No More Second Chances: Chapter One
So I accidently delete this earlier and had a mini stress attack. So here it is back again. I hope you enjoy.
Master: Master List
No More Second Chances: Master List
-------------------
Marinette loved her family, but they didn’t believe her. They thought she was everything that her classmates said she was. One day she came home to Alya and Lila talking to her parents, Lila was crying.
“I can’t believe you, I can’t believe myself! How could I raise someone who can be so heartless,” Sabine said, rubbing the tears from her eyes.
“Mama I didn’t do it!” Marinette defended.
“Don’t raise your voice at your mother, go to your room. I- We can’t even look at you,” Tom said, pointing at the door leading to the kitchen and upstairs.
“Let me explain though!”
“No, now go,” Sabine said, letting herself be enveloped in her husband’s supportive hug.
“I-” Marinette tries.
“Go! Now!” Tom says, rubbing Sabine’s shoulder. Marinette plopped down on her bed in tears, she’s so happy that Hawkmoth had been defeated or she wouldn’t be able to fight off the akuma. She was now the guardian and was solely in charge of the miraculous. Adrien, her best friend, and partner had been taken into the care of his aunt after Gabriel was revealed as Hawkmoth, leaving Marinette alone to suffer with the class. With no one to stand with her, the class became unbearable.
“Marinette, we are going to sign you up for the exchange program,” Sabine said sternly.
“Why can’t you understand that I didn’t do it? If you don’t believe me, fine, I’ll leave. There’s nothing here for me. My parents don't care and believe me. My classmates wish I was dead, most of them telling me to kill myself, which I have thought about but you wouldn’t that because you gave me so much freedom that it was borderline neglect. But ya know what? it’s fine, might as well lose my home along with the people I used to care about, Tikki let’s go pack!” Marinette screamed, Tikki flying over to comfort the girl.
“It’s ok Mari, I’ll still be with you,” Tikki said, nuzzling her head.
“Marinette, what is that?” Tom asks.
“You mean who! This is Tikki, the only person that cares about me,” Marinette says.
“I’m her kwami, I give her the power to be Ladybug,” Tikki explains.
“I guess if you can’t trust your daughter then you can’t trust Ladybug, the hero of Paris,” Marinette said, pulling her suitcase out of the closet. “When do I leave?” She asks through gritted teeth.
“Well, we started planning this a while ago so Monday,” Sabine cries. “But honey you don’t have to go! Stay here!”
“What were you going to wait till Sunday to tell me? That’s great. Well, I guess I don’t want to be a bother anymore, so you can leave,” Marinette said, grabbing clothes from her draw.
“I’m sorry Honey, please forgive me. You don’t have to leave I trust you,” Sabine pleads.
“Nope, if you can’t trust me, how can you trust Ladybug,” Marinette asks, toiletries from her bathroom. “You don’t care about me, that's all I need to leave. I’ll be back when I graduate to get the rest of my stuff. Then you’ll never see me again, just as you wanted.”
“No, sweetie you can stay with us we love you, we want you around,” Tom said.
“Night, I’m going out, not like you would care or notice,” Marinette said. “Tikki, Spots on.” She said, transforming. “Shut off the light as you leave.”
“Marinette we need to talk about this!” Sabine said, trying to follow her up to the balcony.
“Bye, Sabine, Tom,” Ladybug said, jumping off the balcony. She sat on a roof and cried. She pulled out her phone and tried to compose herself. “A- Adr- Adrien, can I come to visit you tomorrow, well stay at your place till Sunday night?” Ladybug sniffles.
“What happened, Buginette?”
“Sabine and Tom are sending me away because Lila’s lies got to them, I revealed myself as Ladybug to them during my emotional spiel and they want me to stay because of it, but I can’t stay knowing that they don’t trust me, without the knowledge of me being Ladybug,” Ladybug explained, full-on tears rolling down her face.
“Ok that’s a lot, I’ll ask my aunt, I’m pretty sure she’ll say yes, though,” Adrien said. “Breathe with me ok” After she’s calm, she hangs up and grabs her stuff. She leaves her par-- Sabine and Tom a note.
‘Sabine, Tom,
I’m leaving but I’ll be home Sunday night. I will not speak to you, I just need you there so I can leave. Then you’ll see me once after I graduate to get the rest of my stuff. If you seek me out, I will not speak to you then. You’ve destroyed any chance you had at being in my life. For now, this is farewell. My decision won’t change.
- Marinette Jiayang Fu’
As Marinette got off the train, Sabine and Tom read her letter. They cried, not only had they driven their only daughter out of their home, they drove Ladybug out of Paris. She was so detached from them, because of them, she changed her last name. They mourned over their daughter and their mistakes.
“Adrien! I haven’t seen you in forever!” Marinette runs up and hugs him. He decided to meet her at the train station with Gorilla, Adrien convinced his aunt to keep Gorilla as his driver. He was happy to have a familiar face in London.
“How are you doing?”
“I feel free? I guess being away from Paris is like a weight being lifted off of me,” Marinette sighed as she put her duffel in the trunk.
“Finally what took you so long?” a grumpy voice said as she opened the door.
“Sorry Marinette, I forgot to mention, we have to drop Felix off for a meeting before we head back home, ok?” Adrien said, closing the door.
“Of course. How have you been Felix? I haven’t seen you since you came to visit Adrien,” Marinette smiled.
“Fine,” he responds, before opening a manilla envelope.
“Are you taking over your father’s business?” Marinette asks.
“Why does it matter?”
“Well if you are and it makes you happy, I’m happy for you,” Marinette smiled.
“What?” Felix asks looking up from his folder.
“I’m happy for you?” Marinette says, confused.
“Marinette, Felix may be a bit confused because you guys didn’t end on the best note,” Adrien explained.
“That’s all in the past,” Marinette said.
“Oh… um, thank you,” Felix says, looking back down at the papers.
“Don’t mention it,” Marinette said, looking out the window. Gorilla growls, prompting Felix to get out of the car. After Felix enters the building, Gorilla drives off back to the house.
“Aunt, I don’t know if you met my friend Marinette, but she’s here and she’s very nice,” Adrien greets, opening the door.
“Sorry Madame, I just couldn’t stay with my parents, but I’ll be gone Sunday afternoon. My parents are sending me to the states,” Marinette explained.
“I’ll show you to our guest room, Honey,” Amelie said, walking up the stairs. “Brunch will be soon.”
“Ok Ma’am,” Marinette said, opening the door.
“Nope, no ma’am, call me aunt. Adrien talks so much about you,” She smiles. “Get settled in and join us downstairs.”
“Ok, Aunt I’ll see you soon then,” Marinette giggles, closing the door before plopping down on the bed with a sigh she states. “This has been such a long day.”
“It’s only ten o’clock,” Tikki laughs.
“I know but I’ve been up all night,” Marinette complained, flipping to lay face down on the bed.
“I bet they’ll have coffee downstairs,” Tikki said, that was all Marinette needed to be motivated to go downstairs. After a lovely brunch, which included coffee, Adrien and Marinette decided to go to the tourist sights. Later, Adrien would post selfies among other pictures of them together. When she went to bed that night, she passed out.
Marinette woke up early the next morning, being a baker’s daughter and all. The only person awake was Felix, who was sipping tea and looking over his tablet. “Good morning Felix,” Marinette said, brewing a cup of coffee.
“Good morning, how long are you staying for?” He responded, looking up from his tablet.
“I’m going to leave after dinner, I’m catching a train back to Paris, because apparently, I have an early flight,” Marinette sighs.
“Very well,” Felix said, standing. He walks over to the sink and places his teacup in it. “Well, if I don't see you before you leave, have a lovely flight.”
“Thank you, Felix,” Marinette says as he leaves the room. Sunday flew by fast and soon Marinette and Adrien stood back on the train station platform. They hug good-bye with promises to talk soon. As she sat down on the near-empty train she sighed thinking of the journey ahead. When she got close to her house, she transformed into Ladybug and climbed in through the balcony hatch. She showered and went to bed.
When she woke up the next morning, she was met with the smiling faces of Tom and Sabine. She got up, brushed them, grabbed her suitcase, and headed downstairs.
“Please Marinette, reconsider, we’ll stand with you,” Sabine pleads.
She shakes her head and exits, she sits in the car and Sabine and Tom reluctantly get in. “I’m sorry that it came to this,” Tom said, starting the car, his eyes were red and puffy. On the way to the airport, they tried to convince her to stay, even when she was waiting to board her plane, they were still there pleading with her to forgive them. As her flight was called, they didn't hold back their tears.
“May we please have one more hug before we don’t see you again?” they plead, grabbing her hand. Now, Marinette may not be happy, she may be downright pissed at them, but she was not cold.
She nodded her head and they enveloped her in a big wet, tear-filled hug. She broke away, leaving them together to board the plane. She never looked back.
She realized as she sat down as she was looking through her carry on for her sketchbook, they had left something in there for her. It was information about her host family, an apology letter she couldn’t be bothered to read. She now knew who she was supposed to be looking for when she landed. She spent the rest of the trip sketching in her sketchbook, watching Friends, and sleeping.
When the plane landed, she got off the plane and got her luggage. She entered the main area of the airport, where three people with a sign stood. She smiled and walked towards the group. “Hello, are you Marinette?”

College Françoise Dupont’s talent show [5/5]

Warning: suicide mention at the final
@ozmav @maribat-archive
Damian was not one bit happy with the wistful eyes of Adrien for Marinette.
Since the confrontation with the class, Wayne noticed that the blonde did not take the eyes of his bride. Perhaps he was not even blinking. He could barely see the boy breathing!
“Damian, control your temper.” Tim nudged him. “Looks like you’re going to jump the golden boy’s neck anytime.”
They were sitting in the auditorium, lights on, people searching their seats. The whole family sitting in the third row of the main set of chairs, occupying the entire row.
The order being from the far left starting with Alfred, Bruce, Dick, Kori, Jason, Tim, Damian, Sabine, Tom, Chloe, Kagami, Allan, Allegra and Claude.
Jagged and Penny had been taken into the cabin, accompanied by Chloe’s parents and Kagami’s mother.
Adrien and the rest of the class, sitting in the second row. The blonde standing right in front of him, not disguising the fact that he was facing Marinette, who was on stage talking quietly with Felix and the director.
“If he doesn’t stop eating her with his eyes, I’ll…” and clenched his fist, imagining Agreste’s head in the middle of it.
Sabine, who had heard the exchange, laughed softly. Her son-in-law was so cute.
“Honey, it’s like we say: they may look, but they can’t have it,” she says, her hand on Damian’s fist. “My daughter looks beautiful. If no one looked at her twice, I would have been offended on her behalf.”
He bites his lip in conflict, but seems to decide that his mother-in-law was right and looked away from the blonde, preferring the sight of his angel.
“Good evening everyone.” The director says in the microphone, Marinette and Felix at his right side, microphones in their hands. “Today we mark the end of the talent week and also the end of the semester.” He pauses with the sound of the applause “this week was indeed amazing. Many talents discovered; many laughs obtained. It was wonderful.“
The audience shouts in agreement. Damian frowns with the particularly high-pitched scream in his ear and glances quickly at Tim.
“Today, as you can see, I have two guests with me” the director says again “Marinette Dupain-Cheng-”
“Hello!” Marinette sings into the microphone, a sweet smile on her face.
“-And Felix Aguillard.” Felix bows to the audience “Our first graders of the year.” More applause.
At the sound of the applause, Damian was able to hear a loud "What ?!” coming from the row in front of him, but could not recognize the voice because of the noise.
“It’s been a year since they’ve been studying at both Dupont and a prestigious university.” General choke “Marinette at ESMOD and Felix at INSEAD-”
“WHAT?!” Lila shouts in surprise, cutting off the director. She sits up quickly when she realizes that she has lost control in front of everyone. “Sorry, I was just surprised.”
Chloe scoffs before shouting to the stage “THAT’S MY GIRL!”
Marinette laughs “And Fe? He’s your boy too, isn’t he?” Teases into the microphone.
Felix looks at her, the pained expression on his face.
Chloe scowls at them and screams once again, “I’m sorry, but I’m SUPER GAY.” And the audience laughs out loud at the antics. The director looks unsure of what to do.
“Ahem,” he catches everyone’s attention, the laughter calming down. “Continuing what I was saying- Today marks their last high school day, so nothing fairer than them being our special guests of the night. The two will open for today’s participants, but they will not be part of the competition.” And ends, waving to the two talk something before they begin.
Felix shakes his head, saying he doesn’t want to say anything and follows him off the stage, but Marinette takes the lead, microphone tight in her hands.
