i love this story, i love the history inspiration, i loooove the artwork, right now i especially love to see these characters grow. i love seeing the different directions their character arcs are taking them and at what stages they are in their personal development and that all characters get exposition, i love to see what events are impacting which characters which way, i love the lore, i love the gore and the intensity and that so many characters die dramatically (though at some point my heart might need a break), i fucking love everything about this manga right now and i am so glad that i am barely a third of the way through

Are you still doing the unpopular opinions meme? 🔥 Naruto leftist discourse (and a precision: since Naruto Tumblr is the home of Naruto fans criticizing the Shinobi System and the narrative and so a huge chunk of the critique of the show on here is centered on those aspects, do you think people sometimes go too far and take it too seriously or don't take it seriously enough, etc.)
Hi! Yeah I’m still doing the ask game!
Yeah I do think there are times I see people taking it too seriously and people not taking it seriously enough. I think it’s good and important to be able to see how the stuff the show frames positively re: the shinobi system is really fucked up and to be able to see that Sasuke’s perspective is fundamentally correct despite him being vilified, and to be able to see that the ideas of morality that are being presented are very hypocritical and at times pretty awful. And when people who are actively engaged in Naruto discourse on here choose to dismiss or make fun of that analysis it does bother me, because I know they’ve had it explained to them and still refuse to see it.
That being said when it comes to the fandom on Tumblr it matters much more to me that people understand the problems with the show’s messaging than that they like the same characters/ships as me, and while there’s some characters that I don’t really see the appeal of and somewhat distrust the opinions of most of their fans, and vice versa characters I love and distrust the opinions of people who dislike them, I care more that people generally understand why the show’s messaging around genocide and its condemnation of the use of violence to resist a violent system are bad. I think getting super vitriolic towards people based on their subjective feelings about characters or ships is a bit embarrassing to witness. And similarly getting really vitriolic over people like not taking things seriously enough because they ship [x] or whatever or have some minorly flawed take, and claiming that they’re inherently selfish and morally depraved or something because of that is like kind of absurd to me lol, like it’s genuinely not that deep.
Also when people compare in-universe events to actual real-life atrocities it’s taking it a bit too far imo. I also think that while there are definitely connections between people’s opinions on fiction and their politics, and fiction is inherently political, you can’t reliably extrapolate people’s irl politics from their opinions about Naruto like I know people who are definitely leftists who I think have mundanely bad naruto opinions bc they’ve just never thought that deeply about it until I talked to them, and I’ve run into a couple of people on here who were Sasuke stans but turned out to be politically conservative, like there’s no clear line you can draw and it’s a bit weird to think that way imo. Also when people like to claim that Sasuke stans are like using Naruto discourse as a substitute for political engagement it’s hilarious lol like why don’t you think people can have hobbies like talking about fiction they like and also be politically engaged irl, they’re not mutually exclusive.
I think the reason leftists are drawn to analyze Naruto this way is partly because it illustrates really well the hypocrisy of systems that are inherently violent but treat resistance towards the status quo as the only real form of violence, and also illustrates how a militarized profit-based system affects lots of characters in different ways on a personal level. And I think Sasuke does develop a (flawed but still powerful) revolutionary ideology over the course of the story, and he has a big pivotal role in the story, and that resonates with a lot of people, myself included. He’s also a really complex and sympathetic character imo who manages to both feel very real and human and grow and change in meaningful ways (e.g. not just be the mouthpiece for a certain political viewpoint) and also opposes the dominant system at the same time.

god ok. paion's childhood in amaurot is sooo naruto-esque…he was ostracized by many people who blamed them for the loss of maiming of their loved ones due to him losing control of his powers as a child. amaurotine child-rearing and learning systems aren't equipped to handle or teach aeolian children how to master their specific abilities, and little is known about the aeolians by the world at large simply because they are (and always have been) a very secretive people. 11 of the convocation's seats at the time were present for the incident where he full transformed at the tender age of 13 and began to spawn terrible final days-esque monsters that also lashed out and attacked people at will because they born of the pain, confusion, sorrow and fear paion that was experiencing at the time (and one of these monsters got loose and was tracked down and destroyed by venat, which is part of her canon lore of "taking down a towering monstrosity born of a child's errant imagination.") when this happened, paion was having a really bad day and was full of pent-up feelings of abandonment and he'd been quiet for so long, he'd neither sang nor spoken to anyone since he'd arrived, and everything just sort of exploded and poured out of him all at once. the convocation, athena, and a lot of of other people essentially sealed paion's voice for both his own safety and that of others, because they couldnt bear the thought of imprisoning him in pandaemonium, since that would be very fucked up and inhumane (and he was, or seemed to be, a person after all, and a CHILD at that, although many admittedly came to question his personhood after this.) he is and always has been immensely powerful, in a way that can all too easily become destructive. there's also a number of people who treated paion with respect and reverence out of fear, referring to him as 'master paion' when he was all of like. 14, at some point after The Incident. ofc, paion did not transform or kill anybody intentionally, as he is not and never has been a violent or malicious person. (summarily, paion's voice is used to manipulate aether, and can invoke certian moods within the listener, and since paion possesses exception hearing to the point of having the ability to hear aether and sense its vibrations in a way that rivals hyth's soulsight, essentially what happenend is that he way trying to sing in order to vent, but he got caught in his own feedback loop of despair.)
it's not even really something that i think negatively reflects on amaurot or laha and athena's parenting skills tbh, it was just an unfortunate combination of circumstances nobody was well-equipped to handle. the convocation forbade anyone from speaking abt this, especially to paion…but that didn't stop certain people who knew what had happened from holding it against him anyways. an unintended side effect paion experienced as a result of the partial sealing of his voice, he was unable to use his sound-based equivalent of creation magic to great effect, causing him to struggle with some of the basics (and thats on top of the fact that his method of creation is a different beast altogether than way that the ancients of etheirys channel and manipulate aether, although there is some level of commonality/overlap.) while he excelled at book-learning, he struggled with the application aspects.

AU: None/Cannon
Words: 1351
Rating: General
Pairings: Hatake Kakashi/Umino Iruka
Warnings: None
Summary: Kakashi has noticed Iruka struggling with a few things now that they’re older. He decides to try and help his husband out in any way he can, without being noticed.
Shinobi die young. That’s what Kakashi had always been told growing up. Even the best of the best would be lucky to see old age, either falling in battle or succumbing to their wounds after a mission.
Only the lucky ones lived to see retirement.
He had been lucky for his generation, and retirement was sweet. No more missions to go on, no endless amounts of paperwork waiting for him each morning at the Hokage’s office, and no students in need of being moulded into soldiers to fight wars that he no longer could.
Retirement was sweet, and it was even sweeter with Iruka by his side.
Of course, there were some negatives to living a long, fulfilling life. For Kakashi, it was Arthritis, hearing loss, and busted knees from years of use and abuse. For Iruka, it was a decrease in his visual range and increased forgetfulness.
Kakashi adjusted well enough to his issues. Specialized equipment around the house to help make it easier to do certain things made his life a lot easier than it had been a few months ago.
For Iruka, it wasn’t as easy to adjust. He tried to keep a calendar for appointments but always found himself misplacing it or forgetting to write things down. And his depth perception had gotten so bad that he often missed his coffee mug when he tried to grab it or dropped his house keys on the floor instead of inside of the bowl that they kept by the door for them.
The worst was when he was trying to eat ramen. With his depth perception slowly starting to fail him, there was more than one occasion where he had either missed the bowl completely while trying to eat or spilled boiling ramen directly onto his lap.
It was a growing concern for Kakashi. One that he wanted to help with as much as possible. Of course, he didn't want Iruka to catch him trying to help. Iruka was a proud man, even if he did try to keep that little aspect of himself hidden.
Organized, prompt, careful. That was what Iruka had been known for all his life, and no matter how much he struggled these days, he was still proud of those traits and determined to keep them.
So Kakashi had to find ways to help his husband out without getting caught and risking the wrath of a proud ex-Academy principal.
Sometimes that help involved nudging Iruka’s coffee cup a bit closer or a bit further away, depending on where it was and where Iruka was reaching for. Avoiding a spill all over the table that could run down onto their legs, or a completely missed coffee cup and that annoyed ‘tsk’ that Iruka made whenever he was disappointed in himself.
Other Times, it was a bit more difficult. If Iruka had an appointment with the doctors Kakashi would make sure to write it down on the calendar they kept in the kitchen and his own personal calendar. He would also ‘remind’ Iruka the day of the appointment by asking him what time his appointment was at. There was always a panicked note in Iruka’s voice while he tried to figure out what it was Kakashi was talking about, but as soon as he looked at the calendar and saw the appointment that Kakashi had written down for him he relaxed and started to get ready.
At the end of the day though, he usually succeeded. Major spills and missed appointments were avoided. Of course, when it came to more personal plans, Kakashi usually preferred to remind Iruka about them just before he was supposed to leave the house.
It allowed him to sneak in a few extra minutes of cuddles.
“Are you coming?” Iruka called from the bedroom, pulling Kakashi out of his thoughts and back to the present moment. Before his thoughts had started to wander he had been looking at himself in the mirror. Examining every wrinkle and grey hair and thinking about how much he had aged over the years.
How much more life he had gotten to see, with Iruka by his side. A small smile tugged at his lips. “On my way.” He called back, checking his face once more before finally turning around and heading back into the bedroom. There, lying in bed with a hand stretched out towards him was Iruka.
Light of his life.
The best thing to ever happen to him.
“You took your sweet time in there,” Iruka teased. “Trying to avoid coming to bed?”
“And miss out on extra cuddles?” throwing the blanket back, Kakashi fell back into the bed with a groan and waited for Iruka to carefully place the blanket over his body. “Not a chance. You’re stuck with me, don’t forget that.”
“Oh no, such a terrible fate has befallen me,” Throwing a hand over his forehead, Iruka fell back against the bed and sighed dramatically. “Whatever shall I do? How can I continue with my life knowing that I am stuck with Konoha’s prettiest boy?”
And people called Kakashi the dramatic one.
Turning onto his side to face his husband, he slipped an arm around his waist and gently bumped his nose against his shoulder. “Konoha’s prettiest boy, hmm?”
“Don’t act like you don’t know,” Iruka reached over and smacked him in the shoulder lightly. “Even at our age, there are still people who can’t help but turn and look at you. I don’t blame them of course. You’ve hardly aged at all since you were twenty-seven.”
Lies. He had so many new wrinkles and more grey hairs than he could count. Though, the bonus of having silver hair from birth was that other people couldn’t see the grey hairs he got. Not like the ones that had started to take over Iruka’s beautiful brown hair years ago.
“I think they’re wrong,” he smiled, pressing a tender kiss against Iruka’s shoulder. “I’m the lucky one here. I got to marry the cutest boy in the whole world. How can you get better than that?”
“Oh I don’t know,” turning his head, Iruka returned Kakashi’s gesture with a gentle kiss against his forehead and chuckled when Kakashi instantly melted into him. “I think I win in the end though. After all, my husband likes to do small things that he thinks I won’t notice just to make my life easier. Like shoving my coffee cup closer to me this morning, or reminding me that I had lunch plans with Naruto at Ichiraku Ramen.”
His little actions hadn’t gone as unnoticed as he’d originally thought.
“And you don’t mind?” he asked, a little confused by the fact that Iruka wasn’t giving him a lecture. “Mr. ‘proud Academy principal’ doesn’t mind that his husband helps him out once in a while?”
“Even the best Academy principals need help once in a while,” pressing another kiss against Kakashi’s forehead, Iruka chuckled when he was rewarded with a soft grunt. “Thank you, Kakashi. I appreciate it.”
Burying his face into Iruka’s neck, Kakashi mumbled a soft ‘you’re welcome’ against his skin. He hadn’t thought it was a big deal. It was his job to help Iruka out when he could. To make his life easier.
Iruka repeated himself with laughter in his voice, whispering the words against Kakashi’s forehead over and over again. It was embarrassing that he had been caught so easily. Especially when he had been trying not to let Iruka know what he was doing, but he’d be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy the recognition of his efforts. That hearing Iruka saying those sweet ‘thank you’s ‘ to him didn’t make his stomach twist up in knots.
Even after all the years, he had spent married to Iruka, he couldn’t help but feel like he had won an award whenever his husband thanked him for the little things that he did.
That’s what being in love was like, at least in his experience.
Feeling like there was no better accomplishment in his life than just being there for the man he loved.

