Ok firstly, I stg this isn't a shitpost.
I'm a cis woman, butch as fuck, but still very much cis. I mean I've had issues with internalized misogyny and body dysmorphia, but never dysphoria (I think)
I really want to yodel. (This isn't a shitpost) But online, people have told me (mostly via a sideways, the music youtuber, video) that only people with high testosterone (aka men) can yodel. This is upsetting to me, as I've wanted to learn how for a while. (Again I know this is stupid as fuck but it isn't a joke or a shitpost)
Would it be a stupid decision for me to (either temporarily or what have you) try HRT or something similar in order to increase the testosterone in my body so that I can yodel? Or would I be potentially hurting myself?
I have no qualms with looking/sounding like a man, btw.
I know this sounds weird and extreme but it's something that's really bothered me for about a year now and I need some advice from people who understand what transgenderism actually is. If I were to ask the mogai crowd, they'd tell me to do it anyway bc they don't believe in gender. I figured you could help me with some advice or point me in the direction of someone who could give me some. (Please no terfs, radfems, or transphobes)
Sorry again, this is so weird to talk about, and I don't know who to go to lol
Hi! First of all, please don’t put down your interests!!! Yodelling is hella cool. And I’m pretty sure I’ve heard women do it.
I just searched it up, here’s a video of a little girl yodelling, and killing it!
Here’s Jewel,
a 12 year old girl,
A mom annoying her kid (the ending’s adorable omg),
Three women,
And I’m sure there’s much more out there! I just searched up “women yodelling” and these were fun to listen to!
Point is, clearly women are able to yodel. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were different techniques for men and women, since men and women have different voices. Maybe try specifically looking for female yodelling techniques, and if you’re looking for coaches—people who are either women themselves or know how to teach women. Right now you might be looking at sources made for/by males, which would make the techniques not applicable to females. In the same way techniques for females wouldn’t be applicable to males.
As for going on testosterone, I would say it’s not a good idea. Because it wouldn’t just be making you sound like a man, and being butch and looking like a man vs being on testosterone which makes you look like a man are very different things. One is being gnc and is about presentation, the other is taking hormones that physically change your body.
You have to keep in mind that testosterone is going to cause bottom growth, male pattern baldness, and facial hair (probably more, these are off the top of my head). I’ve heard trans men say that they experienced acne and increased sweating when they went on T, as well as oilier and rougher skin. I’m not sure of the effects on breasts, I think they may decrease in size? Either way, these side effects aren’t going to be taken well by a cis woman. It’s why detransitioners describe actually giving themselves gender dysphoria, because they experience physical changes that their brain knows shouldn’t be happening. And many of the changes aren’t temporary, which leaves long lasting effects on their mental health.
I would strongly recommend against going on T for something like this. Especially because from what it looks like, women can absolutely yodel without going on testosterone.
I’ll tag @kiss-the-cis and @myragewillendworlds because they have good sources on dysphoria and such, and might be able to give better information than I can if they wish. And you can also look through the sources on their blogs if you want to learn more!
And good luck with yodelling! it seems like a really cool thing to learn! 😄💕

a twilight tag game, you say?
pick 5-10 characters and write your take on the canon version of them vs. fanon version of them. fanon doesn’t have to be what is generally accepted in the fandom, it can be your own idea of what you think a character is like. then tag the same number of people as characters you pick, if you can.
I was tagged by @teamjacobthot -- thank you so much! I’m excited to get into this :)
EMBRY
(obviously because i adore him with my whole soul)
Canon:
chill aka probably just shy let’s be real here
likes to bet on things?
seems to have the most common sense
Fanon:
HERE WE GO, EVERYBODY *cracks knuckles*
def the smartest one out of him, jake and quil.
an observer. definitely a people watcher. he reads the VIBEZ
very, super, ultra, mega sarcastic. almost cynical. I feel like he’s probably a realist in a lot of situations rather than either an optimist or a pessimist. probably leans a little more towards pessimism though
refuses to learn about his dad (though, I personally believe it’s Joshua Uley, but that’s a long headcanon for another day unless someone specifically wants to know my thoughts on it more haha)
a super romantic without knowing he’s a romantic?
real tight with his mom-- they’ve only ever had each other since old daddio has been out of the picture the entire time and she’s probably never really dated (once again, i have more thoughts on that too but you know, i digress)
also i SUPER headcanon that he almost ALWAYS only refers to her as, “Ma,” unless it is a serious situation in which he uses ‘mother’ but i do NOT feel like he is a ‘mom’ person. at least for his own mother.
honestly these are just all my own headcanon i have no idea what people think about him :S
for me, i think him and Jacob are closer than Quil is to either of them. In my mind, when embry’s mom Tiffany first got to town, she became really good friends with Sarah Black and thus, Jacob and Embry have kind of been friends since birth, quil only coming in a little later maybe and just not having the same kind of friendship that embry and jake have
I think him and Leah secretly get each other. Like they don’t talk much or anything, but Embry never makes comments to or about her and doesn’t participate in the guys being absolute jerks to her.
also, he just guzzles that respect women juice. like, he was raised solely by his mother so like... he was taught to respect women and also i think this makes him more empathetic to other people which is why he wouldn’t be mean to leah or say mean things about her because he’d understand to a level and might even see pieces of his own mother in her because they both were screwed over by men and he never EVER wants to be that to anybody ever
probably plays guitar but NEVER shows anybody
usually the but of a joke between jake and quil.
also the decider in arguments between jake and quil
i have a zillion more but i’ll quit while i’m ahead
also
is a slut for muffins
QUIL ATEARA V
Canon:
he thinks he’s a ladies man (thinks)
more outgoing?
likes hanging out with friends
took his cousin to prom
Fanon:
so, so, so funny as in a total dork with a lot of unearned confidence
book smart but NOT street smart
prefers name brand foods over generic because it just ‘has that extra something something’ and also, class
loves to debate with jacob. he always ends up taking it somehow more seriously than jacob does.
i actually do not know why nobody talks about quil i feel like he’s super underrated and actually hilarious.
@teamjacobthot‘s one of this tag game mentioned he was a soundcloud rapper and i think i DIED so imma also go with that and second you there
very particular about how things are done
a lover of the puns
toy story is his favorite childhood film, and he announces it as so.