“Good evening everyone.” She says, “Like Principal Damocles said, my name is Marinette. Marinette Dupain-Cheng and I want a little of your time.” Her eyes gauge each of the audience, not stopping at anyone for long.
“Today has been a particularly special day for me.” It starts “But I’ll start with last month. Last month I was able to go a step further in my career. I received an undeniable proposal and now my things must be arriving at Gotham, my old and new residence.” She notices some violent reactions in the ranks of her former class. Alya. “Today… today I was proposed by the man I love. Today I have friends supporting me, I have my family by my side, I’m having you all now.” Her slightly wet eyes, Damian notes, wanting more than anything to be by her side right now.
“But it wasn’t always like that.” His tone a little bitter. “There was a time, like, about three years ago, that I had people in my life that I thought were there to support me. To be my friends. To support me when I’m not well…” she sighs “But I was wrong. So wrong.”
“I came to such a low point, so dark, that time has stopped. Like this. I had lost my will, my motivation. I was alive but not living.” Sabine, who had been holding back tears, could no longer and cried silently “But hey! This is not a sad story. It’s not because I found good people. Great friends. A great boyfriend. It was not easy at first. There have been relapses. Days I wanted to do nothing more than sleep and sleep. But I did it.” She winked at Lila, who seemed to have eaten something bad.
“I’m reaching my goals. Saying goodbye to most of you, see you soon to others and a ‘I hope I never have to see you again’ for the ones left.” She says sweet, so sweet that her teeth hurt.
“It was thinking about this past, this dark spot of my life, that I wrote a song … Yeah! I know! You were expecting a fashion show, but here I am, ready to sing.” Jokes with the general surprise.
She looks at the side edge of the stage. Luka was waiting for the signal to be able to enter. She blinks at him and he smiles, the guitar positioned in his hands.
“To sing this song I would need support, so a friend volunteered for this role.” She turns to the audience. “Please, a round of applause for Luka Couffaine, my best friend.”
///
Alya was… She didn’t know how she was feeling at that moment.
She had stopped trying to understand what had been going on since Chloe had appeared with Kagami two nights ago to pick up Marinette at the theater.
That was so frustrating! How, when … The three had become friends. How Marintte could forgive Chloe. When Marinette had overcome her rivalries with Kagami.
Alya didn’t understand. Alya didn’t know.
Alya didn’t remember when it was the last time she’d talked to Marinette. Her best friend.
But she remembered the last time she’d screamed at the brunette about being mean. About how after so many years, she still hasn’t gotten over her jealousy of Lila. How Adrien would never love her if she continued this behavior.
She remembered the teary blueberries, the flushed cheeks (of shame or anger she didn’t know) and the weak voice asking to leave her alone.
But it wasn’t her fault! She just wanted the brunette to grow up, take her head off the Adrien world, and live. Give Lila a chance.
What did not happen. Marinette just walked away.
She would come to school, attend classes, and then disappear. No one knew where she was going at breaks. During classes, she hardly interacted with others.
Just Chloe.
And Alya still couldn’t understand. Didn’t understand what Marinette was saying on that stage. Didn’t know what she was talking about. She was trying. Really. But it was all in vain to see Luka Couffaine come on stage.
His slightly longer, unruly hair combed anyway, torn black jeans, shiny boots, and a black T-shirt under a mossy green leather jacket. A guitar in his arms.
His eyes wrapped in a thick layer of khol.
He bent slightly toward Marinette’s microphone, a polite smile on his lips.
“Good night, Dupont. I’m Luka and I’m here today to help Minette in one or two songs.” He says “God knows how bad she is with the guitar.” He laughs when Marinette jokes him playfully.
She takes his microphone and says again "I think we should start, what do you think ?!”
A projector screen descends behind them and they begin.
No, I think I’ll stay in tonight
Skip the conversations and the “Oh, I’m fines”
No, I’m no stranger to surprise
This paper town has let me down too many times
And, man. She was good.
Alya was surprised, scared even.
Why do I even try? Give me a reason why
I thought that I could trust you, never mind
Why all the switching sides? Where do I draw the line?
I guess I’m too naive to read the signs
Adrien shifted uncomfortably beside Nino. His gravelly face.
He was sure the music was for them, the class.
For him.
I’m just lookin’ for some real friends
The screen behind them began to pass photos.
Photos of Marinette that no one in the class had ever seen before.
All they ever do is let me down
Every time I let somebody in
The first photo to appear contained Luka and Marinette hugging each other. Her arms around his neck, their cheeks glued together and his arms around her waist.
The unknown background landscapes. The sun shining bright.
Luka was wearing only a black T-shirt, his hair a mess and the tongue sticking out. Marinette in a black cropped with blue accents, her hair in a bun, eyes closed and a huge smile.
She looked so happy.
Adrien cringed.
Then I find out what they’re all about
I’m just lookin’ for some real friends
In the next picture, Chloe and the brunette were sleeping together on a futon, probably in Mari’s room.
Chloe wearing Ladybug pajamas being the small spoon and Marinette Abeille being the big spoon.
Alya tasted the blood.
Wonder where they’re all hidin’ out
I’m just lookin’ for some real friends
Gotta get up out of this town
In the third photo, Marinette was sitting on Kagami’s lap while they were taking selfies. The two making funny faces.
Kagami’s hands steady around Marinette.
And that was a shock to Nino.
The ice queen being funny and protective of someone.
Oh, oh
Oh, ah
A picture of the four of them together at a sleepover in what looked like Chloe’s room. Luka had a face mask, Chloe’s hair stuck in bobs, Kagami painting her nails, and Marinette reading a fashion magazine.
All of them on the bedroom floor, sweets and snacks spread and a television on in a black and white film.
The photo was taken by a fifth unknown person.
I stay up, talkin’ to the moon
Been feelin’ so alone in every crowded room
Can’t help but feel like something’s wrong, yeah
'Cause the place I’m livin’ in just doesn’t feel like home
This time it was a video of Marinette in what looked like a kitchen. A huge kitchen. Wearing a black shirt too big to be hers, probably making breakfast.
She had a spatula in her hand, distracted, using it as a microphone while singing something.
The man who had arrived with Bruce Wayne, the one with the black and white hair, joins her singing. They start dancing like crazy around the kitchen.
The video ends with him slipping and falling, Marinette laughing out loud before falling too.
It didn’t even last 20 seconds.
I’m just lookin’ for some real friends
All they ever do is let me down
Every time I let somebody in
Then I find out what they’re all about
Another video came, this time Marinette is sitting on the grass, surrounded by puppies. Two Great Dane resting their heads on her lap while she pats them.
Damian Wayne joins her and she rests against him.
He looks at the person filming and the filming quickly ends.
I’m just lookin’ for some real friends
Wonder where they’re all hidin’ out
I’m just lookin’ for some real friends
Gotta get up out of this town
The next picture had Marinette in a gym, leggings, black top, hair in a ponytail.
Another of the men who came in with Bruce Wayne, on her shoulders like a sack of potatoes.
She was all skinny muscle.
Nino heard Adrien choke and cough.
I just wanna talk about nothin’
With somebody that means somethin’
Spell the names of all our dreams and demons
For the times that I don’t understand
Marinette this time was in the same kitchen (video), an old man beside her watching her beat the dough in the bowl.
The crowded bench with Damian, Bruce and the other three men, Chloe, Kagami, Luka and… Félix?!
Tell me what’s the point of a moon like this
When I’m alone again
Can I run away to somewhere beautiful
Where nobody knows my name?
There was a joint gagging of class with the pool photo.
Damian felt jealous boil again.
I’m just lookin’ for some real friends
All they ever do is let me down
I let somebody in
But I find out what they’re all about
The next photo had Jagged Stone, Penny Rolling, Clara Nightingale, Prince Ali, and XY at a picnic. All dressed informally, looking comfortable, smiling at Marinette who was playing with Fang in the background.
And that’s how Ms. Bustier’s class seemed to remember that Jagged didn’t have a cat but a crocodile.
I’m just lookin’ for some real friends
All they ever do is let me down
I’m just lookin’ for some real friends
Gotta get up out of this town, yeah
The last picture was of everyone together.
Dupain-Cheng, Waynes, Chloe, Kagami, Luka, Felix, Claude, Allegra, Allan, Jagged, Penny, Clara, Ali, XY. Even Fang and the Great Danes.
Everyone was looking at the camera, smiling excitedly. Marinette in Damian’s arms and a banner with “Joyeux anniversaire, Marinette” in the background.
Oh, oh
Oh, ah
Marinette and Luka ended the song’s last chord when a video, this time with sound, played on the big screen.
“… Let me hear you say, this shit is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!”
Marinette turns horrified to the big screen.
“This shit is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!” Marinette on the big screen screams along with the music.
The girl throws her arms up, jumping on the bed. The Batman themed pajamas.
“Oh my god, Minette…” the recording person laughs softly so the girl doesn’t hear.
Marinette continues to scream the lyrics, unaware that she is being recorded, until the recording person starts laughing out loud and she gets scared.
“… Jason?” She has a confused expression on her face until she notices the camera and her face becomes homicidal. “Were you recording…?”
The man seems to be scared because the laughter soon dies.
“… No?” he tries.
“Really? So, you don’t mind me taking a look at your phone, do you?” She gets off the bed and goes toward him.
“… Listen, I think Alfred is calling me. Bye!” He runs from her, but doesn’t finish recording.
With him running, the phone only films the confused shapes of the house, but everyone is still able to hear Marinette running after him.
“BACK HERE TODD!”
"NOT! I DON’T WANT TO DIE AGAIN!”
Shooting continues for another two seconds and then ends abruptly.
Luka was laughing openly on stage, Marinette still with her back to the audience, blushing embarrassed and the audience laughing.
And that was how the last night of the Talent Show began.
///
Lila was waiting for her at the backstage.
Marinette knew that an hour would have to face the girl, but did not think she would attack in such an open and public place.
But objectively, this was the only chance she had, since Marinette was leaving Paris that night.
“Should I congratulate you on the engagement, Dupain-Cheng? Or should we talk about your poor attempt to come out on top?” Lila scoffs, the smugness on her face. “Because it didn’t work. They are still eating in the palm of my hand.”
Marinette sighs already tired.
"What do you want, Lila?”
“I just came to brag. I like to throw salt on the wound.”
“That’s good! Because I like it too.” Marinette says, her tone becoming sharp. “Do you really think I would go away and do nothing to unmask you, Lila Rossi?” Lila stiffens the smile. “Or rather, Volpina, the accomplice of Hawkmoth.”
The girl steps back as Marinette approaches.
"What are you talking about?” She countered. “Are you going crazy?”
“Crazy? I? No.” Marinette laughs “I just think it’s funny that you think there would be no consequences helping a terrorist. And no use denying, I know you have been helping Hawkmoth and Mayura all these years. Your best friend, Ladybug, told me.”
The two do not notice Adrien, Nino and Alya coming. Adrien, noticing the situation, prevents Alya from trying to help Lila and forces them both to hear the conversation hidden behind some wood panels.
“… So, what if I helped Hawkmoth?” They hear Lila say. Adrien feels his blood run cold. “I was a minor. A child. You have nothing against me.”
There is a break and Marinette respond.
“That’s where you’re wrong Lila. Gabriel Agreste may have been arrested and refused to speak, but the evidence, Lila, speaks for itself.” Her firm voice “One year, Lila. A year gathering evidence against you and look, I was surprised to learn that I wasn’t the only person you emotionally abused.”
“… What?” Lila whispers looking scared.
“Emilia Shawn’s suicide.” Marinette’s voice comes out like lightning. “Don’t you remember her, Lila? The girl you bullied so much she couldn’t stand and threw herself off the roof of your school in Italy?” Alya was crying on Nino’s shoulder.
“No problem you don’t remember Emilia!” Marinette says very cheerfully “As long as you remember Cassandra. Or Phillip. Marie… Rico.”
“How do you… how do you know those names?” Lila shouts.
“Because unlike you and our lovely classmates, Lila, families didn’t believe their children were abusive monsters and committed suicide because they were sorry.”
There are footsteps, Adrien gets up enough to see what was going on and recognizes Agent Raincomprix with the National Police, surrounding Marinette and Lila.
Damian Wayne appears along with Bruce Wayne alongside Marinette.
“You cannot do that! I was just a child! Children make mistakes!” Lila begins to freak out when she realizes the situation.
“No, Lila. This is murder and terrorism. And you will pay for what you did.” Marinette says.
Damian hugs the brunette in support and she squeezes his arms in thanks.
