hi!
i saw ur recent post :) i know nothing abt dc and booster gold but what sort of superhero is booster gold?? feel free to ramble hehe
ooh this is interesting. you see people tend to stereotype booster as either a time travelling hero, or a self absorbed sell out. and sure hes got elements of both, but he is way more than that
he kinda acts like a classic golden hero -- I mean he took a lot of inspiration from superman originally -- but he does sponsorships and advertisements and whatever because he was also a football player before, and athletes do that all the time, and he figured why dont superheroes do that? and that's the thing that most people dont understand -- both in canon (either intentionally, like in the original booster gold comics, or unintentionally like newer stuff or when he gets represented in shows a lot) and just in the general fanbase -- hes perceived as shallow and barely a hero, if anything just a laughingstock. but at his core, hes selfless and he wants to help people. he likes money, sure, he loves being rich, but he also grew up poor, so it doesnt take that big of an adjustment when he loses his funds. basically, booster gold is very heroic and can be very selfless, hes just kind of perceived as a glory hound
and then the time travelling element is fun, but I don't really like it as his main focus. nowadays hes just brought in because theres time travel involved, but I much prefer his original time aspect presented in booster gold 1986 and time masters 1990, in my opinion the aspect of him always meant to time travel back, as well as the methods of travel and the rules put in place. going to the 80s and saving people, as well as just being stuck there because the time sphere broke (and not being able to time travel instantaneously) and then we he did get to time travel forward he learned that 1) you can only use each time travel method once, which adds a fun barrier to time travel but still makes it fun and 2) he was always intended to go to the 80s and save the president, which also adds a build up to what happens in time masters which expands more on time travel and ties these two elements together in a way I really enjoy. him discovering that being booster gold, the hero, is his destiny is also a plotline I really enjoy. I feel by removing this element and restriction of time travel it kind of removes his important character arc with this
but also, the other thing that drives his character is his lack of secret identity. nobody knows his real name, sure, but he doesnt have a real real name anyway. he lives as booster gold, not as a "michael jon carter" (which he does not!! go by btw). his identity is tied so strongly to being a superhero he doesnt know how to live without it. when he loses his suit or even just power in his suit, he has no idea what to do. in booster gold #13 when his suit is drained of power and hes injured and sickly from the previous issue, he is so glad to get his flight ring back even if it's just a hint of his previous powers, and the entire time he is just struggling without the powers he was accustomed to because of the suit. on top of that, the issues in #25 that he has from not being a hero, where he doesn't know how to live normally but also considers going back to the 25th century because he cant live in the 20th century anymore (for multiple reasons) but that was also when he has to accept that being booster gold is his destiny, and he cant get rid of it (he doesnt know how)
anyways I dont know if this makes sense at all or actually answers your question but I just think that booster gold and like how he is perceived by the public and by himself is very interesting and I just love a hero who's secret identity is so tied up in being a hero (where they dont even have a secret identity) that they don't know how to not be a hero, especially when its tied with being a celebrity and having fame and wealth, while also caring deeply about being a hero and helping (if I had a nickel...) idk i just love that kind of hero

