"Hey Shoresy?"

"Yeah?"

"Got a question for ya." You're sprawled out on his sofa while he grabs a beer for each of you from the fridge. For once, the apartment is quiet - the others are out doing God knows what, and Shoresy told you he doesn't expect them back for hours. "Heard you say something to Laura Mohr and been ponderin' it."

Shoresy snorts. "Didn't your parents tell ya it's rude to listen in on other people's conversations?"

He comes over and sits down, and you grab your beer from him. "How can I not when you're declaring your eternal devotion for the whole stadium to hear, ya nut??" He's already opened your bottle for you, and you take a long sip.

"Nah, but really," you continue, "I heard you tell her 'I swear to God I'd be so good to ya' and I just...wondered what that actually meant?"

He shrugs as he settles into one of the side chairs. " 'S not that complex," he says. "Just, ya know, the standard stuff - foot massages at the end of the day, helpin' her with the kids, glass o' wine or hooch if she wants it...bein' present, you get it."

"I do," you admit. "Sounds fuckin' divine, in fact."

"Ya say that like ya don't have it right now."

Damn him, he's observant. "Nope," you tell him. "This old girl's gotta handle things on her own - which isn't easy when I've managed to fuck up my back and neck." You wince as you sit up. "Doesn't help that every damn chiropractor in this town is booked up."

"Maybe I can fix it?" Shoresy asks. "C'mon, make room..." Before you can stop him, he sits down next to you and has you turn your back to him. "Specific spots or is the whole column fuckin' with ya?"

"Neck, shoulders and lower back."

"Gotcha." He starts with your shoulders, huffing in annoyance when he feels the tension there. "Holy fuck, woman, you been sleepin' on a rock pile?"

You chuckle at his indignation. "Might as well - I think the bed at my place is older than I am."

"Swear to God I'm gonna kick your landlord's ass for that," Shoresy mutters, mostly to himself.

The idea of Shoresy getting protective over you makes your stomach flip - he's never talked that way before. To avoid analyzing that feeling, you crack a joke: "Less vengeance talk and more spinal realignment, yeah?"

"Yeah, yeah...lemme just...." He digs a thumb into a sore spot and you yelp.

"Shoresy, what the fuck!"

"Cool your jets, 'm tryin' to find where the actual muscle pull is..." He keeps poking, and you're about to stand up from the couch and shove him away when he lets out a noise of triumph. "Found it!"

"You're full of shit, man, I- oh!" Your protest cuts off as you slump into him - the sudden lack of stiffness in your shoulder makes you feel like a popped balloon.

He makes sure to catch you, and you can hear the grin in his voice. "Told ya I could fix it. Want me to get the rest?" You nod, and within five minutes, your whole back feels better than it has in ages.

"How ya feelin'?" he asks as your eyes close.

"Fuckin' divine," you tell him. "I'll give Laura my endorsement for you first thing in the morning..."

You drift off on his chest, so you don't know if you actually hear him say "No rush..." or if it was just your imagination.

Hey people, it's been a minute.

Let's talk about one of my favourite third culture characters, Amethyst from Steven Universe.

I'm gonna preface this by saying she in one of my top kins and I am so excited to be talking about her.

So the thing about my girl Amethyst, her third cultureness is very... understated... In that isn't not a major plotpoint.

I'm pretty sure this is because Steven already comes with a fair bit of the usual third culture angst and structurally it wouldnt make sense for them to both have the exact same character arc, especially being so close.

And honestly I don't think it's nesserary a bad thing. As much as a third culture character like Spider from Avatar can complement and enrich the narrative by being third culture, a character like Amethyst can do some pretty tangible good by just existing as she is (wich makes sense cuz that's kinda touched on in her character arc)

Her third cultureness isn't egnored: she's unlike the other Cristal Gems in that she's picked up human habits like eating and sleeping, playing video games, watching TV, having human friends, being the first to use phones (as well as being much more culturally American in general).

