heads up! food mentions
"i'm sorry. i know it isn't much, but money's a little tight right now, so..."
youngtaek lets you take his wrist into your hands, raising it up so that you can tie a bracelet around it. your fingers are warm as they brush against his skin, and he just stares at the tiny beads for a moment. it spells out his given name, separated by tiny flowers, but you raise your wrist a moment later to reveal you have a matching one for yourself.
"so... we match now." you give him this uneasy smile, yet he sees how scared you are in your eyes. you genuinely think he wouldn't like it? or that he'd be upset with you for prioritizing your own well-being? "i also pitched in a little for the cake--and for dinner, too, but, um, daeyeol kept telling me not to worry about it, and--"
he gazes at you so softly now. "i love you." he pauses, catching himself. shit, he didn't mean to say that, and he quickly tries to cover it up, "i love it! thank you--you didn't have to bring me anything."
you just smile shyly, that fear in your eyes gone. with a relieved sigh, you drop your hands back to your side. "should we go back in?" you nod toward where the others have hopefully set up donghyun's gaming console so you all can play party games (and maybe annoy daeyeol's neighbors).
his hand grazes against yours for a moment. we don't have to yet, he wants to say. he likes getting this time alone with you. but the two of you will ride home together on the bus before parting ways at the end of the night. he thinks it's selfish to keep you to himself now, even on his birthday.
you pause at the sliding door, turning back to youngtaek. "happy birthday, by the way. i know i said it before, but..." for a moment, you just fidget, only to look up when jangjun yells something out to the two of you that youngtaek doesn't fully catch. you smile again, brighter than the candles on his birthday cake. sweeter, too. "shall we?"
if you're going? then he'll always follow, if just to see that smile again.

482/3100 word october
[unsweet treats] Youngtaek was sure of it this time. He told his friends, he told the full moon, he told his freaking mom. This Halloween. This was the one where he’d finally tell you how he feels.
If only your neighbourhood wasn’t absolutely bumping.
Youngtaek honestly didn’t believe you when you said your house was a hot spot in the middle of the buzzing beehive that is your neighbourhood on your favourite holiday — he’s only ever handed out candy from his own house before you’d come over for your annual horror movie marathon — but now he’s pretty sure he never wants to hear the words “trick” or “treat” ever again. Especially in succession.
“Listen,” he says. “I really need to tell you something.”
“Hm?” You look at him, eyes glimmering with what he hopes is hope.
“I—”
The doorbell rings. Again. “Trick or treat!”
Damn kids.

Your college years were meant to be this big step forward in life. Maybe that was why you were panicking so much the night before move-in day.
As you laid in bed, you mentally went back over everything. Your move-in time was early in the morning tomorrow, which meant you needed to get to sleep soon so that you wouldn’t be too much of a hassle for your parents to deal with come morning. Everything had always been packed away nice and neat and, aside from a few last minute things, was completely ready to go. You had checked everything twice before you and your family packed things up, and the bare walls and, well, everything of your room was enough proof for you. It wasn’t like you had the car packed slam full—but you took everything you would need. Some decorations for your side of the room, your clothing, school supplies… You weren’t the kind of person who hoarded things. Therefore everything you had was in that car. Your parents would be driving you to campus and helping you unpack, and then leaving you there to rely on public transportation within the city. Not that you minded: you liked not having to worry about gas prices. Despite the fact you knew everything was taken care of, all you could do was stare up at the faded glow-in-the-dark stars on your ceiling with this ugly pit of dread in your stomach.
Beside your head, your phone buzzed with a text, screen lighting up. Against the background of you and him smushed into the same frame (a selfie from your movie night a few weeks ago), Vernon was asking if you were still awake.
[baja blast 🚀] god you’re insufferable
[baja blast 🚀] what if i WAS asleep rn? huh?
[mr chwe 👽] you’ll live :)
[mr chwe 👽] i’m outside btw
[mr chwe 👽] also not to bribe you but i brought taco bell.
Shoving your blankets off of you, you made your way to your window to see that Vernon was, in fact, standing outside. He squinted up at your window before smiling proudly, holding up the bag triumphantly while not even risking the drinks in the cup holder he was carrying. He looked so, so stupidly proud of himself. Despite how your heart raced a little at the sight of your long-time best friend cheesing at you, you rolled your eyes and fought back a smile. You wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of making you happy this soon. Snagging your hoodie from your nearby chair, you made your way downstairs and out of the house. Soon enough, you were sitting next to your best friend, watching him carefully dish out your food.
“We’re still getting breakfast tomorrow, right?”
Completely unrelated to your friendship, which had been set in stone since middle school, Vernon just so happened to be going to the same college as you. While you had been excited over your own program, Vernon had caught sight of their film program and practically fell in love with it (although you couldn’t remember all the details he gushed to you about). Plus he guessed the added bonus of having you around did sweeten the deal a little bit. The two of you had decided to get breakfast tomorrow morning after you both moved into your dorms… Although you knew Vernon pretty well at this point. He’d already met two of his roommates. One of them was some education major named Boo Seungkwan, who Vernon had already said he’d introduce you to sometime. The other was Seo… something. You couldn’t recall his given name, but he was ‘chill enough’ according to Vernon.
You tore open a sauce packet, giving a casual shrug. “If your roommates don’t steal you away first.”
“Hey, no, c’mon,” he lightly kicked you. “If they wanna come, then I’m fine with it if you are. I think you’re really gonna love Seungkwan. He’s super nice.”
Not more than I love you, you know, you had wanted to say. Instead, you shoved the thought back. The two of you had been friends for years at this point and you’d managed to hide your crush pretty damn well, so you didn’t need for it to start getting in the way now. And, sure, said crush had only developed two years ago (something about the sight of your best friend being ready to throw hands with your shitty ex-boyfriend was enough to endear you to him for life), but Vernon was always your best friend first. There was no way you were going to destroy your friendship with him by confessing. College would be different, you were sure of it. Somehow, you would find a way to move on and keep your bond safe.
But what if I want you to myself for another day? What then, Vernon?
You looked back up at him, licking sauce off of your fingers from where it spilled over your food and onto them. “You really haven’t met the other guy yet?”
He looked up at you, one hand adjusting the band of his beaning. “Who, Chan? Nah. I mean, he emailed me a couple times. Seems pretty nice, though. Apparently he’s this super smart whiz kid who graduated early, so he’s younger than me and Seungkwan. Same age as Changbin, though.”
Changbin. You nodded along, committing the name to memory. Seo Changbin. Lee Chan. Boo Seungkwan. You chewed slowly, acutely aware of how perfectly Vernon knew your order by now. Same way you knew his. “Anything else?”
Vernon shook his head, only to stop dead in his tracks. “Oh, shit, wait—” He reached into his pockets, snagging his phone from it. “Apparently he’s this hot-shot dancer who’s set on joining the guys dance team. I found him on YouTube at some dance competition—he’s good.”
You’d already heard about the dance team. It wasn’t easy to get into, but that was due to the team being pretty damn legendary since several famous choreographers now came from there. Allegedly, the current dance captain of the guy’s team was remarkable strict when it came to performing every since he took over the role last year (something Hoseok—you’d never cared for the team because you couldn’t join, so you never committed the name to memory), but they were thriving nonetheless. Rumor said he was already being offered a job with some huge company to choreograph for idols. He was strict, but definitely not without reason if that were the case. Sure enough, Vernon was true to his word: this Chan guy was talented.
“What about you?” Vernon asked after he set his phone down. “You’ve only got the one roommate. What’s she like?”
Ah, yes. The pre-med major you knew next to nothing about because she barely responded to your emails—which, truthfully, wasn’t a huge deal. She seemed pretty nice from what you could gather, but you only imagined she’d be busy since she offhandedly said she’d be spending most of her time in the library. Honestly, you didn’t mind it as much. Whereas you’d be staying in a smaller room with a single roommate and a communal bathroom, Vernon would have a suite with a shared bathroom between the two rooms. Maybe if you could trust the four guys to keep it clean (you’d seen Vernon’s room growing up—you just hoped at least one or two of the others were cleaner than him), you’d be fine with sleeping over once or twice for movie nights with Vernon. Something told you that Vernon’s friendship with Seungkwan was going to be different than whatever you had with your roommate. Apparently the two were talking way more than the few messages you’d exchanged with your own roommate.
Not that you were jealous, of course. (Maybe you were a little of how easily they were getting along.)
“It doesn’t feel real yet, y’know?” You broke the comfortable silence that had grown between the two of you. “College, I mean.”
He nodded along, leaning against one of the posts on your front porch. “I get it,” he said after a long sip from his cup of soda. “It’s weird. Kinda still feels like we just met yesterday.”
Sixth grade science class, the first class you ever took in middle school. Your teacher had decided to randomly generate her seating chart, and the two of you had ended up at that same table. Call it chance or fate, you were glad either way. Vernon had liked spaceships you doodled on your notes, and quietly asked if you believed in aliens. You had looked at him, staring for a little too long and apparently scaring the shit out of him (he confessed that he’d been terrified you were about to chew him out), and confirmed that you definitely did… and the rest was pretty much history. Although you weren’t a hundred percent sure of your stance on aliens anymore (the universe was huge, you weren’t sure if you were entirely alone in it), the two of you had kept the emojis as a reminder of where the two of you began. A rocket by your name in Vernon’s phone with rotating remarks (baja blast was the most recent after you choked on it due to some stupid meme he’d shown you), and he’d always have some variation of his own name (Mr. Chwe after your karaoke night where you dragged him into singing “Mr. Chu” with you) with that little alien emoji right next to it.
“I’m glad you’re in this with me.” The words tumbled out of your mouth before you’d even fully processed them, and you suddenly looked up to figure out what you needed to do next. Apologize? Distract him? Kiss him, if this were a movie? Vernon just sat there, staring at you with slightly parted lips.
Then he blinked, realizing you were watching him, and threw on that charmer smile he sometimes used when flirting with girls. “Yeah,” he said, a little distant as he started to pack up the trash from your late-night meal. “Same. We’re gonna destroy this campus, y’know?”
You’d just laughed at him, making some jab that you wouldn’t remember in a few weeks before you moved to help him clean up. He’d toss the garbage once he got home as he tucked the other crunchwrap he’d bought (for Sofia, no doubt—even for a meal with you, he was always thinking of her) into the front pocket of his hoodie. You stood on your front porch, watching him walk down to the end of your driveway before turning back. He waved at you, and all you could do was smile and wave back before heading back inside.
True to his word, Vernon got breakfast with you that following morning after the two of you had moved into your dorms. He brought along Seungkwan (the only roommate who had moved in—Chan and Changbin would be moving into their room later), who seemed to get along with, well, anyone who spoke to him for more than a few seconds. You had listened as Vernon started talking about this record store off campus that he’d apply to work for so he’d have extra spending money (“Y’know, for dates and stuff?”), making your own mental list of the places you applied to work at both on and off campus.
Weirdly enough, when you watched the animated way Seungkwan and Vernon spoke to one another, you felt this odd sinking feeling in your chest. But instead you decided to wash it down with a coke and rejoin the conversation, Seungkwan all too happy to include you in his music talk.
Tumblr media
Freshman year, a few months in, and Vernon had already invited you to an off-campus party.
He’d meshed well with several of the sophomores in his general education courses, and that had been his “in” to this kind of thing. He’d told you a bit about them, and that some guy named Seokmin was the one who invited him along. When Vernon asked if he could invite you along, Seokmin seemed completely on board—the more the merrier, apparently—and said he’d pick the two of you up wherever Vernon told him to. Which, turns out, to be your dorm. The night of the party left Vernon lying on your bed as you looked through your wardrobe, your roommate out for the night, studying yet again. You were just trying to find something nice to wear.
You let out a sigh. “I don’t know about this, dude,” you said, pushing aside your shirts to find a decent one for a party. Whereas Vernon stood on that line between introvert and extrovert, you were a little more introverted and it seemed to show in your wardrobe in that stereotypical way. You preferred comfier clothing to the traditional “party” attire other people sometimes wore whenever they felt like (no shade to them to be fair: they rocked the look). Unfortunately for you, it left you a little out of luck for parties. One of your new friends, Minho, had even pegged you as being more of a bookish introvert from your wardrobe alone. At least it meant you were comfortable in class. “You said this party is gonna be huge.”
“And I’ll be right there with you the entire time,” he said. “C’mon. How many parties have you gone to already?”
There was this soft, pale blue sweater sitting in front of you that Vernon had bought for your birthday last year. It wasn’t expensive or anything, but… did you want to risk it at a college party? Sure, you could get any stains out if you needed to, even if you had to stay up all night to do it. You sighed. “Zero.”
“And how many have I invited you to?”
“I dunno. Four? Most of the time you run off with your buddies and forget all about me.”
“I don’t forget,” he said, frowning. “I only invite you when I know you aren’t busy. You’re the one who signed up for an extra class during the first week—I don’t wanna bother you when I know you’re studying.”
Of course Vernon was thinking of you. Despite his thoughtfulness, you pouted as you looked over your shoulder at him. “Close your eyes so I can change or I’m gonna change my mind about going.”
Wordlessly, he turned over onto his side, and the mattress groaned underneath him as he did. He settled, and didn’t move any further, giving you the chance to strip your shirt off and drop it into the bottom of your closet, staring at your shirts again. Shit, which one…?
“It’s nothing I haven’t seen before,” he said, quiet enough that you weren’t sure whether you were supposed to hear him or not.
Maybe he had a slight point there. The two of you were close. You had changed in front of him plenty of times before without thinking about it—hell, you didn’t even care when the two of you were in your early teens. You’d go to the pool with him and strip off your cover-up before an adult scolded you for it, saying something about how it wasn’t “proper” for girls to do that kind of thing around boys. Why did Vernon get to pull his shirt off, but you had to go to a changing room? You’d always despised it, but maybe it was for the best now. If people saw you and Vernon like this, they’d ask you what the two of you were. If he was your boyfriend or not. You weren’t exactly ready to confront those feelings and feel the bitter sting of rejection quite yet. Plucking a band t-shirt from a hangar, you stared down at it before looking at Vernon… and then you tossed it at him, pulling on that baby blue sweater instead and deciding to change into a nice pair of jeans quickly. People might give you looks, but you were genuinely the kind of person who got cold easily. You didn’t need to give Vernon an excuse to push his jacket onto you, too, always insisting that you stay warm.
His phone dinged a moment later. “Oh, shit,” he sat up, “Hao’s outside.”
You looked up from where you were stepping into a pair of black jeans. “Hao?”
“Hao’s one of the guys—” Vernon turned around without thinking, only to immediately whip back around to give you privacy. “There’s Minghao, the philosophy major. Super smart dude. Seokmin’s the theater guy who invited us to this, aaand Mingyu, who’s still stuck between a couple things but he said he’d make up his mind before the end of the semester.”
“Is anyone I know going to be there?”
“Seungkwan’s coming,” Vernon said. “Chan’s busy with a paper. You’ll be stuck in the back with me, though.”
“Gross,” you stuck your tongue out. “You sure I can’t talk Seungkwan into switching?”
He rolled his eyes, throwing your shirt back at you as he hid his smile. “You know you love me.”
You flopped onto the space next to Vernon so that you could pull on one of your boots, and he looked at you with a smile. “So you always say.”
After lacing up your boots, the two of you made your way down to the van that was awaiting the two of you. Introductions happened after you were both squared away in the back. You did notice that Seungkwan gave Mingyu a look when he asked if the two of you were really just friends. Had he been able to do it more secretly, maybe Seungkwan would have kicked him for it. But you were more focused on learning a little more about Vernon’s friends. Minghao was a dancer on that prestigious dance team alongside Chan and a few other guys that Vernon knew, and he’d met Vernon through his philosophy class (he’d once been a literature major, only to switch at the end of freshman year). Seokmin had met him in the dining hall one day, inviting him over when he was about to eat alone since you were in a lecture, and the two seemed to hit it off pretty well—which led to Vernon meeting Mingyu. Seungkwan had already known Mingyu from a class the two had shared, and he’d known Seokmin through the school choir. It made you feel a little self conscious that the only person who really knew you here was Vernon (as you only knew Seungkwan through him). But Vernon’s shoulder had bumped into your own, and it reassured you. Making friends would be easier if you just talked to them a little more. That was why you were coming with him: to meet people.
Unfortunately for you, the party was pretty fucking packed. Vernon had swore on the ride over that if he wasn’t with you, then one of his friends would be watching your back. He knew how shitty people could be to girls at parties, and he seemed intent on staying close to keep you safe. With a hand at the middle of your back, he’d introduced you to a few people he already knew. From across the crowded room, he could hear someone yelling his name (some dude named Seungcheol who he knew from work), and Vernon had excused himself from you to go say hi. Vernon would introduce him to you some other time when Seungcheol was… well, sober. He’d carried off his red solo cup of beer and felt Seungcheol throw an arm around his shoulder the moment he was close enough to, already introducing himself to a couple other seniors—Jeonghan and Joshua.
Time slipped through his fingers like the beer in his cup, though, and it took several drinks for Vernon to realize… He couldn’t see you anywhere. Fuck. He’d gotten carried away with talking to Joshua (who had been abstaining from drinking that night—he was there to watch Jeonghan and Seungcheol) about the States that at some point, he stopped glancing back to check on you. Seungcheol had already teased him one too many times about “that girl he obviously likes” while giving some tips on how to hook up with you (out of the question: Vernon liked you too much and knew you too well to try and treat you so casually) that he’d stopped looking so often. Somewhere along the way, you’d just disappeared at some point. He excused himself from the conversation, glancing at his phone to realize just how long he’d been talking to them. He avoided the occupied bedrooms, knocking on bathrooms and calling your name, pushing through people-heavy rooms in an attempt to see that baby blue sweater.
“Oh, her?” Seokmin had said when Vernon finally found him and Minghao in the kitchen. “She left. I told you maybe half an hour ago.”
Vernon furrowed his brow. He hadn’t even seen Seokmin… hadn’t he? “What?”
Seokmin glanced around, and guided a little further into the kitchen to get away from the loud music, right next to where an open window was.. The cool night air hit his warmed skin, and Seokmin’s gaze could have sobered him up alone. “She told me she was going to get an Uber and went home,” he repeated. “Weren’t you listening?”
Vernon scrambled for his phone again. “Yeah,” he lied, “totally. Just wanted to make sure you remembered…”
[ mr headphones 👽] did you get back safe?
Seokmin glanced from Vernon’s face to the illuminated screen, not bothering to try and read it. “Right,” he said. “I’m going back inside. She’s probably fine. Mingyu’s been outside—You can ask him if he saw her leave.”
Vernon barely responded, and Seokmin merely merged back into the conversation with Minghao. He dumped his drink into the sink, and made his way outside instead. Fuck, you’d left early? And you didn’t even tell him anything? If you weren’t having fun, he would have ditched this place to be with you. Wherever you wanted to go, he’d follow. What was the point of bringing you out if you were miserable the entire time? He stared down at his phone, tapping his foot as he waited for something—even the response bubble with those three little dots—to pop up in your texts. He should call you. But his head was still fuzzy from the alcohol in his system. He scratched the back of his neck, moving further away from the doors. Maybe he shouldn’t have drank tonight to begin with. Not when you were with him. He kicked himself for even inviting you out. Parties weren’t your thing—not big ones like this, anyway. You were fine in situations where you knew people, he’d just thrown you to the sharks and then entirely fucked off because Seungcheol called him over.
Maybe he should have just set up a movie night for the two of you like he wanted to. And… if Seungkwan or Chan had wanted to join, they could have. It could be like old times again.
[🚀] 👍
He breathed a sigh of relief as soon as the message popped up. You were fine. Most likely, you’d made it back to campus and gone up to your room, and then taken a shower. Vernon leaned back against the wall, letting his head fall back against the brick as he shut his eyes. There were other parties he could have taken you to, other parties with less people than this one. This place was too cramped, too crowded, and you were probably getting overheated in that stupid cute sweater you loved wearing so much. You were too pretty in it for him to say otherwise, though, even though he felt like it was a bad idea when drunk idiots could spill their shitty beer all over it.
