some leverage: redemption reactions

i finished leverage redemption today! and i don't have anyone to talk to about it so, here we have my reactions for all eight episodes, both positive and negative. please feel free to reblog/comment -- discussions are what i'm here for! (under a cut because spoilers and also this ended up being 2k. whoops!)

EPISODE 1: the too many rembrandts job

the "aww, this guy is trying to pull his first heist! how cute" job

what they chose to do with nate was... interesting. it might just be that i read too many of those cracky "here's how they should explain nate's absence" posts, but i was expecting something funny. the grief permeating this episode -- it makes SENSE, but it was still weird. leverage doesn't usually have sadness like this. pain, yes, rage, certainly, but sadness? not usually

the way sophie immediately spots the signs of a con and slips into a character? phenomenal. i'm here for EXPERTS BEING EXPERTS and this show does NOT disappoint

harry wilson is a really solid character! most impressively, he's not flynn, which is impressive enough that i'm making a whole bullet point about it. i was worried that noah wyle was kinda a one-trick pony, but it appears not! good for him tbh

i'm LIVING for the ot3 moments in this episode. "what happened?" "we happened" YESSSSS!!! i wish we'd had more domesticity, but i know they did what they could

"he gets it from his father" FUCK!!!!!

the discussion about redemption in this episode is FANTASTIC but personally i am still delirious with excitement about "my nana leads a multi-denominational household" so expect those thoughts in 3-5 business days

EPISODE 2: the panamanian monkey job

the "flash electropop concert" job

BREANNA INTRODUCTION! i love her so MUCH, y'all. we only got to see her dynamic with hardison in this one episode, but man, it manages to be one of her best dynamics anyway. i just! i love her! i love the way the team works with her!

"in our field, you're one of the best. but there, you're the only one." god we have ELIOT/HARDISON rights and i am NOT OKAY. just!! them!!!!!! being supportive!!!!!! they have learned how to be sweet with each other! they work together so much better (in part because we're seeing them from harry's outsider pov instead of nate's insider pov, but STILL)

midway through this episode, i thought "huh, leverage always focuses on specific people, when really the problem is systematic, and pretending it's anything different is just an excuse to not fight for change". and then at the end harry talks about how the system itself is broken! i love knowing that john rogers and i were reading the same tweets last summer. it's a good feeling to trust the people making a piece of media

who let noah wyle speak spanish. whoever it was, they need to rescind their permission

god, the parker/hardison in this episode. THE PARKER/HARDISON IN THIS EPISODE! they KILL me friends they KILL ME!

also just like, hardison in this episode in general. he made a star trek reference! he made a doctor who reference! he decides there are other people who need him more! the way they wrote around gina bellman's maternity leave in s2 was good but this was phenomenal.

also i'm here for ot3 crumbs so "is this like the time when eliot wanted us to say no" is going on my ot3-is-canon conspiracy board

this is a tiny detail but eliot taking out the drone with a goddamn ORANGE was so good. he's so good at his job!! they're all so good at their jobs!! i know i literally just talked about this but AAA

EPISODE 3: the rollin' on the river job

the "sometimes you just want to rob a vault wearing a floofy dress, and that's valid" job

i did... not. like. how the villain in this one was an immigrant whose exploitable weakness was a "desperation" to be included in the upper crust. and the fact that they beat him with a literal southern belle who explicitly beats him BECAUSE her family has been in the area for "hundreds of years"? it just feels Iffy.

also iffy about this episode was breanna's characterization. it felt inconsistent. she feels inconsistent across the whole season, but this episode in particular... she tells harry she's only with the team because she's desperate, that she doesn't believe in hope, and then at the end of the episode she tells parker she wants to be there to change the world. and like, even in the first place, she's not here out of desperation! SHE asked to join the team! like, i can see how it all kinda fits together, but it just feels... inconsistent. idk. i think these scripts all could've benefited from an extra round or two of editing.

anyway! i loved the way they tied hardison into these episodes, even though aldis hodge couldn't be there. he has binders! breanna doesn't want to read them! parker did! he put in big letters, "when in doubt, trust the person in the van". i'm just so !!! about how much i love him and how much he loves his team and how much his team loves him. FOUND FAMILY, BABY!

all inconsistencies in breanna's characterization aside, i really liked her speech at the end. i know how she feels! it's really nice to have someone on the team who's from -- not my world, really, but a lot closer than any of the others. it's a nice feeling! i love her a lot. i hope her writing gets more consistent

lol, parker ate eliot's carrot cake. i love the parker/eliot rights we get in this show, they're so domestic and it's wonderful.

EPISODE 4: the tower job

the "hardison made his partners learn klingon" job

watching this episode was what made me go "they're not going to make us sit through a harry/sophie romance... right? right?"

i'm still not sure they're gonna let us avoid it but it COULD work so... i've decided to just not worry about it for now

i liked the number of ways the con goes wrong! it was fun to watch them work on the fly like that. i think them not having a dedicated Mastermind(tm) is a good watsonian explanation for their plans being pretty haphazard in general, but it's good, they think well on their feet

nate was a chessmaster. he had the whole situation in his mind from the beginning, accounting for every possible outcome. parker and sophie are much more adaptive, and it's cool to see. they can rely on their respective skillsets a lot more than nate could

a really solid episode! probably one of the strongest ones in the season. i liked it a lot.

(ALSO as mentioned above the klingon lines were fantastic and not just because they were a star trek reference -- every time eliot and parker both mentioned hardison, together, it added a year to my lifespan)

EPISODE 5: the paranormal hacktivity job

the "sophie was worryingly prepared to fake her death" job

i know why they characterized the client as a skeptic, i really do, and i loved the format of this episode, but also. But Also. she should've been a love interest for breanna and I'm Right.

having a girl's episode was the CORRECT choice. they do crimes in their free time! they fleece newbie, cruel criminals! it's so good!

it would've been cool to have eliot around for the assassin guy, but it was also cool to see the others take him out without having eliot to rely on. it's like getting to see how they'd take out eliot, if they were ever on opposing sides.

PARKER CANONICALLY USES SCRIPTS IT'S THE BEST THING EVER

breanna bristling about letting the criminal into the theater's electric system was so good god i love her so much. she knows hardware! i bet she likes to work with her hands. i bet she stims. i bet she has adhd

actually, sidenote, but i LOVE these headquarters. they look so nice! the stage is so nice! i loved having an episode set in and around it, it was such a good choice.

EPISODE 6: the card game job

the "FINALLY AN EXPLICITLY QUEER LEVERAGE CHARACTER" job

UNFOLLOW ME NOW THIS IS GONNA BE THE ONLY THING I POST ABOUT FOR THE REST OF TIME

GOD, what a good way to reveal it. it's fully about her! i love queer romances, of course i do, but i don't think i've ever seen a character come out without a romance being their reason for doing so (however indirectly). i still think she should've gotten a date with the client from 1x05, but i really liked this too.

this episode just felt like a love letter to fandom, and i love that. i love how much it shone through. i'm used to writers specifically going out of their way to make fun of fans and laugh at them, so it was just. really nice to have someone stand up and go, no, this is important for a reason! people love this for a reason! it MEANS something!

very fun to watch eliot swordfight. very fun to watch sophie recite a sonnet in her classic fashion. very fun to watch parker work at being a good mentor. breanna was so excited about the card game! they're all so good!

oh, and i guess harry's here too.

EPISODE 7: the double-edged sword job

the "harry is addicted to mobile games, which is a mood" job

hot take alert! i think this is the weakest episode of the season by a LOT. it needed so much more editing. it felt so disjointed, so all over the place. the plot was haphazard but in a muffled way, where you had no idea why they were doing what they were doing. the climax was sudden and didn't make any sense. it was just weird.

i'm not the person to comment on this but it feels kind of lazy to cast an east asian guy to play a socially-awkward tech genius. just a thought.

oh, of course jonathan frakes directed this episode. sometimes his stuff is really good but other times (ahem, ds9 3x02) it's disjointed and all over the place. i'm not even surprised it was him.

idk if i have anything else to say about this. oh! some of the team moments were great -- mostly involving eliot. i loved the moment of him recognizing the headshot, i LOVED the ten seconds of everyone teasing him. he and parker talked about the wellbeing of their friend, the woman whose ex tracked her down!

separate bulletpoint to say how much i LOVED his conversation with breanna outside the house. he's so good at reassuring! he could go deeper there, talking about being better than your worst day, but he knew when not to push! it was so good.

"first off, this guy can't TOUCH hardison" deserves its own bulletpoint because like. y'all. Y'ALL.

