This fic is part of ❄️ FANFICmas 2022 ❄️ Read more about fanficmas here!
 Harry’s in the middle of recording a verse for a new song he’s been working on for the past days when the music cuts off and he looks at the technician through the window with a confused expression.
“What happened?” he asks, pulling the headphones off. Jim, the technician presses a button and speaks into the mic that carries sound into the booth.
“Man, your phone is blowing up.”
“It’s fine, I’ll just call them back,” he shrugs.
“It’s Y/N. She’s called like six times in the past two minutes.”
His stomach churns.
He’s fast to exit the booth, fetching his phone from one of the seats. You know he’s at the studio and wouldn’t call if it wasn’t an emergency.
“Let’s take five,” he says, unlocking his phone and opening his call log, seeing all the missed calls from you. Jim knows it’s his cue to leave, he walks out without a word as Harry dials your number, a knot forming in the pit of his stomach.
“Harry!” you answer out of breath.
“What’s going on?”
“I’m on my way to the hospital.”
“What? Are you okay?”
“Harry, it’s not me, it’s Nan,” you let out a shaky breath.
“I’m on my way,” he says, packing up his things immediately.
Jim doesn’t fuss when Harry ends the session early. He jumps into his car and you tell him what happened as he heads to the hospital as well. Nan apparently went on a date and out of all the activities she could have done with her date, she went skating.
“What was she thinking?!” he snaps, smacking his hand against the steering wheel when he has to stop at a red light.
“I just arrived, how far are you?”
“Ten minutes away.”
“Alright, meet you here.”
Harry soon arrives at the hospital and parks his car down in a frenzy, rushing inside. The nurse behind the desk recognizes him right away, but before she could start fangirling, you come up to him running.
“Hey! There you are,” you exhale, hugging him tight.
“How is she?”
“She fractured her hip, can you believe it?”
“For real, I love her more than anything, but sometimes she can act like a child,” he shakes his head in disapproval.
Walking down the hallways you stop at room 102 and Harry follows you inside. Nan is right there, lying in bed, chatting with the nurse, already telling her about recipes and gardening.
“I promise you Sweetheart, that’s the key to the perfect banana bread!” she explains and her face lights up when she sees the two of you flood into the room. “Harry! So good to see you!”
“Nan, what did you do?” he questions right away, ignoring the way the nurse blushes upon seeing him before walking out of the room.
“Oh, nothing crazy, don’t worry about me!”
“Skating at your age is actually crazy, Nan,” you shake your head, taking a seat on the edge of the bed, careful not to hurt her.”
“Aye, watch your mouth!” she wiggles a finger at you, but you just roll your eyes at her.
“Let’s start at the very beginning. You were on a date?!” Harry gawks at her, standing over you. Most of his worry is gone, seeing Nan be her usual sweet but sassy self.
“Oh, we’re not talking about that,” Nan waves around, but there’s no way Harry will just drop it like that.
“No, no, no, you’re not getting away with it! You didn’t tell us! Who was he anyway?”
“It’s none of your business! I’m a big girl!” she jokes.
“Yes, but going on a date is something you share with your family, don’t you think?” you ask, giving her hand a squeeze. “You demanded to know everything about my first date with Harry, it’s not fair you keep things like this from us!”
“Frank’s daughter works at the flower shop on Ernest Road. I’ve run into him several times before and we’ve had some pleasant conversations. He asked me out and I said yes, that’s it,” she shrugs, fixing her hair just to avoid looking at you or Harry.
“And you didn’t have a better idea than skating? Nan, you have to be careful!”
“I used to be a great skater in high school!” she protests like a little kid, Harry needs to bite a smile back.
“Oh my God,” you pinch the bride of your nose. “I’m gonna get you something to drink. Harry, stay with her so she doesn’t go skydiving or something,” you mumble as you walk out of the room.
“I’m kind of offended, Nan,” Harry places a hand over his chest, stepping closer to her bed. “I thought I was your guy.”
“Oh, Harry!” she sighs. “You know you’re my number one,” she chuckles, a slight blush tinting her cheeks that just makes Harry even more confident about himself.
“Apparently Frank took my place!” he scoffs dramatically. “I need to meet him, Nan. I’m not gonna let him just steal you away like that, I have to make sure you’re in good hands!”
“Please, don’t act like I’m getting engaged!” she chuckles. “It was just a date!”
“Yeah, but then more dates come and next thing we know you’re walking down the aisle!”
Nan lets out a belly laugh that soon turns into a wince and Harry instantly regrets joking around.
“I’m alright, I’m alright,” she assures him when he moves to check her. “Harry, I’m just looking for some company, I won’t remarry.”
“I know,” his gaze softens, sitting down to the edge of her bed. “And I want you to have fun, but you need to be more careful. You’re sturdy, but not indestructible, okay?”
“I know,” she sighs. “Just wanted to have some fun like when I was younger.”
“We’ll find another way that doesn’t include fractured hips,” he smirks at her.
Tumblr media
Harry has been MIA for hours. It’s not unusual when he’s at the studio, but you know for a fact he has the day off, so why isn’t he answering your texts?
You keep wondering as your work day drags by and when you finally head home, you try to call him again. It rings and rings and you’re starting to get anxious that something might have happened to him. When you think it will go unanswered the ringing finally breaks and a familiar voice answers, but it doesn’t belong to your fiancé.
“Y/N? Hi!” Nan’s upbeat voice welcomes you and relief washes over you.
“Nan? Would you mind telling where my man is?” you chuckle as you get into the car. The phone connects and the answer comes through the speakers.
“Oh, he is just up on my roof!” she says as if it wasn’t a big deal at all.
“What?” you chuckle in disbelief. “Why?”
“He’s helping me decorate! Showed up here this morning, he’s been doing all the work all day!”
“Oh God, of course he did,” you chuckle.
It’s been a week since Nan’s skating accident and she’s been miserable because she can’t get around like she usually does. She has someone from the family checking up on her every day and a nurse comes by in the morning and in the night too, but you all know how much she hates to be in need of help. You keep telling her it’s just temporary, she’s been having a great recovery, but she needs to be more patient with herself.
Harry must have wanted to make her feel better, she’s been moping about not being able to decorate like she usually does, so your fiancé probably took matters into his own hands.
Without thinking twice, you head over to Nan’s place to check up on both of them. When you arrive, you’re glad to see all the décor Nan whips out every year. Lights are running along the edge of the roof, huge candy canes are peeking out of the ground in the garden up front and garlands are snaking up the columns of the front porch. And the last touch? Santa’s sleigh is on the roof, Nan’s favorite décor every kid adores around the neighborhood.
You knock on the front door with a goofy grin, looking at the snowman ornament hanging on it. The door flies open and you’re met with your lover.
“Hey there,” he smirks and pulling you inside he greets you with a big kiss on your cold lips.
“Hi! Nan said you’ve turned into her little elf for the day,” you chuckle, enjoying the warmth inside as Harry takes your coat.
“I did the best I could,” he smirks shyly.
“Y/N! Hi!” Nan cheers from her armchair, her cane resting against the side of it. Before she could try to push herself up to greet you, which for sure she plans to, you rush over and plant a smooching kiss to her cheek, stopping her from moving.
“Stay, Nan. How are you feeling?”
“I’ve had a great day with Harry. Did you see the décor outside?” she beams.
“I did, looks great,” you smile at her.
Harry makes some tea and the three of you sit by the fireplace. Nan is obviously happy to have company and you’re glad to be spending time with her. She really scared you with her little accident earlier, she got lucky, it could have turned out to be way worse.
“Alright, you two head home and be together,” she sighs, checking the time and seeing how late it has gotten.
“We’re happy to be here, Nan,” Harry smiles, taking her empty mug and heading to the kitchen to clean up.
“Y/N, give me that box over there,” she gestures at a little wooden box on the shelves next to the fireplace. You obey and hand her the box, watching her dig into the stack of papers inside. “Here, this is for you,” she hands one over and you take it, scanning over it curiously.
“What’s thi— Oh. This is… This is your secret recipe. Your gingersnap cookies…”
“I want you to have it.”
“But why? You haven’t given it to any of my cousins yet,” you look at her with wide eyes.
This recipe comes from Nan’s grandma, so it’s been in the family for a long time. Every woman eventually gets it, your mom has it too, but she can only pass it on to the generation coming after you, that’s the rule. Nan hasn’t passed it on to anyone and you and your cousins have been wondering who’ll get it first.
She chose you. Though you would have sworn your cousin Riley would be the first, she is the first who got pregnant and now has two kids.
“Because what you and Harry have reminds me the most of what I had with Steven. Riley’s husband would have never spent the day here, climbing on my roof and hanging ornaments. And Lydia… God, I’m afraid she will never settle!” she chuckles, bringing up your female cousins. “You two… are something truly special and soon you’ll finally get married. I want you to know how to make it by the time you’ll have babies.”
You can’t help the tear that rolls down your cheek as you lean closer and give her a hug.
“Thank you, Nan,” you whisper, kissing her cheek right when Harry walks back in. He looks startled to see you crying.
“Woah, did I miss something?” he cautiously asks, but you just shake your head chuckling.
“Everything is perfect, don’t worry,” Nan smiles up at him. You give Harry a look that tells him to just drop it and so he nods.
The nurse arrives to help Nan get ready for bed when you leave and you hug her just a few moments longer than you usually do before walking out.
“Are you sure everything is alright?” Harry asks when you’re home, standing side by side in the bathroom, doing your usual night time routine.
“Nan gave me her gingersnap cookie recipe,” you say with a smile as you brush your hair, looking at him from the mirror. For a moment, he rakes his mind to figure out what it means and when he does, his eyes go wide.
“Oh! You’re the first one then!” he beams at you proudly.
“Yeah,” you chuckle. “She said that what we have reminds her of what she had with Pa.”
“That’s very sweet,” he smiles, brushing a hand across your back, pressing a kiss to the side of your head.
“She also brought up us having babies, I think she is getting impatient,” you add with a little laugh as you turn around and lean against the sink to face him.
“Wow, she can never have enough!” he grins. “I got comments on proposing to you for months and now that we have the date reserved she found something else to poke me about!”
“She’s not rushing us, you know. Just wants to see us become parents.”
“Soon,” he smiles and stepping closer his hands find your waist. “First, let’s make us official. Then we can move on to baby making.”
“So… that’s the plan?” you tilt your head to the side.
“Is it not?”
“I don’t know,” you chew your bottom lip.
“Y/N? Want to share something with me?” He takes your chin between his thumb and index finger, making you look him in the eyes.
“I was just thinking… We’re getting married in February. It’s not that far away, maybe we could… start trying sooner? It might not happen right away and if it does, it wouldn’t even show at the wedding…”
For some reason you feel so nervous about proposing your idea. You’ve talked about trying for a baby next year, you’re very much on the same page so even if he says no for now, you’d definitely start in a few months. You just figured that maybe you could start sooner.
Harry gently cradles your face in his hands, a tiny smile tugging on the edges of his mouth.
“So… we should just drop the pills, hm?”
“Y-Yeah. I mean, only if you’re okay with it. We don’t have to if you—“
He presses his lips to your lips, melting away your nervousness instantly as he kisses you softly but passionately.
“I’m more than okay, Y/N. I know you’re it for me, we don’t have to wait for a certain date to start trying.”
You can’t stop your growing smile as you look up at him.
“Okay. No more pills then,” you bite into your bottom lip.
“And a lot of baby making,” he smirks cockily, sweeping off your feet and carrying you into the bedroom. You’re a giggling mess as he throws you to the mattress, but they soon die down when he gets on top of you, occupying your lips with something much more exciting.
Thank you for reading, please like and reblog if you enjoyed and buy me a coffee if you want to support me!

BEST of BL's in 2023 [Thai edition]
(more accurately my favourites from 2023, so that i have something to show for the 100s of hours i spent watching them lmao)
I Feel You Linger In The Air - Head & Shoulders above (almost) every single piece of queer media i've ever watched. Khun Yai and Jom will be forever icons. That drunk poem confession will NEVER be topped. Also LESBIANS AHHHHHH also the way the show explored intimacy AHHH just end meeee
Tumblr media
2. Moonlight Chicken - Aof strikes again. Gave me Uncle Jim, Heart, Li Ming and my baby boy Gaipa- the music, the cinematography, the writing, the found fckin family - i will recommend it to EVERY one on the planet if i could.
Tumblr media
3. Be My Favourite- I did not expect to enjoy this show as much as i did. I loved what they were tryna say. I LOVED the queer undertones in EVERYTHING. if not for the asexual erasure and Not being an absolute asshole this would have been quite the perfect show. And man is Gawin so darn sculpted perfection, LOOK AT THAT FACE, how to not admire!? Also Pearmai my beloved. AND THAT POEM in episode 11 ARGHHH
Tumblr media
4. Bed Friend - I know this was a polarizing series in a lot of ways and I agree to some of the complaints raised BUTTTTTT NET MY FRENZ NET! How am i supposed to not melt into a complete puddle watching King pretend to not be absolutely in love with Uea, and treating him like the babygirl he is, when he looks like THAT. I'm but a mere mortal.
Tumblr media
5. La Pluie - I kinda liked the show and disliked it in equal amounts. Saengtai annoyed me quite a LOT towards the end BUT his brother Sangtien - Suar Kritsanaphong had me in the palm of his hand. Him and his kiss with Lomfon is etched firmly in my brain. It HAD to be on this list.
Tumblr media
6. Only Friends - Gawd. The Promise. The Promise of it all. Thats what maddens me THE MOST. There was just SO MUCH that they could have done. Even if they stuck with a lot of their similar choices i would have still put it higher up on the list if they hadn't undone all the good work they did in the final episode. I couldnt even bring myself to rewatch anything from this one cos of how disappointingly it ended. That being said - FirstKhao KILLED it as usual, i CANNOT wait for their next one, BOSTON deserved better and my MVP- Mark Pakin AHHH i NEED him on EVERY SHOW EVER but also in ways concerning to me GAWD WHAT A TALENT AND WHAT A FACE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. Laws of Attraction - Charn you guys. Charn and his utterly deranged expressions and his even more deranged ex. And ofc everything else the show offered. The drama. The mystery. The family. The romance. THE LESBIANS!!!!? Few things not to love. Especially the finale with all the domestic husbanding going on. Precious af.
