[ leaves her a pumpkin pasta bake with rigatoni and a selection of greens ] ♡
super belated askbox fun with @lovehungered
oh, that smells absolutely divine. "oh my gosh," udyati says quietly, "sanji, thank you so much!" gentle hands take the meal. she takes one step forward, then, and reaches up on her tiptoes to press a kiss to his cheek. "this must've taken you a million years to make." or maybe a little less than that, seeing as he's a genius in the kitchen. "i---um, i just made some chai. would you want some? it's the least i can do to say thank you for being so thoughtful."

She thinks she needs some kind of 'stranger danger' whistle. One that'll reach all the way to the Academy. She'll take that up with Uncle Klaus and Nana the next time she sees them. She has to. Because oh my gosh. Udyati could take this white lady showing up unannounced. Sure, it's kinda rude. But the fact that she's not taking her shoes off?!
That grieves her.
Because the lady doesn't look like she's raised in a barn.
And yet.
"Ms Rao will be fine, ma'am." Anything to keep as much distance between them as possible. And besides, most white people can't pronounce her first name properly, anyway.
You can call me the Handler.
Immediately, her blood runs cold. She may not be as book smart as other people but this? This she can piece together. I'm an old friend of Number Five's. A very good friend.
She also knows that she won't be fast enough to open a door to wherever Uncle Klaus or Nana are. And she can't take the Handler one on one, either. Not without destroying her house. Or hurting the neighbors. (Some of them are very annoying but even they do not deserve a ghastly fate like that.)
"I see," Udyati answers softly, carefully. "And what might that proposal be?"
To tell the truth, the Handler would probably be astonished if Udyati Rao recognized her at a glance — the girl has apparently become a rather trusted companion of Number Five over the last few... however long it's been (weeks? months? years? Living on the outside of the timeline can certainly do some strange things to your personal perception of the temporal flow), but he's always been somewhat... lacking, to put it lightly, in communication skills, and it's probably safe to presume that they've experienced even more deterioration since he fled the Commission in his little fit of rebellion. Honestly, the stubborn old bastard could stand to be a bit more grateful toward her after everything she's done for him — it's not just any field agent who gets private, one-on-one lessons with her about such elementary concepts as eye contact, and facial expressions, and social cues, and physical touch.
Really, it's a wonder Ms. Rao even knows his name.
So, the Handler must be a complete and total stranger to the girl in front of her, and she forges ahead with this knowledge in mind, plastering on a smile and putting out a hand for a quick shake. "Sorry to drop in on you like this out of the blue, Ms. Rao—oh, would you prefer Ms. Rao, or Udyati?—but there's something I'd like to discuss with you, and I'm afraid this was the only empty slot in my schedule. You can call me the Handler, if you like," she breezes on, coolly confident as she always is. "I doubt he's told you much about me, but I'm... an old friend of Number Five's. A very good friend."
It would be exceedingly poor manners for her to come right out and say it — a lady doesn't fuck and tell, after all — but she's fairly certain Ms. Rao is more than sharp enough to read between the lines, catch the double meaning in the subtle, sensual curve of her scarlet smile.
"And I've got a marvelous proposal for you, dear."

"I do hope you stayed put long enough to observe the funeral rites afterwards? Otherwise that'd just be bad luck for them, you know? Getting shot on your wedding day and then you're not even seen into your next life properly? Ouch."
(Udyati likes to think her mom is fond of him, too. She pretends to be made of stone, but really, she's just a softie underneath all those layers.)
She runs a hand through her hair as she informs him of the time that the guests need to arrive.
"Well it certainly won't be a wet wedding. This isn't a Bollywood movie where everyone's gonna dance in the rain you know?" Also, she's unfamiliar with the term, but she's not gonna tell him that. Because that's stupid. She doesn't want to look stupid.
"There will be a bar, nana. And you will be able to sit at it. And they'll serve you drinks. We're not animals."
"For your information, I've already had the opportunity to attend an Indian wedding, actually," Five leans back against the wall behind him, arms folded firmly over his chest and head tipped up to stare at the ceiling so he can avoid Udyati's pleading eyes for as long as humanly possible. "November 29, 1982, Sri Lanka. Beautiful ceremony. Remarkable shahi paneer. The bride and the groom were really wonderful people. I shot them through the head that night."
He's pretty sure that cheerful little anecdote from his days in the Commission will scare Udyati off — funnily enough, most people don't typically want a former assassin too close to their family — but he has to admit, she's actually piquing his interest a bit with all this talk. And Five is rather fond of Ankita Rao, though he's certainly under no illusion that the feeling is mutual. He's dragged her daughter into more trouble than he can even remember, and he knows he wouldn't want his hypothetical children to have a bad influence like that in their lives.
The fact that Ud just casually puts him under her umbrella of friends and family without so much as a second of hesitation also isn't hurting her chances — though that's probably the point, isn't it? She's probably pulling out the big guns like that on purpose.
Five can respect some healthy manipulation from his favorite granddaughter every now and again.
"All right," he huffs out a heavy sigh and pushes off the wall to stand up straight, waving her off with a flick of a hand. "All right, I'll be there. What time do the guests need to arrive?" And then a far more pressing thought occurs to him — he's not going to get properly drunk, or anything like that, but he's certainly not going to spend a couple of hours stone-cold sober in a room full of total strangers, either. Large crowds and no alcohol to take the edge off is one of his stupid hyperventilating in the bathroom episodes just waiting to happen. "Wait, hang on, is it a dry wedding? Do I need to bring my own tequila?"

very belated askbox holiday fun // @loetise my beloved
gentle hands take the dainty pot with the baby cactus in it. "wow! it's got a tiny pink bow and a ribbon and everything! does it have a name? or can i be the one to name it? no, wait, maybe you should name it! we kinda have that joint custody thing going on, right?"
as soon as one of her hands is free, udyati gives allie a sideways hug and drops a kiss on her hair. "thank you for always thinking of me." one day she will have all the words to describe just how much allie means to her.

𝐌𝐘 𝐀𝐑𝐓: a space girl & her pirate .
I’d only just finished Ud’s piece when I saw the ask you sent me and I just wanna say, while I’m insanely hopeless at staying in contact and answering messages, I think about these two at least once a week. Ud is such an incredible character and is insanely desirable, not just as an ally or friend, but also as a partner. She’s incredible, and the connection between her and Harry transcending the multi-verse and all the spaces in-between makes me so happy. Happy New Years!