warning: this post is just me ranting about the writing of the naruto women for far too long
i honestly feel that one of the most frustrating/vaguely hilarious aspects of naruto is how naruto ended up being - and bear with me here - the best example of the extremely specific female archtype that kishimoto seemed to be obsessed with.
like when you focus on sakura and hinata - arguably the most important female characters in the show as the two male leads’ respective end game love interests - you can break them both down into the same general mold:
- both devoted to the same boy their entire lives
- both are shown chasing after their crush in order to stand on “equal” footing (i.e. sakura’s “i finally caught up to them” and hinata’s “no longer chasing but standing by your side” mentalities)
- both suffer and try to overcome feelings of inferiority in their respective character arcs
and i want to be clear that while female characters who fit this mold aren’t usually my favorite thing it can definitely still work when written carefully and written well -  to be blunt i personally think both hinata and sakura are awesome character concepts and both had SO MUCH potential and i love their fanon interpretations but i feel that canonically they were poorly written, underdeveloped, and flat characters
most of their canonical character motivations revolve around their love interests - which really sucks because i would have KILLED for a deeper look at everything involving hinata and the hyuuga or even more about sakura’s development of her medical ninjustsu so much got skipped when it came to them which definitely didn’t help anything - that aside this is especially true in og naruto though to be fair - sasuke was still in konoha in og naruto and team seven was together for most episodes which made it especially prevalent in sakura’s case
the point is by the time shippuden came around it was extremely obvious that efforts were being made to improve the female characters - sakura now had much higher combat ability from the start of shippuden and, though she gets much less focus hinata is repeatedly shown doing brave acts and pushing herself to become stronger. and while i really loved the effort and it was definitely an improvement from especially sakura’s original character - it still fell flat to me.
sakura’s fight with sasori was perfect and a great way to revive her character but then she was pretty stagnant in a lot of the following arcs - i.e. injured in the reunion arc, not very important during the two saviors arc, her weird fake love confession during the assembly of the five kage arc, etc. - she constantly bounces between “now i’m strong” and “i still don’t measure up” making her character development - especially pre-war - virtually nonexistent because every step forward gets followed by a step back.
hinata is a bit more difficult simply because she’s such a minor character for so much of shippuden which is insane since she’s literally the protagonist’s future wife. regardless, looking at hinata’s big moments: her fight with neji in og naruto, blocking naruto from pain in shippuden, and the Smack during the war (there’s a few i’m missing i’m sure but those are really what constitutes her biggest moments to me during the meat of shippuden’s actual development phase - not the post war resolution phase) two of three of these moments precede her getting very heavily and soundly beaten which personally irks me - even if i don’t particularly like it i can see why and it makes sense to me she didn’t win the fight with neji or her pain confrontation and it definitely shows that she is brave and emphasizes the all-important devotion to her love interest aspect of her character BUT it’s also a little obnoxious that we never get to see her be REALLY victorious in her major moments.
so to sum up so far: sakura and hinata are both meant to be perceived as innovative and strong female characters but this perception doesn’t work in sakura’s case because she immediately repeatedly reverts back to the damsel in distress archtype and it doesn’t work in hinata’s case because the few strong moments she has are highlighted by failure.
and also the all important point that the majority of their “strong moments” are driven by their love interests - not a bad motivation except for the fact that that is one of their ONLY motivations
to the main point i’m trying to make: lets compare naruto (obviously take this with the understanding that naruto has a MAJOR advantage of having way more screen time and development as the titular character)
in regards to sasuke, naruto:
- is extremely devoted
- repeatedly chases after sasuke to match-up with him and improve
- and, especially in og, struggles with feeling inferior to sasuke
the context is a little different and the motivation behind some of the points changes between the two but it’s the exact same mold as sakura and hinata
the major difference between the two and the main reason that so many more people get frustrated with sakura’s devotion to sasuke and not naruto’s really boils down to development
sakura barely had her own character outside of loving sasuke and when she did, it immediately got downplayed in some way - just look at the war arc and her triumphant “i finally caught up to them” right before both sasuke and naruto essentially gain godlike powers, she then spends the war constantly distracted by sasuke even when fighting “sasuke isn’t worried about me at all” which really downplays her role.
on the flip side, even with his main goal of bringing sasuke back to the village, naruto has tons of motivation and character building outside of sasuke - ex. becoming hokage, gaining everyone’s acceptance, fixing konoha, living up to his parents/jiraiya’s expectations, bringing peace, protecting everyone he can, freeing the tailed beasts, etc. etc. you could go on forever the show is named after him after all.
we are told that sakura always chooses sasuke and nothing else about it but then we are told that naruto chooses sasuke despite everything else.
to sum up: the traditional female love interest that kishimoto wants to invent is the woman who is devoted. she puts the person she loves above everything else because she loves him. she’d do anything for that person even if it puts her at risk, etc. but at the end of the day there’s still the tired trait of still relying on the man in her life for certain things. and he doesn’t bother to expand characters like sakura and hinata beyond that. (great examples of characters who are almost completely separate from this mold are tsunade and temari - though one might argue about the way they were written designed to fit specific tropes for comedic moments - personally i think they manage to dodge that for the most part though)
with naruto and sasuke - naruto manages to fulfill every roll sakura is meant to in a much more elaborated and better way all without the curse of the female love interest that sakura and hinata bear. it’s hard to accept sakura and hinata’s “i’ll love you no matter what” when naruto is already actively outright doing that with sasuke. the roots of sakura’s feelings for sasuke, hinata’s feelings for naruto, and naruto’s feelings for sasuke are all exceptionally similar to one another which is what shoots kishimoto’s main romances in the foot - because it’s hard for them to measure up to the main “platonic brotherly” relationship he built between sasuke and naruto.
this post is obviously disregarding a lot of the Other really deep parts of sasuke and naruto’s relationship and some important points about the other women of naruto. also it’s important to think on the time period naruto and naruto shippuden were written in. we’re in a major incline period for improvement in how women are presented in fiction - just look at the difference of women between og and shippuden. obviously it doesn’t completely excuse anything but it’s a point to consider.
sorry for the rant and sorry if this is all really obvious to you or if it’s worded poorly, kinda just needed to word vomit my thoughts. i really like analyzing how women are represented in fiction and how the representations have developed over the years. i wrote a few essays about it for some of my courses and now i think about it all the time. obviously i’m not claiming this is how everyone should view these characters or anything i just had lots of my own thoughts about the entire situation and dynamics that i had to put SOMEWHERE. if you have any thoughts about it or points you wanna bring up feel free to do so i love fiction analysis a lot so i love hearing other people’s opinions

For asks: 1, 11, and 13 (where xxx=Kabuto) 🥰
What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?*
S*suS*ku. LOL. Like most other ships I don't like- I can at least get why people ship them for the most part. But like.....this is literally the worst pairing to me that isn't like a pedo/incest/ect type ship.
I don't get how someone who actually enjoys either one of those characters in the pairing would want them together, S*su or S*ku stan alike lol. Like. It just doesn't make sense to me at ALL.
11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
I'm 99 percent sure Kabuto counts here because Naruto fans often look at me like I just took crack in front of them when I say I like Kabuto.
Liking Kabuto was a really funny process for me- because I came roaring into Naruto and as soon as I saw Orochimaru deep throat a scroll it was over for me. I was dickmatized. I had to see what that tongue do!!!!!!! Kabuto was a figure present in my mind and while I thought he was kinda cute, in like, a dorky bulliable way he was moreso there for me to mock. I called him a cuck so many fucking times. I'm so sorry Kabuto lmfaooooooo. Am I though?
When he went batshit and decided to grind up Orochimaru's corpse to inject in his veins and get all snake-y. There I was again. Losing my mind. He was hot. The character I had been mocking for like a few months was the hottest fucker on the series. ALL MY FRIENDS WERE CLOWNING ME FOR THIS. I WAS THE ENTIRE CIRCUS!!!!!!
The thing that pushed me over the edge that cemented him as my favorite in the entire series was the backstory though. The tragic backstory. Shit hooks me like nothing else will. Especially considering certain beats of it hit very close to home for me in ways that just straight up made me feel like I was getting Izanami'd for like two days afterwards. I still love Orochimaru a lot and it might be because I spent too much on merch regarding him (that looks sick as fuck btw.) and the fact I'm still a sucker for androgyny and snake bitches, but like before Kabuto's backstory I was just kind of ignoring every single major red flag about him until I was faced with a mirror of sorts reflecting certain aspects of my own trauma and I was like. Motherfucker. MOTHERFUCKER!!!! AAAAAAA
Sorry for the long winded explanation here.
13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character?
UNPOPULAR OPINIONS ABOUT KABUTO....
Kinda glad he doesn't have more fans. Let the few of us here that are obsessed with him be weird about him without having to fear weirder weirdos.
I'm sick of people who just treat him as nothing more than JUST Orochimaru's sidekick/malewife (ick)/pale imitation of him especially the people who just like wanna shit on him for trying to do what Orochimaru did like......watch his backstory or I will Izanami YOU mf!
He was kinda OOC in the Three Tails/Guren arc but I just don't really care too much because it was an enjoyable arc.
Snakey Kabuto > pre-full on snakey Power Arc Kabuto. His hair is very cute in Power Arc tho.
And my most controversial of all
I think he looks GOOD IN SAGE MODE AND I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE ELSE SAYS ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!

Astrology of Sasuke, Itachi and Naruto: a semi-comprehensive analysis
I’ve been wasting away months of my life on this task and I’m finally reaching relatively passable results. This is the fruit of my labour thus far.
I really tried to be as unbiased as possible and keep several different interpretations of the characters in mind but I can’t guarantee that my personal feelings and opinions didn’t seep through to some extent (specially with regards to that whole genocide thing). I also don’t like some of these characters as “people” so I’ll warn you beforehand, I ended up bad-mouthing Naruto and Itachi a bit.
This post is broken up into four sections.
Section one is a quick run up of the planets (only the ones I’ve been working on), houses and aspects.
Section two is about the signs I’ve chosen for the characters, how I’ve chosen the degrees, and natal aspects.
Section three is focused on degree interpretations.
Finally, we will have a quick look at synastry and composite.
I’ve used equal temperament house system and cross check with placidus though because I don’t have Konoha’s longitude and latitude I’ve used Japan’s ones. Also, in this post we are assuming that Naruto’s planet is earth and their moon (and other planets) functions the same way as ours.
The degree interpretations are supposedly translations of La Volasfera published by Sepharia in 1898 (the translations. La Volasfera is older), Walter Henson’s interpretations and Kozminsky’s interpretation in that order. Keep in mind that they lived in different times and some of the things they say reaaallly reflects that.
For aspect and midpoint calculations, I couldn’t be bothered to calculate everything by hand so I wrote a short program for it; however, I didn’t debug much. It should work fine but just in case something slips by, I’m giving a warning. I also didn’t proof read so please excuse any mistakes.
This is a long post. Any additional comments, opinions, ... are welcome.
Section one: Planets, houses, aspects and additional notes

