do you have any thoughts on cazador as a character? personally i really loved the parallels between him and astarion & the way that the master/spawn relationship is used as an allegory for cyclical abuse. the scene with cazador’s master’s skull where you find out that he was once victimized in the exact same way that he later victimized astarion was really a lightbulb moment for me re: what vampirism represents in this game.
BOY DO I, i don't think much of it hasn't already been said, though. He's a tragic character in his own right of course, not that that takes away from the awful man he is.
Me and my boyfriend make fun of him a lot, we call him "the best BG3 character" as a little inside joke between us and come up with ridiculous scenarios of things that might have occurred throughout those 200 miserable years the spawn had under his command lol. Maybe he had a month where he was really specific about the shoes everyone wore, maybe once every other decade he had a weird week where he tried to be "nice" only to become frustrated when his efforts weren't immediately met in kind by the rightfully-terrified spawn, maybe between all the torture and horrific-ness he just did some plain weird shit like making someone crouch by in his fainting couch and wait by open-handed for grapes that he dramatically chewed on and then spat right out since he can't actually eat them lmao
And that's hysterical but I think we also started doing that because when you meet Cazador, when you first hear his voice and see his demeanor in person your immediate reaction is probably somewhere along the lines of "THIS is the clown you were so scared of, Astarion?"
And the answer is, of course, yes. This embarrassing little man stuck in a cage of his making instills fear beyond comprehension in Astarion and all his siblings. This man who undoubtedly showed all these spawn, inadvertently, the strangest, most arguably "human" aspects of himself at some point or another during these two centuries they had together is also an absolute monster. And i really like that! I think its far more effective and fitting for his story than if he was, lets say, a Ketheric type.

Look at Ascended Astarion in the epilogue now, for example. Everyone agrees that he's an absolute fucking dork - and I think we all also agree that he will go on to destroy the lives of many people beyond repair, especially his own, until the day he is killed.
In the topic of vampirism as an allegory for abuse, I both agree and also don't, at least not exactly - i just think it's deeper than that. I've spoken about this in another post but i find it incredibly refreshing how, to me, it seems like Baldur's Gate 3 has no interest in painting vampirism as sexy or fun past a surface level. It's a curse that nobody asks for unless put in a situation where they feel as if they have no other way out, and it shapes and haunts you for the rest of your undead existence.
Even if you enjoy its benefits at first, that has a time limit. You will see your family and loved ones die, you will see culture evolve while you stay perpetually the same. You will experience so much hurt and pain because the only thing that makes life truly sweet is knowing that it is finite, and eventually it will wear down all of your humanity. And since you can't die unless you are scorched by the sun, staked, or dismembered, you must live with the knowledge that you will never have a peaceful death - and since you won't have a peaceful death, you better not die - and if you don't want to die, you better not be weak - and if you don't want to be weak, you must seek out power at all cost and slash things like love and friendship out of your life.
And what is funny, is that in his attempt to be more like a mortal - to eat, drink, walk the sun, such incredibly simple desires - Cazador (and Astarion, if he ascends) is accidentally only drawing further away from the person he supposedly once was, because that fear of weakness has already utterly corrupted his soul.
That's quite a grim way to look at it, of course. But I genuinely think that it is the natural conclusion of something like immortality.
That's why I quite like that, even after Astarion has found happiness, even after he finds his peace, he still doesn't exactly embrace being a vampire - because It's not something he should be expected to embrace. I think it's a very unique take on the trope.
I also want to leave here this message written by his character writer, which really got me thinking about him on a deeper level since i saw it months ago. It is specifically about the sexual aspect, but I think it branches beyond it too, when you think about it.

The TFP Autobots Comforting You After the Loss of a Family Member
Note: This ones a bit personal bc my grandma just passed away. This is how i'm coping lol and i hope this brings anyone else in the same situation some comfort <3

Optimus:
He understands loss more than anyone
Honestly all the autobots do, they lost family, friends, their culture, their home, etc.
Optimus knows everyone grieves differently, so he doesn't push you to talk about it
When he finds out/you tell him, he'll say "I'm deeply sorry for your loss (insert name)" and nothing more, unless you want to talk about it
Then of course he's there to listen
I feel like he would be the best person to vent to in this situation, and he would love to hear all about the memories you made with the person you're grieving
Overall he's very gentle with the subject and knows almost exactly what to do

Ratchet:
He's definitely up there when it comes to experiencing loss
Ratchet's a medic, so he's dealt with losing people and handling the reactions of people who have lost people
I'd say he'd be pretty similar to Optimus in this situation
Won't push you to say anything, but is always there if you need him
Checks up on you more often, not in a constant, overwhelming way of course, but in a "subtly makes sure you've eaten, slept, and drank water" way
If you DO want to talk, he's there.
He was working on the computer? Not anymore, his attention is on you
Ratchet isn't as good with words, but he lets you know he's listening by nodding
When you're feeling a bit better, he'd try to make you laugh by repeating some random joke he heard from Raf or Miko, but fails so miserably at making it funny that its actually funny
I think its canon that he has horrible humor lmao i love him sm

Bumblebee:
Once you tell him, he gets noticeably sad, even if you don't express being sad at the moment
Completely understands if you don't wanna talk about it and offers to take you on a drive for a distraction
He'll look extra hard for any radio stations that have your favorite songs
When you do end up talking about whoever passed, he'll listen and probably ask some questions about them
He's curious about how much this person meant to you and wants to be there for you no matter what
Bee's probably curious abt how human funerals work and things like that, and you explain to him that it depends on the culture and family

Bulkhead:
Arguably the sweetest bot
Isn't entirely sure how to handle it at first, but he knows he hates seeing you upset
So he asks about hobbies you like and helps you/is with you while you work on those
He's always bringing up stuff that you like (playing music you like, telling stories you like, etc)
And just like the other bots, he's there to listen if you want to talk
I'd say bulkhead's more on the listening side, he'll occasionally say a comforting phrase, but mostly just nods along
Similar to 'Bee, he'll be curious about how humans handle this sort of situation too

Ohhh boy she knows what its like to lose family
She'll try not to overstep any boundaries, but definitely pushes you to talk about it, at least a little
She knows what its like to keep feelings bottled up
Always makes sure that you know she's there for you
If you really aren't feeling up to talking about it though, you two just silently enjoy a ride or sitting up on top of the base
She'll bring up Cliffjumper a few times, share stories about him
And you share stories about your person
Arcee gives the best advice, especially in dealing with grief, mainly because she's learned from her past struggles with it

Bayonetta 3 Spoilers
Another aspect of this tragedy of a story that bothers me is the fact that Bayonetta herself, as a character, seems... unaware of the storyline she is in?
Let me explain what I mean: BayoLuka is endgame (let's ignore the MANY problems inherent to that fact for the sake of the length of this post), so let us take a look at how Bayonetta speaks with and about Luka in this game. The way I perceived it (since subjectivity and all) is that she viewed him as something of a troublesome child, annoying and inconvenient, not fit to be taken seriously. What does she do when Luka flies face first into danger? She dismisses it and leaves the perfect stranger Viola to tail him and make sure he doesn't fall face first into lava. How does she react when the "big reveal" of Luka being the beast happens? Again, she is really fucking dismissing, all things considered. "Oh, he'll come back, he always does", that sort of thing (my time-line might be a bit off but I refuse to subject myself to this story again so please bear with me). The most engaged she gets is when she jokingly(?) threatens Viola to make sure SHE keeps him safe. Again, at this point in the story Viola is still a stranger, and Bayo still viewes her as a bit of a, for lack of a better term, noob.
Now let's turn to how Bayo interacts with Jeanne. The goofy-ass smile she has when Jeanne drives in to take her away from danger, the way she gets visibly enraged when Jeanne is captured by Kraken, and also, she follows a fleeing Kraken in order to save Jeanne. It's in the way she looks at her and calls her name here... (again maybe I'm biased, but there is undeniable affection). It's the small things, like when she glances back to make sure Jeanne is following when they enter the Gates of Hell, or when they look to each other when Viola is dumping exposition on our asses.
But maybe they are just very close, gal-pals one might say. We don't see enough to be able to say for sure what the nature of their relationship is. Fair, but we see LESS from Luka. There is no in-universe reason why BayoLuka get together, that's my issue. If we had spent time with the two of them like we do BayoJeanne, I don't think people would have been so bothered.
Fucking hell, when she gets to the Tokyo version of BayoJeanne she reaches for Jeanne first! The alternate universe version of herself is apparently uninteresting compared to Jeanne, and when she figures out that she has been killed, she gets angry (arguably angrier than Tokyo Bayo, who is so vengeful she takes over the gameplay in order to beat the shit out of whatever cloud-themed entity of the day we have going on). The interactions with Egyptian Jeanne don't even need me to point out the subtext. The point us that every time a Jeanne is present, player Bayo goes IN.
I'm well aware that this is also, definitely, copium for yours truly. I'm just trying to verbalize why the story causes such strong emotional reactions. This is the INTEGRAL problem with the writing in Bayonetta 3—the cutscenes do not feel like a continuance of the gameplay. Oh, did you beat the shit of this cloud and saved the Bayonetta of that universe in gameplay? Well tough fucking luck because she gets necked as soon as the cutscene starts. It's like there were two writing teams at Platinum with two very different stories in mind and they keep struggling for control throughout the length of the game. The result is a catastrophe, pretty much. A catastrophe that leaves me feeling frustrated and unfulfilled.
But the good news is that skipping the cutscenes pretty much creates a new story for the game. There's still flubs, definitely, but in my opinion this is the superior way of enjoying the game.
I wonder if any of this is coherent, lmao. At least it makes me feel better to rant.

Alright nerds I'm back with more ROTTMNT content and this time we're talking about turtles being left alone
Spoilers ahead for seasons 1 & 2 and the movie
On yet another Monday evening I was thinking about the season 1 episode 'Man vs. Sewer' (which they really should have been called Turtle vs. Sewer c'mon now) and Raph's reaction to being left alone.
So naturally my mind wandered down the path of how the other three turtles would react to being left all alone. So I am here to present my headcanony thoughts similar to my other post about the turtles rankings of fav brother which I'll link here.
This post is going to be very long. I apologize now.
Now in the episode 'Man vs. Sewer' (btw I understand this is supposed to be a play on how every story is one of four or something story types, e.g. Man vs. Man, Man vs. Nature etc.) I'm rambling again!
In 'Man vs. Sewer' the other turtles make it seem like Raph is the only one who has a reaction to being left alone, and while I'm sure Raph is the only one with such a... dramatic reaction we'll say. I feel that the other three would likely still have a reaction to being left alone given the fact that all four of these turtles have been raised in an EXTREMTLY close knit family. I mean prior to meeting April their only friends were each other and were likely the only other living beings they saw. After all in the episode 'Hot Soup: The Game' it's said that Raph was 13 when he got to go on his first solo topside mission. Now while it is possible the boys went topside prior to this as a group it wouldn't surprise me if this was the first time any of them were allowed to leave the sewers given their likely overall lack of um... stealth at such a young age since they barely have stealth as teenagers lol.
I'm getting off track though! My point is that because this family is practically always together I find it hard to believe that if any of them were left alone they'd be perfectly fine and so I will now present my headcanons/ hypothesis' about each turtles reaction to being alone.
Now Raph has already been cannonically shown in his reaction to being alone. He goes savage caveman brain, thinks everything is a threat and believes he'll die alone.
Next up we'll look at:
Leo

Now I know you could point to the movie for examples of Leo being alone but that is such an extreme situation in comparison to Raph getting lost in a sewer for like an hour or so that I don't feel the movie is a great comparison for "being left alone" so for this post when I'm talking about "being alone" I don't mean the others are dead, or kidnapped or anything really angsty. Think more lost in the sewers, or some of the family went to visit Todd for the weekend and one stayed at the lair alone and realized that was a mistake because separation anxiety and codependency lmao.
Now Leo is arguably also left alone in the episode 'Portal Jacked' (portal jacked is such a good episode for Leo character analysis I'm telling you) Now I know what you're thinking "Lily he literally is with Senor Hueso practically the entire episode" and you're right. Leo is technically only alone for maybe ten seconds between him exiting his portal outside Run of the Mill Pizza and entering the restaurant to find Senor Hueso but he's left without any of his family with him almost the entire episode and it leads to a lot of discussion about them and him being without them so I feel it will help support my argument.
Anyway!
In 'Portal Jacked' Leo whilst still being himself starts to show some of his insecurity in the episode. He admits to "being nothing" without his brothers and continuously brings up how he's better with his brothers. I feel based on these comments and this episode as a whole that if Leo were left alone for likely a longer period of time than Raph (let's say a day or two at the minimum for an effect to really set in) he'd likely let his insecurities get the best of him. As without his brothers as an audience to entertain, taunt, and distract himself from his own insecurities he's left with only himself to be his hype man and back up.
If you don't agree that Leo has insecurities I'll point you in the direction of the episode 'Minotaur Maze' and Leo's reoccurring need to prove himself to others and have them see him as important.
This insecurity is also what plays into Leo's behavior as leader in the film as he clearly doesn't view himself as worthy/ready for the title of "leader" at the start of the film.
Using these points I feel that without his brothers to back him up and perhaps cover for areas Leo lacks in he'd quickly spiral and become very unsure of himself and his actions. As Leo (prior to the movie especially) comes across as someone who does not want to take credit for something until it has already happened and succeeded. (e.g the episode 'One Man's Junk' where Leo literally waits to pick a side on the mystic meatal shop idea until after it fails and sides with Raph) Leo needs to be able to shift blame and "hide in the crowd" if you will in order to not feel like he's failing during a mission (which most the time he's actually succeeding just maybe not how he envisions himself doing so). So if he were to be left all alone with only himself to blame if a mistake was made I feel he'd become very unsure of himself and perhaps rather nervous his portals perhaps become more unreliable than normal (if we are setting this post season 2 finale then it would probably more like him earlier in the show where his portals don't always work. If we're pre-season 2 finale where his portals barely work on a good day then he'd likely cease making useful portals all together lol) and is continuously cracking jokes to whoever is around to listen (even if it's just himself) because to quote Leo: "That's how I cope!"
Final analysis of Leo alone: Very insecure, Nervous, desperately trying to find someone to hang around so he can throw his one liners to try to cope, and anxious to have his brothers back to back up him and his crazy ideas.
Whew! That was a very long research paper I just gave you and that's only the first one!
Again I am so sorry for the length of this post lmao I enjoy doing character analysis too much I'm so sorry.
Moving on to my favorite turtle we have:
Donnie

