@linaket thanks for tagging me in the 7 & 7 game, and welcome to the community! I appreciate being tagged in games, just so long as you don’t mind that I’m slow to answer XD.
Rules: Post 7 lines (or paragraphs, or whatever!) of your WIP, then tag 7 people!
Here’s seven paragraphs from the short story I’m working on called “The Art of Perception” that is now too long for the publication I wanted to send it to:
All of Vesper’s many eyes narrowed.
“What form did you have in mind, Haven.” They said gruffly. I didn’t really respond - I just held Grae up in front of Vesper’s face.
“No, absolutely not. You have got to be kidding me.” Vesper shifted away from me with exasperation. I knew they were vexed, but I felt like I was on to something.
“Does anyone have any better ideas?” I asked, looking around the circle. Shaun and Amarantha looked like they were thinking too hard in an attempt to think of a solution that wouldn’t offend Vesper so much. Vernitia just looked like she was trying not to laugh.
“Cease thinking. You are giving me a headache” Vesper grumbled.
“Vesper, think about it - what’s worse, being perceivable for a day, or possibly falling asleep in a cave and losing us forever?” Vesper’s groan pitched deeper for a prolonged amount of time.
“Oh come on Vesper, this cannot be that hard of a decision.” Vernitia said, rolling her eyes at them.
I don’t really know who are my mutuals that want to be tagged at this point (sorry) so if you see this and want to participate feel free to do so and tag me! if you do I’ll know who to tag in the future.

***The Top 10 Rap Albums/Projects of 2019*** are...
Tumblr media
At the end of the decade, the rap music genre finds itself with a more splintered and diverse fanbase than ever before. What did that mean for 2019? A push towards different styles which was balanced out by a strong grassroots revival of jazzy, soul-inspired sounds that echoed back to the heyday of the mid-to-late 90′s underground hip-hop scene.
In 2019, the lanes that travel more closely to what most would consider “mainstream” rap, struggled to find new inspiration without as much artistic direction to act as a template. This created a bit of a hole for some, as the absence of new material from Kendrick Lamar or Isaiah Rashad, or the disappointing reception to highly anticipated releases from the likes of Chance The Rapper, Schoolboy Q or Kanye West, left the gate open just wide enough to allow more Young Thug disciples, more aspiring Futures, and more cookie cutter “want to be the next Drakes” to flood your streaming platform.
But let us be clear: 2019 was still a great year for rap music because the underground feasted. Scroll further, and you will see that point made by my list of the best rap projects released in 2019 (and in some cases, releases that are amongst the decades best). I used the following criteria for this year’s list:
- the album/mixtape/EP/project/WHATEVER you want to call it had to be released by Dec. 20th, 2019 (arguably still way too soon to craft a well-informed review of an artists’ project)
- the project must have at least 6 songs (arguably still too small of a sample size to compare to lengthier projects)
- these rankings are a *combination* of my own personal preference, overall quality, and how the final product compares to other work from the artists’ peers that occupy the same lane/”sub-genre” of rap music
Regardless of how you feel about this list, I hope that you visit (or re-visit) any one of these pieces of strong work and find the same level of enjoyment that I did. I loved so much rap music this year and I could not be more excited about what the future holds. On a personal note, in 2019 I found myself even more in love with my wife, feeling luckier than I have in a long time, more satisfied with my hobbies and passions, and above all else, more in awe of my child (and anyone that ever raised a child) than ever before. I became a father for the first time in 2019, so as my baby daughter continues to fill my heart, I am beginning to wonder what she will think of her father’s love for this art form that has brought him so much joy over the years...I suppose time will tell.
Salute to these artists below and so many, many others. 🙏🙏🙏
Much love to all,
Jason, THE Rap Pundit
10. It Wasn’t Even Close - Your Old Droog
Tumblr media
Your Old Droog is a unique, stand alone artist - I want to make that larger point perfectly clear - but after I finished listening to Droog’s trio of terrific projects in 2019, and sat down to right this blurb, on It Wasn’t Even Close, I thought of three people (and not the one you think I’m going to say!): Royce Da 5′9″, MF DOOM, and Joe Pesci in Goodfellas.
I thought of Royce because more than any other artists, I think Royce and Droog both get dismissed as “punchline rappers” because of their punchline-heavy rhyme styles, but both make incredibly personal, perspective-driven music (not their fault you’re not listening closely enough). I also thought of DOOM because YOD is able to create an insular rap world with his projects that incorporate fantastic production ranging from off-the-wall to bleak as hell, paired with hard rhymes that can be both dope af and laugh out loud funny - but without the gunplay and drug dealer talk. And why Pesci?? Because it’s not always clear when Droog is going to come off with a well crafted joke, or a painful reveal of the dark thoughts behind the man...but that is what makes him such a compelling MC.
Of his three 2019 albums (Jewelry is not being acknowledged here because in the holiday shuffle I haven’t had any time to sit with it yet, but I like what I have heard thus far), the transportation themed and appropriately titled Transportation might show the most range as a song-maker, but it’s the relentless thump of It Wasn’t Even Close that lands a top 10 spot on my list. His recent work with Mach-Hommy seems to foster a free-wielding spirit in Droog, from surprise project releases to unpredictable themes. The bars come in great abundance throughout IWEC, and most of the finest moments from Droog come when he his dropping brilliant one-liners over production that does indeed point to the world being about to end (perhaps all too appropriate for the bizarre news feed that was 2019).
Your Old Droog has too much to say, too many thoughts to simply dumb down his lyrical content to create a focused song that just addresses one singular idea, so he makes the right choice on It Wasn’t Even Close to touch on as many of his manic thoughts as possible. Droog is like a great stand-up comedian that knows his audience and will do whatever he wants with his material because he knows that is one of the things that keeps his audience coming back, but within each joke is a revealing kernel of truth that should be taken seriously. Because whether you see it on stage or not, working stand-up comedians often dedicate themselves to comedy because there is no other way to harness all of the fast moving, often dark and uncomfortable thoughts in their head. I can’t say if that’s the case with Your Old Droog, but he is certainly an artist that raps with the sense of humor - and unexpectedly deep thinking - of a great stand-up.
9. Guns - Quelle Chris
Tumblr media
Circling back to my comment about 2019′s depressing news cycle in the above Your Old Droog post (can’t be a coincidence, given that Quelle, Droog and Hommy are all frequent collaborators), can you think of a more to-the-point and overdue rap album title for this moment in America’s history than Guns?
Quelle Chris can stake a claim as having one of the greatest under-appreciated catalogues in rap history. The gifted rapper and producer has blessed us with many great projects over the years, and he tends to excel at making a point without sacrificing the enjoyment factor of his music. Much like last year’s Everything’s Fine (his brilliant collaboration with fellow dope artist and wife Jean Grae), it’s his use of satire on Guns that prevents the project from dipping a toe too deeply into the gloom of the subject matter.  Guns is a wonderfully scored portrait of how the United States’ connection to violence fosters increasingly more violence, and the symbiotic relationship between violence and the tools that wield it. Quelle is not a gangsta rapper, and he does not support violence, but as a black man in this country and a rapper, he is pulled into a wide set of false assumptions. An artist like Quelle doesn’t avoid false assumptions or challenging subjects, he tackles them with a great deal of thought and care. Sure, Guns has some light-hearted moments, but at the rate that people are being shot and killed by guns in this country (especially the rate of black men and women, as wells as members of other minority groups), a successful satire is often one that leaves the audience sitting in reflective silence rather than uproarious laughter.
8. Hitler Wears Hermes 7 [HWH7] - Westside Gunn
Tumblr media
2019 was such a triumph for Griselda Records’ journey of doubling down on their sound rather than adapting, and reaching even higher profile success by doing so. While providing less controversial cover art on the 7th installment of his Hitler Wears Hermes series may be seen as a bit of a (increasingly necessary) compromise, the collective continues to sustain a steadily growing fanbase by keeping their music honest and gritty.
While not as grounded in the traditional as Westside Gunn’s FLYGOD, HWH7 provides a highly satisfying glimpse into the world of Griselda's impresario, the best example since Supreme Blientele. That means an indulgent dose of dusty soul samples, fashion trends, wrestling references, impeccable guest verses, and a general sense of fun-loving mayhem that could only be characterized by a representative of a shining underdog of a city with a scrappy chip on its' shoulder like Buffalo. Anyone that knows Buffalo New York knows that it's a city as filled with love as it is cold during frequently brutal winters. That's the type of town needed to shape a raw diamond like Gunn, who is as unpredictable with his rap cadence as he is respectful of the great MCs around him.
Westside Gunn and the whole Griselda gang provide a vibe that brings the best out of even the most experienced rap veterans (for example, I haven’t heard Fat Joe rap this well in years). Whatever their secret recipe for success has been (besides a relentless hustle and fresh talent), Hitler Wears Hermes 7 is another great example of how the collective’s energy is so contagious that established artists are eager to fall in line with their vision, Griselda doesn’t adapt to their guests. And can we finally end this ridiculous notion that Westside Gunn isn’t a dope MC in his own right? Don’t let the sharp rhyme skills of Conway and Benny distract from the fact that Gunn brings a real outside the box approach to how he attacks a beat, he’s as fly with his word choice as his fashion rep.
7. Eve - Rapsody
Tumblr media
Rapsody is a great rapper.
Not a great “female MC”, not a “good for a woman” rapper...so knock off that bullshit right now, it’s 2019 people (well, technically 2020 - but I meant to finish this whole post before the ball dropped, but I dropped the ball). :-/
Rapsody has been an underground darling for so long that I am not sure if you can technically refer to her as underground hip-hop artist anymore? Check the discography and you will see that the North Carolinian has quite an impressive list of good projects to her name - all of which helped build the revere that her peers feel towards her when they say her name. While she did not ask for cult status, she certainly inherited cult status as the MC that snippy underground heads like to point to whenever they feel like Nicki Minaj or Cardi B are receiving too much too soon. Of course this sentiment is completely unwarranted - and almost always driven by angst against a fanbase rather than the more famous artist his/herself - but it doesn’t stop the conversation from coming up again and again...so why doesn’t Rapsody have more mainstream success? Should she be mentioned in more conversations as one of the best rappers in the game? And should she be receiving more credit as a woman in a male-dominated genre of music that managed to build a fanbase without pumping more graphic sexuality into her music, or showing off her body?
Well, all the answers to these questions snake up to the same problem, because apart from gender, Rapsody, Nicki, Cardi, and Megan The Stallion all share something else in common: they’re all just trying to get their piece of the pie in a sexist industry (more like society - but that’s a much larger convo) and it’s 100% not their fault. Please try to understand that Rapsody is going to do what she does on a record, and Nicki will do the same, and to expect either artist to do the same type of record is as absurd as expecting Conway The Machine to make a Drake album. Whatever your gender identity may be, you are entitled to craft your sound to be as mainstream or underground as you want it to be, just do you.
So in a way, it would make sense that Rapsody would drop the best album of her career in a year where the mainstream rap scene was shallow, mostly unremarkable, and full of holes. I’m not at all saying that that’s the reason why she received more press off of Eve than on most of her previous works, but in a rare twist, industry trends did provide a bit of an assist in the publicity department. However, the acclaim for Eve has less to do with industry trends, and a lot to do with just how good the music is on this album.
Eve is a celebration of black women, but not as a “ladies night at the bar”, one time only rap album gimmick, but as a personal and informative album where every track is named after an influential woman of color, and the star of the album just happens to be a black woman that also hopes to be remembered as an influential woman of color. Eve is as much a braggadocious claim for respect from a dope MC as it is a humble diary of a veteran rap artist that’s still very much in her prime. The production choices range from intentional reinterpretations of the familiar, to fresh takes that successfully ride the line between what we would traditionally call “mainstream” or “underground”. At the end of the day, Rapsody’s Eve manages to start a conversation about the importance of black women in the history of the world, but while filling in the details with reminders that she deserves the respect of being treated as just another great MC.
6. Zuu - Denzel Curry
Tumblr media
There may not be a more important album reflecting the sound of a specific city in 2019 than Denzel Curry’s Zuu.
His ode to the Carol City neighborhood of Miami, Florida was a long time coming. Zuu would not have been possible had he not experimented with different approaches in the past. He has dabbled in the same woozy, screaming raves of his fellow Floridian peers, and flirted with expressionism (especially on his previous album, TA13OO), but it all really came together on Zuu. A loose, more casual approach to song crafting on this album built a city on a clean slate. Much in the same way that Juvenile and Mannie Fresh’s “Ha” painted as vivid a picture of the feeling of being in the Magnolia projects of New Orelans as any city homage in rap history, Denzel Curry deserves a ton of credit for collaborating with perfectly selected producers to capture a sound that feels as sweltering as Curry’s place of origin.
While Zuu could stand on atmosphere alone, Curry is also at his best as a MC on this album. His pen is hard at work here (even though he claimed this album did not come with much actual writing), and he showcases a control over his flow and a charisma that proves that he is a stand alone artist to stay glued to moving forward. While the production aesthetic may be providing the broad strokes of color, his lyrics are adding the finer details throughout, discussing his father’s life and in general, the anxiety of growing up in a Miami neighborhood where sunny days are never promised. Zuu is a great album start to finish.
5. Marcielago - Roc Marciano
Tumblr media
Roc didn't technically *need* to drop an album this year. His 2018 was one of the most prolific in his career, and for his increasingly less niche core fanbase, the impact on his respective lane is crystal clear, be it by open shout-out from his peers, to more subliminal homages. But it's that last point that inspires Roc Marciano to suit up and dramatically emerge from the gate every year or two. He has that Jordan/Jay-Z gene that suggests that no matter how many accolades are racked up over the years, any internet troll has the potential to get Roc's blood up. Which is why it should come as no surprise by this point that the man that gave us Marcberg, Reloaded and a stack of other revered projects, still felt the need to remind his "sons" that he is one of the Masters of his art form.
As an exercise in word choice and turn of phrase, Marcielago is more of a flex than an attempt to push new boundaries. But as a display of Roc Marci's (somehow) still understated skill as a producer, it's so much more - possibly his best work behind the boards. While less experimental with his production choices than on his acclaimed Rosebudd projects, Marcielago finds Roc doubling down on his ability to color within the lines of a gritty, soulful soundtrack to a world of seductive criminal activity, occasionally swerving outside of the lines with great intention, like a record skip, reminding the listener that this world is part autobiography, part fantasy - but the imagination of the man at the center is scary real. The piano sample alone on "I.G.W.T." is enough to provoke a smokey zone out, and the beat switches on that track as well as others (such as "Tom Chambers") are captivating because the switch-ups drive focus, not a choice derived from an overindulgence in production or onset boredom.
Many rap artists can claim to have made a great impact on their respective lane of traffic, but not many can claim that they paved their own. Roc did not invent the New York underground sound by any means, but when most of the New York crew abandoned ship, the captain stuck with it. ✊
4. The Plugs I Met - Benny The Butcher
Tumblr media
Let's make this perfectly clear: Griselda Records has been dope af for years now, and nothing changed about their game plan in 2019 except that they had significantly more press to help continue pushing their brand forward. That press helped them put a ribbon around a tremendous year of music for them, along with a rapidly growing bandwagon of websites and online influencers that were previously asleep at the wheel.
That all being said...in 2019, the rap world really learned about Benny The Butcher. The Buffalo lyricist and Griselda & BSF rap capo has been spitting for years now, but word has finally reached his peers that he is pretty close to untouchable when it comes to this game called rap. Benny took things to another level with his short but potent dose of an album, The Plugs I Met.  Much like Pusha T (an appropriate guest here on “18 Wheeler”), please do not dismiss Benny as just another street hustler rapping about cocaine dealing. It’s not the subject matter that’s special here, it’s the attention to detail. Benny’s ability to describe the life he leads/has lead, and what he has been through with his writing is nothing short of brilliant, and he is able to rattle off astute observations/descriptions with his rhymes about the world he knows at a level that I would only compare to B.I.G., Nas, Jay-Z, Kool G Rap, Push, Beanie Sigel, and other legendary MC’s that have a unique way with words when it comes to tales of crime life.
But what more can I say about Benny the rapper/warrior poet that I haven’t been saying for years?  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