LEAH CLEARWATER
Canon:
angry and bitter
thinks nothing more than of sam
hates vampires
sassy
Fanon:
i absolutely LOVE practically every fanon i’ve ever seen of leah in the fandom like...ever. they are all so amazing and i actually just want tons and tons of fanfictions about all of them
Ngl, i really am a big AngelaxLeah fan
BUT
I PERSONALLY hc that leah gets fed up with being in the pack and she feels like there’s really nothing there for her. She ends up leaving la puzb to go off and explore the world-- she wants to see it and experience more than just the memories and the life that surrounds her in la push. she travels all over and often does so in wolf form when she can. I HC she imprints there-- on a real nice super cool lady from some other country. (this is another thing i could go on for days about, i will write a fanfic about it one day. ONE DAY i shall PREVAIL!)
Honestly, i really do like Leah as she was canon. I think that it was the way everybody acted around her that i would change and i feel like the fandom as a whole agrees on that
like yeah, Leah is a badass bitch with a great sense of humor. she’s witty and sarcastic and smart and wise and i just love her to pieces. everyone else just needs to wise up and be nicer
JACOB
Canon:
super supportive and kind and loving and understanding and THEN smeyer swooped in and DESTROYED MY BOY.
like, don’t even get me STARTED on my feelings about what she did to her OWN CHARACTER
i mean really
smeyer straight up didn’t know what to do with him so she did... all of THAT. it makes me want to wheep.
Fanon:
the fanons out there on Jacob are just... they are SO WONDERFUL and give me SO MUCH JOY
i’ve heard him being a mechanic obviously, i’ve heard about the HILARIOUS details of his friendship with like, alice and rosalie and emmett like... that shit is so funny i live for it
i could read jacob fanons all day
i guess personally, i just love to bits. he’s super patient. very funny but also is really understanding and can (and loves) to get into deep discussions about stuff and listen to other people’s passions and share his own.
purposefully pushes quil’s buttons so he can get a rise out of him because he LOVES their dumb bickering and enjoys a good debate
is also almost always right in those debates
quil probably won like... twice in all of history and it was based on some kind of weird trivia fact he learned in a biology class or something lol
i bet that when the time came he had kids (not with you-know-who obviously cause just...no), he’d be SUCH a great dad and he’d be SUPER hands-on with them, like always taking them places and teaching them how to do various stuff
and if one of his kids was really into something he didn’t know how to do, you KNOW his ass is up on youtube all night long learning how to do it so he can spend THAT MUCH MORE TIME with his kids
oh he’s just so sweet love him to pieces
RENESMESS
...I had to do this but i have a good reason:
Canon:
exists
Fanon:
absolutely does NOT exist
who?
the only ONLY acknowledgement i will give her is i read a fanon somewhere about how she HATES her name. like she is downright royally not okay with it and when she gets older and has to go to school for eternity with her family (weird. seriously so weird but i’m pushing through this) she decides to announce that she is only going by this other name (personally i feel like it’s Carlie because it’s still her middle name and jfd;akfsd but also because it’s A NORMAL NAME) and so she is never called renesmee again because that is straight up a monster name and even her nickname is a monster so like, ugh.
also, i REFUSE to believe that Jacob imprinted on her, okay? if she has to exist, he did NOT imprint on her and they can be buds or something but just... no. (i have so many issues with imprinting guys, i should just sit down and write a long post about it but the ENERGY and it isn’t like it’s not all things that have been said before. it’s more what I’d fix about it so it could still exist but not be a legit code word for grooming and an excuse for blatant p*d* grossness because that’s all it is and i HATE THAT)
so I don’t talk to anyone in the fandom really because i don’t really know how to start conversations like... at all. I really WANT to talk to people but I’m a chicken and i have a hard time, BUT, i really admire so many of the blogs on here and i LOVE so much of their content. Off the top of my head, i shall tag:
@chiefjacob @911esme @jacobblackredemptionblog @embrycallsmuffin @leahclearwaterdefensesquad AND anyone else who wishes to do this! it was so much fun! I say do it! and if you’ve already done it, i just tip my hat to you for being an awesome blog :)
seriously! tag me when you do it, i want to see your answers!!

Who’s coming to dinner? -- Galatians 1:13-17, 2:11-21 -- May 9, 2021 -- Sixth Sunday of Easter
On TV shows and dinner guests
I want to begin this morning with two illustrations that will help us place this challenging Scripture text within the larger Biblical story.
The first illustration involves how television storytelling has changed over the years. To name one example, Star Trek: The Original Series was very much a product of its time; each episode was a stand-alone story, the so-called, “planet of the week.” Every week, Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise would show up at a different planet and deal with whatever crisis they encountered. A big reason why the episodes were written in this way is because once an episode aired, there was no expectation that you would ever see it again. Long story arcs were impossible because if fans missed an episode because they went out for dinner, or there was a power outage, or their local network preempted the show, they would miss crucial details that would be necessary to understand later stories.
On-demand streaming services have completely changed this. Recent Star Trek series (and others, of course) now have intricately based story arcs that invite people to watch and re-watch and binge watch episodes to unpack the tight conceived story lines. On top of that, most episodes are analyzed and dissected on YouTube, allowing for further reflection on the clues and hints and “easter eggs.”
My reason for inviting you to think about this is because the Biblical story is a long, complex story arc, not a series of episodes. Today’s text from Galatians 1 and 2 is the backstory to the events we looked at last Sunday in the Acts 15/Jerusalem Conference text. In Acts 15:2, Luke says that “Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and debate” with the church leaders from Jerusalem; I said that what Luke really meant was they had a knock-down, drag out, fight. Well, Galatians 2 tells us about the fight!
But more than that, the issues that are relevant here tie all the way back to Genesis 12 and God’s call to Abram to be a blessing to all nations. God’s vision has always been to welcome all persons back into God’s family; it is a vision that will always push us beyond our comfort zones.
The second illustration that will help us understand this story concerns how complicated it can be to have guests for dinner. Never mind people’s schedules; just planning the meal itself can be a real challenge; some people are vegetarian, some are vegan, some have food allergies, others are gluten-free or lactose intolerant. “Who’s coming to dinner” is a complicated question!
Again thinking back to last Sunday’s sermon, I noted that book of Acts describes a simmering conflict over the nature of what it means to be a Christian. It turns out that what causes this conflict to boil over was a question about who’s coming to dinner! This is partly because in the early church, meals were a huge part of congregational life. Inviting someone to sit around your table—or accepting an invitation to sit around someone else’s table—meant that you had completely accepted them as part of your group. “Separate but equal” has always been a myth that the Gospel will not validate.
