Baker Steve/Rock Star Eddie wrong number AU
Part One
Part Two
PART THREE
"It's like a TV show, but on YouTube."
"Right," Steve answers, half listening to Dustin's explanation, "so it, like what, has an air time, or whatever?"
"Yeah, like a series."
"And it's just, what, famous people playing dipshits and dickheads?"
"Steeeeeeeeeeeevvvvveeeeeeeeeeee why are you like this?"
"Dunno," Steve shrugs, trying to read a recipe online. Unfortunately that's resulted in his having to scroll past someones entire fucking life story and he's ready to give up and try and work out the dumb Oreo cake recipe himself, "just lucky, I guess."
Dustin drops his head on the kitchen counter like Steve is the greatest difficulty he's ever going to face.
"So why do you need to be here to watch this?"
"Because we all want to watch it together, the guests are Corroded Coffin, they all like, play, the whole band, it's so cool-"
"Corroded Coffin? Playing your nerd game?" Steve's interest leaks through before he can stop it, "I mean, like, I think I've heard of them?" The last thing he needs is the kids finding out he's been kind of friends kind of flirting kind of maybe wants to date the actual Eddie Munson.
Dustin looks at him skeptically, "yeah...so you-"
"You can all watch it here, it's fine...I'll make cookies."
Dustin's completely distracted by his own success, instantly whipping out his phone to inform the other kids. Steve's pretty sure their group chat is called 'No Steve's allowed' but he hasn't actually found out for sure yet.
Steve does bake cookies. All the kids are gathered around his smart TV, absolutely demolishing them while they wait for this thing to start. It's like, an actual channel, with intros and graphics and stuff, a logo that reads 'Final Roll.'
And there's Eddie and the band, sitting around a table with two dudes who must run the channel. They all have the bits of paper and dice and little figures that Steve's used to seeing when the kids commandeer his dining room table.
There's preemptive ramble, and Steve leans forward a little every time Eddie's in shot. He's relieved all the kids are all sitting in front of him and all glued to the TV, so he can ogle in peace. They do introductions, and then everyone introduces their characters.
"May I introduce Sir Steven, the half elf paladin," behind Eddie Gareth rolls his eyes so hard his whole fucking body moves. Steve can see him and Geoff mouthing something to each other. Steve can only assume it's because Eddie has named his character, presumably, after him, "he has a sworn oath to always protect those weaker than himself."
Steve's heart fucking melts.
Steve's phone is buzzing. He's prepared. He knows Eddie's back in the country, they've been talking for months. Steve's kind of done waiting, and he's ready to press his advantage. He's had this set up for a little while, just waiting for the right moment. He presses play, and then answers the phone.
"Hey Stevie how-...are you listening to Corroded Coffin?"
"Yeah, yeah," Steve turns it down, bomb dropped, trap sprung, advantage played, "the kids absolutely love them, they're trying to get me into them even though they're not exactly my thing."
"Right, ah, right, what do you, uhm, think?"
"Yeah. Still not my thing-"
"Oh."
"But I really like it when the lead guy sings."
"...yeah?"
"Yeah, not the like, shouty growly singing, I can't understand a fucking thing he's saying-" Eddie chuckles, "but like, the parts where he properly sings. I think he has a beautiful voice."
"I ah, well, I mean, I bet the, uhm, shouty bits are hard work, you know. I expect that takes a lot of, you know, practice. Hell on the throat. I imagine, I would guess anyway, I don't actually, like know-"
"No no, yeah, well, maybe he should just sing more then, save those vocal chords, or whatever. I'd like that a lot."
"Yeah?" Steve can practically hear Eddie blushing down the phone. Eddie's so cute when he goes shy.
"Yeah." There's a long beat of silence before Steve goes in for the kill, "the kids are trying to get me to go see them. They're in the states now, apparently. Will be playing a gig in Indie."
"Yeah they are- I mean, I assume they are, most bands, uhm, yeah-" And Steve is hardly holding it together, Eddie is such a bad liar, and he's trying so hard not to lie at all. Steve doesn't know how he;s keeping his tone normal and not letting the whole ass cat out of the bag.
"And the kids are absolutely itching to go, you know? But tickets man, they're all doing every chore they can find to get some extra cash, but tickets are pricey, and for eight of us? Because I'll need someone else to help me chaperone and, you know..."
"I. I might...know a guy. Maybe. Like, because of the band I might...know someone who can get you tickets."
"Seriously? Eddie that would be incredible, the kids will absolutely loose their shit."
"Yeah, ah, is your work email cool?"
"Yeah, yeah, of course of course, man, the kids are going to love you for like, forever."
And maybe I will too, Steve just about manages to keep the words inside.

I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend (e.o)
GirlxGirl
LizziexFem Reader
Honestly I'm drunk and Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne came on and so I've wrote this lmao enjoy (I will be writing it sober but just putting the idea down now or I'll forget)
Y/ns POV:
Why does she need to look so fucking perfectly perfect I groan to myself as I fake a smile to my best friends, friend Elizabeth I've met her multiple times we've hung out in a group multiple times and we always catch eyes I've spoke to her many of times alone but it's so hard to control myself around her I don't know why I'm so madly inlove with this woman yet she only sees me as a friend of a friend but fuck I love listening to her talking and her laughing smile can turn my worst days to amazing days and her eyes I've found myself lost in them many times and don't get me started with the little touches and flirting here and there purely innocent on her end she's just started seeing someone she has a second date with her in a few days "y/n yoo y/n" my best friend Stella snaps in my face with a giggle bringing me out of my thoughts "welcome back y/n where did you go" lizzie says softly as she gently rubs my arm making me blush "oh uh just lost in thought haha anyone want a drink?" I say standing up as I walk away without actually seeing if anyone wants a drink "yeah can I have a double vodka with sprite please" I say ordering a drink and boy do I need it
"dude what is wrong with you, you where spaced out the entire conversation lizzie was telling us about the girl she has a second date with and you wernt listening " I rub my temples and turn to Stella placing my hands on her shoulders "you know I love you right but please drop it im fine I zoned out and I don't wanna hear about how excited she is for her date with Little Miss Perfect" I say with a sigh as jealousy comes out "here you go ma'am " I turn and take my drink smiling as I turn back to Stella "you like her don't you" I roll my eyes and drink some of my drink "just drop it please I need to go get ready to go on stage the band should be ready ill see you in a bit" I down the rest of my drink and walk past lizzie towards the stage without making eye contact I quickly jump on the stage and hug my band mates I walk towards Jules who smirks pulling me into a hug hands resting on my lower back giving the full bar view she whispers in my ear not breaking the hug "so blondy over there is that who the songs about are you still doing it " I pull away and look at her with a nod I walk towards the mic and pull it to my lips "mic check one two one two, how's everyone doing tonight I hope youre all excited to see us perform because we are super excited to be here as always thank you to the owner and our dear friend Jacob" I smile as everyone starts cheering and screaming I turn to look at my band and nod as they start to play the tune I smirk getting ready to jump around and sing my heart out giving it all my energy "hey hey you you I don't like your girlfriend no way no way I think you need a new one" I scream while jumping around having a ball making direct eye contact with lizzie I point to her slightly as I continue to jump around singing all of us giving it our all " hey hey you you I want to be your girlfriend "
we continue singing until the song ends as everyone starts screaming and cheering making me smile brightly we perform another 3 songs before I bid my goodnights to the people I jump off stage and smile an appreciated smile as Stella hands me a drink I sit and drink it as I wipe the sweat from my face by lifting my top I take a second to get my breath back before looking at lizzie and Stella lizzies eyes glued to my toned stomach "thanks for supporting me as always such an amazing bestie I love you" I say standing up walking behind Stella wrapping my arms around her in a tight hug kissing her cheek gently "I'm gonna head home though because I need to shower and well you know" I whisper the last part as she squeezes my arms letting me know she understands I quickly stand up straight and look at lizzie with a slight smile "thank you for coming have a great night" I turn walking out of the club as I get my car keys from my pocket unlocking it I climb in and sigh leaning my head against the steering wheel after a few minutes I hear soft knocks on my window I look up to see lizzie and smile as I open my door "hey are you ok" I ask as she moves closer to me "yeah so Stella's boyfriend turned up and they where eating eachothers faces and she's my ride home I was wondering if you could take me home" I can't say no to that face as much as I can't spend time with her I'd never leave her here I need to make sure she's safe "yeah sure of course jump in" she smiles and jumps up and down placing a kiss on my cheek as she runs around to the other side hoping in the car "thank you" I nod not really saying anything as I start the car and head towards lizzies house she lives 50 minutes from here so this is gonna be an agonising ride "that first song you sang it was great about anyone in particular?" She randomly says 10 minutes into the drive "yeah but she's seeing someone so it honestly doesn't matter"
I say a little coldly "is it about stella" she says a hint of sadness in her voice I shake my head and laugh "oh god no I love her she's my best friend but I'm not inlove with her and I certainly don't want to be her girlfriend " after a few seconds of silence she whispers "good" i pull over to a more private place and look over to her "oh my god youre going to murder me arnt you" I let out a laugh and look at her longingly "no lizzie I'm not going to murder you I'd never hurt you, but" i take a deep breath and ready myself gripping the wheel a little "youre an amazing girl but I think we should hang out with Stella separately being around you is becoming incredibly hard and tonight sitting listening to you talking about this amazing girl youre so excited to see again crushed me and I can't sit and pretend it doesn't when we all hang out but as time goes on it's gonna get worse and become harder and I know its so selfish of me but I think it's best" I say with sadness I look down and whisper after a few minutes of silence "say something "she clears her throat and looks at me "just take me home please" I sigh and start to drive towards her house once again she doesn't say a word the entire way to her house after 40 minutes I pull up to her house and park the car "there you go" she turns and looks at me like she's studying me and before I know it she grabs me by the collar of my shirt crashing her lips to mine in a heated passionate kiss after a few seconds I pull away completely confused "wh.." she smirks and interruptes me "there is no other girl, I like you and I wanted to pretend I had this amazing date coming up it was stupid but fuck I like you" before she can say anything I kiss her passionately, once air becomes and issue she pulls away leaning her head against mine "take me to bed" she whispers I instantly jump out the car and run around to open her door both of us giggling as she jumps into my arms
"You look so fucking sexy" she says biting her lip as she looks down at my naked exposed body I honestly wasn't expecting her to be a top but fuck me she's hot, I can't help but blush looking at her with lust in my eyes "please fuck me mommy" I instantly freeze slapping my hands over my mouth my eyes almost bulging out as I realise what i said "fuck say it again" she groans as she sits between my legs rubbing my thighs sending tingles all over my body "please...fuck me..mommy" I breath out a moan as her thumb gently rubs my clit adding a little pleasure making me buck my hips to gain more friction "please don't tease baby" I moan as she smirks "so fucking wet for me kitten and that's not my name" she slides her fingers down to my entrance teasing me "I'm sorry mommy but please don't tease me I need you fuck I need yo..." before I could finish she sunk 2 fingers deep inside me causing me to gasp and moan as the pleasure runs through my veins "mhhh fuck just like that mommy" she thrusts her fingers faster as she leans down taking my left nipple into her mouth as my hand instinctively grabs her hair causing her to moan "you like that kitten" she groans against my nipple as her fingers curl hitting my gspot "fuckkkkkkk do...don't stop pl..please mommy" I scream as she continues to hit my gspot over and over I feel my legs start to shake uncontrollably as the knot in my stomach snaps and my orgasm washes over me lizzie slows her thrusts to let me ride out my orgasm as my legs continue to shake and my cum coats her fingers and hands "oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck" I whimper pulling her down ontop of me as she slides her fingers out and smirks bringing them to my lips "suck princess"
I moan and do as I'm told and suck her fingers swirling my tounge around causing her to moan "such a pretty site if it wasn't so late I'd make you cum over and over so I can hear those pretty little cries of pleasure but you need sleep babygirl " I smile and look into her eyes "I had no idea you where a top but fuck me it was hot I never let a girl top me but you turned me into a whimpering puddle" I say with a blush she smiles and pecks my lips whispering against my lips "because youre my good little girl" I moan and hide my face in her neck as she giggles and cuddles into me I turn on my side to look into her eyes "I can't believe that just happened I've found it so hard to control my feelings around you" I confess as I kiss her forehead "me to but I want to take you on a real date babe so tomorrow I'm taking you out" I smile and nod as we cuddle and I slowly drift off to sleep with a smile on my face as she tickles my back making me feel content.
