i wasnt gonna write anything today but i’m laying in bed rn and i was thinking !! (i know… first red flag) BUT:

ellie likes you wearing her clothes a little too much

idk if this is a oneshot or a really long hc but enjoy !

it was a random afternoon in the middle of winter. you had invited yourself over to your girlfriend’s place, cold and reeking of horse as you’d spent all day at the stables.

you don’t bother knocking, pushing the door open, stepping inside, shedding your coat and throwing it over a nearby chair. you’re tugging your boots off, supporting yourself on the doorframe when you hear a shout from the bathroom, “babe! that you?”

you follow the sound of your girlfriends voice, sock clad feet pattering against the wood floors. you crack the bathroom door open, peaking your head in, smiling at the sight of her putting her short hair into a half bun. her forearms flexed with the movements and your eyes trailed over her tattooed arm.

“ellie,” you whisper yell, effectively spooking her, causing her to flinch and whip her head towards you.

“fuck babe what did i tell you about that shit? you’re gonna kill me one of these days”. ellie’s wide eyes and slacked jaw created the funniest look of bewilderment, causing you to let out a not-so-subtle laugh.

ellie scoffs but you notice her lips quirk as she tries to hide the smile creeping up on her expression. she suddenly pulls on your wrist and you stumble into her arms. she plops a big wet kiss in between your brows.

“ugh gross!” you complain, reaching up to wipe the damp feeling from your face but ellie beats you to it, thumbs gently rubbing at the crease there.

“oh you love it” ellie leans down for a second, less wet, peck on your lips, face scrunching up as she pulls back. “jeez you stink,”

you pout, ready to quip back but you couldn’t even argue. you did stink.

“wanna shower love? it’ll warm you up too,” you don’t even that you had been shivering until you feel ellie’s big, warm hands rub up and down on your arms, trying to thaw you out.

“i didn’t bring any clothes els. you’re just gonna have to deal with me, stink and all,” you tease. ellie just huffs out a laugh and and squeezes your shoulders.

“wait here.”

she comes back a few moments later, a stack of clothes on top of a messily folded towel. “here,” she places the tower of fabric into your arms and turns on her heels, “take your time, i’ll find us a movie in the mean time.” the door shuts behind her.

you turn the faucet on and strip your dirty clothes as you wait for the water to heat up. by the time you’ve removed all your clothes and jewelry, it’s scalding, steam filling the small room, just the way you like.

you instantly feel your body relax as it warms up from the shower. you wash the stable smell from your skin and hair, spending just a little longer than usual after rinsing, not wanting to leave the warmth just yet.

you finally turn the shower off, blindly reaching for the towel through the curtain, wrapping yourself up and stepping out. you stand in front of the mirror, clearing the haze from the glass with your hand, revealing a slightly blurry reflection of yourself.

you dry yourself as thoroughly as possible before turning to the small stack of clothing ellie had given you. it included an old, lived in gray hoodie and a pair of loose black and white plaid boxers. you shake your head, laughing to yourself at the mens underwear. ellie swears by them and often goes on tangents about how much more comfortable they are compared to women’s underwear.

“seriously babe, it’s actually so fucking unfair like??”

you pull the hoodie over your head. it smelled so much like ellie. it made you dizzy, her scent intoxicating and you couldn’t help the small throb in your cunt as a result.

you finish getting dressed and step out of the bathroom, steam escaping into the main room. you spot ellie on the bed, flipping through her dvd collection. without looking up she asks, “ok, what are we feeling? cheesy rom-com or equally cheesy thriller?”

“whichever one will make me want to rip my eyes out less,” you answer, joking but, not really.

“okayyy thriller it is,” she stands up and puts the disc into the player, “hey do you mind grabbing the re-“ she abruptly cuts herself off when she turns around and finally sees your figure.

you’re just standing there, ankles cross, hands playing with the frayed ends of the hoodie’s sleeves as you patiently wait for her to set everything up. you pretend not to notice as her eyes slowly drag up your legs, eyes slightly glassy as they trail up your body.