Minghao had finally found him again outside while he was rounding up the people he was responsible for. How long had he stood outside, bobbing his head to the blasting music he could still hear—albeit muffled—from where he stood? He kept staring down at his phone screen and that singular emoji from you, this nagging feeling in the back of his head. He wasn’t sure how long, but it’d been long enough for Minghao to drag him back to the car where the others were. Seungkwan was silently toying with the paper wrapper of the water bottle someone (Minghao, he’d find out barely a minute later: he carried them with him for the drunk idiots he had to get home) had pressed into his hands. Seokmin was still giggling about something, apparently having drank more since Vernon last saw him. Mingyu kept whispering things to Seokmin that’d send him into further giggles. In the back of that van, Vernon suddenly felt your absence way more. On the drive over, he’d been showing you stupid memes and cat videos he’d been compiling in a playlist for you. He’d heard your laugh, and felt the weight and warmth of your body as it pressed against his. Now all he could smell was the reek of alcohol and Seokmin’s laugh, alongside the feeling of Seungkwan staring at him every so often, lips pressed tight together.
It wasn’t until long after they were back at the dorm that Seungkwan finally spoke up. He’d been standing next to him in the bathroom, cleaning his face while Vernon was brushing his teeth. “Is she okay?”
Vernon looked up with a muffled “hmpfh?” in response. He’d sobered up more since Minghao brought him back, walking the two up to the entrance of their building and making them promise to drink more water once they got to their room. One movie later, and Vernon’s head finally felt a little clearer than it did before.
“Your friend.” Seungkwan paused, and then said your name after a moment. “Someone kept harassing her at the party. He only left her alone once I stepped in, but she left after that happened.”
Vernon spat hard into the sink, wiping his mouth with his sleeve and whipping around to face Seungkwan. “What?”
“Ew.” Seungkwan wrinkled his nose as he glanced at Vernon’s sleeve, but let whatever he wanted to say next. He turned back to himself in the mirror, “Minghao offered to drive her home, but she turned it down in case one of us needed him. She said she’d get an Uber, and he went outside to wait until he saw her get in. I think he said he got her number and told her to text him as soon as she was home safely.”
… Why hadn’t you said any of that to him? Fuck, why didn’t you find him when that guy was messing with you? He would have outright told him to go fuck himself and to leave you alone. He looked at the time on his phone again and scowled: it was far too late to call you. If Seungkwan had mentioned it earlier… No. It wasn’t Seungkwan’s fault. Vernon would just text you in the morning and get breakfast with you as an apology for not being there for you when you needed him (and talk to you about what happened, if you were willing).
Sure enough, you’d agreed, and the two of you agreed to meet at this quaint little place off campus. He sat across from you, watching as you tore the paper off of your straw with this content smile. You pushed it into your cup of orange juice and looked up at him with his gleeful look in your eyes, always happy to start a morning like this. Any other time, he’d find it cute and your love of the drink endearing. But now…
“Hey…” He said. “Why didn’t you find me last night?”
“Hm?” You looked up at him, lips wrapped around your straw as you took a long sip. A moment later, you set the cup back down. “I didn’t want to bother you. Did you have fun? You guys looked like you were.”
“That’s not important,” he said. “Seungkwan told me some guy kept harassing you.”
Your smile fell, and you sank back into the cushioned seat. “You… You looked really into the conversation you were having with that guy. I didn’t want to interrupt.”
He sighed, “That doesn’t matter—” Vernon’s eyes met yours, and he frowned at you. “You’re my best friend. If some asshole is bothering you, you should tell me. We’re supposed to have each other’s backs.”
“I was fine, Vernon,” you said. “I wasn’t having fun, so that’s why I left. You fit into parties like that way better than I do. I don’t even know why you bothered inviting me.”
I asked you to come because I wanted you there, Vernon wanted to say. Deep down, he hoped to maybe show you off a little. To have someone maybe try and ask outright if you were his girlfriend (someone that wasn’t Mingyu, who he could chalk it up as Mingyu teasing him), and maybe use that to break into that conversation. The “are we just friends?” conversation he’d been wanting to have with you, yet kept shying away from because what if he misread all of it? The two of you were close. It’d taken him forever to figure out his feelings for you, and he was sure you felt… something to him. You hadn’t seen anyone else since classes started, at least. And he hadn’t seen anyone either. Maybe…
Maybe he was waiting for you to take that first step. Whether it was you telling him that he wasn’t being stupid and that you liked him back, or you straight up kissing him… He needed that sign in neon lights. He wasn’t going to gamble and fuck this up.
“Still…” His foot nudged yours underneath the table. “I care about you a lot, y’know? If you aren’t having fun, then we’ll go do something else.” He paused, and extended his pinkie out to you. “We’re a pair.”
There was that pretty smile he loved so much. You rolled your eyes a second later, locking your pinkie around his own. “Yeah,” you said. “We’re a pair… But you’re still paying for our pancakes.”
(Fuck, he loved you too much.)
Tumblr media
Vernon stopped inviting you to parties.
It took you a little longer than it should have to realize it, considering it had been a few months since then. He’d go out, post pictures and status updates on his social media of and about him and his friends and whatever they were up to. That didn’t mean he stopped inviting you places altogether: he just started making different plans for you. Smaller get-togethers with his (and your) friends, things that were more comfortable for you. Seungkwan always treated you kindly whenever you came around, happy to keep you involved in the conversation whenever he noticed it was veering a little too off to one side. Sometimes Chan would join in, and Changbin—the other roommate, who you actually ended up befriending pretty easily—did, too. Sometimes you’d invite Minho along, too. Your little group would either go out on the weekends, finding something fun to do within the city. Other times, you would all curl up in their suite and watch movies together (or play games—Chan had a Switch and the extra controllers so that you could all play alongside him). You’d never forget waking up next to Vernon during finals week. The two of you had been studying for the psychology class that you shared. For a moment, you wondered if this was what your life could look like if you just told him. But you’d seen how feelings could ruin a friendship: two of your friends in high school had broken apart because one confessed their unreciprocated feelings. They’d never been the same. You wouldn’t let that be you and Vernon.
So you shoved your feelings aside again and again. Even now, as you were waiting alone in a fast food place for Vernon. He was standing toward the front, waiting for your order. This was supposed to be some kind of study session, actually: the two of you had a biology lab that you needed to work on that was due a few days from now. It was Vernon’s idea to do it over lunch. Unlike last semester, the two of you shared way more gen ed classes—save for your English one, although he was just in the other section for it.
Despite your confidence in your friendship with Vernon… You couldn’t help but wonder if maybe he pitied you a little more than he did before. You’d been fine with making friends in high school, but college? Aside from Vernon, you had to build things back up entirely. You had Lee Minho—he’d been in one of your gen ed classes last semester, and he was in your English class now—but that was the only real friend you’d made on your own. Then again, you kind-of talked to the guy in your Japanese class, Youngtaek. He’d confided with you during your first class that he could speak Japanese just fine, but the school wouldn’t let him test out of it, so he’d just take it as a boost to his GPA. He didn’t make fun of your confused pronunciations, either, always kindly correcting you before he slid you his number in case you needed his help. But… That was the extent of it. Sure, you knew Minho’s cats’ names, and you kind-of knew about Youngtaek’s other friends… That was it, though. You were still lost, trying to find your footing in this difficult time in life. Most of freshman year had slipped past you before you’d known it, and now you were just there. Still lost in who you were and what you really wanted in life. And now you knew that Vernon would cancel his plans with other people just to hang around you.
When did this all feel so complicated?
The sound of the tray hitting the table pulled you out of your thoughts, and Vernon slid into the other side of the booth. He started to dish out your respective meals, talking about the biology report that you’d honestly stopped caring about as he did so. Sitting next to the window meant you could see how pretty his eyes were when the sunlight hit them. You’d always thought Vernon had beautiful eyes, regardless of where the two of you were… But the way they looked when the sunlight hit them? That was the most beautiful thing you’d ever seen in your life. How did you manage to get a best friend who was not only handsome, but funny and sweet and—
“You good?”
Shit. You nodded. “Just thinking.”
He smiled a little, setting your drink in front of you before he put the tray aside. “Don’t worry about it. It’s just one lab report. We’ve got this.”
Sometimes, you truly admired how confident he could be in your abilities… and the way he accidentally just gave you an out. “I guess I’m just thinking about the next lab,” you shrugged. “Dissection is…”
“Oh. Dude. We could totally ditch.”
You furrowed your brow as you looked up from where you were unwrapping your meal. “You sure? We only get one free pass in this class. Most people save it for the last lab.”
“I mean… I don’t want to dissect shit. You don’t want to dissect shit. We’re only taking this course for the gen ed,” he shrugged. “I dunno. Maybe we could ditch and go see a movie or something.”
It reminded you of your senior year of high school together. The two of you ended up taking off in the middle of the day after Vernon found you upset, and you’d gone to an arcade instead. There was a polar bear plushie on your bed that you’d always kept from that day. And now he was willing to skip one of your biology labs for you.
The two of you ended up braving the lab anyway. Even though neither of you were completely fine with dissecting, well, anything, the two of you managed to get through it pretty fine. Other people would have to deal with worse in the future, you were sure, but for two non-biology majors, just getting through it was fine. The two of you ended up going off to the movies afterward anyway as a tiny reward for not being cowards. In the back row of an empty theater, you rested your head on Vernon’s shoulder. A moment later, you felt his lean against yours.
At least you knew Vernon loved you in some way.

Sophomore year marked a slight change in everything. Life began to get in the way for you and Vernon. Whenever he was free, you often weren’t, and you always seemed to be free when he wasn’t. Sure, you could maybe stop by the record shop to talk to him for a few minutes whenever you wanted to see him, but it wasn’t the same as having a movie night at his and Seungkwan’s dorms (which they’d returned to again this year—although it was more communal rather than a suite). And you… You didn’t want Vernon coming to your dorms.
The reason why? The same reason you were crying in the break room on your floor. The same fucking reason you were locked out of your dorm room for the third time in one week over the past few months. Your roommate was nice enough… when she was alone. Yet you’d heard her moaning when you came back up to get your textbooks, because you had a test coming up on Friday, and it was a major one. As nice as your roommate was, she never listened to you when you tried to set some kind of boundary like “can you give me a heads up before you start fucking your boyfriend in our dorm room?” considering she did this often. All you needed was a heads up so that you could get your shit and go somewhere else. It felt like you were never entirely alone in the dorm room for long: she or her boyfriend were always around. It wasn’t even as though she were studying in the room. They’d always fuck there, and your roommate never gave you any proper warning first despite the fact you’d always make it clear when something major was coming up and you needed to have some access to your study materials.
Like you said: if she wanted to fuck her boyfriend, fine, but at least let you get your shit first. It wasn’t as if you had anywhere else to keep your books.
You tried to call Vernon for some kind of reassurance. Either he’d calm you down, or he’d bitch about your roommate’s rude behavior with you. He didn’t pick up, though, only texting back that he was busy at the moment. You buried your face in your hands, trying not to sob again. Even if you had your books, the library was always packed around this time. Where else could you study that was nice and quiet? Fuck, you knew your roommate, too: there was no way you’d be getting back in within the next few hours.
So you ended up texting Changbin, who’d grown closer with you over the break. He told you to just come on over to his apartment without any hesitation. You pulled yourself together, stopping in the bathrooms long enough to look yourself over and calm down before you left. Changbin’s apartment was just off campus, and you’d been enough times that you knew the way by heart. It was only a short bus ride and a walk, but it gave you plenty of time to calm down even further (even if you did end up crying again while waiting on the bus). By the time you came up, you’d seen where Changbin was making the couch up for himself. Youngtaek had been standing in the kitchen, making fried rice for himself when you came in. He’d greeted you warmly enough, yet noticed the fact that you only carried your school bag with you. What other clothing would you have? You’d all but collapsed onto the couch, and all it took was Changbin opening his arms to you for you to move into them.
Thank fuck for Changbin’s extensive workouts. Those big buff arms could crush you like a grape, but they meant Changbin was great for hugs. Involuntarily, you let out a groan into his shoulder, and felt the way they shook with a tiny chuckle.
“It’s okay,” he said, amusement lighting up his voice. “Just get it out.”
You squeezed him tight instead, face buried into his shoulder. Changbin might be one of the most huggable men you’d ever met, if you were honest. The other side of the couch dipped as Youngtaek sat down, bowl in his hands.
“Is it really that bad?”
You pulled away from Changbin’s arms to give Youngtaek a look that could kill. He didn’t seem to flinch, continuing to eat his food without much care. “I couldn’t care less if she has sex in our room,” you said. “I just care that she keeps having sex in our room in the middle of fucking week. She doesn’t even go to class some days! And I’ve straight up heard them fucking on the bed behind me when I’m trying to sleep. I called her out and she kept acting like I’m the stupid one for thinking that, and that I’m the pervert even though I woke up one night to hear her giggling about not waking me up. I told her I don’t care if she does it on the weekend or gives me a heads up so I can get my things and leave, but she never does! I always come back and the door’s locked and her boyfriend’s always moaning—”
Changbin just wordlessly pushed Gyu, his Munchlax plush, into your arms. You hugged him tight, and Changbin leaned forward to get a better look at your face. He slowly said your name, making you look back up. “Why don’t you move in with us?”
“Don’t you have another roommate?”
“He’s moving out in a few days,” Youngtaek said. “Something happened with his family. He said things are under control now, but he’s still going to transfer after this semester to somewhere closer to home. It’s not ideal circumstances, but for you… You’d be getting your own room.” He nodded toward the unlabeled door. “It’s small, like our rooms, but it’d be yours. You wouldn’t have to live on campus anymore, or share a room.”
… Honestly, that didn’t sound bad at all. You hugged Gyu closer to your chest, thinking over it. “I’d have to talk to student housing, and return my key, and find someone who can help me move if I don’t just hire someone—”
“Wooyoung knows someone,” Changbins said. “I’ll ask him to talk to Yunho.”
Something about how quick both of them were to help you made your breath hitch, your heart swelling within your chest. All of a sudden, the frustration seemed to slip away, and you had begun to tear up. The stress had been building for weeks now of dealing with a roommate that never respected you—hell, it wouldn’t surprise you if she was just acting nice to your face. It made you miss your freshman roommate. At least she was nice to you and gave you a heads up when she was bringing friends over, since you always extended the same courtesy to her. The one time you tried to tell your current roommate that the room was yours too, she called you a prude for trying to stop her from having fun.
Hours later, Vernon called you while you were watching a movie with Youngtaek and Changbin. It wasn’t the studying you needed to be doing, but it was a nice alternative since you couldn’t. You’d stepped into Changbin’s room to answer, listening as Vernon mentioned that Seungkwan had seen you crying earlier at the bus stop. Your grip tightened a little around your phone. Shit, so Vernon knew that something was wrong, and you couldn’t dodge the subject easily.
“Roommate kicked me out again—”
“Again?!” He groaned. “Dude—You really need to talk to her. Get the RA involved.”
“It’s fine,” you said. “I’ve already made plans.”
A pause on his end. “You wanna come over? I just got back from work, but I can maybe find a movie for us to watch—”
“It’s okay.” You leaned against the wall. “I’m at Changbin’s. He’s letting me take his room for the night.” For a moment, you hesitated. “... I think I’m going to move out of the dorms as soon as I can.”
“Wait, for real?”
Despite him being unable to see you, you nodded. “I already emailed student housing about it, so they’ll have to get back to me. I think I’m gonna at least pack a bag and bring some of my stuff over here in case I need an out. Binnie’s already texted one of his friends about helping me move out, since I think he knows someone with a big enough car for all of my stuff…” You let out a sigh. “I don’t think I’ll get my money back for this semester, but they should give me something for next semester since I won’t be living there.”
Vernon was quiet for a while. “You want some help?”
“Maybe,” you said. “I dunno how big the guy’s car is. I’ll keep you updated, alright?”
“You better.” He paused. “Is that all?”
You raised a brow. “Yeah?”
“That’s—I just wanted to know if anything else was wrong. That’s all.”
“I’m fine, Vernon,” you said. “Thanks for calling. I’ll see you later, alright?”
It was an empty promise, you were sure. But you let him answer back with that casual, “Yeah, for sure,” before ending the call, as though it were something to hold each other to.
The next day, you confronted your roommate. No more sex until you had moved out. If she wanted to fuck her boyfriend while you were getting everything in order, then she could take it to his place. She’d been quiet for the longest time when you broke the news to her, and then apologized to you. It was… weird to see, to be honest. She said something about trying to change if it meant you wouldn’t move out, and that had raised one of the reddest flags you’d ever seen. At first, you couldn’t wrap your head around why she’d drop everything so quickly. The last time, she’d been quick to insult you for asking to have access to your own room, and this time…
Oh. She was hoping you’d break and change your mind. Well, fuck that. You’d pulled out one of your boxes and bought a roll of tape, and started getting your shit in order. Moving would suck, sure, but at least you wouldn’t be stuck in this dorm anymore. A new roommate might tell her outright to fuck off and learn how to share a room with another person instead of treating it like its her room alone. Maybe if you were a little bolder, you would have done it yourself. She was allowed to have sex if she wanted it: but it wasn’t her room alone, and it never had been.
Within the next week, you were introduced to Wooyoung, who introduced you to Yunho in turn. Changbin hadn’t given either of them the full story past “my friend needs help moving out of her dorm because her roommate doesn’t respect her, can you help?” but that was fine with you. Changbin had been right there with you that day, too, to provide extra muscle in carrying your things. His other roommate had moved out over the weekend, which meant the room was ready for you. Although you tried to say that you didn’t need so many guys helping you move out, Changbin insisted further. That was what a good roommate did, after all: they were considerate.
(And, yes, he did say that while your roommate was curled up on her bed, watching your boxes slowly shrink in number.)
Youngtaek had been the one to suggest drafting up a roommate contract for the three of you once you got settled in. With your dorm room key turned in, and you receiving the key that Changbin and Youngtaek’s former roommate had, things felt a little more finalized. The two had a little housewarming celebration for you the night you moved in, and left you to start unpacking after you’d finished dinner with them.
This was nice. Things were nice again.
You ended up inviting Vernon over after giving your new housemates the proper heads up, and that, too, was nice. Vernon had barely taken a look at you before he realized just how much happier you seemed to be. Between work and classes and… well, life itself, you guessed, things had finally started to feel a little more normal. Just as soon as he arrived, Seokmin was texting him about some other party that was happening tonight. You just hugged him tight and thanked him for stopping by. It was good to see his face, even for a few minutes.
Tumblr media
It took several weeks of ditching you and canceling plans for Vernon to tell you what was going on.
“Well… There’s this girl…”
Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck—How were you supposed to respond to that? You reached for your drink, taking a quick sip to hopefully buy you a little more time to think as he kept explaining. There was a really nice girl in one of his film classes, Ji-woo, and they’d been talking a lot lately. Whenever he couldn’t drag you along to a movie he needed to see for class, she invited him into her own little group… and then alone, after the first few times. From the look on his face alone, you were sure that he was crushing. There was this subtle smile that Vernon always had when he talked about people. The lovestruck look in his eyes, so fond of whoever he was talking about.
“So you’re crushing pretty hard, huh?” was what you settled on after a while, cutting him off mid-conversation. Maybe it was selfish, but hearing him talk so highly about another person made your stomach churn.
He stared at you for a moment, and then kind of shifted into that cheesy, I-might-be-in-love smile, gaze averting from you. “Maybe. I dunno. I’m still getting to know her, and I don’t wanna do anything until I know I like her… I just…”
“Are you asking for my blessing, you dork?”