Acts 15 and Galatians 2 ultimately boil down to one question: “Am I willing to accept everyone who the Holy Spirit says is Christian?”
Our “stream on demand” story
Within the long Biblical “story arc” that teaches us that God’s ultimate purpose is to reconcile all things lies the fact that there will always be persons and powers who do not want that to happen. Every bit of God’s mission and ministry—the work we are called to share in—happens on contested real estate; ironically, moving toward God’s intended reconciliation will create conflict, which is exactly what happens in Acts 15 and Galatians 2. As much as we wish it weren’t the case, the conflict between Paul and Peter is exactly the kind of thing we should expect to happen.
But in this long story arc of reconciliation, Galatians 2 is the next episode in the story. To help understand this episode, we need to look back at previous episodes. We can look in any number of places throughout the Bible to see this, but consider these examples: In Genesis 12:1-3, we read:
The Lord says to Abram: “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
In John 3:16-17, Jesus says,
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Paul would later write to the Ephesians and say,
[Jesus] has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it.
One affirmation of this story arc comes from outside the New Testament. Gregory of Nyssa, a fourth century bishop, put it this way:
Taking up the enmity that had come between us and God on account of sins, slaying it in himself…and becoming what we are, [Jesus] joined the human to God again through himself.
This is the message that Paul has become convinced of, and the purpose of his life is to proclaim this gospel, something that came neither from “human origin” nor from a “human source.” Paul is on a mission from God to proclaim the gospel to all persons and to welcome them into one church under the grace of God.
Who’s coming to dinner?
But precisely because this message is contested from all directions, “who’s coming for dinner” is a complicated issue. Galatians 2 depicts an internal debate about this question. It was Peter’s missionary work that first took the Gospel to the Gentiles. Peter saw what the Holy Spirit was doing in these persons lives—that God’s work of reconciliation included them—and he apparently began eating meals with them, something that his Jewish upbringing would have forbidden.
This was a radical change, comparable to Black persons sitting down at the lunch counter at Woolworth’s in Greensboro, NC in 1960. It was a change in behavior that would cause massive social disruptions; prior to this, these things just weren’t done. But Peter made the change—until some of his colleagues came down from Jerusalem. Then Peter’s decision became costly, and he risked being criticized or even rejected by his peers. So he changed and stopped eating with Gentile Christians.
It’s the same issue that the Brethren had with extending the holy kiss to Black members in the 1800’s, isn’t it? Am I willing to accept that people who are a different class or different race from me are fully Christian, and are equally my sister or brother? For Peter, his answer was not found in his words, it was found in his unwillingness to share a meal with the Gentile Christians. He would not accept them as brother and sisters. Peter’s behavior even led Barnabas astray—Paul’s ministry partner who had shared in the first missionary journey and had seen many Gentiles come to faith in Jesus. Barnabas stopped eating with these brothers and sisters, too.
Reframing our perspective
Paul recognizes that the power of the Gospel story is in its ability to reframe our perspective. Paul is a man from his time; his prior understanding was that there were two categories of people: Jews and Gentile sinners, the classic “us vs. them” dichotomy of the world. Whenever we divide people into us vs. them, the persons in the other group—the “them”—are always in the wrong; they are always the problem.
But Paul has come to realize that this is the wrong way to view things. He understands that because of our sin, there is no “us.” From God’s perspective, we are all outsiders who need to be brought back into the family. One of the calls of the gospel is to welcome outsiders to our table and share a meal with them. But what is most astounding is that Jesus would welcome us to his table. We never want to get so concerned with the rules and guidelines for our own Love Feasts about who sits where and whether we should talk or sit in silence that we end up missing the fact that the table around which we gather is not our table, it is the Lord’s table. We are guests at God’s table!
One of the basic lessons that we learn in this world is that we are basically ok. We’re not perfect, we know we lots of room for improvement, but really all we need to do is add a few things or fix a few things, and then we’ll be fine. So we look for self-help books or maybe even a therapist—all of which can be fine and necessary and perfectly appropriate. But we so often spend our time tweaking things around the edges instead of addressing the fundamental problem in our lives: that we are alienated from God and need to be reconciled to God.
But even here, our efforts are flawed, because we so often want to reduce our relationship with Jesus to a prayer we pray “with every head bowed and every eye closed.” The Gospel invites us to so much more than that. We are invited to take our place alongside Abram
“who went, as the Lord told him” (Genesis 12:4).
We are invited to take our place alongside Paul, who left everything behind because he had encountered the consuming fire that is Jesus Christ. We’re called to be part of a community that is, quite frankly, a collection of mis-fits. But the reason they are mis-fits is because we don’t fit in this world, but we fit perfectly in the next.

Applying FMA’s Philosophy to Real Life
Here’s something a little different from what I usually post! For some reason I found myself thinking about this in the shower for almost an hour today, so I thought I’d write a post on it. (Also, keep in mind I wrote all of this spontaneously in one go.)
Now, here’s a little disclaimer: This is very subjective. There are a thousand different ways to personally interpret the philosophy of FMA, and even different ways to interpret what “the philosophy of FMA” even is- Is it the overall themes of the story? The actual real life alchemical/philosophical concepts mentioned in the series? The politics of the FMA world? Arakawa’s outlook on life and writing manga? Some sort of weird deep subtext about the Philosopher’s Stone or something?
It all depends on how you want to look at things, and everyone and their mom has a different interpretation. Every anime analysis blogger or YouTuber has done something on the philosophy of FMA. But I wanted to do something a little different: Take the philosophical concepts within the FMA universe, and find positive ways to interpret them that you can apply to your own life to better yourself.
Like I said, there’s a thousand different ways of interpreting these concepts. But I’m an optimist, or at least I try to be, so I tried to choose interpretations that are positive and motivating. I think Dante’s already got the whole “pessimistic existential despair” thing covered.
So, without further ado, here we go! This is an extremely long post, so it’s under a cut. Feel free to skim it and only look at the parts that interest you.
Concept: A lesson without pain is meaningless. Interpretation: What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Sometimes the most difficult challenges are the most rewarding.
Tumblr media
“Teachings that do not speak of pain have no meaning, because humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return.” -Chapter 1: The Two Alchemists “A lesson without pain is meaningless, because gaining anything worthwhile requires sacrifice. But if you can overcome that pain and achieve your goal, you can achieve a fullmetal heart, and that’s irreplaceable.” -Chapter 108: Journey’s End
It’s very easy to have a negative interpretation of this phrase, to take it to mean that suffering is necessary. As another favorite anime character of mine once said, “People never learn from their mistakes until they are hurt from them.” But like I said, I want this to be an uplifting list, so we’re going with a happier intepretation.