"Lila Aloisi Rossi, you are arrested for accomplice of murder and terrorism.” The Raincomprix agent says as he holds Lila in handcuffs “You have the right to remain silent. Whatever you say can and will be used against you.”
"What? NO! LET ME GO!” Lila shouts, going crazy as she struggles.
The police soon have to help the agent contain her and before they leave, he turns to Marinette and the Waynes.
“Bruce Wayne, Marinette. Thanks for your help.” He nods. “It’s up to us now.” And leaves.
“Thank you mr. Raincomprix.” Marinette says.
"I’ll go with you guys,” Bruce says and joins the agents.
Meanwhile, Lila was still screaming and kicking through the theater corridors, people leaving to find out what was going on.
Ms. Bustier’s whole class watching.
“YOU HAVE TO UNLEASH ME! I HAVE DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY!” She shouted.
Bruce Wayne, who was right behind the National Police surrounding Lila, looked smug when he spoke.
“Your country has withdrawn your immunity after we have presented the evidence of your crimes, Lila Rossi.” Lila widened her eyes, the panic evident. “You will face justice in full rights.”
Damian believes that all of Paris was able to hear the scream that the Italian gave.
He turned the woman in his arms, needing to look her in the eye.
“It’s over, angel.” He whispers to her, noticing the tear in her eyes.
Marinette sighs, relaxing against him.
“It’s over, Dami. Ended.“

Miraculous: Heartstring (Akumatized!Luka) > One
Masterlist
Marinette sat on her balcony chair, staring out at the Paris rooftops. The view, however, didn't lighten her current mood. Not because the stars weren't out, but because of the events at school earlier in the day.
Tears trickled down the girl's cheeks, her throat aching from the previous outburst. Though she was no longer bawling like before, her legs were still tucked under her arms, as she sniffled every so often.
A vibration from her phone jolted her awake, as her attention was now on the electronic device. It appeared to be a text message, and when she checked the contents, she was pleasantly surprised to see that Luka had messaged her.
Luka: Hey Marinette, I was wondering if we could talk since you're not in school having lunch.
Right. She had sprinted straight home when the bell had rung.
Marinette texted a quick reply back, saying she would meet him in a few minutes at the park, then began to make her way down to her room. As her weight shifted the mattress beneath her, she looked to her left, and saw the cork board with several pictures pinned to it.
Most of them were photos of Adrien, yet there was also a class photo, and a selfie of her and Alya. Just thinking about her supposed best friend brought back painful memories, and so she wiped her tear-streaked face and grabbed her purse before strolling to the park.
When she finally arrived, Luka was sat on a bench, with his guitar held in his lap. As she made her way over, he suddenly glanced up, and gave her a sweet smile. However, she didn't return it, and silently sat beside him
After a few tense seconds, he tentatively asked, "Marinette, what's wrong?"
She didn't say anything, and only fidgeted with her fingers on her lap, looking down sombrely.
As if sensing her sadness, he questioned, "Did something happen? You can tell me about it if you want, I'll listen."
She nodded, still not making eye contact, and took a deep breath.
"Something happened at school today," she started, and glanced to Luka, seeing him listening intently. "When I walked into class...everyone was either glaring at me, or just straight up ignoring me, and I didn't know why."
Luka furrowed his brow in confusion, as she carried on. "Apparently I had been sending cruel messages to a girl in my class, and she had told everyone how I had 'threatened' and degraded her."
Marinette's bluebell eyes began to turn glossy, when she reminisced, "My best friend accused me of being jealous, and said that she 'couldn't believe she was friends with a bully.'"
A single tear dropped down onto her cheek, as she looked down sadly at the ground.
Luka, sensing that she would soon cry, placed a hand on her shoulder and hesitantly asked in a soft tone, "Why would that girl lie about you?"
It seemed that the question plucked at her heartstrings, because suddenly she choked a sob, and buried her head in Luka's chest, arms around his midsection.
Only a second passed, before he encircled his arms around her, and allowed her to cry on his shirt. Her voice was muffled, as she explained, "She makes up a lot of lies, and takes advantage of everyone because they believe her. She lied about having tinnitus, which made me get sent to the back of the classroom by myself, so she could sit at the front."
Marinette swallowed the lump in her throat, and said, "When I was skeptical, everyone chalked it down to petty jealousy, especially when I threw a napkin at her, which she caught, when she supposedly had a sprained wrist. Whenever I point something out she brings out fake tears, and paints me as the bad guy, and now her threat is coming true."
Luka froze, and looked down at Marinette, only to see her appearing to have regretted her last sentence. He didn't want to force her to tell, and so he rubbed soothing circles on her back to coax her into explaining what she meant.
The comforting gesture seemed to do the trick, when she stated, "After the whole 'napkin' incident, she followed me into the bathroom, and pretended that she was nice, but when I showed I didn't believe her, she threatened me."
She sobbed again, and Luka tightened his grip on her body protectively, to signify that it was safe to carry on.
"Lila said-" a spark of recognition let him realise that Lila was a person that his sister had frequently mentioned, "-that she would turn all of my friends against me, and she cornered me in the room."
His eyes widened, as he took in the information she had provided. Juleka marvelled at how she knew many famous celebrities at home, and hearing the girl he loved and trusted say she lied made him want to go up to her class and make them feel how his crush felt at the very moment.
It wasn't until she confessed something specific, that it made him want to actually act out what he said.
Her voice was only a whisper when he heard her say it. "I was almost akumatized."
For a split second, his heart stopped beating, before he felt his blood begin to boil. She had already been threatened by another liar before, Bob Roth, yet she'd been confident and strong.
On the contrary, seeing her so fragile and tired of Lila's lies broke his heart, as much as it broke hers. He could just about hear her sad melody over the sound of blood rushing to his ears.
Marinette began to sob again, so he cradled her gently, while she let all of the tears out. The Jagged Stone merchandise he wore was probably stained, but he couldn't care less. What mattered now was that the girl he loved was vulnerable and hurting in his arms, almost bawling.
He whispered several promises in her ear, that he intended to keep while she cried.
"You're okay, don't worry."
"They'll get what's coming to them."
"You're safe with me."
"No one will hurt you from now on."
After a few minutes, the tears ceased, and he took the opportunity to pull her hair out of her signature pigtails. His fingers thread through her tresses, stroking her head reassuringly as the trembling in her petite body died down.
"T-Thank you," she said, pulling back and staring into his eyes. Luka could drown in the ocean blue of hers, and he would have had it not been for her request of, "Can you play your guitar, if that's okay?"
Luka nodded, and pulled back, already missing the warmth from her body. He picked up the guitar he had previously placed beside the bench, and just as he was about to grab his pick, Marinette held one out for him.
He recognized it as the Jagged Stone one he had allowed her to keep, and was amazed that she had held onto it. As if hearing his thoughts, with her sore voice she teased, "Didn't expect me to keep it?"
He chuckled, and took the guitar pick, their fingers brushing ever so slightly.
He closed his eyes in concentration, and let his hands play the familiar melody of her heart, yet it was slower and more drawn out, reflecting her mental exhaustion. She leaned onto Luka's shoulder, and her eyes fluttered shut, enjoying the tune of the music.
It was as if the only people in the world were them, as everything else was merely background noise to the pair. Her breathing began to settle, until she was no longer hiccuping- though she was still sniffling frequently.
It made him think about the person who had made Marinette feel the way she did.
Lila.
His grip tightened on the handle of the guitar, but he was still careful to keep the melody going as if nothing was bothering him.
Lila had caused this. She had not only made Marinette feel threatened, but almost let her become a victim of Hawkmoth. That in itself was bad enough.
But, hearing Marinette's melody sound so hollow and lifeless was something unforgivable. She was sincere, kind, selfless, and most of all, didn't deserve the pain she was experiencing.
A slight flutter caught his attention, and he felt the pick in his grasp cause a tickling sensation against his fingertips.

Moshing
so i read this post by @lllluka and it totally gave me flashbacks to the one time I was at a concert and threw myself into a mosh pit, so I felt like I had to write something for it in like an hour lol, hope you guys enjoy!
This had to be the most painful looking experience Marinette had ever witnessed.
She was sitting on a picnic blanket a bit away from the main crowd near the front of the stage, watching with horror-filled eyes as the crowd slammed into each other over and over again in time with the blasting music. People were jumping up and down, running into each other at full speed, and Marinette was pretty sure she could see some blood on the grass beneath the crowds feet.
Beside her, Adrien was watching the crowd with an identical expression. Neither of them had ever been to a real metal concert before, and it was… an experience to say the least.
The music was great, that was a fact. Marinette loved this kind of music, and hearing it loud enough to burst her eardrums just made the experience all that much more enjoyable. The only part she was iffy on was the mosh pit writhing in front of the stage.
“Doesn’t that hurt?” Marinette asked after a moment, turning to where Luka was sitting on her other side with a worried frown.
Luka shrugged. “It can, but it kind of just depends on how willing you are to shove people away from you. Plus, it’s a huge adrenaline rush, so you really don’t feel any pain because you’re so filled with energy.”
“Huh,” Marinette turned to look back at the crowd, noticing how every person in the pit seemed to be having the time of their life.
“It’s a lot of fun, Marinette!” A small voice quipped from in front of her. Glancing up, Marinette looked to Rose, who was giving her a sweet smile.
“Rose? You’ve moshed before?” She asked, raising an eyebrow at the tiny girl.
Someone snorted behind her. “Rose is literally the only person in Kitty Section who likes throwing herself in the pit,” Ivan explained, wrapping an arm around Mylene as he spoke.
Beside her, Adrien gasped. “Rose? You go in that thing?” He asked, staring at the girl with a mixture of admiration and terror. “Have you ever gotten hurt?”
Rose giggled. “Yeah! It’s a lot of fun, honestly. I know it seems scary, but trust me once you’re in there you’re not thinking about anything else except how much you want to move. And yeah, I’ve gotten a few bruises here and there, but nothing terrible! It’s totally worth it in my opinion.” Rose then turned back to look at the crowd, and Marinette noticed it was slowing down as the song came to an end. “Speaking of, I think I’m gonna hop in there right now! Does anyone wanna join me?”
Marinette and Adrien shared wide-eyed looks before they both shook their heads. Luka laughed, and Marinette turned to give him a fake glare.
“Why don’t you go in there, Luka?” Marinette asked, the challenge obvious in her voice.
“Nah, not my thing,” Luka said with a shrug.
“Juleka?” Marinette then questioned, turning back to glance at the dark-haired girl.
“No way,” Juleka answered, her bangs swaying as she shook her head no.
“So Rose is just going in there by herself?” Rose didn’t seem concerned about this, but Marinette was worried the small girl might get crushed by the crowd and no one would be able to find her.
Suddenly, a booming voice shouted from behind.
“OF COURSE NOT!” Whipping around, Marinette was met with the manic grin of Anarka Couffaine, who was making her way to the group with her hands on her hips. When she walked up to Rose, she threw an arm around the blonde’s shoulders. “I’ll be goin’ in there with Rose! She’s the only one of you kids who can keep up with me!”
Okay, that wasn’t a surprise.
“Marinette! Adrien! Do either of ya want to join us?” Anarka then asked, her eyes glittering behind her glasses.
Both shook their heads no, and Anarka shrugged. “Your choice. If ya change yer mind, feel free to hop in!” With that, she and Rose headed to the crowd just as the next song began to pick up.
“I hope they’re okay,” Adrien said quietly. “Father always said heavy metal concerts were dangerous.”
“Wait then how are you here right now?” Mylene asked.
Adrien smirked, and Marinette felt her cheeks heat up at the sight. “My father doesn’t know I’m at a heavy metal concert. He thinks I’m working on a school project with Alya.” It was true. Marinette knew Alya and Adrien had taken several pictures together at Alya’s house before the concert so that if Adrien’s father asked for evidence that he was there, Adrien would be alright.
From their blanket on the grass, Marinette couldn’t make out a ton of detail in the mosh pit, but she could spot Rose’s short gold hair near the center of the pit. Every few seconds, she’d get a glimpse of Anarka as well, who was even further in the center than Rose was. Both seemed to be having the time of their lives, and as the minutes passed, Marinette’s fear waned.
The music was back and louder than ever, and the beat was infectious. Marinette’s foot tapped in time with the beat, Luka patted out a rhythm on his thighs, and Adrien hummed along. It was a cold fall afternoon, and Marinette tilted her head back to take a deep breath of the crisp air.
