obviously this isnt about people headcanoning mob as having DID/OSDD because god knows representation for neurodivergencies that arent anxiety, depression, or the movie version of ptsd are lacking in media and being able to project aspects of yourself that you see in characters is really fun (god knows i love ocd blasting characters i relate to) but people treating mob and shigeo as two totally separate characters with two separate personalities is sorta starting to feel like it's missing the entire point of the confession arc.
like, "mob" is not the version of mob who does good things and "shigeo" is not the version of him who does scary evil things and hates everyone mob loves for no reason. theyre the same person. the conversation between them in the confession arc isnt a literal conversation taking place, it's a representations of his two desires which he has convinced himself are irreconcilable. "mob" represents his desire to keep his relationships with his loved ones- which he has convinced himself comes at the cost of repressing every aspect of his true self- and "shigeo" represents his desire to live freely and express himself as he wishes- which he has convinced himself means pushing everyone but tsubomi away before they reject him because he is absolutely certain that she is the only person in the world who will accept and love him for who he truly is. the friends he fights- teru, the body improvement club, reigen- are all people he's convinced only like the fake him and would hate the real him, and now they're trying to get in the way of the only thing he can even remember wanting because of how long he's squashed down and hidden away his own desires for other people's convenience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if your friends, if the people you trusted, said this to you the first time you were exercising your own free will for the first time in years, wouldnt you snap a little too?

Body Swap - Ritsu
First Comic (the one you're reading now is the 6th! Search #mp100 body swap on my blog to find the rest)
Summarized ID: Ritsu comes into Spirits and Such and demands that Mob go to school. However, he's speaking to Reigen in Mob's body. Dimple tells him this, and Ritsu does not believe that a body swap has occurred. In order to prove that Mob is actually the one in Reigen's body, Mob tells numerous stories of Ritsu from when he was a child. Ritsu gets embarrassed, believes him, then leaves.
FULL ID UNDER CUT
Keep in mind that Reigen looks like Mob and Mob looks like Reigen in this comic. They have swapped bodies.
Ritsu pants, having just ran into Spirits and Such. "Shige... Hey..."
He grabs Reigen's wrist and pulls him. "We are NOT missing class- we're already... 30 minutes late! oh, crap-"
Reigen pulls his wrist from Ritsu's grasp. "Whoa, I'm not going ANYWHERE!" underneath his speechbubble is the subtext: "and don't grab people like that, it's rude!"
"WHY NOT!?" Ritsu yells back at him.
"Ritsu..." Mob says.
Ritsu gets in his face. "Don't say anything! I get that he hands out here after school but don't make him start skipping class!"
A close up of Ritsu's face as he yells: "NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE STREET SIGN CLIMBER!"
Mob looks confused with a big "?" over his head. Text above his head reads "the street sign climber...?"
Mob looks over at Reigen. "Master... did you not tell Ritsu?" Ritsu follows his gaze and thinks to himself: "master?"
Reigen responds, frantically, "Why would I!? I didn't want to freak him out! I was still trying to figure out what was going on! How do I explain something like this anyway!?"
"Explain what?" Ritsu asks.
"That shigeo and reigen have swapped bodies." Dimple replies.
Ritsu looks at Dimple with a mix of confusion and disgust. He squints at him, squints harder, trying to make sense of what he just said, and then looks at him disbelievingly, lips pursed. Finally, he faces Dimple fully and asks bluntly: "What?"
Mob scratches the back of his neck. "Uhh... well, I look like master and master looks like me...."
"meaning SHigeo looks like Reigen and Reigen looks like Shigeo." Dimple explains.
"Right." Mob says. He points to himself, smiling. "So I'm shigeo, your brother."
Reigen is next to him, with a slightly pissed off expression. "And I'm Reigen Arataka. NOT your brother."
Ritsu looks done and annoyed at them. He puts his face in his hands and mutters: "This is stupid. What..."
He makes a 'come here' motion to Reigen. "We're going to school."
"Ritsu! I'm not going! Ugh- didn't you hear a word of what was just said!?" Reigen shouts back.
"Yeah, and it was dumb, so c'mon."
Mob leans in and says: "Please let him go. I don't want Master going to school as me."
Dimple says "Ritsu, come on, man. you seriously can't tell that your 'brother' is acting differently?"
Ritsu responds. "Well, yeah, but..."
Reigen thinks for a moment, hand on his chin, before going "I got it!" He explains: "Hey, mob, you know those movies where there's a clone or something and in order to tell which ones the real one, they have to say something only the real one would know?" In a thought bubble, an image of a person pointing a gun at two identical people is shown.
"Mm... I dunno, maybe?" Mob responds. Reigen huffs. "Whatever. Just say something only you would know."
Mob thinks, putting his finger to his chin. "Something only I would know about Ritsu... uh... Ritsu's favourite colour is green and he really likes tofu." Next to Mob appears a smattering of dark green and a picture of tofu.
Reigen scolds him. "Mob, anybody could know that! pick something more personal!"
"Oh, oh... hmmm...." Mob thinks again.
"One time, when we were kids, ritsu and I watched this movie about a boy who lived in the forest... when we went to the park after, ritsu tried to catch a squirrel and hit his head."
Illustrated below the text box is a young ritsu and mob watching TV. On the TV is a man with wild hair, holding an animal in his hand. Ritsu is paying attention, Mob is playing with something in his hands. Then we see an image of Ritsu leaping towards a squirrel, only to slam face first into a tree trunk.
"And, oh! when we were 10, mom wouldn't buy you a toy so you flipped her off when she wasn't looking... hmm... you were really red when you got caught, though. I think you started crying."
Illustrated below the text box is a young ritsu and mob. Ritsu is flipping off his mother, with his mother looking at her shopping list and not seeing. Mob is nervously looking at Ritsu. Their mother turns around and gasps, seeing Ritsu. Ritsu's face is engulfed in an embarrassed blush. Mob looks up at his mother nervously.
"And he always carries spoons with him, I don't know why though... maybe for desssert?"
Ritsu bursts the thought bubble, blushing. "OKAY THAT'S ENOUGH. Shige, did you tell him all that?"
Reigen crosses his arms. "I'm NOT your brother. I'm Reigen. Can't you just believe that now?"
Dimple smirks. "Do you seriously carry spoons on you, little ritsu?"
Ritsu blushes and uses his powers to push some spoons he has in his back pocket down. "No."
Ritsu sighs. "Alright, fine. Maybe I believe you... I just... don't like it."
Reigen begins to take off his school uniform pants, that are over his pajama pants. "Us neither." Mob looks at Ritsu, frowning. "You should go to school, ritsu. I'm sorry that all of this made you late."
Ritsu smiles, strained, at Mob. 'It's not big deal, uh..."
A panel of Mob, but it's Reigen's face. Reigen's face is drawn in the shows style and he is smiling slightly.
Ritsu only becomes more strained at this. He finishes his sentence: "brother." There are stress lines on his face and the background is dark.
He turns his back to them, waving. "I'll just make up an excuse as to why you're late, okay?"
"Sorry for the trouble." Mob says.
"WAIT!" Reigen shouts. Ritsu startles. "You don't maybe know how to fix this, do you?"
"No... is it a curse or something?" Ritsu asks. Reigen sighs and sits down on a seat, his cheek in his hand and his elbow resting on his knee. "Apparently not... damn it." He says.
"Well... good luck." Ritsu says. "Call me if you need any help, okay? and let me know when you're back in your body, shige." He looks at Reigen as he says this.
Reigen jabs a thumb in Mob's direction. "Don't look at me... I'm Reigen. THAT'S 'shige'. I've told you like five times already!"
Mob raises Reigen's flip phone, now charging. He smiles slightly. "Thanks, Ritsy. I'll call you as soon as Master's phone is charged."
Ritsu looks at Mob, sweating. "Ah. right." Mob is smiling at him.
It's silent for a panel.
Ritsu leaves. "Well, bye!" Mob's smile only drops a little bit.

