the possible future of the hatchetfield series: hatchetfield halloween party livestream full rundown
again apologies if someone has already done something like this, but I’m procrastinating doing my coursework and just want to talk about hatchetfield I want everyone to be aware of this exciting stuff that was announced in the stream so here you go:
the next starkid musical to be released will not be in the hatchetfield universe.
the guy who didn’t like musicals will soon be ready to license.
nightmare time 3 was originally planned to be released in the same year as nightmare time 2 and will wrap up the overarching nightmare time stories (which seem to be miss holloway and the foster sisters respectively).
if they did a fourth hatchetfield musical, it would be about miss holloway and her backstory. it is already written. I am very very extremely normal about this fact 😃
there is a possibility of a hatchetfield movie, and workin’ boys was sort of a test for this concept. it would be a slasher murder mystery centering around the hatchetfield community players (zoey chambers and the cast of workin’ girls, possibly also with ruth, hidgens, alice and any other theatre-oriented characters but that part’s just my speculation). the transcription of the teaser description can be found below the nmt descriptions.
ok so here are the transcriptions of the nmt3 episode descriptions:
Story #1: Bottle Imps
Bill Woodward has been chosen to test CCRP’s latest and greatest product; Bottle Imps. These reality-bending buddies will bring their owner the one thing they desire most. When his new imp, Lovely, leads him to his soulmate, Bill decides to use his magical companion to play matchmaker. But to help Charlotte find the man of her dreams, Bill will have to bend the Imp’s rules. Rules he’s been warned, must never be broken…
Story #2: Frankenruth
Desperate to see a naked body, Ruth Fleming and Richie Lipschitz volunteer at the morgue of St. Damien’s Hospital. Their terrible plan becomes exponentially more terrible, when they become unwitting subjects in the experiments of the body-snatching madman, Doctor Laszlo, who claims to have conquered death itself. If Hatchetfield thought Ruth was bad before, then they will cower before the unspeakable horror of… Frankenruth!
Story #3: Becky Barnes Climbed a Tree
Becky Barnes is on top of the world! Not in a literal sense, of course. She’s deathly afraid of heights. After years of struggle, Becky’s life is finally everything she dreamed it would be. She’s engaged to her high school sweetheart, Tom Houston, and the two have a surprise baby on the way! But, as the couple prepare for the arrival of baby Marie, a shadow from Becky’s past returns to haunt them.
Story #4: Devil’s Night
Tim Houston has a crush. Unfortunately, it’s on his older, mature and totally cool babysitter, Grace Chasity, who he fears will never see him as anything but a snot-nosed little kid. But when a devilish maniac with murderous designs on Grace attacks Hatchetfield the night before Halloween, Tim must protect his beloved, or join the killer’s growing body count. It’s another slashing adventure on the night HE came home… Devil’s Night.
Story #5: (long special episode) Miss Holloween
It’s Halloween in Hatchetfield once again, and Miss Holloway is celebrating the same way she’s done for decades, staving off the horrors that go bump in the night. But when Duke gives her an invitation to his wedding, the dejected Miss Holloway begins to chafe under the terms of a contract forged many years ago. She strikes a new bargain, but unfortunately her creditors are known for their tricks, not treats. Just as Miss Holloway gives up her powers in exchange for a mortal life, a monstrous new threat rears its ugly head. As All Hallows Eve descends, and all Hell breaks loose, Miss Holloway must save the town or die trying… for real this time.
Story #6: (long special episode / season finale) Orb Weaver
Lex Foster had a life once. A home. A boyfriend. Now there is only the road, and her sister, and the fear of the men who are hunting them. As Hannah Foster watched Lex sink deeper into despair, she is certain of only three things: Webby is gone. She cannot help them. They are alone. Elsewhere, an old soldier awakens from a catatonic state. Returned from some unimaginable Hell with a mission. He knows that somewhere, two magical girls require immediate evac… then maybe some coffee.
very important: if you want nightmare time 3, WATCH NIGHTMARE TIME 2. BUY A TICKET TO THE LIVESTREAM. SHOW THAT THERE IS LOVE AND DEMAND AND IT’S WORTH THEIR TIME AND MONEY I AM BEGGING YOU
hatchetfield movie: Cast Party Massacre
The Hatchetfield Community Players. You will never find a cattier troupe of two-faced thespians. But when the blood begins to flow at their latest show’s cast party, they must consider: is there a secret murderer in their midst? And more importantly, who amongst them is a good enough actor to pull off such a performance? Can they set aside their petty squabbles and tangled romances, or is it curtains for this ensemble? Who will survive… the Cast Party Massacre!

I don’t know if it’s because it’s 1 am right now but I am very sad about Ruth Fleming and I’m gonna talk about it, you can’t stop me:
I’m also a theatre kid - I’ve been taking acting classes since the age of eight - so I recognise the pure joy and triumph in Ruth’s eyes as she performs ‘Just For Once’, finally taking a starring role, but also the wistful sadness because she will never be able to properly play the role (Lauren Lopez is an incredible actress). She is so happy, possibly the happiest she’s ever been - she’s free from the bullying and is able to indulge in her greatest dream for just a moment. And the dream is more than just the chance to perform. It’s joked about throughout the show that Ruth is horny and wants to get with someone, but the context is so much sadder. Ruth is incredibly lonely, even telemarketers won’t talk to her - she just wants somebody to touch her, to love her. In her song, her crowning glory, she can imagine a suburban life, glorifying the struggles of a middle-aged mother because she will never have even this, and she knows it. People don’t ever leave Hatchetfield, and if they do they never return. Ruth is seen as weird, and reputations are everything in Hatchetfield. By the time Ruth graduates, nobody will want to date her if they knew her in high school. Nobody will ever start a family with Ruth, so she throws herself into her performance with so much passion and desperate hope, because at heart she is still a child, barely eighteen, and children dream of love. Then, Max boos her, just as Ruth is happiest. He mocks her with theatrical terms, turning what she loves into another way to bully her, to cow her into submission. Ruth Fleming dies as she lived - alone. Then, what happens after she dies? The police mention Ruth’s demise to Grace and from what I remember, the girl barley reacts. Then, in the final mention of Ruth, Grace makes a joke as she asks Peter if his cell plan covers calls to Hell because “she’s bisexual and dead, where else would she be?” Ruth is seen as a joke even in her last moments. Unwept, unmourned. Her best friend died before she did and she never got a chance to truly mourn. Who will pray for Ruth now she’s gone? Certainly not Peter and Steph, not with Grace’s looming insanity to worry about. Ruth Fleming is played as a joke, but she is a truly tragic character, and more people need to acknowledge this.