Can you write for Quinn with the “Can I sleep with you?” Prompt pls
Oliver The Orca || Quinn Hughes
Part of The Hockey Babies AU
Prompt: 29. “Can I sleep with you?”
Warnings: anxiety, fear of the future
WC: 6.8k
A/N: This was meant to be short and sweet jfc lol. I decided because it’s so long that I’d make this the origin for them in my Hockey Babies Au.
Summary: Since moving to Michigan as a child, you’ve been annoyed by the eldest child that lived next door. Neither of your parents care and insist on a camping trip before every school year.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Camping trips were not for you. You were meant for the city or at least a relatively mid-sized town. Not trees, bugs, and a tent that you had to put together yourself. Well, that last part was only somewhat true because after failing to put your tent together three times and watching it collapse Quinn had come over to help you. By help, it meant that you stood back and made sure not to touch anything, per his request.
It happens every year. With your parents being friends with Ellen and Jim Hughes there was always a Summer camping trip before school started. When you asked your mother why she insisted that you go she simply told you that as you grow up life moves by fast and that close friends you once had growing up may not be around when you get older. Hence, the camping trip.
You didn’t know much about your mom before your family moved to Michigan. In your defense, how much was a six-year-old supposed to know about their parents?
Even when you were young, your mom liked to talk about her childhood and the one thing and person that was always a constant in her stories was a woman named Ellen. According to your mom, she and Ellen had gone to high school and college together. When they parted ways after graduation their communication slowly died out that was until you moved into your brand new house in Michigan.
As your dad drove the van down the suburban streets filled with large houses, you couldn’t help but think that Michigan didn’t seem all that much different from anywhere else you had lived in your short six years. Your younger brother was excited enough for both of you. You weren’t easily annoyed by your brother but his nonsensical 4-year-old ramblings about everything he saw made you roll your eyes. He didn’t get it. He wasn’t leaving behind any friends or starting at a new school. If your family stayed here this is all he would ever remember, not the home or neighborhood you lived in before.
Your dad seemed to notice your sour mood and tried to point things out that would usually catch your attention. He talked about how there would be more room for you to play, and that there was a lake nearby where you could swim in the summer. Your mom even suggested that you could learn how to ice skate during the winter when the lake froze over. None of it interested you until your dad told you that you would finally have your own bedroom.
That made you perk up. At some point, you were sure that you had to have had your own bedroom at some point. You didn’t remember it because for as long as you could remember you shared a bedroom with your brother. For the rest of the drive, you sat back in your booster seat, thinking about how you would decorate it and if you could somehow convince your parents to let you have your own television. When you started school you could have sleepovers whenever you wanted!
That sounded nice. You’ve been trying to tell them since the few months since your birthday that you were a big girl now and six-year-olds are too old to share a bedroom with their brothers, especially a snot-nosed tattle tale like your brother.
The rest of your family chatted merrily, talking about all the great things living in this neighborhood would have, and how your dad’s new job would be great for the family because he’d be around a lot more. Your parents didn’t try to pull you back into the conversation, knowing that a neutral mood from you would be better than a grumpy one.
Finally, when you pulled up to what was to be your new house, you couldn’t help but let out a gasp. It was large and white and there was even a porch. It was like one of those houses you saw in movies or on the covers of the magazines your mom read while waiting in line to buy her groceries.
You refused to let yourself feel too excited about it, though. Your parents had to know that you didn’t approve of this move and that you were still upset about leaving your friends behind and your old home, and the fact that you had to get rid of half of your stuffed animals to make room in the van for a move you didn’t even want!
You flinched when suddenly you heard your mother shriek and nearly jump out of the car, even though your dad had yet to put it into park. You watched in confusion as your mother waved her arms about to get some other woman’s attention. It seemed to work because the other woman turned away from what you presumed were her three sons, who had to be around the same age as you and your brother and embraced your mother in a tight hug.
Finally pulling into the driveway slowly and parking the car, your dad went over to unbuckle your brother from his seat and just like your mother he scrambled out of the car to meet the children who were standing behind the woman mom was talking animatedly to. You watch from your seat as your mom introduces your brother to this strange new woman - you wonder if it’s Ellen, the one whom your mom has pictures of from when they were young. She looks similar, taller than your mom, leaner, and with the build of an athlete, and her blonde hair is a stark contrast to your own mom’s darker shade.
Even her smile is the same. You were told you were moving to be closer to your dad’s new job but now you can’t help but wonder if your mom knew that she would somehow be neighbors with her old friend.
When your dad comes around to help unbuckle your booster seat, you sit back and let him, now eyeing the three boys in roller skates and hockey sticks. It’s the middle one you think that your brother is mainly talking to. Mainly because the youngest, either still a toddler or just a little bit older is holding onto his mom’s leg as he takes in the new people. The other one has to be the oldest, you think, with the way his face is set into a serious mask, and is the only one that has seemed to notice you.
You don’t like that he’s watching you. You don’t know him but at that same time, that’s why you don’t put up resistance to being unbuckled, where normally you would have. You didn’t want to seem like a loser so quickly after moving here. You haven’t even stepped foot into your new house yet.
When your dad helps you clamber out of the car, you make sure to grab your favorite stuffed animal that you were allowed to bring on the trip. When your parents had brought you to Build-a-Bear, they probably thought you’d get a regular bear or an expensive dog but instead, you picked an orca. An orca that you named Oliver who never once left your side.
“Do I have to meet them?” you pulled on your dad’s shirt so that you could be face-to-face with him. You could see that he was trying to hold back a laugh but a light smile still found its way onto his lips. He wasn’t fooling you, though. With as much seriousness as you could muster on your small round face, you continued, “Can’t we see the house first and see these people tomorrow?”
Your dad sighed and replied, “Your mom and brother are already over there. Your mom is catching up with an old friend and your brother, it looks like is making a new friend himself.”
You grumbled something under your breath but your dad ignored it.
“We won’t stay out here for long and it’s nice to get to know you’re neighbors.” He added. “If you get too nervous or you want to leave squeeze your stuffed animal or hand him to me and I’ll get the message that it’s time to go.”
“Oliver,” you muttered. “His name is Oliver.”
He patted down your hair which had gotten more messy as the day went on and hummed apologetically, “I’m sorry, will you tell Oliver that?”
You nodded and with Oliver tucked under one arm, you grabbed your dad’s hand with the other and walked over to the others. You dropped his hand but remained close by, even when he moved closer to your mom and threw his arm around her.
When your mom finally noticed you she introduced you to everyone, “This is my daughter,” your mom announced.
After telling them all your names, the other woman laughed. It was bright and kind. “You always did say if you had a daughter one day, that’s what you would name her.”
They shared one more laugh before your mom continued, “Darling, this is Luke,” he was still holding onto his mom’s leg and you noticed his hair was the brightest. Up close you realized that your original guess of four was wrong. He was barely three years old. You waved shyly at the younger boy and smiled, “This is Jack, he claims to like hockey more than his brothers,” which made the tallest one huff a breathy laugh. “He’s the same age as your brother, isn’t that nice?”
You weren’t sure what to say to that so you just nodded.
“This one, right here,” your mom said with a smile and a twinkle in her eyes that you couldn’t decipher, “is Quinn. He’s the oldest and just so happens to be around your age.”
You took him all in now that you were only standing a few feet away. His hair was much darker and his complexion was pale, you couldn’t help but wonder what he looked like in the winter. He didn’t smile but his eyes weren’t unkind.
He broke the silence well by holding up his hand for you to shake.
“It’s nice to meet you,” he politely said. You replied, saying the same thing and holding Oliver closer to you.
You wouldn’t consider yourself a shy child but it was the way that everyone was so engrossed in the conversation the adults were having while Quinn kept his eyes on you the whole time. You couldn’t pinpoint how it made you feel. You were annoyed that you were singled out but at the same time, a warm buzzing feeling hummed through you as you were the sole focus of someone’s attention.
It all felt like too much, though, and eventually, you handed your stuffed animal to your dad. He was a man of his word and in less than five minutes your mom was wrapping up her conversation with Ellen.
You thought the interaction was over but as you had turned to walk away Ellen shouted one last thing that made your mom’s ears perk up. She turned around and Ellen said, “Every summer before school begins we go on a camping trip. We go for about three days. We leave in a week, I’d love it if you could all come.”
Without looking at your brother or you, or your father for that matter, your mother agreed happily. You know that meant that before you were even unpacked she would drag everyone to the store to buy camping gear.
This time you truly thought you were done because now your parents had started to walk out of earshot and Ellen had started to help Luke take off his roller skates.
However, loud enough for you to hear but quiet enough for everyone else not to, you heard Quinn utter the words, “Don’t forget to bring your orca on the trip.”
You didn’t stop, exactly. You tripped on an uneven part of the sidewalk and managed to catch yourself before falling flat on your face. You looked back at the oldest Hughes and saw that he was gone.
You weren’t a drama queen, no matter how many relatives tried to tell you you were. You were picky and you knew what you liked but you never expected others to understand, that would have been rude. However, how had Quinn known that Oliver was an Orca? Nobody knew, especially children your age. You only knew because one day your dad fell asleep watching a documentary about sea life. Every time someone would guess what your stuffed animal was they often guess a whale, which was a common misconception. One time you heard someone call it a narwhal. You were offended on Oliver’s behalf but secretly found it a little funny.
You stopped letting it bother you but the surprise and shock you felt when someone knew what Oliver was made you radiate happiness. It probably seemed ridiculous to most people but Oliver was important to you. All the grumpiness in the car from earlier had disappeared. That didn’t mean you actually liked the eldest of the three brothers. He was quiet and seemed sort of grumpy and acted like he wanted nothing to do with you.
Your first family camping trip was filled with highs and lows. Jim Hughes taught you how to fish, and you soon realized that you hated it but he seemed to enjoy it so you went along with it. You taught Luke how to make a flower crown. Your mom and Ellen gossiped about their time in school and all the time in between that they missed.
Quinn on the other hand, barely spoke to you. It wasn’t subtle either, everyone was aware and thought the two of you would work it out by the end of the trip. It’s not like you were avoiding him. Maybe a little but not as much as he was trying to avoid you.
All of it made any little spark inside you that wanted to be his friend die. So you vowed for the rest of the trip to ignore him. It felt better to be the one doing the ignoring and not the one being ignored.
When school started you were put into different classes so thankfully the only time you had to see Quinn was lunch time and even then the two of you would sit across the cafeteria to sit with your friends.
For years it had worked. You were cordial as neighbors and put on pleasant smiles for your parents when they decided to have a dinner night with both families. At school you didn’t talk, sometimes you would catch him glancing over at you but you never brought it up. If he had a staring problem that would have to be something he would have to deal with on his own.
The camping trips usually went smoothly. At least up until this last year. There was always so much to do that it was easy to shrug off any attempts anyone made for you to hang out with Quinn. You were nineteen and he was turning the same age in a month.
This could very well be the last camping trip you spent with everyone and sometimes, late at night, the feeling of not seeing Quinn again hurt but then you remembered his judgemental stares and how pretty, skinny, blonde girls would fawn over him once he became a hockey player in the NHL.
Your own thoughts startle you. What do you care if a bunch of girls threw themselves at Quinn while you were away? You especially didn’t care if he took an interest in any of them. He already went to and played hockey at the University of Michigan. You couldn’t think of one instance where he didn’t have several different options for who he spent the night with. When he goes to play for the NHL, nothing will have changed.
(Other than everything. In Michigan, you knew you would see him again. When he moved he wouldn’t be there when you came to visit.)
This was one of the reasons you couldn’t stand Quinn most of the time. He jumbled up your thoughts and you didn’t know what to do with them. With Jack and Luke, it was different,
they had become like a second set of brothers with how often they were over at your house. Quinn, even though the offer was extended to him by every one of your family members, he still never came over.
From the get-go, it was clear that ignoring Quinn for the entire trip wasn’t going to happen.
On the first night, you followed the routine that you had developed over the several years of camping. There was one problem, though, and that was since your first camping trip to now, you had never gotten the hang of putting your tent together. You tried! But someone would always have to help you in the end. You looked around for your brother or your dad but when you turned back to the pile of what was meant to be your tent on the ground, Quinn had come over and silently helped to put it together.
Few words were exchanged, such as, “Can you stand over there?”“Don’t touch that.” and “Hold onto that for a second.”
When your tent was all propped up and ready for you, you went to say ‘thank you’ but Quinn was already walking off to help your dad unload bags from his car.
By the time you had everything all laid out, your sleeping bag, an extra blanket, a flashlight, and of course Oliver the Orca, the sun had begun to set. Jim called for everyone to come gather around the campfire. You pulled a hoodie over your t-shirt and claimed a spot on the log near the fire. You weren’t the last to arrive, as you waited for Jack, your brother, and Quinn to arrive you stared into the crackling campfire.
The camping trip had been pushed back this year so now it was late September and there was a little chill in the air and the warmth from the fire was enough to warm you up.
Luckily for you, in a week you would be heading back to school for your second year at the University of Oregon. It wasn’t your first choice and you knew it would get cold there too, but when you toured the school before your first year, you fell in love with the area. It was lush and green and had everything you wanted.
Quinn gave you what had to have been a sarcastic smile when he finally plopped down on the log on the other side of the fire. You made a show of rolling your eyes at him in return. The little grin that wanted to come up was swallowed back down when you realized that you would miss this. The playfulness that snuck in between both of your two soured your mood.
Looking at Quinn brought back another thought that you’ve recently been thinking about. It was something that would nag at you as you packed up your room and took late-night walks around the neighborhood. You were afraid of getting homesick. You got homesick the first year you went away to college but you were expecting that. It was different, though, you were aching for some type of freedom. You loved your friends and family, and for the first time in your life, you would be free to do whatever you wanted without someone hovering over you.
This year felt different. Your friends from home had started to settle in the cities and towns that they chose to move to. Your little brother was looking at colleges on the East Coast and even Jack was going into the NHL draft this year. With Quinn going to Vancouver to play for the Canucks, he would be the one that you would be the closest to but Vancouver was still a distance from Eugene, Oregon. There was no chance that you would ever just accidentally cross paths with him.
For a second, you felt of pang of sadness. You’ve known Quinn since you were six and it won’t be like last year when you left for school and you would FaceTime or Skype your friends and family and Quinn would be in the background. Quinn was such a fixture in your life and now he was going to be gone too. Quinn loved Michigan, so you would probably see him in the Summers but what if after you graduate you get a job somewhere else? Somewhere where you know no one.
You're jolted out of your spiraling emotions when Jack and your brother plop down on the log next to you, fighting over a bag of unopened marshmallows. You could thank the heavens for their timing because it feels like you’ve been having more and more thoughts about Quinn, your future, and Quinn being a part of your future.
The bag that Jack and your brother were fighting over tears in half, just like anyone could have predicted. The marshmallows go flying everywhere. Some land in the fire and melt quickly but mostly they land amongst the forest floor.
What you weren’t expecting was Jack jumping up from the log and hopping around screaming in a pitch that could rival a little girl’s.
“Oh shit! Oh shit! OH SHI-!”
No one can hold back their laughter as they watch him frantically move about. Your brother nearly falls off of his log in a fit of laughter and you think you hear Quinn snort.
“Jack Rowden Hughes!” Ellen scolds but when you look at her you can see the laughter she was trying her hardest to suppress.
“Sorry, mom,” Jack mumbles but still doesn’t stop hopping around looking for the marshmallows.
“What the hell are you even doing?” Quinn asks, and unlike his mother, he’s not trying to hide his amusement.
When he laughs you feel your chest get tight. You look briefly at him when he speaks and see that he’s already looking at you. He’s not smirking or glaring. No, he’s just smiling at you. There doesn’t seem to be any hidden meaning or mocking in his eyes. He’s happy and you’re the one he’s showing it to unabashedly.
“Don’t you read?” Jack snaps, his hands overflowing with the marshmallows he’s grabbed from the floor, your mom kindly hands him a bag of garbage for him to throw away the dirt-covered sticky treat.  “Bears love Marshmallows!”
“Wasn’t that a SpongeBob episode?” You inquire with a laugh, shortly followed by Luke and Quinn.
“Dear, we’ve been camping here for thirteen years.” Your mom tries to soothe Jack but everyone, including her, knows it’s futile. “No one has ever seen a bear around here.”
“That doesn’t mean they aren’t lurking around waiting to pounce,” Jack argues but he slowly calms down. Well, as calm as Jack can manage.
“What does “waiting to pounce” even mean? Do you think Winnie The Pooh is hiding behind that tree over there?”
“Shut up, Quinn,” Jack grumbles and is shoved down to sit back on the log by his dad.
After everyone is calmed or close enough to calm your dad pulls out another bag of marshmallows and chocolate from a bag while Ellen grabs graham crackers. Jim finds the sticks for you all to toast the s’mores with all while your mom sits back in her chair, drinking out of a thermal cup, and by her lazy smile and pink cheeks, you’re starting to think that perhaps it’s not coffee or hot chocolate.
Everyone quickly falls into the easy chatter that only forms after years of knowing one another. You hold your s’more over the fire as you sit quietly, listening to all the conversations happening around you.
You're pretty sure that whatever is in your mom’s mug she shared with Ellen because the two of them are quietly giggling after every other word. Jim and your dad are talking to Jack about his future and what the draft might be like when it comes around soon. You feel bad for the kid. You’ve heard almost every adult close to Jack give him the same speech. It’s not like he won’t have a future. You’ve seen him play hockey, both for fun and for competition, and know that he’s better than good. Every team is looking at him right now and with his charisma and the way he moves on the ice, he’s guaranteed to become a star almost immediately after being drafted.
Luke and your brother have given up on eating the s’mores altogether and are taking turns throwing marshmallows back and forth to see who can catch the most with only their mouths. After a minute of watching, you can safely say they’re both terrible and that ‘the bear’ coming out to eat the marshmallows is more likely than one of them catching one of them in their mouths.
You stayed quiet, not feeling like participating in any of the conversations. It wouldn’t raise any suspicions, since this annual trip began you were always worn out by the end of the day. Not talking to anyone, eating whatever your dad decides to barbecue, and falling asleep on your mom’s lap. So no one questioned you as you tried to not set your campfire snack on fire and thought about how everything was about to change after you all left the camping grounds and how you weren’t ready for it.
You were so wrapped up in your thoughts that you hadn’t even noticed that Quinn was quiet himself. Not staring down his burnt marshmallow like you put sneaking curious glances your way and silently hoping you would catch him.
With a loud slap on his knee and a groan that only fathers seemed to know how to make your dad stood from his lawn chair.
“It’s been a long day, I think I’ll try to get some sleep so I can wake up early to catch some fish.”
Jim nodded enthusiastically at the prospect of fishing in the morning and stood up as well. Both of the men helped their wives up from their seats, you smiled as they made it difficult for their husbands to walk them to their tents. The swaying a giggling never died down, even when they were inside and the tent was zipped.
You were never one for fishing and why people liked to do it so early in the day perplexed you. You had attempted fishing twice in your life, once with your dad and brother which resulted in you being pushed into the lake by your brother and the other time was on a camping trip where Jim was convinced he could change your mind about fishing. It didn’t work. So now your plans for tomorrow are to lay down a beach blanket near the water and read one of the books you brought with you.
The next ones to stray towards their tents for the night were Luke and your brother. You knew they were going to be next. They enjoyed fishing and spending time with their respective dads.
“Maybe I’ll even catch dinner for us tomorrow!” your brother exclaimed.
You wanted to gag at the idea but you saw the excited look on his face and decided against it. Instead, you gave him a thumbs up and mustered up a, “I’ll wish you luck!”
Jack didn’t say goodnight to anyone but you all saw him run behind one of the trees to vomit all of the sugar he consumed. By now he was most likely in his tent groaning or trying to get a signal on his phone. Probably both.
It didn’t take long for Quinn to stand and bid you goodnight after the other boys left. Your eyes followed him as he walked with his head down to his tent. He had no real reason for leaving. You had watched him sporadically throughout the night and he didn’t seem tired. Perhaps he just didn’t want to stay out here alone with you. You murmur a quiet goodnight back, not sure if he heard it or not but not wanting to say it again.
You weren’t ready for sleep yet. Your mind was still racing and when your thoughts came back to coming home for the holidays and everyone not being there a knot formed in your throat. You had made friends in Oregon and this upcoming year you would likely start networking, which meant meeting new people, and even though you haven’t met them yet, you knew they weren’t going to be better than the people sleeping in the tents less than ten feet away from you.
If it hadn’t been for the chilly early September breeze you probably wouldn’t have noticed the tears on your cheeks. You wiped them away quickly. Everyone had already gone to sleep so you could cry as much as you wanted to and no one would know. No one but you, and you didn’t want to deal with all of those emotions right now. You were only feeling like this because it had been a long day and what you needed was a good night's rest.
You watched the fire die down and when it was only embers left you sprinkled some sand on it to make sure it wouldn’t set the forest ablaze as you all slept. When you were done with that you crawled into your tent and tried to get comfortable in your sleeping bag.
It was futile. The extra blanket didn’t warm you up and the sleeping bag was old and had small holes in it that you didn’t notice when you had packed it. Not even pulling Oliver close to your chest made you feel better.
The tent was cold and hard and despite the rustling leaves and wind outside, it felt silent. You weren’t built to be alone and with your recurring thoughts of everyone leaving and not coming back once school starts up again, you couldn’t find it in yourself to stay in your tent tonight.
You grabbed your extra blanket and Oliver and paused when you were outside. Who could you share a tent with without them making a big deal of it? Your brother and Jack were immediately scratched off that list. They had the biggest mouths known to man. You could seek out the comfort of your parents, similar to when you were little and afraid and you would crawl into their much bigger bed and cuddle between the two of them. They would worry if you did that now and you didn’t want to worry them on the first night of the trip they had come to love.
There was nothing wrong with going to Luke but your body itched to turn the other way and go to Quinn’s tent. He wouldn’t tell anyone and even if he wasn’t sharing the same thoughts out loud, perhaps he was thinking them silently, after all, he was in the same predicament.
Before you could stop yourself you tapped gently on the tent and whispered his name.
Nothing happened, so you continued just a little louder and perhaps with a slight whine. “Quinn! Quinn, open your tent. Quinn, are you asleep?”
Finally, the zipper was tugged down and a disheveled Quinn appeared. Despite his look of annoyance, you could tell that he wasn’t really upset with you. If he was he would have told you to go away by now or never opened the tent.
“What’s wrong?” His words slurred from sleep but his tone was serious.
With a weak smile, you replied, “I think there’s a bear outside my tent that thinks I’m a marshmallow. Can I sleep with you?”
To your surprise, Quinn shuffled to the side of his sleeping bag to make room for you. When you continued to look at him dumbstruck he sighed and waved at the tent flap and said, “Can you come in here already? Also make sure you zip that up. I’m pretty sure that any bear with a sweet tooth will be dissuaded by a zipper.”
You did as he asked and once you did you climbed into the sleeping bag with him. He grunted when you accidentally elbowed him in the stomach and when you kept trying to readjust in the small sleeping area that was only really meant for one Quinn grabbed your waist and rolled you so that your back was against his front. You felt breathless being so close to Quinn, no that wasn’t it, being held so close to him. The two of you grew up together so it didn’t feel strange to sleep in the same area. Sometimes you had to share a bed because your brother and Jack wanted to share one instead. One time when you were sharing an air mattress, it popped and you both had to sleep on the floor after that. You still held firm that the popping was Quinn’s fault.
This was different, though. Out of all the times you had to sleep near Quinn, he never seemed like a cuddler and yet, here you were with his arm slung tightly around you, with his forehead pressed against your neck. Slowly and without saying anything you grabbed his hand that was on your waist, holding you to him, and intertwined your fingers. It felt grounding. How could you spiral when he was so solidly here?
“So are you sticking with the bear story or are you actually going to tell me why you're in my tent?” Quinn said into the quiet darkness.
You didn’t want to answer his question. You wanted to lay here and be held and take up all of his warmth and fall asleep. You also knew that if you didn’t vocalize your fears they would only get bigger and bigger until one day you would simply combust and find yourself living in a cardboard box outside of your childhood home.
You squeezed Oliver with the hand that wasn’t holding Quinn’s and whispered shyly, “I’m afraid of what happens after this. I’m afraid that once I go back to school everything will change and I’ll come home and nothing will be how it was.”
You let out a breath of relief. Even though you couldn’t help but still fret over everything it still felt nice to get all of that off of your chest.
Quinn had remained quiet the whole time and for a moment you thought he was falling asleep until he squeezed your hand and moved his arm under your head to grab Oliver. Quinn wasn’t taking him from you but he held him gently. Almost stroking the worn fuzz on the stuffed orca.
“Things are gonna change,” he finally said. “All of our parents will still be in Michigan and so will your brother and when he goes to college I’m sure he’ll call to annoy you every day.”
You smiled sadly, it was true. Your little brother was like you. He aches for space but needs to know that the people he loves will still be there.
“Doesn’t it scare you?” It’s a whisper, you can barely hear yourself over the pounding of your heart and the blood rushing in your ears.
You didn’t know why you felt scared right now, this was Quinn, the same boy you’ve known nearly all your life. On the other side, though, this is Quinn, the same guy that annoys you more often than not. Who on most days you think he might hate you and you might hate him. Your thumb rubs circles on the hand that’s holding yours. What was it that your mom always said? There’s a thin line between love and hate.
It takes a minute and then two before you think he might not answer. Had his lips not been so close to your neck you wouldn’t have heard him. His words would have been lost with the wind outside.
“Of course I’m scared.” He finally says and before you can cut in he continues. “I’m scared that I won’t be as good as people are hoping I will be when I finally get to play. I’m afraid to be so far away from my family.” He paused again but kept quiet, there was a tension in the air and you knew he wanted to say more. “I know my family will always be there, though. I also know that my friends will be too. I just don’t know about you.”
You went to turn around so that you could see his face and hear his words when he says them. His arms around your waist stop you, though.
“Whether or not I like it, you know everything about me.” You reply, the next part you look at your stuffed Orca so it feels like you're talking to it rather than him. “I think you might be the only person who knows everything about me. You’re always paying attention.”
“Of course, I’ve been paying attention.”
You don’t hesitate and you don’t let yourself think before saying what you want to.
“Why?”
Quinn sighs your name and it sounds like a prayer. It sounds like he’s begging you to just know. Quinn is a man of few words and you want him to say it.
“When I was six a stubborn girl with a stuffed Orca moved in next door to me. You watched me, you saw me, first before you finally looked at my family. For as long as I can remember I’ve been an afterthought to everybody.” Quinn says and his words make you hurt. “I did things to annoy you just so you would notice me because I wanted /your/ attention.”
“That’s very playground of you.” You say lightly, trying to ease the suffocating air in the tent.
Quinn laughs lightly and it tickles your neck. “Then, and here’s the kicker, I get drafted to the Vancouver Canucks, and team far away from everything I know and then I remember that this girl that I’ve been annoying on purpose for years has what can only be described as an emotional support Orca. People have stuffed bears, ducks, or literally anything else. I’ve never seen someone with an Orca and for the first time everything I had and everything I’ve ever wanted became so clear.”
“And what is it that you want?”
He lets go of your hand and sits up on his elbows just so he can look at you when says, “You. Since you got out of that car gripping that stuffed animal in one hand and your dad’s hand in the other all while giving the meanest glare I think I’ve ever seen from a kindergartner.”
“I thought you hated me.”
“I thought you hated me.”
A small smile tugs at the side of your lip, “I thought I did too. If I’m being honest, though, I don’t think I could ever actually hate you.”
The kiss is a surprise. It’s not on your lips or your neck, Quinn simply leans down and places his lips to your forehead. After that, he lays back down behind you and wraps his arm around your torso. You waste no time grabbing his hand and sinking into his embrace.
He’s solid and warm and for the first time in months, your mind doesn’t feel like it’s running a mile a minute.
“Do you believe in fate?”
The question catches you off guard. Fate? Quinn was so practical it seemed like a weird thing for him to ask. Did you believe in it though? If you were asked ten years ago, you would have said yes. If you were asked four years ago you would have said no, but lying in Quinn’s tent and in his arms, you can’t but wonder if maybe you do?
“I don’t know.” You say honestly. “Do you?”
Quinn is quick to answer, “Oh yeah, how else can I explain that the girl I fell for at six would have a favorite stuffed animal that is an Orca, while I’m about to play for Vancouver whose mascot is an orca?”
You smile at that. It did seem rather fate-like if you thought about it like that.
“Well, when you put it like that,” you laugh, as does Quinn. “When you’re off being a hotshot hockey player in Canada you have to promise me something.”
“Hmm, depends on what it is that I have to promise.”
You bit your lip and let your eyes slide down to Oliver. You hoped that Quinn would hear the true meaning of your words when you said them because you doubted you could say them out loud yet. “Just remember that Oliver is your favorite Orca when you’re out there.”
You waited with bated breath. Quinn’s breathing had slowed and for a moment you wondered if he had fallen asleep.
That was until he pulled you closer to himnand said directly in your ear, “Oliver will always be my favorite no matter where I go.”

