Had a crazy weird dream that sorta combines old scrapped character concepts and put it in a marvel context. It was weird. But fun. I probably will use this as a future story concept cus it was interesting. Probably will be outside of a marvel context when I do develop it though. Anyhow I can’t get it out of my head so I’m gonna just. Post an organized post about it here.

I don’t remember the names (besides the dog) so I will be referring to the characters by their archetypes and powers.

We were 4 kids (it switched povs) and our parents. Gonna do a list of the characters and what they were like:

Dad

- Non super powered

- Forgot what he looked like

- Spy vibes. May have worked for shield.

- Met the mom during a mission I think??

- Friends with Marc Spector

Mom

- Dead

- Probably mutant in marvel context

- Don’t think it ever revealed her powers tho

- Don’t remember much about what she looked like besides that she was very pretty and had long fluffy/curly? Hair.

Super Speed Shark Boy

- Super speed

- Shark motif. Really liked sharks

- The youngest. Like. 12.

- Reminds me of my IRL little brother.

- Heavily autistic coded

Smart Psychic Kid

- Very Smart

- Psychic abilities

- Middle child energy

- 17 ish

- Also definitely neurodivergent

- Dark hair and square/rectangle glasses

Witch Girl

- Definitely a self insert I think

- I was in her pov for most of the dream and the similarities between us feels like a self insert at least but she was very interesting

- Witch powers

- Very pagan. Does practical magic stuff as well not just superpower magic. Tbh entire family has pagan energy.

- Main powers come from grimoire.

- Looks like younger me. Reddish brown hair. Bangs. Ponytail. Wavy but also straight. Bangs were straight rest of hair wavy.

- Got compared to the mom a lot

- Age was inconsistent. First it was like 12 then it was 16 then it was 19. I guess when I actually develop the story I’ll figure it out later.

Okay now that you know the characters onto the dream.

So we (the kids) were on the run from some bad guys? (Who it’s later revealed are connected to our moms family). Mom got killed trying to protect us.

It kinda time skipped to the funeral and this is when I was in witch girls pov. While the family was having dinner I was working on a protection spell thingy. Not related to my powers as much. It was practical magic. Like. Using a mortar and pestle for shit. One of the uncles (like. Great uncle. Not a sibling of the mother) caught me and tried to exorcise me and almost killed me (moms family very Christian. Like my real family. Woo religious trauma).

Grimm came in and mauled the uncle. And killed him. Rest of family figured out who we were. And started going after us. Grimm continued to protect witch girl. Super strength kid almost died protecting psychic kid. Super speed kid was fine. Nobody could catch him. He was taunting the villains basically.

The dad called Marc to come help us escape cus he was in the area (there was a museum nearby I think???). Battle was really long. The dad sacrificed himself so we could escape. No clue if he is still alive or not.

Marc fucking swooped in with a helicopter??? Steven insisted on basically adopting us. Picked us up. Marc couldn’t figure out what to do with us so he was like “okay fine they can come with”

Also Marc and Grimm do not like each other apparently. It was. Interesting.

Then my alarm went off and I woke up.

Anyhow yeah definitely interesting concept. Probably will develop it in the future without the marvel stuff.

Since I’m a busy music ed major I don’t have time to draw anymore. So if anyone wants to draw the characters hmu.

Anyhow yeah. That’s it. So glad I got to put it somewhere cus I can’t stop thinking about it it was so interesting.

Something not really relevant to the story: Is IF Undyne's hair real or is it a wig? Since half of her body melted I assume at least half her hair is fake.

Sorry if the question's sorta out of the blue, since in canon Undertale Undyne obviously shaves her head and the fandom always shows her with full head hair. (I still don't understand that sprite from Alphys date, like, from where did she pull that hair from?)

It's hair. Most of the facial damage was below the hairline, lucky for her. I think with canon Undyne she just....pulls her hair super far back? Tbh, the design inconsistencies are pretty wild, tho.

this got really long on accident so I’ll put it under the cut here

TLDR: technoblade is my favourite😌👍

I’ve been a huge technoblade enthusiast since he joined the server tbh😫 at first I didn’t really know him at all, but everyone had huge expectations for him and boy howdy did he live up to them!

he has such indisputable strength, but my favourite part is that he works so hard to get so strong. for example, the wither skull room. wither skulls have a 5.5% chance of dropping WITH a looting 3 sword, so yk my mans was in the nether for hours (more like days) on end to be able to cover that whole room. back when he used to stream, it was always so obvious to me the amount of time and research he’d put in to become stronger than everyone. I don’t remember exactly what he was saying, but once he was mining for gold and chat was yelling at him to use looting instead of silk touch and he was like “actually if you smelt the silk touch stuff it gives you more than looting” or something? could’ve been vice versa but he had actual math to back up his claim, whatever it was.