3. We Grown Now - Tree
Tumblr media
Tree is a legend. If he’s not a legend in the conversations you are currently having about the best rap projects of 2019, then you need to remedy that. Perhaps you can downgrade him to “just” a Chicago legend, but I would disagree on the grounds that musically, he’s a legend when it comes to who he is as a rap artist, and I don’t really care that this album isn’t on anyone else’s top best of lists, it’s AOTY worthy material...
Tree is a veteran rapper/producer that seems to have a love-hate relationship with the rap business (well, maybe it’s strictly hate when it comes to rap as a business, but he raps with too much conviction for me to believe that he doesn’t love rapping - even when he’s jaded by it all). Why he isn’t heralded as an icon across every rap website today isn’t exactly clear to me (and I have already made too many assumptions on the intents of the artists on this list), but after being in a bit of a slumber, the purveyor of “soul trap” seemed to rise high once again in 2019, striking his fanbase with numerous projects that read as autobiographical diaries, including a dope collaboration with Vic Spencer, producer Parallel Thought, and this amazing album, We Grown Now.
Whether it’s attempting to find closure from fallen friendships, an ode to his sons, a declaration of his love for travel, or an olive branch to the past loves of his life, Tree touched on so many personal moments on his work in 2019 that it’s hard not to think that it’s all part of his final victory lap. It feels that way because Tree comes across as an old Blues man at heart, his greatest works of art often his most painful ones. While he may travel outside of music to get away from it all, put a mic, beat and writing pad in front of him, and he puts himself out there, warts and all. Give this one a spin in the New Year if you missed out:

2. Retropolitan - Skyzoo & Pete Rock
Tumblr media
The definition of a dope New York album with no skips. Skyzoo shows that one can revel in nostalgia and positivity at the same time, that reflecting on how your home has changed can be a loving experience, even when it's clear that you would love to turn back the clock to an older, impactful time of your life.
Retropolitan is the sound of a music Mecca that thrives today because of its' past, and even when you don't hear that sound of the city within the city walls as often as you used to, it’s that sound that still propels it forward every day. By all means, you can criticize the sounds coming from "these kids today", but know that new sounds still trace back to their source material (whether you can hear it or not, the influence exists), and there will always be enough room for different rap styles to to co-exist, just as Classical music and Rock 'n Roll continue to inspire the world around us without any genre/sub-genre diluting the pool...in fact, the pool only continues to expand because of it.
Like Roc Marciano, Skyzoo is on a short list of NYC-based MC’s that kept developing a traditional east coast underground sound in their music for years, long after it was en vogue. As one of the genre’s most naturally gifted writers and storytellers, I don’t know if any MC working today is as fit to write this album as Skyzoo, a relic that survived a purging of the old guard in NYC only to emerge as part of a resurgence of underground hip-hop, sounding as spry as ever (if not, even stronger). With Retropolitan, every bit of this ode to growing up in a culture capitol feels like a child’s observation from a Brooklyn apartment window rather than a forced exaltation of times gone by.
This pairing may be the most natural for Pete Rock since CL Smooth, and no doubt the music on this album would not exist if it wasn't for timeless records like "T.R.O.Y." that continue to breathe and sound as refreshing as the day it dropped. Right now I doubt many expect Retropolitan to have the same cultural impact (as the material clearly points out, both the world and the genre are so different nowadays), but the music that derived from these two NYC legends certainly packs a wallop of quality that belongs in rotation for years to come.
1. Bandana - Freddie Gibbs & Madlib
Tumblr media
By now it's hard to imagine that folks were skeptical of the musical union between Freddie Gibbs and Madlib. But back in 2010/2011, prior to the release of "Thuggin" (the first single to be released from the fantastic project that would eventually become Pinata) the notion of Gangsta Gibbs finding a happy union with the man that was behind classic projects alongside underground icons the likes of MF DOOM and Jay Dilla, sounded more like a fish out of water tale. Today, it would be like hearing news of 21 Savage and DJ Premier dropping.
By the time Bandana finally dropped - the much anticipated follow-up to the Pinata collaboration that many consider a modern classic - the hype had long since buried the initial questions that fans had about what the chemistry would be like between the respected artists, who once climbed the rankings within two very separate lanes. What Pinata proved was that the hard rhymes from Gibbs, when paired with Madlib's chopped up jazzy soulscapes, yield a sound that feels as beautifully organic as many of the genre's purist classic records. The biggest difference between Bandana and its' predecessor is that their chemistry has only improved.
What 'MadGibbs' achieved here was a more intimate and diverse album than Pinata, and arguably a superior one. Bandana may lack the layers of dusty underground grit which came in abundance on Pinata, but Gibbs' flow and pen game are so sharp on this album that it gave Madlib a bit more room to experiment with some sounds that don't instantly point to Madlib as the orchestrator on first listen. Lurking behind the making of this project were Gibbs' very real legal troubles, and the threat of extended prison time that not only jeopardized the completion of this project, but Freddie Gibbs' own freedom. Throughout the amazing Bandana, Gibbs does not hesitate to remind fans of how his life could very well have gone in a different direction, and that's exactly what elevates an album of bars & beats to a gripping, album of the year experience. Even with Bandana still in heavy rotation for the foreseeable future, it's hard not to salivate over what the duo could accomplish next...