He snorted, picking up his drink. “I mean—What would you do?”
Die, maybe, the dramatic part of your brain yelled. Don’t date her. I love you. Please let me prove it.
“You already know the answer to that,” you said. “You’re my best friend. Of course I’d support you.”
Vernon stopped chewing at the end of his straw, staring at you for what felt like far too long. “... Right,” he said. “Yeah, of course—What was I thinking?”
(That he’d know. That he’d take one look at you and finally know if you loved him back. Instead you’re looking at him like you always do.)
“Well… Hey. Good luck,” you nudged him with your foot. “Anyone would be lucky to have you, you know. If you want, I can give you a discount at the flower shop.” You rested your head in your hand, “I’ll just use my employee discount. Fuck the rules.”
He laughed a little at that. “God, I love you.”
And you loved him, too. He was your best friend, even if the word stopped fitting so well.
Tumblr media
Barely a few weeks later, after the start of junior year, Vernon asked Ji-woo out. All you could say after a minute or two of bone-crushing silence was the weakest congratulations you’d ever given him.
(Youngtaek had been the one who held you as you refused to cry that night. He just wordlessly put his arms around you, squeezing you tight while you fought everything inside of you.)
And now, a little over a month, you were feeling the absence of Vernon in your life. It felt naive to think that it was fine at first, and that heartbreak you felt would be the end of feeling like shit. The ugly parts of grief and pain and disappointment in yourself were supposed to be over, right? Except now, you kept getting ditched for dates with Ji-woo. You knew that Vernon would focus on his relationship with her, and you told him that’d be fine. He liked her (at least, he said he thought he did—he was still figuring it out), at least enough to ask her out officially. No flowers, no fancy anything, he just asked her to be his girlfriend after that last date before he immediately told you the next day. You were his best friend, your relationship was set in stone: he was fully allowed to focus on the one that wasn’t.
Except, as you said, for the fact he kept fucking ditching you and it was starting to really hurt. At first, it had been movie nights at the theater where he promised to buy you popcorn to make up for the times before (Ji-woo had wanted to go to the arcade, and Vernon jumped at the opportunity). You had been left standing outside for almost half an hour before he finally remembered you existed. He’d called you that day, apologizing over and over before you asked if it was Ji-woo. When he said it was, you played the best friend as perfectly as you hoped you could and said you understood. Lots of people put their love life over their friendships in the beginning. That was what endless internet research told you at least. There were plenty of threads that said it would work itself out in time, that it was okay for you to take the back burner and just remind your friend you were still there before you’d boiled away to nothing. A healthy relationship involved both time with friends and time with your partner, not just one or the other.
Yet it kept happening. Movie nights with Vernon would get dropped within seconds because Ji-woo wanted to go out. You were left waiting in a coffee shop more than once with Vernon’s iced coffee melting across from you. The museum trip he’d promised you because it was this anime-themed exhibit (for an anime you two watched together in middle school) fell through and you ditched the idea of going on your own because it was less special that way. He only ever texted you at the last minute or hours later with another apology. It felt like all he ever did was apologize to you nowadays, and it was reaching a frustrating point. You swore you saw his friends more than you ever saw him. The last time you saw Vernon, he was with his girlfriend on campus, walking to class. You saw the way he looked at her (he used to look at you like that, you thought to yourself, whenever he actually looked at you), and you felt a pit of jealousy underneath this draining sense of grief. Seungkwan was still nice to you, though, and Chan would sometimes say hi. Seokmin even greeted you warmly whenever he saw you, happy to catch up since you rarely saw him (and it almost felt like he was your friend despite that). But Vernon…
You simply couldn’t care less. You had studies you needed to focus on instead. Sometimes you would leave Seungkwan’s contact open on your phone, always wanting to ask if Vernon had blown him (or anyone else) off for Ji-woo. There was a way to check. One simple text to send. But you didn’t: you didn’t want to know the answer. Not yet.
Vernon asked you if you wanted to go on a double date with him and Ji-woo. When you asked who you would be seeing, he simply said it’d be Seungkwan. So you stupidly said yes (probably giving Vernon the wrong idea), and the next day you were sitting next to Seungkwan in a diner booth and exchanging looks as he talked endlessly to his girlfriend rather than anyone else at the table. Is this what double dates were supposed to be? One couple talking the entire time? You didn’t think so. You and Seungkwan just looked at each other way too many times in disbelief. This fucking sucked.
Ji-woo excused herself to go to the bathroom, and you debated following her just to avoid whatever Vernon was about to ask next. It was the first time you were meeting her, after all. Ji-woo was nice. Bubbly, and sweet, and pretty, and you… really couldn’t hate her, if you were honest. When Vernon asked you if you wanted to come on this double date, you were expecting to find something to hate about her. Something you could justify being upset with him picking her over and over instead of spending even ten minutes with you. You’d never been like this when you had a boyfriend. Sure, your ex-boyfriend was shitty, but you still made time for both him and your friends. But between how pretty and sweet she was and the stupid loving look in Vernon’s eyes, all you felt was more guilt for being so mad at him.
“So… What do you guys think?” He asked quietly. “She’s great, right?”
Seungkwan had nodded along. “... I think she’s nice.”
… Was that reluctance? Before you could answer, your phone started ringing. You tapped Seungkwan’s arm, and he let you out of the booth so you could step outside to answer Changbin.
“Are you out? Minho said he saw you on a double date or something.”
Immediately, you started looking around for Minho. When the fuck did he see you? “Yeah,” you said after a moment, still trying to see if Minho was within view. You’d (jokingly) go kick his ass for saying something to Changbin. “Vernon wanted us to meet Ji-woo, I guess.”
The pause Changbin took before speaking again told you everything you needed to know. You probably shouldn’t have said that. “Are you okay?”
Changbin and Youngtaek, as your housemates, were the unfortunate witnesses to your disappointed returns to the apartment. Every time Vernon blew you off for his girlfriend, one (or both) of them would see you come home and already know what happened. It’d been Changbin, though, who dragged you out of the apartment after one of those instances. Fuck Vernon, he had said, we’re going out and getting ramen tonight. It was the best fucking ramen you’d had in weeks, but you were starting to think that it was moreso the company than the noodles themselves.
With a sigh, you sat down on the bench outside. “I’m fine, Binnie.”
“I can lie about breaking the coffee maker again,” he said immediately.
“You don’t have to—Wait. Again?”
“Just say the word and I’ll do it,” he quickly said. “Love you!”
With a sigh, you shoved your phone back into your pocket after he hung up on you. You’d confront him and Youngtaek about the coffee maker another time. The bell of the diner door rang behind you, and you almost stood up to use it as your own timer to go back inside and tell your friends that everything was fine—Changbin just wanted to know if you were gonna be home to eat dinner with him and Youngtaek. Except when you turned, Seungkwan was standing there.
“I’m going to sing karaoke instead. Do you want to come with me?”
You looked back toward the window. “What about Vernon—”
“He went to the bathroom after Ji-woo came back. I told her you seemed upset so I was going to walk you home.” Seungkwan crossed his arms. “Are you coming with me or not? I’m still mad that Vernon ditched our coffee date last week.”
You furrowed your brow. “He—”
“It was only the one time, but I’m still holding a grudge,” he said, sighing. “He should have texted. I wasted money on him since he said he’d be there.”
Well. That answered one of your questions. You said yes anyway, and Seungkwan immediately smiled, taking your hand and happily guiding you away. By the end of the night, your throat was raw and aching from screaming lyrics alongside Seungkwan, but it was comforting to know you weren’t alone. When he wasn’t entertaining you by yelling alongside you, his voice was genuinely beautiful to listen to. The two of you ended up getting street food together to replace the meal you didn’t have with Vernon and Ji-woo, and Seungkwan seemed a little happy to finally bitch about a couple things. While Vernon only blew him off the one time, it was enough to piss Seungkwan off because no one treated him like that. He’d chewed him out when he came back, saying that real friends called instead of leaving their friend to throw away a melted iced coffee. He later walked you to your bus stop, telling you goodnight as he squeezed your hands. The two of you should talk more (for non-bitching reasons, too). You watched him continue on toward the apartment he now shared with Vernon and Chan, and felt a little better about all of this.
At least you weren’t entirely alone.
Tumblr media
A few months later, your grandpa got sick. Despite the insistence that he would be fine, you were terrified. Everything around you seemed to spiral into disaster. Between late assignments and a failed test, it felt like you were going to just… break. Your family told you to finish out your semester and come see him during break, that this wasn’t serious and he’d lived through worse. All you could think about was the fact that the one person you could talk to about this just… wasn’t there for you. He was on a date with Ji-woo. You tried calling him, and he denied it on the second ring. He texted you back to ask if it was important, since he was on that date.
You told him it wasn’t and to have fun on his date. Changbin was busy, and so was Youngtaek, which meant you would turn to the only other person you often hung out with nowadays. Minho answered your text within seconds when you asked if you could come over, and then followed up that ‘yes’ with asking whether it was serious.
[ 🦀 ] it is. family stuff.
[ 🦀 ] is that okay?
[ 🐈 ] just wanted to be ready
[ 🐈 ] see you soon
You shoved your things into your hoodie pocket and made your way to Minho’s apartment. His roommate was out when you got there, and Minho made a comment about how Chris wouldn’t be back until later that night anyway—so it was just the two of you for a while. By the time you’d sat down with him, you were already breaking down crying. He listened as you cried, pushing a box of tissues your way (Minho came prepared for this) as soon as you needed it.
“You should trust your family on this,” he told you. “If they thought you needed to come home, they would be honest with you. If things suddenly changed and it looked like you might lose him, then they would tell you. Right?”
“Right, but…” Your grandpa wasn’t the only person you felt like you were losing now.
When was the last time you and Vernon hung out, not including the double date you and Seungkwan ditched? Before the semester started? Even then, he’d been ditching you to hang out with Ji-woo. Even now, you wished you could hate her. Or him. He was the one who was ditching you, not Ji-woo. Or maybe even both of them, when you thought about it now. Seungkwan had been the one who lied to her face and told her that you were upset about something, and you never heard a word from Vernon that night. What could Ji-woo have told him…? Fuck being mad at any of them at this point: that was energy you didn’t want to expend.
If this was how it ended, then so fucking be it.
Tumblr media
Except it wasn’t. That wasn’t how it would end, because Vernon broke up with Ji-woo five months later, long after you went home and saw your grandpa in better health. He posted something on his private Twitter about it, so you decided to text him.
[🚀] hey, i just saw your priv
[🚀] i’m so sorry things didn’t work out for you two. are you alright?
[vernon 👽] yeah just
[vernon 👽] idk it’s a lot to process
[vernon 👽] i don’t think i’ve figured it all out yet
[🚀] you wanna talk about it? i’m here if you need me.
[vernon 👽] idk she just kept blowing me off for stuff
[vernon 👽] i mean. she can have friends, that’s not a problem at all. i’m never gonna stop her from that.
[vernon 👽] but like… she kept canceling out dates at the last second, or she’d forget about our plans because one of her friends wanted to go do something and they got mad at her for spending all her time w me, so she figured she should spend more time w them
[vernon 👽] just started to feel like i wasn’t important to her, y’know?
[vernon 👽] like. not important enough to say ‘hey babe, suhyun wants to go to the amusement park and i’ve kind of neglected her, won’t make dinner today’
Oh. All at once, you were seething. As much as you wanted to feel bad for him, your anger kept building and building toward this ugly peak. Not now, you told yourself. You could be mad at him, but he was going through a tough time.
(Where was he during YOUR tough times, you mentally shot back.)
[🚀] oh dude… i’m sorry
[🚀] that really sucks. i’m so sorry.
[🚀] i hope you feel better soon.
You turned your phone onto silent before slamming it down onto your bed, too choked up with emotions to say anything else. You had managed to pull it together long enough to say something that was hopefully nice, and now everything was hitting you hard and suffocating you. You wanted to throw something—anything—or scream in frustration. This sucked. You knew it sucked. But, fuck, you just wanted to go and scream at him “you see how fucking bad that feels?! To have someone you care about not fucking care anymore?!” and you didn’t. You couldn’t. It made you realize that neither of you have even addressed the fact you haven’t spoken in several months now.
You stepped out of your room, leaving your phone behind to get a glass of water. Maybe if you kept pushing your feelings down, you could redirect your anger into something better. If push came to shove, then you’d just go out and walk until you felt better. Youngtaek had been standing in the kitchen, preparing snacks.
“Oh, you’re home?” He didn’t look up past the quick glance he’d given you before he went back to arranging snacks. “Yeonjun and Wooyoung are coming over for game night. You don’t have to join us, but Changbin and I know you’re kind of friends with them, so you’re welcome to join us if you—”
The moment you sniffled, he looked up and realized something was wrong. All of a sudden, you couldn’t hold it in anymore. Something about being around other people you trusted made it harder for you to keep your emotions fully under wraps. Vernon once told you that you wore your emotions on your sleeve, and maybe that was still true. Youngtaek pulled you into his arms when you broke, letting you sob into his shoulder as he held you.
“Is it Vernon again?”
Youngtaek knew. Everyone knew, didn’t they? But Youngtaek and Changbin knew the most, next to Minho.
“You can’t keep avoiding this,” he said gently, stroking your hair. “It’s not fair to you.”
“He broke up with her,” you mumbled, “because she kept canceling plans a-and ditching him and…”
Youngtaek drew back, staring at you. “He what.”
“And–And he didn’t feel like he was important to her at all anymore, a-and she would keep doing it last second or forgetting—”
You’d rarely seen Youngtaek look genuinely angry. He got frustrated, sure, because he was human. But this pissed? You weren’t sure you could even count how many times he was this outwardly angry. He masked it well before you now, though, taking a deep breath before he cut you off.
“One of my friends wants to go on a camping trip in a few weeks,” he told you. His hands rested on your shoulders, fingers slightly digging in. “He told me that some of his friends canceled for other plans, and that I could invite a few people if they wanted to come. You’re coming with me.”
You opened your mouth to speak.
“I mean it,” he said. “If you really don’t want to go, I won’t force you, but I think you need it. I’ll take your phone if you want, and it’ll just be us and a couple friends. We’ll cook together, and hike, and—and we’ll just have fun enjoying nature.”
You shut your mouth, slowly nodding. Maybe he was right and you needed to get away from all of this. It wasn’t going to be too much—camping here wasn’t all that out there as it was in other places—but you’d met some of Youngtaek’s friends before. Maybe you could talk them into a game of mafia. They’re all so genuinely horrible at it (they recorded it once for fun and Youngtaek sent you the YouTube video), it’d probably be fun to watch.
Seungkwan was the one who reached out to you while you were helping Youngtaek make snacks. You stepped into your room to answer your phone, and learned that it was him and Chan who were cheering Vernon up.
“I asked if he wanted to invite you over,” Seungkwan said quietly. “He said he didn’t want to burden you.”
You weren’t sure what to say. “Oh.”
“I don’t know what to do.” Seungkwan went quiet for a moment. “You two used to be so close, and now…”
At least someone else saw it.
“I know you’re hurting, too,” he said. “Vernon said you texted him. I almost told him off because the reason he broke up with her was the same thing he was doing toward you. DId he ever come back?”
He didn’t. Your silence said that for you.
“Ah, really…” Seungkwan sounded annoyed, too. Less pissed than Youngtaek, but Seungkwan hadn’t seen how many times you’d felt rejected by your own ‘best friend.’ “I should tell him off after he feels better—”
“Don’t.” You shut your eyes. “It’s fine, Seungkwan. Just go be there for him.”
“I will,” he said. “But you don’t have to lie to me. It’s not fine. I would have dropped a friend over this. If you need me, just text me, okay?”
It’s funny. You never really considered Seungkwan a close friend of yours. He was always someone you saw as a person you were on good terms with. The two of you didn’t hang out or do anything more than occasionally talk. There were no coffee dates, no study dates. Not like what you did with Minho and Changbin and Youngtaek—and, sometimes, Yeonjun. You paused, staring down at your friend for a moment as you returned to Youngtaek (and the newly arrived Yeonjun and Wooyoung).
“Hey… Can I invite a friend?” You looked up from your phone to the group. “It’s Minho.”
They all knew Minho. They told you to go ahead if he wasn’t busy. The more the merrier. Minho texted back a few minutes later, saying he’d stop by the store on his way over, so to let him know if you guys wanted any snacks. People dished out their requests, and you’d merely asked for a melona bar. A few minutes later, you realized what you were craving, and texted him asking if he would get you banana snacks instead. He said he’d already let the store, and you’d made peace with it. You’d get the snacks some other time.
Yet when he showed up, he passed you a small bag with your ice cream and a bag of banana-flavored snacks before he settled in beside you, hiding a smile.
Tumblr media
Vernon was checking his phone again, this gnawing feeling within him to do so. He followed… well, a lot of people on social media. Friends. Friends of friends. He wasn’t exactly sure why, if he was honest. He kind-of liked seeing what other people were up to, since sometimes it’d give him ideas for his own stuff with friends. And then he saw you, and that gnawing feeling suddenly went away.
He’d met Youngtaek before enough to recognize him immediately. You were sandwiched between him and Bae Seungmin (another guy in your year—Vernon had a few classes with him before) in the background of a photo shared by someone else. Did he even know a Jangjun? He wasn’t sure. He’d have to see if he recognized him later. Instead, he just zoomed in on the three of you among hte group.
(Turns out, though, he did recognize Jangjun. He’d met him at a couple parties. He was the loud dude who did a spot-on cicada impression at one of them… and Vernon was actually pretty damn sure that Jangjun was sober that time.)
You looked… happy. Your eyes were sparkling in every picture, so completely filled with joy at being with the people you were with. Some other guy was hugging you tight in another picture. You were laughing in another one, holding a sparkler alongside the people around you. When did you get so close with other people? It felt like just yesterday you were getting lunch with him before you worked on a biology lab report. A few nights later, you had confessed that you felt lonely outside of him and a few other people. But he could see the can of cheap beer in your hand, and he suddenly understood a little better: you were always a little touchier, a little more carefree whenever you drank. He clicked the tag on the photo with the guy hugging you tight, smiling like he was yours: Sungyoon. He didn’t know Sungyoon. Were you two…? Had you…?
He clicked on your page to find out. There wasn’t much on there (you weren’t active on social media, to be fair) but there was more than the last time he’d checked. The pictures of him were further down your page now. You had pictures of you and Youngtaek, taken in mirrors at a store. Of you and Changbin and a few more of his friends, throwing up peace signs while in a park, street food in hand. Of Minho, crouching inside of a cat cafe, feeding a cat a treat, saying you’d leave him to be with “his kind” since there were other pictures where he was surrounded by cats. Then another picture of you and Seungkwan, dated days after that diner date he had with Ji-woo. Seungkwan had an arm around your shoulder, pulling you in as the two of you beamed at the camera.
When was the last time he saw you smile like that?
Tumblr media
You didn’t go home as much as you wanted to. Between school and work and life, it became a little harder to make that trip to see your family often. You’d taken a week long vacation, partially to go camping, and the rest was dedicated to your family. It was nice to eat your dad’s cooking again, and to sleep in your childhood room again. You walked the neighborhood a bit, too, hands tucked into your pockets as you enjoyed being somewhere you wouldn't exactly call home anymore. But that was part of growing up. Home became different places throughout life. This was just one of them, even if you couldn’t actively call it yours anymore. It was nice, except for the part where your mom was giving you shit for being single and lonely and whatever.
“I always thought you and Vernon would have gotten together,” she said while making you breakfast. Unbeknownst to her, that was the one thing that could have made you cry.
You later went out for another walk around the neighborhood. Tomorrow morning, you’d go back to your apartment and get ready for work later that day. The world seemed to be against you, though, because this walk was what made you realize that you weren’t the only one who’d come home to visit family. Vernon was inside, hugging his sister visibly from the window. He must have just come in as a surprise. His house was only a few down from yours. You’d move on in a moment. Instead, you just watched a moment longer, wondering if maybe you should walk up and ring the doorbell. Say hi to the second family you had. You sighed after a moment, and made a move on to get home.
