word count: 1262
cw: none other than dabi's foul language
summary: dabi encounters a cat. i continue to spoon-feed this man happiness. based on this prompt by the lovely @scarlettcryptid ♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before he knows it, a quiet ‘Pss-pss-pss’ leaves his lips.
He tries it all.
Clicking his tongue, saying - whispering - “Here, stupid fucking kitty”, because god forbid someone hears. Slowly putting his hand out, some more ‘Pss-pss’-ing - anything that had worked on the neighbours’ cats when Fuyumi did it.
Here he sits; Todoroki Touya, a man stripped of all dignity at the sight of a fat cat.
Tumblr media
The concrete is cold underneath his palm. Dabi welcomes April’s spring breeze, a strand of jet black hair tickling his cheek as he pulls the strings of his hoodie tighter. The dewy scent of the morning air is overtaken by the intense smell of steaming hot Yakitori, fresh off the grill, bought - not stolen - bought with his own, hard-earned cash money. (That, admittedly, he had stolen.)
You’ve got to indulge, the vendor had shouted, in the little pleasures! Treat yourself to life's delectable delights! Two plus two, Weekday special! Don’t miss out on-
“Screw you,” he’d told her, shoving the money on the little silver tray next to the register, scowling when she still served him with a bright smile, one that reminded him of Fuyumi’s excited grin every time she’d successfully pulled off a trick on her beautifully painted Kendama. Fuyumi would be so upset, he thinks, if she knew where he gets his food from these days.
He pulls the first skewer from the paper box, diligently inspecting a grain of Szechuan pepper. Dabi hasn’t laid eyes upon a spice in months - especially not one this pricey.
No, ever since he’s made a temporary home in the outer area of the city, it’s been nothing but dumpster diving and collecting restaurant leftovers for him. Stale bread. Expired cookies. Plain rice, cooked in an old bean can. Salted butter. Some Chili powder on top of his potatoes, if the old man at the soup kitchen was feeling generous.
Compared to the barely digestible nutrients his body runs on, the sight mere inches from his face is a divine gift.
After turning it over once more he finally takes a small bite, careful to pull the piece of chicken off the skewer with his front teeth. He’s become even more sensitive to temperature lately, and his teeth are the most annoying aspect. Not the sizzling of his flesh when he overuses his quirk, not the burn behind his eyes as they go dry. Those he’s gotten used to rather quickly. But when most of the food you eat is either cold or poorly reheated, the sensation of something hot is bound to cause major discomfort.
It’s not as bad as he expects. Neither the temperature sensitivity nor the taste. He begins to chew more boldly, savouring the harmonious balance between onion and garlic, sea salt and pepper, topped with tare sauce and just a hint of lemon. Say about the outskirt markets what you will, but those street food vendors do know how to grill a chicken.
Dabi doesn’t notice how quiet it’s gotten until something chirps behind him.
A cat.
A rather well-fed cat.
A cat that technically isn’t overweight, but its thick fur coat still makes it look a little fat.
Black with a white tummy and some spots of orange near its paws, sitting two arms’ lengths away. Its eyes follow the skewer as he moves it to one side, then the other, then dangles it upside down. Some grease drips onto the grass of the porch he’s sitting on. He finishes the remaining pieces of chicken and pulls out the second skewer, eyes shifting between his precious meal and the overly attentive cat.
Finally, he decides to pinch off a small piece, chewing at the spiced crust until it’s gone. He tosses the plain chicken towards the cat but to his surprise, it flinches and retreats behind a large flower pot.
The little fucker.
Wasted half a bite of perfectly good food.
Dabi turns his attention back towards his steaming Yakitori. Some time passes. He doesn’t know if it’s seconds or minutes that he zones out looking at the flowering apricot tree in the distance, but he’s pulled back to reality by soft chewing noises. Careful not to make another sudden movement he shifts a bit, just enough to look over his shoulder. Sure enough, the feline is greedily nibbling at the slice of meat. The two of them make brief eye contact before turning their attention back to their respective meals.
The sound behind him subsides shortly after and is replaced by a soft purring, one that he knows isn’t directed at him. He lets the cat have another piece from his third skewer nonetheless, this time giving it a gentle toss so it lands a few inches closer.
Still visibly tense, it takes a few steps forward and sniffs at the chicken before gulping it down in a few bites. Greedy shit, Dabi thinks, as he sacrifices yet another precious piece. He puts it down at his side, rubbing his fingers together. The cat’s attention is on the meat immediately, ears twitching as it courageously inches closer towards Dabi. He finishes the last of his Yakitori, never breaking eye contact with the cowardly little furball next to him.
After a thorough standoff, the cat’s curiosity gets the better of it. It keeps its stomach low as it sneaks across the ground, stretching its long neck to sniff at the finger that Dabi used to pull the Yakitori off the skewer earlier.
“If you bite me, I’m sending you to the coat factory.”
As if that theory was being tested, Dabi feels a sudden nip at his fingers. Cursing, he pulls back slightly, only to see the mischievous fucker’s pupils go wider. He wipes the bits of chicken grease off in the dewy grass and offers his palm again, checking both sides of the street to make sure nobody’s looking.
As if to taunt him, the little furball pounces and takes a swipe at Dabi’s hand before he can turn his attention back to the porch. It chatters in surprise when the man pulls away just in time.
Fucker, as Dabi decides to dub this newfound enemy of his, darts toward his other hand where he’s drawing lazy patterns on the concrete. With its claws half out and its tail puffed up, it races toward the wall, around the flower pot and jumps back onto the lawn to take another playful swing at Dabi’s limbs. Minutes later, he’s got the little menace chasing his fingers in circles, losing balance here and there and rolling over ever so often.
