Title: The Earth Laughs in Flowers
Pairing: Jibeom x gender neutral!reader
Word count: 1.2k
Warnings: n/a
~
Some days, Jibeom finds himself unable to smile.
It isn’t most days, thankfully - he’s got a family that cares for him, friends who find it in themselves to annoy him every day, a cat who likes to wind her way around his legs to the point of tripping him whenever he comes home. He can usually find a reason to smile, even if it’s very small.
But life is annoying, and life is hard. There are days where the gray cloud hanging over him only seems to grow darker and heavier no matter what - his boss being upset at him for something he can’t control, rain pouring overhead on the one day he forgot to bring his umbrella. When that happens, it’s too hard to smile, and Jibeom doesn’t even want to try.
On one of these dark days, he finds himself inside a little florist a street away from his office, one that he always passes by but has never really found a reason to actually explore. Today, though, the rain is pouring too hard for him to make it the next street to his bus stop, so he finds himself ducking into the flower shop as a short respite from the downpour.
A little bell tinkles as he bursts into the shop, hair and clothes damp from his sprint through the streets. He’s so busy digging through his bag, trying to make sure his laptop didn’t get wet when the rain suddenly picked up, that at first he doesn’t notice you approaching him.
“Hello!”
Jibeom jumps, eyes snapping up to take you in. You’re smiling brightly as though the rain outside doesn’t bother you at all, dressed in a green apron stained with bits of dirt and flowers.
“Hello,” he replies cautiously, slinging his bag back over his back. At the last minute he remembers you’re a stranger, not someone he should easily show his annoyance to, so he tries to school his features into a more neutral expression than he’d been showing before.
You don't seem to notice, the smile on your face still as sweet and bright as when he first saw you. “Welcome to my little garden,” you say warmly, gesturing to the expanse of flowers and greenery all around you. “Is there something you were looking for? Or was it just the downpour?”
Jibeom reddens against his will. “Just... just the downpour,” he mumbles. “Sorry about that, I can leave -”
“Oh no, it’s fine!.” You laugh a little. “You’re welcome to stay as long as you need until we close. The rain’s pouring really hard, wouldn’t want you to get sick or anything.”
Jibeom isn’t sure why, but for some reason, tears suddenly begin welling in his eyes. It takes all of his effort to hold them back. “Thanks,” he croaks out, trying to swallow the little lump growing in his throat. “I appreciate it.”
"No problem,” you reply, smiling softly. “If I may ask... you look pretty tired. Had a long day?”
Normally when strangers talk to him, Jibeom closes himself up, mostly just does the bare minimum to seem polite and tries to shut down the conversation as soon as he can. But looking at you now, Jibeom doesn’t feel the walls of his defenses beginning to rise. Instead, he feels them starting to fall.
“Yeah,” he says quietly. “It’s... it’s been a lot.”
“I see.” You nod slightly, lips pressed together in sympathy. “Give me one moment.”
Jibeom watches you walk around the shop, plucking a few flowers of various colors from their places on shelves and in buckets on the floor. At one of the tables, you make quick work of them, snipping stems and trimming leaves until you’ve created a small, pretty bouquet. “Here,” you finally say, extending the flowers to him when you’ve finished. “These are for you.”
He blinks once, twice, looking between you and the flowers. “Sorry, I - what?”
“They’re on the house,” you clarify. “For you.”
Jibeom blinks again. “I - why?”
“The earth laughs in flowers,” you say, smiling as you press the small bouquet into his hands. “I thought that perhaps, if you see the way it laughs, it will help you smile a little too.”
Dumbly, Jibeom closes his fingers around the green stems. The soft, sweet scent of the flowers fills his nose - he recognizes a couple of roses and something that looks like a lily amidst more blooms whose name he doesn’t know. “Thank you,” he whispers, fighting the urge to cry.
“You’re welcome,” you reply, and Jibeom can almost feel the warmth of your voice wrapping around him like a blanket shielding him against the cold outside. “Oh - it looks like the rain stopped!”
Sure enough, it has stopped, only a thin drizzle painting the windows of your shop. Jibeom thanks you again, only slightly less choked this time, then heads out again to catch his bus.
Once he reaches home, Jibeom looks at the flowers still clutched between his fingers. Vaguely he thinks he should find a vase or something similar to put them in, but for now he just stares at them. Bright pink, a sprig of warm yellow, deep blue and pale purple stare back at him, interspersed with leafy greenery. Colorful, warm.
As Jibeom carefully arranges them in a tall glass of water, he realizes the weight of his day no longer feels as heavy as it once was.
He returns to your shop the next day, the sky bright blue with a sun shining bright against the clouds. You’re helping a customer when he arrives, but when you’re finished you turn to him, eyes bright and smile as wide as he remembered.
“Hi!” you exclaim, walking up to him. “How are you?”
Jibeom smiles. “Feeling better,” he replies honestly. “I wanted to thank you again for the flowers. They were beautiful.”
You duck your head in acknowledgement. “Thank you,” you say sweetly. “I’m glad you liked them.”
“I also -” He coughs a little, swallowing down the embarrassment threatening to crawl up his cheeks. “I don’t think I got your name last time.”
“Oh!” For a moment, you look as flustered as he feels. It’s quite endearing, Jibeom thinks as his smile grows wider. “I’m so sorry. My name is Y/N.” You cock your head. “If I may, what’s yours?”
“I’m Jibeom,” he replies. “It’s nice to meet you.”
A conversation arises from there, pleasant and warm and full of lovely, bright laughter. As you smile, as you laugh, Jibeom remembers your words from yesterday, and -
It’s true, he thinks, watching the way sunlight streams onto your face, the way you seem to glow under the golden hour with the brightness of your smile. It’s true what you said, that the earth laughs in flowers.
Because looking at you now, laughing in the sunlight, Jibeom can see the flowers ever-blooming in your smile.

✧ Golden Child Jibeom x gn!reader ✧ words: ~800 ✧ genre: comfort, some angst ✧ warnings: depictions of depression ✧ prompt: “What’s it gonna take to make you smile?”
Tumblr media
“Hm?” you force yourself to make a noise after hearing the knock on the bedroom door. In comes your boyfriend Jibeom, a cheerful smile on his face that’s meant to cheer you up too, and a plastic bag in his hand, like the ones you always get to put your stuff into at any convenience store.
“Surprise!” he says, careful not to sound too excited and instead keeping his voice calm and soothing to listen to. You’re sitting up on your bed, blanket wrapped around your shoulders, along with the weight of depression that’s pushing down on you. You watch Jibeom unpack the snacks he had bought for you - he hasn’t missed a single one of your favourites, and yet you can’t bring yourself to smile at him for it. You know in your head that you’re thankful to him for going out of his way to take care of you like this, but the feeling seems so far away from you, you wonder if it’s even there to begin with.
“Thanks,” you mutter anyway, and your boyfriend holds still for a second, before he lets out a sigh and he comes closer to you. Extending his arm to run his thumb across your cheek, causing you to look him in the eyes and immediately feel guilty over seeing the worry behind his dark brown pupils, he speaks,
“What’s it gonna take to make you smile?” You look away, moving your head away from his touch. He however leans in further, catching a glimpse at your face anyway. “Y/N, baby… it’s okay.”
It really isn’t - is what you would like to say to him, but the words get stuck in your throat, so you don’t even try to force them out. Instead, you merely shake your head. Jibeom crawls closer to you, lifting up the blanket briefly so he could slip underneath it, sitting right next to you now. He wraps his arms around you carefully, watching for any hint in your body language about whether you’re okay with this or not. In the end you find yourself leaning into him, burying your face in his chest so that at least he wouldn’t have to see the way there’s not a trace of life behind your expression currently. Rocking you back and forth in his hold for a while, your eyelids eventually fall shut, and exhaustion overcomes you again as you feel safe in his embrace.
“Can I do anything for you?” he asks eventually, and you think for a moment. That’s when your gaze finds a box of chocolates among the snacks he brought with him, and you point at them. It takes Jibeom a moment to figure out what you want, but then he finds himself chuckling as he fetches the sweets for you. “This is what you want?” he guesses, and when you nod, he opens the box for you and holds it out to you so you could choose whichever one you like. There’s an amused smile on his lips as he watches you take one of the chocolates and stuff it into your mouth.
“Why…?” you mutter eventually, not understanding his reaction to the sorry state you’re in.
“Sorry,” he apologizes while trying not to grin at you, but eventually failing. “It’s just… I thought maybe you wanted to talk about it or something, but you just pointing at the chocolates… caught me off guard.” And now you can see it too, how such a situation could look funny to him, and without realizing, you find yourself letting out a short laugh too. “Oh?” your boyfriend is quick to react, pointing at your face now. You raise your eyebrows at him, reaching for another piece of chocolate and bringing it up to your mouth. “I bought them well, didn’t I?” He puffs out his chest now, as if he was proud of himself for figuring out how to make you feel better, and once again it makes you smile ever so slightly.
“I guess…” you look away, putting the chocolate into your mouth. You realize that being with him like this and having meaningless conversations really does cheer you up, and when you muster the courage to glance at his brightly smiling face again, you can feel a glimmer of warmth spreading in your chest. You bump your head into his shoulder as you let your body lean against him, and now the smile won’t leave your lips anymore. “I love you,” you whisper, barely audible, but Jibeom must’ve heard it. Because now he’s wrapping his arms around you in a tight hug, pressing a kiss onto the top of your head. Staying like this for a while, neither of you says anything. All you do is enjoy the way he makes you feel at home and protected, no matter what.

Golcha jibeom and the color hmmm dust pink! (If you allow for the dusty pink to have a few sparkles, then add the sparkles too)
first kiss drabble game
Tumblr media
[the colour of timeless elegance] Sunlight filters into the ballroom from each west-facing window, bathing the dancers in a warm glow as they glide over the polished floor. Your clothes shimmer in the rays, a beautiful, rosy colour that Jibeom would not be able to take his eyes off of if only he weren't enamoured with you, and the way your lips call to him.
The way his lips yearn to answer.
"I wish this song could last forever," you muse as you dance. "It's so beautiful."
"Yes," he says, absentmindedly.
The steps come easily to you, now, after hours of practising that you only agreed to because Jibeom asked. It wasn't usual, for a royal tutor to dance at a prince's birthday ball, but he'd convinced you.
While we still can, he'd said. Please, dance with me.
Jibeom tries to pulls you close, just as the dance requires, but you tense the muscles in your arms, keeping distance.
"Your father has already chosen eligible suitors," you say, refusing to meet his eyes. "You are to meet them tomorrow."
"Please do not speak of that. Not here, now. When I am with you."