he doesn’t just put time in the game alone though, he also puts a lot of thought into his character and does his best to act in accordance to the character he’s created. hot take but ppl only think techno’s lore is bad bc his voice is mostly monotone, to me it seems he puts a lot of time and care into his lore without it having to be super elaborate. quackity started something amazing with his movie-style streams, but seeing technos most recent lore made me realize that I sorta miss when lore wasn’t so intensively planned out (all that said tho kudos to Q and the crazy amount of effort he puts into his lore)

furthermore, he’s always been very clear in his morals and stances. I mean not according to c!Tommy, but honestly I have issues with c!Tommy’s inconsistencies and I’m probably gonna be the only one to say that. dating back to the pogtopia days, he made it very clear that he hated governments and people in power. time and time again everyone acts surprised when he blows up nations, like what did you expect? ofc you don’t have to have super defined morals to be a good character, but as someone who had no clue who techno was, I appreciated the clear message as to who his character is. I found it very easy to see why techno takes the steps he does.

I also think he’s super sweet and kind-hearted when you give him the time of day (point in case: ranboo), more ppl should give the poor blood god a chance🤕🙏

Every major has a niche; styling/PR are deffo the most expensively-dressed, most styling majors I know build off of their own igs so they’re always super up there. Design majors tend to stick to more thrifted/vintage/niche pieces, loads of them (and me lmao) are whores for archive pieces over the newest collections. The Chinese international students are always logo’d up HAHAHAHA AS USUAL or in all black rick/yohji it’s like one or the other. But as a whole I think we try to scavenge for unique pieces, bcos it’s easy to make designer look good, but it’s harder to style something cheap and thrifted to look expensive ya know? Always have a mix! That’s the formula hehe

If I’m given a super high budget, I’m assuming I can’t say a flat right lMAOOOOO, in terms of designer goods probably timeless pieces? Something I can get the most wear out of, or some obnoxious accessories/bag/clothing that I can’t justify the price of otherwise bc I’d probs wear it like once.

Everyone’s happy to splurge on different things, if you think you’re gonna get a lot of wear outta the Cartier Love bracelet, get it! It’s timeless and simple enough for everyday wear, so if that’s something you’re interested in dropping a bag on, go for it!

My view is that we’re all allowed our Thing we wanna splurge on, sometimes it’s a bag, sometimes it’s jewelry, if you’re able to save up for something like that that you’d really love to have then I don’t see why not. clarification on that bit on gender and contemplations on other stuff

If anyone actually bothers to read this lmao

Dialga: This question was pretty much inevitable.

Palkia: I’m honestly fine with being referred to as an “it”.

Giratina: Why the hell should we worry about “it” being “dehumanizing” when we’re not human to begin with?

Something that I knew would eventually get brought up is the genders of my interpretation of the trio. The simple answer is encapsulated in the prev post: they’re dragon gods. Gender is a societal construct; sex is for reproduction. Legendary entities that represent the fundamental laws of the universe don’t really have a need for either society or reproduction. So as with the games, they’re all officially non-binary/genderless.

That said, my designs gravitate towards one or the other. One reason is that i’m not creative, bold, inspired, or talented enough to really translate that genderless attribute into humanoid form. Another is that someone pointed out to me a while ago that Palkia has a low waist-hip ratio, stiletto clawed feet, and some designs will feature a more prominent chest. That and the gendered color-coding Pokemon started doing with blue males and red/pink females, like with the menu screens starting from Gen III, the Eon Duo, Jellicent in Gen V, and Team Skull Grunts in Gen VII.

That said, I’m not a huge fan of these reasons, as you could also make the counterargument that Palkia looks somewhat phallic. So I kinda wanna get into an Extended Rant™ on why I choose to depict my OCs the way, even though no one probably cares lmao

It starts out with the Kanji/Hanzi for “Universe”: 宇宙, Uchū in Japanese and Yǔzhòu in Chinese. You might recall it if you’ve read Pokemon Adventures.

You might also remember if you visited that one dude on Route 228 in Diamond and Pearl who gets yeeted out of his house by Cyrus’s contrite grandfather by the time Platinum rolls around. Okay, realistically, barely anyone probably does (that guy wasn’t that memorable), but he basically says the same thing as Cyrus in the panels above: 宇宙, coined by the ancient Taoists, esoterically means something like “the totality of extension” + “the totality of duration”. In other words, the ancient Japanese/Chinese word for “universe” is lit. “space” + “time”. This is actually a somewhat obscure, unnecessary detail that even many native speakers seem to be unaware of. It also ties in heavily with the Yin-Yang 陰陽 of Taoism.