Cameras | Reigen Arataka x fem!model!Reader
Tumblr media
plot. The last thing you expected when you entered the office of Reigen Arataka, was to be head over heels for him. Reigen can't seem to believe it himself when Dimple points out that the beautiful model who came in his office for help is, in fact, flirting her way towards him. It's your first time chasing a man and not the other way around, and it's so much fun.
fandom. mob psycho 100
word count. 2.2k
tags. fem!reader, reader is a model, flirting, seducing, awkwardness, suggestive tones, implied sexual reference, oblivious Reigen Arataka, photoshoots, smoking, wingman Dimple.
part. 1/2
An elegant smile softly spread across your face, your hands touching your soft hair with delicacy, your legs crossed under the wooden desk. And, hard to ignore, your foot moving slowly in a circling motion. Your classy composure hides your real emotions so well, you're a woman of style. But, in reality, you're completely losing it.
Shit, he's handsome.
The blond man sitting in front of you is explaining his parcels and exorcism plans as he moves his hands left and right. He looks serious, professional, and focused. His name is Reigen Arataka, or The Greatest Psychic of the 21st Century. You didn't know anything about him until twenty minutes earlier, when you entered his office.
You work as a photo model in a well known modeling agency in Seasoning City. You recently started catwalks, but you're mainly featured on local fashion magazines covers and billboard signs across the city. Your career is going well, except for this feeling that you just can't shake off. In the last few months, every time you pose for a picture you feel a haunting presence weighing on your shoulders. It's like a cold, gloomy breeze. It didn't stop you from getting your work done, but it was more energy consuming than it should be. You didn't believe in ghosts, to be clear. But your friends suggested you call a psychic, and so you did. You chose the cheapest in town, just to give it a try. But nothing could have prepared you for this situation.
«So, considering the context, I think the best exorcism plan is the second in my list, miss»
You snap back to reality and quickly realize that you didn't listen to a single word he said. Too busy staring at the smooth gestures of his hands. You have to play it cool.
«How about you come with me to my next shooting? I have to get there in 30 minutes. Maybe you can take care of the problem on the spot. I'll be glad to pose for you if it can help, Reigen-san» you smile, resting your chin on your open palm.
It's weird. Usually men were the ones who chased you, and fell for you right on the spot. This is your first time being head over heels for a man, and at first sight too. You can't exactly pin point what it is that makes you twirl your hair around your index, and smile so intently. Maybe his ginger hair, or the way he articulates words. Or his grey suit and eccentric pink tie, and charismatic smile.
The man exudes sex. In sort of a pathetic, sketchy way.
«Fine by me» Reigen replies.
You clap your hands together and spark him a shiny smile «Great! Let's go then!»
As you go ahead to bring your car in front of the building, Reigen closes the office. Mob is at school and no clients are expected to come for the next few hours.
The conman trots down the stairs quickly so that he can go wait for you outside the building. But he feels a presence floating behind him.
«Oi, Reigen»
Reigen turns around and grumbles as his gaze meets a familiar green cloud.
«What, Dimple»
«That lady is most certainly hitting on you»
Reigen almost trips down the stairs. He quickly recollects himself as he stops in the middle of the stairwell.
«That's not true»
«Pff» the spirit spits «it's so obvious»
Reigen descends the stairs again, the sound of his shoes stomping on the floor booming in the echoey building.
«It's not obvious because she's not hitting on me! You're just saying it to make fun of me»
The green spirit floats backwards, in front of Reigen's face. He looks dead serious.
«Look man, I would never use such a poor excuse for a joke. I mean, a knockout of a model hitting on you? That would be too unrealistic!»
Reigen rolls his eyes and just keeps going, trying to ignore Dimple.
The latter agitates a little green arm in front of his face «Hellooo? She was literally eating you up with her preying eyes! Basically giggling and kicking her feet like a schoolgirl! And what about the "I'll be glad to pose for you~"»
Dimple channeled his most feminine, high-pitched voice to say that. Green little hands intertwined, eyes glittering and lashes fluttering. It pisses Reigen off.
«Miss (Y/N) is not hitting on me. And even if she were, obviously in a very parallel and distant world, I would never get my way with her. She's my client, and I'm a professional»
«Whatever you say dude...I warned you»
Dimple didn't pop out until later on, when you and Reigen get to your modeling agency. Everything is ready for today's photoshoot: lights, cameras, setting. As Reigen wanders around pretending to scan for spirits, you're approached by your publicist, Haru.
«Is he the male stripper we rented for Sakura's birthday?» she asks, pointing a finger towards Reigen.
«What? No! That's the psychic you suggested I call!» you exclaim.
«Oooh! Is he here to help you exorcise that spirit?»
«We don't know if there's a spirit yet, but he's here to help me out»
«And how are things going?»
«I want to sleep with him»
«(Y/N)!»
«I'm sorry, I can't help it!»
«Okay, I'll reschedule your Christmas jumpers shooting for next week. No big deal even if we don't do it today. Now go put some lingerie on»
«I love you so much, dearie»
In the end, there really was a spirit giving you a hard time during shootings. Or, to be specific, a curse. Dimple was able to detect it in no time, a cloud of gloomy, red smoke hovering over your shoulders. He absorbed it completely and you immediately felt the pressure on your back being released. Your pics came out perfect, flawless. You even put some extra work with that lingerie since you had a guest. And you did catch his brown eyes getting lost in the fabric of your garments, not without a sprinkle of guilt. It was a sight you yearned from men. Seeing them guilty for how mesmerized they are. But Reigen was dense. All afternoon you sent many hints that you, in fact, were flirting with him, but he didn't catch them. You still have time. Of course you have no idea that the one to get rid of the curse was Dimple, Reigen played it out as if he was the one doing all the magic. Dimple got accustomed to it.
«Thank you so much, Reigen-san» you smile, stunning as always. You already changed in your casual clothes, your body covered in a long, beige trenchcoat.
«No big deal, it was a small fish»
Dimple rolls his eyes behind Reigen's shoulder, but you can't see him. The sun is setting behind the building of your modeling agency. Reigen is smoking a cigarette, he asked you in advance if it bothers you, and you asked if you can join him. Reigen takes a quick glimpse at you. Even the way you smoke transpires elegance. His cheeks are lightly powdered in pink.
«I feel kinda bad though, I didn't pay you enough»
«No need to feel bad, I'm confident in my pricings»
«So you're gonna reject my drink invitation?»
Reigen chokes a puff of smoke. He throws you a quick glance and sees you smiling calmly, smoke slowly flowing out of your half-open lips. Dimple's words started floating in his own head. Was he right all along? Or you're just being nice? Do you really want to go out for a drink? Then, words just spill out on their own.
«Never said that»
You take a hit of your cigarette «Good, I'll lead the way»
There's something in your presence. So resolute, classy, confident. A different kind of confidence compared to Reigen. You always know how to behave, how to present yourself. It's hypnotic, magnetic even. Reigen can't help but be left speechless. He would lie to himself if he said that you weren't the prettiest woman he has ever seen. As you two walk towards your parked car, Reigen feels a familiar presence again.
«I told you, dude! She's all over you!» Dimple exlciams, waving his cloudy hands in front of Reigen.
«Shut the fuck up, she's not!»
You turn around «Did you say something?»
Reigen shakes his head vigorously, a bead of sweat running down his temple in embarrassment «N-nothing!»
The lounge bar you picked looks too expensive for Reigen's pockets. But you assured him that the drinks were on you, and ignored his insistence in paying. So now you and Reigen are sitting in front of each other, still dressed as you were this afternoon. He kinda feels out of place with his office suit on. But you fit the luxurious atmosphere so well. Your figure, your red dress, your make-up and smile. The way you talk, and laugh, and politely order two martinis. This place looks like it was made for you and you only. Talking with Reigen is an experience that you honestly expected very much. He's an interesting person, he's kind, funny, and smart. You didn't get the hots for him only for his looks. You understood the kind of person he was the moment he started listening to your problems this afternoon. He might look like the average japanese functional working citizen, but you saw right through him immediately.
And Reigen thinks the same of you. You're not only extremely attractive, confident and classy. You're cultured, intelligent, witty. He feels like talking to you is so easy, a feeling he didn't always get from others, or at least it wasn't often reciprocated. He wants to listen more of your words, of your mind. He's slowly getting hypnotized. You have a way with words, with gestures. The way you place your hand on your chin, or tuck hair behind your ear, is not casual. Everything you do is measure and balance. And the way you listen to his most complicated thoughts makes him want to tell you more, to stay a bit longer. He's enjoying himself for once in a while, laughing without thinking about anything else.
You put down your martini after taking a sip «By the way, Reigen, I think my photoshoot came out really, really well»
In a slow, sensual movement, you cross your legs under the table, your dress brushing against your bare skin with a velvet-like sound. You let one of your heels hang from the tip of your foot, then drop it down to the floor completely. Without any premeditation, you let your foot travel up Reigen's leg, first his ankle and then all the way up under the fabric of his pants.
«Maybe you should come to all my shootings from now on» you coo.
His shock is evident. Reigen locks his lips and holds his breath as he feels your foot stroking his leg under his pants. He wants to say something, but he can't.
Is she playing footsie with me?!
And then, for only God knows how many times, Dimple pops out again behind him, making Reigen jump on the spot.
«I fucking told you man!»
«I'm flirting with you, Reigen-san»
«Okay Dimple maybe you were right but what the fuck do I- say what?!»
You suppress a small giggle «I said that I'm flirting with you, Reigen. Since you didn't really seem to catch it»
Reigen is too stunned to speak «Oh!»
«I can stop though, if you're not interested in...more. Pursuing men so much is not my style. But I don't regret trying»
Your foot falls down from his leg and gets back to your heel, sliding it inside. You rest your chin in your hand, scanning Arataka's face for a reaction. He looks so embarrassed that it has you concerned. Did you go too far? To be completely honest, you liked messing with men. Making them look at you, leaving them speechless. But in a completely harmless way. Your last wish was to make Reigen uncomfortable in any way. You're about to say something, but you get interrupted.
«No, it's fine!» Reigen yelps, a nervous smile cracking on his face.
He mentally facepalms himself for sounding too excited, and too high pitched. But the reassuring smile you show him makes all his worries fade away. He doesn't feel judged, or under scrutiny.
«I-I mean» he resumes «I won't hold back if you're interested in...more»
Jesus he feels so stupid. But maybe you like stupid. It's written in the way you lean forward on your shared table, your hand reaching for his pink tie. You lightly pull it to encourage Reigen to come forward as well, sensually stroking it with two hands as you see his throat gulp out of nervousness.
«I'm glad to hear, Reigen. Otherwise I would have felt very lonely tonight, in my apartment»
«Good...»
Then, you let go of his tie and get up from your seat, and Reigen does the same. Mustering up some courage, Reigen extends his hand for you to take it. You happily oblige, placing yours in his palm. With a satisfied look on your face, you proceed to walk out of the lounge bar, hand in hand.
Without you noticing, Dimple appears in front of Reigen one last time.
«Can I come?» he asks.
«Fuck, no!» Reigen growls under his teeth.
«What did you say?» you ask.
«Nothing!»