Hi, Grae! I have another question about Dungeons and Dragons. In your opinion, what would each Side play as?
Ooo! I love this question!
I could see a lot of rationalization for lots of different options. So I’ll try to explain as best I can here for different options I can see. Also, lots of people have different opinions on this!
Virgil:
Cleric: clerics are usually focused on keeping people alive and using healing magic. Given that he’s kind of the “protector” of the group, I could definitely see him wanting to have those abilities and making that a focus of a character for himself. I don’t see Cleric!Virgil very often, but it’s one I could definitely see as a strong possibility.
Rogue: This is one I see a fair amount, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. I totally see it. Rogues tend to be sneaky (the kind to undo traps, unlock doors, generally be stealthy) and there’s something about that that just fits Virgil’s whole aesthetic. Plus, they are easy to play as snarky and angsty, which I think Virgil would find kind of fun.
Paladin: Paladins can have similar healing abilities to clerics, but they tend to follow a darker deity than clerics and are usually bound in some kind of way, whereas clerics have a bit more choice in the matter. I could definitely see Virgil viewing paladins as the best combo of “healing medic and the angsty, emo persona”
Patton
Cleric: If Virgil didn’t choose cleric, I could also see Patton taking up that mantel. (There’s no rule that two players can’t play the same class, but I just don’t think they’d both be clerics for some reason?). Patton constant desire to do what is right and to be there for others? Definitely a cleric trait. And I could see him playing a cleric following a life domain, and being a generally incredibly sweet and kind cleric.
Ranger: I could see Patton being drawn to ranger as a class predominantly because they get to interact with animals and even have an animal companion. Rangers, in simple terms, tend to be your “bow-and-arrow survivalists”, and I could see Patton having a lot of fun with animal handling skills and that kind of thing.
Druid: Druids get to have nature-based magic which allows them (among many other things) to shift into animal forms. So I could see Patton being a druid for all the same reasons he’d be interested in a ranger. ^u^
Logan
Wizard: This is also one that I’ve seen a lot, but love. The difference between wizards, warlocks, and sorcerers is relatively thin. But wizards earn their magic abilities through rigorous study of the arcanic arts, and I could see Logan being drawn to characters that earn their abilities through academic pursuits. Spells also require a lot of strategy in combat, and I think Logan would enjoy and seek out that kind of intellectual challenge for himself in-game.
Monk: Monks deal a lot with self-control and discipline. I could see Logan finding this kind of character interesting from an RP-perspective. I could definitely see Logan being surprisingly good at role-playing a monk character who maybe struggles, at first, with that element of self-control, and leaving the structured lifestyle within a monastery and entering the very unpredictable life of an adventurer.
Roman
Bard: I personally love Bard!Roman ideas. Bards are a class that focus less on attacking during combat and more on inspiring others, healing them, and supporting them through song and performance. I think Roman would have an absolute blast RP-ing a bard and coming up with songs to sing to them in the heat of battle to inspire them.
Sorcerer: I don’t see this very often, but I could also see a case for sorcerer!Roman. Sorcerers, like wizards, are arcanic-based magic users. The difference (from an RP-perspective) is that sorcerers have the ability to use arcanic magic from their bloodline, rather than rigorous study. But I could see Roman wanting to be able to attack more than a bard generally does, and I could see him being attracted to the flashy pyrotechnics (so to speak) of arcanic based magic.
This is probably more than you were really expecting, but hopefully this gives you some ideas! ^u^

(ZAZIE BEETZ, UNKNOWN, SHE/HER) We have been waiting for a while, but SHAKA was finally spotted in the village today. People heard whispers that they are a HORSEMAN (WAR) that is hellbent on getting involved in fixing the veils. Will they succeed? Only time can tell. Until then we will keep a close eye on them as they listen to "GOLD PURPLE ORANE" BY JEAN GRAE & QUELLE CHRIS. (Frenchy, She/Her, 22, EST)
Tumblr media
Baby 2 out of 3 go go go! This is Shaka, war of the four horsemen. She’s an artist, often working on these grand oil paintings depicting war or death or humanity -- mainly vanitas. Very baroque of her. She likes to think of herself as refined and in control but she has a temper on her and little patience for the petty squabbles of humans. She tries extremely hard (with varying degrees of success) to balance grace and power.
Here’s the skinny...
As far as age goes, first of all rude, second she’s older than most can fathom.
She likes to think that war (and of course the tenets of the other three horsemen) are apart of existence. There’s no getting around it.
Furthermore, she firmly believes that people have darkness in them and are capable of hurting each other, fighting and killing each other without her instilling it in them. It’s just a little push.
This she finds kind of disgusting. How easy it is to start bloodbaths over matters of little importance.
That said, she also believes that war is necessary and can be just and righteous. War itself isn’t always the issue, especially in situations of liberation, revolt, the reclamation of power etc.
I think as far as the veil is concerned, she tends to lean more towards “let them rot if they want,” but respects her fellow horsemen who believe more firmly in the balance than she maybe does. Thus she will support them and work towards the reinstitution of the veil.
It took her a long time to come into herself and she refuses to label herself as just a bringer of chaos. Chaos has always been there. It says more about humanity’s character than her own that they are so easily swayed.
The ring she wears is gold. Classically beautiful albeit showing its age.
Yeah, I’m just going to do it. She rides a red Kawasaki Ninja.
Connections!
Muses (most people end up in one of her paintings eventually)
Other horsemen
People that get on her nerves
I like to think she participates heavily in the arts/sports so dance partners, sparring partners etc.
Someone (could be plural) she has a soft spot for
Going off of that, Shaka has an intense energy, maybe someone who mellows her out would be interesting!

