hi i was just scrolling through ur blog and i saw u mentioned a miraculous ladybug/bnha crossover, i’d love to hear more about it! also i love the snippets of your stories you post, they’re always so interesting and well written <3
okay, so this story is pretty old?? i think. it's not really still in the works, so i'll just talk about it and my plans for it here.
the main vibe of this fic was to try and tell a slightly more mature story using the basis of the show. i was at the time deeply frustrated by the show, and couldn’t really find what i wanted in fanfic. i wanted to age up marinette and chat noir, put them at like, 17ish, and try and approach the show's premise through the lens of their more adult selves.
(fun fact: my phone lockscreen is art that i made for this story, way back when)
okay here's the story summary:
After four years in the Hero business, Marinette wishes she could say she has it all figured out. But, with a Quirk that’s on the fritz, a secret identity that’s slowly eating away at her life, and one hell of an escalation from everyone’s least favourite villain, she’s almost faced with more than she can handle. And that’s not even mentioning her ever more complicated relationship with her partner-in-crime-fighting.
and here's all i had written:
A chill has set into the air by the time she finds herself crouched behind the treeline, watching the road for riders. Her breath condenses on the air in front of her face, the tips of her ears tinted pink by the cold, but her fingers, coated in light, black gloves, remain nimble.
Left hand gripped tight around her spotted bow, she waits.
It’s quiet. It niggles at her, raising the hairs on the back of her neck, because just a week ago, she wouldn’t be doing this alone. He’d promised her once that he’d follow her wherever she needed him, but that it was beyond him to do it silently. She misses his incontrovertible pessimism the same way she misses the presence of his warmth, pressed into her side, watching her back.
She’ll never have that again.
She spots her target when he crests the hill. At first, he’s nothing more than a silhouette against the night, but as he rides closer, she can better make out his features. His distinctive riding posture and his ridiculous clothes.
He deserves this. He deserves worse than this. It should be slow. It should be agonising. He should beg – beg her to forgive him, to take back what he stole, to leave him alive.
She pulls an arrow from her quiver. In the half light of the moon, she can just make out the red-and-black spots on the fletching.
She draws. The bowstring sits taut, her fingers curved into the hollow of her cheek.
He rides closer.
A whisper: “Lucky—”
The arrow flies.
“—Shot!”
It strikes true.
--
“—ette, Marinette!”
Something’s tugging on her fringe.
“Marinette, wake up!”
In a bedroom in Paris, oceans and centuries away from that secluded woodland scene, Marinette Dupain-Cheng opens her eyes. There’s no forest, no road, no rider—just the pastel pink walls of her bedroom, peppered with the occasional picture of Adrien Agreste. She takes it all in purposefully – her patterned bedspread, her worn floor, the mannequin wearing a half-assembled jacked in the corner – until the details of that freezing night, with the bowstring, and the cold, calculating weight of anger that doesn’t belong to her, melt away.
She covers her face with her hands and groans.
“You had another dream, didn’t you?” Tikki. She must have been the one to wake her up. She feels a soft weight as Tikki wriggles under her wrists, trying to pry her hands away from her face. “Marinette, this is third night in a row. It’s getting worse, isn’t it?”
Marinette sighs, letting Tikki lever her hands off her face. Tikki flies up in the air, and meets Marinette’s eye with the sternest frown she has in her repertoire.
It’s unbearably cute.
“Marinette!” Tikki says.
Right. Okay. So they’re talking about this now. At – she glances at her bedside clock – 4:12 in the morning. Less than an hour before she has to sneak out to meet Chat Noir for their Monday morning debrief.
Perfect.
“I don’t know what you want me to say,” Marinette admits. She runs a finger over the smooth surface of her earrings. “I barely got anything off them when I first put them in. I’ve never picked up anything that happened over a year ago, and never with this level of clarity. It’s just localised flashes, usually.” She sighs. “Are you sure you don’t know anything about why this might be happening?”
Tikki’s stern frown quickly gives way to a worried one. “You’re the first Ladybug since the advent of Quirks,” she says, chewing on her lower lip. “Where were you tonight?”
“A wood somewhere,” Marinette answers. “It was cold. Ladybug had a bow and arrow. She was angry. I think,” she pauses, closing her eyes to chase away the afterimage of that icy rage, “I think someone had killed Chat Noir and taken his Miraculous.”
“Oh.” Tikki’s voice is small. “I remember that.”
“I guess that kind of thing didn’t happen very often.”
“No, it didn’t,” Tikki says. “But that’s not the point. Marinette, that happened over five hundred years ago.”
Marinette’s fingers freeze where they’re still running over her earrings.
Well, shit.

Ladybug is cancelled y’all. I can’t believe some of you are out here defending her after she literally said it was akuma victims’ fault they got akumatised. Fuck that noise. I don’t want to hear any of you defending that victim blaming shit.
labybloggerbug
Ladybug said what????? Um, source please?????
theladyblog
So, OP deleted, but bringing back this post to debunk some of the rumours it started. Ladybug has never said that akuma victims are to blame for getting akumatised. Never. Misinformation like this is really dangerous to spread around, and I’m not just saying that over an imagined slight to Ladybug’s honour.
I’m not sure how many of Ladybug’s current fans were around from the very beginning, but when she first appeared on the scene, both she and Chat Noir faced widespread criticism for their public defence of akuma victims. Several notable Pro-Heroes spoke out against them (sources for Cloudburst, Victoire, and Iridescence) – and most especially against the fact that they refused to support moves to prosecute the first akuma victims.
There was a lot of anti akuma victim sentiment in those early days, and Ladybug in particular is responsible for diffusing it.
(A collection of sources for Ladybug and Chat Noir’s staunch support of akuma victims: (1), (2), (3), (4), (5).)
So, where does this new rumour come from? Well, given the timing of the post, it’s most likely tied to the Gabrielle Lavoie tapes. For the uninitiated, these tapes were made during a court case last year, when someone targeted during an akuma attack then moved to sue the akuma victim for psychological damages. (The Ladyblog covered the case here, with an English translation here.)
Ladybug and Chat Noir provided video testimony on the mechanics of akumatisation – testimony that was then leaked to the press. The passage that most likely kickstarted this post is as follows:
Ladybug: We know that there is a certain degree of consent involved in akumatisation. You have to say yes to Hawk Moth, or the akuma doesn’t take hold.
However, she elaborates:
Ladybug: That consent doesn’t have to be informed or unconditional. When an akuma – for lack of a better word – infects someone, their judgement immediately becomes compromised. Negative emotions are heightened. I’ve heard a few people describe it as a kind of tunnel vision – it’s hard to think of any other solution than agreeing to what Hawk Moth wants. And once you say yes, there’s no changing your mind. Chat Noir and I have both seen examples where Hawk Moth has coerced, threatened, or even tortured akuma that attempt to subvert his will. I do know of cases where someone has resisted akumatisation, but they’re exceptionally rare. In most cases, it’s the exception, not the rule.
(Transcript of the tapes available here.)
I hope that this clears things up at least a little!

France can boast some of the most relaxed Quirk Regulation laws in the world – and, because of this, some of the strictest legislation regarding Pro-Hero work. The line between vigilante behaviour and lawful intervention may seem paper-thin, but it amounts to the difference between a cheque from the mayor and jail-time.
The unique circumstances surrounding the ongoing Akuma Crisis have led to both Ladybug and Chat Noir being cut a lot of slack by the authorities and, by extension, the National Hero Commission, but Marinette’s never been too willing to toe the line. Neither of them really have any excuse anymore – it’s not like they’re thirteen year-olds catapulted into heroics without so much as a Provisional Licence to justify their presence.
Nowadays, Ladybug and Chat Noir are as by the book as they come. They log and report their hours to a designated secretary. They fill out and sign all the necessary paperwork that comes from an akuma attack and they file their patrol routes a month in advance. They attend conferences, they sit in on meetings, they run workshops – they do everything the Hero Commission asks them to do.
And that includes the Hero Licences.
Marinette looks down at the little piece of plastic in her hand. For something so small, it carries one hell of a lot of weight.
The Hero Licences are a compromise on the part of the Hero Commission – a compromise that only exists because she and Chat Noir were adamant in their refusal to disclose their identities. After months of back and forth and one incident of not entirely ethical akuma-baiting, it was decided that Ladybug and Chat Noir would be issued Hero Licences against their superhero identities, and carry them whenever they responded to a threat.
It’s that last part that strikes a chord of terror in the back of Marinette’s mind.
She can’t control when an akuma will attack. The only thing she has any control over is her patrol schedule, and even that can be difficult to bend around her civilian life. Because of that, she has to carry Ladybug’s Hero Licence with her wherever she goes.
There isn’t anything out there that concretely ties her to Ladybug. Her Miraculous even distorts her face – twisting her features until she looks like an imperfect mirror of herself – and she knows Chat Noir himself couldn’t pick her civilian identity out of a line up.
But—ever since she was handed her first Provisional Hero Licence, two years ago, the thought has lurked in the back of her mind that it’s a shackle. It’s a link between Marinette and Ladybug, in a world where Hawkmoth has proven time and time again how dogged and resourceful he is.
And it’s always on her.
She can be as vigilant as she likes. She can hide it in a secret pocket in her bag, she can stuff it into her bra in blind panic, she can never so much as look at it outside her work as Ladybug—but one day, someone is going to find it.
Marinette places the little plastic card down on her bed. She’s already dressed for school – having learned her lesson about assuming patrol will only take as long as they’ve scheduled it for years ago – and it’s nearly five. Chat Noir is probably already waiting for her. He’s good like that.
“Tikki, you ready to head out?”
Tikki appears from—somewhere that she was probably breaking a few laws of physics to be in the first place. “Are you sure, Marinette?” she asks. “What if it makes your Quirk worse?”
That ship has probably already sailed, Marinette doesn’t say. “Being Ladybug is the only time I don’t have to worry about my Quirk,” she says instead.
Tikki doesn’t look reassured at all.
Marinette sighs. “If it makes you feel better, I can try to talk to someone about it,” she says. “I still have my old Quirk Counsellor’s number. I can shoot them a text.”
“Won’t you have to explain about the Miraculous?”
“Dominique doesn’t ask questions,” Marinette says. “They won’t pry if I tell them I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Are you sure?”
“Certain.” Marinette smiles warmly at Tikki, who flies up to nuzzle her hand.
Quirks have always unnerved Tikki, even if she’s tried to hide it from Marinette. Marinette figures it’s probably pretty rough observing thousands of years of the human race, only to be hit by a curveball like Quirks. Given that it took humans two hundred years to figure out how to handle the issue with anything approaching dignity, Marinette thinks Tikki’s doing pretty well after just four.
“You ready?”
Tikki nods.
“Okay then, Tikki,” she says, “spots on!”

Ladybug (@)ladybug Good morning, Paris.
[IMAGE: A selfie taken from the rooftops in Paris as the sun rises. Chat Noir can be seen in the distance of the shot, grinning at the camera.]
just ENDeavour me (@)coldturtle_isme wait wait wait wait i know the ladybug twitter is verified but i thought it was run by someone in her agency? but this selfie was clearly posted in real time???
flawless victoire (@)monique_123 (@)coldturtle_isme Iirc it’s a mix? Ladybug and Chat Noir’s hero agency manage both of the accounts normally, but Ladybug and Chat Noir have to carry phones with them when they patrol for HC related reasons so they sometimes post stuff themselves.
--
The first thing Marinette notices when she drops beside Chat Noir is the lack of smile on his face. There’s tension in his shoulders, and he’s fiddling with the controls on his baton, repetitive and twitchy. She doesn’t need four years of friendship with him to identify the clear signs that something’s bothering him.
“Something wrong, chaton?” she asks, flicking her yo-yo back together as she walks over to his side.
“Have you spoken to Paulette today?”
Marinette pauses. Paulette is the sole administrative employee of their Hero agency, a long-suffering old woman who half-resents them for interfering with her retirement plans, and wholly disapproves of their involvement in the Hero industry at all. Chat Noir used to joke that she was a punishment from the Hero Commission – retribution for the procedural clusterfuck that their Heroics careers have been from start to finish.
On her worse days, Marinette is inclined to agree.
“Not since last week,” she tells Chat Noir. “She shouted at me for going over quota again.”
Technically speaking, Chat Noir and Ladybug have a set number of hours they’re supposed to work each week, assigned by the Hero Commission. It’s a general measure for all Pro-Heroes that ensures there’s always someone on-duty and counteracts Hero overcrowding. Going over quota is just as bad as going under, and the Hero Commission can restrict working hours, levy fines, and even revoke licences for breaches of the policy.
In reality, it doesn’t really work like that. At least not for Chat Noir and Ladybug.
The past few weeks have been pretty rough on the akuma front. The attacks tend to average at one a day over the Christmas and New Year’s period – Marinette has long since let go of the idea that people are happier around the holidays. Christmas day in particular can boast some of the most vicious akuma Ladybug and Chat Noir have defeated.
Chat Noir makes a face. “You know, I once asked her about that?” he says. “She told me we should have just defeated the akuma faster.”
Marinette wouldn’t be surprised. “So, what’s she upset about today?” she asks.
“She wasn’t upset,” Chat Noir says. “She had… news.”
Marinette tenses. The last time Paulette had news, she was standing next to a court officer holding a subpoena. “Good news?” she asks hopefully.
“News news,” Chat Noir says. He pauses. “You remember that typewriter akuma we fought a few days ago?”
“Typeset?” How could Marinette forget? Dodging car-size typewriter keys as they’re flung about the crowded streets of Paris on New Year’s Eve is pretty fraught, even so far as akuma fights go. “Is she okay? I didn’t want to leave her with Akuma Response Team, without talking to her, but she passed out as soon as I banished the akuma.”
“She’s fine. She just hadn’t slept in three days – her boss was running her into the ground with deadlines during the holidays, which is—” Chat Noir catches sight of her expression, “—beside the point. The point is, her Quirk is called Vocal Recall.”
Marinette frowns. They’ve been through this song and dance before, and it only leads to dead ends. “Using a Miraculous makes you functionally Quirkless, though,” she says. “It doesn’t matter if she has a—perfect recollection Quirk?” Chat Noir nods to confirm her guess. “She still won’t be able to remember anything from when she was akumatised.”
“You’re right,” Chat Noir says. “Or you would be if we were interested in what happened when she was akumatised. But we’re not. We’re interested in what happened just before she was akumatised. Her Quirk provides her with a perfect memory of the timbre and pitch of people’s voices, which generally isn’t that useful in day to day life, but—”
It hits her. “Hawkmoth spoke to her.”
Chat Noir nods. “Hawkmoth spoke to her,” he confirms. “She went to the police yesterday. She’s convinced that she could identify him if she heard his voice again.”
Marinette runs it all over in her head. “Well, shit,” she says, not sure what else she can add.
“Well, shit, indeed, my lady,” Chat Noir responds.