Her non human side is shown pretty cleverly. She's a gem of course, does and knows alot of gem stuff, but in particular, because she's immortal and doesn't need basically anything to survive, she can be super disregarding of things humans need to make money and live off, or will take them time and energy they don't always have to fix (just like the other Cristal Gems)

This totally feeds into her immaturity, since she didn't develop under the strict culture of Homeworld like all the other gems, but the chill, flowy environment that is beach city. Pair that with the fact of her having basically no physical chalanges while living on earth and you can see how she would develop an "the whole world is my playground" mentality.

Speaking of her development, let's talk about that!

*Proceeds to rant about character design for a while*

Ok so her shapeshisfting powers are super interesting, because as we can gleen from the movie, when she first emerges she copied and shapeshisfted into who or whatever she came across to get her bearings.

(I'm gonna say that's some developmental issue unique to her or maybe all overcooked gems, since we see other quartzes emerge and they don't do that, maybe that's coding for something, not sure).

Her copying is very in character for a third culture kid, and if you look at her formations in order it kinda seems like she's inadvertantly copying the developmental pattern of a human child? (over a much longer time ofc). Then she went through a long pase of partially covering her gem with her shirt and also after a while she gives herself bra straps wich (much like the extra cleavege rose gave herself) she absolutely couldn't have needed, probably copying humans.

Then in future her design speaks volumes! Her top and shoes are that gem-wear seran wrap stuff, ofc with that little unnecessary rip around her gem cuz she gotta. And then those cute frayed jorts with the stars on being so human and organic. It's all really saying, "I'm a bit of both worlds and we all cool with it."

More thoughts on the rip: it could be ripping the gem-wear to say I'm not JUST a gem, highlighting her human side, it could be there to reveal her gem/draw attention to it like "I'm Amethyst, loud and proud", it could be just cuz she really f***** loves ripped clothes. Idc wich any works good 4 her.

It really shows her full journey of self acceptance.

I feel like alot of the emotional pitfalls Amethyst runs into during her character arc are also very relatable to me at least as a third culture person, even if in her case they aren't directly realted.

Feelings of guilt for existing, feelings of not belonging, self isolation, feelings of not being good enough, comparing yourself to others and rebelliousness are all pretty common.

So it makes nothing but sence for her to be quietly third culture.

REBECA you could have chosen ANY other Cristal Gem from this one.

The problem here is, I could see a bunch of humans discriminating against Amethyst for whatever reason actually having an impact on her. Amethyst is the ONLY cristal gem who could tangibly be vulnerable to any form of gem racism, garnet and pearl would just pick the haters up and put them back over the fence.

This whole thing is just highlighting how you didn't explore that angle. Not to mention that the whole show established her to be very close to humanity, and then she just turns to the camera and says "wtf, I'm actually nothing like people"? It just feels wrong.

Also you gave my girl the most handfisted one, idk why those two googly eyed toddlers having a detailed understanding of the neuances of racism seems somewhere between unrealistic and straight up bizarre.

(Ok I tell a lie, the guitar dad one was kinda a mess but nobody even remembers that one so whatever)

That aside, this one should have been on Garnet, she is the most detached from humans of the trio (except for pearl, but I think she's better in that classroom scenario), she should have been the one saying "yea, comparing us ist right" and it would have made sence because it's already evident in the show.

Amethyst should have been the one at the playground, she doesn't even have to drop out of the sky, its AMETHYST! she can totally just be hanging there.

They did her so dirty! At the end she even gets pissed off about having to stay longer to fix the thing SHE had a problem with.

Don't get me wrong, ist an invaluable message and Im totally on board but gurl what happened?