sesquiquadrate (135): making a mountain out of a molehill, acting energetically without understanding consequences, putting a lot of energy but the more you try the less you get results but when you don’t try they work really well, minor, ...
Additional notes:
on a full moon sun opposite moon occurs. The moon would be 180-225 degrees away from the sun.
during the last quarter phase, the moon is 270-315 degrees ahead of the sun (Sasuke was born on this phase).
mercury is up to 28 degrees away from the sun and venus is up to 48 degrees away from the sun.
aspect between sun and moon could denote how you perceive the relationships between your father figure and mother figure.
neptune retrograde happens every year when neptune is opposite sun.
plutonian relationships tend to be controlling, obsessive, disrespectful, painful and manipulative but can be transformative and life-changing.
neptunian relationships and about falling for an idealized image and not seeing things for what they are, rose coloured glasses, a feeling of betrayal and disillusionment once those glasses are shattered, forgiving easily, lack of boundaries in both good and bad ways, worshiping someone and putting them on a pedestal and never seeing them for what they are (humans), overlooking vices that shouldn’t be over looked, ...
both neptunian and plutonian relationships can manifest in nice ways but generally they tend to not do that as both people involved would have to be quite “evolved”, mature and level-headed for that among other things.
Section Two: natal signs and aspects
We will start this section with Sasuke, then we will have a look at Itachi and then Naruto. I’ve checked to make sure that it is mathematically possible (though I didn’t get into retrograde cycles much) for the characters to have these placements both on their own and relative to each-other.
I put a picture of each character’s natal aspects and wrote which degree I used. If it is between several possible degrees I wrote it in orange, otherwise, it's green. I didn’t discuss the aspect interpretations much because this post would become far too long if I did. I also used pretty wide orbs because the exact degrees weren’t certain but the overall range was extremely likely.
Sasuke’s planets and house placements:
Ascendant: Capricorn 21-22 or 23-34 degrees
Sun: Leo 0-1 degrees (7th)
Moon: Taurus 22-23 degrees (4th)
Mercury: Leo 12-13 degrees (7th)
Venus: Cancer 15 degrees (6th)
Mars: Scorpio 12 degrees (10th)
Saturn: Cancer 28-29 degrees (7th)
Neptune: Libra 4-5 or 5-6 degrees (8th)
Pluto: Aquarius 10-11, 13-14, 15-16 or 18-19 degrees (1st)
His sun was decided by the author and fits him quite well so there is no need for speculation. Sun in the 7th seems iffy but he does only go for people he respects, deems as reliable/competent and all that (that sun-saturn conjunction in the 7th house) and some of his identity is based on his interpersonal relationships. He also has that passive, non-confrontational way about him where people intrude on his personal space and disregard his boundaries all the time and he really doesn’t react as strongly as one would expect.
There seems to be a common consensus about his Ascendant in the anime astrology community. It is also worth noting that capricorn ascendants are often mistaken as scorpios for some reason. He is driven, comes across as standoffish and serious, has a slight aloof way about him, it puts his mars in the 10th and his moon in the 4th which is perfectly him, ... (I actually considered cancer ascendant for him at first because he had those doe eyes, soft features, youngish face, paler than his brother/father, family oriented, ... but I was torn between that and capricorn and everyone said capricorn so capricorn it is.)
With regards to his moon, as I’ve already mentioned in my previous posts, I saw how Naruto was born on a full-moon and how the relationship between his parents had that masculine-feminine polarization and some other things and decided to put his moon in aries and if we were to calculate Sasuke’s moon with consideration to the moon’s average speed and the time between his birth-date and Naruto’s, we get moon in taurus (3rd decan, in his 4th house), and the degree will be explained in the third section but the house placement is apparent, given that Sasuke’s heart and comfort has always been with family, home and roots (clan). The cancer one also works because, again, heart with family and an innate gentleness and the 6th house can bring a need to be of use and good organization skills and an attention to order, efficiency and good dietary habits which he certainly does posses.
Mercury in Leo is self explanatory. It’s either this or cancer and his style of communication is blunt, straightforward, sarcastic, confident, direct and to the point, dramatic, ... and his learning style matches leo more than cancer.
Venus in cancer is one that I doubted quite a good deal and there isn’t a common consensus about it either. The options are gemini, cancer, leo and virgo. I’ve heard mostly leo and virgo but I personally think Cancer in the 6th house makes more sense than in Virgo in the eight. This is based on his aesthetic sense, my understanding of his values and his love style with the only person whom I’m 100% sure he loves (his brother). He really needed quality time to feel loved, he valued competence (6th house) and family (cancer), he cared about receiving compassion from loved ones more than many of the other characters, he expressed affection mostly through acts of service (6th house), he was verbally expressive and hugged his brother and all that so he wasn’t that distant or somber in his approach to expressing affection in general (cancer), he got sulky when his brother refused to spend time with him and pouted and blushed a lot (cancer), ...
Mars in scorpio is another thing where everyone is of the same opinion and it falling into the 10th house makes it even more fitting as he will be very driven and hyper focused on one thing and he can also spend a very long time not having anything to do with fun or sex or any of that. The 10th house is disciplined, it delays, it makes thing serious and it has much to do with self-restraint. This placement is very action oriented and Sasuke is exactly that (he doesn’t spend time just thinking about doing things or just talking about them, he does them).
Saturn in cancer aspecting both his sun and venus. He was only expressive and affectionate with people he was comfortable with and his relationship with his father and authority figures and his general demeanor practically scream saturn in hard aspect to sun. Misfortune in the home and family life and a rigid upbringing (military parents) which saturn in cancer can bring are also there.
Pluto is a generational planet but I’m convinced that it falls into Sasuke’s first house. He constantly attracts plutonic people, he has a mildly plutonic energy himself and if it’s there, it aspects a ton of his planets which would mean that in his relationships with people of his own generation, he would have a pluto heavy synastry (composite is a different matter).
The aspects didn’t quite turn out how I wanted but they do make sense in my opinion and he has that grand cross with pluto, moon, mars and mercury which is just perfect. His heart, his head, and his drive are all in conflict and there is quite a bit of intensity, issues related to power and control, ... involved.

Itachi’s planets and house placements:
Ascendant: Virgo 20-21 or 26-27 degrees
Sun: Gemini 17-18 degrees (9th)
Moon: Scorpio 20-21, 21-22, 24-25 or 26-27 degrees (3rd)
Mercury: Cancer 6-7 or 11-12 degrees (10th)
Venus: Taurus 6-7 or 8-9 degrees (8th)
Mars: Taurus 1-2, 3-4, 14-15, 16-17, 18-19, 24-25 or 28-29 degrees (8th)
Saturn: Taurus 24-25 degrees (9th)
Neptune: Virgo 23-24 degrees (1st)
Pluto: Aquarius 2-3 (I chose this but It still isn’t concrete enough, the last one also works), 5-6, 7-8 or 10-11 degrees (5th)
Again, his sun is canon and very fitting. Sun in the 9th house of philosophy and all that also fits his interests (this doesn't say anything about his competence).
He is very into that whole “I’ve plan everything” and he talked waaay too much about perfection and all that for him to not have some sort of strong virgo/6th house. His ascendant in virgo puts the house cusps in nice places too. I’ll copy this part from my previous post on the subject.
I considered virgo rising for him (but I’m not particularly attached to this idea)  since that would put scorpio as his 3rd house (intense relationship with siblings) capricorn (ruled by saturn which is restrictions and stuff) on his 5th (fun, children and all that), gemini on 10th (can easily change their persona and know by the general public as intelligent), taurus on 9th (likes philosophy and all that, tends to have different beliefs from what he was raised with (likely by family) and can be very stubborn about beliefs and once he finds them, is very unlikely to change them) and some other stuff.
Moon in Scorpio because I calculated and given the distance between his birthdate and Sasuke’s (if they are 5 years apart) his moon would either fall in sagittarius or scorpio and honestly, I think scorpio fits him more.
Mercury in cancer because he’s somewhat verbally non-confrontational (would rather deflect and run away, in his case he does that with lies and that stuff) and passive-aggressive and speaks in a vague way instead of just getting to the point and being clear and concise and he’s good at emotional talk in a sense (although that doesn’t necessarily mean he is comfortable with it).
venus in taurus because when he isn’t busy being genocidal or dishonest, he likes some pretty taurusian things like hanging out at traditional coffee shops and getting some sweets. He’s also aesthetically very close to his root (traditional japanese stuff) in terms of preference and taurus likes the familiar.
I calculated his mars and saturn sign after deciding Sasuke’s mars and saturn. It does match him in a way though. He has a taurusian feel in a way and he really seems to adore the look of security and stability (even when it’s not really there). Venus and mars in 8th because of his fascination and acceptance of the morbid, death and human nature. Also he has an inclination towards extremism in both his actions and adorations (that isn’t the same as being showy though).
Neptune in first because he obviously would have neptune in first. Those acting skills, a habit of dishonesty, being extremely inconsistent and unknowable, weak constitution, slow and lethargic movements, ... He has one of the worst manifestations of neptune in first in my opinion. And he should have more Than one planet in virgo.
Pluto in aqua in 5th solely because of sasuke and calculations, not because of what it says about him (though I also took synastry into account).

Naruto’s planets and house placements:
Ascendant: Leo 1-2, 3-4 or 5-6 degrees
Sun: Libra 17-18 degrees (3rd)
Moon: Aries 12-13, 13-14, 16-17, 17-18 or 20-21 (9th or 10th depending on house system)  or taurus 24 or 28 (10th)
Mercury:  it’s between virgo (2nd), libra (3rd) and scorpio (4th)
Venus: Libra 23-24 or 26-27 degrees (3rd)
Mars: sag 24-25, 25-26 or 29 degrees (5th)
Saturn: Leo 8-9 degrees (1st)
Neptune: Libra 6-7 or 7-8 degrees (3rd)
Pluto: same as sasuke since pluto is a generational planet and their birthdays aren’t that far apart (7th)
His sun is also canon.
His ascendant in leo makes sense because he was born late at night on the 10th of October and he has that leoish persona. There really isn’t much to say here, he embodies it. He has big movements, flamboyance, an outgoing “sunshine”y demeanour, ego-driven, loves to make everything about himself, ...
Moon in the 10th because his emotional security and self-worth and all that are very tied to what the general public thinks of him and he tries to achieve that through his career. Moon in aries and moon in taurus both fit him and the anime astrology community is also divided on this.
For mercury I have no clue.
His venus could be in virgo, libra, leo, scorpio or sagittarius. I calculated venus in libra from Sasuke’s venus in cancer and then I looked at the degrees and plenty of them fit Naruto and he does have the power of charm so I just left it at that. I eventually narrowed the degrees a bit and found a range I’m comfortable with (in terms of both aspects and degree interpretations).
I used to think his mars makes harsh aspects to both his moon and pluto but it could be just one of them, in the end it ended up being neither of them. I calculated his mars sign from Sasuke’s mars and sag in the 5th seemed pretty fitting specially since his hobby was pranking people and he is a bit of a trickster, his earlier battles also had some creativity.  I used to think his mars is in taurus but it didn’t work out. And honestly he talks about working hard more than he actually works so mars in the 10th was kind of off either way.
Saturn was also calculated based on Sasuke but saturn in leo works pretty well. He got reprimanded for his “fun” and he has a lot of self-esteem issues and simultaneously has a bloated ego and a pretty low opinion of himself. He was so insecure that he had no problem taking credit for other peoples work so there is that. Saturn conjunct ascendant can cause people to have a hard time expressing their true self, often receiving criticism for the way they present themselves/the way they are, they can also often feel like no one will every truly love/like them (as people).
Pluto in the 7th house is extremely fitting for him, in fact, I would go so far as to say that I can’t imagine it anywhere else. He’s controlling, he’s manipulative, he’s possessive, obsessive, he’s all about taking what he wants/needs from relationships while not giving an iota of care to what the other party wants or needs, he’s stalkerish, ... he manifests pluto in the 7th house in one of the worst possible ways.

Section Three: degree interpretations

Pluto : Same as Sasuke.
Section Four: Synastry and composite
Based on the degrees I used for natals, I drew up a composite chart and a synastry chart for sasuke and itachi as well as for sasuke and naruto but I wont be providing interpretations since that would make this post far too long. Note that some of these aspects might be wrong as not all degrees are certain.
Before we get started let me just clarify the difference between synastry and composite.
Synastry is conversations between different parts of people. An example would be if my mercury and your moon are in a nice harmonious aspect, I say something in my style of communication based on my thinking process, now you get what I’m saying at an emotional level because you feel the same way, your feeling process and my thinking process are similar, the way you express your emotions and the way I express my thoughts are close, so I get how you feel on a logical level and you get what I think on an emotional level.
Composite is the overall, combined energy of the relationship. Lets say you have a very rational and to the point way of communicating but then you meet this person and with them, for some reason, as soon as you meet both of you seem to communicate in an emotional, passive-aggressive way (strongly aspected composite mercury in cancer). Or if you have tons of things in common with someone, you communicate in a similar way, you like the same things, but you just can’t seem to think of a single thing to say to them. You meet and your mind goes blank, there should be a world of things to talk about but literally nothing comes to mind, the conversation is dry and an absolute chore and then you look at that composite and there’s a tight saturn (restriction, block) conjunct mercury (communication) and everything makes sense. It also says things like why you got together (composite sun), how people perceive your relationship (composite ascendant), ...
So lets go see how these characters relate to each-other on a cosmic level.
edit: I removed the composite to natals part because they require extremely tight orbs so it’s kind of risky for something so uncertain.
Sasuke-Itachi synastry:
Tumblr media
I forgot to erase that sun-sun semi-square (it’s out of orb) so just ignore it. Lots of harmonious saturn could lend itself to commitment and respect, lots of harmonious aspects to sasuke’s venus along with itachi’s sun in his 5th shows how fun and loving this relationship was for him (sasuke). Both their moons are getting lots of close aspects too. Those moon ascendant aspects and quick comfort and easy relating, an immediate emotional connection, Itachi’s mars aspecting Sasuke’s moon, ...
Sasuke-Itachi composite:
Tumblr media
So this composite sun (purpose, nature of the relationship) in cancer (family) is perfect. I wonder if this was a coincidence or if Kishi really looked this up. Ascendant in scorpio is pretty nice as well. Plenty of neptune, lots of pluto, ...
Composite sun in the eight very much paints their relationship, intense, obsessive, transformative and full of death (both metaphorical and literal). Composite moon in the third, communication is important to the health of their relationship and emotional security regarding it, ... There is plenty of stuff to unpack here so I’m not going get into it, specially since we don’t know much for certain.
Sasuke-Naruto synastry:
Tumblr media
An interesting point here is that naruto’s moon would be in sasuke’s 4th house of family so that explains why he sees his family in him. Also, like I mentioned, plenty of harsh pluto, harsh mars-pluto giving lots of energy which if directed well, can contribute to good teamwork against outside forces and if not will lead to petty yet emotionally volatile arguments and controlling behaviour.
I put the ascendant opposition aspect there even though it’s out of orb because kishi went out of his way to make them opposites in the way they present/carry themselves and their aesthetic so this aspect would probably exist.
Sasuke-Naruto composite:
Tumblr media
There are two extremely important personal planets missing here (jupiter and mercury) so the picture isn’t complete but based on what we have, we can tell quite a bit of the story.
Venus conjunct sun is a very good aspect which means the relationship makes the people involved in it feel good, have fun, ... Sun trine moon and venus trine moon are also great aspects to have so that’s nice. Mars trine saturn could make them more organized and better at acting together in a systematic way. Neptune trine mars could mean that they understand each other’s actions and drive (in a physical/tangible sense, not necessarily the reasons behind them) intuitively.
Sun square mars is similar to my previous point, lots of energy which will at best lead to working effectively together against outside forces and at worst will lead to violence, unhealthy rivalry/arguments and constant irritation.
Mars-neptune, not seeing the nature of the relationship properly, delusion, illusion, escapism, an unwillingness to see the relationship for what it is, ... neptune-saturn and lack of proper boundaries.
Ascendant in aries and the rival look, sun in virgo (coworkers, a work relationship), composite sun in the 5th, a fun, dramatic and creative relationship, composite moon in the first, projecting feelings about the relationship all over the place, it just can’t be hidden and the outside world sees you as emotionally tied together, perhaps more so than you actually are unless there are other strong moon aspects to personal planets, ...
One thing that is oddly not here is major pluto aspects, however, if lack of aspects to a planet in a composite chart is similar to a natal chart then it could make that planet’s themes more prominent because the energy has no proper outlet so it pops up everywhere.
Thank you for your time, any input is appreciated :))