okay so a few more bits from this au:
marinette’s quirk is a touch-based clairvoyance quirk that allows her to see significant scenes from an object’s history. she usually can’t pick up things that have happened further back than a few months -- a year max.
because of this quirk, marinette has a quirk licence that allows her to use her quirk to consult with the police on crimes. she doesn’t do it as much anymore, because her parents got concerned that they were traumatising their preteen daughter by making her watch violent crimes.
lately, however, marinette has been getting flashes of shit that happened with the miraculous earrings like, 200 years ago. this is very concerning.
because miraculouses are from before the advent of quirks, they shut off user’s access to their quirks when they’re in use. barring the miraculous, ladybug is functionally quirkless in costume.
tikki is worried, because she’s never had a user with a quirk before, and she thinks something about the miraculous is making marinette’s quirk go out of control.
i don’t know if i ever figured out where i wanted this plot thread to go? but it’s there.
akuma victims are typically handled very poorly by regular pro-heroes, to the point where there’s a rule that akuma victims are to only be contained and not directly engaged unless you’re ladybug and chat noir
this isn’t directly relevant to the plot, but it’s just sort of part of the backdrop of ladybug and chat noir’s place in the heroics industry
basically: they’re the darlings of the nation, now, but pro-heroes used to fucking hate them and still lowkey do
the same way you’d hate anyone that got special treatment at your really dangerous and difficult job
anyway
when the witness comes forward that says she can identify hawkmoth by his voice, ladybug and chat noir are cautiously hopeful.
and then said witness is murdered in the police station, before she can give a proper statement to the police.
marinette is called in in her civilian self to try and get a reading off the murder weapon (a knife)
long story short, the clues marinette gets off the knife seem to point to nathalie, gabriel agreste’s assistant
MEANWHILE we have a really complicated dynamic between ladybug and chat noir
they’ve been friends for years at this point and trust each other a lot
but a point of contention remains ladybug’s staunch belief that they shouldn’t tell each other their identities
in the short extract above it says something about “not-entirely-ethical akuma baiting” or similar
essentially, way back when ladybug and chat noir were fighting for the right not to have to disclose their civilian identities when they got their hero licences, they announced that this one official from the hero comission had been let in on the secret, and that official was promptly akumatised forthright
but surprise! he didn’t know shit! it was all a test so ladybug and chat noir could demonstrate how important their identities remaining a secret was
so, like, ladybug’s position on the matter is that no-one is infallible, especially her -- and if one of them gets akumatised, they need to minimise the fallout
whereas chat noir’s position is that if ladybug is akumatised, they’ve already lost, so it should be safe for her at least to know his identity
she’s deadset against it, though, and he respects that
there’s an added layer to it where chat noir is very openly in love with her and she kind of returns the feelings, but she doesn’t want to have a relationship that can only exist when she’s wearing a mask
she’d much rather date in her civilian identity
so, obviously, this is another point of contention -- because ladybug basically admits to returning chat noir’s feelings, but the barrier in the way of their relationship (their secret identities) is steadfastly maintained only by ladybug
the murder mystery runs parallel to the interpersonal drama, basically
anyway, the end reveal of the fic comes after nathalie and gabriel have both been arrested by the police on suspicion of being hawkmoth but the authorities have failed to retrieve their miraculouses
and we discover that the peacock miraculous is now in the possession of lila
and lila was the one who murdered the witness in the police station, covering it up and fooling marinette using facts about the nitty-gritty mechanics of marinette’s quirk that only alya knew
if we pivot a bit to adrien, we find out that before he was arrested, gabriel essentially gave him the keys to the castle, and adrien discovers the secret hawkmoth layer beneath the mansion as well as his comatose mother
and there it is! the missing butterfly miraculous!
only bam! lila is here to claim it
we get a showdown in the lair between lila and adrien. adrien manages to keep the butterfly miraculous away from lila, but she manages to rip off his cat miraculous ring
lila cataclysms to bring the ceiling down on them, and adrien has to run for his life
the destruction summons ladybug to the manor, as she was called in because of its links to the akuma case
lila tries to play some mind games to get ladybug to believe she’s the good guy in all this, and adrien is on his father’s side
adrien says something cryptic that only chat noir would know, as a message to ladybug, and she realises what’s going on
big dramatic fight! ladybug is driven back, struggling against lila who has two miraculous. eventually, adrien uses his father’s butterfly miraculous, and powers ladybug up. ladybug and adrien team-up defeat lila.
with the black cat miraculous retrieved, and lila defeated, ladybug turns to adrien. her earrings are beeping at her. adrien apologises to her. he knows how important she considers their secret identities.
ladybug doesn’t care. she’s just glad he’s alive. she kisses him, and as she does so, her transformation melts away.
epilogue: marinette and adrien are dating. their identities are secret to the general population, but the hero comission knows now. they’re asked to consider being heroes fulltime post-graduation. they don’t want to.
also, an aside: adrien is quirkless. it’s concealed from the public out of concern for his celebrity career. the fic was going to be almost entirely marinette pov though so i’m not sure when this would come up.
one of the final scenes of the fic would be a confrontation with alya, because the entire reason lila had been able to frame nathalie was that alya shared, like, deep, dark quirk knowledge that marinette had confided in her with lila, alongside the fact that marinette works for the police. marinette considers this a betrayal, and ends their friendship over it.
last bit would be a post from the ladybug twitter, a photo of chat noir and ladybug sitting and leaning their heads on each other’s shoulders, with the caption “The City of Love <3″

please only read this if you finished cyno’s story quest!
I absolutely loved the story quest and cyno’s dynamic with everyone else but cyrus left me a bit disappointed… not in his character overall but in his actions. he had good intentions but took cyno away from his origins, denied him answers when cyno asked (cyno said he asked many times about hermanubis and the temple and cyrus always avoided answering him) and since cyno suffered under hermanubis it would’ve been his right to know where it stems from since he couldn’t recall… cyrus probably did it to protect him but he cut cyno off from his culture and people. Bamoun and cyrus owe cyno and sethos a lot in my honest opinion and cyrus still kept avoiding answering cyno at the end of his quest (cyno even calls this out) which just shows me he didn’t learn anything at all from the events.
he also had the option to try and reach out to cyno’s biological parents because they might’ve given him away to provide a better life for him (but I have to say as a middle easterner I’m tired of this poor parents give their children away etc etc narrative we had the same with collei)
cyrus also didn’t feel responsible enough for sethos after taking everything away from him or even leaving him behind back then even he knew it’s bad for him.
cyno and sethos both suffered under the actions of cyrus and bamoun and deserve so so much better cyno is a perfect example of ethnic children being taken in by white people and having their cultures and roots taken away from them. not to mention we know that cyno did maybe have a better life in the akademiya but he was still surveilled and treated like a lab rat and discriminated and isolated until he met tighnari
sorry for this little rant. I still appreciate everything cyrus did for cyno but I think this is also an important part of his very flawed character and ideals. in the end of the quest it even felt like he was manipulating cyno by showing him the photos which he “miraculously” found again showing him “look who raised and took you in”
Sorry I just saw this! First, please never apologize for sending me long asks, I love them! Also congratulations anon, I successfully had to log onto tumblr on my PC to type out this response lol. This is... very long, longer than your ask. I'm so sorry, this is the first post I've made with my thoughts on the quest, so it's going to be a bit of a ramble in return and probably not totally coherent.
Okay, so, full disclosure, I am super white. I mean I look like Barbie sort of white. That means that I don't think I can have any constructive input on the trope (arguably cliché) of middle eastern and BIPOC+Asian characters giving away (or selling, in Cyno's case) their children, so I will definitely defer to your discomfort with the concept. It's definitely a pervasive trope (see: Collei, Dehya, Cyno) and not just in Genshin Impact. It's something that is absolutely worth bringing up and thinking about, and I bet most people didn't even consider it, so thank you for voicing it as something you've noticed! Because of this, I don't feel comfortable talking about whether or not Cyrus should have looked for Cyno's parents, because it's very wrapped up in the narrative vs the damage of the trope, which has a lot to dissect and would be better done by somebody more educated.
As for the quest, I think I've gotta split this into two parts to have my thoughts make sense. God this is so long.
-
First, as a basis, the whole thing with Hermanubis is actually so fucked up from the start even before we can get to Cyrus and Cyno. I mean Hermanubis was an advisor to King Deshret, right? (Also that was two-thousand years ago, but he only died five-hundred years ago? Did I misunderstand that? Was he immortal? The timeline in this game could use an entirely different post because between Cyno and the Hearth kids it makes zero sense, but ANYWAYS-). Presumably, having witnessed this, Hermanubis knows the danger of Forbidden Knowledge and fucking with things that should not be fucked with.
After the fall of Tulaytullah, the Temple of Silence moved to the rain forest but left due to corruption, right? So you'd think they would have agreed on the basic Cardinal Sins of the Akademiya. But now, four hundred years later, the Temple of Silence's attempt to ressurect Hermanubis breaks at least one of those sins (tampering with life and death), and arguably two more (interfering with human evolution and/or attempting the forbidden and fearing none.) I really can't imagine Hermanubis would be happy with their actions. This is like the Akademiya trying to ressurect Rukkadevata (and boy do I have a fic I want to write that digs into those parallels of Cyno and Nahida.)
The very basis for the experiment they did on Sethos and Cyno is so unethical and corrupt. This killed adults so they thought, hey! It's not going to kill the children, right? Lets do it on them despite the negative effects (headaches and fevers). Bamoun's children even volunteered Sethos, which, again, is so fucked up.
Narratively, the quest didn't focus on this at all. It was never framed as something negative or messed up like you'd think it would be? I imagine it's because they didn't want to paint Bamoun and Cyrus as bad people or Sethos as indoctrinated. (What's interesting to me is how differently some situation are treated vs others in different quests. Arguably, Wriothesley, Arlecchino, and Cyno have parts in common that are condemned to totally different extents depending on the character, but that could be it's own post too).
We can talk about Cyrus taking Cyno and whether or not that was a good decision (removing children from their culture is never a good thing but we'll get to that) but we also can't really get into it without first talking about how the entire thing was absolutely horrid and wrong from the start. We're starting the conversation about Cyrus from a remarkably low place.
Okay, onto Cyrus and the quest. I actually think it's okay that Cyrus is a flawed character. We already knew he was super strict when he was teaching Lisa and Cyno, and we knew he was into some unethical shit since we already knew he was part of the experiments on Cyno, albeit not to this extent. (Also Naphis knows all about this so what does that say about him? All the Sages are so sus, but, I mean, isn't that just government?)
Here's the thick of it. Was Cyrus taking Cyno to the rain forest a good decision? I don't know. We just don't know enough about why he left and took Cyno. The quest didn't frame the action one way or the other, nor did it give the reasons he left or Bamoun didn't go after him.
There's generally three ways to frame this. 1. Cyrus was a saviour for taking Cyno from an abusive environment. 2. Cyrus was awful and stole Cyno's power for himself. I don't think either of these make sense, since in either case, I think Bamoun would have gone after them. I think most likely is 3. There were conflicting needs.
The one I'm leaning towards right now is that The Temple of Silence was desperate and willing to push harder than they should, even if it was going to harm the children, so as an outsider with a different perspective and more objectivity, Cyrus stopped the experiment. He knew Sethos wasn't at risk of being harmed nearly as much as Cyno because Sethos had a family there already looking out for him. Cyno didn't. People care less about a child who isn't part of their community vs one who is. So he took the child who was far more likely to be harmed, and left. Taking Sethos would have been even worse than just taking Cyno, imo, since it would be taking Sethos away from his family, whereas Cyno was already taken from his family. Bamoun realized the same thing in hindsight, which is why he let Cyrus and Cyno go. But again, that's just a headcanon about what happened.
As for the rest of the problem. While as previously mentioned, I'm very white, I'm also Canadian (I promise this is relevant). A bit of Canadian history here for those who might not know, Canada once had something called Residential Schools. These were boarding school for indigenous children who were forcibly taken from their parents to be "educated." There was a lot of abuses in them and I cannot over represent the amount of damage it has done to the indigenous peoples of Canada and the country as a whole, but the main reason I bring it up here is because of the way the government tried to kill indigenous culture through their children. While I don't think this was Cyrus' intent at all, it is a real world example very close to my heart of the damage it does to children to be cut off from their cultures. We see it in fostering and adopting children as well. Indigenous foster children are best kept with indigenous foster families when at all possible. Foster parents are told to try their best to keep their foster children connected to their cultures in the home but that isn't always achieved, nor is there always even an effort made. Mixed race families often practice both cultures with their children because know how important it is.
The fact that Cyno was completely cut off from the desert is wrong, and it would have been very difficult for him to face the discrimination for being a race that he has no cultural connection to. It's something Cyrus absolutely should have done more about. I mean The Corps of Thirty are eremites even if they aren't from the desert! Cyrus could have reached out to them on Cyno's behalf to introduce him to people who share cultural aspects (young!Dehya and Cyno friendship anyone?). He could have taken Cyno to Aaru Village (young Candace and Cyno friendship?) or at least spent time in Caravan Ribat. The only reasons I can think he didn't is because he was trying to keep Cyno away from the Temple of Silence out of fear they'd come after him (well intentioned but still harmful), he didn't think about it (obliviously harmful), he didn't have the time (willfully neglectful).
Cyrus also absolutely should have told Cyno about The Temple of Silence and Hermanubis, especially when he got a little older (although I'm for raising children with that sort of knowledge. Secrets only hurt later). Assume best intentions, he was pprobably trying to protect Cyno, maybe because he wanted Cyno to find his own path instead of the one the Temple of Silence laid out for him, but I still think that was a mistake to keep it a secret.
Cyrus is a very flawed person, but so are a lot of parents. That doesn't mean that his actions were right or justified, but it does make him an interesting character. It also makes his relationship with Cyno interesting. Canonically, Cyno isn't angry. He's already struggled and come to terms with who he is and what his power means, but I still think he and Cyrus need to sit down and have a long conversation. Cyno deserves answers about Cyrus' motives and decisions and they need to talk about Cyrus trying to protect Cyno vs Cyno not needing that protection, ways Cyrus should have acted differently, etc. I'd love to see somebody explore it; it would be interesting to see since it's definitely overdue, but I don't think I could do it justice.
I don't think it's wrong of Cyno to forgive Cyrus. We as the outside observer can say, "whoa, that's fucked up," but I don't think Cyno is necessarily wrong in how he feels. Like I said, he's already dealt with a lot of this already and is remarkably resilient. I think the hardest part of all this for Cyno would probably be Sethos, because that's definitely going to be a ton of messy emotions, but that doesn't have to reflect on Cyrus. It could, of course, and if somebody wanted to write Cyno as being angry and fracturing their relationship, that would be a valid way to go, but like, idk, I know a lot of people who made really bad decisions when raising their kids, and their kids still forgave them. Not always, and being a parent doesn't mean somebody deserves forgiveness for their mistakes, but I think it shows how resilient Cyno is that he bounces back from this so well. It shows his strength in his how convictions and beliefs, which is really interesting when compared to characters like Sethos and Kaeya (and man are there a lot of similarities between Cyno and Kaeya).
I also don't think finding those photos was intended to be Cyrus manipulating Cyno, but I can see how it feels that way. Since the quest was about Cyno, it felt like a nice narrative way to tie it together by reflecting on Cyno's childhood with Cyrus, but I think it really depends on how you view the entire situation and whether you think Cyrus should have taken Cyno. It's definitely a valid take and something that's okay to feel uncomfortable about.
This is where people might disagree with me, but Cyno grew up loved. He had a lot of challenges and Cyrus made a lot of mistakes, and love doesn't fix how fucked up it all is (lots of adopted kids are loved and still hurt by not having a connection to their culture), but Cyno has already accepted all of this and ultimately, he has forgiven Cyrus for his mistakes. I think that's what the photos were trying to depict.
To me, the entire quest does a very good job of using Cyno and Sethos as foils of each other. They're both paying for the decisions of the people who raised them, and neither are right or wrong, just different. It shows Cyno's growth as a person vs Sethos who hasn't yet found his way. It shows that neither Cyrus or Bamuon made the right decisions, nor were they evil people. They were doing the best they could at the time, and they both fucked up, and now it's up to Sethos and Cyno to figure it out, but they both still love their family despite whatever mistakes were made.
I hope this rambling essay length response is satisfying lol

