How to control Anger?
Tumblr media
Anger management is a term used to describe the skills you need to recognize when you or someone else is angry and then take appropriate action to deal with the situation in a positive way. Anger management includes a range of skills that can help you recognize signs of anger and manage triggers in a positive way.    Show Source Texts
On the other hand, anger management strategies can be helpful and can help you find healthy ways to express your feelings. Anger management is not about internalizing or suppressing anger, but about identifying triggers and signs of anger and finding other more appropriate ways to express our feelings. If you first try to identify and then manage your anger, it won't have such a detrimental effect on your relationships, body, mind, and emotions. Learning how to deal with anger through anger management techniques can help you develop the anger management skills you need to build healthy relationships.
Working with a psychologist can help understand your anger, identify potential triggers, and develop ways to manage your emotions and express them in healthy ways. Because uncontrolled anger often leads to aggressive behavior, anger management uses a variety of techniques to help people process thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in healthier and more productive ways. The following exercises and activities will help you identify, manage, and express your or your client's anger in a more positive way. Anger management can teach you how to control your anger by recognizing symptoms such as a racing heart, clenching your teeth, or the urge to scream or throw things.
Before anger escalates, there are certain strategies you can use to control your anger. Short-term strategies such as taking a deep breath, visualizing a quiet place, and walking away can help you control your anger in the heat of the moment. It is generally not possible to avoid all anger-producing people and environments, but you can learn to control your reactions and respond in a socially acceptable way. Anger control is important to help you avoid saying or doing things you might regret.

I received a question on anger from one of my viewers.
“I express my frustration directly to people around me and they even end up fretting about appeasing me. But because I feel bad about it, I tell them that they don't need to do that.
I watched your video about anger. I thought I understood the logic, but I did it again. In the moment, I am dominated by anger and I let out my anger in my face and attitude, sometimes quietly, sometimes violently.
This has been my challenge so far. I haven’t been able to give them peace of mind. What can I do about it? I would appreciate it if you could help me.”
In this video, I answer this question from a Buddhist perspective.

one of the most important things terry pratchett has taught me is that it's okay to be angry. no one has ever said that to me before. he taught me that anger was an engine. that you can use that anger. that it goes hand in hand with love. he taught me to never underestimate my anger, because it's one of my strongest points. he taught me genuine anger was one of the world’s great creative forces. he taught me i shouldn't be fighting my anger, but what caused it. he himself said rage underlines everything he wrote. i never heard anger talked about so openly like that before and it's freeing, i suppose, to realize you are truly, truly not alone in your rage at the world. you never were.

Okay so that video was…wow
There was no sound, so we still do not have the full story. So we are still speculating about what happened for sure, but I gotta say…not looking great for Phil.
And the reason it doesn’t look good, is the body language. Not just Jack’s body language, who looked very calm by the way. But the body language of everyone else in that room.
Nobody was reacting to their conversation at all, which kind of implies that it wasn’t super heated. It certainly wasn’t a yelling match. If they were yelling at each other, physical violence would have made sense to follow (still been bad), and everyone else would have been circling trying to calm them and separate them before it got to that.
But nobody reacted to whatever they were discussing until Phil attacked Jack.
Maybe Jack insulted him, called him a name or whatever, but that doesn’t call for physical violence. If he called him a name it would not warrant violence in their work place.
Jack didn’t look mad at all. He looked like he was just explaining what he did or why he did it. Again speculation but nothing about his demeanor screams fight mode.
I never doubted who was really at fault but damn. This solidifies it for me.

Really fucked up that two ppl can care about each other and make their best efforts to communicate and still end up hurting each other so badly they cannot stand to be in the same room.
#my stuff#i feel soooo bad talking to my therapist about the same topics over multiple weeks#like i feel like they're sooo sick of it like damn can this bitch get Over It alreadyyyy#hi yes actually can we talk about the near catastrophic sense of betrayal and loss that has haunted my soul for over a month?#can we talk about how I overcompensate for other's possible feelings and emotions to desperately mask my terror at feeling out of control#can we talk about how even when I know ppl acted with logical reasons necessary for their situation it still hurt me?#and that this pain fills me up with so much anger and frustration that I'm powerless to put anywhere that won't hurt someone#so it just cooks me inside and makes me grind my teeth constantly for weeks#im so angry i did not deserve to be treated like this it's not fair and I have no capacity to fix it or control when it feels better#i just have to survive and wait until i forget about it and hope they don't decide to reach out and fuck it all up#cause i can see that happening#i'll finally be free of thinking about them and generally going about my day unbothered and they'll ask to get coffee or something#and I have no idea what I should do in that scenario. because I don't think we can be friends.#and you have not treated me with the compassion and warmth I treated you#i would want to say mean things. hurtful things. I would want to bite back for once.#and that's not me. that's not who I want to be.#i don't wanna see you. go away. don't talk to me if you're not going to make the pain go away.