Why The Witch From Mercury is Important to Me
Tumblr media
This will be a long, somewhat rambling and mostly personal thread. It's not about the show's quality or any issues I had about it (and YES, the show is flawed and has issues), but about why G-Witch's characters and themes were important to me and I think many others. Most of this I've already shared to a degree, but I wanted to expand my original thoughts, and put them all into one post.
I've been a Gundam fan for over 20 years, I got into the series with Wing on Toonami and have watched the vast majority of the animated series. As a woman, I longed for the day Gundam would have a female main character in the spotlight of a major show, but honestly at some point I'd given up on it. I just thought that if they hadn't done it by now, they never would.
Then, last March, they released this short 30 second trailer revealing The Witch From Mercury, and showing off Suletta and Aerial, and I was ecstatic! Finally, a female MC in a Gundam series, I was so excited for a new Gundam series for the first time since 00! I watched that short clip countless times over the months in anticipation of the series airing, I even grew addicted to the little song that plays during it.
youtube
Over time, the characters and key art were revealed and I saw some people float the idea that maybe Suletta and Miorine would be love interests. I didn't pay it any mind at the time. I was sure they'd milk their relationship for bait along the way, but there was no way they'd commit to Gundam's first female MC being gay. Even after the first episode aired I was still skeptical: There was the bait I was expecting, they're not seriously going to go through with it though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here we are, almost 10 months after G-Witch started airing, and Suletta & Miorine are married. It not only wasn't bait, but they committed to it in a way I never would have imagined coming from a franchise I loved like Gundam. It was done with care and respect for the characters, it didn't feel like it was exploitative or added just for fanservice, but was a very real relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll admit, I was initially among those disappointed we didn't see a kiss or the wedding at the end, but my greatest fear was the ending would be as ambiguous as possible, or even worse, walk back what we'd seen, so as not to offend people. Instead we got the sister-in-law line, the matching wedding rings, how close they were and they way they looked at each other with love and talking about going home together. We didn't see them kiss or see the wedding, but we got to see them married, and I think that's incredible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a gay woman, and a Gundam fan of over 20 years, Suletta is an immensely important character to me. Suletta and Miorine's relationship, and it being a central focus of the story, is immensely important to me. They're things I dreamed of having in Gundam, but never really thought would ever happen. I've been so happy about them for a long time now, but these last two days I've been so unbelievably happy that I was given their story. I love them so much and I'm never going to forget these two.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this ties into why I think G-Witch has been important to so many people, regardless of how they feel about it's quality, because of it's representation and themes. Suletta, the main character of the show, is a queer, neurodivergent, disabled woman of color. She was well written, and she got to have a happy ending married to the woman she loves, where she's thriving and happy despite her mobility. She's not treated with pity or remorse, and she's still pursuing her dreams of making a school.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And not just Suletta, there were so many characters belonging to different minority groups that got strong representation and happy, satisfying endings. If you're a woman, if you're queer, if you're a POC, if you're any sort of ND, if you're disabled, The Witch From Mercury not only gave you good representation, but also said you're deserving of love, empathy and happiness.
With regard to it's themes, I absolutely love how G-Witch stressed love, empathy, compassion, acceptance and forgiveness over hate, vengeance, punishment and karma. Suletta and Miorine made many mistakes during their journey that they could never take back, but they accepted each other, including their mistakes, and resolved to move on together and makes amends for them if possible. Suletta never got mad at Miorine, Prospera or Eri for the things they did to her and she never blamed them, all she did was understand and accept why they did the things they did, and move forward with her love for them. She accepts the people she loves, mistakes and all, because of her unrelenting love and compassion for them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even Prospera, the main antagonist, ultimately rejected revenge for the sake of saving her daughter. She was a less than stellar parent to Suletta, and her actions lead to a heavy death toll, but ultimately Suletta accepted her and her actions to save Eri. And rather than go for an easy karmic death, she was allowed to have a happy ending: Eri was saved, and she's living a peaceful life with her family. A life that was robbed from her 24 years prior.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And ultimately, those themes are why we had an ending where literally no one died, and nearly every character got to have a happy ending. Gundam has always said that violence is bad, but The Witch From Mercury was the first to say "Alright, then we'll solve the problem without violence." We got a big magic spell that was a Gundam Pride Parade in space, and combined with Miorine's actions, events were resolved peacefully.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's why G-Witch is important to me. It gave me and many others representation in ways you almost never get from a major franchise like Gundam, and without feeling like it was doing it to just check boxes off on some executive's diversity list. It stressed themes of love, empathy and acceptance and rejected hate, revenge, karma and even death. And I think that's incredibly important in this day and age. Representation Matters. Love Matters.
I've been very emotional over this show the last two days because I've been loving it for a while now, and while I'm sad to see it end, I'm so grateful that it happened, flaws and all. I've been crying on and off since the last episode ended and I've had trouble sleeping, but I've been so unbelievably happy over what this one show did and how much it's meant to me. The characters may not be real, but the happiness Suletta & Miorine have brought me is very much real.
For me; Suletta, Miorine, and The Witch From Mercury were truly a blessing.

atla live action thoughts: season one review
first things first: anyone who says the Movie That Does Not Exist is better than the live action is straight-up lying. the shymalan film fails on the criteria of even being a decent movie, let alone an adaptation. the netflix series, for all its problems, is at least an enjoyable watch with great effects, music and (mostly) appropriate casting. there's absolutely nothing to compare here - the netflix version clears easily.
now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's delve into the series, starting with the positives.
the good:
visuals and cinematography. they really did a great job of making it feel like a fantasy universe you wanted to be in & i love how vibrant the saturation and colour grading was. it made the world feel so much more dynamic and alive instead of the same flat, boring dullness that so many movies and shows have these days. sometimes i didn't even mind that i was being fed obvious exposition because at least they were giving me something pretty to look at lmao
effects and action. the bending was surprisingly good for the most part, and they did a good job of making the elements feel unique through the stunt choreography and the actors' movements. i'm immensely thankful they didn't try to skimp on budget by merely cutting away from fight scenes or showing us as little as possible. almost all the action sequences were fast-paced and engaging, and i was never bored watching them
acting. the main four were all great, but gordon cormier and dallas liu have to be the standouts for me. gordon brings such an earnest, innocent sweetness to aang that you can't help but like him, and dallas plays all of zuko's facets perfectly: the angst, the explosive anger, the bratty snark, and especially the deep-rooted pain that characterizes so many of zuko's actions in book 1. the range he has, especially when flashing from younger to older zuko, was insane. special shoutout to maria zhang and sebastian amoruso as suki and jet respectively, because they killed it
music. leaves from the vine instrumental had me tearbending and i love how they kept the iconic avatar theme while making it a little darker for this iteration of the story. in general, the soundtrack felt very true to the animation while still being a fresh spin on it
zuko and iroh's relationship and expanding on zuko's crew. i think the fandom universally agrees that lu ten's funeral and zuko's crew being the 41st division were the best changes in the series, so i'm not going to talk about it further other than to say that these scenes show me what the show can be, and that's why i'm not giving up on it
the bad:
characterization. almost all the main characters are missing the little nuances that made them so great in the original, but the greatest casualty is katara. i hate that they took away so much of her rage, and gave many of her traits and struggles to sokka. i don't think this is a problem solely with the writing though, because certain lines do feel like things animated katara would say, but the directing and line delivery don't have the same punch that made her so fierce in the original. this is an easily fixed issue though, so i hope they take the criticism and let my girl be angry and fuck shit up next season
exposition. this was primarily a problem in depicting aang's personality and the relationship between the gaang, because a) why are you TELLING me that aang is mischievous and fun-loving instead of just showing me and b) the gaang do NOT feel like close friends, mostly because they spend so much time apart in every episode that they have little screentime to actually bond and develop intimacy.
lack of focus on the intricacies of bending. for a show whose tagline is "master your element" the characters spend very little time actually... mastering their element. zuko is never shown to struggle with firebending (which is going to have ramifications when it comes to developing his relationship with azula), and neither aang nor katara ever learn waterbending from a master throughout the the entire show. i'm pretty sure aang never willingly waterbends ONCE in the entire eight episodes, discounting the avatar state and koizilla. bending isn't just cool martial arts, it's closely linked to the philosophies and spirituality of each nation, and i wish that had been explored more.
pacing. they really needed to do a better job of conveying that time passed between episodes because an 8-episode season is just going to FEEL shorter than a 20-episode one. the original animation felt as though they'd truly been on a long journey before arriving at the north, but here it feels like the entire show happened in the span of a fortnight or so because each episode seemed to pick up right after the previous. they needed to have more downtime within episodes instead of just rushing from plot beat to plot beat because it made everything feel a lot more rushed. give the characters and story time to breathe.
final rating: 7/10.
overall, i would describe the live action as a better version of the percy jackson movies - not an accurate or perfect adaptation, but a decent story that's very fun to watch. but what really makes me root for this show to get a season 2 is that it has a lot of potential and more importantly, a lot of heart. it's evident that the people who worked on it do genuinely love and respect the original series, and it shows onscreen.
regardless of anything else, this show created opportunities for so many asian and indigenous actors, writers and creators to tell the kinds of stories and play the kinds of roles they don't usually get, and that's something worth supporting. if they take the criticism from this season and improve, i believe they really do have something special on their hands which - although it might not be the original we all know and love - could still be a story to be proud of.