While it seems that Donnie enjoys being alone I find that because of this close knit family upbringing he'd still be affected by being alone. After all there's a difference between:
alone and lonely and
choosing to be alone and being left alone.
Donnie has plenty of hobbies that prompt him to be alone e.g. he has a video game addiction; or want to be alone e.g. He's the family genius/inventor whose in his lab for extended periods of time to try an accomplish something and anyone disturbing him is an unwelcomed distraction.
An example of this is the episode 'Mind Meld' when Donnie-fied Leo, Raph and Mikey try to get rid of Donnie when he asks them to come eat pizza with him. To quote Donnie "Hey wait! You're trying to get rid of me! That's what I do but... but to you!"
'Mind Meld' is a great episode for Donnie character analysis since there are basically 4 of him in this episode and we get to see how Donnie's character isn't just the smart inventor guy but also a normal teenager who likes to do normal teen things
While Donnie likes being alone and working in his lab, when he wants to see people he wants to see them and not be alone. This is shown in an earlier scene in 'Mind Meld' when Donnie excitedly asks if his brothers are ready for their game of skateboard ball. His Donnie-fied brothers give a very Donnie response and shrug him off saying they have better things to do and Donnie is left really disappointed. Leo, Raph and Mikey are acting like Donnie when he's in "genius tech guy mode" rather than "I'm ready to have fun with my brothers mode" like actual Donnie is in this scene.
Honestly the whole episode is a great example of how Donnie is a well rounded character and how he'd be very different if he only had one facet to his personality. With Leo, Raph, and Mikey all Donnie-fied but seemingly only to possess Donnie's intellect you see that Donnie is more than his brain and has other sides to his personality. That was a side tangent sorry! I really love the writing of this show! Back to my actual point!!
When Donnie wants to work on something people are a nuisance but when he wants to have fun then people better be around or Donnie will be sad.
Now that I have prefaced the circumstances, I will dive into my headcanon/hypothesis about how Donnie would react to being alone.
Now Donnie's reaction is entirely hinged on what mode he is currently in. If he is in work mode it would probably go something like this:
Like I have just stated Donnie is in his lab a lot working on various projects, be it improving his battleshells, working on his drill, working on the Turtletank etc. And based on Donnie's character he seems the type to hyper-focus on his work and not realize how much time has passed *cough* me on any passion project *cough* With this being said I feel that Donnie probably wouldn't notice he's been left alone at first lol. He'd probably hyper-focus for an entire day, forget to eat, maybe remember to go to sleep in a bed or just pass out in his lab, wake up and repeat the process until he finished his project or remembered to take a break. This would likely cause a decline in Donnie's overall well being and is why I think Donnie shouldn't be left unsupervised for extended periods of time lmao. So his family would likely have to be gone at least a week for Donnie to notice if I'm being honest. But that is only if Donnie were in work mode!
If Donnie was left alone in the lair and he was in social mode, I feel that he'd likely be pretty bummed that no one was around to bug him. Between Leo razzing him, Mikey always coming around to cuddle/get affection from each of them and just Raph's overall presence and dumb ideas like trying to shove something up his nose. Donnie would likely feel like he's actually alone. Like entirely alone. There's no hum of energy from his brothers, no slight annoyance just silence and emptiness. And he might relish it for a moment but after a few minutes of uninterrupted silence he'd realize that he can't take it and needs the energy to fill the space again. And knowing Donnie (and depending on how long the fam was gone for) he'd try to substitute it with tech. Causing a new start of work mode that was trying to fix the lack of socializing he craves.
Final analysis of Donnie alone: He doesn't immediately notice that he's alone but once he's made aware of the growing silence and actual solitude with no disruption it starts to get to him and makes him anxious for some social stimulation from others specifically from his family because turtle fam is best fam

Now Mikey is a lil bit more difficult for me to figure out how he'd react to being alone and this is mainly because I find it hard to imagine a normal situation that would cause him to be left alone. If we went with my everyone went away for the weekend idea I said at the start I find it highly unlikely they'd let Mikey of all people stay home alone. Simply because he's the baby and they don't like to leave him without supervision/back up (I mean just look at the episode 'Hot Soup: The Game' they literally watch him on security cameras like new parents watching a baby monitor) Like hell he's being intentionally left to his own devices for a whole weekend.
Which makes me think Mikey being alone would have to be accidental like Raph's in 'Man vs. Sewer' be it he got lost in the sewers, or like a proper younger sibling wandered off without paying attention and lost the group in: the Hidden City, Big Mama's building, the Sewers, New York City itself or whatever setting the boys are currently in.
Mikey likely wouldn't be alone for long since you know Raph will be on a rampage to find his baby brother, unless Mikey got hella lost and Donnie couldn't just track him lol.
So for this hypothetical scenario we'll say Mikey wanders off and Raph notices after several minutes and in classic turtles fashion hijinks ensues. Since this alone time will likely be brief and accidental I imagine Mikey's reaction (since he's played as the very emotional one -in a good way- and also for a little bit of comedic purposes) to be similar to a toddler who get's lost in a store.
Everything's fine before he realizes he's lost then he looks around doesn't recognize where he is or see his brothers he starts to freak out a bit and maybe get a bit teary eyed thinking he's been abandoned when really it's his own fault for getting lost. Y'know just normal baby sibling who's constantly supervised things ✌️
It's a lot of meekly wandering around calling out his brother's names hoping they'll magically appear before him and getting scared by anyone who approaches him, because even though he could definitely kill you since Mikey can throw a whole ass cargo ship around, now that he's scared he can't even lift his weapon high enough to seem like a threat.
This line of reasoning is mainly coming from the episode 'The Gumbus' where when frightened Mikey would rather hide and escape even if he has more than enough skill to defend himself from a normal threat lol.
Final analysis of Mikey alone: He's a frightened baby ready for his big brothers to come charging in to take him home and shower him with affection because while Mikey acts like he's big man on campus he is still bebe
And with that I conclude my long monologue about these turtle boys for another night! I will likely return with another thought soon as Rise has taken up every space square inch of my brain lately lol! Anyways as always these are just my opinions you are free to disagree with me this has just been rattling around in my brain for the past week and I had to share! I love all of these characters and I think Rise did a great job at revitalizing them to a new generation. With that I bid you all farewell! Until next post!

this weeks chapter was very... :/
i don’t even hate the chapter this week like content wise i don’t think it’s a bad chapter i just think that the lead up (the entirety of the culling game) and the pacing and gojos reaction to everything is making it all very. meh to me :/
the whole culling game wasn’t my favorite for a lot of reasons and i don’t necessarily blame gege for it completely. i think that there isn’t an arc better than hidden inventory and there aren’t any fights better than the ones in shibuya, so following both of those really incredible arcs with another that is supposed to be equally as good or better does not seem like an easy thing. (spoilers for CG and new ch. under the cut)
one of the reasons the fights in shibuya are sooo good to me is because they are fights that are deeply rooted in character and character development. maki killing the zenin clan, megumi fighting toji, etc. the itadori-mahito fight at the end of the shibuya arc is entirely a character/meant for character development fight for itadori, with his whole "i am you, you are me" realization/acceptance, and it is arguably the best fight in the manga like it is sooo good.
but there arent any fights built around character in the culling game and like. given that gege has made such amazing, character oriented fights in the past. it is a little bit disappointing. esp since i don’t personally want to just watch/read a bunch of fights repeatedly like i WANT there to be some kind of deeper meaning/purpose to them (outside of trying to end the culling game/free gojo obv). makis fight in the CG is probably the most “character” oriented fight and i was just very eh about it :/ but i love maki <3
the treatment of the women in the CG recently has just turned me away from the manga in general too. scorpion hair remi girl was fucked, uro not having more of a role was disappointing, yuki DYING wasn’t great.
tsumiki was the reason i didn’t stop reading the manga earlier in the arc because i was looking forward to her having her moment for LITERALLY THE ENTIIREEEE ARC. just for gege to do that to her and it reallllyy pissed me off.
as much as i hate how tsumikis arc went, i think i could’ve been a liiittle bit more accepting of it if the whole yorozu-sukuna thing was done well. but i didn’t like that either LMAO. i think the whole “yorozu loves sukuna and she sees how lonely he is etc” is like. a cool concept overall and i think if it was done right it could’ve been a good addition to the plot. even if there was just a little bit more of a flashback of yorozu and sukuna from that era with more information and context i think it would’ve made it a lot better. and i could’ve been like. a tiny bit less pissed about tsumiki. but the fact that it wasn’t a very satisfying arc for tsumiki OR yorozu just made it all very underwhelming to me. esp since tsumiki was what i was looking forward to the most in this arc 🙃🙃🙃
so yeah this chapter wasnt the worst thing in the world its just very underwhelming bc everything that led up to this was really underwhelming for me too :( and gojos reacction in this chapter is. upsetting. esp following the whole yorozu-sukuna thing and the "sukuna is lonely" part of it. like sukuna and gojo are meant to be foils of each other. gojos character is built around the fact that he has those connections and relationships with his friends and the students and he fell in gay love with geto and he "wont let anyone else be lonely" like the relationships he has is WHY HES LIKE THAATTTTT. him having no reaction to nanamis death and nobaras condition and maki and megumi and ALL of his students feels like a very surface level "gojo is a funny silly goofy guy" thing to do. but i would like to believe that gege knows and cares about his characters more than a surface level interpretation but. idk well see i guess. i just would have liked to see the sukuna-gojo being foils of e/o actually being played out narratively in these past few chapters more. but hopefully there'll be more of that during the next arc.
anyways so like. the chapter itself is not necessarily bad i just think that the CG itself was really abrupt and lacked a lot emotionally/character wise (for me at least), and then the pacing of this whole thing has been really off for me so its hard to look at the whole thing collectively and actually like it lol.
i feel like gege is really just trying to speedrun the rest of the manga and move onto something else which SUCKS bc it has soo much potential to be sooooo good. whatever anyways goodnight.

...long time no see. 
I actually did start writing this a month ago, but it took a bit to get my brain back in the right place after so long away. BUT I’M BACK hi.

Even though I do think Isidro is meant to evoke Guts he’s obviously not a 1-to-1 comparison, like he’s much more of a chaos imp than Guts ever was. Also he’s scrawny – I do wonder if he should focus more on ranged combat given how good he is with missile attacks. This doesn’t matter at all, but I’m warming up, lmao.

One of the things Miura talked about when he discussed the reason for the reaction for whatever such and such a character was this idea of designing characters to bring out different shades of Guts in order to make him a more multidimensional character. I think this is something he really excelled at – it’s interesting to see his more mentorly side coming out, not to mention the difference between the way Guts treats Isidro and, say, the way Gambino treated him does highlight Guts’ generally better... nature. 
And that’s interesting because I’ve talked a lot before about how post-Eclipse (and pre-meeting Griffith) Guts had taken on a lot of Gambino’s traits and attitudes... which is arguably not the best way to navigate the world. But that’s a side of him that comes out mostly when he’s alone and frustrated – when he’s a kid on the road, for example, or after the Eclipse but before meeting Puck. Which is to say, it’s a self-defense mechanism for when he feels lost or angry and lonely without a lot of outlet. When he has people around he chills out considerably, which makes his attempts at being a lone wolf feel a little self-destructive.

I just love how Guts is completely disinterested unless there’s some kind of fight involved. More than that, though, as a pretty straightforward person I suppose he doesn’t have a lot of interest in interacting with people who are wearing a civil mask and carrying ulterior motives.

As for Serpico, it must be odd watching her change so quickly and so completely. This is the beginning of a longer subplot with him watching being weirded out by it and I guess kind of jealous and kind of saddened that Guts and their companions were able to change Farnese in ways he was unable to and thus make her a much healthier and less troubled person.

Okay so as a sidenote, I do really get tired of this. I understand that Casca and Farnese are the most helpless in the group, but the thing where they are constantly the ones targeted for danger is a little meh. You could argue that in the case of trolls it makes sense – given what we later learn about their actions and breeding habits – but it’s still repetitive because they end up being swept up and pulled into troll haven or whatever together again in the future, so like maybe a different plot point? Like the trolls’ presence could have been announced with a battle scene and then Casca and Farnese could have been separated from the group later without eliciting a kind of “oh this again?” type of response, I’m just saying. 
Anyway, you know the deal, me and fight scenes are like, eh.

The introduction of magic definitely changed the tone of Berserk. Miura did mention that he made it difficult to manage and slow to start up for balance reasons, and I do think the balance has been largely maintained but it obviously did change the scale of the series and the battles – same with the Berserker armor, for example. This isn’t actually a problem for me in theory but I think the one thing I wish he had done is... I guess better foreshadow the existence of all these things, right? 
Like I don’t expect him to have witches in the BSM arc for example – he hadn’t even thought of it yet, he didn’t even know what the main conflict of the story would be until volume 3. But it would have been cool to have more of a buildup leading into Flora and Schierke’s introduction. 
Anyway it doesn’t bother me that much, it’s more like the existence of the Hawk prophecies – a missed opportunity that was probably missed just because he hadn’t thought of it yet.

I wonder if Ivalera is going to like, make more of an impact on me during this readthrough. Because honestly, this is volume 24 right? She’s been with them for almost 20 volumes, and I never remember that she exists.

Ah, Schierke. It’s almost fitting that the kind of lighter/less grim tone came in with her because the anime vibes kind of did, too – green hair and all that. I should clarify that I don’t actually mind the lighter tone or the magic or anything, I just think it’s interesting how quickly Berserk went from like grim gritty low fantasy that borders on horror to like epic fantasy adventures. This arc is kind of a transitional point since the trolls are very old Berserk, but obviously the introduction of Schierke and Ivalera really bridge into new Berserk.