EPISODE 8: the mastermind job

the "eliot is more than just a pretty face" job

oh man this post is so much longer than i thought it would be. okay just one more episode and then i'm done.

the callbacks to original leverage were SO well done and made me feel emotions without feeling overbearing.

i didn't like the central premise -- that nate would share so many details with a random insurance agent -- in the first place, but i did like how it allowed them to bring back nate without actually hiring timerty mcasshole.

i liked eliot's insistence that he's more than just the muscle! he is, and it's really good to know, textually, that the writers do too!

me, watching the resolution of the episode: ah, yeah, insurance fraud. a classic!

harry bonding with his guard had "they don't even have dental!" energy and i am SUCH a fan. i know it was all for the con but also give me harry, unable to stop advising people, even when they're actively holding him hostage

parker! on the phone with hardison!!!! ADORABLE

is it just me or was someone else expecting the accountant's name to be something significant? with the way they led up to it, i was waiting for a "sterling" or something else. my sensors were pinging for another tara reveal. i'm still convinced we're gonna get this guy dramatically revealed in the season finale.

a really nice episode! i had a lot of fun with it. and now i want to rewatch the rashamon job, but tbh i ALWAYS want to rewatch the rashamon job.

and that's a wrap! overall, a fun season, i enjoyed it a lot. not as solid as original leverage, but it's the very beginning, and it was put together during a global pandemic, so i'm cutting them some slack. also levar burton is gonna show up at some point. that's a big reason of why i'm cutting them so much slack.

my personal ranking of the episodes is 1x04, 1x06, 1x08, 1x01, 1x02, 1x03, and finally last (and least), 1x07.

Rainbow gazed at the other for a long moment. She saw those beautiful cyan eyes and the pale coat that was dimmed in the dark of night. Her vision blurred, making it impossible to continue her staring at the other any longer.

“No. No, Rainbow, let go of your wing.” A bit of sternness showed through her voice. Rainbow looked down to see the offending appendage in her grasp. Why was she holding her own wing? She dropped it. “Good.” Rainbow Dash did good. Good.

She flinched hard when she felt something touch her hoof, she opened her eyes - When had she shut them? - and saw Fluttershy’s hoof being pulled away from where it had tried to hold hers, “Wait- Don’t-” Rainbow managed, reaching out to grasp the hoof between her own forehooves, “Mine.” she mumbled.

“Okay.” Fluttershy said, “Okay, it’s okay, I’m not going anywhere.”

Go. They needed to go, it isn’t safe. Rainbow just held the hoof tighter.

“We’re going to turn the lights on, o-”

“No!” Rainbow winced at the loud noise that came from herself, “No,” She said much quieter, “We- we can’t. He’s- He’ll-”

“Oh, oh, fledgling. Come here.” Fluttershy concern was clear even as she whispered, “We won’t. We won’t turn the lights on.” She promised.

Rainbow let herself be folded into the arms of the other, unable to hold back hiccups that boarded on sobs. She clung to the other’s hoof as tight as she dared. She needed to keep Fluttershy safe, it wasn’t safe. She muffled her whimpers in the yellow pegasus’ neck and felt one of Flutters’ hooves on the back of her head, slowly petting her mane. Two yellow wings wrapped around her comfortingly.

“Rainbow,” She could feel the vibration of Fluttershy’s voice against her, “Do you know who I am?”

Rainbow nodded barely, face still pressed against the crook of the other’s neck.

“Can you tell me?”

“Fluttershy.” She whispered.

“Yes, that’s right. Good.” Fluttershy said she was good, that’s good. “Can you tell me where we are?”

Where are they? Where was this? She was in a bed. The blanket was still covering her back hooves, she could feel it when she shuffled her legs. She was home. “Home.”

“Where is home?”

Where?

They were yelling. They were yelling and screaming and she wasn’t good, she was bad. They were screaming at her that she was bad. They were going to hurt her. He was going to hurt her.

And now she was in bed. Fluttershy was in bed with her.

“Cottage.” She said eventually, “Ponyville.”

“Yes.” Fluttershy said with relief, “We’re in our cottage in Ponyville. We’re safe. You’re safe.”

Rainbow pulled back, just enough to look at the other, “Safe?” She said more to herself than anyone else.

“Yes, safe.” Fluttershy confirmed, loosening the hold her wing’s had on the other mare.

Rainbow Dash looked around the room, dimly lit by moonlight and alive with worry. Animals blinked up at her from every corner. She was having a nightmare that wasn’t real and she’s safe now, “We can turn the light on.” She said, she winced as she realized how scratchy her voice was from crying.

“Okay,” Fluttershy said, “Angel?” She turned, and the rabbit in question gave an audible huff but jumped up and flicked the switch.

Rainbow jerked her hoof over her eyes at the blinding sensation. The other hoof was still holding Fluttershy’s, she realized, “Sorry,” She mumbled but couldn’t find it in herself to let go, “The thought of losing you scares me.” Her voice cracked a little at those words. SHe wasn’t going to cry again. She wasn’t.

“You have nothing to apologize for, I’m not going anywhere.” Fluttershy said again, she turned to another animal, the whole room was filled with them at this point, likely concerned after hearing their conversation, if you could even call it that, “Could you get her a glass of water, please?” She asked.

“I’m sorry I woke you up.”

“You were having a nightmare.”

“I still woke you.”

Fluttershy looked at her, a little incredulously, “I’m glad you did, I wanted to help you. You would do the same for me. You do the same for me when I have panic attacks.”

She did. She’d do anything for Fluttershy. Rainbow would fly to the end of Equestria and back for the mare, she would chop off both her wings if it meant helping the other, and of course she’d help her through any nightmare or panic attack at the drop of a feather.

Speaking of wings.

Rainbow flexed hers awkwardly, wincing in pain. Fluttershy looked at her sympathetically. A trio of two birds and a squirrel somehow managed to work together and bring a glass of water to Fluttershy’s side of the bed, “Thank you,” said the kind pony, she held the glass up to Rainbow, “Drink this, I’ll go get the… Oh.”

She smiled and Rainbow Dash followed her gaze to see that two ferrets had jumped onto the foot of the bed, dragging the first aid kit from the bathroom along with them.

“Thank you.” Fluttershy said, giving the water to Rainbow so that she could pick up the box. Rainbow drank, despite feeling like there was a pit in her stomach. She downed the cup in a few gulps and reached over to set it on the bedside table.

Fluttershy had gotten out cream and whatnot to sooth the painful places that once held feathers. Rainbow didn’t know why she pulled out feathers, it didn't make any sense for someone who liked flying so much to do even subconsciously. Apparently it was something with stress and over grooming and was common among anxious pegasi, but all that meant for her was that she may not be able to fly well for a few days if the episode was too bad. That sucks but also doubly sucks considering she’s a weather pony, her job literally requires flight.

She let the other mare treat her like she would one of her animal friends, like she’d done countless times before. Rainbow Dash just watched her work, staring intently at a honestly barely noticeable bald patch with a cotton swab in her grasp, laying some medication on it. Rainbow only pulled out two feathers this time, she’d be fine as long as she didn’t get an infection, and Fluttershy would see to it that she wouldn’t.

Fluttershy. Fluttershy the mare who helped her through every flash back, who helped her escape from that Celestia forsaken place, who cared for innocent animals with as much gusto as she cared for other ponies. Fluttershy, the love of her life. She was kind, and she was wonderful, and she hummed a soft little tune as she capped the medication and set it back with the supplies to give back to the ferrets.

“I love you.” Rainbow breathed, not really trying to say anything, but she could hardly worry about it when it was so true.

Fluttershy smiled at her, “I love you too, fledgling,” She said, placing a kiss on Rainbow’s forehead, “Would you like to go back to sleep?”

Rainbow nodded and Fluttershy slipped under the blanket with her, “Angel?” Rainbow heard her say, and the light turned off, “Thank you, Angel bunny. And every critter, thank you for helping, goodnight.” There was chittering and chattering in response and Rainbow couldn’t help but smile at that.

Fluttershy hummed, finally laying down with her, “What’re you thinking about?”

“You.” Rainbow said, “You’re perfect, I don’t know what I did to deserve you.” She said, a bit sappily, but how could she not be sappy when she had the best pony ever sharing the heat of a bed with her.

“You’re just as perfect.” Fluttershy said, continuing before Rainbow could argue otherwise, “Perfect for me. We’re perfect for each other. You know, we’re meant to be.” She said softly, laying a wing over the blue pegasus to pull her closer.