You take a breath, and Jibeom simply wants to hold you closer. There are eyes everywhere.
"I wish we had more time, Your Highness," you admit. "I am afraid, however, that I have overstayed my welcome."
Jibeom takes your hand and presses it flat over his chest. "You know that isn't true."
"You are to marry within the year."
The sentence, from you, over the many times he's heard his parents; the king; the queen, say it, sounds final.
"Unless I show them," he pleads of you, desperately.
You sigh. "Show them what, Your Highness?"
"That there is already someone I love."
You falter in your step, a flash of the clumsy tutor he fell in love with yet never had the courage to pursue. Until now.
He pulls you close, and your arms go slack as you let him. His lips slot over yours, and he closes his eyes to the outside world, to the gasps from the nobles surrounding you both, to the idea that anything or anyone could keep him from loving you. He kisses you with everything he meant to say since falling for you.
You return the kiss, desperately and unapologetically, and he falls all over again.

[ THERE’S NOTHING MORE ROMANTIC THAN DYING ]
gn!reader X non-idol!golcha/jibeom(romance is insinuated)
zombie apocalypse au ! (word count: 800+)
WARNINGS; bruising mentions, zombies, death, gun insinuation, open-ish ending. (& 1 cuss word)
this all just … tumbled out throughout this past week so .. only slightly edited + can only hope it makes any sense PFPFPF — hope you enjoy ! please like/rb if you do :)
Tumblr media
With his hand in yours, Jibeom watches the zombies bang on the doors as you settle back down onto the small couch; the feeling of fear having faded into one of acceptance in your heart, but your hands still tremble ever-so-slightly as you accidentally make eye-contact with one of the bearers of your end after pulling a blanket over your thighs.
The bite on your leg itches; as if to remind you that you were going to die whether your group’s safe-base was attacked or not, that the hoard was — if anything — speeding up the time you had left as you. Your goodbyes to the rest of the people you’d spent months with happened only — what feels like — a few minutes ago; Joochan’s ‘no goodbyes, only see you laters!’ still ringing in your ears, which reminds you that you should probably —
“You need to go.” You let go of Jibeom’s hand, looking toward him and away from the hallow eyes. “They’re waiting on you, dummy.”
You’re met with silence — or as much silence you can get with the banging and snarls — and you realize that Jibeom hadn’t even been looking at the crowd of monsters, but at the bruising bite on your calf. Fighting back a groan as you move it away from his sight to gain his attention, you say, “Jibeom.”
He finally hums, before looking over at you; his eyes shiny while his mouth was twisted into a frown. “I’m still not sure this is the best—”
“Don’t do this.” You sigh, looking away and bringing the blanket around your shoulders closer as if to shield yourself from Jibeom’s continuous protests. When he opens his mouth to continue his speech, you add, “It hurts to move anything below the waist at this point — this is the best.”
“And you need to go — your window of opportunity is closing.” His face scrunches up more after you add this, as if to try his best to oppose your decision in any way he can.
“I just hate the thought that your last moments are of us leaving you to them.” He finally states, all of his face flattening out aside from his mouth, which was still stuck in a deep frown. Your heart twists as you realize that that was what was bothering him — that you wouldn’t be able to comfortably pass away. You look at Jibeom for a moment, trying to ignore the feeling of hey, you’re dying! sinking into your bones.
“My last moments will be knowing that you guys are safe.” You point out, “Not of you guys ‘leaving me to them’. I’d like to think that you’d know I wouldn’t think of you like that.”
A sharp sound of glass breaking echos just as you were about to teasingly click your tongue, bringing your and Jibeom’s attention back toward the groaning monsters’ banging on the windows and doors. “Shit, okay —”
Your hands begin to lightly shake again, the fear of Jibeom not making it out in time growing larger at the sight of the large crack appearing on one of the windows; a clear sign that it wouldn’t be long before the entire window would give in to the weight of who-knows-how-many zombies. With a growing knot in your throat, you wince as you reach over to pull Jibeom’s bag over; a sharp pain spiking up your spine at the sudden movement.
“You need to go, love.” You state, swatting at his worried hands he had stretched out the second you moved to grab his bag. “Before we both end up food for them, and Jaehyun tries something stupid to get you.”
Although slightly slow — as if to still silently argue with you — in his movements, Jibeom finally stands up; pulling his bag over his shoulders, and shuffling toward the back entrance everyone else had earlier.
“But hey,” you start, making him pause halfway to turn to look at you one last time, “I’ll find you, alright? Maybe not as human - or one of those things - but maybe as something smaller. So stay safe, you hear me?” You give him a small, but stern, glare with a teasing smile, sitting back against the couch arm.
Jibeom hums, continuing his way toward the exit while shaking his head, “I’ll try - until next time, right?” And with a tight grin and two-fingered salute, he leaves; the sound of his footsteps just barely audible over the banging and groans of your soon-to-be-guests, and you wait ten more minutes after he disappears before moving again, grabbing an object off the floor with a shaky sigh.
There’s nothing more romantic than dying, you think one last time just before pulling the trigger; the sound echoing with a loud bang! just as the doors break under the monsters. The commotion causing Jibeom — and your group — to look over and watch as the monsters stampede the building that had once held a warmer life.

Runaway | Kim Jibeom
Tumblr media
Word count: 2.9k
Genre: royal au, low class Jibeom x royal y/n, brother Jangjun, fluff, mentions of killing
Requested: yes
A/N: thank you anon for this request, I hope you like it!
Tumblr media
   Tap.
As you do your nightly routine, you think that you’re hearing things, so you continue on with your actions.
   Tap.
Again, you think you hear a noise, but choose to brush it off.
   Tap.
Deciding that you might go insane if you don’t check, you get up from your vanity and head over towards your window. Opening up the curtain and looking at the window, your eyes widen in surprise at the sight of the reason for the noise. Opening up the window, you quietly yell, “Jibeom! What are you doing? You know you can’t be here.”
Instead of actually responding to you, he points off to the side, and heads in that direction. Rolling your eyes at him, you grab a cover and sneakily make your way out of your room. You weren’t supposed to be out at this time of night, and if anyone caught you, they’ll rat you out to your brother, and that’s the last thing you wanted. Just as you were about to round the corner, you hear the sound of your brother’s voice and immediately take cover behind the corner. Peeking, you see him and his guard talking.
   “Prince Jangjun-“
“Daeyeol, I told you to drop the formalities a long time ago, when will you stop with that nonsense?”
“Fine then, Jangjun, you can’t be serious with that request, it’s absurd. You know Y/n will hate you.” Your name being mentioned has now piqued your interest. You wondered what they could possibly be talking about.
“It doesn’t matter, they’ll learn to live with it.”
“But this request is horrible and unnecessary. You can’t possibly want to kill him.” At the mention of the word kill, your blood ran cold. You knew exactly who him Daeyeol was referring to. It was the same man that was waiting outside for you – Jibeom. Your heart broke at the thought of Jangjun’s request.
You knew Jangjun didn’t approve of your relationship with Jibeom, he had made it clear many times. The thing was, you were a part of the royal family, and well, Jibeom was not. He did not come from a noble or high class family, instead he came from a family of blacksmiths. The one day where you happened to be out strolling through the marketplace, was the day you had met him. After that first meeting, you knew you had to see him again, so when you learned from your most trusted guard and best friend, Jaehyun, that he was the blacksmith’s son, you made a request for the blacksmith to create something for your brother. Using the excuse as a way to see Jibeom. You and Jibeom had gotten along quickly, which eventually led to the two of you sneaking around the woods to see each other. One day, when he took you to the lake by the woods, he had officially asked you to be his, and of course you had said yes. He had become your reason for happiness. Unfortunately for the two of you, you could only be together in secret. It was taboo for a member of the royal family to be with anyone of the lower class, but that didn’t stop you from loving him. However, Jangjun found it odd that you were leaving the castle a lot, and so he had Bomin secretly follow you as you were on your way to meet Jibeom, which led to Jangjun finding out about your relationship.
Jangjun was furious and demanded for you to break up with Jibeom, however, you had refused. You were not going to let your brother get in the way of your happiness. Your parents had also found out, but unlike Jangjun, they were not furious, disappointed, but not furious. When your parents didn’t do anything about you, Jangjun had stormed off in rage, and from then on, you had never heard him mention Jibeom again, that was until tonight.
“Daeyeol, I’ve mind up my mind, I want you and the other men to go out to the village and storm his house. Charge him of treason, and then take him away to the woods and kill him. We can claim that he fought and that we were only defending ourselves.” You couldn’t believe your ears. You had to get to Jibeom quickly and warn him of the danger that’s ahead of him.
Once Jangjun and Daeyeol were out of sight, you quickly made your way out the castle, however, another obstacle had stopped you physically.
“Y/n. You shouldn’t be out of your room at this time of hour.” Jaehyun scolded you. Thanking the heavens that it was Jaehyun, you quickly tell him what you had just overheard.
“Please, Jaehyun, I have to go and tell Jibeom,” you pleaded with him.
“Y/n, you know Jangjun would have my head if he knew I let you leave the castle at this time, much less to go see Jibeom.” Tears were now starting to pool in your eyes, fear running through your veins for your loved one.
“Jaehyun, I love him. I can’t let anything happen to him. I’ll be nothing without him. Please.” The silence leading up to his answer was killing you, and honestly, you contemplated kicking him in the shin and escaping, but luckily you didn’t have to resort to that because Jaehyun says, “Go, I’ll cover for you.” Quickly giving a tight hug, you thank him. “Please stay safe, Y/n.” With that being said, you quickly make your way to the gardens, where you know Jibeom is waiting.
When you finally reach the outdoors, your body instantly shivers from the cold, but that wasn’t your first concern at the moment. You had to get to Jibeom, fast.
As you approach the gardens, you see a familiar figure waiting underneath the gazebo, picking up your pace, you clumsily trip over the steps of the gazebo and crash into Jibeom’s body.
Catching you, Jibeom says, “Woah, woah. Someone’s excited to see me.” Instead of replying with your usual sarcastic remarks, you say, “You have to get out of the kingdom Jibeom.”
Shocked by your words, Jibeom can only stare blankly at you, but then a moment later, he starts laughing, “Silly goose, what’re you talking about?”
“Jibeom, I’m serious. You have to leave. Jangjun is sending a group of knights to capture you and kill you tonight.” After hearing your explanation, his laughing stops, and a serious expression takes over his face.
“Wait, are being serious right now?”
You couldn’t believe that Jibeom would think that you would be messing around about something this serious. “Yes, Jibeom, I’m being serious. We need to get you out of here right now.” You begin to push him off the gazebo, but he grabs you by your arms, stopping your actions, “Wait, what about my family? I can’t just leave them.”