Annabel Lee & Fears: A Short Essay Based On Ep70
Here it is, folks, the truest crux of Annabel’s character, her deepest fears is not going mad or even people discovering she’s not as put together as she tries to appear, but rather:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Was that gambit of constant scheming and using others worth it, Annabel? Was always trying to think ten steps ahead and always keep yourself in a position of power and control truly worth it, because how can you ever be trusted when all you do is play 5D chess with everyone?
There is is, folks!!! Just like her greatest strength- her cunning willpower- is centered around a certain bright moon, Annabel’s greatest fear is rooted in Lenore. The deepest, darkest trenches of her soul, the one thing that would shatter her heart and send her lungs choking fer breath? The killing blow that would end her and make all these charades worthless? It’s Lenore seeing her constant conniving and asking Annabel, “Why would I be any different? You already have no problem using everyone else as a pawn, how could I ever possibly trust you, Annabel Lee?”
The way Annabel is SUCH a great morally grey character, y’all tell me you love hot villains yet many a time I’ve seen people calling Annabel too heartless. She’s the opposite! She cares!! SO MUCH!!! She would burn the world down if it meant kissing Lenore one last time, to the point where her deepest fear is losing Lenore in the process of trying to protect her. All Annabel knows is using manipulation to gain the upper hand because simply being born a woman in the Victorian era she was so throughly disadvantaged by such a horribly misogynistic society that girlypop had to scrape together any form of control she could. Annabel wants so badly to protect Lenore but all she knows are her own methods of protecting herself, which involves plausibility deniability and facades and sometimes sheer cruelty, and that’s where the conflict arises. From the start Annabel assumed Lenore and her had the same understanding of this ‘fake enemies’ ploy going on but surprise surprise babygirl, not everyone is overthinking four parallel universes ahead like you do. This boils over into her lover having doubts on what’s real and what’s not, which then culminates into Lenore asking if Annabel is using her affections as empty currency to get what she wants, and Annabel’s first move to tell Lenore to fucken kill her????
Tumblr media
“To you alone, I have left myself completely defenseless.”
The drama of it all!! The shattered facade leading to exploding vulnerability of it all!! The dim sun sparking out into a heat death just to prove her sincerity of it all!!! The exposed innermost organs ripping out my heart with my bare hands and begging you, “Do you see it now? Do you see the way it beats for you and only you? Tell me you see it, tell me you see me…” of it all!!
Oh baby the way Annabel still retains this deep fear of Lenore not truly believing in the “only thing that’s real” to her, the way her lover’s ghost still lingers and haunts her and is then ripped up from her innermost psyche like a desecrated grave and given form by Ada’s power. The way, after all this time- and I mean all this time from Lenore’s constructed resurrection, to their relationship blossoming into a wedding, all the fucking way up to that bell tower scene, the fucken way Annabel still never truly let go of her fear that Lenore doesn’t see her, doesn’t see how she alone bashed through all of Annabel’s walls and made a home where her heart laid. I’m sure during their living relationship all the way until the wedding Annabel’s fears were greatly settled, but it’s the fucken way these panels implied that this wretched heartache never completely left Annabel’s guilt-wracked soul.
Tumblr media
I just know, okay I just KNOW, that even up until she was putting her wedding dress on Annabel still questioned if she even deserved this happy ending because she still feel phantoms of guilt fer this betrayal. This comic only furthers this implication of unabsolved guilt when it’s made clear as day that Annabel’s biggest fear is Lenore not believing in her love. And before anyone argues how Annabel can currently feel guilt fer betraying Lenore when she hasn’t recovered the memory yet, I’ll argue back that from the very beginning of the comic these two were inexplicably drawn to each other even when they had NO memories. Therefore, even if she doesn’t have the explicit memory, I highly doubt Annabel’s subconscious would ever let go of something as huge as deeply hurting the one person she truly cared about in such a wretched way.
Fuck, dude, I mean Annabel’s greatest fear wasn’t even Lenore dying- which was already a huge thing if y’all remember her tearstreaked, panicked, “What is left? If she’s not here, what’s the point?”- no her greatest is Lenore!!! Not!!! Believing!! Her!!! Like yeah losing Lenore physically definitely would’ve cut so deep even her bones would bear the scars, but losing Lenore in the form of the other woman walking the same ground as her but choosing to stay away?? Call her fucking selfish because some people would rather have their other half still be alive even if they’re not by their side, but Annabel ain’t one of them that’s fer sure. Babygirl has spent a lifetime perfecting the craft of deceiving others fer her own gain, but the ONE TIME she’s genuine her heart is to be called nothing more but empty??? Oh babbyyy that’s gotta fucken hurt.
Tumblr media
The thing is, I don’t think Annabel really loves herself all that much. I really don’t. A huge focus on self-preservation doesn’t necessarily mean one really loves themselves, and when we add the aforementioned guilt she carries? Plus, the fact that Annabel being forced to swallow down her anxiety attacks from a young age could easily lead to her having a rather sour view of her 'not normal' self? Yeah no yeah, I truly don’t think Annabel loves herself that much, if at all. So really, this line is adding immense insult to already grievous injury. Not only does Annabel deeply fear Lenore not believing her affections to be true, she also fears the New Yorker misconstruing her as nothing more but a shallow as hell, prissy, little pampered damsel, a role pretty much everyone else regulates her into whether she wants it or not (right from the beginning, before she even set her schemes in full effect, Annabel was already explaining, “Ada wanted a queen, so I gave her one”). Lenore, the only one Annabel had believed to ever really see her fer her, is now discrediting Annabel’s vulnerable affections AND seeing her as that unloving ice queen like everyone else?? Horrible terrible horrible!!! She may have a ribbon threatening to strangle her right now, but it’s clear that ghost!Lenore’s words are what truly cut her down to size. Y’all seeing that fucken pain in Annabel’s eyes? Her worst fear is just so… personal.
Which actually leads me to my next point, which is how just before Annabel’s worst fear is revealed in stark, horrifying detail, we see Prospero’s. Lemme just preface this by saying what Prospero went through is n o t any less terrible and is a super fucken mega valid fear/trauma, but let me cook y’all just hear me out. Prospero’s fear seems to be about medical malpractice and/or being conscious during a painful operation that likely went south (aka ‘oh shiiitttt he fucken DEAD-‘), and that’s fucking tragic as all hell. Yet, okay let me cook here, it’s more… I don’t want to say general, because that does NOT mean his fear is any less significant but it’s like. Way back when, death via medical bullshit was more or less fairly common, especially during wartimes (which is the era I headcanon Prospero to be from); meanwhile, Annabel’s fear is so uniquely hers, it’s borne of a culmination of specific experiences tied together by her relationship with Lenore.
By contrast of a more common fear vs something so deeply personal and specific to this one person- because it’s not just unrequited love, it’s being so vehemently denied and misunderstood by the ONE (1!) person who you wholeheartedly trusted in your entire life who also oops mega died on you- this distinction gives way to an almost more raw, more visceral feeling to Annabel’s fear sequence. Again!!! I am not undermining Prospero’s own trauma, I promise!!! But you have to admit that there’s something, from a narrative standpoint, that hits so much harder with how deeply personal Annabel’s fear is. The contrast is even more great when you look at how Prospero’s involved a buncha bloodied hands not really tied to any faces or even any indication of personhood like accessories, scars, etc etc. It could’ve been a group of anyone holding him down hurting him; on the flipside, Annabel is being restrained by one very specific person we see in full view. The faceless crowd who could’ve been anyone at anytime vs the lone perpetrator whose history you know like a second name. It’s just!!! So personal!!!
In conclusion, on the surface level, one would think a character so deeply ingrained in using deceptions and manipulation would have her greatest fear tie into having her true nature revealed to everyone she’d fooled, but then it turns out it’s the complete fucking opposite. What homegirl fears the most is her truest, innermost self not being believed and accepted by just one (1!) person. The way it’s framed is just so heartstabbingly personal, especially when you parallel it to a previous fear sequence just a few panels preceding it. This is it, your honor, this is Annabel’s deepest driving force broken down to its bare essentials. To hell with whatever reputation she’s carefully crafted! Who cares what anyone else thinks of her if she doesn’t believe her, if she doesn’t SEE her. Really, truly see her. Lenore is the defining point that Annabel has revolves around so wholeheartedly, and there’s no point to anything anymore if Annabel loses her. This crux of her character, OHHH BBAAABBYY it’s just so well done because we, as the audience, have been given clear evidence to build up this narrative of Annabel’s characterization fer so long now and to finally see it come together in a fiery explosion of lesbian angst with this latest chapter??? Gods, the writing of Nevermore will never not drive me absolutely insane in the membrane.