“We are, aren’t we?” Rainbow grinned.

“Mhm.” The mare agreed, her eyes already shut as she began to succumb to sleep, “Good night, honey.”

“Good night, Flutters.”

Hello there, my dearest Kat ❤️! I’d be so delighted to recommend you more pieces, it makes my little heart so happy that you’re interested in them 🥺💕

I hope you’ll like my selection! I tried to include variety in terms of vibes, nationalities and eras this time (Austrian-Classical, Russian-Romantic and French-19th century), instead of sticking to a single man 🤭 I’ll try to keep it short and simple (no that’s a lie, I won’t be able to 😶)

And thank you so much for your consideration, things have been pretty busy for me indeed so I’m sorry for the extremely late post 😖 And I know that uni is soon starting for you, so likewise, please take your time to listen to the pieces <3

That being said, let’s start~

Mozart - Als Luise die Briefe ihres ungetreuen Liebhabers verbrannte

Of course, it wouldn’t be Req’s post if it didn’t start off with Mozart. This is a short lied like Das Veilchen (the one that I previously shared), the title is long haha and it means “As Luise Was Burning the Letters of Her Unfaithful Lover”. As you can guess from its name, this is really, REALLY dramatic. It’s in c minor, a tonality that Mozart doesn’t use so often (but when he does, oh boy, see his Great Mass in c minor 🤤) but which is perfect for its fierce mood. Also it’s fairly special for me because we used to sing this in our music theory classes haha, I would play the piano accompaniment while practicing with the classmates before every oral exam.

I truly adore this lied. The lyrics are once again taken from a poem, a poem of Gabriele von Baumberg, she apparently wrote it at a very young age (18 or so).

My heart melts at 00.34 omg, that soft “melancholie” and the silence that comes after 🥺… It’s truly one of those silences that make you agree with Mozart’s quote:

The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between.

Then, it takes a cheerful turn (he just can’t refrain from putting happy sprinkles 🤭) until the strong chord at 00.49.

I think the section that starts at 01.00 is so worthy of being noted, I love love LOVE the suspense and tension that the piano accompaniment creates and that finishes with a strong build-up.

And the chord at 01.32… I leave my heart there. It just has me so soft. It’s so bittersweet, Mozart for some reason repeats the phrase “May smoulder long yet in my heart.” twice at the end and it’s just- 🥺

As always, he knows so well what word must be cited with what emotion, and chooses carefully his chords and functions. I just love it, and wanted to share since you had liked the previous lied 🤭

Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto No. 2

*inhale* This one’s gonna be long, I can feel it.

I have literally SO MANY things to say about this one.

Rachmaninoff is a famous Russian composer that you might have heard of. He’s part of the Romantic Era which is, to simplify, about pouring your emotions and the turmoils in your life into your art and depicting feelings instead of trying to stick to certain rules and ‘holy’ virtues, of which we had already talked about a bit hehe.

And this piece… Oh my. You’ll see how different this concerto is compared to the Mozart ones we listened to previously. His second piano concerto corresponds to a depressive episode of his, due to his works not having a big success and being criticised so harshly. This beautiful piece is his comeback work, and you can just feel the inner conflicts, the emotional tornado he had at that period. With Mozart’s concertos, your soul is purified, they softly caress your insides and comfort you. But here, Rachmaninoff takes your emotions, and he proceeds to crush it. He plays with it, throws it, abuses it, you sob and sob and sob. At least I do 😭.

First movement

One can perfectly sense the dark pessimism in the first, silent, dangerous chord. As the 8 chords come one after another, every single one stronger than the previous, you’re on your toes and the tension increases until finally hearing the main theme through violins at 00.43. Listen to that theme very well. It’s so beautiful, so so moving, the piano section creates a fierce, dangerous background and I always get goosebumps when the violins come in.

Then, at 02.30, the second main theme is heard through the piano, pay attention to that! You will encounter it under various forms through the movement 🤭 It’s much softer compared to the first, ominous theme, it creates a beautiful contrast.

I want to note down the beautiful oboe-piano duet in 04.14 🥺. I adore oboes, it has a really beautiful and soft vibe, and here its melody is just so bittersweet when combined with the piano’s accompaniment. Then at 04.35, the piano starts playing a really soft phrase, the soft touch at that high note at 04.46, oh my God my heart. I have a feeling that you’ll adore that part 🥺 I want to note down literally every second omg

At 05.22, it turns once again really quiet and ominous, foreshadowing a big outburst through a build-up. The flutes play a big role in that aura through their short but dangerous phrases.

I especially adore the part at 06.17 in this pre-outburst section, it’s reminds me of a wave of emotions that keep hitting you and stepping back, only to strike even harder afterwards. The flutes in the background reinforce this vibe. The tension gets higher and higher at 06.36 (omg I’ll faint I love this part, I’m trembling while listening to it and trying to write this at the same time, I can’t keep up with my thoughts aaa) through the constant mutual escalation of both the piano and the orchestra. THE BEAUTY OF THE BUILD-UP PLEASE I WILL LOSE MY MIND.

And all this preparation was for the beautifully passionate part at 07.02. Rachmaninoff notes down “Alla Marcia”, meaning it should be played like a march, and its rhythmic features most certainly have that vibe. It’s just so majestic, so pompous, so raw, I love love LOVE it. It’s almost like you’re swooning in euphoria after having an emotional build-up and breakdown, it’s just- it’s something else that I can’t even describe. I just don’t have the right words for it.

I know that the piano’s melody is so alluring and enchanting there, but maybe in a second listen, I’ll want you to pay attention to the violin part during the march section 👀 Can you hear the very first theme that was introduced at the very beginning of the movement? Rachmaninoff was a total genius to put it in the background and make it fit so well. I always hesitate between paying attention to violins or piano, I end up rewinding it every single time 😖 It’s soo good.

After the euphoric section, the second theme comes again. A thing that’s worth noting down is the flute’s beautiful addition at 07.53, it’s in the background but it just makes my heart melt. I also always get goosebumps at the few ominous, sinister seconds that starts at 09.17 😳

Then it goes pretty quietly until the ending hehe, like a calmness after storm 😌 This piece is a total emotional rollercoaster, I swear. At 11.01, I love the playfulness of the piano section, it’s just so mischievous like a little naughty kitten. Then it picks up the pace, and ends with three strong beats.

Ugh. 🦋🦋🦋

Second movement

This meme says it all. I don’t even need to add anything else. As you know by now, the second movements are meant to create a sharp contrast with the first one’s mood, and 🥺😭.

The main melody… It has my heart. The movement starts with a soft piano-flute introduction, and the ethereal main theme is heard at 12.56 through an oboe.

I don’t really any other commentary to do on this heavenly movement. Just let yourself in its embrace without any technical/guiding worries <3

(Though I feel obliged to add that the part that truly has me in this movement is 22.17 🥺. It’s just so moving and sweet ahh, it just takes you away, it almost has a sentiment of longing I feel, I always have a drop of tear forming in my eyes at that part.)

Third movement

The third movement is a usual, playful, jokester movement hehe. It’s a general pattern for final movements as you might have noticed, even though this one’s not written under a Rondo form. It’s rare that I say this, but I feel like this final movement is as charming as the second one for me 🤭 (No movement surpasses the first movement though, personally of course~)

The theme that starts at 25.51 through violins is so so charismatic, it almost always flusters me 😳✨.

Then he naughtily plays around with themes, modulations and instruments haha, I’ll leave the commentary at that and leave you once again alone with the movement itself 😌

(The majestic comeback of the charismatic theme at 34.09 though 😳! I’m *this* close to thirsting over a theme omg it’s MESMERISING I want to cry.)

Fauré - Cantique de Jean Racine, Op. 11

And finally, to fulfil your wish 💕, here’s a piece from Fauré where you can hear one of the most beautiful usages of harp in a work, in my opinion.

Even though it’s a religious work, its lyrics are in French. Fauré is a French composer from late 19th century, and even though he’s not that well-known among the media he’s a really unique composer that we can’t even classify in a certain movement. He’s from the same era as the French Impressionists such as Debussy or Ravel, but his style is much more different than theirs. He even has his own unique chord chain etc. that we use the term “fauréen” in harmony classes. But anyways, onto the piece 🤭

I really have no proper words to describe how heavenly, ethereal, poetic, incredible, awe-inspiring and soft this piece is. Like oh my God. I feel my heart melting into a puddle and tear up every time I listen to it. I just can’t bring myself to believe that he was only 19 when he composed this for a competition, if my memory doesn’t deceive me.