Okay this is a little bit of a tangent, but it’s something I was just thinking about today. 
So Casca is, for me, uhh... so many a series has a character in it that’s like a major part of the story but you just can’t warm to them and kinda wish they weren’t there because they feel kind of like baggage. That’s how I feel about Post-Eclipse Casca. Like during the Golden Age she served a narrative purpose right, she’s a foil for Guts and then his love interest and then one of his greatest losses. Cool. 
Post-Eclipse though I’m just not sure. Don’t get me wrong, I know she’s involved in the story, like half the story is about getting her to Elfhelm. But – and im not sure whether I can articulate this properly but I’m trying – I feel like even though the story revolves around her, she is nonetheless an extra appendage to the plot. She’s a MacGuffin. Her existence causes people to run around trying to do things but she herself is not involved in those things or even really important to them and there’s no purpose she serves in the story that couldn’t be served by something else without much of a change to the core of the plot. 
Guts could get to Conviction any way – he could just go there because of the revelation from Griffith, he could get dragged there by Farnese and then escape, he could just be led there by fate – there’s nothing inherent to the Conviction arc that requires him to be chasing Casca. You could say her biggest contribution to the plot post-Eclipse is as a Griffith-obsession-meter, like if he doesn’t care about her, then he’s in full Griffith-fixation mode, and if he’s focused on protecting her, his Griffith obsession is waning. 
I don’t know. There is a large part of the fanbase (most of it in the English speaker quarter, in fact) that perceives her as the third protagonist and really puts a narrative weight on her but I honestly think it’s mostly headcanon and cope, lmao. She’s a MacGuffin. 
Anyway the reason this section kinda set me off on it is because Casca gets kidnapped or spirited off to Trollhaven twice in this one arc, and she was sexually assaulted twice since Conviction, and she was sexually assaulted and pushed around and used as a MacGuffin for most of Conviction and while this is somewhat true of Farnese as well at this point (the troll thing anyway)... Farnese then becomes a much more formidable person under her own power whereas Casca languishes, gets her memory back, has multiple unconsciousness-inducing flashbacks and then gets kidnapped. 
Hmm, I guess the gist of this rant is just “Casca is a character Miura randomly decided to hook up with Guts for drama and then kept around so that Guts would stay mad, and it shows.” 
And of course it helps that Casca ends up spending more time with Farnese than Guts so that relationship isn’t’ really emphasized very much outside of a “what is she to you? Oooohh I think I know....” comment every like 8 real world years. 
Anyway if she turns out to be crucial in a way that is unique to her later, I’ll be relieved but for now I’m eh.

So one of the things I really enjoy about Berserk is this feeling that Griffith’s presence, or even the promise of his arrival, inherently changes the world. Before the Eclipse, apostles became more active, and after it they were obviously more present than they had bene before. And after Griffith’s reincarnation, the barrier between the physical and the astral planes start to blur a bit, bringing the monsters out and strengthening the magical gifts of people like Sonia. His presence is such that he changes the world simply by being there... in various ways. Obviously things like bringing the trolls into the world aren’t great, lmao.

Establishment shot! I’m sort of fascinated by Flora’s mansion if only because it doesn’t actually exist in the physical world.

Now that I’ve gone into that whole rant about Casca, I will take a moment to say it’d be cool if there turned out to be a reason she randomly went digging in the golem – an instinct through her connection to the Moonkid/Griffith, maybe, or just an instinct in general. It’s not something I expect to come up, to be clear – she’s probably just being a curious child since she’s mentally a toddler. But you know, wishful thinking.
This image really sent me off on a death spiral into one of my more obscure theories, which I’m not going to talk about because I hate being wrong about things I’m not ready to be wrong about. But anyway I did look a bit into the meaning of the pentagram which told me... first of all that the use of the pentagram seems to precede any of the meanings we know to ascribe to it, which make sense. But also, that the points of the pentagram represent either the wounds of Christ, the senses, or five elements.

This sent me into a rabbit hole of reading up on elements as understood in different cultures. What I found interesting was like, it seems most places (most) have the same four elements we still talk about today at least to some degree (like it might be wind instead of air, but you know), but there’s sometimes a fifth thing – spirit or heart, for example, in the case of neoplatonic elements, or void/emptiness for Japanese philosophy. 
And then I thought about the way Miura liked to combine the philosophies and religious tenants from different cultures instead of trying to fully replicate a specific perspective in his work. Rather the cosmology of Berserk is a little bit of everything, you know? Which made me think... considering the fifth element in Berserk’s world to be Spirit or Emptiness works very well with the way Berserk is set up but it also tends to imply that there’s a fifth elemental lord, unless the joke is that the element is emptiness so the spot for the lord is empty. I’ll probably yada yada more about this when I get to Schierke’s spell in the village because she does say something interesting that I think bears commentary. 
But the way Miura repeatedly put the pentagram in a prominent position  - even having a whole panel that was nothing but the pentagram, strikes me as interesting and significant.

But one of the things is this: I believe that all religions in Berserk are faces for the same underlying powers – IoE and the Godhand (and perhaps some other servants who fulfill different functions but we don’t know about that). It explains why the old Godhand look like ancient gods, and it explains why Flora triggers Guts’ brand, which is supposed to react to demonic power. Because in the end, she’s still drawing from the same well but in a different way.

It’s interesting that Flora seems to know she’s going to die soon. I know that you could interpret it as her knowing that she is just getting too old and weak, but considering she tells Schierke that they’ll meet again, which refers to the Casca’s Mindscape sequence 30+ volumes later, I assume she has some kind of plug into the future, albeit in a limited way. Skull Knight seems to be similar.

After this Guts says, “It’ll protect against that” with the image of his beast self raping/killing Casca. Which makes me think this scene fuels people’s assertion that he was possessed when he did that, which he wasn’t. But I do think the possessions prior kind of kicked him in that direction and he was unable to extricate himself from it until he was made violently aware of his own dark side and how dangerous it was. 
Okay so now we’re going to talk worldbuilding, its my favorite thing.

 Okay so, I’m just going to break this down into a form I can better reference, rofl.
The Astral plane is, as Griffith would say, where they become one – the afterlife, and also the home of supernatural forces and beings. When someone senses/believes in something that is technically part of the astral world hard enough the thing becomes visible in the physical world, which is why elves have become recognized in the physical world. Later we’ll find out that the astral world’s... stuff used to be a much greater part of the physical world but started disappearing from the physical realm as people drifted from the perspectives that allowed them to be perceived, which continues right up until Griffith brings them back together. 
Then the Realm of Idea (the graphic misnames it) is... it kind of reminds me of the concept of the Root in the Fate franchise (and also several actual world religions nevermind that though). The origin of all existence, the blueprint of reality. 
And subrealms: 
Physical Realm – where people usually are. 
Interstice – a shallow level of the Astral Plane that mostly just looks like the physical realm. This is where Guts and Casca are because of the brand. Also where things like ghosts come from when they haven’t realized or accepted their deaths and headed back to the Vortex. 
Nexus – a deeper part of the Astral and the space opened by the Behelit/location of the Sacrifice ceremonies. This is interesting to me because Miura once said that in order to injure an astral body, the person trying to injure them has to be in the astral plane as well. Which brings to mind the arguments over whether the Godhand can actually be hurt – people say they must be mortal to some degree because they protect their bodies – e.g Void deflects Skull Knight’s blow and the only time Femto ever defends himself vs Guts is during the BSM arc when the Slug Count uses the behelit to bring the Godhand out.  But it makes sense that they defend themselves during Eclipses or Sacrifice ceremonies because during those moments, the entire area is sucked into the Nexus, which means they can be injured in ways they cant be if they’re just walking around on the physical world. Thus, for example, the impossibility of injuring Griffith in the physical world. 
The Vortex – A deeper level of the Astral Plane where the megapowers are, e.g. the Godhand, the Element Kings etc. The sea god from the pirate arc, like that. 
The Abyss – where the Idea of Evil hangs out.

This page is often cited as proof that there is a heaven and hell, but Flora really is just engaging in conjecture. That said, it does seem like there are places that are more or less pleasant within the astral plane, at least on lower levels like the Interstice, so I suppose its possible that they exist in the Vortex as well. This is one of the areas where I’m the most conflicted because there’s a pretty strong indication that post-death humans lose their sense of self and join the sea of souls where no one has any individuality or identity, but there’s also this comment about karma and such. Plus we do know that some humans do not just melt into the  vortex because Flora herself instead became a Daimon although we don’t find that out for a long time. 
Right now, I’m sort of operating with the idea that post-death a person retains a sense of self for a certain period of time, during which their experience is dictated by their karma, before they eventually break apart and join the sea. But that’s just a fan wank it’s really an unknown at this time.

This comment is interesting because it brings to mind Schierke’s later comment that the four elemental kings are the same beings that are named in scripture as the four cardinal angels of God. As I said earlier, all religions are one religion.

What did I say the other day? Even witches refer to Griffith as an angel. This kind of burns my bum because people focus on the demon thing very strongly and tend to either ignore the other side of them or suggest that they’re not really angels but are pretending to be – I think Guts even suggests that at one point. But Guts is biased and Flora would know better than he does.

Not for nothing but Guts is being stupid here. Not too surprising, but like what is he going to do, summon them and launch himself at them? They’d crush him like a bug without moving. Come on, man. 
But in all seriousness, Guts’ absolute faith in his ability to find a way to win is one of my favorite things about him, but it’s also what leads to him having a mental breakdown when he cant hit Griffith later. I don’t think he’s ever considered the possibility that there’s something he can’t fight his way through. 
This also confirms, btw, that Guts hasn’t given up on revenge just put it on hold until he can get Casca to Elfhelm. Otherwise why would he still be trying to figure out how to get at the Godhand? It’s also the best indication that he isn’t only angry at Griffith but at the entire group of them. I assume it’s not dissimilar to the way Skull Knight runs straight at Void if he’s there, but he wont turn down an opportunity to throw a blow at any of them.

So, one of the things that fuels speculation that Casca might be destined to use that Behelit is that... when it comes out, and they’re talking about it, she seems to be drawn to it for no real reason, right, like she just comes walking toward them making interested noises and Farnese has to pull her away. 
The obvious counter would be that she comes out because Flora is about to talk about her and Guts’ mission to protect her, but she didn’t really need to be there for that – people talk about Casca and Guts’ relationship or his intentions with regards to her without her being there all the time. 
It’s interesting. It doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but given Miura’s ways it wouldn’t surprise me if it did.

But really she doesn’t seem to be trying to tell him to give it up, which doesn’t surprise me – she’s a friend of Skull Knight’s, so I’m sure she understands how pointless arguing with someone in this situation can be.

“The fate associated with it rests in the hands of its master who sent it.” I assume that’s IoE but it does highlight the fact that Slan seemed to be able to affect its reaction/availability to Guts.

When I try to figure out who the behelit might belong to, though, I admit I have a kind of difficult time imagining who it could be aside from Casca or Guts. If it’s Guts, then I would expect it’s there for him to ultimately resist, thus finally breaking the chains of fate that he’s been fighting but accidentally getting further caught in for years. If it’s Casca, on the other hand, I think that ends badly for her. There’s a small chance that such an option could appear for her to give her the chance to turn it down as well, but I’m not sure I believe that she has it in her. 
I also can’t think of anyone else that the behelit would really fit in a way that advances the story/moves toward the fulfillment of the narrative promise, really. So I still think the best bet is Casca, though that doesn’t guarantee it obviously. If it’s Guts, on the other hand... well, I guess he’s craving his power right now, isn’t he? I mean in current chapters.

But no, I gather she means that they’re the servants of the Idea of Evil (unnamed but still), and that they’re mysteries because humans can’t go to where they are, even in astral form, thus they remain mysterious.

Okay translation rant. I wanted to make sure that “If he is the Hawk of Darkness, then he is dreadful” was actually accurate, which it is KIND OF? 
What Schierke is saying is 
あの者が黙示録に記された五番目の御使いが受肉した姿。。。闇の鷹なのだとしたら者恐るべきことです。
That person is the [incarnated form] of the fifth angel written down in the [Book of Revelation]. If (he’s) the Hawk of Darkness he is.... [dreadful] 
So a couple of things. I’m showing dictionary definitions because it’s good to show receipts, lmao. 
-The word translated as incarnation is specifically the incarnation of Christ.

-The word used for revelation is specifically the Book of Revelation, though it also means Apocalypse – Utena fans may remember it:

-Finally, the phrase translated here as “dreadful”,

So it does mean dreadful but also fearsome, formidable, like a dangerous or difficult adversary. 
So okay one thing I notice about Miura is that he liked to use ambiguous phrasing – the phrase translated as “you’re the only one who made me forget my dream” for example, also means “you’re the only one who let me forget my dream.” Similarly, the word translated as “evil” in a lot of places in Berserk also means “magic” or a supernatural force of some kind, and sometimes it makes more sense that they’d mean magic but the translation still says evil. 
I’ll be honest, I think he did it on purpose. Because for example a sentence that means both “let me forget” and “made me forget” reflects the conflict within Griffith himself about Guts’ impact on him and how it affected his goals, which were both burdensome and meant to be his most important thing. So in the discussion of which way it was intended to be read, my main thought is “both.” 
How this relates to this sentence is just this: It’s translated as dreadful which isn’t inaccurate but in the context of the discussion Schierke and Flora are having, Schierke isn’t talking about how awful and deplorable the fifth angel is, she’s talking about how Guts has to be crazy to go against him because he’s absurdly powerful. But that doesn’t mean I don’t think her statement is meant to evoke how terrifying he is, either. But even so, and this isn’t the translator’s fault because English doesn’t work the same way Japanese does, but... I can’t help thinking that just saying “dreadful” makes it sound like she’s just saying “he’s awful and deplorable” rather than that he’s a frightening opponent or person. And that doesn’t make sense because Schierke was previously shown to be sort of unsure about whether he would be the savior or (something) else. 
It’s also interesting that he doesn’t name some random prophecy but rather the biblical Book of Revelation. And that he didn’t have Schierke refer to Griffith with a normal “incarnation” or “bodied form” or whatever – because there are words for that – but rather as specifically the incarnation of Christ. It does make it very clear (VERY clear) that Griffith here is envisioned as the Berserk equivalent of a Christ-figure as predicted by the Berserk equivalent of the Bible. The fact that he’s served by, you know, apostles should also be a clue about this, but I know people like to suggest he’s an antichrist instead, but I mean... 
He’s both isn’t he? I mean I know I’ve talked about this enough but it does make sense that in a world where God is the Idea of Evil, the Christ-equivalent would be a more complicated figure as well. 
I just think it’s interesting like... Miura uses a lot of Catholic concepts and imagery in Berserk, but they don’t always mean the same thing as they do in the real-world religion. People often try to read Berserk with I guess real world Christianity in mind, and I get it because of the very obvious parallels, but I do think it’s a bit of a trap.

