Sorry I never gave a proper update on tumblr——

here’s some brainstorming doodles from Keo and me on the white board and some examples Keo made in my notebook. I won’t forget it, one of my harshest note was “NEVER draw Kenny in 3/4!! Trey hates that!” 🤣 The story leads stressed that Trey is very particular with acting decisions and poses, most of which don’t translate into the animation. It’s for him at the editing stage, to “make his voice sing”. Getting into Trey’s head, funnily enough, requires FEELING. Feeling what he’s going for in terms of delivery, to learn what not to take literally in his script (when trey says “kathleen kennedy is like terminator” it’s not what you initially think it means), what emotion or gesture to put in to elevate a joke, to get the message through. It’s so fascinating!

In short, I didn’t make the cut. I was “too fresh”, and needed more experience with the technical aspect of storyboarding…. but I was complimented by Keo for my intuition, something that can’t be taught. I was over the moon when I was told I got the style of the show, whereas other trainees with 10+ experience couldn’t. Some of them tested but don’t even watch the show!! That’s crazy, but I guess that’s to be expected. My knowledge of the show and deep love for the characters got me this far, but I need to work on my actual story boarding skills (keo said my struggles are in composition and scaling) to stay!! 💪🏼 I’m taking this… as a not yet, not a no. I’m already on their radar, in their database, I’m incredibly lucky I got to make my THIRD connection in the studio, I just need to work on myself until I can arrive. I’m so grateful for all the support from friends family and industry moots to get me this far, it’s only the beginning of the year but I don’t think anything could top what happened to me this March!!!!!

Ngl it's been kinda nice being somewhat offline. This blog is pretty much the only social media I use right now besides Pinterest. I never realized how much social media drained me until I've started using it drastically less.

I feel bad for whining about it like I want to love this game sooooo bad. I want to be excited about it. But I'm seriously bummed. I expected very little and I'm still disappointed

It looks like Snow Day is a bust, at least critically (I don’t know how sales are, but I’m assuming not great), and I can only imagine how Matt and Trey are feeling right now. I wonder if this will energize them to kick ass going forward, or has them feeling demoralized and like they don’t need this crap at this point in their lives and career. I think the worst part is how brutal the comments from fans have been, which is something that M&T probably have never experienced, and they probably assumed that the fans would always have their back. The seasons and specials have been lackluster lately, but I wonder how much of that was spreading themselves thin with the game and Casa Bonita. I just hope that this inspires them to do better, rather than wanting to call it quits. I’m sure that their legacy is extremely important to them.

Yes, it's such a shame for them to be facing this kind of backlash after the previous two games being such critical successes. I've seen some positive comments, but it seems like even a lot of their biggest fans are pretty disappointed.

I'm really confused about a lot of the choices they made with this game. From the get-go it seemed like a lot of fans were confused and in disbelief too, about whether this was really going to be their next big game. I can't help but wonder if something went astray somewhere along the way, of if this is exactly what they set off to do, and it turned out exactly how they planned (minus the reviews). The lack of promotion - and finally the only promotion being a couple of last-minute social media videos - indicates that they might not have been super proud and optimistic about the game.

I'm sure they will overcome this together and learn from it. They don't really have the option of calling it quits, since they're contracted to make 4 more seasons of South Park (or until 2027) and 8 more made-to-stream specials!

But it will be interesting to see whether this will be the last South Park game or not.

Hey, have you played Snow Day, or are you going to? What do you think about it?

in short: 5/10 game. 6/10 if you’re with friends— and honestly, it’s a game MEANT to be played with friends, solo brings out the tedious, repetitive experience that’s Snow Day.

it’s an okay game, some concepts are nice but for the most part there’s not much home to write home abt if you’re not a fan of south park. And even then…. I hesitate to recommend the game to sp fans. I’d advise to wait until it goes on sale (at an already cheap 30$).

The story takes place within a day so it’s short, to the point, and wraps up the way an episode would. Characters I didn’t expect to come back surprised me, but the story around them and the mechanics tied to them muddied the story for me halfway through (if you play it, you’ll know what i mean haha). I’m noticing a pattern in sp games and kinda hope they stop at snow day. The town of South Park is Turned By A Substance, the boys have to stop it. Last minute betrayal. This is the third game now…. I hope the next game they realize this and do something different…..

I’m not a fan of the art direction for the game, I don’t know if the smooth gummy-like textures work for south park. Some models don’t appear polished, there’s a lot of clipping either through clothes or in the models themselves 😬 I hope those get patched. for certain animation, bones are broken (crawling/ low health animation always ticks me off bc of it) and it stretches the skin mesh thin…. stuff that shouldn’t be happening in a launched game 🥲 But sometimes the models n anim look rly cute.

From what I've heard so far I'll probably just wait until Snow Day goes on sale to buy it. That's only if I decide it's a game I'd get some enjoyment out of (if it has even a couple good moments with the characters I probably will).
