It is currently the 23rd of October, 2022 at 9:31 am. It's getting close to Halloween and my exams are over (thank god), so why not make a couple of new entries that are related to spooky Garfield media? I'm planning a special one on Spooky Day ;) It is also day #157 of my Jon Arbuckle hyperfixation.

When you put the words "spooky" and "Garfield" together, what might you think of? R/imsorryjon may come to mind, or perhaps Lumpy Touch's disturbing Garfield pixel animations ring a bell with you. When I think of spooky Garfield stuff, one of the first things that comes to mind is ZALGO, an age-old internet phenomenon known for it's mysterious ways of corrupting innocent comics and cartoons with its ungodly presence.

ZALGO works in strange ways. Lurking in the furthest corners of comic panels, no one knows what he truly looks like. He comes when one merely utters his name. His presence is forboding and mysterious and it is often represented by blackened or empty eyes, sharp tendrils, a long uncanny screech and the general corruption and disfigurement of the body of whomever he corrupts. And because of his everlasting presence in comics and cartoon media, it would only make sense that he would grasp the world of Garfield and his friends in his clutches.

I believe one of the very first ZALGOfield strips was this one (seen below) in which his presence is portrayed by the signature blackened eyes before Cthulu himself portrudes from Garfield's body in a match of saying cursed-ass ritualistic like phrases known for summoning the darkness inside us all. Though this is one of the first ZALGOfied strips, ZALGO himself actually originates from two 'Nancy' and 'Archie' strips posted on the SomethingAwful forums by a user named Shmorky! I can't believe I had to use fucking KnowYourMeme to find that info...

As someone who used the internet a lot back in the late 2000s and 2010s, ZALGO is something that.... definitely has a place in my heart.... I was a huge fan of creepypasta as a kid and I remember first hearing about ZALGO from a TatsTop10 video about non-gaming creepypastas and something about how ZALGO had an everlasting presence among several media intrigued me. Something about how much of an unstoppable entity of chaos he is and how the poor suckers that succumb to his force become a sort of messenger of his presence creeps me out. And I love it! His connection to Garfield is interesting because it adds yet another layer to the ever growing subgenre of Garfield shitpostery. The corruption of innocence and reign of chaos that is almost indescribable to me, I guess what I'm trying to say is that ZALGO is one of my favourite kinda of internet and Garfield horror because he's so indescribable. When you put a face on ZALGO as an entity, the immersion all breaks. But when you put ZALGO on the face of another entity, his reign of chaos and destruction is expanded. It's so freaky.

Garfield and Jon are something that's special to me and dear to my heart, and so to see them so violently corrupted and quite literally torn apart is so creepy. It's uncanny, unhuman. To see something you love be destroyed and twisted and mangled into this harbinger of chaos and corruption is unsettling and it's so freaking COOL!!! Out of any Garfield horror and general internet horror, ZALGO is a favourite of mine. He's just so... mysterious and chaotic. I could go on and on, but I'd just be repeating myself at that point. So, in conclusion...

Z̷A̵L̷G̵O̸ is an unstoppable force of destruction. Z̶̯͘A̶͍͑L̵̝͐G̴̊ͅŌ̶͓ is the representation of all that is lost when innocence dies. Z̶̨̛̙̍A̸̝̹̍Ĺ̴̡G̵̼̚̕Ö̶͎̪́̽ is the very being that toys with our psyche, breaking it at the very utterance of his name. Z̸͖̳̮̊̎̚A̶̲͙̟̐̐̄L̴̲̮̲͝͠G̸͈͒Ŏ̴̗ is the fabric of chaos. Ź̶͕̑̇A̶̙̽̂̋͛L̶̫̼̹̥̉͗̈͆Ģ̵̛̠͍̍͌͠O̷͚͗̚ is the legacy, Z̸̧̨̙̹͐̈A̸̱̖͕͉͑́̂L̶̢̟̫̬̹͠Ǵ̸̛̛͈͎̫͆ͅO̸̢̓͗̄ will persist. Z̸̛̗̲̀̓̔̀Ȃ̵̘̩̻̩ͅĻ̸̣̮̩̈́̿̑͘Ĝ̸͇̪̣̠̅̇Ǫ̸͍̍͌ is the demon that comes when you call his name. Z̵̩͇̜̼̍̂̐̎̈̉̆ͅǍ̶̟̞̻̳̫̐́̓͂͒͑L̷̖̻̰̮̤̈̑̕͜Ḡ̷͖͗̈́Ờ̵̜̓ has imprinted himself into the panels of our beloved cartoons and there is nothing you can do to stop him.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT????