Redemption IF
Tumblr media
Demo (tba)
Genre: Romance, Young Adult
Themes: Reflection, Sacrifice, Second chances
Dig two graves if you want revenge. For redemption, you only have to dig once.
You rush down the living room, your mother yelling at you to slow down as she was cleaning. You made a quick apology, before running towards the doorway meeting your sibling halfway there.
"Woah, slow down, you are in no rush after all," your sister exclaims. "You literally yelled my name and added 'urgent', so what gives?" You retort while giving a slight shrug.
She just smiles, giving you a poster. "I found this, that's why!" You consider her excitement, skimming over the words. You work out the words "Competition", and after, "Astra Academy" and immediately thinking of ways on how you could compete.
This is just a too perfect of an opportunity.
Tumblr media
You were a student and a duelist enrolled in the best school in the country by scholarship. You have competitions, or rather enemies of sort, but you are better than them. Until one unfortunate night that caused your expulsion...
Five years later, you come across a poster presented by your sister. The poster shows a flaring base that can pique interests of others, and that is just the catalysts. It turns out, the Academy will be rewarding a very generous price to the winner; enough to turn your whole life around.
Blood, sweat, and tears will be shed. You, however, will shed more than that. Your history is complicated, your future is distant, and the journey is beyond treacherous.
Will the prize be worth the effort? If it is for your family, right?
⇨ Play as a person in search of redemption.
⇨ Customize your MC's appearance, gender, and sexuality.
⇨ Shape your skills throughout, master different forms.
⇨ 10 characters to meet, and 6 different characters to romance.
⇨ Reconnect with old relationships, weather it be rivals or friends.
⇨ Decimate your rivals, or spare them from your wrath.
⇨ Win the tournament... or not.
Tumblr media
Romantic Options
🃁 Lys (M/F)
Possibly the greatest duelist inside the Academy... that is when you are not around. They are your ex, and still show hostility towards you. Perhaps you two could set aside your difference.
🂲 Page (M/F)
Your former classmate and closest friend in your circle. It has been years since you two had seen each other, and they went through many changes, however they still are a total airhead.
🂳 Rain (M)
A person with an interesting set of skills. His reason of joining is simply for fun, and to learn. He doesn't seem to have any interest in winning, but he hangs around to watch and cheer.
🂴 Yuna (F)
A person with an oozing positivity. She is charismatic, tolerable, and just a nice person in general. While she has some interest in competing, it is totally fine for her to loose.
🃅 Serai (M)
The most passionate player you will come across. His only hopes in this tournament is to win and nothing else. He will do everything to get this recognition.
🃆 Elaine (F)
A more laidback person than her brother, Serai. She does share the same goal as his brother, but is more accepting in whatever they receive.
Platonic Options
🃑 Resha (F)
Your number one fan, and sister. Even thought time is tough for you and her, she is very energetic and constantly bounces around. Her specialty, much to your dismay, is to annoy you everyday.
🃒 Anders (M)
Your favorite teacher. He is quite a father figure to you, he is the one who pushed you outside your comfort zone and shape you to the person you are today.
🂣 Whitey (M/F)
Your rival. They pretty much hate you more than Lys does. You pretty much have beaten in every duels, duo matches, and free-for-alls. They changed a lot, but their hatred still remains a passion.
🂤 Red (F)
Your former classmate, and another one of your rivals. There is no hate between you, since she is more of a training partner, though that doesn't mean they will go easy on you.

I decided to rewatch Pride and Prejudice and the similarities to Elain's current situation continue jumping out to me.
First Elain (aka Elizabeth) was not the sister expected to find the best match in marriage. In P&P, Jane was the "most beautiful" one (in ACOTAR that's technically Elain) but the fact that Jane (aka Nesta) was almost guaranteed to secure a wealthy husband is similar to how Mother Archeron raised Nesta on the belief that she was their hope for an advantageous marriage. Neither Mrs. Bennett nor Mother Archeron believed Elizabeth (or Elain) to be their "meal ticket", so to speak.
In the end, while Jane (Nesta) did marry someone with an impressive pedigree, it was Elizabeth who ended up marrying someone of an even higher station. Just like Elain is mated to someone who (unknown to them at this time) is set up to become a High Lord.
But before Elizabeth ended up with Darcy, she showed an interest in Wickham, having washed her hands of Darcy after their first meeting (and a few thereafter). It's clear that though she was still drawn to Darcy on some level (talking about him even if it was just to complain, paying close attention to his conversation with Caroline Bingley, showing surprise / confusion after he helps her into the carriage), we see her continually remind herself and others that she has "sworn to loath him for all of eternity" because of the initial impression she had of him.
I always find it strange when people compare Az / Elain to Darcy and Elizabeth because Darcy and Elizabeth's romantic tension is born from their initial disdain which is what makes their later glances and lingering touches so memorable. Her thinking that he has hated her from the start and then being surprised when his actions suggest otherwise (in that way, Lucien would be more like Elizabeth's character, thinking that Elain has no interest in him).
But Az and Elain are completely lacking in the enemies to lovers department.
To me, Az would be more like Wickham in the story.
Elizabeth has convinced herself she has no interest in Darcy and instead turns her eye to Wickham who begins showing her attention. She's convinced that he's a good man and that Darcy is further proven in the wrong until we later find out Wickham is the one who kept truths from Elizabeth (which is line with Az telling the reader that Elain had no idea the things he had done meaning he hides parts of himself from her). And just as Elizabeth's favor of Wickhams fell once she learned of his true colors, it seems Elain's favor of Az has fallen after he called her a mistake. After the truth became known in P & P, there was no real confrontation between Elizabeth and Wickham because their relationship never really got off the ground and I imagine the same will be said for E/riel.
Even though Elizabeth eventually realizes that Darcy is a great man, she's still stubborn and unwilling to admit it until the end (hence why her father, mother and Jane are shocked to find she wants to marry him, they were convinced she hated him - sounds a lot like Az's line of "she has no interest in him anyway").
P & P ranks as one of the greatest love stories of all time and it doesn't make it to the top of those charts because she had a sweet and gentle romance with Wickham, who looked like the "healthier" of the two possible love interests at first glance. Were Elizabeth and Wickham not at first friendly and agreeable towards one another, like E/riel, versus how Darcy and Elizabeth initially got along?
When Darcy first refuses to dance with Elizabeth then later does dance with her but barely makes conversation, is that not similar to Elain's refusal to get to know Lucien?
When Elizabeth begins to soften a bit towards Darcy then completely withdraws and refuses his proposal after she learns of the part he played in separating Jane and Mr. Bingley, is that not reminiscint of Elain walking with Lucien, inviting him back to Velaris at the end of ACOWAR only to do a complete 180 in the novella and SF where she all but ignores him?
The odds being stacked against two people because of misunderstandings and miscommunications since their first meeting, yet the couple still finding their way to one another is why the HEA feels so hard fought yet well earned for Elizabeth and Darcy and there's is no setup more similar to that than Elucien.

I love this chapter, even if it's really sad. Regrets, regrets, regrets... A great chapter to start a year, when you look back on what you'd have liked the past year to be. Poor Grandpa... And at the same time, he made the choice that makes this story possible and allows the two lovebirds to have the greatest ally. I don't know you, but I'm dying to see the next chapter. And, if you want to read about the play and the characters that the GenSou duo will perform in the upcoming chapters, LINK , it's gonna be grand. So sensei must have big plans for this year *fingers crossed*.
The first thank yous of the year goes Quietus, for her raws, and to my usual companions, Adamay and Toshirodragon, nothing of this would be possible without them and I can't thank them enough. You don't know how hard they've both worked to have this release ready for this day.
I hope you like the extra page at the end, took me a while to clean it! And the extra page at the beginning, now with the Tadaima Okaeri family complete, you just have to join both pages to get a wallpaper ;) And I hope you enjoy this chapter, to many more Hanakoi this year!! Cheers!!

i think what people tend to not understand about She-Ra (reboot) is that none of the characters (minus Horde Prime) are meant to be seen as pure good or evil. People get really pressed over how the princesses treat Entrapta (which i don't agree is right) or how Entrapta did betray them, thus making her a "morally grey character" because she has obsessions and shows signs of autism. But this isnt just something that happens with Entrapta, it happens with all of the characters. Catra and Glimmer are the next obvious, so i wont go into depth there, but for instance Adora can be very prideful. She lets the fame get to her head and isolates herself from everyone else in attempts to save the world. now, the latter isn't all her fault, Light Hope and Shadow Weaver made sure of that, but its still there. Mermista wants to be the center of attention, she wants to be the most powerful of the group and have something unique like She-Ra. Perfuma struggles to get along with people who are pessimistic or even more objective because it interferes with her "vibes." Scorpia isn't the greatest with boundaries, Frosta's a fucking child, Sea Hawk is a fucking arsonist (seriously why do we skip over that one? love him but my guy needs therapy), Angella is a coward who (despite her attempts to keep her away) sends her own daughter into battle before going out on the front lines herself, and yes, Entrapta betrayed her friends. Which, despite it being manipulated into something else here, wasn't good. She may not have understood how badly she hurt her friends (until S 5), but she actively knew that what Hordak was doing was wrong because she agreed to help the rebellion. She shows later on that while she doesnt pick up on emotional cues, she does understand what is going on, she just focuses on tech, but she gets the danger and the stakes, she knows. Let me say, however, that none of these traits, from any of these characters, make them "morally grey" (i hate that fucking term btw) it makes them human. none of us are perfect. we all have flaws, we will all hurt someone in our lives, we all make mistakes. it is how you try to rectify those mistakes, that determines whether or not your character is "good." Hordak, despite every terrible thing he did, realized he was wrong in the end, and rebelled. Entrapta apologized and sacrificed her life multiple times to save not only her friends, but the entire planet, even Shadow Weaver, who I could make a whole other separate post on, sacraficed herself so that not only Catra and Adora could live on together and save the world, but so that she wouldn't be tempted with the power that was about to be unleased. The only character i can possibly think of that doesn't have an obvious flaw (that i can see) is Bow, but he's not perfect either. To suggest so would to put in on a playing field in which no human (or complex character) could survive. So for the love of god, stop looking at it like Nate made only Entrapta "morally grey" because every character in that show made mistakes.
edit: thank you for those who made me aware of the proper name/pronouns the creator (Nate) uses now, i appreciate you!