I'm so sorry if i did this request late.. 💔 i was on a break BUT! Im still doing it anyway because I heart Idia Shroud..also this has abit of spoilers
Idia Shroud BF HCS
Gamer boy <3 | Angsty with Fluff
Gender neutral reader
Tumblr media
IDIA SHROUD is the type of boyfriend who'd treat you like you're fragile. It's not like he sees you as a weakling (well kind of since you dont have any magic powers), it's because of the fact that he doesn't want you to end up like his brother before. So expect this man to act like a nervous nagging mother. He'd definitely go "s-stop doing that, you're gonna get yourself killed!".
And it's worse when you're a reckless risk taker, his soul will literally fly to the heavens itself because of how you're always putting yourself in danger.
Definitely the type to spoil you with figurines and etc if you watch anime! Oh you want a hot scrunkly reigen arataka figurine? He's got you. He's willing to buy the most expensive one out there!
He's the type to get insecure when he sees another person flirting with you. Yes, he is your lover but that person still has the chance to snatch you away from him! He's not having it!!
He's not really into PDA since it makes him embarrassed. He would literally BURST if you kiss him in front of a person, though... He secretly likes it.
Couple cosplays... Is a yes for Idia Shroud!
The type of boyfriend who suddenly asks you a random question at 3 am
"why do you love me"
"idia shroud, we have school in the morning."
"... why are you avoiding the question huh?! "
Yes he's cringe during the relationship. I headcannon that he would literally blurt out lines from a romance anime because he doesnt know how to flirt. And yes, you know the anime. But it's cute anyway so who cares?
Expect that Ortho shroud will always come looking for you. Ortho would be the type to embarrass his brother, especially in public.
"my brother missed you!"
"wha-?! I didnt!"
Over all, Idia shroud is somewhat boyfriend material and you cannot tell me otherwise.

the chemistry in my brain is altered in unspeakable ways whenever i think about Sans.
JUST WHO EXACTLY IS THIS GUY
its so easy, almost too easy, not to take him seriously and its exactly why his character can often be, well, i wouldn't say overlooked, this guy's pretty popular, but his traits tend to be.... diluted?? simplified??? for lack of better words..?
like yeah, he likes ketchup. yeah, he's laid-back n "lazy". yeah, he's a punny guy. yeah, he goes above n beyond for his brother's happiness... but what else?
do we even know much about papyrus? that guy's whole deal deserves a whole separate post!
CAN WE PLEEAAASE RECALL HOW THIS PIECE OF LORE WAS CASUALLY (in true toby fox fashion) SENT TO OUR EMAILS ?? NEVER TO BE ELABORATED UPON EVER AGAIN
why'd sans have to pull a sock incident on us at a time like this </3
PAPYRUS DID NOT MEAN IT SO LITERALLY AND YOU KNOW THAT, SANS, YOU JUST WANTED TO BE A LITTLE SHIT!!!!!!
Tumblr media
their life before snowdin.. oh what i'd give to hear all about it...
this got me thinking, though.
we know sans likely has an affinity for quantum physics, temporal complexities and astronomy (though the latter is irrelevant to the point i'll be making)
he can teleport for God's sake why are we so unfazed by that
aaaanywho,
so like his Workshop. the one with the broken machine, yeah. look at what toby's once said abt it
Tumblr media
why would they (who i assume r alphys + sans ?) try so hard to fix it? it's not like its the CORE (the machine said to be the source of all power 4 the undergound)
what's so important about this rusty, clanky pile of scrap metal?
....
haha lol, remember this?
Tumblr media
remember this (x2)?
Tumblr media
there's an abstract them here, and its clear he's not talking abt papyrus, frisk or even the player if we were to try n reach so hard.
could it be he is refereing to those in the picture with him?
if so, they must really mean a lot to him
Tumblr media
so let's get this straight:
- we know the skelebros were NEW additions to snowdin
- we know they had an OLD life, the picture at the workshop further proving sans also had a social circle, one beyond frisk's recognition which totally strikes me as odd, given this child has been ambushed by almost all monsters at that point
- sans knows about timelines. sans messes with time and space. it's heavily hinted sans has worked in quantum physics (the book[s] found at his place) and he apparently also has some abandoned, broken machine in his workshop (one of which he's presumably tinkered with)
- as a lost soul (but also in geno), sans demonstrates his intense defeatism and resignation saying this like,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
.... is sans trying to go back somewhere? do the skelebros come from a different world? a grassy place? r the residents of said place related to the picture in any way? does sans miss them? were they family? friends? lovers?! whoooooooo!1!!1 when!!! where!!!!! what is going on, toby!!!! PLEASEHWHWUE
[inhale]
but you know what, this is fine. pssssh, we don't need any of these answered, haha! no waaay! because while the UT fandom's in up in flames about such matters, toby's probably out there drawing yet another sans x reigen art piece to dish out when we least expect it (please let it be on my biryhday please let it be on my birthd)