AN: ok I'm not gonna lie I was supposed to post this and another yesterday so I apologise but I was out with friends all day for my birthday so completely forgot to finish it but I hope you enjoy I have another then ill start working on the part 2s and requests, hope everyone is good and remember stay hydrated babes haha word count 2k

Forever upsetti spaghetti that Lumine isn’t apart of 4NEMO / 5WIRL.
Anyway imagine being Aether’s little sibling and all the other guys in 5WIRL (a VERY popular band) are completely obsessed with your oblivious self.
All head over heels in love with their friend and band mate’s innocent little sibling.
Of course Aether knows, he’s painfully aware and has told his friends multiple times that if they try anything he can and will beat the shit out of them.
He’s very protective of you, what can he say?
Kazuha gonna be one of ~those guys~ who tells you all the time that “All men are wolves..!” but that he’s different when questioned about himself. He then goes and gives you a bouquet of wild-flowers he picked while on a walk in the park. Type of dude to get on one knee and kiss your knuckles just to make you feel like royalty and blush. Number one café enthusiast, take him with you pls he needs a coffee always.
Xiao is like Aether, protective. It’s fun going out shopping with him, he’ll indulge your antics and follow you to every store (though he lingers in Hot Topic and Spenser’s). If some man tries to flirt with you, yeah.. uh.. he needs to keep his image so nothing physical, but MAN he has a mean tongue and the scariest glare as he drags you away. Good excuse to hold your hand anyway.
Heizou is new to the group, everyones known eachother for years and they’ve only known him for three months. He has a great track record, though! Practically the heart of any party. He fell for you the second he saw you, and now he’s like a little puppy in love, always bringing you cool trinkets he finds at antique stores. He’s the Ride-Or-Die.. though they all are he just hopes you pick him first.
Venti is trouble and Aether tries to keep you from him the most. He’s Aether’s closest friend, he knows you and you know him fairly well, they were college roomates and Venti often came back for holidays. However, Aether knows that Venti is a very handsy drunk.. and he gets drunk often. He’s also a smooth talker, so that doesn’t help. Can’t sleep? Venti will sing you a lullaby! If you want to have a drink, be sure to go to Venti, though! Uhm without Aether knowing. Don’t worry! He won’t let anything happen!
Aether certainly doesn’t like how everyone is so interested in you... but he does accept the fact that you’re an adult and can do whatever you please.. but Archons, if you date one of his band mates.. he’s gonna be sick and going to be crying to their manager, Zhongli, for hours. May even leave said band member a stinky voicemail while he’s drunk.. “Youuuuu! *sniff* don.. don’t hurt my sib-blinin gggg or or i will!! *sniff, hiccup* EAT YOU, I CAN EAT Y-” Zhongli promptly hangs up for him.

rockstar!eddie munson x fem!reader (daisy jones & the six au)
Corroded Coffin is in a desperate need for a new female lead, ready to change it up. Open auditions are held, people come and go, get turned away, until you eventually show up. (6.6k)
fem!reader, enemies to lovers, drug usage/mention, alcohol consumption, swearing, some angst, eddie’s a major douchebag! 18+ only!
chapter 1: rock ‘n’ roll suicide.
ཐི♡ཋྀ
Corroded Coffin was finally hitting it off. They were selling out stadiums and albums left and right, now known as one of the biggest thrash metal bands of the 90’s.
The boys never thought they’d get to this point, the highlight of rock ‘n’ roll. Having an opportunity to experience it all, being able to get the hell out of Hawkins without looking back. Girls practically fell at their feet, a huge difference from High School.
They don’t get strange looks anymore. Now if someone were staring at them, it would be because they were recognized out in public instead of degrading names and harsh glares. Getting gawked at by men and women alike.
Eddie had just finished writing a new song for their new album; Circle of Death.
Despite the harsh title, the songs were nothing of the sort. Eddie wanted to try diverging into something a little different. More softer.
Nothing too soft of course, as that would completely take away from their scene. But every metal band has done slower songs once, right?
The album was solely based around their lives as teenagers, lost love, and anything else someone’s mind can wander to. During the time Eddie spent planning and writing for this album, he basically isolated himself from everyone else. He wanted time to think things out thoroughly, making sure everything comes out properly and entertaining for their thousands of fans.
“Damn, he’s been in there for the past hour and a half,” Jeff stood in their studio, pacing and waiting for Eddie to get out of his daydream in the next room over.
“Think we should check up on him?” Gareth questioned.
“Yeah, he’s wasting time that we could’ve spent recording-“ Jeff was cut off by the sound of a heavy door slamming open.
“I finally finished this shit!” Eddie yelled with joy on his face.
“Jesus Christ!” Jeff jumped back.
Eddie barely paid any mind, grinning from ear to ear at his new song creation.
“What’s got you so happy?” Grant asked.
“Here, read it yourself,” Eddie handed Grant his notebook, a closed-mouth smile on his face.
Grant started reading it over, noticing all of the words that could’ve been but were erased. Eddie’s handwriting was almost hard to read, if the guys weren’t in the studio with him while he was jotting this down, they would’ve thought he was in a rush.
“Shit man, this is actually pretty good,” Grant handed the notebook over to Jeff who was reading over his shoulder. “Are you gonna make this a duet or somethin’?”
“Pfft, no,” Eddie snatched the notebook out of Jeff’s hands.
“Hey-“
“I’m perfectly capable of singing this myself,” Eddie closed the notebook shut. “I’ve done it before and I can do it again.”
“That’s actually a good idea Grant, maybe we should find someone to sing this with you,” Jeff suggested.
Eddie threw himself down on one of the plush velvet couches, tossing his notebook on the cushion right next to him. “What? One of you guys wanna sing a love song with me?”
“Of course I do, Eddie-bear,” Gareth joked, making kissy noises at Eddie. Eddie threw a pillow at Gareth’s head.
“No dude, I mean like-“ Jeff picked up the notebook, opening to the wrinkled page with the lyrics. “-what if we held auditions? I’m sure there will be plenty of girls lining up for the part.”
Eddie had his arms crossed over his chest, staring at Jeff. He must’ve been pondering the idea as he looked completely lost in thought. Eventually, he did speak up.
“What happens if we don’t find someone?” He argued.
“Then it’ll just be a solo song, but hey, we’re fucking rockstars now dude, we have to change it up somehow.” Jeff declared.
The other guys agreed, this new album was supposed to be different from their other albums, it was supposed to contrast to their usual songs.
“Okay okay, fine, but you’ll have to ask Jim about it ‘cus he might not even agree.” Eddie grumbled out.
There were cheers filtering throughout the room, it was usually more difficult to get through Eddie and get him to agree with something, but the guys had a point. They needed to branch out into different styles, it’ll attract larger crowds.
So that’s what they did.
The next day rolled around pretty quickly, Jeff had already gone to Jim with their current idea for this new song.
Jim was their manager, he managed their music, he had the majority of the say on the do’s and don'ts of their music. He was mostly pretty lenient with them though, he thinks that whatever idea they all collectively have and agree on is a choice they can make for themselves.
He didn’t want to entirely make all of the rules for the band, letting them choose their own decisions.
So when Jeff came to him with the duet idea, he thought it was actually a pretty great idea. They’ve never done duets of this sort before, so it was bound to be a tad peculiar for them to do, but not necessarily a terrible idea.
“Alright boys, pull your pants up, auditions are in an hour.” Jim walked into the trailer that the boys shared.
It was nothing like the trailer Eddie lived in growing up, this trailer was much larger and spacious. There were only two rooms in total, but these rooms weren’t cramped and were just enough to fit them.
Eddie jumped up at the sound of Jim’s voice reverberating off the walls, he had a look of confusion on his face and his hair was all mussed up.
“An hour?” Eddie questioned.
“Thanks for notifying us in advance, man.” Eddie mumbled sarcastically.
It didn’t take long for the boys to get ready anyways, but Eddie would be lying if he said he wasn’t at least the slightest bit against the idea. He didn’t tell them his doubts, but he didn’t think that they needed another singer to make the band ‘different’.
He thought they were all perfectly fine with where they were at, content with the normalcy.
When the band arrived at the studio, there was already a line of people waiting to be let in. The message about auditions was just sent out yesterday, but since they grew such a large fan base, it wasn’t hard for the word to get around.
“Look at all these people man!” Gareth said excitedly.
Everyone except for Eddie was excited. This was their chance of change and trying things out.
They decided that it was best to let one person in at a time, as letting everyone in at once would be total chaos and strenuous.
Eddie was sat in a hard plastic chair right in the middle of the other guys. He looked disinterested and frankly uncaring for what was happening.
Some people sounded decent and some just sounded absolutely awful. You could pinpoint who exactly only came here to get into bed with the band. The line for auditions was getting shorter and shorter by the minute, and not one person has caught their eye.
They had no clue what they were looking for, but they just wanted someone good. Someone who had potential.
As they were calling the last of the names on the list, Eddie’s ears perked up at the sound of your name. You weren’t quite a prominent figure in the scene, but anyone who was in a band at the time at least knew your name.
You were a singer-songwriter. Anytime you’ve tried to release your first album, with songs already written for, you were turned away or always had someone trying to change up your own music. You became infuriated at the disrespect, most record labels only did it because you were a woman, and thought ‘this sounds better for you’.
That was bullshit. You knew what was better for you, and it was everything you’ve already had in your little journal you keep in your purse at all times.
When you walked into the padded recording room, it’s like everyone’s eyes lit up.
It was almost like you just had this orange aura surrounding you, you looked a lot different then the wannabe rockers that stepped into the studio that day.
You had these large gold hoops that hung from your ears, bangle bracelets decorating your wrists and jingling with every movement, these extremely short cut off denim shorts that showcased your legs, and brown suede knee high boots on your feet.
It was like you time traveled from the 70’s to the 90’s, this is what the band needed. If they wanted change then hell, were they going to get it.
When you sang, you drew everyone to you, just like a siren's song. It was impossible for Eddie to keep his eyes off of you. There was a slight raspiness to your voice when you sang, but still a soft honeyed undertone.
Eddie looked over to the boys next to him, they must’ve been lured in too, as their eyes could not leave you. He could practically read their minds and their every waking thought just by the looks on their faces.
You sang just a small snippet of Janis Joplin's Move Over.
When you spoke, it broke the trance they were in.
“Was that good?” You had your hands on the bulky headphones sitting on your ears, a slight smile on your lips.
The boys shared a mutual look. They finally found someone for the duet.
What better person than someone who was an aspiring musician anyhow?
Eddie was the first person to give you an applause, the first applause today for that matter. The guys all joined in, giving you approving smiles.
“That was definitely the best performance we’ve seen all day,” Jeff announced.
The boys all agreed, voicing their satisfaction.
They all made their way to the recording room you were in to greet you. You were absolutely over the moon, this moment felt surreal to you, your own career as a musician would finally take off.
Eddie didn’t really say much, just staying quiet the whole time. He thought you did great, just as the others did, but he still wasn’t sure about the duet. He felt that having someone else singing with him would throw him off, it also didn’t help that he just could not keep his eyes off of you.
“So, I’m gonna guess the applause meant I did good?” You asked.
“Yeah, absolutely! That was fucking awesome,” Gareth said exuberantly. “How ‘bout you Eddie?”
“Uh, yeah, you did good.” He was short with his words, giving a tight lipped smile.
All you did was slightly nod your head to his response, looking around the room. You could feel the tension, you didn’t want to just barge in on an already formed band, but they did have auditions. You weren’t going to miss your only opportunity.
Jeff slapped Eddie’s bicep with the back of his hand.
“Ow man, what the fuck?”
“So, Jim! Whatcha think?” Jeff turned to Jim.