Second Chance: Chapter 1
Single dad! Bakugou x Black! Reader
Chapter 1
“So yer the beautiful teacher Kasumi always rambles on about” Is what Bakugou wanted to say, instead he looks at her hand. YN is a little confused by his standoffish behavior compared to his daughters extroverted personality.
“Well, it was a pleasure to meet you,” YN smiles generously and then looks down to the child who has a death grip on her leg, “Kasumi make sure to say your goodbyes and have everything, wouldn’t want you to hurry and leave without your high fives and hugs from your papa right?”
“RIGHT” She said a little loud- she has a little trouble with speaking really loud, I need to work on that, thought Katsuki.
“Alright papa, high five and hugs before Ms. YN starts.”
Kasumi loves Ms. YN with as much love a four year old can have for someone. Something just clicked in her mind, that Ms. YN is someone that she loved more than anything besides her papa, of course.
As he heads out he hears someone call his name, “Mr. Bakugou, I completely forgot, just in case you are not her pick up-“
“Who said I wasn’t?” He snapped. His eyes widening and he clears his throat, “I uh, I am picking Kasumi up today” God he felt stupid, felt like he was back in highschool, defensive when he was nervous. She made him so nervous, he wanted to impress her. The glorious and fantastic Ms. YN, the woman his little Kasumi loved. Four year olds love super hero’s and cartoon animals, not Kasumi. Bakugou felt like their first impression was going like shit, and he wasn’t wrong.
YN felt like Bakugou rubbed her the wrong way- stand offish and now rude. This isn’t going as planned. He was the “fantastic” father of Kasumi. The greatest person to ever live, in her eyes. She wanted to show him that she was a capable teacher that loved his daughter, but apparently she is showing herself to be incapable.
Clearly, they're both very incorrect
“Ok, the preschool is having a garden party, all the kids, are so excited about showing their families all that they’ve been growing, its next weekend.” YN gives Bakugou the flier. A group picture in front of the barrels holding the ready-to-be-harvested vegetables.
“I’ll um try to make it-“ he affirms, “Anything I need to bring?”
“Nope. Just bring you, and Kasumi of course.” She sends a smile and turn into the class. He can hear her starting the class as the door closes.
Bakugou must think he looks dumb standing in front of the door with his mouth agape but he can’t seem to care, all he can think is “wow.”
He looks down to check the flier and smiles to himself.
It’s 30 minutes before the garden party and Bakugou feel ridiculous. He hasn’t shaved his “beard’ new growth in about 3 weeks and here he is- shaving it and making sure his hair looks absolutely perfect.
Why you might ask? Well, ask Bakugou he would say “I needed to freshen up, the fuck is wrong with that?”
But he knew he couldn’t completely lie to himself, he feels he made a shit impression on Kasumi’s pretty teacher.
“Kasumi- do you need papa’s help?” Bakugou shouts from the bathroom. He knows she’s four and she wants to be a big girl.
“No, I’m a big girl.” She waddles in.
“Yes, yes you are a big girl. Your papa’s big girl- just because you’re a big girl- doesn’t mean you can’t ask for help. “ She pauses and looks at him for a second and then she eventually smiles and nods, “ok papa.”
Now it’s Bakugous turn to pause waiting for her to say something.
“Is that what you wanted to wear to the garden party?” Looking down at her outfit: yellow shirt, purple leggings, and a green skirt.
“Mhm, Ms. YN said to wear all your favorite things.” Bakugou nodded, “I mean- alright then. Let me do your hair munchkin.”
They both finished getting ready and as Bakugou was strapping Kasumi into her booster, Kasumi bent down to sniff her papa’s hair, “Your hair smells like my hair.”
Bakugou used Kasumi’s hair gel.