Midoriya Izuku x Reader
Masterlist
Tumblr media
U.A. ball.
Every hero student in U.A. looked forward to it. After three years of training as heroes, they were given the chance to celebrate their breakthroughs and improvements on their incoming career as Pro Heroes. It was exciting indeed.
And Midoriya Izuku was delighted. Not just because he finally felt stronger than before and became much more confident, but because you were there.
You were stunning that evening.
The music played with so much life as the other students made a beeline for the dance floor, showcasing their mirth for being there. Illuminated by the disco lights above, shining green eyes became a shooting star as it landed on your seated form.
You. [Last Name] [Name]. His ever-loving childhood friend. He basked in your gentle demeanor, smiling so calmly as you watched the others dance.
You made no move to sit up nor ask other students to dance with you. You only sat there. Not with a looming gloom but with a contented expression. You were a proud loner that seeks nothing but solitude and Izuku admires that about you. In his eyes, you were amazing. He saw your own ways when it comes to interaction with other people and you were unfaltering. Always so composed albeit sometimes in a humorous way.
So you sat there with a gorgeous smile as you listened to your classmates beside you. You were a good listener so people tend to be rambling to you whenever. That leaves him quite jealous at times but who is he to think like that? He’s at least relieved that you were enjoying your time in such a crowded event. That’s all that would matter to him. Your comfort.
In addition to that, you were his comfort.
For as many times he could decide, you deserve so much more. He wants you to see that he can also be your greatest comfort, someone you’d want by your side no matter what happens. Izuku could only imagine things when it comes to relationships, and his heart swells at the thought of it.
The music suddenly shifted. From the constant beats of rhythm to a mellow swirl of instruments, the dance floor toned down to a slow dance.
At that moment, he took note how you shifted on your seat for a mere second before sighing joyously at the change.
He knew how much you enjoyed your own company but he couldn’t help but stare longer at you.
The way you would just giggle and laugh at jokes from others and give your small comments here and there was respecting enough. Your satisfied body rhythms as you bob your head to the song was cute in many ways. The smiles that you give to your classmates when they greet you was mesmerizing at its best.
Izuku could only tweak a small smile as he laid his elbows on the table, his chin resting on his palm.
Isn’t it a cliché dynamic in movies? The childhood friend falling in love with the main character.
Well, Midoriya Izuku is that childhood friend.
Evidently, a blush came up to his cheeks. It was too late to be going back into seeing you as just a friend. You were special to him and that won’t change sometime in the future. He wouldn’t say he regrets falling because just being close to you is enough to send him into a craze of joy. You were there at his lowest and even if you were no match to Katsuki back then, you still stood up for him. You have a kind heart, in return, that heart is what makes Izuku’s own beat faster.
“Stop that.”
“Huh?” Izuku let out. Turning his head beside him, he met a pair of glaring crimson eyes.
“I can clearly make out the look you’re giving her and it’s irritatingly idiotic.” Bakugou Katsuki continued. With a gritted teeth, he gave his green haired friend an irritated look.
Green eyes could only widen at his remark as shades of blush started to fade in on his cheeks. “K-Kacchan…. I’m not-“
“Shut it. You have googly eyes.”
Still blushing, the green haired man tried to conceal his vulnerability as much as possible. “W- What the hell does that mean?” Stuttering was not part of it as he only blew it by nervously looking away. Googly eyes? Was he really that obvious?
Clicking his tongue, Katsuki replied nonchalantly. “I’m not stupid and I’m sure as hell not unaware of your silly little crush on her. Almost everybody in class knows your ‘secret’ because you we’re too damn obvious, dumbass.”
Well, there it goes.
Izuku paled at information so much that he almost shouted his next words but thankfully, he refrained so because of the romantic atmosphere. “Y-You’re kidding.”
“The hell I am.” Katsuki grunted. Standing up, he placed his hands in his pockets. “Too bad, too late. I bet she also knows now too.” He then proceeded to leave the dumbfounded green haired man.
Izuku could only stare at nothing as he processed what he just heard.
“I’m so done. So, so, so done.”
How could he ever let this happen? He thought he was playing it cool and stuffs but he was actually playing it too cool for it to be awkward. No, he was very much obvious. Sure, Katsuki would’ve been lying to him to get him all worked up but he isn’t the type of guy to mess around with this stuff. He’d rather battle to death with him than scare him with absurd jokes.
Though, the crush part wasn’t actually absurd. It’s true.
Midoriya Izuku is crushing on his childhood friend. Repeating that thought again and again in his head seems to pull him out of reality. His cheeks won’t stop heating up especially now knowing that you might be aware of his hidden feelings.
How would you act now? Would you think of him less? You’ve been both in good terms so maybe you’re not all that bothered? No. Or maybe you could’ve been trying to brush it off to save your friendship?
Aaaaahhhh. He doesn’t know anymore.
But one thing does come in his mind. You weren’t that kind of person. You we’re too kind for that and surely, you wouldn’t just let it slide off. You would do your best to talk and confront because you will seek assurance.
You once told him that you knew too much how it feels like to be left out. Even when you like to bask in the comfort of your own world, there were times on your past that made you feel insignificant. But that eventually changed.
His emerald eyes then landed on your seated form, chatting with his other classmates. Of course, you didn’t talk much but you did try to go for small talks. You giggled and smiled at their words. Izuku wouldn’t stop thinking of it. He wouldn’t stop thinking how sweet you were and how you make him sigh dreamily. He looked at you with so much fondness that his heart would somewhat explode to bloom something more in him. Something that made his stomach flip.
Gosh, since when did he became so lovesick?
The thought made him frown, though, he was still flushing. Eyes never wavering at the sight of your existence.
It almost wavered though. You were now also looking at him.
Both of you stared at each other for a few good seconds as you stared back in a dumbfounded manner. Izuku was, well, shocked. It didn’t take long for you to wave at him with a smile that Izuku thought was cuter than before.
Quite taken aback from your action, he managed to wave back nervously. He almost scolded himself for being a nervous wreck when both of you are long-time friends. He just hopes you wouldn’t catch up on his little speck of shyness.
Thinking back to what Katsuki said, he felt like he should be doing something now. Since he said that everyone in their class are pretty much aware of his interest in you, he should be taking his risks now. Whether you know it already or not, you need to hear it from him and not from them.
For now, it’s him you should be listening to.
As decided, he stood up and walked towards you only to stop when he was close enough to face you. You gave him a questioning look as he stood there quite timidly.
You smiled up to him. “Hmm? What’s up, Izuku?”
Izuku almost twitched a wide smile for seeing you close, but he refrained.
“Uh…hey. So….I was gonna- Well, sorry if this is just sudden but…you know, I wanted to- to- “
Great. He’s stuttering. He just blundered his own front for being not too obvious in front of you that he could only hope you were dense enough to go past it.
Unfortunately or fortunately, that isn’t going to be the case.
You could only stare at him for a few moments, widening your eyes. You knew those gestures and those frantic eyes. Those stutters that were accompanied by his cute blushes. Sure, it might be something different as man to woman but it can be different when it’s entirely on a deeper sentiment.
Oh, hush, you. You shouldn’t jump to conclusions. You…really shouldn’t.
“You…want to dance with me?” You almost muttered.
The green haired man tensed. It’s now or never.
“How- um,…. Yeah….” He bit his lip for a few second. Frantic eyes searched for your own as he was caught in a moment of trance. Ah, you were doing it again, making his heart swell a lot. He then showed his palm to you.
“Will you dance with me, [Name]?”
Izuku could never miss the way your eyes shine with elation as you replied.
“I would love to.” Chuckling, you took his hand. Basking in on his rough palms that was somehow so soft in many ways. Taking his hand like this felt different as it ignited a fluttering joy in you. You flushed.
Leading you on the dance floor, hands where they needed to be, you both swayed to the song. You rested your hands on his shoulder as he rested his on your hips. You felt the growing shyness in you take over but you rattled it with a quick breath. Looking up to him, you locked eyes with emerald ones. You saw how his lips twitch up in a smile at your attention as you finally saw it close up.
His cheeks were red as he only smiled at you. A smile that seemed so different to the other ones he gave you because it was much more clear and precise this time. His eyes shine so brightly, brighter than the dancing lights across the venue.
That only made you clutch his shoulder a bit as your insides felt a thousand flutter of wings.
You weren’t keen on human socialization and having a significant other was almost crossed out on your list. You didn’t know whether you would be qualified to be one because of your likeness to be in solitude and not a mind speaker. You would only rely a lot on your sight to observe and thoughts to decide on.
But when it comes to Izuku, you were much more open. You always feel at the best of your ability and comfort because he was he. The most adorable and kindest man you’ve ever known. You could say there’s a mix of bias in there but you know your feelings are genuine.
Too genuine perhaps.
Although, you would definitely admit that, Midoriya Izuku is — no doubt — your type of man.
You only decided he is because he’s the only one you would adore and look up to. Growing up with him does things, and it makes your heart beat pound.
You scanned his face. His cute little freckles stayed true on its spot since childhood, now colored with a tint of blush. He was incredibly handsome, your heart swelled. His stares had seemingly turned into a much more genuine contrast as his fondness was flowing in every corner of his gaze. Once again, that shyness crept up to you as you blushed furthermore.
“I’ve been wanting to ask.” Izuku broke the moment first. You hummed in reply. “A-Are you interested in someone lately?”
Your heart skipped a beat.
“Oh….you mean like- romance and stuff?” That caught you off guard so now that shyness took over you in a matter of seconds. Nonetheless, you already decided. “I guess…maybe, yeah…”
“Oh…”
Silence.
“Will you tell me who? If- If its fine with you.” He should really work on his vocabulary in front of you more now. Not long did he received a hearty laugh from you. His gaze stayed on you as you flushed on his question.
Izuku smiled at that.
“If you’re interested in someone, Izuku, would you tell me too?”
Almost with a quick breeze of panic, he tried to maintain his nervousness. “Ah- Yeah, duh. Ahahaha…” He sweatdropped.
So you didn’t know. Izuku thought so. That honestly made him relief knowing that at least you would be able to hear it from him. Right now — if he can.
But you beat him to it.
“You’re cute, Izuku.”
Dumbfounded, Izuku stared. “Pardon?”
You giggled and replied. “Nothing.”
It sank in his mind as panic rose. “You did not just- just- brush that off.” His blush before had deepened its shade of red. Feeling much more conscious from your eyes even though he knows that you were just as embarrassed. “What you on about?” Looking away, he retorted with the same blush.
Fortunately, it doesn’t end there.
“I hope you got my hint.”
“Huh, hint?” Izuku darted his eyes back on you, only for him to bask on the sincerity of your words. You then smiled at him as your eyes-
Izuku relished in your fond gaze as your cheeks flushed — and your eyes only stayed on him, searching for something. As if you were expecting something from him and it hit him.
“Oh, shit.”
Your pretty little eyes widened for a brief second as you eventually laughed at his reaction. “You swearing always gets me.”
“How can I not? You… do you really mean it or you’re just messing around with me?” He frowned and pouted almost so childishly at you. He blushed furiously.
You looked at him with much more sincere, not wanting him to take it the other way. Tilting your head, you bit your lips before replying. “I meant it.”
“Like- meant it that way…if you know..”
At that very moment, a prolonged silence ensued. You already avoided his gaze as the man processed his thoughts. He felt the signal. You were right there, and both of you were expecting something.
“You’re really attractive.” He finally blurts it out.
.
.
.
.
“[Name], I like you a lot.”
It didn’t take too long for both of your hearts to erupt in a fluttering swirls of string that tug you towards each other. Cheeks mutually heating up from the growing tension. You looked up to him once again, recovering from your quick shock — you released your smile that took all of your shyness to spring it up.
Izuku finally said it and he could only tensed even more when you leaned forward, resting your head on his shoulder.
His heart was filled with warmth at the action as he smiled for the umpteenth time. And it only got wider when you said it.
“I like you too, Izuku…”

