i have two roleplay ideas that i can't take out of my mind and i don't have anybody to rp about it

the first one would be a canon x canon rp about vergil and the red woman from fortuna (i decided to call her rory). the roleplay could be a about how vergil and rory meet, and their love history. maybe they could be secret lovers, idk 👀

the second idea is about an oc x canon roleplay. idk why, but i really want to rp about my oc fighting vergil and hating each other, but soon they start having feelings for each other. just a normal enemies to lovers rp

i think before joining or making a minecraft roleplay server every creator needs to either have played at least ONE campagin of a ttrpg of their choice (doesnt have to be dnd) or they must have spent their entire childhood roleplaying with people on any social media/forum/chat app their tiny hands could get a hold on. i want these minecraft roleplayers to have backgrounds in doing roleplay with actions written out *like this* in their friends text messages and getting into insane drama as teenagers in discord roleplay servers

I am a literate roleplayer. My replies vary but will always be multi-paragraph. The fact that I went into that first conversation with Gortash completely blind and he somehow managed to be the one that almost convinced me to side with him is just wild to me. Gwydion had been incredibly resistant to anyone (even his partner) trying to get him to be just a little power-hungry, but then Gortash came along and started talk about unity and stability instead of "we're gonna be evil and rule the world" and it was working on Gwydion.

My only thought during the coronation scene was "damn, he really does know Gwydion"

#don't get me wrong i think gortash wpuld have definitely leaned into the 'let's be evil and rule together as evil overlords' thing if he'd #thought it would work #but the conversation had a definite 'oh yes let's be partners again and work to preserve the city and save it from itself' bent #and the fact that he was so sincere about legitimately wanting to be equals with gwydion again #I dunno #all of that really culminated in Gwydion not knowing what to do for the first time that playthrough #when I say he has a very strong personality I mean it. Most 'moral dilemmas' in the game weren't really dilemmas for him #perks of being a paladin #but then Gortash came along and confused all of that for him #I only really found out about their working relationship during that conversation bc I missed a bunch of stuff #so my surprise was genuine when Gortash started displaying fairly intimate knowledge of how Gwy works #I had Gwydion wear Gortash's gauntlet for a bit for roleplay reasons #he didn't remember the man but something in him hurt when that final blow was struck and he wasn't quite ready to move on yet #the dark urge #enver gortash #what's even more wild is i was headcanoning that his paladin oath (devotion) had been sworn to someone other than bhaal before #orin happened #and i could see a pre-tadpole Gwy deciding Gortash was a good person to swear that to so when Gortash #when Gortash started talking about swearing oaths to each other??#wild #absolutely wild #i did not get enough sleep and it shows #12:43 #bg3

#actually looking back through my ao3 my real dissatisfaction with my writing really only started in 2021 #after a couple of years of almost exclusively co-writing #i always attributed the decline in quality to 2018 when i was so burnt out i lost significant ability to perform IADLs #but it was definitely c. late 2021 and early 2022 #when i could sense the decline in my writing skill and enjoyment and so took multiple breaks from co-writing to write solo again #it's weird i co-wrote (and did written roleplays) SO MUCH as a teenager and in my early 20s #and never developed this massive block when i wrote solo back then #maybe it was partially the pandemic #i know my inability to go out in the world has significantly impacted my connection to like... reality and The Real World and Society #i don't talk to people anymore -- everyone's schedules got so messed up that even my friends who i spoke to regularly #when Work Hours were a thing for me all faded a lot #like we're still friends but i don't speak to anyone but my partner regularly #it's so lonely?#anyway i think i made the right choice when i started exclusively writing solo again but i sure miss the excitement and drive of co-writing #idk maybe i just need a boost #mutuals who want to co-write a SDT fic with me hit me up #seriously #disability #liminal scrawlings

Roleplay Is Not Dead Nor Doth It Sleep

There's a post going around about how text-based, freeform roleplay is dead, and I was typing up a huge response to this, with an accompanying guide on how to find roleplayer in 2024, when I realized it might have a bigger reach if I made it its own post. So here's that guide.

I hesitate to say that there isn't a problem with the new format of social media making roleplay more difficult to find, but in the desire to make that point, the OP of the original post has left people with the idea that there's no way for them to get into freeform text roleplay in 2024. Which just isn't true! Here, look at all the ways.

