I feel like there's something to be said about the way fandom will treat characters who's trauma they can personally relate to Vs characters who they cant

#like obviously fandom has a thing against unpalatable victims regardless of where their trauma is from #but like #people tend to be way more understanding and compassionate to trauma that they can personally relate to or comprehend #in narutos case: #naruto struggled academically and was bullied as a child. he was alone and neglected on an emotional/domestic level #people can relate to aspects of his character despite the fantasy stuff of being a human sacrifice and part of the military and tend to car #alot more about his struggles #on the other hand the uchiha are discriminated against. sasuke is the sole survivor of ethnic cleansing/genocide. that is not something mos #people could even fathom the pain and trauma of. i mean its fucking /genocide/. and ontop of that he was essentially mind raped by his #brother. the person who he loved the most who betrayed him #and is still expected to function in a society that provides no support and continues to objectify him for his clans desirable traits #i feel like atla is also a good example #people can relate to and sympathize with the parental abuse and inadequacy/anger issues zuko deals with. and are forgiving when it comes to #his redeption arc #but when you take a character like jet. who has trauma in loosing his entire village/community and taking on a caretaker role to other #war orphans. thats not exactly a regual occurrence the average person can personally understand. his trauma is directly related to the war #and so despite him doing WAYY less shitty things than zuko. his is still demonized by the narrative. killed off and then mocked #and the fandom largely saw nothing wrong with this outcome #hama is in a similar bag but she also has the whole 'exploding apartments of pregnant women' distraction tactics added onto her #cause just showing colonialism and forced assimilation and fucking SLAVERY is bad on its own isnt enough ig #psii.txt #slavery mention #genocide mention #rape mention

You know Henriette is lowkey kind of anime (like the SuMo anime) Lusamine-core. To me

idk where I'm going with this but this little tidbit did make me think of the unpredictably of Sayuri's punches. in professional fighting, south paws (left hand) are seen as wildcards because it comes quick, sudden, fast enough that the opposing fighter cannot tell. which makes her being ambidextrous even more lethal, no one really knows from which hand she will strike, this does not take into account her usage of kickboxing / grappling as well. thus, a great reminder, her subhuman strength was uniquely honed entirely by herself with the usage of cursed energy && throughout physical training. she does qualify as naturally talented fighter, this is without the kobayashi's influence, that only grants her a skillset uniquely trained for assassination. yes, sayuri is a special grade primarily for tsukuyomi though, her strength could have easily capitulated her into another category, along with her mental constitution which many fighters attribute to being stronger than the body.

i still can't get over how in the blue shadow virus arc of the clone wars, after a bunch of people were exposed to a dangerous virus, anakin arrived on the planet and ignored both his men (who he is legally responsible for as their commanding officer) and, even worse, ahsoka (his padawan who he is legally responsible for because she is a minor), so that he could run straight to padme's side....

never mind the fact that padme had a hazmat suit for a long while to protect her against the virus, while his men and ahsoka had been exposed for virtually the entire time and were significantly worse off than padme. like padme was still conscious at the time of the rescue, while ahsoka was completely down for the count long before that. never mind the fact that anakin was in contact with them both the entire time and absolutely knew that his padawan was out here struggling ten times more than his wife:

anakin's so absorbed in checking on padme that he doesn't even think to ask about his padawan or his men. it's padme who has to bring up ahsoka, who's being brought in on a different stretcher! only then does he even remember she exists, because even his own padawan is a mere afterthought compared to padme for him!

once she does, anakin does go to ahsoka's side, and he does a good job of reassuring and praising her. when he tries, he can be a pretty good mentor. but that's the key phrase: when he tries. and this episode makes it abundantly clear that if padme is in any amount of danger, even if it's a fraction of the danger that ahsoka is in, he will not try until someone else reminds him.

oh and and all while that's happening, obi-wan is the only one actually sitting with the troops!!!! even though they're anakin's troops!!

anyways prioritizing your wife, an actual adult, over the child in your care who was in significantly more danger, to the point that you have to be reminded of said child's existence, is.... not a great look. it certainly reflects how anakin's fixation on padme has become this all-encompassing thing.

these scenes are all around minute 20 of season 1 episode 18 by the way. check it out yourself, because it's absolutely bonkers.