A/N: hey y’all- took me a minute to get this out. I was planning on making it longer- but I like having little snippet chapters.
I love this story so far. I have a bunch of fun little plans for the characters. Also I love Kasumi-
Alright I’ll talk to you later with much love,

do u have any tips for getting into ocs and developing them tho 🤔😭
Hmm I’ve had ocs in the past and I’ve wondered why I picked and chose favorites among the cast I made and I thjnk for the ones I didn’t gaf about it was because I was forcing myself to make characters filling space because I thought it would make my story look more complete but it just ended up I neglected those ocs because I found nothing about them fun or compelling to spend time on.
With casey I’ve definitely gone full self indulgence which was probably helped by the fact her concept was literally based on a joke self insert character so the fuel for me spending time with her was my intense fixation on booster gold and how much I wanted to destroy hurt kill bite kill punch to death kick kill him 😀
Make things fun for yourself! Don’t shy away from making things that you know you’re already crazy for … I’m not shy about saying casey as a concept is a culmination of a LOT of favorite characters I’ve had in the past like peridot (su), the invader zim and tak storyline, Daffy Duck .. to name a few!
And I spent a long time perfecting her design so that it was fun to draw for me …. I made her a secretary/office lady type character cuz um. I THINK THEYRE HOT? LOL … and I really like that fashion style I draw her in. So she’s almost like a mannequin for me to draw clothes I really like aesthetically. so I really have a lot of fun drawing her ^_^ you can tell by how much I do it LOL
So my number 1 advice in conceptualizing ocs is to make things fun for yourself. Are your favorite charaxters always mad scientists.. you can make one. Do you think rubber aprons are hot. You can give them one. Have you been struggling with your gender identity. You can make your oc a girl with he him probouns. Do you wish columbo was a lesbian.. you can make it happen.
As for development, as soon as I got the basic deets for casey and her role in the story I had for her to paper I found one of those tumbrl oc ask games and just filled out every single question for her. A lot of stuff was made up on the spot but just felt right and most often stuck that way but there’s no shame in making little changes as your oc grows on you and you get better aquatinted with eachother. For example I had the idea initially casey would have rich/well off and well meaning parents who were extremely normal and loved her a lot and it would be kind of a meet the robinsons “THEY ALL HATED ME” dynamic. But I quickly changed it as I thought more about casey because what I have with her and spider feels more.. fitting.
It also helps a ton if you have a friend willing to lend an ear :) and I don’t mean just 50+ messages discord chats (because those are extremely enlightening too) but I mean just posting and posting and posting about your little guy and getting those precious 4 likes on your lore document. I always take this sort of approach with original stuff LOL IF I POST ABOUT CASEY LIKE A LUNATIC FOREVER EVENTUALLY ILL TRICK EVERYONE INTO THINKING THEYRE CASEY FANS…!!!

Sorry for the rambly answer! I hope I was able to say at least 1 crumb of helpfulness

hi this is me rambling about Booster & Ted’s moral code(s) and it got long because I am a Person With Opinions so it’s under a read more
Boosters sense of morality should always be off. never absent, but always out of step with the broader universe.
he is from a completely different time, with hundreds and hundreds of years of evolving morals, and he’s also someone who has on multiple occasions felt his only option for a happy life required crime
boosters sense of right and wrong is defined less by a moral code and more so by the pursuit of four things: fame, money, respect, and the safety of His People. He is also never happy with good enough. If he has three of those, he’s willing to risk it all for the forth. His own well-being is rarely his priority, and at his worst, he’ll trade his own safety for a buck, and at his best, he’ll trade it to keep safe people like Ted, Skeets, Michelle, his kids, etc etc.
and people often position ted as the opposite of this, as booster’s morality chain. Which is such a boring interpretation without merit. Ted and Booster work because in the beginning, Ted is also driven by that collision of compassion and self-interest with a lack of concern for legality.
Ted got fired as a CEO for caring too much about playing the hero and because he was more concerned with looking out for marginalized groups than with Kord Industries bottom line. During 80s BB, ted is criticized for going against the police and the president while following his own moral code, and in JLI, he continues to have a major chip on his shoulder about authority, criticizing the military-industrial complex specifically.
But teds also deeply, deeply self-interested. In fact, it’s Booster who realizes what they’re doing to the vampire in #25, and it’s Ted who keeps pushing them forward until it’s too late. Just like Booster looks out for his people before the general populace, Ted’s priority in JLI is Booster & himself.
Tumblr media
And to me, that is their appeal! (And honestly the appeal of the whole JLI) I think flattening them down into one or the other—saintly misunderstood heroes or stupid narcissists—and especially demonizing one to make the other look more heroic is just such a waste of two interesting characters who can add a lot to the universe

A bit late because lol, rl, but as a blog about my Mario opinions, I can’t resist rambling a bit about my opinions of stuff in a direct full of Mario stuff.
Ordering them in how excited I am for each of them, though in the end I am happy about all of these, it’s just a way to decide how to order them.
Tumblr media
Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon Switch
I genuinely like Dark Moon and honestly don’t think it's rep as the lesser of the three games in some circles is earned, so seeing a Switch version is welcome in my book.
That said, I do have some concerns with how choppy the game looks in places. The original had a few moments like this too, but in a HD re-release…yeah you gotta clean that up. Odds are that may even happen, given the game isn’t due until next year.
Besides that, yeah, Dark Moon on Switch. I like the game and will gladly get this and use it as an excuse to replay it, but odds are there isn’t gonna be much new here. Not a bad thing, just makes me struggle to put this higher up here.
Tumblr media
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope DLC
It looks good, I’ll play it and that is honestly it.
This may be worth a discussion of its own, but while I like Sparks of Hope and even prefer some aspects of it over the original, it didn’t stick with me in the long run like the first game and it seems many feel the same way.
Hard to say what it is, but I am sure I will enjoy this, it’s just that at this point, I am really mostly interested in Rayman when it comes to this game,
The mechanical King Bob-omb’s pretty sick though.
Tumblr media
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 5
Fun idea for a new racetrack and a very solid selection of new characters. Good first impressions.
We still don’t know the other 7 tracks, but I do genuinely think every new wave so far has been better than the last, so I am in good spirits about it and Mario Kart 8 is something I can keep coming back to for another round very easily.
Tumblr media
New Peach Game
This is easily the most surprising one in its mere existence.
With how little has been shown so far, it’s hard to really have a strong opinion on things, but the stage play theme does make one wonder what could be and little details like Peach not having her crown really are curious.
Above all else though, I am just excited this is a thing. Spin-offs focusing on other characters are always among the most interesting new releases. They allow for experimentation with ideas that may be seen as not fitting Mario himself and after the 2000s, the well of new ones dried up really substantially.
Peach is also still a very unexplored character for this, even her first game is still heavily grounded in regular Mario stuff, while this is looking to be more of a Luigi’s Mansion kind of spin-off, so I am very intrigued.
Tumblr media
Super Mario Wonder
Quite frankly, this game, in everything we have seen, feels like an outright apology for how static and safe 2D Marios have been in the NSMB era.
With this is one, it really feels like there was a desire to just get weird and I can vibe with that. The sections for collecting Wonder Seeds seem really creative and out there, with a lot of variety at that and the trippy nature of the first one in particular is a stand-out.
Besides that we got a surprising roster of characters, with the most out there choice being Daisy. Nintendo actually using their characters? Crazy talk.
In all seriousness, I appreciate them expanding beyond Mario and Luigi on a more regular basis now and what helps charm me even more is how expressive and alive the characters are.
Everyone around on social media has likely seen these comparison shots already:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But even beyond that you have little things like the characters reacting to the spiked boulder about to chase them:
Tumblr media
I just adore stuff like this and hope the game is full of that.
Beyond that there are still a lot of little things, like the not-Toad NPC, the elephant power-up, that wild looking Bowser Jr, etc. Loads to see and I can’t wait for more info.
My only gripe is that they are still passing up Toad in favor of colorful generics. It’s not gonna make me less excited for the game, even though I feel cheated out of one of my favs, but I wish Nintendo would finally stop doing that.
Tumblr media
Super Mario RPG Remake
I won’t lie, when leakers mentioned this one, I wasn’t all that thrilled.
Not because I don’t like RPG or the idea of a remake, but because I expected it to be butchered. Part of its charm is that it is a time capsule to an era where Mario’s now known visual identity and several concepts didn’t exist yet. I fully expected that to be done away with, for the sake of brand consistency, on top of some of the more undesirable changes from the Mario & Luigi remakes.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Genuinely, I was so caught off-guard by everything shown here. Mario, Peach and Bowser are updated to their modern looks, which is perfectly fine, but beyond that, it is genuinely amazing how much they retained the original.
All the original characters are still present which, granted, wasn't unlikely, but still lovely to see.
They retained a more chibi proportioned look, in-line with the original’s renders and sprites.
The environments still look as they did back then, no NSMB colorful hills in the grassland area or anything. They even resisted the temptation to update Peach’s castle to its standard look.
Most shocking of all, the old Toad NPC designs, my favorites in all Mario games, are left intact:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And as an extra bone as a Toad fan, after Wonder disappointed, they even gave him dibs on the blue vest, to further distinguish him from the rest of his species.
Everything just looks so nice. The models and environments, the music, the cutscenes, it’s a charmer across the board.
Much like with Luigi’s Mansion, it’s up in the air how much new there will be content-wise, but honestly, I am fine regardless what direction it takes.
I’m just happy to have a reminder of what Mario RPGs used to be and I will gladly support it to show I miss that kinda stuff, on top of my adoration for the original.
Tumblr media
WarioWare Move It!
The Wario fan is most excited for the Wario game, say what?
In all seriousness of course this makes me incredibly happy. Smooth Moves was my favorite WarioWare before the big revival with Gold and GiT and a follow-up with the joycon as the main focus always made sense.
This is very much a traditional WarioWare to its core and frankly, that is amazing, it even embraces the low quality, cursed 3D models from Smooth Moves that I love with all my heart. I would have also liked a GiT follow-up, but this always made the most sense for a second Switch entry and I am happy they aren’t sleeping on it.
The extra stuff like the board game mode also adds some intrigue, not enough to see what this will be like yet, but I am always glad to get some extra offerings beyond the regular stages.
That aside you got the fun vacation theme, 13-Amp possibly being a host now, some lovely Smooth Moves callbacks like the return of forms and so on. I am nothing but excited.
And this is yet another one I am happy just exists. This is the first time since the Wii that Wario has gotten more than one new game on a system and so soon after GiT no less. WarioWare is in a healthy state again and that is huge.
So yeah, banger after banger and a nice uptick after the 2022 Mario output was on the lacking side. I’ll always defend Battle League in many aspects, but it still sucks content-wise and Sparks of Hope, while good, is pretty lacking in the Mario aspect.
Between the 2023 releases out of these and the movie though, we truly have a banger year for anything Mario.

Hey I followed to see that DC Disability public essay, so I’m new to this blog. It had me wondering what was your journey of discovering DC and it’s characters and what are your favorite comics, stories and characters?
Hi! Welcome and I'm sorry this blog is kinda my "put everything i think of" train of thought blog. But it's also my only blog lol! Thank you for being interested in the Essay. It's not near done as I'm still taking responses but we will get there. Rest is under cut because i accidentally rambled on.
As far as my journey with DC comics I feel like Dc has just been a part of my life forever- I've grown up in this world where caped stories are pop culture and everywhere and when i was growing up like EVERY cartoon about heroes was about the dc ones (brave and the bold, batman the animated series, justice league)
Actually my first memory I can recall is seeing an episode of justice league on the tv and seeing john stewart green lantern.
Though I wouldnt of called myself a fan really back then because my special interests for most of my life started with Sonic and then Transformers. But in my opinion the base of both of those universes and stories is the same as caped comics so it makes sense I eventually got into them fully.
I don't think I've told the story about how I started actually reading the comics but basically I was homeless at 17 and thats when my love for these comics started. I started reading old batman comics because around then I had met my boyfriend whos special interest was batman so that was my way of both distracting myself and bonding with him.
BUT through batman comics I got introduced to Blue Beetle and Booster Gold and I instantly shifted to reading the Blue beetle comics (sorry to booster i didnt read vol 1 until maybe a year later) specifically the 1986 solo about Ted Kord.
Like I mentioned I was homeless at the time and I hadn't even been diagnosed yet with any of my illnesses I had been suffering from for 5+ years at that time. But within those comics there are two very special stories that cemented my love for these comics and its.
1. Ted has an issue where he goes around the streets of Chicago at night because someone is killing homeless people. In other stories i'd read heroes would maybe briefly talk to the homeless if at all. But instead of that Ted the entire comic sits down with people and speaks to them and gets their stories. I remember reading it and feeling "oh, this is a hero who would actually care to sit down on the sidewalk with me. This is special".
2. There is another story in this run where Ted basically defends the life of this kid who ran away from home and has no immune system and sets out a way to help him. Not the best but I was relating to the kid at the time.
I ended up carrying around an issue relating to Ted in my backpack for most of that time just because it was special to me. Anyways its pretty much history from there I ended up getting into Booster Gold and other heroes as I looked further into these stories and learned more about teams and etc. But Ted Kord will always be special to me, especially since he also has a chronic condition.
As my condition progressed this became one of my outlets for expression and it still is. Through reading I found that a lot more of these heroes were disabled than I had previously thought because NOBODY talked about it. I remember at first not knowing Booster had lost an arm because it just wasn't something I saw mentioned (though back then like. Nobody was posting abt him or ted hardly. you'd be surprised it was like they had a lull in popularity for a bit which makes sense they were not in comics) so I kinda have made it so I talk about these things so they are in peoples minds more. At least a bit.
As far as my Favorite comics go I have to say my favorite comic is Justice Leagues Quarterly 10, but you'd probably want to know the JLI roster before reading it if you dont. JLQ has very fun collections of stories. I try to recc blue beetle 1986 to people too just because it's special to me same for booster gold 1986.
Speaking of essays, here is one I wrote about Booster Gold and his relationship with disability.