“Don’t worry about them, my brother my hate you, but he would never do any harm to your family.” In attempt to get him going, you push at him again, but he stops you once again.
“What about you? I can’t leave you.” He cups your face gently, looking at you with so much love, and you can’t help it when the tears start to pool in your eyes.
“I’ll be fine, Jangjun won’t hurt me.” At least not physically.
“Come with me.” At first you thought you misheard him, but when he repeated it again, you felt something warm fill up your chest, “Come with me Y/n. Runaway with me.”
Laying a hand on his chest to stop him from speaking, “I…I can’t do that Jibeom.” Your brain wanted one thing, but your heart yearned for another.
“Why not? You hate being a royal. You hate living your life like this. Runaway with me and we can start anew.” You wanted nothing more than to runway with Jibeom, but you were scared. Of what? You weren’t too sure.
   “But my family…”
“Your family will be alright without you.” Looking away from Jibeom’s pleading eyes, you take a quick moment to think to yourself; there wasn’t much time left for Jibeom to escape and you know that he won’t leave without you. Running away from your life, meant leaving your family, and you couldn’t break their hearts like that. Although Jangjun was harsh with you, you knew he meant it out of love and just wanted what he thought was best for you, but what was best for you was Jibeom. If it came down to it, you’d pick him over royal parties and wealth. He gave you what being a royal couldn’t give you; he gave you true love. The answer was quite obvious, wasn’t it?
   “Okay.”
“Okay?” Jibeom wanted for you to say the words.
“Okay, I’ll runway with you. You don’t care where we end up as long as I have you, I know we’ll be alright.” The brightest smile broke through on his face before he pulled you into a kiss. A kiss that had so much love behind it.
When the two of you pulled away, you remembered why you guys were even in this position right now. Pulling at his sleeve, you say, “Quick we have to go before they realize that we’re both missing.”
The two of you trek through the darkness of the night, keeping an eye out for soldiers. As the two of you were close to the outskirts of the kingdom, you heard the sounds of horses and men shouting. Quickly hiding in the nearest alleyway, you hear one of the knights shout,
“We need to find Y/n! You guys search over there, we’ll head over to the Kim household.” You felt Jibeom stiff beside you as they mentioned his family name. Squeezing your interlocked hands, you reassure him that his family was going to be safe. Once the knights were out of sight, the two of you began moving again.
You were growing tired, but you couldn’t stop moving your feet or else the two of you were going to be caught. The hold that Jibeom had on your hand was enough encouragement to make you keep on going.
Upon reaching the woods outside of the kingdom, the two of you turn back and take a moment to take in everything. ‘I really did it,’ you thought to yourself. You couldn’t help but reminisce and all the memories you’ve made in the kingdom. For all your life, this kingdom has been your home. Your family and friends were all here, but now you have something else to call home. Turning your head to look at Jibeom, all you can see is your future and that gives you comfort. Tugging on your hand, Jibeom leads the two of you into the woods, leaving behind your old lives to start new ones.
   Three years later.
   “You scared?”
“No…maybe. I don’t know. Maybe we should just turn back.” Before you could get your feet moving, Jibeom stops you in your place.
“I know you want this Y/n.” He was right, you did want this, but you were nervous. It’s been three years since you’ve last been in the kingdom, and now here you were right outside the gates of the castle.
“What if they don’t want to see me?”
“They’re your family, of course they want to see you.” You weren’t too sure about that. After running away, you didn’t keep in touch with them. You stayed up to date with the news however, and you were quite shocked when you found out that your father had stepped down from the throne, giving it up to Jangjun. That was the moment when you wanted to contact them the most, but you felt ashamed. Ashamed of running away, but you didn’t regret any of your choices. The life that you had was more than you could ever ask for. Feeling a slight tug on your sleeve, you look down.
“It’s a castle!” Smiling, you pick up the little boy.
“That’s right Junho. It’s a big castle. When I was your age, I used to run day the hallways of this castle.” Junho was your two-year-old son. He was a pleasant surprise to both you and Jibeom, but you could both agree that he was the best thing to happen to the two of you.
“I want to go in!” You and Jibeom turn to look at each other, and after taking a deep breath, you take a step forward.
“King Jangjun!” Daeyeol comes rushing in the doors of the dining hall where Jangjun and the former king and queen were having breakfast.
“Daeyeol, I told you to stop with the formalities, now what has you running in like a madman?”
   “You won’t believe it.”
   “I won’t believe what?”
Daeyeol steps aside, presenting you and your family. The sounds of silverware clattering against plates and tables sound as your royal family looks at you. Rubbing his eyes, Jangjun looks at your figure in shock.
“Hello.” You send your family a small wave out of nervousness.
Your parents quickly rush to you, engulfing you in a hug. “Y/n! My sweet child. We’ve missed you so much!” Once they finally let go of you, they took a step back to take you all in.
“Sweetheart, you’ve grown up so much.” Tears threatened to fall as you looked at your parents.
The sound of a chair scraping against the floor catches your attention. You watch as Jangjun silently gets up from his chair and slowly makes his way to you. Preparing yourself to get yelled at, what happens next is unexpected. Jangjun pulls you into a tight hug, and you can feel his tears fall against you, “I’ve missed you so much, Y/n.” His words were unexpected, but you return his hug, holding onto him with all that you can, tears streaming down your face.
When the two of you separate, Jangjun grabs your face with his two hands and starts inspecting you, “You’re real, right?” Whacking him like the old times, “Yes doofus I’m real.” Everyone around laughs at your antics. This was something that you really missed.
“Ehem.” The sound of Jibeom clearing his throat interrupts the moment you and your family were having. Slowly you make your way back to his side, and the look on everyone’s faces were expected.
“You guys remember Jibeom right?” He does a nervous wave and becomes even more nervous as your mother approaches him. Unexpectedly, she pulls him into an embrace, “Oof.” The sight warms your heart, and when they pull away, your father gives him a short hug as well.
“Of course, we remember him, he’s the one who took my child away.” Everyone stops all movement, and you can tell that Jibeom is mentally preparing himself to get killed. “I just want to thank you for keeping our child safe.” You internally let out a sigh of relief, while Jibeom physically lets one out. Feeling tiny arms wrap around your leg, you pet Junho’s hair.
“There’s also somebody else you guys should meet.” Stepping aside, you show everyone Junho. “Is he…?” you father begins. “Yes, this is your grandson Junho.” Carefully your parents approach the scared Junho and bend down to his level, “Well hello there Junho. No need to be scared we’re your grandparents.” Junho looks up at you, and you let him know that it’s okay, “It’s okay sweetie, they’re not going to hurt you.” Junho slowly lets go of your leg, and goes on to proudly show your parents his toy, “Look, my father made this for me.”
   “Oh, did he now?”
As your parents carry on conserving with Junho, you can see from the corner of your eye that Jangjun is approaching Jibeom. Quickly, you get in between the two men, not wanting for there to be a scene in front of Junho.
“Jangjun don’t.” Jangjun raises his hand to stop you from talking, as he looks at Jibeom straight in the eyes. “I’m sorry.” The only thing you could do was blink in confusion. “I shouldn’t have been so harsh about the two of you back then. I also shouldn’t have sent my men to kill you.” Getting down on both of his knees, “I hope the two of you can forgive me.” This was a sight you had never seen before, and you realize now that within these past few years that Jangjun has matured. Looking at one another, you give each other knowing looks. Resting a hand on Jangjun’s shoulder, you make him get up, “We forgave you a long time ago Jangjun.” Your statement makes him look at the two of you in shock. “If it weren’t for you, this,” you motion towards Junho, “wouldn’t have happened. Honestly we’re thankful for you.” You had truly meant your words. This was something that you and Jibeom had discussed a long time ago, and you had both agreed that running away was the best thing that could have happened to the two of you.
“I…I don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t have to say anything, Jangjun. Everything is okay now.”
After everything between you and your families had settled down, you had all decided to go out to the gardens for a walk. Junho had quickly taken a liking to his uncle Jangjun. He was quick to agree to see all the swords he had later on, and now he was running away from his uncle as he chased him around the gardens.
   “I’m gonna get you!”
Giggling, “You can’t catch me!” The sight of the two of them warmed your heart. Feeling a squeeze on you hand, you focus your attention on Jibeom, “You good?” he asks.
   “I couldn’t be any better.”

Boys’ Night Out
Tumblr media
Pairing: Sungyoon x Female Reader
Genre: non-idol au; fluff
Summary: Sungyoon has never suffered from FOMO, there’s no where else he’d rather be than in the comfort of his own apartment. He’s about to learn, however, that there are some things in life that are just too good to miss.
Word Count: 2.6k
Content Warnings: drinking, mentions of vomiting, foul language (sorry, i swear like a trucker)
Author’s Note: i know i’ve been on hiatus for forever but the lack of golden child content on this site has forced me to write something for my baby sungyoon
Sungyoon hates clubbing, he always has. He hates how crowded it is, not being able to walk without accidentally brushing up against at least three people, hands and feet everywhere, no concept of personal space. He hates how dirty it is, sweaty and sticky, the bottom of his shoes always ending up caked in dried beer and spilled cocktails. He hates how loud it is. He swears he can feel his eardrums pulsing along with the beat of each song. Most of all, Sungyoon hates being forced to socialize. It’s not that he hates meeting new people, he actually enjoys it quite a bit. But speaking with someone over coffee and shouting over the noise of a club are two very different things.
To say that Sungyoon didn’t want to be here tonight would be the understatement of a lifetime. He had already tried to cancel three times before Jangjun had come to his house, vowing not to leave until Sungyoon got off his ass and got ready to drink until he could drink no more.
—————————————————————————
“Come on dude, you never come out anymore.” Jangjun could tell from the state of his tangled hair and his Dorito-stained sweats that Sungyoon hadn’t left his couch in at least two days. The apartment smelled vaguely of room temperature pizza and there was a stack of empty DVD cases at least two feet high, their matching discs scattered across the entertainment center. In the background he could hear Prisoner of Azkaban playing through the speakers and judging from the way Sungyoon kept glancing at the tv, Jangjun could see he had obviously interrupted a very important marathon.
“That is so not true! I went with you guys last time! Remember, Seungmin had too many of those lemon drinks he likes, and I had to carry him back to the car.” Sungyoon shivered at the memory, having spent the entire next day cleaning Seungmin’s vomit off his white tennis shoes.