The beginning with the orchestra and harp is making a truly beautiful beginning, and the first moment that I want to talk about is 01.09, it always gives me goosebumps when the sopranos come in on the background that the basses and tenors had created.

At 02.00, there’s a soft oboe that comes in for a few seconds and only plays four notes, do you hear it? Those four notes can have my heart 🥺. It’s so beautiful omg. It’s crazy how the littlest touch could make such big of a difference. He could’ve easily not put it there, but he did and that’s what makes a good composer.

The “que tout l’enfer” at 02.24 is so fierce, so mad, “enfer” means “hell” and Fauré really accentuated its meaning, I love it.

And when the piece comes to the ending, at 04.14, a soft flute plays the beginning of the main theme for the first time I believe, which is a really enchanting change for the ear.

And the ending is just so, so soft like the whole piece, I truly can’t. The main melody is just so beautiful, and he truly did an impeccable job with mixing all the voices, the orchestra and the beautiful harp together. I just turn into a soft, soft bubble made out of cotton every time I listen to this.

Ahh this was a long ride, I truly hope you enjoyed the pieces, my beloved! I wasn’t sure which style or composers you would like the most, I guess we’ll try and see 😳❤️

okay okay so the moment i first saw this headcanon, i was already swooning over it/thinking twice about it. not because it isn’t true; but it is definitely a fact where i want to be sure of; whether i can clarify it right in my head. but lemme try my best to write out my sub-headcanons for our lil blasty boy.

wanna know what he might do when he’s in his free time? probably watching some gordon ramsay videos. could be hell’s kitchen, kitchen nightmares, or just some videos of gordon cooking up the best dishes. other chefs too! but i just loveee to think that bakugou watches him, and he has a good laugh🥺

like every cook, i feel like he has grown up while also going through some failures when cooking. maybe he wanted to try something new! or he saw something really interesting online or on tv, and he was like, ‘hm. i can do that too.’

and he would immediately try it; even though his mother and him had this whole fight of ‘i’m touching the stove now, hands off.’ and you guessed it, most times, when trying something very new, he tends to fail, OR maybe miss a little detail or two!! but then again, there’s nothing wrong with that, because it takes time and enough training. also patience.

and when he finally learns them, he is CELEBRATING !!! and if he had an s/o, he’d let them know about it and they would probably be doing this happy dance together jacsvxhd😭

ah yes! speaking of patience, i can see when he cooks, he is in his calm and composed manner. nothing should be bothering him, his whole heart, mind and soul is in this world of his and no one is here to take him out of it. do so and they’re getting an earful of screams🤧

okay and what about his s/o?? he would go all out for them. he secretly learns of the dishes you like and dislike, he keeps track of what you’re allergic to and also not (adding this in because i have some allergies too hehe) and theN he pops off. gourmet dishes coming your way!!

another reason why he would want to continue cooking is because he finds it wholesome to actually try and show his love through this skill of his. like yes, he does show love to you all the time, but he wants you to eat healthy, to have a balanced diet and all, so he would never, never want to give up cooking for you🥰

remember that one episode where he’s chopping carrots like the literal genius he is? (i think i just stroked his ego :3) yeah, that one. he probably got that skill from his mother! maybe when he was little he just loved watching her cook, so when he noticed how fast she tirelessly worked on the vegetables, he was in complete awe.

most of his inspirations - all in all - are mostly from chefs and also his mother, but of course he has never told his mother about it; but he’s more than happy to actually learn so much more from her, and will continue to do so for as long as he could.

and if you know how to cook?? oof, you’re in for a session where you both cook together!!! he would teach you if you didn’t know, but if you did, he would love to see how talented you really are. he would be so proud of you aaa💕

rewatching decadence

ep1: so... indoctrinating kids that they life their life in service to an upper class. also like, the way deca dence takes care of giant gadoll is to punch it like no giant sword or laser canon or anything just the power of a giant mountain sized fist. this show actually has some good foreshadowing from seeing Natsume from the perspective of Kaburagi’s hud, to Natsume’s dad (Muno) finding the Solid Quake logo at the beginning of the episode and the logo again being shown in the last shot at the announcement signs off with have a profitable day which is a weird public safety announcement but makes sense as a company slogan. I’m still not sure what the “TIME 1:00 POINT SE,07,G” means. I didn’t write it down last time because I was unsure of myself, but my first thought when the cyborgs showed up was VR chatroom for the upper class.

ep2: yeahs that’s totally an advertisement that plays right after natsume realizes the human costs of war as the tankers pay respects to the fallen. I realized what it was with the cartoony designs, the bright colors and patterns, the funky shapes of all the structures aboard the space ship, it looks like a tv show for toddlers. inoffensive and deliberately cheerful to distract from the horrors of a corporation owning your person. the eng subtitles are confusing here it should be “real death(simulation) awaits” in that the company is advertising being able to experience death but not have any of its permanent consequences as a feature of the game. The cyborgs are corporate wage slaves being compensated for their labor in company credits and the only other things we seen them do outside of work is play the company’s mmo, or recreational drugs. “I should be proud of my function and to be scrapped” as property of the company. aaaa that’s terrible. aaa. what are cyborg cores??? and why are they valuable. Solid Quake has no control over the core, only the cyborg’s housing. Is it that they cannot produce more? Considering the others on the team got executed for sentenced to an eternal forced labor camp with appalling conditions, Minato really did pull some strings for Kaburagi. ooh so “time until scrapping” and “operational limit near are two different warnings. the first is a general reminder of lifespan and the second is because oxyone levels are low. now its “TIME 20:00 POINT SE,05,I”. all those new gadoll events probably wreck havoc on the tanker economy. its 400c now and i think it was 500 for 2 earlier. First time through I wasn’t paying attention and totally thought kaburagi was an assassin, but no he’s just clean up crew. ahh yes, come spend you wages at the company run stores. micro transactions... wait so where were people getting the number 13 from?

ep3: ah yes Solid Quake charges to use the media center, truly a micro transaction hell. Natsume’s character arc is about whether to push herself or not. Here Fei acts as part of a continuing dialectic saying that Tankers have no place outside of Deca-Dence, that sooner of later Natsume will die from it, and once again highlighting Natsume’s right arm. In the other level of this though, tankers shouldn’t go outside because that’s not their role in the solid quake mmo, and those who would disrupt the mmo are killed. I like how you can see Kaburagi switch from videogame logic (oh she’s low level so let’s just stick her in the tutorial zone) to real life (what skills and experiences would help in fighting). So several corporations took advantage of desperate people to sell them a service that would augment them with mechanical parts. I get that pipe in a little outfit is funny, but does no one really realize its a gadoll, i meant natsume recognizes it instantly. like the scene where Natsume talks about her right arm, the anime does a good job of showing how her feeling about it are complicated. She’s lived with that arm for years, but it also hinders her sometimes, and people will comment about it. there’s this specific type of humor that pops up in this show and given how its the same joke, my guess is that its the same person behind it. The “joke” being that Natsume is put in a position that references sexual assault. The first is with fennel where she makes up an excuse of having to go see kaburagi to get away from him. And then there’s this episode. There’s also a few stray lines here and there that alarm me in that they imply Natsume has dealt with the threat of assault before. Since they didn’t do anything meaningful with this, I’d rather it just not be there. Minato is in on the secret of Pipe’s existence and by the way the two talk, they’ve called each other before in the last 7 years. Its good to know that Kaburagi wasn’t JUST brooding for 7 years and that the two of them stayed in contact.

