Israel is using the support of world leaders and repeatedly using the language of civilisation vs barbarians etc. If you're from a place that's representing you and supporting Israel, making it clear you don't support it is important. I can't talk about the intricacies of the many government systems, but I know the left within the United States is gaining more and more fear around the lack of support of young voters and voters of colour they rely on. So contact them and make them aware of how the support of funding Israel's violence against Palestine is in fact making them lose political capital.

A/n: the Kingdom of León is the modern day province of León in Spain, Reader's mother is Leónese, or technically Spanish. I also apologize for making too much lore for Y/N's mom but i needed a reason a clairvoyant witch is allowed to live and annoy Alfred as much as Aethelwold

“He is a monk!” Your mother exclaimed in disgust.

“He’s not a monk, he was never ordained. Lady Thyra gave him those robes as a gift.” You counter after having gotten to know your betrothed in the hour or so you spent in his room last night.

You had expected them to be angry for going out of your way to get a husband, but then again, your family was not at all like the others.

“He is second in line for King Alfred’s throne, my love.” Your father pinched the bridge of his nose as his wife fumed over the match. “A cold or a hunting accident could make your daughter Queen of Wessex.”

“Kings die and blood doesn’t make a king. Besides, it is not young Osferth’s destiny to be king just as it wasn’t for the crown to pass to Aethelred’s sons.” Your mother argued. Mother was the only woman to get kicked out of Wintanceaster and be welcomed back just as often as Uhtred of Bebbenburg.

The first for demanding her dowry be paid back to her after her husband, the late King Aethelred, died in battle, the second for eloping with your father ,an Ealdorman with some influence, and most recently, engaging in a battle of wit against Brother Godwin where both seers revealed deeply personal secrets to the horror of all those assembled.

Mother won by revealing Godwin uses his position and ability to get comely servant girls in his bed.

She had been so distraught when she learned Uhtred had killed him, she had been hoping to kill him herself by inviting him to dine with her.

“You had no qualms on having them as guests these past nights.” You interject having inherited your mother’s stubborn streak and your father takes that as his cue to leave on the excuse of needing to ask Father Beocca about whether your bride price would be paid by the Lord of Coccham or the King of the Saxons.

“That is because guests leave, besides you know well why I am opposed to this match.” Your mother countered. “What would happen if he came to discover Abraham’s God isn’t the source of our abilities?”

You are witches, your mother had come from a long line of them dating back to before the Romans conquered her homeland. The family had eventually decided they would say God was the source of their power thus when they fell from grace in the fledging Kingdom of León, the Pope would be forced to save them.

Well, at least her, the only one of her siblings to inherit her father’s abilities.

According to lore she grew up to be such a beauty she that the King of León and the Emir of Córdoba both offered for her when she came of age only to meet Aethelred and Alfred of Wessex in Rome resulting in her being packed on a ship to Wessex the moment Aethelred became a widower some years later.

She is very sure you have inherited her gifts, but you have grown and no ability like that has manifested in you. Except for her knack for healing, of course.

Perhaps your daughters will have both abilities, you hope Osferth does not mind a bit of magic if it does happen.

“Father Beocca’s wife is a witch, and he speaks well of her.” You say hoping to wear her down. You do not need the permission of the once Queen of Wessex to wed Osferth, but you’d like your mother to be on board with it.

“That is a vile rumor, Thyra is just a Dane. I better not hear you repeat Aethelwold’s drivel again, daughter.” Your mother corrected and you apologized immediately.

“I promise you that Osferth is not at all like the last priest you killed.” You swear and she softens.

That priest didn’t choke on a bone, mother stared at him until he did when he questioned the paternity of your eldest brother whom everyone thinks is the late king’s son.

“Fine, you may wed him, but the moment Alfred’s bastard proves to be unworthy of you, I get to kill him. It has been a while since I was last banished from Wintanceaster.” Your mother relented thinking he won’t return for you as he promised. She’s seen something, she is hiding it, you know it. “But I do like that you showed initiative, well done, my girl.”

“I envy you; you get to see so much of Britain and the furthest I have been to is Lunden.” You walk with Osfeth in the gardens, right where all can see you, so he doesn’t try anything.

He is not like that, mama, you had protested when she sent a maid with you.