Orfeo
hey hi hello my name is seiya and i love child ballads and very self wanky au-au’s inspired by child ballads.
------
Once there were a pair of twins to a mortal woman born.
(Does this sound familiar? Perhaps this is in a place that is a distorted mirror to your own, only a hop skip and dimensional jump away. Or this is a bedtime story, told by a wizard to his recently found daughter. Or by a harried new father, or a sleepy uncle.
Perhaps you should keep reading regardless.)
The midwife rolled the bones, went through the ashes and the entrails, and then when that show was done for the parents, got her actual answer in a bowl of soup. One was fated to live and die, live and die, live and die a hundred thousand lives over and over again as we all are fated to do. The other however, would live until every star in the sky went out, and every other living thing died, and only then would he pass on to what was next.
Naturally, the couple didn’t take it well. Luckily, they had his uncle, an old man in the woods they could offload the b-
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” the witch told them.
“How...how did you know?” the mother asked, a tremor in her voice.
The witch raised her eyebrow, and let them think it was magic and not forty years experience of the human condition and more specifically having to deal with unwanted children.
“You can keep both, or give both away,” the witch went on, “but you must keep them together or else.”
“Or else?” the father demanded.
The witch smelt fire in her nose, felt her skin crackle under the force of unnatural energies, and sighed. “Just fucking do it or I’ll curse you both with warts.”
Ten minutes later she had carefully bundled the babies and some goat milk into a basket, and was headed to the Old Fox. He was the trickster of all tricksters, a crank and a crook and not as good in bed as he thought he was, but the witch knew there was no better place for these babies to be than with him.
(you may be wondering where the beast with one eye is in this story. the answer is that he’s a big stinky jerk and will not be appearing tonight.)
----
Once there was an old man who took in the grandchildren of his sister. He was cranky and smelly and may or may not have been missing an eye, and was the absolute last person on earth who should have been trusted with the raising of children.
(within thirty seconds of meeting them the girl had spat up on him, and the boy had sneezed fire and burnt his eyebrows off and there was no way he was ever giving them up.)
He taught the boy how to lie, cozen, cheat, and steal. How cheap tricks and flash would distract a mark enough that they would never notice you were fleecing them for all they were worth. The art of the deal, and even more importantly, how to lie with the truth. He taught the boy almost everything he knew, and when he was done felt satisfied knowing the boy would one day surpass him.
He taught the girl the ways of the forest, introduced her to the Hidden Folk (and the Not So Hidden Folk). What you could eat, what you couldn’t eat. He taught her how to punch and kick and otherwise defend herself. And cheating at cards, the one thing the boy never could quite master. He didn’t have a lot to teach the girl, and he worried about that at first, before he realized she was teaching him more than he was her.
They were the boy and the girl, and then they grew slowly into the Demon King and the Lady of Rainbows. And if the boy stopped aging for awhile until he remembered that he needed to match with his sister, or the girl began putting together her cassone, it didn’t bother either of them. Eternity was forever away, wasn’t real, all that mattered was that they were here now and together and would continue that way for an indefinite amount of time and-
Then one day a red haired woodsman came into the woods.
---
The Demon King pulled out his ace in the hole, the one argument that his sister surely could not defeat.
“He plays the bagpipes.”
The Lady of Rainbows frowned. “So?”
“So?!” Her twin sputtered. “They sound like dying cats!”
“The pipes are a noble instrument!” said the disembodied bespectacled head that rolled around their uncle’s place. Neither of them had ever gotten a straight answer from the Old Fox on why the head was there.
The Lady pointed a finger at the King. “I love him. I’m marrying him, and we are gonna have kids and you’re going to be their weird, horrifying yet loving uncle, and we will be okay and-”
“No we won’t! Because he’s taking you away from me-”
“-um, he’s not?”
“-and you’re going to grow old-”
“-that was going to happen any way.”
“-and you’re going to d͙̰͉̯ie̯̬̜̫͝!!!”
The Demon King’s words echoed in the room, even as they both fell silent. So of course this was when the red headed woodsman came into the house.
He looked between the two siblings for a long second, before finally saying “Is this a bad time?”
“Yes,” replied the Demon King at the same time the Lady of Rainbows said “Oh no, my brother was just getting ready to leave for the day.”
“Oh. Um. I’ll just... leave you both alone to uh, say goodbye.” The red headed woodsman stepped back outside, and the Lady of Rainbows huffed out a sigh.
“He’s a good man,” her brother finally offered. “I can see his heart and everything. It’s just-”
“Just what?”
The Demon King shook his head. “Nothing. Everything. Fine. Have your little dalliance-”
“He’s going to be your brother-in-law, can you at least try not to be a jerk to him?”
“-And when it all falls to pieces, I’ll be there waiting for you.”
The Lady stared at him for a long minute, before bursting out laughing. She grabbed her twin for a surprise hug. “You goofy butt, don’t you know that my Woodsman would do anything for me? Now are you done being a snooty snoot?”
Her twin started laughing a second after her. “Yes, okay, I am, I promise!”
(she wanted to think the best of the demon, which is why she didn’t notice his fingers crossed behind his back.)
----
They got married, and the Demon King waited (and also ate all the cake.)
The red haired woodsman got bitten by the Old Fox’s goat and still the Demon King waited.
They moved into a set of rooms they added on to the Old Fox’s house, and still the Demon King waited.
The red haired woodsman and the Demon King went on a fishing trip that was totally Not Awkward and still the Demon King waited.
Then the Lady of Rainbows started talking about the patter of little feet in the house, and teaching kids how to cut down a tree in five minutes, and then, and then-
----
One day the red haired woodsman went out hunting. He left his Lady at home all alone, with the confidence of a man who knew his wife could kick his ass any day of the week with ease.
(scowan erla grae)
The red haired woodsman came home at noon, and saw the Old Fox on the porch.
“Hey S-.” The red haired woodsman paused. Something was off.
“Where is she?”
The Old Fox lifted his head up, and for the first time that the red haired woodsman could remember, looked simply old.
“She’s.... she’s gone son.”
The red haired woodsman didn’t go into the house to check for a body. He didn’t ask why or how.
He didn’t need to.
He turned his back on the old Fox and went into the woods.
(Far yorten han grun orla)
----
the red haired woodsman sat down on a tree stump, only for a moment, only to weep, and the woods swallowed him whole
for he was the earth’s favored son, long lost but finally home
(Skoven arle grön)
he sat on the stump and his head followed the sun across the sky, his feet burrowed deep into the dirt and his toes grew impossibly long branching out into even more toes, the better to get water and nutrients and wrap around rocks and his feet remained in their boots
he sat on the stump and the bears pledged their strength to him, the birds brought the secrets of the world to his ears, the snakes taught him cunning, and the deer and rabbits brought him bloody meat to sustain him
he sat on the stump and his clothes wore into tatters beaten by the rain and sun and snow, and his hair grew long and just as his roots were spreading deep into the soil so did two massive branches begin to grow from his skull, textured like wood but colored like the bone they came from
he sat on the stump and thought of nothing was still like stone and the only thoughts that went through his head were those of the earth and wind and sky, thoughts of love and above all a chorus of “mine, mine, mine” and he was clung ever closer to the forest and
One day a company to him drew near
(Hvor hjorten han gar arlig)
----
The Demon King and the Lady of Rainbows spent most of their time now in the King’s land under the hill- well, it was metaphorically under the hill, being that it was really everywhere and nowhere and composed of the minds of every conscious being and we are getting off topic here aren’t we?
So.
The Demon King and the Lady of Rainbows spent most of their time under the hill, but The Demon King recognized the importance of letting his Court out in the fresh air every once in a while, and thus they would ride.
(Scowan urla grun)
A creature stepped out into the road in front of the Court. The Demon King kept everyone going for a minute or two, to see if the creature- no, a man- no, a dryad- no, something else entirely- would step out of the way.
He did not, and the Demon King stopped inches from his feet. The Demon King’s mount reared back, and made to trample the man, but the man did not move out of the way. The Demon King pulled back, raised his eyebrows, and then dismounted, walking up to the man himself.
“Normally, I would strike you down for such insolence,” the Demon King began. He waited for his sister to call him on his bullshit, but she said nothing, her hands holding the reins of her mount so tight her knuckles were white. Huh. Odd.
“But being as it is a lovely day and I am on a ride with my fair sister, I’m willing to let this pass, if you let us pass. Sound like a d̞̫̹̖̦͇̬e̠̜̳̮̲a̝l̥͈̀?”
The man opened his mouth once, twice, but no sound came out, as if it had been a long, long time since he had spoken. Finally he managed, “Yes. But first, may I play you a song?” And from behind his back he drew out some bagpipes.
(don’t ask where he got the pipes or how they had not rotted during years of being in the forest, this is a fairy tale damnit.)
First he played the notes of noy, and all the members of the Demon King’s court beautiful ladies and lords, all froze to stare unerringly at the piper, in awe at the beauty of his music. Then he played the notes of joy, which made even the Demon King dance with his subjects and the Lady of Rainbows smile.
Then the music dropped in tone (and did the forest get darker? clouds begin to gather in the sky?) as the piper began to play the gaber reel. The court dissolved into tears- literally, as they shed their human forms for their true visages, of creatures sharp in tooth and nail and claw, and fluffy of wool. The Demon King stood tall and strong against the onslaught for one minute, two, three.... and then bent over in half, golden tears streaming down his face and hitting the ground with little sizzle and hisses.
Only the Lady of Rainbows remained untouched, her eyes never moving from the man playing the pipes.
Finally, the Demon King held up a hand, and the man stopped playing.
“I...” Rarely was the Demon King at a loss for words. He stayed quiet for a long minute and then tried again.
“That... was terrible. Awesome. It broke me. What will you have now for your pay?”
The Red Headed Woodsman gently placed the pipes down onto the ground.
“I would like my wife back.”
---
There was silence for a full minute.
Then the Demon King uttered gravely, “Oh fuck.”
---
The Lady of Rainbows had been, to this point, uncharacteristically silent. Now she turned in her saddle and said sweetly to her brother, “You told me my husband was dead.”
“Look, I can exp-”
“You told me that a tree fell on him in the forest and his body had been completely crushed.”
“Yes but-”
“And that when you told the Old Man what had happened, he had a heart attack and died too and then a bear ate his face. I’m guessing that he’s still alive and kicking?”
“Okay so the bear was overkill-”
The Lady of Rainbows dismounted, and walked over to her brother.
“You lied to me.”
“It was for your own good!”
She slapped him once, twice, across the face and was going for thrice when a hand wreathed in blue fire grabbed her wrist.
They stood locked like that for a second.
“You had no right,” the Lady said.
“I had every right, you will die if you don’t live in my realm.”
She relaxed her hand and he let it go.
“I haven’t been living these last seven years. You know that.”
The Demon King said nothing.
“Please. Let me go home.”
“I can’t.”
The Lady of Rainbows folded her arms, and tapped a foot. “It seems to me you have two options. You let me go home with my husband. We make hot sweaty love-”
“-ew-”
“-give you lots of niblings to spoil, and we all live together, if not happily ever after, happily for as long as we can, because, despite everything you’ve done, you are still my brother and I want you in my life.”
“And if I say no?”
“I never, ever, ever speak to you again.”
“You don’t mean that.”
The Lady laughed bitterly. “I have never been more serious in my life.”
“I could take you back any way.”
She nodded.
“You could.”
“I could make you talk.”
“You could indeed put words in my mouth. But you and I would both know that they meant nothing and they were worthless. So once again. You can lose me in 80 years, or you can lose me right fucking now. So choose Dipper.”
---
There once was a shack in the woods, and in it lived a grumpy old man, the queen of light and beauty, a great and terrible power, and the husband of the queen. There were children (though no one, not even the Demon King, had planned on all three coming at once) and two dozen pigs that the Lady of Rainbows adopted, and the Flock and Jeremy. There was life and love and light and laughter.
It tore the Demon King apart as they all left him, one by one, but he was comforted, cushioned by the memories he had made with his family, the lessons his sister and his brother had taught him.
And whenever he found himself drifting from those lessons, the Shadow of the Red Headed Woodsman would come to remind him of the consequences of forgetting.
----
"...And you’ll be king for all your days,” the Demon King said absentmindedly.
The Red Headed Woodsman looked up from leading his wife’s horse back to the Shack. “What did you say?”
“I said something?”
The Red Headed Woodsman almost challenged his brother, but he genuinely looked confused, and it had been a very long and very weird day, so he let it go.
(and if he left something of himself behind in the woods, no one noticed. At least, right away.)

An Album to Check Out: #DellaYassine An #AlbumReview of 'Guns' by Quelle Chris: ________ Quelle Chris returns after his last year collab project with Jean Grae with a new Hip-Hop album titled 'Guns.' Centered around the subject of gun violence, the album explores respective composing elements to gun ownership, what is habitually portrayed as the representation of the violence, plus some of the racial and political connotations and =components that play into that context. Quelle produces the entirety of the project in a way that supplies a properly accompanying and well-fitting sound to his grittyly composed style of delivery, especially with tracks that are sonically foreboding. For example, the bass-driven opening track 'Spray and Pray' and the creatively ironic 'PSA Drugfest 2003 (Sleeveless Minks)' both exhibit how the items of each song mesh together perfectly. Furthermore, 'Guns' does not betray its thematic approach where the whole of it is well-focused and executed really well. However, there are a few instances that provide a level of levity from the bleek subject-matter best exemplified in 'Box of Weaties' and 'You, Me & Nobody Else.' 'Guns' by Quelle Chris is a great, direct, and blunt album littered with fascinating production and brilliantly transmitted content. ________ Tags: #music #song #songs #Review #melody #hiphop #rnb #rap #art #beats #Beat #Black #Gun #Guns #GunCulture #QuelleChris @quellechrist #Quelle #Album #MC #RealRap #Real #Production #hiphophead #Rapper #Rappers #Underground #UndergroundHipHop #Producer. https://www.instagram.com/p/B19Vr9DlFmb/?igshid=r43y3ffupp1w

Note
All of them :P
1:Full name
Alexander David Walter, but please call me Pete
2:Age
18
3:3 Fears
I’ll die early and break my promise to my best fried to not die for “many, many years to come,” getting anything- even water- in my eyes or close to my eyes, my parents finding out about my beliefs and kicking me out
4:3 things I love
My best friend, my best friend, and, um, my best friend
My best friend, cuddling/hugging, and being cold
5:4 turns on
Uhh, I only get “turned on” if I haven’t ‘done the deed’ in a while, but I don’t really have any stimuli that can sexually “turn me on” consistently.
6:4 turns off
Honestly? Nakedness. And also…… gosh, I don’t know. My lack of sexual attraction is not helping me come up with an answer…
7:My best friend
My best friend is Rachel and she is a first violin in the top orchestra at my former high school and we met through a school club and we had lunch every day almost all of my senior year and she is the best and I love her
8:Sexual orientation
Sexual orientation? Asexual, or on the Ace spectrum at least.
9:My best first date
Uh, what in my life classifies as a date? I’m so ??? on everything, but….. I’m going to claim that I haven’t had a true first date with anybody. However, I did go to dinner with someone (who was forced to go with me by her parents 1/10 would not recommend at all) before the homecoming dance in my freshman year and the pasta wasn’t terrible and we did have some moments of sustained conversation…
10:How tall am I
6′ 1″ (186 cm)
11:What do I miss
My best friend, getting to eat lunch with my best friend and another of my closest friends every day at school, the high school clubs and band, marching band, my AP Gov class, playing games with people
12:What time were I born
11:55 am on a Monday