Everything is a learning experience. You can’t get a diamond without subjecting carbon to immense pressure and high temperatures, right? Even when things seem dark, if you can power through, you’ll come out with experience and strength that others might not have. And even if you can’t win, as any scientist knows, failure can show you where you went wrong and what you need to do to improve. There’s an old proverb in the go (east Asian strategy board game) community: “Lose your first 100 games as quickly as possible.”
This is what really got me started on this tangent, thinking about... believe it or not... Alchemical encoding methods. (Oh, on a side note, does anyone know the proper usage of “alchemical” vs. “alchemic”? Please let me know. It’s been driving me up the wall for years.) Think about it: Alchemists encode their work so they can’t be read by those who aren’t worthy, right? It’s fairly likely that there’s a standard system of alchemical encoding in the FMA world; We’ve heard Ed and Al mention real alchemy concepts like the green lion, or the sun and the moon as masculinity and femininity- things that wouldn’t make sense to a non-alchemist, but are probably standard knowledge for most alchemists. There’s also that mural from Xerxes, which Ed was easily able to understand, because certain symbols and phrases are known to have certain meanings in alchemy.
Encoding systems like this would really only be useful for keeping out non-alchemists and novices, but any skilled alchemist would probably be able to understand them. Because of this, it would probably only be used for fairly benign things. But if you look at things like Marcoh’s notes on the Philosopher’s Stone, or Scar’s brother’s research, those are the really big ones. There’s layers upon layers of coding there that require a ton of skill, time, teamwork, and in Scarbro’s case, knowledge of alchemy across multiple cultures and languages. That’s some intense stuff, but incredibly important. Of course the most rewarding alchemical secrets are the most well guarded.
Challenge yourself. Challenges can often be scary, difficult, and stressful, but sometimes the harder it is, the bigger the reward.
Concept: All is One, One is All. Interpretation: Everything is connected. You are part of a greater flow, and you are not alone.
Tumblr media
“Remember when we talked about what would happen if we died here?” “Uh-huh, and I said everyone would be sad.” -Ed and Al, chapter 22: The Masked Man “Maybe it’s ‘the world’, maybe it’s ‘the universe’... Life is a complex cycle, so vast that we can’t see it with our own eyes. But whatever it’s called, you and I are only a tiny part of the great flow. One part of the whole. But all those individual parts come together so that the whole can exist. And the cycle keeps flowing because all of nature follows this fundamental law. Understanding that flow, deconstructing and then reconstrucing... That’s the meaning of alchemy.” -Ed, chapter 22: The Masked Man
Nothing exists in a vacuum. Everything has impact on something, no matter how small. A huge number of factors came together to create the you that is here now, and in turn, your existence affects the lives of others. Even if it seems like you’re alone, like nobody loves you or pays attention to you, you’re not invisible and you’re not alone.
Maybe you’re someone’s favorite blogger, or maybe someone passed you on the street and thought your hair was beautiful. Maybe you own a shelter pet that would have been otherwise put down, or maybe you helped introduce someone to something that changed their life for the better. Maybe you buy a coffee from Starbucks every week, and your purchase contributes a little to the overall income of that particular Starbucks, which allows it to stay open, thus keeping a single mom employed and able to feed her kids. It’s impossible to exist without having an impact on others. The way each little person operates as part of the great web of humanity to make the world what it is today is part of what makes humanity so beautiful.
You’re never truly alone, no matter how much it feels like it, and there’s always someone who would suffer in some way without you. Try to make meaningful connections. If you ever feel like you’re alone in this world, take some time to think about what things you do that affect others, and how you are connected to the world as a whole.
Concept: The energy of the world is cyclical, and only flows in one direction. Interpretation: What you do comes back to you. Be mindful of the attitude you choose to put into the world.
Tumblr media
“The foundation of alchemy is the power of the circle. The circle dictates the flow of power, and when the proper runes are written within it, it is possible for the power to be released. Even when you’re not using alchemy, the flow of power has many practical applications! For example... If you can read your opponent’s movements, you can turn them back against him. That’s one way of manipulating energy. Accepting the flow, understanding it, and using it to create... That’s what makes an alchemist an alchemist.” -Izumi, chapter 23: Knocking on Heaven’s Door
Due to some spiritual experiences I’ve had in the past, I very much believe that likes attract likes, and that the energy you put out into the world will come back to you. But you don’t have to be even the least bit spiritual or religious to see how this can sometimes be true.
If you snap at someone for no reason, even if that person was in a good mood, that’s going to discourage them from being nice to you. If you’re a generally mean, angry, nasty person, people just aren’t going to like you. But if you gain a reputation for being nice and treating others with respect, that’s going to earn you respect as well.
I’m not saying you have to be cheerful all the time- everyone has their bad days, and plenty of people (myself included) might naturally be a bit more Raven than Starfire. I’m not even saying you always have to be nice to everybody, because there will always be people who aren’t worthy of your respect. What I am saying is that you have control over how you generally interact with others, and it pays to be nice rather than mean. Things like keeping a generally polite attitude, saying nice things to others, and helping people when they need it are things that people will remember, and make them more likely to want to be nice to you as well.
If you find yourself in a situation where you can choose whether or not to be mean, take a minute to think to yourself: Does this person really deserve this treatment? What will this accomplish? How will this affect how others see me? If you can choose whether or not to be unnecessarily mean, I encourage you to not be mean.
Concept: You cannot gain without sacrifice. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. Intepretation: Change doesn’t happen on its own. If you want something to happen, you must first take steps to make it happen yourself.
Tumblr media
“Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy’s first law of equivalent exchange.” -Al, Fullmetal Alchemist opening monologue “It is impossible to create something out of nothing. If one wishes to obtain something, something of equal value must be given. This is the law of equivalent exchange.” -Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood opening monologue
Again, it’s easy to interpret this as a negative, “We all must suffer” thing, or as a (50-year-old conservative voice) “If you’re poor it’s just because you’re a lazy bum and blah blah blah” thing, but this is the positive interpretation I’ve come up with.
Nothing ever happens without some sort of catalyst. You have to take the initiative. Like Ed once taught Rose, no matter how religious you are, you can’t just sit around praying and expect all your problems to magically be solved; You have to at least make some effort yourself. Does this mean hard work will always be rewarded the way you want? No. Sadly, this is an unfortunate reality of the world. But it does mean that nothing will happen if you don’t try.