After a few minutes of just listening and enjoying, Marinette pulled out her phone to add this to her instagram story. She loaded up the app, and was about to click on the ‘add to story’ button, when she noticed the first post in her feed and frowned.
It was Lila. The picture she posted was a selfie with Jagged Stone, who looked like he’d rather be anywhere but taking a picture with the brunette. Lila was smiling brightly and holding up Jagged’s latest album, and Marinette was going to just click away before she noticed the caption.
Had a great time seeing the private Jagged Stone concert last night! It was great to catch up with him, and he even said I could design his next album cover! Love you, Jagged!
Marinette blinked. That was in no way true. Lila had zero graphic design experience, and even if she did, Jagged would never have offered to let her design his album cover. He’d already talked about letting Marinette design it again, considering how well-received her first design was.
Even though she knew it was a bad idea, Marinette grit her teeth as she clicked to the comments. There were choruses of you’re so cool, Lila! And omg I can’t believe I know someone who’s friends with Jagged Stone and You’re gonna do great, Lila!
Marinette hated this. She hated how Lila could lie about anything and get away with it. She noticed how Lila didn’t tag Jagged Stone in her picture, probably to minimize any chance of him seeing her lie and calling her out on it. This was so unfair.
It was a familiar anger that came over Marinette the longer she stared at the picture. She wanted to comment something to call her out, but she had no evidence to back up that she was lying. Her hands curled into fists, and she knew she needed to calm down soon.
The song changed again, and Marinette looked up to see the pit still going crazy. Everyone was bouncing and shoving each other, and in that moment, nothing sounded more enjoyable to Marinette than getting to shove a few people around while listening to her favorite kind of music.
“I’m gonna go in,” she said without thinking.
“What?!” Adrien gasped beside her. She turned to meet his worried gaze, and while normally she would melt at a look like that from him, right now her sole focus was on getting in that pit.
“I’ll be fine, don’t worry,” she reassured him. Next to her, she felt Luka rest a hand on her arm.
“If you need anything, text me and I’ll run in there,” Luka said quietly.
“Thanks Luka, but it’s just a mosh pit. I’ll be fine!” She said, even though she had no clue how this was going to go.
Getting up before she could psych herself out of it, Marinette pocketed her phone and made her way over to the edge of the pit. The music was much louder closer to the stage, and Marinette could feel the bass reverberating in her bones. She saw a mix of teenagers and adults, most of them much taller than her, all shoving each other and bouncing around like it was the end of the world. Marinette craned her neck and was able to to spot Rose and Anarka still jumping up and down near the center.
Taking a breath, Marinette reminded herself she’d jumped off the Eiffel Tower plenty of times before, and pushed her way into the fray.
The minute she stepped inside the pit, Marinette was swept away. She was being shoved at all angles, and her vision was spinning as she tried to keep up. She jumped up and down, trying to look for where Rose and Anarka were, but she couldn’t stay in a single place for more than a second to look. The music was pounding in her ears, and she was being pushed from side to side so fast she could barely breathe. Her heart was pounding and she felt terrified, but… it wasn’t bad?
Deciding to try and focus on the music, Marinette felt a hand shove her forward, and she stumbled before catching herself. Straightening back up, she barely had time to take a breath before she was being pushed to the left. Then the right. Then forward. Then backward. Every second she was being shoved by someone. It was dizzying.
Marinette then remembered why she came into the pit, and when Lila’s smiling face came into her head, she felt her anger return. She got shoved again, and this time she shoved back. She wasn’t looking at who she was pushing, and it didn’t matter. The music was blasting and Marinette was dancing and holy shit Rose was right this was fun.
The writhing mass of bodies was like one being as the crowd swelled and ebbed in time with the music. Marinette didn’t think, she just moved. Her heart was racing, she was covered in sweat, and she couldn’t stop smiling.
The song slowly came to an end, and the crowd calmed down. Marinette was breathing heavily, and her entire body was already sore, but she felt better than she had in days. She waited for the music to pick up again so she could go back to her dancing, but there was only quiet.
“Okay guys!” The singer suddenly announced from the front. The crowd perked to attention, and Marinette looked to the long-haired man with the microphone in his hands. “I want the pit to split down the middle. We’re doing a wall of death!” Suddenly a deafening roar of cheers erupted from all around, and Marinette glanced to the other people in confusion. What was a wall of death?
Suddenly, the crowd split and Marinette felt herself being pushed backwards. Her half of the pit all lined up along one edge of the circle, and her eyes darted around as she tried to find where Rose and Anarka had went.
Then, there was a hand on her arm, and Marinette turned to meet Rose’s sweet smile.
“Marinette! You decided to join us!” Rose exclaimed excitedly.
“Uh, yeah, I thought it looked fun,” Marinette said, laughing awkwardly. “But, um, what’s this ‘wall of death’?”
From behind Rose, Anarka chuckled. “Oh dearie, yer gonna see in a minute. Just follow our lead, when we run, you run!”
Marinette’s eyes widened as she turned to see the other half of the pit, and the music picked up once more. The energy in each side of the crowd seemed to grow with each passing second, the other concert-goers tapping their feet or bouncing a bit as the chorus drew closer. A part of Marinette wondered what the hell she was doing, but she’d been having fun so far, so hopefully this wall of death didn’t turn out too bad.
Back at the picnic blanket, Tikki was sitting in Marinette’s purse, watching the wall of death form with wide eyes. Human music traditions certainly had gotten… stranger in the past few centuries. She just hoped that Marinette didn’t come back with a black eye.
The beat drop got closer, and Marinette felt her heart rate pick up. She glanced to Rose, who gave her a thumbs up, and her breathing quickened. At the front of the crowd, the singer held a hand up as he sang the last note of the verse.
And then, the hand dropped, and Rose grabbed Marinette’s arm before sprinting forward.
Everything in the crowd was such a jumbled mess of pushing and shoving and dancing, and Marinette couldn’t tell which way was right and which way was left as the crowds slammed together. At one point she felt an elbow hit her face, but she was too hopped up on adrenaline to even mind it.
By the time Marinette made her way out of the pit, all thoughts of Lila were erased from her head. All she could think of was how much fun she just had, and also how ready she was for a nap. Somehow, Rose and Anarka were still going.
The girl approached the picnic blanket again, and Marinette gave a shy wave to her friends as they all stared at her in shock. As she got closer though, Adrien gasped and rushed forward.
“Marinette you’re bleeding!” He exclaimed. Marinette’s eyes widened as she tried to figure out where she’d gotten hurt, but she didn’t even get a chance to ask where before Luka was right by her side.
“I’m bleeding?” She asked as both boys gaped at her.
“Yeah, your nose,” Adrien said quietly, reaching forward a bit with his hand before pulling back. Reaching up with her hand, Marinette wiped at her nose, and was surprised when a bit of dried blood showed up on the back of her palm.
Luka rested his hands on her shoulders and peered close to her face. “Did you get hit in the face?”
“Yeah, someone did elbow me in the nose, but it didn’t hurt so I just figured it was fine,” Marinette said with a shrug.
“Here, I have tissues,” Adrien said, rushing back to his messenger bag. He pulled out a small pack of kleenex and handed it to her, and Marinette blushed as she took it from him.
“Thank you,” she muttered, bringing the tissues up to wipe at the dried blood on her upper lip. Beside her, Luka shifted and threaded an arm around her waist, and led her back to sit on the picnic blanket.
She sat in between the two boys, ignoring their identical worried expressions as she finished cleaning the blood off. She was probably going to be covered in bruises tomorrow, but for now she felt fantastic.
“How was it?” Adrien asked after Marinette had cleaned herself up. “I watched you in there and it seemed terrifying.”
Marinette laughed. “No, Rose was right, it’s super fun.”
“You enjoyed that?” Luka asked, the surprise obvious on his face.
Marinette nodded. “Yup! And after I take a breather I’m gonna go back in there!”
Both boys immediately shook their heads. “No way,” they said in unison.
This made Marinette frown. “But-”
“Please don’t go in there again, at least not today. You got hurt,” Adrien said softly, resting a hand on her shoulder.
Marinette’s breath caught in her throat, and she felt a warm hand take hers.
“It’s your first pit, Marinette. Don’t push yourself,” Luka said, squeezing her hand.
With both boys looking so worried about her, Marinette’s face was practically on fire.
“Well… alright then.”
Marinette spent the rest of the concert squeezed in between Adrien and Luka, and she had to admit, she wasn’t that disappointed about not going in the pit again. Though the next time she went to a metal concert, she knew exactly where she was going to be.

An analysis of Kagami’s character in season 3
Warnings: discussion of anxiety and not good parenting
I hated Oni Chan when it first came out, because it seemed like it was really butchering Kagami’s character, but I just rewatched it and... all of her actions seem really justified.   Looking at her thought process has lead me to a way deeper understanding of Kagami’s character
(under the cut because this got fairly long)
So obviously she acts way over the top while she’s akumatized, that’s how akumas work, but the parts where she’s acting of her own free will? Everything she did made perfect sense.
To review, just before being akumatized, Kagami is practicing fencing with her mother.   She gets a message on her phone, and her mother makes her wait until after she’s done practicing to open it.   Kagami looks really disappointed in herself for getting in trouble with her mom.   This is speculation, but that is her mom’s only spoken line in the entire episode, so there’s a chance that the only comment Kagami’s mother made during her entire practice was being upset at Kagami for her phone, and that would force Kagami to fixate on the message throughout practice.   She clearly wants her mother’s approval, and the message was getting in the way of it. Even if it wasn’t the only thing she said, it’s been shown that Kagami takes any criticism from her mother really hard.
Also, this episode comes before Ikari Gozen.   Kagami’s still has basically no friends (except maybe Adrien) and desperately wants to be accepted. There was a reason that she picked up her phone immediately and tried to look at the message; Kagami isn’t the type to just forget her mom’s rule.   So either getting messages on her phone is so rare that it’s something she never really had to deal with before, which would make the message something really special to her, or she just desperately wants friends enough that her eagerness to see the message won out over her strict discipline enough to make her forget the rules.
And then, after all the mental buildup, Kagami finished practicing and opens the message. So, keep in mind, on top of what I already said, that Kagami’s going to be physically exhausted because she just finished a workout, and probably also frustrated because her mother definitely didn’t give her the validation she wanted.   She’s going to be sort of on a knife’s edge anyways.   And, judging by her brief smile as she put her phone away while her mother told her off, the message was probably something that she was looking forward to as a way to ignore all the other pain.
Then comes the part that everyone criticizes. In the course of about 30 seconds, she 1) opens the message to see that it’s a selfie of Lila kissing Adrien on the cheek, 2) sort of growls as she throws her phone across the feild, 3) opens up a notebook, gently touches a photograph of her and Adrien at fencing practice that was carefully tucked between the pages, 4) pulls out the rose Adrien gave her which is now pressed, 5) we see a brief flashback Adrien handing her the rose in Frozer, and then 6) she picks up her sword, 7) we see a few tears run down her face, and then 8) she gets akumatized.   That all seems super sudden and needlessly dramatic at first viewing, but let’s break it down.
No matter what, it’s going to hurt to see the picture of Adrien who’s apparently casually hanging out with some other girl in his room.   Kagami “never hesitates” and I think it’s safe to assume that she’s already asked if she could visit him multiple times and been turned down because he’s “never allowed to have friends over” or something, so this is going to feel like a slap in the face. She doesn’t have enough time to think everything through, but just the brief suggestion that her only friend might have been lying to her to avoid her because he didn’t actually want to see her is an enormous blow to her fragile self-confidence.   Just by merit of having Adrien as her only friend, she’s going to hear a whole lot of “sorry I can’t interact with you ever my dad doesn’t want me to have friends” and by merit of being Kagami she’s got some huge doubts and trust issues, so I can almost guarantee that the fear that he was actually lying to her and just disliked her had probably been bubbling for a while and wouldn’t take much to set it off. Especially in during a post-fencing practice adrenaline high, throwing her phone was a pretty understandable reaction.
Then, there’s the photograph and the rose. So Kagami obviously cares deeply about Adrien if she’s carrying those around with her, but it makes sense.   He gave her the rose like it was something deeply special, he’d probaly be expecting her to keep it safe, and it makes sense that she’d want to preserve it forever.   And keeping photographs with friends is a pretty normal thing.