Tumblr media
8. Hidden Agenda - Far too much nonsensical plotlessness going on here for this to claim this position BUT i'm just a girl watching Joong swoon over his man and losing it in the corridor and proceeding to do that myself cos man he's so damn good in these kinda scenes. I think he'd be good in more serious ones too but I would much prefer it if it was with somebody who could offer more than Dunk (no shade he very cute himself)
Tumblr media
POTENTIAL FAVS
The following is a list of shows i loved/liked it a LOT but still watching/running so I can't fully judge
(in no particular order except the first one cos who am i to put an aof show not at the top of any list)
Last Twilight [BEST THING EVER I AM WHOLLY AND IRRETRIEVABLY IN LOVE IM GONNA REWATCH IT LIKE ITS MY JOB PLS I NEED IT TO STICK THE LANDING SO BAD]
Tumblr media
Love in Translation - episode 4 what a beauty, one of my fav episodes of any BL in 2023 ever- just LOVED the whole fake date thing - it was EVERYTHING
Tumblr media
Wedding Plan - Leads are cute. Lesbians are cuter. Made me laugh. Also CUTENESS hello
Tumblr media
Night Dream - Who doesn't love a long unrequited but actually totally requited love story?
Tumblr media
The Sign - nothing i can ever say is gonna be enough to encompass just how mind-blowing this series is from concept to execution to CGI to costumes to the gorgeous leads with fckin electric chemistry AND the PINING and the will they won't they arhhhh- TOP TIER STUFF
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cooking Crush - i went into this with minimal expectations, the trailer didnt do much for me BUT oh my gawd i had SO MUCH FUN with each episode, i laughed SO much and i am very much looking forward to the rest of it
Tumblr media
Cherry Magic - TayNew back again together. Karan and his gorgeous existence. Loved the og. The trope where one believes they are hard to love & someone who loves them like it’s breathing- its literally made for this show and i am SUPER excited where it goes. PLS PLS PLS let them keep the aroace character aroace PLEASE!?!?!?

Im 16 my life is worthless does it get better ?
Hey there. I'm so sorry to hear you think that, but thank you for reaching out. When I was 16 (I'm 22 now), similar thoughts crossed my mind, but trust me when I tell you two things- I promise you, your life is not worthless, and yes it gets better. Keep pushing through. I believe in you. You deserve to take up as much space as you want to, be as loud as you want to be, and try as many things as you want to try.
Purposelessness haunted my thoughts when I was 16 too. Sometimes it still does. Society pushes a lot of pressure on us to live the "perfect" life and to prove to others that you do. Sometimes I find myself jealous of other people who are moving at a faster pace than I seem to be. But this does not render me worthless, and neither does it you. Everyone at their own pace. You will figure it out.
In the meantime, I'll give you some examples of how I've developed myself as an individual so far. (I don't have it all figured out; this is just what I've done to boost my sense of worth.) I hope you find it helpful:
Build a list of things you are passionate about. What sets your heart on fire? What do you find yourself doing that keeps you up late into the night simply because it sparks your curiosity? For example (me), those things include writing and listening to music, learning my instruments, reading books, writing poetry and ideas down, etc. This isn't even a career-oriented question, okay? Just write down what you genuinely like to do.
Build a list of people who inspire you, people you want to be like, or people you just find interesting. Whose interviews do you find yourself watching all the time, just for fun? Whose opinions do yours align with? Whose writing do you read? For example, my list of inspirational/interesting/cool people include Franz Kafka, Shakespeare, PJ Harvey, Peter Steele, Syd Barrett, Jim Jarmusch, Tom Hiddleston, many others. Then, try to figure out why you like them. Take note of what characteristics they embody. Take note of what is so special about their writing/music/quotes that make you feel so understood.
Build a list of characteristics you want to encompass. Or if it helps, build a character and show up as that person. What aspects of your personality do you want to bring to the forefront? What are your notable traits that you have already that you are most proud of? How do you want to dress? Who is your strongest you? Describe you in the way that you want to be seen. Then, try to show up as that person every day forth.
If you want to hear more about anything I've listed above, please don't hesitate to reach out. Ask me anything.
I hope this helps a little.
Love,
Tina

Silas. Your grandma Becky is an amazing woman. During family gatherings Becky and I would slip away out to the garage and smoke Virginia slims together. Take note of your grandma Becky's patience, compassion and reason. Becky never holds grudges and if you live your life the same way you will lighter and freer. Happy. I miss Becky very very much. Grandpa Jim is a business man with a very high IQ. He provides for all of his family and more importantly he's a good man. You should listen and learn everything from him that you can. His family needs him. He's a hard worker and if he can do a job himself he will. He re did the outside of the family's deck by himself. He makes amazing skyline chili and is a die hard Ohio State fan so im sure you will be watching the games with him. He is also a man of god. I went to church, Sunday school and confirmation while I was growing up. I was confirmed catholic but never lived my life through it. I felt as if when I stepped into the world I was completely alone. Completely alone. For god so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Maybe if I had actually read, learned and lived through the bible I would've ended up different? No. I made my choices. "He who keeps his mouth will keep his life. He who open his lips too wide will bring forth his own destruction." Proverbs 13 - 3.
Always respect aunt Kenzie and uncle Jake. Kenzie has her fathers wisdom and her mother's heart. She will be a great aunt to help you with your homework you cant figure out. Her and Jake will be the "fun" uncle and aunt when you're a little older. Your cousins, William and Jameson, will be great older cousins that will protect you and keep you sage. I have a feeling Quinley will want to help take care of you. I always that her and Jets palpable energy was contagious. Both of them were always my two favorites. Your aunt Brittany and uncle Joe helped raise and take care of all of your cousins growing up so they both deserve supreme respect from you at all time. Actually... Brittany and Kenzie did most of the hard work now that I think about it... HAHA just kidding Jake and Joe.
Although I don't know your aunt Maddie on a personal level but I have an odd feeling she will make for a really cool aunt. Your uncle Kyle and his cousins Andrew and Nick were friends I strongly admired growing up. We will get to those stories at some point. Uncle Kyle can teach you to defend yourself against bullies. He was always a great friend and with out doubt always the life of the party. He is a great uncle to have and you should be very thankful.
My mother, grandma Bea, is the most amazing woman on the planet Silas. She and my father gave me an amazing life. I grew up in the same town you are being raised in. Waconia Minnesota. Ahhh yes. It's a safe and quite honestly a cozy caring community for you to grow up in. I've seen much worse. If my mother and father hadn't brought me to Waconia from South Korea I would have never met your mother and you would've never been born. My mother was robbed an amazing son that she deserved. Always love Grandma Bea twice as much. Always give her two big hugs, one for you and one for me. Please Silas. When you see her always remind her that I love her.
Your aunt Karrie is my only sister. Karrie will love you so much to the point where you wont even need me. Your aunt Karrie was always more brave than me, smarter than me, grew up faster than me and was much more responsible than me. I was horrible to her because I envied her little king. I was immature and selfish. When your aunt Karrie is around, I promise you, you will be safe.
Your grandpas Ken is the smartest man i've ever met and i've met alot of people Silas. He is a great man. When I was young I wanted to be him. The reason we grew distant is because he doesn't understand the man i've become and why I do the things I do. The truth is, I don't understand myself either, but I understand everyone else around me. My father gets along and is respected by every person he meets, but i'm the only other human he has conflict with. I am the only one. Sometimes Silas, we fear what is impossible to understand. I've told horrible lies about my father and none them were true. He is the greatest dad I could ever ask for and he is a good at everything. He knows the young me well, so he will be very observant of you and have great advice towards things you should do depending on what your strengths are. But always, do what you want, not what other people want you to do. Everything to achieve nothing to prove little king. Silas. You are extremely special. More than you know. You will bring happiness to those around you effortlessly. Help creating you was my purpose. My gift back to my family and your mothers. My father is the best man and husband this world has seen. Be thankful to have him in your life.
Your mother is the strongest, most generous, empathetic and amazing person. Not girl. Person. She has a fire inside her that is fgar too strong to burn out. A lot of men will want to take that fire from her but they wont be able to because your mother is too strong. A lot of people are intimidated by her the first time they meet her. I know I was. She was an adventure of happiness and sadness and all of the love that got lost in between. She has the power to make me laugh and fall apart in the same 24 hours. Allison... I know you will take care of him. He is special. You're surrounded by amazing people who you can rely on, both yours and my family. Your journey will be filled with less virulent pain without me in it. You deserve someone truly great. A partner who never makes you question your self worth. Someone who chases your happiness as much as their own. Who supports your passions. I hope you find someone you can laugh with, sit in silence with and share your deepest secrets with. A lover, a partner, and a friend all in one. Someone who treats you as their equal, who learns and grows with and beside you. Someone who respects your heart, family and your values. I hope you find someone who reminds you that you deserve the love you guve. A far greater person then I am capable of becoming. I kill myself while thinking about you and Silas. I've tried so hard to change but failed and now is at the end. Im broken. Trying to heal. Im lost. Always remember the 100 things. Unrequited love forever.
Silas. Love makes us both happy and sad, and not a living person has been able to understand why. You know, the world is tired, and the only wealth we have left is love. On that note, here is my true life story. Anyone has the option to stop reading now. ( pages 5, 6, 7) End chapter

There are Voices in the Walls, Do you hear them too?
Queen AU
Brian is a ghost that lives in your house, Roger is a witch, John is a werewolf and Freddie is a vampire. A very normal friendship indeed
This is the first chapter of this fic I hope you guys love it as much as I do!!
Word count: 1222
You were exhausted, having spent all day moving more furniture into your new house. You had dreamed of moving into this house since you were 12, it was fucking perfect! A cute front porch, a huge backyard and a garden that did need a little touching up. But the most important to you, the attic with the gorgeous and giant window, to watch the night sky. Now you knew JACK SHIT about Astronomy but it still awed you in its beauty.
You were working comfortably in your profession, a year and a half out of University as a Psych major. You’d been chosen to do research in Criminal Psych and it paid good, so you took it, and now you could afford this beautiful house. Your mother had been so proud of you when you graduated, she said you were the strongest woman she knew, that you could face anything you wanted and come out on top. You asked her to come and visit you this weekend to see the house.
Now you LOVED your new home but there was something off about it, you were a skeptic but there were things in the house that didn’t make sense. Dishes that you had left out the night before had been put away, towels had been folded and hung in the bathroom, even your bed had been made after you had gotten out of it. The whatever it was in the house was doing your chores. Standing in the middle of your kitchen, you decided to try something,
“Hello? I know there’s something o-or someone here. I’m not afraid of you, I just-“ you sigh, rubbing your temples. This was dumb, there was nothing here. Probably just a practical joke you made in your mind. You hadn’t realized you’d been stuck in your thoughts until you were ripped away from them due to a tapping noise at the kitchen window.
“Bloody Hell!” You shrieked and peered out the window to find two men laughing and staring at you,
“Sorry! Roger here got too antsy,”
“Oi! She was taking too long to notice!” The blonde- Roger, shouted at his friend.
You stood staring at them, slack jawed and confused,
“C-can I help you??”
“Oh we live next door! We just came over to say hello,” the seemingly younger man with long brown hair smiled. You nervously smiled back and went over to the back door to greet them outside.
“Hi, I just moved in here like a week ago’”
“Welcome to the neighborhood, I’m Roger and this is Deaky, well his name is John but we all call him Deaky,” the blonde one- Roger, smiled. John behind waved slightly and smiled, barring his teeth.
“I’m Corvina, nice to meet you both,”
“Corvina? That’s a pretty name for a pretty girl,” Roger smirked at me. You rolled your eyes but you felt your face flush slightly which just made his smirk wider.
“Uh thanks, it means Raven Haired-” You shrugged, “its kinda interesting I guess,”
“Well you are raven haired and it is quite beautiful,” smiles John or Deaky. Roger just rolled his eyes but you still saw his cheeks tint.
“Thank you that’s very kind of you,” you smiled at the two, looking up at the sky as it began to darken.
“Oh we better get going, it’s getting dark- full moon tonight,” Roger rushed out barely slowing for a breath in between as John laughed nervously. They quickly started to walk away.
“Oh okay, well it was nice meeting you!” You shouted after them as they turned the corner around the house. You sighed and went back inside, locking the back door. As you turned around, you heard something metallic clank on the floor.
It was a spoon and your dishwasher had been opened along with some cabinets and you wouldn’t have particularly minded except the fact there was someone standing in the middle of the kitchen. They were extremely pale with dark, wild hair and a shocked or embarrassed (you couldn’t really tell) expression on their face.
“How d- who- whats happening?!”
“Please don’t panic! I’m sorry- you just left dishes in there and I wanted to help,” the skinny man stuttered out. If this was the thing doing your chores around the house, you didn’t mind one bit- he was incredibly attractive.
“So you’re the one doing my chores?”
“Uh y-yeah I am, I don’t mean to intrude-“
“No, no I don’t mind, it’s kinda nice,”
“So I don’t freak you out?” He looked down in shame fidgeting with his fingers.
“No, you don’t. I thought it was weird at first but now I really appreciate it,” you smiled warmly as he looked back up at you and smiled too.
“I would shake your hand, but I would go through you. I’m Brian and it’s Corvina right?”
“Yeah, how’d you know?”
“I was kind of eavesdropping on you outside, I know your neighbors and they can be idiots so I was just-“
“You were worried about me?”
“Uh yeah I guess,” he chuckled nervously.