Uchiha Itachi, a savior in the shadows
SPOILER ALERT!!, if you haven't finished watching Naruto, please refrain from reading.
To contextualize, this character comes from the manga serie called ¨Naruto¨, written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto, having its first publication in September 1999. This work tells the story of a ninja called Naruto Uzumaki, who has a goal and this is to become Hokage, that is, leader of the village, with the main purpose of being recognized by all the people of the village as someone important within it. Later, in October 2002, ¨Naruto¨ was published in his animated version by the director Hayato Date.
The village known as ¨Hidden Leaf Village¨ or Konoha (Konohagakure), it's composed of several ninja clans, among these is one of the most influential in the story of the serie, the Uchiha clan, which was part of village foundation in conjunction with Senju clan. The Uchiha clan have the particularity of make up the Konoha military police, having a very important role in the order of this. The Uchiha are very respected and it could be said that also are feared, as they are known to have a Kekkei Genkai (Bloodline Limit) called Sharingan, which is a visual technique (Dōjutsu), that grants abilities such as: seeing people's chakra flow, which can be useful to see chakra reserves, if it's alterated, among other utilities; an improvement in reflexes with this a better vision of the combat scenarios to be able to eventually come before, because the Sharingan sends images of the movements that are being visualized in advance to the brain. Some ninjas with this power have a more advanced illusion technique (Genjutsu). Sharingan evolves progressively, based mainly in the user training, is also known that characters who possess this power, awaken the Sharingan when they experience based on the loss of love or despair, thus causing a certain amount of chakra to break out in a sector of the brain that affects the optic nerves.
When talking about the Uchiha, it's almost impossible not to think about Itachi, as he was a very influential ninja in the story of the series, he is also one of the most outstanding and skilled members of the clan, being considered a prodigy ninja by many. Itachi Uchiha, son of Mikoto and Fugaku (leader of the clan and the military police) and older brother of Sasuke Uchiha, from a young age was a first-class student, graduating from the academy in advance, since having all the knowledge and skills and even more advanced than required, there was no point in it being there.
During his childhood, he always had a more mature vision in relation to life itself, constantly questioning topics as broad as life and death, the purpose of living, the reason for wars, among other unknowns that children hardly ever wonder. It's very hard and sad to think about everything Itachi lived when he was little, since on the one hand, he was present in the third ninja world war with only 4 years old, he also had to witness the death of one of his teammates when he was only a Genin, which incidentally was the cause of the awakening of his Sharingan, on the other hand it's not normal for a child to have to try to answer those questions described above, rather those are questions that adults frequent asking themselves. These experiences made Itachi's personality very peaceful, serene, but it should be noted that he was always a very sweet boy.
There was a very important event to understand some of the twists and turns in Itachi's life and this was the attack by the Nine Tailed Fox or Kyūbi on Konoha as a result of the action of a supposed Madara Uchiha (the masked ninja), this happened when he was just a child. As a result of the partial destruction of the village, there was a restructuring and relocation of the ninja clans and the Uchiha were literally aparted, which generated total discontent on the part of the clan. Part of the discontent is also due to the fact that never in the history of the village have there been "Hokages" from the clan, and considering that there have been empowered ninjas, such as Fugaku.
Itachi & Shisui
Itachi was one of the few clan members to awaken the Mangekyo Sharingan and this was because of having witnessed the suicide of his best friend. Itachi's best friend is called Shisui, who also belongs to the clan and like Itachi, he is a formidable ninja, very talented and powerful, even his Sharingan is considered to be one of the most powerful, but unlike Itachi, he was older than him. It should be noted that in his first appearance in the serie, he already had the rank of Jonin (the highest rank of ninja before the Hokage). Itachi and Shisui had a great philosophy in common, which was to end the fights and wars, in short, that there would be peace and thus not have to live more unnecessary deaths, they had the authentic will of the first hokage, the will of fire. As a personal appreciation, I have always considered that Kishimoto should have given more continuity and image to Shisui, since it only appears in some memories and in ¨Itachi Shinden¨ of ¨Naruto Shippuden¨ and for many (I include myself) he is a very beloved character despite of his minimal appearance in the serie.
The Massacre
At the age of 10 he had already passed the Chunin exams and shortly afterwards, at the request of his father, he entrusted him with the mission of joining the ANBU ranks. It should be noted that as a result of the discontent in Uchiha clan, they were planning to carry out a coup, so the father wanted Itachi to be a spy taking advantage of his influence as ANBU and at the age of 13, Itachi was already Captain of the ANBU units. Fugaku without knowing, Itachi was also being a spy for Konoha, so he was playing a double spy role. The authorities of Konoha, that is, the third Hokage (Sandaime), the advisers and Danzo, knowing that the coup d'état was imminent, entrusted the mission to Itachi to report everything that was planned and it is known that this coup This state was only going to lead to an upcoming ninja war, so Itachi started spying on his own clan and providing the information to Konoha. After this, Danzo meets with Itachi to inform him that he had to make a decision, clearly opposing what the Third wanted (which was a peaceful solution), this duality was to join the clan in the coup and die together with they either exterminate the entire clan, save Sasuke and become a traitor and criminal ninja. With the above, Itachi was already tasked with saving the village and being a hero in the dark.
Tumblr media
To exterminate the clan, Itachi asked to the supposed Madara Uchiha for help, with the deal that he offered to assassinate the clan only if the latter didn't attack the village again, after consensus, they proceeded to the total extermination of the Uchiha, except of his little brother Sasuke. After that event, Itachi meets with the Third Hokage and informs him that he would leave the village to join Akatsuki to watch over the supposed Madara and also to that organization, thus helping the village again and thus showing that he's an ally.
Akatsuki and Fourth World War
During his time in Akatsuki, Itachi always pretended to be a cold person, but little by little he gained the confidence of his companions based on his "loyalty" and his good ability as a sensory ninja. In one of his missions, he had to go to Konoha to collect information about the Orochimaru's attack and also about the Jinchuriki of the Kyubi, however, Itachi never intended to take Naruto, rather, he went to see the state of the village, showing his concern to know how Sasuke was, in turn showing the advisers that he was still alive.
Much later, in ¨Naruto Shippuden¨, Itachi dies at the hands of Sasuke, just as he wished (so he dies with a smile on his face) in order to tell him part of what happened in his life through a genjutsu and at the same time to be able to grant him an improvement in his ocular powers.
During the development of the Fourth War, Itachi was revived through the Edo Tensei (Reincarnation of the impure world), invoked by Kabuto and manages to free himself from the control of the latter with the help of Shisui's left eye (thanks to the raven that once been inside Naruto), after this Itachi goes directly to the hideout where Kabuto was, to confront him and stop the jutsu, in the course, he meets Sasuke and this last one begins to follow him. Once they arrive at the place, they both face Kabuto and manage to defeat him thanks to Izanami and by subjecting him to a genjutsu, he shows them the seals to stop the jutsu. Before Itachi returned to the pure world, he manages to convey his real feelings to Sasuke for the first time, having an emotional farewell. With this it can be seen that Itachi was one more ally in the war (something that was seen barely get out of the control of the Edo tensei user) and again affirm that he is a great savior in the ninja world.
Personal appreciation and conclusion
In short, there are plenty of facts to assert that Itachi was a true savior in the shadows of the ninja world, despite all the treasonous actions, he was literally a kid who had to deal with the problems of adults, having to go through traumatic experiences, that they made him a very resilient character. I really consider that he was very brave to have to leave behind his blood ties to be able to ensure the peace of the village, in addition to having to be very strong mentally to lie to his own brother throughout the story to protect it. In addition, Itachi is the full image of a person who puts the well-being of his neighbor above his own, who undoubtedly reflects loyalty to Konoha and love for his brother, which at the same time is the fundamental aspect of his personality.

The binary: realisations and rants
Can we talk about the gender binary a bit? Of course we can. It’s my blog, we can talk about Naruto or the impossibility of clown cars if I wish. So I’ve been thinking a lot about me after my break up as, I suppose, is normal. Thanks to this I’ve stumbled across an identity crisis I’ve been putting off for years. I’m non-binary and that’s a weird thing to just non-chalantly write down for me. See, I’ve spent years talking about how I don’t really care about gender. As a bisexual, I’ve had the conversation numerous times. As a stereotypically effiminate person I’ve spoken many times about how I’m comfortable in myself acting however I want because the gender stereotypes hold no interest to me. But I’ve never really bothered to delve into why.
It’s taken awhile to come to terms with being non-binary. It’s like coming to terms with my sexuality all over again. As usual, I’ve been presented a choice. The sexuality and identity fairy came to me twice now and happily asked “men or women” and I, in classic me style, didn’t really pay attention to the fact that there was a clear binary choice and only half listening just replied “Oh, no thank you!”
It’s difficult to live in a world defined by binaries and then realise you’re not really interested in participating. When I very first realised I might be non-binary a couple of months back, I got lost in a strange narrative. Do I need to start wearing make up? Should I make myself more androgynous, shave my beard? How do I present as non-binary? Of course the answer (For me) is you don’t. I should have really known that from the start because I had to do the same thing with my bisexuality. It took many years to get from “How do I let everyone know I’m bisexual?” to “I don’t really care who knows what my sexuality is and I have no desire to share that information.” I’ve approached being non-binary much the same. I get that people are proud of their sexuality and identity and seriously, good for them. That must be a nice thing to have. Thing is I’m not particularly proud. Let me see if I can put this into words.
So for me, sexuality and identity are both very matter of fact. I’m not proud of either of those aspects of me but don’t get me wrong, I’m not ashamed. The idea of being proud of either of those things is, for me at least, the same as being proud of having curly hair or brown eyes. Sure, there was some emotional turmoil coming to terms with my sexuality and identity but it’s not like these are things I had to strive and work for. They’re just facts. I don’t really care if people call me he or they. They feels a bit more natural I guess but it doesn’t particulalry bother me being called he. And note, I get called he because I have a beard and a masculine build. When I was a teenager with heavy eyeliner and long flowing hair I got called miss and she a lot and that never particularly bothered me either. I’ve never particualraly felt some kind of rage at being misgendered. I don’t really care that people assume I’m straight (I kind of care in that way of, Jesus dude open your mind and stop making assumptions but not enough that I’ve felt the need to correct anyone.)
Though I wonder how much this is a story I tell myself. Just like it’s difficult telling yourself actually, you’re not any of the traditional genders, telling yourself you don’t really care about presenting and pronouns in a community that’s so fired up about them feels weird.
“Welcome to the queer community! Would you like to be angry about misrepresntation of your sexuality or your identity?” The queer fairy politely but firmly asks.
“Ah, no thank you, I’ve already eaten.” Josh replies, not really paying attention to the climate or the question.
I even considered whether I’m supposed to change my name. Am I supposed to change my name to something a bit more androgynous? Maybe start calling myself Alex or Frankie or any other name that could be either gender? But I don’t want to. I’m just Josh. I’m a bisexual, non binary mess and Josh is my descriptor.
Should I care more? Should I be fighting some war against ignorance? Am I somehow doing a disservice by not participating?
Not participating is basically my default. “Here lies Josh, they didn’t participate.”
I kind of make life more difficult for myself by not divulging these things. People have asked me before “Are you gay?” and I just reply “nope!”. Then I get annoyed that people just assume I’m straight despite literally never giving any evidence to the contrary. I guess it’s just a problem with the system. My sexuality and identity are improtant to me but they’re personal. I’m not going to talk about them to work colleagues or friends anymore than I’m going to talk about my kinks.
“Hey Josh are you gay?” My well meaning but misguided colleague asks.
“Oh no, I’m bisexual, non-binary and I like scratching and biting during sex.”
You really going to just out your kinks like that online huh my dude? It should say enough about me that I feel a swell of anxiety to putting a fairly vanilla kink on a personal blog no one I know will ever read. Do I really want Tumblruser420 to know I like biting in bed? Feels like an overshare.
This really became a bit of a deep dive into gender identity huh? I guess I’m just going through some stuff.
Quick tangent, whenever I hear a noise in my house, despite having two cats that are always the cause, I need to check every room just in case. I even check the bathroom which only has one very small window next to the door. Just in case some sneak thief broke in through the plughole I guess. Some S’wit. Some N’wah.
God I’m just going through some Stuff y’know? I worry how much of my outlook might be down to internalised shame and not just non-chalant IDGAF attitude. I haven’t put Non-Binary on my tinder profile. I mean I have but I’ve set it not to show. I don’t know if that’s out of fear of being judged for it or simply because I haven’t come to terms with it myself. To be clear, I definitely haven’t come to terms with it myself yet. I have bisexual on my profile but I guess I’m still kind of ashamed of that.
Is it shame? I guess it’s more fear. Not like a fear for myself or my safety or anything. More a fear of people’s perceptions. It’s not even that I’m scared people will be shitty to me because of it. If that’s the kind of person they are, fuck them. I just don’t want to be “That queer one”. Does that make sense? I kind of hate to term cishet because it only seems to be used as derogatory but I need to use it a sec. I think the main reason I’m happy to just pass as cishet is because then I’m allowed to be a person. The second you’re something different that’s it. That defines you. I get it needs to be a conversation so people stop being ignorant and hateful but at the same time even just the discussion about it feels like it’s pushing me into this definition. Like being bi or being non-binary means I’m a certain kind of person.
I guess it’s the classic tale of any ism. Racism, sexism, homophobia...ism. I am bisexual. I am non-binary. But I don’t want to be the bisexual. Being defined by something like that, something so out of your control... It feels so... dismissive? I’m not a person anymore. I’m not Josh. I’m a bisexual. I’m non binary. I’m white. I present as a man. All that shit. This is starting to become a rant on the construction of society as a whole and the role of privelege and what that means huh?
I’m creative, emotional, witty. That’s what I’m defined by. That’s who I am. I’m not just some pigeon hole word. Define me by my facets, not my facts.
Realisations are a funny thing. I have a lot of realisations in my life and mostly I like them but this one leaves a sour taste in my mouth. It’s not that I don’t care, that much is apparent after this rant. I’m just so tired of it. I avoid all the discourse and conversations about any kind of identity issues because I’m tired of defending myself. It doesn’t matter where you fall on the spectrum. These kind of labels aren’t useful. They’re just a method of pinning something to someone that says “Can I just hate this person out of hand.” and it’s rife. It’s everywhere and it’s all the same. I don’t care if you’re having a rant about black people or a rant about cishets. It’s all just vicious hate. We live in a world where people are so desperate to have someone to hate because they’re different. Whether that difference is in the majority or the minority it doesn’t matter. Hating all men or all straights or all whites is no different from hating all trans people or all queer people or all black people. Hating all millenials because they’re special snowflakes is no different from hating all boomers because they’re not progressive. It’s just pure hatred because they’re different. Just blanket statements attached to something someone can’t control to give you a reason to say “Oh don’t worry, I’m allowed to hate them”.
Maybe keeping my identity or my sexuality to myself makes me a coward. Fine. I refuse to participate in these wars of hatred. I just want to spend time with my cats, fall in love, help people and laugh.
As always, as will be written on my gravestone one day, I refuse to participate. To all those people who fight for my ideal world on my behalf, thank you. To all those people on either side, progressive or traditional, just to hate one subset of people, go fuck yourselves. I’ll just be over here, trying to make the dying smile and trying to give people a little longer in this world to spend with the people they love.
That’s it. Rant over. I’m going to try and get another hour or two of sleep before work. I know it’s customary to drop the mic after a big speech but know if it felt like I did, I just fumbled putting it back into the mic stand and I’m trying to own it. If you look closely you’ll see that the blood has drained from my face and perspiration is clear on my forehead.