Inside, Sofia was whining at him for hugging her so tight… and because it’d been years since she’d seen you. Vernon could feel his own ache of heartbreak. Sofia hadn’t liked Ji-woo when he brought her around.
She pushed his arms off of her, flopping down onto the couch, “You should just tell her.”
Maybe one day he would, if he could stop being a coward.
Tumblr media
Senior year came and went faster than you knew.
You didn’t talk to Vernon anymore. He didn’t text you. Finally, you think that this was it. One friendship undone and slowly dying for far too fucking long. It almost made you want to hold a funeral, if you were honest. The most you’d heard from him was a birthday text and the invitation to do something that you responded to with an apology, because you’d already made plans with other people. Minho had stayed by your side throughout your birthday, happy to spend the day with you at an amusement park. Youngtaek and Changbin had come with you, too, bringing along Yeonjun and Wooyoung and a few others. You never really liked being the center of attention, but you didn’t mind so much during this last birthday. One of Minho’s friends, Felix, had danced with you happily, fingers intertwined. You’d joked to Minho that he should bring Felix around more often: he seemed like a sweet guy.
At some point, though, you sat down to address your feelings for real. You had been friends with Vernon for years, and all of it seemed to disappear all too quickly. You had cried over it plenty of times, but you were hit with this sense of relief at long last. Not because it was over, because that would always leave this subtle ache in your chest. Relief because you had finally learned how to let go and stop fighting a losing battle. You could finally rest now, and focus on the people that loved you out loud in your life. People like Youngtaek, who laughed beside you when you had movie nights in the apartment. Sometimes it ended with popcorn in your hair, but you’d never hold it against him for too long. Changbin, who was the best gym buddy you could ever ask for. Despite how intense his workouts could be, he was always mindful of you adhering to your own limits. Minho, who gave you quiet understanding whenever you needed it most. Your outings to cat cafes always made you smile, though, especially when he used it as a springboard to talk about how he’d one day move Soonie, Doongie, and Dori into his apartment. These were the people who had found you along the way, and walked alongside you when you needed them. Even Seungkwan, who wasn’t your close friend, had reached out to you every so often to check on you because he cared.
All good things came to an end. That was what you would tell yourself to feel better. Your friendships would come to an end one day, whether that be with an explosion or a quiet fizzle was something only time would tell. All you needed was to wait for the tide to come in and wash away the reminders of Vernon left along the sand.
Then you could run away.

[9:54 p.m] || Sungyoon
Request: can i request timestamp [9:54 p.m] with sungyoon + sweet kisses ?
I'm so sorry I'm getting to this so late I can't tell if I already did it and it's just buried and I never put it on my Masterlist or just completely forgot to but none the less here is this legit months or maybe a year late to which I’m so sorry but note I love you as one of my fave goldenness readers I hope you’re well <3
[9:54 p.m]
Sungyoon laid down with his arm propped up on the mattress that held his upper body up. You laid next to him, tucking strand of hair behind his ear taking the time to analyze his face for as long as you could. Your dear boyfriend got nervous under this form of attention so he decided to tease you in hopes your ears would turn as red as his.
“You’re in love with me aren’t you? You cant stop staring”
“Oh shut up” You said with a small laugh starting to feel warm by the playful aroma.
“Only if you kiss me”
His *not so* annoying teasing had you unable to handle his flirty comment but you happily obliged. Slowly pampering his face with kisses all over his face that you were not less then a minute ago analyzing the same face.

hi!! can you do stars + tag for blurbs?
"Oh! I forgot to mention it but Daeyeol hyung finally found his soulmate!" Youngtaek's excited voice cut through the silence of the night. "Seriously!? I'm so happy for him. About time since he's getting old", your joke made Youngtaek let out a soft chuckle and seconds later the night once again drowned in silence.
"What about you?" you ask the man who was looking into his mug of hot chocolate. "What about me?" He replies, eyes still trained on the floating piece of marshmallow. "Any luck on your soulmate?"
He shook his head and sighs. "Not yet...even Jaehyun beat me to it.." You could tell he was bothered by not finding his soulmate and you could understand where he was coming from because like him, you also had yet to meet yours.
"Don't think too much. Finding your other half is not a race or a competition to be one. They are bonded to you so you have no reason to worry because eventually you'll find them." You pat his hand as an act of comfort. Were you comforting him or yourself? You didn't know and neither wanted to. The topic was something that bothered you deep into the ungodly hours.
"What's your soulmate mark?" Youngtaek asked out of the blue, his eyes now boring deep into yours. You were taken aback by his sudden question. It was no secret to anyone that you didn't like discussing this certain topic or even telling it to others. You didn't know why but there was something always stopping you.
However, with the atmosphere that was settled long ago between you two, the vulnerability of two people who just wanted to find the people they are destined to be with, you couldn't help but speak of your secret into the night.
You pointed out to an obvious constellation blinking back at you. "You see that...Orion's belt?" You swore you could hear Youngtaek's breath hitch as soon as you pointed out the stars which contrasted the velvet sky from where they were hanging. You slowly rolled your right sleeve up, having second thoughts about revealing your mark.
There in the inner juncture of your elbow, there were the three dots in the same order as the ones in the sky.
"Are you kidding me?", he whispers. His eyes were wide with disbelief etched across his face. You had to look closely just to make sure he was even breathing. "All this time we were waiting for our soulmates when..." He lifts his sleeve to reveal the exact same mark in the exact same place. Both of your eyes meet, still in disbelief over what you two just discovered. "...when we were this close all this while", you finish his sentence in a whisper. Your finger, as if it had a mind of it's own traced the mark gingerly. "Who knew..."
"Exactly, who knew", he pulls the sleeve of his flannel down. "Now what?" You ask the question that's been clouding over yours and his mind. He hesitantly places his hand on yours and when you didn't draw back, he let it linger there.
"We'll figure it out together

[ WHISPERS ]
in which a temporary stay at a foreign base with ten other people becomes more and more unsettlingly terrifying as weeks go by — especially with the sudden, and sporadic, disappearances.
gn!reader & non-idols!golcha . (govern. agents? kind of?)
PART WARNINGS: disappearances, auditory hallucinations, mentions of panic, grief, etc., angst, open ending … (word count; 500+)
NOTE; any depictions of the real people in this are not a direct reflection of them in real life; please do not take it as such.
this idea came about when i listened to a podcast that talked about the strange happenings in alaska, so … yeah ! very sorry <3 hope you still enjoy this half of it tho !
Tumblr media
You knew that there wasn’t an actual person at T11A7 with you — not anymore.
You knew that all ten of your teammates had strangely disappeared one-by-one, starting with the lead mobile-navigator — and your leader’s right-hand man and best friend — Choi Sungyoon, only a month after arrival; a disappearance that quickly affected the stability of everyone’s stay within T11A7 a lot shakier, and creating a second mission within the first one.
With your oldest teammate and leader, Lee Daeyeol, obviously struggling with both the loss of his best friend and second-hand, but also trying to keep up with the daily logs of how the main mission was going while also still trying to quietly search for the missing, doe-eyed man —
— it was only a matter of time before he, too, disappeared without a trace only two weeks after. Which silently left your third-oldest teammate, Lee Jangjun, in charge of the mission logs and the team; something that slowly took pieces of him.
Though he — whether you think it as fortunate or not — was not the next to disappear shortly after Daeyeol. It was one of the youngest teammates and technicians, Kim Donghyun, who’d been so quiet, but still so curious. The morning you’d woken up to Jangjun’s pure panic and grief had been the hardest — Jangjun had always been so protective of the younger man; having watched Donghyun the longest out of all the younger men grow throughout the training program, he’d always been so much more fond of him. (All three of the oldest in your team had, actually.)
But, with all the grief and panic, came the realization that there was a subtle whisper in, and around, the base; that when it used to be — when it was supposed to be — quiet, it wasn’t. That you never really felt alone anymore. And you had said this much to Jangjun — only to be given a look of indifference and it's just the wind, Y/N.
Which, as it would anyone, only made you frustrated.
You understood that he was grieving — that all of them were; they’d all grown up with each other, they’d become more of a family than just co-workers, and missing people from your family hurt.
You also understood that you were an outsider to them, having only been added to the team last minute — that you weren’t even supposed to be there with them; you’d only been added when Hong Joochan, one of the main mobile-navigators, had injured his leg during the last practice test before they were sent off, and needed to be substituted for, at the least, three months — that being your temporary stay. They were never out-right hostile about you being there — you could just tell that they were uncomfortable having someone looking in on them during their most vulnerable times.
But there was just something so wrong with the area that they — that you — had been sent to. And the disappearances only further added to it; with three men — three healthy men (not counting the last two being stressed and grieving for the first) — just disappearing without a single clue as to where or how, only made it worse. Sure, the mission was to figure out the state of the area and if it was safe to live, but it was beginning to feel like the team was sent to be sacrificed.

you find unexplainable comfort in the words of your favorite poet, but he has a deeper connection to you than you think.
genre: fluff, a little angst
word count: 1.4k
author lin
Your favorite part of the day was curling up on the couch with a hot beverage, scrolling through your phone and having the television on low, offering great background noise so the apartment felt less empty. When the clock struck 7pm you knew you would be receiving that notification from the one person on Instagram that you cared enough to keep up with.
They were a poet who went by the name April and they were quite popular on the social media platform, despite never revealing any information about themself save for what deep feelings were incorporated into their poems. You found a great sense of comfort in their work and you were always anticipating to read their poems.
That day, April had revealed a poem titled 'Milky Way'. The post contained a plain white canvas with the words scribbled in black ink on the left side and a relevant drawing on the right - the standard format for all of their works. For this particular poem, the drawing was of a shooting star with a tiny person looking up towards it.
The poem described a relationship between two people that was so dazzlingly perfect that everyone around them was envious of how perfectly they were made for each other. Alas life moved to a point where the narrator could barely contact their lover and they slowly drifted out of each other's lives. The narrator still had lingering feelings for that person and could never truly move on. The final words of the poem read, Nothing without you, nothing without you…
April's poems always hit close to home and prompted you to think about your own life and experiences, but Milky Way in particular felt as though you yourself was the narrator in question. A few years ago you had also been in a relationship that was so full of bliss. The boy was named Youngtaek and you always joked about how he set a standard for any other guy you would ever meet, but it was true.
He was an aspiring songwriter and rapper and often wrote songs about you. He was someone that you could tell anything to and he would never judge. He always showered you with compliments that helped you find confidence in yourself. He encouraged you to try new things and a lot of milestones in your life involved him. Your first kiss, your first time and even your first experience getting chased out of a movie theater because he screamed too loud at the horror movie onscreen.
People who claimed the honeymoon phase didn't last forever clearly did not see the three years the two of you spent together. However, all good things must come to an end. Youngtaek left for Japan to further his studies while you stayed behind. You stayed in good contact for a long time, until you both started to live your own lives with different friends, different timezones, different lifestyles. It was a mutual decision to just end the relationship and move on, but your feelings for him could never disappear that easily.
Since the poem had tapped into an integral part of your mind, you decided to leave a comment. You never did leave comments on April's work - it was quite pointless considering they were so popular and your comment would just disappear into the swarm of others - but you were running on sentimentality at that point.
@______: Thank you for this, I wonder if the lover will ever know the impact they had on the narrator…
You left your phone aside and turned the television volume up to watch whatever game show was going on. Despite your eyes being on the screen, your thoughts were still filled with Youngtaek and the poem. The only thing that was able to snap you out of your own world was a chime from your phone. You grabbed your phone and opened up the notification.
@aprilpoetry: @______ I think they do now…
Your eyes widened at the comment before contorting into a confused frown. First of all, April didn't reply to their fans often so the interaction did catch you by surprise. Second of all, what did they mean by that? The message was so short and vague, but you didn't want to read too much into it. April was notorious for trolling and pranking their followers so you shrugged it off.
Your notifications were flooded with people liking and leaving congratulatory words on your comment. It was so overwhelming that you almost missed a direct message notification you had received. You opened the message up and you couldn't hold back the gasp that escaped your lips upon seeing it was from April.
@aprilpoetry: As you know, I will be releasing my first book this Friday. We'll be having a small party to celebrate and I'm looking to invite some interesting fans to join us. Would you be interested?
@______: Me?
@aprilpoetry: Of course. Your comment piqued my interest.
@______: My comment?
April was typing for a long time and you didn't know why you were becoming nervous. You couldn't even believe this conversation was happening. Your phone pinged and you looked down to see details as to when and where the party was being held.
@aprilpoetry: I hope to see you there
+++++
After days of deliberation, you finally settled on just going to the party. The interaction with April was quite strange and your curiosity really got the better of you. You arrived at the venue - a sleek dining hall decorated in black and white and adorned in pictures of the art that usually featured alongside April's poems.
You floated around the room, taking the drink that a server offered you and inspecting the snack table for anything you might like. Everyone else was already engrossed in their own conversations, presumably about April's poetry. You felt somebody stand next to you, but your eyes stayed fixated on the pink drink in your hands.
"The mini pizzas are really good." The person next to you spoke and you almost shuddered at the familiarity of their voice.
You looked up to see Youngtaek smiling down at you. He was wearing black turtleneck with a black blazer thrown over his shoulders. He looked older and much more mature than from when you last saw him. His hair was dyed bright red and his ears were adorned with pretty piercings. He still had the same sparkly eyes that you had adored so much.
"What are you doing here?" You asked in a small voice and he chuckled lightly.
"It's been a while hasn't it?" Youngtaek ran his fingers through his hair with a sheepish grin on his face, "well actually, we've been closer than we think."
"What do yo-"
"I'm April, ______," he cut you off and your eyes widened comically, making him laugh, "when I saw you comment on my post I couldn't believe it was really you.
"I actually refused to believe it was, so I invited you here to find out," he let out a nervous sigh, "I'm… I'm really glad you're here and you read that poem."
"I've read all of your poems," you admitted and now it was his turn to look surprised, "I've always followed your account and I… really love your work… Milky Way just hit very close to home."
"I missed you, every day," Youngtaek admitted, stepping closer to you, "every time I'd think I moved on from us but then you'd cloud my thoughts all the time, just like what I said in Milky Way."
"I missed you too," you smiled at him when you saw his eyes light up, "I guess it's fate that we found each other again."
Youngtaek grinned at your words before leaning closer and placing his lips on yours. It felt so familiar, the feeling of kissing him while soft music sounded from the speakers, yet butterflies still fluttered in your tummy. His hands came up to cup your face as you gently held onto his wrists. He pulled away just a few centimeters away to admire your flustered face as his cherry lips curled into a smile.
"So are we doing this again?" You laughed lightly.
"Only if you want to ______." Youngtaek grinned, softly running his hands down your arms.
"Of course April Poetry."

golden child masterlist
Tumblr media
- so this is gonna be a little different than usual,, just for my masterlists,, if the group has higher than 8 or so fics, then i’ll make a seperate masterlist for them,, in golcha’s case there were 9 so heh - i’m probably going to leave this gif cuz it’s cute so it won’t change until my bias miraculously changes - in order of age :)
f - fluff                 ✨- requested a - angst             🧩 - my favorites             e- emotional
a/n:: all of this is my own work, that i wrote myself. if there’s any copies, reuploads, or that are copied on any other accounts other than this one, it is not mine.
——————————————————————————
so that’s how you felt - lee daeyeol (f) ✨
being an idol at woollim has it’s ups and downs, but every single time you go to the conveinece store, it just so happens that daeyeol is only there when you are.
run to me - choi sungyoon (f) ✨
you and the twins got to be in the audience of golcha’s isac win for 60m and 400m relay. the twins always got babysat by the golden child boys so when they won, the twins congratulated the boys but not sungyoon.
don’t change the channel - lee jangjun (a,f)
every ONE (lucid dream) performance, jangjun always has that one part that his looks are just breathtaking, and he changes the video while you admire that one part over and over.
dance with me - bong jaehyun (f)
dancing with jaehyun isn’t hard, well only when he starts nagging you about how you need to practice harder so that you guys can do a duo on stage on day together. there’s only one thing that makes you want to work harder.
do it, i dare you - kim jibeom (e)
being the fiancé of one of the biggest mafia bosses in korea isn’t easy, it’s actually quite difficult especially if his one mission is the worst one he could ever be assigned.
the real best friend - hong joochan (e)

5228/2800 word february
note: I am using "princeps" as a gender neutral term for royalty at the same rank of prince/princess!
[meet the magic] Although Youngtaek refuses to admit it out loud, he knows that he can be a bit — okay, maybe more than a bit clumsy at times. It’s really no shock to him that he bumps his head hard on the underside of the shop’s front counter when the overhead door bell rings. Wincing, Youngtaek clutches the back of his head as he stands up behind the counter. He blinks a few times to get his vision back to a hundred percent, so he only sort of sees the person who entered the shop’s back as they take the ‘open’ sign and flip it so anyone who’s outside will think the shop is closed.
Okay. Weird. Maybe Youngtaek hit his head harder than he thought.
Then you turn around, and Youngtaek thinks he might actually have knocked himself out on the counter and is currently dreaming.
Because even though he’s never talked to you before, he’s seen your face about a million times.
“Princeps—?”
Before he can even utter the first letter of your name, you’re at the other side of the counter with one finger held up to your mouth and your other hand over Youngtaek’s sputtering lips. “Shh! Chill out. Just Chill. Out. Yeah?”
Eyes wide, Youngtaek just nods frantically. Sure, it’s completely baffling to see the Crown Princeps walk into his shop — and deigning touch him (his lips are literally touching your hand!) — but if you want him to shut up, he’s gonna shut the hell up.
“We good?” you ask, brow raised as the finger over your own lips lowers. Youngtaek nods again, slowly, and you let out a resigned sigh, your shoulders losing their tension. Both your arms fall to relax on the countertop. “Great. Good. I’m looking for Tag.”
“Um.” Youngtaek points a hesitant finger at himself. “I’m Tag.”
Tilting your head, you look him up and down with a scrutinizing gaze, a slight frown tugging at the corners of your lips. “The wizard?”
He gulps. Is he Tag? Why is he questioning his own identity all of a sudden? You’re even better looking in front of him than you are on TV. That’s not important! But the green hoodie and jeans you’re wearing now work just as well on you as the royal garb you wear for televised events… Maybe even better.
Wait, did you ask him something?
“Uh…” Youngtaek blinks, looking down at himself. He’s wearing his usual aesthetic; black clothes, some silver accents. Thank nova he at least tried to look presentable this morning. It’s not every day royalty straight up walks into a commoner’s shop. It’s usually never, actually. He looks back up at you. “...Do I not look like a wizard?”
“Dunno.” You shrug, not at all acting like the Princeps Youngtaek is used to seeing online. He doesn’t think he’s ever heard someone from the palace say, ‘dunno’. “I was expecting someone older. Maybe with a long beard. Or a wand.”
“I don’t use a wand.” Holy shit. Is he talking casually with the Princeps right now?
“Do you use something?”
Youngtaek pulls out his old Blackberry, sliding the screen up to reveal the little keypad underneath.
“Whoa.” You lean over the counter to get a closer look at his phone. “That’s your wand?”
You’re even cuter up close.
That’s not important!
“Tech— technically no because it’s not a wand.” Good one, captain obvious. He clears his throat. “But I do, um, channel my magic through it.”
You look up at him in awe. “Why such an old model?”
“Well… if a spell goes wrong, I’d rather blow this up than an expensive smartphone.”
Nodding, you seem to get lost in your own thoughts for a few seconds. You return your eyes to the Blackberry in Youngtaek’s hand, and he gnaws on his bottom lip to calm his nerves. Why does he suddenly feel like he’s in trouble?