15:Favourite quote

So let me thank you for your timeAnd try to not waste any more of mineGet out of here fast”
from the song “King of Anything” by Sara Bareilles
16:Favourite place
Next to my best friend. Otherwise, the city where I grew up.
17:Favourite food
A cheeseburger with an egg on it. A bun, a burger patty, american cheese (or cheddar), bacon, an over-easy egg, and lettuce. Plus, I love biting into the burger and then letting the runny yolk drip onto the fries and if I’m lucky, some cheese will also drip onto the fries over time and so I can have cheesy, egg-y fries and they just taste so good
18:Do I use sarcasm
Yeah, I would say so.
19:What am I listening to right now
The ringing in my ears from my hearing damage

Content
34:My relationship with my parents
I’m not all that open with them and don’t feel that it’s worth it at this point to let them into my personal life
35:Favourite holiday
Christmas, honestly. It’s one of the two times I get to see all of my mom’s family, guaranteed, and it’s much better than Thanksgiving
36:Tattoos and piercing i have
None, and I don’t want any either
37:Tattoos and piercing i want
Oh. Well, what I typed five seconds ago still stands, I don’t want any.
38:The reason I joined Tumblr
Uhh, I’m not going to say… Let’s say the puns, yeah, the puns…
39:Do I and my last ex hate each other?
She should hate me, but I don’t hate her. I just feel incredibly guilty…

My best friend and I try to say good night every night.
41:Have I ever kissed the last person you texted?

I wouldn’t be drunk, alcohol in no way tastes anywhere close to as good as root beer does

However loud it needs to be for me to clearly hear it, and loud if I’m trying to drown out noises I don’t want to hear (the television about once a week average)

For 11 more days and then whenever I’m not at college, and we’ll see after I graduate
49:Am I excited for anything?
I’m going to my best friend’s first cross country meet of the season today and so I get to see my best friend today!!!!!

Talking about my life or the future or anything around my parents and church friends
52:When was the last time I hugged someone?
Sunday
53:What if the last person I kissed was kissing someone else right in front of me?
I’d be really confused but I’d support and accept it
54:Is there anyone I trust even though I should not?
I only fully 100% trust one person, and I’m fairly sure the people I’ve talked to on here aren’t bad
55:What is something I disliked about today?
I once again didn’t do anything productive towards getting ready for college
56:If I could meet anyone on this earth, who would it be?
Barack Obama would be pretty neat to meet
57:What do I think about most?
My best friend
58:What’s my strangest talent?
My buddy, I have no clue. Probably making alright sounding composition things with no knowledge of theory or anything.
59:Do I have any strange phobias?
emailing people, talking on the phone with people
60:Do I prefer to be behind the camera or in front of it?
I don’t like filming, but I also am not the most comfortable in front of a camera at all times
61:What was the last lie I told?
Probably something related to emailing my professor about renting a tuba for band
62:Do I prefer talking on the phone or video chatting online?
Video chatting online is better than talking on the phone, but both are fifth out of five methods of communicating that I detailed up yesterday for my best friend.
63:Do I believe in ghosts? How about aliens?
No, and probably not. I do think aliens exist, but I don’t believe in aliens? Like, it’s rational to think that given the entire space, aliens have to exist, but also any thoughts we have about aliens don’t strike me as believable??
64:Do I believe in magic?
No
65:Do I believe in luck?
Yes and no, it depends, it switches back and forth. Kinda like if I believe in a monotheist God.
66:What’s the weather like right now?
Recovering from the ash from the wildfires. Also we’re transitioning from summer drought to our rest of the year “This is why Seattle has the reputation it does” weather, slowly but surely over the course of the next month before it truly kicks in mid-October.
67:What was the last book I’ve read?
The last book that I read start to finish every word was probably Khaled Hosseini’s “The Kite Runner”
68:Do I like the smell of gasoline?
Not particularly, no
69:Do I have any nicknames?
(Hot) Pete, and my last name
70:What was the worst injury I’ve ever had?
Split open my head and needed a couple stitches when I was 8
71:Do I spend money or save it?
If I had any self-control or discipline, I’d be that rich teenage white boy you hear a lot in the media
72:Can I touch my nose with a tounge?
No.
73:Is there anything pink in 10 feet from me?
Same as yesterday, the stuffed animal, pillow, and folder are all still here and my hot pink tie is still in my room about 40 feet away
74:Favourite animal?
I feel uneasy around pretty much any non-human sentient being, and then most human sentient beings as well. I just… don’t know how to answer this question honestly
75:What was I doing last night at 12 AM?
I was finishing up answering the rest of the asks last night at around midnight
76:What do I think is Satan’s last name is?
Satan is just a myth to scare people into being “better” people, where “better” is just a specific lifestyle dictated by whoever managed to gain influence in the doctrine and teachings of the religion.
His origins also come from a time where surnames and ‘last names’ were not a thing, so Satan is most likely a stand-alone name, much like Plato and Zeus.
77:What’s a song that always makes me happy when I hear it?
“She Used To Be Mine” by Sara Bareilles
78:How can you win my heart?
I’ll be the judge of that. It just… happens. Rachel, Kyle, Grae, Haley, Katie, Hot Luke, and others just……. existed, and then pretty much somehow they just became a big part of my life and I…. I just love them
79:What would I want to be written on my tombstone?
That I was a beloved friend who made a positive difference in their lives
80:What is my favorite word?
Aaaaahhhh! I know so many words, like, more than 5, and there are so many good ones!!!!!! Right now, I’m feeling music as the best word of the moment.
81:My top 5 blogs on tumblr
No. This is so rude. Why? Why must I single out a few blogs and tell the world that the interaction we’ve had isn’t enough for me and that you’re just not special enough to me? I refuse to do this.
82:If the whole world were listening to me right now, what would I say?
“I love my best friend, gay people are amazing, fund the arts, respect the arts, respect people who work the “undesired” jobs, work to protect the environment, and try to do things that make you happy while not harming other people or sentient beings.”
83:Do I have any relatives in jail?
Not that I know of
84:I accidentally eat some radioactive vegetables. They were good, and what’s even cooler is that they endow me with the super-power of my choice! What is that power?
I’m firmly in the teleportation camp. I hate being late and I’m not a fan of travelling.
85:What would be a question I’d be afraid to tell the truth on?
Hygiene-related questions… please…. I’m working on it…. let me be…..
86:What is my current desktop picture?
The default background