Gates to Heck Chapter 4
"Shishou, I can't find him."
"Of course you can't." Reigen had a slightly manic look on his face, which had been there ever since Teru vanished into thin air. "He's not here anymore. Did he teleport? Can he do that?"
"I think it used up the last of his energy," said Shigeo. "It was already so low. Now I can't find his aura at all. I don't think he's in Seasoning anymore."
Shigeo took out his cellphone, ignoring the missed calls, and speed dialed Teru.
Teru was the one who had programmed his speed dial numbers. Number one was for home, two was for Ritsu, three was for Reigen, and four was for Teru. Shigeo was number one in Teru's phone.
An American pop song began its muffled chorus from somewhere in Teru's jacket, which was still sitting on the coffee table.
"Oh," Shigeo realized. "He doesn't have his shoes either."
There was a knock at the door that made both of them jump and Shigeo frown. As far as he knew, he was still the only person to visit Teru's apartment. Except for Claw.
He intercepted Reigen to answer the door himself, which was probably for the best, since the person on the other side already appeared to be in a bad mood, and Reigen would have only made it worse.
"Ritsu!"
Shigeo should have noticed the familiar aura sooner, but all he could think about were Teru's feet. It was starting to get dark outside, and the temperature was dropping too. The fever might have been failure-induced, but it could still be exacerbated by exposure to the elements. Teru was definitely going to need a hospital after this.
"Tell Hanazawa-kun that if he's going to keep you late, he should at least have the courtesy to ask first. Mom was worried when you didn't show up for dinner. Did you leave your phone on silent again, Nii-san?"
Now all Shigeo could think about was how Teru didn't have anyone to worry about him when his phone went unanswered or when he was late to dinner. He didn't even have anyone to eat dinner with.
Teru's living situation had seemed normal enough to Shigeo when they first met. A lot of Japanese children lived alone so they could attend better schools, and Black Vinegar was one of the best middle schools in Seasoning City.
Of course, most of them didn't start living alone until high school.
Not elementary school.
Shigeo hugged his brother. It wasn't a rare occurrence, but it was unusual enough to break off Ritu's tirade. At least until he saw Reigen.
"Did you rope them into another one of your jobs? I swear-"
"Save your energy, Otouto-kun," said Reigen, who seemed to have found his bearings again under the familiar power of Ritsu's glare. "I think it's gonna' be a long night."
Ritsu bristled like a cat. "I'm not helping you with whatever shady-"
That was when Teru's jacket started to vibrate.
They might not have even heard it if it hadn't been resting on the hard surface of the coffee table. Reigen patted the jacket down until he found a cellphone tucked into one of its pockets.
"That isn't Hanazawa-kun's phone," said Shigeo. They had just heard Teru's phone ring. Reigen was holding a cheap looking flip phone that Shigeo had never seen before.
Reigen answered it with an unsettlingly accurate Teruki Hanazawa impression. "Moshi moshi."
"Who the hell is this?" said the person on the other end.
"Who were you expecting?"
There was a snort. "He calls himself the Kaijin."
Reigen's eyebrow twitched. "What do you call yourself?"
"Misunderstood."
"You-"
"Look, I don't really give a shit," the voice cut him off, "but if you do, then you might wanna' know that Kaijin is in trouble. One of his catches slipped the net, and it was the one that got a taste of his aura the other night. I just felt that same aura flare up, and if our missing man felt it too- well, my gut says he'll be out for payback. He seemed like a Taurus, you know?"
While Shigeo was still processing the first few words, Reigen said, "So why don't you help him?"
"I'm off the clock," the voice said lazily. "I was just calling to tell Kaijin to bring the guy in if he doesn't get himself killed first."
He hung up. Reigen tried to call him back but the phone didn't even ring before being routed to an unactivated voicemail box. He dropped it back onto the coffee table.
"What's going on?" asked Ritsu. "Where's Hanazawa-kun?"
"That's the million yen question," said Reigen. He signed and ran a sweaty palm down his face.
Ritsu wrinkled his nose. "Why did Joseph call him the Kaijin?"
"That's a long- Wait." Reigen twirled around and put both hands on Ritsu's shoulders. "You know who that was?"
"I think so. Let go of me."
"Who was it, Ritsu?" asked Shigeo.
"It sounded like Joseph," said Ritsu, brushing off his shoulders. "You know, from the government? Suzuki-kun calls him sometimes for updates about his father."
"And he answers?" asked Reigen.
Ritsu nodded.
Shigeo didn't have Shou's phone number saved to his speed dial, or even his contacts, but he knew who did.
"May I borrow your phone, Ritsu?"
Ritsu handed it over without question, and Shigeo scrolled through the contacts until he found Suzuki Shou (Arsonist).
Shou answered on the second ring. "Ritsu-kun!"
"Actually, it's Shigeo," he said. "I was wondering if you're available to help us blackmail a government assassin?"
"I'll get my coat!"