“grab what?” you ask, looking around the room. your only met with silence, “el!”.

that seemed to knock her out of her stupor, clearing her throat and stuttering out, “t-the um,” cough “ the remote. can you grab the remote please”. her voice dying off at the end, slightly hoarse.

you finally end up the in the bed together, ellie sat up, back against the head board, you tucked into her side. she’s stroking your hair and you sigh softly, settling into your favorite spot.

not even five minutes into the movie, you feel ellie shift and maneuver you, now half on top of her. she leans down and inhales. “fuck”.

you look up to see she looks almost like, in pain. “els what’s wrong?”

“nothing it’s just,” she moves her hands down, gripping your sides, “you smell like me.”

the tone of her voice, low and possessive, and slightly strained, causes butterflies to erupt in your lower stomach. ellie leans down and begins to leave kisses along your jaw and neck, sucking a little bit harsher each time. you bite your lip and sigh, trying to focus on the movie.

ellie knows exactly where to kiss and bite, leaving you squirming and desperate for more. “ellie,” you whine out, you sound out of breath already and you feel ellie smirk into your skin.

“what baby? gotta use your words,” she gropes the padding of fat on your hips, manhandling you to be fully on top of her. you want so badly to move, grind your hips down into her lap, feel some sort of relief but her grip on you is strong, keeping you in place.

“need it els, please”

“please what, pretty?” she sounds breathless herself, the sight of you needy and flushed on top of her like this makes a rush of arousal flood through her, needy for you too.

favorite author! — idk that i have a favourite bc it's been a while since i've read anything published, but i did like terry pratchett's nonsense way back when. i also really liked sally rooney's normal people, even though the characters are enormously toxic and it's not exactly a love story to be revered.

favorite song! - again, no favourite as such. lately i've had silver light - ateez, nerves - dpr ian, and disloyal order of water buffaloes - fall out boy on repeat.

hobbies! — imagining myself writing, astrology, tarot, kpop fanart, animal crossing (i can't believe this capitalist hellscape game got me in a chokehold), looking at park seonghwa and wondering how he exists like that. i live near some big (for england) lakes and mountains so in the summer we do a lot of hiking and kayaking, photocard collecting (not a serious collector but i have a bunch), got back into baking recently and two weeks ago i made the best chocolate & cherry hot cross buns i fear i may never get them as good as the first try

someone tagged it like, complaining UGH CAN'T BELIEVE WE LITERALLY HAVE TO EXPLAIN CRITICAL THEORY FOR PEOPLE TO GET IT and I regret to inform you. yeah dude. when somebody doesn't understand a thing sometimes this is because somebody needs to explain it.

none of us are born with the complete works of 20th century literary theory embedded in our brain. all of us have to learn through having ideas explained to us, whether by teachers or by the writings of other theorists (and. again. academic reading is a skill that has to be developed.)

a lot of people on this website are like 14. a lot of people on this website have not had an academic education past high school. a lot of people on this website have devoted their time and energy to different skills. I grew up on a steady diet of academic art criticism and I still didn't read anything to do with gaze theory or death of the author until I was in undergrad. not because I was stupid or anti-intellectual or incurious but literally just because in all the stuff I was finding it hadn't happened to cross my path yet.

it doesn't mean there's no problem with throwing around terminology and ideas wrong bc you don't understand them, but if that's happening somebody needs to at least try to explain why that's wrong. I'm a big believer in not using terms if youre not sure if their meaning, but you don't know what you don't know, and somebody yelling at you won't help you understand where you've gone wrong

idk while "fuck you I won't do Learning, Learning is a tool of Bourgeois Oppression" is a worryingly potent type of anti-intellectualism at the moment, I honestly think "pfffft why would we need to explain this is only an 8 page essay it's only a 25 page manifesto can you believe this 12 year old hasn't read Capitalist Realism yet what a fool. what an absolute rube." is one of the attitudes doing the most harm to education and understanding.

like fuck me man can we respect that there are specific skills involved in reading, understanding, applying and communicating theory? if you've got these skills that's fantastic! try valuing the work you put in to get those skills and understand not everybody has had the opportunity, resource, time or inclination to get there yet, and if you would like more people to have those skills and understanding you have to recognise where support and teaching and encouragement would be useful instead of sneering from your high horse.

and like yeah it's not always your responsibility specifically to teach. and sometimes people do just choose to ignore available information. some folk straight up don't want to learn and are proud not to. but that surely just means we should appreciate when people are looking for an explanation and trying to understand.