“That was three months ago Yoon! We’ve gone out at least seven times since then, we’ve invited you every time. And every time you have some reason not to go. What is it this time? Your grandma die again? That would be the third time now, you know. You must have more grandmas than anyone I’ve ever met!” Sungyoon shifted in his chair, avoiding eye contact with Jangjun. For some reason he had assumed that no one had caught onto the fact that he only had a handful of go-to excuses. It wasn’t that he felt guilty for lying, but being caught in the act wasn’t exactly fun either.
“No, she’s fine, false alarms the last few times,” Sungyoon scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, still refusing to look at Jangjun. “All good here.”
Jangjun rolled his eyes. Of course Sungyoon wouldn’t admit it. He hadn’t expected him to. “Look dude, I don’t care that your fictional grandma holds the world record for the greatest number of times one person can die. We just miss spending time with you. Besides, I bet Jibeom ten bucks I could get you to come. He’s convinced you’re actually a ghost that can only come out once a year, on the anniversary of your death. I told him that was stupid. He told me I’m stupid. Please don’t let me lose a bet to Jibeom, the idiot will never let me live it down.”
Sungyoon chuckled. He forgot how entertaining his friends were to be around. He kind of missed it (don’t tell Jangjun that). “Alright fine, I’ll come. But I won’t be happy about it.”
“Of course not.” Jangjun smirked.
“And I’m leaving by ten.” He looked at the clock, it was just past seven thirty. He could survive a couple of hours.
“Eleven.”
“Ten thirty.”
“Twelve.”
Sungyoon sighed, admitting defeat. He was no match for Jangjun and would rather quit while he was ahead, or at least not behind.
Sungyoon spent the next thirty minutes showering off days of bedhead and popcorn butter before throwing on the first hoodie he could find. When he walked back into his living room there was not an empty chip bag in sight, all his dirty cups were sitting on the drying rack next to his sink, even his blanket was folded and placed nicely across the arm of his couch. Jangjun was sitting next to it, scrolling on his phone. Sungyoon wasn’t sure if he was even in the same apartment anymore.
Jangjun could sense Sungyoon’s presence and waited for him to say something. When the room was silent for a bit too long, he lifted his eyes from his phone to see Sungyoon completely dumbfounded. Where had his finely cultivated chaos gone?
“You were living in filth, man. I’m surprised I didn’t find any dead rats hidden in the mess. You’re welcome, by the way.”
“I was not, my apartment is perfectly clean. Messy and dirty are not the same thing.”
“Whatever you say,” There was no saving him, Jangjun had already tried. “You ready to go yet? I wanna get drunk.”
—————————————————————————
When they get to the club, Jangjun walks in first. The guys are disappointed to see him without Sungyoon, but not surprised. Jibeom’s already deciding which shot he’s going to buy with his newly acquired ten dollars. He sticks his hand out to Jangjun, eager to become ten bucks richer. Jangjun gently lowers Jibeom’s hand and shakes his head. Jibeom looks at him, confused. He looks infinitely more confused when he sees Sungyoon walk through the door. He stands there: eyes wide, still opened palm at his side, and he kisses his fancy shot goodbye. The rest of the group is thrilled to see Sungyoon. They let out a cheer that can barely be heard over the sound of the club, only Jaehyun’s raspy voice being even slightly distinguishable. Seungmin is so excited that he decides to buy everyone a round of lemon drops to celebrate. Guess Jibeom would be getting his shot after all.
—————————————————————————
That’s how Sungyoon ended up where he is now, stuck between Jangjun and Jibeom as they drunkenly argue over what Adele’s best song is. Or at least he thinks that’s how he got here, Sungyoon’s had a few too many, if he’s being honest.
“No way! Nothing beats Rolling in the Deep!”
“You’re welcome to your wrong opinion, but it’s definitely Set Fire to the Rain.”
Sungyoon didn’t realize two grown men could have such strong feelings about Adele’s discography. He doesn’t even know how the subject came up; he was too busy staring at the far corner of the bar. The same corner where his attention has been all night.
“She’s cute, huh.” Seungmin yells in his ear, the club version of whispering. Sungyoon turns to his friend, the tips of his ears turning pink. Had he really been that obvious?
“Uh… yeah… she’s alright.”
“Go say hi.”
“N-no, I’m good.” Sungyoon might not be fond of clubs, but he’s terrified of girls. Especially attractive girls.
“You need another lemon drop.” And just like that, Seungmin’s off to buy another round of shots. Sungyoon says a silent prayer for Seungmin’s wallet.
—————————————————————————
You’ve been at the club a few hours and have already had to help your best friend out of several unwelcomed interactions with grimy men. Most people would hate to be the person who always had to stand there awkwardly while their friend got all the attention, but you don’t mind. Afterall, whenever she is sent drinks, you usually are too; and there are few things in this world that taste as sweet as free alcohol. You’re now significantly buzzed, complements to the very smiley man who has been buying Chae shots all night. His name is Joo- something. Or was it Chan- something? You can’t remember, but he seems okay enough. Not creepy like the others.
You look around to see that the guy who’s been watching your friend all night is still staring over at your corner. Being used to it by now, you don’t think much of it as your eyes wander over the rest of the club, already bored out of your mind. Chae nudges you and tilts her head toward the far end of the room. You follow her gesture just in time to meet eyes with the man who had been looking your direction. He quickly breaks eye contact and turns away. That was weird. It almost seemed like he had been looking at you, but that’s impossible, you tell yourself. It’s always Chae that people are staring at; it’s like she’s a magnet for attention, both male and female alike. But still, something about this time feels different. You just can’t quite put your finger on it.
—————————————————————————
Another hour passes and Sungyoon is still watching you from across the club. He wants to talk to you, he really does, but he’s far too scared. Seungmin has convinced him that he just isn’t drunk enough, so he has a shot. And then another. And then another. And then…
Sungyoon has lost count. Whatever the number is, he is certainly drunk now. But he is no less nervous. In fact, he feels as though he may pull a Seungmin at any moment and ruin another pair of shoes. The thought alone is enough to sober him up a bit. Sungyoon makes his way through the crowd, eventually reaching the bar and ordering four waters. He downs them all on the spot, he needs air. Ordering another water to take with him, Sungyoon slowly weaves between the mess of people as he walks toward the exit. He hasn’t spilled a single drop, something he is unreasonably proud of.
Just as Sungyoon exits the door, he’s knocked to the ground, his precious water now scattered across the pavement. He sighs. Clubbing. As he begins to brush himself off and stand up, he feels a hand on his forearm, gently pulling him up. Sungyoon’s eyes lock on the hand and slowly follow its outline: up the wrist, the elbow, the shoulder, until finally, they reach the face of the person who’s responsible for the bruises that he’s sure to have on his ass come tomorrow morning. He gulps; it’s you. Of course, it’s you, who else would it be? It’s not like there are a hundred other people in the club he could have run into. Your eyes are wide, you seem mortified. Sungyoon slowly stands up, your hand still on his arm.
“I’m so sorry! Oh my God, I can’t believe I just did that! I-” You pause to look at the man in front of you. He looks like he has just seen the ghost of his (not so) dead grandma. “Are you okay?”
Sungyoon is frozen. He looks at you, down at your hand on his arm, and back at you. You gasp and quickly withdraw your hand. He doesn’t know what to do, the lemon drops hadn’t prepared him for this.
“I-I’m okay.” Sungyoon says. Except he didn’t say ‘I’m okay’, he said ‘괜찮아요’. Sungyoon doesn’t speak English. Fuck, Sungyoon doesn’t speak English! And from the look on your face, you don’t seem to speak Korean either. Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. What is he going to do? Holy shit! What is he going to do?
It isn’t even that big of a deal, Sungyoon doesn’t have anything important to add to the conversation you’re attempting to have. But he wants to. Have a conversation, that is. Unfortunately, Sungyoon only knows one person that speaks English and that’s Jaehyun. Right, Jaehyun’s here tonight and he speaks English—where is Jaehyun?
As Sungyoon panics inside, you can’t help but think that he looks kind of cute when he’s flustered. His eyebrows are knitted together, and his mouth is slightly open, revealing an adorable set of bunny-like front teeth.
The silence grows longer and Sungyoon can’t tell what the face you’re making at him means. He needs to find Jaehyun.
“잠깐만- uh… w-wait… please?” Sungyoon’s eyebrows raise, and he looks at you like he’s pleading for patience. You nod your head, not expecting him to immediately turn around and run off. What a confusing man.
Sungyoon runs to the door and shows the bouncer the permanent marker x written on the back of his hand before hastily pushing through the herds of people. He makes his way to Seungmin and grabs him by the shoulders.
“Wh-where’s Jaehyun?” He asks, out of breath.
“I’m not sure, last I saw he was with Jangjun. What’s wrong?” But before Seungmin can finish his sentence, Sungyoon’s already bolting toward Jangjun. He stops right in front of him.
“Jaehyun? Where’s Jaehyun?” Jangjun says nothing, pointing to the men’s bathroom.
You’re still waiting outside, growing colder by the second and suddenly remembering why you never bother with cute guys. He must not have intended on coming back, that’s the only thing that explains how long he’s taking. You’re about to call a cab for you and Chae when your phone rings. It’s Chae’s new friend Joochan, (huh, so that was his name) and he, in very broken English, informs you that Chae is in the bathroom throwing up and would like you to come hold her hair. You sigh, all in a day’s work.
Sungyoon passes Joochan on the way to find Jaehyun, not sure why he’s standing outside the ladies’ room but not having time to stop and find out. He enters the men’s bathroom and finally, he finds Jaehyun. Only he doesn’t look too sober. Can he speak English when he’s drunk?
“Oh hey, Sungyooooonnn” Jaehyun says in a sing-song slur of words, followed by a singular hiccup. Sungyoon smiles and begins to fill Jaehyun in, Jaehyun’s glossy eyes light up at the fact that the Choi Sungyoon has a crush.
You don’t even have a chance to tell Chae about your run-in with the cute boy, the second you walk in she starts to heave. At this moment, your sole purpose is to be her human hair tie. It seems like you’re in there for a quarter of your life, Chae’s stomach now impossibly empty. She seems to be sobering up and you tell her to stay put while you go get her some water.
You venture to the bar and back to the bathroom, just about to round the corner when you’re hit straight on, water spilling down the front of your shirt. You look up to see the man from earlier. Instant karma, you think to yourself.
Sungyoon smacks Jaehyun’s arm nodding his head over at you.
“Oh! This is the girl!” Jaehyun says very, very loudly. Sungyoon shushes him, growing more and more embarrassed by the minute. You have no clue what the new boy has said or why it has made the taller one’s cheeks grow so red. Jaehyun steps in front of Sungyoon and introduces himself to you. Oh, a translator! You now realize why the boy had left so suddenly.