“It’s nice to meet you, Tag the Wizard.” You say after a second, something regal in the way you stand up straight and hold out your hand. “I’m… well, you know.”
You smile is twice as charming as he’s heard it is.
“And I need your help.”
Awkwardly, Youngtaek reaches out his hand to shake yours, very aware of how warm his hand is right now. He prays to nova that you don’t notice.
“Help with what?”
Your smile widens. “I’m gonna overthrow my father.”

9. “i’m allergic to roses.”
jaehyun doesn’t know why his boss decided to give him the valentine’s day shift. it’s annoying and stupid and dumb, especially when he just wants to spend the entire day with you, but you have class and he has work. so jaehyun resigns himself to being forced to work in the pits of hell on the supposed day of love (it’s a drugstore on valentine’s day. he’s pretty sure he won’t even be able to count the number of boyfriends and girlfriends who’ve forgotten to buy their partner a gift and have come to this shitty CVS for a last minute card or box of chocolates).
slumped over on the counter after opening, waiting for the first wave of poor significant others to come washing in, jaehyun doesn’t even bother to move when the automatic doors slide open and a few pairs of footsteps sound on the floor. only when someone steps in front of him does he actually look up, immediately plastering on his customer service smile (that you’ve always found simultaneously hilarious and scary - “you look so dead inside, i don’t know what to say!” “i’m not dead inside!” “jaehyun, you’re in university. we’re all dead inside”), but it immediately drops when you step up to the counter and pass over a bouquet of tulips (not roses this time, thank god - jaehyun doesn’t need a repeat of the time you brought them and he had to break it to you between sneezes that “i’m allergic to roses.”), laughing at the expression of shock on his face.
“wanted to bring you something nice in the morning since we won’t see each other until later,” you explain, pushing the bouquet into his hands. “i’ll meet you in front of your dorm, right? don’t be late.”
holding the flowers, jaehyun doesn’t know what to do but nod and smile, smile so brightly it feels like the sun has come down to rest in his heart because by god, you’re the sweetest thing in this entire world and he loves you so, so much. “okay,” he breathes, unable to stop his eyes from crinkling as he smiles. “i’ll see you then.”
you lean over the counter and press a brief kiss on his lips. the bouquet nearly falls to the ground as he scrambles to lean in, to extend this bit of affection as long as he can, but then someone coughs and you two break away, jaehyun red-faced and blushing, you laughing as both of you turn to the customer holding two bags of lollipops with a smirk and a raised eyebrow on their face. jaehyun only blushes harder as you squeeze his hand one last time, supremely unconcerned, and murmur “see you later” before walking back out the door.

14. “you’re seriously asking me out on valentine’s day?”
exactly one week ago, jangjun’s professor gave the entire lecture hall a stern talking-to regarding valentine’s day activities in class. no kissing, no inappropriate PDA, and “no giving out candy or confessions unless you’ve brought enough for the entire hall.” and given the fact that this is a lecture hall of just under a hundred students, no one is eager to break that rule.
but on valentine’s day, you come running in just two minutes before class starts, a large shopping bag banging against your legs as you sprint to your seat next to jangjun. he frowns at the bag, looking up at you in confusion, but you only give him a shit-eating grin as the professor walks to the podium. just as he’s about to start the slides, you raise your hand. “professor, i have candy to pass out.”
a whisper runs through the hall as jangjun starts to laugh. you really would. you actually would. y/n, you perfect bastard. professor just raises an eyebrow that jangjun can see all the way from his seat halfway across the hall and replies “do you have enough for the entire class?”
“as a matter of fact, i do!” reaching into the bag, you pull out two packages of lollipops and brandish them in the air. “all in the spirit of valentine’s day, professor!”
the hall devolves into chaos and laughter and shouts as you run down the rows, throwing candy at every student. jangjun’s laughing with everyone else - even the professor can’t help a smile as you hand him a lollipop too - but then he realizes you’ve completely bypassed his row. no matter, though, right? you’ll probably just come back and give him one when you come back to your seat, or he’ll steal a lollipop away from you. that’s how best friends work, obviously.
but then you’re running down the stairs, finished passing out candy for the rest of the hall. jangjun expects you to slide into your seat but you don’t, instead stopping at the end of the row and tossing him his favorite flavor of lollipop. he grins, about to say something, but your smile has turned slightly nervous and he’s confused - you’re never nervous, never, you didn’t even look like this before you had your first job interview - but then your gaze takes on a steely  determination that’s more characteristic of his favorite friend ever and you say, “wanna go on a date with me?”
screams erupt from the seats around him, but jangjun can only stare as he tries to comprehend what you said. his mouth moves to form words and they are not the words he wants but he never thinks before he speaks and certainly not now when his brain is literally fraying at the edges -
“you’re seriously asking me out on valentine’s day?”
your gaze shutters, your eyes turning dim. the smile on your face is still there but it’s a little forced and jangjun starts panicking because what the fuck, that’s not what he meant, and - “oh my god, y/n, i’m an idiot, i didn’t mean to say that, yes i want to go out with you, holy fuck i’ve wanted to literally since we met -”
“jangjun? shut up.”
he shuts up, terrified he’s messed up forever. but you’re smiling. you’re smiling so wide it looks like the stars themselves have come down to grace your eyes as you sit down next to him and tangle your fingers with his.
there are more screams and someone’s camera flashes but jangjun doesn’t care. he doesn’t fucking care, not when you’ve just asked him out when he’s been pining for you for probably years at this point and jangjun knows he’s grinning like an idiot when he squeezes your hand once, softly, and you squeeze back, winking as you pop a last lollipop into your mouth.
Tumblr media
13. “you’re so cheesy. i love it.” (slightly amended from “this is so cheesy. i love it.”)
daeyeol may be dyslexic, but he certainly isn’t blind. as the ta for this lecture section, he’s had a front row seat to the obvious pining tension between jangjun and his best friend since they stepped into class on the first day. when they hand daeyeol a lollipop, he can see jangjun smiling like an absolute idiot even so far away, and when oblivious idiot #1 finally pulls themselves together and asks jangjun on a date, the professor himself can’t help but grin even as he starts clapping his hands to bring the class to order.
as the lecture goes on, daeyeol lets his thoughts wander. he’s been over this particular set of slides so long he could probably talk about them in his sleep (and according to sungyoon, he actually has, though he has no video proof so daeyeol will just put that down to his roommate exaggerating), so he doesn’t feel too bad about not paying attention as the professor keeps talking. he has better things to think about - namely his plans for later today.
yeah, he has a date. he has a date with, in his humble opinion, the most wonderful and beautiful person in the world. he can’t help but smile when the image of your eyes crinkled in a laugh runs through his mind, the sound of your giggles and snorts making his heart flutter with excitement because holy fuck, he may not want to be in class, but at least he’s going to get to see you for hours later today.
if he wasn't the ta, he’d be the first one out of class. instead, though, he stays a couple minutes to talk to the professor (he smirks a little bit when jangjun and his best friend-turned-significant other walk out the door, still holding hands) before he finally deems it polite to say goodbye and rush out of the lecture hall to his dorm so he can get changed.
he’s breathless when he walks out of the flower shop to meet you just an hour later, clutching a bouquet of flowers in his hands. despite the fact that you two have been dating for months already, he still turns shy when you accept the flowers, eyes sparkling in delight. your gaze only turns sweeter, lovelier when you look up from the bouquet to give him a hug, wrapping your arms around him tightly as your body presses against his.
“i missed you,” he murmurs into your ear, holding you as close as he can.
you laugh. “we saw each other yesterday, daeyeol.”
his name still sounds like honey from your lips. “yeah, but that was still too long.”
again you laugh, pulling away. before he can complain, your hand slips into his, automatically tangling your fingers together. “you’re so cheesy,” you announce as though you haven’t said the same thing a million times over the course of the last few months. “i love it. anyway, should we go?”
daeyeol smiles, squeezing your hand. “of course. come on.”
Tumblr media
4. “valentine’s day is just a ploy to make people buy heart-shaped stuff.” / “what’s that in your hands?” / “none of your business.”
jibeom isn’t anti-valentine’s day, not exactly. it’s just that he doesn’t entirely care for the way capitalism has decided to commercialize love through chocolates and teddy bears when a handwritten card would mean more to him than the most expensive candies in the world.
which is why he teases daeyeol when the older boy comes into the flower shop where he works part time, even as he wraps up the bouquet of pink and red roses. “still a slave to capitalism, i see.”
daeyeol just snorts. “you think i didn’t see the flower crown you were making when i walked in?”
“yeah, well, i made it. i didn’t buy it.” jibeom ties the last ribbon in a large bow. “i’m not going to be a slave to the machinery of this shitty economic system. valentine’s day is just a ploy to make people buy heart-shaped stuff.”
“what’s that in your hands?”
jibeom shoves a heart-shaped box of chocolate under the counter. “none of your business.”
"yeah, right.” daeyeol snorts, taking the bouquet of flowers. “well, enjoy your date later. hope y/n likes the chocolates.”
jibeom sniffs. “you enjoy yours.”
with that, daeyeol walks out to meet his partner. jibeom averts his eyes (it’s so weird seeing someone he thinks of as his older brother kissing or hugging something else, even if it’s sweet), but then the door opens again and a wide smile spreads across jibeom’s face when you walk into the shop.
“your shift is over,” you announce, hopping on a nearby stool so you can lean your elbows on the counter. “time to go!”
“y/n, for the last time, i can’t just end my shift when i want to,” jibeom says. he’s still smiling, though - he knows you don’t mean it, knows that you’ll just hang around and bother him until his shift is actually over and the two of you can go to whatever reservation you made this year.
you groan. “come on, that’s no fun.”
jibeom snorts. “here, maybe this will keep you busy.” he hands you the chocolate he bought early that morning from a dead-eyed jaehyun (thank god for the flowers his partner brought him at the start of his shift or he probably would’ve keeled over at that point). “happy valentine’s day.”
with a delighted screech, you tear into the box. jibeom watches in amusement. “i thought you didn’t like participating in the valentine’s day capitalist commercialization of love?” you ask, mouth full.
“i don’t.” jibeom shrugs. “but if it’s for you...”
he doesn’t get to finish before you yank him down by the neck of his shirt to press a full kiss to his lips. “jibeom, i love you more than you can imagine,” you declare when you finally pull away.
you look beautiful, lips slightly swollen, eyes sparkling. jibeom lifts the finished flower crown from behind the counter and puts it on your head. “there. perfect.”
“hm?” you look up, smiling when you realize what he’s given you.
“you looked beautiful before,” jibeom explains. “but now you look even more perfect.”
“are you saying that because of your flower crown, i look nicer?” you frown in mock disapproval. “jibeom, that’s awfully egocentric.”
“well, am i wrong?”
your frown splits into a wide grin as you shake your head. “no, not at all.” you squeeze his hand. “anything from you makes me feel beautiful, no matter what it is.”
Tumblr media
21. “for me?”
“don’t mind them, jibeom and his partner won’t suck face too much.” the worker rolls his eyes as he walks forward, leading joochan further into the store. “you said roses, right? red roses?”
“yeah.” joochan takes a deep breath, trying to stop himself from screaming internally. “red roses.”
but even as the worker - seungmin, his name tag says - leads him to a selection of deep red flowers, joochan’s starting to second guess himself. what if flowers come off too strong, roses no less? it’s only the first date - and by god, he’s lucky you even accepted, you’re the wittiest and most amazing person he’s ever come across, he never imagined you would actually say yes - and joochan has no idea what to do, how to act, least of all with flowers.
dimly, joochan becomes aware of seungmin deftly tying the roses together before handing him the bouquet. “come up to the front, you’ll pay there.” he snorts. “hopefully jibeom and his partner aren’t being idiots.”
“i heard that!” comes an indignant shout from the front. despite his nerves, even joochan cracks a smile when seungmin forcefully elbows jibeom out from behind the counter, forcing his partner to stop him from falling over. “yeah you heard that, you think i would’ve said it if i didn’t want you to hear?” seungmin snaps, fingers flying on the register. “that’ll be -”
“joochan?!”
what.
what the fuck.
joochan spins on his heel to see you standing not three feet away from him, a bouquet of flowers clasped in your own hands as someone else rings up your purchase. for a moment, you two only stare at each other.
god, joochan wants to melt into the floor.
“i -” you swallow. “sorry. hi, joochan.”
“hi,” he squeaks, fingers clutching roses in a vice grip. “uh... didn’t expect to see you here?”
“i wanted to get flowers for you,” you mumble, staring resolutely at the ground.
joochan’s brain makes the windows shutting down noise. “for - for me?”
“yeah.” you half-smile, laughing a little as you point at your bouquet. joochan wants to immortalize the sound of your laugh forever in his ears. “wait - here.”
suddenly, joochan has two bunches of roses in his hands and he doesn’t know what to do with either of them. your fingers brush his skin as you hand over the flowers. joochan can feel himself getting redder by the second as he finally figures out that he should also hand over his bouquet to you.
seungmin’s voice stops him. “you still need to pay,” he says, eyes screwed almost shut with suppressed laughter.
“oh - right. sorry.” joochan hands his card over, face flaming. seungmin swipes it, gives it back, and joochan finally passes his roses to you.
for another two seconds, you two just stare, but then you smile (and joochan subsequently feels like his brain is leaking out of his ears, you’re too amazing to look at). “shall we?”
you’ve extended a hand. joochan looks at it dumbly, uncomprehending, but then he realizes you’re asking to hold his hand. gingerly he nods, pressing his palm into yours as an involuntary smile splits his face. “okay,” he breathes. “let’s go.”
Tumblr media
25. “i love you.”
“that was... something.” you turn to seungmin, second-hand embarrassment written all over your face. understandable. even if seungmin found it funny, the awkward romantic tension in the air before joochan and his partner left was enough to make his insides curdle. of course, being a perfect worker, he didn’t show it, but...
“were we ever like that?” seungmin wonders aloud, tightening his apron.
jibeom snorts from where he’s taking off his own apron, finished with his shift. lucky bastard. “no, but you’re worse.” he pulls off the green smock, hanging it on a nail in the back. “you’ve been in love since you were like, five. disgustingly mushy.”
“you two suck face in the back whenever you have a spare moment,” you snap, throwing a small handful of discarded leaves at them.
jibeom’s partner shrugs. “better than being overly romantic and making everyone want to puke on how adorable you two are.” they wave as jibeom drags them out of the shop and down the street.
you sigh. “sucks that we got the full shift,” you mumble, slumping over the counter. “wish we were doing something better.”
“hey, we get to avoid the crowds tomorrow when we go for our late valentine’s day dinner.” seungmin sits next to you, pulling a bit of leaf out of your hair. “isn’t that better?”
“yeah.” you sit up, leaning against your elbow to smile at him. even after so many years together, the sparkle in your eyes still makes seungmin’s heart flutter. “kinda works out. i just don’t want to work.”
“lazy,” seungmin teases, kissing you briefly.
despite the insult, you smile against his lips before pulling away. “asshole.”
“hey,” he whines. “an asshole wouldn’t do this, would they?” he picks up a discarded rose - still perfect, really, the stem just got snapped a little too short for a bouquet - and tucks it behind your ear. “would they?”
you laugh. “no, of course not.” you rise from your seat and glance from side to side. when nobody enters the shop, you wrap your arms around his neck. seungmin’s hands automatically loop your waist as you kiss him long, full, deep.
“i love you,” you murmur against his lips. “i love you every day, regardless of whether or not it’s valentine’s day.”
“same here.” seungmin raises a hand, cups your cheek. you lean into his touch. “i love you too, y/n.”
Tumblr media
3. “what, no roses?”
when sungyoon walks into the flower shop, a tray of coffee in hand, to see two of his friends locking lips just behind the counter, he only sighs. at least they aren’t trying to eat each other’s faces like some other couples he saw in the cafe today. and not much could be worse than that one time daeyeol forgot to hang a sock on the door before sungyoon got back home.
seungmin and his partner of well over five years (they’re cute. disgustingly cute and so in love it makes sungyoon want to retch sometimes) break apart, thankfully, when he puts two cups of coffee on the counter. “enjoy,” he deadpans to a nonplussed seungmin and his equally unbothered partner.
"oh, thanks.” seungmin takes one, draining half of it in one go. “oh my god, this is so good.”
“of course, it is, sungyoon made it.”
sungyoon nearly jumps. how is it that you always manage to sneak up on him? he can’t figure it out. but even though his heart is pounding, he turns around with a smile on his face to catch you when launch yourself into his arms for a hug. “hey, sungyoon,” you murmur into his skin.
“hey, yourself.” he smiles, pulling away to take you in. “you look beautiful.” as always.
“you don’t look too bad yourself,” you tease, pulling a bouquet of flowers from behind your back, smiling widely. “for you.”
sungyoon smiles, taking the delicate stems between his hands. “what, no roses?”
“nope,” you reply, popping the p. “our shop ran out. and i’m not about to buy from my competitors.”
a scoff sounds as sungyoon laughs. you narrow your eyes at seungmin and his partner, who are both replying to your gaze with mock glares of their own. it actually used to be a real point of contention, the fact that sungyoon had started dating a worker at the rival florist a few streets away, but now it’s all fun and games.
tulips and carnations, pink and red, fragrant and delicate. sungyoon breathes in their scent before turning back to the counter to hand you one of the last two cups of coffee in the tray. “your favorite.”
“thanks.” you take a long sip before leaning in to kiss him with coffee-tasting lips. “ready to go?”
“absolutely.” he takes your hand, squeezing your palm gently. “come on. we’ve got a long evening planned, don’t we?”
Tumblr media
11. “it’s so cold! why can’t valentine’s day be in summer?!”
bomin collapses on the floor as the music turns off for the last time that evening. “oh my god,” he gasps, staring at the ceiling. “y/n, i literally hate you.”
“not my fault you aren’t flexible enough,” you snip, effortlessly folding your legs as you sit down next to his prone figure. “now get up. i got you coffee from that place you like.”
in a flash, he’s sitting, making grabby hands for the cup between your fingers. “did sungyoon make it?”
“yes.” you roll your eyes but hand him the coffee anyway, smiling. “sometimes i think you love him more than me, you know?”
“impossible.” bomin pouts at you over the cup. “i love you more than anything.”
“i know, i’m just teasing.” you stand, reach out a hand, and pull him up. “gross, you’re all sweaty.”
“i just danced for an entire hour and on our anniversary no less, valentine’s day, the most romantic day of the year -”
“yeah, yeah.” you nudge him with your shoulder as you two leave the studio. “you’re the one who told me to make sure you do your stretching exercises every day, right? valentine’s day is no exception. we did so much earlier in the day, too - you can’t say we didn’t have fun.” a smirk rises on your lips and you nudge him again. “besides, whose fault is it that our anniversary is on the cheesiest day of the year?”
bomin groans as the two of you walk out into cold air. “listen, daeyeol and everyone else was giving me extremely bad advice and i couldn’t wait and i just wanted it to be romantic, okay -”
“i know.” you pause in your step, reach up, and press a soft kiss on his lips. “i know, bomin. you’ve told me this before.”
“then don’t tease me,” he grumbles, dodging donghyun and youngtaek as they run, screaming about cold, into the dance studios where it’s warmer. “it’s so cold,” he continues grumbling, burrowing his head into his coat. “why can’t valentine’s day be in summer?”
a laugh sparkles from your lips, and against his grumpy will, bomin finds the corners of his mouth lifting at the sound. “can’t exactly control when a saint dies,” you reply, linking your arm with his. “and isn’t it kind of sweet? holding hands to keep each other warm?”
bomin sighs, allowing the smile to full spread across his face. “i guess,” he concedes, unlinking your arms so he can hold your hand in his. “still doesn’t mean i don’t want to get back to the dorms and cuddle you right now.”
“well, the faster you go, the faster we get back!” you fling his hand away, sprinting forward onto the path. “last one back is the bigger idiot!”
