How the Pillars react to your death
Important note: all of these deaths occur during the infinity castle arc, heavy and implied spoilers. Rengoku’s reaction to your death takes place before Mugen Train! Reader’s gender is unspecified.
Warnings: this post contains spoilers for the final arc of the manga. This includes implied spoilers for various characters. Please do not read this if you don’t want to be spoiled and don’t blame me if you go ahead and read it anyways lol
A/N: I wrote this whole post in my head while showering last night and I’m honestly offended it took me 3x as long to actually write it.
Tumblr media
Giyu
“CAWWW! DEAD! KOCHO SHINOBU AND L/N Y/N ARE DEAD! THEY DIED AFTER A CONFRONTATION WITH UPPER MOON TWO!” Giyu’s body comes to a screeching halt, Tanjiro shooting past him before falling to his knees as violent sobs wracked his body. Giyu, on the other hand, is frozen in place, a sob stuck in his throat. Shinobu’s death was a punch to the gut, but you? For the first time since Sabito had died, Giyu felt tears burning at the back of his eyes. Yet, nothing would come out, those tears wouldn’t break the barrier and slip down his cheeks. His tight throat would not let the sob escape. There was no possible way you were gone, you promised him you’d be okay. Though, childish beliefs like that reminded him of his own faults. Once again, he couldn’t protect the people he cared about. Rather than wallowing in sudden grief, he began moving again, past Tanjiro who was struggling to get back up. He needed to keep moving, if he didn’t stop, he was certain he would collapse entirely and never get up again. He couldn’t let your sacrifice go to waste.
Tumblr media
Shinobu
Her feet barely hit the ground, body manoeuvring through the endless castle with one destination in mind. “CAWWW! DEAD! L/N Y/N IS DEAD! THEY DIED AFTER ENCOUNTERING UPPER MOON TWO!” She stumbles, shock hitting her like a bucket of ice water being dumped over her head. Her mind is racing, not willing to believe what the crow had just said to be true. You had steered away from the plan. In a desperate attempt to save Shinobu’s life you tried to defeat Upper Two yourself. Hot, angry tears are spilling down her cheeks, hand clutching her heart as she tries to understand. “Why would you do this? Why wouldn’t you take my word for it and go with Tomioka? Look what you did… you went and got yourself killed,” Yet again, Upper Two had taken something precious to her. One word flashed through her mind, alongside your beautiful face. Revenge. She would get her revenge, not only for Kanae, but for you. “Don’t worry, my love. I’ll be with you soon.”
Tumblr media
Rengoku
It’s quiet, too quiet even. You should be back by now, the sun has fully risen. Kyojuro’s heart is hammering in his chest, doom creeping up his spine. He has an unshakable bad feeling about your late arrival. His worst fears are confirmed when your crow arrives without you. “No…” breathless, as if all the air is being ripped from his lungs. “Don’t say it…” his knees are giving out as your crow lands on the wooden porch. “T-they’re gone…aren’t they?” he chokes it out, the words are as bitter and burning as bile. Your crow only caws, soft and full of sorrow, unable to share the proper message as Kyojuro begins to sob. He’s curling in on himself, crying so loudly but unable to hear it due to the intensity of the ringing in his ears. It’s a panic attack manifesting in the most intense form. He can’t fathom a world without you, nevermind having to live in one. Senjuro is rushing to his brother's aid, seeing your crow gives him more than enough information to know as tears well in his eyes.
Tumblr media
Tengen
He’s kneeling dutifully outside of Nezuko’s room, Shinjuro by his side. His wives are inside, too stubborn to sit out and not help at all. Their excuse being that Nezuko saved his life, they owe her the same kind of protection now. You on the other hand, were too determined, leaving your retirement to fight the battle against the demon lord himself. Nothing Tengen nor his wives said could convince you to stay on the sidelines. His heart is sinking the moment your crow appears in the distance, he’d recognize it anywhere. “N-no… don’t you dare…” Tengen’s voice is cracking as it lands, Shinjuro is turning his head the other way, knowing what is to come. “Don’t you dare say they are dead…” his voice is rising in his panic, he knows the answer. The commotion has Makio, Suma and Hinatsuru running outside. The moment Hina’s eyes land on your crow, a violent sob escapes her chest, falling to her knees as Makio and Suma come to the same conclusion. “T-they’re dead…aren’t they?!” Makio sobs, Tengen can’t raise his head as your crow delivers your final message.