Hello! May I request a Yuma × fem!reader drabble where summer is coming, and she's started to wear more revealing clothes without a bra? Not necessarily sexual ones per se, but just how her showing more skin looks appealing to him and what his reaction(s) to that would be. Thanks!
I've tried making it as detailed as possible since I read that's what's most helpful to you, but please feel free to infuse your own headcanons about the character (if you have any)– I'd like to know the writer's perspective too💞💞
If no one told you that you’re amazing today, I’m telling you now that you are!
Pairings: Yuma x F! Reader
Type: Drabble
Word count: 200, more or less
Warnings: Slight suggestive theme, wholesome feels, man in love
Side bar: My first ask! Thank you very much 😭 I agree with your last statement, that’s mainly there so it can have all the parts you want included into the story so it’s to your liking. Otherwise my imagination will run wild! Anyways I hope you like it and feedback is always appreciated!!
Like always, characters are aged up appropriately.
Tumblr media
The sweltering heat may be influencing my thoughts, but it's frustrating how you always look impeccable.
Yuma loved the summer. The blooming flowers plays a good part, but it doesn’t compare to seeing you walk around in the thinnest tank top and no bra. It made it hard for him to focus on his garden, your shimmering skin the greatest distraction.
To be fair, everything about you was. He could never put it into words the affect you have on him, and today just made it more difficult for him—clear proof that he was still a man, regardless of his abilities.
You didn’t know he was coming until he embraced you from behind, burying his nose in your hair. In that millisecond, he felt that if heaven really existed it’ll be in the embodiment of you.
Yuma was grateful for very few things in all his life; you being at the top of the list no questions. Something about you always stirred something in him every time. Keeping his hands to himself was out of the question. He needed you more than he can comprehend how you made him like this.
“I know you do this on purpose, kitten.” he holds you tighter, his hands moving upwards slowly, “How can I teach you a lesson..” he teased, licking a strip up your neck.

ok since you mentioned stardew valley i have to ask: who do you think the m6’s favorite sdv characters would be?
-🍄
The Arcana HCs: M6 playing Stardew Valley
~ dear anon, there is a reason for why I am known as brainrot. you have somehow combined two of my greatest obsessions and for that you have my thanks. please enjoy! - brainrot ~
(spoilers for SDV content)
Julian
He's got a special soft spot for George and Evelyn. He just wants to be their grandson (not by marriage though, Alex isn't really his type)
Lowkey freaked out by the wizard at first, learns to get along with him anyways because he made it possible to talk to the Junimos
Enjoys most of the game play besides the farming and crafting. He doesn't have the attention span for all of that
Initially falls for Leah, ends up marrying Shane because he told the farmer to leave him alone and Julian takes that as a challenge
It's also strangely cathartic for him to be on the other side of the "I can help him heal" trope
He likes Leo but learning about the shipwreck is mildly triggering for him, he's very happy once it's resolved and he can forget about it
Completely forgets about the Community Center at first because he's too busy romancing all the marriageables. Gets back to it after he's had two kids and befriended all the villagers
Convinced that Mr Qi is secretly evil
Gossips to MC about all of the lore between the villagers
Asra
Gets into it for the aesthetic, stays for the Junimos
Their farm is a jumbled hodgepodge of all the weirdest plants they could find, with random plots of crops needed for different quests
Spends so much time in the mines, there's just so many interesting creatures down there (and he likes all the gems and minerals)
Dislikes Clint so strongly that they end up dating Emily for the vibes and spite
Ends up having Krobus move in as his roommate, but his ideal is playing with MC so he can marry them
Doesn't put any effort into befriending most of the villagers until it becomes a requirement to achieve perfection, ends up stopping by Pierre's every Tuesday to hang out with all the moms
Likes Mr Qi for his aesthetic, gets a little hung up on the Wizard because that's not how magic works
Obsesses over finding all the artifacts, becomes friends with Penny and the kids from their frequent Library visits
Takes full advantage of using Lewis's shorts to mess with him in every possible way
Robin reminds them of their mom and they don't know how to feel about that
Nadia
She has some very strong opinions about Lewis as a mayor and the more she plays and finds out about him the stronger those opinions become
Dedicates herself to the Community Center as soon as it's unlocked
Has a hard time deciding who to court at first. She likes to know her goal before she starts her journey, but it's hard to get a read on everyone right off the bat
Chooses Leah and knows she's the right one when she gets to help her spite her ex by living well and thriving
Perfection is her end goal as soon as she learns about it
Has a soft spot for Linus and Harvey
Her farm is impeccable. Perfectly planned out, greenhouse at max capacity, crops always timed to yield the most harvest per season
Takes a grim satisfaction in Haley and Emily's sisterly disputes
Always has the perfect present prepared for someone's birthday. Except Lewis. She hates that she has to befriend Lewis
Lowkey judgemental of Marnie for sticking with him
Maxes out crafting first and uses everything she makes
Thinks that Robin should be mayor instead
Muriel
He loves Linus. He wants to live in a tent like Linus too
Does not like the mines at all. Too much animal killing
Avoids Shane at first because he clearly wants to be left alone, ends up befriending him for the blue chickens, is grateful he did once Shane gets his act together
Marries Penny to get her out of the trailer and because her interactions stress him out the least
Terrified of Emily, Alex, and Haley, doesn't go near that house
Hates Joja Co with a passion. It's what got him to complete the Community Center, because he wanted to see Morris's empire crumble at his feet. And to make the Junimos happy
Avoids all community events as much as he can
Loves fishing, foraging, and crafting. The first villagers he got ten hearts with were the Wizard and Willy
Fiercely protective of Leo, adores the parrots, tolerates Mr Qi
Prefers to play with MC and Asra, especially because he really wants the Golden Chicken from achieving perfection but he doesn't like talking to the villagers or going in the mines
Half of his farm is chicken coops
Portia
She starting playing it for the fun of a "build a new life" game and kept playing it for the mines and the villager drama
She's got the entire Friendship and Gifts page on the Stardew Valley Wiki memorized
Thinks the wizard is awesome because he teaches her magic
Has so many opinions on who should be with who that it makes it hard for her to settle down with someone. She ended up with Abigail for the swordfights and adventure
Hardcore ships Gus with Willy, waxes poetic about their shared scenes with the crab invasion and giant omelet
Wants Marnie and Marlon to date so badly, she writes tons of fanfiction about Lewis being brutally dumped and the two of them getting together and adopting Leo
Has a personal grudge against Sebastian because people keep rooting for him over his little sister and no she's not projecting at all
She'll reach perfection eventually because she's that good at managing her tasks, but it's not her main objective
Attends every single community event and comes up with so many headcanons about why this villager always stands there and what's going on with that dialogue
Lucio
Accidentally went the Joja route at first and got ticked off when it meant he was the "bad guy" just because he has FOMO
He's all about the adventuring, his farm is mostly wild