| warnings . . . none!
Tumblr media
"matthew if your gonna stare you may as well just go in".
"hanbin shut up!"
if matthew is anything, he is someone who falls in love easily. he likes to admire people, even if he doesn't necessarily have a deep conversation with the person to end up falling hard for them.
that is exactly what is going on in this situation.
when i said that matthew likes to admire, i really meant it, because for the past fifteen minutes he's simply been admiring the boy who works the counter at the bubble tea shop instead of actually going in and ordering.
matthew wouldn't say they've talked, (if by talked you mean they said hi and hello then yeah they've talked), because he can't work up the courage to make any more conversation with him.
"matthew, if you want to talk to him so bad then do it" hanbin states firmly, and matthew turns to give his friend a glare.
"your supposed to help me!"
"your standing around like a creep how do i help you?" hanbin scoffs, matthew struggles to form a coherent sentence as he continues to glare at the sung, who laughs at his expression.
"i don't know mr 'i'm a love expert'" matthew begins, mimicking hanbin's voice. "your the one who said you wanted to help me!"
"how are you gonna ask him out if you can't even actually talk to him first?"
"i don't know! that's why i asked you to help me!"
"that's stupid matthew!"
matthew really can't control this random crush he developed out of the blue. the boy who works at the counter is just so pretty, soft spoken, and easygoing, literally anybody would fall in love.
his heart is way too weak for someone with that smile, he always wants to melt into a puddle whenever he hears the familiar; hi what can i get you today?
his voice is so pretty— so nice.
he even started remembering matthew's order, which makes him want to melt even more since he's actually so pretty.
"i think i'm starting to recognize you" matthew remembers him saying on a random monday. "i still don't know your name though, mind telling me?"
matthew felt his face go red at that very moment, he hated how those words were so casual yet affected him so much. "i— um.. uh, yeah! uh, matthew, my name's matthew".
his eyebrows raised. "are you a foreigner?" he inquired, tilting his head like he was trying to decipher matthew's name.
"i'm from canada" he said shyly, which is pretty abnormal for him. "but my parents are korean.."
"ah" the boy said, that pretty smile coming to his face. "that makes sense" he grabbed matthew's drink and handed it over to him.
"y/n".
"y/n" matthew repeated, he liked his name, it sounded right for some reason. "nice name" he said clearly, he didn't know how he said that clearly, he just did.
"come again soon".
when classes ended that day, matthew went to his room and screamed into his pillow for a whole fifteen minutes straight. he actually felt like he had a chance for once, but he also felt like the most delusional person to ever exist.
"hanbin! i'm literally dying! he kept smiling at me like— why is he so pretty!?"
matthew is not in his best element at the moment.
hanbin is clearly enjoying watching him suffer.
"are you finally gonna work up the courage to ask him out now?"
"wait— now? what do you mean now? i can't ask him out now! he'd think i'm weird, he'd think—"
"oh my god matthew!" hanbin yells over his friend. "come on! this is what you've been bothering me about for the past week! just do it!"
"i'm not as confident as you, hanbin!" matthew argues. "i just— i don't wanna have the wrong impression.." he mumbles, cuddling his pillow close to his chest.
hanbin stares at his best friend, sighing, patting his back. "ah, matthew, you and pretty boys".
it's obvious that matthew had absolutely no idea how to talk to boys he liked romantically, and y/n was one of those boys. he couldn't muster up any courage to ask him out, because he thought he'd embarrass himself by saying something wrong.
y/n though, didn't seem to mind his stuttering, because he found it cute.
one day, though, he just seemed to be having a particularly good day.
"you know, you make my day matthew" y/n says, leaning on his hand as he stares at him. matthew really can't tell if he's flirting or just being nice.
"i'm glad to hear that" matthew nods, feeling himself get nervous as he clears his throat. "um, uh.. y/n?"
"that is my name, yes" the barista replies, he gives that amazing smile he always looks at matthew with, and he feels as if he's about to melt.
"i— um, uh.."
matthew feels stupid, he can't get his words out because he keeps looking at y/n whose so focused on him and what he's saying that it makes it hard to speak straight.
y/n blinks, confused. "you okay?"
"will you go out with me!"
y/n stands there, frozen. he tilts his head for a moment, staring at the red faced, embarrassed matthew who was now covering his face with his hands, afraid of being rejected.
"agh, i'm so sorry, i'm awkward, and i get if you don't want to go out—"
"of course i will".
matthew squeaks, not believing the words that just came out of the barista's mouth. he can't bring himself to stare at y/n, thinking that he'd probably light on fire from making even the slightest eye contact with him.
"ahh, you need to stop this" matthew grumbles under his breath, finally removing his hands from his face and feeling his face go even more red when y/n laughed at his expression.
"stop what, matt?"
"your so pretty, your voice is so nice, and your effortlessly good at everything i hate it" he pouts, and y/n looks away to laugh once again, grabbing matthew's drink.
"do you plan on getting me boba for our first date?"
"i— uh, well.. haha!" matthew still wasn't doing the best. "your gonna have to wait! haha!"
"are you gonna take your drink or..?"
"yeah! right!"
matthew awkwardly giggles, taking his drink and giving a wide smile, nodding. "later! i'll see you later!"
y/n chuckles, waving at him. "i'll wait for you".
matthew giggles the whole way as he walks to his class, though he gets embarrassed by the way he talked.
at least he got a date! nothing else matters!

me constantly going in the CV tag despite knowing that it's 10% nice game fanart, 40% gifs of the show, and 50% some absolute braindamaging takes, is taking a toll on me
because after blocking the nth post admiring Lenore for playing Hector like a fiddle/saying Hector deserved to be enslaved for his original plan of culling mankind (nvm that babyboy Isaac was far more evil about it and he never got punished for wanting to "purify" the world)...
... I really want to think about Lenore and how I'd make her work with the crumbs that the show gave me lol
Lenore is obviously meant to be a parallel to Hector. Both of them are the animal lovers of their group, and mocked for it. Both of them are the "nice" ones in a group where cruelty reigns. Both of them are the least respected of their group - Dracula and Isaac shitting on Hector vs. Striga and Morana not even thinking about Lenore when they peace out. Both of them got used then discarded - yes, even Lenore, who became useless after enslaving Hector. Both of them are actually more of a threat than they look (allegedly, in Hector's case, but I can tell the intention was there).
Then there's the way they contrast. Lenore is a vampire who still clings on vestiges of humanity: she likes to eat food ("why live forever, if you're not going to live well?"), she rejects brute violence (again, allegedly) in favor of the more human art of diplomacy, she's compassionate about lesser creatures (humans included), and she's horrified at the realization that she is, deep down, nothing more than a greedy beast destined to crave more and more. Hector is a human alienated by humanity, who thinks culling is the kindest option, relates more to animals than his own species, and seems fascinated by the nature of vampires.
Imagine if the two actually bonded over this, and betrayed their "factions" because finally they found someone who respects them. And I mean organically bonded. On screen. With dialogue. Without the gross BDSM petplay. That part 100% has to go, it adds nothing, it's humiliation for humiliation's sake, it ruins Lenore's character, and it's just masturbation fuel.
I'd also change the scene where Lenore beats Hector. In my idea, Lenore flees from Hector's clutches, and then doesn't visit him again... for a week... and leaves him without food and water. By the time she comes back, Hector is desperate and is not above begging for some water, but she doesn't want to come close. "Are you going to hurt me again? :< you hurt me the last time :< you're so scary :< I did nothing to you and you tried to kill me :< I'm afraid that you'll do it again :<"
Basically, treating Hector like a rabid dog until he genuinely apologizes, and not only he learns the lesson that he shouldn't attack the only vampire who visits him, but he feels actually guilty and a terrible person about it. Made worse by how sensitive Hector probably is about all of this, as a love-starved abused child.
You know, manipulation, not just a brute display of strength to admire how stronk the girlboss is.
I don't know how their relationship would go from here, though. I only know that I'm more than happy with Lenore sunning herself: it is thematically coherent for her, her refusal to become like Carmilla, her guilt for hurting Hector, and if the two actually cared for each other, her choice to look at the only man who treated her with respect rather than the sun would be lovely.
Needless to say, we can only get here if she organically grows fond of him and doesn't rape him :^) but if she does, if she's really so cruel to hurt a man at his most vulnerable just to do what her sisters asked of her, then the story should treat her as such - and I'd also love to see Hector just snap, because by this point he's sick and tired of being seen as an object. Give him his big moment of taking down both vampires who hurt him. (in my vision not only he smashes Lenore's skull with his hammer, but he also takes a swing at Isaac - not killing him, just hurting him a little. please)
But I'd rather avoid that. I would like both characters to have agency - not even falling in love with each other, I don't care about that (they'd never be a cute couple anyway, not when she starts out as his jailer), just have a more interesting relationship built on two kindred spirits finding each other, but driven apart by their roles and nature. The vampire chooses death, the human grows and thrives.
There is sadly not going around the fact that Hector fell for two vampires (three if you count Dracula, but I can forgive that one) who employed the same strategy. I don't like the way Carmilla uses Hector either, but I can't be bothered to fix her rn.