Forums

The link to RPG-Directory to find roleplaying forums is a good start. Once you've found a forum RPG, even if you don't join, there's usually an 'advertising' section on that forum where other forum RPGs post their ads - this may help you to find forums that don't advertise on RPG-D.

Another really good forum to find roleplay on is Barbermonger. Barbermonger is focused on connecting people for one-on-one roleplays.

This last one's going to be weird, but it turns out that there are still people seeking roleplay on the Gaia Online forums after all these years. I think this is delightfully retro and then crowd there seems a little older than average. No pre-existing knowledge of Gaia required.

Tumblr

You can also find forum roleplay groups (as well as tumblr and Discord groups) right here on Tumblr. Usually, the thing to do is to use the search function - search for "[genre] rp" or "[fandom] rp" and sort by "latest." (If you sort by Top, you are likely to find dead RPs.) For example, here's fantasy rp, historical rp, and marvel rp. You can also try jcink rp, as most roleplay forums are hosted on Jcink these days, or discord rp, depending on your favored platform.

There are also tumblr blogs specifically dedicated to advertising roleplays. I'm not super familiar with these nowadays, but just in the process of searching those tags above, I found these:

Reddit is a good place to find Discord roleplays. It's a little heavier on smut-only roleplays than other platforms mentioned here, but it's not impossible to find sexless, plot-based roleplay here either. Most ads are for one on one RP, but you can find groups mixed in here too. The big subreddits for text-based freeform RP seem to be:

The original post specifically mentions that 'all the old "omegle but for role play" type websites died out ages ago'. This is mostly true, but not quite! There's still Rolechat. It's a little janky, but what it needs more than anything is a bigger user base. Their Discord server is also a good place to find one on one discord roleplay. It is, of course, free, but if you want to support its development, they have a patreon.

i think a major thing in regards to kink and racial aspects and dynamics is the fact that white people particularly are used to their every desire and comfort and pleasure being prioritised whether they are consciously aware of it or not.... like unfortunately the situation is that most of them believe that kink exists in some sort of bubble.

for example many would not think twice about the implications of wanting to have "taking bbc" be a necessary part of their personal humiliation or transformation or degradation kink. they already live under conditions where they have to put in active effort to be anti-racist. so ofc it never occurs to them that perhaps maybe we are asking them to think critically about the origins of their kinks and why the dynamic might be dubious if not outright racist.

to them its a matter of kink shaming because white pleasure and white comfort comes before respecting black people as humans. this is the way society has functioned for centuries. so of course why would they ever think that there might be more behind the fact that they enjoy raceplay fantasies? because to them its just that, a fantasy. they have never had to question why or how that came be.

Seriously, i implore you to all really really think critically about the way you think about black people sexually, how you want to treat your black partners, and if that may have implications or backgrounds to it that you don't recognize. you need to understand that there are very real reasons behind the fact that we want you to question why it sexually pleasures you to have racial power over us. its not at all the same as for example someone thinking its immoral or repulsive to enjoy kinky sex. we are literally just wanting you to recognise that our people have a history of sexual abuse tied with our history of racial abuse.

like if you have a kinky dynamic with a black partner, are you taking care to consider the implications of why they might not be okay *at all* with being referred to as your slave sexually regardless of the way you intend it? or being whipped? For reasons outside of the fact it doesn't turn us on, but rather that its something that for us, for our people, are things that were used to abuse us?

are you taking care to educate yourself about the history of sexual abuse in racism and slavery? do you actually know that cuckolding has racist roots? have you researched that? do you know how our people were and have been exploited and abused sexually throughout history not just with slavery but minstrely and so on? Did you ever take pause to think about the history that may lie behind raceplay and how maybe, just maybe; that us finding an issue with that kink is not us shaming anyone or trying to suppress anyone's sexuality?

learn to understand *why* we have every right to not feel okay with the fact people get off to the racial abuse and exploitation and dehumanizing of us, regardless of if its just "fantasy" or "roleplay". think about why your first reaction is to claim that your sexual freedom is being stifled, why you think your right to pleasure comes before our right to NOT be treated like this and to NOT view you as a safe person to be around for openly and proudly getting off to it.