He’s focused, eagerly following the cat’s every move, trying to predict its attacks by the flick of its tail, an ear twitch, pupils that narrow ever so slightly before it leaps forward.
He’ll never admit it. That for once, there’s a sudden lack of grief in his heart.
Only when the first ray of sunshine hits the outer edge of the garden does he let himself fall backwards. The cat is but a purring weight on his thigh, stretching its paws across his lap with the softest ‘Meow’. Eyes closed and arms stretched out, he inhales slowly and holds his breath until he feels his pulse slow down. Dabi doesn’t care that his hair is getting a little wet, doesn’t care that the grass tickling his ears stings a little, doesn’t care that he’ll probably have red marks on his hands for a while.
If he shuts his eyes hard enough, he might still be able to convince himself that Touya is dead.

ruderal pt. 1 | paul lahote x reader
Tumblr media
hi everyone! this is my first ever twilight imagine (and the first fanfic i've written in like 5 years) and it's already looking like it will be somewhat of a series. would love to hear your feedback (good or bad) on this, or if you want a second part :)
------
ruderal pt. 1 | paul lahote x reader
word count: 1.1k | based off a random writing prompt generator
you never know who you’ll run into at a funeral - or, in this case, the reception.
the church gymnasium was full of Forks residents, gathered to celebrate the life of Deborah Lewin. she worked as a teacher in the town for 30 years, long enough to teach the kin of some of her first classes of students. so, it wasn’t a surprise that the echoey cinderblock room was nearly full of people.
you were seated at a table towards the middle of the space, sharing it with some of your friends who you’d had class with back when you had Mrs. Lewin as a teacher. you gazed out upon the sea of figures dressed in black, taking a mental inventory of all of the familiar faces in the room, when you spotted a face you didn’t expect to see entering the door.
“oh my god” you winced, averting your gaze and lowering your head immediately before you had the chance to be spotted.
“what?” your friend Ruby said, slightly panicked at your sudden, albeit quiet, outburst.
“Paul’s here.” you deadpanned, planning your escape as you spoke.
“Paul Lahote?” you hadn’t seen him in years, since he broke up with you over the phone for seemingly no reason on a random wednesday night.
“what other Paul could it be?” it came out harsher than you intended, but right now, you couldn’t seem to care that much.
of course, you looked up at the exact wrong time - Paul was looking at you from across the room. he stood in the food line next to Jacob Black, holding a ladle full of potato salad in one hand and a paper plate in the other.
before you could even really recognize that he was, in fact, staring at you, the two of you made direct eye contact. in the split second before you instinctually looked away, you could have sworn you saw Paul’s face twitch into the same shocked expression that you wore on your face as you watched him walk in the room just a few minutes ago. however, there seemed to be something more behind his eyes, too; you couldn’t tell if it was fear, or pain, or sorrow, but there was something else there.
“do you want to leave?” Ruby’s words snapped you out of your small trance.
“no, i’m not here for me. i’m here for Mrs. Lewin. Paul’s not important enough for me to need to leave.” your words were unconvincing, even to yourself. you’d never truly moved on, never forgiven Paul for what he had done. he couldn’t even explain why - he just kept repeating that it was “for your own good” and “you’d be better off without him.” it stung that he would be willing to throw away nearly a year of time spent together, and to not even dignify you with doing it in person?
“i think i’m going to step outside for a second. it’s really hot in here and this sweater is not helping.” you tugged at the collar of your thick turtleneck. it was normally one of your favorites, but the mixture of anxiety and embarrassment bringing your body temperature up was enough for you to want to rip it off of your body as soon as humanly possible.
Ruby nodded, eyeing you suspiciously but recognizing that asking any questions right now would be entirely unproductive. the redhead turned back to your other friends, starting to tell the story of when Tyler Jackson broke her arm under the slide in kindergarten.
the cold, damp air brought you back to a somewhat normal headspace as you stepped outside. it was times like these, standing under an awning, watching the rain fall on the trees and the parked cars in front of you, that you wished you smoked cigarettes. you bet that it would help calm your nerves even more; to distract you from the feelings that had been stirred up tonight.
but, you had none, so you opted to take deep breaths in and out instead. your eyes closed and you slid down the wall, planting yourself cross-legged on the concrete. after a few minutes of meditative breathing and counting the raindrops that dripped onto the shrubbery in front of you, you heard the old church door creak open.
“y/n?” a small, deep voice asked. you still had not looked up from the shrubs, but you knew that voice anywhere. this time, though, it sounded different. weaker.
“what do you want, Paul?” your tone was laced with annoyance. despite whatever feelings you had remaining for him, he was probably the last person you wanted to talk to right now.
“can i sit with you?” he asked, taking a small step forward. he waited for your gentle nod before awkwardly parking himself next to you, but not too close. you were grateful for the space that remained, already regretting your split-second decision to allow him to join you.
“now will you tell me what you want? why you’re even bothering to speak to me?”
“i miss you.” he sighed. you could see him rubbing his temples with his impressively large hand, eyes covered and a slight wince on his face as he waited for your reaction.
“you miss me? you fucking miss me? go to hell, Paul. you’re the one who ended things - over the fucking phone, might i add - not me. you have no right to come over here and act like you even deserve to be sitting next to me right now, let alone telling me you miss me.” you were on your feet now, trying and failing to keep your voice down as you watched Paul seem to recoil at your tone. you were still confused why he was acting like this; usually, nothing could crack his tough exterior, but here he was with his knees to his chest pushing himself against the church wall, not even making eye contact with you.