“Well thank you Brian, it seems I have the spirits on my side,” you laughed and even got a small smile out of him. You walked into the kitchen and closed the dishwasher and putting the spoon away. Brian started closing cabinets,
“How come you can touch the cabinets and towels but not me?” you asked, looking up at him curiously.
“Oh um well actually I don’t know, I’ve never tried,” he looked down and twiddled his thumbs. You walked closer to him and reached out to touch his arm but he suddenly backed away and disappeared.
“Wait!! I’m sorry! Please come back-“ you pleaded with the empty kitchen, looking around frantically but eventually giving up and walking upstairs.
Heading up to the large window in the attic to watch the stars with your knees pulled to your chest. You heard howling in the distance as you stared at the bright, full moon. You glanced over at your neighbors’ house which still was dark and gloomy compared to the two men you met today.
“Did you know that every star you see is bigger and brighter than the sun?” You whipped your head around to find Brian standing in the middle of the room staring up at the sky.
“No I didn’t know that,” you smiled softly but continued- “Brian I’m sorry if I went too far I didn’t mean to,” he just shrugged not looking down at you. You stood up and stared at him until he finally spoke,
“it’s late you should get some rest, I made down your bed for you,” and with that he was gone again and you trudged your way to your bedroom.
@stormtrprinstilettos I heard you were interested in reading some stuff so here ya go I’m sorry it’s low key bad but I hope you like it, I love your writing a lot

me: i need to finish my open stories first not create new, oddly specific aus
my brain: 60s zimbits au where they first start talking through the old k/s zine community. they send letters, stories and artwork back and forth and learn about each other's lives (and fall in love). they finally meet each other and its clear that this is it for them. they jokingly call their own relationship 'the premise' to their friends. their wedding bands have t'hy'la engraved on them. going to cons in their old age as the admiral and ambassador spock. watching discovery and crying over hugh and paul. just jack and bitty falling in love with each other because of star trek.

Commission work - Harry Hook x Male!Reader Multipart - Matchmaker - Part 4 - Ben/Lia
Tumblr media

commissioned by @random-thoughts-003
Lia created by @disneyfan50
-
Hello yall~ so for this part-however many parts forward that includes Ben and this character-I will be using a mutual/friend of mine’s OC; Lia Hawkins~ a character she ships with Ben and I love Lia too much not to include her. Sooo yeah, basic rundown of Lia; she’s the daughter of Jim Hawkins (treasure planet dude) and Ayesha Hawkins (also an oc of Disneyfan50 who is an alien that has light powers and can summon golden wings-which Lia can also do). Ye, so Lia is a badass alien with sun-based light powers and Beasty boi falls for her and doesn’t meet any resistance this time since Mal isn’t a bitch in this story and is dating Evie now. Okay im done ENJOY~ (also if any of yall want to read bout Lia from her creator, read her stories here~)
=
(y/n) and Harry sat in (y/n)s dorm room, (y/n) curled into Harry's chest as he scrolled through a list of movies for them to watch. (y/n) hummed, pursing his lips at his phone as a text came into the vk group chat from Mal. It was a photo; of Ben, looking down at his phone and smiling. Her words underneath read; ‘someone looks a lil too happy to be just looking at a council meeting schedule’
(y/n) snorted, lifting his arms as Harry’s curled around his torso, leaning his chin on (y/n)’s shoulder to look at his phone. “what are yeh laughin’ at?” Harry mumbled, his cheek squishing against yours.
“Ben, he’s crushin’ on someone” (y/n) mumbled back, a smile growing on his face “and we’re going to find out who” Harry grumbled, not really interested in helping Ben get with his crush but (y/n) sat up and muttered something in his ear that set a blush on his cheeks “hmm?”
“fine” Harry muttered, biting (y/n)’s neck gently as he laughed. “but how are yeh gonna find out his crush?” (y/n) smirked and gave Harry a side-eye. “wha’?”
“you’re gonna steal it, obviously~” Harry huffed, but accepted his role, and later that day he returned to (y/n)’s room with Ben’s phone in hand. (y/n) made the ‘gimmie’ motion with his hands and Harry set Ben’s phone in his hand, (y/n) scrolled through Ben’s phone until he made it to the messaging app; grinning at what he saw. “beasty boi has got a crush~” Harry hummed, turning his attention to the show that was playing on the tv “you know that one alien girl; Lia?”
“tha’ one wit’ wings that Uma likes?” Harry asked, still watching the show. (y/n) nodded, scrolling through Lia and Ben’s conversation.
“yep, that would be her. And Ben’s def gotta thing for her, flirting every three paragraphs. Pffft he calls her light-bird; he’s such a damn dork” Harry started laughing, nearly doubling over as he wheezed “laugh it up, laugh it up. May I remind you of what you called me?” Harry stopped, whipping his head around to glare at (y/n) with flushed cheeks.
“yeh promised yeh would never bring that up ever again,” Harry said through his teeth, embarrassed by the old nickname he had given (y/n) when he had a puppy crush on him, back when they were on the isle. (y/n) gave a cheeky grin, akin to his dad’s, and opened his mouth to repeat Harry’s banned nickname. (y/n) squealed as Harry jumped on him, fully cadging him in his arms, legs on either side of his hips “shut.”
“wee birdie-“ (y/n) called out, laughing as Harry shoved his hand on his mouth, attempting to silence him “YOU CAN'T HIDE THE TRUTH”
“I CAN DAMN WELL TRY” Harry yelled back, leaning down and biting hard on (y/n)s collar bone, a yelp ripping from (y/n)’s lips as he continued to laugh.
“you bitch don’t bite me!” (y/n) laugh-yelled, pushing Harry off of him and switching places with him, now pushing Harry into the bed “haha!” (y/n) leaned down and bit Harry’s jaw, pushing his tongue against Harry’s skin. Harry squeaked, his face flushing red and closing his eyes. “HEY!” Harry started to push (y/n) away but (y/n)’s hands started attacking his sides, sending Harry into a laugh attack, tears pulling at his eyes “WAIT STAAAP NOOO”
“too late face your doom!!!” (y/n) cackled evilly, continuing his assault on Harry's sides.
-
Ben muttered to himself as he tore apart his room looking for his phone, stepping back and putting his hands on his hips as he took one last look around “where the heck did it go?” Ben sighed, perking up as a knock came at his door. He walked over to it and swung it open, his mood lifting as he locked eyes with Lia. “hey!? What’s up?” Lia smiled nodding away from her.
“you said we were gonna go out for dinner tonight? Something about Tony’s restaurant?” Ben thought for a moment then nodded, remembering mentioning it once but-he hadn’t asked her out to dinner yet, as far as he could remember?
“yeah-yeah, um, I lost my phone though,” Ben muttered, turning to look back at his room, pursing his lips. Lia laughed gently, her nose crinkling slightly and sending butterflies through Ben’s stomach.
“where’d you last leave it?” Lia asked, walking into his room as he stepped aside and motioned for her to come in. Ben shrugged, crossing his arms.
“I really don’t know, last time I had it was when I was talking to-…Harry…goshdarnit” Ben muttered, turning to storm out his door only for Harry to already be standing there, Ben’s phone in hand “Harry!”
“yeh dropped it beasty boy I didn’ steal it” Harry rolled his eyes and tossed Ben his phone “yeh have been busy all day so I wasn’t able to give it back till now. have fun on yer date~" Harry teased, knowing he was the one to text Lia as Ben to ask her out.
Ben rose his brow as Harry walked away, how did he know about their date-WAIT NOT A DATE, THEY WERE JUST GOING TO A RESTAURANT AS FRIENDS-…to a restaurant where many couples went omfg Ben was actually taking Lia to a place where couples regularly went and either got together or got engaged.
…welp he was already 50 feet deep might as well nosedive in.
So Ben told Lia exactly where they were going, Lia going off for a minute to go get dressed in more appropriate clothing and Ben quickly called up a reservation, to which he found out there was already one under his name. Ben pulled his phone away from his ear and then smiled, shaking his head; mentally thanking Harry for giving him a shot with Lia. And here he thought the pirate didn’t like him.
-
When Ben and Lia returned from their date, (y/n) grinned as he watched Ben help Lia out of the car, moving his hand from her hand to the small of her back, smiling so wide it looked like his face would rip, and escorted Lia inside.
“he’s smitten” (y/n) chuckled, leaning back against Harry’s chest as they both finished off their pizza, Harry reaching out for the lava cakes he had ordered and humming. “bet; Ben has a lipstick stain on his cheek, tomorrow at breakfast” Harry laughed and nodded, taking out 10 dollars from his wallet and slapping it on (y/n)’s nightstand. “Bet.”
-
(y/n) chuckled to himself as Ben walked into the cafeteria the next day, Lia at his side and a big ol’ lipstick mark on his cheek, completely oblivious it was there. And Lia didn’t seem too bothered to try to remove it, humming happily to herself as she seemed to physically glow, her wings out and proud behind her.
(y/n) turned to Harry, wiggling his brows as Harry rolled his eyes, smacking his boyfriend gently on the chest. Evie glanced at them, sharing a look with Mal, Uma, Audrey, Jay, and Gil for a moment then looking back down at her breakfast, smiling behind her glass as she heard Carlos laugh with someone.
Maybe it was time to ‘hire’ some matchmakers.

Jim,
You contributed to my mental decline. And not taking that responsibility for your actions in this is absolutely WRONG of you.
You promised me a safe space. You cannot provide such a place because your mood swings are too violent and unpredictable for me. And they are triggering. Examples: what I see because I’m observant is this: Anger, frustration, snapping. All over little things that shouldn’t be a big deal.
1) you avoid situations. Convincing yourself you need to be fearful. This is probably my biggest problem with the majority of your behaviors. And it makes me a hostage to you and your feelings. I cannot move forward when you avoid me. This is a really big problem for your employees as well. Making Kavi and Em deal with your divorce because you didn’t want to was detrimental for you. You almost lost Kavi. I prevented that by telling you the truth, truth you were angry to hear. I love you enough to tell you when your behavior is affecting your employees. They feel like hostages to your mood swings too. FYI. I am a hostage to Angie’s schedule for getting my things back. Point here Jim is yesterday was three days. You didn’t contact me. What that behavior says to me is I have to wait on you. Something im not good at. Waiting for others to get their shit together. And you’re treating me like a dangerous animal. Something I don’t want or need from you.
2) BLAME: man this one is literally too much for me to bare. You blame me for your feelings and expect me just to fucking take it. This is something that not only I cannot take but isn’t ok from a friend let alone a lover. I WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR FEELINGS. THEY ARE YOURS AND HOW YOU EXPRESS THEM IS DAMAGING.
I have felt like an outsider in this relationship, especially since you and Angie just fell into a pattern and I was just supposed to go along with it. There was no real discussion, it was just you saying this works don’t fuck with it. I’m a guest. I can’t say it’s not working for me, because any time I bring up future plans you, snap at me, get frustrated with me and generally just fucking angry. You treat angie and I differently. You will talk to her. Me you snap, yell, get frustrated. Those actions have consequences, Jim. Just driving me further and further away. And i feel like you cannot be communicated with when you do those things. So when were you going to try to make me feel safe by discussing next steps for me? Anytime I brought it up I felt nothing but anger from you.You and Angie believe that there is a proper way to behave: rather than the mess that life is. I feel like anytime I didn’t comport to what YOU thought was right the two of you ganged up on me. My part in this was being very intimidated by the fact that both of you went to college. And that I just wasn’t smart enough. You and Angie are just now begging your journey to proper communication, something i have had to learn for the last 20 years. You two are too far behind me to make this work. I had the same problems in my marriage and obviously it makes me triggered when you treat me that way.
In this same vain on the shit show relationship we did have because of the lack of communication: I don’t feel like you really know anything about me. For if you did you’d understand that I won’t take communication from you through a third party because it’s such an issue for you to confront things. That I’m not as dangerous as your making me out to be. I’m in a home rn with a Marine who has guns and sharp knives and isn’t treating me like you are treating me. And yes he is aware that I tried to commit suicide. His wife slapped me and it felt like love. If I ever meant anything to you other than an avatar of sexuality then some kind of understanding and kindness was needed when you showed up to take me to the crisis center. But again all I faced was your anger. Seeing a pattern here yet, Jim, anger. It’s a theme with you. And it’s just not ok man.
Oh and the pregnancy scare: here is another situation where I felt alone. You were ANGRY!?!! Like what the actual fuck man?!? You cry and cry and cry over not being able to have children again. Here I think I may be pregnant and what a wonderful gift that would be for you, and for 10seconds before you became in raged I thought wow this might actually be fun with Jim. Then you dashed any sort of communication because you were angry and shut down. I had to suggest a pregnancy test. I had to go get it myself in the middle of the night. Like where were you in this situation? No where to be found. I had to handle it. Not the two of us.. just fucking me man. I found out I wasn’t. You asked me once how are you? Im not even sure you actually heard what I said about that situation then never checked in with me again on how I felt. I was devastated. Hurt. Angry. Sad. And above all things ALONE. Because my feelings didn’t really matter to you. Just how you felt. Jim, you asked me to go back to coming up just on weekends. Do you not remember that? You said that to me Monday night. That’s tantamount to saying to me: I love the sex but I hate everything else about you because I have shitty communication skills. You broke up with me when you asked things to go back to weekends and blamed me for not being able to move through your own feelings and get work done. I have told you over and over and over again BLAMING me was the wrong course of action. But it’s what you do. I have to learn to accept that. Because I see no progress to changing these behaviors. Sure you’re not crying over Ashley all the time. But you are angry and emotionally unstable. I see now what everyone went through before I started taking medication. I was exactly like you, frustrated and angry 75% of the time. That doesn’t happen to me as much unless I’m triggered or feel like I’m not being communicated with.
I refuse to be held hostage by your schedule or feelings. And you’re holding me hostage by not dealing with a situation you helped create with your anger and lack of communication. Please stop avoiding me.