“Well, she had the only decent performance today. It’s up to you guys,” Jim already knew you were going to be chosen for the spot.
Everyone but Eddie verbally agreed that you were perfect for the song, you had the look and the voice for it. You weren’t sure what was up with Eddie and why he was so distant from everybody, but you just chalked it up to that he just wasn’t a social person and went on.
This was just the beginning.
When you got back to your apartment later that night, you were elated. Everything went well, you were officially going to be able to release your own music now. If the guys like the way you perform in the duet, they were willing to let you in the band permanently.
It was perfect, you were able to set the future for young girls who aspired to become a musician. Being able to be that prominent figure in the scene right next to Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks.
The first thing you did when you got back was chuck your shoes off. You felt drained from the day you had, but you couldn’t complain. All you could think about was unwinding.
Your apartment was small, there were no hallways, everything was connected and separated just by thin walls.
When you got to your bedroom, you opened your bedside table drawer and took out a small baggie, taking it with you into your tiny living room.
You emptied the crushed powder onto your coffee table, inhaling it up your nose in one go. The burn hurt wonderfully. Giving you enough reprieve for the rest of the night. Everyone told you this was a horrible addiction, but you’ve heard it all already. You know.
But you weren’t going to let someone else run your life. This is what you wanted.
Sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll.
Meanwhile, back at the trailer that the guys shared, Eddie was the only one who was still awake. He was drinking straight from the whiskey bottle, chugging large gulps after one another.
Eddie didn’t do well with change, he had enough of it for a lifetime. He didn’t want to do it again, so that’s why he refused to welcome you to the band with open arms.
He knew you’d do good during the actual performance on stage. He also knew what would happen afterwards. You’d be an official member of Corroded Coffin. It didn’t feel right to him.
Corroded Coffin was formed by four teenage boys who were trying to escape reality. They always dreamed of getting where they’re at now, but Eddie didn’t think they’d ever have to make room in the band for one more.
His only solution was to drink all of his problems away. He’d feel numb enough to finally fall asleep. Just like you, a fleeting moment of reprieve.
Eddie downed the last drop of the alcohol, it felt like fire in his throat, but filling up an empty spot in his stomach. He eventually succumbed to his fatigue, falling into sleep.
It was a Monday.
Monday’s are known to be the worst day of the week, but for the band, they’d probably say it was the best day of the week. They’re now able to practice and record as many songs as they possibly can, preparing for the long week ahead.
Eddie wasn’t so enthusiastic today though. For the entirety of this new upcoming week, you’d be officially recording the duet with him. He had really nothing to say to you, but his attitude spoke volumes.
The guys even realized his brooding mood, not once smiling, cracking jokes, or overall enjoying himself while doing the thing he loves the most. You started to become frustrated. You weren’t sure of what you did to be on whatever hate list Eddie has. Hell, the man hasn’t even fully gotten to know you yet!
If he was going to be that way, well, so were you.
“I think this line should be sung a little softer, I don’t think the screamo works for the lyrics.” You suggested.
“Softer? What about this band looks soft?” Eddie retaliated.
The both of you were standing in the recording room, side by side with Eddie’s tattered notebook on a stand for you to both read from. Eddie had to sort out which lines you were going to sing, and what he’d sing.
“I’m jus’ saying, maybe your fans would enjoy the slight change,” You said with a smug grin. You were trying to lighten the mood, unaware that you were just pissing him off even more.
“Well those fans, became fans cus’ of the ‘screamo’ you speak of,” Eddie put up air quotation marks with his fingers. “Besides, I was the one who wrote the song, so therefore I get a say on how it gets sung.”
“I’m not singing it then.”
“What?”
“You heard me. You wanted a duet partner so you’re going to get a duet partner,” You placed your hands on your hips. “Sometimes you don’t always get what you want.”
“Excuse me? Do I have to remind you that you were the one who chose to show up to those shitty auditions?” Eddie’s brows furrowed. You could tell you pulled a nerve.
“Do I also have to remind you that you were the one who also agreed to bring me into this? Why complain when I’m right here?” You stood face to face with him now. “I am the solution to this duet! If you don’t like my requests then fine, tell me to leave.”
Eddie was looking down at you, anger in his eyes and all over his face. He was actually really beautiful when you could see him this close. His freckles were like constellations on his cheeks and his nose, bangs resting lightly on his forehead.
He didn’t say anything, just scoffed and turned back to the lyrics in front of him.
“Fine, but that’s it. You start changing up these lyrics and you’re on your own.”
You smiled, delighted that you got your way.
Your cute little smile just irked Eddie even more. He was never this easy to negotiate with, but you were right. He did agree on letting you in the band for this song.
The both of you got right to rehearsing, not needing anymore time to have a dispute over the theme of the song. But you couldn’t help to notice that every time you attempted to sing, Eddie would just sing right over you even louder.
“Y’know, it would be great if I could actually hear myself,” You placed your hand on the notebook to catch his attention.
“It’s not my fault you can’t sing any louder.” Eddie mumbled, it was so quiet you just barely missed it.
“I don’t know what the fuck crawled up your ass today, but I highly suggest you pick it out.” You said with more irritation laced in your tone.
Eddie didn’t even respond, just placed his guitar back on the stand and walked towards the door, completely abandoning you.
“Where do you think you’re going?” You questioned.
“Going to pick that thing you mentioned out of my ass.”
He just opened the door to the room and walked out, joining the other guys who were mindlessly fiddling with their instruments.
“What the fuck!” The guys in the other room looked up after hearing your muffled yelling from the next room over. You were standing there in the room alone, arms up next to you to display your annoyance.
“What happened in there, man?” Gareth asked.
“Nothin’.” Eddie said while grabbing a water bottle, then throwing himself down onto one of the couches.
Everyone’s attention diverted over to you when the heavy door slammed against the wall, and you stood there with a scowl on your face. Eddie didn’t even pay you any mind, keeping his concentration on the water bottle in his hands.
“You’re just gonna walk out like that?! We have yet to get anything done!” You yelled, the sound of your bracelets clanking together with every movement.
“Yup.” He popped the ‘p’, still not looking at you.
“You stormed out of the room over a stupid comment, I don’t know how the hell you made it this far in this industry with your huge ass ego.” You crossed your arms over your chest.
Your response seemed to throw him off guard.
“Oh yeah, ‘cus my ego brought me to auditions for a band right? Hopin’ to make it big through someone else’s fame. Hoping that maybe the songs in my notebook will make it further than the same four walls of my room.” Eddie stood up after that, throwing the plastic bottle onto the cushions.
You were speechless. Embarrassed. You didn’t want the other guys to think you were using them to boost your own music, but Eddie made it loud and clear how he thought about you. You weren’t sure you could take anymore of his cold attitude.
“Fine. Have it your way then, good luck finding someone else who will deal with you, ‘cus I’m fucking done.” With that, you turned on your heels and gathered your stuff, making your way to the exit.
“Hey! Wait!” Jeff tried to get you to come back.
You ignored their protests to get you to turn around, slamming the door behind you leaving a resounding ‘thud’ through the room.
“What the fuck man!” The guys were all visibly pissed at Eddie, you were their only chance at change, and they felt like Eddie blew it for them all.
“Dude, do you realize how difficult it was to find someone in this city who was actually good?!” Gareth was equally just as upset.
“We’ll find someone else, it’s L.A. It’s not the end of the world.” That’s all Eddie said to them, following right behind you and leaving himself.
No one chased after him, letting him go figure out this mess on his own. They didn’t know why he was being such an asshole, he was usually never like this towards anyone. Always giving everyone a chance and the benefit of the doubt. But he just couldn’t make an exception for you.
It’s been days since the guys have heard from you, you went completely silent. If only they knew what was really happening.
Since that day, you’ve fallen in a complete catatonic state, shutting out the rest of the world around you. Everything was for once going your way, and now it just crashed and burned. Eddie absolutely humiliated you, and showed no remorse for doing so.
You found solace in a bag of quaaludes you found in your kitchen drawer, it was the only thing among other drugs that calmed your racing mind. Right now you laid haphazardly on your couch, staring up into the ceiling. The world was spinning, but that was normal. You took more than usual tonight, but nothing beyond the point than you’ve taken before.
You wanted nothing more than to punch Eddie’s beautiful face, maybe tell everyone who adored him how he really was. He was nothing more than a douchebag.
Fame must’ve fucked him up, made him grow some type of superiority complex. He tells the same sad story of his childhood to get sympathy from thousands of people, but behind closed doors he’s nothing more than a narcissistic douchebag.
The few pills you’ve taken weren’t enough, you needed something else to take your anger away. Something to calm you down more.
You stood up on shaky legs, staggering over to your kitchen holding onto the counters as you go. You grabbed the half empty bottle of whiskey from your counter, drinking straight from the bottle. Your hands were just as unstable as your legs, barely able to hold the glass bottle.
You made the trek back over to your living room, right before your legs decided that they didn’t want to work properly anymore, making you stumble over your own two feet and dropping the bottle. The glass shards slid everywhere, the brown liquid inside creating a puddle. At that point, all you wanted to do was curl up and sleep for the rest of your life.
As cautiously as possible to avoid getting glass up your foot, you crawled over the couch and face planted into the cushions. Hoping by the time you woke up, you’d be reoriented enough to function properly.
You woke up what felt like days later to a heavy hand banging on your front door.
“Go away.” Your scratchy voice yelled out.
The knocking just got louder, not showing any sign of stopping.
“I said, fucking go away!” You lifted your head from the cushions.
“It’s me. Jeff.” His voice was muffled from the barrier of the door.
Hearing his name, you shot up. You’ve been refusing to speak with them since the argument, wanting to stay as far from Eddie as possible.
You sobered up since a few hours ago, the world wasn’t spinning as much anymore, making it easier to stand up and walk. You made sure to keep a look out of the scattered glass, staying physically aware of furniture around you.
When you got to the door, you unlocked the locks on your flimsy door handle, opening the door just enough so that he’d see you and not get a peek at your apartment's current state.
“Hi.” Your throat burned.
You were sure you looked like a mess. Only wearing a tank top and a pair of panties. Your hair was most definitely all over the place, and your makeup was smeared all over your cheeks.
“Hey,” Jeff’s eyes lit up when you opened the door. “Jus’ wanted to check up on you, you haven’t returned our calls,”
“Oops, forgot to pay the phone bill.” You tried to joke, but no smile found its way on your face.
“Can we talk? I didn’t have a chance to fully speak with you after, y’know..” He scratched the back of his head, looking away briefly.
You laughed through your nose, “After Eddie was a dick to me? Yeah, kinda wanted to keep my distance.”
“Uhm, ignore the mess..” You mumbled while hastily sweeping up the broken glass shards. The majority of the whiskey had dried up, leaving a decent size stain in the wood flooring.
“Oh shit- Lemme help with that.” Jeff went and grabbed paper towels, wiping up whatever liquid was left.
The clutter of glass was quickly cleaned. You’d have to get a rug to cover the stain.
“Sooo, what did you want to talk to me about?” You turned to him, throwing yourself onto your tiny sofa and crossing your legs criss-cross.
“Everything, really,” Jeff chuckled. “I feel like we left off on a bad note. With Eddie freaking out and then walking out, I couldn’t really say much to you.”
You were picking at a loose thread on the couch.
“Listen, we would love you to be in the band. Fuck what Eddie says. It’s three against one, his word means nothing,” He leaned forward, his hands clasped together in front of him.
“Eddie didn’t have it easy growing up, so anyone new that comes in his life, he has this habit of just sabotaging himself and his image. He didn’t mean it.” He had sincerity in his eyes.
“Sometimes he’ll be that way, but it’s just Eddie. He never really opened up to us about anything that’s goin’ on in his head, but that’s ‘cus he’s scared of being ignored.” Jeff looked down to his hands. “Please don’t tell him that I told you this.” He looked back up at you.
You just laughed, leaning back onto the couch and drawing your knees to your chest.
“I had a shit life too, but you don’t see me goin’ around and being a total asshole to people.” You said.
“My mom only had me to make another man jealous, to show him that she can get laid and have another man’s baby. She never loved me. By the time I was fourteen? My mom was gone,” You hugged your arms around yourself. “She ran off with said man who she tried to make jealous.”