I know Taoism is more a Gen V theme, but it’s a concept implicit throughout the franchise, hence games generally come in twos, sharing complementary/opposing or dualistic/dichotomic themes. Even trios tend to have the third member as the odd one out or mediator. There’s much more to the Yin-Yang than just Truth/Ideals and I sorta wish Game Freak would explore it more to really unite the franchise as a whole around the interconnected theme of both diversity and harmony.

The Yin-Yang isn’t strictly about Truth/Ideals as much as it is about the fundamentally dualistic nature of existence and the oneness implicit in the inseparability of coexisting complementary concepts. Thus, truth and ideals are two sides of the same coin, as are time and space as relativity revealed. The Yin-Yang is vague enough to basically be an umbrella representation term for any complementary duality. It should be noted that the feminine Yin and masculine Yang don’t refer to stereotypical/conventional notions of femininity or masculinity, but rather requires an abstract interpretation.

The Yin-Yang is composed of an active component, and a passive/reflective/receptive one. More easily understood in that one aspect creates the body and the other gives it life. One which shapes/nurtures/mothers being and one which animates/directs/fathers it. Abstract interpretations of the feminine Mother and masculine Father follow suit. As do dualistic concepts like particle and wave, existence and essence, ovum and sperm, object/entity and idea/concept, magnitude and direction, defense and offense, nature/tradition and technology/advancement (Gen I & Gen II), space and time (Gen IV), truth and ideals (Gen V), night/moon and day/sun (Gen VII), and shields and swords i guess (Gen VIII).

I excluded Gen III because among the classical elements, earth and water are both traditionally considered reflective/feminine, with fire and air being active/masculine, but i suppose if you factor in Primal Reversion in Gen VI, it works. With the Aura Trio, I read something unrelated but interesting about how apparently Ohmori Shigeru hinted at parallels between the Weather Trio and Aura Trio. Can’t find the source though. Blue - Seas were the first (Alpha) source of Life; Red - fiery, desolate Lands signify the Death of all in the end (Omega); Green - Order/Balance mediates between two forces of nature that can be malevolent/chaotic left unchecked, with the trio master possessing abilities that cancel out the other two.

Going off the rails a bit more, speaking of color-parallels, there’s probably going to be one of the subtractive colors between Gen VIII and the (highly probable) Gen IV remakes this generation, with Cyan - Dialga, Azelf, Lucas’ accents, Za-cian; Magenta - Palkia, Mesprit, Dawn’s accents, Za-mazenta; Yellow - Giratina, Uxie, Barry’s accents, whoever the third member of the Gen VIII mascot/box art legendary trio is going to be. I wonder how they’re going to incorporate the parallels tho

Anyway I digress. The ancient Daoists associated feminine Yin with 宇/Space and masculine Yang with 宙/Time by virtue of insisting the feminine aspect precedes, but even disregarding that, Space fits in with the Yin criteria of that which represents the body and Time fits in with the Yang criteria of that which initiates life.

So while they’re genderless, Dialga represents the concept of masculinity and Palkia femininity in their most pure, abstract, and universal form according to the Dao. While this doesn’t make Dialga a dudebro and Palkia whatever the hell the feminine equivalent is, in my mind, Palkia has a strong maternal instinct and Dialga is very much a dad. Giratina is weird chaotic goth aunt/uncle who gives u ur first taste of alcohol just to spite grandpa and reads fanfiction with candles and a glass of wine like it’s a fucking literary hour.

That’s my logic and explanation behind it anyhow. The distinction goes something like Palkia will concern itself more with the state or properties of something (who, what, where) whereas Dialga will concern itself more with the role or activity of it (when, why, how). As time and space are, however, they’re deeply intertwined and cannot be separated.

I might move this bit to a separate post somewhere down the line since this has already dragged on long enough, but I’ll share some thoughts on Giratina here and tie it in with the overarching topic of assigning gender roles lol. According to Game Freak, Giratina represents antimatter, but there are some inconsistencies. I know this shit has to be taken with a grain of salt because of Pokemon logic/science and whatever, but I gave it some thought regardless. My personal headcanon is that Altered Giratina represents dark matter/energy and Origin Giratina represents antimatter. Whatever tf Gira represents in Pokemon lore is based on a combination of the two, with the Reverse/Distortion World probably alluding to the idea of an anti-universe. Antimatter and dark matter are not really the same thing, but they’re both trippy cosmic constructs that sound somewhat similar, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . I wanted to make a distinction because while antimatter doesn’t distort spacetime any more than normal matter, it’s speculated that dark matter (actually dark energy) does, and is responsible for the rapid expansion of the universe.