“hey!” bomin complains, trying to follow behind on legs still shaky from exercise. “hey, slow down!”
“hell no!” you yell. “running fast will get you warm!”
(bomin does catch up to you in the end, grabbing your hand just outside the dorm and spinning you around to press a laughing kiss against your lips. he’s warm, now, warm from the exercise, but he feels far warmer from the feeling of your arms wrapped around him.)
Tumblr media
5. “30 roses, one for every cat you’re gonna have when you’re old and alone.”
at first, donghyun doesn’t notice when you appear in the dance studio. you come in quietly, the noise of the door opening and closing overpowered by the music blasting from the speaker in the corner. he’s too focused on youngtaek and his partner, making sure every one of their movements is perfectly in sync.
when the music fades, clapping sounds and donghyun turns to see you standing just inside the studio, smiling behind a large bouquet of roses. he can’t help the grin that spreads across his face as he bounds up to you and crushes you in a sweaty hug. “hi.”
“hello to you too, sweaty.” you push him away playfully. “don’t crush the roses!”
donghyun pouts but obediently wipes his face off on a towel youngtaek hands him. “you value the roses over me,” he whines.
“not so.” you laugh. “i value the roses because they’re for you, and when i actually hand them over, i want them to still look nice.”
donghyun melts into the wooden studio floor. he really does. youngtaek takes advantage of his whipped™ moment and shoves him out the door with his belongings, leaving you to follow behind as fast as possible before you’re trapped in the studio.
once outside, you take donghyun’s (now dry) hand. “flowers for donghyun,” you announce, pressing the bouquet into his other palm. “thirty roses, one for every cat you’re gonna have when you’re old and alone.”
“old and alone?” donghyun stops in his tracks. “what about you?”
“oh shit.” you laugh. “i didn’t think about that. i’ll be there with you, of course. just us and our thirty cats. unless you get tired of me before then.”
you say it with a joking tone, but donghyun still pouts at your words. “i’m not going to get tired of you,” he says, squeezing your hand tighter. “never, y/n.”
a small, shy smile spreads across your lips and donghyun revels in the feeling of making you feel flustered on this lovely day. “all right, donghyun.” the smile grows wider. “i could never get tired of you either.”
he kisses your cheek, kisses the corner of your lips. you start whining for him to give you a real kiss and he laughs, dancing out of the way. “only if you promise not to say stuff like that anymore,” he bargains, dodging your lips. “promise!”
“i promise!” you trap him between your arms, leaning in close as your eyes sparkle. “i promise, donghyun.”
“okay,” he breathes, pulling you closer. “okay.”
against your lips, he smiles.
Tumblr media
2. “happy valentine’s day.”
music blasts in the background as you and youngtaek begin cleaning up your studio. even though you both are exhausted from hours of dancing, the music seems to work its way into your veins again as you pick up the last few things from the floor. twirling once or twice in time to the beat, you put them back in your bag before spinning, arms held out wide.
youngtaek catches you, pulling your hand as it flies out and dipping you down. his eyes crinkle as he smiles, face just inches away from yours. he braves the small chasm to kiss you briefly before holding you closer, losing himself in the feeling of his arms wrapped around you.
for a few blissful moments, you only stare, smiling into each other’s eyes. the pounding music fades, soon replaced with a slow, soft song.
youngtaek breaks your silence. “hey, dance with me?”
you laugh. “we’ve been dancing for hours, youngtaek. you’re not tired already?”
he kisses you again. “never tired if i’m with you.”
with that, you twirl him around, giggling as he spins dramatically before wrapping his arms around your waist once more. you put your hands on his shoulders and sway slowly, gently, peacefully, as the music rolls around you in waves.
youngtaek likes it like this, likes it peaceful and quiet and calm. for others, valentine’s day might be about big displays of love, over the top shows of romance, but even though those are nice every once in a while, it’s possible to show so much love in a soft look, a gentle touch, in the feeling of his head resting against your shoulder as you sway gently to the music.
he doesn’t need roses, doesn’t need chocolates or jewelry to know that you love him and he loves you. he’ll treasure the handmade card you gave him this morning, just as you’ll listen to the song he composed you for weeks, months, and hopefully years. head tucked into your neck, he presses a soft kiss to the skin, smiling at the way you shiver slightly against him.
“tired?” you murmur, running a hand through his hair.
youngtaek’s eyes close in bliss. “not yet.” it’s not quite a lie, he still has strength in his legs, but he wants to stay in your embrace just a little longer. just a little.
“if you say so.” your fingers continue carding through his hair. “we can go whenever you want.”
“okay.” youngtaek’s smile widens. “i love you, y/n.”
“i love you too, youngtaek.” you pull away slightly, kiss his forehead. “happy valentine’s day.”

Can you do 13 of fluff prompt with golcha bomin?
DO YOU BELIEVE IN MAGIC? || choi bomin
summary: Choi Bomin always asks if you believe in magic. He bothers you every day about it. Honestly, the gap between his good looks and his eccentricity is astounding. During a school trip, you two are paired to take a test of courage in the woods. You’re determined to push through till the end to get a prize but Bomin is a scaredy-cat and the seniors who are scaring you are less-than-forgiving. There is... also something weird about him?
Tumblr media
“I won’t let anyone hurt you, you’re safe with me.”
PAIRING: bomin x reader (f)
WORDCOUNT: 2,346 words
TAGS: bomin x reader | goldenchild the movie! bomin | fluff | beginnings of romance | sassy and competitive reader | socially awkward! bomin | high school au | horror/thriller (?) | mentions of other members | cute scaredy-cat baby! bomin | crying bomin which i love the most ;;
Tumblr media
Choi Bomin was a stalker. He’d follow you around like a lost puppy and act like he wasn’t. He’d bump into you in the hallways and flash a smile like he didn’t plan it. He’d show up to the restaurants you visit after school and he’d blame it on having ‘similar tastes’. No, he didn’t have any malicious intent. No, he wasn’t madly in love with you. No, you weren’t popular enough for a guy like him to like you.
He incessantly wanted you to admit you believed in magic.
Did you? Duh. Yes.
But you didn’t want to tell Bomin that. Not with the way he cheekily brought it up in every conversation. Or with how he ‘dropped’ his pencil and asked you to pick it up and instead of saying ‘thank you’ he said—
“So, you do believe in magic, right?”
Bomin’s eyes twinkled, a grin etched onto his boyish face. It took you a while to muster enough courage to turn down such a look, but your rejection wasn’t far from usual.
“Why do you keep asking me this?” It was a shame you two were partnered for the school retreat. “Pay attention, will you? I’m not losing prize money because of you.” Not really, though. Unlike his popular ulzzang stereotype, Bomin was actually quite studious. So not only did the students love him but so did the teachers. It seemed that everyone liked him—except for you.
“Everyone, I’m sure you’re all excited for me to announce the first event that will kick off our retreat…the one and only, most challenging, most enticing and exciting—”
“Don’t say that,” he whined. “I’m a great partner. I’ll do whatever you say.”
“Really?”
Bomin noded, hair falling into his face. “All you have to do is tell me if you belie—”
“ — test of courage! Now, we’ll pass out some flashlights and your hint to get to the end. There are hints along the way as well, and there are multiple paths to take. For safety, you will be given flares. Use those if you wish to drop out. Be safe please, we don’t want a repeat of last year.”
You watch as Bomin’s grin morphs into a grimace of terror. “You ready, golden boy?”
He gulps, “what?”
“You told me you were going to do whatever I say.” You shoved the flashlight you were given into his chest. Bomin fumbled to catch it. “You’re on flashlight duty.”
“So…I’m walking in front?”
“Is that a problem? I’ll be figuring out the clue and navigating.” You cross your arms. “Unless you want to be the one looking around to find the right way to go.”
Bomin switches the flashlight on. “Nevermind that. What happened last year?”
“Teachers won’t tell us. They say a student wandered in the woods too far and never came back. Some just say he dropped out of school because he was too traumatized from bumping into a ghost.” Or he just fell since he didn’t listen to the teacher’s instructions and broke his leg and his parents complained and unenrolled him—nah, you weren’t going to tell him that.
“Oh.” Bomin’s face went pale.
For all those times he’s teased you, you finally are able to mess with him back.
You didn’t take Choi Bomin for a coward. Despite all the rumors circling around that he’s even scared of tripping on cables, you didn’t believe it. You see now why people believed it to be true.
___
“I think we’re lost.”
“Don’t play around with me—” Bomin whined, tugging on your sleeve. He was walking so close to you that his body heat was enough to give you relief from the frigid evening air. “We’re going the right way.”
“We’ve been going in circles.” You frown and give him a nudge. To which he jumps at. “Stop breathing down my neck. I think someone planted a fake hint earlier to prank anyone who came by it. Which was, unfortunately, us.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“Your voice is shaking.”
“No, it’s not.”
“So is your arm.” You sigh. “I’m so glad I’m not scared of the dark or we’d both be in trouble. Now that I know you’re scared of everything, I just hope a murderer doesn’t come out or something. That scares me.”
“Don’t say that!” Bomin chides.
“See? You won’t be able to protect me. You’d run away yoursel—” You hear a crunch.
Bomin clutches your arm this time. “What was that?”
“We’re probably stepping on some dried leaves.”
“That sounded like a lot more than dried leaves.”
You roll your eyes and turn to face him. For the first time, you notice the tears welling in his eyes and the redness of his cheeks and nose. He sniffles. You sigh for the millionth time. “Do you want to use the flare?”
Bomin shakes his head. “You want the prize, right?”
“I mean, yeah—I’m broke. But that’s beside the point. I don’t want you to cry!”
“I’m okay. I promised you that I’d be the best partner ever, right?” Bomin forces a smile. “If we get through this just tell me if you believe in magic or not.”
“Sure,” you raise your eyebrow. “But if you want to stop, the flare is with you. I have no qualms with it. As much as I find you annoying, I don’t think I should subject you to torture. That would be bullying, and I’m not that bad of a person. If you’d like, you can continue clinging to my arm— ”
Bomin blushes even harder. “Sorry,” he says but makes no effort to let go.
“Really? You’re embarrassed now? I’ve seen you scream because of a rock’s shadow.” You chuckle. He manages to break a real smile at that. “It’s kind of cute, so I’ll let it go.”
“You think I’m cute—” Footsteps. The crunching from earlier is now the more recognizable sound of footsteps. Bomin licks his lips as they’re drained of its color. His eyes go wide and his breathing becomes eerily still. “________, Don’t turn around.” Bomin tries to pull you into his chest to restrain your vision, but you whip your head around too fast and catch sight of the glint of a large butcher knife.
Your scream is caught in your throat as a tall figure emerges from the trees. A masked man in all black clothing stalks toward you with no sign of stopping. Your legs give out when the stranger laughs and raises his weapon even higher. As Bomin holds you up, you clumsily take the flare out of your pocket. The man lunges forward and you let out a squeak, flinching. Bomin cries out but instead of running away like he usually does, he drags you back behind him. The flare drops and rolls away a couple feet from the both of you.
“Bomin—we should run.”
As you say that, the sound of a revving motor picks up behind your ears—a motor? No. A chainsaw. “W—what was that?” Bomin’s voice is so low you can barely hear him. You have no idea how he’s standing his ground when running into a spider web managed to render him prone twenty minutes ago.
“T—there’s another psychopath behind me and I think he has a chainsaw.” You’re about to cry. “God, why did they take away our phones?”
Bomin reaches behind him to keep you close to his back. He takes a shaky breath. The two men look like they’re ready to attack.
“I won’t let anyone hurt you, you’re safe with me.” Bomin shuts his eyes tight as he holds up his hands at the two. “I didn’t want to do this but—”
Howling laughter. “Dude, what are you doing?” Man with the knife takes off his mask to reveal a grinning Donghyun. “You’re aiming at us with your eyes closed? And with what? Your palms?”
“Were you planning to shoot lasers with your fingers?” The whirring of the chainsaw stops and Jangjun steps out from the dark. “You guys are too cute—wow, you’re so cool Bominie. Look at you, protecting your girlfriend!” Your senior grins.
Bomin collapses onto the ground before you do, “ah, Hyung. You’re so mean! Never do that again.”
“Sorry ___, we wanted to scare our cutie, not you.” Jangjun drops his prop and helps you up. Your legs still feel shaky from the adrenaline.
“Not that you aren’t cute too,” Donghyun chimes. “But we didn’t expect Bomin to step up like that—hey is he crying?”
You wipe the tears threatening to spill from your eyes, “that was not funny!” You crouch down next to your bawling partner. “He’s cute when he gets scared, not when he thinks he’s going to die! Or when I think I’m going to die.” You try to soothe him.
“Oh…we feel really bad,” Jangjun doesn’t know how to handle the situation for a moment. He locks eyes with Donghyun. “We’ll lead you back and tell the teachers.”
“Yeah, sorry.” Donghyun ruffles Bomin’s hair. “You did well. Sorry for making fun of you, big baby.”
“I—I’m not a baby,” Bomin sniffles, composing himself.
“Sunbaenim. Next time, dress up as ghosts or monsters. Don’t look like mass murderers.”
“Don’t be mad at us ______,” The oldest gives you a guilty look. “We just wanted you guys to have some fun.”
You didn’t take their excuses. You were already mad. “Okay. Just lead us back.”
Donghyun hands Bomin a handkerchief. “I didn’t know you two got along so well, though.”
“Choi Bomin.” You whisper, holding onto his arm. “We’re going back now, okay?”
He nods, clinging onto you.
Jangjun tries to lighten the mood by using his chainsaw like an airport marshaller would use a lightstick. “Please watch your step, we’re setting off this way!”
Donghyun nudges him with a shush. “She’s mad let’s just stay quiet while we walk.”
“R—right.”
____
The teachers spent nearly an hour yelling at the two seniors. You and Bomin watch as Jangjun and Donghyun kneel outside your tent with their arms shaking in the air. Their wails of apologies trail off in the background, the students who’ve returned from the test of courage stare at them strangely.
Some of them are by the crackling fire and some of them are running around with their own group of friends. You see Seungyoon and Joochan sing ballads with a guitar and a gathering crowd. Daeyeol, the senior class president, is supervising Jibeom, Youngtaek, Seungmin, and Jaehyun as they play a rowdy game of catch with their frisbee.
“You don’t want to go out and join your friends?”
Bomin looks pitiful, wrapped in a large blanket, and holding a steaming tumbler of coffee in his hands. “I think I’ll stay here for a bit.”
“You said a bit thirty minutes ago.”
“Why are you still here?”
“What do you mean?”
“I thought you found me annoying.”
You couldn’t debate that. “Yeah, but a bit less now.”
Bomin cracks a smile and rubs his still pink nose. He tries to ignore Jibeom’s piercing laughs as Youngtaek runs after the thrown frisbee.
“I’m sorry we didn’t make it.” He puts down his drink. “And I even promised I was the best partner ever. Ugh.” The way his eyes and nose crinkle with his grimace reminds you of a bunny rabbit.
“It’s okay. I got scared too—those idiots were at fault. I plan to threaten them later and extort some money anyways.”
“You sound like a gangster.” Bomin’s eyes follow his Daeyeol hyung’s frantic figure running to catch the frisbee as well. Wait—wasn’t he just the referee?
“I didn’t expect you to stand up against them like that—if those were real murderers you probably would’ve saved us. Maybe you are a real tough guy, after all.” You clear your throat and try to rack your brain. How should you bring this up? “I just wanted to say… about our promise. I don’t really know why you’ve been constantly pestering me about this but I do believe in—”
“ ______! Bomin! Look out,” Youngtaek screams as he trips over his own feet, face planting onto the ground.
For a split second, you think that the red disc is about to hit you square in the face with its speed. Cursing Jaehyun’s athleticism and strong aim, you barely have enough time to react and flinch. Then, the frisbee comes to an abrupt stop right in front of your face right before Bomin leans over and catches it.
“Got you.” He smiles wide, gums showing. Bomin sheds his blanket like a snake with its skin and stands to reprimand his hyungs once again. “You’re lucky I caught it before it hit her!”
“Ooo, Bomin nice catch!”
“Jibeom this isn’t a time to give him a thumbs up! I’ll have to confiscate the frisbee—someone get Tag to the nurse for god’s sake.” Daeyeol stomps over to Bomin. “Thanks for catching it in time.”
You’re confused, “but—”
The two boys look back at you. “What’s wrong, did you get hurt?” Daeyeol takes the death device from Bomin.
But he didn’t catch it. You didn’t see him touch the frisbee to stop it. “Bomin—”
“Ah, hyung.” Bomin interjects. “I’ll help Tag hyung out while you yell at the others.”
Daeyol nods with a “Thank you” and does as the younger said he would. You see the guilty faces of your seniors once again as they mouth an apology from afar. You turn you eyes to Bomin, who speaks.
“Sorry, ____. I’ll come back after dealing with this.”
“But—”
The black-haired boy looks over his shoulder and winks. “I know what you were going to say earlier, don’t worry.” He smirks ever so slightly while placing a slender finger over his lips. “That was a little secret between us, got it?”
“W—what was?” Your heart beats fast and you could hear the blood rushing through your ears. You beg him to stay with those words, to explain what he meant. Did he really catch that frisbee? Did you actually see it stop in the middle of the air all of a sudden? Was he saying that he did that?
Bomin laughs as the campfire roars behind him, casting his figure aglow in warm light. He looked almost— “the magic I did, silly.”—magical.

Daeyeol
Tumblr media
I don't really know why but I see Daeyeol as a very simple guy.
Of course he wants your first date to be special but he doesn't want something too extravagant
Will insist a lot on picking you up from home or class or from wherever you were at the moment
Kind of spontaneous the way he asked you out on your first date though
He's simple but the boi also likes to make random plans at the moment so it feels more exciting
If you are busy and tell him that you can't go on that date, he will try his best to convince you to leave whatever you're doing and go with him because he just misses you that much.
Will convince you when he lets you know he'll take you to your favorite cafe
That one you have been mentioning ever since you met him
All smiles as soon as his eyes land on you
I bet you have never in your life seen someone as happy as he was when he saw you
Makes sure to make you feel all the love he has for you
Caresses the back of your hand softly as you both share an iced coffee
Will complain a little if the ice melted too fast making the coffee taste a bit weird.
"I bet this date is much funnier than whatever you had to do today. After all I'm your favorite man, right?"
Sungyoon (Y)
Tumblr media
The boy is a well grown up man with a big stomach
Needs to be fed loads of food to be happy
So what a better first date than paying a visit to his favorite restaurant?
Not like you would complain though
I mean, you love food as much as he does and to be honest there's nobody else on this world you would rather spend a day more than with him
Doesn't want to eat breakfast so he can eat more food
You lowkey scold him but end up doing the exact same thing just because you also want to eat a lot
Just to be called hypocrite, but what you gonna do about it? 🤷‍♀️
The waiter will look at you both with wide eyes when you ordered all the food
While Sungyoon looked all proud for all the food he just ordered
You couldn't help smiling at the view of his happy face as soon as the waiter started to bring the food
Get ready to get your heart melted by a happy bunny
Will get really excited about the date he won't be able to choose where he could start
Wants to feed you because he says he has seen it in movies and seems to be really romantic
And after a few minutes of trying to convince you, you finally give in knowing that discussion was going nowhere
"You look like a hamster, you're so cute!" / "Said the bunny boy 🙄."