I was FAWNING out. I made you more important than my feelings or wants or needs. That’s why I stepped up and broke up with you. Because you blamed me for not being able to work (cardinal sin in my opinion) and for the fact that you have a hard time processing feelings. You blamed me for that. That was absolutely WRONG of you. You have no compassion for me. And that’s something I desperately need rn.
I now have to set boundaries with you. Because I don’t see any other options for myself.
1) I don’t need you treating me like a dangerous animal.
2) your mood swings are dangerous for me. Especially when you lack communication skills that could work these things out.
3) I came out here for YOU. I left everything and anything that I have ever known to be here. And while I was in severe pain I pushed you away. I’m not asking for you to completely support me but I do need help until I get onto my feet. A plan from you on how you intend to complete this task is required.
4)I don’t like you telling my story for me. You leave out important information because you’re a writer. I’d like therapy sessions with Sabrina remotely.
5) once you have given me a plan, I will need it by end of business today. I will be blocking you. We can maybe try this friendship shit in 6 months. But until then I need space from your craziness. Until you have made some serious progress on communication it’s not healthy for me to be around you.
6) being among humans who can communicate has made me realize I’m not as crazy as your making me out to be.
The lawyer cost 447.00 not even $500 for me to get divorced.
I cannot get an apartment when you aren’t communicating with me. You said you’d help. But here is another situation where you are avoiding me and keeping me hostage to you.
Things need to be worked out. And I absolutely hate that you’re treating me like I’m a dangerous animal that wishes to hurt you. I don’t want to live in Aurora. In fact I don’t want to leave Ft. Collins. You’d know where I was if you checked my location. That I have never stopped sharing with you. Don’t know how to work it Angie does and she can show you.
Point here Jim is you made promises and your avoiding them.
Keeping me bound to you. Just step the fuck up so we can deal with this and be done with one another.

You've never been one for dramatics, but as you endure the last half hour of your shift on watch for the boys you're pretty sure that your fingers and toes have all frozen beyond repair. You watch the rain drip down the edge of your makeshift shelter, pulling your windbreaker tighter around you. Well, not your windbreaker. It's Frankie's, he had handed it off to you with a smile when you came to relieve him of his position on watch.
"Here," he says, stripping off his coat and handing it to you.
"No, Frankie I can't-"
"Take it," he insists, going so far as to drape it around your shoulders.
Every second that passes it gets harder for you to say no. "You'll be cold," your protest is weak, but you don't want him freezing to death in that tent with Santi before you can come join him.
"I'll be fine, Santi's a human heater." He chuckles and squeezes your arm, "you need it more than I do."
His smile was gentle and genuine, and deep down you know you could never say no to him. So you give in.
Now you're wearing Frankie's windbreaker. It smells ever so faintly of the cologne he often wears, this mission not yet having covered it up with the stink of mud and sweat. You're immensely grateful that you'll be sharing a tent with Frankie when this shift is finally over. Sure, Santi was a human heater, but with him it was sterile. You had laid back to back, huddled under the one thin blanket you had. And of course a bit of your gratitude is due to your long time crush on the sweet, scruffy pilot. You can't help it, really. Who wouldn't fall for him?
The sound of footsteps draws you attention and your hand gravitates to your gun as you listen closer. You know the boys' walking patterns by heart, a trick you've learned after months of working together. You recognize the footsteps to be Santi's and you let your guard back down with a sigh.
"You good?" he asks, eyes flitting down to where your hand has just drawn away from your gun.
You nod, scooting aside in the shelter so he can get out of the rain. "Yeah, just thought you were cartel for a second."
"Alright, you're dismissed kid," he claps you on the shoulder before sitting down on the rock the lean-to was built around. "Get some sleep, we set out at dawn."
"Aye aye, Garcia," you respond with a grin.
"Hey," he calls out after you. "And no funny business in that tent, you hear me?"
You turn bright red, grateful for the darkness to hide it. Santi knows about your feelings, you had stupidly confided in him one night a few weeks ago when you were drunk off your ass. You don't exactly regret it, though. Santi's a good listener, and he knows Frankie better than just about anyone else. You flip him the bird before turning on your heel and popping up the hood of Frankie's coat, hurrying back to the tent.
When you duck inside you see by dim light that Frankie's up, leaning back on his palms with the blanket pooled around his waist. You can just barely see the glint of his dog tags outside his shirt, resting against his sturdy chest. Fuck, the things this man does to your heart.
"Santi woke me up," he tells you, but you can't find even the slightest hint of sleep in his warm voice.
"What'd he do, step on you?" you ask with a playful smile.
He shrugs in return as you crouch down beside him, rubbing your hands together. "Yeah, something like that."
You can feel his eyes on you as you pull off your mud drenched shoes. Your hands are shaking and the laces are giving you hell. "You're shivering," he observes, his tone gentle.
"No shit, 'Cisco," you reply, no real malice in your tone. You can never be mad at Frankie, he's too sweet. Even when he's done something to legitimately puss you off like steal your sandwich, when he throws that goddamn smile your way, you melt.
You finally get your boots off with a triumphant yelp and Frankie chuckles. You hear him shuffling around as you lay down, leaving a good few inches of space between you and him. But before you can even close your eyes, Frankie protests.
"Oh hell no, we are not doing this like Santi did. Come on, scooch closer." Your stomach flips when you move closer, your hand brushing his wrist. "Jesus! Your hands are like ice!"
"Sorry," you apologize, tucking your arm up against your body. It had only been an instant, but when your fingers had brushed his skin you could have cried at how warm he was.
"No, no, c'mere," he murmurs, his hand reaching over and landing on your waist. "I can't have you freezing to death."
Before you can protest, his strong hands have flipped you over so you're laying halfway on top of him. His chest is warm and sturdy underneath you, the smell of his cologne faint but present, and intoxicating as hell. You can't help but tense up as he finishes fixing the blanket over you.
His arms wrap around your back, holding you in place. "Relax," he murmurs, his lips dangerously close to your ear. "We're professionals-" "Professionals?" you echo with a small laugh.
"Yeah, professionals." You can hear the smile in his voice. "We can cuddle for warmth without any hard feelings, right?"
"Right…" you answer, but your voice is small. You're scared of how close he is, how easy it would be to get used to this.
"Sleep well," Frankie murmurs.
As nervous as you are, exhaustion begins to tug at your eyelids. You're slipping closer and closer to sleep with every passing second. The steady rise and fall of his chest beneath you is so comforting, the embrace of his arms so warm. The effort to stay awake is nearly dizzying, and finally you give in.
Then, teetering on the edge of the cliff of unconsciousness, you feel it. Frankie's lips press against your forehead, gentle but firm. "I don't know what I'm gonna do with you sweetheart." You tense, and so does Frankie. "Fuck- I thought you were asleep."
You push yourself up onto your forearms, looking into his eyes in the dim light. He looks so small underneath you, so nervous. Nothing like the Frankie you know. Those deep brown eyes are wide, unblinking. They lock with yours. Neither of you are able to look away.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-" he starts, but you shush him.
"Shut up Francisco, I liked it."
"You-" he's shocked, sitting up and leaning back on his palms. "You did? I didn't fuck things up?"
You sit up too, knees on either side of his thighs. Your hands come to rest on his chest and you can feel his heartbeat through the fabric of his shirt. "Yeah, I liked it."
"And… would you want me to do it again?" he raises an eyebrow, still clearly nervous. That's what you love so much about him. He's sweet, a true gentleman. That's what sets him apart. Any of the other boys would've already gone in for the kiss, no questions asked. But Frankie… he's different. He's a little quiet, a little reserved.
You reach out to tuck a stray curl behind his ear. "Yeah, I'd like that," you whisper, just loud enough for him to hear. "And do it for real this time," you add with a smile.
"As you wish."
His lips meet yours, velvet soft and warm just like the rest of him. Your eyes close instantly and you bring your hand to the back of his neck, fingers playing with the hairs at his nape. The kiss is unlike any you could have ever imagined, gentle and sweet. You feel like, to him, you are precious.
End.

lol i thought i was going to make it through this episode without thoughts but...oswald and jim at arkham!!! oswald looked so over the moon when jim acknowledged him and had the orderlies bring him to him, like you could see that he thought jim was going to be his savior
but then it’s predictable, ivory tower jim gordon with the “it’s therapy. you’re insane, remember? that’s what your lawyers said anyhow”. EXCUSE ME JIM what you rather the lawyers have said? that their defendant is actually taking the fall for you? what a dick thing to say
okay so obviously i love the way alfred just *does not care about standard conventions* when it comes to looking after/raising bruce, but when he made bruce promise not to kill his parents’ murderer, and instead declared that HE’D be the one to do the killing...that was honestly so sweet and so alfred
i do like how victor isn’t super interested in harming civilians (outside of his test subjects), or even the arkham inmates. this dude said ‘a~c~a~b’ and stuck by it
ohhh my god i can’t believe i’m tearing up at everything nora. send help i’m having emotions. she is so sweet and victor loves her SO much and she loves HIM so much and ohHH my gaaahhd they are perfect
jim. what can i say about jim? other than he is *jean ralphio singing* the woooorst~ lee is trying to have an actual conversation with him about his dishonesty and instead of, you know, talking to her, he grabs his coat and fucks right off. HAS HE LEARNED NOTHING FROM HIS FAILED RELATIONSHIP WITH BARBARA? oooo i’m incensed. i had rage about their argument back in early s1, and now we’re seeing that not much has changed. he’s still utter shit at communication. at actually letting his partner, his significant other, into his life. be better jim
ALFRED YOU OLD CAT. FUCK ‘EM UP. YOU ARE A BADASS
“will a check be alright?” bruce, you small child. you are but a baby boy. just a small small boy. i weep for you.
jeri’s club looks fuckin’ poppin
the shiny shoes!!! got ‘im. BUT, that aside, the whole matches scene...i’m always like “ehh alright”. it’s underwhelming and bruce gets nothing out of it, and it’s super annoying. if he was going to kill himself anyway, why didn’t he just tell bruce who hired him? killer’s code my ass
ed's paranoia will be his downfall. (and that’s not like, me being cautionary...that’s me being realistic because we KNOW what happens next) i’m like, shaking my head at his little monologue at the gcpd rn. and at the fruity little question mark he drew over jim’s photo. shaking my damn head (!!)

Happy Holidays @luescris ! i was your secret santa. hope your winter is full of love and light! accompany fic under cut :)
The color of the door leached onto Jim’s first, hovered over it. He could see his old face in the reflection of the shiny paint. His face. Apparently, he had a scar over his right brow. That was new. But he same brilliant blue eyes. Haunted. Lively. And no longer those of a child. They hadn’t been for a long while now.
He couldn’t imagine what his mother would be like once that door was opened. Would she still be the same mom? He wasn’t the same him anymore. Older, mature, broken. Would she be just as happy as ever? Did she even miss him?  Sure she called him every day for the first week he was gone but she slowly drifted away, and now a call from his mother was a rare thing. She would always begin her calls with an apology. She was busy raising a gaggle of changeling familiars, she was busy rebuilding her relationship with Walt, and she was happy. He wanted her to be happy, it’s not like she needed him to be happy, but at the same time, he wanted her to miss him. He missed her. Some sick part of him wanted her life to be joyless without him. He supposed that made him a bad person, a bad son. He’d been a bad son a lot lately.
He couldn’t bring himself to knock. He was just standing here, alone at the door, trying to gather any courage he had left to just knock on that door. Fighting trolls? There’s nothing to it. Sacrificing himself for the greater good? Easy like pie. Coming home to his mother’s loving arms? Somehow the most frightening thing he’s done all week.
She loved him. He was still her little baby boy. She would most likely be overjoyed at his return. He wouldn’t put it past her to fawn over him all day. Cancel all her plans and spend the day with him. She’d try her best and make Jim his favourite meal. It wouldn’t be good, but at least his mother made it for him. Deya, he missed food. Barabara would greet him like he’d been gone for years and not a few months. As soon as the door was opened, he would be smothered in her motherly embrace. Barbara might not even let go for hours. And he didn’t want her too. He couldn’t wait to hear her scream laugh and smell the perfume in her hair. But then she would ask questions.
What was he even supposed to say to her. What was he even supposed to say to himself. He was having a hard time with this. Everything he’d worked for was gone. His career was over. He couldn’t protect his people anymore. Where was he supposed to go from here. He was weak, and he had nothing to show for his efforts. Nothing but a few loyal friends and a new blood-stained and borrowed sword. It wasn’t even balanced in his hand. Danger was eminent. The threat to the entire world, reality as they knew it, never left. And Jimbo was knocked back to level one again.
He could feel Excalibur’s weight on his shoulders. It might as well had been a feather, compared to the weight he already carried. Young Atlas, always with the world on his back, slowing crushing him minute by grueling minute. He was going to get scoliosis at this rate. But he couldn’t stand it if anyone else would have to do it. It was his burden. He had to keep them safe.
He wondered how Strickler would take his return. He still wasn’t happy about that bastard moving in with his mother, but he supposed he would be civil to his less-than respected father figure. Strickler knew more than anyone of his pain. To be both man and troll. To be forced one way of the other. And Strickler knew what it was like to love Barbara. Jim would tolerate Strickler, if only because they both loved his mother.
The question he knew they would immediately ask, and one he couldn’t avoid any longer, would be how. And how indeed. No one was quite sure what happened to be honest. One moment he was a statue fit for a palace’s garden and the next he was alive in Claire’s weeping arms. All they knew is that she somehow did it. Somehow Claire, his beautiful magical love of his life, brought him back in her sorrow and desperation. Her magic was in his veins. His magic was in his veins. He was still a troll, in a sense, a creature of pure magic, spellbound. Jim wished Claire was by his side now, it would make this all easier. Her presence makes everything easier. She’d squeeze his hand and everything would be alright. She was just comfort incarnate for him at this point.