There was silence, tension even. It was so thick it was suffocating, no one said anything.
“To this day she refuses to talk to me, trust me, I’ve tried. But if there’s one way to get her to hear me, see me, it’s this. I wanna show her I made something of myself without her shit parenting.” Your brows were furrowed, anger infiltrated your mind at the mere thought of your mother.
Silence again. You looked up to Jeff to see if he was even listening, and there it was. He was looking at you with pity. You wish there was a rewind button so you could just turn back time and not say anything at all. Just keep quiet and let him think Eddie is the victim. You hated the pitying looks you’d get, the last thing you need is for someone to feel sorry for you.
You’ve experienced enough sorrow.
“Anyways, I’ll come back. Eddie’s not gonna run me out, he’s gonna deal with me whether he likes it or not.” You said, sitting up straight.
Jeff’s face just lit up, akin to a child’s face in a toy store. He stood up, shoving his hands in his pockets.
“Thank you, you won’t regret this. I promise you this time.” He replied, making his way to the front door. You stood up and followed right behind him.
“You can come back on Saturday, the weekends are less hectic and Eddie is less likely to blow up,” He turned around to look at you, hand on the doorknob.
“And.. I’m sorry about what happened with you and your mother,” He placed his hand on your shoulder. “You’re going to go far, Y/N.”
He gave you a small smile and left.
Those words will replay in your head for the rest of the night. Hell, probably for the rest of your life.
You’re gonna go far, you’re gonna shove it in your mothers face and tell her, ‘I did it’.
Saturday came very quickly.
Maybe you were trapped in your mind, but you were nervous. You felt like a kid going to a new school. You aren’t new, though. You’ve been here before, you’ve done this.
Walking into the studio granted you a little relief, Eddie wasn’t there yet. It was only Jeff, Gareth, Grant, and yourself. It was almost like a weight was lifted off your chest. Sure, maybe him arriving and you already being there was worse than getting there when he was here, but the guys aren’t going to let him boss you around.
“We’re so glad you’re back, it didn’t feel right without you here.” Gareth voiced.
“Let’s hope I don’t regret coming back.” You said with a smile.
A few minutes in, and all of the guys were conversing with you. It felt like you’ve known them for years. You were so deep in conversation that you didn’t notice Eddie walk through the door. He just stood there in the doorway, staring at you.
“What’s she doin’ here?” He questioned.
“She’s here ‘cus we need her, you know that.” Jeff replied.
Eddie just rolled his eyes and walked in, walking right to the recording room. “Well? We just gonna sit here, or are we gonna get shit done?” Eddie questioned bitterly.
“Yup.” You rolled your eyes, grabbing your bag that was resting on the ground and grabbing the pill bottle inside.
The small pills rattled around in the bottle. Your drug of choice today was Dextroamphetamine. Different from the usual quaaludes, but it was all you had in your bag currently and you knew you were going to need it.
You quickly popped a few of the pills into your mouth, swallowing them with ease. Dexies help you focus more, and maybe you’ll be more calm throughout rehearsing.
You hurriedly made your way to the live room, not wanting to fuel the fire that was already brewing inside Eddie.
“We’re gonna need to start over, since you probably don’t remember where we left off.” Eddie said emotionless, not even looking at you.
“I actually do remember where we left off, but we should start from the top anyhow. You were the one who stormed out.” You were quick with your response, not looking at him either.
“That’s funny, ‘cus I’m not the one popping pills.” He lowered his voice.
Your hand tightened around the mic stand you were holding. You weren’t going to respond to him, no matter what you said back it wouldn’t warrant a great reaction from him.
The guys walked into the room with big smiles on their faces, laughing and fooling around.
“You guys ready to officially start this!” Gareth yelled out.
Neither you or Eddie really replied, both murmuring out a quiet ‘mhm’. At that everyone immediately took their places; Gareth at the drums, Jeff at the bass, Grant at guitar, you and Eddie both doing vocals while Eddie has his guitar as well.
The song started out slowly, no need for heavy instruments. This song didn’t necessarily require anything heavy anyways, but it was still nice to keep a few of the thrash metal elements to the music, no matter how fast or slow the song was. You had the majority of the vocals, but Eddie had a few.
Things were just a little different this time. You weren’t expecting Eddie to let you off that easily, he only asked why you were here and that’s it. You felt that was a major upgrade from last time. But of course, it wouldn’t be Eddie if he didn’t ignore you most of the time.
You could tell he was trying his hardest to not make eye contact with you. You were able to feel him glancing at you, but whenever you made the move to turn your head and look at him yourself, he’d quickly turn away, putting his focus back into the written lyrics or his guitar.
By the end of the first half of practice, your throat hurt. Your voice had a raspiness to it from the strain, but it felt great. You were on cloud nine. Everything was finally falling back into place, you felt that high that you’d only get when you smoked weed and drank, even though you only took a few pills.
“Holy shit! That was fucking awesome!” Grant shouted out.
“Hell yeah it was! This rehearsal was so much better than last time!” Gareth yelled back.
It was time for a much needed break, everyone made their way back into the main room of the studio.
“What did you guys think of that?” You asked while sitting on the red velvet armchair, taking a small sip out of your bottled water.
“That was even better than your audition, dude! I mean, not that your audition wasn’t good, but this was like, hundred times fucking better!” Jeff exclaimed.
You giggled at his enthusiasm. Jeff reminded you of a brother you never had, you’d picture this is what having a brother would feel like. Even though you’ve known him for a total of a week, he treated you like you’ve known him for ages. Never once letting the awkwardness of meeting someone for the first time appear between you both.
“Maybe once this album gets debuted, we can record some of the songs I’ve written? We can release it as an album for the band as a whole,” You suggested.
Eddie looked up at you at that one.
“Already planning that far ahead?” He asked. “We have yet to even perform this one, why don’t you wait before jumping to something new?”
You scowled. “No need to get so uptight, it was just a suggestion.” You bit back. His attitude towards you has been hot and cold all day, sending out mixed signals constantly. You were never able to tell how he was actually feeling, one minute he acted like he liked you at least a little, then the next he acted as if you were the worst thing to walk this planet.
“I’m jus’ sayin’.” Eddie had a bored expression on his face, as if your existence was an inconvenience.
You just rolled your eyes, not interested in getting into another heated debate with him. You chugged half of your water bottle, knowing that once you leave the studio today you’d have to stop at the liquor store to buy another bottle of whiskey, or maybe something stronger.
“Okaaay you two! Maybe we should end break early today, we need to practice as much as we can.” Grant suggested.
Jeff and Gareth both agreed, Eddie only nodding in response. You didn’t really care for the break, wanting to take up as much practice as you can.
Walking into the recording room was less exciting as it was before, it seems like Eddie ruined the mood once again with his comments towards you.
“Maybe we should find a certain part of the song to focus on, there’s some parts we need to fix,” You offered. Eddie seemed to hate that idea, as he scoffed.
“I thought the guys sounded fine, so I’m not sure what parts need fixing.” Eddie responded. The statement wasn’t outright rude, but it was just the tone in his voice that set you off. As if he was suggesting you were the problem.
“I don’t know, you wrote the lyrics, so you tell me.”
“It’s definitely not the lyrics, maybe it’s the person who’s singing them.”
“Okay, I get it. We left on a bad note last time, but I still don’t understand why you’re always such a bitch to me. I have done nothing to you!” You threw your hands in the air.
“How the fuck am I supposed to get anything done when you’ve had this, I don’t know, two-faced attitude towards me,” You were fuming at this point, you didn’t care the guys were watching. “One minute you seem fine with me being here, maybe even enjoying my presence, and then the next minute you’re just- you’re- an egotistical prick!”
“Let’s not do this. We gave you a second chance, you’re lucky you’re even back here. We have shit we have to get done.” Eddie surprisingly showed no want in arguing, but you knew deep down he’d love nothing more than to get under your skin. But you also didn’t want to argue. But you also couldn’t stand him shutting you out and trying to silence you.
“This is what I fucking mean.” Your response was less fierce. The ongoing back and forth between you two was tiring, it was getting hard to keep up with, and you’ve only been here for a day and a half.
You just sighed and turned your attention back to the sheet music. You knew when to continue fights and when to stop them, and in this moment it was best to just let it go for now. Mainly for the sake of the others, not Eddie.
The rest of rehearsal was a bit rocky, some pauses here and there and sharp glares exchanged between you and Eddie. You made sure you stopped to grab another bottle of whiskey before heading home for the night.
Next week was going to be a long, long week.

any music recs?
i could have made this very short or entirely too long. i opted for the latter:
HAVE YOU LOOKED FOR SOME NEW MUSIC TO LISTEN TO? LOOK NO FURTHER, FOR HERE IS
Tumblr media
I know. There's a lot of music out there. Well have no fear, because I've selected, organized AND categorized a fine number of music selections, just for you! I tried to keep it to just stuff you probably haven't heard of before, but I make no promises. Hopefully you'll find at least one new thing you can take with you into 2023.
MAKE YOUR SELECTION:
1 - MIKE, I'M LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO GROOVE TO. SOMETHING I CAN GET DOWN AND VIBE WITH OR PERHAPS LISTEN TO WHILE I WORK:
Sounds good! Let's start with a few of those:
Vulfpeck - Okay you may already know about Vulfpeck. Sorry. If you HAVEN'T, they're a wonderful group of dudes from Michigan that are all insanely talented. They have a wide-range of styles they cover and pretty much every member has gone on to do other solo stuff, which may also suit your interests. They also have a spin-off band called The Fearless Flyers that I'll cover a little further down.
Jacob Mann (As well as his Big Band) - Jacob's solo stuff has a nice laid-back feel to it, while his big band stuff is slightly more bombastic, but all of it is fun and groovy. Great example of a musician effectively switching between different toolsets, whether its a whole group of talented musicians at his disposal or just a bunch of nice Roland presets.
EMEFE - They haven't been very active lately but EMEFE is an incredible ensemble with plenty of amazing music for you to listen to. Their live album from 2017 makes me wish i could go back in time and watch it live.
Louis Cole - Louis Cole's also pretty popular, but maybe you haven't heard of him! Originally hailing from Knower, he's collaborated with a ton of musicians (including Vulfpeck AND Jacob Mann Big Band, mentioned above) as well as produced an impressive array of solo music. I can't understate how much I love this guy.
Thundercat - Know who else he's collaborated with? Thundercat. Have you listened to Thundercat? You should really do yourself a favor and listen to Thundercat.
Sammy Rae and The Friends - Only learned about Sammy Rae very recently but The Feeling (linked) was an earworm that lodged itself in my brain for months. Infectiously positive vibes, a great ensemble and really brilliant singing.
Silk Sonic - Okay they played at the Grammys so it definitely doesn't count as a deep cut but listen to Silk Sonic anyway okay? Okay.
2- MIKE I NEED SOMETHING THAT WHIPS ASS. SOMETHING TO COMPLETELY KNOCK MY SOCKS OFF.
Can do. Your metric of kickass may vary but at least one of these should work for you:
King Gizzard and The Wizard Lizard - King Gizz has put out such an unbelievable volume of music that it's hard to just recommend ONE thing from them. I've linked Nonagon Infinity, a great little album with the fun gimmick of seamlessly looping front to back. They really haven't put out a single bad album, so just go wild.
Royal Blood - Royal blood's bassist plays through an octave pedal, giving their stuff this fuckin' beefy sound that's well-rounded enough you'd never guess the band is just a bassist and a dummer. Their style has gotten poppier lately but it's still all worth listening to.
Tricot - Tricot's been around for around 10 years now and their stuff has only gotten better over time. I feel like Math Rock is kind of an obtuse genre for most people but their recent stuff is absolutely worth checking out even if that's not your usual sort of thing. Makkuro (真っ黒) is my favorite album of theirs by far.
Thank You Scientist - Stranger Heads Prevail is probably one of my favorite prog albums ever and you'll probably like it too. Insanely good ensemble (the amazing triple threat of sax/trumpet/violin is such an integral part of their sound) and really fun vocals.