“This is Sungyoon,” Jaehyun says, gesturing to the boy behind him, you wave. “He thinks you’re cute, but he doesn’t know I just told you that because he doesn’t speak English, so,” Jaehyun puts his finger up to his mouth and makes a shushing gesture. You laugh.
“Well, Jaehyun, I happen to think Sungyoon is very cute as well. And you can tell him that I said that.” You say with a wink, Sungyoon doesn’t need a translation to know that you’re flirting with him. How many times can he blush in one night?

Finding a place to sleep proved harder than Jangjun and Daeyeol would’ve imagined. Daeyeol seemed to be worried about you, and Jangjun just wanted to get as far away from the spot he found you at as possible. The two boys kept level heads and managed to find a barrel to which they lit a fire of their own. They settled for sleeping inside an abandoned car near the barrel. Daeyeol helped you get situated in the back seat of the car before getting into the front seat. Quietly closing both doors, Jangjun gave you both a look over before heading a little farther ways up to keep watch.
Your gaze stayed locked on the cold boy who hadn’t as much as spared you another word since he last spoke to you.
“Whatcha thinking about?” Daeyeol asked, looking at you through the rear view mirror.
Your head nodded towards Jangjun’s direction as Daeyeol nodded. “The way you talk about him is incredible. He sounds like a great friend, a great person. If that’s true,”
“It is.” Daeyeol interrupted.
“Then why does he act like that? Cold, heartless, like he doesn’t care about anybody?” You asked the taller boy.
Daeyeol watched you for a moment before smiling softly. “I’m the oldest of our friend group. I’m always the one looking after everyone. It’s me, then Jangjun, Seungmin, Jibeom, and Donghyun. We’re thick as thieves.”
His statement made you smile as he continued. “Jangjun never used to be like that, or like this I should say. He always smiled, loved and lived to make everyone around him smile and laugh. He was like a happy virus.”
You noticed Daeyeol pause as he swallowed. “What happened?”
Daeyeol opened his mouth to speak before closing it, almost as if he was thinking carefully about his words. “Someone in Jangjun’s family got bitten by a friend of his outside our group. They didn’t want the family to see them suffer and Jangjun is the only boy so they had him handle it.”
You sat up slightly. “What do you mean by handle it?”
Daeyeol lifted his gaze to look back at you. “I don’t want to go into detail because it, it’s hard to talk about, but let’s just say it really took a chunk out of Jangjun. He moved out of his family home after that because he blamed himself for what happened and he didn’t want to cause any more harm.”
“But it wasn’t his fault.” You replied softly.
Daeyeol shrugged. “Good luck telling him that.”
Daeyeol turned his head to watch the younger boy who kept a close eye out for any zombies. “Jangjun barely wanted to get taken in by me as he thought myself or the others would get hurt. That’s why he’s so adamant on us finding them. Our friend, Donghyun, suffered an injury while we were traveling. He caught an infection because of it and now he’s sick. The medicine we have can help him. We offered to go because we are the oldest, but when we came back they were gone. He’s worried about me, he’s worried about Jibeom and Seungmin, but most of all he’s worried about Donghyun because he’s the youngest.”
“He’s worried about all of you, but who’s worried about him?” You asked quietly as you both watched the boy.
What you had mistaken for plain rudeness and snobby was just Jangjun being protective. His way of protecting the people he loves was not letting them or himself get close to anyone. You praised Jangjun for his ability to be wary of people. Trusting people easily was a big problem of yours, so much so that you would get scolded by Youngtaek. Even Joochan.
You didn’t get much sleep. Rather you stuck with just pretending to be asleep so Daeyeol wouldn’t worry. Eventually you did fall asleep, which helped Daeyeol out because he was needing to switch shifts with Jangjun but didn’t want to if you were still awake. Jangjun didn’t like the fact that he had to watch over you, considering he didn’t trust you that much.
You were awoken by a sigh as your eyes fluttered open. Sitting in front of you wasn’t the same tall boy who’s figure was in front of you when you fell asleep, but rather his friend. Jangjun’s gaze was locked on his older friend who kept pacing back and forth as he kept watch.
“He’s really nice.” You said softly.
Not expecting you to wake up, Jangjun looked at you through the rear view mirror. He just watched you momentarily before letting out another sigh. The mirror gave you the perfect opportunity to look over the boy’s features. You would be lying if you said he wasn’t handsome. Dark, dark, jet black hair sat atop of his oval shaped head that ended with a pointed chin. He had a defined jawline and pointed nose. The feature that stood out the most was his eyes. You remember when he first stared you down. His dark brown, almost pitch black eyes stood out immediately. They dragged you in very quickly. They were different from everyone else’s. Youngtaek and Joochan had brown eyes, but theirs weren’t nearly as dark as Jangjun’s. Come to think of it, Jangjun’s friend Daeyeol didn’t have dark eyes like him.
“You’re staring.” You heard someone say before shaking your head.
“What?” You asked.
Jangjun shrugged. “You were staring at the mirror.”
You felt your cheeks warm as you tried to sink further into the seat. “Just thinking.”
He didn’t say anything else, rather he nodded before bringing his gaze back to Daeyeol. You followed his gaze and watched the older male before thinking about what he had just said to you. Staring. How did he know you were staring at him, unless Jangjun had been sneaking glances at you as well. The thought of him even being slightly interested in getting to know you like Daeyeol made you smile.
Just when you thought you could keep yourself from being embarrassed again, your brain moved quicker. “You have really pretty eyes.”
Your eyes widened at what you said before noticing something. The compliment that you had meant to say to yourself had brought the smallest smile to Jangjun’s face. His teeth showed just slightly making you understand what Daeyeol had mentioned hours early. His cheeks dusted over in a light shade of pink as he nodded slightly. He didn’t say anything back, but the smile he let slip left you feeling victorious. You turned your attention back to Daeyeol who was talking into a walkie talkie as he watched for zombies.
“Who is he trying to talk to?” You asked softly.
You were expecting to be met with silence so when his raspy voice spoke up softly, you were shocked to say the least.
“Our friend Seungmin has the other one. He’s been trying to get in contact with him for days. We haven’t been able to get an answer.” Jangjun told you.
You noticed his eyes cast down to his fingers as he picked at them. Your mouth opened to say something before Daeyeol was sprinting back to the abandoned car you both were seated in. Jangjun reached to open the passenger side door, having to eventually kick it open with his foot as Daeyeol fell into the seat.
“What? What is it?” Jangjun asked, both you and him looking at Daeyeol with wide eyes.
Daeyeol held up the device in his hands before bringing his index finger to his lip, motioning for the both of you to be quiet.
“Seungmin, it’s Daeyeol. Do you copy?” Daeyeol asked.
The line went quiet as you and Jangjun watched the walkie talkie. You were met with a long moment of silence as Jangjun went to speak.
“Yeol,” He started before being cut off.
All three of you held wide eyes as the line went static before you heard another voice.
“I hear you, hyung. I’m here.” You heard a voice reply.
Jangjun ripped the device from his older friend as he all but yelled into it. “Seungmin, Seungmin you’re alive?”
The voice replied again, this time quicker than the first. “I’m alive. We’re all alive.”
The line cut out before another voice spoke. “We’re here.”
Daeyeol slumped back into the worn out seat slightly as he let out a sigh. “Jibeom,”
“Yes hyung?” The voice said.
“I hate you guys. I’m too old for this.” Daeyeol said, making the two boys laugh.
You smiled before looking at Jangjun. He had a serious look on his face before speaking.
“Where’s Donghyun?” He asked quietly.
Daeyeol watched him as the line went silent. They didn’t answer immediately as Jangjun swallowed, closing his eyes to hold back what you were thinking were going to be tears as Daeyeol laid a hand on his shoulder. Jangjun let his head fall slightly before a weakened voice spoke.
“I’m right here, Jun.” The voice said.
Jangjun’s head shot up. “Donghyun, you’re okay?”
His statement came out more like a question as the other line came through.
“Yeah. I’m okay. If I’m gonna die, it’s going to be from an allergic reaction to the medicine you’re bringing me, not this injury.” The boy said, making both of them laugh.
Daeyeol nodded to himself before speaking. “Where are you three?”
The line quieted again. “We found a building with a storm shelter. The door locks from the inside. When you guys had left, we got ambushed. We barely made it out alive. It’s a little ways past the Han River. It has a big sign on it, advertising hardware. It's in there.”
Both boys nodded.
“Okay, we’re coming to you guys. Don’t move. Seriously.” Jangjun said.
The three boys replied back as Daeyeol gave them an estimated time. He turned the walkie talkie off before looking at Jangjun. They both had a look of relief on their faces as Daeyeol brought his hand to the back of Jangjun’s head, holding it up.
“They’re okay. They’re alive, and they’re okay.” Daeyeol assured him as Jangjun nodded.
Daeyeol turned to you as he spoke. “We gotta get going.”
You nodded, gathering up the little things you had as both boys got out of the car. You were waiting for Daeyeol to help you before the door opened. The hand that reached for you definitely wasn’t Daeyeol as you peeked out from the car. Jangjun’s dark eyes stared down at you as his hand stayed parked right in front of you. Looking at it, you slipped your hand into his as he pulled you up and out of the car. You both stared at each other for a moment before hearing Daeyeol clear his throat.
Your hand dropped from his as Daeyeol spoke. “The Han River is about two and a half hours away by car. Clearly there are no working ones, so we better start moving now. I found a flashlight. We’ll use it and some of the working streetlights to help ourselves navigate the streets. If we start now, we should be able to get to their location by early afternoon.”
Jangjun nodded as he grabbed the backpack he had been wearing, throwing it over his shoulder. Daeyeol did the same as the three of you started your trip.
The first hour was quiet. Avoiding zombies proved to be easier than it seemed as you would walk behind zombies or out of the light, following just the moon in order to navigate your way through the maze you were creating. Conversation was kept to a minimum as to not alert any unwanted attention from the creatures of the night. All three of you were on a mission. You just to know there was more people, and the guys to find and help their friends.
Jangjun’s face stayed contorted in a serious look as he led the way, wanting nothing more than to get off the streets and find his friends. You were expecting a bit more conversation from him considered how he slightly opened up to you, but instead it right back to where it was when you had first met. The night sky was starting to shift to a lighter color on the horizon had the sun was beginning to rise. Some of the street lights had turned off, preparing for the daylight which was always just a yellowish orange haze since the outbreak.
“Hey, let’s stop up here. Take a quick break.” Daeyeol suggested as Jangjun stopped.
He let out a sigh, clearly not wanting to stop but knew why he did. For you. Jangjun didn’t bother turning around rather walking the perimeter of the area you had stopped before sitting down by himself. You watched him, taking in how he looked around at his surroundings.