No tongue, please!
Sakura accepted her boyfriend had to be bad at something, but why did it have to be that?
Fandom: Naruto
Genres: Humor, Romance
Ships: SasuSaku
Relavant Characters: Sakura(PoV), Sasuke
Universe: Narutoverse, canon compliant
Content Warnings: Idk; stealth mention of cunnilingus, if that bothers anyone.
When Sakura was a child she was certain that there was nothing Uchiha Sasuke couldn't do.
It was a reasonable assumption to make, as she then only knew him as a boy her age who was good at throwing shuriken and looking cute while doing so, which was all most little girls in her village needed to develop a crush.
As the years progressed and they were assigned to the same team she found out Sasuke was good at many other things: He was good at all things ninja, even teamwork when he put his mind to it; He was good at managing his time to maximize the efficiency of his training regimen; He was good at using both hands to perform any task; He was good at winding up Naruto; He was good at cooking and cleaning; He was good at protecting his teammates even when it put his life on the line; He was good at making her heart beat faster; He was good at being hard to reach; He was good at saving the world; He was good at making bad, no good, terrible, horrible choices; He was good at making her forgive him for the aforementioned horrible choices; And he was good at walking away from her, then coming back, then walking away again, in a cycle she still didn't really understand.
Sasuke could do most things well on the first try, and when he couldn't his determination would invariably lead him to work hard to master any skill he thought was worth his while.
That is, except for kissing.
Uchiha Sasuke was really bad at kissing.
Oh, god, he was so bad at kissing!
He could manage a peck or two just fine, but whenever light touches would develop into full-blown snogging, Sakura had to wonder just what the hell was wrong with him.
It wasn't as if he hadn't tried to improve: When Sakura first told him about this issue he was undisturbed, listening to her advice and taking her pointers to the best of his ability – which they soon discovered was nonexistent. They spent a good portion of the following week making out with some regularity to no effect before she got tired of having her entire face covered in saliva and decided they needed some help.
They began searching for tips in magazines, studying the technique of couples in movies (and once in real life, but that hadn't turned out well), and Sakura had even casually brought up the topic to her parents and friends. Sasuke couldn't do the same, both because his parents were dead, and because there was just no way he could talk about kissing and make it sound casual. One problem with being known as a cool, badass, silent anti-hero type is that it seriously limits the number of acceptable topics of conversation you can choose from while maintaining street cred.
Their efforts were all for naught, though, because the last Uchiha seemed unable to grasp the minutiae of the delicate art of sucking face.
Sakura didn't understand why her boyfriend couldn't learn how to kiss. It wasn't as if her was bad at other aspects of romance. When he was in a mood to woo her (which admittedly wasn't very often) he could muster surprising gestures of affection and say the sweetest things, he could cuddle like what Sakura imagined a professional cuddler would cuddle like, and he certainly knew how to use his tongue in other ways, but she just didn't want it anywhere near her mouth.
Despite the zero percent rate of success they'd had so far Sasuke still insisted on trying again and again. She wondered if he did it because he genuinely liked kissing her that much or if he was just too embarrassed to give up. Both scenarios seemed equally implausible, as did his insistence to cover her entire mouth with his (really, she'd told him multiple times that nobody liked that) whenever the opportunity presented itself, and yet there they were.
Of course, Sakura loved him and would kiss him all day long if he really wanted it, but she couldn't help wondering if that was really the case. He was notoriously undemonstrative, and she suspected she was the only living person who could hug him out of the blue without getting socked in the Sasuke was doing this just because he wanted to please her she had to tell him he didn't have to go through such lengths, because she was satisfied with the physical intimacy they already shared. She didn't want him to feel inadequate because he was bad at something as inconsequential as frenching. She also didn't want to endure Sasuke's mutant tongue needlessly, but that was of secondary importance.
"Sasuke-kun," she began one night, after she'd wiped the evidence of their last practice session from her cheeks "I need to ask you something."
He hesitated, then nodded. Even if Sakura didn't know him well enough to notice that there was something wrong, his blushing cheeks were a dead giveaway.
"So, um… you know we don't have to do this if you don't want to, right?"
That seemed to startle him.
"Do you want to stop?"
"No, that's not-" she paused, unsure of how to proceed "It's just… If you don't want to make out as often it's fine by me, because I'm happy with the other things we do. So, if you want to stop, then..."
Sakura was starting to regret speaking about it. She hadn't seen Sasuke look this nervous in years, clenching his fists and looking away, so she knew whatever it was he was thinking about brought him no small amount of embarrassment.
"Only if you want to, of course!" she amended quickly.
Sasuke opened his mouth, then closed it, then repeated the same movement a few more times, still avoiding her eyes.
"I- I do like it," he spoke at last, and Sakura was momentarily floored by the effort he had to make to say those four words, until she remembered he still had difficulty opening up, to her or anybody else. He seemed to consider an admittance of enjoyment to be the same as an admittance of weakness.
Fine, so there were two things her boyfriend was bad at.
"But," he continued "I know I'm not any good at it, and I understand if you want to keep kissing to a minimum."
"No, Sasuke-kun!" she protested – more energetically than she would've expected under the circumstances – and touched his cheek to make sure he'd look her in the eyes and see what she felt "I'm happy. At first neither of us had any idea what we were doing, remember? I was just happy to be together, and I still am. I like kissing you, alright? I really do." And she was being honest, if only because she liked him.
There was only the tiniest change to his expression – a softening of the eyes, a relaxation of the jaw – but Sakura had grown familiar enough to interpret those signs and know she had placated his doubts.
"Besides, if we keep practicing you're bound to get better sooner or later!"
Sasuke never got any better at kissing. Neither the time they spent traveling the shinobi world, nor having a daughter together, nor years of marriage improved his technique, but Sakura didn't mind.
Back when she was a girl and thought he was perfect, when she used to fantasize about marrying him, she pictured a relationship of passion, of flowers and chocolate, or compliments that would make her blush, and kisses that would certainly be good and make everyone else impressed and jealous of their love. She couldn't have fathomed how different things would be, much less how her adult-self would be happier like this.
Her husband's spontaneous demonstrations of affection were discreet, gentle, tentative, as if she'd evaporate from his touch otherwise. He rarely bought her presents, but she couldn't imagine a greater gift than the blind trust he placed on her as a kunoichi, a medic, the mother of his child. He didn't write her poetry, but he listened to and considered everything she said, no topic of conversation being judged as unimportant, even if he didn't really care about redecorating the living room or the birthday party Ino threw for her son. His kisses didn't make anyone envious, but Sakura was always glad to receive them, because they were his.
Sasuke was utterly hopeless when it came to kissing, but Sakura wasn't going to complain. She loved that man, shoddy osculation skills and all.

Send 🎰 for me to put our muses into a random list generator then post the first five as potential ships!
Zerine and Hiyori
Obviously, these two would have a ten year age gap, which could either be an aspect of their relationship, or they could meet when Hiyori was older. Regardless, my knowledge of Naruto is quite slim ( I’ve read the first five tankobons, and that’s it ), so I’m going off the information present on your blog; apologies if I get anything wrong! It sounds like Zerine would be quite difficult to ship with, and I’m not sure if you would be open to shipping with her, given her personality/history. On the chance that she is a muse you’d like to ship, though, I could try to craft a Naruto verse for Hiyori. Maybe he’s someone who was almost operated on by similar doctors who killed her brother, and she rescues him. Upon waking up, he decides to help her in her mission to hunt down those who commit similar atrocities. Hiyori is undyingly loyal, and he’s accustomed to being completely alone, so even if she wasn’t necessarily friendly or nice to him, the fact that she saved his life would endear her to him. Perhaps they grow closer and a romantic relationship forms or maybe not, or it’s one-sided on Hiyori’s end…who is no stranger to unrequited love, either.
Yugao and Sebastian
These two have almost matching hair! That was my first thought, haha. I think Yugao could potentially bring out a softer side of Sebastian, and once he’s comfortable with her, he goes out of his way to bring her little gifts that remind him of her or things that she likes. In his main verse, he likes to stand by the river near his home and look up at the moon; I could see them doing that together and just enjoying one another’s company. Sebastian needs someone who is willing to understand his mental health issues of depression and anxiety, and I feel like Yugao could be someone capable of that? He’s used to being judged, especially by his family, and he could find solace in her. Likewise, if this is in a verse where she’s recovering from Hayate’s death, Sebastian would be very patient in reaching the point where the two of them could grow together romantically. They’d both be badass ninjas, and Sebastian would help her destroy anyone who tried to hurt her or jeopardize her missions, only to later that day bring her a little white stone that reminded him of the moon, and is very gentle. Modern verses are always a possibility, as well!
Sango and Kuroo
I used to roleplay Miroku like…three years ago now, I think? I love Sango a lot as a character, too. I have a verse where Kuroo is a bakeneko ( his abilities consist of the skill to easily provoke/manipulate others when desired, even to the point of convincing the dead to speak for a short period of time, shifting from a human form to a cat at will, and performing extremely low level curses ). It would be fun to adapt that for an Inuyasha verse where he and Sango end up meeting. I feel like it’d be funny if he stayed in his cat form for a while and when he eventually shifts back, Sango is ridiculously confused, although she might immediately kill him as a precaution, which would sink the potential for that ship pretty fast, haha. Kuroo’s mother left their family when he was young, so possibly Naraku ended up killing his father, who was the only person he had. If he and Sango teamed up, that would lead to some great opportunities to open up to one another. Kuroo is reserved emotionally like Sango is, so it’d have that much more impact when it finally happened. He can also be a tease and likes figuring out what pushes people’s buttons, so I could see him attempting to pull a more playful side from her, as well. There’s also the potential for modern verse interactions as well, if that’s a verse you have for her.
Kaname and Hughes
I know very little about Bleach, so I feel like I might get things horribly wrong and apologize in advance. Hughes and Kaname both have very strong feelings about the way they believe the world can be “saved,” which I think could be very interesting. However, Hughes might be less idealistic than Kaname, which could either lead to them being incompatible or perhaps leading them both to consider things in different lights, even if their overall opinions don’t change. In a Bleach verse, the most feasible way for them to be together is if Hughes has also joined Aizen, and Kaname takes on a role in his life similar to Roy in his main verse. He would appreciate Kaname’s belief in avoiding bloodshed as much as possible, and he’d probably take it upon himself to take care of certain situations so that Kaname wouldn’t have to go against his principles any more than necessary. Hughes would want to protect Kaname from that aspect of what they’re doing, but he knows Kaname is strong, which is exactly why he would place so much trust in him. They could definitely fall under the potential for “comrades in arms who fall in love,” if romance is a possibility for Kaname. If not, it could be similar, but they’re just close friends.
Naomi and Atsushi
I could see this working if they met in a modern verse where Atsushi is older and has perhaps become an offender profiler who works closely with the FBI. If they were assigned to a case together, that would lay the groundwork for a friendship that eventually grows into something more. Atsushi and Naomi actually have a lot in common, and I think they’d experience the same pitfalls in their careers. It would allow them something deeper to connect on, and they could become each other’s confidante. Workplace romances are always enjoyable, as well, as they fall in love but try to place their cases first. Atsushi loves to cook, and would probably make curry for Naomi some evenings when he doesn’t have to work late. He has a lot of his own self-doubt, but he would always encourage Naomi not to have them for herself. They could be two people in a similar field who grow to have a deep understanding of each other that forms into something more.
if you’re interested in pursuing any of these, feel free to message me!

