📚 Currently reading: The World's First Lovei by Fulton J. Sheen, Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace
🎵 Currently listening: Corey Hart, "Sunglasses at Night"
Although I'm embarrassed to admit it, I had to drop my independent precalculus class. I understood the first few lessons, and then I reached one that I could understand none of. I'm disappointed, but I will move on. I'll probably go back to coding?
30 Days of Productivity
Day 15: Do you play video games?
Kind of... I have "Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp" on my phone, but I tend to feel sick playing video games now. I used to have a Nintendo DS and a Wii, which I would play a lot.
Today's Tasks
[X] Go to Target
[X] Start Infinite Jest
[X] Bike ride
[X] Core exercise
Spanish (Duolingo app -> Imperfect Tense -> Complete all lessons)
Write poetry
[X] Augustine Institute Short Courses (start "Discipleship in the Gospels")
[X] Codecademy (Learn HTML -> HTML Document Standards -> Preparing for HTML to Opening Links in a New Window)

I feel so productive today. I've wanted to read this particular article ages ago and I've postponed reading it long enough. It's about the association between the SLC6A4 gene (also known as the serotonin transporter gene) and schizophrenia.
The last couple of weeks I've been unable to study due to some issues but when I resolved them I didn't find the energy to study. And thus, this blog is made. I made this blog with the intent of sharing with you my journey as a genetics student. And I'm sticking to my words—it helps me get motivated to get things done.
Anyway, how is your day?

Hello there how are you doing ?
4 months left until graduation. 4 months before becoming a doctor :)) Life is rough and exhausting. Everyone is so stressed out and suspicious since they aren’t enough places for all of the students. I might chose internal medicine.
I try to stay out of this toxic environnement. I hate competition.
I hope you guys are doing good. May we all be walking safely and peacefully towards our goals.
Take care.

You should never have shame about your academic journey. It's a journey. You're growing and learning. You're going to face challenges alone for one of the first times in your life. Shit's hard. It's ok to struggle.
I haven't had a pretty journey at all. I'm graduating with a bachelor's degree at 25. I've been in college nonstop since I was 18. I've failed a lot of classes and had to go part time. So many things have happened. But I will have the degree. And that degree is worth the exact same as someone who got it in 3 years. The knowledge I have is mine to keep.
How I got here doesn't matter. I'm here. I am going to graduate in a few months. I have won this chapter of my life. And to those who try to shame me for how I got here and how long it took, I pray that you never experience the things I have that have made it take long. May you live a life of comfort and luxury and have hands soft as silk until you die. And hopefully I will get the same grace from the universe eventually.

2024.04.10 | Day 81/100 days of productivity
Slept in today and that extra sleep seems to have made all the difference to my mood and energy levels (who knew!). I'm hoping to get done with my decision analysis final essay either today or tomorrow so I can edit and move on to my research proposal for qualitative methods (and eventually get back to the research - which I actually enjoy (no offence to my professors)).
Today's goals:
Drink water (2/3)
Finish readings for tomorrow
Finish first draft of decision analysis final essay
Have a good formal dinner :)
Do at least 1 load of laundry
Get enough sleep

spring break came and went in the blink of an eye, but it was lots of fun! met up with friends from HS, went to disneyland, and spent time with my family. I also still did some work over break that was time sensitive, but I can't really complain :)
its officially past the halfway point of the semester and i can see the finish line. ahhhh. i also realize i need to start studying more for my classes because things are getting more complex... BUT WE WILL SURVIVE

Studyblr Intro Post
Hi fellow scholars! I’ve had this blog since 2018 but I figured it was finally time to make a studyblr introduction post. Check out below the cut to learn a bit about me.
About Me
I write under the name Esther (a name my boyfriend uses for me). I am in my mid-20s. I’m a nerd for mid-century and academic fashion. That means I try to fit most of my style into the dark and light academia aesthetics. But I also exercise a lot, so in real life, you’d tend to find me in t-shirts and jeans. I don’t subscribe to the philosophies behind personality tests, but my temperament is Melancholic-Choleric, if you’re into the four humors. 😉
I am physically and cognitively disabled from a head injury I had in high school. The injury affected just about everything in my life, but I continue to recover as the years go on. Some of my posts will focus specifically on disability and academia. Always stay open to what anger and stubbornness can accomplish!
Academics
I am currently in my first year of online studies at Franciscan University in Ohio, for a Master of Arts in Theology and Christian Ministry with a concentration in Catechetics. Biblical studies was not the field I expected to go into for most of college, but I am excited to see where it takes me. I’ll probably go into education at this point, but my dream is to go to a Ph.D. program for neuropsychology.
For undergraduate studies, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Humanities. I wrote a book with a small colloquy for my Humanities capstone, which was published and sold by my college bookstore. We discussed Charles Dickens’s novel A Tale of Two Cities and I wrote about theological themes and conversion in the novel.
I speak English (native), Spanish (working proficiency), and modern Hebrew (beginner). Spanish and Hebrew are always in progress. Apparently my accent is perfect for both. I studied some Koine Greek in middle school and want to study that, ancient Hebrew, and Latin in graduate school. Future modern languages I am interested in learning are French, German, and maybe Chinese.
Interests
Books: classic literature, great works, theology, existentialist writing
Hobbies: sewing, playing piano (classical, jazz, and some contemporary music), exercise, writing, spending time with my dogs, language learning, studying theology
Music: classical, jazz, indie pop (specifically Belle and Sebastian), orchestral goth, Gregorian chant
I enjoy meeting new friends, so drop me a chat if you’d like to connect!
- Esther

Hello!
I don't really know what to write here but hello all! My name is Annie and I'm 23. I'll be using this blog to share my thoughts and experiences as a graduate student who wants to get a PhD in genetics someday!
I'm not really in a Master's program at the moment, but I graduated Pharmacy School and I'm taking courses on genetics to help me in my journey of getting a degree in genetics.
I'm greatly interested in evolution (this was just an expected result of my obsession with genetics) so I will also use this blog to explain how it works to curious souls.
So...I think this works as a first post...I guess? I would love to meet you all.

Another desk photo, but I thought the math looked fancy 😆
I'm currently racing to catch up with my self studied AP Physics C work after learning its probably the most important test I'm taking credit-wise.
It's been so weird walking around the school and counting down the days till I graduate. There's a lot I won't miss, but there's also physics class with all my friends and the teacher I've best gotten to know over three years, the GSA club meetings every wednesday, and the free-period study sessions in the library. I know what's coming next will be fun, but I am sad to leave what I have now.

2024.02.29 | Day 40/100 days of productivity
Happy leap day!! My day is pretty calm, with an NVIVO workshop in my class this afternoon (which I think I may already know most of) and otherwise just grinding away to get my communicable disease term paper drafted. I don't have any classes tomorrow so I'll just push all my readings for next week until then. After this term paper, the last big assignment I hjave this semester is my thesis proposal, so I should be able to get back into doing more of my research shortly.
I hope you all have a lovely and productive day!
Today's goals:
Qualitative methods class
Draft communicable disease term paper
Drink water (0/2)
Pick up prescription
Buy a few groceries on the way home
Read before bed