Tumblr media
Mitsuri
She’s frozen in place as a crow comes directly for her, fear is ebbing through her body, a cold sweat forming on her brow. She knows the message before the crow can even utter it. “No! Go back! I don’t want to hear it!” Obanai is frozen beside her, grabbing her arm so she doesn’t collapse. The crow circles around her, cawing woefully as she begins to cry. “I-I don’t want to know! Don’t tell me!” she’s hiccupping as Obanai tries to pull her forward, they need to keep moving. “Mitsuri…” his voice is surprisingly soft, the crow is still circling overhead. “We need to hear the message…” she shakes her head, hands coming up to cover her ears as tears slip down her cheeks. The crow caws again, Obanai signals for it to deliver the message. “CAWWW! L/N Y/N IS DEAD! THEY DIED AFTER AN ALTERCATION WITH UPPER MOON ONE!” The crow continued on about who lived and who died, what was important is that upper moon one was dead. That didn’t matter to her though, no she couldn’t even hear the rest of the message over the ringing in her years. Mitsuri let Obanai tug her along, they needed to keep moving at whatever the cost.
Tumblr media
Muichiro
“CAWWW! L/N Y/N IS DEAD!” He keeps running, uncertain as to why he feels a tightness in his chest at the crow’s message. “THEY DIED DURING A CONFLICT WITH UPPER TWO!” He’s still moving, more so concerned over his unexpected and overwhelming sadness. Why am I sad? I don’t even remember that name… but then your kind smile is flashing before his eyes and the world is crashing down around him. He comes to a screeching halt, eyes wide as he finally pieces together the message. “y/n…” how could he ever forget? Before he realizes it, he’s sniffling. Tears blur his vision for a moment before he blinks them away. He begins to move again, the sadness gripping his chest is slowly fading, fading until he can’t even remember why he got teary eyed in the first place. He needs to remember the task at hand… where was he heading again?
Tumblr media
Obanai
The flapping of wings catches him off guard, head craning upwards as the crow begins to caw. The noise is full of sorrow, which can only mean it bears bad news. “Obanai…” Mitsuri is watching the animal circle above them, her heart pounding erratically at the endless possibilities of the message it may share. “CAWWW! L/N Y/N IS DEAD! THEY DIED IN BATTLE AGAINST UPPER MOON ONE!” Obanai’s feet are slowing, hitting the floor beneath him with a little too much force as the message rings through his head over and over. “N-no… oh… Iguro I…” Mitsuri is crying, staring at the man beside her as the world seems to cave in on him. It’s as if everything is in slow motion for a few beats in time. The words the crow uttered felt foreign, your name paired with ‘dead’ didn’t make any sense in his mind. It was impossible really, there was no way you were dead. You had gone to face Upper One with Gyomei, Sanemi, Muichiro… four hashira against upper One and you didn’t make it? You were so strong… no the message can’t be correct. “Kanroji… let’s keep moving.” he’s turning it off, every swelling emotion is being suppressed as he takes off again. Mitsuri is left with no choice but to wipe her tears and follow.
Tumblr media
Sanemi
Upper Moon One is standing before him, Gyomei at his side. This battle needed to be won, if not, everything would be lost. The demon before him needed to be put down, there was no other option. He’s talking, but he couldn’t be bothered to listen. Rather, Sanemi is gauging every vital point he can strike and how to go about doing it. “CAWW! I BRING A MESSAGE!” he doesn’t glace up, nothing that crow could say would be able to break his focus. “L/N Y/N IS DEAD!” except for that. Sanemi inhales deeply, eyes widening significantly as he debates on if he heard the message correctly. “THEY DIED DURING AN ALTERCATION WITH UPPER MOON TWO! UPPER MOON TWO IS NOW DEAD!” it feels as if all the air in the room had been sucked away with the crow’s flapping wings. Upper One no longer seemed smug about the message after the addition of Upper Two being defeated. Beside him, Gyomei is crying. Sanemi doesn’t realize it, but so is he. He’s oblivious to the hot, angry tears rolling down his cheeks. Still, his patience remains intact, waiting for Gyomei’s signal to attack the high ranked demon. Now, he has absolutely nothing to lose. Kagaya is gone, now you are gone, it is likely the rest of the Hashira wouldn’t make it out of this… he has nothing left to fight for.
Tumblr media
Gyomei “CAWWW! L/N Y/N IS DEAD! THEY DIED AFTER ENCOUNTERING MUZAN!” Tears flow freely as he fights, part of him wishes he hadn’t been able to hear the message in the first place. You had met the unfortunate fate of encountering Muzan himself. It was likely that you were alone, if you weren’t, you were likely the strongest in your group. It pained him, knowing you likely died a brutal death. That pain fueled his attacks, taking every ounce of heartbreak and despair out on the demon before him. You didn’t deserve that, nobody deserved a fate that cruel. He keeps moving, mind reeling yet completely focused. It’s as if he is fighting in a bubble, the world muffled around him yet perfectly clear all at once. Too many emotions are raging through his soul to really pinpoint just one of them. He can only hope you’ll wait for him on the other side, he can only pray you’re watching over him at this very moment. Guiding him, giving him strength. “I’ll meet you again soon, don’t worry. I promise I won’t keep you waiting much longer. Wait for me, please? You will, won’t you?”