So I'm one of those people who had to take a break reading ABoT. Part way through reading I thought of that writing advice that goes something like "look at the current scenario and figure out how things can get worse" and decided ABoT was applying that advice with both fervor and finesse. It had me hooked through multiple all nighters and it wasn't until, ironically, the ending of chapter 37 where Reigen is standing in the remains of the Mogami house that I stared at the next chapter button and realized I would absolutely not be able to handle more, mentally or emotionally, if this fic kept following the previous advice. So I set it aside for a month to recover, tentatively poked into the next chapter tense and ready for things to continue spiraling, and gradually started to relax and unravel until...well, you know. I remember having to put my phone down and take a walk with the reveal of everything that Ritsu had incidentally caused (even if the blame can be pinned on basically everyone in some measure, but that's a whole other essay in my notes).
When I reached the current cliffhanger, I waited a scant day before starting all over, this time slower, more careful, and with a more analytical eye. Not for critique, but because I was confused. That writing advice from before, I'd seen it implemented both poorly and skillfully, and ABoT used it with a finesse I've yet to see anywhere else, and I had to figure out how. What made what can be boiled down to a high stakes wild goose chase so compelling? Why couldn't I put this story down until my emotional limit couldn't handle any more? How could I learn from this and make my own writing better? What did this have that I clearly lacked?
I don't think it was until after Teru's and Ritsu's first fight that it clicked for me. I stared at that scene, then my own characters, and realized I'd written two of my own meeting in a similar fight and had neglected any form of consequences. My characters became friends because of a mutual friend. Because that was the end goal I wanted. I had that omniscient knowledge; I knew I wanted them to end up as friends, so I wrote the most objectively logical decision to make.
Except. These characters aren't objectively logical. They make the decisions that look the best to them in the moment, even if those decisions are bad, or horrible. A character who's been soundly beaten into the ground by another won't so easily become their friend, even if their opponent is the nicest person ever. There's distrust and fear. They're going to make bad decisions. Things weren't getting worse for the sake of getting worse. They got worse because of the direct (bad) decisions of the characters.
Once I realized that, I was struck with such violent inspiration I wrote something like 11k words worth of scenes and revitalized my own love of writing in a day. I was so stuck on the end goals I forgot about the struggles in between. I had gotten so focused on grand, overarching conflict, I forgot how compelling it can be to just have two characters punch each other in the face. Too much of my writing had stuff happening around the characters instead of happening TO or BECAUSE of them. I had forgotten character conflict, and when I started writing those flaws, I couldn't stop. I was having too much fun!
Sorry for rambling about my own stuff, I just wanted to convey how much impact you and ABoT have had on my own creative endeavors. I've been inundated with too many stories, fics, movies that occur on such big planet-wide scales with dire, multiverse threatening levels of conflict, that when presented with a long form tale of a kid desperate for his missing brother, told from the perspectives of a small, well developed and spectacularly characterized cast, in a single city, told with stakes that made me care more than any threat to the world, it was like a breath of fresh air. So I guess this is a thank you for ABoT as a whole and a thank you for writing Ritsu the way you do.
Unfortunately for him, he's an inspiration.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA YES YOU GET IT YOU GET IT YOU GET IT
ABoT, if nothing else, is a story about its characters. Everything that happens with consequence to the plot can be traced back to a character's own decisions. The characters' wants and needs and actions and faults all come first, and the plot follows accordingly.
(And maybe that sounds obvious.) Aren't stories about characters? But there are so many stories where the characters are just kinda... there. They're blank slates to receive the plot happening around them. Many things they try to do have no consequence. They'll try to take action and the plot will carry on exactly the same as though they'd never even tried, because the writer doesn't want to figure out how that character action might matter. Or a character will do something awful and the plot will just brush past and forget, no consequences or continuity, because the writer had their fun in the moments but now they care about getting the plot back on track, and that would be annoying to work around. They create stories where you can't put your excitement and investment in the characters cuz you just... can't trust they'll matter.
The most important thing about ABoT, to me, is that the characters are making it happen. The good, the bad, can all be traced back to decisions characters had the active choice in making.
I have plenty of fun joking that ABoT is one of those "oh my god it keeps getting worse!!!" stories, but I never ever do that by just dropping random terrible things from the sky. It's always the characters. It's them and it's their consequences of everything they've set in motion, or fought against, or allowed to happen. It's always a thread, thoroughly traceable, spawning from character actions which drives everything both good and terrible (and SUPREMELY terrible) that happens. It will always be the characters.
And I really, truly believe this is what I'm doing to make what is ultimately a wild goose chase featuring less than a dozen people worth reading. When Ritsu fucks up, it's worth caring about because you know this will impact the course of the story. When Reigen succeeds, it matters because he does have a grip on the reigns of the plot and has the chance to better this for everyone. When a character does anything, it matters because is about them, and what they're desperately trying to achieve.
And when a scene isn't about "an action with a consequence", it's still a scene with a point. For any scene I write I always make sure I can answer "what's the point of this scene?" Mob and Reigen reopening Spirits and Such isn't about to barrel the plot forward, but it's hearty and important character development for them. It's the "why should I care about this future being snatched from their grip" when everything goes wrong.
When everything went bad bad around chapter 32, and tumbled worse for many chapters to come, it was me finally tipping over the first domino in a chain of dominoes the characters themselves have been setting up since the start. It went bad not because I arbitrarily decided to fuck with them, but because everyone's actions carried consequences.
Even with ABoT's WORST possible outcome, where Mogami comes out the victor with everything he wants, all others crushed beneath him, this will mean the ruination or death of about... 10 people. A blip on the news. An "oh isn't that sad?" when a second kidnapped son never makes it home, when a conman goes missing (not noticed until a month later when the rent comes due), when a police officer kills his wife and himself, when an orphan kid vanishes off the map from Black Vinegar mid. And life would carry on. And the sun would still rise every day. And no part of this would end the world.
But if I'm doing this right, I want that outcome to feel like the end of the world. I want it to feel worse than that, given what a quiet and unsung tragedy it would be for all these personal efforts and struggles and desperate reaches for betterment are snuffed where they stand. Because they tried and it mattered and they failed anyway.
It IS just a wild goose chase centering around a kid who wants to have his kidnapped brother back, and it's 350k+ words to me.
dfjkdfnkjdf so anyway, I am very clearly super thrilled you were able to see this! It all ties back to character weaknesses and strengths, consequences of actions, irrational responses to situations fueled by character, and not by logic, and the audience knowing that what these characters do will matter. I love stories where humans are messy. I love stories where the tragedy happened because of them, where you can trace the thread back and find exactly how it all went wrong. I love clashing personalities. I love character spirals you can see a mile away and yet you know exactly why the character did that. I love yelling at the pages while knowing that realistically, this character wasn't going to do any better than that. I love knowing exactly how things could have been avoided, and knowing exactly why they happened anyway. I love seeing consequences stick. I love seeing characters matter. And I'm goddamn thrilled you feel that way too and that ABoT could make you find the way to do that in your own characters!!!

YOU FUCKING KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS BABEEEEY!!! yeah woo furries yeah woo. talk about designs and species stuff below the cut, plus some bonus drawings!
mob is a house sparrow, and ritsu is a eurasian tree sparrow! i wanted the two of them to be Very Normal animals. and also i like birds. house sparrows are one of the most widespread birds out there, and the closely related eurasian tree sparrow is has a similarly wide range across (shocker) eurasia. there's not much more normal then a little sparrow, i think. one of my earlier ideas was a beetle, also. mob's hairdo is also very inspired by the gloster canary, a fantastic little breed of canary with a bowlcut. look it up, i promise you won't be disappointed. also, i usually make siblings similar but related species, for the sake of design variety, which is why they're not the same species.
reigen is a microraptor! this design sprung from these doodles i did yesterday of him as a generic dromaeosaur-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and i knew i wanted him to be a dromaeosaur or similar winged nonavian dino, because i love how the design works with him. he HAS to have hand wings, i think they can make his hand poses even more fun. i wanted his species choice to reflect his Fraudulence in some manner- so my original choice was dakotaraptor, well known for the original published specimen including multiple bones which were actually from a turtle. however, dakotaraptor has a very rounded and robust face shape, which didn't fit what i wanted to do with reigen. turns out though, there was a semi-famous fossil hoax published in natgeo purported to be the "missing link" between birds and nonavian dinosaurs, called "archaeoraptor" (not acheroraptor, which is a real dinosaur) which was actually a fake made of parts from microraptor and the early bird yanornis.
tome is a european badger!! the smooth and swoopy shapes i think work with her design very well. i think she can digging in the ground for telepaths. i also wanted to include the black-and-white stripes into her hair!
dimple is a kitty cat. :)

