okay so I agree very much with above, all of it. I've not done any side stuff for him, and ultimately I feel like he was - wasted potential and I was disappointed. And I have to put some additional thoughts under a cut

entering SHB, i thought Ran'jit's design was GREAT. so, the fandom can flay me, but I find Ran'jit appearance and vibe so much more interesting than Zenos as a villain/antagonist. The visuals, the way he moves? His abilities?

However, Ran'jit really suffers from the fact that his thing is similar to Zenos - somehow unbeatable , repeat villain. And by the time I was done with SB I was tired of this (I - have some issues with Zenos role in SB and the story or more precisely how it was used but that's a different thing). There was no room for someone who martially beat the wol again and again - especially since there re so many other things in Shb - we don't NEED a repeat villain to fight; we fight the never ending horror of the Light and as mentioned in tags - Vauthry fills the shoe as the wols no 1 enemy quite nicely. There's no explanation on WHY he can beat the wol - who handily beats all the Lightwardens and so forth. Why is Ran'jit so good? and what's the story reason for his powers (which are cool! I LOVE the design of him SO much)

I also, as mentioned, not do his side content and I was dying to know: why does he do what he does? Briefly, he doesn't want Minifilia's to die, but in general? he's clearly an old school general, a leader, a man of action. What is is DOING with Vauthry? everyone else is following Vauthry because he gives them comfort and excess, but Ran'jit is not like that? why does he stay in Eulmore? what is is motivation?

I don't know, and I want to know, and I feel there was SO much left on the table.

all in all - IF Ran'jit had been given the time and effort in the story, he'd have been everything I wished Zenos was, but wasn't (apologies, but I didn't enjoy Zenos narrative, and he was my least favorite part of SB ) In the end, Ran'jit ends up being both a "oh the same thing again" and a "what is his deal" instead of being utilized well.

and yes, Thancred should have killed him as mentioned above, that's the last thing.