Now, we don’t know the exact details of Kagami’s home life, but from experience interacting with my friend’s parents, her mom strikes me as the type of parent who’s obsessed with control and doesn’t believe that their children deserve privacy.   and 90% of the time, that kind of parenting leads to children who try to hide everything they can from their parents and are really good at sneaking away (like, maybe, lying to their mother about participating in a harmless game?   Knowing enough about their car’s security to hack it without a second thought?   Sneaking away from a fancy event the first chance they get?   Only having one number in their entire phone because their mom won’t let them talk to others?   Impulsively lying to their mom about interests?   I could go on forever but yeah Kagami’s a very familiar type of person that I see in a lot of my classmates and it hurts my heart.)
So back to the photograph and the rose being kept on Kagami’s person at all times: it makes total sense.   She doesn’t have any privacy anywhere else.   She’s going to be afraid to talk to her mother about any of her interests anyway for fear of being ridiculed, and even more terrified when that interest is friendship.   Look at Ikari Gozen.   Kagami brings up Adrien in front of her mom for the first time on screen, she says his first and last name like she’s trying to be really formal and distance herself emotionally from him.   Then, her mother immediately insults Adrien and you can physically see Kagami regret what she had said and try to change the conversation by just agreeing with her mother.  She knows she won’t ever change her mother’s mind and she does her own thing regardless of what her mother says, but that doesn’t make her mother’s disapproval not sting.   Of course, in a world where she has to hide any interest she has if she doesn’t want it to be attacked, she’s going to keep the photograph and the rose away from anyone else’s prying eyes.
And then, I’ll admit, at first I made fun of her impulsive reaction: where she saw a selfie of Adrien with another girl and then immediately started petting a photo of herself with him, but this time I thought about all of this from Kagami’s point of view and I had a huge realization.
I headcanon Kagami as having both anxiety and autism, and it’s pretty well supported by the show anyways, which is a conversation for another time.   But specifically, having both means that they can feed each other a lot.   If you’re having an anxiety attack because you think your friends might hate you, it’s a lot harder to break out of it if you also know that you’re terrible at reading social cues, and it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the fear that people are just subtly telling you they hate you and you’re missing their cues.   And that would relate to Kagami’s situation incredibly well: she doesn’t have anyone else to validate her, and Adrien’s nice and all but it’d be really easy, especially in the clutches of an anxiey spiral, to think that maybe his “excuses” are actually his way of tellling her that he doesn’t like her, and that her own lack of social nuance is keeping her from seeing it.
This is obviously not a good place to be mentally, but as someone who has been there and who has a therapist, the best advice I’ve ever gotten to deal with it has been to step back and look only at concrete things, because my brain will take anything open for interpretation and turn it into an attack on myself.
And this is exactly what Kagami does.   I’d bet that this has happened several times before, because Kagami had been overwhelmed by so much emotion that she had growled and thrown her phone; I think she was acting on instinct when she pulled the notebook out.   And it makes sense that this would be Kagami’s impulsive response: she was just flooded with an unmanageable wave of fear and doubt that Adrien had been lying to her, and then she turned to the concrete evidence she had that he did care about her.   Remember, this isn’t just about romantic fantasies, this is about the only friend she’s ever made and her own fear that she can’t even trust herself to read interactions; it’s going to be really overwhelming.   So she pulls out the photo of herself with Adrien.   It’s real, it’s proof that Adrien was there with her and acknowledges that she exists and smiles at her like that.   In the midst of a breakdown, that photograph would be a huge means of grounding herself in reality.   And then she pulls out the rose, even more solid evidence that he cares about her.   No matter what else, he did give her this rose, it’s real and it’s here.
So I can completely see why she that was her immediate reaction: the message triggered a specific panic attack that she’s had multiple times before, she freaked out, and then she turned to calm herself down the best she could.   It may have all turned out fine and deescalated quickly.   Except, the rose is connected to a very specific memory: a very sad Adrien told Kagami that he was in love with someone who didn’t like him back when he gave it to her.
Take a second to think about this all from Kagami’s point of view: she’s ridiculously emotionally unsteady at the moment, she’s thinking about a time when Adrien was left brokenhearted by some girl who he’s still waiting on, and then she gets a photo of a girl being all flirty with Adrien.   She knows Lila Rossi specifically, I don’t know how much she knows about her lies, but she seems to know her enough to know that she’s a manipulative jerk.   So any implication at all that this could be the girl who’s continuing to break Adrien’s heart, and who he’s still loyally waiting on?   Of course Kagami’s going to go absolutely mental.   She cares about Adrien enough to want to protect him from anyone who’d toy with his emotions for their own benefit.
I don’t know exactly why she picks up her sword, whether she was going to blow off some more steam practicing or what, but it was a time when Kagami had every right to act rashly.    Same thing goes with the fact that she started crying in that moment.  She’s so so overwhelmed.   And then of course Hawkmoth akumatizes her.
I’m almost done, but seriously, if you haven’t seen this episode in a while, please take a look at Kagami and Adrien’s interactions at the very end.   Kagami is so ridiculously happy when Adrien is nice to her, and in context of everything else, it’s almost sad.   But she very clearly does care about Adrien and wants to be able to trust him to make his own decisions.

Kota Chapter 11: Behind the Mask
First | Previous | ToC | Next
Lacy, for some reason, followed Chloe out of the classroom.
She found her sobbing in the bathroom, eye makeup already smeared. When Chloe saw Lacy enter, she scowled.
"Go away," she snapped.
For some reason, she didn't.
Maybe it was because no one else followed Chloe (well, Adrien might have if he could, but they were hiding in the girls bathroom so he couldn't come in). Maybe it was because she didn't want to deal with another akuma. Or maybe Chloe reminded her so much of several of her sisters that Lacy couldn't help but feel bad for her.
So Lacy stayed.
That didn't mean she knew what to say.
"I'm sorry Sabrina's been ignoring you all day," she eventually said.
Chloe sniffled. "Are you?"
"It sucks, feeling like you're all alone," Lacy stated. "I've been there before."
Chloe huffed. "I'm not all alone."
Lacy sighed. If Piper was here, she would know what to say. She always knew how to make their sisters listen, even the brattiest ones. Lacy, on the other hand, had no clue.
She thought about something her dad said once. If you don't know what to say to someone, just let them know you're there.
"Listen, we don't know each other," Lacy said. "I don't think you want to know me, and honestly I don't really want to know you either. But right now you're sobbing in a smelly bathroom, and you're not alright, and you need someone to stay with you. So even if all I can do is stay here, I will."
"Why? Why do you care?"
"Because I've sobbed my heart out in a smelly bathroom before," Lacy replied. "Because someone a lot like Lila stole someone I thought was my friend - and I don't know what I would have done if some random new girl hadn't found me there and stayed with me until I felt better."
Chloe started at her for a moment.
"And because the three people I admire most in life would have followed you too," Lacy admitted. "If they could. But ones on the other side of the ocean right now, and ones - well, she's dead. But mostly because I've felt alone before, and I wouldn't wish it on anybody."
Chloe scoffed. "Please. You have a perfect family, I doubt-"
Lacy cut her off with a laugh that surprised even herself. "Perfect family? I've never even met my mother."
Chloe blinked. "What about that woman you're always around?"
"Elisabeth? She's my stepmom." Lacy sighed. "And I love her, but that never changed the fact that my own mother never bothered to visit me. And it's not like she couldn't! My sister met her - twice! But I guess I'm not worth the time."
"Oh." Chloe said.
"So yeah, I know what it's like to feel alone," Lacy said. "When everyone has this picture perfect family and you don't."
"My mother forgot my birthday again," Chloe blurted. "Sabrina and Adrien remembered, and my butler and my father, but she didn't. And then Sabrina immediately ditched me after giving me my present, and Adrien's sitting next to Dupain Cheng, the pinnacle of all things I'll never be, and I just-"
"Feel forgotten," Lacy finished. "It brought up all the old insecurities again."
"Yeah," Chloe agreed. "And lashing out, it helps. Sometimes."
"Fight or flight," Lacy said. She herself was very much flight - whether it was shutting up whenever Lila or Drew was around, running from akuma attacks, or skipping school when she had a scary teacher. But Chloe must have been a fighter - she wanted to defend herself, even if there was nothing to defend from.
"Maybe," Chloe said. "I don't always know why."
"My sister stole a car once." Why that came out her mouth, Lacy had no idea. "Well, she said she talked them into it. She has the same ability as Lila has, except better, and whenever she felt ignored by her father, she talked people into giving her free stuff, knowing the effect would wear off and she'd get caught. I guess she figured that if she couldn't get her dad's attention for being good, she'd get it by being bad."
"That makes sense," Chloe said. "Sometimes, I'm afraid that people will forget me. Especially Adrien. Or my mom. And I'll just fade away."
Lacy hesitated. "Honestly I don't know what to say to that."
"What? No magical therapy cures from the daughter of a therapist?" Chloe huffed and crosses her arms.
"There's no magical therapy cures period," Lacy said. "Therapy takes a lot of work. Change takes a lot of work."
Chloe eyed her suspiciously. "You ever go to therapy?"
"Yeah," Lacy agreed. "My father had a colleague that I used to go to - since my dad couldn't do it right, being so close to me. He helped with a lot of my problems with my mom, and my teachers, and - well, I'm a mess, and he helped with a lot of that. Actually, I'm the reason my father switched his focus to youth, especially those with learning disabilities and family struggles. Because he saw how little people knew how to help me, and he decided to make sure he could help others like me, even if it meant a little more schooling."
"Your father must love you a lot," Chloe said.
"Yeah," Lacy agreed. She looked down at her feet. "Sometimes I feel selfish for wanting my mother to love me, when I have him and Elisabeth. Like they're not enough."
"But mothers are supposed to love you," Chloe argued.
"Yeah." Lacy sighed. "They are."
Silence. Lacy shifted her weight, wondering if she should say something.
Chloe broke the silence first. "Want to get out of the smelly bathroom?"
Lacy nodded. "Yeah."
The two girls sat down on a bench in the locker room, and Chloe was quiet for a moment.
"Do you think Cesaire is right?"
"Uh..." Lacy stammered. "Kinda?"
Chloe scoffed. "You can be honest, you know."
"Yeah, I do," Lacy said. "You - I get it, change is hard and scary, but when you're entrusted with something like that, I don't know, you need to take it seriously."
"I do," Chloe said. "Ladybug's the only person who's ever trusted me like that. But, if I try to change, and I don't-"
"You'll feel even worse," Lacy finished. "Failing at something can be scarier than not even trying. Like procrastinating a big essay."
"I guess."
"And you will fail," Lacy said.
Chloe shot her a glare, and she backtracked.
"Not you, specifically. I meant - my father always told me, that when you try to do any big changes in your life, any big improvements, he always said that you will backslide once or twice. And that's why a lot of people give up. But that's okay! I mean, not giving up, but backsliding, and being afraid, and I think Ladybug would understand. But I think she'd appreciate it if you showed you took it seriously, even if just through little things."
"Maybe." Chloe sighed. She was quiet, staring at the wall, and Lacy shifted on the bench awkwardly.
Chloe's head lulled, falling onto Lacy's shoulder. "I'm tired."
"Schools almost over," Lacy replied.
"I don't want to go back in there," Chloe admitted.
"That's fine," Lacy said. "We can stay out here as long as we need."
"Thank you," Chloe replied.
They stayed silent for a moment, Lacy listening as Chloe's breathing became steadier and steadier.
She sniffled, and raised up to look at Lacy. "Can you come over to my place tonight?"
"Sure," Lacy agreed. "I'll just have to let my father know."
.
"- and if she's even a little bit mean to you-" Alix continued.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine," Lacy replied.
"She'll regret the day she was born," Alix finished.
Lacy rolled her eyes. "Alix, I'll be fine. I promise."
Alix sighed. "Okay, if you say so. But if I find out she brought you to tears, or you get akumatized-"
Alix was cut off by a phone alert.
"Another akuma," Alix said after checking her phone. "Other side of Paris."
The two of them reached the stairs outside of the school.
"I'll see you tomorrow," Lacy said, continuing down the stairs and waving bye to Alix.
"There you are."
Lacy startled as Chloe put her hand around her shoulders.
"You startle too easily," Chloe scoffed.
"So I've been told," Lacy grumbled.
"Hey Chloe!"
Both girls jumped this time as Adrien passed them on the stairs.
"I hope today wasn't too bad of a birthday," he said. "I'd hang with you tonight, but-"
Chloe scoffed. "I'm having a girls night anyways. See you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow," Adrien replied before continuing down the stairs.
Chloe's limo pulled up a second later, and Lacy felt a glimmer of excitement at the idea of riding in one, if only a short distance. Limos were cool - Piper had once promised Lacy a ride in one, but outside circumstances kept that from happening.
Chloe smirked, clearly reading the excitement on Lacy's face.