You know for a team I have not watched regularly since 2020, random facts about the Dallas Stars sure are lodged in my head like immovable truths of the universe. If I ever find a program that can help me create an interactive timeline in a way that makes sense in my brain I'm creating a timeline of Dallas Stars information from the Seguin trade -> now and it's over for you hoes* (*me specifically, I am the hoes). Like I, who am generally bad at dates and numbers, just have various Stars' players rookie seasons/fresh outta Cedar Park seasons just taking up space in my brain for no reason?? Why. This timeline would also include such important cultural moments in Dallas Stars as Roope Hintz's haircuts and Finnish mafia contracts, information which is also just. in my stupid brain doing jack. This timeline would serve zero purpose and enrich humanity not at all but at least this information would be OUT of my HEAD

Anyway I have not been talking abt it because a) don't want to give details when the overall arc of the plot is still tenuously coming together, b) had to do a bunch of research for some finicky mental-illness-in-WWII-veterans but I haven't been able to make myself go digging on SciHub/LibraryGenesis/Google Scholar to see if anything I learned from Band of Brothers/The Pacific postwar fanfic is grounded in reality. But in my current state as someone who cannot watch videos or TV without getting sick but also can't really leave the house for long periods of time, I finally started digging into the research I need to do for it. I'm writing a Dallas Stars WWII postwar au for Fandom Trumps Hate!

I'm very excited about it, especially as I start digging into the historical pieces I need to make it come together and things start to (slowly, so slowly) fall into place. I haven't written a historical au in uhhhhhhh a while and haven't ever written one that was really built around serious hurt/comfort. obvs do not want to just be shooting from the hip when it comes to mental illness, particularly in veterans, but I wanted to be challenged, and so here I am, digging through Google Scholar annotations lol. (There's also stuff I need to research on Canada in WWII, gay men in the 1940s/during WWII etc etc etc, bc it's been a while since I looked any of that up lmao...historians scare me so I am like I must not make TOO much shit up....)

BUT the reason I was thinking abt the internal timeline my brain carries about the Dallas Stars from the past 5 years despite the fact that I could be using that space for LITERALLY anything else, is bc my bidder requested a bunch of older players (which is great for me to be clear - if there's one thing I'm always gonna do, it's gaze lovingly at pictures of Stephen Johns) but said that if I wanted to add newer players feel free. So I tried to balance out Old Guys with some younger players who I love or am interested in learning more about. Gotta give those old men some youth to keep em humble yk. But I wanted to de-age everyone by about 5-6 years from their ages irl just like...given the timeline of the war, bc so many of the older guys are like well into their 30s rn and I didn't want anyone to be career military. BUT!! I was making my little list of birthdates and ages relative to each other and now I'm like. If I de-age Wyatt Johnston by 6 years. He will be 14. tf is a 14 year old doing hanging out with a bunch of men in their late 20s. This is not LiveJournal. Or like Miro Heiskanen and Jason Robertson who I also wanted to include bc I love them, will be 17. I liked the logistical challenge of having a couple of Finnish guys and American guys in this au that takes place in Canada but also, what is a 17 year old Filipino-American kid doing in Vancouver yk. also like girl help do I really want to dig into anti-miscegenation laws in California and Canada 😭😭 shit was not repealed in California until the late 40s. how far down the rabbit hole do I go with historical accuracy this fic is supposed to be about some gay asses finding relief from the Horrors in community, together

Anyway, all. ALL. of this information about the Stars is going to be in my head for the rest of my life. I am going to forget everything historical as soon as I hit post on AO3 but will be in my 60s knowing that Wyatt Johnston was born in 2003 or that my dad and Roope Hintz share a birthday (kings). Like god forbid I remember my own family or friends' birthdays but I will definitely find use for the information that Miro and Jason's birthdays are four days apart or that Miro and Joe Pavelski and Jamie Benn all have the same birthday. Fashionably late to my own anniversary posting lol you know it’s gotta get emotional under the cut <3