This would also go along nicely with Gira complementing the the Spacetime twins while also complementing Arceus. It would also fit as justification for Giratina having to switch from Origin to Altered Forme upon entering the universe presided over by Dialga and Palkia, not because of the shift in spacetime stability, but rather due to the violent, annihilating reaction that occurs when matter and antimatter come into contact with one another. It’s by no means a perfect resolution hc, but it is one that I’ve gotten attached to.

Anyhoo, I designed Giratina to appear more androgynous (or at least attempted to). However, going by that masculine active/feminine reflective duality highlighted in the Yin-Yang, Origin Gira, with antimatter a reflection of normal matter, appears a bit more feminine-androgynous, whereas Altered Gira, with dark matter an active driving force for the expansion of the universe, appears a bit more masculine-androgynous (though iirc it hasn’t shown up yet and i’m not too great with consistency regardless). That was my idea behind it in any case. Origin Gira wears a binder under that big dastardly overcoat. i guess it’s technically genderfluid.

Digressing a bit, but another artistic choice was the skin tone of the trio. 0 points for subtlety on my part, but the color is Cosmic Latte, the average color of the universe. Like that bit on gender, I wanted to base it on some aspect of reality. I juggled between that and pure black with stars for freckles, but in the end i’m a lazy piece of shit who cuts corners for a living, so i settled on Primordial Clam Chowder because it was easier lmao. that’s why they pasty af

Maia and Jordan keep being the best part of the episode for me tbh. She breaks my heart :( How she screamed at the end, how angry she got at Jordan’s ABSOLUTELY OBVIOUS attempts to win her back, because he’s still a sore spot for her, and she hasn’t found a way to shake him :((( And I love how her relationship with Simon wasn’t enough to make her stay, that she needed to take a break from everything. My bby.

I’m glad the Magnus -> Alec -> Jace conflict seems to have (somewhat) revived the show and the fandom but I’m too detached from it now to even appreciate its narrative ~pull :/ I don’t even get annoyed at fandom for its perpetual denial anymore lol, I just find it tiring. Yes, Alec would choose Jace over Magnus, every single time, just like he did this episode and he’ll do the next (and the next, and the next, and the next). No, it’s not OoC, or bad and inconsistent writing, since it’s happened 4435 times before. No, it’s not racist to point it out, because it’s CANON, and it’s a fact. No, you don’t have to like it. I don’t like it, because I no longer care about Alec’s inner life; when I did, this conflict was interesting, if painful, as someone that liked Magnus too.

I like Jia Penhallow, because a) she’s Aline’s mother, and I want Aline back; and b) because of how she handled every pity attempt of manipulation from Clary this episode lol. Like when she said that the wish was “a curse” or when she tried to pull the “if it was Aline you would’ve done the same” card. The Clave as a system is still the worst fucking thing tho, lol.

I miss Raphael so much. Mostly because I miss RAPHAEL, duh, but also because, without him, Izzy’s plot is fucking dead. She has NOTHING to do lately, besides being everyone and their mothers’ cheerleader ¬¬

I’ve been thinking how it’s possible that Magnus stays trapped in Edom until 3B, in order to exploit that plot? Though it might be only wishful thinking lol. In any case, I’m looking forward to Asmodeous, and his more than likely digs at the Shadowhunters and Magnus unbalanced relationship with them (even if that won’t change anything on the long term ¬¬).

Yeah, that makes sense. She is driven by guilt for her part, however small it was compared to Valkorion’s, in what happened to her children. I like her quite a lot, but she still stepped aside. I think she was hurting and in an impossible situation, but she still did it.

I loved the fact that the very moment she knew exactly what was happening she ran off to a world where she’d be in constant pain in order to free her daughter, and the trailer with her saying she won’t leave her children to the dark. I just wish we could have gotten more of that Senya.

hmmm I reread like half of Graceling, and it’s as good as ever and I’m still bitter that Kristen Cashore hasn’t written anything since the series. it’s YA but also Monster novel TM and so thought provoking

A Hero At The End of the World. I agree with most of the review about it-- it’s very evident the author comes from a fanfic background bc writing fic is very different from novels and there’s some things that don’t translate (character development? relationship development?) if you read the book with the knowledge that its essentially drarry fanfic it makes sense, as its own novel there’s a lot rushed

HOWLS MOVING CASTLE

i luv the movie ofc, it’s gorgoeus in all ways and delightful but not gonna lie the story telling is not very good and it sorta makes no sense until u read the book. don’t like the witch of the waste plot and howl becomes much too mysterious wizard for my tastes

SOPHIE AND HOWL ARE THE DELIGHT OF THIS BOOK, their characters are what makes it tbh, Book Howl is the best howl bc he’s ridiculous and hilarious and a coward and i luv it. sophie is less of a mouse (even tho she still thinks she is ahaha) and the part where she’s so pissed off she turns water into weedkiller is my fav. it’s also just a complete subversion fo fantasy which i think miyazaki sorta doesn’t get

so the lovely @samby-chan tagged me in this naruto challenge thing and I figured I might as well do it because this is kind of? sorta? a naruto blog?

