn’t moved.

I was stupid, I noted, climbing the dirty steps up to my apartment.

The thudding of her boots fade away and her warm light goes out, blanketing me in darkness.

The streets seem so much colder.