The thing I wonder a lot – although I guess it’s more like I think about it a lot than that I wonder about it – is the relationship between Skull Knight and Flora. Later I’ll ponder on it in greater depth but it’s interesting to me that even after seeing what happened to Gaiseric she still has this belief that fate can be countered. It’s very different than, say, Skull Knight who kind of lets slip during the death of Elfhelm that fate often cannot be overcome, but that people fight anyway because it’s just the nature of humanity to fight fate (and lose). 
Flora’s view echoes Guts’ though, from the Conviction arc when he said he doesn’t believe in causality because he and Casca were meant to die but didn’t. On the other hand... is that really true? Like, Zodd said death would come for him – a death he cannot escape. But Skull Knight was the one who implied to him (right after he left the Hawks) that he could survive it. And if you think about it, given that the demon child/moonkid became Griffith’s vessel there’s a good argument that Casca was always meant to survive, too. 
So. I know a lot of people take Flora’s word as gospel, but a lot of characters say things that contradict so they can’t all be right. Though I do think there’s a decent argument that she’s the least biased and her view possibly reflects the attitude that Miura himself brought to the table since he did say he wanted there to be hope in the story, as well.

I have such conflicted feelings about how Farnese and Casca just got some silver shirts (and a silver knife). Because the thing is, I understand that Casca uh probably can’t trusted with a weapon right now, and that Farnese isn’t a fighter at all. But I still feel like some kind of, say, elementally empowered weapon would be helpful for Farnese at least, considering how often these two get kidnapped or spirited away or trapped in dangerous situations.

This lead in to the thing where his sword is kind of magical from fighting magical things is pretty interesting to me because... for years the theory was that his sword could hurt Griffith because of that. And it seemed like a decent theory but of course is proven completely wrong on every level. Misdirection! That is, unless the “he cut a hair off of Griffith’s head” theory turns out to be true but that seems increasingly unlikely since it hasn’t come up at all.

By having the brand, Guts and Casca are basically just walking around in the afterlife all the time – at least the edges of it, so I guess they ended up in tune with the dead even though they themselves didn’t literally die. It seems the Apostles also kind of walk that line, which makes sense given their connection to “hell” or whatever. It’s kind of wild to think about the house they’re hanging around in not technically existing in a physical sense.

I mean in fairness he only left her behind once, it was just a really long time. 
Anyway, this just reminds me of the time I got that Ask from someone kind of ranting about how Guts has to be with Casca because she’s the only reason he’s still human, which was kind of stupid. Don’t get me wrong, I recognize that protecting her is a strong motivating factor for him, but obviously he was already fighting to remain human for the entire series and I also think... the path he has chosen as a defender and as someone who no longer throws his connections away is as much a part of his continued humanity as Casca herself, specifically – that’s why the Beast always tells him to ditch the whole crew not just Casca. 
Also, as I recall, Flora had some knowledge that she was going to be killed soon which... I imagine made it somewhat relieving for her to not have to explain why Casca couldn’t stay there. Also...

Okay so... I often wonder about the specifics of Flora and Skull Knight’s relationship... and to be more specific whether her role in his life was similar to Schierke’s role in Guts’ life. Was she his spiritual anchor before he got eaten by the darkness? If so then you could say she failed, which Schierke is also in danger of doing in current canon since Guts is losing his shit. 
There are so many things that make me sad about Miura’s passing. There’s the obvious human element in itself, but there’s also things like how he talked about doing an arc of the Skull Knight’s history, and how on the DVD for the memorial edition ova, a note came up saying things he says may no longer be applicable. I mean for obvious reasons. But does that mean we’ll never know the deal? I hope not. I want to know what Flora did that got her exiled from Elfhelm and what Skull Knight’s goal really is... I mean this is whiny because everyone has the same concerns and thoughts, but you know, just thinking.

And there it is – bringing to question whether Guts is actually acting in free will or not. Because what I get from this is that Flora asks him why he’s trying to get Guts to do certain things or go certain places, and whether it’s because he feels sympathetic or for some selfish reason, and Skull Knight is basically like, even if I didn’t personally lead him around, he may well be led by causality anyway. 
It reminds me of the guidebook noting that Skull Knight seemed to be trying to lead Guts in a certain direction.
I think Skull Knight is ultimately meant to be a cautionary tale for Guts, like... this is what he becomes if he doesn’t let go of his anger and choose his connections and humanity instead... which is not what Gaiseric did back in the day. This does kind of make me wonder to what degree I just talk myself around thinking Guts primarily relies on Casca for humanity though, because one major difference between them seems to be that Casca didn’t die but Skull Knight’s wife or whoever that was did. 
Although I guess that’s odd too because Dannan seems to be his ex in some way that isn’t wholly literal.

And this is a really interesting bit for me, because it’s Flora continuing/finishing her comment earlier about God giving them fate – the fate called encounters. So when she tells Schierke God gives us fate and we humans choose it, you can suppose that she isn’t so much talking about Schierke being destined to do such and such but rather she’s talking about Schierke having the option to accept the opportunity to know and involve herself in this story or not. 
Also, a final little thought-break – the way the witches here talk about God is interesting to me because it does seem like they buy into the “religion” of the world in a way you wouldn’t necessarily expect, right, like Flora directly references fate being sent by God. They also refer to the God Hand as angels, and later Schierke will explain that the element kings are basically biblical archangels by another name. 
And that goes back to all religions are one religion – the same elements with different names and viewed through different prisms but nonetheless the same beings. I kind of think of the different religions within Berserk’s world as... looking at something from one angle vs another angle. Like if you stand in front of something it looks one way and you can only see the front and part of the sides, whereas if you stand to the side you see its side and only part of its front and back, etc. Point being, it’s still the same thing, it’s just that different perspectives or belief systems “see” and name different parts of it. 
That thought leads me down some interesting rabbit holes with Berserk though.

So Freddy can go Nightmare and Foxy can detect ghosts and other things. We know Bonnie has super hearing while Chica's great with cooking but can they do any weird Magic Things too? Or are they on the more normal side of animatronics (as much as they can be)? I mean, it would make an interesting balance.
I gotta list of general powers and stuffs in my notes, all the way back from Devil's Spine and Ghost Strings :D This list also includes Goldy since I hadn't set a ton of rules inline for him until I saw down to work on DS. I've scanned it and it looks all good. Max and Scrap's are on my work pc, like I said these are oooold notes from 2015 >>;
Buuut they've got the general feel for what I wanted to portray over the fics...years lmao.
Freddy Fazbear: Leader, especially when Goldy's not around or on the floor. This natural commanding force even keeps many human employees in line--or perhaps they're just too scared to start shit around him. Arguably the only one who can get Bonnie to take things seriously which is a priceless skill all it's own. Nightmare mode includes the irksome trio of Fredlets, although he cannot maintain this form in the real world, just the Crying Child's/Limbo. His 'camouflage' helps Nightmare ignore him/assume he's part of the world.
Sturdy, excellent strength and medium stamina. Not terribly fast, and can be clumsy in tight maneuvers. Freddy's the one you can out run, but know he'll have the others attention at the snap of a finger to chase you down.
Bonnie the bunny: Those ears ain't just for show! Bonnie excels at seeing without his eyes--due to his time as Withered Bonnie, where he had to really master his sonar and mapping skills to survive in the second restaurant. Bonnie is a quick-thinker, only his limp slows him down. He follows Freddy loyally, and always moves first in a situation, not unlike a scout that will report back. His dim reactions to light does mean he can have a light in his face and stay focused--and not lose you in his cameras, since they go off sounds, not sight.
Not very sturdy, his limp is a liability if you know which knee to go at. He's more flexible than Freddy though, and despite his joint slowing him down he can shuffle quickly when need be. Bonnie is typically the one making noise so that you're focused on him...and not looking behind you as someone else creeps up.
Chica the chicken: Her delicate wrist joins and crafted endoskeleton under her suit makes her stand out amongst her brothers. She also comes with Cakey, who can act as a second set of eyes wirelessly when in range and show her another angle of a situation. Without her special equipment, she shares some of Freddy's heavy set similarities. She likes moving after/with her bunny brother though.
Similar to Bonnie minus the limp. It's arguable her complex wrists do limit her--she's fearful of straining them, or struggling prey ruining them. Flexible but more studious than reactive Bonnie. Her eyesight is also much better than Bonnie's in terms of far-sight.
Foxy the pirate: Foxy was haunted by an older spirit--teenager or not. He's just as sensitive to bright lights as he is to spiritual fluctuations and appearances. He often 'sniffs' the air, pricking his ears and turning until he narrows in on the strange electrical scent he swears by. He's so good, even the Marionette, Springtrap (Afton) and Goldy have trouble masking themselves from his attuned sixth sense.
Incredibly, dangerously fast moving. He often tosses the concept of surprise out of the window, unable to do sneak attacks like Freddy and instead plowing forward into a situation and attacking the first enemy that presents itself. It's unknown if Alexander taught him this, or Foxy picked it up himself. You can't over power Freddy, and you can't out run Foxy.
The Marionette: The Gift Giver, able to anchor deceased souls to items to house them. Horror incarnate. Likes being a string puller, not a doer unless his hand is forced. He's a powerful being charged by the intense, emotional spirit of the Crying Child, with little regard to others and their needs/opinions, often being outwardly selfish but hides under the guise of protecting the restaurant. Has 5 strings normally, but can make extras, up to five on each limb. They can stretch as far as 30 feet, as can his arms. Can teleport, move things with telekinesis, and connects closed, box shaped things with his box, creating small portals to move items around where he wants them. For example, a pen dropped into his box can show up in the desk drawer in the Office. Can shift between his normal form and Nightmaronnie regardless of his setting, whose strings are replaced with snake like stripped appendages with pointed tips.
Although creepy and off-putting, he is the smallest animatronic by a LOT, and made of brittle wood and porcelain. His speed and quick thinking are his biggest assets, and he's most fluid of the animatronics, able to fit himself in tight spaces in hiding or pursuit. His music box will put him to sleep, and he can be trapped in crates that mimic his box.
Fredbear/Goldy: The lead bear, head honcho. He carries a creator-given string of coding that all other newer animatronics created by the company will instinctively bend to. (Some can fight, but it takes effort and Goldy has plenty of stamina to make them crumple under him. Afton has tried countless times to combat this, with mixed results but never perfection.) He can control any animatronic if given enough time to interface with them. This and the following are automatically granted to the Suit he wears to hide in the day time.
Incredibly, unearthly strength. Primary ideas of attack are punching or biting, his jaws retained their powerful force. Immense stamina, erasing the need for average sleep, his Suits can subsist on much less for much longer. Electricity manipulation and control, the ability to siphon energy from batteries/even other Animatronics and convert to ghostly power. Requires tons of raw material to stay powered, turning a human Suit into a bottomless pit. Limited telekinesis, not a range as big as Marionette but works well enough. Heightened senses, mostly on eyesight and the sixth sense of seeking fellow ghosts and animatronics. Mind sharing--can communicate with his Suit to create more complex plans, since Fredbear is typically fine with asserting his domination instead of working things out through talking.
Regeneration, and self healing. He's been know to fix organs, reset bones, and alter physique to create a stronger Suit to live in. He favors speed over perfection, causing rough scars to appear on both himself and the Suit. And though it may be uncomfortable, the Suit will never know Death or human limitations until they part ways...what happens after is anyone's guess.
Goldy is meant to be top dog in the series but has his limits. He's such a smothering, overpowering force that many humans cannot house him for long without their souls being snuffed out or engulfed by accident. Too much anger echoed between Goldy and his Suit, and he will transform into the cruel, incensed and devastating Nightmare Fredbear, incapable of seeing reason and hungry for blood and revenge when he feels wronged.