“now, if you’ll excuse me, i’m going back inside. this day is not about you, or me.”
“y/n, wait-“ Paul’s voice was cut off by the closing of the heavy church door.
you sighed as you walked back to your table, joining your friends once again.
“hey y/n, feeling better?” your friend Jordan asked. you smiled a smile that didn’t quite reach your eyes, nodding a little too fast. he didn’t seem to notice - they must not have seen Paul follow you outside. for that, you were grateful, in no mood to discuss whatever just happened.

the minecraft experience with them — various characters ☆彡
Tumblr media
summary — in the world wherein the blocks are square, the sun is square, the moon is square, everything is square, how will they live and survive?
characters — kaveh, zhongli, childe, tighnari, cyno, wanderer, alhaitham, ayato (w/ gender neutral reader)
tags — fluff, modern, just some headcanons i thought of while playing minecraft; headcanons
word count — 1137
a/n — god my heart is melting seeing my friends act like couples in minecraft.
Tumblr media
KAVEH — It’s obvious, guys, come on. He focuses on arts and the beauty of architecture and would most definitely take on the role of the builder and the designer of the world. He’s the type to build the most beautiful and extravagant house, create an underground base, and have a fully functional and pretty home that it feels literally out of the world. He consumes a lot of resources though and would spend more time gathering the things that he needs more than the time he spent on building. He’s the primary reason why the forests are bald in your world because of the amount of wooden logs he needed. There was also the time wherein a creeper came to his home and blew it up, ultimately destroying it, and he was in despair. Alternatively, if you threaten to destroy his base, hell will break loose.
ZHONGLI — The most efficient and lucky miner of all, as well as the gatherer of materials and resources. He’s the type of player to immediately venture out and look for a cave with a wooden pickaxe on hand. Nobody complains though because he’s extremely lucky at finding ores and getting the things you need early-game. Progress is easily made with him on your side because of how fast he can mine things and because of that, it feels like he’s an expert on the game even when he doesn’t play that much nor has any prior experience. Oftentimes, he’ll immediately find diamonds but doesn’t have the appropriate pickaxe to mine it but it’s not a problem however as he’ll find another one so easily. ‘I came looking for coal but found diamonds instead’ type of beat.
CHILDE — An all-rounder. He can be the miner, he can be the explorer, he can be the gatherer, he can be the farmer, and most especially, he can be the fighter. We don’t talk about his building skills though, this man would build a 5x5 house made out of wood and call it a base then reasons that this is much more effective and saves your resources. Well, whatever makes him happy, I guess. He often accompanies you wherever you go especially when you go mining as he’ll protect you from the mobs. He’s the kind of person to believe that placing a bed on nether and sleeping on it will give you a huge buff. He’s the adventurous type of player, the reckless and careless kind, and is the reason why keep inventory is switched to true.
TIGHNARI — FOOD. FOOD. RESOURCES. FARM. ANIMALS. FOOD. Food is the essence of life and is really crucial in the game. He’s in charge of anything related to farming and alike. You’ll find dozens of chests fully stacked with food and animal products, especially bread and baked potatoes. He’s the main supplier and giver of food, as well as, potions in your world. He’s the type who loves collecting flowers and has his home decorated with plants and vines because it looks pleasant and not like anyone complains because it looks good. He’s also the builder type and just one look at a reference picture for his builds, he knows how it is done even without watching a tutorial. Definitely doesn’t like spiders because of the way it looks and how it can climb up structures and invade your home.
CYNO — The fighter and bodyguard to the farm. He’ll take on the role of the protector as he protects the base and farm from creepers that threaten to approach, blow up, and destroy any form of hardwork and kill annoying skeletons that shoot at you from afar and hide underneath the shade of the tree to avoid being burnt and dying. He often uses the weapon, Trident, and would go even at the ends of the world just to attain it (since it’s a rare drop). He does whatever he is asked to and would often go explore to gather materials or get what is needed. He occasionally finds lush caves and would tell you about it, asking you to come to these specific coordinates if you can. You won’t need Iron Golems and anything to protect your home when you have Cyno.
WANDERER — Just like his name suggests, man is the player incarnation of Dora the Explorer and would rather focus on looking for those rare and hard-to-find biomes than settling in on one place. He takes days just for adventuring and sometimes it can last up to weeks or months in-game. He goes out to venture and seeks for strongholds, mansions, and villages, then once he’s satisfied, he’ll come back with good loot and hard-to-get items on hand. He pulls an uno-reverse card on enemies and would raid them, blowing up mansions and taking everything that he can. He knows how to come back to your base or wherever he came from though no matter how far it is. You really don’t have to worry about him getting lost since he understands how coordinates work and if you don’t, he’ll make fun of you for it but will teach you afterwards.
ALHAITHAM — An explorer and expert in gathering. He has tons of materials stored in his chests that he doesn’t use and only chooses to fight when he needs to but he somehow has his character on a fully enchanted diamond armor with enchanted tools, either iron or diamond. You need a stack of clay? He has it, it’s on the chest on the third column at the top. How about some cactus or snowballs? He has quite a lot of those. He also has a collection of leaf blocks and vines that you might like as decorations of your home. Of course, since he has those unnecessary things, he also has a ton of importance that are often really hard to get and find, especially the slimes. Because of this, farming and gathering wasn’t something you’ll have to think of when you play with him.
