Bugs

This is inspired by the fact that I have finally played Hollow Knight! I’m only around 14 hrs in, but I know lots of the lore etc around the game I guess. Also def subconsciously (and not subconsciously in a couple places) inspired by @theballadofmars and @poorly-drawn-mdzs who both have made fantastic HK x MDZS(MXTX) AUs.

I think maybe some hollow knight spoilers? Slight close ups and rambling below

Hua Cheng- he’s a butterfly, but I felt that Grim’s aesthetic (if not much else) seemed kinda fitting for him. I like to imagine him as a fake out boss fight before he officially introduces himself

Xie Lian- I really wasn’t sure what to do with him. So I just made him a vessel, though his horns are meant to be reminiscent of the Pale King (no lore reasons)

Lan Wangji- I wanted him to be like, just a bug. But also a wanderer and protector WWX could run into. My second idea for him actually is kinda ooc for him I think (unless the grey mourner has more going on than I realize).

Wei Wuxian- vessel. It just seemed appropriate since the vessel dies and comes back. Im thinking maybe he once had a bigger form (akin to the hollow knight) long ago that cracked, he becomes a shade and eventually reforms or something idk. I was thinking bugs first, rational later. I think that he’d be either be more like Samus and shoot things from a slight distance or just beat people with his flute.

Luo Binghe- beast, or half beast in this case. I couldn’t get the idea of 4-8 big watery eyes out of my head

Shen Qingqiu- idk, the mantis tribe fights deepnest. It also seemed to fit OG Shen Qingqiu well, being a mantis.

I think if I keep playing HK I will revisit and revise this idea, I’m not really satisfied with XL and LWJ current iterations.

genuine question for people into closed species: when it comes to “make your own slots”, what are you paying for? from my understanding, you draw it and you design it, so you’re doing literally all the work. so what are you paying for? and what with rarities and stuff, doesn’t that mean you’re paying to *not be allowed* to design something however you like? to me it seems like going to a coffee shop and giving the barista 20$ to do it yourself with your own ingredients and your own equipment except if you make a mocha they kick you out

is there something I’m missing? is it really just for bragging rights/being in a club? is it purely to try and support artists, but if that’s the case, why not actually commission them? are you paying for, like, the idea? but you’re still coming up with the character and the design, what idea is there to pay for? you don’t have to pay for making a fan oc of a published media, and you shouldn’t, so what’s different here? I don’t get it

decided to draw some OCs based on the vibes i got from my songs! theyre both university freshman - illia is a law student and Z is a sociology major, Z is new and town and looking to start a brand new punk band after their old one disbanded, and it turns out illia has an amazing voice. unfortunately, she was raised in a super strict household and hates the idea of doing anything that might distract from her studies. Z knows that if they can convince illia to join, they can totally win battle of the bands alongside their new drummer ezra - who works at the campus cafe - and their new guitarist melek - who Z met at roller derby - but who knows what kind of feelings are going to get in the way when illia finally gains independence and dives head first into the punk scene? stay tuned to find out more.....

Could you draw Eleanora and Illia together? What would their interactions be like if they were to meet and who’s more tomboyish and who’s more girl?

Eleanora is definitely the more feminine of the two, but doesn't really feel "pretty" enough to dress up. The Heartslabyul crew, and Lilia and Mr. Horns, disagree, lol. Ilia, on the other hand, spends most of her days covered in mud, monster guts, and her own blood, and would much rather wear pants given the chance. She likes style, but also likes dressing more masculinely.

One of reasons why she hated wearing Zelda's dress so much, lol.

Also, not going to lie, when I read the ask, I read "Ilia" as "Lilia" and I was SO confused because I knew I had already drawn Ellie with Lilia before. It was pretty funny.

That said, Ellie and Ilia would DEFINITELY do the spiderman meme of pointing at each other going, "SAME SCARS!" due to their hands being completely mangled. Ellie from when she met Grim and Ilia just from... surviving and adventuring chaos.

Ilia: "So, how do you handle all the Overblots? I just kinda panic and start shooting and swinging at the monsters..."

Eleanora: "Panic. ALL OF IT IS PANIC. Thankfully, the boys all listen to me... though I don't really know why. Oh my gods, fighting Riddle was the worst-"

Ilia, listening intently, hearing her recount everything: "Damn girl, you live like this?"

Eleanora, staring at her blankly:

Ilia: "...Point taken. Wanna learn how to shoot a bow?"

Eleanora: "YES PLEASE OH GODS SAVE ME."