I was looking for some new skeptic stories
But all I seeing is you simping for a washing machine man
(No hate, but still)
SIMPING FOR!? I would personally destroy that damn machine with my bare fists if he were real!
(Anyway, since you mentioned my darling gremlin Tomoyasu, I’ve had this stupid idea in my drafts for a hot minute now lol. Hope some Dad!Skeptic is okay with yah!)
~Dad!Skeptic: The Apple Doesn’t Fall To Far From The Tree~
Tumblr media
headcanon|scenario|imagine|match-up
“Hey Tomoyasu, you busy?” Your head popped through the doorway of the office. He stopped typing for a moment and stared at you. Although his bangs covered his eyes, you already knew what his expression was. “Y/N are you dense? I’m always busy.” You laughed before walking in the room and standing behind him. He went back to typing as your rubbed the tenseness out of his shoulders. “Well I just needed a favor from you is all. Think you can handle it?” He hummed and paused his typing once more. “What’s in it for me?” He was already going to do whatever you asked. This was just him playing around with you. “What’s in for you hmm? Well...” You leaned down and whispered in his ear, first moving the hair out of the way of course. “I’ll show you that special little outfit I bought from the mall after Tomoko goes to sleep. I have a feeling you’ll want to see me in it~” He gulped before quickly saving his work and shutting his laptop.
“I’m listening.”
“I need you to pick Tomoko up from school today.” He immediately grimaced. “No deal.” He grunted before swiveling back around in his chair and opening his laptop again. “Awww c’mon Skeptic! I really need your help with it! I need to run to the store and grab the ingredients for dinner tonight since I got caught up napping earlier. I didn’t have time to do it. Pleeeease?” He scoffed and shook his head. “Hell no. You know I don’t do well in traffic. It’s 3:00 and you already know the road is cluttered with a bunch of dimwits that don’t know how to drive. I’m not doing it.” You groaned  as you wrapped your arms around him and placed your head atop his. “Pretty please? I’ll do anything Tomoyasu!” He sighed in defeat and closed his laptop once more. You let go of him and stepped back as he swiveled around in the chair before standing up to face you. “Anything eh? Alright fine. 3 rounds tonight. I want you worn out, got it?” You smiled and nodded. “Deal.”
----------------------------------------
Tomoyasu groaned as he leaned his head against the window of the car. The radio played softly, complimenting the gentle atmosphere provided by the steady wind blowing from the AC vents. His head perked up a bit when he noticed the teachers finally emerging from the glass double doors in front of the building. He kept a close eye on the lines coming from the entryway until he locked eyes on his princess. He smiled and got out of the car, waving her over to him. “Daddy!!!” She immediately let go of the rope that the rest of the line was holding onto, running her tiny little feet down the sidewalk until she crashed into his legs. “You’re here to pick me up!?” She spoke loudly and he laughed. “Today I am, yes. I missed you.” He picked her up and spun her around before hugging her tightly. “I love you daddy! I did a lot of stuff in school today! And did you know Penguin starts with the letter P?” She began rambling about her day as he strapped her into her booster seat. “Is that so? You’re getting to be so smart Tomo.” He smiled before pinching her cheek. She giggled and grabbed his finger in her chubby little hand. “Like you daddy?” He nodded before clicking the seat straps in. “Just like me. Now let’s hurry and get home. Dinner should be just about started when we get there.” He snickered at the way his daughter loudly shouted out ‘yaaaaaaaaaaay’ as though she’d never lose her excitement over the simple things.
The joy of the ride home wouldn’t last too much longer once he made it into the crowd of cars on the freeway. Tomoyasu was doing much better at managing his anger since Tomoko was born/adopted, but even the calmest man had his limits. Road rage was a different kind of demon when it came to him. While you overestimated his ability to handle it, he knew just how much he could and couldn’t take.
And this?
He could not take...
“Ughhhhh.” He began gritting his teeth. So far he’d been cut off by a few people, stuck behind someone deciding to go 10 under the speed limit, and he’d got caught up at every single red-light on the way home. Now he was dealing with trying to pass someone that refused to use a signal for the past couple of miles. The straw that broke the camel’s back you ask? When he was going to get over and a truck sped up instead of letting him get by. He missed his exit and now would have to spend another 10 minutes taking a different route home. This extended his trip far beyond it’s anticipated time, and made it so he wouldn’t be home when he felt he needed to be. “Grrrrrr...YOU STUPID FUCKING ASSHOLE! I’LL GUT YOU LIKE A FISH-ooooo!” He quickly covered his mouth with one hand. “Daddy?”
No...
“What’s a fucking asshole???”
Oh no...
“T-Tomoko listen to me. That is a very bad word. Do not say it because you’ll get in trouble. Especially do not say it in front of mommy/daddy/Y/N, got it? Can you promise me?” He waited nervously for a reply. “But daddy, if it’s a bad word then why come you said it?” Tomoyasu sighed shakily as he finally turned down the street you lived on. “I said it because I was very upset at the car on the road. But I shouldn’t have said that. I’m going to put myself in time out when I get inside.” He pulled into the driveway and got out of the car to help Tomoko out of her seat. Before heading into the house he kneeled to her level and stared at her, sweeping his bangs to the side so she could see his eyes and know he was serious. “Tomoko remember what daddy said okay? Do NOT say those awful, terrible, bad words in front of mommy/daddy/Y/N, okay? You have to promise me okay?” She smiled widely and shook her head. “Okay daddy!!!!” Her promise was null and void because about 20 minutes later at the dinner table she dropped her fork and growled. “My fork fell on the ground and it’s all dirty now. STUPID FUCKING ASSHOLE!” Your fork was the next thing to drop (right after your jaw). “Oops! I’m sorry daddy!” Tomoko quickly went to pick up and fork before heading into the kitchen and stepping onto her little stool to try and wash it off in the sink. Your eyes immediately cut to him, glaring fire. He didn’t need any words to know he was in trouble.
“Tomoyasu...?😠”

Concept: The Edd Identity
So here is a more comprehensive look at that idea for a hypothetical Ed, Edd n Eddy/Codename Kids Next Door crossover special I brought up a few days ago. XD
--
Titlecard: The Edd Identity (or alternatively ‘The Edd Ed-entity’ or ‘The Edd Ed-en-Eddy’)
We open with Double-D groggily regaining consciousness, waking to the aftermath of yet another of the trio’s scams. Not something as crazy as what kicked off the finale movie but rather something more standard for the show. Eddy is trying to placate a pissed-off Sarah and/or Kevin while Ed ambles about in his typical blissful ignorance.
Double-D for his part is left rubbing his head where something clearly knocked him out, looking at the remains of the contraption he built for Eddy’s latest hare-brained scheme with what seems to be a curious new perspective. Absently, he starts tinkering with some of the scattered parts…
Back with Eddy, negotiations have unsurprisingly broken down, and Sarah and Kevin and perhaps Rolf are fully prepared to deliver an expected ass-kicking to the three boys. Eddy decides this is the opportune time to cheese it and grabs Ed and Double-D to beat a hasty escape, maybe on some cart or other vehicle left over from the scam, with the other kids in hot pursuit.
However, this is where things start getting a little… strange.
While Eddy has his standard bravado going on and Ed is just having a good time, Double-D is oddly calm and composed, seemingly unperturbed by their current danger as he works on something.
Not only that, but when the trio seemed poised to wipe out and face the usual retribution from the other cul-de-sac kids, Double-D manages to save them with some quick-thinking and some hastily-assembled gadgets to throw off their pursuers. Like a hastily assembled rocket-booster made out of tin-cans for their cart and a smoke bomb combined with some soda and bubblegum that obscures their escape and leaves their pursuers temporarily stuck.
Needless to say, both Ed and Eddy watch all of them play out in fairly abject shock.
Having successfully escaped with their hides intact for once, the boys regroup at their houses. Ed is mostly gushing about how cool Double-D was while Eddy is both amazed at what just happened and also wondering since when to Double-D’s gadgets work as advertised.
However, Double-D has nothing to say as he’s already going inside his house, basically slamming the door in the other two Eds’ faces
Needless to say, Ed and Eddy are confused/miffed respectively and immediately start trying to either get Double-D’s attention or get into the house. When they finally manage to get inside, they find Edd holed up in his room working furiously, having already assembled several more seemingly random gadgets and drawn up several more plans stuck to the walls or scattered on the floor.
Eddy finally asks Double-D what is wrong with him, only for Edd to suddenly grab him and with a wild look respond; “I DON’T KNOW!”
Double-D then launches into a frantic rant about how all this stuff suddenly CAME to him after he got that blow to the head, how he suddenly KNOWS all this stuff that’s now just pouring out of his head and he doesn’t know why.
He frantically shows Eddy a few of the plans he’s drawn up, such as a schematic for what looks like a complicated fishing rod but what Double-D calls a ‘high-orbital space-hook to assist spacecraft in achieving escape-velocity’, or a blueprint for a ‘deep-sea covert mining/refining facility for converting raw-coffee deposits into hot chocolate’. All of the designs seemingly cobbled together from random bits of junk yet all looking to be quite well thought out. All the while Double-D keeps rambling about how he has no idea where all this is coming from or how he learned all of this but it feels like he always knew this but somehow forgot.
Eddy of course can’t make heads or tails of any of this and is mostly wondering how they can turn one of these into another scam, while in the background Ed seems oddly fixated on one drawing in particular…
All this is halted however when the boys suddenly hear banging and yelling at Double-D’s door. It seems Kevin and Sarah have found them. They’ve also recruited much of the rest of the cul-de-sac kids to help, or just watch the show.
And while Eddy and Ed are freaking out and trying to find a way to escape, Double-D simply grabs something he’d been tinkering with and heads to the front door. Cracking open the door, he tries to talk to Kevin, politely asking, in his normal diplomatic tone, to please come back later, as he’s dealing with a few things right now.
Kevin’s comedically put off by this for a moment but quickly makes a retort related to his fist in a dork’s face. Double-D simply sighs, and opens the door. Meeting Kevin with a rather familiar contraption that looks like a rifle with a couple of magnetized planks of wood.
And with one shot from a S.P.L.A.N.K.E.R., Kevin is sent flying.
From there the Eds make another escape while the rest of the kids are too shocked/dumbfounded/unconscious to give chase.
We then pull out to reveal a small drone observing all of this from afar. Cutting to a dark room, we see a monitor showing a view from the drone zooming in on Double-D. And a couple of mysterious figures comment how they’ve ‘found him’ and to ‘call it in’.
We later find the Eds now hiding out in the junkyard. Double-D is brooding while Eddy rails on how crazy this is and what is even going on while fiddling with the Splanker. Of course, he only succeeds in ‘splanking’ himself in the face. For all of his ranting, it’s clear that Eddy simply has no idea what is going on and has no idea how to react to all this.
Double-D finally starts talking, revealing that he was never actually sure how he knew everything he did about building the various contraptions for their scams. He just… knew how to do all of it. But he was never quite sure HOW… And now he’s thinking this might be the missing piece to all of it…
Eddy of course has no idea how to take this. Meanwhile, Ed is playing with the Splanker, though curiously, unlike Eddy he seems to immediately understand how to use it…
Any further discussion is halted when Double-D hears something. It sounds like someone is poking around outside. Eddy waves it off, assuming it’s just Kevin, Sarah or one of the others, confident that they’d never find this hideout, but Double-D isn’t so sure…
That’s when the explosions start.
Massive holes are suddenly blown in the walls and ceiling, smoke and flashbang grenades are tossed in, and numerous dark figures rush in. All three of the Eds are tazed, roped and tackled to the ground immediately. Eddy’s previous bravado evaporates as he starts freaking out in abject terror, assuming it’s the fuzz come for him for all of his years of scams. But his terrified screaming only gets him tazed again.
As the smoke clears, their attackers are revealed as numerous kids in uniform, including one boy with an orange hoodie and blonde bowlcut who tazed Eddy, and a girl with long black hair wearing a green sweater sitting on a now-trussed-up Ed. Out of the smoke, another figure enters: A boy in red with a bald head and sunglasses, flanked by another boy in blue wearing an aviators goggles and cap, and a girl with a long braid and red cap.
The boy in sunglasses, clearly the leader, approaches a now-prone and tied-up Double-D and addresses him in a grave voice:
“You’re a hard kid to find, Numbuh 2R20. We have some questions for you.”
-----
From here, my ideas for this whole thing get a lot more loose and free form, but here are some of the highlights I’ve come up with:
Double D, or Numbuh 2R20, used to be one of the top engineers and R&D specialists in the Kids Next Door, but vanished after the top-secret, deep-sea facility he was working as was destroyed in a mysterious accident. An accident that some surviving surveillance records imply that HE might have caused. He also turns out to be an old friend of Numbuh 2’s, as they worked together on a number of high-profile projects.
As should be pretty obvious by now, this whole idea takes the form of a broad parody of the Bourne Identity, though with one twist being that Double-D isn’t so much an assassin or secret agent, but an engineer and researcher, which leaves him far less capable of simply fighting his way out of situations. However, the whole ‘conspiracy thriller’ angle is fully intact.
Speaking of fighting, one fun concept for this whole idea is showing what the Kids Next Door look like to ‘civilian’ kids. As in, while they may have their bumbling moments from an insider’s viewpoint, from an outsider, these are in fact a bunch of secret agents/spies/commandos/assassins running a world-spanning underground organization.
Like whenever this crossover focuses on Eddy or any of the other cul-de-sac kids, it’s clear that he is ENTIRELY out of his depth in this situation. Like if we’re talking movie parallels, Eddy is basically the Marie to Double-D’s Bourne XD
Also, the big twist winds up being that Ed is ALSO an ex-KND operative. Specifically, he’s the product of what was essentially a secret super soldier program that Double-D was working on. And yeah, this would be a way of explaining why Ed is so freakishly strong and durable.