I am SO so extremely thankful I was graced with finding ghost and especially when I did, it truly couldn’t have been any more perfectly timed 🥹💙 By then I didn’t know who I was anymore and didn’t know where to go in life. I was so lost and felt so isolated from everything, even myself in a way. I’m extremely grateful for Tobias not only making nothing but bops but also creating such deeply rich in detail and lovable characters in an equally deeply enriched world where we have the freedom to sculpt both out however best makes us happy 💜 Thanks to ghost I also found Repugnant, and Mary Goore who helped me realize and accept I’m non-binary and that has been extremely life changing for the better as well. Ghost has been in the best and fullest sense life changing, healing me, doing so much good for me making me feel so completely whole again I can’t even come close to trying to encapsulate it all into proper words! 🩷 Without, I would have never met @copias-girl who is so so extremely talented and as sweet as they come, inspiring me to have the confidence to step out of my comfort zone in the first place and because of that I’m even lucky enough to have met such equally mind blowingly sweet, talented, and wonderfully beautiful people inside and out like @ghost-bc-gf-enjoyer and @spooky-creamo-for-primo <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 I love all my beautiful mutuals, love seeing y’all on my dash and being able to give just as much happiness hopefully that I am brought by being graced with your presence <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 It’s like I’ve been given another chance in life and the boost I needed to become better for myself and others and I’m only inspired to keep going non stop to be better and better as the years come. January was a month of complete escapism, as it usually is for me. Whenever I have the chance to escape from my exam session and spend time with my family, I take it, and so, I spent a month of undeserved enjoyment. My ordinary winter blues were transformed into a tropical escapade, followed by much wanderlust and skiing with my family, and although that was definitely not the most productive way to spend the weeks before my exams, it was definitely the most enjoyable. What I can say is that those days of relaxment gave me the time and clarity to understand what I want in my life this year, and what I want for myself overall. 

To be inspired

February presented itself as a month of self realization after so much self conceptualization. It’s a month to practice what I’ve been preaching, and so far so good. This month it’s been esssential to surround myself with things that I find inspiring, with media that enrichs my way of seeing life. I think everyone reaches a certain point in their life when they need to purge negativity out of their lives… for a while, I ‘ve been consuming content that’s made me think to myself: what is this adding to my life? And so, recently, I’ve let my ideals guide my media consumption. Positivity is what’s in, and, as stupid as it may sound, the movie Anyone But You was the first step towards this ideal. 

I think it opened my eyes to how good Fell Good movies can make you feel. And it made me question why I’d been turning my head from the beautiful towards the grotesque, thinking it would be more intellectually fulfilling. I think no one here is a stranger to the queen of Feel Good, Nancy Myers. I’m both a romance and interior design enthusiast, so her movies feel twice as rewarding to me, and honestly, I feel like there are many many many romcoms from the 2000s that fall into that dual category. Another way Nancy’s movies boost my seratonin is the Family Factor. I’m a sucker for romances which’s plots also have to do with families, their dynamics and whatnot. Father of the Bride, The Big Wedding, Something’s Gotta Give, It’s complicated, Everyone says I love you… All Prime examples of that. 

Staying on the romance theme, let’s talk Nicolas Sparks movies. I don’t know if I’m mega attached to them because of how obsessed I was with that “genre” back when I was little, but I do know that these movies smell of home to me. I always adore the visuals, the closeness to nature, and how the protagonists’ love almost always blooms in the midst of beautiful sceneries. Not to mention the fashion, which, I know, some may call millennial, but I will proudly call girl next door chic. Not to mention the underlying religious themes, which I have to admit are sort of comforting. Although it may not be a real Nicolas Sparks movie, I feel like Endless Love could definitely sneak into that category, and I could not make a February guideline without mentioning it. I don’t know why, but I’ve simply been obsessed with it, the music, the clothes, the beauty, everything.

Beauty isn’t anything without a soul, and so I’d definitely recommend watching Catwalk, the 1995 documentary that followed Christy Turlington around during the 1994 S/S fashion month. Not only does it reveal the vapid side of fashion we’ve all heard insiders snicker about, as it also reveals the liveliness of it all. I was honestly relieved to see to many genuine friendships being captured, and although there was some general bitchiness, there was a lot of passion, and camaraderie too - so many girls just being girls around other girls. And Christy is honestly just a ray of sunlight, and it’s inspiring to see her dealing with hardships with such grace. 