“If anyone had told me a year ago, I would be traveling with warriors instead of taking holy orders, I would not have believed them. Perhaps after we are wed, we could travel to see anything you like, my lady.” He is nervous, hides it, but does that same thing King Alfred does by hiding his hands behind his back as if they had no idea what to do with them.

Come to think of it Aethelric, your eldest brother, does it too. Perhaps the rumors were true, or maybe just father was too closely related to the Kings of Wessex.

Anyways.

“Y/N, Osferth.” You playfully remind him and he smiles. You like his smile, made your heart skip a beat even when it wasn’t directed at you.

Now that its directed at you, you aren’t even sure you are breathing still.

“I do not think your lady mother would let me keep my limbs if she heard me use your name, y/n.” he says your name almost in a whisper for fear of your chaperones hearing him say it and report it to the Leonese lady who employs them. “I don’t think she likes me much.”

“Only because she doesn’t know you. She did not even know you weren’t actually a monk.” You just dress like one which is a little strange if you must ask. “She looks forward to knowing you and getting kicked out of Wintanceaster again.”

“Again?” he asks unaware of your family’s history. But then again Uhtred and his men were banished after they were.

“Mother engaged in a battle of secrets with Brother Godwin and won. King Alfred was pressured by his lady wife and the church to punish her in some way despite her being her.” You answered and you suppose now you must tell him about his children with you may be seers on the first official meeting as betrotheds.

Something mother may have foreseen which now explains the setting and number of chaperones.

“My mother is a seer, a God’s given gift passed down in her family since before Christ even walked the earth.” Which means you or your children will have it. “It is why she was brought to England from León.”

“Are you one too?” he asks the question everyone immediately makes when they see you. Your brothers don’t get that one often, mainly because they believe it passes from mother to daughter.

“No.” you shake your head hoping he’s not disappointed by your answer. “Much to everyone’s disappointment, I am not.”

“I find that hard to believe.” He speaks it so earnestly that the two of you stop walking and you forget how to breathe.

“That I am not a seer like her or that other thing?” you ask forgetting what you had even said when he steps close enough for you to make out a smattering of freckles peeking form his collar. He hasn’t even done anything except listen to you and yet you are swooning.

Fainting dead away would still not have been as embarrassing as retching in his room like you did last night, come to think of it.

“I find it hard to believe anyone would think you are a disappointment, Y/N.” For a man afraid to use your given name he has no such fears when he takes your hand in his and, worse, brings it to his lips.

Instead of doing something romantic that would not make you look like an idiot, you giggle nervously.

Not that it ruins the moment, you think as the both of you lean in daring to scandalize the entire household. Your stomach is aflutter from the excitement, the strange heat you feel stemming from your hand ---which he is still holding as if it were precious to him despite the two of you being strangers--- and knowing your infatuation appears to be mutual.

“May I kiss you?” he asks as his other hand comes to gently cradle your face.

For a moment the world around the two of you disappears and in the middle of a crowded garden, you have your first kiss.

“You may thank me for the oysters by naming your firstborn daughter after me, dearest.” Your mother passes by arm in arm with a very amused Lady Thyra.

This was all until the Granada War broke out, whose aftermath would mean the expulsion of Eleazar and his people from now was considered the Kingdom of Spain. En route through Europe he was separated from his family, and in September of 1492 Eleazar would be turned by a wayward vampire who left him in the gutter. Due to his gentle nature he did not take to the transformation well, and he felt no purpose could be sought out in this new and strange life he lived. That, was until he encountered Demetri and Afton on a job in 1502 AD.

Hi there! hope your day is going well :) I was curious about a comment you left on this poll about preferred autism terminology/labels

you mention that getting an autism diagnoses would mean never being able to move to new zealand. I was just wondering if you meant personal, or legal limitations and b) if it's a legality issue, would you be comfortable naming the country in which you live (and ofc absolutely no worries if not!)

So unfortunately, there are countries that don't allow autistic immigrants to emirate there; namely: New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, and potentially the United Kingdom. New Zealand, in particular is known to explicitly discriminate against autistic folks in their immigration law: "An applicant for permanent residency will fail if they... Have condition(s) that fall within the extensive range of conditions listed at A4.10.1 – including conditions ranging from uncontrolled epilepsy to autistic spectrum disorders, from paraplegia to any psychiatric illness that has required hospitalisation."

