In the spirit of Halloween, I thought it would be fun to post an old AU that I was inspired to make before S3 aired based off the ragtag group that is the Coven Heads.

So before Thanks to Them aired, I got the wildest thought on a possible "What If" about the fate of the Coven Heads with The Collector being freed. Long story short, thought it would be a cruel twist of fate if they ended up cursed like Eda because The Collector, going to call them T.C. for now, wanted to make them more "fun" for the "Owl House" game.

Essential, when the kids came back they ended up going to Eda place and are ambushed by a fully Cursed Raine which. After Luz finds one of Eda potions still hidden in the house, Raine tells them what happened while they were gone. One resolution battle later with T.C. and Belos, it's now up to the kids to find the other heads and change them back cause, per Eda, no one deserves to lived trapped in their own bodies.

Half a season worth of adventures later to find and revert the heads back to their original forms, with no cure for being cursed discovered yet despite T.C. powers, Eda and Lilith takes it upon themselves to teach them how to lived their new lives.

Some rough sketches of what their "hybrid" forms look like once they harmonized with their curse beasts.

Raine curse beast is a "vampire" bat and the kids find them in Eda place cause they sought out a place of safety after transforming. Their compromise with the beast is to drink blood every so often, much to their disgust. Is granted night vision and flight when in hybrid form.

Darius curse beast is a kraken and the kids find them in the sea. Refused to fight Hunter, so the kids used that to their advantage to defeat them. Their compromise with the beast is to do long soaks in sea water, to his annoyance cause "sea water is horrible for his skin". Is granted the ability to breath under water and a octopus ability to squeeze into small places.

Eberwolf curse beast is a manticore and was found near Darius cause, despite being lost in their own mind they still sought out their friend/brother. Was the fastest to compromise with their curse cause they didn't mind eating raw meat. Is granted a prehensile "leech tail, alongside increased strength and speed in their hybrid form.

Adrian curse beast is a spynx and the kids find him in an abandoned theater/castle since some part of him still wanted to be near civilization. The only head who has a beast who the kids can understand in full curse form. Takes the longest to compromise with their beast cause they both have massive ego's, and the fact that Adrian does not want to read a whole philosopher book or eat rats. Is granted flight and increased cat like reflexes.

Terra curse beast is a giant snake, and the kids find her in an overgrown forest caused by her magic still being "active". Her compromise with the beast is to eat live animals and daily sunbathing. Her hybrid form turns her into a Lamia similar to a boa constrictor.

Vitimir curse beast is a mosquito/dragon hybrid and is found buzzing around a cliff face where Hettie curse form also resided. Their compromised with their cursed beast is to drink blood. Their hybrid form grants them flight, a needle tongue, and the ability to store liquids in a "throat sack" that they then can use to spray people with boiling/noxious liquids.

Hettie curse beast is a minotaur and is found in a cave on a cliff. Her compromised involved her eating raw meat. Her hybrid form grants her increase strength and improved sense of hearing and smell.

Mason curse beast is a lava golem and is found in a basin where they were literally melting the surrounding area where they walked. Matt and Steve have to help turn him back to normal. His compromise with his beast is to eat rocks/stones and sunbathing. His hybrid forms allows him to manipulate heat and create magma from the rocks he consumes.

Osran curse beast form is a giant spider and is found deep in a cave. His compromised with his beasts involves eating insects. His hybrid forms grants extra mobility, armor like chitin, web making from his snot (much to his chagrin), and improved night vision.

Panthers are actually a perfectly traditional choice of alternate vampire form (see the book Carmilla, it predates Dracula by some years)

Hettie is not based on Carmilla, but she is a Victorianesque lady vampire and she doesn't like all the vampire stuff much so having a panther form seems like a no brainer. Her branch of the family is very traditional so this is like a 'Ha, you can't say anything!' move.

However. Lots and lots of people have not read Carmilla and are just freaked at a frikkin' panther landing on their balcony.

I was going to post the Stollenheim family tree but it is not updated to show Hettie so I'll try fix that and post it at some point.

What we know about Mad Hettie

Okay... Here's what we know about Hettie AKA Mad Hettie. Hettie was born in 1741. She self-identifies as a haruspex. The term comes from Ancient Rome but based on Hettie's self-professed age she is NOT from Ancient Rome. Carnival Row fans might recognize the word Haruspex. It's a type of witch who is able to predict the future or get psychic visions and omens from examining the entrails of dead animals.

Most of us were introduced to her in issue 3 of The Sandman comics. (Chapter 3 of The Sandman audio drama).

In Death: The High Cost of Living Mad Hettie tells us that she hid her heart from Death and this is why she is immortal however there is nothing to confirm that this is really why she is immortal. It is just what she believes is the reason she is immortal. And casual observation of Hob Gadling believing that he is immortal because he "refuses to die" (much like the belief of Fred Saberhagen's version of Dracula) tells us that his belief is not actually the reason he does not die.

Mad Hettie's claim that she hid her heart from death mirror's a folktale called The Heartless Giant. This is not to be confused with The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde (referecned in The Sandman: The Doll's House in Funland's dream). A version of The Heartless Giant can be found in Jim Henson's The Storyteller (Which Neil Gaiman has been working on a revival of). Mad Hettie's psychic abilities seem to be affirmed by her very first conversation in The Sandman where she tells John Constantine (Johanna Constantine in The Sandman Netflix series) that "He's back." And she specifically says Morpheus by name and his role as The Sandman. Mad Hettie has appeared in other comics including The Books of Magic and Hellblazer.