To wear

Loveshackfancy dresses + thights

I think it’s no news that I adoreee loveshackfancy. I usually retire my dresses to wear them once again in spring, however, lately i’ve been loving to pair a nice floral dresses with thights, boots and a huge coat. Any sort of flowy dress will do to be completely honest… I guess it’s less about what you wear and how you wear it… after having stuck so closely to more “traditional” winter wear, which to me basically means straight fits, dark colors, an overall heaviness, I’ve been enjoying to play a bit more with textures and channel my inner preppy-bohoness. 

Light colored sweaters

I think it goes with the last topic. Recently all dark outfits have become my nightmare, and I feel like they really bring my mood down. I guess, when you need lightness, you need to become light. And that’s what this month has been all about to me: trying to incorporate these ideals and reflect them onto the world has been essential to me. And soemtimes a light colored sweater does all the difference. Instead of reaching for my usual black turtleneck, why not go for a cream off the shoulder sweater? Or a rose cardigan?

I’d been looking for a signature perfume for a while, and I ‘ve found it on a reinterpretation of a favourite of mine from my childhood/ teenage years. It’s young, it’s bright and it’s delicate, a fragrance that can be so personal, making people want to get a second whiff without ever being invasive of others’ spaces. It was inspired by Keats’ poem “To autumn”, which talks about the transition from summer to autumn, and I feel like this transitory aspect can definitely be smelt. 

Tweed purses

Naturally, everyone’s minds goes to the classic chanel flap in tweed, but I honestly think tweed purses can go way bwyond Chanel. I think I’ve previously expressed my love for tweed, but honestly, I feel like it’s a super versatile style both in terms of the seasons when it can be worn and the vibes it can channel. Tweed to me represents can be both  traditional and almost bohemian, depending on the type of tweed we’re working with and how you’d style it. Tweed purses just elevate any outfit, and bring an element of fun to them too! 

Wrap Cardigan

This is more on the aspirational side, because I’ve been LONGING  for a good wrap cardigan with a nice rustic motif. Isabel Marant has some gorgeous ones, as does Ralph Lauren, but, if I had to ask Santa Claus for a belated christmas gift, I’d ask for a an Alanui knit wrap jacket, those are simply la crème de la crème. If I had to describe my ultimate end of winter outfit, it’d be a pair of jeans, flats, a white blouse and a wrap cardigan! It’s cosy but still put together I can’t explain.

HELLO ???? obi-wan's devotion to anakin's children despite everything that anakin has done ?? literally no one touches ME !!!! these two are FAMILY. BONDED FOR LIFE. DRIFT COMPATIBLE. it's no secret i'm not a sequels fan and i've always said if ANYONE in the sw universe deserved to be a fucking force dyad its these two and this show really is saying you are CORRECT to bitch about it. and i love that. i mean obi-wan is HAUNTED the whole show is about love & kindness & grief & trauma and obi-wan being haunted and i absolutely love that. i love that we're taking our time building up to a big fight, that obi is rusty and emotionally wounded and struggling. he has ptsd and its exactly what i wanted to see. its SO satisfying watching him rebuilt his confidence and find himself again. and the fact that it's all motivated by LEIA ??? of all people ??? oh this deepens and enriches a new hope SO much. what a great great great idea. i didn't know i needed uncle obi this badly but FUCK. it hits. every damn time.

