there's this one vid on mark's channel where he, ethan, and this guy named tyler have a gingerbread house contest. Tyler makes an actually decent gingerbread house while mark and ethan fail to have theirs stand up. So they work together and somehow end up with a gingerbread house that is COMPLETELY CRUSHED. they manage to just add a lump of frosting and some sprinkles and are like "it's like chips and dip!!!" and then when the judges come over, they take turns explaining it, word by word, and say something like "our gingerbread house is better than tyler's because it's made with love" and then they hug. they end up tying with tyler somehow. i can also talk about the one high-production youtube channel they made but i feel that this drives the point better.

I think I’m a day or so late (I dunno, time zones are funky) but happy third Deathanniversary Unus Annus!!!!

I think I speak for everyone when I say Unus Annus changed my life in a way I honestly can’t properly describe. I met people I am still incredibly close with, I met my irl partner, I grew and I changed as a person alongside the channel, I realised I was trans- etc etc etc.

But unlike for some people, Unus Annus’ anniversary has never been happy for me. Right after Unus Annus ended, my Nanna’s pet cat Nigel passed away. For the first anniversary, my chicken who I loved like all hell Illinois passed away, the second my rabbit Frodo passed away and now this year, my childhood dog Hudson passed away.

I don’t remember life without Hudson. He was my best friend and was there with me through every single tiny hard time and milestone. His death wasn’t pretty either; he slowly mentally deteriorated to the point where putting him down would be kinder. So as you can imagine, his death hit me hard. Harder than any other pet ever has.

Not to mention, just a couple days ago, my parents announced they were splitting up- Thats been REAL hard. So in summary, the Unus Annus anniversary has never been GREAT for me. It honestly sometimes feels like a lil bit of a curse.

But I can’t thank Ethan and Mark for making Unus Annus in the first place. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without it and Like I said; I wouldn’t trade the life experiences or the friends or the amazing community for anything in the entire universe. I don’t believe in the supernatural, so I’m sure all my pets deaths are just coincidences;

But I just hope that Hudson ESPECIALLY is somewhere out there frolicking and finally being able to run after so long. I wish I could’ve had more time with him- I wish I could’ve shown him my funky new resident evil hyperfixation and I wish I could’ve gone on one last run with him. But just like Unus Annus always said, we don’t get to pick when death comes. So in a way, Unus Annus has been a cathartic and nostalgic memory for me.

Hudson is the best dog in the entire world. I could talk for hours about all his little quirks and all the funny stories he had. He was my shaggy waggy tail doggy all the way until the end.

Rest in Peace Mr. Hudson. I Hope You’re able to run without being in pain wherever you are now. Memento Mori, Unus Annus.

I remember the day it ended. I was sitting in class, the last one of the day, waiting for it to end so I could watch the livestream. I was only able to watch the very beginning and had to wait until late at night to continue watching. I missed a good 8 hours of the video and I regret every second. But I was able to watch the last 4 hours, I loved every minute. I really only remember a little bit. The parts where they watched some tribute videos and when Mark gave Amy the bug watch. I stayed until the screen went black, missing it already, wishing there was more.

Over the 3 years I have learned not to mourn its loss but to be thankful that I got to experience what I did. Thank you Unus Annus for letting me live when everything seemed lost.

(sorry if its jumbled, it’s hard to put it all into words.) i can’t say it’s all been bad, but it’s certainly been hard. to my friends & family who I love, thank you for being here & continuing to be here. to unus annus, thank you for helping me grieve. i also just wanted to say that life isn’t perfect. as much as i do my hardest to stay positive and keep any negativity off my socials & what i present to you all in general- i just really want you to know that you’re not alone in your feelings.  i hope you’re all doing okay today, and if not, i understand. we’ll get there.

My favorite vid was 1 man 100 accents, which did okay at first but got nowhere near the finals. But I love it because I think it really captured the true spirit of Unus Annus, which was just sitting down and creating something. And that's really what Unus Annus was about.

Ah, yes. I do think that's a lovely way of putting it; just sitting down and creating something. I think part of the appeal of Unus Annus, at least to me, was how replicable it was. Perhaps that's not the right word... but, well, it was all things that people could, realistically, do.

Perhaps some things were a little more extreme and/or location limited, and of course, some they musically encouraged us to not try ourselves at home, but doing silly accents, visiting an escape room, playing operation with baby hands... how many of these videos truly boiled down to just having fun with a friend? And maybe their dogs, too.

If you knew you had one year, why not spend it with a friend having a good time? If we are to truly live life to the fullest, we don't have to spend large amounts of money or do something rather extreme or impossible for someone with less resources than them. We simply must enjoy it with what we have. Fun can be made with anything, be that duct tape, blind bag slime toys, or strange websites.

Speaking of which, I do remember one person in my notes saying something to the effect of the quarantine era being a low point in Unus Annus... I'm not sure I agree. Sure, taste is subjective, of course, but I didn't think Mark and Ethan had to do something incredibly wild in order to be entertaining. It was rather grounding, I think. A nice intermission.

And well, that clip of Ethan lip syncing Lose Yourself with the baby hands will forever live in my mind...

On twitch I mostly do minecraft and geoguessr content, though I recently got an actual PC so I’ll be expanding into more games soon, and I also do my homestuck read through with my friend there. I actually am doing lore on my personal Minecraft SMP featuring a ton of people trying to get to the end tomorrow at 2:30 pm PST

On YouTube I mostly post animatics, including the one I made back in November for two years of unus annus, It’s All So Incredibly Loud. My goal is (once I can my friend to agree on which one /teasing) is to do another bootus annus/unus annus recreation soon as well!