“So, you mentioned how you were traveling with your boyfriend and his best friend?” Daeyeol asked.
The question made you look away from Jangjun as you messed with your fingers. You nodded as Daeyeol sat down next to you.
“You don’t have to talk about him if you don’t want to, but you seem sweet and I’d like to get to know you more. I like meeting new people.” Daeyeol said, this time in a softer tone.
Looking into his eyes, you smiled with a nod.
“His name is Youngtaek. My boyfriend, that’s his name. He’s tall, goofy, clumsy, always smiling and laughing. If we had ever met before all of this, he and Jangjun would probably be inseparable. I’ll even throw his best friend Joochan in there too. Joochan is funny and loud. He loves singing. They were my boys.” You said quietly.
Daeyeol nodded. “They still are your boys. Don’t lose hope.”
“I think that’s been a long enough break. Can we get going now?” You both heard as Daeyeol closed his eyes with a sigh and nod of his head.
He gave you a small smile before standing up, dusting himself off, and helping you. Jangjun walked over to the both of you before looking at his friend.
“It’s your turn to lead.” Jangjun said quietly.
Daeyeol nodded, hoisting the backpack he had on higher up on his shoulders. He started to walk, you following behind as Jangjun fell in stride. The three of you didn’t stop for long, but it was long enough to get a glimpse of the sun rising above the horizon. The sky started to turn a light shade of green as the sun pushed the darkness to the other side of the planet. Daeyeol kept a close eye out as the sky became lighter in color. More zombies were beginning to appear making it harder to stay out in the open. You three continued to walk as Jangjun spoke quietly.
“Let’s try going through these abandoned buildings. The light is pulling the zombies out of the buildings, and the damage to them will help us slip through,” Jangjun stopped to look at the building openings. “As long as we don’t stop.”
You could tell the dig was at you, and it upset you to no end considering the little bit of openness he gave you just an hour or so before.
“Take it easy, Jangjun. Come on.” Daeyeol scolded as he led the way to the buildings.
The three of you walked as quickly and quietly as possible through the buildings. Dodging zombies proved to be easier than expected due to Jangjun’s quick thinking and scene-causing. Anytime he felt the three of you were getting too close to some zombies, he’d find a way to create a diversion to send them on their way. With each diversion successfully created, Jangjun would carry on with a small, victorious smile on his face. Daeyeol couldn’t help but laugh as he would whisper to you.
“Because that’s just what Jangjun needs. A ego boost.” Daeyeol said, making you laugh.
Jangjun continued with his antics before stopping when no more zombies seemed to be in sight. You had managed to scale through quite a few buildings without running into anymore zombies. As you kept walking, you noticed a clinic.
“Look,” You pointed out.
The two boys stopped as you spoke. “Do you think anyone is in there?”
Daeyeol looked over the broken up doors as he turned towards Jangjun. “Stay here.”
“You’re not going in there alone.” Jangjun told him.
Daeyeol nodded his head. “Yes I am. Stay here and find shelter in that building over there. I mean it.”
Daeyeol took off towards the clinic as Jangjun let out a frustrated sigh. He ran his hand through his jet black hair before looking at the building across the way that Daeyeol had pointed at. It looked like a run-down café as he grabbed your hand and pulled you with him.
“W-wait, no. We can’t just let him go in by himself.” You said.
“He’ll be fine.” Jangjun retorted, still pulling you despite your struggle.
You shook your head. “We don’t know that.”
“He said find shelter so that’s what we’re doing.” Jangjun replied.
“Stop. We aren’t leaving him.” You finally got your wrist out of his grip as he stopped.
Jangjun turned to you, his dark eyes boring into yours as you shrunk down from the intensity of his gaze. “Fine. If you want to stay out here by yourself with no protection then you do that. I’m going to listen to Daeyeol and go find shelter.”
The boy turned back towards the café and walked off. Your eyebrows furrowed as you bit your lip. Your instincts were telling you to go after Daeyeol and help him, but your heart was telling you something else. Something like go with Jangjun. You let out an internal whine before heading in Jangjun’s direction.
You lifted a tarp that covered the door before stopping when you heard a noise.
“Relax.” Jangjun’s voice said softly, making you jump. “Glad you decided to not be stupid and join me.”
Jangjun was behind the counter of the rundown café as he leaned over the structure. His dark eyes watched you intently as you made your way through the destruction. Torn up pictures and ripped through interior from bar stools and booth tables were all that greeted you. The place looked as though it used to be homey and calming, but now all it was was desolate and broken.
“This place used to be nice.” You heard Jangjun say.
His statement caught you off guard.
“You’ve been here before?” You asked.
Jangjun nodded, his dark hair falling softly in front of his eyes. “Yeah. In fact, we used to play basketball outside to the left on the open courts over there.”
He pointed towards a broken window that gave a view of beat up basketball courts that were covered in overgrown weeds.
“What did you always get?” You asked, genuinely curious.
He cracked a small smile, prompting you to take some steps towards the counter he was currently leaning on.
“Banana Milk Tea. Simple but tasted so good. Especially in the summertime.” Jangjun said softly.
You felt yourself smile. “I love banana milk.”
Jangjun’s eyes went from the broken window to you and for the first time you saw something different. His gaze wasn’t hard or intense. It held a softness in it.  A softness you had never seen before, not even in your own boyfriend’s eyes.
“I’m sorry.” Jangjun whispered.
By that moment you stood face to face with him, the only obstruction stopping you from walking into him being the counter. You could hear him clearly, but that didn’t stop him.
“I’ve been kind of a dick,” You interrupted him.
“Kind of?” You said teasingly.
“Okay, I’ve been a huge dickhead. I’m just, I don’t know. I worry a lot. About myself, about my friends. I’m not a very trusting person, which is insane because I never used to be this way. Then again, I’ve seen and done some things that I can say have definitely influenced change on me.” Jangjun replied.
His dark eyes casted down to his hands that were enclosed on each other as he spoke again. “I shouldn’t have yelled at you outside, or called you stupid. You were only trying to keep Daeyeol safe, and I’m grateful for that. Daeyeol, our friends we’re looking for, they are all I have.”
You frowned, thinking of the story Daeyeol told you. “No family?”
Jangjun took in a sharp breath, making you softly speak up.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have pried. It’s none of my business.” You told him.
Jangjun shook his head. “No it’s okay. I do have family, or I did. I left in the beginning of this apocalypse and haven’t seen them since. I don’t even know if they are alive.”
You swallowed at his statement. “I know how you feel. I-I wanna believe my boyfriend and best friend are still out there alive, but it’s like the more time goes by without seeing them,”
“The harder it is to keep believing.” Jangjun finished.
Nodding at his statement, you looked at him. “Yeah. Pretty much.”
You went to speak again before hearing some rustling behind you. Jangjun quickly jumped over the counter to push you behind him as he watched the tarp covering the door get lifted. The both of you let out a sigh of relief as Daeyeol came in.
“The cabinets had already been rummaged through. As if someone was looking for medicine for themselves.” Daeyeol said.
Jangjun nodded. “So either there are more survivors or zombies got into them.”
“There are more survivors, at least I believe so.” You said from behind the boy. Reaching into the jacket you were wearing, you pulled out the note you had found with Youngtaek and Joochan.
You handed the note to Jangjun as he read it, getting louder as he got to the end.
“Tell her I love her. I’ll find you guys soon. Sungyoon. Where did you find this?” Jangjun asked.
“We found an abandoned bus and Joochan found the note.” You told him.
Daeyeol held out his hand, silently asking for the letter as Jangjun handed it to him. “There’s blood on it, but it’s not from a human.”
You nodded, remembering Youngtaek saying those exact words. You hoped it wasn’t a foreshadow of something worse to come as you frowned.
“How far out are we?” You asked.
Both boys looked at you as Daeyeol spoke. “We’ve still got at least two hours. An hour and a half if we don’t stop anymore.”
Jangjun nodded, fixing the backpack he had on. “Let’s head out then.”
You and Daeyeol nodded. The both of you went to walk out before you noticed a picture frame on the ground. Veering off towards the broken frame, Jangjun noticed you from the corner of his eye as he grabbed Daeyeol’s arm, stopping the older boy.
“Look,” You said, kneeling down to lift the frame carefully as to not cut yourself on the broken glass and metal still encasing the picture. “Are they the owners?”
The two boys headed towards your direction as you got up from your position on the floor. Gently scraping the broken shards out of the way, you looked at the photo.
“Mother and son?” You asked, looking at Jangjun.
He nodded. “Yeah. I don’t know his name, but I remember that they were really close. Well, they did have a bit of a fight with each other but other than that it was a great mother-son relationship.”
“They look happy.” Daeyeol said softly.
You nodded before you both heard a guttural groan from outside the building.
“Okay, we gotta go. Now.” Daeyeol whispered sternly as you all headed for the door.
They positioned you in between the both of them so you were protected in the front and the back as you exited the building. You moved slowly so as to not make any noise. The sky was now a light shade of orange signaling the late morning that had now fallen upon you. The three of you continued your trek through the streets in search of the hardware store the boys’ friends had spoken about.
Silence consumed the three of you as you walked for what seemed like forever. No conversation was made up until you noticed a gated area.
“Look,” You pointed at the gate. “The Han River.”
Jangjun let out a sigh of relief as a smile made its way to his face. “We made it. Oh my god we made it.”
“We aren’t out of the clear yet.” Daeyeol said, interrupting Jangjun’s thoughts. “Got a lot of zombies covering our path.”
Daeyeol looked all around as he took in the amount of zombies that were surrounding the area.
“Maybe we can get help from Seungmin and Jibeom?” Jangjun asked.
The older boy nodded as he pulled out the walkie talkie. “Seungmin, this is Daeyeol.”
The three of you stayed quiet before hearing the walkie talkie beep.
“Hyung, I’m here. What’s up?” The voice said.
“We made it to the Han River. We can’t get any further though. Zombies are blocking the way, and there’s a lot of them.” Daeyeol told the boy.
The line went silent for a moment before coming back to life. “What do you need us to do?”
Daeyeol looked at Jangjun as his face widened in shock. Grabbing the walkie talkie from the older male, he spoke.
“Seungmin, are there any windows in the place you guys are in?” Jangjun asked.
A ‘yes’ came through as Jangjun spoke again. “Any heavy objects that can make a lot of noise?”
The same repeated answer was replied to Jangjun as he nodded. “I need you to open the window, as quietly as you possibly can, and throw the objects out the window. Throw them as far as you can. The noise will lure the zombies down that way.”
“Jun that’s perfect! The entrance is on the other side of the building away from the window. Jibeom can help you guys get in and I can cause the diversion.” The voice said excitedly.