Disney's Most Hated Villain 10 Years Later
Tumblr media
Now when I say "Disney's most hated villain", I don't mean he's the Disney villain that most people hate most, I literally mean he seems to be the villain most hated by Disney themselves. The shots taken at him in Big Hero 6, Frozen Fever, Kingdom Hearts III, Frozen II, and even recently in Once Upon A Studio all seem to suggest that there are some people high up at Disney who just really did not care for this guy, like they blame the ascendance of "twist villains" in Disney movies on him and want to take it out on him, despite how massively successful and popular the movie he was the villain of was and still is. It's just the most preculiar thing. A whole 10 years later and we've finally get another traditional, openly and bombastically evil villain in King Magnifico of Wish, and given how utterly polarizing that movie is turning out to be among all the earliest critics and audience viewers, I have to wonder if he'll now become Disney new punching bag for setting this new course! I swear, there's no pleasing folks these days!
But this post is for some thoughts on him and why I feel a lot of people online still get Hans wrong. He's not the most competently executed and well defined case of a twist villain, nor is he the worst, most bullshit twist villain ever who needed to be excised from the film so Elsa could keep the Big Bad spot. Taking him as he is, Hans is a B grade or C grade Disney villain at most, with lots of character potential even if it doesn't fully come together in the movie itself.
By far the most common and greatest misconception about Hans as a character is the idea that the moment of the reveal that he was an evil villain the entire time, and the very nature of re-establishing and re-contextualizing his character as a villain, is meant to cast him as some devious, manipulative mastermind who was pulling strings for the film's whole present day plot and had ill intent behind his every word and deed, even if that seems contradictory to the character we'd been watching up to that point. This is false. Hans has never mastered the chessboard, only played on it. He had a firmly set goal from the moment he showed up in Arendelle - become its ruler - but he did not have any solid plan on how he was going to make this ambition a reality. So he was winging it the whole movie. I mean, he basically says as much to Anna in that scene yet so many viewers were too distracted by reeling from either shock or confusion over the outing of Hans as the bad guy that they seemed to miss that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The crux of Hans as an antagonist in the film is that he is a broken soul who grew up miserable and with an absence of love in his life, and it warped him into a high functioning sociopath who can easily detach himself from his heart and emotions, becoming whatever the current circumstance or person he's presently interacting with best requires him to be in the ways that best advance his own interests. He's like the worst possible outcome of what Anna or Elsa could've grown up to be had their childhoods taken an even worse turn. And above all, he is a man of many masks, rarely ever showing his true face. The mask is hollow and flexible, serving as a mirror to whoever Hans is in contact with (His nice, adorkable, and worried moods perfectly match Anna's, his angry and confrontational moods perfectly match Weselton's, his saddened and sympathetic moods perfectly match Elsa's - absolutely none of it is authentic). There's only a select few times we see the mask pulled back and get to see Hans' true face, those times being these moments and shots here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first shot is him lowering the phony Prince Charming mask and visibly expressing that he was genuinely charmed to meet Anna. No, he doesn't have any "love at first sight" feelings for her, nor is he at the point where he plans on getting close to her and asking for her hand in marriage - it's simply an amused fondness for this quirky, clumsy Arendelle girl he just conversed with.
This next shot is him looking towards the mountain and realizing Elsa is there. In animation, there's even the briefest hint of a grin as he turns and gives orders afterwards, 'cause he wants to seize and exploit this opportunity to play the big hero for Arendelle. Also worth mentioning is that while Hans has no one he loves, he does treat his horse Sitron well. It's pretty much his only friend.
The infamous split second shot where Hans' eyes dart up towards the chandelier before he jumps to action and turns the soldier's crossbow away from Elsa and to the candelier that drops on Elsa. This is Hans as a Xanatos Speed Chess player shown in practice.
That smarmy, mean-spirited grin that comes over his face as he says the infamous, ever memetic line that reveals his villainy.
The shot when he sees Elsa has broken out of her prison cell. Again, the good guy mask is lowered to show he's not pleased.
THIS SHOT. This is Hans fully unmasked and fully unrestrained.
The last we see of him before he's thrown out of the story.
So what's with all the Hans hate, from Disney fans and Disney itself? TV Tropes' page of Character Perception Evolution states this:
Tumblr media
I'm not sure how entirely accurate this is since from what I recall, Hans and the twist of his villainy was getting shit on from very early on. I have to disagree that the twist was not properly foreshadowed or at least not in a way that was substantial enough (aside from those "lowering the mask" parts, all of Hans' lyrics in "Love Is An Open Door" put his intentions and the angle he was playing in plain sight, he immediately flip-flops his position when Anna charges him with looking over Arendelle in the sisters' absence, and right before the reveal he straight up lies by omission to Elsa's face by not telling her that he's currently the leading authority in Arendelle and thus has the power to grant her leniency rather than "persaude the other nobles" to do so), but the execution of the reveal with his sudden shift into a totally different character than the one we'd been watching for the previous two thirds of the film absolutely should've been handled better in execution; he needed to slow it down a bit in between saying that notorious line and snuffing out all the lit fires in the room while expositing in a villainous monologue sort of way. The idea that Elsa should've been the villain rather than Hans and Hans should've been the male love interest instead of Kristoph are simply opinions, and I'm not exactly in agreement with them, more on that in a bit.
I've said it plenty of times before and will repeat: to me, the most crippling weakness of Hans as the villain of this film is that the way he's been designed, the very nature of his sociopathic character who always wears masks, mirrors other characters, and comes up with new moves to advance his interests, rendered it very difficult for us to get a good grasp on who he truly is and feel like we'd really gotten to know him by the time the movie was over. And you could make the argument this isn't a flaw so much as it is a necessary evil in order to make Hans' role in the story work as best as it could...but I feel that argument falls flat when Disney/Pixar later gave us a similar twist villain who did what Hans did but better and even more effectively as a full-fledged character in a much shorter amount of screentime.
Tumblr media
Erenesto De La Cruz, like Hans, is first cast in a positive light and set up as a good guy in the story, though we don't meet him in person until the third act of Coco. Like Hans, he's got an amiable personality and fast strikes up a friendly relationship with the main character. Like Hans, he is very evidently not without genuine decent qualities. Like Hans, the reveal of him as a murderous sociopath who is the true villain of the story is a very shocking moment. And like Hans, he's a big factor in the climax and gets dealt a satisfactory karmic comeuppance. But the thing that set Ernesto apart from Hans is that he doesn't wear any masks to conceal he's "secretly evil". He has a public image that conceals this, yes, but for all the time he's on screen and an active agent in the story, he is his authentic self. All of the nicer qualities we see from him aren't made up, they're real parts of who he is...and who he is just also happens to be a vainglorious sociopath devoid of a conscience who will do anything to anyone under any circumstance in order to "seize his moment" and build up a legacy that keeps him the center of attention even long after he's passed away. While he's still under the mistaken belief that Miguel is his great grandson, before he learns he's actually that to Hector, he has him put away and draws a parallel to how he poisoned Hector to death as he does so - he was never at any point in life pretending to be Hector's best friend, "Hector WAS my best friend", as he puts it. And it just ultimately matters less to him than himself and his own self-interested pursuits. That is a truly chilling villainous character who leaves a strong impression after the movie's over despite how little he was on screen. Hans was almost that, but fell short of the mark because we were left with no clear picture of who he was.
Luckily for Hans, he did get other chances to show more character:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In closing, I will still have to defend Hans' position as the story's only true villain. Yes, Disney going all out with Elsa and her powers driven out of control from her fears as the primary antagonist probably would've been the best option, but once they were set on making Elsa much less of a villain than envisioned, someone needed to play the part in order to make the climax happen and it absolutely could not be the Duke of Weselton, a character so comically unpleasant and openly against Elsa and in it for his own interests rather than Arendelle's that there is no way in Frozen Hell that Elsa would ever be convinced by him of anything like Anna being dead from Elsa's own freezing powers. That lie had to come from someone who could convincingly make Elsa believe it because they'd come off so sincere, someone she'd think could have no possible reason to lie to her. It had to be someone like Hans, someone with a heart so frozen cold that he could effortlessly mimic human emotion he didn't really feel. That is a crucial part of the story's climax that, even beyond the danger to Anna's heart, was foreshadowed from the very beginning.