Nova Collective - Another incredible prog group. As far as I know they've only put out one album but it whips ass.
Ask My Bull - These guys popped out of the woodwork a few years ago and I've been obsessed with them ever since, I can't wait to see what they do next. If you're a horn-loving freak like me you absolutely need to listen to them.
Fearless Flyers - The previously aforementioned Vulfpeck spin-off band, guest starring Mark Lettieri of Snarky Puppy and the incredible Nate Smith on drums. Their album Tailwinds is easily one of my favorite albums ever, the addition of a sax trio takes their stuff from incredible to legendary.
Daikaiju - Kaiju-themed surf rock. That's really all that needs saying.
3 - MIKE I NEED SOMETHING THAT'LL MAKE ME SAY "DAMN THAT'S COOL"
Well you're in luck! A wide range of things fit the bill:
Snarky Puppy - A powerhouse jazz/funk/rock ensemble full of insanely talented musicians. Just give this song a listen, you won't regret it.
The Dear Hunter - Dear Hunter (not Deerhunter. Different band) has remained my favorite band since high school. The band has a number of different projects, A collection of EPs for each color of the rainbow, a 5-part rock opera/narrative concept album (with a 6th part that may be a movie??) and other more straightforward albums that still cover a broad range of genres and styles. I think they're great and hopefully you will too.
Hiromi Uehara - Hiromi's probably my favorite pianist ever. Just watch that video. She's ridiculous. She also plays in an incredible trio and guest stars on my favorite Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra song! Preposterously talented and insanely fun to watch. I love her.
The Bad Plus - Speaking of great trios, you can't go wrong with The Bad Plus! Really vibrant arrangements and generally incredible musicianship throughout their work.
Esperanza Spalding - Obscenely talented bassist AND singer AND songwriter. As someone who sings and plays bass (not at the same time, of course) watching her do effortlessly do both at the same time is mesmerizing. I love her.
Chon - Chon's also pretty big now but I want you to imagine you're me at a Dear Hunter (see above) concert back in 2015 and one of the opening bands walks onstage and you're like "well okay what's these guys' deal" and then they start playing these fucking insane picking solos in perfect unison. I literally couldn't believe what I was seeing. I wish everyone could experience Chon through those eyes.
4 - MIKE THOSE ARE COOL AND ALL BUT WHAT I'M REALLY LOOKING FOR IS SOME MUSIC TO GET BUNDLED UP AND GO TO SLEEP TO
You need ambient? I got your ambient right here.
Hiroshi Yoshimura - I was first exposed to the wide, wide world of Japanese ambient music back in college and in all my years since then, few things have been able to beat Yoshimura's atmospheric soundscapes. If you need music to shut your brain off (and who doesn't, from time to time), look no further.
Chihei Hatakeyama - Another Japanese ambient powerhouse, Hatakeyama's got a huge discography of music and all of it will knock your lights out (very pleasantly).
Green-House - Very much inspired by Japanese ambient, Green-house is described as "music for plants". I only wish there was more of it.
Joep Beving - Not exactly an ambient artist but a masterful practitioner of minimal, atmospheric piano. His style is understated but filled with emotion, a great mix of more classical elements with a modern cinematic flair. Great to work to!
5- MIKE EVERYONE'S TALKING ABOUT JAPANESE CITY POP, JAZZ FUSION AND EARLY ELECTRONIC MUSIC BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START. GET ME ON THE GROUND FLOOR HERE
You got it boss:
Yellow Magic Orchestra - You've probably heard of these guys by now. I've only known about them for 6-ish years after they had a moderate burst of fame here but I think it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say these guys were one of the principle pieces of genetic memory that coalesced into the DNA of modern electronic music. All three of the principle members, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi (rest in peace) have all had really prolific solo careers in a ton of styles of music that are all worth your time.
T Square - An absolute titan of Japanese jazz fusion, their album Adventures is a veritable Rosetta Stone of video game music, directly inspiring a good number of video game songs including the dang mario brothers theme! Their stuff is an absolute joy to listen to.
Tatsuro Yamashita - Yamashita is often called the king of city pop and is (according to wikipedia) credited for pioneering Japanese "soft rock". Having grown up on the pacific coast, there's some ineffable truth in his schmaltzy surf music that touches me deep in my soul. You may not have the same experiences as I do, but I hope listening to him will allow you to tap into that divine spark and enjoy it for yourself.
Masayoshi Takanaka - Perhaps not quite as famous as Yamashita, Takanaka is a brilliant guitarist and musician known for that same schmaltzy pacific rock (just look at that damn guitar. I love him) as well as a number of other styles of rock and jazz fusion. He's got a huge discography and it's all incredible.
Casiopea - I would be remiss if I didn't mention Casiopea. I'm not an expert in Japanese music obviously, but I think it'd be fair to say they and T-Square are the two titans holding the glory of late 70's-early 80's jazz fusion like Atlas shouldering the world. Do yourself a favor and listen to Mint Jams.
Himiko Kikuchi - Truthfully I don't know much of Kikuchi's discography other than Flying Beagle (linked) but she absolutely killed it. Do yourself a favor and listen to that too.
6 - WELL MIKE THAT'S ALL WELL AND GOOD BUT WHAT IF I WANT SOMETHING WEIRD THAT DOESN'T FIT IN ANY OF THOSE CATEGORIES
I'm always happy to recommend unconventional stuff. Here's a few albums that I love to close us out:
Tom Waits - Alice - First of all, you should listen to Tom Waits. I know you know him as the Funny Voice Guy but he's had such an incredible musical career that starts great and only gets more and more amazing over time. Anyway, in the 90's, Tom and his wife (and writing partner since the 80's) Kathleen Brennan were scoring weird experimental musicals in Germany, namely The Black Rider (also worth listening to) and Alice. The musical is a strange extrapolation of Alice in Wonderland, namely inspired by Charles Dodgson's (Lewis Carroll) relationship with Alice Liddell, generally accepted as the real-life inspiration for Alice. Though the actual specifics of their relationship are uncertain, the age discrepancy and Charles' general fixation with Alice leads many to assume....the worst about their relationship, an interpretation the musical runs with. The actual musical is hard to find evidence of (there's some documentary footage from the 90's and I've found the script) but Tom rearranged his music for the show and released it in 2002, which in my eyes is the definitive version of the music. The album is unbelievably melancholic, heart-wrenching, at times deeply uncomfortable, and absolutely filled with beauty. Lost in the Harbor is maybe one of my favorite songs of all time. If ANY of this sounds even slightly interesting to you, I implore you to check it out. It also has Colin Stetson on saxophone and clarinet, which segues quite nicely to the next album.....
Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2 - You may have actually heard Colin's music before, he's scored films like Hereditary, Color Out Of Space and the newest Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. New History Warfare is one of his experimental solo projects, most characterized by Stetson recording basically everything in a huge room filled with microphones, creating this incredible impression of scale. It's filled with some of the craziest shit I've ever heard someone do on a saxophone; long, galloping phrases with no pauses for air thanks to circular breathing, mixing in the sound of the valves opening and closing, and an incredible unnatural-sounding delay all achieved with live recording. The Righteous Wrath of An Honorable Man is one of the coolest things I've ever heard in my life (you've probably already heard it before) but the whole album is absolutely captivating.
Caroline Shaw - Partita for 8 Voices - Caroline Shaw is an amazing musician, singer and composer. All of her stuff is really beautiful and worth listening to, but few things stand out as much as this composition, written for and performed by a cappella group Roomful of Teeth (which is probably the sickest possible name for a choral group). I feel like a cappella music has a woefully bland perception among most people (thanks in no small part to Pitch Perfect); all lavish arrangements of pop music with absolutely no soul. If this is what you think all a cappella music is, I urge you to listen to this album. It's a masterful blend of speech, song and energy, filled with a vibrancy and passion I have a difficult time putting into words. You really just have to listen to it.

Music genius Steve won't leave my mind and now my brain has an entire story cooked so there it is (buckle up, you're in for a long drive)
+ Steve and Eddie bond after the upside down and Eddie, who was expecting Steve to call his music 'noise' or to exclusively want to listen to top 30 songs, notices Steve likes pretty much all kind of music, and Steve confesses he never really paid attention to it : his dad influence, think music is disposable and anyone pursuing it as a career is ruining their life, that's why he made fun of Tammy Tomson is S3 but seeing Eddie with Corroded Coffin at gigs/practices is making him change his mind.
+ Steve rapidly learns Eddie's song by heart and sings them, adapting the key to his voice and capacity, sometimes doing some impro. He's really good at it.
+ Other than band practice, Eddie has jamming sesh with Johnathan and Argyle. Johnathan plays the bass and Argyle has one of those cool electric keyboard that can do all type of sounds
+ (Argyle is rich, like, his family owns Surfer Boy Pizza, and he gets his own apartment in Hawkins and it's where all of them hang out most of the time).
+ Eddie start to teach guitar to Steve with his acoustic one, till one day Steve shows up with what he think is an electric one (he wants to be cool like Eds), but it's a bass, so now Johnathan also teach him.
+ As a good band kid, Robin also get dragged into all of this, she's always there but since Trumpet is not easy to add in their music she takes a fancy on drums. Gareth start to teach her and everyone can see he's got a crush on her. I think it would come out one night around a bond fire, when Jeff teases him about it. Robin looks at him to gauge his reaction but he's very layd back, he just shrugs whit a ''So?'' and the boys go crazy except that Steve seems worried. Eddie thinks it jealousy, especially when Robin looks at him next, but Steve just nods, very tense and then Robin comes out to everyone. Eddie's surprised Steve knew already and was fine about it but it makes him feel brave so he takes one more big gulp of liquid courage and announce that he's gay too.
+ after a while, Eddie starts asking Steve for his opinions when he writes songs, and Steve doesn't seems to understand why him, but he helps and every suggestion he has is good.
+ Sometimes they have really deep conversation about life and it's meanings and once Steve ask the traditional ''How did you know you were... You know'' and Eddie's been picking clues up for a while now, how Steve Gase lingers on some boys sometimes and other things, but he doesn't push it, only talking about his own experience.
+ So for Eddie, the logical following would be for Steve to write his own songs, but Steve is like ''Dude, I hardly can read and write and you want me to do music?!'' Robin immediately volunteer to write things down and when Eddie buys him a recorder two days later with a ''Now you don't have to write '' comment to go with it, Steve start to understand that his friends are serious when they say he's talented.
+ Corroded Coffin get spotted by a record at one of their gigs in Indianapolis. Quite quickly they get signed, and they have to go record an album in Chicago. Steve does all the driving because he claims the boys needs to have energy for it/ rest after, so they sleep in the back at all time.
+ On one of the trips to Chicago, one of the Corroded Coffin boy get wind of a gay bar opening in the street they work at and they all decide to go, at least to see how it is. That night Steve and Eddie kiss for the first time (it's not a relationship seal, they just talked a lot about Steve figuring his sexuality lately, and seeing all those ppl being happy makes him want to try so he ask Eddie if they can kiss. Of course the boy says yes, but he understands the second they lips meet that he's fucked (as in he's in love)).
+ After the first Corroded Coffin albums drops, it takes only a month for the boy's to get a US tour fully booked, Chicago is their first and last date and all of the party is there both time, standing in the front row. Their last is a Sunday, so they think they finally get to SLEEP for the rest of their life, but on Saturday, Dustin barges in their hotel room to drag their ass out, especially Eddie's. ''Dont ask and trust me on this one, you'll thank me later'' and they end up in a really small bar at Steve very 1st gig, with him on the guitar, Johnathan on the bass, Robin as their grummer and Argyle with his wierd keyboard. And the 1st song is ''Figure you out'' from DJO and Eddie's mesmerized, getting flash back of the time Steve admitted having no idea of who he was and what he wanted to do with his life, Eddie's telling him he had all his life to figure it out.
+ Eddie kisses him senseless after the wrapping up, saying to Steve that he's never gonna let him go again, that he missed him too much while on tour so now that he's an accomplished artist he's gonna drag him to do Corroded Coffin first part in their newt tour and Steve respond with something like ''I love you too'' while someone, the only person who hadn't already understood what was going on between those two (so probably like because he's too busy dealing with his own sexual crisis) is looking at them with their jaw on the floor.