speaking of leia she is PERFECT. the writing for her is sooooo good. you can see the ways she's gonna grow into the character we know so well and love so much. and we can see the way the experiences she's having in this show shape the character we know. its all very clever. i'm living for it. @ sw dude bros complaining about the child i'll fucking fight you, you dicks. that little actress is doing SUCH a great job. and god, i know the show's ~leia & padme are similar agenda is strong but as a ANAKIN & LEIA ARE THE SAME believer, i am LIVING for her characterization. she's SUCH a mini anakin in so many ways. ofc anakin & padme are very similar too in that they're stubborn and fierce and passionate etc. but i feel so fucking vindicated. (and sad lbr because in an au where he doesn't fall, anakin would have loved her SO much and she'd have been such a daddy's girl. :((( they'd watch spaceships together and he'd improve her droids for her :((()

i'm also really enjoying tala (an ACTUAL QUEEN) & reva. i think there's work that needs to be done re: reva's backstory & motivation to fully develop her as a character but i'm nowhere near as bothered by it as other people online have been.... like... the only two inquisitors we know that much about are thrilla in jedi fallen order and the grand inquisitors in rebels. and even THEN that fantastic backstory is what ??? he was a jedi temple guard ??? that's...... it ??? we barely know anything about him ??? like... people will bitch and bitch about reva being underdeveloped (even tho the show isn't even FINISHED) but let's be real, a lot of the inquisitors ARE pretty one-dimensional ???? but hey, when it's a woc the character and writing gotta be perfect otherwise........ its so fucking annoying that sw fans are like that -.- . like... i want more from her too, don't get me wrong. mostly because she's badass and super smart and kinda scary and I'm INTRIGUED by her intensity. but I'm not particularly bothered yet.

the weakest part for me was no jokes the guy's grand inquisitor's performance. mostly because jason isaacs is unbeatable in my mind. (its unfair to the new guy i know i can't help it :///) but now with what happened in ep 2 i don't even know if its the same character so *shrug* idk idk. i'm really hoping we get resolution/more info re: that.

another thing is that i 100% want more vader & more hayden specifically. because i'm greedy like that. ALL the vader/anakin stuff we've had so far is PERFECT. no notes. 100000/10. he's SUCH a looming presence on the show and SUCH a strong point in it. but yeah, i want more. i can't wait to see the final showdown. i'm hoping for more heartwrenching dialogue and hopefully an attempt to bring him back from obi ??? might be wishful thinking BUT in rotj vader does say 'obi-wan once thought as you did' and lbr.... we have never seen obi-wan in canon thinking hum! vader can be redeemed! so, yk i am waiting. AND i want to see maybe flashbacks ?!! hayden is RIGHT THERE! it'd be a waste not to, right ??? right ??? so yeah, i really hope that happens. but who knows! i'm just enjoying the ride so far because the ride has been SO good lmao.

like..... they made me scared of VADER ??? i've never in my life found vader scary. he makes me sad very often because anakin is my favourite character and his story is heartbreaking. and he makes me cheer because lbr its very satisfying to see vader being a ruthless bitch and a drama queen and walking in and fucking everyone up while making stupid puns and saying raw as fuck lines (then you will die braver than most ????? i fucking love anakin). but scared ??? shit your pants terrifying???? that was a first and i LOVED it. i think deborah chow is doing SUCH a good job filming him to emphasize how nightmarish he is. it's a combination of the horror film vibes + hayden's (& the stunt doubles) posture/movements + ewan REALLY selling obi-wan's horror and fear and vulnerability that just.... makes him sooooo scary. i fucking LOVE it. it's a highlight of the show for me.

though the star remains ewan givng it his ALL. his fucking eyes........ tell a million things. i'm so glad we got him back in this role <3333

so yeah..... i'm dying and having the best time. i waited 17 years and i honestly still can't believe i get to have this tbh ????????

Had a big branch come down off the oak tree, right next to my patio. I went MINE & partially broke it down so I could drag it off to hoard in my patio so it wouldn’t get stolen by clean up crew.

Finally got around to cutting it up the rest of the way just now! The sections on the left are for the hermit crabs, so they can nibble at the lichens, bark, and wood. The two long chunky pieces in the middle are going to go in Charis’s viv, I’ve been wanting more branches sturdy enough for her for AGES. And the tangled mess is about 5 branchy sections for whatever - I’m probably going to put a couple into Spoon’s viv, and I might take one out to the house for partners’ ratty girls to check out & see what they think. The rest will probably get broken down to offer to the crabs or something, we’ll see.