The ride to the hotel was just enough time for Chloe to snap a selfie of them together and post it on her Instagram.
"What's your instagram?" Chloe asked.
"Oh, uh, I don't have one."
Chloe gave her a look over her phone.
"I'm cursed when it comes to technology," Lacy explained. "Bad things happen when I use it."
Chloe didn't look convinced. "We're getting you an Instagram tonight."
"Okay... but if we get attacked by killer birds, it's your fault."
In Paris, no one thought she was joking when she said that (unlike when she tried that excuse on her friends in New York), but Chloe wasn't swayed.
"Everyone has an Instagram," she stated, just as the limo rolled to a stop in front of the hotel.
.
Of course, Chloe's apartment was huge. Lacy couldn't help but gasp when she walked in.
Chloe flicked her hair as she continued into her room, beckoning Lacy to follow her.
"So what do you want to do?" Chloe asked, plopping down on her sofa.
"I don't know." Lacy sat down next to Chloe, shifting from the nerves she always felt when visiting someone's home for the first time. "What do you feel up to?"
"Well, let's see. Sabrina and I like to cosplay, but I know you're not really into superheroes."
"Not really, no."
"Which I don't understand, but whatever. Have you ever tried jewelry making?"
Lacy perked up. "I've always wanted to."
Chloe smiled. "Well, Daddy bought me some expensive crafting supplies for making jewelry we could use."
Lacy quickly agreed, and Chloe dug the supplies out of her extremely large closet. She showed Lacy the few things she had learned so far before the two started digging in.
They fell into a comfortable rhythm quickly, chatting about the different beads, lengths of the necklaces, and their favorite jewelry designers as they crafted. After an hour, their workspace had expanded to cover most of Chloe's amazingly soft bed and the floor, and Lacy had almost glued her thumb to one of her fingers.
Chloe had created three necklaces - her designs were gaudy and flashy, but she had the details like length correct. Lacy had finished two necklaces, both looking disjointed with one too long to wear and one so short it was almost a choker.
"I think I'm jewelry-ed out," Lacy admitted, leaning back onto Chloe's bed.
"Agreed." Chloe half-flung the bead case onto her nightstand and plopped down next to Lacy.
The two girls were silent for a moment, and it was a peaceful silence, but Lacy eventually had to readjust the pillow her head fell on.
"Hey Lacy," Chloe whispered.
"Yeah?"
"Thank you for coming over. I didn't want to spend tonight alone."
"Of course."
Lacy shifted her pillow again.
"You don't sit still, do you?" Chloe asked.
"No," Lacy admitted. She rolled over to face Chloe. "Your bed is really comfortable, you know?"
"I know. After all, I have to get my beauty sleep."
"I thought you woke up like that." Lacy flashed a cheeky grin, and Chloe playfully hit her with a throw pillow.
Someone knocked on the door.
"Come on in!" Chloe yelled, pushing herself up and fixing her hair.
Her butler came in. "Madamoiselle, your father wanted me to tell you that he cannot make dinner tonight for a meeting."
"What?" Chloe demanded. "Tell him he's being ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous!"
"I will. Is there anything I can get for you two in the meantime?"
"Ugh, no, we're fine. I'll call you if I need you." Chloe dismisses the butler with a hand wave, before collapsing back onto her bed.
"The one person I can count on being there on my birthday," she lamented. "By the way, your phone's been going off for five minutes now and it's driving me nuts."
Lacy glanced up, looking for her phone - which would still be across the room in her backpack. Bemoaning leaving the comfy bed, Lacy swung her feet over and went to retrieve the bag.
"Who is it?" Chloe asked.
Lacy unzipped her pocket and pulled out her phone. "It's Marinette - which is probably not who you want to hear about."
Chloe groaned. "Please no. I get enough of her and her goody-two-shoes-ness at school."
Double-checking that her parents hadn't contacted her, Lacy quickly sent Marinette a text telling her she was busy and put her phone back in her bag.
"Part of me thinks I should defend her, but I don't know if that would help," Lacy admitted, retaking her position on the insanely soft bed.
"Don't tell me you've fallen for it too," Chloe groaned.
"Oh, I see," Lacy mused. "You think it's all an act, don't you?"
Chloe scoffed. "Everyone's acting, Lacy. Some people just get away with pretending to be the good, heroic student who everyone likes and flocks to. It's no wonder Rossi targets her so much."
"And you're jealous."
"A little." Chloe sighed and rolled over. "It's not fair. She has the perfect family, more friends than I can count, and she's not tragically poor either - it's like everything someone could want. And it was one thing when I could, you know..."
"Bully her?"
"Yeah, but now she blows me off like I'm nothing. And now Adrien's starting to have a crush on her, instead of me."
"You don't like Adrien anyways," Lacy replied. "Not like that."
Chloe grumbled. "He's the only guy who pays me any attention - except for Kim, but I thought he was kidding until he got akumatized over it!"
"I have seen a lot of people make that mistake," Lacy admitted.
"And Kim was different back then anyways - he's played meaner pranks than that. I mean, everyone blames me for the akumas but he caused the first one!"
"Yeah, but he's changed."
Chloe scoffed. "Maybe he has."
"But that's beside the point, weren't we talking about Marinette?"
"Ugh, even thinking about her makes me mad."
"I get it." Lacy turned so she was facing Chloe, who turned to her. "Girls who seem to have everything together, who are confident, popular, well-loved, they're easy to hate."
"Really easy," Chloe agreed.
"But I don't think Marinette's faking it."
Chloe scoffed. "Everyone's faking it. Even you."
Lacy opened her mouth to argue - of course she wasn't - but closed it when she realized Chloe was right. It was the small things - the pressure mostly from her sisters. Only movies with romance were worth watching. Don't do any activities that will ruin your hair (even climbing! Lacy had sat out so many climbing lessons at camp because the rest of her cabin was). Gossip. Always watch your image.
That's what a daughter of Aphrodite was supposed to do, right?
"Yeah, okay," Lacy agreed. "I do it, you do it, everyone does it. But the person behind the mask - I think for Marinette, it's usually just someone who really, really wants to go sleep. Not someone trying to be the most popular girl in school or compete with you for attention or anything."
"Oh really? Then what's her problem with Rossi?"
"Lila? She lies."
"So?"
"You know how my phone buzzer was bothering you a little bit ago? Marinette's pet peeve is liars - and yeah, the fact that she flirts with Adrien isn't helping anything either."
"That is not making her many friends at all," Chloe added. "So you really think all this comes naturally?"
"You say that like it means she has no flaws." Lacy frowned. "But I'm not going to tell you what those are, because you are a jerk to her."
"Fair enough. But she does have flaws?"
"Everyone has flaws, and crappy parts of their life. You thought I had a perfect life too, remember?"
"You handle it all better than I do."
"It's called therapy. You should try it sometimes."
Chloe chuckled. "Fair." She pushed herself back up and undid her ponytail. "Today was exhausting."
Lacy pushed herself up as well. "You should try to go to bed early after a day like today."
Chloe fussed with her hair for a minute, but Lacy pushed her hands out of the way and started doing it herself.
"Maybe take a nice bath in that bathtub I saw in there," Lacy suggested. She stretched for the brush on Chloe's nightstand and started slowly combing through her hair.
"This feels nice," Chloe said.
Lacy haltered, but just for a second. It wasn't something she had intended to do, but something had caused her to do it anyways.
A bittersweet memory tugged at her brain, and Lacy remembered Silena combing her hair like this, and singing, just a few nights before she died...
Lacy shook the thought out of her head and focused on the hair in front her hair. Absentmindedly, she began to hum as well, and eventually she let herself sing.
"A naeoidhean bhig cluinn mo ghuth Mise rid' thaobh O mhaighdean bhan"
.
"Pound it!"
"Two akumas in one day again," Chat Noir commented. "Hawkmoth must be getting impatient."
"Honestly the akumas have been the least stressful part of my day," Ladybug admitted. "School drama sucks."
"Tell me about it," Chat Noir grumbled. "Who knew school could get this complicated?"
"Speaking of drama, I think I owe Rena an apology," Ladybug said. "I was thinking about how Chloe handled the drama with Sabrina, and I was sympathetic at first, but then I found out she ruined someone's artwork and, I don't know. I'm not sure why that makes me want to talk to her - I guess I realized I missed her too. And I didn't handle it well either."
"I'm sure you handled it fine," Chat Noir replied. "You didn't get anyone akumatized, did you?"
"Well, no-"
"And you didn't lash out at anyone, right?"
"I did, but she kinda deserved it, so-" Ladybug sighed. "I'm a mess today."
"So many akumas will do that to you." Chat Noir rubbed his neck sheepishly. "I lost my temper today too, and probably made things worse for my friend."
Ladybug shook her head. "I've never seen you lose your temper with someone who didn't deserve it."
"I'm not saying she didn't," Chat Noir argued. "But - like you said, drama sucks."
"I don't have time to be dealing with drama on top of everything else," Ladybug complained. "But if I don't do something, people are going to get hurt."
"You're braver than I am," Chat Noir said. "I can handle akumas fine, but when it comes the littlest bit of social pressure, I panic."
"Trust me, I'd take an akuma any day over some of people in my class," Ladybug agreed.
Chat Noir's ring beeped. "Looks like I have to go. Until next time, my lady." He gave an extravagant bow, before bounding off.
Ladybug watched him go. It was nice to know that whatever drama happened in school, her partnership with Chat Noir would remain untouched.
Her own earrings beeped, reminding her to recharge before visiting Alya. She ducked into an alleyway, and her transformation dropped.
Marinette dug into her purse for her macaroons and handed one to Tikki.
"I wish I could tell Chat what's going on at school," she mused. "He's such a good listener, and I always feel better talking to him."
"You can," Tikki replied. "As long as you're very careful not to reveal too much."
"That's what I'm afraid of," Marinette replied. "We've already run into Lila so many times, it would be easy to guess who I'm talking about."
"She does have a habit of causing problems," Tikki agreed.
Marinette sighed. "She's become more of a headache than Chloe."
Tikki finished her macaroon, and Marinette called for her transformation.
"Tikki, spots on!"
.
Alya stared at the ceiling, not having the will to do anything else.
Today was a disaster. She had lost her temper at Miss Bustier twice after the argument with Chloe, and had almost snapped at Nino too. She had been seconds away from earning herself a detention for a bad attitude (why didn't Chloe ever get detentions for a bad attitude?), and then had accidentally grumbled at her mom when she got home, which just made everything worse.
Her phone buzzed again on her nightstand, but she couldn't bring herself to check.
Someone knocked on her window, and that made Alya sit up. Only two people ever did that.
Usually such a visit would make her excited, but tonight it only filled her with nerves. Had the superheroes heard of her outburst at school? Did they think she went too far?
Alya took two deep breaths before approaching the window, where Ladybug was waiting for her. The superhero looked a little nervous, but not angry.
Alya opened the window for her and Ladybug gave a small, awkward wave.
"Can I come in?"
Alya blinked. "Yeah, Yeah, of course you can come in!" She backed away, letting Ladybug crawl into her room.
"Is there anything I can help with?" Alya asked.
"No," Ladybug replied. She sat in the desk chair she usually did when visiting, shifting her weight several times as she did so.
Ladybug's nervous, Alya noted.
Wait, am I making her nervous?
"Listen," Ladybug started. "What I said yesterday - sometimes, what I'm saying gets a little jumbled, and I don't always mean what I say-"
"You mean, say what you mean?" Alya asked, sitting down on her bed.
"Yeah." Ladybug sighed. "And when you - no, sorry, I - I shouldn't start this off with an accusation, should I? I don't know what I'm doing."
"It's okay." Alya leaned forward, giving Ladybug an encouraging pat on her knee. "My friends get nervous all the time."
In fact, Ladybug very much reminded her of Marinette right then - the nervous, constant motion, the mixing up her words.
Ladybug gets nervous. It was oddly humanizing.
"Right, okay," Ladybug continued. "I guess I'm trying to apologize here, for being so defensive yesterday. I did not mean to imply that you've been anything less than amazing as a hero, and both me and Chat Noir appreciate your help tremendously."
"Really?" Alya asked, her chest swelling in pride.
Ladybug nodded. "Really. So you have to understand, when I say I want you to be better, it's because I know you can. And because me and Chat - we're starting to become overwhelmed with everything, and out of everyone, I trust you most - except for Chat Noir, of course. And I need your support."
Alya straightened up. That was a huge responsibility, but she knew she was up for it.
"I will do whatever I can to support you, Ladybug," Alya said.