He still hadn’t completely comprehended that he legitimately died earlier this morning. Or that he was human now. Or that he was back to square one. When did his life fall apart. He knew that he’d get through this, he was a warrior, he always did, but he couldn’t see a path as to how. His future was shrouded in fog, like those nightmares he used to have. Jim could only hope that it wouldn’t end as badly. He could only hope he’d be able to keep protecting the ones he loves. He’d fight tooth and nail for it.
So he did it. He took his fist and he knocked on that door. For an agonizing few moments, he had no answer. He considered they might not even be home. But then, he could hear footsteps get closer and closer and closer until the barrier between him and his mother was ripped away from his sight. She stood before him, disheveled, with a sprig out hair standing straight up and her glasses crooked, but there she was. She looked him up and down, and her eyebrows knit into an expression of confusion for a split second before she threw her arms around her son.
There was no need for explanation, Barbara accepted that her son was back and was going to make sure no one would take him away from her again. She was weeping, and Jim felt her tears on his shoulder. He squeezed her tighter, closer to him. He was flesh now after all, he could hold humans as tight as he wanted to. Barbara’s knees were giving out, and Jim followed her down to kneel, not breaking their embrace. She laced her fingers through the back of her son’s hair. It was longer than she remembered. This boy in her arms was different, but still her Jim. Her son had returned to her, just like he had promised. She tried to say something but all that came out was a desperately sobbed “J-im. You’re—ho-home.”
“Yeah, Mom, I’m home,” He kissed the top of his mother’s head. “I’m home.”

im definitely not ripping off my friend by making a list of au ideas i have no siree //gonna slap this under a readmore cause i. well i say a lot. all of the time. i tried so hard to format this Good but tumblr fucked me up i am so sorry
so first-off i know i already have one WIP AU (Auckland) on ao3 so i wont talk about That one cause like. spoilers. i actualyl have it like 80% created so its likely gonna truly get finished for once and i dont wanna ruin shit
the other one ive posted about is something me and ben (catgirlrepublic) have worked on together its not at all close to done or anything but it's. a fun little crossover. Between jdate and my fuckinuhm. Original characters story “Untitled Villains Project”. the sketches of the comic version ive started is actually my pinned post 👉👈 its like the first chunk of the story, i think half of part 1? yea.
Tldr john fucking Somehow is able t oget into contact with a certain curious scientist from another reality who’d just love to study the Soy Sauce, most certainly not for her own nefarious purposes
John and Dave meet up with the scientist, her name is Boss, and her lab assistant, Toxic, and after a bit of a preliminary Vibe Check where john determines her trustworthy (which Dave doesnt agree with,) the two agree to be taken to the world UVP is set in. from there they stay in Boss’s lab (big old fucking abandoned military lab). John and Toxic are fast friends due to mutual love-of-chaos. John n Dave get to fuckin, camp out on an air mattress.
The day after they arrive, the two get split up, not exactly intentionally; big plot points of UVP are liek. Fueled by Boss sending Toxic to go fetch her “research materials,” which are usually important artifacts
Fuckin side note i guess i have to explain my dumb bullshit: Boss’s, uh, field of expertise so to speak is actually fckin, basically the scientific study of magic and superpowers n shit like that. This shit’s all real in that world. Toxic’s got fuckin superpowers, so do 4 other main characters, whatever. It’s got a bit to do with spirituality, iss Boss’s hypothesis. So she has Toxic fetch important artifacts that might have “energies” to them. The thing is actually way more fuckin complictated than that, this is just Boss’s initial hypothesis.
Motherfucking anyways. So Boss gives Toxic a job to do, and John get excited about how Cool that sounds, and ends up going with Toxic, leaving Boss and Dave alone. Neither is thrilled about this. But Dave and Boss get to have a bit of conversation (while Toxic and John are off bonding and having a good time) and come to a… mutual grudging understanding of some kind. They still dont like each other though lmao
Theres gonna be deeper shit going on but we havent sorted it out yet/tbh havent like Written For It in a while but i still like thinking about it a lot lol
Also pretty sure our endgame is john and dave steal toxic and bring them back with em lmao boss is kind of not nice and toxic would most certainly be better off in Undisclosed. Actually theyd fucking love it. Theyd become a local cryptid im sure. Undisclosed’s mothman is a teleporting spike baby.
I have. Another crossover AU that i might. Post something about for halloween? Maybe? If i have it finished?
Crosses over into, you guessed it, another one of my original-character projects. God, am i vain or something?
I promise this is just because i think blue and dave should get to team up to beat up some monsters
Quick briefing on my fuckinuh. Original character story, this one doesnt have a name (yet? Idk lol my work never actually goes anywhere sso who gives a shit). It centers around two grim reapers, Red (26, bi woman) and Blue (22, aroace agender asshole). In this reality or whatever, grim reapers function kind of like low-level office workers. They get told who’s going to die + when by some middle-management types, and upper management only involve themselves when punishment needs to be doled out. These Higher-Ups can be seen as analogous to Korrok; they’re decidedly not human, never were, and fucking terrifyingly powerful. Additionally, grim reapers are sort of .. designed to be “background noise” people. In reality theyre supernatural beings and, uh, look Real Fuckin Weird (the whole deal has a neon aesthetic im terrible at drawing uwu) but most humans just perceive them like extras in a movie. A body’s there but the camera’s not focused on it.
To the narrative: the shit starts when Red n Blue get relocated to Undisclosed. Relocation is something that just happens every now and then to reapers; they usually work in teams, but they get split up into different cities to avoid any strong bonds forming (a counter-union strategy from the Higher-Ups).
Red, Blue, John and Dave end up running into each other for the first time in a McDonalds where John n Dave are getting some 4am “hey, we just survived another horrific monster fight” celebration burgers. John and Dave are the only two people who can see how… strange Red and Blue are. Nobody else notices.
John unintentionally pisses Blue off, leading to Blue whacking him upside the head with a dildo bat. They all four get kicked out of McDonald’s. Dave and Red both are less than thrilled
Blue and John end up resolving their differences, somehow. Red and Dave briefly bond over their dumbass best friends being, well, dumbasses. They all part ways amicably.
somehow-or-other (idk yet) they end up running into each other a few more times, and eventually john invites them over to his place, and the four (plus Amy now!) get to know each other a little better
while there, Blue gets a text about some guy who's gonna die and John offers to drive them to where that's gonna go down. they take him up on the offer and get to have a bit of one-on-one conversation
after that ordeal though Blue has had Enough of people and bails, leaving John to head home alone
theres a sort of mirror-development going on with the five of em. Red, John, and Amy would all like everyone to get along, though theyre a bit tentative about it (John moreso than the other two, actually, jsut cause. well Red n Blue could still be Sauce Monsters). Dave and Blue on the other hand do Not like people enough for this shit, and Dave's not unconvinced theyre Sauce Monsters. he will not trust them until proven he should
the story's kinda nebulous but i got an idea for some Shit going down that involves both Sauce Monsters and also the Higher-Ups to have some fuckin absolute chaos go down.
Oops! All Trans
Everybody is transgender. Everyone
Ive actually workshopped this one both with ben (catgirlrepublic) and ghost (ghost-wannabe) lmao its a fun lil concept ive had from the get-go cause i mean. What’s an internet tran gonna do other than hit all their favourite media with the Everyone’s Trans beam
Dave transitioned post-high school and faked his death for it. People go missing in Undisclosed all the damned time, after all. He moved to the next city over, transitioned fully, then came back as a completely new man. Yes i know this doesnt exactly fit with the “everyone knows David from high school” thing alright, hush.
Anytime anyone brings up John’s old best friend (pre-transition Dave) John throws an entire fit like an overdramatic grieving widow. Full-on sobbing “why would you bring her up?! I miss her so much—” to the point that people just stop bringing up because Jesus Christ That Sure Is Uncomfortable KJHGFDS.
This is a scheme he and Dave came up with prior to Dave leaving, though Dave hadnt exactly anticipated John putting on this much of a performance about it— but it’s stopped Dave from ever having tto hear his deadname again, so hey.
Amy transitioned sometime in middle school/early high school. Her family was super supportive and loved her a ton and most people just know her as Amy. she was super shy her whole life really so. Yeah. people just dont think to bring it up lmao also i Feel Like big jim would absolutely wallop anyone who gave her trouble of any kind
John’s nonbinary (genderfluid specifically) and not exactly Interested in transitioning ? like hes fine with how he is. mostly.
he came out to Dave in high school but hes not out to anyone else exactly. Maybe his bandmates. Probably any other trans person in Undisclosed knows, too, cause theyre safe to tell lmao. Johns mostly a “he/him out of convenience” kinda nb who’s cool with any pronouns but does prefer they/them most. Dave and Amy use they/them when the trio are alone
Also this is a totally self-indulgent caveat that i think would be great, Dave’s actually agender but because he's transmasc and transitioned when he thought there were really only two options, and being Boy at least felt less weird than being Girl, he just kind of assumed he was a dude. It’s only through a lot of (like fucking years and years hes probably in his 30s/40s when he puts 2 and 2 together on this one) talks about gender with John that he realizes he actually feels like No Gender. Masc aesthetic with none gender.
I Just Think It’d Be Neat Is All Okay
Also Amy came out to Dave about being trans early on in them seeing each other and his response was to get very nervous before blurting out “me too” and then just being too embarrassed to talk about it for the rest of the day. Hes got a lot of hangups on talking about it actually it takes years for him to get comfortable in that
by contrast when Amy comes out to John about it his response is to yell “EYYY ME TOO” and give her a big ol hug lmao
I think itd be neatt if Amy ran a like. Transfem help/advice blog on tumblr. Kind of helped-with by John who can give her transfem nb insight for certain asks. I also just think that would be neat.
Cowboy AU - i put this one last cause its got drawings to it actually. Theyll be at the bottom
Basically just. Hey you ever watched a western. I think they look neat
This is another one me n ben have come up with lol
The soy sauce and all that shit still exist, im not sure where korrok fits in yet but ill figure it out
Theres no real like solid narrative yet ? but heres the barebones of everybody’s arcs.
John
Johns an absolute troublemaker, Of Course. Hes wanted in several towns for absolutely stupid shit. Hes a loner who shows up, causes chaos, gets drunk, does some drugs, runs away if people get too mad at him
He definitely had the same kind of deal with the soy sauce as in canon— he was at some kind of party, somebody offered it, he took it cause why the fuck wouldnt he, now he can see monsters and shit
Hes kind of a mooch also. Like. dont let him stay in your barn man he’ll never fucking leave and drink all your booze.
He runs into Dave when they happen to just, cross paths in the same town. the bullshit John stirs up ends up involving Dave in a way that makes it seem like it's his fault too, and they both get run out of town
after that he just tags along after Dave. hes decided this guy's Cool he wants to stick around. Dave is pissed at first, but not enough to shoot him or anything, and eventually, John grows on him
Dave
Dave also is a loner but unlike John hes simply so fucking awkward and bad with people. He doesnt feel like he belongs anywhere so he just travels
He’s the stereotypical Lone Ranger tbh. He wanders from town to town, solving their problems, though hed deny its out of any moral obligation (it kinda is, a little bit, tbh. He does like feeling useful). He shows up, fixes things, leaves. He's kind of a legend but most people think he's hiding something dark. other people jsut know him as that guy who farted real loud in the middle of the saloon and promptly skipped town out of sheer embarrassment. you know how it goes with Dave
He ends up involved with the Soy Sauce when a snake (not Actually a snake,) bites him. The snake’s more like the wig-monsters, really. Anyway, it injects him with the soy sauce, he fucking trips balls in the middle of the desert, he can see monsters now
He runs into John and shit goes tits-up, as said, but they become traveling buddies after that. he'd never say so, but he's glad for the company, actually. it's nice. hes not used to companionship but he feels a strange kind of easiness hanging out with John....
not sure how the Monster Dave concept will like fit in to this reality but like. trust me i want it in here. I'll Figure It Out.
Amy
Amy’s been living in a town John and Dave end up passing through and she is very curious about these two new Handsome Strangers who claim to fight monsters and just kinda. Persistently tags along til they let her join for real
Her family’s all dead, unfortunately, just like in canon, and she’s been living alone for a few years before meeting John n Dave. she had nothing left in that town to stay for, she'd been fantasizing about escaping on wild adventures for a long time and this felt a little like a dream come true. (Dave still gives her a spiel about how Difficult it is, but really, her fantasies were pretty grounded-in-reality already. i jsut think thats how she is, yknow?)
Shes the first person to react to the whole “we see monsters” shit with a kind of “oh, okay. neat” kind of response lmao
John and Dave fix whatever the fuck is up with her town (maybe that’s where the Korrok shit can fit, who knows) and Amy ends up being integral to that. After, she insists they take her with them because “they need her now” and Dave just cant really say no. John too is very much "the more the merrier!" and hes actually glad to have another person along he loves people lmao
At the start she has long hair but after she joins them she chops it short with a knife for convenience
also she still is an amputee. justt. idk. it was a wagon/stagecoach accident rather than a car accident lmao. just to clarify since i hadnt mentioned it, i wouldnt rob her of her ghost hand or yknow. all of the significance to her character that Missing A Hand has. although also now im going to have to research what was used as painkillers way-back-when, but im betting shes still got, like, her pain pills, they probably had those, maybe i wouldnt have to try too hard there. old timey medicine could be WACK though,
Shitload
Yeah hes in tthis shit mostly cause i liked designing his cowboy self lmao
Hes a kid (like 16, 17, technically i think in those days that was more Young Man than Kid but whatever. Hes Young i mean.) who got possessed by the Worms out in the desert and, by his family’s perception, just went missing!
Hes also a wanderer, but he ended up at the same town john and dave met in, at that same time, and starts following them after, already aware of who/what they are.
He keeps his face covered 24/7. actually he covers a Majority of his self for reasons. kinda want him to be a slightly more horrifying Worm Entity rather than human idk,
I kinda dont have much for this boy yet sorry Shitload
images !