“no no no, stay with me please,” giyu pleaded as he pressed on your wound, blood soaking his fingers. you were breathing heavily, looking up at your beloved in despair. “giyu please don’t forget me,” you say putting your hand on his cheek and his eyes widen. “don’t say that, the kakushi are almost here, you’re going to be okay,” he silently curses the kakushi for not coming to his lover’s aid.
“giyu my time is almost up, so please, let’s not panic,” you wearily smile, dizzy from all your blood loss. giyu grips you harder as he sees the look on your face. “thank you for the happiest years of my life, you have been nothing but special to me,” you tell him, preparing for your departure. “i don’t want you to go,” the once stoic man says with tears bubbling in his eyes. “i hope we’re both born into a world without having to fight demons,” you sniffle, knowing that in just a couple minutes you’d be dead.

Ì m裏 ¥ðµ - G掠 †ðmïðkå x Gñ RêåÐêr
Warnings: Angst, swearing, descriptions of gore, reader was killed during battle, Giyu finding the grieving process tough.
Requested by: No one
Synopsis: Giyu couldn’t save you in battle against an upper rank. When news breaks out about your death and your brother figure (Obanai) finds he's pissed.
Extra: This has been in my draft for fucking ages and I'm glad that I can finally get it out! I may or may not of kinda teared up while writing this too...
Tumblr media
"You could have protected them! Because of you they're dead...you could've saved them you useless bastard! I don't believe we've lost another!" Obanai yelled.
"O-Obanai, p-please," Mitsuri cried out, trying to hold back the serpent pillar, "(Y/n)'s gone...there's nothing we can do." Giyu looked at the 2 other pillars before him, his emotionless facade slowly breaking. Fresh tears started trickling down his cheeks, he felt useless, he felt like a total failure. It was true that he could of protected you, but he was stupid enough to get injured in battle and you were stubborn enough to go out on your own.
"Because of you y/n is gone! Honestly and here I thought you couldn't be any more pathetic. You're fucking useless, you always have been! For fuck sakes Giyu now the demon slayer corps is down yet another hashira and a god damn strong one at that!"
As Obanai continued to yell profanities at him, the water pillar began to zone out. He couldn't be bothered to put up with any of this, he just lost you, the pain still coursed throughout him.
"If y/n wasn't able to defeat that upper rank, even with you present then what hope is there for the rest of us," the serpent pillar muttered under his breath so no one but him could here - grief had began to strike his seemingly stone cold heart.
Regret and anguish surged throughout Giyu's entire being. He began to grow numb and accustomed to the constant yelling and berating that came from Obanai's mouth.
"Did you seriously expect me to not care?!" Giyu clenched his fist, "Of course I would! Did you not think about how much pain I'm going through currently as well? You're not the only person who misses them you bastard don't you dare think that you are for one second!" Giyu screamed.
"After what happened nothing but guilt and hatred has been eating me alive! Y/n was my world, I loved them Iguro! I vowed that I would protect them forever, especially after what happened to my family and loved ones but I failed! I failed alright?! I know I'm a useless, good for nothing bastard..."
The water pillar had fell to his knees and sobbed into his hands and all Obanai could do was stare. Mitsuri's hand had left her significant others shoulder and she walked over to Giyu, "Tomioka, please...you didn't fail them. The only way you will fail y/n is if you continue to berate and hate yourself any further, I know that they would want you to live a life that is filled with joy, ridden of fear and a one full of promise...trust me."
xxx
Later that night Giyu grew restless and images of your cold lifeless body flashed in his mind. The way your tortured screams were torn from your throat as the upper ranked demon ripped you to shreds and tasted your flesh was an unruly and terrifying sight...what made it worse was that less experienced and much younger demon slayers were present during the scene. The sounds and images were fixed into his mind, he could never possibly forgive himself for what he let that demon do to you.
Giyu rose from his futon and stepped out onto the engawa of the home that you both had shared. He sat down and looked up at the night sky with his once again teary ocean blue eyes.
He remembered with a mixture of both sadness and fondness when you both would spend your nights gazing at the constellations. You would lay your head on his lap (or vice versa) and point out every constellation that littered the sky.
"God, I'm so useless." Giyu whispered.
He sat under the night sky for a few hours reminiscing more of the joyous moments you both shared together. You brightened his life, you were always there for him when he had the darkest days and in a way you were his salvation; he never got to thank you for saving him...from danger, from his demons, even from himself!
After a while Giyu grew drowsy he wasn't too sure if it was simply because of the time he had stayed up to or because of his on going low mood, but never the less he decided to drag himself back inside and over to his bedroom where he would sleep with a tear stained pillow.
xxx
Early in the morning Giyu got dressed in his demon slayer uniform and headed out. Yet he wasn't going off on a mission - at least not just yet.
He walked for about half an hour until he came to his destination, which was your grave. You were buried among thousands of other demon slayers, but you were specifically buried next to your best friend Kyojuro Rengoku.