Hi two questions! If you’ll take them. Question 1. On your blog it says Boruto free-zone, but do you like Gaaras son? Idk his name, I don’t watch the show but I would like to get on opinion on him. Question 2. I’m writing a LeeGaa fanfic and was wondering if you had any tips about writing them. I’m a little worried about making them OOC, like I am all fics honestly but I really want to get this right before posting. And tips? Thanks, love your blog!
Hi, anon! Sorry for not getting to this sooner. It’s been a long week to say the least. I hope I can give satisfactory answers to your questions because I’m still exhausted and a lil bit sick from my move this past weekend.
As far as Gaara’s son, Shinki: I think he’s a good kid, but it’s very unoriginal writing in terms of his origins and his personality. He’s Gaara 2.0. I have nothing against him and I think he’s an adorable lil goth child, but as with all the Boruto kids they’re just different versions of their parents with slightly different backstories and in a lot of cases a lot less trauma. I don’t really think there’s anything compelling about the series–the stakes seem pretty low compared to Naruto, the writing is just not good, and I was always more invested in the original Naruto characters. Boruto is a cash cow–it’s piggy-backing off of Naruto’s success to keep making money off people emotionally invested in the series.
Now, the big question: Since I don’t know what you’re writing, all my advice is going to be pretty generic, but obviously you’re welcome to ask more questions and even send me private messages to chat.
So I think it can be really dependent on the fic in question–like if you’re writing a modern AU, you really have to figure out what makes the characters who they are and what is the inherent draw between the two of them, then divorce them from all Naruto context. They aren’t child soldiers, they don’t have ninja magic, there’s no tailed beasts, etc. Any AU is going to be a little more complicated because you have to think about how you’re approaching the characters more creatively.
If you’re writing in canon, then it’s a little easier because you don’t have to take them out of Naruto-world and put them elsewhere while still maintaining the characters.
I have recently answered a similar ask about this sort of thing, though it was specific to the characters, which is of course important, but if you haven’t looked at this post, it’s a good place to start in terms of who Gaara and Lee are, because ultimately if you’re not writing the characters correctly, the relationship will also suffer in terms of the writing. This is also a good post in terms of general writing advice, and you can also go through my gaara, lee, or gaalee tags to see any other asks I’ve answered about these two and this ship to get some of my perspective on the characters and their relationship.
Here’s a good breakdown on what I think a good GaaLee fic, canon or AU, needs to have to be successful, which I’ll extrapolate on under a cut:
A Solid Foundation
Individuals
The Law of Attraction
Balance
Avoid Contrivance
Be Creative
The Journey
So now that we got the main points presented, let’s break this down.
1. A Solid Foundation
The biggest road block to a successful GaaLee story is laying a foundation. We don’t get a lot of their friendship in the actual series because of the pacing of the series, so we need more of a foundation for a believable, compelling romance.
For me, I’ve always personally preferred slow burns, but with certain ships, slow burns feel more necessary–I need to know why these two are close enough to form a romantic relationship. I need to know what groundwork the story I’m about to read is laying for them. A solid foundation can be anything, but it needs to be there. I need to know that they’ve had more than a handful of interactions. While the Gaara vs Lee fight, and Gaara rescuing Lee from Kimimaro are both very good pieces of their shared history, I still want to see more than just that and I think that ultimately it strengthens a story and strengthens the relationship you’re presenting when we have a good foundation.
Gaara especially needs a good foundation to develop a romance with someone and rushing right through the building blocks makes it harder to see him forming those feelings and pursuing that relationship, so it’s vital when approaching a GaaLee fic to keep in mind the way this character can and will fall in love. Lee is more prone to developing crushes on people at first sight, and while that crush can develop into a deeper love, Lee doesn’t only need to have insta-crushes on someone to fall in love with someone. With Lee, there’s a lot of options for how you approach romance, whereas Gaara is more limited.
When building a foundation for these two ask yourself what the starting point is–set aside the Gaara vs Lee fight, set aside the Kimimaro fight; we already know about those fights. What is the start of the foundation for your story? What’s the spark? What’s the thread that ties them together? Figure out what the building blocks are for your story, and don’t rush through building that foundation. Don’t limit and weaken the romance by forgetting to build it on top of a good foundation; don’t forget that a solid romance is built on a foundation of friendship and trust.
2. Individuals
An important and often forgotten aspect to writing ship fics in general, is the fact that you’re writing a story about two different people coming together. They are two separate, individual people with their own desires, ambitions, beliefs, motivations, etc. They do not cease being themselves once they enter into a relationship, but often times, much like with the lack of a foundation, people forget to allow these characters to maintain an identity outside of the person they are in a relationship with.
Lee’s whole world shouldn’t revolve around Gaara, and Gaara’s whole world shouldn’t revolve around Lee. Give them depth, give them a life outside of the relationship they have. Don’t lose who they are as individuals, because then you lose who they are as a couple as well. They share their stories with one another, but their stories shouldn’t only be about one another.
And, along these lines, if you don’t have a grasp of who these characters are as individuals, then you’re not going to have a grasp of who they are as a couple. Always ask yourself simple questions when approaching road blocks in your story: who is this person? what do they want? why do they want it? how will they get it? That tells you a lot about a character either in the moment or as a whole. Who is Rock Lee? What does he want? Why does he want it? How will he get it? You can also ask yourself the opposite: who isn’t this character? what do they not want? why don’t they want it? how will they avoid this? Who isn’t Gaara?–meaning what sort of person is he not, (ie callous and cold) What does he not want? How does he avoid this outcome? Also knowing how far a character is willing to go to either get or avoid what they want can really help.
An example scenario: Gaara loves Lee, but the only way he and Lee can be together is if he gives up being the Kazekage. Gaara cannot and will not give up being the Kazekage. Being the Kazekage is a part of who he is. As much as he loves Lee, he cannot give up his village and he will give up Lee over his village.
So, building around that gives you a lot of options to talk about who they are and what struggles they face as individuals and as a couple. What they value and how it can cause tension, etc.
Again, one of the most important things, in my opinion, is having a story outside of these two; giving them motivations outside of each other, giving them relationships outside of each other, etc.
3. The Law of Attraction
With writing romance, there are a couple of things to consider in terms of why two people might be attracted to one another–from physical to emotional, the choices you make in building the romance itself need to be grounded. What do they see in each other? What attracts them to one another? And is it compelling enough to build a story around?
Everyone has something they find attractive in someone else from looks to personality. Did Lee feel a spark the first time Gaara smiled at him? Was it the green of Gaara’s eyes that first made Lee stop and stare? Was Lee’s kindness and determination what first made Gaara’s heart skip a beat?
Find those moments that draw them to one another–it’s like gravity, and it should keep pulling them closer to one another until their orbits are so tightly connected that interference with that orbit would be devastating. The stakes don’t necessarily need to be high from the outside world, you can have your modern AUs and still have an intense emotional connection between the two, but it has to come from somewhere; the attraction needs flow naturally. Often times, the best and most natural expression of attraction in stories is done subtly. Sometimes, we’re not really aware that we’re drawn to someone until we’re already caught up in their orbit–and I think that’s a good way to present Gaara and Lee. Both kind of oblivious until it’s glaring them in the face.
So find the gravity between them and let it grow.
4. Balance
One thing that I personally love about GaaLee is that they are such polar opposites that they balance each other out. Not too long ago, I answered this ask about Gaara and Lee and the symbolism of the tiger and dragon from their fight–it’s pretty apt though to think of the way they impact each other as yin and yang. It’s a balance. They become better for having each other in their lives.
In general, when talking about a healthy romance, it should be enriching; it should feel like it compliments both people. Gaara and Lee compliment one another, and I think that should come through in the story itself, even before the romance is explicit. Gaara calms Lee; Lee excites Gaara. Where Lee goes left, Gaara goes right, and together they make a perfect circle.
Finding where they differ, will help you find where they create balance within each other.
5. Avoid Contrivance
One of the things that always sticks out to me with GaaLee fics is that it feels like people don’t know how to get them together. How do we get Lee to Suna? How do we get them to fall in love? etc. There’s always this like confusion, this sort of floundering to think up new ways to make it happen because I think everyone’s stuck on the idea that Lee has to be in Suna for them to fall in love. Obviously, in more recent years, there’s been an upswing of Gaara visiting Konoha as a premise, but even with that context it feels like grasping at straws for the how and that leads to contrivance, and most importantly to falling back on that one fic from ten+ years ago as a building block for a GaaLee fic.
Let’s face it, if you don’t want them to do long distance, yes Lee will inevitably end up in Suna. But he doesn’t have to always be in Suna for them to start a relationship, and if you’re gonna have him be in Suna, it probably shouldn’t be because he’s a diplomatic envoy. Lee isn’t a diplomat. He is so far from being suited for politics and diplomacy it’s honestly hilarious. I’ve done it. We’ve all done it. But he’s not gonna be an envoy for diplomatic liaisons between villages, and that needs to be acknowledged. Lee is a man of action, not words, and definitely not the sort of games that politicians play.
So when you inevitably decide that Lee’s gonna go to Suna, be creative. And outside of that, think of ways to get them out of Suna and Konoha! There are endless possibilities! Don’t limit yourself!
There are other contrivances in fanfics, but that’s always the one that gets me because it often feels like people are placing Lee in Suna because they just don’t know what else to do. I have Lee in Suna a lot for the fics I write, but there is always a good reason for it. Make sure to have a good reason that fits in line with who Lee is and why he might be there. And tbh Gaara and Lee are friends! It’s totally okay for him to decide to make a stop in Suna on the way home from a mission to see his friend!
Aside from that, I feel that the other biggest contrivance is that Gaara is always… immediately into Lee and it’s just… not realistic. Allow them to take time with their relationship, don’t just shove them together. Gaara taking one look at Lee and being like “yes, that one” is just… it’s not who Gaara is. Like it’s not always applicable if we’re talking about like AUs, but people all too quickly forget that Gaara underestimated Lee. He took one look at Lee, thought he was a weird, weak kid and dismissed him. Then promptly got his ass handed to him by Lee. Gaara did not take Lee seriously at first in canon, and it is heavily contrived when his first glimpse of Lee in an AU is a love at first sight kind of thing.
Another note, a big thing that frustrates me is Gaara not having like any concept of things like sex, romance, etc. Like he’s not some shut in who’s never heard the word sex, and I’m deeply tired of seeing his “sexual awakening” because it’s always like really gross and lowkey homophobic because there’s always this sense that people want to make him asexual but they make him sex repulsed (as if that’s the only way to be ace) and don’t know how to do it without being like “eww sex with another man!?!?!” Like there are ways to write asexual characters without being gross, but you wouldn’t know it the way fandom writes so just be careful with that sort of thing.
In general, sexual awakenings often feel contrived, but that’s just my onion.
6. Be Creative
I know I said this already in number five, but it bears repeating. Be. Creative. I wish like… any of my fics were finished so I could like point to them as examples of the many and varied ways you can tell a GaaLee story, but trust me, I have like 20+ WIPs/fic ideas and each one of them is different from how they meet to how they fall in love so I know it’s possible. I think a lot of people get sort of bogged down by the lack of fic content and by the fact that everyone and their mother won’t shut up about that one fic from 10+ years ago. But I promise you can be original, creative, and groundbreaking. This fandom doesn’t exactly have a lot of ground to break, but you can still do it! Think outside the box! Don’t limit yourself to Lee going to Suna! Don’t limit yourself by making it love at first! Don’t sell yourself short by forgetting to take your time developing them, their story, their relationship!
Think of something completely out of left field and then just fucking run with it! Figure out how to make it work for these characters, within this world! But go for it! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! I promise you I have GaaLee fics that I wrote from 8 years ago that SUCKED. But it helped me learn how to write them! It helps me grow as a writer! So take a chance and be creative!
7. The Journey
One final note, the other thing that I have found that trips people up with writing–and this is honestly general advice, but I’ve noticed it a lot with GaaLee fics which is why I bring it up: The pacing.
People are so in a hurry to write a GaaLee fic to give this fandom that’s so desperate for fic content something that they just… rush right through the story. Like I’m gonna be real with you, I don’t care that Gaara and Lee end up living happily ever after. I wanna know HOW they get there. I wanna know how they even get to that first kiss. I want the journey. The journey is the payoff, and I know I’ve pretty much been saying this the entire time but it’s just so important. The amount of times I’ll see a fic that’s like 12 chapters in but only has like 20k words… I’m like ???? what’s even happened? what’s even drawing me in? what’s compelling me to keep reading if you’re 12 chapters in but only have 20k words.
And don’t misunderstand, you can say a lot with a small number of words, but if you’re telling me a story and you’ve got 12 chapters and only 20k written, then you’re pacing is off. Pacing is vital to executing a story well, and if you’re pacing is off then you’re either rushing through the journey or, quite simply, the journey isn’t there to begin with. Like it’s painfully obvious to me when a writer wants to skip all the messy in between bits and just get right to the shipping. And sure it’ll get you views and comments, but you’re missing out on the best part.
If the journey isn’t the pay off, then you’re not telling a story; and while this is general writing advice, it is so important to the integrity of this ship. They need a story. They need epics. They deserve epics. So stop thinking about that final kiss, and start thinking about what happens in the moments before that kiss. Think about the space between the kiss, not the kiss itself, because that is where the story is. The kiss is just ‘the end’.
Anyways, I’m gonna wrap this up because it’s taken me… like three days to write this and I’m tired from work and moving and just everything lol I know this isn’t like super specific, but like I said, if you have specific questions feel free to ask on anon or message me privately!