Rambling? Venting? Idk. Vulnerability. Let’s call it vulnerability.

I don’t know if I want to even tag this because I’m trying to protect my verbal processing abilities right now and my eternal comfort movie Luca is playing in the background, so this isn’t going to be formal or polished the way I usually like to be when I’m posting, but… anyway, it totally kinda knocks me over that there are people out there who insist YR S2 wasn’t well written or Lisa is a bad writer or something because… something something our-oversimplified-version-of-wilmon-is-better-than-canon-nuanced-wilmon or some reason or other.

And I mean, when I say it knocks me over, I don’t mean it surprises me. That feels fairly standard for the internet and fandoms. I’ve been in fandoms long enough to know there’d be people with those takes. But I guess it knocks me over in… a Tired kinda way? A Deflated way? Something like that.

YR is special to me because of when I watched it the first time in summer 2021, and the things that were going on with me at the time. First, I saw it when I was completely burned out on Franchise Media (TM) and like, so incredibly exhausted from the MCU and how much everyone was still talking about it. It was refreshing to watch a show, not based on any existing IP, that delved into characters’ flaws and vulnerabilities, and that didn’t apologize for making you feel emotion and didn’t rely on quips or winking really obviously at the camera or whatever.

Second, I watched YR when I started my MFA in writing for children and young adults. The further I’ve gotten along in my program, the more I’ve felt that young people and adults alike deserve stories with moral complexity. And when we write young people as characters, the more we need morally complex stories for those characters. Teenagers live in a world that isn’t easy to navigate, and we do them a disservice when a story’s moral questions are too swiftly answered. As part of my program, I probably would have thought about issues of justice and human rights in YA lit regardless, but YR really pushed me to think of these issues in writing beyond just “good representation/bad representation.” (Which is important, but not the sum total of what authors should be focused on, and sometimes I feel like members of all fandoms overuse the word “representation” to justify their preferences. Sigh.) ANYWAY I love the way YR consistently resists easy answers and leans into its tensions. I love the way it’s always asking us, do you really want to find catharsis there? Certainly it doesn’t resolve issues by having superheroes shoot lasers at sky beams. I imagine season 3 will attempt to find some resolution for certain long running plotlines, but I also imagine what it doesn’t resolve will have the potential to open up some really interesting conversations, if we let it. Ugh, I just. Love dissecting the craft in this story! I love taking YR apart and seeing how it works.

Third, I discovered YR around the time I started to seriously think about ways in which I might be neurodivergent. (I’m doing my first intake call with a local neuropsych group in a few weeks.) While I have related to various ND or ND-coded characters before, Sara is pretty important to me because she was the first of these characters I connected to while exploring that aspect of my identity. I can see a lot of my child and teenage self in Sara’s arc; I wasn’t a horse girl but I did once beg my parents to send me to private school because I thought I’d be bullied less than in public school (they didn’t send me, because we couldn’t afford it.) I read novels set at boarding schools with a certain fascination because I imagined it as a place I could reinvent myself and be the best version of myself. I now know that I was romanticizing a pretty classist and elitist experience, but as a young person I didn’t really have the perspective to see and understand that. So I feel like I get where Sara is coming from, and I feel like her arc is such an important addition to the themes of the series. Like, we’re pulling the gilded veneer off of a really messed up system! Someone has to be drawn in by all that gold. When criticisms of season 2 boil down to “Sara had too much screen time” I like, can’t even be rational about it ahaha. (I hope people can forgive me this. I’m not saying Sara did nothing wrong, but I’m saying she has an important place in the story.)

Fourth, @heliza24 and I were friends before YR, but we were able to take our friendship to a newer and more exciting level while collaborating on our fanfic. And now we have ideas for original pieces we can write, too!