ep4: Natsume after having gained confidence in herself takes down several gadoll and earns her place in The Power. Its a fulfilling payoff after seeing her train for several episodes. Natsume is where she always wanted to be, fighting gadoll in the Power. gahh It really is a patch release trailer. Ohh so I assumed that the other structures on the cartoon earth were other corporations, but in this episode we see one of them (the white and red striped cone thing opposite the deca-dence dome) and the cyborgs there are talking about the game (MMO LARPing lol), so either Solid Quake owns multiple of those structures, or these cyborgs are customers not owned by Solid Quake and playing of their own volition. that would makes the cone cyborgs where solid quake is deriving its profit from since its not like it pays its workers. reading comments online, a lot of people missed that because a ranker was found to be cheating (mikey), the rankings were abolished. In the present time, gears/players are not ranked. Ah so Kaburagi was transferred to the maintenance department from the warrior department. Wow reassignment is so much better than the poop jail. I remember it being said, armor repair, doctor, and weapon shop could be employee(cyborg) run so I wonder if the medics and that one armor shop guy are tankers or not. So this anime already snuck in a sex joke with the when the poop gang swapped kaburagi’s avatar with a sex toy, so i wonder if the safetyprivatemode was made so that the mods wouldn’t have to listen to robot sex. I really wish this show could have had 24 episodes. The trend for the past 20 years has been shorter and shorter shows so I know it would have been likely impossible to get the clearance and funding for 24 eps but oooh in som alternate universe maybe... i brought up fleshing out minor characters and character relationships before but there also stuff like Natsume’s right hand almost clamping on ... Mindy? Which usually would be a narrative flag but is completely dropped because of the episode limit. And the confidence Natsume gained last episode come to work against Kaburagi trying to keep her from the suicide mission. Its only from this point on that Kaburagi starts to really change, as of this point he is still a loyal cog to a machine that does not care about him. Kaburagi and Natsume in the 2nd half of the episode continue the same dialectic that runs through the whole of the show, about giving up and learning to try again, about pushing your limit, about why someone bothers trying. On the collectivist versus individualist spectrum, Deca-Dence is on the individualist side with assertions of the importance for deciding for yourself what you will do with your life. Its an interesting counterpoint to The Twilight Mirage (Friends at the Table) which I am currently listening to in that The Twilight Mirage is a western production and strongly collectivist with one of the antagonist being sort of kind of an embodiment of independence/individualism while japanese works as a whole tend to be more about the whole over the individual than western ones. Kurenai talking about why she fights is very good and very important for 2 reasons, first it help flesh out not only her but offer a very needed other opinion on what its like to live as a Tanker, second it segues nicely into Natsume’s memories of her dad telling her about the outside world and him being the only one to believe she can do it (fight in The Power) as contrasted with flashbacks of all the other characters telling her she can’t. This culminates in Natsume gathering her resolve to fight not because of something grand like changing the world or the fate of humanity, but something very personal scale: changing herself and proving to herself that she can do it. The is also the climax of her character arc, the point of no return.

ep5: If last episode was natsume’s point of no return, then either this episode or episode 7 is Kaburagi’s. Rationally speaking, the optimal scenario would have been for Kaburagi to stall long enough for the Tankers to escape before pulling back himself, but emotionally and narratively, there’s no way he couldn’t. After all the build up of deciding for yourself how to live and pushing your limits. Its appropriate that here in defense of the girl that inspired him to live and choose for himself rather than just continue existing in the default of what Solid Quake demands of him, that Kaburagi chooses to release his operational limiter (literally pushing him limit) and derail the company’s plans. How did no one realize purple dude was breaking imprisonment to play on a hacked avatar. Like he’s still as purple and bloodthirsty as ever. He acts and speaks the same. Someone would have totally seen him and gone “eyyyyy [i forgot this guy’s name] is back” and talked to people about it and someone should have heard. So I remember reading comments from various idiots who were mad because they mistakenly thought the anime took place in a virtual space and that Natsume was made of lines of code. And first off even if that was true there’s a difference between objective reality and the lived experiences of a person and what’s to say her experiences and emotions would be any less real than yours. And second, did everyone forget The Hunger Games? Like its just another game that plays with real lives and doesn’t care who gets killed. Solid Quake is just using humans as a stage prop. Man this episode is jam packed. Its like getting punched in the face 4 times. The pacing of the last 4 minutes was really good. The quiet scene as dawn breaks acts in direct contrast to the high energy of the Stargate takedown that preceded it. After time and against not listening to him, Minato still calls Kabu to check in with him. There’s also his certainly that it was Kaburagi that saved the Deca-Dence mech (i need to be clearer when I’m talking about the physical fortress city mech, the mmorpg game, or the deca-dence system itself). And then when the world state gets reset is just so good because it make it clear that the gadoll were never the true enemy. The tankers could kill as many gadoll as they want and nothing would change. Kaburagi’s at an interesting point here, in that he’s no longer in a state of having given up like he was in episode 1 just waiting to die and following along with Solid Quake’s orders, as of this episode he has deliberately gone against the company’s rules, and yet he’s still believes that nothing will actually change. He’s broken a rule and resigned himself to punishment instead of say for example getting rid of the punishment all together. He’s still a good little employee that hasn’t rebelled against the system. And then the “Take care of Pipe” and Natsume turns around and he’s already gone, is sooo good. The final shot too of his avatar face down in the snow! The “This world needs bugs” is in direct contrast to Hugin/Fugin(?) repeating that this world must be rid of bugs, and the same phrase Kaburagi repeated 7 years ago when he was transferred to the Maintenance Department instead of being killed. I wonder how much the cyborgs feel in their original bodies vs. how much they feel in their Gear avatars. Kaburagi doesn’t seem to care about food and no food stalls were shown in the Gear area so maybe they doesn’t have much sense of taste? The avatars also have a lessened sense of pain. And then the limit release sequence shows connections increasing between the two bodies so does it make the cyborgs more attuned with the avatar’s senses?

ep6: eh so this is another example of what I mean when I say some of the humor in this show is in bad taste. They probably put the oxyone port where the ass would be just to make this joke. But this is better then doing to it Natsume. The animators even had a gleam censor for the over where the capsule was inserted as if it wasn’t obvious enough what it was suppose to look like. Spurned on by the the promise that one day if they work hard and behave (”rehabilitated”), the cyborgs will get let out when in actuality its a forced labor camp so that Solid Quake can squeeze just a little more labor our of the cyborgs for even less compensation. The cartoony style here helps offset just how horrific there working conditions are. And Kaburagi still the good little employee (iiko) tries his hardest to play by the rules and win. Except in this game, there is no “win’ written into the rules. So finally he is forced to move outside of the system Solid Quake has made. I still can’t believe they let Donatello keep the gun... Maybe cyborg cores are brains. In 5.5 Kaburagi’s core is in the top half of his metal case, and Donatello’s is also in his head. I’m still not sure what that sequence where Kaburagi takes the head fin and an image of a cyborg core is overlayed, means.

Also, "Accumula Town" from the Pokemon Black and White soundtrack. IDK if that counts but ever since the news on the Pokemon remake games coming soon in the Nintendo Switch, this song has been popping out in my dashboard and I have been listening to it addictively.

Last movie: I want to eat your pancreas. ( Even though, the anime plot was obvious however it managed to stimulate my emotions down the road. Bittersweet ending that teaches you about the importance of communication and to enjoy your life to the fullest.)

Last show: Accurately Attack on Titan. ( However, I was re-watching some retro animes at the same time called "Grander Musashi" [Fish show] and " Chousoko Spinners" [About Yo-yo]. The shows ridiculously go into an intense training arc and tournament like how you would see in Shounen anime nowadays. Despite all of that, a part of my childhood does enjoy these old paced shows that hold a special place in my heart. Bear with me! )

Last thing I googled: Grander Musashi in Arabic. ( Yeah, I know I'm a dork. I actually watched the series in Arabic and wanted to binge-watched my retro animes from its original dub (Japanese). Also, I research it in Japanese in case if any of you wanted to watch the retro series that I mentioned.

Following: I just daily reblog whatever I watch on TV and usually on Yu Yu Hakusho tags, always eager for any new content, news or merchandise.

Why I chose this URL: The origin of my username was founded in my freshmen days in high school. Long story short, I was praying to God that I would survive the three-episodes shot of each anime series that I was watching in each season, hoping it would be a great show that I will learn something out of it. This is why I call myself "Anime Please Good." :) Don't ask for more, I was a weird teen who preferred spending the day at home. The irony, now I wish the opposite.

Other blogs: Well, maybe I will create a new one if I finally publish the story that I was working on for quite a while. Hopefully, I regain my motivation and stop my procrastination.

Average hours of sleep: Ideally 5-7 hours but the lockdown is messing around my sleeping routine.

Lucky number: 7 ( I love Nana so much, would totally recommend it for people who love a slice of life/romantic stories and teaches a lot of life notions) I'm so blinded by the show that I almost forgot that this number brings bad luck. And no, I'm not a masochist!

Instruments: Piano. I haven't played it for a while. I do enjoy the classical soundtrack to calm my mood and help me to script.

What I’m wearing: A pair of camouflage buttoned t-shirt and pants Pj set and hairclip for my Rapunzel's hair. My whole family is insisting on me getting a new haircut. Sadly, I'm stubborn as a mule and fonded by my long hair aesthetic.

Dream trip: Literally visiting Japan, since I'm progressively learning the language.

Favorite foods: Boiled stuffed grape leaves (which I had today for lunch) as a meal and cheesecake as dessert.