This is it! My last batch of reviews. This time my boyfriend supplied six albums. He is more of a singles and eps kinda guy so the album choices are kinda...
Tumblr media
The Front Bottoms - Going Grey
The Front Bottoms have existed in my periphery for a little while now. I'll hear a song now and then but I've never sat down and listened to an album. Going Grey exists somewhere in between 10s indie folk and 00s pop punk/emo. The lyrics are solidly unsophisticated without being stupid. A love letter to immaturity. It is clearly the work of someone looking back on their younger self and fondly roasting them. The music really supports this by primarily utilizing the tendencies of immature 00s pop punk and pretentious 10s indie folk. The contrast makes the tongue in cheek nature of the music clear without ever having to signal too overtly to the listener.
Tumblr media
Blink-182 - California
So I actually kinda like Blink-182. I think their music from the 90s is a pure and raw expression of suburban alienation. Plus Travis Barker is an unbelievably good drummer. Unfortunately this album is from 2016. Ok it's not all bad actually. Tom DeLonge has been replaced by Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba and he lends a bit of that emo sound to the album which isn't really much of a jump. Barker is still capable of breakneck drum fills. And a lot of the songs have the energy of their 90s output. There is a lingering feeling though that these men are in their 40s and still singing about being teenagers. Please stop. But between big misses like Kings Of The Weekend and Teenage Satellites are songs that remind me why I liked this band in the first place. The Only Thing That Matters is a major standout track for having the rawness and speed that made me love them back in their Dude Ranch Days. California is a mixed bag, but it's honestly a lot better than you'd expect out of a 2016 Blink-182 album.
Tumblr media
Fall Out Boy - Mania
What the fuck happened to this band? From Under The Cork Tree is one of the best albums of the 00s full of witty lyricism and catchy music. Mania is an Imagine Dragons album. Fall Out Boy have become soulless trend chasers who don't even really care about the music they make. It's generically "epic" with vapid lyrics that don't communicate anything. Someone needs to euthanize these idiots before they go making more music.
Tumblr media
Rezz - A Certain Kind Of Magic
Rezz is a lesser known DJ and electronic music producer that more people need to listen to. She has an incredibly chaotic style that mixes dubstep, brostep, electro house, and hip hop. And if that sounds a lot like Skrillex to you don't worry. While Rezz has a lot in common with her obnoxious brostep predecessor she is also capable of composing music that isn't just nonstop sensory overload. The peaks and valleys are what make her music so engaging, a very energetic segment can easily turn right into a lower bass driven dubstep sequence. The bass is crunchy with smoother mids and high ends and there are a good number of samples. A Certain Kind Of Magic also inexplicably ends on basically an emo song which catches me off guard every time, but goes to show how a wide range of influences makes for interesting music.
Tumblr media
Rainbow Kitten Surprise - RKS
I don't hate this. I'll admit that the whole indie white boy blues aesthetic never clicked with me, and I can point to a number of bands doing this sort of thing that I like better, but I can point to innumerable bands that I like much, much less. RKS is deeply inoffensive music that isn't gonna hold my attention too hard, but it does have a few moments that are truly enjoyable. Particularly when they let down that bombastic sound and let those bubbly clean guitar lines shine.
Tumblr media
Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway
I've been given special instructions for this one. I have to sit in the back of a car on my way home from my friend's house while it's raining and then I have to listen to this album and feel bad. I don't have any way to do that.
What is Kelly Clarkson? Being the first American Idol winner puts her in a position where she's primed to be a golden goose for a bunch of executives. As such her options for artistic integrity are severely limited to the commercially profitable. On Breakaway Clarkson split from the Idol management to craft an album that dated to explore outside the mainstream pop landscape. The results are embarrassing.
Obviously she was never going to make good music. I would be an idiot to try and give an American Idol contestant the benefit of the doubt in regards to their artistic sincerity. Her voice is a hollow void of emotion. The lyrics are paint by number. The music shows the outline of an emotion. Kelly Clarkson is the shadow on the wall of Plato's cave. Her fans incapable of comprehending that this is just a pale imitation of real music.
So I ask again. What is Kelly Clarkson? The answer seems obvious now. Kelly Clarkson is a name that once belonged to a human being and now is the property of record companies. The name is attached to records and the records are expected to sell based on the name. The human being that once shared the name Kelly Clarkson is a shadow. Kelly Clarkson is a music career. Kelly Clarkson is the avatar of the American Idol social experiment. Kelly Clarkson is a cipher. There is no such thing as Kelly Clarkson, there is only the music. But the music is also a shadow. There is nothing here. A shadow cast by a shadow. You cannot find the artistic merit in this music any more than you can get blood from a stone.

Okay so I have this weird hc with 1dbandmember!reader where 1d is on interviews and they ask about Olivia and when Harry responded with "is Olivia even a person? A place? An emotion we'll never know" He answered for R because the interviewer was wondering if she was bi because she also sings songs about females and Harry was deflecting the question for R.
Ella you know he sooo did this and its something that i feel needs to be talked about since i got asked about this a few times
i always wrote/pictured yn as straight (but she's essentially you so you can decide for yourself) so whenever she was asked questions if she was bi because of their music, you know the boys would step in to deflect the questions.
so like when the interviewer dude is like, "ok, so yn, i heard that you helped write this song, right?"
and yn kind of perks up a bit because it's really rare that someone recognizes her for her song writing or being as much of a serious musician as the rest of the guys in the band. she gives a small smile and a curt nod of her head, "i did yeah."
"ok so i have to ask, who's olivia? is she a possible secret crush you have on a certain lady? is this you finally coming out and embracing your sexuality?"
and she internally deflates. it takes everything in her to hold her polite smile at the man who points the microphone towards her with an excited smile, acting like he didn't ask such an inappropriate question.
right as she's about to open her mouth to curve the answer like her media training taught her, harry steps in from her left.
"is olivia even a person? is olivia an emotion? is she a place? we don't know." he says with a grand sway of his hands. niall comes in questionings if its because the name maybe rhymes with 'live for ya'
"it's open to interpretation," yn speaks up from her spot between the boys. "so she can be who ever y'want her to be which i think can be really fun when it comes to music."
and the interviewer takes that as a good enough answer for time sake. as he reads another question from his deck of cards, yn discreetly and gently rubs her knuckles on the side of their thighs. niall puts his hand on top of hers while harry looks to her with a reassured furrow of his eyebrows and small nod of his head.
and it would OBVIOUSLY make everyone (especially yn) uncomfortable because no matter her sexual orientation #1: that stuff is personal & doesn't need to shared if she doesn't want to and #2: that's not the focus or image of her career.
since she would constantly be asked stuff like this during interviews for years on end, it wasn't until she left her old management (where they forced this image of a 'sit still, look pretty' attitude on her during 1d) and went solo that she said in an interview:
"look, here's the thing. since 99.9% of our audience were teenage girls, it obviously made sense to make songs directed towards females or use she/her pronouns. and to be honest, i never really had a problem with that. sure it was a little weird at first since i'm a straight female singing love songs to other females but the majority of the time it would only be in the chorus that i would have to sing along to; my verses were mostly for a general audience.
it only began to bother me when interviewers, grown ass adults, would question and pressure me--a teenager at the time--if i was bisexual and wanted to know about my sex life. like, who does that?
anyways, the boys were always there to speak for me when i wasn't able to. and they knew, they knew, that if i spoke up during those times in the way i wanted to, it would come back and bite me later with headlines and tabloids claiming that i wasn't 'ladylike' or i was 'over-dramatic, sensitive' or whatever else they want to say about me. and i'm very grateful for that, i really am. s'just now i really don't care what people say about me, v'heard it all at this point, y'know?
not to mention that as the albums progressed, we used a lot less pronouns and wha' not in our songs. but even then i still got questioned because of songs like Olivia. a song that i helped fooking write and produce!" yn let out a genuine laugh. "dunno, man. it is what is it now and m'just happy that the fans are still as supportive for me as they've always been--if not more so--so that's all that matters, really."

the tape: eddie munson x reader!
Tumblr media
“One of our favorite customers just left one of her tapes here, you need to come by,” Robin says on the phone, instead of hello or any other pleasantry.
“Don’t you guys have a store full of tapes?” Eddie asks. What was so important about someone else’s viewing history? We’re they watching Wizard of Gore or something?
“Dude, no.” Robin sighs, exasperated even though she’s the one being vague, “It’s a cassette. It’s her band. I think Corroded Coffin officially has competition.”
Eddie barely throws the phone back on the hook before he’s dashing out the door.
Corroded Coffin having competition? No way, they were the only hard rock fixture in the county, Eddie was sure of it. The rest were all cover bands or groups trying to do what Blondie was doing, except worse because at least Blondie knows how to write a damn song.
The ride over is quick because Eddie disrespects the sanctity of all ‘No Turn on Red’ signs and pops one curb, and soon he’s throwing the car into park and basically jumping out to hear this so called competitors tape.
“Lay it on me, Buckley!” he shouts as he throws the door open. Steve gives him a quizzical look before Robin whispers a name to him and he nods in understanding.
“You’re not gonna believe this, I knew you had to see it,” Robin says, handing over the cassette case.
“Say 10 Mistress,” Eddie reads out loud, and then “OH!”
It dawns on him.
“Yeah it’s like a pun!” Robin exclaims. He just stares at her for a moment before he asks her to lead him to the nearest stereo. She takes him to the back office where Keith never is because he ‘has game with the ladies’ and ushers him to sit at the little table and chair set up back there.
“Just listen,” Robin commands, as if Eddie wasn’t already vibrating with anticipation over this goddamn tape. She shoves it into the stereo, presses down the big play button, and crouches down next to the table.
The music roars to life after a few seconds of noise.
The first song is full of heavy bass, hypnotic and pulsing while a female voice sings about devotion and love and giving your all to someone else. Okay, Eddie thinks, the lyrics aren’t really his thing but he can really get down with the instrumentals.
“Just wait til the end,” Robin insists, patting the top of the stereo again.
Eddie gives it a go, and he finds himself drumming along, tapping his forefinger and his thumb against the formica tabletop.
And then the song hits the end. Gone are the lyrics about love, now replaced by the woman’s voice shrieking while a man’s voice details the steps to a demonic sacrifice in the most clinical and doctoral way Eddie’s ever heard. Oh, this is fucking sick. The screams die out, and so does the music with tons of reverb and static. It sounds like something taboo, something people shouldn’t be listening to. Eddie wants more.
“Okay what’s the next one?” he asks eagerly.
“Something a little different…” Robin trails off, unsure of how to describe it.
Eddie recognizes it instantly as a cover of The Cramps’ new single ‘Can your Pussy do the Dog?’ which came out just that past year and in the UK only. Eddie had only heard it twice from a bootlegged vinyl he found at a flea market in Indianapolis, but he still had the record somewhere in his room. The woman on the tape has the same Elvis-like inflection as Lux Interior and uses some of her more shrill tones to her advantage. She trails off some of the lines with moans that have Eddie shifting in his seat.
“Is this song about…?” Robin asks for clarification, wanting to make sure she’s right.
“Oh definitely, she’s singing about girl-on-girl action,” Eddie confirms, punctuating it with a knowing raise of his eyebrows. That’s not what the original song is about, but with this female vocalist, it changes the meaning. Robin flushes and leans back on her heels a little shocked. That’s definitely unheard of in Indiana. There’s a wild improvised guitar solo not on the original track while a male voice howls, growls, and pants into a microphone like a rabid dog, and then the song abruptly stops.
The third and final song starts, and it’s another original. This one starts fast and aggressive, guitar ripping through the speakers and the woman’s voice punching out the lyrics. The song is angry, about the trappings of little towns like this one, about the trappings of being a woman, about the trappings of being different. It’s not metal, but it’s definitely punk that leans on the conventions of metal. Eddie fucking loves it. This song is the shortest, a screaming crescendo ending the song before the woman’s voice finally ends the song with no backing instruments.
“Fuck this place, and fuck me too.”