Jangjun
Tumblr media
Oh boi
We all know how random Jangjun can be
And we all know how extra this kid can get
But to be honest I feel like he would be really nervous and shy for the first date
Yes I'm a simp for shy Jangjun, don't mind me 💀
He had tons of ideas for your first date but in his opinion, all of them were a bit too much for the first date
He wanted to give you a good image before showing you how random and extra he could be
So after a long time of thinking, he came to the conclusion of inviting you over for a sleepover was the best option
Chill and a relaxing Netflix session with you between his arms sounded so good
Wearing his clothes are a must, doesn't matter if you have brought your own pyjamas
The boy needs to see you wearing something from his wardrobe so he can believe you're his s/o
You would be a little shy in the very beginning to be honest
But he would be his goofy self as soon as you arrived, making you feel like you were home
Lots of jokes and laughs were filling his room
He would even throw a few pick up lines from time to time
Ends up being his random and extra self halfway of the date, making you laugh uncontrollably and love him even more
Because who are we trying to lie? He can be all the random and extra shit as he wants that we will love him quite a lot
Best moment of the night would definitely be you both wearing sheet face masks
You a normal one and he a panda one
"You look like a pillow with that thing on your face."
Youngtaek (Tag)
Tumblr media
Nervous af
I don't really know why but Yougntaek gives me that kind of vibe of shy boy when it comes to dating someone
He would want everything to be perfect and struggles a lot to find a good option for your perfect first date
Will be very oblivious when he asks you what would be your perfect first date like
So far, he has learnt that you like nature quite a lot and walking so he has decided that could be a pretty cool first date
Just like Daeyeol, he would insist a lot on picking you up from wherever you were
If you just got out of class or you had to drag some bags or something, he would also insist on being him the one carrying them
Such a gentleman
Would hesitate a lot to grab your hand in his though he tried multiple times to give you the hint to grab his hand
Unfortunately, you were too busy admiring the surroundings to notice his small and insignificant hints
And he'll have to end up asking you if he could grab your hand while walking
His cheeks and ears turning into a light red the moment his skin entered in contact with yours
Would end up calming down a bit when he saw you were completely comfortable with his hand on yours and would finally be the Youngtaek we are all used to see
Will complain a lot about the bugs
But ends up with a happy smile whenever he saw how much you loved your first date
"You know what? Forget all the complaints, this is worth enough if I get to see you this happy."
Seungmin
Tumblr media
Oh boi 2.0
Your first date with Seungmin wasn't even supposed to be a date in the very beginning
He just asked you to go with him to the studio because he was scared
Remember that VLive in which he was singing a Sam Kim's song and the computer broke? Exactly, after that day nothing was the same for him
He swore he wasn't scared of it and that he knew there wasn't any ghosts taking over the computer to fool him
But even though he claimed to be so brave and cool with it, he wouldn't let go of your hand in the entire day
You tried to open Spotify a few times to make the atmosphere a bit more romantic with some music while you both shared a delicious meal
But he stopped you from doing so every single time
The boi has a trauma for the rest of his life, please protect him 🤧
Doesn't even let you go alone to the bathroom because you leaving alone means him staying alone in that room and that was definitely a big no no for him
Will walk with you wherever you had to go so he didn't have to stay alone in that room with that computer
Lowkey you want to prank him but you know he can end up with a heart attaack or hating you for the rest of his life if you did so
You can't help laughing at his frightened figure, making him whine quite a lot
"I said I'm not scared! I swear I'm not a coward, it's just I want to be with you as much as I can because I love you so much."
excuses
Jaehyun
Tumblr media
A normal and beautiful first date
It all started when you got out of class before you thought you would and asked him if he was down for a coffee during his break time
None of you tohught about it as a first date since you were best friends before you started dating
It really felt like any other day you both went to grab some coffee together and shared some gossip
But this time, unlike the rest of the times you have done that, his hand was grabbing yours and drawing random patrons on the back of your hand as he told you some new drama from the company
His husky voice was a plus that made you feel even better
Yes I'm a simp for Jaehyun's husky voice, don't mind me 💀
To be honest, it was a pretty short date because of his schedule
BUT he would stay in there with you until the last second, probably arriving late because he couldn't let go of your hand that easily
Tells you to pick him up in 3h to go get dinner together once he was done with practice
Make sure to keep it as a secret if you don't want the rest of the boys to tag along
"I swear I will kill them if they decide to tag along, I just want to have some time alone with you."
Jibeom
Tumblr media
Autumn dates are a must for this kid
He would say he just loves the chilly weather more than the hot weather
But that was just a stupid excuse to just grab your hands in his to make them warmer
Also loves to walk around for hours with you
Just enjoying each other's presence
Will make you laugh a lot, specially if you feel down for any reason
Feels shy about doing Jaehyun's aegyo impression and the plastic chicken thing
Doesn't even know how could you know about those useless talents at all
Will kill whoever told you about them but not before doing both of them just to see you laugh
He claims your laugh to be music to his ears
The boy loves you so damn much 🤧
If you're wearing a sweater or a jersey, he would pull the paws of it down just for you to wear soft sweater paws
Literally an angel and the softest fluffball you will ever see
"You look so cute with the sweater paws. I could get used to this."
Donghyun
Tumblr media
Secret dinner date at the one and only restaurant the boys don't know about
Not because he is ashamed of dating you or because he wants to hide your relationship
Actually he really loves showing off the two of you in front of the boys
But he doesn't want them interrupting your first date
He wants everything to be perfect and having other 9 crackheads around doesn't make it perfect
You were a bit worried about going to a brand new restaurant, having no idea if it would have good food or not
You both struggle a bit on deciding what you would order, both of you wanting to eat completely different things
Though he ends up giving in and ordering what you wanted just because he wanted to share the dinner with you and have a good excuse to feed you like in movies
You were having a great time together, laughing at random stories he told you about the boys and random stories you told him about your school years
But suddenly a familiar loud voice changed Donghyun's face expressions
You guys don't know how but Jangjun passed by the restaurant and saw you
"Did he put a gps on my phone or something?"
Joochan
Tumblr media
To be honest, I love this date
You were a Youtuber or simply liked to film random videos about what you did every day
Joochan loving to see you doing whatever that made you happy, just because he was able to admire your happiness
A day off for both of you after ages, making the perfect excuse to have your first date
Doesn't it sound great?
He wanted it to be very simple, like Jibeom, just wanting to feel each other's presence while walking around some park or just the beautiful streets of the city
You wanted to film some parts of the date, just so you could have image evidence of the beautiful memory that date would leave in your brains
Defintely will offer himself for being the cameraman, wanting to take different shoots of you just enjoying the day
Will be a bit hesitant when you ask him to appear on the video as well
But will end up giving in after you asked him a few times
The boi can't say no to you 🤧
Will definitely treat you some ice-cream or street food you could find around the place you were visiting right then
And just like Sungyoon and Donghyun, would want to feed you
The only difference was that Sungyoon and Donghyun actually fed you like normal people do and this kid put some ice-cream on your nose and cheeks to lick it clean right after making you extremely annoyed
"Come on, I'm your boyfriend now! How can you say me licking your face is disgusting??"
Bomin
Tumblr media
ROOFTOP DATES
Would prefer if they were at evening so you two could watch the sunset
Really romantic in the very beginning
The boy has even gone to the nearest convenience store to buy some of your favorite drinks
Will LOVE to see you enjoying your drink and will love it even more if you let him know you loved the company you had
A bit bratty in the beginning but will get soft when you get bratty as well
A little bit shy whenever you compliment him and he compliments you back
You find really cute the way his ears turn red even tohugh he denies being shy 🤧
A giant baby that needs to be protected
If the roof was the company building roof, he would lock the door so nobody could interrupt you
And will probably get scolded by Daeyeol right after the date for locking you two in there without asking for permission to the manager
He just nods and ignores the leader words though
"Just ignore him, he's just jealous he doesn't have someone as amazing as you."

Finding a place to sleep proved harder than Jangjun and Daeyeol would’ve imagined. Daeyeol seemed to be worried about you, and Jangjun just wanted to get as far away from the spot he found you at as possible. The two boys kept level heads and managed to find a barrel to which they lit a fire of their own. They settled for sleeping inside an abandoned car near the barrel. Daeyeol helped you get situated in the back seat of the car before getting into the front seat. Quietly closing both doors, Jangjun gave you both a look over before heading a little farther ways up to keep watch.
Your gaze stayed locked on the cold boy who hadn’t as much as spared you another word since he last spoke to you.
“Whatcha thinking about?” Daeyeol asked, looking at you through the rear view mirror.
Your head nodded towards Jangjun’s direction as Daeyeol nodded. “The way you talk about him is incredible. He sounds like a great friend, a great person. If that’s true,”
“It is.” Daeyeol interrupted.
“Then why does he act like that? Cold, heartless, like he doesn’t care about anybody?” You asked the taller boy.
Daeyeol watched you for a moment before smiling softly. “I’m the oldest of our friend group. I’m always the one looking after everyone. It’s me, then Jangjun, Seungmin, Jibeom, and Donghyun. We’re thick as thieves.”
His statement made you smile as he continued. “Jangjun never used to be like that, or like this I should say. He always smiled, loved and lived to make everyone around him smile and laugh. He was like a happy virus.”
You noticed Daeyeol pause as he swallowed. “What happened?”
Daeyeol opened his mouth to speak before closing it, almost as if he was thinking carefully about his words. “Someone in Jangjun’s family got bitten by a friend of his outside our group. They didn’t want the family to see them suffer and Jangjun is the only boy so they had him handle it.”
You sat up slightly. “What do you mean by handle it?”
Daeyeol lifted his gaze to look back at you. “I don’t want to go into detail because it, it’s hard to talk about, but let’s just say it really took a chunk out of Jangjun. He moved out of his family home after that because he blamed himself for what happened and he didn’t want to cause any more harm.”
“But it wasn’t his fault.” You replied softly.
Daeyeol shrugged. “Good luck telling him that.”
Daeyeol turned his head to watch the younger boy who kept a close eye out for any zombies. “Jangjun barely wanted to get taken in by me as he thought myself or the others would get hurt. That’s why he’s so adamant on us finding them. Our friend, Donghyun, suffered an injury while we were traveling. He caught an infection because of it and now he’s sick. The medicine we have can help him. We offered to go because we are the oldest, but when we came back they were gone. He’s worried about me, he’s worried about Jibeom and Seungmin, but most of all he’s worried about Donghyun because he’s the youngest.”
“He’s worried about all of you, but who’s worried about him?” You asked quietly as you both watched the boy.
What you had mistaken for plain rudeness and snobby was just Jangjun being protective. His way of protecting the people he loves was not letting them or himself get close to anyone. You praised Jangjun for his ability to be wary of people. Trusting people easily was a big problem of yours, so much so that you would get scolded by Youngtaek. Even Joochan.
You didn’t get much sleep. Rather you stuck with just pretending to be asleep so Daeyeol wouldn’t worry. Eventually you did fall asleep, which helped Daeyeol out because he was needing to switch shifts with Jangjun but didn’t want to if you were still awake. Jangjun didn’t like the fact that he had to watch over you, considering he didn’t trust you that much.
You were awoken by a sigh as your eyes fluttered open. Sitting in front of you wasn’t the same tall boy who’s figure was in front of you when you fell asleep, but rather his friend. Jangjun’s gaze was locked on his older friend who kept pacing back and forth as he kept watch.
“He’s really nice.” You said softly.
Not expecting you to wake up, Jangjun looked at you through the rear view mirror. He just watched you momentarily before letting out another sigh. The mirror gave you the perfect opportunity to look over the boy’s features. You would be lying if you said he wasn’t handsome. Dark, dark, jet black hair sat atop of his oval shaped head that ended with a pointed chin. He had a defined jawline and pointed nose. The feature that stood out the most was his eyes. You remember when he first stared you down. His dark brown, almost pitch black eyes stood out immediately. They dragged you in very quickly. They were different from everyone else’s. Youngtaek and Joochan had brown eyes, but theirs weren’t nearly as dark as Jangjun’s. Come to think of it, Jangjun’s friend Daeyeol didn’t have dark eyes like him.
“You’re staring.” You heard someone say before shaking your head.
“What?” You asked.
Jangjun shrugged. “You were staring at the mirror.”
You felt your cheeks warm as you tried to sink further into the seat. “Just thinking.”
He didn’t say anything else, rather he nodded before bringing his gaze back to Daeyeol. You followed his gaze and watched the older male before thinking about what he had just said to you. Staring. How did he know you were staring at him, unless Jangjun had been sneaking glances at you as well. The thought of him even being slightly interested in getting to know you like Daeyeol made you smile.
Just when you thought you could keep yourself from being embarrassed again, your brain moved quicker. “You have really pretty eyes.”
Your eyes widened at what you said before noticing something. The compliment that you had meant to say to yourself had brought the smallest smile to Jangjun’s face. His teeth showed just slightly making you understand what Daeyeol had mentioned hours early. His cheeks dusted over in a light shade of pink as he nodded slightly. He didn’t say anything back, but the smile he let slip left you feeling victorious. You turned your attention back to Daeyeol who was talking into a walkie talkie as he watched for zombies.
“Who is he trying to talk to?” You asked softly.
You were expecting to be met with silence so when his raspy voice spoke up softly, you were shocked to say the least.
“Our friend Seungmin has the other one. He’s been trying to get in contact with him for days. We haven’t been able to get an answer.” Jangjun told you.
You noticed his eyes cast down to his fingers as he picked at them. Your mouth opened to say something before Daeyeol was sprinting back to the abandoned car you both were seated in. Jangjun reached to open the passenger side door, having to eventually kick it open with his foot as Daeyeol fell into the seat.
“What? What is it?” Jangjun asked, both you and him looking at Daeyeol with wide eyes.
Daeyeol held up the device in his hands before bringing his index finger to his lip, motioning for the both of you to be quiet.
“Seungmin, it’s Daeyeol. Do you copy?” Daeyeol asked.
The line went quiet as you and Jangjun watched the walkie talkie. You were met with a long moment of silence as Jangjun went to speak.
“Yeol,” He started before being cut off.
All three of you held wide eyes as the line went static before you heard another voice.
“I hear you, hyung. I’m here.” You heard a voice reply.
Jangjun ripped the device from his older friend as he all but yelled into it. “Seungmin, Seungmin you’re alive?”
The voice replied again, this time quicker than the first. “I’m alive. We’re all alive.”
The line cut out before another voice spoke. “We’re here.”
Daeyeol slumped back into the worn out seat slightly as he let out a sigh. “Jibeom,”
“Yes hyung?” The voice said.
“I hate you guys. I’m too old for this.” Daeyeol said, making the two boys laugh.
You smiled before looking at Jangjun. He had a serious look on his face before speaking.
“Where’s Donghyun?” He asked quietly.
Daeyeol watched him as the line went silent. They didn’t answer immediately as Jangjun swallowed, closing his eyes to hold back what you were thinking were going to be tears as Daeyeol laid a hand on his shoulder. Jangjun let his head fall slightly before a weakened voice spoke.
“I’m right here, Jun.” The voice said.
Jangjun’s head shot up. “Donghyun, you’re okay?”
His statement came out more like a question as the other line came through.
“Yeah. I’m okay. If I’m gonna die, it’s going to be from an allergic reaction to the medicine you’re bringing me, not this injury.” The boy said, making both of them laugh.
Daeyeol nodded to himself before speaking. “Where are you three?”
The line quieted again. “We found a building with a storm shelter. The door locks from the inside. When you guys had left, we got ambushed. We barely made it out alive. It’s a little ways past the Han River. It has a big sign on it, advertising hardware. It's in there.”
Both boys nodded.
“Okay, we’re coming to you guys. Don’t move. Seriously.” Jangjun said.
The three boys replied back as Daeyeol gave them an estimated time. He turned the walkie talkie off before looking at Jangjun. They both had a look of relief on their faces as Daeyeol brought his hand to the back of Jangjun’s head, holding it up.
“They’re okay. They’re alive, and they’re okay.” Daeyeol assured him as Jangjun nodded.
Daeyeol turned to you as he spoke. “We gotta get going.”
You nodded, gathering up the little things you had as both boys got out of the car. You were waiting for Daeyeol to help you before the door opened. The hand that reached for you definitely wasn’t Daeyeol as you peeked out from the car. Jangjun’s dark eyes stared down at you as his hand stayed parked right in front of you. Looking at it, you slipped your hand into his as he pulled you up and out of the car. You both stared at each other for a moment before hearing Daeyeol clear his throat.
Your hand dropped from his as Daeyeol spoke. “The Han River is about two and a half hours away by car. Clearly there are no working ones, so we better start moving now. I found a flashlight. We’ll use it and some of the working streetlights to help ourselves navigate the streets. If we start now, we should be able to get to their location by early afternoon.”
Jangjun nodded as he grabbed the backpack he had been wearing, throwing it over his shoulder. Daeyeol did the same as the three of you started your trip.
The first hour was quiet. Avoiding zombies proved to be easier than it seemed as you would walk behind zombies or out of the light, following just the moon in order to navigate your way through the maze you were creating. Conversation was kept to a minimum as to not alert any unwanted attention from the creatures of the night. All three of you were on a mission. You just to know there was more people, and the guys to find and help their friends.
Jangjun’s face stayed contorted in a serious look as he led the way, wanting nothing more than to get off the streets and find his friends. You were expecting a bit more conversation from him considered how he slightly opened up to you, but instead it right back to where it was when you had first met. The night sky was starting to shift to a lighter color on the horizon had the sun was beginning to rise. Some of the street lights had turned off, preparing for the daylight which was always just a yellowish orange haze since the outbreak.
“Hey, let’s stop up here. Take a quick break.” Daeyeol suggested as Jangjun stopped.
He let out a sigh, clearly not wanting to stop but knew why he did. For you. Jangjun didn’t bother turning around rather walking the perimeter of the area you had stopped before sitting down by himself. You watched him, taking in how he looked around at his surroundings.
“So, you mentioned how you were traveling with your boyfriend and his best friend?” Daeyeol asked.
The question made you look away from Jangjun as you messed with your fingers. You nodded as Daeyeol sat down next to you.
“You don’t have to talk about him if you don’t want to, but you seem sweet and I’d like to get to know you more. I like meeting new people.” Daeyeol said, this time in a softer tone.
Looking into his eyes, you smiled with a nod.
“His name is Youngtaek. My boyfriend, that’s his name. He’s tall, goofy, clumsy, always smiling and laughing. If we had ever met before all of this, he and Jangjun would probably be inseparable. I’ll even throw his best friend Joochan in there too. Joochan is funny and loud. He loves singing. They were my boys.” You said quietly.
Daeyeol nodded. “They still are your boys. Don’t lose hope.”
“I think that’s been a long enough break. Can we get going now?” You both heard as Daeyeol closed his eyes with a sigh and nod of his head.
He gave you a small smile before standing up, dusting himself off, and helping you. Jangjun walked over to the both of you before looking at his friend.
“It’s your turn to lead.” Jangjun said quietly.
Daeyeol nodded, hoisting the backpack he had on higher up on his shoulders. He started to walk, you following behind as Jangjun fell in stride. The three of you didn’t stop for long, but it was long enough to get a glimpse of the sun rising above the horizon. The sky started to turn a light shade of green as the sun pushed the darkness to the other side of the planet. Daeyeol kept a close eye out as the sky became lighter in color. More zombies were beginning to appear making it harder to stay out in the open. You three continued to walk as Jangjun spoke quietly.
“Let’s try going through these abandoned buildings. The light is pulling the zombies out of the buildings, and the damage to them will help us slip through,” Jangjun stopped to look at the building openings. “As long as we don’t stop.”
You could tell the dig was at you, and it upset you to no end considering the little bit of openness he gave you just an hour or so before.
“Take it easy, Jangjun. Come on.” Daeyeol scolded as he led the way to the buildings.
The three of you walked as quickly and quietly as possible through the buildings. Dodging zombies proved to be easier than expected due to Jangjun’s quick thinking and scene-causing. Anytime he felt the three of you were getting too close to some zombies, he’d find a way to create a diversion to send them on their way. With each diversion successfully created, Jangjun would carry on with a small, victorious smile on his face. Daeyeol couldn’t help but laugh as he would whisper to you.
“Because that’s just what Jangjun needs. A ego boost.” Daeyeol said, making you laugh.