Nationality: Born in Kuwait but lived my entire life in Canada.

Favourite songs: Nu'est - Hello (addictive), Plastic Love by Takeuchi Mariya (retro vibes), Love in top by Beyonce (my queen), September by Equinox Stars (Just Dance) and old anime songs stored on my Itunes.

What’s your guys favourite front nine character? favourite recurring character? And Adult character? And why?

Dearest anon, you should know that the moment I showed this to Katie and Es all three of us were like “oh no” because choosing a favorite is like. So hard. It’s like pulling teeth. It feels downright impossible, especially when it comes to the front nine. And yet, and yet, we will do it anyway. Thanks for the challenge!

Favorite Front Nine: Farkle. Look, this was a tough call, but obviously it has to be Farkle. I love him so much it's unreal, in every universe. I think his depiction of mental illness is really real and important and relatable. I know he's kind of a villain for a little bit there (maybe more of an antihero), but he's MY antihero and that's fine! Farkle Protection Squad coalition of one! His spiral into self-hatred and eventual recovery... yeah. Very important to me. I love him!

Favorite recurring: Yindra. No one is surprised. I love Yindra. Queen of confidence! Queen of talent! If I went to AAA, I would have the biggest crush on Yindra, hands down, because she’s incredible. Someone needs to be that iconic! Plus, her dynamic with Zay and Nigel... literally incredible. Everybody put some respect on my lesbian queen.

Favorite adult: Eric. I dunno if I really need to explain why, but I will. His compassion and understanding is one of my favorite things about him, and I love the way he works through the issues he and Jack face at the school. Plus his and Jack's dynamic... iconic. Love them. (It was a tough call between the two of them but I figure more people are gonna say Jack.) And him and Isa! 🥺🥺🥺 Best counselor award when?

Favorite Front Nine: Since maggie got to break the rules I will too. My favourites are Dylan and Isadora. Farkle and Charlie are close behind as I love their storylines and delving into their minds and mental headspace, but Isa and Dylan are definitely at the top and have very special places in my heart. Isa I’ve been attached to since gmw in much the same way maggie has been with Lucas, as she’s the only canon female autistic representation I’ve ever had and she provided some really relatable moments for me. I clung onto her and haven’t let go since. I also just love how complex she is and how much duality exists in her, most notably with being a techie and performer, but also the fact that she’s extroverted in some ways (performing, needing friends around her) and introverted in others (pushing people away, craving space and alone time). I could write a whole essay about her but I’ll save you the time and simply say I love her very much. Dylan definitely snuck up on me as a favourite character, but it was inevitable as I’m always drawn to loveable goofballs like him. He’s just so good natured and loving, he cares so much about his friends and would do literally anything for them and I love him for that. He’s also just really funny and pure and I’m lowkey in love with him rip

Favorite recurring: This is really difficult as there are so many incredible recurring characters. Maggie, Katie and I have talked about the fact that the show could easily have like twenty main characters with how entertaining and full of potential the rest of the a class are, but alas, every episode would be at least three hours long if that were the case. In the end I think I have to go with my girl Jade. She works so hard and makes literally amazing, beautiful pieces of ART on the regular, and is overlooked so much but still keeps on going and doing what she loves. She’s also just lovely and I love her dynamics with the other characters. She’s an integral part to the techie group, and the a class as a whole. Also, when Jade speaks up about something, you know it’s serious...

Favorite adult: Eric 100%. He’s always been my favourite of the adults, and I stand by that. He’s very similar to Dylan in a lot of ways so of course I’m going to be drawn to the lovable goofball yet again. I also love how much he cares about the students and the school and how passionate he is about them going on to be the best versions of themselves they can be. As an Isa stan I also adore their dynamic, and am very excited to explore it more in s3.

Favorite Front Nine: I’m gonna say upfront that I’m breaking the rules on this one. I don’t care. I can’t do it, I literally cannot choose only one front nine. The shorthand answer is Lucas, Farkle, and Dylan, but all for entirely different reasons. Farkle is my favorite character to write story-wise, as exploring his arc and his development as essentially the pseudo protagonist has been one of the best parts of this experience. He is also my favorite performer in that I know if we could watch / listen to these performances, his would always be my favorite. There’s just... a je ne sais quoi. Then LJF and Dylan are my personal favorites, but like... for opposite reasons and vibes. I almost can’t even explain it. Like anyone who knows me knows LJF is deeply rooted in my heart and has such a precedence and importance to me (and this version of him in particular is so special to me), so there’s that. But then with Dylan, who really blossomed and came out of the woodwork with AAA and S2 especially, there is just such a warmth and brightness and love to him and writing his character that makes me so happy. It feels like home in some ways, like a comfort space, and he really represents what I wish more of the world was like -- optimistic, genuine, comforting. So yeah. No I’m not crying. Anyway... I feel I should also mention that Asher was close here as well, but his pitfall is that he’s unintentionally way too similar to who I am as a person GJDKFGJLKDSH so it’s harder to look at him from an objective angle.

Favorite recurring: This is tough too because I love the A class after spending so much time with them + developing their quirks and eccentricities, but I think I’m going to go with Nigel (with Jade as a super close runner-up). Nigel just has that perfect balance of coolness and wit that I find really enjoyable, but he avoids the pitfalls that Farkle falls into in that he’s also a very genuine and grounded person. I love so many of his one-liners, and I really enjoy getting to bake a little more of him and Jade and their dynamic into the upcoming season.

Favorite adult: This one, on the other hand, is easy. Jack. Jackson Hunter all the way. I love writing him, I love reading about him, I just love him. I love that he is this sharp (but necessary) contrast to most of the tomfoolery of AAA. I love how we come at him from an angle of expecting him to be almost heartless because he’s a practical realist, but then we see how much he cares about the students and the school in his own right. I love his clash with Eric and how that develops and grows into an even and essential partnership. I love his light sarcasm, his exhaustion, how he tries to do the right thing even when it feels impossible -- but that he also isn’t perfect, and slips up or bends the rules when he really feels it’s the decision he needs to make (mainly regarding Lucas). Which of course... I love his dynamic with Lucas. They are I think the most unexpected thing to come out of writing the show for me, but I am obsessed with them. I would rank them up very high in my favorite dynamics of the whole show, they’re that important to me. And I definitely know that that contributes to why I love Jack so much. I just think he’s neat. I love the man. A fave fave fave.

My Thoughts on The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee:

- Man, I already love Gandra Dee. She amazing! - Those scenes with Fenton and Gandra are so adorable! Fenton being an anxious sweetie, and Gandra playing the "cool kid." * And Huey shipping it more than ever fpfosodkdjsj!! XD - I love how Fenton was going out his way of saying "THIS IS NOT A DATE!! Just a couple of scientists meeting in a lab" and Huey and Webby basically going "Oh this date's gonna be super special! MUSIC!! FOOD! LIGHTS!" (Pfffbbtbt I dunno what I'm saying right now!! Except I do but at the same time j don't...) - HUEY SINGING THE WAY HE DID WAS AMAZING AND ADORABLE AND I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT!! AAAAHHH!! BEAUTIFUL!! - I wasn't expecting a Mark Beaks return, but damn! The way he took down those pigeons with his phone!! And literally dancing around the bullets, listening to his music as he's doing so! I will admit that was pretty badass! * If I'm correct, that particular playing was what he used to take down the robotic pigeons? - What exactly was the deal between Gandra and Mark Beaks? I don't really remember if they explicitly said it or not. I do remember that a part of it was that Mark wanted attention?? Taken away from Gizmoduck to himself?? * What exactly did Gandra want that Beaks had?! Did they say?! - Geez! Not only was Mark Beaks unexpected for me, but also Mega Beaks! Honestly that whole time he was drinking the chemicals, I was asking myself this the whole time: "WHAT is he drinking?!" I couldn't figure it out for the life of me, and then Mega Beaks happened and I was kinda dumbfounded. - MEGA BEAKS BETTER NOT HURT THE BABY DUCKIES!!! * Also, what the hell? He assumed they were his children? (Is Fenton even old enough to have ten to twelve year old children??) - "Don't be yourself. Be the best of yourself."?? I honestly don't quite understand this sentence.. * Also, what happened to Fenton's dad?! Mrs. Cabrera said that suit Fenton wore was his dad's... - Fenton writing down the list of people who know who Gizmoduck is. XD Especially how he was like * sigh * "okay she knows now" after Webby found out right away! XD This whole scene was funny! - Another thing to say about the fate scene: Huey and Webby wearing those outfits! They looked SO CUUUUTTTEE (not that I haven't said that in a lot of things, and it won't be the last time either)!!!! - I think the fandom is gonna start shipping Fentra (Or Ganton??). Not that I blame anyone... - Honestly, they would make a great couple! I mean, they both feel like they get ignored by people when they talk about science... (I would say something else, but I dunno what to add...) But unlike Fenton, Gandra would take a step ahead, and actually put the testing into use, as what she says, instead of just theorizing... * And oh man... That REALLY hurt when Fenton found out the real reason why Gandra wanted to meet him. That's awful knowing people only like you for ONE thing about yourself, instead of the many things of... YOU. Or... People don't like Fenton for himself, and he thought Gandra was different. Initially... But seeing that change of heart was really sweet! - I think Huey may be afraid of heights at this point... Not that it'll stop him from getting on the Cloudslayer I don't think. Poor baby! Aaa and that's it for today! Sorry this was REALLY late. I was gonna watch it from my TV list, but it wasn't even in there. Bleh. But I found another way to watch the episode, so that's a plus! Nothing else much to say at this point... So see ya later!