For example, I see a lot of people say, “I wish I could draw.” ...And then that’s it. They just say that, over and over. Guess what? Literally nobody is stopping you from drawing! You have to be the one to pick up the pencil/pen/tablet/paintbrush/mouse etc. and start drawing. No, your first drawing will not be perfect, and it may take a very long time before you’re able to draw something that you can really be proud of. But you’ll definitely never be able to make a great drawing if you never start drawing in the first place.
If you have a goal, and you’re already doing what you can to work towards that goal, even if “what you can do” is next to nothing: That’s great! I’m proud of you for trying, and I hope you can achieve your goal. But if you’re constantly sitting around lamenting how you wish for such-and-such without actually doing anything to try to make it happen... Well, you’re not really going to get anywhere.
Concept: There’s no such thing as “no such thing”.  Interpretation: Don’t underestimate yourself. Never give up on something just because others don’t believe in you.
Tumblr media
“Nothing is impossible.” -Greed, chapter 27: The Beasts of Dublith
People can accomplish amazing things. I’m sure you’ve all heard the stories of how Harry Potter was written on napkins in a bar and rejected by like 2872193 different publishers or whatever, or how much Vincent van Gogh struggled both in life and art, or how Dav Pilkey wrote Captain Underpants while sitting out in the hall in grade school as a punishment from teachers who told him being a cartoonist isn’t a real career. Even against impossible odds, sometimes with enough determination, you can come out on top.
It’s easy to get bogged down by negativity. If your goal is somewhat out there, you may get a lot of people telling you that you can’t do it, but that’s not necessarily true. In a similar vein to the previous topic, you may never be able to accomplish your goal- life just happens that way sometimes- but there’s always a change that you might. If you let others discourage you to the point of giving up, you’ll definitely never be able to achieve your goal.
Believe in yourself, BELIEVE IN THE ME THAT BELIEVES IN YOU!!!, and keep trying. Don’t give up just because things are looking grim, or because other people say you’ll never be able to do it. They don’t know what you’re capable of.
Concept: A king without his people is no king at all. Interpretation: Life is collaborative. Don’t neglect those who support you.
Tumblr media
“A ruler’s duty is to his people. Without them, he is no king at all!” -Ling, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood episode 22 (because I sadly still don’t own volume 12)
You can’t do everything on your own. People move through life by interacting and helping one another. It’s ok to ask for help sometimes. But at the same time, you have to be ready to give help when the time comes- If someone does things for you, and you turn your back on them when they need you, what kind of person does that make you? Not a very nice one.
Of course, that’s not to say that you have to be giving and giving and giving all the time. If you don’t have the money, time, skills, knowledge, physical ability, or emotional/mental availability to help someone, that’s ok. It happens. But if you can help someone, and choose not to just because you don’t want to make the effort, that’s selfish. Why would you do that to someone who helped you? Who, in turn, will help them? And when people see that you weren’t there for them when you could have been, again, that’s going to come back to you. Nobody wants to help someone who takes without giving.
Also, if you’re in a leadership position, your job is to lead. It is your responsibility to keep an eye on the needs of those below you, and to make sure the system runs smoothly. If you treat your subordinates like garbage, they’re not going to want to respect you.
If you do treat your subordinates well, and help others when they need it, people will look up to you and be more likely to return the favor when you need it.
Be a Colonel Mustang, not a Brigadier General Fessler.
Concept: Take 10, give 11. Interpretation: It doesn’t always take much to be kind. You can do nice things sometimes without expecting something in return.
Tumblr media
“My brother and I met so many wonderful people on our journey, people like Mr. Hughes. I’ve come to realize how much happiness they brought us, even if we didn’t see it at the time. That’s why I feel that now it’s our turn to try and give back some of that happiness. If we receive ten and only give back ten, then it’s a zero-sum gain. Instead, if we receive ten we will add our one to it, and give eleven in return.” -Al, chapter 108: Journey’s End
You don’t always need a specific motivation to be nice. Being kind for kindness’ sake is always a good thing to do, and doesn’t necessarily have any negative payoff. A lot of the time, doing something nice for someone can take as little effort as just saying, “You look nice today”, or even- as Arakawa herself has said she believes to be important- just saying thank you when someone does something for you, no matter how small.
If you’re grateful to have someone in your life, show it! Be nice to them. You don’t even have to give a heartfelt speech; sending people posts you think might interest them, for example, can really make them happy. Also, if you see someone who’s feeling down- or even someone who’s perfectly fine- it never hurts to show them a little kindness. Your small compliment may wind up meaning far more to them than you think.
One way I personally try to spread a little kindness: When I see art on my dash, unless I have some particular reason not to want it on my blog (bad pairing, too sexual, etc.), I reblog it. Even if it’s really terrible art, I reblog it anyway, because I know how much it can mean to beginner artists to have just a little bit of encouragement. I also usually try to gush in the tags about how much I love it, or add specific compliments, like “This is a really cool art style” or “I like how you draw his hair”.
Most of the time, I don’t get anything out of this, and I don’t expect or need to. But every once in a while, someone will message me saying how much my comment meant to them, and that’s a really wonderful thing. Also, whenever I leave a comment on a fanfiction, I always end it with a simple, “Thank you for writing this”. The other day, someone said the same thing on one of my fics, and I was shocked. People so rarely show such simple, straightforward appreciation for the amount of work writing takes, and it really made me happy to read.
Anyway, that’s all! I hope you guys enjoyed this spur-of-the-moment little pep talk, I hope it gave you something to think about, and I hope it might be of some help to some of you. And remember: It’s not hard to be nice!