Idk like. I’m not saying YR or Lisa are perfect. I’ve got my quibbles with like the occasional thing here or there. Season 3 could still let me down. But I love it because it’s a well-crafted story with dynamic characters and resonant themes. I love it like I love Tana French and Elena Ferrante’s novels. I love it like I love Revolutionary Girl Utena and the history of the French Revolution and Socrates’s Antigone and Oedipus. I love it like I love Adib Khorram’s Darius the Great is Not Okay. I love it like I love so many of the songs in Ragtime and Les Misérables. All of which have their own flaws, but really make something in my brain light up and be happy.

I’m not really sure what my overall point here is. I think I just wanted to express this because I am currently having A Lot Of Feelings about other things in my life, and this feels like a place to rechannel them. And maybe if you read this far you got a chance to know me a little better, too.

I feel like I've written myself into a bit of a corner with this one. Orrr I might be overthinking it way too much.

This fic is an expansion of a ficlet I wrote about Wayne and Claudia discussing Steve moving in with the Hendersons. At the time I felt like I was drafting a bunch of things that could all be part of one story and the reception to that ficlet and comments encouraged me to go ahead with pursuing a single story.

BUT because I'm choosing to switch POV's throughout, I'm finding each part to be really varying in word length. At least that's what I'm blaming it on. Eg. Eddie's and Steve's povs are quite long as I'm more confident in writing their voices as opposed to a character like Claudia.

Plus I think I should return to Steve's POV throughout because the story is ultimately about him and I don't want it to read like everyone is telling him what to do. And that is just making it all longer. Like it feels long-winded for about half of it but then tapers off??? Ugh idk.

A snippet (from Steve's POV):

“Alright, alright!” Steve bellows as he jogs to the front door, “Hold your horses!” The knocking is incessant and admittedly, loud enough for him to hear from the laundry room. It makes sense though, when he reaches the door and spots the flat-top haircut next to a shorter person donning orange-red pigtails through the glass pane. “What?” he spits as he opens the door, greeted with a pair of far too-sweet smiles from Lucas and Max. “Just visiting,” Lucas chimes as Max promptly elbows him in the stomach hard enough that he corrects himself with a spluttering, “Ouch – uh, I mean… We need to talk.” Before Steve has time to respond, Max pushes inside past him, scraping her skateboard on the door as she goes. She dumps it in the foyer, letting the thing roll until it hits the skirting board, bouncing back and into it again. If his parents showed any indication of actually coming back to Hawkins, he’d be worried about the eggshell paint chipping. But considering how unlikely their reappearance seems (at least right now), he is far more concerned about the young duo sitting themselves down on the living room couch, moving in perfect sync as they look up at him with a level of seriousness they reserve only for meddling. “Yes?” he says, placing his hands on his hips and steadfastly refusing to sit down. He doesn’t have time, anyway. He needs to be at work in twenty minutes. “Everyone is conspiring, y’know?” Max smirks. Lucas nods, tight-lipped and bouncing his leg like he is about to burst. But honestly? Steve trusts him the most. “About what?” he asks, looking directly at the boy. “How could you not tell me about Eddie!” Lucas blurts out, practically shouting.

Ugh its that time of year again in this Fandom, isn't it.

I just wished people would ... idk, tag their ship hate with something so that I can filter it and don't have to see it.

It's fine to hate a ship! Its okay to have squicks! Its okay to set boundaries!

But I hate seeing the "if you like x ship, stop following me" posts. That squicks me out.

I hate seeing such vitriolic negativity in what is otherwise a chill fandom space.

Like. We fucking get it, most people in this huge Fandom hates this ship, stop beating the dead horse already.

Can I respond to you little fandom rant?

In all honesty I used to be one of *those* assholes. I used to look down on short fics, see them and be all like, "blah did they even put effort into this?? It's so shot that's barely a thing why bother." But you know what happened, I fell off my fucking high horse because I actually started reading shorter fics! And like how he hell do people cram so much passion, emotion, story, hotness, into so few words! That in and of its self is a talent! Its like fucking poetry man!

Fandom can be great but it's also sadly a hellhole at times and that is just fucking sad because we are a God damn community and should act like it! Why is the mentality of respect peoples works, write what you like, don't read what you don't like so freaking hard to wrap your head around?

