Once, a cluster of vague, abstract shapes on the inside of his upper left arm. They were silhouettes of his children's horns, one shape for each orphan he kept at his side. They were entirely lost after Praetorium. Nothing remains of the marks on his left side.

ⅩⅣ under his left pectoral, gained after he was promoted to Legatus at around 34 or 35. It is just large enough to be covered by his palm. As his oldest tattoo, the letters are blurry with age, and become nigh indistinguishable as any language after being badly burned in the Praetorium.

Six bullets down the right side of his torso, starting at his ribcage and continuing down his waist. They are most often hidden by his arm, even when shirtless. Not all of them are alike, representing the different make and size of ammunition each gun needed, and are unevenly spaced, leaving room for the kills he made with a blade. Those are not illustrated: they need not be, as he still carries the three blades to this day. Those closer to his armpit are older and have become fuzzy with age, but the ones nearing his waist and hip are still crisp and relatively new.

A thorned black rose. The thicket of thorns and vines cover a great deal of his shoulders, with the flower itself placed roughly where his heart would be, slightly off-center and to the left. This tattoo was not mechanically curated: it was stick-n-poke, Valdeaulin's artistry, created by hand over many, many hours. Despite this, it was not his first attempt at tattooing another. His tribe of Duskwights used body art as a way of creating a vow, usually for marriage or life-long promises, and he did just the same with his captive after rescuing him from Praetorium's collapse. The mess of thorns and the solitary flower are a nod to the noose Valdeaulin has 'round Gaius's existence, should he misstep yet again.

A collection of four chrysanthemum flowers, leaves and all, climb up the back of his right ankle, flourishing on his lower calf. It is his newest tattoo and the only one in color, each flower a different shade. It sits atop an old scar received from shrapnel that tore into his achilles tendon, and would be the explanation he would give if a stranger inquired. However, they are a living memorial: a flower for each of the children he could not bury, a flower for each grave he could not visit. (Chrysanthemums represent many things among different cultures, and were often intended to provide protection to those who passed in Garlemald, an attempt to keep the dead's spirit from becoming a Reaper's avatar.)

Hello Good Morning/Afternoon, I LOVE your art and the description of your books. Seriously. As someone who is about to buy your books, what order do you recommend I read them in?

I see there is the release order of the series meaning:

Stormbite/Silverbird/Sirroco/Gregale/Broken Arrow

Or there is the wiki timeline of the currently released Compass then currently released Storms.

For a first read I didn't know whether you would reccomend reading your earlier books in release order to learn your writing style or just to follow the timeline that has been set up.

I'm not really sure how tumblr works so if there's something I've done wrong I do apologise, I just wanted to thankyou for all of your art and effort. Lore Heavy to Acompanying Light Lore:

My Other Conlang

I've talked about Léna and Kkeṛhaqom on this blog, but never mentioned my most fleshed-out conlang, Rhodian. You can read all about it here but in short, it's a fictional Romance language heavily influenced by Doric Greek.

Anyway, I've been translating my favourite novel, The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet into it, and this has been my favourite paragraph so far. The first paragraph of chapter 2 is as follows:

Translation: Living in space was anything but quiet. Grounders never expected that. For anyone who had grown up planetside, it took some time to get used to the clicks and hums of a ship, the ever-present ambiance that came with living inside a piece of machinery. But to Ashby, those sounds were as ordinary as his own heartbeat. He could tell when it was time to wake by the sigh of the air filter over his bed. When rocks hit the outer hull with their familiar pattering, he knew which were small enough to ignore, and which meant trouble. He could tell by the amount of static crackling over the ansible how far away he was from the person on the other end. These were the sounds of spacer life, an underscore of vulnerability and distance. They were reminders of what a fragile thing it was to be alive. But those sounds also meant safety. An absence of sound meant that air was no longer flowing, engines no longer running, artigrav nets no longer holding your feet to the floor. Silence belonged to the vacuum outside. Silence was death.

Technically they are not his grandchildren - they are his apprentices, but Windstille treats them as if they were his own flesh and blood. They call him Grandfather as a sign of respect.

They are a small pack of Air ghouls, and they all are organists too. Windstille taught them to play and repair the church organs.

There are six of them: Talwind (he/him, the oldest of them), Khamsin (he/him), Gregale (he/him), Meltemia (she/her), Breeze (she/her, an OC of my friend), Levant (he/him, the youngest).

Whitehall Mansions is a five storey building located on the western shore of Msida Creek in Ta’ Xbiex, #Malta. The building is used as diplomatic offices by several countries including the British High Commission, embassies of Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Austria and Spain. IX-XATT TA’ TA’ XBIEX Ix-Xatt ta’ Ta’ Xbiex circumvents a hill where handsome villas overlook Marsamxett Harbour. When Napoleon’s French forces locked themselves inside the capital in 1798, Ta’ Xbiex was one of the sites from where the Maltese would keep their eyes and ears on the French invaders.   HMS GREGALE & THE WRNS On th 29th of September 2007 the Coastal Forces Heritage Trust, in co-ordination with the Ta’ Xbiex Local Council, remembered the men and women of the Royal Navy and Allied Coastal Forces who were based at HMS Gregale during the Second World War.   HMS Gregale consisted of Four Villas on the Ta’ Xbiex Terrace, one of which served as Headquarters for Captain Coastal Forces. The garages under the ramp served as workshops and the Whitehall Mansions was the base for the WRNS (Women's Royal Navy Auxiliary) after WWII to 1972. PILATUS BANK Infamously involved in a series of European money-laundering cases, the now defunct Pilatus Bank was located in the second floor of the Whitehall Mansions. The bank’s license to operate was withdrawn by the European Central Bank in 2018 over money laundering allegations.  Pilatus Bank was launched in 2014 by, Seyed Ali Sadr Hasheminejad (Ali Sadr). Ali Sadr was arrested by the FBI on charges of breaching sanctions against Iran. Sadr was indicted in the U.S., but finally, the charges were dropped.