A Translator's Life: The Edge of Reason
A Translator’s Life: The Edge of Reason
Tumblr media
Motivation vs. Procrastination in the Life of a Translator
In recent months, many things that I have done and seen have made me think on productivity. What motivates and what hinders our work routine, and how all this reflects in our image and our professional success as translators. Today, I will gather some thoughts and information on this.  From translating an inspirational book Recently, I completed the translation of a booklet about self-help for a customer, which had a great impact on me (Cannot give you its title at this stage as it is waiting for publication). I loved doing this translation, with which I also learned a lot. Small, with tiny chapters, written in simple and direct language, permeated with illustrations, it is intended for businessmen or people who wish to start a business, or maybe not even that. Yet, this one is very different from any other kind of self-help business books out there. It demystifies many notions about business we hear. yet, always with a lot of common sense and almost excessive frankness. Virtually all the topics covered in the book can be applied to freelancers as well, especially to translators who have a business. I’ve found myself reflected in many chapters – or saw my past, my background, past jobs, colleagues. Even in typical day-to-day situations in an office, which have nothing to do with me, I saw relatives and friends there. To Gaining Valuable Insights Into My Translation Business There are valuable insights on preparing and launching new ventures, outreach, business concepts, use of technology, distance co-operation, competition, and much about productivity and motivation. I do not want to give away too much here, but a lot of things stuck with me. Not everything is new, but said in such an eloquent way, with great real examples. The text ends up reinforcing what people in the background already know, besides giving us some well-deserved slaps in the face. For example: — Everything you do, say, write, every phone call, every invoice, every email – everything – is marketing. — Being a workaholic, turning nights and weekends, sleeping little and eating badly, and still being proud of it, ultimately is being incompetent, disorganised, clumsy. Working a lot has nothing to do with working well. — Having brilliant ideas or making big plans is no merit; What really makes the difference is in actually realising a succession of little good ideas every day. — Current interaction tools have revalued writing – emails, text messages, websites, blogs. Communication should be efficient, clear, informative. Writing well is the fruit of the clarity and organisation of thoughts; therefore, when recruiting partners, give preference to those who write well. — Want to be immune to competition? Make your product your own, something that only you can do, your way of being, something inimitable. Not just the result of your work, but the whole experience of working with you. (Another that applies even more to translators, as opposed to entrepreneurs from other areas.) — To excel and have a differential, share and teach. The more people want to do what you do, the way you do, the more you establish yourself as a leader. — Our great enemy is interruption. We only surrender when we can work for a while without any kind of interruption, so you have to schedule work periods like this. — What drive productivity is motivation, and this is the result of many factors, including a favourable environment, attainable goals and small daily successes – more on this issue next. — And much, much more.
Tumblr media
More motivation to be a better translator Also recently, I attended a convention for small entrepreneurs. I confess that at first I did not give it much credit – such a public thing, for free… What do I know, right? But it was exceptional. Great lectures, beginning with one of Google’s directors in Australia, and with many panels on digital media, marketing and business tools, etc. In a hall filled with computers, volunteers helped those who wanted to learn and open accounts on Twitter, LinkedIn and other networking sites. At the end of the day, I left full energy to improve my productivity, choose better customers, and make more productive partnerships. And I cannot say why, but I have the impression that only this motivation, this desire to be effective, to reinforce the things that I clearly have been doing right and to correct what is not, already generates positive results. I think that just setting certain priorities or having clearer headings already translates into productivity – and effectiveness. And productivity translates into praise, better services, more money, more time to do what we like, and all this produces more motivation, of course. Speaking of motivation, I discovered today, through a Twitter link, this beautifully illustrated lecture on the results of a research on motivation – what kind of reward yields good results, makes us win challenges. In a TED Talk, Dan Ariely does not say anything that we do not already know, but watching and reading him filled me with enthusiasm. Professional Satisfaction as a Translator I have seen dilemmas, debates and experiences about unattractive professional choices with huge monetary compensation versus choices that give more personal and professional satisfaction with little financial return. And increasingly I am an unconditional partisan of the second option. Because in the long run, a job that generates a good dose of motivation, which is a priority, that makes sense, inevitably generates financial return as well – and from a certain point, a higher financial return alone does not increase the motivation, quite the opposite. There is also a crucial difference in the different positions I see in aspiring translators – for example, in the numerous emails I receive from beginners in translation asking for all kinds of opinions, advice or help. Benefits of being a translator There are people who, before even trying to translate something, soon show that they are anxious to know how much they will earn. It has to be a lot. It has to be now. In general, these same people want to know which areas are easy to get into, requires a small amount of customer service and guaranteed high salary. It is not uncommon to hear some well-publicised myths out there, such as those sworn translators who earn abysmal sums of money each month translating some nonsense driver’s licence. Yes, of course! Gee, that must be why so many of my colleagues and my fellow sworn translators live on yachts, and only I have not realised that yet. The Real Winners of the Translation Industry The fact of the matter is that – almost always – those who have this type of concern when planning their career are not the ones who will spend half an hour immersed in dictionaries trying to get the perfect translation for an expression. Nor would they usually “waste time” studying in depth, or begin their translation career willing to translate for very little money in the beginning. It is not by chance that these “translators” are not the ones who tend to achieve the kind of professional success they were hoping to get. Others want to perfect themselves. They want to study more, read more, do more exercises, want you to recommend other courses. There is a passion behind what they do, as well as the relentless pursuit of technical improvement – which is a lot duller and less exciting than the “passion for languages.” I often keep in touch with these people, and I am happy to see how successful they are in the profession. They are great colleagues. And the interesting thing is that they are often surprised, think they were lucky or do not think they work too much. After 25 years of experience as a translator, now that I have a different perspective, the difference is very clear. People like that are a minority, yes, and they succeed because they have the motivation driven by the right priorities, which lead them to make no effort to improve. They embark on the profession aiming to be excellent professionals throughout their lives, not aiming for a cash-filled savings and early retirement. The difference between these values is huge.  The Worst Enemy of the Translator To conclude, let me talk about our worst enemy: procrastination. Who does not suffer from that throws me the first stone. We have to be connected all day, easy to be found by clients and colleagues, attentive. Emails need to be answered quickly. We need to be aware of the latest news and debates. Help someone to solve a problem on Facebook. Watching a photo album of our latest trip or someone laughing at a bad translation in a video on YouTube … 1h45 later, you wonder why you are still watching this new episode of the Game of thrones. Not to mention that Monday morning, when you take a deep breath and open the directory of the next 35-page review of a text on IT, and suddenly that’s the ideal time to mow the lawn (Or update the blog…) Sometimes, procrastination is more blatant. Sometimes, it is camouflaged as research or confused with coffee time. Anyway, if we’re honest, we all know that we don’t roll up our sleeves more than we should, that we often lose control over the time of rest. Then the blame hits and we work until 3 o’clock in the morning, we skip meals. And when we see it, we fall into the vicious cycle of inefficient workaholism, which can end up compromising quality.  Applying These Reflections to the World of Translation It was just when I was thinking about these subjects that I came across this article, about the evolutionary, neurological and behavioural reasons behind procrastination, and why it seems to sabotage us in such effective ways. It brings some clues to cheating our own brains, or at least not letting ourselves be fooled. Another read is worth very much. This text quotes Dan Ariely, a scholar of human behaviours associated with economics who has given excellent lectures in TED. On his site there are links to podcasts he has done on the various chapters. I still do not know how to relate all this to the universe of translation, but all this discussion has attracted me immensely and I feel it will still bring me something useful – even if it is good reflections and reading recommendations. Now, to work! From the Fish Box
Q) Jimmy what you think of this?  Russia china Iran all have tech to shut down grid?  Also you think of dangers 5G network. I know we have God. How else can we protect ourselves? I know you're around a lot of you know super advanced people and we need your advice. " - R.R. and J.J. / California A) I do not subscribe to all of that or worry about 5G or the Russians are coming or the boogey man. Most times all of this runs on fear (politics, religion and society) and good vs evil and it keeps all of us down/depressed and sad. Ignore it and live your best life now and as if each day is your last and one day you’ll be right……….attitude is everything. - Jimmy From an MLF Mastery student: Q) "On page 12 of your "Spiritual Healing Techniques" you write to test your name before stating "I AM CLEAR." In my notes from level 1, I don't see that you said we needed to start with testing our name. A friend who read the book corrected me in the way I was clearing.  Please clear this up and tell me which way is best." - L.L. A) "Thanks, that’s a great question…………the book was sold to the general public so when folks start out it’s important for them to say my name is………and my name is Nemo the fish to establish Yes and No…That step is for folks who have never done this before. Once you’ve done it a bunch it is not necessary to say your name every time……spirit knows it’s you …….I jump right in to I am clear, unclear and running forward several times a day to dial in to work on things and before every client……………..I hope this helps……..all the best." - Jimmy

Your time is precious. Take this course and find out why everybody is raving about it and why over 35,000 students rated my courses 5 stars!