Giyu knelt in front of Kyojuro's and your's graves and sighed, "Why does everyone I care about always leave me?" He looked at the wording that was engraved your gravestone and ran his fingertips over it.
"Y/n it's only been a few days since that brutal event but it feels like a decade. I-It should have been me who was in your place. I w-wish there was a way t-to swap our places."
"I know that you'd want me to go on and live a happy and fulfilling life but I don't know if I can do that without you! I miss you y/n! I miss you so so very much."
The tears appeared again and Giyu harshly wiped them away with the sleeve of his haori. He then reached out into his pocket and pulled out a ring, "I didn't even get to ask you."
Once he placed the ring that he had planned to present to you and ask if you'd accept his hand in marriage on your grave, he stood up and made his way to the demon slayer corps where he would await his next battle hoping that it would be his last and he could see you again.

You opened your eyes to see you were in a dark and damp cave maybe. Some sort of underground room with torches lining the walls. And you were seated on the cold ground.
What the fuck? You thought to yourself.
Then you gasped and tried to stand.
The kids! Were they here? Are they okay?
As you tried to push yourself up from your knees you stumbled, your head suddenly spinning.
"Oh, hello there. I see that you're awake. I was hoping to talk to you my sweet girl." A voice drawled slowly, the sound of footsteps echoing through the large space.
"What do you want?"
"You sweet girl." He chuckled. When he came into view you were shocked.
Was this a human?
He looked so normal. The only thing hinting that he wasn't was the vivid red color of his eyes. Glowing even in the dark pathway from which he emerged.
You raised your hand with the intention of killing him when his laugh, loud and piercing, broke through.
"Please, give it a rest. That won't work here."
You continued trying. You couldn't take the word of something that didn't want to die, it would say anything.
He walked right over to you and kneeled down in front of you, intertwining his fingers with yours. Horrified you tried to pull away from him but he overpowered you, keeping your hand firmly grasped in his.
"Isn't it the best? You can't hurt me at all." He giggled. "Well, if you could get me into the sunlight. Or could cut my head off, but you're too weak for that." His laugh pierced your ear drums. It sounds like glass breaking.
"Sweet girl, tell me, what is your name?" He asked after his laughter slowed to a stop.
You didn't respond. There's no way he thinks you would ever tell him.
"My, that's not nice. But it's okay. We have time. A lifetime." He smiled. "Yours." He added before kissing you on your lips.
You pulled back but it didn't matter. He was quick enough that you didn't have a chance to react until it was too late.
He laughed as he stared at your face intently.
"I can feel it. See it almost. Your blood rising to your cheeks."
His other hand came up to rub your cheek. His touch was so gentle, almost as if he was afraid his touch could break you.
"Please, let me go." You pleaded with him quietly.
"Oh I can't do that. You belong to me; why would we ever separate?" He giggled.
"Please. I need to get back."
"You don't. I'll give you all that you could ever need down here. What is that you want?"
You shook your head, ignoring the pain you felt with the movement.
"Please."
"Ohh." He cooed in mock sympathy. "I'm sorry."
Out of frustration you clenched your jaw, trying to find a way out.
He gripped your face, tightly, painfully.
"Don't look at me like that way sweet girl. It will make our time together unpleasant." He stated in his sickeningly sweet voice.
"Now tell me about yourself. I do like to hear stories while I'm enjoying a meal."
He kissed your fingertips one by one, not even slowing when you tried to push him away with your free hand.
Your attempts were futile, he didn't budge as you pushed.
When you felt a prick on your finger followed by a slightly buzzing feeling starting in your hand then moving up to your arm you blanched, realization of what he was doing suddenly kicking in.
You began to feel weaker and weaker as the buzzing feeling spread further through your body. You could only watch as he sucked your blood rather quickly from your finger.
————
"You're back sweet girl." The demon smiled at you. "How was your slumber?"
Of course you didn't respond, but this didn't phase him as he continued the conversation for you.
"I really do enjoy watching you sleep. You looked so peaceful despite your body being on full alert."
"I got carried away again and your body, your mind, stopped me from accidentally killing you. Thank goodness because I don't know what I would've done if I lost you so soon. It would be such a waste of your divine nourishment." He covered his mouth as if he was holding back a laugh.
Atleast that power still worked. He couldn't kill you. Now you just needed to figure out how you would kill him.
"I'll be back with food and water for you. Hopefully you'll like to chat then."
He pushed away from where he was leaning against the wall then walked down the long darkened tunnel ahead of you.
As soon as he was out of your sight you tried to stand. Your limbs were weak so it was a struggle but you did it. On wobbly legs, you walked forward, trying to make it down the long dark corridor as it was the only entrance to the space you were in.