KAMISATO AYATO — Exploration? Mining? Fighting? Gathering? Farming? Building? Whatever you mention, he knows how to do it and is even good at it. He immediately becomes an expert on the game from the very first few times of playing, saying that it’s just like life itself with some weird mobs and a square world. However, he only gathers and collects precious and rare materials and items that, majority of the time, he ends up not using. He would never touch copper because he thinks that it has no use— it’s true though. He doesn’t do a lot of work and wouldn’t invest that much time in doing such trivial things and tasks so his base is mediocre, not big nor small, only made for functional and competent use, and his chests are filled with only items that are needed for late-game.

omg hi yeah i am by no means an expert in korean cuisine but i think an easy soup to make for me is doenjjang jjigae!! similar to miso, but it’s a fermented soybean paste! w some firm tofu, zucchini and potato? such a yummy filling soup!! and honestly cheap to make once you have korean cooking essentials on deck! also soondubu jjigae! at an asian market you can probably find the BCDs Soon Tofu Soup Kit, medium hot has better flavor imo! and it comes with soft tofu, and the soup base needed and you can zuch, mushrooms, and an egg if you want!! i also love just a good soybean sprout soup, souper ;) simple!! i also recommend checking out the youtuber Maangchi! she’s an icon and she’s where I first found a ton of great and straightforward Korean recipe videos!! :) cafemaddy and gleetzbapsang have some great t*ktok recipe vídeos!! (i really love korean food lol)
Oh my god this is a treasure trove!! Thank you so much!!!
I am sticking this in my recipes tag to come back to bc all of this sounds soooo unbelievably good and 100% up my alley and I think I need to make literally every single thing you mentioned lmao!!

Thank you @piipaw for tagging me! Here's a game to show off your Tav, feel free to reblog and add your own or take the layout to make your own! I have a million ideas for my guy so I'm so glad I have somewhere to put a few. (Also feel free to ask me questions if you're curious, my dms are always open)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Althea|| Drow || Druid || He/it || 127
What’s your Tav’s…
Favorite weapon: Whips. When in the Underdark Althea whips were his weapon of choice. Once Althea learned how to wield magic through the Old Faith, he grew a thorny vine and nurtured it to maturity before taking a piece for his thorn whip.
Style of Combat: Althea is used to guerrilla warfare from fighting the Loth Drow, but he prefers direct confrontations, taking wildshape and eating whoever’s in front of him.
Most prized possession: He doesn’t care much for material things so he just gives everything he finds to everyone else. He does feel accomplished seeing his companions in the things he gives them though.
Deepest desire: Althea had broken away from the Underdark and traveled alone for so long that he hadn’t given it much thought until he began to get to know everyone. Now he wants to make sure his companions are free.
Guilty pleasure: He makes a terrible Druid by most Druid standards. He’s a complete hedonist and does whatever he wants,( drinks, fucks, fights etc.) feeling that following his own base nature is true worship. He doesn’t care about any gods and has no illusions about “harmony” not implying “savagery” in some ways because everything has to eat and exists on a food chain. (That being said, he hates cruelty)
Best-kept secret: His entire past is a secret. He still has family in the Underdark who chose to remain there. He’d die before revealing anything about them.
Greatest strength: Althea’s sense of fear might be a little broken. It’s not quite bravery so much as an absence of caution, which can be great in combat but might not be so good a trait in a leader.
Fatal Flaw: He falls into caretaking everyone before realizing it. He had left his responsibilities once before, thinking he’d stay independent, but now he can’t help but pick up strays and aid every person who asks, just because he feels like he can.
Favorite Smell: Amber and cloves *wink*
Favorite spell or cantrip: Wildshape. 100%. Learning that specific magic was really the first time he felt free.
Pet Peeve: Volo. The entire man.
Bad Habit: Althea doesn’t enjoy doing one thing for too long. He lacks followthrough with a lot of plans and will just think “Bored now” and find a way out of a situation if it becomes too tedious, even if it means killing someone he had built trust with.
Hidden Talent: The man could command a small army pretty successfully if needed. He has the experience. Not his proudest talent, but it’s there.
Leisure activity: Althea will gamble any chance he gets. Gold is for gambling as far as he’s concerned. Dice, cards, tests of strength. He loves watching people play games more than he cares about winning.
Favorite drink: At some point Gale makes him a cup of sipping chocolate and his life is changed forever. He lurks around when he sees Gale cooking, hoping to get another cup.
Comfort food: Any kind of roast with potatoes and carrots. He loves to eat anything he can get his hands on but roasts are nostalgic.
Favorite person: Aside from his dog and owlbear friends, he’s growing very close to Gale and maybe falling for Astarion.
Favorite display of affection, (Platonic and/or Romantic): Romantic: Althea loves directness and straightforward honesty, but Astarion’s complicated combinations of flirtations and confessions has him fixated. He wants to take Astarion stargazing and let him calm down. Platonic: Gale’s sharing of knowledge is his favorite form of friendship. He’s never bored with what Gale has to say. He wants to show Gale all the secret little magics he’s learned living in the woods. How even smaller mushrooms can reveal secrets, or how bird eggs hold life-lines like the palms of one's hands.
Fondest childhood memory: Building little forts between giant mushrooms with his siblings and pretending they had a little house together.

frankieeee im making soup tonight for a dinner party but idk what soup to make What is your favorite soup recipe!