Name your Favourite Female Character(s): temari + the konoha girls basically Male Character(s): gee I wonder who that might be... Team: sand fam Sensei: Kakashi and Iruka..I like the concept of kurenai but they never really gave us more than that. Hokage: I liked tsunade tbh. Kage: the mizukage lady who can literally spit lava and acid. Village: sand fam’s sand clan Akatsuki: konan and kisame (plus kakuzu and hidan I guess but I like the more as a team than as individual characters) Jutsu: everything konan does basically Episode/Chapters: the very start of the whole gaara gets kidnapped arc if only because those are the only chapters of the manga I actually own. Fight Scene: the hidan & kakuzu fight + all the sasuke retrieval arc fights. Fanfiction: that one author on fanfiction.net who wrote really good kank fics...the one I remember the most was about rasa having sent kank on secret s-ranked missions because he refused to assassinate gaara... I still think about it from time to time. Story Arc: the chunin exam and sasuke retrieval arc will always be classic, tho I do remember really liking the pain’s assault arc because it felt like the first big victory in naruto’s story arc. Filler: I’ve only seen the fillers where the sand sibs appear + the one where they dedicated an entire episode to making fun of gai’s small dick. OTP (explain why): I feel like I give the wrong impression here but I’m honestly not really a shipper. like I guess I could call shikatema my otp if only because they’re the couple I’m the most ok with. NOTP (be nice): the only ones I can think of is the kind of shit that pretty much no one wants to see (oronaru and such....) Crackship(s): gaara x funk BROTP: after the last anime episodes? kank and lee tbh, tho I’m always here for all the konoha girls (+temari) just being one big girl gang (hey kishi doesnt care about them so they gotta care for each other) OT3: nah Crossover Ship: nah Do you have any headcanons: you can’t just ask me that and expect me to sum up 7 years worth of headcanons in one paragraph.

Are you happy with the ending? What would you have done differently? sort of? I feel like what we did see wasn’t exactly bad, but there were a lot of other things they could have focused on that would have been way more interesting. personally I would have preferred it ending with naruto becoming hokage, entering his office and immediately realizing that he can’t do the job cause he never learned how to use a computer.

How do you feel about the new generation? eh, other than the great injustice that is sakura’s entire life I don’t have anything against it, but there isn’t really anything about it that I like enough to bother paying attention.

Say something about your favourite character. Good and bad: like 90% of the text posts on this blog are already me talking about kankuro so I’ll keep it short: I like that he somehow manages to be weird and different in a cast full of characters who can spit fire and summon giant slugs. everytime he’s appeared we’ve learned something new about him and tho its always unexpected it never seems too ooc.

What makes you mad about the series? even though naruto will always have a special place in my heart its far from flawless. there’s some pretty bad writing and inconsistencies that can be...pretty annoying. I guess my main beef with naruto is the treatment of the female characters. I’m happy that naruto isn’t as fanservice-y as a lot of anime can be, but that doesn’t change the fact that few of the female characters have more than 2-3 personality traits. what bugs me the most tho is kishimoto’s utter inability to involve the female characters in the plot and actually make them seem powerful and useful. yes he tried to push that angle with sakura towards the end of the war, but it kinda fell flat because there was almost no build up and in the end the pay off was that she....still seemed weaker than naruto. speaking of the war, I spent the last 100 chapters or so watching tenten hang around and waiting for her to be useful only to get...what? she stole some weapons after the fighting was over? thats it? yes those are only two examples, but honestly I can think of very few fights with a female shinobi that didn’t end with a) the female shinobi losing/being absolutely useless b) the female shinobi getting help or her victory being downplayed c) her straight up dying. also I guess the gender ratio in the naruto world is like 70-30 because apparently there are so few girls around that they’re limited to only one girl per team.

If you could see anything happen in the series, what would it be? way more sand siblings, obviously. tho specifically I’d like for them to have more positive interactions with temari, kishi is really fond of the bossy girl trope.

What would you say to Kishimoto if given the chance? why.