It’s late, but I wasn’t about to let Tome’s day go by! I present: so many words.
Summary: This is not a psychic union. It’s an employee union.
Word Count: 2,005 (…yeah)
look for the union label…
The more Tome thinks about it, the better the idea sounds. She isn’t sure what benefits members of the Sun Psychic Union get, but they have to be good ones if they can keep all those superpowered psychics around. If they’re worth paying hard-earned dues over instead of going freelance, then it has to be a top-tier organization. And it’s one she can’t join.
It’s not like Tome doesn’t like the job she has, she wouldn’t work for any other psychic in Seasoning City! Reigen could pay her a little better for all her hard work, snacks don’t grow on trees—except for that one weird month with…spinach?—, but she’s not trying to leave. A union’s good backup if she ever does need something, someday. If she was a psychic, she’d have to join the Sun union, so if you think about it, this is basically going along with the rules.
Except there’s no union for employees of a psychic or the invaluable backup work people like her and Mr. Serizawa do. Like filing or…or billing receipts for curse-breaking massages. Or going out on cases in the evening at the beginning of the school year.
They deserve a union. And if they’re the ones in charge, they can choose their own benefits, like better pay, or days off, or more snacks, not asking if Peppercorn expects her to do homework. Reasonable stuff for a Spirits & Such exclusive union. Probably. She isn’t sure.
But she does have the office to herself today and the other option is working on her history homework…so she has all time she needs to look up anything. Everything! Using Reigen’s computer is fine too, it’s for the good of the workers.
All of Tome’s sources agree, the first step to a successful union is getting your coworkers on your side. When you have three of them, that’s gonna be a very good thing or a very bad one. She decides to focus on the positives as she takes the familiar route back to Salt Middle School.
She’s not exact sure what happened between the city almost breaking to pieces—again—and now, but when she spots the brief member of her old club, it seems like it’s been…good. Mob smiles at her and waves backs when she flags him down leaving the school yard.
She knows how much Reigen means to him and that Mob’s not really an employee anymore, but if she can get him on her side, she can convince anyone.
“A union?” Mob looks carefully over her printed list of employee benefits.
Tome takes a deep breath. She knows she got wild about aliens and it wasn’t really about aliens and the alien hunt almost didn’t turn out well and Inukawa went missing for ten days, and maybe she misses the structure of the Telepathy Club a little, but. There isn’t much to do at Peppercorn yet.
“I like it. I think you should have one,” Mob says, handing the paper back before Tome can lay out her ten steps to union success.
There’s something in the way he says it, not angry, but…whole in a way she hasn’t heard from him before. She thinks it’s good for him.
“Really?” she asks before course-correcting. She did not expect it to be that easy. “I mean, thank you for your support, Mob. Ah, Shigeo.”
It feels more like him to call him that for some reason, even if he looks surprised she calls him that too.
Once Shigeo’s out of sight, Tome lets out a long, winded sigh out into the twilight she didn’t know she had in her. Wipes a bit of sweat off her palms. Okay, she did it. She actually did it. One down, two to go.
She’s gonna start a union.
“Why is it on mobgle again?” Tome overhears Reigen mutter to himself, making one of those weird faces at his laptop.
She to tries to make it look like filing is the most interesting thing in the world.
The thing is Mr. Serizawa is a really nice guy, kind of a pushover sometimes if Tome’s honest, but she still brings Shigeo with her to talk to him. Just for more proof that this is a serious offer.
All the suggestions said it was better to talk to coworkers outside of work, so that’s what she does, brings Shigeo along and catches up with her other coworker about two blocks away from the office.
“A…union?”
“Like the Sun Union,” she cuts in this time. “We’ll have benefits and if we don’t want to do something, we can use collective bargaining power. So we can tell the boss ‘no.’ Really stand up to him!”
Mr. Serizawa gets a kind of look on his face.
“Like if the union, us,” she pushes on, nodding to Shigeo to include him, “votes that we’re not going into a sewer after a spirit, we won’t have to.”
She figures Mr. Serizawa can agree they don’t want to do that again.
“I don’t know…” he hedges, sounding almost sorry to tell her. “I never thought I’d have a job as good as working at Spirits & Such.”
“There’s strength in a union, Mr. Serizawa. We can make important decisions for the future of the company. Better pay! Better hours! And–and a new desk!”
He does look more interested at that, a flicker of doubt in his eye. And Tome jumps on it, slamming her fist to her open palm, a familiar excitement coming up.
“Those are working conditions, Mr. Serizawa! We can put that in our demands! And if we don’t get it? We strike!”
“A new chair would be nice,” Mr. Serizawa says, more to himself that to her but she’ll take it.
“Shigeo’s joined too,” she sweetens the deal. “We outnumber the boss three to one and we’ll get you that chair!”
She thinks Shigeo nods, but the unionizing articles said eye contact was important.
“…I don’t think he’ll fire us,” Mr. Serizawa says, considering.
“He won’t,” Shigeo agrees.
“That’s the spirit!”
They only need part of a workforce to get a union and she has three out of three. She knew her counselor was lying when she called Tome too forceful.
The problem is sometimes it’s harder to have Mr. Serizawa as part of the union before they’re—she’s—ready to list their requests than not having him in it. Something about keeping the (temporary) secret makes him more nervous around Reigen than usual. That’d be great as a friend, but it’s exhausting as a union president.
She can’t say Reigen’s noticed yet though. Probably because Mr. Serizawa looks kinda generally haunted sometimes, but she’s had two weird nightmares about it already.
“I want to join your union.”
Halfway across a crosswalk, a list of possible wage increase bargaining tactics in her hand, Tome gets ambushed by Shigeo’s little brother. Well, ambushed might not be the right word, but she does yell and almost lose her list.
“…you worked for Spirits & Such?” she asks once they’ve gotten to the other side of the street.
Reigen’s filing system before Mr. Serizawa was strange enough to be in French or something and she doesn’t know how he remembers to pay his taxes, but he always wrote down when they had any expenses.
Ritsu grimaces. “I…interned. Will I be allowed to join or not?”
…well, numbers are numbers.
Tome feels like she’s gotten the politest mugging in the country.
“You know this won’t work, don’t you?”
“You don’t qualify as an employee,” Tome says instead of answering the only spirit around here who hasn’t been exorcised. If she says it through a mouthful of chips, that’s fine. She doesn’t have to be polite right now.
Reigen’s out dealing with the office’s owner about a window getting blown up mid-exorcism and Mr. Serizawa’s gone to pick up a drink order. She figured this would make the best time to put the last touches on their requirements to keep the union from going on strike, but now she has an old ghost telling her she’s doomed for failure.
She’s heard that and it never stuck! Thinking about it, she should hit him with that net again.
No. She has a better idea, grinning and talking around another handful of chips. “You’re mad cause I didn’t ask you to join, aren’t you?”
Ekubo huffs, forming tiny legs and sitting down mid-air. “I’m the reason this place lasted as long as it has. Reigen wouldn’t even be alive if it wasn’t for me.”
Tome guesses she believes that with how much trouble Reigen gets into. Someone had to have tried to kill him before.
“Fine. Wanna join the union?” If this doesn’t do anything else, Tome can say she’s part of the only union in town with a ghost.
“You don’t stand a chance. Yes.”
Tome’s been a class president already and she held it together, more or less, for most of that year. She even brought Shigeo in, more or less, and that got her to this huge supernatural world most people don’t even notices. She knows what she wants and she goes after it! That’s why she’s here now.
She’s even had input from all of the other employees, the things they think are important like calling ahead and someone else who agrees about school nights. Hell, she cut her snack demands to fit what she guesses is the total S&S budget, all for the good of the union.
It’s something, right here in her hands and important and she doesn’t miss her friends who are still in middle school as much with her coworkers waiting at her signaland she can do this, bursting through the front door of the one and only Spirits & Such Consultation.
Reigen almost climbs up his desk with the door slam, but Tome’s not going let that stop her.
“We are officially announcing the formation of the Spirits & Such union as agreed by all employees, part timers, interns—”
“Interns?” Reigen squawks.
“—and freelance spirit consultants. Here are our requirements.”
She puts the hard copy down on the desk, between her and Mr. Serizawa it even has the company logo on it. And a shiny border, she paid to have it printed up herself.
Besides it’ll give Reigen the opportunity to follow along. Tome has the terms memorized.
They need clearer hours and leeway if they can’t make it! A competitive wage, or a better division of goods for services rendered!
“This is not a livable wage, shishou,” Shigeo adds about here in the speech. She thinks Reigen looks proud through the confusion.
And there’s the value of their labor! She and Mr. Serizawa could work other places! He has superpowers! She could focus on high school!
There’s the overtime, they have no overtime pay! No school night double time! A new chair!
Tome hasn’t felt this energized in months.
“And,” she says, winding down and half-out of breath and so, so proud, “if these terms are not agreeable, we’re going on strike.”
“Oh,” Reigen says. And goes through one of those things where he goes through several possible faces before landing on one. He puts the list back down. “I don’t agree to those terms.”
“But I—” slips out of Tome’s mouth before she can stop it. She’s not going to get upset like last time. She won’t. If they have to strike, and she has to apologize to her coworkers for that, so be it.
“I’m not agreeing to all that,” Reigen says, punctuating his words by pointing at various spots. “Look, there it says I have to give six hours notice and even I don’t know that sometimes. The supernatural doesn’t stop for peoples schedules. And here, we don’t have the budget for that type of raise in this economy.
“So you’re going to have to stay here and negotiate, Kurata.”
“Negotiate?”
“You’re the one in charge of this union, aren’t you?”
Tome grins and pulls a chair up to the desk.