The cassette clicks to the end of its tape and stops, and once again it’s just Eddie and Robin sitting under the weirdly greenish fluorescent lighting in the back room of Family Video.
“Uh, wow,” is all Eddie has to say at first. He’s stunned. Was the customer the woman singing? If so, she has to be some sort of siren or banshee.
“She told me to show this tape to people and get the word out,” Robin offers.
“And you said she’s a favorite customer of yours?”
Robin stands again, looking a little sheepish.
“Well yeah, she’s got like, really good taste. And she’s not super mean when she shuts Steve down. And she’s got this really pretty hair and she smells like fall spices all year round and she’s really polite and….” Robin trails off, “And I’m rambling, aren’t I?“
“You’re giving me a lot to think about, Robs,” Eddie stands too.
“Does this Say 10 Mistress play any shows?”
Robin can’t help but beam at this question.
“They play The Corner Thursdays?”
“The— fuck the — the Corner Thursdays? Corroded has only been trying to get on that bill for months!” Eddie voice rises almost an entire octave as he works himself up over the information.
Robin just smirks, as if she’s proud of herself for delivering that information. Eddie’s quick to exit the back room, check his watch, and head out the door again with a quick nod to Steve, all while muttering.
“Fucking Thursdays, We’ll see how good this is live.”
Robin watches him leave, and slides in next to her best friend behind the counter.
“I can’t believe you did that,” he says.
“You put me up to it, Dingus!”
“We’ll see how playing matchmaker goes…”

Wait PLEASE tell me more about singing backup choir for 3OH!3 that’s so cool?! (and agree, they do seem like great guys - lots of friends I have from Band World™️ have met them and said they’re lovely)
YESSS... Gather round, let me tell you the tale...
(Read more because it got long lol)
Ok so back in 2020 I was in a kinda relaxed comnunity choir in Denver, and March 3rd is often known unofficially as Denver or Colorado Day (because the date is 3/03, and the original Denver area code is 303). Anyway 3OH!3 was going to have a 303 Day concert, alongside Lil Jon and Breathe Carolina.
So 3OH!3 heard about the choir I was in and reached out to our director to see if we could do choral backup vocals, and she said yes. Our choir has like 100+ people by that time and we only needed like 20, so at our next rehearsal she announced the opportunity and said that you could enter your name into a drawing to be part of the group that would sing. Majority of the members were in their 20s and early 30s, so needless to say, we were familiar with 3OH!3 and very excited. I entered my name in, and was randomly selected!
3OH!3 created some arrangements for us of DONTTRUSTME and My Dick (yes, that song). Mainly we'd be singing with the synths etc in the background, and especially during the instrumental only part of the full, non radio version of DONTTRUSTME.
The subset of the choir met up a few days before the show to rehearse. Next day was another rehearsal and Sean and Nat were there to rehearse with us (and also record us to overdub our vocals if needed... we'd only have a few mics to pick us all up, plus no IEMs, just regular monitors, so there was a risk of either us screwing up due to us just being a bunch of choir nerds and not professional backup singers or the sound not picking up well). They were really great dudes, very down to earth and kind and gracious. You could tell they were smart guys and genuinely talented.
And that brings us to the actual show! It was at the Mission Ballroom, and us choir members checked in for soundcheck and got our VIP full access passes etc, then we rehearsed once more. We decided to do a "traditional" line up and file in entrance to the stage, where we had some risers to stand on. Partially to play up the "wtf why is a choir singing backup vocals for songs containing the lines 'do the Hellen Keller and talk with your hips' and 'everytime I look at my dick I'm like holy shit that's a huge dick'" factor, but mainly because that's the most efficient way for us to get on stage and all stay in vocal part order lol.
We didn't have a dressing room per se, but we were assigned the VIP room backstage as our dressing room. We hung out and watched the show via a big TV, and occasionally some of us went out to the VIP area or side stage to watch in person. We did some warmups before we went out, and we knew our starting note was a G, so a bunch of us launched into a quick singalong of Welcome to the Black Parade before actually warming up lmaooo.
The first song we sang was My Dick, and we lined up backstage, filed out onto our risers, got our starting note from our leader, and started singing. The audience went INSANE over this, it was incredible (and hilarious). Please imagine about 5 basses/tenors and 5 altos chorally bragging about dick sizes. Completely incredible. We were getting a little off tempo because none of us could hear anything, so the drummer very quietly played the kick drum in time to the click track for us lol.
After the song we filed back out, and a couple songs later came back out for DONTTRUSTME which was the last song. We stayed up there while they bowed and said their thanks etc and they also hyped up the crowd for us too and had us bow. So much fun. The place was absolutely PACKED and I was a bit nervous at first that we'd mess up or people would find it weird, but instead it went over very well, and I was so so happy.
It was probably one of the best days of my life, and it was a very cherished memory to think about especially because choir rehearsals got canceled for about a year just 5 days later due to the pandemic 😭
But yeah! That's the story of the time I sang backup choir for 3OH!3!
Tumblr media
(I'm the second person from the right)
Bonus odd stories from that night:
Sometime before we sang, one of the guys from our choir needed to go to the bathroom, and the bathroom was the performers' bathroom backstage. Apparently it was very clean with a shower and all sorts of hygiene products. The guy for some reason took a tampon that was stocked in that bathroom as a souvenir, because why not. At some point, some random drunk lady came wandering into our room and was like "hi! You know Breathe Carolina? I'm one of their moms!" And we were like "ok cool!" And then the aforementioned guy was like "hey will you sign this tampon?" And she did?? Fucking hilarious.
When the show was over, we went back to our room to pack up and head out, and briefly after that when only a few of us were left, Lil Jon and a few of his buddies(?) found out room and was like "Woah! A PINBALL machine!" The pinball machine was broken, which one of us mentioned, and he was like "That's STUPID!" and left. Absolutely bizarre experience.
I'm not in that choir anymore, mainly due to me moving away from Denver, but that was seriously one of the best times of my life.

My top 5 ESC 2023 that nobody asked about
I specifically checked out live performances for the sound and onstage charisma as well, cos pre-recorded music videos don't mean shit in the end. Here we go.
In summary:
Tumblr media
1. Australia
youtube
FUCK YES!!!! That's what I'm talking about! THIS IS FUCKING BATTLE MUSIC!! THAT FUCKING BRIDGE! RRRHHHAAAAAAAA ROCK'N'ROLL BABIES! Also can we have fucking Australia finally win Eurovision cos that would be hilarious. Also I'm checking out their other songs bc they've been around for a while and they are great?!! I need to listen to the entire discography immediately. My god this is why I fucking LOVE Eurovision, I love discovering bands I never would've heard about otherwise.
2. Norway
youtube
FUCK. YES. Glorius. Amazing. This got stuck in my head from the first few notes. I love her voice, I love the sound, it makes me wanna sing along and bang my fists on the table to the beat, she's got RANGE, she sounds fantastic live, it's a fucking hit to me. SLAY, QUEEN.
3. Moldova
youtube
This is giving me such Zdob și Zdub vibes. I fucking love the modern folky sound, and the harmony with the back vocals is fucking perfect (in live performance as well), and a fucking feral forest rave?! God yesss. Also sorry but the dude is… HIT ME WITH A TRUCK GORGEOUS GODDAMMIT I am fucking WEAK for a manbun so sue me. PS: apparently he already entered back in 2012 but that song was a bit meh tbh. This one? FUCKING GREAT.
4. Italy
youtube
A pretty pretty pretty Italian man with a pretty pretty PRETTY voice is singing in Italian. That's enough, I'm sold, I'm a shallow ho like that, I'm taking off my clothes. I mean. I'm listening, and being very normal.
5. Germany
youtube
Look I'm too queer not to pick this. The whole blood and glitter vibe made me laugh so hard, dude's voice is very pleasant and the song smashes. It's only #5 for me bc the live national performance was a bit underwhelming? Hopefully it improves by the finals because it has the potential to be fucking epic. I mean.
Tumblr media
I also really like Azerbaijan, Israel and Ireland. Not enough to rave about them but I'll be cheering for them.

Heyy, do you have like any sort of guide for people (like me) who is starting to stan Ghost? Thank you <3
First of all, welcome welcome! You surely are in for a ride! Sadly the only guide I have made is of the era 4 ghouls that's pinned on my blog page BUT I guess I could do a quick little Beginner's Guide to Ghost. I don't know how much you've already researched so I'll treat this as an absolute beginner's guide. Also I'm writing this on the app so beat me in the town square for the formatting.
This is Ghost
Tumblr media
Well actually that's a Swedish dude named Tobias Forge BUT he runs this whole band...project? thingy? Makes the songs, plays instruments on the albums et cetera et cetera. He also has a lovely wife and kids so keep your horny at bay, my wrist slapping hand is ready to strike. Oh yeah and he's the one playing all the papas (the skull daddies who do the singing) except Papa Nihil. Speaking of...
Papas???
Tumblr media
THESE are the skull daddies I spoke of earlier, known as Papa Emeritus I, II, III and IV. Every album has given us a new papa... kind of. When Prequelle (4th album) came out we got a dude who looked like a rat and was named Cardinal Copia, also known as just Copia or Cardi C. However, during the last day of the tour A Pale Tour Named Death (APTND) Copia got turned into a Papa Emeritus because he had done such a good job! And now he's also called Popia for shits and giggles. Oh also they fucking murked papas I-III to show them off in glass cases for the VIP ticket holders because I guess that's what one does when touring America. But guess what else you need on tour?
GHOULS!
Tumblr media
These are the Nameless Ghouls! They don't have official names but the fans have given them nicknames to tell them easier apart. They do the playing and backup vocals on tours. They do not play on the albums. They're paid to play their instruments on tours. They get new fits every tour. The rule of ghoul outfit is 1. Mask that you can't easily see out of and 2. If you don't feel like you are in hell when you're playing outside on a festival in +30°C heat (that's fucking hot Fahrenheits) or look like the KKK (disclaimer: they're not the KKK I swear they just made some questionable choices in festival gear back in the days long ago you can lower your pitchforks) on first glance it's not a ghoul outfit.
Now you might have yelpped out loud "Oh my lord Jesus Christ there's a lot of them!" or some variation of that and you don't know just how right you are! Ghost has had a looooooooooooot of ghouls during the years. Some have stayed a short while, some longer. There was a big drama some years ago when some of the then current ghouls went "this is bs Tobias is keeping all the money to himself" and Tobias said "no that's incorrect" and the ghouls left and there was a lawsuit that Tobias won. After that we got our current lineup of ghouls minus one ghoulette that joined this year. I mean a couple of the current ghouls played in the 3rd era lineup as well. ANYWAY the tl;dr of ghoul history is there have been many, there was a bit of a shit storm, but we good now.
I think that's the basics. Go watch the Chapter videos on Ghost's YT for silly lore and you'll meet Sister Imperator and Papa Nihil as well!

ALWAYS, ok just a fun little question, I need to know why you’re so drawn to Eddie, JUST GO HAM AND GUSH ABOUT IT BABE
Boy am I glad I fixed (i think) the read more thing because I’ll give you everything I got:
I gotta start this off by saying i had no intentions and no interest in watching stranger things 4 when it premiered. The wait between season 3 and 4 was pretty long, especially because of covid and while i had attempted to keep the interest up, there wasn’t a whole lot of the fandom active until a little before st4 dropped, but the last time i was here, it was dead as hell. And so i left, not ever expecting to come back. then one day, after st4 had started streaming i was just scrolling through twitter and i saw a picture of Eddie. He piqued my interest immediately, the only thing i could equate it to is like when you were in high school, catching sight of someone you never really noticed before and being completely smitten at first sight. I wanted to know more about him, needed to. So i finally started the new season.
