so i’ve just read this fic

(which was very nice by the way, but it kept me on edge all the way through with everybody being mentally stable and having good relationships with their family)

and it gave me an idea of a platonic (i feel crazy even clarifying this, but, you know. just in case.) stobin fic where steve was out of job and started a fake boyfriend gig for some cash and robin hired him for some family gathering to throw her relatives off the scent. they begrudgingly hit it off and being affectionate came easily to them after a while, so steve immediately thought that he’d found his One And Only (valiantly ignoring the fact that something felt off in their dynamic, that when they hugged or played with each other’s hair or bickered it didn’t really feel like having a girlfriend, but he was too lonely and confused about his feelings, so he just latched onto the most logical and easy conclusion) and robin thought “steve’s so great at this whole fake flirting thing and thank god he’s never going to hit on me because it’s literally his job and he’s done it a thousand times already” and tentatively hoped that she’d found a new friend she could keep. but then they had The Bathroom Talk somewhere in robin’s relatives’ house, probably sloshed after the *insert a holiday* party, and steve shot his shot and robin came out and they cried in each other’s arms and became Best Friends Forever and lived happily ever after. the end.

and then there’s eddie somewhere in there too (because i’m a steddie slut first and foremost): maybe as robin’s best friend, who had found the craigslist ad in the first place and watched the whole train wreck from the sidelines, trying not to crush on the “very obviously straight” steve who was “very obviously crushing on robin” and steve getting to know him throughout the whole ordeal and being even more Confused about his feelings. and when robin rejected him, being surprised that he felt more relieved than heartbroken and realizing the one he’d like to smooch and hold hands with was actually not robin, but eddie.

and then, after the whole thing, when people see steve and robin’s dynamic and inevitably assume they’re dating they just start laughing hysterically without actually explaining anything or lean into it instead and start retelling their fake story and exaggeratively fawning over each other while giggling uncontrollably like little children while eddie just sighs and ponders the life decisions that brought him to that point in the background.

anyway. i’m not going to write this (i’m realistic, okay?), but somebody definitely should. so. just putting it out there.

You just KNOW that if Cazador was even remotely hot you would never see the end of people shipping him with Astarion. Ao3 would be awash with hundreds upon hundreds of Astarion/Cazador fics, there would be thirsty fanart of them together on your feed 24/7, people would be losing their goddamn minds over how wrong and fucked upbutalsokindahot they are together.

He would be on the level of Orin or Gortash or Raphael.

But no.

Larian were just like 'lol lets make him lame as fuck'. And I TRULY appreciate that. I thought I was in for Castlevania Dracula levels of sexiness, but he's just a... guy. Like he's just so thoroughly unremarkable it's amazing.

I don't know if it was all deliberate or not but I love it. They hype him up SO MUCH you can't even imagine the dark edgy vampire sex god you're going to encounter and then when I first saw him in game I was literally like "man who's that dork where's-CAZADOR SZARR?!"

I see no fanart of him. I see no fics of him.

He is anticlimax personified.

It's perfect. He's not cool. Abusers aren't cool. He's just a loser with an astronomical amount of power and the people he's hurt are helpless to stand up to him. He doesn't really NEED to be anything else.

This man, who is very aware of her insecurities, sat there and didn't share his own story. Heard all the disgusting things she went through and didn't think, "hmmm, maybe I should air out my own closet."

She had to force herself into his apartment to be there for him. And even then, she only got a tiny morsel of information BECAUSE HE WAS DELIRIOUS AND THOUGHT HE WAS DREAMING.

Yeah, it's her fault for forgetting that he's human and placing him on a pedestal. But he did this, too. He had months? Weeks? Days? To tell her about his own history. Whether or not it was something to be fixed.

I could have understood his reluctance when they weren't in a relationship. At that time, what was important was her happiness and he focused on that. Good. No problem. But the moment they got together, how did it not occur to him to bring it up?

"Ummm... honey, you know how my gramps is wary of you? Yeah, it's because there's a woman that's been crafted from childhood to be my wife. Lol."

It's not as simple as that, but it is a conversation worth having, given that he knows the intimately disgusting parts of her own history.

He lied to her. He pretended he didn't have anything to worry about. (I won't even talk about how he didn't mention his concerns about dying in ten years to see if it was something they could fix TOGETHER!!! You know? The way they fixed her own problems???)

When we see a woman who was killed by her husband after she found out he was having an affair with her bestfriend, how does it still confuse us that such a woman would want to remove herself from the possibility of this knight-in-shining-amour being another devil?

After all, she thought the sun hung out of Minhwan's ass and he killed her. Who's to say Jihyuk is any different when he has a whole other woman THAT HE NEVER FUCKING TOLD HER ABOUT???????

after the rain; on neuvillette and childe (and fontaine's prison complex but not really)

i haven't played the archon quest yet but i think neuvillette should visit childe in prison and i think they should have many conversations about guilt and its innate relation to necessity. about how doing things for the greater good allows the smaller regrets to eat away at your life. about duty to their archons and what that means in the time of power both bestowed and forced upon.

i think childe should get to confide in neuvillette. i don't know about what. maybe the ways the abyss drove him first into aggression out of necessity, and later into the fatui where he found a meaning for violence. maybe the way being a soldier means he views himself as a weapon, and one devoted to his archon no matter the cost. maybe the way the abyss encroaches on his mind and psyche and body the more he uses it. maybe the way he struggles between becoming a monster to carry out the tsaritsa's wishes, and staying big brother ajax to his siblings.

and i think neuvillette should have the chance to listen to this young man talk about all the circumstances that tore him away from a beautiful life of mundanity.

he's not listening to the story of childe.

he's listening to the story of ajax, a little boy who just did his best to survive.

neuvillette knows that childe is irreversibly tainted by the powers named poison to his kind. he chooses to listen anyways. because despite the fact that childe is almost everything that opposes him, he may also be one of the few people that can intimately understand the struggle neuvillette goes through every day.

i think necessity may be a large part of both childe and neuvillette's motives. necessity to family, to duties, to the greater good.

and i think, maybe, that for these men whose lives have been spent for something greater, they deserve some selfishness.

two men on opposite sides of the battlefield can pry into each other's chests to find the same blood and bone.

two men on either side of a prison cell can, too, find a selfish necessity in one another.