Tumblr media
with some editing notes for me cause im doing a very specific aesthetic with this lmao. i might change some lil details/colours though ...... idk
Tumblr media
im also kinda 🤔 about shitload's colour palette. i want things assoicated w the sauce to be black'n'red predominantly but i think his palette might mirror dave's too closely. also im working on a korrok design i jsut am too busy to draw it now

It’s May 25th, 1984, and Roger and John are in Perth, Australia to promote Queen’s eleventh album, The Works.
Interviewer, daytime television host Ronald Inglewood: “Good morning and welcome to our viewers across Australia! We’re sitting down this morning with Roger Taylor and John Deacon, respectively the drummer and bassist of Queen, who are here to talk about the band’s brand new album called—quite self-assuredly, if I may say so, gentlemen—The Works. Hello to you both.”
Roger: “Good morning, Ron!”
John: “Hello.”
Interviewer: “And this latest album has been rather well-received so far, is that right?”
Roger: “It has, yes, and we’re enormously proud of it.”
Interviewer: “Now, The Works is a very different album than Hot Space, Queen’s sort of notorious foray into disco...do you think the back-to-basics, classic rock and roll feel of The Works has been the driving force behind its success?”
Roger: “Well, you know...I think experimentation is very important. We’ve always been an experimental band. The single Bohemian Rhapsody was hugely experimental, and that’s why it was such a phenomenon. We were experimenting long before A Night At The Opera, and I suspect we’ll keep on trying new things until we run out of ideas, whenever that is! I didn’t love every song on Hot Space, I’ll be completely transparent about that, but I certainly don’t think the album was a failure or a waste of time. It was an experiment. And The Works is an experiment as well, just one that runs in a different vein, I suppose.”
John: “Some people did actually enjoy Hot Space.”
Roger: “I think I know one or two.”
Interviewer: “Of course, it did have its bright spots. Under Pressure remains one of Queen’s biggest hits, doesn’t it?”
Roger: “Yes, and John wrote the bassline for that one!”
Interviewer: “Really?!”
John: “And Roger has his own hit on The Works, at last. We’re all very happy for him.”
Roger: “Only took ten years.”
John: “Fourteen, actually.”
Roger: “I’m going to murder you as soon as we get backstage.”
John: “You’re welcome to try.”
Interviewer: “Now this hit of yours, Roger, is Radio Ga Ga. And I’m sure we’ve all seen the famous music video, the hovercraft, the futurism, the clapping...we’ve all seen it, right? Where on earth did you get the idea for that song?”
Roger: “It actually originated from something I heard my daughter Violet say.”
Interviewer: “Fascinating! And you’ve just welcomed another one recently, haven’t you?”
Roger: “Yes, last month, in fact. A little girl named Nora. “
Interviewer: “Congratulations!”
Roger: “Thanks so much, Ron. Our eldest, Violet, turned two in January, and the idea for Radio Ga Ga came about when she was first learning to talk. She would always stumble around—you know how babies do—clapping her hands and squealing the most nonsensical things, and one day she started trying out ‘radio’ and then adding random words to it, ‘radio goo goo,’ ‘radio mama,’ ‘radio dada,’ etcetera. Well ‘radio ga ga’ got stuck in my head and I started sort of lamenting how television had begun to eclipse the radio as a medium for music and entertainment. We were on vacation in California at the time, and I locked myself in a hotel room with a keyboard and a drum machine to get it written. I initially thought it might end up on one of my solo albums, but then John heard it and wrote a bassline, and Freddie really thought it could be a hit and pushed to have it on The Works...and here we are today!”
Interviewer: “That Freddie Mercury has awfully good instincts about these things, doesn’t he?”
John: “Oh, he’s a genius, no doubt about that.”
Interviewer: “And John, I understand you wrote the other single released from The Works, I Want To Break Free. Any deep philosophical messaging in that one?”
John: “Well I suppose we’ve all been in situations that feel...rather constraining or hopeless. And then things that bring us back to life again. So this song is about a character going through that process and coming out on the other side.”
Interviewer: “Indeed.”
John: “But we wanted to keep things amusing and lighthearted in the music video, hence the dressing in drag bit. And to our absolute horror, Roger was very alluring as a schoolgirl.”
Roger: “It’s true. I have irresistible legs. I was born to wear miniskirts.”
Interviewer: “Ah, this is the music video that is beloved in Europe and here in Australia but has stirred up so much controversy over in the States. Has the hullabaloo dampened your enthusiasm for the song, or even the entire album, somewhat?”
Roger: “We’re not bothered much at all, to be honest with you. It’s like I said, Queen is always going to have fun and experiment and take creative risks. And if people don’t like it, then they’re welcome to not listen.”
Interviewer: “Yes, yes, I suppose you could say that.”
Roger: “Americans, you know, they can just be so bloody puritanical. It absolutely takes all the enjoyment out of life. All the humor. Americans these days can be very difficult for us to connect with.”
John: “Well, not all of them.”
Roger: “No, of course, not all of them.”
John: “But we’ll start touring at the end of August, and we’ll be spending several months in the States, so they have time to come around to us. We’re all really looking forward to being on the road again.”
Interviewer: “It has certainly been and will continue to be a very eventful year for Queen. And for the four of you personally. A new baby for Roger, and you’ve just gotten married, haven’t you John?”
John: “I did, yes. And Roger was in attendance! No miniskirt that day, though. Sadly.”
Roger: “The whole band was there. And my girlfriend and children too. It was quite a party.”
Interviewer: “That’s wonderful to hear, considering the...the...well, not to bring up tabloid gossip, but the complexity of the situation. It was a destination wedding, wasn’t it?”
John: “Yes, we were married in the Basilica di Santa Croce in Florence, Italy. It’s breathtaking, the largest Franciscan church in the world, built in the 1300s. And we filled it with friends and family and live music and flowers and food...all the trappings. Took about a million photos. Celebrated until dawn.”
Roger: “It was a very sentimental occasion. Everyone really enjoyed it. John cried.”
John: “I did, it’s true.”
Roger: “He promised he wouldn’t and then he did.”
John: “Well, you don’t have to bring it up all the time!”
Roger: “It was touching, really.”
Interviewer: “It must have been a magical time. You’re positively radiant, John! Marvelous. And some much-needed good news, I imagine. I understand you’ve recently gone through an exceptionally antagonistic and protracted divorce.”
John: “Well...uh...I suppose that’s...uh...”
Roger: “How about we ask you the same thing? How was your divorce, Ron?”
Interviewer: “What?”
Roger: “You’re on your third marriage, is that right? And I think I heard that the latest Mrs. Inglewood is very young indeed, almost thirty years your junior. How did your former wife take that news? How did your adult children? How was your goddamn divorce?”
Interviewer: “That’s a rude question.”
Roger: “Yes, you’re right, it’s an extremely rude question. So you shouldn’t fucking ask it.”
~~~~~~~~~~
It’s December 25th, 1986, and the children are tearing open presents under a fifteen-foot-tall Christmas tree in the living room of Garden Lodge.
Freddie and Jim Hutton are serving cookies and milk and clapping their hands as they tower over tiny shoulders, cheering the kids on as they litter the floor with wrapping paper and bows and scatter their new toys everywhere: Care Bears, Magic 8 Balls, My Little Ponies, Mr. Potato Heads, Barbies, Etch-A-Sketches, Transformers, miniature Lukes and Leias and Chewbaccas, View-Masters with scenes of oceans and deserts and forests and stars. With so many fragmented families, there was only one logical approach to handling major holidays: convincing everyone to celebrate together on neutral ground.
Mary and Veronica are chatting by the roaring fireplace. Phoebe, Joe Fanelli, John, and Roger are embroiled in a brutally competitive Scrabble game; Dominique, smirking stealthily, leans over Roger to read his tiles and periodically whispers ideas to him. Brian and Anita are circling the flock of giggling children—Laszlo, Anna, Teddy, Evelyn, Lena, Antoni, Violet, and Nora—and snapping photos with your Canon between long, yearning gazes at one another, wearing matching Christmas sweaters that are a deep, passionate crimson. Chrissie’s husband Denny is admiring Freddie’s extensive vinyl record collection as he sips a hot chocolate and compulsively strokes his green-and-red striped tie. Tiffany the cat rolls around between his feet and occasionally hisses or gnaws on an ankle, which Denny takes in stride, as he does most things.
Meanwhile, you and Chrissie are camped out by the wet bar, drinking mulled wine and nibbling on cookies shaped like snowmen and reindeer. You give Veronica a wide berth with the children anytime you’re in the same space; she hates you, and she’ll probably always hate you, but she loves her children too much to poison them with that reality. Their happiness is her whole life, her purpose. And that’s the only thing that finally convinced her to come to the bargaining table.
“She seems...nice,” you tell Chrissie, gesturing to where Anita is crouching to wrestle a Yoda piggy bank away from Antoni before he can lob Teddy on the head with it. To John’s children, Veronica is “mum” and you’re the distinctly more American “mama”; and no one ever really taught them that, they just started doing it somewhere along the way.
Chrissie rolls her eyes and shifts Stevie to her other hip. For two and a half years after leaving Brian, Chrissie made it her mission to date at least one man from every country in Europe. She managed to cross off Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Portugal, Poland, and Greece before meeting professional archer Dennis Clarke at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. They got engaged at Christmas, eloped on New Year’s Day, and had a daughter that Chrissie named after Stevie Nicks nine months later. Stevie Clarke has adorably chubby baby legs, wide blue eyes, and blonde hair without a single spiraled ringlet.
“My therapist said I needed to cultivate a rapport with Brian for the good of the kids,” Chrissie says. “You know. Be the bigger person. Get amnesia and forget about how he made my life a living hell. Act like I don’t want to freaking decapitate him. So I, trying to be nice, trying to rise above and make polite small talk with my nauseating ex-husband, made a comment about how much I liked EastEnders. So he starts watching EastEnders. Then he begins to fancy one of the actresses. Then he meets her at a movie premier in Beverly Hills and invites her to the concert at Wembley. Then he ends up in love with the woman. What the fuck. You couldn’t write this shit.”
“Love is a roulette wheel,” you agree.
Chrissie scoffs sardonically. “Yeah. Russian roulette, maybe.”
After his marriage fell apart, Brian bounced between New Orleans and London, liberated bliss and aimless, disgraced, black depression. Whoever Peaches is as a person, she couldn’t tame Brian’s demons. You worried about him almost constantly until he started seeing Anita. She’s cheerful and magnetic and persistently hopeful in a way that reminds you of Roger. She’s good for Brian. She’s good for all of you. Well...Chrissie is still coming around to the idea.
“I do like that she wasn’t fucking my husband behind my back,” Chrissie muses. “So that’s something.”
“And she’s good with the kids.”
“True...”
“And her hair matches Brian’s.”
Chrissie laughs. Her sparkling ornament earrings jangle, and Stevie paws for them with minuscule, uncoordinated, wrinkly hands. “Okay. You win. I don’t despise her.”
“That’s the Christmas spirit.” You knock back the rest of your mulled wine. “I’m gonna go search the refrigerator for cheese cubes, you want anything?”
“Yeah, a Valium.”
“Slavic Jesus would be horrified. And on his birthday!”
Chrissie grins. “Surely drugs would be the least of our sins.”
Freddie’s sunshine-yellow refrigerator is enormous and a labyrinth of shelves and crevices without a single tray of cheese cubes in sight. You sift through jars of olives, bottles of champagne, a glazed ham waiting to be put in the oven, a sack of yams, eggnog, rising bread dough, and numerous pies—apple and cherry and lemon chiffon, naturally—swathed in aluminum foil.
“Damn,” you mutter, and then you try a mysterious drawer beneath the double doors of the refrigerator. Lo and behold, it contains a sprawling tray of cheeses. “Yaaaaassssss.” You lift the tray out, set it on the kitchen counter, and peel back the clear, clinging saran wrap. As you spear cheese cubes with a decorative toothpick—the handle is a little plastic Christmas tree—and plop them onto an appetizer plate, you hear the click of heels on the hardwood floor behind you.
You glance back. “Hi, Dom. Can I offer you any of Fred’s extremely expensive and exotic cheeses?”
“Sure,” she replies in that effortlessly elegant French accent; but that’s not why she’s here. She’s wringing her delicate hands, which are bronzed from her last holiday to Ibiza and ringless. Dom divorced the husband she had back in France—or maybe he divorced her, who knows, that’s not your business, although Roger would tell you if you ever asked—and she and Roger signed papers for the good of their daughters. But being Roger Taylor’s wife is not always such an easy thing.
“He’s getting bad again, isn’t he?” you ask softly.
Dominique nods; but you already knew.
Roger was perfect for years after they had Violet: attentive, content, startlingly domestic. He rarely popped pills. He went to physical therapy. He quit smoking six months ago at Dominique’s insistence, around the same time John quit for you. But since the Magic Tour ended in August—and with no new tour in sight, considering Freddie’s seeming reticence about scheduling another—he’s started to drink more, stay home less, disappear at night citing dinners or parties or recording sessions that Dom isn’t invited to. He’s edgy and irritable. He’s rarely home when John calls. And you can see all those immortal shadows of imperfection creeping back into him like storm clouds, like smoke.
“I’m going to tell you something,” you say. “It’s very similar to what somebody else once told me. I wasn’t ready to understand it yet, to really let myself feel it, to believe it, but you might be able to.”
She watches you with those vast oil-well eyes, biting her lower lip, waiting.
“Roger is wildfire. He’s bright, yes, he’s warm, but he’s reckless and insatiable too. He always has been. He always will be. And that has nothing at all to do with you. It’s not your fault. He’s wonderful, of course, and you already know that; he dazzles people, he makes life so exhilaratingly beautiful that you forget what it felt like without him. But he’ll always disappoint you. He’ll relapse, he’ll cheat, he’ll come home late, he won’t come home at all. And he’ll hurt you. He’ll do it as many times as you’ll let him. But here’s the thing other people won’t tell you.” You smile at her, with empathy, with sorrow, with hope. “It might still be worth it.”