Daeyeol couldn’t help but chuckle at his younger friends excitement. “Alright, let’s stay focused and not get too excited. We haven’t made it yet. This plan has to work, or else we’re stuck out here for another night.”
Jangjun nodded at the boys words as he spoke. “Hyung is right. We gotta hold off on celebrations until the plan falls into place. Just, be careful. Please.”
“We will. I promise. We’ll get started right now.” The voice said before the line went dead.
You looked at the two boys before speaking. “What now?”
Daeyeol let out a sigh. “We need to climb the fence. Getting on the other side will leave us with some space between us and the zombies. Come on.”
Daeyeol walked towards the fence, pulling off the bag on his back as he tossed it over. It hit the ground as he helped you over. Jangjun followed, then Daeyeol as he picked up the bag. The three of you continued on before hearing a loud noise. A few zombies let out screams prompting Daeyeol to push you down towards the ground, Jangjun following.
“Get down.” Daeyeol whisper-yelled as he looked through the vines growing on the fence.
More zombies let out screams as they headed towards the direction of the sound. Another loud sound was made as they started running.
“We gotta get back over the fence, right now. I can see the hardware sign.” Jangjun said.
Jangjun went to climb the fence, making Daeyeol jump up. “No, Jangjun wait!”
Daeyeol quickly pulled you up, practically pushing you over the fence as he tried to stop the overzealous boy from making a big mistake. Jangjun had set a fullon dead sprint towards the building where the sign hung before Daeyeol was pulling you with him. The commotion managed to set off a few zombies as they started to run your way.
“Daeyeol!” You yelled out making the boy stop.
His eyes widened as the zombies got closer before Jangjun jumped in front of the two of you. He pushed one of the zombies that got close before ripping off the bag he had on, shoving it into your hands.
“Run. Go now!” Jangjun shouted.
The situation was starting to make your head spin as Daeyeol gave the younger boy a pleading look. The zombies were starting to draw nearer as Jangjun reached into the bag and pulled out a bottle of pills. He ran towards the horde as he shook the bottle.
Daeyeol pulled you towards the building as you watched Jangjun get swarmed by zombies. The scene was all too real for you as you had seen it once before. You turned your head away, burying it in Daeyeol’s arm as Daeyeol pounded on the door. The large door echoed with each hit, alerting some of the zombies that had surrounded Jangjun.
You heard a lock from the other side before it opened as Daeyeol practically pushed you into the short boy who opened it. He threw himself in and closed the door behind him, locking it as the boy you had hit spoke.
“Hyung, where’s Jangjun?” The boy asked.
Daeyeol kept his hands on the door as you watched him.
“Where is he?” The boy yelled again.
Daeyeol turned as he caught his breath. “Jangjun alerted some zombies while we were making a run to the building. He grabbed a bottle and shook it to help us get in.”
The boy hadn’t even registered that you were in there with them as he ran into Daeyeol. Daeyeol hugged him tightly before looking past you.
“Jibeom,” Daeyeol started as a dark-haired boy pushed past you and ran straight to the older male. “I’m so glad you guys are okay!”
“Where’s Jangjun-hyung?” Jibeom asked.
Before Daeyeol could speak there was pounding at the door. Daeyeol pushed the two boys back as he turned to the door, keeping his hand on the loose lock so it wouldn’t unlatch itself. The pounding got harder and more frequent as Daeyeol spoke without turning around.
“Go take cover somewhere. Go where Donghyun is.” The boy told the three of you.
You were starting to get worried now. You guys had already lost Jangjun in this mess, you didn’t want to lose Daeyeol either.
“Daeyeol,” You started, but he interrupted.
“Now!” Daeyeol yelled.
You jumped slightly as the dark-haired boy grabbed your hand, pulling you along with him. The three of you entered a small room where another boy was laid on a small cot. They closed the door just enough to hide you, but left it open a crack. The dark haired boy let go of your hand as him and the smaller boy tended to the one laying down. You watched them for a moment before looking through the crack in the door. Daeyeol kept his grip on the lock before leaning his head against the door. That’s when you all heard the yell.
“Open the door! It’s me! Open the door!” Jangjun yelled as Daeyeol raced to push the door open.
Jangjun squeezed through, helping Daeyeol close it before jumping into Daeyeol’s arms. Daeyeol hugged him tightly as you ripped open the door.
“Hey!” One of the boys yelled as you ran up to the two boys you had traveled with, pulling both of them into a hug.
They hugged back, stunned as you removed your one arm that was around Daeyeol to wrap around Jangjun’s torso. He seemed shocked at your actions as he slowly wrapped his own arms around you.
“You’re okay.” You breathed out.
Jangjun looked at Daeyeol as the older boy had a small smile sitting on his face.
“Yeah, I’m okay.” Jangjun said before hearing commotion coming from behind you.
“Jangjun!” Someone yelled as you pulled away.
The two boys you had hid with made their way out of the room and towards the boy. Jangjun let out a sigh of relief as he hugged both boys.
“Where’s Donghyun?” Jangjun asked as the shorter boy led him away.
Daeyeol watched the two of them before letting out a sigh of his own. He closed his eyes for a moment before opening them and looking at you, giving you a smile. You smiled back before looking at the boy in front of you.
“Oh, where are my manners? Jibeom, this is Y/N. Y/N this is Jibeom.” Daeyeol introduced the both of you.
You watched the boy look you up and down before giving you a friendly smile. He held out his hand towards you as you took it, shaking gently.
“Nice to meet you, Jibeom.” You said quietly.
He nodded. “Likewise.”
Jibeom wasn’t as tall as Jangjun or Daeyeol, but he was on the tall side. He was slim and like Jangjun, you noticed the dark hair he carried. You smiled at him before hearing Jangjun’s voice.
“When was the last time Donghyun had any medicine?” He asked.
Jibeom turned to him. “Yesterday. We ran out yesterday.”
Jangjun nodded as he walked over to you. He went to reach for the bag on your back before stopping.
“Do you want to meet Donghyun?” Jangjun asked.
Before you could answer, Daeyeol spoke up. He was walking towards the open window as turned.
“Might as well meet everyone. You’re one of us now.” He told you before grabbing the window and closing it.
Jangjun led the way back into the room you had hid in. The short boy from earlier was hovering over the cot, softly speaking to someone who was laying down.
“Look who’s up and at ‘em?” Jangjun said, catching both boys’ attention.
The one laying down struggled, but managed to sit up enough for Jangjun to pull him into a tight hug.
“You guys made it!” The boy said in a soft voice.
You smiled slightly before feeling someone’s stare on you. Looking up, you made eye contact with the short boy from earlier. Jangjun had pulled away from his hug as he spoke.
“This is Donghyun.” Jangjun said with a small smile.
Donghyun turned his head towards you as he gave you a weak smile.
“Nice to meet you.” The boy said softly.
The short boy from earlier spoke up. “I don’t remember you on the trip. Where did they find you?”
Turning towards him, you heard Jangjun speak. “Take it easy Seungmin. Everyone’s safe.”
Seungmin eyed you before speaking. “I may not trust you yet, but thank you for helping them.”
You couldn’t help but laugh at his semi-rude praise as you turned back towards Donghyun and Jangjun. Jangjun was helping the younger boy sit up as you took the bag you had off your bag. He reached behind him without looking back as you handed off the bag. As Jangjun rummaged through it, the door creaked open.
Daeyeol popped his head in as he spoke. “Hey, can I borrow you for a second?”
You pointed at yourself as the boy nodded. Excusing yourself, Daeyeol pulled you back into the main part of the building you had previously entered as he stopped. With him was Jibeom, and he looked as pale as a ghost.
“Jibeom told me there were some people occupying this space before the three of them got here.” Daeyeol told you.
You nodded slowly as he continued. “He said that there was two of them.”
Jibeom interrupted him this time. “They said they were looking for someone they got separated from.”
The breath got caught in your throat as you let your hands drop to your sides. “You, um, was it two boys? One with red hair, the other with dark brown?”
Jibeom nodded. “They said their names were,”
“Youngtaek and Joochan.” You whispered out.
“Yeah. They looked worried.” The boy said softly.
You felt a tear slip from your eye as you looked at Daeyeol. “They’re alive. Both of them are alive.”
Daeyeol sighed. “Jibeom, finish what you told me.”
Looking back at Jibeom, he nodded. “So, we let them stay here for some time. Eventually they both were able to find a place to hideout. They’ve been staying there since then.”
You started to mess with your fingers. “I can’t believe they’re actually alive. I have to find them. I need to go see them. You said they were on this block? I have to, I have to find them.”
You started to move around frantically. Grabbing the jacket that you had on, you moved towards the door, hands grasping the large lock. Jibeom and Daeyeol started to panic as they both ran towards you. The commotion caused Jangjun and Seungmin to push open the door to the room they were in as they ran out and watched Jibeom and Daeyeol struggle.
“Woah woah! What’s going on?” Jangjun yelled as he ran towards the chaotic scene.
He went to reach for your arm, just barely missing as you kept fending off the other two boys and continued to mess with the lock.
“Please just relax. You can’t go out there.” Jibeom says calmly as to not tick you off anymore.
Daeyeol reached for the lock, holding it shut as you pushed at him.
“No! Let me out! They’re still alive, and I need to find them.” You yelled.
“Who’s still alive?” Seungmin asked from the far end of the room.
Jangjun watched you continue to rattle with the lock under Daeyeol’s hand as he stepped towards you.
“Move your hand, Daeyeol!” You yelled at the boy before feeling someone grab you.
The grip on your arms was strong enough to turn you around as you tried to get out of it. You came face to face with Jangjun as he put little effort into holding you still.
“Seriously Jangjun! Let me go! I need to find them!” Your last yell came with a rush of strength as you pushed Jangjun hard enough to make him stumble.
You turned back around to reach for the lock when he stopped you again.
“Jangjun back off! You didn’t even want me to be here earlier!” You said without looking at him.
Your words struck a nerve as Jangjun pushed you and Daeyeol out of the way. He unlocked the door himself and moved out of the way.
“You are absolutely right. Go ahead then. Leave.” Jangjun said.
“Jun,” Daeyeol warned.
“Shut up! You want to leave, right? Go ahead and leave. Go out there by yourself with no weapons, no clues to where on this street they are despite this street being stuffed with abandoned buildings! You’ll be dead before you even get halfway down the street.” Jangjun finished.
You tore your eyes from his seething gaze and looked at the door. The lock slung back gave you the perfect chance to walk out the door, but just like your words struck a nerve in Jangjun, his struck a nerve in you.
“You don’t have to be an ass about it.” You said softly, not bothering to look at him.