so ultimately I really enjoyed season 5 as a whole and think it might be my new favorite season of ml in general since most episode were bangers and the finale eps weren't really any different lmao
but there's two elements that - like other folks I've seen - are kinda bugging me and bog it down a good bit I feel and I kinda wanna ramble about em. ml spoilers below (no salt tho I am complaining somewhat)
the first thing was something I'd caught a glimpse of just before I passed out last night thanks to some lovely blogging from a few mutuals and that I caught onto midway thru the second part of the finale and that is of course the weird attempt at seemingly redeeming? Gabriel in some capacity
now of course he's not at all redeemed to us, the audience, and it doesn't feel like a redemption so much as like. absolving him? but either way like....why at all? 5 seasons (2 specials and a video game too) across like 8 years I feel sorta showed that the guy legit could not be redeemed, especially S5 itself with multiple instances of him doing just. unforgivably heinous things to everyone including that son of his he kept talking about protecting and like for a time in the show maybe I could have seen that path where he was genuinely doing this to improve Adrien's life but that was tossed a long time ago lmao, he's actively tormented Adrien more than anything and that's without factoring in his beatings of Chat Noir, threats towards Marinette, etc.
Gabriel sacrificing himself at the end was something I sorta always knew was coming bc nothing else really made sense. no way he'd go to jail, he couldn't just be absolved of all he'd done and there was no real other option and yet they tried to absolve him anyway?? not to mention how little sense I feel it makes for Adrien to believe this in the least after even just the last few episodes, let alone the season and then some
Paris in general treating Gabriel like a hero sucks - most of the class at least should know better - and while I think there's a chance it'll lead to some juicy drama between Marinette knowing the truth and Lila knowing what she knows, one of them feels bound to take it to Adrien, I'm concerned it'll just be a flat point never to be addressed again
now I've often felt the show is more clever than ppl give it credit for but idk. something about it just feels weird and wrong and not just bc of what it is on the surface - Marinette building a lie into her relationship with Adrien is fascinating and it should absolutely come up in the future, but I'm worried it won't
and the reason I'm worried is bc of how Adrien was handled in the finale - in that he wasn't really handled at all
I understand that the story had him locked up in a cube, I get that he was purposefully tossed aside by that same father he supposedly believes is heroic now but like....why did we get nothing from him past him forfeiting the ring? why did he give up so easily? why was he a total nonentity in the finale of what is, essentially, his arc? in this story that has the most bearing on Adrien, Adrien himself was just....gone for most of it, arguably all of it
I feel like it flies counter to a lot of what the show's been doing especially lately with him in how Adrien is basically stripped of any and all agency by the end of the finale and honestly I hate it lol. him having no say on anything, no knowledge of anything or any real reaction to....anything that happened. we don't see him really react to the lie of what his father did, to Nathalie being returned to health or to the mysterious blonde woman at the pool who may or may not be his actual mom (the storyboards and deleted scene apparently confirm it was, at least, at some point), we don't even see him get his ring back. like I wasn't expecting a reveal at this point - I don't think we're gonna get one tbh - but....nothing??
which is part of why I feel the stuff at the end with him and Marinette in the garden - while very nice and cathartic after 8 years of watching - felt so off, almost hollow. Adrien didn't really get to be a character in the finale and just sort of reappears to finally kiss Marinette again? that's it? he's all smiles and sunshine again after being genuinely, undeniably tortured by his father that he again somehow believes is heroic in some manner? huh??
I think I'd feel better about things if we at least got his reaction to things - if he somehow rolled up on his destroyed house or found Nathalie walking around under her own power or w/e but there's just nothing. like he's an action figure that got lost under the bed for a bit. and again there's a chance we get some of that next season but like, not only do I think we shouldn't have to but I also see it as less likely than the Gabe stuff proving to be a plotline since that feels much more like a lingering presence that sorta needs to be dealt with and honestly Tomoe needs to be dealt with too idk how Kagami could ever go back to her after this
which really has me excited about season 6 more than I was - I admittedly kinda groaned when they revealed there'd be more seasons since I knew about the 5 season arc (especially since main villain Lila did not interest me in the least at the time lol, and still kinda doesn't tbh) but if I'd sorta softened on the decision across the last few years, I've fully turned around with this - so long as they address some of this stuff going forward at least bc I feel like if nothing else there's some really juicy drama and story potential in the Gabriel lie coming undone
ultimately again I loved this season and felt the finale was appropriately crazy - the kwamis in their ultimate forms, Gimmi's appearance, Bug Noir and the fight across the mansion, it all worked really well imo and there was a lot of payoff still in the finale even if I feel they didn't really stick the landing with a couple of rough edges and odds and ends hanging out
I also wanna say that I kinda like the ideas I've seen floating around about how the epilogue might not be what it seems - that Gabriel's wish wasn't so pure in nature, it kinda fits him to warp reality in just such a way after all but idk if that's what's going on here for sure yet. think it'd make a really cool twist if that evil AU special thingy came straight off of this tho, or if we got midway thru S6 and it's like, oh dang we're living a total fabrication!! I love stuff like that lol
also also ngl I am not excited about the whole team being back at all in any capacity lol. think a smaller team - which would now be Ladybug, Chat, Carapace, Rena, Ryuko and Argos maybe - just works better
also also also - addendum that ties into the Adrien stuff - it feels really weird that Chat Noir wasn't present at all during Monarch's defeat right? like. idk that just doesn't sit well with me, like he should have had some impact there, some role. maybe he could have broken out and given Ladybug the ring himself (albeit in a mask or something) or done literally anything. idk. really weird

I think he liked that someone from Kinn chose him, it seems I'm the only one who thinks that he would have married Tawan and had him as a trophy husband if his ridiculous plan to be the head of the family worked, because he thinks that in reality his dad would accept that he was gay. But I don't think she was in love with him either.

Thank you for the ask! I’m definitely exploiting it to give my over analysis of their relationship (sorry).
Let me just say with this pairing my reaction is first and foremost Thanks, I hate it.
I think you’re totally right though when it comes to Vegas liking that someone tied to the major family chose him. I think he revels in the fact that Tawan chose him and was willing to betray Kinn for Vegas, even if Tawan is unstable and likely not a reliable partner when it comes to complete loyalty. Ultimately, I think that Vegas wants to be seen as smarter, better, faster, stronger than Kinn.
I agree with you he totally would’ve kept Tawan as a husband (partially as a trophy husband because of Kinn) but I think there’s also a lot to unpack there.
So here stops the part where I’m directly responding to your ask, and starts the part where I devolve into my own disastrous meta.
I want to say that I don’t think Vegas feels true, undying, selfless, disney princess love for Tawan. But I do think he genuinely cares for him and on some level loves him. Which is terrifying, because he’s capable of a very twisted, corrupted type of love. And we see what he’s willing to do even when he knows what those emotions are (ex. Using love against Kinn even though Vegas would know what that feels like).
There are a few things that I think point to Vegas’ love for Tawan in the first scene where they reveal the plot mostly that Vegas reassures Tawan that he doesn’t feel anything for Porsche and the fact that he tolerates Tawan hugging him in front of everyone (until he throws a temper tantrum) even though he clearly doesn’t want to be seen being hugged.
The thing for me that makes me think some of Vegas’ feelings were genuine were when he shot Tawan (oohh this show has skewed perceptions of love lmao). Vegas took the time to make Tawan feel comfortable and loved before he shot him. He says thanks for putting up with me, which seems like gratitude for Tawn’s love in this case. It’s admitting a flaw, which for someone like Vegas doesn’t seem like something he would do even when he’s manipulating someone. We see him give the Italian mafia leader a similar pause before death, but again that was in some ways a sign of respect due to his position. Arguably, it could just be a Vegas’ likes to be dramatic before killing people thing, but I think in the case of the mafia leader it was a sign of respect because of his position and ultimately might be a sign of respect for Tawan here too.
Most importantly, VEGAS KNEW HE WAS WEARING A BULLET PROOF VEST AND STILL SHOT HIM IN THE CHEST! Like he had just been hugged by this man and very clearly would have felt the vest. And Vegas, trained killer and torture enjoyer, chose to shoot him in the chest not in any other part of the body. I don’t think he really wanted to kill Tawan even if he was ready to abandon him.
Lastly, and this is me grasping at straws and having read one too many theories for multiple fandoms, the mirror scene with the engagement. It’s possible that mirrors represent Vegas’ true self (and we won’t get into THAT metaphor). The only other time we see Vegas in front of a mirror is his creepy little dungeon scene after he attempts to assault Porsche. And he’s happy in that scene, he’s truly just being him. In a demented, creepy, way but still being him. It’s the first time we really see Vegas as Vegas. Then we have the engagement scene framed in a mirror. We see Vegas (narcissistically) staring at himself in a mirror again, but then Tawan comes up and he doesn’t move. We get to see a more honest side of him where he’s talking about loving Tawan while looking himself in the eye. That whole lying to yourself and everything. I’m still not sure on my feelings on it and I would probably have to rewatch the scene a couple of times to really know my feelings but that’s what my general overview is.
I think the father accepting them was more about Vegas than it was about Tawan. I’m guessing it is because Vegas is queer (which could lead into resentment of the major family being more accepting/less horrible), and wanting his father to accept who he is and who he loves. But it could also have been because of Tawan’s ties to the major family and Vegas wanting his father to see him as a leader who can take down (Kinn) and take over (Tawan) the major family. There’s probably a lot more to unpack there but that’s my initial thought.

Adonis: [a noise that very much means yeah because they were slags back in the day and they are still extra now, soz ruster but where is the lie actually now we’ve got you together older and given you both pasts and this boy do be judging cos he’s trying to be different and better]

Adonis: [his not jokey enough 🥺 face at the thought of her being sunburnt like no no I hate that, kissing her everywhere she’s most likely to in this hypothetical like her nose and cheeks and shoulders and the top of her chest and her arms etc etc to kiss that all better too]
Dolly: [doing your own happy sigh that turns into a contented sort of hum you’re just carrying on because he’s not stopping kissing you all over ‘be my suncream’ in the way he said he’d be your pyjamas earlier]
Adonis: [really wrapping her up in his body as much as physically possible like yes of course I will, still doing little kisses in places he can reach ‘I’ll protect you from whatever you need protecting from’ in french]
Dolly: [when you’re obviously both still naked so that’s hitting different and you are, ironically, getting more red about it right now; never mind the reaction when he says this because who has ever promised you such a thing? Not even your parents who are arguably the people who are meant to mean that over anyone ‘where did you come from?’ also in french by default after his]
Adonis: [‘I’ve often asked myself that question’ just in french continuously at this point unless I specify otherwise because those bitches and in this mood, when you hardcore feel like you don’t fit in with your fam and you know she feels the same ‘but it doesn’t matter any more, not now I’m here with you’] 
Dolly: [‘people like you… I was losing hope you existed’ just maintaining the deepest eye contact of all time right now and not even blinking is how it feels, like you can’t or it’ll ruin the moment]
Adonis: [‘People like you don’t exist, it’s you and you alone’ like there is no plural, because it genuinely feels like he has never met anyone like her before and never will again, maintaining that insane level of eye contact of course]
Dolly: [‘you need to fuck me now’ yes a need, sorry not sorry]
Adonis: [go find your clothes wherever you abandoned them in that en-suite and retrieve the expensive af condoms with all the bells and whistles that you must have made that poor driver stop at some point so you could buy, as if it wasn’t enough you insisted he turned around and went back the way he came, sorry to that man, giving one to her so she can put it on because that’s cute and romantic but also those nerves do exist in the background and how embarrassing if you messed that up]
Dolly: [jump at the chance to do this literally so because you clearly forgot to bring any so good thing he has some and you need to show him you’re serious too, not doing the whole putting it on with your mouth trick but we’re kissing down his stomach to get there and then across both his thighs as we do it, almost having to catch our breath here already]
Adonis: [it’s so mutual, he’s definitely forgot how to breathe, despite the fact he’s doing a hot move of picking her up so that he can lower her down onto this bed with him in an embrace while having more insane eye contact about it, because always highkey]
Dolly: [laying back and maintaining this eye contact to show that you don’t need to look away this time]
Adonis: [saying her name because he has never said it, almost as a GASP like can’t believe this is about to happen omg because all you’ve both been THINKING about for hours and hours by now]
Dolly: [pulling him closer to you a fraction because he said your name and you’re !! but you still want him to be the one to do it so not fully grabbing him here]
Adonis: [do initiate this, however tentatively at first because nerves cannot change the fact you really really wanna do this, obviously such a quiet but !! noise about it]
Dolly: [the intake of breath and widening of your eyes that you eventually have to close, however briefly, because it’s too intense to not blink about it this time, really slowly make a countermove against him, as tentative about it]
Adonis: [we all know he was watching her really intently so he didn’t miss a single second of that reaction because EVERYTHING but he’s gotta close his own eyes for a sec when she does that move because OH OKAY, doing such a deep breath about it to try and steady himself from immediately losing it here ‘of course your insides are as flawless’ like I should have known they’d match your outsides duh, the last word in English because I don’t know the word for flawless so I don’t think you would, boy, especially in the heat of this moment, moving with intent about it cos gotta go deeper to show how much we mean what we just said]
Dolly: [making the loudest noise you have so far because if not now, when, and you can because they are a whole floor down, you’re okay ‘for you’ also in English because just changing fluidly at this point, however the mood takes us and we wanna be talking in English right now, clearly, just in case there was any confusion]
Adonis: [when I know for a fact you weren’t as loud as some of the insane characters we have, love you nerds, nevertheless he’s reacting like it’s the best thing he’s ever heard because it is, looking at her like make that sound again please rn immediately, as his body can’t help but do the most to try and make her]
Dolly: [lifting your body to meet his not only because you wanna give your all to his first time but because it feels as involuntary as his own movements and there’s no way you can just lie here right now, wrap your arms around his back so you can scratch him again with much less chill this time ‘I want it all, I want you’]
Adonis: [it can’t be overstated how into every single thing she’s doing he is, literally wrapping himself around her as dramatically as he did in the be my suncream moment, and kissing her with all the feeling ever but as quick frantic pecks almost because there are so many breaths and little sounds that need to escape on every thrust, cos they literally feel like they’re being forced out of him along with every ruster pet name in french like earlier + darling with the most !! because it’s purely theirs that one, hence he’s saying that one in english too]
Dolly: [when you’re missing every vaguely intended spot with your kisses but you don’t even care because that’s how frenzied you feel right now, trying out the french pet names too, obviously changing princess to prince lol but settling on darling and repeating that one essentially in time to what you’re doing for a moment here, totally lost in it ‘I want to do this the whole [the amount of time he said aka 2 years left at school and the 4 at uni]’]
Adonis: [likewise settling for and repeating calling her darling in different combinations of french and english, with and without my and her name added in different places because can’t shut his mouth, it’s all quiet and intense though so it’s FINE ‘I don’t know how long I can last’ the last word being a moan to really make that point as if she means continue this specific sesh for like 6 years without stopping lol, but he’s also saying it like this feels incredible and I NEED you to know how much I’m dying about it all]