Subtext is for Cowards - Revue Starlight
I watched a lot of musicals and plays as a kid. I was dragged to most of them, but I had fun usually, although in retrospect I lacked things such as the cultural context, vocabulary, and attention span needed to fully appreciate them. Revue Starlight, which is absolutely my favorite anime of 2018, deliberately replicates the magic of watching a live performance, with blinding spotlights in dark rooms, stylish battles inspired by stage mechanisms, and loud musical segments called revues. However, there's one major difference I personally noticed between watching Revue Starlight and how I remembered plays and musicals from my childhood; my time during Mamma Mia! or King Lear was mostly spent struggling to follow the plot, then bothering my parents to explain it at intermission, while Revue Starlight's central thread is crystal clear to audiences of all ages.
Tumblr media
Revue Starlight is mysterious from the outset, as normal drama student Karen suddenly falls into an impossibly large underground fighting ring refereed by a talking giraffe, with little plot to hang on to. However, as the show reveals more, in becomes clear that every aspect from the opening lines of each episode, to the setup of every shot, to the tiny pink dot that's omnipresent in every frame of the anime, is hyper-focused on Starlight, the fictional play that serves as the centerpiece of the series, and by extension theater itself. Starlight is the shared obsession of all the named characters, and elements from it are repeated obsessively by the creators in all aspects of the show. Throughout the series, there is an absurd amount of repetition of lines (Pluck a small star, obtain a small happiness), significant names (Hikari meaning light), and grand visuals (Tokyo Tower, famous for lighting up at night), but everything can be tied back to the base ingredients of Starlight. Stars, towers, lights, and girls with tragic fates invade every aspect of the anime's production, mirroring the in-universe plot of the book and the play. It's a bombardment of symbolism and metaphor straightforwardly reinforcing the same elements, even before getting into the lyrics for the revues themselves, which serve to beat you over the head even further. To some people, this lack of hidden complexity is what prevents Revue Starlight from being a stronger narrative. However, I personally love that it wears its heart on its sleeve, and presents its meaning so obviously that even immature audiences would easily be able to understand.
Tumblr media
In a way, Revue Starlight's constant emphasis on repeating and refining its themes resembles a season of PreCure. The monster-of-the-week formula is made fun of for an assumed lack of creativity, but PreCure's directors and producers, especially in the last few years, have utilized these weekly conflicts to emphasize repetition of themes and ideals over simply winning a fight, and eventually deliver on an emotional build-up that feels earned.
Tumblr media
Rather than ascribing a moral as an afterthought to the cool battle, the moral itself is the conflict, unlike the trail of bodies left from Naruto's weird ninja eyeball conspiracies, or the win loss records of most martial arts sports anime. My Hero Academia, a very good x-men ripoff created by noted PreCure fan Kohei Horikoshi, is an example of a shonen that places more importance on the clashing of ideals and moral victories, instead of endless matchups of strong men due to familial revenge.  Revue Starlight and PreCure both use their weekly spot to have a staged performance with a clear message, and they utilize the monster-of-the-week formula, or the audition process, to serially reinforce that core message.
Translated interview with several producers and writers on recent precure seasons: source and translation deem939 on twitter
Although I also adore nearly inscrutable metaphorical fever dreams, I find the clarity of Revue Starlight’s blatant symbolism refreshing. Too many times in a certain genre of anime, relationships are left unclear or unsaid, and arguments between friends become more inevitable than usual over the creators’ intention. Although Starlight’s plot is simplistic, it would be wrong to call it unrefined or underdeveloped. Revue Starlight replicates that magical experience of watching a play, but shoots for even more. It cloaks itself in its frankly obsessive commitment to all things theater and wears it boldly, like a badge of pride. It aims to match the idealized version of a performance, the version in your head that no recording could recreate. Although actual theater can be a little confusing for some members of the audience to follow, Revue Starlight does its best to leave no room for questions, in a way that absolutely everyone should be able to understand.

What are Sasuke's positive qualities?
All of them.
Okay, realistically speaking? He has a lot of great qualities, I’m not joking, and I’m not even speaking as her fan.
*For starters, he’s not a cruel person. This fandom has a tendency to see his character like this cruel, emo, crazy bastard that would be mean to everybody without any reason for it, but that’s such a misconception. Sasuke is not an open person, that’s true, but that doesn’t mean he’s cruel. Just because he doesn’t want to hang out with _____ every time they ask him to doesn’t make him cruel.
He’s blatantly honest, which doesn’t make him the most subtle person when it comes to criticizing their comrades’ abilities, but he’s not doing it to hurt the other person’s ego, but because he’s pointing the things they have to improve. With this same point in mind, if he doesn’t want to be/talk with you, he will say it, or he will show you with his actions that he does not want to; he will not pretend just for your sake.
As so, many fans tend to justify their belief in the existence of Sasuke’s cruel aspect with the premise that it’s a logical response from the PTSD that -I do believe- he has. But again, he’s not cruel, and that’s a problem in itself because cruelty is not the only possible outcome of the PTSD. I’m not an expert on the subject and this is a serious topic, so please take my opinions only as such.
I’m mentioning this because I will like to bring briefly a point that has been bothering me for quite a while; the conversation about Sasuke suffering for a post-trauma disorder is a long, totally different one but, while I do agree he suffers from it, I personally disagree with fans that state that Sasuke is an “emo”, because not only they are misunderstanding what that concept really stands for, but also, Sasuke does not present behaviors that can be classified as depressive in canon material. His post-traumatic stress disorder, I believe, tends to appear in other behaviors, such as an anti-social attitude, which prevents him from creating strong bonds with other people whom, depending on the circumstances, he could lose; explode with anger in certain situations, such as when he wanted to fight with Naruto in the hospital after chünin exams, and -once- almost having a panic attack in his mission to Wave, when he literally was willing to comit suicide in order to free himself from the fear he was feeling, the same fear -or a very similar one- he felt on the day of the massacre.
*He’s a very intuitive, very empathetic, person. He was the one who understood what Kakashi was looking for when he took the exam after graduation, he understood that Sakura was feeling down in the chünin exams, and also understood Naruto’s feelings (and defended him) when the Uzumaki seemed to be struggling to make himself understood. He knew exactly what to say to Juugo back in Orochimaru’s hideout to comfort him and make him join his team, and that not only come from his intuition but also the fact that he understands such fears, he understands that same dependency that Juugo felt with Kimimaro, because he also developed some sort of dependency with Naruto.
For this same attribute, he was capable of understanding what it meant to be Hokage, why it was a necessity to change the system since he knew the traumas and sadness this type of world-organization could, no, brought to others. He was just one in a million, there was Nagato, Haku, Zabuza, and countless others who couldn’t even start to plan a revenge because they laked ninja training; all of them lost the ones they cared most for, and all of them tried to change this same system. As such, he knew that, even if it wasn’t by his hand, this structure was destined to be questioned and attacked over and over because the same crimes would be repeated unceasingly, generating a vicious circle where the only victims would be innocent people.
So he knew that, in order to stop that, he would have to become the ultimate enemy.
*He is a tireless worker and a smart fighter. I put this two points together for the sole purpose of shortening the answer and I will bring Neji up to prove a point.
While much of part one focused on the idea of Sasuke and Neji being prodigies, which lowered their efforts and techniques because they are “naturally predisposed,” we have seen them in numerous panels training hard to reach the level that they own and exploit; we do not see them accommodate themselves in that position and title of “prodigy” to climb in the ninja rank, on the contrary, they always seek for self-improvement. This is linked to the fact that neither of them is seeking power, particularly, but their goals diverge from the idea of being Hokage (not like Naruto) and have the need to prove something, to seek revenge and/or end certain injustice.
Their goal surpass them, is beyond them as individuals, this same aspect would be brought up later, but I wanted to mention it here.
Unlike Naruto, Sasuke does not have the need of relying on a friend/comrade to think of strategy (Shikamaru), I’m not saying that this is a flaw of Naruto, or that it makes Naruto particularly worst than Sasuke, but that Sasuke is better than Naruto (the irony in this statement was so good and funny that I couldn’t delete it, sorry, please ignore it). Anyway, what I tried to say here was that Sasuke would review his options and among all of them he would choose the one that allows him to achieve his goal with the least amount of possible losses, doing the least damage to any space where the fight takes place.
*None of the goals that Sasuke has during the series comes from a selfish reason. Here I’m bringing up again the idea that his goals surpass him as an individual.
While assassinating Itachi came, in part, from a deep hatred for the betrayal Sasuke suffered by his hands, his need for revenge also encompasses the idea of bringing justice to those murdered by his brother, not only as a form of payment for taking away from him the people Sasuke loved most. Later in the series, when he learns the truth about the massacre, he wants to kill the elders and Dänzo (not destroy Konoha as a part of the fandom tends to believe), also to bring justice to his deceased family, including Itachi, and that same sentiment is what impulses him to comprehend that changing the system that Konoha is part of is the only way he could prevent this same massacres to happen in the future.
Also, because he’s not a selfish, self-centered person he doesn’t put himself as a parameter to judge other people’s goals, or better yet, he could put himself as a parameter to analyze the purpose of others (which is something most of us do, in reality, so it’s logical for him to do it), but he does not judge them. Instead of putting the other person in his shoes, he tends to put himself in the other person’s perspective. Did I explain myself correctly?
Let me do an example to clarify: While Naruto judges those who confront him, stating that he went to something similar and that he did not, and would never do, what they did; Sasuke doesn’t because he can understand why others did what they did in that specific way, which doesn’t mean that he agrees with their methods. For that reason, he respects and even encourages his teammate’s individual goals, such as Süigetsu’s dream of becoming the leader of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist.
He’s not interested in being a role-model or to be admired, he never brings up his persona in any conversation, and he doesn’t put himself in a position of moral superiority.
*He’s not by any means, and this is a point that’s not up for debate because canonically there are no proofs of it, sexist.
He doesn’t downgrade his teammates/enemies just because of their gender, and he does not expect a determined behavior/obsession just because the other person is female.
He treats everybody else as his equal regardless of their gender and focusing only on their capabilities, he never took advantage of the apparent obsession with him of most of the female characters in the series, and he was never disrespectful to them because of their feelings towards him, mocking them or putting himself in a position of superiority.
He also never encouraged those feelings because he wasn’t interested, he never feigned any kind of positive sentiment towards them to make them believe that he reciprocated them, only to later take advantage.
Back when he abandoned Konoha and was stopped momentarily by Sakura, she tried to convince him to stay by telling him that she will make him happy, that she will live for him (x)
Now, here’s the thing, yes, there’s an intent of emotional manipulation, but what pisses me off is that Kishimoto wrote her in a way that she’s offering herself as a mere toy, what is worst is that she’s literally pleading to be treated as such, and why no one is pissed about this? She’s a girl, A GIRL, not a toy, it’s not her job to make him happy, IT’S NOT A JOB. A man SHOULD be happy just to be with her, and Sasuke isn’t, Sasuke isn’t happy being in Konoha. Period. That’s why he wants to go.
This doesn’t have anything to do with her and what she can do to make him happy and the only one who understands this is Sasuke, who has enough respect for her to reject her. (…) Sasuke has enough heart, enough respect for her to think that. He doesn’t consider her a toy that he could take advantage of, which is the more feminist thing I have seen in this manga, and isn’t sad that he respects her more than she respects herself?
Even when he rejected Sakura in the war, and trust me he had every right to yell, he was respectful enough as to calmly tell her that he just didn’t have any reason to love her and vice-versa. He did complain about her obsession with him but he has done that before regarding every character, including Naruto, so he doesn’t consider it a behavior tied solely to female characters.
*While he’s not the most open or communicative person, he will demonstrate his appreciation through actions. That is, if you enter his circle of trust, if you are lucky enough to create a bond with him, he will…
protect you with his life.
I don’t think I need to give examples of this, so I will only point out two times:
Back in Wave, he saved Naruto by putting himself in front of him. Even when he was fully aware that he was going to die, even when he knew that with his death the Uchiha will be extinguished (he didn’t know about Obito) and that he will not fulfill his ultimate goal.
He literally accomplished what no one could in order to save Karin -a dear comrade- and he absorbed the flames of the Amaterasu, developing a new form of Sharingan; he hurt himself in the process, but he refused to abandon a friend only because Juugo told him it was impossible to save her.
That’s how much he esteems his friends, his comrades; and that’s why I’m a hundred percent sure there’s no way Sasuke will abandon you once you become his friend. It’s true, he tried to kill Karin when he fought Dänzo, but he was going through a meltdown, he wasn’t a hundred percent aware of his actions.
Anyway, that would be everything I can think about him right now, if you have more, feel free to add.