Hey. The Times They Are A Changin’ by @bandtrees and @tigsbitties amiright (muffled face down on the floor)
more (some unsettling things) beneath the cut :3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Image 3 is my favorite sequence from an animation for TTTAAAC I’ve been working on, so here it is just in case I never finish </3, image 4 is me thinking about Mob’s house. If. That makes sense.)
OH MAN. OH MAN OH MAN. this fic has altered my brain chemistry in a way that has doctors baffled and leaves tragedy in its wake!!!!!!!!! Absolutely a masterpiece I’ve reread it 3 times now and every time I notice a new detail, there’s just SO MUCH CARE put into it. I think I could write an essay about every page of this fic LMAO it honestly blows me away, huge kudos to everyone who was a part of the project!!!!
Especially the multimedia aspects, they were so much fun to find and in some cases decode (Scared the SHIT outta myself with Breathe I think it’s one of my favorites). the youtube videos were so cool as well
Realizing a third of the way in that things will never get better was such a gut wrenching experience, and by the time I realized just how deep the hole Mob dug himself into was it was absolutely too late for anything to happen (the end of act 1 was horrific in the most amazing way. So many things stuck with me: the state Reigen was left in compared to how he was, Ritsu’s “surgery”, Dimple losing his best friend, Shou’s report to the police, Minori’s conversation (if you can call it that) with Mob?? Bone. Chilling.
One of the parts that has been sitting in my gut is Reigen’s fall, where he starts to ramble through fragments of old times. I genuinely thought he was calling out to Mob until just as the same time Mob did I recognized the words and it hit me like a HAMMER. I don’t know how to put it into words but Reigen rambling on like a broken record tore me apart, and then it gets WORSE. I only realized on my second read that the intro of the fic. (Correct me if I’m wrong) IS REIGENS PERSPECTIVE OF MOB SEVERING HIS TENDONS???? Holy fuck. Holy FUCK. The vague semblance of consciousness written there is so deeply unsettling I’m absolutely OBSESSED with it. ESPECIALLY THE FACT THAT EVEN IN THAT STATE HE STILL WANTS MOB TO BE HAPPY (the cheer ^^ mob bit) and idk if I’m interpreting right (this is gonna be so embarrassing if I’m not) but him recognizing the filthy jacket as well. Taking me OUT. AND. AND THE FACT REIGEN NEVER SPEAKS AGAIN AFTER THAT?????? (I could be wrong oops)
The mental states of every character in the fic are written so chillingly well. I can understand how Mob spirals, the anger and grief Tome feels, Shou's spite and anger, Teruki's conflict, Dimple's loss of his best friend, Serizawa's waning optimism, I can't name every character in this fic but they are ALL characterized so well. There's no needless conflict that make them OOC, there's a reason behind every little tragedy building upon themselves and creating a giant disaster that deeply affects the entire cast. Not to mention how its not just the loss of Reigen and Ritsu, but the loss of Mob too. If they were to have died on impact, its unsettling to think that things may have turned out better than this.
There’s a lot of things I wanna say that would basically be restating the fic (dimple losing his best friend, teru shaving, and the irony of ritsu’s powers being taken away by mob) so instead of writing 20 more paragraphs I’ll ask some questions I’ve been mulling over (ofc yall don’t have to answer if it’s revealing too much or smth)
Does Mob actually end up getting investigated or arrested? The formatting of the social media posts and texts makes them seem as if they're evidence and so does the ongoing "interview?" with Shou throughout the fic
In the party, is Reigen saying he doesn't like citrus a reference to the lemon sour :eyes:
I'm probably missing something but im curious about the metaphor around Reigen and a stray cat (hair clinging to Mob's clothes, comparing him to a stray cat finding a place to die, comparing him to a cat outside Serizawa's door)
If I'm not wrong and the "glitchy" sections at the beginning and end of the fic are Reigen and Ritsu's povs respectively, is their mind constantly like that or is it just in the specific circumstances where they have a small burst of consciousness?
last (thats a lie im definitely drawing more fanart in the future) but not least, some notes from when I was re-reading

TW FOR RACISM, CHILD IMPREGNATION, EUGENICS, & TRANSPHOBIA
Tumblr media
okay @silvercistern! thats okay! if you dont wanna be here for this conversation then i'll have a conversation without you! for all those readers out there who might've missed it
FOR EVERYONE'S INFORMATION:
Side Quest is definitely one of the weirdest fics I have ever seen get popular, for several content-related reasons.
Firstly, the racism. She writes her Serizawa to be half-black, half-Japanese, which is a perfectly valid hc if not for how she handles this fact. Ignoring the moments of subtle racism she gives Reigen (having him comment on the apparent "sloppiness" of his afro--which she also refuses to call an afro, by the way--and also having him guess his race via his racial characteristics), she blatantly and openly makes Toichiro racist towards Serizawa in a way that I feel we cannot ignore. For example:
Tumblr media
I shouldn't have to say that calling a black man a "slave" in any context is fucked up, but I will for the sake of this post! Since she already think I'm insane :-) Also:
Tumblr media
Once again, shouldn't have to say this but I will: Saying a black man has a "brutal masculine appeal" is so obviously and blatantly racist while also being entirely unnecessary for his character! We understand, as both readers and watchers of the base material, that Toichiro is a bad guy. We do not need him to then become racist, borderline-pedophilic, and a supporter of eugenics! And if you need quotes for some of these points, I will include one that has both:
Tumblr media
Even if he is saying that he won't facilitate the "impregnation of a child", why the fuck is he laughing about it? Just a reminder: Toichiro in canon is only a terrorist and a child abuser. Yes, he is a bad person. However, I think elevating his evil to this level removes any concept of character depth that you could possibly have, and makes the ending of this fic (where he is seemingly normal and fine, with both his wife and child in his relative good graces) all the weirder. But again, I'm insane, right? Oh yeah, one more point about Toichiro that I found from the comments:
Tumblr media
Now this tells me several things. Firstly, it's that she lacks the oversight to recognize when there is blatant racism in her works of fiction. Which is questionable, but I'm willing to let that slide because people should always be given the opportunity to grow. HOWEVER, the second part of this tells me that the first part might be a lie!!! Because hey!! If you are headcanoning a person's parent as being a WHITE SOUTH AFRICAN WITH EUGENICIST BELIEFS, you are basically saying your character was raised by an APARTHEID APOLOGIST. So I really don't know how you can avoid the racism embedded in that statement.
Now, let's move away from Toichiro because he's not the only character she completely butchers with weird concepts. Shimazaki is a trans chaser in this fic.
That's right. I'm not kidding. He is a chaser.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again reminding you that I'm the insane one.
There is literally no reason I can see as to why she would write this, other than that it is supposed to be a joke. Now, as an afab trans butch, there is only so much I can say to this point, but I will still ask: Who is laughing here? Who is this joke funny to? Is it to the trans women, who have to deal with similar kinds of harassment each time they try to go on a date? Or is it the Shimazaki fans, who I guess aren't weirded out by their fav being a chaser? Or is it just you, silvercistern? Is it just funny to you?
That point brings me to one of my last points with context. She seems to enjoy throwing in random "edgy" topics for either shock value or a laugh, neither of which I think her wording lands on. I did collegiate improv comedy for all four years of college (yes that may seem pathetic to you, but it was fun)--if anyone knows how a joke should sound, I think I'm one of the few. And, frankly, none of these land. For instance, the repeated "joke" of calling Reigen a creep or alluding to him being a pedo:

But, again, me? I'm insane, apparently. If you take issue with any of this, like I did, then to her you are insane.
This is not surprising to me, given that she already had a kind of breakdown to my friend regarding when they asked if silvercistern could tag one of her fics with sa.
Here is the link to their post. I ask that you respect their wishes and do not send harassment to silvercistern (as that is my wish as well) and do not be weird to them in their inbox.
But this is why it does not surprise me that she 1. would private her twitter account when faced with even the slightest backlash, 2. would then talk about the situation to her mutuals to garner sympathy, and 3. not even bother to read a single thing I said, given that she replied to my post in less than a minute after I had posted it.
By the way, one of those mutuals? Yeah, they are literally a toichiro/shou shipper. Here's the proof:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, this is not an excuse to go harass her. I DO NOT CONDONE HARASSMENT OF ANY KIND. ANY OF MY POSTS ABOUT THIS SITUATION WERE MADE TO DIRECTLY ADDRESS HER AND THE ISSUES I HAVE. IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO CHIME IN, DO IT ON YOUR OWN TIME WITH YOUR OWN POST. DO NOT HARASS HER.
So yeah. Guess this would be something an insane person does, right? lol