As a recent but devoted follower of this creative team, it’s been quite an experience watching the Crunchyroll community reacting to Himote House in real time. CR’s simulcast (and its delightful key visual) attracted a wave of unprecedented attention towards this strange little show - one that left a violent wake of criticism, endless comments about ‘lazy writing’ and ‘godawful CGI.’ Even the other positive reviews on MAL so far are couched in the self-effacing language of ‘so bad it’s good.’ While this is expected, it’s honestly kind of heartbreaking. I think Himote House is thoroughly misunderstood, and I want to do my best here to not so much /review/ it, but to clear up some misconceptions the average viewer might have about it that will hinder them from enjoying it for the charming goofball comedy that it is.

THIS SHOW DOES NOT SHARE YOUR VALUES. This is the key insight I have to offer. I’ve put it near the top in shouty capitals, it's that important. I’ll say it again. This show, and really what I mean is this production team, does not care about the things that the General Western Anime-Watching Audience (GWAWA for short) cares about. The majority of comments on Himote House’s (HH) debut were about the cheap CGI animation (which, if you’ve watched the rest of Studio Bouncy’s catalogue, is actually looking better than ever). Among the many beefs I have with GWAWA, predominant is the persistent conflation of budget and quality. Criticism, in its most literal sense, is obviously warranted, but I get the impression time and again that GWAWA will stop engaging with a show as soon as the animation drops below some arbitrary level of pizazz. How many needless comments about Budget™ plague well-meaning shows made without the finances of Shaft? How many GWAWA made those same snide remarks over Kill la Kill during shots that intentionally dropped detail for effect? It’s a fixation that not only detracts from the potential for enjoyment of any given work, but actively fosters hostility to independent productions. Creativity so often comes from constraint - if you’re only going to watch shows with a AAA budget, you’re going to miss out on a damn lot of thought-provoking, interesting and challenging anime. Mind you, it’s a valid question whether Studio Bouncy has no budget or just doesn’t care about one. Why should they? Their shows are not at all based on visuals - they are pure comedies, equal parts manzai and improv. The beating heart of the show is its voice actresses, and when you have six of the funniest seiyuus around ad libbing about worn-out panties and philosophy, what need is there for flashy artwork? As long as the models are expressive enough to convey the beats and punchlines. Most of these shows would even work just as well as live stand-up sets - and here I’ll bring up the tragically underrated Mahou Shoujo? Naria Girls, in which the seiyuus *actually did improvise live* to Whose Line-style cues, and had their actions motion-captured into MikuMikuDance. The result is a level of jank so ridiculous it only adds to the already absurd improv comedy underneath it; and, predictably, one of the lowest MAL ratings I’ve encountered. The improv sections, traditionally announced by the toll of a bell, seem to confound many viewers who comment about the “extremely loose script.” It’s an easy mistake to make - it’s so unexpected, it might be hard to think of it is as intentional. As a fan of live comedy, these parts delight me to no end. At times the framework of the show’s ‘story’ and characters feels like a concession to expectations, merely a setting to allow for the ad-lib segments. Live and unruly comedy is another core value of this team: not only is improv a component in all of their scripted shows, they’ve even delved into fully live-broadcast anime (again using mo-cap and MMD models) with the exceptionally batshit Minarai Diva and Chokkan x Algorhythm. (But that’s a review for another time and place.) It baffles me that the same GWAWA that lauded Pop Team Epic for its surreal humour and intentionally cheap aesthetic are now so enraged by Himote House doing something similar. I understand that this is a style that can take some getting used to; my first encounter with Naria Girls was extremely cynical, and I thought I’d found something truly awful. But by the second episode, the gleeful abandon of the production team became self-evident, and I could appreciate it for what it is: just a bunch of comedians f**king around. I hope that any GWAWA reading this as they cautiously approach HH can do the same - let down your guard! Hang up your hang-ups! Remember that your value set is not an objective measure of anything. You will constantly encounter art that challenges you, but it won’t always be Deeply Serious Art - you can be challenged by fun. This, too, is philosophy.

hiya, welcome back to my reviews and rankings of my slowly slowly dying hyperfixation, ive left a link to my previous post if this is you're first time seeing this, anywhooom now onto the first half of season 4 under da cut (づ｡◕‿‿◕｡)づ

last whiff of summer part 1 & 2

the dvd i bought combined both parts so ill do too, out of simplicity or somethin. after seeing the kids not doing anything, frankie and mike decide they'll go to one if those old drive-in movies but end up revealing that axl is mike's favorite child. brick's voice is starting to really change, oh no, he's turning into a preteen aaa. sue trying to get the attention of mike by being "evil" is sad but kinda sweet, especially when she tries to get lost in the fair. she tries her best at everything and constantly has a positive outlook but she always goes unnoticed, even in her family at moments, but she's definitely noticed in my book. i love how axl accidentally joins the demolition derby, it's fun. i really adore the ending with the "summer of sue and dad" notebook, it's really cute and funny. good episode.

the second act

ive been dreading this episode, not because it's shit or anything but because it's the second last appearance of bob and that makes me sad, especially how he cries and hugs frankie after she gets fired, oh yeah, i probably should have mentioned that first. frankie gets fired by ehlert, sue mentors a freshman that ends up not really needing her, axl gets obsessed with being a senior, and brick uh does something that upsets mike. i kinda hate frankie here, she tells bob that they'll keep on touch but after this, they literally never talk to each other again, the whole reason why we see him one last time is because frankie accidentally goes back there instead of her new job after a busy day, shame on you, frankie, shame on you, you little shi- axl comforting frankie about studying for a new job is so genuinely sweet, i love moments like this where axl is nice, it shows that he isn't just a pain in the ass, he's an actual complexed person, he shows niceness in his own way, i love itttt. good episode, top of the list.

bunny therapy

brick develops a new stim, it being randomly saying "whoop" while looking up, so the school therapist, chuck fulton, suggests that they should get a pet for brick whom turns out to be insane, while sue tries out for mascoting (if that's even a word) with the cheerleaders, and axl attempts to figure out if hes dates courtney or debbie cuz he forgor [skull emoji]. i love how frankie and mike stick up for brick and his stims while watching axl play, it's sweet. really good episode, top of the list so far.

"[moans maniacally.] now get me a car."

the hose

after snooping in on mike's paycheck, sue realizes that they're poor while mommy- i mean rita accuses frankie of stealing her garden hose and rains hellfire on her. i love how since frankie had to go to the dentist for her chipped tooth, she starts thinking about being a dentist assistant, that's smart writing, i love it, and i love it more because of the detail when she has the chopped tooth, she has a tiny lisp that i didn't even notice first time watching this. i love sue, she's so considerate, and she doesn't want to go on a trip with her friends because she knows it costs a lot and she doesn't want her family to pay for her. axl explains sex to brick in graphic detail, wrongly. another really good episode, above the second act.

halloween 3: the driving

because of a deal/bet with frankie, brick literally eats an entire year and a half worth of candy in less than 24 hours, sue practice drives, i guess you would call it, and axl gets to vote since he's 18. i feel like im gonna go through this exact thing sue is going through when i try to drive, cars are just kinda scary to me, i can't really help it. sue completely destroys axl's foot with their car and it's hilarious. like how the more sick brick is, the more neurotypical he is, the more candy he has is basically the same affect weirdly. good episode but it almost have nothing to do with halloween other than bricking eating a shit ton of candy, above last whiff of summer part 1 & 2.

the safe

frankie goes to dentist school, axl gets tutored by cassidy and for some reason falls for her, and sue and brick try to open a safe while referencing shows- actually it's not even referencing shows it's just saying the show's tilte. i kinda like how jane kaczmarek is frankie's dentist teacher person, cuz "hehehaha malcolm in the middle sounds a lot like the middle.". i love it when they pare sue and brick together, it's always fun. they literally put a big ass hole in sue's hall, again. not a lot else to say other than it's good, above last whiff of summer part 1 & 2.

thanksgiving 4

the hecks host marines for thanksgiving while, frankie tries to reflame pat and tag's love, axl's foot heals in less than 3 episodes but cassidy comments on how sport is a waste of time, making axl not really want to do it, brick hyperfixates on a new book, and sue's mascot head is stolen. brick finding a new hyperfixation and infodumping everyone while they're doing other stuff, obviously not caring, is very relatable to me. i love brad's dance fight and the cut to him with a broken nose, it's so funny. i also love sue's speech to axl and the very over dramatic music. good episode, above the safe.