I just saw a post about how in A Scandal In Bohemia it’s the king that’s the villain and Sherlock realises that by the end and THAT
For years it's bugged me how (nearly) every single adaption of Sherlock Holmes I've ever seen wants to make Irene Adler out to be some stereotypical femme fatale and the only reason she's able to outsmart Holmes at all is because she's some kind of seductress and it's not at all because she is a genuinely very intelligent woman, because those adaptations (which are usually written by men) seem to think that she couldn't *possibly* outsmart
Sherlock under normal circumstances because he's the greatest detective ever and she's just a woman
It literally drives me insane and not only is it degrading to Irene's character to portray her like that, but Sherlock's character as well because it really shows a lot of strength of character to be able to realise that he was in the wrong for going off an assumption that the super rich monarch was in the right just because he was the client in the case. Not only that but the whole 'making her out to be a seductress who only outsmarted Sherlock because of she seduced him or something' is just playing into heteronormativity even though THEY LITERALLY SAY IN THE STORY DIRECTLY THAT SHERLOCK NEVER LIKED HER ROMANTICALLY???
understand that unreliable narration exists but I truly don't think it's the case in this instance because it's quite clear from the text that he just genuinely respects her as a person rather than just being attracted to her.
It's personally really frustrating to me because l'm aroace, and while I think the idea of Sherlock and Watson being in love is great and I would love to see it in more adaptions, Sherlock was the first character I ever read about who made me feel seen in that regard. I was pretty young (about 10 I believe) when read the series for the first time and I became absolutely obsessed with it almost instantly, not just because l've always loved detective fiction and old books, but also because up until that point I had always felt like there was something wrong with me. I had never liked anyone romantically at all, not even a little crush on a fictional character or anything. It seemed like all my friends were always talking about crushes and stuff, and until I read Sherlock Holmes I had never read about anyone who specifically never likes anyone romantically either. I remember being absolutely thrilled because Sherlock Holmes was (and sort of still is) my idol, and if he also didn't have those feelings then maybe there wasn't anything wrong with me after all
This all sounds a bit dramatic I’m sure but this is just so, so important to me, thank you for your time

So, I've done a couple play-throughs of Baldur’s Gate 3 now, and I have some thoughts regarding companion romances; namely, Astarion and Gale. Warning, this will contain spoilers.
In my first game, I romanced Astarion (because obviously), and I loved the way they handled his traumas, his growth, and the nuances of his character. I could pen an essay, but I doubt there is anything I could say that hasn't been said already.
My second game, I decided to romance Gale. I won't lie, I mostly did it because thanks to the weird way he was bugged, I got a flag for his act 2 romance cut scene in my other game. Out of curiosity, I went through it, and it was honestly so sweet, and kind of sad. After that, I wanted to see how the rest of his romance played out.
And folks, I hate to say it (no I don't), I loved his romance more than Astarion’s. By the end of Astarion’s story, while wonderful, I didn't want to be with him, but just like, protect him and help him live his life and just learn how to be free. The revelation of his headstone, and his age of death. He was so young when he was murdered and turned, and it's so heartbreaking.
Also, the man literally says he really didn't like you at all at first. I mean, fair, but was that really the time to say "I thought you were a total loser, but ily now ❤." Kinda rude, Astarion.
And then there's Gale. The man who loved his Goddess so much, he tried to return a piece of magic to her he thought she had lost. Now don't get me wrong, he did it as much out of hubris as he did love, but in doing so, he wanted to earn a fraction of the love he felt for her in return.
This is a man who was sentenced to death by the woman he loved, as a means to an end that she and the other gods could achieve.
And what does this man do, when thinking about how he was close to the end?
He creates a sky full of stars, a pocket of something beautiful in a place that's cursed. And he tells you he loves you, laments about how he wishes he could do it properly. He gives you a glimpse of his life in Waterdeep, the place where he is happiest, because he wants to share that with you.
It is so wonderfully sweet, but it's also soured by the fact that he believes he has no choice but to carry out Mystra’s will. He believes he needs to be forgiven for his transgression against her, and that forgiveness will only be granted with his death.
Then we get the the start of act 3, and the circus. When you take Gale through the Dryad's test, the questions felt very shallow, especially when compared to the ones given with Astarion. What kind of food is Gale? Really? At least, until the very last question: what is Gale’s greatest flaw. One of the answers you can choose is "He thinks that he, and the world, might be better off if he were dead."
His response? He agrees... As someone who has struggled with mental health and similar thoughts, that one hit home. But then, in the next sentence, he shows that he has hope. Maybe it's not true. Maybe fate can be defied.
Moving on to later in act 3, there was the revelation of the Crown of Karsus, a relic from Karsus' attempt at achieving Godhood that survived. And Gale sees the possibilities that crown opens up. A chance to do what the other gods refused to do - what Mystra refused to do. He saw the chance to save Faerûn, to save his friends, and to save the person he loves (which again, Mystra refused to do, in his eyes), Ao be damned.
But, he also sees it as a way to finally be worthy. Worthy of the love he had been denied by Mystra, deserving of the love you have given him. After all, in the past, it was only ever because of his power that he was ever deemed worthy for anything, and what greater power is there than that of a god?
And that is HEARTBREAKING. The man only thought he was worth anything because of his power, because that had been the only thing people had really cared for about him. And when you tell this man you love him just for him, not because he's powerful or because he could he a god, but because he's a sweet man who loves books, who sometimes writes poetry, who loves curling up by the fire with his cat, a book and a glass of wine, he turns down that power. Show him care and love for who he is, and the man shines.
How could anyone NOT love Gale?
But yeah, Gale is 10/10. And Mystra sucks.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

🐅 + loras and/or the other tyrells!!
I think Loras is mostly sober and looks down on those who drink on the job, considering his attitude when he and Jaime are talking about members of the kingsguard. He only ever drinks a little bit of wine since he can only drink so much before getting drunk. I think he definitely glares at his fellow kingsguard members when they drink more than a glass and mocks them when they aren’t around.
He’s the gossiper of the kingsguard and can be quite lewd about it when he wants to. “They cut [Lucamore Strong’s] cock off. Shall I sing the song for you, my lord?” and “[Terrence Toyne] bedded the king’s mistress and died screaming. The lesson is, men who wear white breeches need to keep them tightly laced.” are the words of a master gossiper. Snarky icon.
I also think he’s a good singer and was trained in it alongside Margaery and his other siblings from a young age. He probably likes collecting songs as well and takes note of them when he hears them (see him knowing a song about Lucamore getting his dick chopped off). He and Renly likely got a lot of enjoyment from fun, bawdy songs.
Basically the conversation Loras and Jaime have about the kingsguard of the past are very revealing to his character I think. He’s one for gossip, enjoys lewd songs and possible artwork (Renly kept a collection of pornographic material) as well, and is extremely judgemental. Loras obviously spent a lot of time around Olenna and I feel like people often forget that he is as much Olenna’s grandson as Margaery is her granddaughter. It’s also the Hightower asshole genes coming out to play methinks.
He genuinely thinks highly of his siblings, in my opinion. Considering Loras is so quick to gossip yet only ever speaks highly of his siblings, even claiming Garlan is a better knight than Loras when according to George, Loras is one of the greatest active knights in Westeros, I think it really shows that he absolutely adores them.
About him being a Hightower, I like to believe he finds Hightower mythology interesting but at the same time I think he’d turn his nose up at it. He likes the concept but he feels like the potential of house Hightower isn’t being reached and it’s just kind of a pathetic display. His grandfather, Lord Hightower, likely tried to indoctrinate Alerie’s kids but it never ended up working out for whatever reason. I do think Loras would’ve been a cool ass battlemage type character if such a thing is possible with whatever secret magic the Hightowers have up their sleeves. He’s a battlemage at heart to me.