Ahead of you, you didn't see even a trace of light. Just darkness stretching on and on. As you slowly ventured forward, you noticed to your right was another tunnel. Far ahead you could make out light from a single torch in the wall. You started down that path as quickly as your trembling legs would allow you. Passing the first torch, you could see that another large space was just up ahead. It couldn't have been the way out but you were still going to move forward.
Inside this large space it looked like someone lived here. A bed was placed near the back wall, there was even a dresser here. There was a table with pillows surrounding it and in one corner was a small space cut out to give privacy for the makeshift toilet in the ground.
This was someone's room.
Before you could turn around your head began pounding. The room began spinning and suddenly you were falling. Unable to orient yourself.
"Oh sweet girl. You've wandered too far. You're not strong enough to explore your new home. You need to replenish first."
You couldn't speak to insult him or to protest. You could hear him walking around but you couldn't guess what he was doing. Your face was smushed into the ground and you couldn't even pick it up. When you felt his arms sliding beneath you to lift you from the ground you couldn't push away either. He carried your weight like it was nothing before he sat you down on one of the large pillows around the table. Your body slumped forward against the table as you were unable to hold yourself up.
"Oh my. It looks like I'll have to feed you." A small giggle left his mouth as he positioned himself behind you. When you felt that you were leaning against him you wanted to vomit. The idea of needing help from the demon who captured you made you sick to your stomach.
When he reached forward to the table and brought food closer to you, his other arm tightened around your waist, preventing you from falling forward. He picked up the chopsticks and then grabbed a piece of the grilled chicken before bringing it up to your lips. You weakly opened your mouth to accept it, your body moving on its own need. You couldn't refuse the food even if you wanted to. You needed it.
Chewing weakly and slowly you finally finished the small piece of chicken. Next he brought a piece of radish up for you. He held on to it tightly allowing you to take the bite of it you could. He remained silent, saying nothing at all no matter how long it took for you to finish something. He didn't speak until he felt that you could hold your own body up, feeling you try to pull away from him.
"Slow down sweet girl. You'll set yourself back if you try to do too much too fast."
You stopped pulling away from him when you noticed you couldn't even lift your arms yet. Just a little more and you'll be able to put some space between you.
"Can you speak yet?"
You opened your mouth to speak but only found yourself sighing. It's like your body was too tired to even try.
"That's okay. Eat some more." He said before bringing more food up for you.
When you finished everything entirely he commended you.
"There you go sweet girl. You did a great job." He drawled slowly.
He stood up from the ground and crossed to the other side of the table to pick up the cup of water that he purposely kept away from you.
"Now, come get this cup dear."
Slowly, you moved to stand, planting your foot firmly on the ground and your hands on the ground to push yourself up. When you were standing you had to pause as you felt yourself wobble a bit.
When you were steady you took slow steps towards him. You extended your hand silently asking for the cup, but he shook his head.
"No you have to come closer."
You took the few steps needed to get closer to him. You lifted your hands to take the cup from him which he allowed you, letting go fully when your hands surrounded the cup.
"Good girl." He cooed, as he watched you drink the water.
"More." You stated when you finished.
"Unfortunately that's all you get for now. But with your cooperation and good behavior, I may be able to give you more later." He took the empty cup from you and sat it down.
"Ready to talk?" He asked as a small smile appeared on his face.
It startled you as it was human like. There was no malice behind it, no cruelty, no hatred or hunger. It was a normal smile.
Slowly you nodded your head.
Silently, he walked over to the bed and sat on the edge. He looked at you expectantly but you remained in your spot. He let out a small laugh.
"So where do you want to begin?"
"Are you the reason I keep getting headaches?"
He nodded his head.
"How?"
"Well my dear, it's my blood demon art. With very small particles, I can intoxicate my victims. You can't even see them." He giggled.
"Okay." You nodded once. You remember getting a really bad headache before bed. "So these particles can go anywhere?"
"Yes. There's nothing that can stop them. Not even your little barrier."
Your eyes widened. "Did you try to enter my house?"
"I did." His smile slipped from his face. "I couldn't even touch it. Couldn't break the door or even a window."
Thank the heavens, you thought. You never knew for certain that your barrier could keep demons out until now.
"So how did you get me out?"
His smile appeared again. Calm, peaceful.
"I'll keep that to myself for now. We're not ready for that discussion just yet."
You had an idea. His reluctance to tell you was hint enough.
"Why won't you just let me go since you know that you can't kill me?"
"Sweet girl. That's simply not something I do. It would be a waste."
You stared, waiting for him to continue. That can't be all he has to say about that.
Noticing you waiting he laughed lightly. "So I have a very strong attraction to a certain type of blood. There's regular human blood and flesh, and then there's this....powerful, sweet, intoxicating and euphoric blood and flesh that belongs to humans that have a little something special."
"You my dear, have it. The best I've ever had. You're magical." He cut himself off with a higher pitched laugh. "I've heard about people like you a few decades ago. I thought there could be no way there's humans with special powers, but I was wrong, for here you stand before me. Tell me my dear, where do you get your abilities from?"