Dominique blinks, not understanding.
“It might be enough for you to only ever have part of him, because that part is so incredibly brilliant. It was almost enough for me. And I would never blame you for leaving Roger. But I wouldn’t blame you for staying either.”
And then you embrace her, and she latches onto you, her long manicured nails nipping through your sweater, her Coco Chanel perfume a plume that fills the kitchen. She doesn’t say anything. She doesn’t have to. You hold her until she pulls away, swiping at her tearing eyes with slim fragile fingers, sniffling, looking away to hide her heartbreak behind her shock of glossy bangs.
“Here.” You pile an appetizer plate high with cheese cubes and shove it into her hands.
Stunned, she giggles. “All my woes have vanished.”
“That’s exactly how stolen cheese works,” And then, seriously: “Don’t be sad on Christmas, Dom. There’s plenty of time for that later. And I’ll do everything I can to help him.”
“That’s why you’ll never leave the band, isn’t it? You can’t leave Roger alone. You can’t let him destroy himself.”
“I owe him,” you say simply. “Without him I never would have followed Queen to London. I never would have found this family. I never would have married John. Roger took things from me, yes, of course he did. He took until I felt empty. But he also gave me the world.”
She nods slowly, thoughtfully.
“Please, Dom. Go enjoy yourself.”
“Alright. Joyeux Noël.” She gives you a parting wave and slips back out into the living room, where Freddie is now playing the grand piano and signing Thank God It’s Christmas. Roger is assisting in an increasingly hoarse falsetto.
A moment after Dominique leaves, John strolls into the kitchen, humming merrily. He stops dead when he sees your somber face, your shining eyes. “Who do I have to fuck up?”
You chuckle and shake your head. “No one. I just heard something sad.”
“Not about you, I hope.”
“No, I don’t have many sad stories anymore.”
“Yeah, me either.”
He reaches out to take your hand. A sapphire glints on your left ring finger, and it means everything.
“You sure you don’t need me to torment anyone for you? I could get drunk and plow my Benz into their house. Or write a scathing diss track about them. Was it Brian? Please tell me it was Brian.”
You laugh and twirl a lock of his fluffy hair. “That won’t be necessary.”
“In that case, you’re needed in the living room immediately,” John says, smiling. “Antoni climbed halfway up the Christmas tree and says he won’t come down for anyone except his mama.”
It’s November 3rd, 1999, and Roger, John, and Brian are promoting Queen’s upcoming compilation album, Greatest Hits III.
Interviewer, daytime television host Brad Chenoweth: “Today we have a very special treat for our viewers. Here with us in our London studio are the men of Queen: guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor, and bassist John Deacon. Good morning, and thank you all so much for being here.”
Brian: “It’s our pleasure.”
Roger: “I do screams as well as drums, Brad.”
Interviewer: “Hahaha, yes, of course. Now Queen has had an extremely busy year, and this Greatest Hits album has a few new selections on it, right? Take us through that process.”
Brian: “It does have a few new tracks, that’s correct. You know, ever since Freddie...ever since we lost Freddie Mercury, I mean, you know, it’s impossible to fill a space like the one that he left in the world.”
Roger: “Yes, yes.”
Brian: “But as difficult as it was, after finally finishing Made In Heaven in 1995 and getting it just right, feeling as if we had really done Freddie justice...we were left with this distressing feeling of ‘what’s next?’ What are the three of us supposed to do with ourselves? Split up and never work together again? Retire to the seashore? Open up some corner store to putter around in until we die?”
Roger: “A clog shop, perhaps.”
Interviewer: “You were thinking, ‘well hell, we’ve got plenty of talent ourselves!’”
Roger: “Well, talent, yes, but also energy. Drive. We’ve been working at being one of the best bands in the world for almost thirty years now, Brad. I wouldn’t even know how to begin to stop.”
Brian: “None of us wanted to stop, we came to that realization. And so we’ve done a tremendous amount of benefit concerts and recording sessions with some of the best artists of our time, and I think people who listen to this album are really going to appreciate that. We’ve got a live version of Somebody to Love with George Michael, and The Show Must Go On with Elton John, he’s just lovely to work with...oh and a rap version of Another One Bites The Dust with Wyclef Jean, which John was not exactly a fan of. But we all have to learn to give and take, don’t we?”
Interviewer: “Absolutely, and I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on a copy of this record. Is there any chance Queen might settle on a permanent new front man one day?”
Roger: “If we can ever find somebody John likes enough!”
Interviewer: “But, truthfully...none of you wanted to quit after Freddie passed away? It was a unanimous decision to keep with it?”
Roger: “Essentially, yes. I mean I think it was an all or nothing deal, wasn’t it? If one of us left then that would throw the whole thing off. I was always adamant from very early on in the band’s lifetime that I wouldn’t be interested in continuing without John. And I couldn’t imagine him and Brian being left alone together, my god, there’d be literal bloodshed, someone’s throat would be cut within the hour, believe me.”
John: “We might have lasted a day or two. But yes, it was more or less unanimous.”
Interviewer: “Now you’ve always been known as the quiet, domestic one, John. You weren’t tempted by the thought of retirement? Not even for a moment?”
John: “Well...I think it depends on the circumstances, really. I like working, and I like touring and traveling a good part of the year. But I imagine I’d get very homesick if I was alone on the road. Fortunately, that’s not the case. So the thought of retirement didn’t appeal to me nearly as much as it might have otherwise.”
Interviewer: “That’s right, I understand that your wife has been Queen’s touring nurse for...how long now? Twenty years?”
John: “Since 1974, so that’s twenty-five years.”
Roger: “Wow. It’s been that long?!”
Brian: “Feels like yesterday, doesn’t it?”
Interviewer: “How lucky for you, John. And look, you’re beaming!”
Roger: “Get it together, Deaks.”
John: “I’m an astronomically lucky man. It’s like having home with you anywhere in the world.”
Roger: “She’s good for curing hangovers as well, so that’s useful. And she knits everyone hats.”
Interviewer: “And you’ve got children, haven’t you John?’
John: “Four from my first marriage, yes. They’re all adults now so they come to visit us quite often, especially when we’re travelling. It worked out beautifully really, because they’re very close to their mother, of course, but my wife and I got together when they were all still fairly young, and so she’s always been there for them as they’ve grown up. My youngest especially was a rather...how would you say it diplomatically? A spirited child. But he warmed to her right away.”
Brian: “All the children are still friendly with each other as well, mine and Roger’s and John’s.”
Interviewer: “One big happy family, huh?”
Roger: “There are still a good amount of screaming matches between us dads, to be completely forthcoming.”
John: “You have to keep things interesting.”
Roger: “Exactly!”
Interviewer: “Yes, one can sense that there are still plenty of egos in this room, even after all these years! Tell me, Queen is nearly three decades old now, a worldwide phenomenon, the second-bestselling artist in the UK of all time behind the Beatles...how have you stayed together for so long when most bands last only a fraction of Queen’s lifespan?”
John: “Well I think we’ve all, you know, for the good of the band we’ve all had to grow towards each other to bridge the disagreements and keep peace. For example, I’ve had to learn to be more communicative, more open to collaboration and change. I can be someone who’s very comfortable being in the background. But then I’m resentful if people don’t see my point of view, even if I haven’t properly expressed it. So I have certainly had to work on that quite a lot.”
Brian: “Yes, John, I think that’s very true. Personally, I’ve had to learn to not get lost in the details so much. I have a bad habit of getting so fixated on something that I cause a massive row over a vanishingly small aspect of a song that no one else will ever notice. It’s just not worth the strife. So I’ve really tried to avoid that. Although, I’ll admit it, I still occasionally cause my share of drama.”
John: “Oh, sure.”
Roger: “And I’ve had to work on being less...”
John: “Annoying?”
Brian: “Combative?”
Roger: “Fiery.”
John: “That’s one word for it.”
Interviewer: “Was there ever a time when Queen’s existence was in serious jeopardy? And if so, how did you pull through?”
Brian: “Well, to be perfectly honest, as a band we went through quite a difficult time in the early 80s. And then we did again in the early 90s. And on both occasions there was a real worry that Queen might be over and we would all go our separate ways. But what kept us together through that...and feel free to disagree, Rog, John, if you have a different perspective...but what I feel kept us together was this profound sense of family. Queen predates all of our marriages, our children, our successes in the music industry or otherwise. It has become a constant place of belonging in the midst of professional and personal turmoil. And now our partners and children have been integrated into that network as well, so even if an individual relationship is strained or falls apart, the gravity of the band keeps us all in a perpetual symbiotic orbit. And I don’t see that ever ending.”
John: “Yes, well, I suppose that about sums it up, doesn’t it?”
Roger: “Bleeding christ, Brian. ‘Perpetual symbiotic orbit.’ Just say we’re friends, you pretentious twit.”
~~~~~~~~~~
It’s August 19th, 2020, and John’s 69th birthday party is winding down as the sun dips lazily into the rust-colored western horizon.
You’re standing on the cobblestones in the garden behind the Surrey house. You had always thought it was too extravagant, too massive; it wasn’t until Roger sold it to you and John in the spring of 1982 that you realized it was the perfect size after all. Six bedrooms meant one for each of the children, one for you and John—the one with the blue-grey wallpaper and nautical decorations, to be exact—and the last for when Chrissie and Denny or Roger and Dom stay the night, which is fairly frequently. Your vacation home, where you and John spend most of the summer when Queen isn’t on tour, is a little country cottage in the sunlit Alpine hills of Florence, Italy. John designed it himself, every last detail; right down to the white picket fence grown over with ivy.
“Look what we got in the mail.” You hold up the invitation to show your husband, grinning, raising your eyebrows. “Guess we have to buy him another toaster.”
He reads the names on the shimmering cardstock patterned with jungle ferns and dinosaur footprints. Interesting choices. “Is Ben actually going through with it this time?”
“John!”
“Wasn’t he supposed to marry some Italian heiress or something?”
“Love can be complicated, Mr. Deacon,” you remind him.
When he smiles, crinkles spring up around his eyes. “Yes, I suppose it can be.”
“Ben Hardy’s having another wedding?” Chrissie calls over from where she’s shooting arrows at the archery targets set up in the backyard. Denny periodically steps in to correct the angle of her wrist or elbow. “And Queen’s invited this time?”
“Apparently,” you reply. “You could go too if you were still married to Brian.”
“Ha!” Chrissie cackles and looses an arrow. It hits damn near the bullseye. “Not worth it.”
“I’ll bring back all the scandalous gossip I can scrounge for you.”
“You better. What do the kids call it now? Spilling the tea? Spill all the tea, bitch.”
“Oh, kettles and kettles’ worth.”
“So a teapot,” John says. “Not another toaster. Maybe decorated with...” He squints at the invitation again. “What’s the theme? What do they like? Fossils? Brontosauruses?”
“Bizarre people,” Chrissie mutters.
“I’ll figure something out,” you say. “Something special. Something old.”
“John?” Brian shouts from the doorway that leads into the kitchen. Inside the refrigerator is covered with sketches and birthday cards and photographs curling and fading around the edges. “Anita and I are heading out now, can we get a hug goodbye?”
“Ugh,” John jokes. “Well, alright.” He gives you a wink as he trots off.
The Surrey house isn’t exactly roaring—John has never been one for crowds, and incidentally neither have you—but it is alive with his children and grandchildren and life-long friends. Not just his, you correct yourself. Ours.
Veronica—once Tetzlaff, then Deacon, then Tetzlaff again, and finally Kowalski—is not in attendance. You see her only at holidays and birthday celebrations for the kids and grandchildren, and even then only in passing. She is still cold towards you, resentful, extremely Catholic...although somewhat less dogmatic since her second husband Ivan, a former priest, left the Church to marry her. When the last of her children were grown, Veronica got certified to be a doula and now primarily serves unwed mothers seeking assistance from Catholic charities in London. She mentioned to Chrissie, who later told you, that something you had once done for her had inspired her to pursue it. That’s the only nice thing you’ve heard her say about you in almost forty years.
Roger wanders over to meet you, nursing a Heineken, stroking his white beard with his free hand. He and Dominique have always been off and on—including a few years in the late 80s when he moved out of their three-story Kensington townhouse and had a daughter called Adeline with some leggy, platinum blonde supermodel—but these days they’re mostly on. He and Dom had two children after their reconciliation: a son, Blaise, and a daughter named by Freddie after the Japanese word for tiger, Tora.
You gaze out into the sunset. Half of the garden is flooded with white calla lilies, a new bouquet for every February 15th since 1978.
“You’ll be sending back an RSVP in the affirmative?” Roger asks.
“Of course! Any excuse to visit the States. And I like Ben. Although he doesn’t look anything like you.”
He groans. “Those wigs, bloody hell.”
“It’s like they produced a whole movie just to have an excuse to make fun of your atrociously crunchy bleached hair.”
“And I bet you enjoyed that.”
“You deserved it.” When Freddie’s health began to fail and Queen stopped touring, you went back to school to get a degree in physical therapy. You and Roger have sessions three times a week, provided he’s on the wagon; and he usually is, nowadays. When he’s not, John’s the one to get the call from Dominique, and he hunts Roger down, convinces him to come home, works whatever quiet, soothing magic he carries around in his deep pacific blood. But right this moment, Roger is awfully quiet himself. His large, pale eyes—like clear water, like unraveling delphiniums, like the harmony that only comes when age burns away all those last entrenched talons of bitterness, of fear—skate over the calla lilies.
“Do you think things would have been different for us?” Roger asks softly. “If she had lived.”
It took you a long time to understand why Roger was in no hurry to get a divorce, to move you out of the Surrey house. They were the only ties he thought he had to anchor you to the band, to him. They were the only cards he thought he had to play to keep you in his life in any capacity. But John fixed that dilemma. He can fix just about anything, you’ve learned.