RAMBLE AWAY!!! I need a fix of my favorite pair
Gonna talk about them in the Medieval Fantasy Au because honestly they're great.
This is gonna get long.
Keegan's honestly a bit of a cunt the first time he meets Logan because Ajax his bestie and also Keeper just fucking died so he's incredibly upset and even more stressed.
Why is Ajax his Keeper? (And what the fuck is a Keeper?) Well see, Keegan's whole deal is that he's kinda cursed. He's immortal, which is very nice, but every 25 years his memory resets. Like total amnesia: He passes out and wakes up pretty much mute and totally clueless about everything. (I call it Fucked Up Magical Anterograde Amnesia.) So a few cycles ago (I forget the exact timeline I had set up but right after their universes version of Sand Viper.) Ajax got assigned to help Keegan keep track of his past lives and help him re-learn them once the current cycle resets. And a Keeper is pretty much anyone that looks after and protects someone else as like their literal sole goal in life.
So Keegan's greif starts right off in the Anger stage. But Logan's really stubborn and honestly Keegan isn't as mean as he pretends to be, so as soon as Logan asks what's really got Keegan's loincloth in a loop the guy folds and he spills the half-secret that is his whole curse.
And Logan's like "Woah, that sucks. So what you need a new Keeper? I can help." and Keegan is like "HA, you'll be dead in like two cycles." and Logan's like "Boy do I have a surprise for you." because he's half elf so he's guaranteed to live a really long time if everything goes right.
So Keegan, now out of excuses and also lacking a lot of fucks just goes "Aight." and boom, Logan is his Keeper. But also to keep the whole Keeper and Kept relationship fair Keegan kinda demands that he be Logan's sole bodyguard. Because he is of able body, it's just that his brain fucking implodes every 25 years.
So boom, nice start to a great relationship: You both swear to look after and protect each other until a point where one of you literally cannot for whatever reason. Though they are reasonable and it's more of a verbal agreement (Trial period.) for now rather than an actual oath.
Through the whole story, which is just the entirety of Ghosts Medevilized, both of them do really well to look after each other. Logan hangs out up in Keegan's room a lot because he's trying to memorize all the notes/books he has on his previous cycle in the case that they might be destroyed for whatever reason, and Keegan does really well to make sure his prince is safe on all the adventures they go on.
It's great.
Then Elias dies.
Less great.
Logan's all kinds of fucked up by it and because of Hesh's ascent to the throne it make him the next heir, which is like even more dangerous than being second heir, especially knowing that Rorke really really wants them all dead.
So they decide to go ahead and make the whole Keeper and Kept thing official because it's a bit of a morale booster. (Seeing as the king literally just fucking died.) From an outside perspective they are just Prince and Knight, but at this point they are romantically involved and the whole thing is like one degree away from a wedding.
And Logan kinda accidentally literally makes a magic pact in the moment because he's very emotonal and a sorcerer, these things happen. So he and Keegan are literally magically bound together. Their specific deal is that Keegan will always be drawn to wherever Logan is.
Also they picked up a dragon between the verbal acceptance of the pact and the official sworn oath bit, and they raised it like it's their child. (Yes, I made Uriel a dragon. Because fuck yes, dragons, and also I love Uriel.)
Then the trainwreck that is their life continues to get worse as the final battle pops off. Everything that could possibly go wrong goes wrong.
First problem is that Rorke gets the drop on Hesh and Logan, because of fucking course he does.
Second problem is that when Keegan tries to help, because he is there he just got busy killing Rorke's wyrm, the cycle resets. (The wyrm is like. A massive lizard/dragon WORM that can burrow under ground like it's water. Terrifying. Also Rorke rode it into battle which is kinda badass.)
Rorke realizes this and kinda just leaves the poor bastard, so this new cycle of Keegan's is him waking up in the middle of a battlefield, watching some guy laugh at him before walking away with some other guy slung over his shoulder. And he doesn't even realize the significance of it.
Whole bunch of bullshit happens including Keegan getting fucking BANISHED by Hesh. (Don't be mad at the himbo, he has his reasons.)
Literally a hundred years later, four cycles during which Keegan had no Keeper, some very plot spoilery things happen. In order to avoid spoiling the ever loving fuck out of this fic in the case that I do write it I won't go into detail but the magic part of Logan and Keegans pact comes in clutch.
Anyways. They're very gay and happy together. They figured out the reason for Keegan's cycle together, and while there's no cure for it (Short of DEATH, which is a no-go.) they work together to accommodate it. And everytime the cycle resets, Keegan falls in love with Logan again.
Then Keegan's ex-husband comes back, but that's a story for another day.

Hawkins Rambles: Personal Story, not related to Fandom content
TW: MDNI please!! piercings, mentions of blood, cis female anatomy, healing process, body modifications, tattoos, IUDs/process
My body guys, but I'm so happy with my choice I just have to share. Mutuals or followers, please feel free to send me an ask if you want to know more, but please be respectful.
So yesterday I went and got my nipples pierced and i dont regret it one bit!
I made sure to do my research on the artists in my area and I was very observant when I went for my consultation/piercing to make sure they were using proper STERILE equipment. My artist in particular used at least ten pairs of gloves for me alone and even stepped out of the room when she got a tickle in her throat and had to cough. She was so respectful and calming through the whole process and she even expressed that it's totally okay for a client to walk out of an appointment if they aren't vibing with their artist. My roommate came with me and it was such a good experience.
I already love how they look. Looking down, it's still a bit of a shock, but in the mirror I absolutely love them. I've been tatted a couple times and I'd say the shock is comparable; the 'oh I forgot that's there' type surprise. The biggest thing I'm already liking is that this is a little secret for myself, it's a big confidence booster. I'm currently single, so I really did get pierced for myself. Just a fun "F it we ball" move.
I will not lie, they hurt like a mofo, but they weren't the worst pain I've had in my life. For context: I am a cis female and I've had two IUD insertions. Those two I would consider the worst pain of my life (I literally dissociated during both to the point the nurse thought I passed out). I would consider these the second most painful thing I've had done. The thing about an IUD insertion is that the pain lasts for multiple minutes, whereas the piercing is extreme pain when the needle goes through for 2-3 seconds, but then adrenaline takes over and you go kind of numb.
My piercer started on the left. Gave me ~10 break, then did the right. She said in her experience, people react worse to the left than the right, but for me the right felt worse. I didn't bleed a whole lot, just a bit of 'crusties' afterwards, my piercer was pretty diligent in rinsing me with saline during the process. I didn't pass out or flinch really badly (piercer said I sat really well and was shocked that my heart rate was only 76bpm after), but I did get a little woozy after the second piercing (just fuzzy in the head and pins and needles in my hands). I chilled in the seat for a bit and finished an iced tea I got from Starbucks beforehand and I was good to go in ~15 minutes. I brought a comfy bralette with my to the appointment and chose to wear it home which helped with the car ride. I stayed in the bralette for the rest of the night and slept in it. For me, I'm a member of the itty bitty titty committee and the slight snug pressure was comforting for me. I also took some acetaminophen (avoid advil/aspirin since these can affect blood clotting) for the residual pain and I'm feeling good today, almost like I'm not even pierced. I'm very careful and body-aware, so I haven't knocked them or caught them on anything. I also do kind of like they they're a piercing, so if I get tired of them, I can just take them out, but that's not happening any time soon!
As always RESEARCH when you're looking to get body modifications to make sure the one you're considering is the one for you, find a shop and artist that makes you feel safe and comfy, bring the supports you need (snacks, fluids, moral support) and enjoy the experience!