i think you’re very right about all of the ways that the bucktaylor relationship was failing because of buck, but i feel like your analysis missed the key point which was that the relationship was a device used specifically to break buck out of his “clinger” role
in season five is dynamic with maddie was all about the fact that he stays too long and she runs too early, so their respective romantic arcs reflected the changes they both needed to make in order to fix those flaws in their persons
i disagree with the idea that taylor was faultless for the jonah thing but that’s just my opinion and you can have yours, however the important takeaway from that i think was that buck finally realized he needed to walk away from something, even if it was comfortable and easy. i don’t think it matters if taylor was objectively or ethically right, so much as what she did was wrong in bucks eyes and he needed that in order to finally realize he’s capable of walking away. (because both him and taylor were clingers, neither of them could step out of that toxic toxic relationship, someone had to break first)
i do think it was shitty to use the taylor kelly character in this way as nothing more than a plot device for bucks character development but on the other hand this show has given us no evidence that they’re capable of doing anything else with that man’s love interests lmao
I mean i don’t disagree lmao. I agree Taylor as well as any other girl (including lucy) that comes into contact with buck are just plot devices for his character arc. That doesn’t annoy me too much because i think you can say the same with most assemble shows?? If you aren’t a main with your own storyline, chances are you are just a character used for plot device to make the main character grow🤷🏽‍♀️ is not a rule but you surely see it in most assemble shows. Especially when its not an ongoing drama show (like idk gossip girl or money heist). 911 is a show with some season long arcs and ongoing storylines, but overall is a kinda ep by ep has different storylines. Is not one main story like idk stranger things. (Does that make sense??). So them using characters as plot devices isn’t surprising at all?? I just think they could then have made taylor be actually morally wrong??? Or selfish??? I dont even think they were in a toxic relationship lmao. Is as simple as he liked her and she loved him. And he wasn’t willing to put in the work in the relationship the way she was. All their fights were because of him, the moment she pissed HIM off he called it off. Idk if i would call that growing even if he accepted walking away for once.
And like as a buddie shipper i do gotta say, all buck’s growth comes from his interactions with eddie and chris lmao. With taylor he was just an ass.
But beyond all that, me defendinf taylor doesn’t come from me shitting the writers. I think the way she was portrayed as bad and buck as rightful at the end was shitty, but what pisses me off is people’s reaction lol. The way that Taylor’s character is called egotistical by some fans when like arguably she put aside too much of her pride to console buck’s ego. I said it with another anon but is not even the cheating. Buck admitting he asked her to move in because he feared being alone and not out of love was enough for me if i had been taylor to drop glitter in all his shit, key his car, and leave lmao. Which is ooc for taylor because she was such an independent character. What do you mean she didn’t leave???? Or even the fight at the end would have been better if after he said something had to change they would have broken up because taylor could have refused to want change and then buck walks away. But not even??? Taylor had said “fine lets change it” and then buck walked away regardless.
Its the ending for them that made me mad bc even if it needed to happen, it was just bad how they did it. And i didnt even like them together like shdjdjdjd its just the audacity of men like i WANTED to side with buck but I couldn’t bc i know damn well if taylor were my friend in real life i would have keyd buck’s car lol
The relationship wasn’t toxic it just wasn’t right. The same amount of effort wasn’t there by both parties. He fucks up and she forgives him, she fucked up (in his eyes) once and then he immediately dropped her. He said they go in circles with their first fight but???? They had that fight before they were ever in a relationship??? And then he agreed he knew what he was getting into but thought what??? He could change her???? Again it wasn’t toxic. The relationship did not hurt buck like lets be real. It just fucked up taylor. Girl got cheated on, lied to, manipulated into leaving her apt (they talked about selling or giving away things they had doubles of, which means she prob lost some things too), and then broken up the first time she made him mad like lmao. I still wouldn’t say it wasn’t toxic because is not like they were becoming other people or doing worse with each other. The relationship simply wasn’t right. And i wanted them to break up. Just wish taylor had at least call him out or stood her ground at the end, not immediately fold just for her to be dropped either ways.
(But i love what you said about his storyline mirroring maddie’s!!!)

- WELCOME TO PART THREE sorry for the log wait 😭 life has been kicking my ass but we're not here to hear me complain, we're here for the tea
- so, it's a couple months after you joined the bakusquad and their relationship. and let me tell you, it has been nothing but amazing. 😩 your days are never quiet and they're always filled with some sort of excitement and love.
- you kaminari and mina often get into trouble for leaving the dorms late at night because you want snacks and there's nothing in the kitchens. you become kirishima's pillow, don't matter about your size or whatever, you are his pillow and you better not argue 🔫 sero always puts on some type of bachata or reggaeton or some spanish song and dances with you in his dorms. and bakugo is your go to person to cook with and just generally annoy or prank since it's so easy to get a reaction out of him.
- and you couldn't have asked for a better relationship. you all are so communicative and talk about your feelings often and how you're doing. every saturday or sunday, you all go to a dorm (usually it's bakugo's cause it's the cleanest) and have a huge cuddle pile and talk about your mental states, how you're doing, what you have problems with, etc etc.
- like damn ok i see you with the mentally and emotionally stable relationship 🤪🤪
- it's so refreshing too because sometimes you'll have a tough week and you jsut need to let it all out, and you can in the comfort of bakugo's dorm and you know none of them will judge you because they're all so open about their love for you (and vise versa)
- anyways, yeah y'all got the best relationship
- you never thought about anyone else in a romantic sense because the squad took up nearly all of the space in your heart. but when you teacher announced one day the general studies kids would be coming in to have a joint project to create gadgets for the hero course students, you had no idea your life would suddenly be turned upsidedown.
- you were paired with a guy named shinsou. he looked friendly enough and returned the wave you sent him with a little surprise as he made his way to the open seat next to you. he seemed surprised when you started a small conversation but he talked to you in a quiet soothing voice. he seemed nice enough and you figured the project would be a breeze since he seemed so nice and offered to meet up over the weekend to start up some ideas for the project.
- you agreed and the two of you met up that lunch period in the library to pre-draft some ideas and get to know each other more.

"i'm surprised you don't mind being seen with me."
his sudden comment took you by surprise as you looked up from your paper with messily drawn gadgets and chicken scratch writing to look up at him, "what do you mean?"
it was true you had never seen him before or even heard of him, but his hesitance to talk to you and open up to you made you feel as though you should.
shinsou rubbed the back of his neck and looked away shyly, "so you really haven't heard anything about me, have you?"
he looked almost guilty to bring it up, his gaze falling to the table in front of him as be played with a strand of his hair.
you shook your head. you never really payed attention to gossip around school, your head always too high up in the clouds to care about rumors and gossip (bakugo often scolded you for being such an airhead and ignorant to your surroundings, but you knew he was just worried about something happening to you). plus, to you, gossip was nearly never right and more often made up and fictitious.
shinsou refused to look up at you, "well. . .i'm known throughout the school as a. . ." he looked hesitant to continue but before you could reassure him he didn't have to talk about it if he didn't want to, he continued, "well, a villain."
he prised his lips as if the words left a bitter taste in his mouth, and all you could do was tilt your head. shinsou didn't seem like a bad person - or a 'villain' as he had said. on the way to the library he held open doors for you and helped you carry some of your books to your locker and even bought you a drink you wanted buy but were a bit short of change on.
"do you think you are?"
"what?" shinsou looked at you for the first time since he brought up the topic.
"do you think you're a villain?" he shuffled slightly in his seat and looked away again from your intense stare. he felt like you were looking straight into his soul from how strongly you were looking into his eyes, he wasn't sure if you had even blinked in the last minute.
shinsou thought back to all the times he's been called a villain or a criminal. it was always unwarranted, a passing comment that seemed like no big deal to others but shattered his heart into smaller and smaller pieces. but never once had he ever thought he was a villain - a monster.
if anything, he used those comments as encouragement to become a hero, to be better than those who always thought he would turn to a life of crime. so, "no... i don't think i'm a villain."
"well, that's that."
shinsou could only stare at you, your smile brighter than any star he'd ever seen, so full of hope and encouragement shinsou felt like he could take on the world. he looked away and rubbed the back of his neck, a shy smile pulling at his lips and a weird feeling blossoming in his chest. how curious. . .

- so yeah, a new friendship 🤪 the two of you started to spend a lot of free time together for the project. you would often meet up during lunches or free time between classes to work some more on the project, all the while getting to know each other in depth. you learned many things about shinsou and spilled many of your own secrets, you laughed together over old childhood stories, and played animal crossing on the rooftop during lunch, your project discarded and forgotten beside you.
- your sudden absence didn't go unnoticed by your lovers, and they grew curious to your whereabouts when you would blow them off for the fifth time that week to "work on your project". now, don't get me wrong, they had conplete trust in you and knew you would never cheat, but they were just curious as to what - or who - was taking up so much of your time.
- so, they did the smartest thing, and followed you. after blowing them off for the sixth time, they decided to follow you to your destination. mina and kaminari tried to be inconspicuous and wear disguises, but the fake mustache, black glasses (indoors, might i add) and hat weren't all too discreet as they thought.
- they followed you through every turn and weave you took and hid behind a corner when you stopped at a vending machine to get your favourite drink. but what surprised them the most was you also bought a coffee. bakugo was most surprised you even thought about even touching the can of caffine because he remembered you telling him you would get terrible caffine rushes that would make you dizzy if you drank coffee.
- but, as you finally reached the rooftop and made your way to a hunched over figure in the corner, it all made sense.
- they all saw how effortlessly you and shinsou acted around each other. they could see the soft looks he would send you when you weren't looking and the way his hand would hover over yours for a split second too long before snapping away as if you were made of lava. but surprisingly, they didn't feel any sort of jealousy or anger, it felt like a piece of them had returned they didn't even know was missing. the sort of feeling that walks through the door unexpectedly but it's wholesomely welcomed.
- the "oh, there you are, welcome back" type of feeling. they were happy you had found someone that made you feel comfortable, arguably more comfortable than you had been with them so far because truthfully, while you had felt welcomed and appreciated in the relationship, it still felt like you were an outsider. the five of them had inside jokes before you came and didn't get them when they came up, the five of them had habits special to each other that inadvertently excluded you. and while they never meant to hurt you (god knows that's the last thing they ever wanted to do), they had. but you knew that wasn't their intention so you held no malitious feelings towards them (not that you think you'd ever could).
- but the way you and shinsou so effortlessly opened up to each other, shared intimate details and secrets with each other - it warmed their hearts. so, bakugo grabbed them all by the back of their shirts and dragged them away, mumbling about giving the two of you space. there was a fond look in his eyes as he looked at the two of you he would be teased about later but would deny.
- it was undeniable bakugo held the softest spot for you. he tried as best as he could to include you in their inside jokes and habits but he was. . well . . . bakugo 🧍🏽‍♀️
- words aren't necessarily his strong suit and he could only hope his smaller actions let you know you were as loved and cherished as any of them there. and you knew, you caught on a little after bakugo had a little "secret talk" with the group (that wasn't really secret at all, he grabbed them all by their shirts and dragged them to a secluded spot while you distracted on your phone) and they all started to explain their jokes and include you in their habits.
- anyways, back to you and shinsou. 🤪 he was aware you were in a ployamorous relationship with the bakusquad and he's heard the way you talk about them and the soft airy tone of your voice and the starry look in your eyes; and he didn't want to get in between that. the last thing he ever wanted was to ruin your relationship for his own selfish reasons.
- so for the time being, he would be okay with watching you from afar, the sweetness of your love so close for him to taste; yet too far for him to savour.
- as more and more times passed, the bakusquad began to notice the lingering looks you would give shinsou when you passed him in the halls and how he would always be waiting for you outside of your class with your favourite drink before leaving you to go to lunch while he went off and . . . well, you weren't sure what he did during his free time, but he never brought it up so you never figured to ask.
- when you fell asleep the next time you all had a cuddle session in bakugo's room, they all talked about it. talked about your obvious feelings for each other and the possibility of including shinsou in their relationship. they spent hours talking about it and still talked about it even when the moon vanished over the horizon and the sun rose. and, in not very smart fashion, bakugo was tasked to confronting shinsou about their conclusion.
- which - almost as if there were an author behind all of this - didn't go as well as any of them planned.

it was perfect, really. almost as if the universe had been listening to their conversation and aligned itself perfectly for this very moment.
you woke up that morning with a terrible stomach ache and chose to stay back in your dorm after bakugo made you a bowl of soup and threatened you to take your medicine. his classes ended a little earlier than usual and, sending his lover's a nod, made his way over to your class, where, lo and behold, shinsou was standing near the door, the familiar brand of your favourite drink in one hand and his own cold coffee in the other.
bakugo wasn't sure what he was going to say when he reached shinsou. he opted to just speak from the heart over rehearsing lines with the others like they had wanted, besides, what kind of lover would be be if he couldn't even do this for you? but, what he didn't take into consideration, was his emotional constipation and tsundere attidute.
"hey, eye bags!" bakugo called out.
shinsou nearly jumped out of his skin at bakugo's sudden loud voice. he looked over with the same eyes of indifference he normally had, but bakugo could see the slight far in them. not at his brash attitude (shinsou could never be afriad of bakugo and confronting him before the sports fesitval was a perfect example of that) but the fear of ruining your relationship with the bakusquad.
shinsou nodded at bakugo when he got close enough. bakugo stood in front of him, his hands still shoved into the pockets of his pants, "they're sick."
it was a simple enough statement but shinsou blinked, "what?"
"y/n." bakugo stated and rolled his eyes as if the answer had been written on his forehead (and it basically had, shinsou was just a bit shocked at his appearance), "they're sick and mina's staying back with them in their dorm."
shinsou rubbed the back of his neck, "oh."
there was an awkward silence as the two boys stood in the vacant hallway. bakugo didn't know what to say and shinsou wasn't sure if he should leave or go visit you for their lunch break.
"i'll go drop this off to them-"
"no." bakugo practically growled, "i'll drop it off. go get eat your lunch or i'll make your face an eye bag."
shinsou flushed a bit in embarrassment. he was overstepping, of course he was. for a minute, having you all to himself for nearly a week straight made him forget about the relationship you were in and this was a smack of reality. you weren't his. you were in a relationship with others, other people who could give you nearly double what he could - everything he couldn't.
handing bakugo the drink, shinsou stalked away to the cafeteria, his cheeks still a light shade of pink. bakugo sighed and knew he most likely made things worse, and he came there originally to make things right.
but fate will work itself out. and what will be, will be.