Don’t waste your money
Inside this course, you’re getting exactly the same course materials and curriculum as our 12 week in-person programming bootcamp. Instead of spending $8000+ dollars and taking time off work, save loads of money by getting this course and do it at your own pace!
Don’t just take my word for it, see what my past students had to say about my courses:
“You will not find a better teacher than Angela. She does a wonderful job of encouraging you to learn swift the right way. I want to encourage everyone thinking about taking this class to get it, as it is the BEST programming class I’ve seen on anywhere and I’ve tried more than a few of them. If you are looking for an excellent swift programming course, stop there here because you have found it. You will learn Swift from the very beginning of programming all the way through making your own apps that you can upload to the App store.” – Ian Hopjins
“SO GOOD!!! Retention rate is incredible because Angela does a great job in explaining and teaching every aspect of what we are doing. Most of the other instructors on Udemy put code on the screen and pretend nothing happened. This course is amazing! 5/5″ – Muhammad Ibrahim
“Angela is a spectacular teacher!” – Marco Zanirato
“This course was terrific. Only after taking a few more courses from others that I realized how good this course was. This course taught me more than I was expecting, it provided great instructions and a lot of hands-on tasks to drill-in the concept.” – Marc
“Best use of your money! I was a complete beginner but Angela made me a pro in weeks.” – Burak Tunçbilek
“IT IS #1!!!!!!!!! Absolutely Amazing. The best iOS course i have ever taken. Angela explains everything the way it needs to be explained, so everything is easily understood. The concept of this course is built to make you learn, not just watch and repeat. Angela is highly educated and it is very much noticeable during the entire course. Again, it is fantastic. Thank you. Please create more courses!!!!!” – Eduard Khachian
Are you trying to choose between all the different Flutter courses on Udemy? Take a look at what students on my course had to say about this:
I have revamped my expectation for what a 5 star course should be for Udemy. Angela, you’re awesome! I already rated the course as 5 stars early on (at about 20% completion), but after completing roughly 70% of the course, I can say this is my favourite Udemy course as of today. Brilliant course Angela! – Alberto L
“I took a lot of courses on Udemy and elsewhere and non of them were as clear and perfectly paced as this one! Angelas approach is really awesome, deep and clear.” – Žan Fras
“I have taken several iOS courses, so far this course had the best explanation on swift and xcode documentation. The lecturer is kinda humorous sometimes which make this course even more enjoyable.” – Bryan Pukanda
“I have taken lots of courses on udemy and elsewhere for self learning and i can tell you with all the honesty this is one course which i did not want it to end. It is like one of those movies that you wish keeps going. Whatever concepts are covered were covered very beautifully and made learning quite simple. I got so many answers to Why? in this course like how closures work and why they work that way… why delegates work that way. Thank you so much for this course.” – Arun Lakhera
“I compare this to another top iOS class on Udemy, but I think that this one beats it. The reason? Angela doesn’t show you a plethora of material and then say that we will discuss this later, or say “just do this. You will see why later.” She goes into the reason for doing something before doing it.”  – Clyde Addison
REMEMBER… I’m so confident that you’ll love this course that we’re offering a FULL money back guarantee for 30 days! So it’s a complete no-brainer, sign up today with ZERO risk and EVERYTHING to gain.

"Angela is literally my favorite teacher. Ever. In the entire universe. She is hilarious and teaches in a lighthearted and fun way that is also very clear to understand. I instantly purchased this course as soon as I saw it was released because I know Angela delivers the highest quality educational content possible. 100% recommend this course (as well as every other course she's created). Thank you, Angela, for helping me as I make a career pivot into becoming a hybrid UX designer/mobile developer!" - Jacob Pernell
"Angela is my favorite Udemy professor for coding courses. Her methods for building onto the material so that you're never progressing too fast or too slow make for a really engaging learning experience. She's thorough in her explanations and uses fun projects to discuss the material. I had started a couple other Flutter courses before finding this one, and I've progressed more in 24hrs than I did in a week with the other courses. TGIWednesday and Love for sale...
TGIWednesday News
Ah... it's mid-February and it's all about Love (brought to you by Hallmark, lol) Around this time every year I recall my youngest son and his girlfriend (now wife) asking me to drive them to Olive Garden for Valentine’s Dinner.  I drove them there only to pull up to at least 100 people standing outside waiting to be seated.  I smiled and thought, “Good luck with that” and let them out and said, “Ok, you kids have fun!”  If you love someone you enjoy their company even if it’s waiting in line somewhere.  If you’re with your dreamboat romantic partner, give them an experience that out does any gift.  Some people enjoy words, others enjoy gifts, and deeds, others enjoy touch….which one are you?  Which one is your current or past mate?  If you’re single, don’t give up hope, not everyone who is with someone is happy.  Think of things in terms of the universe grooming you and improving you so that you can resonate and match up with that ideal lover that finishes your sentences as well as your pasta!