You remained still. Not knowing whether you should tell him that you didn't know or not.
"Well?"
"That's not something we're ready to discuss right now." You answered.
His eyes widened in surprise before he broke into a loud gleeful laugh. "Oh sweet girl! You may be my most cherished companion yet."
"There are others?"
"Oh no no no. Always only one. One at a time. It can get....dangerous otherwise."
"How so?"
"For starters, eventually jealously can get the better of you humans. You don't like to share. Further, mixing different essences can- oh dear, silly me. You don't need to know that." He said.
"Try another question." He offered.
"How long do you plan on keeping me here?"
"You know the answer to that question." He replied.
You did know. Despite that, you still felt dread inside and your heart breaking at the prospect of never seeing the kids and Giyu again.
"Please." You began to cry. "I-I can't stay here, I-I-"
He stood from the bed and walked over to you quickly, making you stop talking.
"You what? You have someone? Something?" His eyes were narrowed as he lowered himself down to look directly in your eyes. His hand coming up to grip your chin when your eyes lowered. "Why can't you stay? Hm?"
"I just.....liked my life." You weren't stupid enough to mention why. He didn't have to tell you for you to know that it would put them all at risk if he knew they existed. If you had people you loved out there, you were going to be more difficult to control.
"Why?" He pressed.
It was a stupid question really, but you didn't say anything about it. You shrugged as an answer.
He stared at you for a while before laughing. "You have a garden. Is that why? I can find something for you to do. You can get a new hobby."
"I like the sun." You replied.
He laughed so much louder. The sound like glass shattering. "That's one you'll definitely have to get over."
"So I'm supposed to just stay down here?"
"Precisely."
"Wouldn't that affect the way I taste?"
"No." He laughed. "Not even a little bit." He finally let your chin go. "I am not opposed to letting you go out during the day, and lowering the frequency of which I feed, but that only happens when I know that you're mine. When you've committed yourself to being my companion then you can do almost anything you want, go anywhere you want, as long as you come back to me."
Maybe if you were alone that wouldn't be so bad, but it sounded awful to you. You would have had to been broken, depressed, and probably desperate to be okay living a life as someone's blood bank.
You wanted to tell him it sounded awful but you weren't sure you should anger him.
Wait!
That's it!
If you anger him, you'll be able to kill him. He has no intention of killing you so that may be why you couldn't when you tried. Your only chance would be to anger him to the point where you weren't worth being his companion or to be conscious when he lost control like he mentioned earlier. It would be a brief opening to kill him. You had to try. Escaping would be out of the question, so this was your only shot.
"So you're telling me that people willingly stayed here with you?" You asked.
"Yes."
You snorted. Purposely to be obnoxious. "Why? Did you buy them things?"
"They wanted to be with me."
Another snort. "What for? No offense." You added feigning innocence.
"I'm quite pleasing. In more ways than one."
Of course you snorted again. "I doubt it."
His eyebrows raised briefly. "You mean to insult me?"
"Just my opinion." You shrugged.
He took a step back from you, observing you. Eyes darting over every inch of you he could see.
Then he began laughing.
"If you mean to anger me, you'll have to do much better than that. Opinions such as that, in regards to my capabilities no less, would never suffice to bother me."
"I wasn't trying to anger you. I was just sharing my thoughts." You lied.
"Okay." He laughed. "Get some rest. In just a couple hours I'll need more from you." He turned to leave, walking away without a glance back.
You took the time to sit and try to find a tactic for angering him. Besides being a nuisance when he tried to feed on you, you couldn't come up with anything. You would have to talk to him more if you wanted to hit him deep enough for him to snap.
When two hours were over, he walked into the space. "Hello sweet girl are you ready?" He asked stopping beside the table you were sitting at.
"No!" You answered quickly before getting up and stomping over to the wall. Your back towards him.
He laughed lightly. "What do you need? You want to talk a bit more?" He asked.
"Maybe." You nodded pretending to think about it. "I just....what's in it for me? Why do I have to help you with nothing in return?"
"What if you do get something in return? Companionship is a two way street. I'll be living for you just as you for me." He answered calmly.
You didn't have a reply for that. He didn't seem even a little bit irritated. You only nodded your head. You were going to shift your tactic a little.
"Would you like to lay down or sit down before you get weaker sweet girl?"
You shook your head no.
"Okay." He closed the distance between you stood directly behind you.
You held your hand out for him but he very gently pushed it away. "Can't do it the same way so soon." He answered.
Oh, you thought.
"How about here?" He asked pointing to your left arm just above your elbow.
"Okay." You replied.
You watched him closely as he lifted your arm to his lips and placed a soft and tender kiss there before slowly biting down and breaking skin. It was a sharp pinch followed by a dull ache. It was much more noticeable than the first time as he sucked the blood out of your body through this space on your arm. When your legs began to give out he wrapped one arm around you to hold you up.