- so... maybe sending bakugo wasn't the best idea ... 🧍🏽‍♀️
- because now, shinsou started avoiding you. when the two for you worked on your projects together, he would remain mostly silent and only input his opinion when he thought of an idea or needed help putting something together. you had no idea why and you honestly felt a little hurt that he ignored you as easily as breathing.
- you brought this up to your lovers on your weekly cuddle session, knowing they would have brought up your downpour attitude either way. what you didn't notice as your face was burried in denki's sweater were the glares they all were throwing at bakugo.
- "yeah, i wonder what happened..." sero smiled, though obviously strained, as he pet your head and told you shinsou was probably just going through something.
- and it was obvious you were hurt that shinsou had suddenly stopped talking to you because honestly it was kind of hard for you to make friends. a lot of people assumed you thought you were higher than everyone else because you were dating five students from the top hero course, but that obviously is far from the truth.
- anyways, a long time goes by and the two of you still haven't rekindled anything and the squad is getting a bit frustrated because hello??? join our cult lover circle ?????
- so the squad comes up with another solution and this time they don't send bakugo to collect shinsou
- they learned their mistake last time.
- anyways
- so sero goes and gets shinsou and tells him you need him for a little last touch of the project since it was near the due date and you wanted to make sure it was perfect. and shinsou agrees to meet up with you and follows sero.
- sero takes him into an empty classroom and it's pitch black. the windows have been covered with tape and all the lights are off. before he could ask what the hell was going on, the door slams shut and the lights suddenly turn on and shinsou's blinded for a moment.
- and he's met with a very interesting sight.
- mina, kaminari, and kirishima are standing in front of him with sunglasses and hats on, their arms are crossed and they have a blank look on their faces (though he can tell kaminari is about to burst into laughter and nearly does but kirishima jabs him in his side.)
- "uhh..."
- "shut up, eye bags." bakugo calls from behind him. he's leaning against the door with his arms crossed and an obviously pissed off look on his face.
- sero is just standing next to him with a 'sorry pal' kind of smile.
- "what is-"
- "what are your intentions with, y/n?" kaminari shouted suddenly as he slammed his hand on a nearby desk.
- "denki- no." mina pushed him back lightly, "that's not what-"
- "did you not listen last night, sparky?" bakugo rolled his eyes and scoffed lightly.
- kaminari shyly scratched his cheek, "i might have fellen asleep-"
- "he did." sero confirmed, "he drooled on me and everything.
- "I do not drool!!"
- "yes you do, it was like a waterfall, 'ki. "
- "no i don't, right kiri?"
- "well.. only a few drops.."
- "WHAT?! and none of you told me?!"
- "well, y/n kind of made us promise not to tell..."
- "SPEAKING OF Y/N," mina interjected into the conversation, her fingers rubbing at her temples as she wondered when she became the rational one, that was bakugo's job, "why don't we stick to the script, boys."
- kirishima slung an arm over her shoulder and pressed a kiss to her cheek, "sorry, princess."
- "right." sero turned to shinsou and crossed his arms, "you have feelings for them don't you?"
- shinsou tensed. his mind was still trying to comprehend the conversation that happened just a few seconds ago and processing the fact that kaminari drools in his sleep. he wasn't sure how to respond.
- of course he had feelings for you, any rational person who came into contact with you would catch feelings. it was part of your natural charm that seemed to effortlessly draw people in and never let them go. in a matter of minutes, you had simultaneously become his best friend and his closest confidant. often at night he cursed himself for catching feelings for you when things were perfect just the way they were.
- but shinsou couldn't help it. you had treated him like a normal person and weren't apprehensive about his quirk. you gave him a taste of normalcy in his world of anxieties and judgement, and he craved more and more the more time he spent with you.
- so dispte wanting to desparately scream 'yes, i do love her' at the top of his lungs, he looked down at the ground, "no. . . i . . i don't."
- "liar."
- bakugo seethed behind him.
- shoving himself off the wall he was leaning on, bakugo walked closer and closer to shinsou as he spoke, "don't lie. we all see the way you look at them, the way your stupid face lights up with a small smile when they're with you or the airy chuckle you give when they do one of those stupid dances when they make food and-"
- "OK OK I GET IT!" shinsou snapped. mina jumped slightly in kirishima's arms and shinsou sent her a small apologetic look, "you know! I'm in love with them! i've been. . ." he trailed off before collapsing into a chair behind him, his head hanging back and staring into the bright flourescent lights hanging from the ceiling.
- "i've been trying to distance myself from them, to make getting over them easier."
- "they've been hurting, y'know."
- shinsou groaned and hid his face in his hands, "i know. you think i don't see the looks they give me when i avoid them in the halls? it hurts knowing i'm the reason they're in pain."
- "so why are you doing it?"
- "because they have you guys," shinsou sighed as it if we're the most obvious thing in the world, "you all could love them a lot more than i ever could alone. plus, they're so happy with you, i couldn't be the reason to disturb that."
- "you gotta be fucking kidding me." bakugo growled and pinched the bridge of his nose.
- kaminari snorted, "i think i just got deja vu."
- "you could say that again," mina sighed, "i'm heading back to the dorms, this is giving me a headache."
- with his arm still slung over her shoulder, kirishima agreed, "yeah, not sure how we didn't see this from the beginning. i'll walk you back, princess."
- shinsou only stared blankly as mina and kirishima left the room with kaminari in tow, complaining about getting some math work done. never in his life did he feel as confused as he did now
- lost. mans was lost..
- someone get him a map and help him please
- they acted as if they hadn't been the ones to literally kidnap him
- only to nonchalantly walk out the door?????
- sero's voice snapped him back to the remaining two people in the room, "you two really are a match made in heaven." sero smiled at him and shinsou felt head rise in his cheeks, whether it be from embarassment or something else, he didn't know.
- "i'll see you two around" and then he left, leaving shinsou alone with bakugo, who had yet to realease the bridge of his nose from his pinch.
- "you're both a pair of dumbasses."
- "i'm offended-"
- "y/n said the same fucking thing when we confronted them."
- shinsou stayed silent.
- "they felt like their presence would ruin the routine we had set a long time ago when we first started our relationship. . . sound familiar?"
- shinsou rubbed the back of his neck and opened his mouth to speak, but bakugo interrupted.
- "shut up, eye bags, i'm not finished."
- "i dIdNt eVEn sAy aNyTHiNg"
- "sure there were some things we had to adjust to include them in our schedule and a whole new bundle of emotions to incorporate into our lives; but the while point of a relationship is to open up slowly and learn to trust the ones you love. and eventually, we all learned to trust them the same way they learned to trust us; but trust isn't something you can learn over night. it's gradual."
- bakugo sighed, how in the hell did he get stuck in this situation again. at the very least no one got injured this time, "what I'm trying to say is, if y/n makes you happy, then we're all willing to let you in our relationship and put our trust in you.
- "will you put your trust in us?"

- so
- :) shinsou decides, fuck it. i deserve the good things in life, and he puts his trust in the squad the same way they all put their trust in him.
- and they decided it was a good time to surprise you too and kill two birds with one stone :)
- so you walk in to bakugo's dorm after a long day of school. you were returning from turning in your project with shinsou, and while the teacher had given you many compliments and basically secured your A, you still felt a bit sad knowing it would be the last time you would see shinsou since your schedules didn't collide and you had ended on a . . . confusing note.
- so you were just looking to cuddle with your lovers on a Friday night and wallow away in your sadness.
- when you walked in the group had been piled in their natural spots on bakugo's bed. mina was giggling with kaminari as they scrolled through tiktok, bakugo was reading a book you had reccomend to him a while a go, sero and kirishima were softly play fighting as they laughed and chuckled.
- everything was as it should be
- until you got to where your spot usually was, cradled between bakugo's warm and firm chest and mina's plush thighs and stomach, and it was occupied by someone else.
- everyone stopped what they were doing, as they watched a smile pull at your lips when you recognised the disheveled pruple hair lazily sprawled in your spot. everyone watched with bated breath as they waited for your reaction and small smiles of their own shining through as they watched your interaction.
- you lifted your hand and smacked shinsou's knee that had been raised up slightly as one of his arms lay behind his head and the other fiddled with a bracelet around mina's wrist, and his lips pulled into a lazy smirk of his own as he watched you.
- "get up, fat head, you're in my spot."
- his smirk only grew.
- "do something about it, hero."

I saw some pretty hot takes on Eden lately and I just needed to vent.
I don't understand why Eden is /this/ badly received by the fandom (the whole fandom, even from Adam fans), and that, if you ship Eden, you must do it in secret or attach a post scriptum to say that yes, you ship Eden but, like, in a toxic relationship interpretation.
I have a very long history of shipping toxic and unhealthy age gaps ships, and I absolutely love this kind of dynamics if written correctly. I made my fair share of posts in the past rambling about the proper way to portray unhealthy relationships and not romanticise them (as well as saying that liking bad in fiction doesn't equal to condoning it in canon but we're not even in this territory with sk8).
However, that's not the case with Eden. We could argue that the relationship kind of starts like this (but it's up to discussion, in my opinion) but how it becomes post canon is the farthest from that kind of dynamics. I could understand where this is coming from from someone who doesn't like Adam and makes him to be Everything Bad That's On Earth, but I also see this kind of reaction from Adam's fans and it's a bit weird to me.
It's clear that Adam has romantic, arguably sexual, feelings for Langa. He makes it very clear during the course of the show and also in post-canon material (i.e. referring to the sk8 six group as "Langa and the (5) others" twice). I saw some people saying that Eden relies on an Adam's interpretation that it's not supported by canon, but I feel like these interactions and banters (VA event, DVD package box, him still showering Langa with flowers in the post credit scene) show otherwise.
Moving onto Langa, since I also saw a lot of people surprised that, wow, Langa seems to reciprocate??? At least it's better than people still thinking that Langa would ever reject Adam's advances in canon. This is probably a point that's very dear to me, since it's actually the basis as to why I think Eden places miles away from the toxic relationships above. The dynamics in these relationships usually goes that the older one coerces the younger and more naive one with something and exploits them in a way. Then, the younger one usually reacts and a new dynamics establishes in the couple. It's a cool thing to explore in fiction, but, again, not an Eden thing in the slightest.
First of all, Langa already is into skateboarding before meeting Adam. He didn't make Langa interested in skateboarding so he could approach him, he just saw him multiple times and only after that he decided to approach him.
When they meet for the first time, Adam isn't very much different than he usually is at S. He's still the extravagant, arrogant and self-confident legend of S. That is to say, he's not trying to appear different in Langa's eyes to install a false sense of security. Adam straight up claims him to be his prize and not only Langa isn't put off by that but this also makes him want to skate more against the other. If he wasn't genuinely interested in Adam, he would've been put off by this behaviour (like Reki is). In fact, Reki skates against Adam to prove a point, Langa skates against him because he wants to, no reasons needed. Again, during the recent VA event, after re-enacting some of the pivotal scenes in the series, Reki states that it's peaceful without Adam (his va wasn't present at the event) and Langa ~immediately~ says that he would have wanted to see some of Adam's scenes. That's not what you say about someone you don't like XD

He probably doesn't realize that Adam calls him Eve for a while, but when he does, Langa doesn't look weirded out or annoyed by it. He is surprised by it. And it's hard to think that he didn't get the reference when someone named Adam calls him Eve. I don't want to say that he agrees to be Adam's Eve, of course, but he's fine with it. Like he's fine with Adam giving him roses and his violent behaviour in general.

Talking about violent behaviour, he's never angry with him when Adam gets violent. He understands that such are the rules of S and during the last episode Utsumi said that she wanted them to fight with fists so she thinks that Langa would be fine with getting violent too (but after the Famous RinHaru Scene I see why she'd think that...) but that's just speculation. In ep 5, he just wants to skate with him, full stop. But also, even after seeing Adam getting extremely violent with Reki in ep 11 he's not actually angry or wants revenge. Instead, he's bent on wanting to know Adam better and teaching him the fun in skating. He rooted for Reki because he wanted to skate against him in a beef for sure but also bc he thought that the message could get across Adam even if delivered by Reki but when it didn't he wanted to do it himself. If Langa was being exploited by Adam, or groomed, or anything, he would've woken up after the Renga makeup. But, oh well, he didn't. That's because Eden was never meant to be abusive. That's not the face you show to your abuser.

Him and Tadashi are the only one in the series with the balls of actually calling out to Adam when he goes out of line. Joe does it in ep 11, but only because he's afraid for Reki's safety. Langa has no problems with flashing Adam an annoyed gaze when he smokes instead of skating against him, and has no problem calling out his bs in ep 12. I'm p sure that if he knew about Adam's warped conception of love, he'd call out on that too. He is able and has the agency of standing up to him and he's not a passive part in the relationship. Very much different from toxic relationships, where making the other unable to react (or them escaping from such a situation) is one of the main points of the dynamics.