One thing that’s important to know before i detail exactly why i became so interested in Eddie is a little background information that i wont go too deep into detail about, but i lost my dad in early 2021. We were very close, he also liked Stranger Things (both of my parents did but we’re not gonna talk about my mom’s favs rn) and our bond only deepened during my late teenage years because of how into 70s and 80s music i was (am, but you’d think I was a 70s girl if you saw me)—like everyone else who was a teenager through st1-3, IT, and watched all the 80s tv shows that aired on like nick at night, tbs, tvland, etc.—and those were my dad’s golden years, he’d been in several bands and a DJ. He played the guitar (left me with so many guitars and a ton of amps) and he could absolutely SHRED it. He appreciated all genres—really, he just loved any song with a good guitar solo—but he loved rock and heavy metal, for obvious reasons (the guitar shredding). He was definitely a metal head, though he didn’t look the part (he’s black, heavily resembled Wesley Snipes especially back then, and you wont ever see a whole lot of aesthetics of black metal heads of the 80s for obvious reasons, and he was rocking the jerry curl lol, but it was a mullet). He was a pretty intimidating looking dude, that never stopped him from singing along to R5 with me and the Jonas brothers, one direction, Kelly clarkson, he’d encourage my love for music in whatever form/genre I liked. He got so excited when I also finally started appreciating the same type of music he did, but that wasn’t til around 2 or 3 years before he passed. And then when he did, i didn’t have any to talk to about it.
And here came Eddie, to the rescue (he and the rest of the Hawkins gang also popped up when I was being iced out of my only friend group at the time and I was really depressed). I liked Eddie, not only because I was INSTANTLY attracted to him, I also liked his style, I liked his hair, his pretty brown eyes (what they do to me should be illegal), how adaptable he was (stern when the hellfire boys needed it, gentle around people he could tell were shaken) and how he encouraged people to maintain their individuality (namely Dustin, while Eddie was really hot in the cafeteria scene, I wasn’t too fond of how he was ragging on people for what they liked, because they weren’t like him—when they weren’t even harassing or bothering him and I didn’t care for how he was unwilling to see Lucas—one of his little sheepies who was finding his way—play in one of the most important games to him but we got more Erica out of it so I’ll forgive him). His voice is also surprisingly comforting to me, I can’t explain why. AND HIS THEATRICS! My god, I could imagine watching him goof around, letting himself collapse onto the floor because of trivial things and just being dramatic and funny, all day long. The best part about him, is that he’s the most real feeling boy out of the “core three” (Steve, Jonathan and Eddie, I don’t count Billy for me because I don’t like him for obvious reasons) to me. See, I’ve been interested in all three of those boys. Jonathan first, then Steve (and still kind of) but my loyalty is to Eddie. Jonathan was first because it was Jonathan VS Steve, you know? The quiet underdog from the wrong side of the tracks, the good boy. it’s a character trope but a good one. And then Steve, former mean rich boy with a heart of gold. Another excellent character trope. Both of those boys are picture perfect Teenage Dreams. Then you have Eddie, who—I can’t explain how I know, I just do—would bark at someone who was bothering him until they were freaked out enough to go away. He’s considered trailer trash, a metal head with messy hair who deals drugs, becomes a friend to freshmen who no one else wants to associate with, starts arguments with the ‘popular’ crowd—that boy is NOT a victim, if Chrissy hadn’t died in that trailer he would have been harassing Jason and his crew more than the other way around lol—talks in weird voices, has weird gimmicks all while comforting sad girls, being chivalrous enough to help them into boats and holding Robin during the quakes in the Upside Down. In my opinion he’s far from a bad boy and difficult to stick into one character trope box. And out of all the boys, he’s the most realistic Teenage Dream. He’s one of a kind but it also feels like I could find him somewhere out in the world.
But my favorite thing about Eddie is the fact that I know I’d be gushing all about my love for him to my dad if he were alive. And my dad wouldn’t mind because he’d be his favorite character, too, with all of their shared interests and how Eddie is kind of the epitome for the crowd he used to be a part of. Sometimes, I entertain the idea it’d feel an awful lot like telling my dad about a boyfriend and him finally like him, my dad hated all my boyfriends and refused to let me tell him ANYTHING about them. Like everyone else who loves Eddie, I wish he was real, but mostly for that reason. Honestly, I’d barely be able to be friends with Eddie. My crush on him would be way too intense for me to like operate as a normal human being around him and with him, I can tell I’d regress to my high school self and love/admire from afar because of my shyness. Those high school crushes were pretty magical for me, though nothing ever came from them (I didn’t start my maneater ways until after high school when I got hot and started doing drugs) and yeah, that’s the type of teenage dream he is for me. My love for him is intense enough to have me not only reading fanfiction—which isn’t all that surprising because I’ve been doing it since elementary school—but freaking WRITING it!!! I can count the amount of times I’d done so in the past on one hand (most of which I deleted a long ass time ago) and still have fingers available. Now, i can’t stop. I just can’t. And it’s all because of him. Everything i write is like my way of writing a love letter to Eddie. Even if I did stop writing, I wouldn’t ever stop being drawn to him.
So, all of that is why I’m so drawn to him, why I really do love him, and why I don’t think I’ll ever be able to let him go. And you might notice a lot of that also reflects in my writing.

Darren Criss Brings 'Crissmas' Cheer To iHeartLand In Dazzling Holiday Show
Tumblr media
Darren Criss kicked off the holiday season with a very special performance at State Farm Park in iHeartLand. On Friday, November 25th, fans in Fortnite and on Roblox gathered to see the former Glee star hit the State Farm Park stage with new music from his album A Very Darren Crissmas. The joyous event was hosted by iHeartRadio's EJ and fans on Roblox had the opportunity to head backstage at State Farm Park after the show for a Q&A where the two talked about all things music and holidays.
The multi-talented Criss started off his holiday set on Roblox with his version of the 1942 holiday classic "Happy Holidays/The Holiday Season" surrounded by light-up trees and a screen showing dazzling visuals of sparkling lights. Criss was accompanied by a talented bunch of musicians including background singers and a brass section to bring his renditions of holiday favorites to life. For his next tune, Darren described it as "a whacky little novelty song from the 1950s sung by a 10-year-old girl." He continued, "So, I figured, why not, as a dude in his 30s, do a hip-hop version of it?" He went on to sing a vibe-y version of Gayla Peevy's "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas."
Tumblr media
Those watching the show in Fornite had the opportunity to win iHeartLand gold by playing "How Fan Are You?" which asked multiple-choice trivia questions about the show and the hosts. Soft piano chords introduced Criss' next song, "All Those Christmas Cliches," originally recorded by Nancy LaMott. Criss went on to sing what he called, "one of the most popular Christmas songs of all time." He was of course talking about "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)" by Nat King Cole. Darren delicately vocalized while the trumpet player gave a stunning solo.
Tumblr media
As snow quietly fell over iHeartLand on Roblox, he grabbed his guitar and picked up the tempo to play one of his album's original holiday tracks "Christmas Dance," which included a nod to the unofficial official Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey. After the infectious tune came to an end, Darren walked over to sit at the piano and addressed everyone in the metaverse. While he mentioned his next song wasn't actually a holiday song, he did believe its sentiment was "something we always need to remember" during the holiday season. He then launched into the song "Not Alone," from his 2010 EP Human.
Remaining at the piano, Criss and his band took Fornite all the way back to 2004 with a cover of Keane's emotional hit "Somewhere Only We Know." Darren left the piano and returned to the mic to sing a song about "resilience and always looking ahead and being grateful for the things you have." He went on to sing Regina Spektor's 2016 song "New Year."
Tumblr media
Taking off his jacket, Criss stayed on the theme of non-holiday songs and told his fans on Roblox, "This next song is about celebrating the things you love with the people you love and while it's not necessarily a holiday song, I feel like that's part of the holiday spirit." Darren and his band launched into his original song "For A Night Like This" from his 2021 EP Masquerade. The joyful track turned out to be the final song of his set and as the band played him out, Criss closed out the show by telling the audience, "We hope your holidays are warm and bright where ever you are in the metaverse and the real-verse. We hope you're with people that you love and that love you."
If you missed the show or just want to relive the holiday cheer, the event will be available in iHeartLand at State Farm Park through November 27th.
And don't forget to catch Darren Criss during his guest appearance on iHeartLand's special holiday episode of "And That's What You Really Missed." He'll join hosts Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz to share their favorite holiday memories from Glee and sing songs on Thursday, December 8th at 7p ET / 4p PT in iHeartLand in Fortnite and on Roblox.

A/N: these are songs I am still jamming out to considering even though my ex left me last year, they didn't fully leave my life until earlier this year. So I guess this is a comfort/coping thing for myself. everything is under the cut. <3 P.S. You guys are room mates & a break bc i have a honey nut feelio that this is the only way would work. P.P.S. YOU HAVE TO PRY ME CALLING PRICE "PEEPAW" FROM MY TINY, COLD RACCOON HANDS. characters might be a tiny bit outta character, I am still trying to get a hang of writing them so be gentle. <3
Tumblr media
John Price ⇒ I Don't Love You Anymore by My Chemical Romance
Sometimes I cry so hard from pleading So sick and tired of all the needless beating But baby when they knock you Down and out It's where you oughta stay
Damn it, you concerned Peepaw. You let your inner emo out for the first time in years and it's My Chemical Romance he hears. He was there when you woke up to the message from your ex-fiancé, and he was sitting with you as you cried and tried to plead with him to stay with you. The urge to get a ticket and fly over to America to personally kick this dude's ass was now stronger than ever considering you are now crying and singing along to My Chemical Romance of all bands.
Tumblr media
Simon "Ghost" Riley ⇒ Losin' Control by Russ
She's falling but she doesn't think he'll catch her 'Cause her last relationship was a disaster Accusations everyday she didn't know why All her calls would be ignored he's on his own time Shoulda' ended it before it started All she ever got was broken hearted He was cheating on her tryna' flip it
The breakup wasn't recent, but he understood you were going through some pretty emotional shit, considering you got your very own "Dear John" letter while TF141 was deployed. He heard you talk about your significant other and as things were getting close for the teams' leave, you were counting down the days until you were homeward bound. That is until the letter arrived. It was awkward at first, but Ghost offered to let you move into his flat with him and that's how he heard this song. He knew you were okay, you just had to get your feelings out, even if it meant laying curled up and listening to sad songs, by the way, if the took the time to look up the lyrics, he'd realize it's how you feel about him but nope, not even after the 7th time he hears it.
Tumblr media
Johnny "Soap" MacTavish ⇒ Josslyn by Olivia O'Brien
But know we're off and we'll never be on again I hope that it was worth it, fucking Josslyn Don't wanna fight, I just never wanna talk again I hope that it was worth it, fucking Josslyn I know we weren't together but we're more than friends Said you couldn't see me while she gave you head So please, don't ever call again I hope that it was worth it, fucking Josslyn Yeah, I hope that it was worth it
He totally joined in you singing and dancing around. You were having a self care day after you had learned someone you were exclusive with was seeing other people behind your back. With some convincing, he did also end up joining you with a face mask, snacks, and your favorite movies that weren't romance related.
Tumblr media
Kyle "Gaz" Garrick ⇒ For The Record by xoxomyah
Oh God, losing him was my greatest fear My mind spun in circles until I'd hear Your lies, that you'd love me for all your years That you'd love me for all your years Now all I want is money, my dear
He just stood at your door way, watching with concern. He didn't know what to do, but he did stay on standby in case you did need him for something. He wanted to comfort you but, he also knew people needed their space when it came to these things, and you had expressed you were fine before you had
Tumblr media
König ⇒ Kill Bill by SZA
I might kill my ex, not the best idea His new girlfriend's next, how'd I get here? I might kill my ex, I still love him though Rather be in jail than alone
He just let you be in your feelings. Besides, he would end up doing the dirty work. Not because you asked him to, but shit from meeting the guy once he wanted to kill him just for hurting you to the point you thought about killing your ex and a future hypothetical lover.
Tumblr media
Keegan P. Russ ⇒ Just Pretend (A Cappella) by Bad Omens
I can wait for you at the bottom I can stay away if you want me to I could wait four years if I gotta Heaven knows I ain't getting over you
"Really? Bad Omens again?" Keegan would question as he sat down in front of you - you were laying in bed, holding your exes hoodie and softly singing the song to yourself. It'd been a few days since your ex left. When he noticed you weren't going to respond, he let out a little sigh before grabbing the phone. "C'mon, bub, lets get you something to eat."