(Canada used to be on this list until 2018, when they updated their immigration policy.)

These countries often include a strict medical examination as part of their immigration policy and argue that accepting immigrants with autism might burden their country's health system and special education services. And if it's discovered that you're autistic after you move there, they can deport you.

I live in the U.S., and our last president's administration tried to ban all immigrants with disabilities for these same reasons.

Sometimes these countries will allow immigration if an autistic person has low enough support needs that it's under a certain monetary value. For New Zealand, anyone with expected medical costs over $41,000 over 5 years are barred from immigrating.

But we do know these countries have barred autistic people from immigrating before. Here's an example from New Zealand.

But let this be a warning to anyone who is suspecting they may be on the spectrum: even if you're not planning to immigrate ever in your life, an autism diagnosis can often open you up to discrimination. This Twitter thread details some examples: including having your children taken away from you, being denied access to trans-affirming healthcare, and even being denied life insurance.

If your support needs are low enough that you're able to get by without an official diagnosis, I would seriously consider not pursuing a diagnosis for your own safety and well-being. Be careful out there.

Descendant's Character List Part One: AK's

I have been asked to make a list of characters who appear in my fics, both book canon and ocs, so... I apologize for how long this is going to be. (The only characters excluded on this list are those who appear in the movies).

This is everyone born before the first Descendants movie. I may add on to this list as time goes on and more characters are created. All ages are the ages at the time of D1. I headcanon that the first movie takes place in March-April of 2015, or A.C. 20

Alice:

"Ally" Allison (Canon) - First seen in Wicked World. I made "Ally" be a nickname. Longs to be a detective, and works at her mother's tea shop. 15

Aladdin & Jasmine:

Prince Aziz (Canon) - First mentioned in The Isle of the Lost. 17

Prince Amir (Canon?) - His name is said during the Tourney Game in the first movie, spelled Amir according to subtitles. His jersey says Emir, but I went with the "A" spelling and made him Aladdin and Jasmine's son. 15

Princess Ebba (OC) - Ebba loves the sea and everything to do with it. 16

Princess Elle (Canon-ish) I believe she was confirmed by Kenny Ortega. She was born without the use of her legs, but thanks to her grandfather, is able to transform into a mermaid. 14

Prince Pierre (OC) - Audrey's older brother and heir to Aurora and Phillip's kingdom. He is dating Ruby Fitzherbert. 20

I keep forgetting that Netflix!Isaac is supposed to be the same character as the one from the source material, based on character design alone. Dude looks like a goody-good Christian boi who would dare never show even an inch of skin. Making him black is completely irrelevant to the change in his character design, too, because the show's own concept art for his potential designs proves that they could have kept his manwhore-ness completely intact at least aesthetically- so I don't want to hear the whole, "You don't like the redesign because they changed their race!" response from people in this case. Dude just doesn't have the slutty "vibe" as he was clearly meant to.

Isaac's race swap bothers me only for one reason: what they did with it is lazy. They gave him an unnecessary "former slave" background that honestly reeks of Americacentrism - oh, of course African people can only exist in Europe as slaves! What do you mean that the Transatlantic Slave Trade wasn't a thing yet?

I keep saying this, but if you wanted Isaac to suffer persecution for real life reasons, and if you really really really wanted the Devil simp to be of color (whatever makes you happy...), he could have fled from the Emirate of Granada.

This was the last independent Muslim state in Europe until 1492. As the show takes place in 1476, we're at the tail-end of the Reconquista. You know. The Christian kingdoms fighting to reconquer the Iberian peninsula from the Ottoman Empire?

Isaac could have fled from the war, as a young Muslim boy with red hair which marked him as a spawn of the Devil and with a "satanic" interest in black magic (in the flashback of his childhood, he says that he wanted to learn magic to help his master - in this version he could have simply be instinctively attracted to forbidden spells and unnerved everyone around him, even if we keep the show idea that he did not perform magic as a child like Hector did).

It was all here! And it would have been actually pretty interesting! And it would have tied with all the themes, both "Forgemasters shunned from the human world for their affiliation with darkness" from the games and CHURCH BAD from the show.

