like maybe he recently received a shock from his pacemaker/icd so he temporarily can't drive, and public transportation would take way too long for what is a 24 hour visit, so he asks her, thinking she can drop him off, enjoy a nice day in scotland and drive him back but ofc the moment his family sees her they question who she is, chastising him for the inappropriateness of bringing a new gf to a funeral. easy enough misconception to correct, except hardy -- in classic hardy fashion -- has not told them anything about his heart problems and is not particularly willing to do so now given that his dad also died of heart disease. anyway cue fake dating, explorations dysfunctional families and whether we are doomed to repeat the past and the mortifying ordeal of being known.