Jangjun let out a chuckle. “Welcome to the real world. Not everyone is kind and just. Now, before you get all of us killed with your irate behavior, why don’t you sit down, relax and rest. Give those things on the other side of the door some time to disperse, and I’ll help you look for the two of them tomorrow.”
Daeyeol reached behind Jangjun to lock the door as he nodded. “Though I don’t like the way he worded it, I agree with Jangjun. There’s strength in our numbers. You can’t go out there by yourself. Jibeom can even go with you because he’ll probably know where they are. Okay? Deal?”
Everyone was looking at you as you nodded. “Yeah. Deal.
Jibeom and Daeyeol let out the breath they were holding as Jangjun nodded. He went to walk past you as he was shoved, hard. He stumbled as everyone looked at you.
“What the hell was that for?” Jangjun asked angrily.
“You,” Your finger jabbed at his chest. “Don’t you ever talk to me like that again or I’ll gather up the strength to throw you out the door myself.”
You pushed past him to go to an abandoned part of the building everyone was in as Jangjun turned to look at Daeyeol. The oldest stood by the door with a small smile on his face as he shrugged.
“Looks like your bad attitude is rubbing off.” Daeyeol told him in a teasing tone.

1386/3100 word october
from the golcha superpowered volleyball universe
[party-goers unseen] “I was thinking of skipping that Halloween party everyone’s talking about,” you tell Jibeom, your thumb scrolling through instagram mindlessly. “It’s not really my scene.”
Jibeom looks up at you, pausing his hands over his homework. “Jangjun will be sad without you there. He told everyone he was bringing the whole team.”
“I’m not on the team though?” You roll your eyes.
“Well I didn’t really wanna go in the first place, and if you’re not going…”
Chuckling, you ruminate over how anti-social you both are. Sure, it would probably do you well to branch out once in a while, but you’d rather not start with a party filled with drunk people dressed as Where’s Waldo or a black cat or any Squid Game character.
“We can just say we went,” you posit. “But they couldn’t see you because you pre-gamed and go invisible when you’re tipsy.”
Jibeom tilts his head, considering the idea, then looks at you again. “What about you?”
You shrug and smile. “I’ll just say I went as the Invisible Man, 2020.”
His brows furrow, and Jibeom frowns at you, lips in the slightest of pouts. “That movie’s a hurtful stereotype.”
At his expression, you let out a little laugh. You hold your arms open, hugging him close when he makes his way into your hold. “I know, you big baby. I don’t need an excuse to not go somewhere. Jangjun can suck it up.”

team captain // choi bomin
Tumblr media
🌟 pairing:: choi bomin x reader 🌟 genre:: fluff, angst, everything tbh, volleyball player!bomin 🌟 summary:: the boy that everyone was in love with. the boy that everyone thought was absoultely perfect, it turns out that maybe he isn’t so perfect. but that’s the reason why you loved him. wait-
a/n: i like this but i don’t know if i do u feel? ——————————————————————————
he was the star volleyball player that everyone thought was perfect because of his background, the way he played, just everything about him but the thing is, not everything about him was so perfect. i wish i didn’t have to find out this way but i did. i remember that day so clearly because i wish i never walked into the room at that moment. i wish i never had anything to do with the boy named choi bomin, the fucking varsity volleyball team captain.
it all started last year when he finally became captain. every girl on campus came to watch him and only him. i was always forced to go by my friends, and it just so happened that one game changed my entire school life. i was on my phone because i honestly could care less about volleyball but when i looked up, he caught my eye. i wouldn’t stop watching him the entire rest of the game. of course i’ve seen him around campus, but i had to admit he was good looking. wrong. he was devastatingly gorgeous. at the end of his game, he looked up into the stands, made eye contact with me before winking.
Tumblr media
for the rest of the week i didn’t say anything to anyone about it because for sure it would cause chaos. as if bomin didn’t smirk or wink at me every time he saw me in the hallways. at first i thought it wasn’t me he was looking at but i soon realized that it happened every time he was near me. i didn’t know why he decided to choose me, but i didn’t hate it. no one had to know that though.
“y/n can you go get me my notebook for me please? i left it on the table during class.” mina smiled at me from across the room because she was in a zoom meeting and wasn’t allowed to leave the screen. i rolled my eyes because she made me get off my bed to walk all the way back to the lecture hall.
“do you need anything else your majesty?” i scoffed when she gasped saying that she wanted me to bring food for her. when i walked over there, i put both headphones in playing a song that i was obsessed with for a while now, breathe by golden child. as i slowly walked up to the hallway, there was a professor causing me to yank my headphones out of my ears. i said hello then walked into the room but slowly walked back out when i saw bomin and one of our professors. we had three or four classes together and he would either sit in front of me, behind me, but never beside me.
“just because you’re the team captain, and your parents pay for every major donation to the university won’t help your grades okay bomin? your grades need to rise because if they don’t, i don’t think volleyball is something you should be doing right now.” this professor was new, and she was very brave to be able to even say that to bomin. everyone knew that if you spoke back to bomin he would do anything and everything to get them fired. she wasn’t even a little bit scared.
“i can just do better on the next test what’s the point of this?” when he replied, i hid around the corner of the door trying not to seem like i was eavesdropping on their conversation. i felt that i shouldn’t be listening to this, because it wasn’t something that i should have heard.
“bomin, if you don’t get your grades up, your coach is going to kick you off the team. i will find you a tutor.” she rolled her eyes putting her hand on his shoulder. my jaw dropped open when i realized what she had said.
“whatever.” he scoffed standing up putting both hands into his pockets and walked towards the door. once he stepped out of the door, he looked down to see me before taking a step towards me then when my back was facing the door, he took another step towards me backing me up against the wall. he leaned forward, his breath fanning my neck as he spoke,
“if you say anything about this, i will personally come for you. got it love?” as he finished his sentence, before he walked away, i heard a faint click sound. i didn’t know what it was but i looked into the distance when he walked off. i didn’t think much of it and did what i came to do.
that’s when everything went to shit.
Tumblr media
“y/n, you have to get out of here. right now.” the entire volleyball team came running into my room except for their captain. sungyoon was packing my stuff off the table, while joochan was helping me find my hoodie and a hat. he put it on my head quickly before he continued to pace around the room to find something else. donghyun was picking up my bag, while jaehyun was grabbing my phone. i stood there completely clueless before daeyeol grabbed my arm, pulling me out of my dorm.
“what the fuck is going on?” i looked up at daeyeol then turned around when i heard a huge thump. i saw that jangjun, joochan and youngtaek were all laying on top of each other groaning because they all tried to go through the door at the same time.
“we don’t have time to explain right now, but just know that if you don’t leave soon, getting an explanation will be the least of your worries.” daeyeol shook his head putting his hand on my lower back pushing me towards the door of the dorm building. that’s when i realized why they were trying to get me out of the building. bomin’s “to be fiance”, and bomin’s mother were getting out of the car when we walked out.
“hyung i told you we shouldn’t have gone this way.” jibeom looked down mumbling under his breath before pulling me away from their eyes. well at least he tried. joochan stepped in a few seconds later telling me that he had it all under control. i looked up at him questioning what he meant. we continued walking which caused joochan to hang back to talk to jaehyun.
“boys! just the people i was looking for. what a coincidence.” his fiance giggled but narrowed her eyes at me when she noticed i was hanging out with the team. i mean i didn’t usually so i would be weirded out too.
“who the fuck are you?” she scoffed walking up to me just as joochan smoothly jumped over seungmin who was tying his shoe laces. he slid his arm around my waist pulling me to face him completely. i looked up at him shocked at his actions then looked back at the girl.
“she’s my girlfriend, who the fuck are you?” he mocked back at her before turning to laugh with jangjun who was making jokes in my ear about her to make sure i wasn’t freaking out. i looked back at him giggling at him when he was telling me that he had my back.
“when’d you get a girl chan?” she laughed then rolled her eyes looking around to see if there was anyone walking out of the building behind us. she then looked at daeyeol crossing her arms, and scoffed. as joochan was about to reply to her she held up her hand to get him to stop talking.
“okay no. i understand that you think you’ve got it going for you but i don’t think you should be bossing people around like you own the place, especially my man.” i shrugged walking out of joochan’s arms and up into her face. her jaw dropped when she realized i had just talked back to her. she took a deep breath with her eyes narrowed at me then held up her hand to shoo me away.
“you’re irrelevant right now. daeyeol have you seen a bitch with bomin lately? apparently she’s been trying to slide in with my man.” she scoffed swiping on her phone to hold up the picture. i realized it was me. daeyeol gave me a side glance which gave me a message that i needed to get out of there. now.
“boys, let’s go. and we haven’t, but then again any ‘bitch’ hanging out with bomin is always better than the bitch in front of us.” jangjun scoffed then laughed when he was pushing joochan and i to start walking. we all started walking off, and when bomin’s mom and his fiance walked into the building, bomin showed up out of nowhere.
“i’ll take her from here. thank you boys.”  he smiled at me holding his hand out to me. i crossed my arms refusing to take his hand but of course, all he had to do was grab my arm pulling me towards the side of the building where it was out of the sight of his mother and to be fiance. he put me up against the wall with his hands on my shoulders. he looked over my shoulder once before turning back to look at me.
“thank you for playing along with the boys. if i went, it would have caused suspicion, so thank you.” he was genuinely thanking me. was bomin actually a nice kid? was he protecting me right now? he put his hand on my cheek caressing my cheek before looking me straight into the eyes.
“well i didn’t know what was going on and i figu-” i started my sentence only to see that his eyes moved down to look at my lips. i bit my lip only to meet his eyes again. he kept his eyes on mine, and we stared into each other’s eyes for at least ten minutes, well it felt like ten minutes. then he spoke.
“can i kiss you?”

[4:36PM]
Hand in hand with your boyfriend Sungyoon skipping to the cotton candy station you couldn’t be more happy. Whenever you could have dates with Sungyoon it was special but Valentines day nearing the corner made everything 10x more better. Getting snacks and spending the day with Sungyoon felt like pure puppy dog love. Seeing the ferris wheel you both knew what had to happen. Quickly running in line it felt so fast to once you got on that seeing the city around you from so high above lit up from under you, it was ethereal to spend it with the man you love.
“You know Sungyoon I love you so much” You said out of no where, completely whipped in love staring at him with admiration. Sungyoon couldn’t help but giggle at the situation. Sungyoon thought no better chance then now to kiss you, like a true romance rom com. Leaning in he planted the softest kiss to your lips that you gladly accepted, he hummed breaking into a smile.
“I love you more.” He said lips still so close together they where touching, the grin could not escape his face as the blush on yours became prominent.