Jangjun continued with his antics before stopping when no more zombies seemed to be in sight. You had managed to scale through quite a few buildings without running into anymore zombies. As you kept walking, you noticed a clinic.
“Look,” You pointed out.
The two boys stopped as you spoke. “Do you think anyone is in there?”
Daeyeol looked over the broken up doors as he turned towards Jangjun. “Stay here.”
“You’re not going in there alone.” Jangjun told him.
Daeyeol nodded his head. “Yes I am. Stay here and find shelter in that building over there. I mean it.”
Daeyeol took off towards the clinic as Jangjun let out a frustrated sigh. He ran his hand through his jet black hair before looking at the building across the way that Daeyeol had pointed at. It looked like a run-down café as he grabbed your hand and pulled you with him.
“W-wait, no. We can’t just let him go in by himself.” You said.
“He’ll be fine.” Jangjun retorted, still pulling you despite your struggle.
You shook your head. “We don’t know that.”
“He said find shelter so that’s what we’re doing.” Jangjun replied.
“Stop. We aren’t leaving him.” You finally got your wrist out of his grip as he stopped.
Jangjun turned to you, his dark eyes boring into yours as you shrunk down from the intensity of his gaze. “Fine. If you want to stay out here by yourself with no protection then you do that. I’m going to listen to Daeyeol and go find shelter.”
The boy turned back towards the café and walked off. Your eyebrows furrowed as you bit your lip. Your instincts were telling you to go after Daeyeol and help him, but your heart was telling you something else. Something like go with Jangjun. You let out an internal whine before heading in Jangjun’s direction.
You lifted a tarp that covered the door before stopping when you heard a noise.
“Relax.” Jangjun’s voice said softly, making you jump. “Glad you decided to not be stupid and join me.”
Jangjun was behind the counter of the rundown café as he leaned over the structure. His dark eyes watched you intently as you made your way through the destruction. Torn up pictures and ripped through interior from bar stools and booth tables were all that greeted you. The place looked as though it used to be homey and calming, but now all it was was desolate and broken.
“This place used to be nice.” You heard Jangjun say.
His statement caught you off guard.
“You’ve been here before?” You asked.
Jangjun nodded, his dark hair falling softly in front of his eyes. “Yeah. In fact, we used to play basketball outside to the left on the open courts over there.”
He pointed towards a broken window that gave a view of beat up basketball courts that were covered in overgrown weeds.
“What did you always get?” You asked, genuinely curious.
He cracked a small smile, prompting you to take some steps towards the counter he was currently leaning on.
“Banana Milk Tea. Simple but tasted so good. Especially in the summertime.” Jangjun said softly.
You felt yourself smile. “I love banana milk.”
Jangjun’s eyes went from the broken window to you and for the first time you saw something different. His gaze wasn’t hard or intense. It held a softness in it.  A softness you had never seen before, not even in your own boyfriend’s eyes.
“I’m sorry.” Jangjun whispered.
By that moment you stood face to face with him, the only obstruction stopping you from walking into him being the counter. You could hear him clearly, but that didn’t stop him.
“I’ve been kind of a dick,” You interrupted him.
“Kind of?” You said teasingly.
“Okay, I’ve been a huge dickhead. I’m just, I don’t know. I worry a lot. About myself, about my friends. I’m not a very trusting person, which is insane because I never used to be this way. Then again, I’ve seen and done some things that I can say have definitely influenced change on me.” Jangjun replied.
His dark eyes casted down to his hands that were enclosed on each other as he spoke again. “I shouldn’t have yelled at you outside, or called you stupid. You were only trying to keep Daeyeol safe, and I’m grateful for that. Daeyeol, our friends we’re looking for, they are all I have.”
You frowned, thinking of the story Daeyeol told you. “No family?”
Jangjun took in a sharp breath, making you softly speak up.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have pried. It’s none of my business.” You told him.
Jangjun shook his head. “No it’s okay. I do have family, or I did. I left in the beginning of this apocalypse and haven’t seen them since. I don’t even know if they are alive.”
You swallowed at his statement. “I know how you feel. I-I wanna believe my boyfriend and best friend are still out there alive, but it’s like the more time goes by without seeing them,”
“The harder it is to keep believing.” Jangjun finished.
Nodding at his statement, you looked at him. “Yeah. Pretty much.”
You went to speak again before hearing some rustling behind you. Jangjun quickly jumped over the counter to push you behind him as he watched the tarp covering the door get lifted. The both of you let out a sigh of relief as Daeyeol came in.
“The cabinets had already been rummaged through. As if someone was looking for medicine for themselves.” Daeyeol said.
Jangjun nodded. “So either there are more survivors or zombies got into them.”
“There are more survivors, at least I believe so.” You said from behind the boy. Reaching into the jacket you were wearing, you pulled out the note you had found with Youngtaek and Joochan.
You handed the note to Jangjun as he read it, getting louder as he got to the end.
“Tell her I love her. I’ll find you guys soon. Sungyoon. Where did you find this?” Jangjun asked.
“We found an abandoned bus and Joochan found the note.” You told him.
Daeyeol held out his hand, silently asking for the letter as Jangjun handed it to him. “There’s blood on it, but it’s not from a human.”
You nodded, remembering Youngtaek saying those exact words. You hoped it wasn’t a foreshadow of something worse to come as you frowned.
“How far out are we?” You asked.
Both boys looked at you as Daeyeol spoke. “We’ve still got at least two hours. An hour and a half if we don’t stop anymore.”
Jangjun nodded, fixing the backpack he had on. “Let’s head out then.”
You and Daeyeol nodded. The both of you went to walk out before you noticed a picture frame on the ground. Veering off towards the broken frame, Jangjun noticed you from the corner of his eye as he grabbed Daeyeol’s arm, stopping the older boy.
“Look,” You said, kneeling down to lift the frame carefully as to not cut yourself on the broken glass and metal still encasing the picture. “Are they the owners?”
The two boys headed towards your direction as you got up from your position on the floor. Gently scraping the broken shards out of the way, you looked at the photo.
“Mother and son?” You asked, looking at Jangjun.
He nodded. “Yeah. I don’t know his name, but I remember that they were really close. Well, they did have a bit of a fight with each other but other than that it was a great mother-son relationship.”
“They look happy.” Daeyeol said softly.
You nodded before you both heard a guttural groan from outside the building.
“Okay, we gotta go. Now.” Daeyeol whispered sternly as you all headed for the door.
They positioned you in between the both of them so you were protected in the front and the back as you exited the building. You moved slowly so as to not make any noise. The sky was now a light shade of orange signaling the late morning that had now fallen upon you. The three of you continued your trek through the streets in search of the hardware store the boys’ friends had spoken about.
Silence consumed the three of you as you walked for what seemed like forever. No conversation was made up until you noticed a gated area.
“Look,” You pointed at the gate. “The Han River.”
Jangjun let out a sigh of relief as a smile made its way to his face. “We made it. Oh my god we made it.”
“We aren’t out of the clear yet.” Daeyeol said, interrupting Jangjun’s thoughts. “Got a lot of zombies covering our path.”
Daeyeol looked all around as he took in the amount of zombies that were surrounding the area.
“Maybe we can get help from Seungmin and Jibeom?” Jangjun asked.
The older boy nodded as he pulled out the walkie talkie. “Seungmin, this is Daeyeol.”
The three of you stayed quiet before hearing the walkie talkie beep.
“Hyung, I’m here. What’s up?” The voice said.
“We made it to the Han River. We can’t get any further though. Zombies are blocking the way, and there’s a lot of them.” Daeyeol told the boy.
The line went silent for a moment before coming back to life. “What do you need us to do?”
Daeyeol looked at Jangjun as his face widened in shock. Grabbing the walkie talkie from the older male, he spoke.
“Seungmin, are there any windows in the place you guys are in?” Jangjun asked.
A ‘yes’ came through as Jangjun spoke again. “Any heavy objects that can make a lot of noise?”
The same repeated answer was replied to Jangjun as he nodded. “I need you to open the window, as quietly as you possibly can, and throw the objects out the window. Throw them as far as you can. The noise will lure the zombies down that way.”
“Jun that’s perfect! The entrance is on the other side of the building away from the window. Jibeom can help you guys get in and I can cause the diversion.” The voice said excitedly.
Daeyeol couldn’t help but chuckle at his younger friends excitement. “Alright, let’s stay focused and not get too excited. We haven’t made it yet. This plan has to work, or else we’re stuck out here for another night.”
Jangjun nodded at the boys words as he spoke. “Hyung is right. We gotta hold off on celebrations until the plan falls into place. Just, be careful. Please.”
“We will. I promise. We’ll get started right now.” The voice said before the line went dead.
You looked at the two boys before speaking. “What now?”
Daeyeol let out a sigh. “We need to climb the fence. Getting on the other side will leave us with some space between us and the zombies. Come on.”
Daeyeol walked towards the fence, pulling off the bag on his back as he tossed it over. It hit the ground as he helped you over. Jangjun followed, then Daeyeol as he picked up the bag. The three of you continued on before hearing a loud noise. A few zombies let out screams prompting Daeyeol to push you down towards the ground, Jangjun following.
“Get down.” Daeyeol whisper-yelled as he looked through the vines growing on the fence.
More zombies let out screams as they headed towards the direction of the sound. Another loud sound was made as they started running.
“We gotta get back over the fence, right now. I can see the hardware sign.” Jangjun said.
Jangjun went to climb the fence, making Daeyeol jump up. “No, Jangjun wait!”
Daeyeol quickly pulled you up, practically pushing you over the fence as he tried to stop the overzealous boy from making a big mistake. Jangjun had set a fullon dead sprint towards the building where the sign hung before Daeyeol was pulling you with him. The commotion managed to set off a few zombies as they started to run your way.
“Daeyeol!” You yelled out making the boy stop.
His eyes widened as the zombies got closer before Jangjun jumped in front of the two of you. He pushed one of the zombies that got close before ripping off the bag he had on, shoving it into your hands.
“Run. Go now!” Jangjun shouted.
The situation was starting to make your head spin as Daeyeol gave the younger boy a pleading look. The zombies were starting to draw nearer as Jangjun reached into the bag and pulled out a bottle of pills. He ran towards the horde as he shook the bottle.
Daeyeol pulled you towards the building as you watched Jangjun get swarmed by zombies. The scene was all too real for you as you had seen it once before. You turned your head away, burying it in Daeyeol’s arm as Daeyeol pounded on the door. The large door echoed with each hit, alerting some of the zombies that had surrounded Jangjun.
You heard a lock from the other side before it opened as Daeyeol practically pushed you into the short boy who opened it. He threw himself in and closed the door behind him, locking it as the boy you had hit spoke.
“Hyung, where’s Jangjun?” The boy asked.
Daeyeol kept his hands on the door as you watched him.
“Where is he?” The boy yelled again.
Daeyeol turned as he caught his breath. “Jangjun alerted some zombies while we were making a run to the building. He grabbed a bottle and shook it to help us get in.”
The boy hadn’t even registered that you were in there with them as he ran into Daeyeol. Daeyeol hugged him tightly before looking past you.
“Jibeom,” Daeyeol started as a dark-haired boy pushed past you and ran straight to the older male. “I’m so glad you guys are okay!”
“Where’s Jangjun-hyung?” Jibeom asked.
Before Daeyeol could speak there was pounding at the door. Daeyeol pushed the two boys back as he turned to the door, keeping his hand on the loose lock so it wouldn’t unlatch itself. The pounding got harder and more frequent as Daeyeol spoke without turning around.
“Go take cover somewhere. Go where Donghyun is.” The boy told the three of you.
You were starting to get worried now. You guys had already lost Jangjun in this mess, you didn’t want to lose Daeyeol either.
“Daeyeol,” You started, but he interrupted.
“Now!” Daeyeol yelled.
You jumped slightly as the dark-haired boy grabbed your hand, pulling you along with him. The three of you entered a small room where another boy was laid on a small cot. They closed the door just enough to hide you, but left it open a crack. The dark haired boy let go of your hand as him and the smaller boy tended to the one laying down. You watched them for a moment before looking through the crack in the door. Daeyeol kept his grip on the lock before leaning his head against the door. That’s when you all heard the yell.
“Open the door! It’s me! Open the door!” Jangjun yelled as Daeyeol raced to push the door open.
Jangjun squeezed through, helping Daeyeol close it before jumping into Daeyeol’s arms. Daeyeol hugged him tightly as you ripped open the door.
“Hey!” One of the boys yelled as you ran up to the two boys you had traveled with, pulling both of them into a hug.
They hugged back, stunned as you removed your one arm that was around Daeyeol to wrap around Jangjun’s torso. He seemed shocked at your actions as he slowly wrapped his own arms around you.
“You’re okay.” You breathed out.
Jangjun looked at Daeyeol as the older boy had a small smile sitting on his face.
“Yeah, I’m okay.” Jangjun said before hearing commotion coming from behind you.
“Jangjun!” Someone yelled as you pulled away.
The two boys you had hid with made their way out of the room and towards the boy. Jangjun let out a sigh of relief as he hugged both boys.
“Where’s Donghyun?” Jangjun asked as the shorter boy led him away.
Daeyeol watched the two of them before letting out a sigh of his own. He closed his eyes for a moment before opening them and looking at you, giving you a smile. You smiled back before looking at the boy in front of you.
“Oh, where are my manners? Jibeom, this is Y/N. Y/N this is Jibeom.” Daeyeol introduced the both of you.
You watched the boy look you up and down before giving you a friendly smile. He held out his hand towards you as you took it, shaking gently.
“Nice to meet you, Jibeom.” You said quietly.
He nodded. “Likewise.”
Jibeom wasn’t as tall as Jangjun or Daeyeol, but he was on the tall side. He was slim and like Jangjun, you noticed the dark hair he carried. You smiled at him before hearing Jangjun’s voice.
“When was the last time Donghyun had any medicine?” He asked.
Jibeom turned to him. “Yesterday. We ran out yesterday.”
Jangjun nodded as he walked over to you. He went to reach for the bag on your back before stopping.
“Do you want to meet Donghyun?” Jangjun asked.
Before you could answer, Daeyeol spoke up. He was walking towards the open window as turned.
“Might as well meet everyone. You’re one of us now.” He told you before grabbing the window and closing it.
Jangjun led the way back into the room you had hid in. The short boy from earlier was hovering over the cot, softly speaking to someone who was laying down.
“Look who’s up and at ‘em?” Jangjun said, catching both boys’ attention.
The one laying down struggled, but managed to sit up enough for Jangjun to pull him into a tight hug.
“You guys made it!” The boy said in a soft voice.
You smiled slightly before feeling someone’s stare on you. Looking up, you made eye contact with the short boy from earlier. Jangjun had pulled away from his hug as he spoke.
“This is Donghyun.” Jangjun said with a small smile.
Donghyun turned his head towards you as he gave you a weak smile.
“Nice to meet you.” The boy said softly.
The short boy from earlier spoke up. “I don’t remember you on the trip. Where did they find you?”
Turning towards him, you heard Jangjun speak. “Take it easy Seungmin. Everyone’s safe.”
Seungmin eyed you before speaking. “I may not trust you yet, but thank you for helping them.”
You couldn’t help but laugh at his semi-rude praise as you turned back towards Donghyun and Jangjun. Jangjun was helping the younger boy sit up as you took the bag you had off your bag. He reached behind him without looking back as you handed off the bag. As Jangjun rummaged through it, the door creaked open.
Daeyeol popped his head in as he spoke. “Hey, can I borrow you for a second?”
You pointed at yourself as the boy nodded. Excusing yourself, Daeyeol pulled you back into the main part of the building you had previously entered as he stopped. With him was Jibeom, and he looked as pale as a ghost.
“Jibeom told me there were some people occupying this space before the three of them got here.” Daeyeol told you.
You nodded slowly as he continued. “He said that there was two of them.”
Jibeom interrupted him this time. “They said they were looking for someone they got separated from.”
The breath got caught in your throat as you let your hands drop to your sides. “You, um, was it two boys? One with red hair, the other with dark brown?”
Jibeom nodded. “They said their names were,”
“Youngtaek and Joochan.” You whispered out.
“Yeah. They looked worried.” The boy said softly.
You felt a tear slip from your eye as you looked at Daeyeol. “They’re alive. Both of them are alive.”
Daeyeol sighed. “Jibeom, finish what you told me.”
Looking back at Jibeom, he nodded. “So, we let them stay here for some time. Eventually they both were able to find a place to hideout. They’ve been staying there since then.”
You started to mess with your fingers. “I can’t believe they’re actually alive. I have to find them. I need to go see them. You said they were on this block? I have to, I have to find them.”
You started to move around frantically. Grabbing the jacket that you had on, you moved towards the door, hands grasping the large lock. Jibeom and Daeyeol started to panic as they both ran towards you. The commotion caused Jangjun and Seungmin to push open the door to the room they were in as they ran out and watched Jibeom and Daeyeol struggle.
“Woah woah! What’s going on?” Jangjun yelled as he ran towards the chaotic scene.
He went to reach for your arm, just barely missing as you kept fending off the other two boys and continued to mess with the lock.
“Please just relax. You can’t go out there.” Jibeom says calmly as to not tick you off anymore.
Daeyeol reached for the lock, holding it shut as you pushed at him.
“No! Let me out! They’re still alive, and I need to find them.” You yelled.
“Who’s still alive?” Seungmin asked from the far end of the room.
Jangjun watched you continue to rattle with the lock under Daeyeol’s hand as he stepped towards you.
“Move your hand, Daeyeol!” You yelled at the boy before feeling someone grab you.
The grip on your arms was strong enough to turn you around as you tried to get out of it. You came face to face with Jangjun as he put little effort into holding you still.
“Seriously Jangjun! Let me go! I need to find them!” Your last yell came with a rush of strength as you pushed Jangjun hard enough to make him stumble.
You turned back around to reach for the lock when he stopped you again.
“Jangjun back off! You didn’t even want me to be here earlier!” You said without looking at him.
Your words struck a nerve as Jangjun pushed you and Daeyeol out of the way. He unlocked the door himself and moved out of the way.
“You are absolutely right. Go ahead then. Leave.” Jangjun said.
“Jun,” Daeyeol warned.
“Shut up! You want to leave, right? Go ahead and leave. Go out there by yourself with no weapons, no clues to where on this street they are despite this street being stuffed with abandoned buildings! You’ll be dead before you even get halfway down the street.” Jangjun finished.
You tore your eyes from his seething gaze and looked at the door. The lock slung back gave you the perfect chance to walk out the door, but just like your words struck a nerve in Jangjun, his struck a nerve in you.
“You don’t have to be an ass about it.” You said softly, not bothering to look at him.
Jangjun let out a chuckle. “Welcome to the real world. Not everyone is kind and just. Now, before you get all of us killed with your irate behavior, why don’t you sit down, relax and rest. Give those things on the other side of the door some time to disperse, and I’ll help you look for the two of them tomorrow.”
Daeyeol reached behind Jangjun to lock the door as he nodded. “Though I don’t like the way he worded it, I agree with Jangjun. There’s strength in our numbers. You can’t go out there by yourself. Jibeom can even go with you because he’ll probably know where they are. Okay? Deal?”
Everyone was looking at you as you nodded. “Yeah. Deal.
Jibeom and Daeyeol let out the breath they were holding as Jangjun nodded. He went to walk past you as he was shoved, hard. He stumbled as everyone looked at you.
“What the hell was that for?” Jangjun asked angrily.
“You,” Your finger jabbed at his chest. “Don’t you ever talk to me like that again or I’ll gather up the strength to throw you out the door myself.”
You pushed past him to go to an abandoned part of the building everyone was in as Jangjun turned to look at Daeyeol. The oldest stood by the door with a small smile on his face as he shrugged.
“Looks like your bad attitude is rubbing off.” Daeyeol told him in a teasing tone.