My headcanons on the coven heads (pt. 3)

-Terra has been trying to teach Eberwolf witchlish (yes, that is what I have chosen to call the boiling isles language.) for years now. He has yet to utter a single word.

-Osran has everyone’s footsteps memorized. Adrian’s heels barely ever touch the ground despite him wearing flats, Hettie walks deathly quiet for someone of her size, and Vitmir’s style of movement can only be described as ‘slinking’.

-Raine and Adrian, despite the fact that Adrian is constantly belittling Raine, make a surprisingly good team, especially on stage, Adrians confidence making up for Raines stage fright and Raines music making up for Adrians lack of talent. -Hettie has a sweet tooth. No one knows if the jar sitting on her desk is full of candy or medicine, and the fact that she routinely offers it to coworkers doesn’t help their question.

-Vitmir blends his idioms, much to his coworkers amusement. Their favorite phrase so far is “you opened this can of worms, now lie in it!”

-Adrian is, quite literally, a half-a-witch. His mother was a witch, and his father was a type of sea demon known simply as serpents. Serpents are vaguely related to greater basilisks, resembling them greatly, however they have a whole different set of abilities, such as being immune to boiling water and having gills. Adrian has gills, but wears a concealment stone over them.

-Eberwolf and Terra agree on one thing and one thing only: the construction coven must be kept in check. This is literally the only thing they get along with each other for, any friendly interactions they’ve had has been in some way protecting the wilds from development.

-The covenheads have an old dart board they sometimes use when they get bored. Hettie is banned from using said dartboard not because of the seven deaths, but because she’s too accurate and always wins.

Hettie seems like she would have been an amazing character and I am sad it had to be cut. 

That’s what I love about The Owl House. You would expect the Healing and Plant Coven Heads to be the rebels against Belos because they have kind, gentle souls, right? Nope! They are both ruthless in their goals and will hurt others to further their own goals. 

Then you have Darius, whose magic runs off making mindless, obedient servants, and Eberwolf, who is the beast keeper. You would think they would be loyal? That they would thrive off power over others? Nope they have been against Belos for a long time and, while they can slip into gray morality, are ultimately good people who wanted to help everyone. 

The Owl House, subverting expectations, and I love it.

As head of the Healing Coven she's called in for the worst of the worst cases but she also likes to do rounds in the Emperor Coven Clinic to make sure her students are doing the proper procedures. (She's the only one allowed to do medical malpractice after all) She meets you by chance on one of these clinic walks and falls in love with you during that first appointment. Hettie is definetly a doctor who misuses and abuses her power.

She devotes herself to your health and your health alone. Getting your yearly shots? Doing physical exams? Got injured on a mission? Just a simple checkup? Oh, you’re dizzy and tired? Don’t worry, love it’s a common side effect. Why don’t you have a lie down in her doctors office? Don’t worry Hettie would never let anything happen to you.

Just Hettie who has so much knowledge about witch and demon anatomy. So she doesn't hesitate to create an air bubble in one of your friend’s IV so that they die a painless and untraceable death. So she can be by your side and be your support while you’re grieving and mourning. After all Hetties your doctor but she's also your friend. This must be hard for you why don't you just let her take care of it? Why don't you just collapse into her arms and let her comfort you for awhile? Oh you must be so exhausted. That's alright just sleep, your doctor will take care of everything.

Hettie after she decides to keep you gives you a wrong diagnosis to bring you closer to her. A disease that won't kill you but is still super dangerous and needs constant supervision. She does this so that you have to keep coming back to her, so that she can have constant private check ups and appointments. She also does this so that you're forced to get closer to her. After all your health could be in danger and she's the only one who can help you.

Hettie putting you up in a private room in the castle. She personally checks up on you so that none of her nurses or covenheads can know how she touches you. How she also does this because she doesn't want anyone else to see you. She wants you to be all hers.

Just Hettie having you holed up in this comfy room in the castle somewhere. Quarantined and distanced from everyone else. Making you touch starved and dependent on her for your social and emotional needs. Touching you more intimately than necessary while she checks your body for ailments and wounds, her large hands wandering your sides and pressing a little harder to get closer with her medical tools. Her eyes are hidden but you always feel them on you, always feel the intensity of her clinical observations. But never being allowed to see your medical chart or getting an exact answer on what's wrong.

Hettie is ABSOLUTLEY obsessed with your body, your anatomy, and your medical history. She studies your past files extensively and spends nights reading all about your past doctor visits. The information is so intimate to her and she's memorized every detail.

Eventually she'll open you up to see your insides, to see the heart that beats so beautifully inside of you, the organ that controls everything. She lies and manipulates to force you into surgical procedures for her own morbid curiosity about your body and how it works. Maybe doing something to affect your bile sack so you become a magicless witch or parlaying your legs so she has to carry or wheel you around.

Hettie pumping you full of different drugs so that you’re pliant and willing for whatever she does to you. Experimenting with dosage and type and writing down various notes as you have side effects, finding out which drugs work best and which drugs are the worst. No longer able to medically advocate for yourself and just trusting her because she's your doctor and she'll make you better. She's your friend and she cares about you. And you do believe you'll get better. After all she is the best doctor in the Boiling Isles.