OOOH GOOD QUESTION. splitting this up so awkwardly bc i said so much… also full disclosure i was vegan for 5 years until a year ago so most of the soups i make nowadays are still at least vegetarian 😔 unless you don’t eat meat in which case 😄
you can never go wrong with a classic minestrone imo which is basically a broth of your choosing with whatever vegetables you have on hand (https://ricette.giallozafferano.it/Minestrone-di-verdure.html)
but i’m also a big fan of coconut milk-based soups such as https://ohmyveggies.com/thai-pumpkin-soup-recipe/
or a good chicken soup with a hefty amount of dill ❤️
i think you can never go wrong with anything that has a root vegetable base (potatoes, pumpkin, winter squashes, etc) and i love anything i can add loads of ginger to!!
some fav soups of mine are carrot and ginger (exactly what it sounds like, i roast carrots and fresh ginger with oil salt pepper and it would be mad delish with curry powder too & blend it up with broth and you could totally add cream or milk),
pastina with chicken broth and tons of grated cheese (i follow my heart when making it there’s no recipe but it’s comfort food),
oooh you could even do a broth started with sautéed zucchini in a pan (onions, some sort of cured meat if you’re a meat eater, that type of stuff) and pasta!!!
my mom did a lot of soups growing up perché siamo napoletane and that’s peasant food so OH MY GOD LENTIL SOUP. LENTIL SOUP. carrot celery onion lentils add some fresh greens once boiling maybe some chopped tomatoes…
my mom also made this awesome mushroom soup with quinoa kale spinach and cinnamon when i was sick last year and it healed me (spiritually).
escarole soup obvs http://www.christopherpless.com/recipe/zuppa-di-scarola/ also
zuppa di ceci chickpea soup was an absolute STANDARD in my house we usually didn’t blend it (whole chickpeas https://ricette.giallozafferano.it/Zuppa-di-ceci.html) but it can totally be blended too (https://www.italianfoodforever.com/2009/11/zuppa-di-ceci-creamy-chickpea-soup/)… i could go on

The Adeia - a new festival for Demeter
It's here, it's here, the Adeia is almost here!! In about 16 hours I'll be starting the festival of the Adeia as proposed by the ever lovely @thegrapeandthefig & @iliosflower . I've gone ahead and modified little bits, but the essence remains the same, which I will summarize as told by Aurora:
On a global scale, we’re dealing with a climate crisis that is putting food sources at risk. On a more local level, conflicts and abnormal weather are creating risks of bad harvests, resources shortages and/or inflations. We are aware that not everyone is impacted directly by the current ongoing issues, but we hope that this festival (or at least the idea) can be useful beyond these and be seen through a wider scope of praying for food security at large. We named the festival Adeia, from the ancient Greek ἄδεια, which conveniently can signify both “abundance”/”plenty” and “freedom from fear”/”security”. All things the festival aims for.
Who is being celebrated & invoked?
While both Demeter Soteira (the saviour) and Herakles Alexikakos (averter of evil) were originally mentioned, I will be holding this festival in honor of Demeter Soteira and Ares Karpodotes (giver of fruit) based on my praxis and personal relationships with the gods.
Offerings & Libations
I've decided to go a bit extravagant with my offerings for this as food is at the heart of this festival and if I learned anything from my Southern mom, it's that you always bring out the best food for your honored guests.
Appetizers: Figs drizzled with honey and a plate with goat cheese, apples, dolmas, and nuts Main Course: Pork Ribs (honey & brown sugar), Pork Ribs (olive oil, butter, & herbs), potato Salad, grilled whole corn, and artisanal bread loaf (not for me as I have celiac, all for Demeter!) Desert: GF honey cakes and oat milk ice cream Drinks: Cucumber-lime lemonade, mint mojitos, honey and warm milk
Rough Outline of The Adeia
Go to farmers market to buy produce, baked bread, & flowers for Demeter Soteira & Ares Karpodotes
Stop at the river on the way home & give an offering to the Potamoi (the Columbia River is the lifeblood of our valley & provides us with the water we need to survive)
Come home, start preparing food & prepare outdoor area for feast & ritual later in the evening
Visit local nurseries and buy some native plants, to be dedicated to both Demeter and Ares; specifically anything that is beneficial for pollinators given the scope of the Adeia
buy canned goods & donate to local food bank in honor of Demeter Soteira & Ares Karpodotes
Finish preparing food offerings. Light bonfire & start ritual (basically normal worship with the offerings; include the Homeric Hymn to Demeter as well as my own written devotionals)
I think that's it! I'm really looking forward to this festival and I'll have to give an update on how it went. Again, so many thanks from the bottom of my heart to @thegrapeandthefigand @iliosflower for putting in the work to create a new festival for the HelPol community that blends our ancient faith with modern problems.

Quinoa; It's Beautiful Story and Tragic History
Tumblr media
Quinoa is one of those foods that has made it's way into modern food trends. It seems to have exploded out of nowhere. It fits many diets as it's low carbs, vegan, gluten free, and a complete protein. Is this superfood newly engineered by scientists? Nope. It's actually one of the oldest staple foods of the Americas. So why isn't Quinoa as common as Potatoes and Tomatoes?
If you've never had Quinoa, it's a seed that is eaten like a grain. It's small and round, coming in a variety of colours. Tan, Red, and Black are most common. It can be ground into a flour, but it's most commonly eaten by boiling like rice. It tastes like a slightly nutty rice and I quite enjoy it. That's assuming you get the coating off.
Since I live in Canada, most Quinoa that's bought comes prewashed. This is because Quinoa has a protective coating over it to help keep pests away. This invisible coating is very bitter and soapy, thus it needs to be washed off. But this coating is one of the things that makes Quinoa so resilient. It can grow basically anywhere. Flat lands, highlands, mountains, dry lands; it's absolutely astounding how a crop this nutrient dense can grow so easily.