Of course, this is also not a necessary change. Hector and Isaac suffering the same type of persecution and reacting to it in different ways (Isaac being perfectly happy to follow Dracula in his mass slaughter and Hector not believing every single human deserves to die) is kind of an important part of their character.

(also, making the Devil simp a Muslim is very... questionable, even more so than making him black. By all means, Hector and Isaac should be complete athetists. No God would love them, except for Dracula.)

But this would imply that Ellis and the gang cared about Hector and Isaac, both as their own characters and as foils. They did not.

The other thing that bothers me is that the show artists can't even take credit for N!Isaac's prim and proper outfit:

Kojima, who is not a hack, can use clothes to convey characterization and state of mind. I talked about this here and here, about halfway through. But yeah, Isaac's slutty outfit isn't only just fanservice for the sake of fanservice: Isaac let his proper clothes rot off his body after Hector broke them, as the Curse eroded his sanity. The contrast with this very conservative uniform is so that we can see how low he has fallen after Hector's betrayal and Dracula's death.

(also, in PtR, Hector and Isaac wear the same uniform, with the same crest. because it's a uniform. what is the fucking reason n!hector goes around with knight clothes while n!isaac goes with a cassock, and why in the hell do they have different crests. i fucking hate this so much it's stupid it's so stupid!!)

Anyway. Isaac is a deeper character than anyone gives him credit to. And it deeply annoys me how N!Isaac is touted as an improvement, when he keeps nearly nothing about Isaac and he seems to have been redesigned and reimagined out of spite for the source material.

Musa ben Musa ben Qasi: the third king of Spain

The Qasi were one of the most powerful families that established their possessions in the regions located between the Pyrenees and the valley of the Ebro. They were muladíes, that is, converts to Islam and descendants of that count Fortún who had already become a Mohammedan in the early days of the Arab conquest in order to maintain his fiefdom.

The history of this family, whose influence became enormous, is very intricate and it is linked to the birth of the Navarrese monarchy, with which they had blood ties. The Musa ben Musa ben Qasi of the moments in which the Navarrese kingdom begins to move , he was brother of the last Muslim governor of Pamplona, dependent of Córdoba, Mutarrif ben Musa ben Qasi. The Qasis will be loyal to the Umayyad power on some occasions, and on many other occasions they will lean towards the Navarrese or a clear dissidence, and like all great families, they will have their days of splendor and also its times of decline.

The son of Musa ben Fortún ben Qasi, Musa ben Musa ben Qasi, would be the member of his lineage who would create a true independent principality that would remain until his death, in 862. By the way, when his mother was widowed, she had remarried with Eneko Aritza, considered the first historical king of Navarra, to whom she gave a son, Fortún Íñiguez.

In the year 842, Musa ben Musa, resided in Tudela as governor and contributed his troops to an Umayyad olive tree against the lands of Álava, directing personally the vanguard of his columns. Upon return from that expedition, an Umayyad officer, perhaps jealous of the military successes of Musa ben Musa questioned his courage and reproached him harshly, which outraged and deeply humiliated the muladí, who returned to Tudela and declared opened war against Córdoba and all its representatives. If until now there had been loyal, from this moment on he dedicated himself to carrying out raids on Muslims lands, causing great havoc. Abd al-Rahman II was seen in the need to go out to fight him, sending strong contingents under the command of Harith ben Bazi. This general defeated Musa near Borja, and besieged him in his city, Tudela. Musa then decided to start negotiations and his proposal was accepted. He would evacuate Tudela, but Harith ben Bazi would stop harass him and he would return to Zaragoza. But this pact was soon broken by the Umayyad general, and Musa ben Musa, who had settled in Arnedo, requested the help of the Basque king García Íniguez.

The Cordoban troops took Arnedo and crossed the Ebro. There the soldiers were waiting for the hosts of Musa and García Íñiguez and

near a town called Balma, the confrontation took place, which ended with bad consequences for Harith ben Bazi, who was wounded, losing an eye and, furthermore, he was taken prisoner.

Abd al-Rahman II was ready to punish the insolence of Musa ben Musa and for three consecutive years, 842, 843 and 844, he went against the muladí, obtaining good results, but they only managed to get Musa to comply with the power of Córdoba for a short time. The campaign of the year 843 was the most costly for Musa.