Now was the perfect time to try and anger him. You pushed at his chest and shook your head. "No, no, stop. I can't do this. It hurts." This wasn't a lie, it did hurt but it wasn't unbearable.
He unlatched himself from your arm and let you pull away from him.
This was it. He would get upset that you interrupted him and you'll have your chance. You watched his eyes carefully, waiting for your opening.
To your surprise it never came. In fact his were softened, despite him just feasting on your arm moments ago.
"I don't want to hurt you. I'm sorry." He said. His fingertips reaching out to softly touch your cheek.
You probably looked crazy as your mouth hung open and your eyes were as big as saucers.
He gripped your arm where he bit, applying pressure and raising it above your head against the wall.
You were absolutely flabbergasted. You remained silent. There were no words and nothing you could do. You were frozen with surprise.
"I'll come back later with food. Something special." He told you after your bleeding stopped. When he turned to walk away you slid down the wall until you reached the floor. You had to come up with a new tactic.
The next 3 times he came back you insulted him, you called him names, you hit him before he touched you, you bit him, you screamed at him. You did so much and all it did was sadden him.
Saddened.
That's it.
He was hurt when you called him names, internally wounded when you hit him, and silent when you screamed at him. He did not get angry. When you said stop, he stopped. If you didn't, he continued.
By the 4th time he came back to you, you were exhausted. You were mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausted. He had taken blood from you 5 times already, and you didn't have the energy to fight back. You had been able to keep track of the time, knowing that it was approaching 24 hours since you've been gone. The kids were probably so worried. They may have thought you were dead and it made you feel awful inside.
You wanted to beg him to let you get back to them but you were terrified of putting them in danger. He already knew where you lived so he could go straight there. He couldn't get inside but could he lure them out the way he had done with you? You didn't know but you never were going to find out.
You missed them so much. Since knowing them you've never been away from them for more than 8 hours. While it was hard on you, it had to be harder on them. It was breaking your heart just to think about them.
You hoped they were okay. You hoped they ate. The thought seeming silly right after you thought it. Kylo and Rainbow would never allow that. They stay on top of food, even on top of your eating habits. They would be fine. They were smart and resourceful. They'd be okay without you. They'd go get help too.
From Giyu.
Giyu.
You missed him too. So, so much.
There were tears falling from your eyes as the nameless demon took his fill of your blood. It was a weirdly intimate position you were in as he sat between your legs, drinking from beside your ankle. Before getting started he told you that it was the last place he would be able to take from you that wasn't very intimate in the coming days. You only vaguely listened as you didn't even want to know what he meant.
After, he lingered, talking to you and wiping your tears as you silently cried missing your family.
He promised it gets easier if you two got to know each other, that over time he would drink from you less, but it was important for bonding to do it so often in the beginning. He promised that it would go down from 6 times a day to just 2 then eventually 1. He even pleaded with you to help him make it easier. The sooner you gave in to him the better things would be for the both of you.
The more he talked to you the more you recognized what he meant when he said that he was pleasant in more ways than one. If he wasn't a demon taking your blood, claiming your life as belonging to him, he may seem nice. You weren't disillusioned enough yet to look past that fact but you could imagine that after a year, maybe two, his victims did grow fond of him. Though it would be a forced bond from trauma coercion and fear he may seem like a good companion.
You hoped you never had to find out. By some miracle you hoped to kill him. You couldn't run because he knew where you lived, he already had some type of hold on you with being able to manipulate you without you knowing, you would never be free unless he was dead.
————
"Goodmorning Sweet girl."  That voice that had grown grossly familiar to you called from the table in the room.
Your stomach grumbled loudly as the smell of the warm food wafted to your nose.
"Are you able to get up?" He asked you.
"Yeah." You answered before you knew. You didn't want his help anyway. You threw your legs over the bed and when your feet touched the floor you wobbled, but you didn't fall. You took your time making it to the table. Falling heavily on the pillow, you situated yourself in front of the food and wasted no time in scarfing it down.
He laughed. His normal sounding laugh.
"Sweet girl, you make it look so good. I'm also happy to see you able to feed yourself."
You hadn't noticed until he mentioned it, but it was the first time of the 4 times he brought you food, that you were strong enough to use your arms.
"Would you like to take a bath today?"
Yes was right at the tip of your tongue but you stopped yourself. "Not if you want me to."
He laughed again. The piercing glass shard one.
"My darling girl, you're full of spunk! I do not care whether you choose to bathe or not however."
Scoffing, you rolled your eyes. "You're probably lying, but whatever. I do want to take a bath."
"Then a bath you shall have. I'll make sure it's nice and warm for you." He replied before walking out.
You were finished eating and had drank the two cups of water he gave you when he came back.
"Ready?" He asked with a smile on his face.
"Sure." You answered.