And the Indigenous populations of the central Americas knew this. Quinoa was the backbone of their diet. It allowed their people to thrive, their children to grow up strong, new mothers to lactate and provide milk for their young; It was a gift from the Gods. They worshiped Quinoa and regularly laid out offerings to the beings who gave it to them.
So when European colonizers first came to the Americas, they saw how important Quinoa was to the Inca locals. And they didn't like that. Some of them didn't like the religious aspect, and thought it inappropriate they were worshiping false Gods. Others saw how healthy and strong the food made them and felt threatened. So the colonizers set out to destroy Quinoa and the culture around it. They tore up fields, destroyed offerings, and placed a Ban on Quinoa eating and worshiping. It's pretty pathetic how threatened someone can feel from food, but sadly it worked. And it wasn't just Quinoa, they abolished cultures, other foods they didn't like; we are missing so much and it physically hurts me to think about.
But, we have Quinoa today. This is because Quinoa can grow anywhere so some natives took some seeds and climbed high up into the mountains. They cultivated the quinoa there and it was eaten mainly by locals. Until the 1970s when some American students of a Bolivian Mystic and Philosopher brought the grains back to the US after eating the food on the regular. A while after, it took off in popularity.
Kitchen Uses
As mentioned, Quinoa is a good substitution for rice. I actually just cook mine in a rice cooker. You always want to cook Quinoa at a 1 to 2 parts ratio. 1 part dry Quinoa to 2 parts Water (Or other liquid). You can eat it hot or let it cool and use it as a base for a salad. Try mixing it with some diced cucumbers, tomatoes, green onions, mint, parsley, feta cheese, and a little olive oil and lemon juice. Add salt and pepper to taste, easy fresh salad.
I love using Quinoa in cooking and Kitchen Magic. It has the Nick name Mother Grain and it's just so nourishing. Quinoa is great at Absorbing Negativity and Promoting Health. Since it can grow in almost any kind of environment, this promotes Adaptability, Overcoming Obstacles, and Growth. It's also known for it Abundance, Spirituality, and Fertility properties. But don't forget, it's also a seed, so New Ideas and New Beginnings. You take advantage of colour magic and black Quinoa, so not only will it Absorb the Negativity, but Also Ward and Banish.
Mythology
Finding an actual story about Quinoa has been tricky. I have found many shortened summaries of mythology and stories, but not a beat for beat retelling. Which I feel is important. But I found a video of an Andean man telling the story of how we first got Quinoa. I encourage you to watch the Video, but I'm also going to write the story down in case the Video is taken down one day. I've added in some of my own words based on the visuals used.
Tradition has it that the Aymara people used to talk to the stars. Since that time, it has been told that nearby Titicaca Lake and it's fields started producing their first crops. However, in the night, someone would come to the fields and rip up the potato plants growing there.
There was a young man who guarded the fields by the Lake. One night he wanted to surprise the potato thief. So he brought a loud hand bell with him, and stayed up through the night watching the potato fields.
It was here that several young women showed up in the fields. The young man heard someone digging up potatoes so he went to investigate. The young man stayed hidden and pushed back the tall crops to see three young women gathering potatoes.
The young man stood high and rang the warning bell. Startled, the women fled; however, one of them tripped and fell, and he captured her. It was a cold night, so the young man offered some clothes off his back to keep her warm while they waited. She smiled at him for his kind gesture.
The bell had awoken the villagers and they were on their way to get the potato thief. They sounded angry and ready to take out their rage on the potato thief. The young man grew concerned for the women, but she simply handed him back his garment.
And so it was that the young woman turned herself into a bird and flew away to where her companions, the other stars, lived. The young man was flabbergasted and couldn't explain to the other people what had happened.
The next day, he went in search of the Condor [A type of Vulture] so that it could carry him to the stars that had taken flight off the Earth. He had to climb high, high up a cliffside mountain to get to the Condor. But once there the Condor stretched his wings and became large enough to ride.
The Condor bore him to where the young star was. High up to a beautiful land covered in golden crops called Quinoa. The young man reunited with the woman star and they enjoyed each other's company, running through the fields of Quinoa.
She lived with the young man and fed him Quinoa. Yet there came a day when the young man wanted to return to the Earth to see his Parents. So he got on the Condor to fly back home. Before leaving, the star gave him Quinoa to take back to his people. Then the Condor flew off.
As the young man came back to earth on the Condor, he scattered the Quinoa as he went. The seeds planted themselves into the soil and grew into new Quinoa plants on Earth.
From then on, Quinoa has been grown in order to feed the Andean people. Yet it was unheard of by the rest of humanity. Quinoa is life. Quinoa is hope. Quinoa is the past. Quinoa is the present. And Quinoa is the future of mankind.

please talk about famine walls
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh god okay oh boy alright oh yes okay yeah here weGO i do not deserve any of you i love all of you sm sm sm
hello and welcome to ireland, 1845. there are gotdamn people EVERYWHERE. 8.5 million people are on the island, which means even in more rural/agrarian areas, it's fuckin CROWDED. we get into late summer of '45 and an gorta mór slams into ireland by way of the potato blight that had been making its way around europe. because ireland's peasant population depended so heavily on the crop as a staple food, rural farmers were hit the hardest. by 1846, when 3 million people were totally dependent on the potato for food, 3/4 of the crop failed. all in all, ireland lost a quarter of its population in just six years - due to starvation, disease, or emigration. and it still hasn't recovered! i think it's at around 7 million on the island now. one of the only places to have consistent population loss while the rest of the world's population has multiplied exponentially. an gorta mór was a time of intense suffering and poverty, especially given britain's economic outlook on the whole ordeal.