The forces of García Íñiguez and Fortún Íñiguez had met with those of the muladí and it seems that the encounter with the Muslim army whose head was the emir himself, took place at the end of July. The allies suffered a terrible defeat. Fortún Íñiguez was killed and his head was sent to Córdoba; the king García and his son Galindo were wounded; Musa could only save his life by fleeing, after being violently knocked off his horse. Many also died. Basque nobles and those who remained had to ask the emir, the haman, for forgiveness. Abd al-Rahman II sent his son, Prince Muhammad, in the following summer, again against Musa ben Musa and his Christian allies, until the rebel sent peace proposals that were accepted and led to the return of Musa ben Musa to the government of Tudela, after he left hostages who ensured their loyalty to Córdoba. It seemed that everything was returning to normal, and even the muladí responded to the call that the emir made to face the landing of the Vikings. But the faithful vassal ceased to be so for only three years after.

At the death of Abd al-Rahman II, it could be said that Musa ben Musa lived and acted like a true independent prince. The new emir Muhammad I recognized the lord of Tudela as his vassal, demanding some very light signs of submission to cover appearances, signs that Musa ben Musa's benefits did not cost him anything to assume. Even the emir will commission him to wage holy war to the Hispanic March in the name of Córdoba, and to proceed in the same way with the Asturian kingdom. Furthermore, related as he was to the Navarrese dynasty, on several occasions he would be the interlocutor between Pamplona and Córdoba. He had achieved several military successes in the region of Barcelona and Lérida, making taking two Frankish counts prisoners and obtaining great loot from the assault of the Tárrega castle. He couldn't ask for more.

From then on, Musa ben Musa acquired the air of a great lord, feeling like a authentic sovereign. And since pride is something that is in every human being, he is called "the third of Spain". Of course it was to be satisfied because his undisputed dominions extended over much of the Upper March, including Zaragoza, Huesca and Tudela, but "the third king of Spain" was going, very soon, to receive a lesson in humility.

His possessions were located within the Asturian kingdom and he decided to protect them, building a stronghold, that of Albelda, very close to the current city of Logroño. When the construction was finished, perhaps around the year 859, Ordoño I, besieged it and Musa went to defend it. He had unfortunate luck, because inbconfrontation with the king of Asturias, he was seriously wounded, defeated, and his son-in-law, Garcia,

was killed. His camp was completely looted and the valuable gifts that the French monarch, Charles the Bald, had sent him disappeared, possibly as a ransom for the two Frankish counts. Albelda was taken, its garrison exterminated and construction demolished.

It was a very hard blow for him that he survived for a short time. His son, Lope, chastened, he declared himself a vassal of Ordoño l, while his father tried extend their domains to the south. In a confrontation with the lord of Guadalajara, Ibn Salim, in the year 862, he was wounded again and died before he could return to Tudela.

Córdoba, despite that love-hate relationship that had marked the relations with the muladí rebel, he felt his loss because he was a valuable ally in his fight against the Christians of the north.

At his death he was survived by four children: Lope, Mutarrif, Fortún and Ismail. First, welcomed to Christian lands, he lived for a very short time. His three brothers saw how Córdoba was taking over his father's entire inheritance, although a few more years afternoons they reappeared. In 871, Mutarrif seized Tudela and declared himself independent, and Ismail did the same with Zaragoza. Emir Muhammad reacted immediately and marched towards Tudela which he reconquered, and returning to Córdoba, he ordered the execution of the rebel and his three sons. Ismail gave him more headaches since, for ten years, he stood firm in Zaragoza despite the attacks by emiral troops. In 882, prince al-Mundhir, accompanied by one of the best Umayyad generals, marched towards the territories of the Banu

Qasi in order to attack them and also to do the same with the Asturian kingdom. Neither on this occasion could they take Zaragoza, although devastated other places located in their surroundings, such as Rueda and Borja, where Musa ben Musa ben Qasi's grandson is found, Muhammad ben Lope.

According to Christian chronicles, this grandson, jealous of his uncles, took side with the Umayyads, and together with them, he attacked the lands of Lleida, at that time a fiefdom of his uncle lsmail, who ended up submitting and handing over hostages, but he disliked that his nephew had closed ranks with his enemies. As for the Cordoban troops abandoned their territory, attacked Muhammad ben Lope, with little luck, since he and his son fell prisoners of his nephew who confine them in the castle of Viguera. Free from those uncomfortable relatives, he seized Zaragoza and reestablished Umayyad power in the city.