please tell me everything about your Karube lives au cause this is the content I live for
okay so this is gonna be long and rambling, i haven’t fully plotted it out (if i had i might just write it) and i don't usually write enemies-to-lovers or anything like that, but here’s the thoughts™!
background, this was initially a ‘niragi, but decent’ fixit fic around the idea of arisu, karube, chota, and niragi in the real world. we know from chota that arisu and karube protected him from bullies and i had an idea of ‘what if niragi had people who stepped in to stop his bullies and be his friends?’.
through a wild series of thoughts, that then in turn became: karube would’ve kicked niragi’s ass at the beach if he’d made it there.
so i didn’t plan exactly how karube lives through the seven of hearts games, i don’t think it really matters, the last time i wrote a ‘??? lives!’ fic someone called it ‘cap’ in the comments so, like, it doesn’t matter, f*ck it, he lives, we ball. arisu lives too because he’s the main character and i need him there to make this work anyway. sorry chota and shibuki.
anyway, they end up at the beach in the same way as canon, with usagi meeting a pretty depressed, ‘survivor’s guilt’-ridden arisu and karube and karube is doing his best to help arisu but it’s not easy and he’s sad too. eventually they all get hauled into the beach. karube is basically already in the appropriate attire with his hawaiian shirt, he’s just gotta ditch the jeans.
after the first round of games when they’re at the pool and get approached by aguni and the militants, karube goes in swinging to defend arisu. niragi ends up on his ass with a bloody nose and i’m giving him more obvious ptsd over his bullying. the bloody nose, aguni casual chatting with karube (karube being the only one aguni likes? yes), the beach-goers laughing at niragi because they haven’t seen anyone stand up to the militants, well it all culminates in a trauma-responding niragi attacking karube to the point where they both end up falling in the pool mid-wrestle and that’s when hatter comes in to put a stop to it.
after it’s broken up and arisu is leaving with hatter, aguni offers karube a spot on the militants. niragi is pissed about it, spitting and fussing like a wet cat. karube takes the offer, but he’s plainly nicer than the rest of them to the point where he’s the only one the rest of the residents even get along with because he's not a total gun-toting douche.
i do think it’d be funny if niragi and karube had to do a game together. hatter sends them off together as a ‘moral booster’ because they’re clearly not getting along. they both hate it. niragi gets his manga, diamond specialty, intelligence back. karube, despite himself, ends up saving niragi from losing the game. their respect for each other still only goes up by like 5-10% but at least they're not always at each other's necks (though 9 times outta 10, they are). hatter considers it a win.
chishiya does not bring karube into his little betrayal plan; in part because even if he’s with the militants, chishiya can see karube is more loyal to arisu; also in part that he’s sure karube could see right through his lies and doesn’t trust chishiya as far as he could throw him. to also get around karube finding out, chishiya tells aguni directly and warns against him telling karube. as such, when arisu and usagi get caught, karube is too late to stop any of it.
karube gives chishiya a black eye when he finds him. kuina laughs at chishiya over it when they meet up later to leave the beach and says she warned him it would happen if he messed with arisu.
when the ten of hearts game starts, karube is looking for where arisu’s been locked up. he’s been all but formally kicked off the militants, so they don’t trust him anymore and won’t tell him anything. game start, he avoids the militants and tries to help the residents where he can while looking for arisu. deciding he doesn’t have time to check every room, he goes directly to niragi.
niragi is, of course, up on the roof, sniping down residents like fish in a barrel. karube gets to him before chishiya does. argument ensue, a fistfight breaks out because karube gets in close quick and niragi doesn’t have time to get his gun up, it ends with karube grabbing niragi by the front of his shirt. (btw karube is like an inch taller than niragi, it’s an important note to me). tensions running high, all the adrenaline, they’re that close and breathing hard, it’s the perfect opportune time for a hate kiss. gotta love a high tension, inappropriately timed hate kiss.
chishiya is watching because he’s a sneaky bitch who came up here to kill niragi but stopped to watch this karube and niragi thing turn out. (it’s just a kiss, they’re both pissed and conflicted about it). he hides away when karube goes to leave. niragi probably still ends up on fire (unfortunately?), idk, i haven’t decided on anything yet.
anyway, things play out as regular from there for the end of the first season. karube finds usagi and helps her get arisu. the beach goes up in flames, niragi and aguni are potentially dead. the trio and chishiya + kuina meet up at the dealer’s subway headquarters. round 2 starts.
i haven’t got as much planned for season 2.
karube gets away with the group in the car (sorry usagi you’re gonna hafta to sit on arisu’s lap how terrible oh nooo~), he heads with them to the king of clubs game, only for niragi to already have the bracelet on and there not be enough left. tatta still goes in because i can’t think of another way for this game to go without someone dying or losing a hand, sorry tatta.
i like to think that kuina and karube would get along. so karube entrusts arisu’s protection to usagi and he goes off with kuina when she leaves to look for ann and chishiya (even though he still doesn’t even like chishiya). they probably briefly split up to get through games quicker and not risk having to kill each other in a game and that’s where karube and niragi meet up again. and maybe they bone. (karube’s a top, it’s my au i make the boning rules).
karube meets back up with the team for the last king of spades battle. he’s pissed about niragi trying to kill arisu and usagi (and sure, shooting chishiya was a bad move too, he supposes). miraculously he doesn’t end up dead, but pretty close to it. he refuses the deal to stay in the borderlands. he and niragi meet again in the hospital when niragi’s a little more mobile and not stuck in bed, they both think the other is kind of a douche, but there’s still an attraction there. (cue karube/niragi as the fourth couple in my chishiya/oc, kuina/ann, arisu/usagi friend group. technically fifth but unfortunately hatter died so no aguni/danma).

Lucifer:
Lucifer was one of the first people Icarus meet in after waking up in the castle and learning of his halfdemon status and why he was summoned. Tho it took Icarus some warming up, he would seek out Lucifer for Advice when troubled. Icarus trusts the eldest brother with his worries and fears alot and let him take care of him the first time he broke down since arriving in the Devildom.
Classical Music - Both love it & Icarus asked Lucifer for piano lessons a month into his stay. It made them closer and open up to eachother more Taking care of the other - both of them are workaholics, exhausting themself to the point of passing of. So they take care of the other while working or if the other passed out. It made eachother trust the other in their most vulnerable state.
Mammon:
Even tho he was announced Icarus' Guardian they hated eachother at first. Icarus didn't like or wanted to deal with mammon's whiplash personality and mammon didn't like Icarus goody-to-shoes nature. But after making the pact and mammon having to protect Icarus from a nightmare that made him lose control of his magic while Lucifer was out they grew closer.
Gambling - tho they like different types of gambling, Icarus loving gacha gambling while mammon preferred casino gambling they understood the love of the concept for it. Sometimes Icarus accompanies Mammon in a Casino, using is fare altering to help the greedy demon win quite a big just so he can ask him for a booster pack in his game. Nobody said Icarus is always smiling just to look approachable. That smile hides quite a bit of mischief~ Protecting others - both of them have a protective nature hating to see loved ones hurt. Since becoming best friends they protect and support eachother. Unaware they used their powers of the benefit of the other secretly.
Levi:
Being a child born and raised in harbor cities and surrounded by fishermen and sailor wisdom/history Icarus was vary. He heard tales of sea monsters and tho he was fascinated by them he didn't want to get on the bad side of one. And Levi was known as the king of sea monsters so easy to say Icarus was a bit scared of him.
Levi on the other hand was intrigued. He heard from Lucifer talking on the phone with Barbatos late at night that Icarus was into Anime and Manga as well was novels and webtoons. He was first thinking that Icarus was just a poser until he heard on another night Icarus ramble about a webtoons to Mammon which actually asked questions to keep the other talking. Safe to say after that Levi tried his best to befriend the scared halfdemon. After the TSL battle and Icarus literally getting a panic attack from seeing Levi furious from Envy their friendship took a tool, making Levi decide to form a pact to show Icarus that he won't ever scare them again. Since then they because closer and eventually fell in love
Anime/Manga/Games/Webtoons - both are major Otakus. They often stay up together watchin, reading or playing together or individually. They enjoy the presence of the other. And thanks to both being tailed demons the even still can get a minimal of body contact, which Icarus craves Ocean/water relation - both love/need the ocean. Icarus being not only born and raised near the Ostsee but also needing salt water for his skin condition hates being to far from the ocean and Levi, being a sea serpent demon, can understand the yearning for water. So often they hang around Levi's room or make a trip to the devildoms Navi headquarters to feel closer to the ocean Pet snakes - Levi gifted Icarus a ghost devildoms ball python as Icarus loves snakes! And not only being a serpent himself but also have had a pet snake he understands and bonds over it with Icarus.
Satan:
Satan and Icarus saw eachother and something clicked in them. They knew at the same time the other was like them. Anger issues, cat and book loving, hate being compared to an older sibling and hidi g their true emotions. They knew the other did the same things. So on Icarus'first day in HOL Satan and him talked and became close. It was an added bonus that Icarus brought a cat with him which made Satan estatic.
Anger - both have a hard time controlling their own form of it. So whenever they feel like exploding they go to the other and take them for either a reading/cuddling Lavendel session, a vent session or a walk to the nearest café/library. They help eachother calm down. Mystery Book+Cats - both love a good mystery Book, especially murder mystery or Sherlock Holmes and they are both cat persons. When Icarus introduced Satan zu Lavendel, Icarus calico kitten, he was over the moon and made a special color for the collar trained kitten so she can get in all rooms without someone needing to open the door for her.
Asmo:
At first Icarus was wierded out by him and all the sexual innuendos made him uncomfortable as Icarus is on both the Ace as well as Aro spectrum and still sex repulsed. But as soon as he told Asmo to stop it was he felt creeped out and scared, Asmo understood and stopped. After that he started to give Icarus tips rather on things for his dermititis spots. After a few weeks Icarus started to allow asmo in his Personal bubble. Then the retreat happened and they started to get really close.
Self care - even tho Icarus doesn't appear like it he does love self and especially skin care something asmo can agree on with the half demon. The two of them do at home spa days at least twice a week as well as go out to one every once in a while Gossip - yes Icarus loves gossiping and hearing the latest rumors. He finds it interesting as he was usually the subject of nasty rumors in his school life. And asmo is not one to say no to Icarus.
Beel:
When they meet, both where unsure of the other. Icarus appeared like a small helpless bat or rabbit to Beel while Beel appeared like a giant grizzly to Icarus. The first few weeks they kinda tip toed around each other, neither wanting to do the first step for very different reasons. But after the dream encounter Icarus make a bento box and visited one of beels fangol trainings. The famished demon happily munched while finally talking to the smaller. That was the beginning of a friendship as well as a small crush..
Food - both beels as well as Icarus first love is food. Icarus loves cooking and trying out new recipes and beel loves being his tester. Hiking - Icarus invites beel often to hikes which he gladly agrees to. Tho most of the time Icarus flys next to beel to keep up. Being short is sometimes a blessing and a curse..
Belphie:
They met by accident in Belphegores dreamscape. After talking abit and agreeing to help out eachother, they met often in one of their dreams, sometimes just to talk. Quickly they became friends, with Icarus developing a crush on the cow demon.
After lesson 16 all they had build up was gone. Icarus became extremely afraid of belphie. Flinching when he moved his hand up too high, getting panic attacks when he saw belphie shift into his demon form and running to either Lucifer, Mammon or Levi when Belphie tried talking to him. So belphie tried careful steps are going back to their origins. That ways he slowly got the trust, and eventually the love too, back that he destroyed
Physical touch - tho Icarus was scared fir quite a while of being touched by belphie he now hates not touching him when he is close. May it be tail holding, cuddling, napping together or even more intimate things, Icarus won't turn anything down as long as he can touch one of his lovers and boyfriend's Stars - belphie loves stars and everything about them as we know, so it's a given that he likes Icarus just for being a demon related to the stars in the sky. They bond other them and often belphie helps Icarus create the beauty of his skys Being the youngest - both Icarus and belphie are the babies of their respective families. They know how to work they brothers to get what they want and often they use it to their advantage. Nobody said they were innocent of abusing that fact
Diavolo:
Being one of the first to meet Icarus he meet Icarus at his truest form, an anxious unsure young being which is scared of dissapointing. And being a very big man with unusual bright red hair and glowing golden eyes he scared the poor confused and still dazed boy to the point of crying and reciting bibel verses he didnt even knew he somehow had stored in his subconscious. Now it took a few days but eventually diavolo got icarus to let him get to know the half demon. And after diavolo stealing the young being and going to the amusement park and being the big brother icarus lost long ago diavolo got icarus to let him in his heart and turn into a place of comfort.
planing events - diavolo loving the chaos and excitement and icarus loving to let his creativity run wild they are a force to reckon with ones they started planing an event. barbatos even gets slightly stressed when ever he sees Icarus running around his pastel lilac notebook especially when it is in direction of where the prince is.. Annoying and showing lucifer their affection - both oblivious hold loads of affection of alot of ppl, but especially the avatar of pride even if it is for diffrent reasons and styles of showing that love. so while diavolo is very grand and open about his affection, the other is more calm and prefers to do little things to sweeten Lucifers days. they often talk about this over tea meetings.
Barbatos:
Just like Diavolo Barbatos was one of the first to see Icarus true self. But he was also the first to be allowed close to Icarus. While the young being was scared of the prince, he was the one the young one hid behind while shaking before diavolo and lucifer, he learned of the boys interests, likes, dislikes and all the little things he did. He was also the first to recieve a tiny folded star which icarus explained was his way of showing the gifted to that he feels comftable and trusts them. I called them his friendship stars. the more one had, the bigger his trust. The two started to bound thanks to icarus refusing to leave Barbatos side, one of his excuses where being new to the palace and his powers
The struggle of knowing the past, presents and future - Both of the bat like demons are connected to the flow of time and know the struggle and feeling of isolation of knowing what will and what could happen even if they had diffrent way of knowing them. Barbatos often comforts Icarus when he starts to be overwhelmed of feels too lonely thanks to his ability to alter fate and see what happens/happend reminding him that he will always have barbatos as his older brother and that he knows the feeling. Tea - Icarus, being raised in Germany and knowing tea as something to enjoy and to heal, often enjoys shopping, preparing, learning, testing as well as enjoying tea with barbatos which was not only happy but also relieved when he learned icarus prefered drink was tea instead of coffee or soda and similar drinks. The two time demons often meet outside rad and go to tea shops as well as events surounding the dried plants
Simeon:
Whem Icarus meet Simeon he disliked the angel for multiple reasons. For one his mother was a christian and forced the religion on him while he grew up making him hate any and all things related taboo topics, he was still angry against all angels for ignoring his prayers of help or atleast protection and lastly he heard the story of him turning against his ancestor Lilith and her brothers even tho Simeon adressed them as his siblings. Meanwhile Simeon just tried his best to be a good exchange student and tried to atleast get Icarus to tolerate him. In the end he only got Icarus high walls thanks to a certain younger angel which melted the cautious half demons heart instantly.
writing/drawing - both the angel as well as the young demon has a passion for writing, even if Icarus creative strong suit is drawing, they often proof read and advice eachother. Simeon, being a professional writer with a hit series, often is taking on the role of mentor for icarus when it comes to writing. meanwhiles icarus started to be Simeons cover artist. the two of them are still confused as to how alot of people didnt get that icarus was the artist when is tag has his name in it
Luke:
Luke meet the half demon in his first month while he still lived in the castle to recover from the summoning gone wrong. He at first thought Icarus was a full lesser demon. But Barbatos quickly corrected him and explained that if anything Icarus was only half minor sloth demon and half human with apparently angel ancestry. That info chanced the young angels whole view on the other. Being a little sunshine and appearing like a child Icarus instantly went into older sibling mode and took Luke under his wing. Safe to say, no one dared to mess with luke as soon as Icarus started attending, making the two be very close and truly feel like siblings
Baking - While Icarus is truly bad at it, he still enjoys the process. Luke decided to help his newest familiy member and taught him to bake. for that Icarus taught him human reciepes he knew well. which are mostly asian and german reciepes. Being pick on for their appearance - Both being quite short standing at highest 5'2 and looking rather soft they both had to deal with being made fun about it. the diffrence between is that while luke is all barks no bite, Icarus is one warning bark before he roars and bites hard. dont mess with a lions pride, especially the cub :)
Solomon:
Being the only other human Icarus was drawn to him like a moth to flame. He disliked it that Solomon shared basically no real information about himself, liking to know atleast one or two preferences of people he knew, but he learned to accept it. The other oart of solomon he more then disliked was being treated like an experiment or lab rat which solomon treated him like. He knew that he was something that may be a one in a lifetime mix of races but he still could stand the behavior solomon showed him. After lashing out and screaming at solomon that he was still a person and not one of his experiments solomon stopped and apologized. after a bit the two decided to restart and became close friends
Magic - Icarus being new to the world of magic was naturally worryingly curious about it as he was now a being of magic himself. Solomon decided to make it his mission to help Icarus understand his magic and master it. Often tho Icarus is Solomons test subject for his rechearche which is also the reason Icarus now his notly a winged but also a tailed demon. tho icarus cant make his tail disappeared having to hide it or lie that it is a every high tech fashion choice when he is in the human world.