Ladybug smiled. "I know. But what I'm talking about is a big responsibility, and there's been times where I - I know you're up to it, but you have to be a little more careful about who to trust."
Alya nodded. "Right. I know I'm a lot more trusting than some of my friends sometimes, but I promise I haven't told anyone about my secret identity. Except for Nino, but he's really trustworthy too!"
"I know, I know," Ladybug assured her. "But yesterday, when you brought up that rumor you heard somewhere-"
"I know," Alya sighed. "Not my greatest moment. I was just - shocked."
"The girl who told you that - do you trust her?"
Now that was a question.
Alya hesitated. Did she?
"I mean, I like to believe I can trust most people. I've always believed in seeing the best in people, but I'll admit, there's been some things that have tested my faith in her. For one, my best friend Marinette - you met her, she set up that first interview we did! - doesn't like her, and then there's the whole spiel about Ryuko yesterday. But I don't know, it seems wrong to exclude someone just because they're trying to fit in - and that's the thing, she's the new girl. Or was, at least. And moving to a new school is scary, and I want to make sure she feels welcome, because Marinette and everyone was so nice to me when I moved the last time, but - ugh, why does it have to be so complicated." Alya sighed. "I just want to be able to, I don't know, be nice to people without it being a whole thing. But it never works that way!" Alya frowned. "I did yell at Chloe today, though."
Ladybug chuckled. "Everyone lost their temper with Chloe today. I wouldn't worry about it."
Alya chuckled. "She was a force to be reckoned with today."
"Tell me about it," Ladybug agreed. "Just be careful, okay? I - I don't want to see you get hurt."
"I think I've proven I can handle myself."
At that exact moment, with Ladybug hanging out in her room like they were college buddies, was the moment Alya's mom decided to poke her head in.
"Hey Alya, I just wanted to ch-" her eyes went wide. "Uh - hello, Ladybug. Is there anything we can help you with?"
Ladybug gave a polite smile. "No, Ms Cesaire, we're just catching up on some blog-related news."
Alya's mom beamed. "It is an amazing blog, isn't it? We're super proud of all Alya has achieved."
Alya felt a smile creep across her face.
"You should be," Ladybug agreed. "She's an impressive person."
Did I die and go to heaven? Did Ladybug just compliment me? In front of my mom?
This is the greatest moment of my life.
"I'll leave you two to it, then."
Her mom closed the door, and Alya tried to school her expression back to something professional.
"You should be proud of yourself, you know?" Ladybug said. "You have done a lot, both as a blogger and as Rena Rouge."
"Th-thank you," Alya stuttered, her grin coming back on her face.
"No, thank you." Ladybug stood up and headed to the window. "I'll see you around."
"Yeah, see you around."
.
Refreshed was not the word Chloe would use, but she did feel better when her alarm went off the next morning.
She turned it off, swinging her legs over the side of the bed, and slipping her feet into her favorite pair of slippers. On the other side of the bed, Lacy was still fast asleep.
Chloe sighed, taking a moment to stretch her neck and arms. She debated whether to wake Lacy or leave her sleeping, but eventually decided that she didn't want to have to sneak around all morning.
She shoved Lacy in the arm, but Lacy didn't twitch. Chloe shook her arm once, but no movement.
Chloe sighed in exasperation. She did not have the patience for this.
"Lacy!" She called, moving right up to the other girl's ear.
That caused her to twitch, and eventually Lacy cracked open an eye.
"Chloe," she grumbled. "G'morning."
"Good morning to you, sleeping beauty," Chloe commented. "Come on, Jean-Luc should be up with breakfast for us soon."
Lacy pushed herself up. "Breakfast sounds good."
"And then I'm doing your hair and makeup," Chloe decided.
Lacy looked at her for a moment, expressionless, before yawning and plopping her head back onto the pillow.
"Oh come on, it's not even that early!" Chloe complained, snatching the pillow from under Lacy.
"I'm awake, I swear," Lacy replied.
Chloe (playfully) hit her with a pillow. Lacy moaned, but didn't move.
"This is why you're always late, you know," Chloe grumbled, moving from the bed and towards her mirror.
"Fine, fine." Lacy swung her legs over the bed, and yawned again. "I'm up. See?"
Chloe sighed, turning back to her mirror to start untangling her hair. She glanced over her shoulder again, and saw that Lacy had plopped back down again.
Chloe gave up on trying to wake Lacy before breakfast. When her butler appeared with breakfast, the smell jolted Lacy awake. The butler set them up for breakfast on the patio, and Lacy marveled at the view.
"Paris is so beautiful," Lacy muttered as she sat down. She was wearing her usual gray jacket over the ladybug pajamas she had borrowed from Chloe, her hair still a bedhead. Chloe mentally ran over how she was going do her hair, and what clothes she could lend her (just this once!).
Lacy noticed her looking and raised an eyebrow. "What?"
"Just thinking what I'm going to do with your hair," Chloe admitted.
"Woah, I did not agree to let anyone mess with my hair."
"Oh come on," Chloe whined. "It's kinda a girls night thing, isn't it?"
Lacy hesitated, but eventually relented.
"But only if I get to do yours too!"
"Uh no," Chloe replied. "No one touches my hair."
Lacy crossed her arms and gave Chloe a defiant look, and Chloe was surprised when she found herself relenting.
"Fine. But it better look nice!"
Lacy smiled. "Deal."
.
Marinette was in a moderately happy mood the next morning.
It was threatening to rain, and she was still wary of Chloe's recent Chloe-ness, but she had made things with Alya a little better the previous night, and she made it to school ten minutes before the bell rang!
Alya arrived just after she did, and the two girls exchanged bright, genuine smiles before heading in to class together.
Alya grumbled when she saw who was already there. "I can't believe both you and Lacy beat me to school today."
Lacy turned from her conversation with Alix and Kim when she heard her name and gave Alya and Marinette a bright smile and wave.
"She does seem more awake than usual," Marinette noted. She slid into her normal seat, and when Alya hesitated, invited her to the one next to her.
Nino looked back with a little pout, but didn't say anything.
Max entered the room, giving Marinette a confused look before taking his seat.
Marinette sighed. "I'm not always that late, you know?"
"Yeah, you kinda are," Alya teased.
"Hey, I beat you today," Marinette countered.
Alya grinned. "You must be wearing off on me then."
The girls both giggled.
"I've missed you, girl," Alya said.
"Me too," Marinette agreed.
"Listen, I know I already apologized, but-"
"It's okay," Marinette interrupted. "I know you're just making sure everyone is included, and while what you did was wrong, I know you won't do it again."
Alya shook her head. "No, of course not. Your space is your space."
"Thank you," Marinette said. "And if I ever invade your space-"
"I'll let you know," Alya confirmed.
Miss Bustier walked into the room, and she gave Alya and Marinette a bright smile.
"I'm so glad you two made up," she declared.
Marinette smiled. "So are we."
Adrien came in a few seconds later, slipping into his seat next to Nino, and Lila followed soon after.
She stopped when she saw Alya and Marinette sitting together.
"Oh, Marinette, I'm so glad you apologized to Alya," Lila declared.
Marinette sighed.
"Actually, I apologized to her," Alya admitted.
"But you did nothing wrong?" Lila questioned.
Alya sighed. "I appreciate the concern, girl, but our friendship is really only between us." Alya turned to Marinette. "Right, girl?"
Marinette nodded. "Right."
Lila looked stunned, and she was uncharacteristically quiet as she took her seat in the back.
"Alright, now that we're all here, let's start with our morning exercise," Bustier declared. "Let's see who's first - Alya, and Chloe!"
Marinette deflated. That was bound to put everyone in a bad mood.
Alya scowled as she stood up, and walked up to the front of the classroom. Chloe also stood up, and Marinette noticed that she looked different - she wore her hair in a more stylized, loose ponytail, wore gold makeup instead of blue, and had on a black shirt with her khakis instead of that horrible white. She looked almost nice.
"I'm not complimenting her," Alya said, crossing her arms. "She was nothing but rude yesterday, to everyone. She can't expect us to just drop that and-"
"Alya," Bustier interrupted. "This is a new day, and this exercise is intended to start everyone off with a good thought. Holding onto a grudge from yesterday will not help anybody."
"It's okay," Chloe said. "I don't need Cesaire's opinion to feel good about myself, I already know I'm awesome." She flipped her hair back over her shoulder. "I can still give my compliment." She studied Alya for a moment. "Cesaire, ugh, if I must compliment you on something, then I guess your Ladyblog-thingie is cool. As one of Ladybug's superheroes, I have personal knowledge of how much she likes your blog."
Marinette blinked. That... sounded like an actual compliment?
"Though I do think you need more Queen Bee content on it," Chloe finished. She sat back down at her seat, flicking her hair one more time.
"Thank you, Chloe," Bustier said, with a bright smile. "That was a wonderful compliment."
Alya looked as stunned as Marinette felt. She blinked a few times, before dazedly heading back to her seat. Halfway there, she paused.
"Hey Chloe," Alya said. "I think your hair looks nice."
Chloe grinned smugly. "Of course it does, but thank you."
Alya shook her head, still dazed, and took her seat next to Marinette.
"Did I imagine that?" Alya whispered.
"Nope," Marinette replied. "I think Chloe just paid you a genuine compliment."

Rant.
Okay, I swear I’m not trying to start anything or be a bitch, but honestly I’m tired of seeing the same negative crap. I get it, Lee is older than Jerome and her name isn’t Harleen and all the other stuff everyone is pointing out. But you have to have an open mind when it comes to Gotham.. anything is possible. I’m not hating on other people’s ideas, I love all of the ideas except the Barbara theories. I love her character, but I just don’t see her as Harley.
What everyone needs to realize is we’re more than likely not gonna have someone new as Harley, which a lot of you want. That's fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I highly doubt it will happen (If it does that would be cool) because the writers themselves said that it’s someone that we thought we have known and loved for a long time, we just didn’t recognize them as Harley. “ You may have already seen Harley as a person that you thought you had met and known for a long time. So we always reserve the right to sort of do that as well.” This is a direct quote from Ken Woodruff, One of Gotham's producers. He could have been trying to trick us, possibly, but I doubt he would have said that if it wasn’t true.
I don’t think Lee is gonna be Harley just because I love her. I think she is gonna be Harley because of the facts. Out of every option, she matches the most. I’m not in any way saying I’m right, in fact, I’m more than likely wrong.. but until they prove me wrong I will stick by my theory.
Let me go over each point.
Her characteristics: Now her name may not be Harleen.. but her name is VERY close to Harley. Her nickname is literally the end word for Harley (Harlee). Harley is a psychiatrist, and Lee is a doctor, but she's had some trauma training. Even though it's not her area of focus, she still has shown a lot of psychiatric characteristics. Like in season one, when she first meets Barbara, she keeps telling Barbara that she needs to go to therapy and talk to someone about what happened with Jason. Barbara wouldn't do it unless Lee was the one she talked to, which we all know why now, but regardless she did it. Then Alfred called her when he thought Bruce needed someone to talk to. I've noticed she's always giving professional advice when she thinks someone needs to be in therapy or get medical help. She may not have blonde hair and blue eyes but come on guys.. Lee is beyond beautiful. Plus Harley herself even said that she's not a real blonde. Also, Lee is very intellegent.. both her and Harley have that listed as one of their abilities. Harley is known to be obsessed with things.. if you were to look up her mental condition it would say obsession. Direct quote from Lee: "I tend to get overly enthusiastic about things, it's an issue for me. My mom always said.. Oh, who gives a crap about what my mom said, right?"
Age: Now about the age, honestly people.. do you really think Jerome, a psychotic criminal, would care about age? Honestly just think about it. Why would a deranged killer even think twice about age, especially if HE'S the one coming on to the older women? This is the same guy that flirted with Barbara, an older woman, and even flirted with Lee who is, in fact, an older woman. In my opinion, he seems to like older women anyway. And you know how some girls grow up either with a bad father, or an absent father, and they end up having daddy issues? Well, Jerome may have mommy issues due to how his mother treated him. Not saying that's the case, but it's possible. Also Jerome and Lee are both of age, so it wouldn’t be illegal. And Cameron and Morena are of age as well.