But Muhammad I, with great lack of tact, demanded of the prisoners, something that outraged Muhammad ben Lope, who chose to set them free and approach the Christian king, Alfonso III. Once again, from Córdoba, the army to reduce a Banu Qasi and neither on this occasion did the Umayyads finished them off. But something was changing, because Alfonso III and the Muslims established peace talks. The numerous seditions and internal affairs that al-Andalus suffered advised leaving the fight for the moment against the Christians, and so it happened. The envoy of Alfonso III, the monk Dulcinio, carried out the conversations with Córdoba and, as a reward, took to Oviedo the remains of the martyrs Eulogius and Leocricia.

After the death of Muhammad I, in the year 886, Alfonso III achieved great territorial extension at the expense of the Muslims. For almost twenty years, reconquered and repopulated large areas, especially in the valleys of the Leonese region and created new fortresses such as Burgos, Simancas, Dueñas, Toro, plus two other advanced defensive fortresses, San Esteban de Gormaz and Osma, that will pass on numerous occasions from Christian hands to Muslims, and viceversa.

Peace with the Asturian monarch had been signed, but there were still the always restless Banu Qasi. They were no longer the "third kings of Spain", but they still had power and continued to be a problem for the Umayyad power. The only surviving son of Musa ben Musa ben Qasi, Ismail, since Fortun had already deceased, settled in Lleida, around the year 884, fortifying the stronghold. In that same year, Muhammad ben Lope, who despite his attempts did not manage ally with Alfonso III, had to start thinking about guarding against another great Arab family installed in Aragon since the times of the conquest, the generally called tuchibíes. These had received the mission from Córdoba to control Muhammad ben Lope. The Tuchibi chief, Abd al-Rahman ben Abd al-Aziz, with the full consent of the emir, established garrisons south of Zaragoza, in Cala-tayud and Daroca, and Muhammad realized that, if the tuchibís loyal to Córdoba wanted, they would make his life impossible. His situation was becoming unsustainable and the solution he took is, to say the least, picturesque.

He did not evacuate the city, nor did he surrender it since he could not sustain it. No. He preferred to sell it. And who did

he sell It to? Well, to the Umayyads, who had gone through so much to reconquer it, without achieve it! The sale was formalized between the Umayyad general Hashim ben Abd al-Aziz through Muhammad ben Lope's brother-in-law, the Count of Pallars. However, the Arab chroniclers do not agree. Generally, this is the version that seems most true, but there are also historians like Ibn Jaldún, who say that Zaragoza was besieged and taken by storm.

The truth is that, from that moment, the city of the Ebro passed into Umayyad obedience, and in its government, representatives faithful to Córdoba succeeded until... six years later the Tuchibíes are the ones who rise to power on the Upper March!

The Banu Qasi left the public scene, but history has wanted keep their name, and if I am not misinformed, a town of Castellò, Benicasim, almost a perfect adaptation of Ben Qasi or Banu Qasi, maintains the name of that family for more than a thousand years.

ohh it's actually pretty interesting, I once thought about it, so here are some of my thoughts:

Basically, my assumptions/headcanons are based on facts taken from the original movies and tales.

We don't know much about MC's world, but judging by some grains of information, their world is either like ours or is definitely our world. For now, I stop at the second statement.

Riddle Rosehearts

Alice in Wonderland was written by an English writer, so I see him being from the United Kingdom, England and probably having Received Pronunciation. But I'd definitely like to hear him speak in Cockney 🤭

Leona Kingscholar

Hmm, it's the difficult one. The Lion King takes place in Africa, but what African country could possibly Leona be from? Idk, but maybe it's either the Republic of South Africa (RSA) or Seychelles. The former country was the first one that came to my mind and the latter — I can explain: in the game, Leona and Rook both are from Afterglow/Sunset Savanna, and Rook's ability to speak French gave me an idea that maybe Leona knows this language a little too. And French is if not widespread but at least speakable in Africa, so Seychelles can be a country both of them could be from since French is speakable there too.

Azul Ashengrotto

Denmark. The original fairy tale was written by a Danish writer. Thus, it's naturally I think that Azul would be from Denmark, and Jade and Floyd apparently too.