One of the very first MyBeliefWorks™ audios we ever put out a few years ago Having Ideal Love & Creating Dynamic Relationships WILL clear out a ton of ick that may be blocking or preventing you from realizing your full romantic potential.  We've put it at a special price of $39 through this Sunday so pick it up today CLICK HERE

Digital Media and the Internet
With the ever evolving memes on 9GAG and the gifs on Tumblr, the Internet thrives daily on our ability to express ourselves from the comfort of ours screens.
After a quick Google search, the internet is defined as (lemme just drop the definition here);
a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols.
It has crawled into our very homes paired with the ever evolving and advancing technological improvements that we’ve seen on the Jetsons (yes, I’m old enough to remember, sheesh).
The Internet is the platform; Digital Media the content and how it is presented.
Tumblr media
However, as Digital Media and the Internet steadily increases in demand within Schools and Businesses, where there is a treasure, there is always an ancient spirit ready to prevent anyone from getting it. I mean, look at Indiana Jones. But seriously, just as there are pros, the cons are surely there as well.
In Schools
Tumblr media
From my own experience, Digital Media has been a heaven-sent to the prison reminiscent classrooms of schools
Though I haven’t been much of a tech person growing up - I found pleasure in thumbing through a hard cover book for 3-4 hours straight - Digital Media in schools is a breath of fresh air.
I believe it would instill a sense of creativity and productivity, which has grown increasingly scarce among students, as they are taught information they barely need to actually function in the real world. With Digital Media, it is your work, your ideas and fortunately - fortunately - there are laws to prevent/dissuade others from stealing it.
Despite this blog being homework and I would’ve never conjured the thought to write a blog (...yet), I know I certainly would have done my own research. information is now readily available at our fingertips and now in as many forms as we wish for all learning styles. This encourages us to be proactive with our individual work. And let’s be honest, class seems boring compared to the things we learn on a daily from the internet on our own.
Tumblr media
Au contraire (I’m ashamed to say I Googled that lol), there are evidently more distractions with the introduction of the internet and digital media to traditional classrooms. Though a perk to being born in the digital age is the ability to multitask, the short attention span Digi Nates have makes this more counterproductive than productive at all!
I know this will sound contradictory, but hear me out first. As creatives or anyone producing content for the internet, we must remember to stamps our rights onto our work. If not, no matter how good our content is or how much work we put in, it can and most-likely will be stolen. Unless, there is an agenda to help out other students, attaching the appropriate copyright is imperative.
In Businesses
Tumblr media
“The benefits of social media for businesses are extensive.”
We all know it’s possibly to build an entire business on Instagram alone and monetize your YouTube account to be paid – among many other options. The driving factors for these to come about are followers…, which I don’t have much of.
Enough of my poor attempts at being social media savvy, a loyal base of followers means that you’ve been doing something right and should continue to do and improve that thing. Keeping them engaged really is the only hard part (after getting them of course!) as they’ll be easily accessible when you want to introduce your new products and/or services. Without the internet and Digital Media, it would not be possible to have an online store without a physical building and keep them coming back with engaging content. The best part is, you don’t need capital (fancy business term for dat moolah)! The most effort should be placed in creating and sharing great content relevant to your target market/audience and your business.
“The ability to access information quickly and easily is a major benefit for businesses.”
The internet makes it easy for access to information to be granted. With automation and resource sharing, the internet and digital media makes it easier and more inviting for patrons to want to make transactions. The smoother, professional and user-friendly your store’s interface and systems run, it will secure your legitimacy as a non-sketchy platform that steals credit card numbers and whatever money that’s left on the card. It also makes it easier for you to organize sales and do market analysis.
Tumblr media
Have you ever really wanted a product or service online and amidst the sea of good reviews, there’s a droplet of bad reviews and you go whoopdeedoo there goes my buyer’s confidence? Not quite like that? Okay.
I’m sure if we saw a product online that we wanted and a predominant amount of accounts send complaints like ‘didn’t even get my product’, or ‘horrible customer service, long waiting, product not properly packaged’, we would swiftly find a similar product by someone else with better reviews. Negative reviews can swiftly cause a booming business to sink to rock bottom so it is in every online stores’ interests to ensure that their customers are satisfied or at least duly compensated if some mishap occurs. In this case, whether or not the customer is right, the customer’s word holds far more power than your $2M television advertisements. Nothing personal.
Making accounts online have been made so much easier in this day and age with persons no longer choosing to use their real names. I mean, look at Tumblr – fortunatelygrandcheesecake? Though tis quite the hilarious option, that means others can also impersonate you and your brand. We’ve seen plenty of fan pages on Instagram that closely resemble the celebrity’s personal page and some have even caused controversy. It is evident that though the biggest threat to anyone’s online information are hackers, if they have bad intentions, there are many ways to sink a ship.
Then Vs Now
Tumblr media
We can view the evolution of media in terms of ancestors and descendants.
The internet and digital media - modern forms of media - descended from the ancestry of printeries and vocal announcements, actual town criers to vehicular ones with a looped recording.
Tumblr media
Fortunately, some of us have been able to witness the world change rapidly before our eyes. Media has now evolved tremendously and advertising and learning has become a cross-media and multi-platform enterprise.
Once upon a time we had to budget in radio announcements, television advertising, printing distribution and billboard displays. Now, we no longer focus heavily on that where our businesses are concerned. In advertising our businesses, we usually first turn to graphic designs and displays to intrigue our customers and catch their eyes as the new generation has very short attention spans. Society has so evolved into such a fast paced world that most strategies are used to capitalize on this.
In our schools, internet and digital media has also helped to slightly prod the evolution of the standard classroom. Many governments have allowed devices as ways to aid in the learning process from kindergarten up to the tertiary level. Even “third world” countries such as my own have stepped up to the plate to innovate how teaching is done. Whilst our grandparents may have known slate and chalk, then our parents knowing notebooks and pencil, we know of laptops and Wi-Fi and those below us, tablets and AI. This helps everyone to tap into their own learning styles, expressing their individuality and producing their optimum level of learning and growth at their own expense.
Honestly though, I still would love to sit in a bean bag chair with a novel written from 1973 by a wide window with the sun shining through the leaves of a tree outside and a steaming cup of cinnamon apple tea beside me. That’s just me I guess.