"who punches a guy while he's on his tippy toes? that's not how a dance fight work."

christmas help

reverend timtom suggest that brick should be in his play, sue makes cookies for said play, mike accidentally helps rusty steal stuff, frankie tries to abuse her employees discount for christmas presents, while axl creates his own little man cave with the stuff rusty and mike stole. i love mike talking to "the man upstairs", how he first starts nervously stiming with his brother's car keychain thing, thinking about what timtom said, before sitting down. i really really love how the hecks make light of how awkward brick was in timtom's play, it's amazingly sweet, especially when axl talked to brick, it got an audible awww out if me. a really good episode episode with great ending, top of the list so far.

twenty years

brick gets excited for the final planet nowhere book release, his somewhat new special interest, while sue tries to throw a party for frankie's and mike's 20th anniversary, and frankie gets pissed at mike for not picking up her cute call but don't worry, mike makes up for it in the end with something very sweet. i absolutely love brick's talk to axl, explaining why spoiling that book broke him, it's so unbelievably relatable, i completely understand why brick would feel like this after axl messed with him, a lot of my past and current hyperfixations and special interests means a lot to me, more to me than you could ever imagine, they're my friends, my buddies, my family, and even my lovers, a shoulder to cry on when it's looking dark, a person that will always cheer you up with a laugh, someone that will always be there for you, even when everything around you is turning into hell itself, and i wouldn't trade them for anything in the entire world, so if someone ever did something like that to me, i wouldn't function the same without my friends. just because it's so relatable, top of the list, brick perfectly explains why some special interests means so much lot to folk, specially me. yeah, i am very biased since fiction affects me a lot in many different ways, i know, but if you're anything like me, this episode will speak volumes to you, if not that, at least brick's talk.

life skills

sue and axl have the same class period together, brick goes sees chuck fulton, the school therapist that also appeared in bunny therapy, while frankie's car windshield gets broken. once again, brick is very relatable in this one, not really understanding the point of befriending a bunch of screaming little shits. i absolutely love how brick always considers chuck a friend of his, it's so sweet, and that fact that chuck is surprised by this makes it so much more nicer. everybody owing axl favors and axl using those to his advantage to finish his and sue's school project is brilliant, i love it. axl is very hilarious in this, he's such a fun character. really great episode, above bunny therapy.

one kid at a time

after another round of arguing with each other, frankie comes up with the bright idea of having a whole day just for one kid each day. i literally screamed when mike referenced limestone. i feel so bad for brick and how shit his special day was, he literally makes a scene in the shoe shore just so he can be yelled at and noticed. the smile he had walking back to his room after he got yelled at by frankie and mike was weirdly nice. i really enjoyed this one, above the hose.

the friend

frankie tries to befriend the new neighbor, todd packer jeff and colleen, those two cheerleaders bitches start cheering for the wrestlers even though wrestlettes are a thing, and axl and cassidy make out everywhere ew straight people ew. i love brick bonds with cassidy about planet nowhere until axl shoos him away and brick even talks a bit about catcher in the rye which just reminds me of thanksgivings 2 and bob's jealous face he made to brick and hhhhaaaaa i love that little face of his so much, i don't think ive talked about him enough, he's so unbelievably pretty and precious and chris does such a great performance of my boy aaaa >,////,< i have i told you how much i love bob? cuz i do, a lot- i adore the wrestlerettes having a dance off with those cheershits. i like how frankie ends up scaring away the neighbors, she definitely would. good episode, above halloween 3: the driving.

good season so far, definitely more relatable for me than i expected. im very excited for the rest of the season where we get introduced to ted goodwin, he's such a sweet boy. anyway, onto the actual ranks. this is going to be a lot more difficult when i have to rank them all together by the end of this, isn't it?

Selectivity: extremely, whoops. i’m a kind of finicky writer, so if I’m not feeling it it just Doesn’t Happen. OOC i’m friendly and like talking, so not wanting to rp together is never an indicator that i dislike you or we can’t be ooc buds- I just get fairly picky and only write with people whose style meshes well with mine.

Favorite animal: rats!!!

Favorite muse you’ve had so far ever: it’s probably a toss-up between Will Graham from Hannibal and Reigen Arataka from mp100. Will was a really strong character that challenged my writing and made me pick up lyricality and character voice as traits. Reigen was just really FUN and coming up with the wild shit he’d say always challenged me to be fun and funny.

Muse you kinda wanna pick up: I’ve high key thought about one of the FFXV ladies (probably Cindy or Sania) but unfortunately I’m too busy to run one blog as well as I want, let alone two.

Most identifiable fictional character: I think I identify most with Reigen Arataka. He’s got the whole milennial experience down- 28 years old, no social life or money, fake it till you make it, most marketable job skill is “if i don’t know how to do it yet, give me 10 minutes and google”. I think a lot of his behaviors mirror mine, too, as far as talking with his hands, fidgeting, his facial expressions etc.

What color your aura is/think it is: Probably some variety of blue or aqua? Cyan, maybe.

Personality stuff you agree with (astrology, mbti, Hogwarts house, etc be as specific as you want!): I’m a Saggitarius and Chinese Zodiac Horse, so.... Horse Mc.Horsehorse. Also Slytherin and INTJ. All of which sound pretty bad in combination (flighty, no sense of commitment, social climber and logic above emotion) but I’d say while they’re spot on, I try to be pretty cool.

Do you think you’re a good driver: lol I can’t actually drive. Literally do not know how.

Favorite minor discourse (pinapple on pizza, what color is the dress, etc): I like coleslaw discourse but as a southerner that lives in a BBQ city where coleslaw is a Staple of our diet, I just cannot abide by hatred of it. Come eat it with pork bbq and THEN decide.

Favorite vine and/or meme: Gimme you facking maney, also the mispronounced food meme ruined my life because i say those things now

Why did you choose this muse: Noctis is a really interesting character that I don’t think is actually many people’s favorite of the chocobros? I definitely know Prompto is the Big Favorite, and that Ignis is second fave after Episode Ignis, but Noctis really stuck out to me. His character arc is about accepting sacrifice, and not running away from your problems anymore, and repaying the friends that have been willing to lay down their lives for him since day one.

That, and I relate to him in some ways! Noctis 100% completely reads as a depressed character to me, and depression is such a major part of my life that I sort of find myself drawn to discussing and exploring it via rp. Likewise, I read him as disabled and with chronic pain, and that’s a major part of my partner’s life, so.... Idk, a lot of things about him are very close to home and I care about him so much ;v;

Favorite rp memory: there are quite a few, aaa.... for OOC it’s definitely the times I’ve gotten to meet RP partners IRL. IC.... I think maybe the time totus and i were up at three in the morning and both of us had a lightbulb moment about how to save a character. Just aggressively texting at each other OH SHIT, FILM, IS FLAMMABLE, THERE ARE MILES OF FILM AND HE’S CARRYING A TORCH, AAAAA I think I also love the time on my Will blog that I wrote a ship marriage verse.... only for totus and I to write a messy, painful divorce and get all kinds of messages from people who were reading our threads and in a g o n y over what we did :-)

Favorite thing you’ve written, in rp or not: I think The Monstrosity! It’s an UTRP rp/fic we published a few years back. It’s pretty long, and I won’t link it because... well.... undertale..... but I adore that we (totus and i) sat down, wrote together and came up with a story with a clear beginning, middle and end and a character arc and themes and everything. I don’t usually write like I’m writing fiction- and even with that one, it was a happy accident, but it feels nice to have made something that people read and interacted with like a piece of fiction!