hey! i just wanted to let you know that i really enjoyed your post about the mutiny on the L.L and your deeper dive into the social dynamics and inner thought processes involved there. especially when it comes to megatron being put into the lost light and how it was done with absolutely zero regard to not only the crew, but to rodimus specifically. OP put megatron on a ship in a position of power over rodimus (noting the whole "co-captain" thing and it going back and forth on whether its an actual title) and the entire crew, and it's honestly somewhat of a miracle that the mutiny even had time to develop as it did. like you said, there were a hundred other ways it could of played out. your post was a very interesting read and i really enjoyed it, kudos!
i do have to say though that the mech in the post isn't hound- it's hoist. (i get them mixed up so often as well it's not even funny, both green bots with 5 letter names starting with 'ho-', smh.) but overall your point still very much stands that there isn't just a surface level unhappiness with rodimus- there are many other factors playing into why someone would be a mutineer or how someone who is already isolated and vulnerable can be nudged onto that path by an outsider force. again, very good read, thank you for sharing!
LOL YOU'RE SUPER RIGHT ABOUT IT BEING HOIST
This is what I get for trying to check Tumblr and write a whole thing at 6 AM while working and getting ready to move at the same time!! My brain is cooked!!
That's the funniest mistake I've ever made, thank you for bringing it to my attention. Genuinely this is the most I've laughed in like two months, thank you. <3 I got so into it and never even noticed. LOL
I'll edit the post to highlight that I fucked it up but I'm not going to delete it because honestly I'm proud of how almost-coherent I was while this severely exhausted.
Anyway, thank you so much for the lovely comment, and I'm so glad you enjoyed reading it anyway! :) <3
I definitely wanted to highlight the panel as a general example of other factors and how they play into what might motivate an individual to mutiny, so the general point hopefully still holds up despite my very sleep deprived character mix-up, lmao.
But I'm glad the first half of the post is a little more coherent, as I think the disregard Optimus had for the command and crew of the Lost Light is one of the first and most significant single decisions that contributed to issues that persisted and affected other outcomes etc. and it's interesting to see how it all cascades together to contribute to the circumstances that fostered a mutiny.
I'm happy to hear you liked it, thank you so much for reading through it even though I was clearly very tired when I wrote it and rambled on for quite a bit! :')

Do you ever feel under appreciated or like your time is taken for granted with anons? Sometimes it seems like people treat you more like an admin than a person with a writing blog. This last anon is a good example, although it’s unfortunate that some of Ewan’s filmography is not available in some countries it’s really not that hard to look at Ewan’s wiki page to see the characters and look them up instead of getting upset you didn’t spoon feed them. Part of me hopes that these demanding kinds of people are teenagers and not grown women. Its like because you are the largest Ewan blog they think it’s your obligation to fill them in about every single thing and not lift a finger to try do it themselves.
I wouldn't say under appreciated or taken for granted, because I never created this blog with the intention of providing a service to anyone. I don't really have any goals/aims for this blog beyond sharing my writing and appreciation for the actor that inspires it, and to be supportive of others whose writing and art I enjoy.
Little bit of a rant coming under the cut. I don't know how coherent this will be lol I am in rather a sorry state due to weekend shenanigans.
It annoys me when people use their perception of me being a "big blog" as a means to dehumanise me. Acting entitled towards me, treating me as though I should behave a certain way, and set an example for others, because they have an idea in their head of what my follower count is. I have never made this figure public, I never will. I've never even done a follower celebration. Numbers don't mean anything to me, because I'm not here for a popularity contest. I don't even look at the note number on my fics anymore.
I don't view myself as a fandom leader or anything like that - I firmly believe that if you enter a fandom and there are blogs posing as such then you should turn tail and run - it will be toxic as fuck.
People ask me questions and I answer them. I write stories and people read them and enjoy them, or they don't. I read other people's work and reblog what I enjoy. It's not any deeper than that for me.
I'm tired of the ceaseless fandom drama, the anons being sent to and about me regarding a situation that was over nearly eight months ago. I want no part of it. I've owned up to my involvement, and I have moved on. I don't bear any ill will towards anyone in fandom, I simply want to exist in my own space.
I recently left every group chat that I was part of on Discord, as a means to distance myself from others and not be involved in any further gossip or accusations of "cliques". But the truth is, if people are determined to hate you then they'll find any means to do so no matter what you do.
I am tired of the endless grabs for popularity, the "me first" attitudes, the obsession with numbers, the "you talk to this person, so I won't talk to you" ideology. I am sick of how cruel and unsupportive and petty and spiteful people can be. The persistent bad faith takes are exhausting. People exist in this space with the view that everyone is out to get them, that the most innocent of actions are done with the intent to slight them. I would rather be a lonely, little island than endure that.
But I am done adjusting myself for the comfort of others. I will continue to exist in this space, I will continue to write, to support others and answer the asks I receive. Anyone that has an issue with that is not my concern. I will continue to block and ignore hateful and rude anons, and whatever people choose to say about me behind my back is not my business.
Apologies for the slight tangent there. TL;DR: it annoys me when people dehumanise me and treat me as though I am a faceless online presence rather than an actual human being, but I am trying my best to detach from it and carry on as normal.

hi hello I just woke up so I’m sorry if this is not coherent whatsoever!! Anyway, *throws my headcanons at you.*
Coriolanus Snow:
Literal definition of just a little guy. Does he go on to be an awful person? OK YES MAYBE but for now he’s a little guy
Probably like a baby regressor. I cannot be the only person who saw him in the hospital and was like ??? Are those children’s pyjamas ??? (It was a hospital gown and I know that now.)
Has such a strong hate towards regressing like he will actively avoid it,,,he’s probably never would’ve done it willingly if Sejanus didn’t talk him into it like a lot.
Def regresses because of trauma. He’s lived through a war and never really had a childhood!! *shakes your shoulders aggressively* HOW ARE WE SLEEPING ON THIS????
He is such a crybaby…but like in the way where he tries so hard to bottle everything up because he doesn’t want to inconvenience anyone (no I’m not projecting wtf are you talking about?? /sarc) anyway he fails every time
It’s also always a battle to get him to eat, you must act like this is the most yummy thing in the world then maybe just maybe he’ll take a bite.
Personal headcanon that he never actually gave the plinth family that photo, like he had full intentions too but dude kept it for himself and would get a little sad and small when he sees it :((
ANYWAY GOING BACK TO CANON NOT BEING REAL BECAUSE ITS SAD. Definitely like needs baby stuff like pacifiers and fluffy pyjamas and stuffed animals. Because first and foremost he’d look so cute with them and secondly Sejanus would so have the money for it like dude would probably build a nursery
Coryo is so anxious to use said baby stuff because he partially thinks he doesn’t deserve it and partially thinks that he shouldn’t be regressing in the first place which like :((
Final thoughts is that Sejanus is definitely main cg I mean hello?? And Lucy Gray and Tigris babysit him sometimes
Sejanus Plinth:
Caregiver. Fretting overprotective caregiver to an anxious crybaby Coryo.
Definitely leans towards the sappier nicknames, “sweetheart, baby,” occasionally “kiddo.”
Will spoil Coryo to hell and back.
Not strict whatsoever, the biggest punishment this man would be willing to give would be a five minute time out. Realistically. He’s also morally against punishments so Coryo would probably have to do something absolutely awful to deserve that.
Definitely better with younger Littles, which is why him and Coryo fit so well together.
Realistically he won’t leave Coryo alone for even a second in headspace, one he’s just clingy like that, and two, he doesn’t want anything happening to him while he’s gone.
Brings Coryo his Ma’s homemade cookies. He knows this boy doesn’t eat as much as he should be.
:3 just felt a little silly goofy
also love love love LOVE your hc so much thank you for feeding into my new obsession lol
Pretty sure we have opposite time zones then hahaha Thankyou for gracing me with your hcs!! Adding another break because I just kept ranting about them hahaha
obviously, Sejanus would spoil Little Coryo for sure - and I've definitely thought about Coryo being a regressor from trauma and lack of childhood because YES. ALSO THANKYOU!!! THE HOSPITAL SCENE??? So glad we have mutual feelings on that because he was giving some strong kiddo vibes there
I always get scared to hc characters as baby regressors - I personally regress in the baby/young toddler area and idk I just get worried I'm projecting too hard so that was a pleasant surprise to see you hc lol - I feel like Little Coryo would be in more of a toddler bracket most of the time but then slip younger when he's tired or emotional - or god forbid, sick.
also thankyou for totally understanding the crybaby thing - he's just an overwhelmed little kid - literally anything could be the thing to push him into a breakdown - he's trying his best!!
and YES can we PLEASE discuss Little Coryo's relationship with food because herbfi;erbfuibf - I think he's difficult no matter what, and I feel like it'd be one of the ONLY things he'd 'act out' about - I don't think Little Coryo would really understand why he feels weird about food - definitely whines about being hungry but then won't accept anything offered to him - says that he 'doesn't like' something when Sejanus knows for a FACT he does - stuff like that. Also (as someone who, no matter how badly wishes they did like it, I don't like basically any fruit ever 😭) HOWEVER, I just have a feeling based on nothing, that Little Coryo would love most fruit. Like it's one of the only consistent snack options that will work on him
DO NOT TALK TO ME ABOUT THAT PHOTO 😭😭😭
Sejanus would 100% put together a nursery for Coryo and Coryo would 100% tell him to get rid of it immediately and then secretly adore it - the self hate Coryo would have over anything regression related is real
Coryo definitely plays very intricate imaginative storylines out with his stuffed animals and can never really explain it to Sejanus who would sit and watch and try to figure out what the hell is going on for half an hour
Sejanus my love - so overprotective - so gentle with Little Coryo. He absolutely uses 'sweetheart' and 'baby' all the time. In my opinion, he'd get so proud of anything Little Coryo does and would have such a hard time keeping his regression a secret because he'd just want to brag about his kiddo all the time. Drawings? Reading aloud? Eating? Looking cute? Sejanus is so proud of him! He wants everyone to know that Little Coryo is his! Sejanus would never do/say anything Coryo wouldn't want though - so he just makes sure to praise Little Coryo, all the time.
Completely agree - Sejanus would not be a strict caregiver at all - he does not see the point in punishing Coryo when he could explain why he shouldn't do something - especially when Coryo is going to feel guilty enough already for acting out
Also was thinking earlier about Little Coryo having a NEED to soak up all of Sejanus's attention and was thinking about how through his childhood Tigris had definitely looked out for him, but really they were leaning on each other - and also totally fending for themselves - Tigris was a wonderful cousin but she's barely that much older than Coryo - and then started thinking about how Coryo's mother died in labour, when he was already quite young, which would basically mean that most memories of his mother he has, she'd be pregnant. So pregnant mother and a father who's left to help fight the war when he's VERY young, then two dead parents, a grandmother who's pinning her faith on HIM, and a cousin who's doing her best to look after him, while he grows up scavenging and pretending he's not only fine, but actually living a perfect rich life??? The childhood trauma here is really unmatched - of course he's clingy and a bit of a cry baby when regressed, of COURSE he wants to steal every bit of Sejanus's attention!! When has he ever been the SOLE POINT of someone's attention? ughhh I can't stop thinking about all the fic opportunities.
anyway THANKYOU VERY MUCH for the hcs and I hope to scream about more of them soon with you lol <3