The original Aladdin is a Middle-Eastern tale. So Kalim (and Jamil) could be from one of the Middle-Eastern countries. Hmm, maybe The United Arab Emirates (UAE)? From what I have heard/read, it's a prosperous and rich country. Kalim could be from a rich family, whose parents work in the oil and gas industry or something.

His last name leads one to think that he could be from a German-speaking country. And since the original fairy tale, Snow White is a German fairy tale and was published by German writers, and I think that he could be from Germany (wow!). I would give anything to hear him speaking German 👉👈

On Wednesday, the Algerian ambassador in Bamako was summoned by the Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Algiers was accused of holding meetings with Tuareg separatists without involving the Malian authorities.

Bamako summoned the Algerian ambassador "to voice a strong protest" from Mali "following the recent unfriendly acts by the Algerian authorities, under the guise of the peace process", according to an official Malian press release.[...]

Algiers argued that recent meetings with the leaders of the signatory movements of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali resulting from the Algiers process were "perfectly in line with the letter and spirit" of this appeal. Mr Attaf called on the Malian government to "join Algeria's current efforts" to "give new impetus" to the peace agreement signed in Algiers in 2015.

Morocco is trying to mend diplomatic ties with Mali and Niger. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, met on Saturday, December 22 in Marrakech on the sidelines of the ministerial coordination meeting on the international initiative of King Mohammed VI to promote access of the Sahel countries to the Atlantic, with his Malian counterpart, Abdoulaye Diop. An initiative, launched by the Sovereign, during his speech on November 6. Diop's presence at the meeting is highly symbolic, given the recent tense episode between Algiers and Bamako.

The recent crisis gives Rabat an unbeatable chance to strengthen ties with the Sahelian country. France and Algeria, who had excluded the Kingdom in 2014 from the reconciliation process in this country, have lost their influence with the authorities who have ruled Bamako since the coup d'Etat of August 2020. Thus, the French army, present in Mali since Operation Serval, launched in January 2013, was forced by the military in power to leave the country in August 2022.[...]

Two weeks ago, Radio Algérie accused, based on information from «sources close to the matter», the United Arab Emirates and Morocco «of creating a climate of tension between Algeria and the countries of the Sahel», in particular «Mali and Niger in order to sell the idea that it is Algeria that finances the destabilization of these two brother countries».

King Mohammed VI made two visits to Mali in 2013 and 2014.

Battle of al-Buqaia 1163 A.D.

In the Battle of al-Buqaia in 1163, the Crusaders and their allies inflicted a rare defeat on Nur ad-Din Zangi, the Emir of Aleppo and Damascus. King Amalric I led the army of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, together with contingents from the northern Latin states, a substantial body of pilgrims who had just arrived from France, and a force brought by the Byzantine governor of Cilicia. For the Christian forces, this victory only gave a brief respite from the sustained Muslim offensive.

Nur ad-Din proved to be one of the most dangerous enemies the Frankish kingdom had ever faced. Starting out as Emir of Aleppo, he steadily increased his territory at the expense of his Muslim and Latin neighbors, until he gained the great city of Damascus in 1154. He seriously defeated the Crusaders at the Battle of Lake Huleh in 1157, but fell very ill immediately afterward. This event allowed the Franks a chance to recover and, with the help of Thierry of Alsace and an army of pilgrims, to capture Harim castle later in the year. However, an attack on Shaizar failed when Reynald of Châtillon, the Prince of Antioch, quarreled with the other Franks. Consequently, Shaizar soon became the property of Nur ad-Din. In 1158, Thierry and King Baldwin III beat Nur ad-Din at Butaiha, northeast of Tiberias. The year 1160 saw the capture of Reynald, who spent the next 16 years in Nur ad-Din's dungeons. In December 1161, the Byzantine Emperor Manuel I Comnenus married Maria of Antioch and this event gave Antioch a strong protector in the emperor.

Both Amalric and Nur ad-Din soon became aware of the weakness of Fatimid Egypt, whose government had fallen into a state of decay. After the assassination of Caliph al-Zafir and a series of palace coups, Shawar seized power in 1162, was soon deposed, and appealed to Nur ad-Din for help. Neither the Latin king nor the Muslim emir could afford to let the other capture the rich prize of Egypt. Accordingly, Nur ad-Din sent his lieutenant Shirkuh with an army to support the Egyptian vizier.