No, ew.
88:Bought condoms?
Never actually seen them accept in memes and once during health class in freshman year
89:Gotten pregnant?
No
90:Failed a class?
Yeah….. and it was the second semester of APUSH too…
91:Kissed a boy?
On his hand, which I’ll count
92:Kissed a girl?
Yeah
93:Have I ever kissed somebody in the rain?
No
94:Had job?
I became a CYO volleyball referee and reffed two seasons so far.
95:Left the house without my wallet?
Often, and since I’ve been driving, only twice (although one was driving up for a the campus tour at the college I ended up choosing, which was about 5 total hours of driving that day, a week after I got my license). I try to remember it when I go out because I saw a few months ago a post on here saying how valuable it is in case of an accident or something and the person has an ID, and I’ve been watching crime dramas for years and having an ID is always good.
96:Bullied someone on the internet?
Good heavens, no!
97:Had sex in public?
No! Ewwww, God that’s even worse
98:Played on a sports team?
I sooo miss volleyball, and soccer was fun too
99:Smoked weed?
I hope to be able to say no until I die
100:Did drugs?
I occasionally took my prescriptions… for like 2 months… whoops
But no, not for the intention of getting high or anything, I hate drugs, even advil and tylenol
101:Smoked cigarettes?
Fuck cigarettes (and no, I haven’t)
102:Drank alcohol?
A drop of an IPA when I was 13 and a sip of a red wine when I was 16 (with parental supervision that time), and nah, it isn’t my thing.
103:Am I a vegetarian/vegan?
Show me a well-prepared vegetable that has a decent flavor and I might be open to eating them more often
104:Been overweight?
Ever since I was like 2
105:Been underweight?
Never
106:Been to a wedding?
I think I’ve been to 5?
107:Been on the computer for 5 hours straight?
what do you think I do every day?
108:Watched TV for 5 hours straight?
So many wasted hours...
109:Been outside my home country?
Not yet
110:Gotten my heart broken?
Actually? Seriously? Like, more than just butt hurt over an infatuation? No, not really
111:Been to a professional sports game?
A couple baseball games
112:Broken a bone?
My ulna and radius, just above the wrist, on my dad’s 48th birthday back in fifth grade when I tripped over my two feet in the middle of our street and landed poorly. We didn’t go to the hospital for like 3 days
113:Cut myself?
Like, as in self-harming? No.
114:Been to prom?
No, freshman homecoming was off-putting enough for me after the aftermath…
115:Been in airplane?
Yeah! Flying is great!
116:Fly by helicopter?
No
117:What concerts have I been to?
I apparently went to two The Wiggles concerts when I was a baby, and since then it’s only been school concerts
118:Had a crush on someone of the same sex?
I think the desire was enough to elevate it past a mere infatuation, but it wasn’t like a full-on crush if you know what I’m saying.
119:Learned another language?
Not fully… I’m that kind of white person (minus the complete snobbish elitist attitude)
120:Wore make up?
It isn’t bad, but it’s too close to my eyes for me to be comfortable, and it’s wayyy too much work to do like every day just to look better than my meagerness. I’m already bad enough with basic hygiene, this would be too much (although I guess if I cared that much about it it might help this problem…). I’ll gladly wear it for a show, though.
121:Lost my virginity before I was 18?
The concept of virginity is complete bs to oppress women and “weak” men and is only fun in the ‘sacrificing a virgin into a volcano’ trope but even then I don’t like it (again, sex is gross for me, so no)
122:Had oral sex?
I have kissed and been kissed on my lips, various spots on my face, and my hands, and that’s it.
123:Dyed my hair?
No
124:Voted in a presidential election?
No, but I registered to vote on my eighteenth birthday this year and I voted in the primary elections back in August and I can’t wait to vote in the November elections because VOTING IS IMPORTANT ESPECIALLY IN NON-PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS WHEN ONLY A VERY LOW PERCENTAGE OF THE POPULATION VOTES!!!!! LIKE, IT’S DISAPPOINTING THAT ONLY ABOUT 50% OF THE POPULATION VOTES IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS, BUT THAT NUMBER DROPS TO 30-40% IN MIDTERM ELECTIONS AND ONLY 10-20% IN LOCAL-ONLY ELECTIONS (READ: ELECTIONS IN ODD-NUMBERED YEARS) AND THOSE NUMBERS BREAK MY HEART AND WE NEED TO VOTE MORE BECAUSE VOTING IS THE EASIEST WAY TO HAVE SOME LEVEL OF PARTICIPATION IN GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS AND IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE TO BE HEARD AND IF YOU ONLY VOTE IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS OR NEVER AT ALL, THEN THE PEOPLE WHO FAITHFULLY VOTE EVERY YEAR, AKA RICH OLD WHITE CONSERVATIVE MEN, ESSENTIALLY HAVE ALL OF THE VOICE IN THE ELECTIONS AND WE DO NOT NEED TO HAVE EVERYTHING ABOUT OUR GOVERNMENT DECIDED BY RICH OLD WHITE CONSERVATIVE MEN IF YOU’VE EVER READ ANY HISTORY TEXTBOOK OR REALLY ANYTHING, YOU SHOULD EASILY BE ABLE TO SEE WHY! PLEASE VOTE IN EVERY ELECTION!!!!!!!!!
125:Rode in an ambulance?
No
126:Had a surgery?
Do stitches count? Otherwise, no.
127:Met someone famous?
No
128:Stalked someone on a social network?
Too many times, sadly, and sorry
129:Peed outside?
Yeah
130:Been fishing?
No
131:Helped with charity?
I’ve volunteered with some non-profits, but I don’t think I’ve done so with a quote “charity” unquote.
132:Been rejected by a crush?
Probably? Most things were minor infatuations that I used to think were crushes, so I’m not sure. You could say that the most recent potential qualifier rejected me, but I would beg to differ given things now
133:Broken a mirror?
I was a reckless child
134:What do I want for birthday?
More time to spend alone with my best friend, more time to be with my best friend, a sudden influx of cash (and/or guaranteed financial stability), root beer and food and people to play games with
135:How many kids do I want and what will be their names?
Zero (0). However, if I do have kids, I’d probably adopt them, and I’d probably let them choose their names. Otherwise, I really like the names Luke, Pete®, James, Haley, Sara, Nicole, Alex (particularly for non-binary or female identifying persons), Rachel (though I probably wouldn’t name my kid that bc it’s too special for me), Hannah, and Emily.
136:Was I named after anyone?
My parents don’t say so.
137:Do I like my handwriting?
I’ve spent a long time crafting this efficient style, so yes. Also I have like three style to choose, my Most EfficientTM style, my All Caps (with the first letter taller than the others) style, and my fancy style with all of the tails at the end of the letters, the a like this font has it, the curls, anything I find to be   fancy   *jazz hands*
138:What was my favourite toy as a child?
Probably my little cars that I would move around on my city roads carpet along with a motorcycle that made had a brief jingle and then a simple noise that was super cool for 6-8 year old me
139:Favourite Tv Show?
Phineas and Ferb, or How I Met Your Mother
140:Where do I want to live when older?
Ideally, somewhere here in my hometown, I just love it here.
141:Play any musical instrument?
I can make a sound, but is it really playing? *suspenseful music crescendos*
142:One of my scars, how did I get it?
My Aunt re-married when I was 8 and the guy had a son a few months older than me, and we babysat him for a month during their honeymoon. Well, this boy wasn’t a good influence on me at all, but that’s beside the point. I thought he was… you know what, that actually is the point, but…. I though he was cool, and he could do things and did things that I wanted to try.
Well, one day, we laid out flat a futon and covered it with all the cushions and pillows from the couch that was also downstairs. Then, he grabbed an exercise ball, put it on the futon, got on it, rolled across the futon over the pillows, and stood up on the other side of the futon when he was done and I was so impressed, it blew my mind that he laid his midsection on the ball and rolled the ball like 6 feet and didn’t move or fall off of the exercise ball as it rolled.
So I tried it. And at the end, I slid off the ball, but not to land. I didn’t know how he stayed horizontal, and it showed, as I fell forward and slammed the side of me head into the corner of a cabinet right next to the far side of the cabinet. It hurt, and so I didn’t try a second time… until he successfully did it again a few minutes later. So I, desperately wanting to do it right and be “cool” like him, tried to do it again.
And I hit the exact same part of the side of my head on the corner of the cabinet again, almost exactly how my run went the first time. After the second hit, my head really hurt, and so I put my hands to my head, ran halfway up the stairs, and began to cry.
Also know that I was going through a phase where I loved to fake cry. I thought imitating the sounds of crying without the tears was one of the funniest things. And my mom hated it. She was a stay-at-home mom at that point, had been from a few months before I was born until my youngest sister entered elementary school with us. And so she was at home all day, every day (hence the babysitting). So, for the two months of summer by that point, my fake crying obsession was driving her up the wall.
Back to the story. Now, I’m sitting on the staircase, hands on my head because it hurts, tears forming in my eyes and my voice beginning to make all the crying sounds that I made when I was fake crying all summer so I guess my imitations were spot on. But after about a minute, I decided remove my arms from my head, and I looked at them, and there were lines of blood all the way from my fingers to my elbows and drops had fallen from my elbows onto my sock, and I shrieked.
I immediately went back down the stairs to the office where mom was on the computer, and the tears were coming almost as steady as the blood, and I was full-out crying. My mom, who was looking at the screen and thus only heard me crying, lashed out angrily, telling me to stop bothering her with that freaking fake crying. That is, until I got her to look at my arms. She took me upstairs and cleaned me up a little, but, while my bleeding slowed significantly, it didn’t stop.
After about 3 hours, my dad came home from work, and the bleeding still hadn’t stopped, and so we went to the hospital. I ended up getting 5 or 6 stitches, and when my hair is cut short enough, you can see the small white line.
That’s the only scar that I definitely know that I have. I haven’t really done anything physically risky since. That’s also pretty much when I stopped crying all that much…
143:Favourite pizza toping?
Extra cheese. Otherwise, sausage.
144:Am I afraid of the dark?
Only if I’m trying to sneak through somewhere and I can’t see where exactly I’m going
145:Am I afraid of heights?
Yeah, I would say I have a mild fear of heights. Specifically if I have to go down somewhere (like downhill slightly and there is a sharp decline on one side), or if I have to jump more than like 3 feet
146:Have I ever got caught sneaking out or doing anything bad?
I’ve been reprimanded for going out for most of the day and not saying anything, just disappearing for like 6 hours on a Sunday morning
147:Have I ever tried my hardest and then gotten disappointed in the end?
I never try my hardest
148:What I’m really bad at
Emailing people I need to, cleaning, hygiene, contacting people, calling people on the phone/talking to people on the phone, doing what I need to do
149:What my greatest achievements are
I graduated from high school, I won an CYO volleyball championship in sixth grade, I won a math competition in 7th grade (by guessing better than 19 other 7th and 8th graders from two different schools), and I…….. I haven’t really done much yet, nothing truly worthwhile (except maybe hs graduation)
150:The meanest thing somebody has ever said to me
I can’t think of anything, really. Although some acquaintances of mine made anti-Semitic “jokes” in front of me during summer camp this year and it bothered me a lot
151:What I’d do if I won in a lottery
I’d buy a large enough apartment to have space to wander around (picture Castle’s apartment from the show Castle, and pretty much like that but a little less opulent and I don’t need all the ornate luxuries around. Just the space of like 5-7 medium/large open rooms with a comfortable bed and a non-cramped bathroom or two, and a nice big kitchen for all the food I’m going to have.
I’d always have root beer in stock, along with some snacks that I like, and I’d have whatever foods my friends like because my closest friends would have invitations to come at literally any time (like, this is for max 6 people), and I’d like to regularly meet up with my closest friends and I’ll treat them to nice filling dinners at the local diners, Denny’s, wherever they want, even McDonald’s or whatever, and I’ll tip really well, like at least $50 dollars because those people are always so nice, and I’ll splurge so much on my friends.
I’d also donate a bunch to all of those people who really need it that I see come across my dash, and I’ll donate a crapload to my high school band because they meant the world to me, and I’d FUND THE ARTS BECAUSE THE ARTS ARE IMPORTANT.
152:What do I like about myself
I like that I love the arts and that I play the tuba and that I am getting into writing music and that I write poetry and that I love my friends especially my best friend and I like that I try to be positive and supportive of the LGBTQ+ community and that I actively try to make the world a slightly happier place most of the time
153:My closest Tumblr friend

154:Something I fantasize about
Getting to spend long periods of time with my best friend, having a bunch of money to spend on my best friend, being happy
155:Any question you’d like?
What is your favorite video game that you own that you’ve never seen elsewhere and is likely not well-known at all?
I love the game Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords for the Wii, and I can play it for hours upon hours for days and not get bored. It’s a really fun game with a long storyline that is entertaining and original, and I just love playing it and have literally only ever seen it at our house since my mom somehow found it and bought it like 7 years ago.
(yes, I made that question up myself)
Thank you for asking all of these!!!!!
(when I copied and pasted it to a google doc in case the computer shuts down and I lose the whole answer, it said that I had 4825 words and it took up 17 pages. So, yeah, this is 4867 words long!)
(And I was right, the everything disappeared and so I had to post it early so I could go back and edit it, so now it’s 4900 words long in total, after editing.)