Some education/symptoms list about "schizophrenic rambling":
Hi, howdy folks. Today [edit: 2 days ago now, on Friday NZ time) I am once again experiencing a flare-up of schizospec symptoms after a day of overexertion yesterday, and I somehow managed to be organized enough (yes, baffling, I know) to group these similar symptoms all together. So I thought it might be nice to share. A little pre-amble (or rather pre-ramble, amirite ;) )/foreword of thoughts:
If you ever witness "schizophrenic rambling", please be considerate and don't make fun of them!! - as this person may be experiencing something that they can barely help, because of their brain wiring. Please think about what we are going through. And it can really be embarrassing enough for us rambling in public, feeling like we have little to no control over it when it takes over. So without further ado, (before I really do descend into a ramble, because this is just me getting started lol) the aforementioned symptoms:
Logorrhoea:
In psychology, logorrhea or logorrhoea (from Ancient Greek λόγος logos "word" and ῥέω rheo "to flow") is a communication disorder that causes excessive wordiness and repetitiveness, which can cause incoherency. [x]
Graphorrhoea:
In psychology, graphorrhea, or graphorrhoea, is a communication disorder expressed by excessive wordiness with minor or sometimes incoherent rambling, specifically in written work.[1] Graphorrhea is most commonly associated with schizophrenia [x]
Idiosyncratic speech:
What is the psychiatric term for excessive talking?
Idiosyncratic speech—sometimes referred to as "excessive talking," "non-stop talking," or "unwarranted talking"—lacks the urgency associated with compulsive speech, which tends to be intense and pressing. Idiosyncratic speech might represent a personality trait, a thought pattern, or a personal preference. [x]
Tangentiality:
What is an example of Tangentiality?
Tangential Thinking
For example: "I really got mad as I was waiting in line at the grocery store. I cannot stand lines. Waiting and waiting. I waited for a long time to get my driver's license. [x]
(this last one I really relate to)
Flight of ideas:
In schizophrenia, flight of ideas may include disorganized speech patterns, fragmented thoughts, and a lack of logical coherence. Common flight of ideas examples include: Rapid speech: Individuals may speak quickly and incessantly, often without pauses or interruptions.
Flight of ideas occurs when thoughts rapidly flow, often involving fast-paced speech, topic jumping, and difficulty maintaining focus.
Flight of ideas are thoughts that go really fast and might not make sense to others. [x]
Racing thoughts:
Individuals’ minds may feel overwhelmed by rapid and continuous thoughts. Racing thoughts keep coming one after another, making slowing down or controlling these thoughts challenging. [x]
Pressured speech:
Pressured speech means individuals talk really fast or interrupt others because they can’t slow down. They may feel like their words are rushing out [x]
Yes I know I know, unironically quoting Wikipedia lol (regardless, I feel I've done a good job and I'm proud and I can verify first-hand that these symptoms are real. The above is still better info than WebMD or a lot of other online health publications aka Dr. Google). But hey I'm disabled and this is the best I can do for now, running out of spoons. I've done what I can, spending hours researching and experiencing first-hand these symptoms, and it is all I can do this morning to put this post together.
So I allow myself to take the burden of proof off of myself for the day, and instead put the burden of further education of oneself onto the non-schizospec (we are tired enough as it is always having to advocate/stand up for ourselves to often deaf ears, please don't expect us or stigmatized disabled folks to always do all the work on abolishing stigma).
Obligatory pre-emptive defensiveness aside, I hope this helped open up your mind a little to just some of the many experiences of severe mental illness.
To non-schizospec/non-psychotics:
It can feel incredibly embarrassing for us "rambling" a lot publicly - but at the end of the day, at least we know we're usually "rambling" for good reason: getting our story/experiences out and actually expanding mental health awareness.
It actually takes a lot out of us to keep doing the full-time job of trying to educate you on having compassion for us and treating us better, so please don't let it be in vain, please listen to what we are trying to say, even if we may come off as incoherent at a glance.
Post-amble ramble:
Collecting and listing names of the symptoms I experience kinda helps me cope and make sense of it all and validates my struggles so I can forgive myself for simply experiencing symptoms. It can feel incredibly embarrassing for us "rambling" a lot publicly - but at the end of the day, at least I know I'm usually rambling for good reason: getting my story/experiences out and expanding mental health awareness. So I'm not just "being difficult" - I'm experiencing symptom flare-ups/disabling features of my disability; I'm not just "lazy" - I'm fatigued as hell and need rest. So if you wouldn't point and laugh at someone in a wheelchair, and find the idea of doing so repulsive, disgusting, unforgiveable, etc - don't point and laugh at us for our disability.
Sorry if this became messy and hard to read/too many words, but as per the point of the post, I am trying my best - and it took me three days just to get this posted/write + edit down all the relevant tags to fit within the 30-tag limit. If anyone knows more about these symptoms please add.
On Schizophrenia + Psychosis Awareness Day on 24 May (NZT, or New York time or later depending on my capacities closer to the time) I'm planning to do a bit more of a master list of all the symptoms I can think of off the top of my head that I have experienced, so stay tuned. Already wrote it for mother's day but missed that so figured it's more natural on Schizospec day lol
Extra keywords:
Idk if this works but, extra keywords for visibility/reach and possible other conditions to experience these symptoms:
anxiety, depression, autism, actually autistic
(Also the communities that have tended to speak over us in the mental health and neurodivergence discussion/community. I say this even being autistic myself. Please let other conditions into the discussion and not just the "cool/trendy" ones)

A Thousand Sons 2
Is this disjointed? Yes. Am I going to organize it into something more coherent? No.
I'm remembering all the Ultramarines in Know No Fear being completely shooketh at the thought of Astartes killing Astartes meanwhile Magnus is like "I'm going to kill you" to the Space Wolf captain dude
the framing around Othere's introduction is kind of romance novel and given what I've been spoiled on that makes me uncomfortable.
‘I know well your name, Ahzek Ahriman,’ said Wyrdmake, with a feral grin, ‘for I have long desired to meet you.’
This is a good way to end a chapter, though.
the bulked musculature of his smooth torso
now my mental image of Ahriman's torso is of a cylinder
also lol, Magnus calls the SW captain a whelp this is after: -telling him to take off his mask because he wants to see a mans face before he kills him -threatening to destroy all their ships in orbit
Magnus is not a diplomat, to put it mildly
Magnus is a great example of how intelligence is not wisdom
Honestly the Space Wolves are currently coming off the better in this conflict.
-i feel like removing the ability for your soldiers to panic would be far more useful than removing the ability to fear -how on earth did the TS manage to conquer any planets on their own i must ask -current theory Magnus went and did Aang's marble trick in front of the planetary leaders -McNeill is once again Gross when women show up on page, i will spare the exact quote -also this whole book is like...kind of horny is a plausible deniability way?? i don't know how to describe it. It's really not enhancing the reading experience -Magnus received one (1) sympathetic moment, his main redeeming quality is that he does in fact care about the TS and they were the reason he decided to go deeper into the Warp, to save them -greasy tentacles. okay. moving along. the snake: bro im a daemon
‘Daemon is a meaningless word, a name to give power to fear.’ ‘I know, isn’t it wonderful?’ smiled the serpent, coiling around Magnus’s legs and slithering up his body. Magnus did not fear the serpent. He could destroy it without effort.
you know im kind of getting tired of slithering things no more slithering things grabbing people and wrapping around them to drag them off into the depths society has moved beyond the need for slithering things
This book has just been a slog tbh.
Timeskipt and...ITS A BIRD WORLD I LOVE IT except for the fact that they're, you know, conquering it ;-;
As well as this lost strand of humanity, Heliosa was a world that belonged to the creatures of the air. The skies were alive with flocks of every description, from tiny, insect-sized creatures that fed on guano to rabid pterosaurs that hunted from lairs in hollowed-out peaks. More than one Imperial craft had been lost to bird strikes before weapon systems were modified to provide continuous clearance fire.
me @ the birds: you're doing amazing sweetie
‘What happens here after we leave is not our concern.’ Ahriman shook his head. ‘But it should be,’ he said. ‘Guilliman has the way of it. The worlds his Legion wins venerate his name and are said to be utopias. Their inhabitants work tirelessly for the good of the Imperium as its most loyal subjects. The people of these worlds will be reluctant citizens of the Imperium at best, rebels-in-waiting at worst.’ ‘Then we will return and show them what happens to oathbreakers,’ snarled Wyrdmake.
hey. Ohthere. Oaths given under duress aren't valid.
current evaluation of Leman Russ: I don't like him either, but he's not quite as obnoxious as Magnus yet