The question part 2
Word count: 2,710
Rating: K
My body relaxes in the softness of my office chair and the throbbing of my feet subside for just a moment. I’ve been working for almost 36 hours straight since a few Anbu squads came in, one of the squads were rushed straight into surgery. Even in the state of peace we are in there are still enemies out there. Letting out a sigh I look over to the framed picture on my desk, it was the day Sarada was promoted to Chunin. Sasuke-kun and I surprised her at the award ceremony that was privately held, the way she smiled at her father made my heart stop. We managed to get her away to take a picture of past and present Team 7, the people most precious to our strong daughter. That night Sarada and Sasuke-kun went out to the last remaining Uchiha building. We had agreed to tell her the complete truth, Sarada came home the next day with a different outlook on certain aspects of being a ninja. Her determination to be Hokage only grew, she would be the first Hokage from the Uchiha clan.
A knock on the door breaks me from my thoughts as it cracks open to reveal my teenaged daughter, a warm smile spreading on my lips. Every day I’m surprised by how she looks so similar to her father but her fiery personality is very much like mine. Today’s she’s dressed in a plain red t-shirt, no doubt with the fan embroidered on the back, and a pair of training pants. It seems she’s been off duty for some time judging by her attire.
“Hi Mama. Papa sent me to check on you. He’s starting to get anxious even though he will never admit it.” The statement comes out so nonchalantly that it’s hard to suppress the laughter coming from my lips. Yes, she’s very much Sasuke-kun’s daughter.
“A few Anbu squads needed my attention. Have you been at home the past few days?” The last time I saw her was almost a week ago, Team 7 was assigned an escort mission to Suna. Naruto has assigned the group of fifteen-year olds the mission as a test of strength, or so he says. Lately Boruto has been at my home training with Sasuke-kun until he passed out from exhaustion.
“Yes, stupid Boruto had to be a show off again and we were put on leave for a week. Lord Seventh said that we were the top contenders for Jonin here soon.” So much like his father. Sarada pulls her bottom lip between her teeth and nibbles at the skin softly. It’s a habit she picked up from watching me when I was nervous.
“Mama, can I ask you something?” My brows raise slightly and a smirk replaces my smile. It seems that it’s my turn to be interrogated, a few weeks ago when we were getting ready for bed Sasuke-kun told about the question our daughter had asked. Even though we have been married for over sixteen years, it still sends my heart into a flutter when he expresses his feelings for me. Words have never come easily to Sasuke-kun and his actions mean so much more.
Sarada drops her head in defeat and taken in a long, heavy breath. It seems she trying to solve a problem that has too many options and variables. Such a silly girl.
“Does this have something to do with what you asked your father?” Wiggling my pink brows, I stand from my seat and remove my white medical coat. It seems that my daughter needs a little guidance and this room feels suffocating, motioning for her to follow behind it takes her a moment to register that we are leaving. Once we are outside I lead us towards the gate of the village and eventually ending up on Team 7’s old training grounds. The sun feels welcomed against my tired body and instantly I begin to feel reenergized.
“I know that you’ve loved Papa since you were children, but how did you know he was the one after everything he put you through?” This time an expression of shock comes across my face. I’m guessing Sarada didn’t completely understand that while her father was away from the village he wasn’t himself and wasn’t thinking clearly. Removing my heels, I dip my feel into the cooling stream like I used to as a genin after a long day of team building. It feels like a life time ago honestly but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
“Then you know that your father wasn’t himself. Before he left to seek power, your father was different. When we first placed on the same team all I could see was the cool, silent Sasuke Uchiha. I thought I could get him to notice me by flaunting my looks but deep down it was a pointless attempt.” Everything seemed to change between us during the Chunin Exams. He tried so hard to protect me up until he was cursed by Orochimaru, which left me to defend Naruto and Sasuke-kun. A shiver runs down my spine and I lock eyes with my daughter again
“During our Chunin Exam, we had a run in with Orochimaru. That’s when your father started to turn even more towards the darkness. Back then I wasn’t strong enough to protect myself, even though I thought of myself as a full fledge Kunoichi. The sound ninja that attacked delivered a serious beating, but I’ll never forget what happened after.” The dark, vial chakra that surrounded Sasuke-kun and the murderess look in his eyes made my heart break.
“Papa told me about that, he said that something inside of him snapped seeing you like that.” Her voice is quiet as her gaze shifts towards the water.
“Everyone was looking at him like a monster but I knew that he had to be stopped. Every muscle in my body shook as I clutched onto him for dear life, trying to get my Sasuke-kun back. That’s when I knew my crush was something more.” Maybe even then I knew I loved him.
“Then when Gaara attacked you jumped in front of his sand to protect Papa.” I forgot that I had told her about that. My ribs ache slightly from the memory, Gaara had profusely afterwards and still tries to not bring it up when we cross paths.
“That was my attempt of protecting your father. He had jumped in front of me so many times that it was almost a natural instinct. Even after we were married and traveling he still tried but I would push him away.” Another memory comes crashing to the front of my mind, just after we learned that we were expecting there was a small group of rouge ninja that tried to take us on. Sasuke-kun, being overly protective, went to jump in front of one but I managed to push him away and knock out the rouge without using much chakra.
“What about the night he left?” So many questions that are hard to answer with just words. That night is one that I will never forget but it doesn’t plague my dreams like it used to. Some nights I couldn’t sleep so I would stay up reading or training to try and catch up to my teammates.
“I tried to stop him but I couldn’t. If he hadn’t knocked me unconscious then I would’ve tried to go after him. Deep down I knew there wasn’t anything I could do for him, he was fighting an internal battle. My heart had broken into pieces but that’s when I made my decision to train under Lady Tsunade. If I wasn’t going to be any use to help bring your father home I had to train.” A flicker of a very familiar chakra comes from behind us, but it was only detectable for a split second if you were paying attention. It seems that curiosity has gotten the better of my husband.
“I know all this already Mama. Papa mentioned that you two tried to kill each other. Why? If you loved him how could you do that?” Her voice cracks towards the end and I notice the wave of somber taking over her small frame. Another memory flashes to the front of my mind, my whole body in shock after learning that Sasuke-kun was going to be assassinated. Tears threaten the corners of my eyes, I’ve always been known to cry too easily when it comes to him.
“Sarada, it’s because I loved your father that I tried to kill him.” A flash of red meets me but there is no ill will behind it. Just the words have brought forward feelings, most likely confusion and aching to understand. Taking in a deep breath I lean back on my elbows and stare into the blue sky.
“He was so lost in the darkness, almost completely engulfed, and the only way I thought could save him was to kill him. Maybe if I could do that then there was a chance he could be at peace. In the end, I couldn’t go through with it. Every fiber of my being knew that your father was the only man I could ever love. My emotions got the better of me as always. If Kakashi Sensei and Naruto came when they did, who knows.” My throat tightens at the memory of his hand wrapped around it, so much anger in the action. Out of all people I was the one who betrayed him first. He had never tried to hurt me, but I had, early in our relationship we had to forgive each other for so much. But that’s what makes our marriage stronger than most.
A sniffle comes from my nose and I blink away the salty drops, not wanting my daughter to see me this way. For some reason bringing up the past is painfully blissful.
“I didn’t see your father until the war. Even I didn’t understand why he decided to come to aid the village, I do now though. Your uncle and father took the lead, Naruto telling me to rest and that’s when I finally was able to fight along side them. Our Team had finally been reunited and my heart was filled with pride. I’ll never forget the look on their face when I unlocked my seal.” A small laugh comes from me as their faces pop up. They seemed so shocked at first then pride took over. Naruto later told me that Sasuke-kun was smirking with pride too. That battle was more difficult than I’ll ever admit, at points I was useless, but I had to be there to protect them. After so long it was my turn.
“Eventually they were able to seal Kaguya away and we were sent back into our dimension. Your father was still lost and I tried again to bring him back the only way I knew how, once again I proclaimed my love for him and begged him to come back. This time I was placed under a genjutsu because he knew that I’d come chasing after them.”
“But I thought genjutsu was nothing for you! I’ve even tried to trap you when we trained together.”
“The Rinnegan is more powerful than the Sharingan. It finally wore off when their battle was over, we barely made it in time. That’s when your father came back to us, it wasn’t easy at first but in the end we were able to repair our bond.” Before Sasuke-kun left the village for his journey we spent more time together than anyone. He would pull me away from the hospital when I worked days at a time trying to whatever I could. Then there were days when I had to remind him that he’s a good person and his past doesn’t define him.
“Didn’t you miss him?” Now is my turn to look at her, dark orbs looking at me for an answer. Those eyes remind me of Sasuke-kun’s when he was younger, always watching me from a distance.
“Of course I missed him. Eventually I tracked him down and joined him on his journey. Our marriage may not be normal compared to your aunts and uncles, but ours has grown stronger than theirs. Your father and I have overcome obstacles that were meant to tear us apart from each other completely, but you’re the living proof of our feelings Sarada…” She moves closer to me and I feel her tuck into my side, resting my head on top of hers. These are the days I cherish more than any.
“Sarada, I guess the answer to your question isn’t as simple as you wanted. To me there’s only ever been your father. Yes in the past he made mistakes and chose the wrong path, but he’s more than redeemed himself for that. I was able to look past all of that and see him for who he really is. Loving someone isn’t just skin deep, you have to know who they truly are and love them for that.” I place a small kiss on the top of my daughter’s head, knowing that my husband will be beside us in just a moment. Her question probably isn’t answered the way she wanted but I have a feeling this has nothing to do with her father and I. On cue, Sasuke-kun takes a seat on the ground beside me with his signature smirk adorning his face. Moving my head to the other side, my cheeks rests against his arm and a blush creeps up to my face.
“Your chakra is low.” He whispers between us as my eyes close slowly, enjoying the peaceful family moment. I can feel Sarada shifting in my side trying to get a good look at the two of us. She used to complain that we never showed any affection towards each other, eventually she caught us in the kitchen one afternoon and after that she never brought it up again.
“I know Anata. Let’s go home.” Before I could move Sasuke had transported the two of us to our house, leaving behind an irritated Sarada at the training ground. It seems that he wants to have a private conversation without prying ears.
“Why did you leave her behind? She’s going to be here in just a second and angry on top of it.” I fuss at him as we retreat to our bedroom, exhaustion starting to take over. The door closes behind us and my blush returns ten-fold, I’ll never get used to this. Sasuke-kun approaches me slowly and his lines hand reaches to stroke my cheek.
“I never say it enough, but I love you Sakura.” Then a smile that only I have ever seen comes across his face causing my heart to flutter. No matter how long we are together, he will always make me turn into a mess.
“I love you too Sasuke-kun.” I return the smile and a pounding sound comes from the front door. Seems that Sarada was locked out, sly husband of mine.
“Sarada has feelings for the dobe’s son.” The words come out as a scowl and I can’t help the laughter. It was inevitable, they’ve had feelings for each other since they were children. Sarada just needed some clarification.
“It could be worse. Just leave them be. I know Boruto is your student, so teach him to be the man you want her to be with. He’s a good kid, sometimes he’s too much like his father.” That’s an understatement. Stretching on my tip toes, I try to place a kiss on my husband’s cheek, but our bedroom door comes flying open. So much for a private talk.
“Papa! Come spar with me!” We both start laughing and then I’m left alone in my bedroom, but not before a small tap to my forehead. I watch as my family walks down the hall, two Uchiha fans staring at me in return. This was our dream all along, Sasuke-kun wanted a family and I wanted him to be happy. We may be a small clan now but as long as we have each other, there’s nothing we can’t do or overcome.
@kairi-chan here’s the second half! I hope everyone enjoys it