The Questioning
Jess belongs to mygardenofmuses.
Grace: Hey Damien, thanks for helping me with Jess the other day when she was sick. Can I ask you some ... personal questions, if it’s ok? I barely know you!
Well, it wasn’t like he could jump up and run NOW when he was supposed to wait for Jess, could he. Damien tensed up and clung to the glass with juice Grace had been so nice to give him.
“Sure … ?” he replied. She could ask. He couldn’t answer …
Grace took a seat by his side. “Well, before i ask anything, I want you to know that I’m just asking things, but you can refuse to answer anything that is way too much. No pressure.” she told him with a smile, before taking a good sip of her glass.
“First of all… I do know your father, Bruce. A really great bat. But, what about your mother? I’ve noticed she’s never around, not even to pick you from school, and Jess didn’t mention her either. Is she… still alive? Could you tell me a bit about her?”
Oh, no pressure alright, Damien thought as he was crossing his arms. “Sure she … is … alive” he mumbled. At least he was pretty sure about that. “She travels a lot.” That was one way to put it.
Damien looked at the windowsill and then slowly, back at Grace. “I used to travel with her but … I have to go to school. And all.”
“Of course, school is very important.” Grace agreed with a smile. Poor boy seemed so insecure… she wished to learn more though.
“I know your father works, or used to work as a hero, right? What’s your mother’s job?” she continued. Grace guessed the woman probably worked as stewardess, politician, or perhaps in the army. All those jobs required a lot of travelling!
“Ummm … She’s a collector?” Oh, he felt bad, so bad. But it was the closest thing to describe without telling. To hide the secret in some truth - it was a lesson Damien learned early in his time.
“She gathers art and … valuable things. And she used to act a lot as well. I think you’d like her.” Okay now he screwed up. He would like his mom and Grace to meet, yes, but it was not like it was probably ever going to happen.
“So she’s an actress and a art collector, right? What’s her name? Does she act in movies or in theater plays?” Grace inquired, rubbing her chin. Now this was interesting! She didn’t expect that the mother of her daughter’s current boyfriend would be working within her same orbit.
This sure caught her attention, and, in a way, made her feel proud, too. Finally, a family that was more or less normal. It was a nice change after two couples of parents who left a lot to desire… Between an abusive mom and a villain dad, and that couple who was completely absent of their son’s life most of the year, how wasn’t she going to worry about these things? Maybe this time she could relax.
“Michelle Minór” he replied. “She’s no longer active..” Yeah. He didn’t want Grae to dig around for old stuff that maybe should better be forgotten. He didn’t know himself that she’s been an actress either before Dae smuggled that dvd in his bag one time.
“But … maybe I can tell you when she’s in town.”
That would be nice. It could take some time until he found her but the prospect made him real happy.
“Michelle, Michelle… doesn’t ring a bell. Oh well. Sure she was good.” Grace smiled, trying to be supportive. She’d have to look up the name later, she always felt curiosity toward the work of other actresses.
“Well, when she’s in town, I’d love to meet her. Who knows, maybe we could become friends, hehehe!” she chirped, and winked him an eye.
“Now, next topic: what would you like to be when you grow up? A cop? A businessman? A hero, like your father? Or something else?”
She was really talkative, was she. But then again, yes, she and him really hadn’t been alone much before now, and he has been with Jess for a quite a while. It was nice to get attention, too.
“Mh. I don’t know yet.” he leaned over the table, his arms crossed still, but his posture more comfortable now. “But I don’t see police man working out.” Literally. He noticed enough of Daes life to see that dream go up in flames.
“Well, there’s other things you can do. Cops and heroes get in the frontline way too often… and sometimes they die. Like my first husband. He was a hero… He died in a fire, saving some kids.” Grace felt sad thinking about him. Puzzler had meant a lot in her life. Even if she was dating Kerberous now, she’d never forget about him.
She shook her head, not wanting to worry Damien. “Like I said, there’s plenty of things you can do. Mailman, firefighter, musician, wedding photographer, ambassador, artist… possibilities are infinite.” she looked back at him and winked him an eye. “Anything should do, as long as it makes you happy, and it’s something you can use to take care of Jess if you two ever marry, hehehehe!”
“She’ll be a doctor” Damien informed Grace, in a tone that made clear that he was sure she’d be able to handle herself. She was strong, or so he thought. More so than he himself.
“I’ll be … “ Thrown across dimensions, for as far as he knew. Damiens ears lowered as he thought about that. Not exactly normal. Not exactly what he wanted … He trailed off, not finishing the sentence.
“I know. She told me.” Grace was beaming in pride. While she knew Jess should be able to handle by herself, it seemed the poor boy had missed the teasing. But it was fine, especially when he wasn’t sure about his own future.
She reached tentatively to pat his shoulder. “It’s OK, Damien. You’re still young, you’ve got plenty of time to decide who is the person you want to be.”
She looked up and sighed softly. “If I ask about this, it’s because I’ve seen Jess falling for boys who really didn’t love her. She got hurt, a lot. But you seem to be a good kid at heart. And at the end of the day, that’s what I want for her. A boy who truly likes her, and wants her by his side, just the way she is. And you like her, right?” Her voice wasn’t teasing this time. It was warm and gentle.
Like her. “I - I don’t like Jess” Damien said nervously. He wouldn’t let himself get touched either and leaned away. “Um.” he didn’t know what to really say. She shouldn’t know. She shouldn’t tell his mom …
“True, you don’t like her. You love her. I can see it in your eyes.” Grace grinned from ear to ear. That reaction from Damien was just too cute to handle. He was saying more with his gestures than his words. And it was really sweet, in a way.
“Moving on to lighter topics… What are your hobbies, Damien? What do you do for fun?”
What? Well that made him blush. Damien couldn’t even fathom the other question at first - stuck in place like a deer in the headlights.
“I like … hitting people.” What was he supposed to say. What was he supposed to do. “And being a bad influence.”
Maybe when Grace thought he wa a bad boy she won’t think that Jess could possibly find a liking on him.
“Hitting people? For real?” Grace couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “Well, if you like that, you might have the makings of a boxer in you. That would be interesting… the first alien boxer in history!”
Why wasn’t this working…
Damiens sweater moved as his wings moved underneath in an - failing - attempt to cover himself. “I think Jess is awake” he said then and pushed his chair away from the table. Running from dire situations seemed like a good strategy now.
Grace couldn’t help but laugh a little. She truly had got to learn a lot about him. He was shy, and kind - and clearly still trying to find his true self. And that was OK. She hoped he could find a good path in his life.
“You’re right. Go check how she’s doing. I’ll prepare the breakfast!” she called out, with a smile still in her lips.
What a cute kid.
“Good.” Good. And with that he was gone, walking - as fast as he possibly could to get to Jess’ room. She may be alseep for all he knew, but he would just stay with her for a moment - no matter how.
Luckily for him, Jess was starting to wake up. She had been sick the previous day, but between Damien and her mother, most of her cold was gone. She stretched and yawned, refusing to open her eyes just yet. The bed was still warm. Man, there would be days where she just wanted to rest. It wasn’t that weird to be still tired after being sick, right?
Snuggling in her bed, Jess reached to pick up her cellphone and check the news. Nothing new, it seemed. She put down her phone and closed her yes. Maybe she could sleep a little more…
“Oh thank goodness you’re awake” Damien said as he laid eyes on Jess. He guessed she’d been sleeping still - but this was just fine. He’d closed the door behind him - not to eager to have Jess’ mom listen in.
He stepped up to her with a sigh. He really felt like joining her for an hour or two - but for now, he just sat down next to her on the bed. She didn’t look as sick as she’s been these days, but Damien wasn’t sure if he could trust that impression or not. Not asking, he reached out his hand to feel her forehead. Checking for fever.
“Oh, hey.” Jess instantly beamed. Damien being the first person she saw after waking up made her really happy. She sat on the bed, and giggled when she felt his hand on her forehead.
“No more fever. I’m fact, I’m feeling so much better. Just a little tired now.” she explained. Jess knew he’d want to know more about her state. “And you… were you waiting for me to get up…?”
“Mhmm” Damien hummed soft to affirm it. Jess said that she had no fever, but he was not all convinced of that. He kept his hand on her a little longer before he drew back - happy with the temperature, but not with letting her go.
“Is good that you’re better.” It really was a relief. Now it was weekend and she could gain her strength back. And who knew, maybe she’d be back in school on monday.
Jess blushed and looked down. Feeling this loved was still something so incredible for her. That someone actually wanted to stay by her side… it made her heart flutter in joy.
“Yes, it is. Thank you so much, Damien.” she took his hands into hers, smiling. “How much did I sleep? Hope you didn’t get too bored during my nap time…”
“Bored? No. No, not bored.” Anything but that. Damien looked at Jess’ hand that grasped his and failed at words for a moment. How to say it?
Maybe some exposition. “I made some homework. And … your mom kept me company. And she asked me a thousand questions.” Slight, slight, exaggeration on his part, given, but it felt like that. “Um.”
He looked back up at Jess face. He didn’t want to give her bad news. “She figures I like you.”
Jess noticed the sadness in his face. With the wish of comforting him, she lifted one of her hands and pulled his face close, until she could press her forehead against his. “It will be OK. She’s not going to get between us. She just worries about my happiness because other boys broke my heart in the past.”
She caressed gently his cheek, smiling. “If she asks so many things, we should take it as a good sign, because it means she expects you to stay by my side for a long time. And that means she likes you, too. Don’t worry. It will be alright.” she whispered softly. Leaning forward, she pressed gently her lips to his in a tender kiss. When she pulled back, a rosy color decorated her cheeks.
Damien just looked at her for a long moment. How could she know that?
She couldn’t. But she couldn’t also know better. He’d never told her …
“Mom has a habit of moving when I get attached to anybody. I don’t know where she is but I’ve been here so long” he said. It actually has been eating on his nerves for some time - the feeling of being dragged away any day, any time, and being powerless against it. He was just a child …
She held his face gently, making him meet her gaze. “Hey. I won’t let anyone take you from me. No one. Not even your mom.” Her voice was firm, even if her touch was gentle.
“You and me… I feel we’re connected by something stronger than parents, races or any boundaries society might put on us. If your mother tries something, you can hide here with me. Or we can run away and hide in our secret hideouts, letting my mom be the only one who knows.” she nuzzled him lovingly. “You’re so important for me, Damien. No one will drive us apart. We’ll stick together, no matter what.” I love you, she wanted to say, but she was afraid of scaring him off. Love is a powerful word. Those were just words, though, and sometimes actions are just as good.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. She wished to never let go…
She really believed that, didn’t she. They could just run off … When that was the exact thing Damien meant to avoid. He liked it here. He liked going to school, he liked knowing the subway plan. He liked to have Jess around, and Blue …
“Can we be secret? Just … Sometime longer?” he asked. He’d not be mad when she’d say no. He was just so worried.
“Sure. Whatever makes your happiest.” Jess held him close. If keeping their relationship a secret made him feel safer, she wouldn’t oppose to it. Chances were this was the safest way to protect him from his mother.
“I’ll make sure my mom doesn’t say a word either. She’s good at keeping secrets, too.” she said, resting her head against his.
“Jess” Damien started and trailed off. He was so so so so grateful. Finally, Damiens shoulders relaxed again and he could lean into Jess’ embrace.
As long as they got to be themselves around each other, he wouldn’t mind to act as whatever outside. They had an excuse for the hand holding and he wasn’t fond of public display of affections anyways, Damien thought.  Just … why did it feel like such a loss, still.
“ … you’re great” he found, finally finishing the sentence.
“Thank you… You’re great, too.” she whispered, happy to share such precious moments with him. Jess could feel his shoulders relaxing, his breath becoming even. After all this time together, she was starting to pick up in these small things as well.
Pulling back a little, she leaned in for another kiss. The moment their lips touched, the corners of her lips shot upwards in a small smile. Sure, they’d have to keep their relationship a secret a little longer. But now? Now they were alone and free to do as they pleased. So this was a good moment to enjoy themselves.