bit of a weird one, but you’re an expert, so i hope it’s okay! what do you think are the key parts of good jli characterization ?
(always love all your thoughtful posts!)
its totally okay I love rambling about this shit
this is kind of a broad topic I’ve thought about A LOT so I’m probably missing something important I’m going to remember tonight while I’m trying to go to sleep
one of the things that makes JLI characterization of them as a team feel ‘right’ to me is understanding their place in the broader DCU. I’ve talked about this before, but at various points, we get a very ‘us vs them’ dynamic between the JLIs and other ‘proper’ superheroes; they’re very insular, and they don’t tend to get along with other heroes; a lot of it tends to go back to active anger towards the JLIs for ‘embarrassing’ the name of the league by not taking themselves seriously. Most of the times when the JLI as a team interacts with other heroes, they either get into a fight (Jurgens JLA), the other heroes run away screaming (JLI), or they get treated with some mix of disdain and pity (most comics post-ted dying). So takes where random JLIs buddy around with random other DC characters tend to fall really flat to me unless that individual case has been earned (and usually it hasn’t). The ways in which they’re outsiders are important and meaningful imo.
It’s also important that people . . . understand the jokes? I think people REALLY underestimate how much JLI plays with your expectations, and it leads to a lot of times where I see people who view JLI characters not as who they ARE, but as who the set-up tells you they are before the punchline proves that wrong. And while the subversion often is things like having the no-nonsense leaders tell a joke, there’s also a lot of important character work that comes out of subverting those expectations. I think especially with Blue & Gold, people overlook that having the dumb jock be the voice of reason to the genius visionary is a better set up for jokes and a more nuanced character dynamic than ‘booster dumb ted smart’ like we tend to get lately. And with characters like Dmitri, there’s actually a lot of value in having a character who represents “America’s enemy” in the Cold War era be such a kind and likeable person. There’s SO many examples of this (just to name a fee minor ones: Fires hot but can’t get laid! the married couple living in the suburbs are terrible at domesticity! they leave the military dude at home when they go fight the soldiers on Apokolips!), and imo, you can tell when someone has taken JLI characterization at face value and when they’re someone who understands that the original books characterization tends to zig when it tells you it’s going to zag.
Also they should be mean to each other. Like they’re a textual found family and it’s clear that the core group who has stuck together has done so out of genuine love and connection, but they also fight all the time and are largely garbage people. MY garbage people, but garbage people all the same.

InFAMOUS Headcanons: Sweet and Spicy
Hey guys! Had another headcanon thing I thought I'd share.
Favorite flavors, we all have them. Some of us like sweet, others savory. Dry, bitter, sour, spicy, umami, you name it.
Sometimes I wonder about the silly little things about the characters I love. The mundane pieces of lore that the games and comics never really indulge in. The little quirks that make characters feel all the more human. One of these things is food preference. It's a goofy thing to wonder, but hey, it's all in good fun.
And then I found a little nugget of lore and ran with it.
So, let's dive in and see what Cole's favorite flavors are and why one of them might have made things a little bit... Interesting for the Demon of Empire City.
Tumblr media
This little ramble is based on some little nuggets of lore from the InFAMOUS 2 Press Kit, specifically, this picture here.
Tumblr media
Make note of the receipt. Since this came out of "Cole's wallet", we can safely assume that this probably came from a night where he and Zeke grabbed a bite to eat and decided seafood was what sounded good. Or maybe Cole was feeling particularly hungry that day. Regardless of who ate what, aside from the oysters and the ice-cream, both the grey mullet and the Chinese crab were spicy. Either way, it gave me ideas.
Here's a link to the press kit if you want to see all the goodies for yourself.
So it seems like this receipt strongly hints that at least Cole has a fondness for spicy foods and a liking for seafood, both make sense. Cole's home city of Empire City probably gets a lot of Neptune's bounty from either local fisheries or from imports as Empire City plays the same economical role in InFAMOUS's United States as New York City does for the real U.S.A, so seafood was always a good bet for a decent meal for the courier and his best friend. He and Zeke also visited New Marais four years prior to the first InFAMOUS, so it could be where his taste for spice was nurtured, as New Marais is InFAMOUS's New Orleans and it would stand to reason that Cajun spice is just as much of a staple in New Marais as it is in it's real world counterpart. A love for spicy foods would also come in handy for Cole in his courier days as the heat from the spice could probably give him a good warm-up should that day's weather be particularly crappy or a good "pick-me-up" should he start feeling tired on the clock.
This love of spice probably didn't stop after his powers were awakened, if anything, I think his love for spicy things would work in his favor during the quarantine of Empire City.
Traditionally, spicy spices weren't just a flavor boosters and maskers, they were also used as preservatives as well as herbal medicines. Am I saying Cole would know what spices would be good for what? No. But his enjoyment of spicy foods would probably make whatever food that he, Trish and Zeke could get their hands on at least more palatable and probably helped with allowing foods to be kept a little bit longer. Though the spices would probably have to be rationed a bit because the grocery stores aren't really stocking anything and the relief-aids don't really come with ground-up coriander or cayenne pepper in it.
We've covered the spice, but what about the sweet?
Now some may say that if the receipt was from a meal shared with friends, then the most likely one who ordered the ice-cream was Zeke. Though I'd argue that perhaps it was Cole who wanted the sweet treat.
Why?
The answer is simple, Cole's an athlete.
Now I know this sounds absolutely silly, but when you really think about it, it makes sense that Cole would be the one with the sweet tooth.
As many people know, sugar is a preferred energy source for the body, it's quickly processed, giving a good boost of energy for the body as well as sugars being literal brain food. Seeing as the brain is a very calorically expensive organ to maintain. Many also know that because of the energy boosts that foods high in sugars can produce makes them ideal for quick snacks on if you're on the move or just needed a nice pick-me-up.
Seeing as Cole is a skilled free-runner and used to be a bike messenger, he probably never left his home without a quick pop-in-the-mouth snack he could munch on when he had a moment to rest, most likely trail-mixes with a heathy mix of nuts, dried fruit and candy.
These quick snacks were basically like keeping a jerry can full of gas in the car. Should the tank start to run low and you're not sure when you'll see the next gas station, you use the gas in the jerry can to top off the tank just enough to hold it off until you can get to the station and properly refuel.
The dopamine boost was nice too, being hangry is a thing and being able to stave off the hanger made Cole's job just a little more bearable.
Things get interesting when Cole's powers awaken.
You see, even though Cole has become super-human, he is still very much a human. A biological being who's organic machinery still needs to be maintained and fueled. The Electric Man still needs to eat, drink, sleep, all the things that go along with being human.
Being a living battery may have it's obvious perks and draw-backs, I think it would also have some more... Mundane consequence that wouldn't really fit in a game or a comic. The Demon of Empire City is still running around, burning calories as usual, but now something else is eating into his fuel, his powers.
While yes, his powers are fuel by the electricity he absorbs and stores in his body as well as Ray Field Radiation, I think it wouldn't be too much of a stretch that his abilities also tax the body's energy stores as well. With his nerves acting as the wires which the electrical charge runs through. You also have the fact that Cole's body is still going through the typical wear and tear of just being alive and constantly running around on top of getting into scraps ranging from shoot out fights from purity obsessed jackasses masquerading as "protectors" to fending off mutated insectoid mole monsters and crazed icemen.
Yes, his electric drain abilities do heal his wounds rapidly, but healing still need the raw material and energy to do so and those resources don't just pop up out of thin air. He has to replenish these stores. So, man's gotta eat and boy howdy does all that fighting work up an apatite.
It also makes the Demon's sweet tooth itch.
Sugar is energy as stated before and firing off electricity drains not only his electric stores, but his biological fuel stores as well and seeing as Cole is constantly on the move, he needs his energy more than ever. Draining random electric things may stave off the energy crash, but sooner or later, he'll have to stop to eat or run the risk of a major crash.
As for why rocky road? I don't know, maybe that's his favorite flavor of ice-cream. Also, seeing as most likely New Marais is both HOT and HUMID as all get out, a nice bowl of ice-cream doubles up as something to cool his body. Electricity produces a lot of heat after all and all the humidity plus sweating makes for a sparky accident waiting to happen.
-----
That turned out to be a lot longer than I expected, but I hope you all liked none-the-less!

I just wanna say I really love how you analyses booster gold he's actually my favorite dc character now and I really hope in his new show he's not boiled down as "cocky and prick blonde dude" he's really an interesting character to me
Oh thank you! Im always glad when people actually like my insane ramblings about fictional characters lol. Im so passionate abt these dumb superheroes.
I really am trying not to think much abt the show right now bc i get nervous 😅 about portrayals of booster and my favs in general. But i hope so too! I think theres a balance between being kinda a cocky queen and a genuine person that for some reason is hard for professional writers to get into. 🤔 like we can have both theres such thing as nuance esp with booster.