While Shirkuh campaigned in Egypt, Nur ad-Din mounted an offensive in Lebanon. Following Latin policy, King Amalric took an army to support his northern vassals, Bohemund III of Antioch and Raymond III of Tripoli. Fortuitously, a large group of French pilgrims led by Hugh VIII of Lusignan and Geoffrey Martel, the brother of William IV of Angoulême, joined the king of Jerusalem. In addition, Konstantinos Kalamanos, the governor of Cilicia brought his Greek warriors to assist the Crusaders. Nur ad-Din was no match for such a formidable combination of enemies and his army suffered a defeat near al-Buqaia (located between Krak des Chevaliers and Beqaa Valley, in modern-day Akkar District, Lebanon). Both Muslims and Franks were impressed by the fighting qualities of the Byzantine soldiers. The negative result of al-Buqaia only made Nur ad-Din more keen for revenge.

Anyway I promised I wouldn't leave y'all hanging sooooo here's a little short story about how this personal guard thing came about

Prince Ivan paced back and forth in his private chamber, a furrow etched deep into his brow. He knew he had to make a decision, one that would not only safeguard the kingdom but also ensure the protection of his beloved, $name. Recent events had unveiled a hidden world of mystery and danger that threatened their peaceful realm.

With a heavy sigh, Ivan summoned General Idris, one of the kingdom's most trusted and capable warriors. General Idris arrived promptly, his armor polished to a gleam, his demeanor as stern and composed as always.

"You wished to speak with me?" General Idris inquired, his gaze never leaving Ivan's eyes.

Ivan nodded, his expression grave. "Yes, Idris. There's been hints that we are facing an unprecedented threat—one that touches upon the very heart of our kingdom."

General Idris's posture stiffened, his instincts as a guardian on high alert. "Please, go on."

Ivan took a moment to collect his thoughts. "I have been considering the safety of $name. It's become clear that she possesses a unique connection to this threat, one that puts her in danger. I need someone I can trust to protect her."

General Idris nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "Of course, Ivan You have my unwavering loyalty."

Ivan appreciated the general's dedication but knew that this task was unlike any other. "This assignment, General, is not just about skill and loyalty. It requires a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding $name's situation."

General Idris raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. "What do you suggest, Your Highness?"

Ivan paused, considering his next words carefully. "I propose that you become $name's personal guard. You will not only protect her physically but also guide her through the challenges that lie ahead. You will need to understand the enigmatic forces at play, as well as the emotions that this situation stirs within her."

General Idris's face remained stoic, but Ivan could see a hint of concern in his eyes. "I am honored by your trust, Your Highness. I will do everything in my power to protect and support $name."

Ivan nodded, his expression filled with gratitude. "Thank you, Idris. I know this is a demanding task, but I believe you are the right person for it."

With their decision made, Ivan and General Idris set out to discuss the plan in detail.

(Apologies to all, my oc Eva (from my other blog @evita-shelby ) has tossed me in the trunk and decided she wants to exist in some form in the last kingdom)

Also Osferth was passed on as Alfred’s maternal kinsman by him and was allegedly named heir after Edward's son in a will charterd in 909. I took some liberties with that, also Osferth was given a pretty good inheritance.

The Kingdom of León is modern day Leon and Castile in northern spain, at the time most of the Iberian Peninsula was ruled by the Emirate of Córdoba)

“He is a monk!” Your mother exclaimed in disgust. "And an honest one, really, daughter, I would have preferred a Dane."

You had expected them to be angry for going out of your way to get a husband, but then again, your family was not at all like the others.

“He is second in line for King Alfred’s throne, my love. His belief in god can be excused for now.” Your father pinched the bridge of his nose as his wife fumed over the match. “A cold or a hunting accident could make your daughter Queen of Wessex.”

“You had no qualms on having them as guests these past nights.” You interject having inherited your mother’s stubborn streak and your father takes that as is cue to leave on the excuse of checking on some buisness or the other.

“That is because guests leave, besides you know well why I am opposed to this match.” Your mother countered. “What would happen if he came to discover what we are?”

You are witches, your mother had come from a long line of them before the family fell from grace in the Kingdom of León and were sold into slavery.