Reigen x Mobs older sister! reader - SFW
Tumblr media
You had been overseas for university and only just graduated. During the time you were away Shigeo joined some company, which was strange to you since he's only in middle school.
Now that you're back in Seasoning City you wanted to spend some time with your family and especially understand Shigeo's situation a bit better.
When you asked him about it he said it was a place where he trained his psychic powers from him 'master'. You knew about his psychic powers, but having a 'master'? That's a bit strange. You told your lil bro to give you the address so you can go there.
The next day arrives and after school Shigeo heads over to the office, and you wait for him. "Ah! Oneesan!", he waves at you and does a little jog over to reach you. "Yo Shigeo, how was school today?", you asked. "Not bad. Thanks for asking." He replied with a smile. You wondered if he's happy to be coming to the office or if it's something else.
Leading you to the door he opens it letting you go in first. You did a quick scan. It was a pretty mediocre office, but it didn't look all that shady which what you were mostly worried of. Before you could analyze the situation further you heard a man yell, "OI MOBBU IS THAT YOU?"
Coming out from another door in the office was a blond man clad in a gray suit, who you couldn't deny, was quite handsome. He made eye contact with you and his eyes grew wide.
Now from Reigen's POV, Mob never had a reason to mention you nor did the conversation topic come up so Reigen just didn't know you existed.
The moment he saw you he was speechless and taken aback by your beauty, completely missing that Mob was right behind you. Thinking you're a customer he tries to regain his composure.
Just as he's about to welcome you Shigeo interjects, "Ah master hello! I'd like you to meet y/n, my older sister." He said this with a small smile while being utterly oblivious to Reigen's anger towards the boy for not telling him about his pretty sister.
Maintaining his composure he greets you and sits down with you to talk about what Shigeo has been upto at his office. You figured out pretty easily that Reigen is lying about being a psychic, but Shigeo looked really happy being there so who are you to be a snitch.
Shigeo and you start making your way back home. You send Shigeo out first as you hand a card with your number on it over to Reigen, "I probably shouldn't be doing this since you're Shigeo's boss and all, but if you're interested let's get some coffee sometime ok?" As soon as you said that you strutted out like the girlboss you are before he could say anything.
The moment you closed the door, Reigen's composure completely broke and he started sweating immensely wondering if he's dreaming or not.
As you're walking away with Shigeo your phone vibrates and you already had a good feeling about what's in store for the future.

okay i have a fluff request, idk if you headcanons but if you do, can I request headcanons for reigen and gojo x female reader who likes to take a lot of naps during the day. AND I MEAN A LOT, like I be sleeping 3-4 times a day plus my 9 hours of sleep st night, I just love sleep. Sometimes I sleep through dinner and my friends have to call me to wake me up lol. THANK YOU, YOUR WRITING IS AMAZING!!
Tumblr media
✧༺♡༻∞ rest well ∞༺♡༻✧
featuring: gojo satoru x fem!reader // reigen arataka x fem!reader
no content warnings, just some fluff (ó ꒳ ò✿)
Tumblr media
━━━━☆ gojo satoru.
gojo can be pretty pouty when you sleep for hours at a time but that’s only because he misses your company dearly while you’re in dreamland. he tries not to disturb you… emphasis on tries. you don’t think he tries all that hard though.
the sleepies can strike at any time but never fear, gojo’s limitless is here!! (pardon the corniness) but really, when yawns start bubbling from your throat every other minute and your eyelashes begin to flutter under the growing heaviness of your eyelids, he knows it won’t be long before you pass out. he’ll whisk you back home while carrying you princess-style, lowering you onto the bed with such grace and ease. he especially loves it when you manage to murmur a “thank you satoru….” before passing out.
you swear cuddling with gojo helps you sleep more soundly. whenever you’ve spent a night together, you feel on top of the world the next morning. he notices one particular day you’re more chipper than usual and you tell him with a beaming smile, “because i got to be in your arms all night, duh!!” so he promises to give you more nights like that and you relish his touch, in how the firmness of his muscles helps you feel safe and how the faint scent of his cologne buzzes around in your brain as you drift off to sleep…
━━━━☆ reigen arataka.
reigen’s work hours can sometimes be sporadic, you know this and even though he’s told you countless of times that you don’t have to try and wait up for him, that you should be resting comfortably in bed, he constantly finds you sprawled out on the couch, another failed attempt at staying up to welcome him home. sometimes he wakes you up and ushers you to bed, but other times he can’t bear to rouse you awake– but he will make sure to cover you with a blanket and place your favorite pillow under your head.
he knows better than to wake you but if you’ve been conked out for an unusually long time, he’ll gently shake your shoulder, a glass of water in hand as he murmurs, “you need to hydrate.” you’ll protest, groaning that you don’t want to have to wake up again to go to the bathroom but he’s insistent, “you didn’t drink enough water today, did you? drink.” he means well so you listen… and then grumble when you have to get up an hour or two later.
you can sleep anywhere, reigen learns this pretty early on. name any spot in his office and you’ve taken a cat nap on it before. after the renovation of spirits and such consultation, the new couch becomes your go-to. reigen keeps your favorite blanket at the office, draping it over your body and smiling at how cute you look, all curled up and soundly asleep.

you didn't just write that angst down of your zombie au and expect me to go on about my day without crying,,,,
also also, now i wonder what did mob do to finally have reigen and teru trust that he's, well, still him? WHAT HAPPENED I NEED TO KNOOOOW (and the terumob hug oh no, oH NO *RIPS MY HAIR OUT)
((sorry if i'm asking too much i'm just that invested in this au jwnxjwndi i hope you don't mind 🥹))
DW im like so stoked abt the questions i LOOOOVE talking abt the zombie au it makes me ill
i think it's a lot of little things that add up, actually. mob, compared to other zombies, is still quite reserved and quiet. in his weird little sparse mumblings, they occasionally catch what sounds like pieces of their names in the stream of syllables. even tho he's a zombie now and most of them r usually sloppy in their movements, mob still sits with relatively good posture and with his hands politely in his lap
one of the biggest things was seeing him sit down next to ritsu and plop his head on his shoulder. old habit of his when ritsu was bummed abt smth... they saw that and the gears started churning..
a lot of behavior can be explained away if ur desperate enough for sciency proof, which is what teru likely tries to pull at first. zombie mob watches ants on the ground and gets easily distracted by animals and bugs, much like he used to pre-zombie, but many many zombies do that anyway... the hug-back is purely muscle memory there's surely no recollection of emotions or a desire to comfort in there... that thing he still does when he tilts his head at confusing things is surely a Typical Zombie Behavior
when they go to grocery stores to loot them mob stands in front of the fridges with the milk cartons that are 100% expired by now, like he wants one. he seems more quiet and a little bummed when ritsu tells him they're bad by now and that he can't have one. him and teru Totally used to have one of those silly secret handshakes for the funsies and teru starts it on instinct one day and mob returns like ?half of it in a very stilted and sloppy fashion, struggling to remember but doing it well enough.that almost makes teru cry Again
but honestly, even without any of that at all, if they rly search in his eyes, they See it. they see Him, and they never know how to describe it, but he's still there in his gaze, it's just incredibly muted and tired. there's recognition when he turns his head and looks at them, there's even some semblance of fondness when they smile at him. you don't see it if u aren't looking for it, and at first they're convinced that's the deal, that they Want to see it so obviously it's just a trick of their brain that they Do, but...it is there. he is still there
reigen and teru quickly join ritsu in the belief that mob is still very much mob, in almost every interaction they have with him. and they quickly become just as eager to find a cure for him—seeing him be Him But Not Quite is harder on them than they thought it'd be,, makes them miss him that much more

hi maybe mp100 fandom can help me answer this:
how does the healing work at the end of the world domination arc? i'm a little baffled by the manga. read more for panel-by-panel exploration and follow-up questions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i had first assumed that the initial broccoli explosion healed everyone up, but reigen's clearly injured by the explosion? as in, the blood does not appear on his face until after toichiro explodes. and ritsu and teru are still visibly injured even when the broccoli first appears from the mushroom cloud.
then later when they dig up mob, ritsu mentions they were healed:
Tumblr media
so i assumed at first that he meant they were healed by sho's healer friend fukuda.
but then mob is also healed and they just dug him out of the broccoli, so unless fukuda randomly healed him and left while he was still in the broccoli, he was healed another way:
Tumblr media
so if reigen was injured, not healed by the explosion, but then they were all healed, when did the healing happen? was mob healed separately? were they all healed when they made contact with the broccoli?
Tumblr media
and how do the former scars heal their scars? is it from a healing pulse or is it a result of something suzuki did?
please help me understand this. opinions, headcanons, manga panels i'm missing here --- all appreciated.
signed,
a very tired fic writer