WITCH AND WARRIOR... also mystify i am vv curious about both
OKAY OKAY OKAY- you asked about two of my favourite stories lol, prepare for an info dump
I am so freaking half sleep right now but if I don't answer this ask right now I'll sit on it for two months so we'll see how coherent I am and how much I get through before I crash entirely
Witch and Warrior is a story that was inspired entirely off of a piece of epic music I was listening to and most importantly, the artwork that went along with the music. It was actually two artworks smashed into one but you couldn't tell so anyway I wanted to write a story about two sisters (and tangent here but later I read a book with a similar but veyr different premise very good book would recommend if I can remmber the title of it)
I'm extremely insecure about the names I gave them but I'm also too tired to rename them right now so um um um um panik
We have sister 1, she's the older one, she's got pink hair (on the lighter red side), don't question it. Sister 2 is the younger one (like 2 years age difference), she's got blue hair (on the darker black side), don't question it.
Anyway so magic in this world was outlawed like thirty years ago before either of our peeps were born. And then was this giant purge to kill everyone born with magic. Those who lived fled to the outskirts of the kingdom but it's surroudned by a lotta lotta lotaa mountains so they settled in this inhabitable forest on the outskirts instead. THe forest is filled with a bunch of mutant, wild beasts, so the kingdom never settled it, but the magic users are desperate and they end up taming the beasts.
Welp the kingdom doesn't like that so they start this massive war to try to wipe out the last of the magic people once and for all (nevermind the fact that more magical people are still being born)
The problem is that they have to go the magic users, who have the use of A) their magic, B) the familiar terrain, and C) their mutant beasts. So it's less a traditional battlefield and more crazy bush warfare that I forgot the name of and so we end up in this unique situation where having more soldiers can actually hurt the kingdom's army because it limits their mobility.
Course, it's a big kingdom so they get lots of soldiers they don't really need, but they're resourceful and what do you do when you have too many resources? Throw them away.
But we'll get back to that in a sec
There's a bunch of different types of magical people
Witches - they're conjurers. they can make stuff out of nothing. all the stuff they make though will be made of the same stuff. That doesn't make sense. Like if one of them makes a spear and their thing is dirt, their spear will be made of dirt. only it won't literally be made of dirt, but it will look like it is. it's made of magic and the magic happens to look like dirt. it's different for every witch. one person might be ice, another stone, someone might lightning, who knows. Not super powerful, pretty good at hiding themselves, except their magic reacts when they come into contact with their thing. so if someone has the dirt thing, when they walk on dirt, the dirt will react to it. It uh- makes a lot more sense in my head. Like the most common type of magic to have, make up the bulk of the magic peep army. They fight in pairs so they can watch each others backs.
Sorcerers - elemental type magics. tend to be extremely powerful and wildly out of control. Get discovered quickly because their magic is hard to control. They sit at the back of battle fields and bombard the enemies. magic is not as good up close, can be dangerous. they're guarded by witches most of the time. very rare. the army focuses them specifically because they can do the most damage.
Wizards - rune based magic. very slow to cast, mostly used for traps or for not battle related things like growing crops, building, etc. They'll prep battefields in anticipation of the army and so the army sends out scouts to set off their traps before they attack. Uncommon ish? probably the second most common? very good at remaining undetected
Warlocks - summoners. they summon beasts and demons and such. will sometimes accidentally do so as children which gets them caught, but if they make it past then, they're good. tend to keep around summons trahter than summoning bunch of stuffs, bonds and all that. uncommon to rare(?)
pretty sure there was another one but I don't remember what it was... it's in my notes but do I want to go look at them right now?
oh hey I think the magic people are called the Coalition, so um yeah I'll refer to them at that. that's the magic people who are in the forest.
Mages - oh right! these are shapeshifters! they're not common. can make mistakes when imitating people. causes a lot of problems for the army cause spies and stuff. need to have identification things in place to make sure they don't get infiltrated
Gifters - not sure if they'll stay in the final story or not but they can grant people abilities but it slowly kills them
Anyway, so magic people are always the first born of the family. not every family, but only the first born will have magic if there is magic to be had.
so Sister 1 is SIKE the younger of the two (also they have a younger brother, who is probs like 5 years younge ror something). they did a switcheroosual with Sister 2 because they realized she was gonna have magic, like some prophetic dream or something, so in order to keep anyone from getting suspicious of her, they made her the younger child
The oldest is super important in this culture. they get all the rights, all the attention, all the glory. they inherit the house. other children are often overlooked and married off.
-- oh also objects can absorb magic over time, so old things are actually very valuable, they have to be well cared for and it just leaks into them can't really happen on purpose but yeah that's important
so Sister 1 is the one everyone is paying attention to going to events and stuff also they're nobility did I mention that? they're the house of Sayithmar um dragon themed crest I think? very highly honoured, very important, very rich, very close to the king.
brub okay I'm tired enough that I can't be insecure anymore so Sister 1 is named Omikiia and sister two is named Luesivra yes I know how to pronounce those no i won't tell you how don't make fun of me I was going through a weirdly spelled name phase and I got too attached
(infodumping while tired is very funa ctually highly recommend this is going far better than I expected)
Anyway so Omikiia is running the show but like their fathr does something stupid and he's gonna be executed for it and she's like "halt" and makes this deal with the king because he's known to like to gamble and so she says okay I'll joing the army and so long as I'm alive you keep my father alive but you can arrest him if you want. And the king's like well okay you'll both die this is fine and he accepts
So she goes running off to war and leaves Luesivra behind to suddenly run the place. And so for all intents and purposes, she is now the eldest child. also her father is gone and her mom is dying ooops so she inherits the estate and begins representing the family in noble affairs and yeah she is quite literally ruler of the house now.
Well so remember how I said too many soldiers in the army in actually a bad thing? But they have so many so what they do is they throw the untrained newbies at the sorcerers in the back because a lot of people die fighting them and it doesn't make sense to lose trained soldiers when they can overwhelm them with the fresh meat instead.
Omikiia figures this out pretty quickly. She doesn't want to die, she doesn't want her new friends to die
So there's this thing in the army
It's run by ten generals. There's the upper nine and then there's the one, known as the King's General. this is the guy in charge. the other nine generals are their support and advisors and all that jazz
Anyway, traditionally, anyone can challenge anyone else in the army to a duel. If they win, they get to take their position. Survival of the fittest and all that, strongest people make the rules.
In a desperate scheme to change things, she challenges one of the generals to a duel and oops she wins even though she's young. cause um, she a prodigey with the sword also her sword is magical so yeah taht kind of helps
There is, unfortunately, a rule that you have to be one of teh Nine for a year before you can challenge the King's General for their spot in order to prevent take overs like this, so in the meantime Omikiia starts weasling her friends into support positions, then she challenmges the King's General, beats him, takes over the army as the yougnest General ever, and starts changing things
She duels a lot of people to earn respect, kicks out half of the nine to replace with her own people while keeping the other half for their experience and stuff
So she basically takes over, yay!
Meanwhile Luesivra is trying not to die in the noble ranks and long story short she ends up engaged to the crown prince (who has an older brother from a previous wife of the king who was a commoner and therefore not eligible for her children to hold the throne because it must always stay in pure noble blood). She's like, really good in the court, people respect her, she's keeping her house alive, her sister is the King's General, suddenly this house that put itself on the edge of disaster is thriving, and the king who doesn't like his son very much wants to control that house and she kind of wants the protection of this marriage but also if either of them find out she's a witch, she'll be killed
oh yeah she's a witch by the way. I think I forgot to mention that
Luesivra is the witch, Omikiia is the warrior, hence the name of the story
Anyway, Mystify! Also known as Code Mystify, also known as my dearly beloved story, also known as the thing inspired off about ten seconds I saw of a video game I ahve never played, hence also being calld the video game story- yeah it's great!
umm I don't remember if you were there when I rambled about Wraith on the discord server but htis is her story!
So we have this country I think I called it something with an A or other I'll find it again in seven months probably
anyway they have something called the Aeon Games (yes the game has a name I forgot I named it not sure what I think but yep it stays for now) they call it the Aeon Stage sometimes yeah it's cool
basic rules for it that are constantly under revision. each player combatant etc whateveryawanna call them has a series of crystal-things that are set into their outfits. break all the things and they're out. or alternatively, you can kill them. or knock them out. or maim them. whatever you want really.
In one on one fights, which are uncommon except for show, breaking their crystals is how you win. in team fights which are the norm, there are checkpoints you need to capture. kind of like capture the flag I guess?
the stages are dynamic, with moving terrain, lots of varied land, each arena is different, yada yada
Anyone can technically sign up to try and get hired by a team but most won't be
The teams are made of eight players. Typically, you'll have three defending and the other four split into pairs to go on the offensive. does vary from team to team though.
So Wraith, for those who don't know, is like an S class player. She's the high of the high, the best of the best, everyone fears her and everyone wants her. she has the highest kill count on record, of both enemies and her own teammates. high casualty and injury rate in games with her. everyone on her team has to sign a thingie saying that like you can't sue the team if she kills you. Killing isn't encouraged but it's not forbidden.
She was on this team but due to inner drama (revolving around a well intentioned now ex-boyfriend who didn't communicate the most effectively) she left.
Well, there was this team who was in the lower ranks, playing on a local region level, known as Team Flashfire. And they were good, but they were also very low profile and the company who owned them didn't have the money to support the team for long. They weren't getting high enough ranked matches so they weren't getting much visibility and they weren't making enough money. the company declared bankruptcy and sold off their player's contracts (yes that is allowed but the players can also terminate the contract instead)
Well there's this other company, Mystify, who dabbles in the arcane magically thingies of the world and they're rich, very successsful, so hey why not they started a Aeon Game team because well- they can
So they bought the contracts off of this low profile team and ended up with three players (there were more, but some of them left) from that team. Mercy (known occasionally as Miracle but gosh darn her previous name stuck too hard), Terrablaze, and Sentinel. They all know each other and have played together before.
Mercy is unique in that she is capable of reviving people. This is unheard of. She can only do it within a several minute timeframe before their soul entirely disconnects from their body and they're dead for good. On the battefield, that's not a lot of time especially when you're actively being kept away from fallen teammates. She doesn't have to do it often, but it does make her extremely valuable. (completely unrelated but she gets a girlfriend with shadow powers later)
Terrablaze has elemental powers but like- they feel different vibe wise than most of mine but like functionally are the same. But mostly she actually fights with her guns and grenades that she customizes herself.
Sentinel has like, the ability to animate stone? also is sturdy. yep. He also is more weapon-based like Terrablaze, whereas Mercy and Wraith are more power-based in their combat styles.
there's more details there but my memory is fuzzed and I am tired
Wraith counts as two players because she has this soulbound companion, Ashes. Their powers are linked together, but Ashes is technically a separate entity with its own body so they count it as its own player, but they share a player contract. So in terms of recruitment, they're one, in terms of how many people you can submit to a game, they're two. It's complicated. She can bring shadows to life and they attack people and possess things and also she blip in between them. and probably other stuff, still working out the fine details.
That's five people, then they have two more, Chimera and Visage (illusion-y transformaton based powers + more charmy enchantress ish powers), who are these four foot tall lizard people, very cute, they're a married couple, I adore them.
that's only seven...
oh yeah, they have this other teammate but she dies so I forgot who she is. then they get this dude Hijink who has glitchy powers. he can glitch through reality (weird teleport thing) and disrurpt other people's abilities.
So, at first it's just the three from Teamflaze (flaze?? Team Flashfire wow) who get hired (for a tiny bit of information, Terrablaze was the 'team captain' of sorts and actually the person the team was named for. In the Mystify team, Wraith is the 'team captain' because she is the most experienced player by far)
Wraith has been a game player for eleven years. most people are only players for like five. high casualty rates also it's traumatic also it pays ludicrously so if they want money they get that quickly. If they're good, that is
The Mystify people actually only take the Team Flashfire because they wanted Mercy because her abilities are so unique. (she can also make this glowing gooy crystaly magically stuff. I'll draw it one day then it'll make sense) also working with Wraith it's interesting because Wraith is infamous for killing her teammates as often as she does her enemies (read: soul bound to a sensitive and extremely dangerous creature from another realm who has a very poor grasp on human emotions and cannot tell the difference between frustration, fear, anger, adrenaline, and generally being upset. Said creature's impulse is also to attack rather than wait out situations)
But Mercy can kind of bring people back so... for the first time in her life, Wraith has some leeway with her out of controlness.
She has a chance to make friends without killing them
Oopsies
anyway that's the gist of both stories. there is of course lots more but thanks for asking I'm gonna go sleep now I am so very tired I hoped this all made sense but before I go!!
Have a little snip of sixteen year old Wraith struggling at social functions while Ashes is Not Helpful. (For additional context, Wraith is from another country and she is still very unfamiliar with the culture and language of this place. This is a party thrown by game players that her team got invited to. Ashes just doesn't do people. Oh also Wraith has a tail and horns like maybe I should mention that)
She dodged elbows with significantly less grace than she dodged attacks in the arena. She was so focused on not accidentally touching anyone that she kept backing up into clumps of people. She scuttled away immediately every time, before they could drag her into a conversation.
She had to keep her tail tucked against her legs to prevent it from being stepped on. Someone brushed their fingers through her hair as she ducked past; the thick, silky fibers slid from their grasp like water in a closed fist. Wraith still yelped softly.
Despite how she’d grown physically, she still felt painfully aware that she was the youngest person here.
Laughter boomed around her, as loud as the bangs of guns in the arena. The concentration of people did nothing to disperse the sound. It echoed off of bodies just as well as walls.
“Eyy!” Someone draped his arm over her shoulder. She moved to flip him over and crack his skull open on the marble floor but- Oh- Swagger.
He moved with far less grace than his name would suggest, leaning heavily on her while his other hand swished a glass around haphazardly.
“Wraaiiith!” He drawled, spilling pungent breath out of his mouth and all over her face. She stiffened, wishing it was considered as appropriate to break arms to escape outside of the Aeon Stage as it was within, “I’ven’t seen you all day!”
“I saw you an hour ago,” she pulled gently away from him. His weight followed her, balancing him dangerously in her arms. She reluctantly held him up so he didn’t fall. He was her teammate after all.
And considering how many of them she’d- she’d-
A little kindness was the least she could do.
He waved a hand aimlessly, “Pfst. Here! ‘Ave a drink!”
He inserted a cup into her free hand. It was full of a dark red liquid that smelled about as good as Swagger did.
She didn’t like him very much.
“I don’t want it,” she tried to say but he pushed her hand more forcefully towards her face. She stumbled back, releasing his weight in order to steady herself. Her tail lashed wildly, banging into legs and unintentionally moving the crowd away from her.
And sure enough, Swagger crashed gracelessly to the floor.
Lovely.
His nose cracked upon meeting the unforgiving surface and spat out blood angrily.
Wraith’s stomach churned unhappily at the sight, but it wasn’t anything she was unfamiliar with.
“You are drunk,” she decided, despite not knowing what that meant; it was what everyone else said to him when he got like this.
She looked around for a spot to deposit the drink he’d given her. They were always served at these parties, though she’d never cared to try one. She’d eat when they got back to the player quarters.
She handed it off to the first hand she saw: Ashes’, and knelt to help Swagger up.
“‘Mfine,” he mumbled disorientedly, swaying on his feet as she lifted him, “tis a scratch.”
“It is your nose,” she corrected.
“Mhat’s wat I said.”
She set him up so he was standing; he continued to cling to her shoulder for support.
He shook out his hair, completely ignoring the blood that went flying from his nose. It looked decidedly crooked.
He broke it.
“Ashes, can you- help… me?”
The creature in question was munching on the remains of the cup she’d given it. Its ears rose inquisitively towards her.
She ignored how the glass would probably come back up in a steaming, liquified puddle in the middle of the night and she’d have to clean it up. “Can you help me carry Swagger over to Surgha and Glarald?”
Ashes slurped down the last of the glass. Swagger gave an intense shudder at the sight of it sliding down the creature’s translucent throat membrane. Wraith ignored him and heaved him towards her companion, who obediently maneuvered its way underneath him, so he was now draped over Ashes’ back instead of Wraith’s shoulders.
“Thanks,” she pushed her hair, which was beginning to fall out of its braids, out of her face and stood up straight, “Do you see them?”
Ashes nippled on the edge of Swagger’s jacket, eyes trained on Wraith attentively. It gave no outward reaction to her question. The only indication she had that she’d been heard were the specks of excitement and curiosity that wavered through their bond.
“We’re not doing anything fun,” she warned.
Ashes yipped disappointedly.
“I know,” Wraith soothed.
“S’why you follo’d by ‘at ‘hin anyway?” Swagger muttered deliriously, “mght be a demon or smthng.”
The crowd seemingly took one glance at Swagger’s bleeding nose and another at Wraith, before deciding this was normal and moving on. She watched with frustration, unable to get a glimpse of any of her other teammates over the bobbling bodies and heads. No one stopped to help.