so! enter famine walls. stone walls were already a common concept in ireland - particularly in the west. they separated already bitty farms from each other, especially as families kept dividing bits of land between grown children. the land out west is rocky as all hell, so they had the doubled purpose of finding something to do with all those fucking rocks. different areas of the island have different forms of walls, based on the rocks found in the soil.
landlords and church groups created something like the public works scheme seen in the new deal from auld FDR, putting men and women to work for a little money and some food. these walls had no particular direction and served absolutely no purpose - they separated nothing from nothing, sectioned off useless land, and stretched meaninglessly up mountains and hills, winding along the countryside just for the sake of it. unfortunately, the men taking this work were already impoverished, malnourished, and weak, so the manual labor ultimately did more harm than good. plus, there was no ridding that land of stones, so the work just kept going for no reason. you can still see them winding up mountains out there, and it's a real goddamn bummer to look at.
.....i have no cheerful way to wrap this up unfortunately, but i just want to talk about ireland at all times so. here i am 💓 ty for coming to my sad little ted talk, i'll be here all night.

hello! it's fungi anon thinking about soup rn so what's your opinion on soups/stews/various other types of liquidy stuff like minestrone and broth
Hello fungi anon <3 I hope your day is going well!
Okay so like with basically everything in life I have many opinions about soups and stews etc. In general, massive fan of both, so I'll break it down to the kinds I can think of. Here is an incomplete rating:
Soups - okay there are so many soups my apologies
Chicken noodle soup - good. Wholesome. 7/10.
Chicken/turkey rice soup - absolutely astounding. Takes chicken noodle soup to another level because rice doesn't get as soggy as noodles do. 9/10.
Potato soup - the easiest, most filling soup ever. All you need is like onions and potatoes and some broth. Made even better with bacon and cheese and chives. 10/10, 13/10 if you have toppings.
Minestrone - meh. It's alright. A bit too sharp for my soup preferences. I'll eat it if it's given to me, but I would never buy it or make it on my own. 4/10.
Taco soup - this is a soup my mum made that's like chili but with taco seasoning. Brilliant. Put some lil tortilla chips on there and it's so good. 8/10.
Broccoli soup - with/without cheese, both ways is delightful. Super easy to make. Annoying to make nonetheless because broccoli is the glitter of food and gets everywhere when you cut it. 7/10 because I hate cutting up broccoli.
Pea soup - my father eats this and it looks and smells terrible. -500/10, please stay out of my house.
Mushroom soup - I don't like eating mushrooms because of texture reasons. I don't mind canned mushroom soup, but if there are real whole mushrooms in it I don't want it. 2/10.
Tomato soup - best boy. Preference is to eat with crackers or grilled cheese. Tastes like childhood lunches. 7/10.
Butternut squash soup (or pumpkin soups etc) - oh my god so so good. Perfect fall soup. Can be sweet or spicy or whatever. 12/10.
Broth by itself - so helpful for cooking, but also I would never eat plain broth. 8/10 because it's a god in the kitchen.
Stews and Chilis etc
Chili - huge fan. I have yet to meet a chili I didn't like, unless it was literally too spicy for me to eat. So easy to make, super filling, best if eaten with sour cream and fritos on top. 9/10.
Beef stew - ngl I almost never eat it, but it's alright? It's good? I like it when I have it? But also sometimes the beef gets stuck in my teeth so. 5/10.
Chicken stew - fantastic. Like a chicken pot pie in soup form. Love it. Best with dumplings. 11/10.
Clam chowder/any fish based stews or soups - hard pass. I don't like fish. -5/10, rating isn't lower because it looks very tasty even though I know it wouldn't be.
FAV SOUP EVER (gets its own category because I love it):
Ghanaian groundnut soup, eaten with rice balls as a swallow - absolutely fucking brilliant. Spicy and peanut-y and also has chicken or whatever. Peanut stews that mimic this are also brilliant. 1000/10
Thank you for coming to my ted talk this has been rating soups with hank

reunite .º*imagine*º.
what if i told you i feel like i know you but we've never met?
pairing; mcu peter parker x fem!reader
In the aftermath of which you were peter parkers girlfriend, a story of love forgotten and found.
loosely based on this song
(Found this in my drafts from a few months ago, thought I’d spruce it up and give you something until I can get Pt.2 of Limerence out!!)
Still weirded out from earlier when i found myself muttering the name Peter Parker at the destroyed statue of liberty, I made my way back home, struggling to figure out what I was doing. I walk into my home, and i’m greeted with a warm vanilla aroma. My mom comes out from the kitchen with her brown apron stained with flour.
"Sweetie where have you been?! I've been calling your phone for hours, are you alright?" She says in her english accent, still prominent, even though its died down some over the years.
"I'm... fine mom. I just uh.. needed some time." I respond
"Alright, well come eat dinner while it's still warm please, i don't want you starving!" she says back chipperly.
I walked to the table, on my plate I saw sweet potato, grilled chicken, and string beans. We’d basically eaten this every night this week. I wouldn’t complain though, it tasted pretty good.
After I finished my food I walked up the stairs to my room and pulled out a book. ‘Beach Read’ By Emily Henry. However, I couldn’t focus on the novel. All I could think about was the earlier events of the day. Who was Peter Parker, why was I saying his name, and why was the place I woke up in so destroyed??? I thought maybe a shower would get it off my mind, so I took one. Though the shower really just is a place for thoughts.
I couldn’t think of anything else no matter how hard I tried. Oh well. I need to rest. I’ve got work in the morning.