“No,” you tell Roger. “You would have worn me down eventually. You and your drinking and drugs and late nights and interminable recklessness. It might have taken longer, but we always would have ended. And John always would have been my home. She wouldn’t have kept us together. She just would have lived. And I wouldn’t have loved her for being a part of you. I would have loved her for whoever she was, whoever she grew up to be. But now I’ll never know who that would have been. I love the children I have, Roger, I do. But I still miss her, miss the person she would have been. It’s like chasing a shadow. It’s like a page of a book written in a language I can’t read. And it’s a feeling that never quite goes away.”
He smiles at you wearily, immensely sad, full of perfect understanding. “I know.”
~~~~~~~~~~
It’s October 10th, 2020, and the reception is held under shedding autumn leaves the color of rubies and imperial topaz and amber and yellow jade. The exuberant bride and groom weave through the crowds milling about the quaint farm, which is nestled in the hills of a small town in Northern California called Zenia. It belongs to Gwilym, apparently, and he and his flame-haired girlfriend Shiloh are shuttling tirelessly this way and that making sure everything goes according to plan. They don’t speak much to Ben or his new wife directly—there’s a stiltedness there, an uncomfortable period of readjustment that reminds you of how John and Roger were for a while after all the secrets came out—but there is undeniable kinship as well. Love can be complicated, you find yourself thinking, for the innumerable time. But that doesn’t mean it’s not real.
Making the rounds with the bride and groom is a strikingly beautiful, dark-haired boy who wears a miniature suit and a perpetual, mischievous grin. The new Mrs. Hardy almost always has her hand on his shoulder, his back, wiping cake frosting from his cheeks, ruffling his hair.
“Eli is kind of a demon kid,” Joe Mazzello warns you. “But in the best possible way.”
“Hm. I have somewhat of an affinity for demons myself.”
“Clearly,” Roger quips, sipping pink champagne. The snack table is Halloween-themed and extremely casual: Cheetos and pumpkin pie and caramel apples and dinosaur-shaped brownies. Per usual, you’re grazing through an orange paper plate stacked high with enough nibbling material to keep any undesirable small talk at bay. But strangely, in all of the times you’ve crossed his path since Bohemian Rhapsody’s filming began, you’ve never minded chatting with Joe.
“Yeah, you two were married at some point, right?” Joe asks. Then he immediately blanches. “Oh my god. That was so rude. I did not just say that. I’m so sorry. I saw it on Wikipedia. I’m gonna go drown myself in the stream now.”
“No, you’re right!” you admit in a peal of laughter. “Briefly and disastrously.”
“It wasn’t that disastrous,” Roger protests, thieving a Cheeto off your plate. He misplaced his prescription sunglasses on the flight over and is thus relatively helpless.
“Rude. Get your own. They’re over on the other end of the table.”
“I can’t see that far—!”
“Dom?” you call as she sashays over in a flowing white dress and licking a stick of orange rock candy. “Please control your husband.”
She smiles. “If I haven’t managed it yet, I don’t think there’s much hope.” She nods to Joe. “It’s so nice to see you again. Meeting you people was the only bright spot of that whole movie ordeal.”
“What, you didn’t fancy it?” Roger jests.
“At least they included you,” you tell Dom, smirking. “They ignored my existence entirely. They threw in some random woman with zero lines and called her Veronica in the credits. Whatever.”
Dom rolls her expressive umber eyes. “Yes, how flattering, I was in two scenes and one of them involved a joke about Roger cheating on me.”
“You’re a star, baby,” you say. “Deal with it.”
Dom smacks your arm playfully. She may be annoyed, but it doesn’t pain her the way it used to. She’s had decades of practice.
“The script could have been better,” Joe concedes. Then he spies John as he approaches, almost drops his caramel apple, waves frenetically. “Hi, Mr. Deacon! Hi!!”
“Wonderful job with all of this, Joe.” John shakes his hand as Joe gapes at him, starstruck. He’s always like that around John, appreciative, in awe, acutely aware of John’s legendary place in rock and roll history; and you love that someone besides you and Roger look at him that way.
“Thanks, I did it myself. Just kidding. It was 99% Gwil.”
“Well, I’ll still get you front row seats at the next Queen + Adam Lambert show.” It had taken a long time for John to find a front man he liked...a long time. He drove Roger and Brian insane. He kept saying he wanted someone who was like Freddie and yet simultaneously not trying to be Freddie, someone genuinely kind and charismatic and empathetic, an otherworldly talent, a natural performer. And then, on an unassuming spring night in 2009, they found him.
Joe claps a palm on John’s shoulder and grins, his eyes glistening. “I’m obsessed with this little old guy! Obsessed, I tell you!”
“You want to see how old he is?” Roger teases. “Lift up that hand-knit hat and see what’s underneath. I’ll give you a hint. Not much.”
“At least I made it through the 90s without requiring hair plugs,” John counters.
“It was from all the bleaching!!”
“Hi, Rog!” Ben shouts as he rushes to embrace Roger, nearly knocking him off his feet. Mrs. Hardy is still across the field, talking to Brian, Anita, Rami, and Lucy, and trying to convince Eli not to crawl into a chocolate fountain.
Ben Hardy has always been somewhat of an enigma to you, mostly because he’s nothing at all like Roger. He’s subterranean-voiced and emerald-eyed and brooding and guarded and seems so much older than his twenty-nine years, and then every once in a while someone will come along and light him up like fireworks on the Fourth of July. Unlike Roger, Ben doesn’t light up for many people. He does for his son Eli, of course, and for Joe Mazzello...and for his new wife. He lights up for her like fucking wildfire.
“Ben,” you say, holding out a bag speckled with black cats. “I have our gift for you.”
“You shouldn’t have! Thank you so much.”
“You can’t thank us until you open it,” John chastises.
So Ben does. Inside is an album of hundreds of photos you’ve taken of Queen since Roger bought you your first Canon for Christmas in 1974: pictures that have never been released publicly of the boys at the Rainbow, at the Budokan, in Rome, in Boston, in Japan, in New Orleans, at Montreal, at Madison Square Garden, at Live Aid, at the Surrey house, at Montreux. Interspersed are some of John’s sketches, the only ones you can bring yourself to part with: close-ups of a long-haired Freddie drawing on messy eyeliner, Roger adjusting his sunglasses with a cigarette smoldering between his fingers, Brian tuning his Red Special.
“Oh my god,” Ben whispers.
“Most of those are very old,” you explain. “And I heard you both like old things.”
“We definitely do.” He hugs you, suddenly and fiercely and warmly; and you catch a glimpse of what it must be like to be one of the few people that he allows to truly know him, those shadowed depths to balance Joe’s uncomplicated light.
Maybe that’s it, you realize. Maybe Joe is more like Roger and Ben like John.
The wedding playlist is exclusively classic rock songs: the Doors and Aerosmith and Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin and Queen. As A Kind Of Magic ends, the eerie opening notes of Hotel California ripple out over the breezy autumn fields.
“Not this fucking song!” Roger cries.
Joe turns to you, confused.
“LSD,” you inform him. “1977. I would not recommend it.”
“Noted.”
Roger continues, rubbing his forehead: “It makes me think of...freaking...weird, creepy shit...like swimming at night through cold water. But I just keep swimming and can’t get anywhere.”
“It makes me think of sharks,” you say. “Maybe they’re related.”
“Freddie always said it made him think of birds,” John sighs. “And the color blue.”
The three of you pause, nodding, remembering.
Joe frowns solemnly, peering down at his shoes. “I’m sorry I never got to meet him.”
“He would have adored you,” you say.
“Really?”
“Are you kidding?! You would have been best friends. Always looking out for people. Always plotting the next escapade. That charming chaotic energy. The utter inability to bake anything.”
“Awwww.” Joe beams, delighted. “I fucking love you guys.”
“That’s the thing,” Roger says. “People don’t realize it. We’re more of a family than a band. We find people we take a shine to like ancient treasure, snatch them up, sand away all their rough edges, show them everything the world has to offer. And if they can survive the casualties of stardom, that trial by fire, they become permanent. They grow like roots into our blood, our bones...and perhaps we claim a part of theirs as well. They become things we can’t live without.”
“And once you’re in the family,” John tells Joe with a fond, crafty smile. “You can never leave.”
Mirio is extremely observant
He knows exactly when and what mannerisms you use when your happy, angry, upset...
he knows you like the back of his hand, so when your not feeling amazing, he definitely knows
He would probably be really worried on the inside, but he has to be positive for you! So he puts up a big smile and his super goofy, dad-joke personality to hopefully get a smile or laugh out of you
He’d catch you with your head in your hand after school one day, the other kids bustling away as you sat under a lonely tree, looking extremely burdened with something
If you two were just crushing on each other, he’d be extremely worried, bidding Tamaki and Neijire a quick goodbye as he made his way over to you
“Oh hey y/n-are you feeling okay? You were looking pretty sad over here, just wanted to see if I can cheer you up!”
This boy is just a literal ball of sunshine as he stares down at you with the brightest grin ever
It doesnt matter if you tell him or not- he will listen to your feelings and give you the best adivce he can if you do tell jim, but he wont be offended if you keep it to yourself
He just wants to see you be the bright, happy person he knows and loves!
Would probably offer to do something or go get something you like, like take a walk in the park or get some ice cream
poor tama- he knows you arent feeling well its just he cant rack up the courage to ask!
Your usually at least a little more energetic than him
So he immeditaely knows somethings wrong when you shuffle your way into class, not saying much and going straight to your seat
Every morning he always anticipates you with excitement and nerves- cause he honestly loves seeing you, it brightens his morning, but Tama being Tama his anxiety kicks in
And he just keeps thinking he’ll something embarrassing like stutter, your go mute, or start shaking, or god forbid he accidentally confuses by accident-
He will watch you with ihs eyes the whole time, instantly very nervous and worried for you-
Hes hoping that maybe its nothing, that maybe your just tired or feeling a little under the weather
But the moment he sees you put your head down he knows something is up- you look like your going to break down at any moment
Its going to take alot out of Tamaki, but he doesnt want you to be by yourself
But this poor thing has to give himself some time to collect himself- it takes alot out of Amajiki to be any type of bold
But he finally walks over to you, and sit across from your seat, his hands tucked into his lap and his hung low
“I-I-just wanted to see...if you were-feeling okay....”
You can tell this boy everything and anything, he is all ears and wants to help
Kaminari is such a sweet heart
Like he may seem like a flirt and it kinda sucks at times for him
Because you kinda “friend zone” him every time he makes a flirtatious move,,,,
AND POOR BABY JUST WANTS TO BE WITH YOU
but anywayssss
this boy is like attached to you and wants you around him 24/7
Like Momo doing a study group? Hes gonna invite you
Hes gonna train? Hes gonna run to your dorm room and see if your free
Bakusquad gonna go out on the weekend? Hold up hes gotta ask and see if you can come-
EXTREMELY ATTACHED TO YOU
So of course, Kirishima asked if he wanted to study a littl bit for a test the next day and hes scrambling to go and go ask you in your dorm if you wanted to join
hes so excited, almost like a little puppy, running to your room and opening up the door with a huge grin
“Hey y/n, you wanna come and- oh shoot, are you okay?”
Your curled up on your bed, your face in your hands, and then you peak through your hands and oh no you look like youve been crying-
He instantly walks over, his knees sinking into your mattress and putting a reassuring hand on your back
If you start breaking down, he WILL hug you
DOES NOT CARE
Also gonna be a sweetheart, calling you little nicknames that he gives you all the time
“Ahh cmon baby girl, dont cry...youre gonna be okay, sunshine, just wait, I promise-”
Hes gonna ditch everything until he knows for sure youll be okay- he’ll run and get his laptop and some food so you guys can just have fun and help you forget
THIS ^^^^ BABY ^^^^ RIGHT ^^^^ HERE
Is gonna take care of you!
Hes naturally very caring by heart, but when he sees his crush having a rough day!
Is gonna drop everything and anything for you
Like Kaminari, hes practically attached to the hip to you
(just like a tiny bit more subtle)
But Bakusquad DEIFNITELLLYYYYY knows about his little crush, and constantly teases but also hypes him up to get him to just ask you out
When he notices you looking a little blue, hes deinfitely going to be worries
No matter who he’s with or if hes by himself, he’s gonna leave and come straight to you to see whats wrong
(*cue Bakusquad staring at him and trying to see whats going on from behind a bush)
Hes gonna be kinda nervous, you are his s/o after all- but he’s gonna push it away
“Hey, are you feeling alright..you seemed really sad, wanna talk about it?”
hes going to sit himself right next to you and comfort you the best way he thinks he can
If you want to tell him whats going on, he is ready to listen and support you
If you just wanna sit in silence, he’ll sit with you and try to make small talk to get your mind off of it
He’ll probably tell a sorta embarrassing story of himself to make you laugh
And omg if you do UGH he’ll feel so happy and fulfilled cause yay he made you feel better!
Shinso is pretty chill
So when he sees you looking really upset, he’s going to be worried but it wont show too much on the outside
He just extremely calm, which is probably a good thing if your emotions are heightened
Also, he knows you like the back of his hand
You literally cannot lie to him and say “your okay”
He will call you outtttttt
‘You look about ready to cry..so tell me, whats been on your mind? You know you can trust me right?”
Hes really good at being comforting
Like he wont SMOTHER you
But he’ll hold your hand while you spew out whats on your mind
Or rub your back if your bawling
You dont even have to tell him anything- he’ll of course try to pry it out a little cause he doesnt want those thoughts eating up at you
But he respects if you want to keep it to yourself
He will make sure to take care of you, bringing you water, blankets, snacks- whatever you need
And for the rest of the day, he’s going to make sure your right next to him
No exceptions
It is his personal duty to make you feel at least a little  better- no matter what
This will include sleeping in his dorm room jnfiifuwiufiwuefuiweif-