Shuichi Saihara
Poor guy would do everything to hide his illness from you, he really doesn't like people worrying about him.
He canonically skips breakfast a lot, so he honestly wouldn't get very far with the above plan. Either fainting at his desk, or just becoming very obviously weak.
You carry him to bed and turn the lights out. You wheel his desk chair to his bedside and sit down, open up your laptop, and adjust the brightness, making it the only dim light in the room.
He sleeps most of the time, but would try to stay awake for the interrogation analyses you'd put on for him (Speaking from experience: Interrogation analyses are actually really interesting and easy to focus on when you're sick. Consider this a sick tip from a pro).
OH AND HE LIKES ACE ATTORNEY!!!! Snuggle up next to him and play ace attorney,,,, he ships klapollo,,,,
He's really weak and fragile. Out like a light and rarely wakes up to do anything. He's really upset that he can't do any work while he's sick in bed, but you're good at assuring him that he deserves all the rest in the world and he can always catch up later.
Can't stomach a lot of food, he doesn't eat a lot to begin with and the added nausea makes it pretty much impossible to keep stuff down.
He hugs pillows,, he gives them hugs,, hug me instead pls
Very apologetic and says he's sorry every time he needs something from you. You'd eventually convince him that he's worth everything and you're happy to help him get better.
Delirious Shuichi would be either a nervous, hallucinating mess, or the only time in history where his anxiety would go poof and he could just stare blankly at the wall and smile like an idiot. Or both.
Kaito Momota
(Assume he doesn't have his canon illness here.)
At first you don't even notice a thing, he's the same loud and confident guy he always is. Well, it seems that way, at least.
Tiny little things start adding up to something bigger; his cheeks are pink, his voice is a little scratchy, his hand is warmer when you hold it...
Everything goes downhill when Kaito's voice crAcks and he finds himself unable to speak, therefore unable to convince you that he's fine (he ain't lol). One big coughing fit later, he's in his bed with the lights out, his arms crossed tight and his face flashing an angry, defeated pout.
He's all like "I'm the Kaito Momota, Luminary of the Stars! Some pesky illness is no match f- *COUGH* *HACK* *COUGH COUGH* *gasp* *COUGH*" bro needs a hug
Tired ramblings are all about space. They'd actually be pretty interesting if they were coherent. He won't stop talking even with the hoarseness of his voice.
He keeps trying to get out of bed to get stuff instead of asking you but he either kinda gives up halfway through and crawls back to bed or you catch him and give him a lecture.
He really really wants a hug but doesn't know how to ask D:
Before he falls asleep he just kinda looks at you and holds his arms out, you understand and give him the hug he's wanted all day... he yoinks you into bed with him and falls asleep with his arms around you
Kokichi Ouma
He'd mostly look fine at first but you notice he's a lot more careful physically, like walking a lot slower and protecting his stomach with his hands. If he had known it'd slowly get harder to hide his illness he wouldn't have come out of his room, but of course it's too late now.
He thinks he's doing a good job when... "Kokichi, you ok?"
The professional liar's mind would be too foggy to properly lie. A stupid guilty smile and two full minutes of tired stuttering go by.
Now normally if you tried to grab the small guy he would run away and you'd have to chase him for hours, but he just can't do that today. He's already getting tired despite not doing anything, his vision is slowly fading and his legs are starting to give out. He knows what's good for him deep down and, as much as he hates it, he'll let you scoop him up into your arms.
Once he accepts that he's sick, this man turns into the ultimate drama queen. I feel like he just wants people to care about him, though? And exaggerating his condition might be the only way to achieve that?
It doesn't take long for you to realize it's not as bad as he says it is. But he's still pretty sick, so nothing about how you take care of him really changes. Just ignore him when he claims to be dying.
Do something wrong and he's like "Do you want me to die? So rude, Reader-chan~!" in his messed-up, scratchy and seemingly painful voice.
Oh my god he will not stay in bed. He literally climbs all over you like a child. Sleeps anywhere but where he's supposed to. Hides in his closet. You're really strong for agreeing to take care of this gremlin and making it this far, you know that?
Delirious Kokichi is even more of a menace but he's twice as tired so it doesn't last too long.
So, say he does get worse. Would his playful façade start to slip, or would delirium make it 10x as strong?
Gonta Gokuhara
(Short since I'm not too familiar with Gonta as a person + I haven't played his FTE)
Everything is fine until he suddendy latches an arm around his stomach and doubles over, teeth clenched and eyes shut tight. You rush to his side and ask him what's wrong.
He tells you it wouldn't be gentlemanly to ask for help, you argue that it would be even less gentlemanly to puke on the floor. He lets you walk him to the bathroom.
He slep,, he sleps so cute,, somehow he manages to look small cuz he is curled up in a little blanket burrito and sleping
Korekiyo Shinguji
(Again, short, sorry D:)
I'm getting gothic whump vibes from him
HE is getting gothic whump vibes too
I think he reads whump stuff when he's not studying anthropology
Lights candles instead of the lamp on his nightstand, his sheets are all white, keeps his windows open, yeah the whole deal. Your Kiyo values aesthetic and that is VALID.
Homies I apologize but I don't know shit about Ryoma and Rantaro. Ever since I started this post two weeks ago I've been stuck on them. Feel free to reblog with HCs for them!! Anyways, super duper sorry for the wait, Anon! I really hope it was worth it D:

5, 19, 23 for the salty ask!
Thanks for the asks! 💕
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
Not that I can recall. I don't let fandom have power over me out of pure spite. I force myself take a step back or take a break if something works me up a lot. I've had times where I've irrationally resented ships because of their popularity and my overexposure to them, I'll admit (you can guess which ones). I don't feel that way about those ships anymore though; for me, frustration typically turns into apathy anyway. I've also come to realize pretty much all popular ships—yes, even my beloved Kyman—have shippers that might make all its shippers look bad. It's just apart of the fandom experience.
19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?
Reminder that I haven't been in this fandom for a long time (only around a year now), so perhaps there's long-going issues I'm less aware of. For one, this fandom has some issues that definitely suck, but aren't exclusive to it. Like the beloathed (but now expected) shipping discourse and general harassment/hate.
I'm sure there's worse issues, but what I do loathe (and made a joke post about that got way more notes than I thought it would) is superiority complexes in this fandom. Not as in having your own preferences, but genuinely thinking you're better than others for them. I find it laughable. Yeah its fun to take this show a little seriously sometimes, I fucking love seeing people analyze its characters to death, but when you're constantly trying to argue about ships and characters? For South Park? The show that barely itself seriously and most people hate the fandom of anyway?
Tumblr media
I try not to be hypocritical, I've had to remind myself more than once what show I'm watching. Its okay if any of you reading this struggle with it, I get it lol. Every once in a while something stupid irks me and I have to force myself to let it go. It's just how it is, I can't bring myself to spend much time worrying about what other people like. If something really does piss me off (and trust me I have things that do) I either go rant to my best friend, blacklist the fuck out of it, or both. I hope this has been coherent, I'm tired.
23. Unpopular character you love?
Ooh, good question! Honestly the first character that popped into mind is Kip Drordy...you know, the kid from "You Have 0 Friends" because I remember really liking him when I watched the episode (...and kind of relating to him because I was a huge loser kid in school who would honestly act the exact same way if Kyle befriended me on Facebook). I'm pretty sure there's barely any fan content of him despite that being one of the most popular episodes of the show, which is odd. I drew him with Karen a while back, inspired by a moment in "Pajama Day" during Cartman's dream where they were seen talking. Funnily enough, I thought about them being friends before I noticed that moment. I put the drawing under the cut because its from a while back and don't care for it now.
(Edit: It removes the keep reading so nevermind, everyone has to see my trashy drawing of these two)

It makes sense, I'm not a big fan of this format either
I tried looking for your comments about Invincible and didn't find much, but I wanted to know, what you thought of Invincible? Which characters did you like the most? What did you think of the couples? About the story and how it was developed? The animation itself, this kind of thing
Yeah, like honestly, if I wanted this format I would've stuck to cable lol.
Thanks for looking, but yeah, I didn't really get many Invincible asks, and I only really posted about how the fandom (typically) irrationally hated Amber
So, my thoughts on Invincible as a show, was I liked the idea, I think that they handled the concept of an "invincible" not so hero super being far better than The Boys. Like even though Omni Man mollywhops the FUCK out of his son, I believe it when he finally is like...fuck. I can't do this, this is my son. And leaves. And because we'd only seen him operating in secret, and his choices made sense, he wasn't just some insane white supremacists man baby with powers, I was like man this is evil, but I'd like to see where you're going with this, and the reveal didn't disappoint. The Boys just...doesn't seem to have a coherent point, and the points they do make have me like
Tumblr media
I think there were some weird threads that, while I could see how they were weaving the story, I didn't really understand the point of, like the robot, and trying to get a physical body etc. I didn't care for Eve's storyline at all, and cared even less for her single episode or whatever. I personally find when people who don't experience violent isms are naturally, quite bad at writing them, especially for animation. I think I felt like, after a second watch, there was some meandering, and I wanted a really tight, really focused and executed season, more Arcane, less Avengers the animated series, as far as story execution. Everything in Arcane had a clear purpose, and with Invincible, quite a bit felt gratuitous and like it deserved cutting. When I learned about how awful the production was, it made more sense though lol.
I liked the animation, but, and I've said this before and people get their panties all knotted up over it, American animation excels at the action sequences. Big fights, big explosions, they got the fx and animation in the bag. Smaller acting moments filled with emotion, not so much. And that sucks, because anime really fulfills that for me. I know I can watch an anime that has sick action animation and incredible character animation, and I wish North American animation placed more emphasis on the latter, but when everything is rigged to hell, and there's very little hand drawn animation in tv anymore because of the deadlines, I see how that gets lost. But to emphasize my point:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really need more Black character designers on these productions and as ADs, because I HATED Amber's character design. Like, I don't know who this is, but it's not a Black person.
Tumblr media
While there's a conversation to be had about the same tired ass hairstyles for Black men and boys in animation, I still can look at this and be like, yes, this is a Black person.
Tumblr media
Inb4 someone cries about it being 3D, there's no reason to not get the same fidelity out of 2D animation, not when Static Shock and Justice League have laid groundwork for those clear shorthands.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but it makes sense they'd suck at drawing BW because they want the girls to be simultaneously eurocentrically attractive, while also being shit at designing Black people.
I didn't care for any of the couples. I wasn't particularly interested in a single thing Eve did, or the robot not robot guy falling for the lady who keeps getting younger, and I cared even less for Amber and Mark, but again, I think it's because there was a development to the relationships that I was looking for, and the show is so focused on all this action and Omni-man, there wasn't much room for the right development to those relationships, and by extension, the characters, for me to care about how they went. I think the only relationship I marginally cared about was Omni man and Mark's mom and that's because they did just enough, playing them like this lusty couple, and then he calls her a pet. I was like...oh damn, lol. We're going there. Embarrassing. I think if we cut out a lot of the chaff with the excessive action scenes and really built the story with as many emotional stakes are there were physical ones, it could've really been a powerhouse of a show, but instead I think it ends up being niche because it's like a well animated show without too much substance. I hope for more season 2, but I know how animation productions work, and that's an empty wish lol, but I'm still gonna watch it because I like watching animated stuff.