.º.*morning*.º.
I walked down the street with my tote bag slung across my arm. I had on the mandatory uniform for my job at the cafe. When I walked in I was greeted by MJ behind the counter, and Ned sitting on a stool. They both said hello with a smile. I grabbed my apron from the rack and quickly got to work on some of the orders awaiting me.
About 20 minutes after I got there, a brunette boy walked in, I vaguely knew his face, but I wasn’t sure where from. His eyes went wide when he saw me. I couldn’t help but wonder why.
“Hi, welcome in!! How can I help you today?” I said with a smile.
“Hi... I’m Peter Parker.....” The boy said. THATS Peter! The guy whose name I was muttering when I woke up!! Okay.. stay casual, did he just come in to say his name??
“...and I would like a coffee.. please.” He said hesitantly.
“Alright Peter Parker.. we’ll have that right out for you.” I said, slightly confused as to why he introduced himself to order a coffee???
While making his coffee I racked my brain for any information about him. Suddenly I realized. All of my movements stopped. I put the cup down. I turned around to face the boy behind me.
“Oh my... god... Peter.” I said shocked, slowly walking over to the counter. It was him. How could I have forgotten. Probably something to do with a certain band of superheroes.
He nodded his head and slowly moved towards me as well. I grabbed him in my arms and held him in a long overdue hug.
I whispered to him, “Why did I forget you, Pete. What happened?”
“I’ll explain later,” he said, “just hold me now.”
I didn’t say anything, just a small nod against his chest.
A few minutes later I went back to the coffee machine. I picked up the lukewarm cup of coffee and threw it out. Peter sat down at the counter. I then handed him a new cup of coffee. It was a slow day, so I was able to sit with him for a while. I knew he wouldn’t want to be alone, so I let him sit there, going to him on all my breaks. He read a book I think.
When I got off work two hours later I took off my apron and walked over to him, giving him a slight pat on the shoulder, alerting him that it was time to go. On the walk home, Peter told me about everything that happened. He said he wasn’t sure how I remembered him, but he was glad I did.
Maybe I was always supposed to. It didn’t matter now though, because tomorrow was Christmas, and now he wouldn’t have to spend it alone.

Introduction
Hi, I'm Atlas (she/they/he). I love food but due to a health condition called POTS my options are more limited. I look for ways to make food that is still good and doesn't have the things that make me feel ill. I try to make my recipes accessible (physically, financially, and locally). Since I am based in a medium to large town in the US, my access to ingredients may vary greatly than others. These are just recipes that work for me given my situation that other people with POTS may find helpful. Learn more below the cut!
What is POTS? Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a condition that causes a number of symptoms when you transition from lying down to standing up, such as a fast heart rate, dizziness and fatigue.
Water and salt are usually very important to POTS patients to help manage symptoms.
What are the rules of your diet? Not all people with POTS need to restrict their diets in the same way. We all have different triggers, though some are more common. The two most common triggers are gluten and caffeine. I only allow myself gluten or caffeine once or twice a month and when I do I drink a lot of water with it. The rest of the time, I do my best to avoid the following: - Gluten (wheat based baked goods, pasta, and packaged foods that shouldn't have wheat in them but do) - Caffeine (coffee, soda, chocolate, many teas) - Preservatives (a lot of deli meat, uncured meat, packaged meals, fast food)
What sort of food is left without those? Not a lot but also a lot. It limits me in going out to eat and it was very disheartening early in life to adjust. Not to mention it was difficult to maintain a healthy weight due to lacking options. As an adult, I have formed a lot more agency and I go to college in a larger city than the one I grew up in. My food options have diversified a lot because of that! Cities have more diverse food and it has put me in contact with foods that don't have wheat based diets! Rice, corn, and potatoes have been a god send. I am learning new ways to cook and ways that work for my health.
What about when fatigue hits? Meal prep is my friend! I cook at least two portions whenever I have the energy to cook. That way, I have food on hand when I inevitably feel too bad to hover over the stove.

I thought it would be fun to make memes based on what I’ve said at work! I’ll let you decide if this is based on animals or people.

*counting animals* “yep, all here!”
“Good morning, babies! The Earth says hello! Time to come out and play!”
“No, DON’T ATTACK HIM-“
“Go be mean to him again and I’ll carry you around like a sack of potatoes.”
“THAT INCLUDES ME-“
“I provide you food and care and love, and you respond by following me around being annoying.”
*casually carrying a duck under one arm*
“Goooooooddd morning! Did you have fun causing havoc last night?”
“Oh, stop yelling, I know you exist and your breakfast is coming-“
“YES, I KNOW, I HAVE FOOD!”
“Please don’t headbutt me.”
“Really, not in the mood for a headbutt right now.”
“YOU ASSHOLE I WAS ABOUT TO PUT IT D O W N”
“Is it possible for you to not be an asshole for two minutes?”
“We do this every morning, it’s empty. See?”
“Are you ready for your medication?”
“Oh come on. It’s really not that bad.”
“Can you just not?”
“Please stop being dramatic and take this-“
“Look, I swear it tastes good!”
“Don’t even THINK about knocking that over!”
“You knocked it over. Wow. WOOOOW. Thanks.”
“Do you think you could stop being stupid? Just one day?”
“I swear to god I’m going to quit.”
“If they even try it I’m walking, don’t test me today.”
“Nah, okay, fuck this.”
“If anyone needs me I’m going for a walk. I might not be back.”
*goes to find my emotional support goat*
“Goodnight! Don’t be stupid while I’m gone!”