Coincidence or Foreshadow: I believe Gotham gives us clues and foreshadows things a lot. Like how Lee was introduced only SIX episodes before Jerome was introduced. Plus she was part of the entire circus (Jerome) case. She was there with Jim when the fight broke out, she was there when Jerome was first introduced, she was there when Jim found the weapon (because she kept pestering him for them to go look for it), and she was there when Jerome got interrogated. Jerome's case was the first and last time that she went into the interrogation room. Why would the writers pick his case out of all the other cases for her to be in the room? And for it to be the only time at that. Not only was she in the room, but she liked it. She has a small smile/smirk in a few scenes.. meaning it interested her. She even says "It was ugly.. but it was also kind of thrilling." Talking about what happened in the interrogation room. Also, Harley has a sister who keeps her and Jokers daughter, Lucy, in the future. Lee mentions she has a sister, who's recipe she used on their date night (Once again, The one time she mentions she has a sister, is in Jerome's episode.) Let's not forget she is the one Jerome takes hostage when he comes back alive. She is the very first person he has a casual conversation with since he came back from the dead. Not only that, but she is the ONLY person that he came in contact with that he didn't kill. He didn't even hurt her. He had more than enough reason to kill her, or even hurt her, because that would have been the best way to get at Jim, but all he did was tie her to the table. Let's not forget when they met for the very first time, she was the one to comfort him (hold him) when they found Lila's body. She was also the one Jerome and Barbara took hostage at the Gala. What Jim says to her makes me think it is a big clue.. "Don't let your hatred of me turn you into something you're not."
She adds up with all the things the producers have hinted. Lee has been changing right before our eyes.. I’ve noticed she's different in every season. In season one she was this corky, sarcastic doctor who loved crime. "What can I say, you had me at Homicide." In season two she was still sweet and a little corky but she was also a little more confident and dark. Season three it’s like she’s a completely different person. She’s way more confident and she’s definitely darker and more sarcastic. Watch all three seasons and you’ll see a big difference and know what I’m talking about.  The writers also said that Harley would be connected to the Joker Cult World. This means she will be connected to Jerome in some way. She’s met Jerome at least four times, and she's interacted with him once. Not to mention that their first interaction (with them actually having a conversation) was flirty, and she wasn’t scared of him like a normal person would have been. The writers said that Harley’s appearance on the show is gonna be the ‘launching point’ for season four. John Stephens promises “It’s crazy.” A short quote, but effective. Now I don’t know about you, but Lee going crazy seems like a pretty good launching point to me. And it would definitely be crazy because she is a loved character that people would least expect. Also, Lee has definitely experienced enough trauma to make her snap. She lost her baby, her husband was shot and killed right next to her by her ex-fiancé, etc.. Let's not forget that Mario's blood landed on her cheek and also she’s kissed him. Both are ways to get the virus.. so she's more than likely gonna get it, if she doesn't already have it. Also, she hates Jim.. I really don't see her going back to him after everything. I actually can see her going back to Arkham to work because she is either assigned there by Harvey, or she does it on her own so she can get away from Jim.
Hints from Morena: First she posted a picture of Lee and Jerome where she was obviously looking at Jerome's penis and the caption was "What am I looking at??" and she tagged Cameron in it. Then two pictures after that one she posted a picture of her wearing red and black. Red and black nails, and her shirt was red and she was wearing a black blazer over it. Also her, Jessica, Maggie, and Erin all went out. Barbara, Tabitha, and Ivy are bad girls on the show, and Lee is good (for now anyway.) I think she was giving us hints because in almost every picture of the four, Jessica and Erin were kind of grouped together, and Morena and Maggie were kind of grouped together. We all know Barbara and Tabitha have an off and on romantic relationship in the show. We also know Harley and Ivy are known to have an off and on romantic relationship. In one picture Erin and Jessica (Barbara and Tabitha) are leaning against one another, and Maggie and Morena (Ivy and Lee, possible Harley) are leaning against one another. I noticed they were always grouped like that except for in one picture. Then she recently posted a picture of her and the actor that plays Jervis on the show. You would think it's a normal selfie with a fellow cast mate, but her caption makes me think otherwise. In the picture is Lee and Jervis (with his Arkham uniform on) and the caption is a hat emoji and a police officer emoji beside it. Then she spaced and put a female symbol emoji and (I can't tell what the second emoji is) and a needle beside it. Then she put a space and then a heart. The hat emoji is meaning Mad Hatter and the Police emoji makes me think of Arkham or security. Then the female sign and needle mean female doctor. I take this as a hint that she is going back to Arkham.
And to those saying that Morena doesn't have what it takes to be Harley, watch more of her movies and you'll see Morena is a phenomenal actress. She definitely has the skill to be able to play Harley. Watch her in Deadpool.
My mind is foggy right now, so this is probably very unorganized.. but these are just a few things I wanted to put. I probably have more, but this is all I can think of for now. I understand everyone has different opinions and theories, and I respect that, but please be respectful of my theory. I'm not making this stuff up, I'm basing my theory off of facts and what clues we've been given. It's not that far fetched if you keep an open mind and really think about it. :)

Miraculous: Chat Blanc (Sequel to Heartstring) > Four
Masterlist
Unlocking the hatch, Marinette slowly pushed the trapdoor open, peeking out from the space. The sight of black boots tipped in silver made her sigh in relief, as she brought her full head out into the open.
Climbing out, Chat Noir held out a hand, which she graciously took. Their height difference meant that the male was glancing down at Marinette, as she turned her head up to meet his eyes.
Before he could get entranced by the bluebell orbs, a confused voice called out, "Chat Noir?"
He broke eye contact, right as she asked, "What are you doing here? Is there an akuma?"
Marinette inwardly curse Hawk Moth, pondering as to why the man had to akumatize more than one Parisian in a day.
"No, no," Adrien assured, "I just wanted to make sure you were alright after your friend was akumatized earlier today."
"Oh! Yeah, I'm fine!" Marinette said, scratching the back of her neck, despite the fact that a whirlwind of thoughts were causing turmoil in her head.
Noticing the setting sun behind Chat Noir, Marinette questioned, "Do you want to come inside for a while? Wouldn't want you to get cold while we talk."
Surprised by the offer, he could only bring himself to nod, as his classmate reopened the trapdoor leading to her bedroom and gestured for him to follow. The slight creak of the hinges sounded, whilst his slit eyes scanned the area. Though he couldn't see much of the walls, the first thing that caught him off guard was the sight of different pictures pinned to the corkboard beside the bed.
One was a selfie of Marinette and Kagami, right next to an image showing Gina Dupain and her granddaughter hugging with warm expressions on their faces. Distracted from the new look, he almost didn't catch the faint voice of Marinette saying, "You can come down onto the chaise, Chat."
Shaking his head slightly, he crawled on his knees across the matress, the surface sinking wherever he pressured it. Clambering down the ladder, he caught Marinette standing there with a small smile gracing her features, dimples on her freckled cheeks.
"I'm going to go get some cookies from downstairs," she informed, "Just wait here, I'll be back soon." Turning, she began to walk towards the hatch on the ground, sending him a quick wave before disappearing.
Pulling out his baton, he checked the time, deeming it early enough to be able to relax on the soft chaise. Settling on the material, he closed his eyelids, a purr forming in his throat. Before he could let it out, a flicker of red in his peripheral vision made him start, where he suddenly noticed the wall directly in front of his form.
Eyes widening behind the mask, Chat slowly stood, edging towards one wall. Littered across it were photos of students he knew, some well and some vaguely. However, what really caught his attention was the lack of magazine clippings of Adrien Agreste, or images of his face at all.
Gazing about, Chat Noir realised that any photos of Alya were removed, along with anything linking to his classmates in any way. The fact that he had less of a presence in the room made something in his heart weigh heavy, but before he could feel the full extent of it, Marinette entering through the hatch broke him out of his reverie.
A tray of chocolate-chip cookies in hand, she strolled to her desk, sitting on the chair. Rolling it over to where he was standing, she held out the treats, asking, "Cookies? They've got chocolate chips!"
He could only stare, baffled at her carefree demeanour. Noticing his floundering, her brow furrowed in worry. "Are you okay, Chat?"
"What happened to everything on your walls? I thoughts they were covered with Adrien Agreste, weren't they?"
Faintly chuckling, Marinette answered, "Yeah, but I decided to redecorate."
For some reason, the reply made some of the tension roll off his shoulders, as he joked, "Something happen to spur that sudden decision?"
Pointedly sneaking glances at a nearby image of Luka Couffaine, Marinette could only blush at his implication, though it was mainly true.
"Maybe..."
Chat Noir chuckled, placing a clawed hand on his chest, teasing, "And here I thought I was the one you loved!"
Giggling, Marinette nodded through her breaths, as she held out the tray of delicacies out again. Blushing in embarrassment, he took one, placing it on his tongue.
Immediately, a sweet taste tickled his taste buds, making him moan in delight. "As good as always, Princess."
Grinning at the compliment, she made her way over to the chaise, patting her lap. Chat Noir got the message, walking over until he was draped over her thighs, legs lying across the furniture. He closed his eyes, sighing when thin fingers stroked through his blonde locks.
"So..." Marinette started, beginning to pet Chat's faux ears, "I'm guessing you want to know how I'm going to deal with the 'Lila situation', right?"
Eyes shooting open, he met the amused stare of his classmate, who smirked and reached her hands to the hair behind his actual ears. Fingering through the strands, he couldn't help but purr as a response, making Marinette stifle a laugh.
"I'm taking that as a yes, Minou."
Said kitten could only nod, too distracted by the soothing gestures made by the female.
"The thing is..."
Chat Noir waited silently for a few seconds for her to carry on, but was soon startled by the fact that her stroking had stopped. Butting her hand with his head, she suddenly broke out of her thoughts, giving him in apologetic smile and resuming the earlier movements.
"I'm not sure I want to forgive them," she said, yet soon fumbled, "I mean, yeah! They didn't know Lila was lying, but they did write me off as jealous because of my huge crush on Adrien at the time, and then also believed her claims against me! I just, don't know! What if they say I'm being petty, or rude, or-"
Clawed hands cupping her cheek brought her out of her rambling, where she saw the noticeably red face of Chat Noir. Placing a hand on his forehead, she briefly frowned at the temperature, until the hero assured, "Princess, you're well within your rights not to forgive them."
Biting her lip, she turned her head the other way, however, it was directed again in the same direction as Chat by his hand. He gazed into her blue irises, thankfully not a vibrant green anymore, stating, "The way they turned their backs on you was not fair."
Before Marinette could spew another defence for her classmates, her partner shushed her gently. "I was there, Princess. I heard every lie she told about herself, and especially about you," he explained, "I had no idea that she threatened you, and trust me, if all it took was a few simple tales to get your childhood friends to believe you're a bully, they aren't very good people."
In a daze, she listened to his speech, and by the end of it, tears were glistening in her eyes. "Just know, that if you ever need a friend, or somone who'll be there by your side, it'll be me," Chat promised, "Whether it's to stand up for you, or just to be assured that I believe in you."
She threw her arms around his body, burying her head in his chest. "Thank you, Chat. You have no idea how hard it's been to find someone who'll stick by my side throughout everything I go through."
Her warmth caused a purr to rumble in his chest, which he didn't bother to silence. Marinette chuckled, wiping away a stray tear, as Chat Noir scooped her up and began to ascend the ladder to her bed. Leaning against his frame, a small smile lit up her face, which Chat Noir acknowledged.
It made his heart perform a few backflips at the sight of the action, and a flush to form on his cheeks. Mentally questioning the rush of sudden emotion, he pulled back the duvet atop her bed, carefully and gently placing Marinette on the bouncy matress. Allowing her to curl snuggly beneath the blanket, he leaned down to press a delicate kiss on her forehead, almost tempted to do the action again but on the slightly wide lips she had open.
Shaking his head, he gave her a genuine smile, corners of his eyes creasing from the joy he expressed. "Sorry Princess, but it looks like your Knight has to go before the sun rises."
Sitting back up, Marinette said, "No, no. You can stay, it's fine! Am I boring you, is that why you want to go? Or is it that I'm talking too much? 'Cause I'm sure I can-"
A peck on her cheek silenced her, as Chat Noir responded with, "I can never get bored with you, Mari. You're just tired, and I wouldn't want to make you late to school."
Prepared to deny, she or Chat were not prepared for the cute yawn that escaped her mouth, causing her to cover it whilst Adrien's face burned a bright pink.
"Bonne nuit, Princess," he bidded, pulling the covers over her form. Sighing in contentment, Marinette nestled into the heat, sending him a sleepy smile that made the familiar feeling in his heart start up again.
"Night, Minou."
Chat Noir opened up the trapdoor, exiting the bedroom and making sure no cold seeped into the building from the outside. He lingered for a moment, staring longily at Marinette through the window of the hatch. Letting out a sigh, he beamed one last time, before vaulting across the rooftops to the Agreste Mansion once again.