Justice in the dark, ep 6:
I'm a bit tired so not much thoughts coherent. But possibly my favorite episode so far. I love this case, it's the one I most remember reading, I love its execution on the show so far
The scenes did so good showing how Luo Wenzhou was the one paying attention to Fei Du from the start. How Tao Ran did because Luo told him to. Fei Du saw Tao Ran as the one doting on him when it was Luo. How Luo still orders him around, handles him like a junior, dotes on him (Luos Ill go help Fei myself while Tao Ran looks at him knowingly when Luo goes downstairs), cares about if he's okay, cares that Fei Du lashes out so he has methods of reigning Fei back in. When Fei tries to leave a hard conversation he'll make up an excuse to say Fei du can't leave, when Fei Du says "I'll hire killers" Luo treats it like a kid saying "I'll run away!" Or "I'm going to my room!" And just rolls with it without lashing out in return which is what Fei wants (so fei can run away from the hard honest conversation). That bit where Luo says Fei, if you just didn't fight me, then I could - and it's left hanging. And fei asks then you'd do what? And in the end is the answer the conclusion of their story, them coming together as equal lovers instead of this enemies-who-care-intensely about each other holding pattern? No wonder Luo can't answer, he was talking from the heart and probably didn't know where the words were leading until they came out. Then like Fei, he shuts down the conversation by lashing out (scolding Fei) and going to call Fei a cab. (It's no wonder Fei Du learned to run from hard conversations he doesn't want to do from Luo and copies him now lol - its like oh man bear with me but when people say you date people like yr parents, or like ur friends, except you are actually dating the person who knows you as well as those people and Fei du in effect is attached to a man who's Just Like Himself. Both of these fools are going to end up with crushes on each other emotionally just like themselves, because Fei Du learned from Luo so much of his behavior and Luo adapted so much of his own behavior to match Fei over the years. It's like how married couples are so similar. But they already did the "become more similar over the years" BEFORE dating lol. No wonder they're like oil and water, it can be hard to get along with someone who's flaws and shorter fuses match yours so often.
I am so surprised (but in a happy way) how clearly Fei Dus crush on Tao Ran is in the explicit plot. It's pretty much like the book, I didn't expect that level shown. I loved him pulling the covers over Tao Ran, speaking on behalf of Tao Ran to the girl he likes as if giving his crush away to her, hinting to Tao to ask her to dinner, leaving that note for Tao when he woke up (and Luo also leaving a note and a full prepped fridge - honestly they both act like Tao Rans temp boyfriends who are firmly told "no I'm not dating you bro I only love you platonically" but both of them are like "well ill just keep treating you like my boyfriend until you're Actually taken"... which thinking about it now, how wild is it that Fei Du also copies Luo Wenzhou with the crush on Tao Ran? With doting on Tao Ran, leaving him notes the same way, happy for Tao with a new crush mirroring Luos reaction, again Fei and Luo partly fight so much because Fei Du in many respects turned out similar to Luo and its a point of conflict at times. And a point of warmth, as Fei Du also developed that closeness to Tao (and lmao a crush on the same man as Luos crush), fei also made Tao Ran into his family like Luo sees Tao Ran as family. That's a positive point to it. Anyway in short: I really appreciate Fei Du reads as obviously into men, specifically Tao Ran, and it's cute. It hurts my heart as a Tao Ran number 1 fan. I'm again surprised it's just overtly there as much as it is.
The use of Tao Ran in the love Triangle reminds Me a TON of the use of Zhu Hong in the love "triangle" in Guardian. A way to make it very obvious story telling wise that the 2 romantic interests like each other, because they Pick each other over the third party (zhu Hong in guardian is rejected by Zhao yunlan for Shen Wei... and she wouldn't think she's rejected FOR another person being picked if it wasnt a romantic rival, Tao Rans scenes make it Blatantly Clear Tao ran thinks Luo is picking Fei Du instead of Tao over and over recently even going so far as calling out Luos increasing fondness and closeness, Tao rans scenes make it clear Fei Du likes men but Taos not an option for Fei what with Tao having a girlfriend and turning him down over and over... but there's 1 lead in this shoe Besides Tao with no gf who's close to Fei Du o3o). I really love Tao anyway (yall know this I'm a simp), but I also really like that a lot of his scenes feel unchanged in level of overtness, which really helps make Fei du and Luos dance toward romantic entanglement more obvious. They're not there yet of course, but they weren't at this point in the book either.
I appreciate the actors, just everything, deeply at REALLY well depicting the "enemies to lovers" aspect of fei du/Luo wenzhou. I loved all the scenes at Tao Rans apartment. And they really hammer home how its true both that: Luo wenzhou has cared deeply for Fei Du since they met and they've grown emotionally close because of that relationship (to the point Fei Du is his most emotionally open and vulnerable only when he talks to Luo Wenzhou alone - privately together Fei Du feels safest and most vulnerable and open), but at the same time they are still at each other's throats and Cannot stop conflicting with each other (partly exactly Because Fei Du feels so vulnerable and emotionally close to Luo Wenzhou he Feels so afraid that he has to lash out), and Luo Wenzhou can't just let go and let fei du leave... the way Tao ran at the start could've let Fei Du leave their lives. Luo HAS to stay in Fei Dus life, he cares too much to let him isolate and go self destruct, so then Luo LASHES OUT TOO to try and Keep Fei Du somewhat abated and so they just cannot stop fighting. That conflicting aspect of their relationship at the start is so important. And it's complicated. It's full of love and caring about each other already, and that's why it's so frightening and so hard to maintain and like Luo says in the kitchen. If Fei Du could just stop fighting him, then he could-- he could what is the question. Be closer. Close the gap they both maintain by fighting nonstop. Move past their lashing out and be fully vulnerable and open to each other without Stopping themselves or each other when it gets too intimate and their relationship becomes irrevocably changed. This whole relationship dynamic is why I love the couple so much, and I'm beyond grateful it's being handled so well and playing out so lovely on screen.
So many shots, decisions, power play visuals on screen in Tao Rans apartment scenes i loved it.
Interesting to me that Luo Wenzhou being gay is downplayed a lot more than in book. I mean yeah I expected it. And he's not flamboyant like wen kexing is so if you cut out him making passes at Tao Ran its not super obvious. I would imagine maybe also him being a lead cop representing Cops and government may also be a factor in downplaying it who knows. Another reason I liked this ep is that Luos crush on Tao is finally OBVIOUS. At least, more obvious than before. He says he feels complicated about Tao Ran having a girl. He still dotes on Tao like a husband, making him food and doing his dishes and prepping his meals for the week and writing him a note and taking care of their "coparented" Fei Du when Tao Ran is too drunk and asleep to be calling a cab for Fei, he's standing just as awkward as Fei Du when at the bottom of the building they all run into Tao Rans crush and Fei pulls Luo off to the side with him and they BOTH observe as little copies of each other coping wirh Tao ran liking someone who's not them and being happy for him but also a little internally crushed they've got to stop hoping he'll ever choose them. (It is again, Beyond funny to me Fei Du grew up picking up SO much from Luo he even ended up crushing on the same man to the point they fucking mirror each other around Tao Ran romantically lol. They both give him stuff, moon after him and know they shouldn't, write him notes and stick around to take care of him when the party's over and he's fallen asleep). Anyway back to the point. Luo finally got some decent scenes to indicate a bit more clearly, hey, yeah, Luo does like men. Particularly Tao ran. And if he doesn't like men??? If somehow you interpreted it that way? Then at minimum notice he acts like Tao Rans wife and that's a Hella close personal relationship. Which he will be later developing with Fei (and already sort of has although Luo doesn't want to recognize it consciously yet... though I think he already has. Now that Fei Dus an adult and a peer to him in terms of actual intelligence, capability, trust, I think Luo often hides/camouflages his developing feelings as "I'm parenting you because someone has to!" Fei is an adult same as Tao ran. Fei is an equal, and he can take care of a drunk Tao Ran and pay Tao Rans bills and keep a little girl safe he babysits while going out on an errand. He is not a child who needs someone ordering him, controlling him, making sure he's functional and not hurt. Luo knows Fei Du can decide to upset his tummy drinking coffee after wine. He knows rich ass Fei can call his own cab. He knows Fei can get his own food, carry his own boxed gift, etc. But he STILL does everything for Fei he possibly can. Because he cares, and it's shifted into caring about fei like he cares about Tao ran. A romantic adjacent kind of care, a desire to dote on and spoil him not because Fei needs it but because he just wants to give it to Fei. And I think Luo hides behind the excuse of acting like it's motivated by caretaking. And to a degree it is, it definitely used to be. But when forced to face if the feeling is shifting he doesn't want to. Tao Ran DEFINITELY wants to bring it up. And I think Luos realizing it's growing a life of its own and he's going to have to be honest with himself some time soon. I'm not sure if Fei Du notices at all yet though, or if he sees it as Luo just being controlling and overbearing even though Fei Du should no longer be under anyone's supervision. (Which just fuels fei seeing it as them constantly at odds even more).
Just a Lot of fascinating parallels to be seen between the whole trio of Tao Ran, Fei Du, and Luo Wenzhou and the shows depicting it well.
The part about the dad of the missing girl killing someone. And fei saying you're afraid I'll kill someone too. Luo not taking the bait. God I love that scene. I love when fei du does shit like that.
I barely mentioned the case at all but again this is one of my fave cases from the novel, I loved the flashbacks to their old mentor dying (and again hammering how Tao Ran is so PRESENT throughout the story as a connection to Luo and the shared experiences with him), the mentor meeting the father and it feeling like a generational wound still unhealed (very Beyond Evil), I just really loved those parts and when I read the novel never ever thought I'd get to see them.

It's such a problem that there isn't any recourse in place for the teams or the drivers to not appeal specific decisions the stewards made but protest the way the FIA (or even F1 in some situations) handle things in a more general sense when they fuck up.
When things like the issue with the tractor happen where all the drivers/teams or most of them agree that there's a problem with the way things are run (also think back on Saudi Arabia for example), there should be some procedure in place that allows them to confront the FIA about it in all transparency and force them to justify decisions, publicly recognize their mistakes if need be and apologise, and go back on bad decisions that were taken, again if need be. I mean the drivers should have a say in certain things, especially when it has to do with their own safety.
I know there's drivers meetings and the GPDA but it doesn't seem to be changing anything because they don't have any authority.
Maybe there could be some sort of protocol, like the majority of the drivers or teams must agree on what was wrong and what would've been right or something like that (although it might just add to the politics on the teams side especially with B teams etc.) for them to be able to confront the FIA about it so it's not abused but like. There should be something there.
I just don't find it right that the FIA holds so much power and rules over everything and there's nothing in place to hold them accountable
Not even for somewhat petty things like racing penalties but for big things like safety, coherence, transparency, ...
Idk if I'm making any sense I'm so tired lol

For the writer asks (there were so many good ones! I had to limit myself!!): 💫 🌈 💕 🕯️
I don't...interact much because I am very shy, but :points at eyes, points at you:. You are a delight and I need you to know that I appreciate you immensely. Whenever I see your name pop up around this tumblr, it always encourages me. :)
The questions tho!
💫what is your favorite kind of comment/feedback?
Honestly, I'm delighted by every kind of comment so I have...less of 'favorites' and more of 'kinds that stick out in my memory'? And those kinds are 1) 'reread' comments that state or imply that they're leaving this on their second+ time back (!!!), 2) the 'I am commenting on every chapter because I am very enthusiastic' comments that I am always so shy about replying to, and the 3) rambles. I REALLY adore rambles, because sometimes they're not very coherent, which I find just...really delightful and charming. They're just full of stuff that someone liked and give me a little glimpse into the person who left it.
🌈is there a fic that you worked *really fucking hard on* that no one would ever know? maybe a scene/theme you struggled with?
Oh, yes! The entire fic of Our Corners Start To Curving 'Til We Shine. It's set in the John Wick universe, but after the second movie and before the third, so it's a little older and I'm sure no longer canon compliant. It's all OCs since it was for a worldbuilding challenge and it's one of my shortest fics, too, so you wouldn't think it would be anything special, but it was a deliberate exercise in writing something short, sharp, and concise that was also a complete and finished story. At the time, those traits made the writing style an active departure from my regular style (...in 2018, wow. It feels like much longer ago.). I was stepping out of my comfort zone on purpose, and I'm deeply pleased about how it came out. Finishing it and polishing it up affected my writing style in a lot of ways, tbh, and made me a better writer in general. My fics before it are in some ways denser and more sprawling and my fics after it are planned tighter and with an eye toward using a limited page more effectively.
💞what’s the most important part of a story for you? the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, the technical stuff (grammar etc), the figurative language
I think this is the double heart one that you mean! The most important bit, for me, is the interactions between characters. So a little bit of character, a little bit of plot, a little bit of dialogue, but most specifically all of it revolving around how characters respond and react to one another, because that's where I find the most crunch to explore when I write. There's a...it's sort of a vibrating tension between the lines/characters when I get it right, and that's something that I specifically chase whenever I'm setting words down on the page. When the note is hit just right, I can feel it like a shiver somewhere in the vicinity of my emotions, and I'm always hoping that it comes through even just a little to a reader.
🕯️how do you think engaging with each other through tumblr, twitter, comments, kudos, creates healthy fandom experiences? How do you deal with that if you’re not a social person/experience social anxiety?
(ETA: oh shit there are two candles? If you were thinking the other one, ping me and I'll answer that instead? Ahha.) Oh! This is such an interesting question (if a bit leading, lol, I hadn't noticed that before trying to answer it). I'm bad at interaction and engagement because I'm definitely in the 'shy' and 'tired' categories, but it's... I think interaction is a big part of what makes fic and fanart and other fandom stuff into play. I share things I'm enthusiastic about. I take them apart and put them together and tell stories about them and then save the results for later. I CAN do it on my own, and I honestly write more because I can't get ideas out of my head than I do because I need interaction about them, but it's a deliberate choice for me to make the Stuff I'm Getting Out Of My Head into something for the community. Because I want to participate in the sandbox everyone else is playing in, because that's where the people are, and I like people. Plus, half the fun is yes-anding, or finding someone with a wildly different interpretation that you think you could make something out of, or getting a new angle off of something you would never have thought of otherwise because of your particular lived experience vs their particular lived experience. Without interacting, you get YOU out of it, but you don't get anyone else, and I find a great deal of joy in the fact that other people are producing NEW stuff about a thing I love. So. The thing with me is that I'm super reserved, and the 'shy and tired' means I'm more likely to go 'ah, I simply cannot just now' and make a mental note to respond at some later date (andthenIdidn't_johnmulaney.gif). So I don't...honestly interact much as a creator. I interact way, way more as an audience member. Which, from the PoV of a creator, I think is pretty dang valuable, yanno? But I do what I can in a more...hrm. So, I reblog things I like, I comment when I have the bandwidth, and I don't stress about how I as an individual am somehow be responsible for aggregate trends in not commenting or something. All this is play: I join the game when I can and don't sweat when I can't. (I also have a vague tangent about how the ability to be seen and found by literally the whole world instead of a small niche subcommunity has made everything just...so much different, but I think that's for another time. :))
Thank you so much for the ask, @opalynne!