Analogical/Royality Sanders Academy of the Performing Arts!AU Part 3
Part 1 | Part 2
In which Grae is too invested in her own AU but it makes me happy so... have a part 3. ^u^ Shoutout to @creativenostalgiastuff for helping me out with Patton’s key line in this new installment.
Warnings: low self esteem, smidge of angst, fluff and softness in droves
So yeah Roman and Patton are standing in the middle of the practice room and Roman still has his arm around Patton’s waist and one hand against his cheek and they’re so close their noses almost brush.
Roman’s wondering if its possible for his heart to break his ribs with how hard it’s pounding waiting for Patton to answer.
And there’s a long moment where Patton doesn’t say anything at all. Because Roman... Roman is looking at him with such a soft devotion that a part of Patton can’t quite believe it’s a look meant for him. Roman--kind, brave, noble Roman--wants to choose him.
And there’s something kind of raw about the moment, too. Because Patton has known Roman long enough to see both the bravado and facade of fearlessness he’s put forward to protect himself, and he’s seen when it’s stripped away in the late hours of the night. And this... this moment, with Roman so close to him, asking Patton to let Roman love him... that look in his eyes definitely falls into the latter category.
Roman takes a breath as if to say something else--Patton realizes in that very second that he hadn’t actually responded yet--but they’re interrupted by the sound of Patton’s phone ringing.
And Patton... well he’s selfless perhaps to a fault, so when he sees that it’s Virgil, of course he answers. And Patton can’t help but notice the twinge in his chest when Roman pulls back. He’s just trying to give Patton space to answer the phone but there’s an abrupt sense of absence as Roman’s weight and heat so close to him suddenly vanishes.
And it’s kind of silly, really. Because Virgil just called to ask if he should lock the door before he goes to bed. And Patton tells him that he expects to be home before too long.
Meanwhile, as Patton talks to his roommate, Roman is trying to discreetly pull himself together. Because his heart might just give out on him entirely and he’s berating himself a little. You backed him into a corner. His hesitation is obviously a polite rejection. Get your stuff and get out before you start crying and making it worse--
“Roman?”
Roman schools his features into something like neutral before he whirls around and starts grabbing his jacket from where he’d tossed it over the piano bench. He wants to get out of here as fast as he can because he may be a decent actor but he thinks if he looks Patton in the eyes again, it’d be the nail in the coffin and he’s barely keeping it together as is.
“I should really get going, Patton,” he’s saying without looking at him. “I’m truly sorry if I made you uncomfortable. It wasn’t my intention, but that doesn’t excuse--”
He’s halfway across the room towards the door before he feels a hand enclose around his own and a soft, “Roman. Wait.”
And he does. He still doesn’t look at him, but he stops. Almost against his will, his fingers close gently over Patton’s grip.
He can see Patton in his peripheral step up closer to him and it’s almost painful how much Roman wants to wrap his arms around Patton and pull him closer. But he doesn’t.
“Look at me? Please?” It’s a request, not a demand. One spoken gently in the space between them. And it takes him a moment to gather himself and scrape together the courage but Roman does. He looks up and meets Patton’s eyes.
“Of course I’d give ya the chance,” Patton says quietly, something bright and sincere and earnest in his eyes, “Any time you’re ready to take it.”
And Roman just kinda releases a slightly emotional breath and gives him a small grin and pulls him closer and they’re looking at each other and then both ask,
“Can I kiss you?”
And it’s the first kiss of many.
Oof I promise an update on the Analogical side of this AU is coming. This has hecking ran away from me as a concept but I’m along for the ride. Thanks to all of you who are also here. Heh. ^u^

Larry Fink
I fell in love with photography started from the end of last semester and I am glad that I made a right decision, taking photography class this semester. Larry Fink, born in 1941 in Brooklyn, New York, is the author of the first photography book I have ever bought—Larry Fink on composition and improvisation. A two-time National Endowment for the Arts Fellow and a Guggenheim Fellow, Larry Fink is currently a professor at Bard College in New York. I remembered exactly that I purchased this book from International Center of Photography Museum. Since I started to take photography class as I wished, it only makes sense if I decided to read some photography-related books for fun. After I finish the book, Larry Fink has showed me some tricks of composition for sure.
He has this series of 34 works spanning from late 1970s through mid 80s called “Social Graces” where he explored social class in America. “Social Graces” not only captured the behaviors of high-class society, but also the culture and humanity of low-class people. The New York Times puts it this way, “The series pointedly compares two radically divergent worlds: that of wealthy Manhattanites at places like Studio 54 and art museum openings and that of rural, working-class Pennsylvanians celebrating events like high school graduations”. The charm of humanity lies in his work. Fink says in his book, “As an exercise in empathy and photography, go out into the world and try to photograph a whole palette of different human emotions and breadth of experience”. Human emotions are so vivid and diverse in “Social Graces”. Here is one work with six kinds of human emotions from the series. Foreground is a young lady feeding a man with snack or something. Her emotions are quite hard to describe, making me wonder what was happening there at that moment. Middle ground has another pair who seem to watch the scene right in front of them. I can tell the lady was having a good time. The middle gentlemen may be her boyfriend as he leans towards her. His face is covered, but his eyes are looking straight at the front man. Does he want a bite too? The emotions on the back are even harder to guess as if they were out of the story. Anyway, Fink’s camera captured that exact moment of human being expressing all kinds of emotions that are so unique, making us different from animals.
Tumblr media
In later half of this series, He captured the rural life of a Pennsylvanian family. I love this one the most. The picture captured the twelfth birthday party of the boy holding cake. Emotions are also very expressive. The boy looks so careful when he holds the cake as if not dropping the cake is the only thing is his mind while the little stares at the cake as if eating the cake is the only thing in her mind. The boy’s grandma, I guess, looks like she is losing her patience and the auntie on the background looks emotionless. Those four people form a story there. Other stories come from a good trick of composition that Fink showed me —the use of edges. There’s an astray on the left side being pulled out of the picture, a can of coke on the bottom being poured off the edge, and a girl in a T-shirt on the right side looking outside of the frame. All these elements are pulling away from the center. However, the density of the drama at the center is so complete and full of tension. Two groups of people showed me emotions in different settings. Rich people and low-class people have a very different life. I can’t say no to that, but they all have the charm of human expressions and Larry Fink was the one that captured them. I admire how he can observe all those kinds of emotions and record them with his shots. Human beings’ emotions are all gorgeous.
Tumblr media
The second series of work is called “Boxing”. “Fink captures the subculture of boxing through its champions and challengers, its ambition-fueled gyms and rowdy rings and overheated atmospheres of locker rooms, as well as the many fascinating people—among them coaches, trainers, mothers, fathers, girlfriends, and spectators—who populate this world,” says the Philadelphia museum of art. His passion for boxing started in 1986 with an assignment of shooting sportsman Jimmy Jacobs, who was also the manager of Mike Tyson. If last series are about the charm of human emotions, then this one focuses on the beauty of human body—the curves and lines of muscles. Fink used a lot of flash in both series of works. Yet, the flash serves different purposes. In “Social Graces”, flash helped Fink capture “a whole palette of different human emotions” while it was used to create and emphasize the shadow and lines of the boxer’s body curves. In another word, the flash is the key to those reflections of sweat and shadow of lines on the body. In this work, Fink ran into a scene of a boxer talking with a manger-like person while he put on his chain. The flash helped the camera take down every line of the boxer’s muscular back. The flash makes them the only two in the picture and nothing else in the background. The contrast between pure black and the reflection on the boxer’s back induces me to fully focus on the details of that powerful back. Larry Fink is not only good at capturing detailed emotions, but also capturing unsentimental world of body movements.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One thing remains the same—his composition skills. I still can find similar uses of edges in this series just like the previous one. The little corner of the table in the bottom left of this picture keeps the boxer embattled inside the context of space, making the whole picture look complete and more tensional. In the book I read, he says, “Fools like myself, though very much involved with the moment and the context and the various ways we can see as human being, are totally absorbed by these tiny little details in order to see how best to describe to the viewer, the audience, the way it felt to be alive inside that space, right there an then”. It encourages me to go further and deeper on the path of photography. While this series shows me the beauty of boxer’s bodies and muscles during their training, it also shows how hard those boxers’ practice and I take it as encouragement for me to continue photographing.

Aparna Nancherla’s Comedy Diary: ‘Inspiration Is Like the Urge to Pee’
Friday
11:40 a.m. Gym. As I use the elliptical, I wonder about all the substances I put in my body; I picture my GI tract as a Wall Street trading floor with various liquids and solids yelling into phones, making demands of the rest of my sorry organs.
12:45 p.m. Race back to my apartment to shower and pack for the Solid Sound Festival in North Adams, Mass., tomorrow. I succeed in my goal of getting to Penn Station just before they announce our gate.
2:20 p.m. As a self-employed “creative,” I feel like I’m supposed to be good at working in transit. “Stand-up?” “I’ll write on the bus.” “The commissioned essay?” “I’ll whip something up on the train.” “My taxes?” “I’ll do them on the redeye.” Guess what? It never happens. On this train I make a set list for tomorrow, read parts of a book and play several games of Candy Crush. Don’t worry, I’ve berated myself thoroughly without your judgment, thanks.
Saturday
9:30 a.m. Music festivals make me nervous. I figure people are there to see music, not comedy, and that kicks off the roll call of negative thoughts: What if they hate me? What if I have to walk around a bunch of people I just bombed in front of? Why does it matter? Why do I matter? Why does my ego get in the way of just existing? And so on. Nothing perseveres like anxiety.
10:35 a.m. Sound check. Thankfully, the comedy venue is indoors and apart from the music stage; it’s got an art museum vibe. I meet John Hodgman, who organizes the comedy show portion of the festival, as well as the other producers. It’s low-key in the green room, designed to make you feel at ease. But my nerves are like, “At ease? [Expletive] you! This is our time to shine.”
12 p.m. To try to calm my nerves I listen to an old set — it reminds my brain that I’ve done this before.
2 p.m. John Hodgman hosts the afternoon segment with Jean Grae, a comic and hip-hop artist from Brooklyn. They do a live version of his podcast, Judge John Hodgman, where he arbitrates issues people are having (e.g. one man is concerned about his girlfriend putting her drinking glass on top of the toilet). The crowd is warm and engaged, and Rhea Butcher, the L.A. comic who performs before me, has a killer set. I realize maybe my anxiety has no place here. Still, I take some meds — propranolol — to keep me from getting too shaky.