Just be happy and grateful for the content you enjoy and ignor the stuff you don't enjoy. Simple as that. So any way as a reformed asshole that used to look down on drabble/ficlet writers, I would like to apologize for all the idiotic tomfuckery.

Ps. Your works are great, and please never fell guilty for not reading something. Fics shouldn't cause stress and anxiety they are for fun and relaxation. Assuming your friends are good people I'm sure they would agree!

Yeah I find it easy to tell other people I never expect them to read my fic, but a whole lot harder not to feel guilty for not reading All of the Things myself 😂🙈

Anyway I'm too tired to get my thoughts in very good order today (I probably should know better than to reblog while angry, but I can't say I really regret it either 😅)... but that's the thing, innit. I don't care if people don't want to read short fics, or long fics, they're allowed to have preferences! And like everything else, nobody needs to justify those preferences to anyone.

It's when I start seeing those personal preferences touted as Better Than or Worse Than that I get upset. I don't think I've met a single fic writer who doesn't get anxious about whether their fic is good enough on every possible front, and fic length is no exception. I've seen people who write longer works go "ugh I just wish I could write something short for once, how do they do it??", and I've seen people who write shorter things go "Idk if I should even post this, it's not long enough and I'll just clog the tag".

In about a single week's span of time, I saw one writer friend get an anon ask from someone who was apparently annoyed at how much time they "wasted" reading part of their incredibly epic beast of a longfic; and then I see another writer friend get an anon telling them they shouldn't write so much short fic cause longer stuff is better. Short and long works are different things. Neither one is inherently better or reflects more talent than the other, they use different skills. And the great thing about fandom is that there is a place for all of it, and there is stuff out there for all different preferences.

But fic writers already tend to be, on the whole, little bundles of constant anxiety about our writing. Seeing flippantly dismissive or downright mean comments about the type of writing we do is enough to bring anyone down, particular on an already-bad day / week / month / year.

So anyway... idk if any of that made sense, but thank you for the response 💙 And I'm glad you found that you do like short fics as well!

Tony duhhh. I'm not even kidding when I say i can legitimately write an essay on how much I love him <3 + he's the one that got me into MCU/Marvel in general. He's such a complex character and the things that really made me admire him the most are when he conquers his personal demons. One of the things that I love about him the most is that he just tries to be good, and there's just something so inherently human about it that you don't really see in other popular superheroes. And while his actions/decisions may sometimes be vilified by people, I've always empathised with what he does because I (and Steve LOL, see that Captain America/Iron Man Annual (2021) Issue #2) feel that his heart has always been in the right place. I can go on and on about him, but I once saw someone say this about Tony (especially 616!Tony i.e.) is that while all superheroes are willing to risk their lives for a noble purpose, Tony's willing to sell his soul.

Yelena <33 honestly I started liking her before Black Widow came out just on the basis that she's canonically asexual in 616 + I saw that Florence Pugh was gonna play her in MCU. And hello??? A badass Russian assassin who can kill people with her bare hands and has the same sexuality as me?? Listen, there's not a lot of asexual characters out there okay, and when they are, they're not exactly in a media that I would want to watch (I literally cannot force myself to watch something just on that basis alone so). I didn't like her before WandaVision, however, I do blame the writers for that and wished they didn't write her MCU origins the way they did!!! UGH!!! But yeah, the part that made me start liking her in Wandavision was that last episode where the townspeople were confronting her for her actions and she was just crying because she finally realised that her actions are hurting people. And I guess im just excited to see where her character arc is going to go, and I'm fine if MCU wants to make it a redemption arc or a corruption arc because (to me) she's complex and interesting enough for it.

hey!! you know i've been super on the fence about getting fc6, i thought when the collapse dlc arrived i'd finally bite the bullet but i just haven't been in the headspace to play it lol! so i'm probably gonna wind up waiting until it goes on sale later in the year to actually PLAY it

that being said i have definitely seen bits and pieces thanks to following the #fc5/#fcnd tags!!! which is pretty much what i expected and hoped for lol since i've been unmotivated to play myself. i like some of the gifsets i've seen but admittedly i'm missing a lot of context. i went feral for a minute seeing horses tho, ngl