There are countless ways Eden could go wrong and get toxic (the last ep showed us a pretty good example when they both got in the zone), but Reki teaching Langa the fun in skating prevented it. In a way, Reki made healthy Eden possible, but we're not ready to have this kind of talk yet XD

needed a little break in between reading summer rain and silent storms by @astridthevalkyrie to process the first book's ending. i thought going straight into silent storms would literally break me (like actually murder me lol)
yet, i was rendered pleasantly surprised.
i began reading silent storms during my commute to work. and lemme tell you, i haven't been wanting to go to work for a while now because it's been HECTIC (new ehr system is driving us all NUTS). i was also expecting to hold my tears in public (in fear of the angst of the ending of summer rain to bleed into silent storms' beginning). however, i spent like thirty minutes trying not to squeal with happiness and adoration, instead. it also just so happened that when i reached the first smut scene, i was still on my commute (fairly easy to hide my blush behind a mask though, thank god LOL). and by the time my commute to work finished, i was so energized by what i'd read, that i felt excited?? to walk into work??? like levi and oc's romance??? literally rejuvenated me LOL
the overall feel of silent storms, for me at least, was much lighter, fluffier than what summer rain was. don't get me wrong. it was a still massive fucking idiots to lovers, but the idiocy was adorable and tolerable. (mainly because i got to see what was going on in levi's head, which was an AMAZING touch.) i didn't wanna rip out my heart and cry at any point of the story; instead, i wanted to scream and dance with joy 99.9% of the time. i cannot emphasize HOW WELL the emotions, the feelings, the butterflies are written. i feel like i'm feeling love for the first time reading what the characters are going through and not many pieces of media can actually make me feel something
it's the way in which the thoughts are written so... realistically. you hear the characters' doubts, their wishes, their fears. you see what they hide from the other, what they pick and choose to share. you see what they secretly struggle with and what the other assumes of them. and every single one of their reactions/thoughts feels organic to me. also very true to character

i think this was in chapter one. but this fucking quote:
"The tea is just as bad as last time, if not worse, but he dutifully drinks it all, as she makes herself at home in his office and starts talking his ear off about the many unhealthy effects of insomnia and why does she care why is she looking at him like that what's the matter with her why doesn't she just shut the fuck up for once why is she so pretty—"
the moment i read the latter part, my heart flew out of my chest. it's fucking adorable the way he can barely have a linear thought because he's so whipped for her. i can't even explain with words how HAPPY i was to see how he had felt through all of this
let's also talk about the fucking character development. oc out there pulling uno reverse cards. i think she's the kind of person who grows and learns from others. she takes each person's word to account AND she is aware of this (also the reason she tries to avoid telling levi about important life choices she knows he'll try to talk her out of). sometimes, her inner demons get the best of her. she's complex. (i had an inkling of this is summer rain but more of her childhood was explained in silent storms and the puzzle pieces just fit.) she likes to think that she lives for herself. degrades herself into thinking she's selfish (though honestly, there's nothing wrong with looking out for yourself). but i think it's natural for her to also look out for the people she cares for. her way of caring is listening. and taking in the information they tell her. it's just the cherry on top of her already lovable character. anyways, after understanding her character better, for a while, i suspected she'd somehow(?) try to join the scouts. i was very surprised (and supportive) of her decision to do so as well!
in summer rain, i thought she wasn't ready to be a scout yet. but clearly, she's had quite a few epiphanies and they'd led her to believe in herself. she's totally ready now
i still can't believe i went in thinking i'd fall for levi more and came out falling for the female lead help??
levi's sweet moments sprinkled throughout?? the fic?? killed me.
" 'I'm glad,' he confesses to her, 'I'm happy you didn't join the Scouts. I ... want you to be safe.' "
there are moments like this where he speaks his truth... but it's so tender, so sweet that it's just almost out of pocket. but at this point, he should just fucking say the opposite of what he wants for oc because she'll do the thing he doesn't want her to do, anyways
and listen when he said:
" 'Your mother didn't do her best,' he says honestly, 'you did.' "
i very much did cry inside. and the fact that this left oc speechless. like same, babe, same. it's these rare moments of sweetness that leave me feeling giddy. i don't expect it at all, so when it just comes out, i get so caught off guard LOL
my favorites scenes HAD to be when they had a full-on verbal fight in front of oc's date LMAO, when levi initiated their second kiss, when petra convinced oc to join the special operations squad, when levi and oc finally fucking decided to make something fucking official and then he proceeds to pull out a list of rules from nowhere. hilarious
their constant bickering and dialogue is just *chef's kiss.* never exactly read a couple with better chemistry. i'm also the type of person to like the chase but loathe the aftermath of a couple finally getting together. but fucking goddammit, with these two, i know it'll never get boring. it's also because they tend to banter a lot and i'm that bitch who ships dramione and zutara so you know i like the drama
ALSO?? ERWIN?? when i was watching aot, my friend told me she thought erwin was a 'bad' character. i asked her why she felt that way. she told me because he had no depth to his character—that he was plain. i disagreed. i think erwin (along with levi and eren) is arguably one of the most complex characters in aot, and this fic just brings it out sooooo well! there's just?? something in me?? that makes me believe erwin is SUS of levi and oc. also the fact that he remains a mystery to oc too. she's always questioning the relationship erwin has with levi and even that in it itself makes the man 10 times more enigmatic. i absolutely love it
and the smut. goodbye. i only expected one scene. i was given like... i can't even count because i can't do math when i'm excited lol. but it was much more than what i expected and i was LIVING for it. something about levi letting go of control????????? please. didn't think subby levi would be my cup of tea but i guess i was proven wrong. i'm not even mad
i forgot to say in my last review. but listen. oc liking milk makes me feel so validated. like i literally do not know a single fucking real-life person who likes drinking plain milk like me. and yes, people have poked fun at my habit. BUT SEEING OC DRINKING HER PLAIN MILK SO UNAPOLOGETICALLY. GODDAMN. plain milk drinkers rise 😩😩
but i also need levi to teach oc how to make good tea tho. like girly, you add hot water and a good amount of tea leaves 🤨 what are you getting wrong?
anyways, i've said way too much again. but i can't help but get excited when i come across such a great work of art. though i admit i'm terrified going into warmth. i don't think i'm ready to see the show's events unfolding... because when petra dies i will fucking cry. it's funny because when i first watched aot, i didn't even know who petra fucking was until AFTER she got squashed... yikes. but the more i learn about her character (in aot and in this particular setting), the more i like her
i always end up having some sort of stupid side character syndrome. in aot, i focused on levi/hange/erwin and sasha/connie/jean. and now even in a whole ass fanfiction ABOUT levi, i'm fantasizing about petra and erwin??? huh???
i hope things go well for levi and oc in the future. i'm not ready to see the shit go down in warmth though 😭

can you explain in more detail why you think the PT weren't good friends for akiren? i'm not asking out of hate or to start drama, i just never interpreted things that way and i'm genuinely curious. i don't think them being brainwashed by maruki makes them "bad friends", but i don't know if that's what you meant either. i'd love to read a proper explanation on this that isn't just people arguing in the notes of that post.
Hi! Yeah, I know the ~discourse~ climate is pretty touchy and not a good place to exchange ideas, so I’ll do my best to put my thoughts on this matter into words. 
Settle in, bc this one is long.
I’ll start off by saying I don’t dislike the PT, nor do I think they’re bad people, and honestly I think they love Joker a lot! Ryuji calling Akira after his fake death and talking about how his ideas on what makes a hero have changed because of Akira genuinely makes me emotional, along with dozens of other scenes with the thieves! They’re good kids who could be really good friends to Akira but that’s not what’s shown in the game. I don’t think it’s controversial to say Akira’s relationships with all of his friends are transactional. That’s kind of the point, all of his confidants arise out of deals, give and take, and in the metanarrative of the game, that’s how it works. You as the player help these characters solve their problems, and through ranking their confidants up, you get access to more gameplay perks. So it’s pretty even!! But like,,Akira, the character, isn’t the player. There’s no in-story mechanic by which he can cash in friendship points for being-good-at-killing-things prizes. Yes, he uses those abilities to not die in the metaverse, but there is no literal, in-universe way to explain how hanging out with someone translates to [insert gameplay perk here]. So you have to look at what is physically happening in the story. Akira hangs out with the PT, stands there while they have drama with another irrelevant character, and then one way or another their problems get solved and they swear to be Akira’s blood brother or whatever. Akira is a crutch for these characters, and they say multiple times that they wouldn’t have been able to do what they did without him. So all of their shit gets handled and Akira gets?? Like actually gets?? What? Inquiries about his well-being? Offers to help him? Questions about his life, his interests? No,,,not really,, But he gets access to a super powerful persona!! Yay!!! Bc everyone knows he’s just a little shadow-killing machine, right? And even the relationships he does get something tangible (as in separate from the mechanics of the game) out of, like Kawakami’s, are built on the notion that if Akira stops providing for whatever reason, the relationship will end. So essentially, Akira is under the pressure of filling whatever role his friends need him in for however long at any time, and he’s been led to believe that if he stops or fails, he will stop receiving any reciprocal care and acceptance.
(And I know this is all gameplay stuff, I know it has to be like this to codify the complicated process of human relationships, I know all of that, I’m just trying to find a deeper layer bc that’s what I do.)
This whole thing comes into pretty clear focus for me during the third semester when you visit everyone in the false reality. Everyone is happy to see him, of course, but they’re clearly wrapped up in their own happiness. Which is understandable, again, I’m not saying the PT need to be attached to Akira to be good friends, but it all still feels off to me.
If they know Joker, then they’d know it’s weird that he just shows up and starts asking these pointed questions while they’re in the middle of something. All of their other interactions with him have been led by them. Yeah, Joker approaches them bc the player has decided to hang out with them, but the other character always chooses the activity and leads the discussion. Akira showing up out of nowhere and asking them to “remember” and “move on” and whatnot should be raising some major red flags. And it clearly does, since their memories do start to return, but they’re all too scared of losing their happiness that they nope out of the conversation as soon as possible, without stopping to consider why Joker might be trying to reach out to them like that. They’re his friends; they should know he wouldn’t just be trying to hurt them or make them unhappy. After all, their entire relationship with him up til that point has been exclusively about Joker trying to help them. This doesn’t make the PT bad people, running away is a totally natural reaction in that situation. They’re just kids, and their minds have been manipulated to a point, but it’s not like they don’t remember Joker or the way they’ve grown since meeting him. In fact many of them mention how much they’ve matured recently, but they never actually relate that back to Akira, despite him being the primary driving force behind most of their personal arcs, even though they definitely remember him. Translation vagueness or deliberate nod to the idea that the PT don’t actually credit Akira with all the hard work he did after their initial lip service? Hmmm. Anyway, their failure to recognize that Joker is struggling just demonstrates to me what was set up all throughout their confidant links, that their relationships are transactional and that they don’t necessarily consider Joker and his individual needs outside of what he provides for them. And when they no longer need him bc that hole has been filled, he simply doesn’t occupy the same place of importance in their lives. 
Makoto’s flashback in particular stood out to me, bc it was from a moment where she was specifically talking about feeling like she finally found a place to belong with the Phantom Thieves (and by extension, with Joker), but then she desperately tries to brush it off. Obviously that sense of belonging wasn’t meaningful enough to her for her to want it back. And I’m not blaming her, of course, any teenager would choose to have their father back over being in a vigilante group lmao, I just thought it was telling that the devs decided to show us a scene that was originally meant to be heartwarming as an example of the harsh reality Makoto wants to forget. All of the flashbacks are from defining moments for the thieves, but that one specifically got me like *thinking emoji*
So his friends are hesitant, despite the fact that they must know something is wrong. It’s understandable, they all stand to lose a lot if someone messes with the status quo. I genuinely don’t think I would react any differently. But there is someone who reacts differently and against his own self-interest. It’s Goro, the one who has arguably the most to lose, who doesn’t turn away from Akira. He seeks Akira out and teams up with him to uncover what’s really going on, even though he has every reason to believe that prodding too deep will literally mean the end of his life. He forces Akira and himself to face the truth because he knows anything else would just be an insult to what they’ve suffered so far. He’s the only one who never flinches, and that, more than any of his friends’ come-to-jesusing (which Akira still has to initiate) is what Akira needs in that situation. For the first time (outside of the brief instances in the tutorial levels), we see a situation where Akira is actually the dependent one, the one who needs help, who needs support. And the only one who has ever provided that, unconditionally, without demanding anything in return, is Goro. I could go into how Goro’s confidant blows all of the others out of the water in terms of building both himself AND Akira as characters, but it’s been said already and by smarter people than me. But basically, despite competition being a core theme of their relationship, Goro is the only character who is portrayed as Akira’s equal. Their contests are all in the name of improving not just Goro, but Akira too. Goro is the only character who expresses an interest in Akira’s inner life and development, and as such he knows Akira better than anyone else. So when Maruki tries to trap them all in a gilded birdcage, Goro won’t stand for it and he knows Akira won’t stand for it either. That’s why he’s so betrayed if you choose to accept the dreamworld. You’re negating the basis of your entire relationship with him and going against your own principles. Out of every character in the game, the one who knows Akira best and refuses to abandon him even when that could mean his own death is Goro Akechi.
I want to reiterate: I do not hate or even dislike the PT!! And tbh I don’t really think they “abandoned” Akira. That post, imo, is supposed to be kind of hyperbolic. Unless it’s referring to how many of them literally sprint away when he comes to talk to them lol. I look at it more like a commentary on how thoughtlessly the PT act as soon as their wishes are granted. I know it’s set up linearly for story purposes, but isn’t it kind of sad how no one checks up on Akira in the week he’s going around talking to people? Especially after he’s been acting so comparatively weird? It’s not unusual that they might be caught up in other stuff, but while you’re going around and visiting everyone, you don’t get a single text or call from ANY of the thieves, for a whole week!! Goro even comments on it directly with his pointed little “I’m sure you’re just as close as you were before” comment. God, he’s such a bitch. Ultimately, the PT do get their acts together, and it’s partially out of the realization that Akira is struggling alone against something and needs their help, which I love and appreciate. I think they are good friends who want to support Akira, but they can’t understand him past the role they’ve placed him in, and until they do, they’ll never be able to be what he needs. Akira loves his friends and knows he can rely on them in most ways, but those relationships will always be dogged by the pervasive fear that he must constantly earn the right to have the relationship at all. What he needs MOST is someone he doesn’t have to perform for, and from what we see in the game, none of the thieves fit that bill. Except Goro. 
I know this was long and rambly and probably pretty disjointed but I wanted to be as thorough as possible and all of my thoughts just sort of gushed out. Obviously ymmv about all of this depending on how you interpret the game, but this is what I arrived at thanks to my analysis so this is what I have for you! Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