He led you across from the tunnel that lead to the room you had been staying in, down another longer one. When you finally made it, you could see the room was similar to the other but this one had a wooden bath tub and a door to cover the toilet.
You could see bubbles and steam coming from the small soaking tub.
"How did you get the water to be so hot?" You asked absently.
"My little secret." He giggled.
"Why do you giggle so much?"
"Does it bother you?" He covered his mouth, holding back another small laugh.
"No. Not the giggle."
"So there is one that bothers you?"
"Yes."
He laughed loudly. The normal one.
"I'm sorry my sweet girl."
Looking away from him, you eyed the bath tub.
"I'll leave you to it. There's a towel on the bed." He said before turning on his heel.
"Wait." You called out.
He turned back around to look at you.
"What's your name?"
He smiled. If he wasn't holding you captive here, it might've been cute.
"Hiroto."
You nodded.
"I don't suppose you would like to share yours?" He cocked his head to the side, his eyes piercing into yours hopefully.
Hell he knows what you taste like and the only way you'll be free is if he's dead, so what does him knowing your name do? It won't cause any harm, you thought to yourself.
"Y/N."
"I love that. Enjoy your bath y/n."
"Thanks." You mumbled watching until he disappeared.
You quickly got undressed and into the tub, wanting to wash off all of yesterdays torture. The hot steamy water didn't bother you, in fact you welcomed it. Symbolically burning away all that happened. The areas that were bitten into were pulsating, making you frown. Your middle finger, your arm, your left wrist, your right knee, above your left ankle, and the bottom of your right foot.
You sunk lower into the tub, until the water stopped just beneath your nose and then you began to cry.
Why was this happening to you? Why? Why you? Why!
As the kids faces came rushing into your mind you cried harder, letting a scream out beneath the water.
When you came up you were choking on your own sobs, trying to muffle them so Hiroto wouldn't hear you.
You cried and cried and cried until you couldn't anymore. You grabbed the small loofah that was sitting on the edge of the tub and scrubbed every inch of your body roughly. Ignoring the burning, ignoring the pain you were causing your self.
You only stopped when your fingers cramped. Dropping the loofah in frustration you let out a breath as you sat back against the tub.
10 minutes later and you got out. You grabbed the towel from the bed and dried off slowly. There was a small robe on the bed too but it was very short. When you put it on it stopped just right below your privates. You sighed in annoyance at how exposed you were, swallowing down a sob that wanted to escape knowing that this was going to be your life now.
You took your time walking back to the other room. Stopping in the large dark tunnel you looked to your right. That was where you came from yesterday. Turning your head to look back ahead of you was the room you've been in. Your room you suppose. Looking to the left there was only pure darkness. Still. This worried you considering that it was a new day. Before you could walk that way Hiroto's voice called for you.
"Y/n, it's time my sweet girl."
Dread filled your chest and you let out a shaky breath. Willing yourself not to cry, you walked forward. Inside he was leaning against the bed.
"How was your bath?" He smiled.
"Fine."
"Good. How do you feel?"
"Fine."
"Have you been crying?"
"No."
He made a face at you, it was almost a pout but not really.
"You're lying."
You shrugged your shoulders.
"Why ask if you know the answer." You replied.
"I think someone needs a nap." He said.
The way he said it caught your attention. It was almost monotone. He has not spoken in this tone once before now. What did this mean?
Was he upset?
You wanted to push but you would wait and see.
Instead you just asked him how he felt so you wouldn't waste your energy trying to upset him again just for it not to work.
"Are you angry with me?"
"No. Sweet girl I'm just thinking that's all."
"About what?"
"About how you'll respond..."
"To what?"
He didn't answer you. He just gestures for you to come forward. Willing your tears to stay back, you obeyed.
When you reached him he took your hands in his. "Today I told you would be different. I can recommend areas that are a little less intimate than others but ultimately it will be up to you. You know what parts of you I have not touched yet."
You tried to keep your face neutral, void of any emotion you were really feeling. When he touched your shoulder you nodded. "Start there."
"Okay." He replied before gently sliding your robe sleeve down. He held onto you in a way to ensure your robe wouldn't fall to which you were grateful for, despite the irony of the situation.
When he finished he adjusted your sleeve back over for you. You were weakened but not as bad a he left you yesterday.
"Thank you my sweet girl, would you like to lay down?
"Yes please." You replied quietly holding yourself up as best you could.
You allowed him to lift you onto the bed where you laid on your back.
"I'll see you soon. We can talk after my dear."
"K." You mumbled.
When he was gone you allowed yourself to cry, knowing it would get worse from here.
The next time he took from your neck. You hated it and it felt like you were betraying Giyu. You had to hold onto Hiroto's shoulders because he told you it would hurt if you slipped or moved too much. You held onto him tightly while he had his arms wrapped tightly around your waist, insisting you sit on his lap that way he could help you sit still. He wasn't wrong when he said it would hurt if you moved. You felt pain immediately when you had tensed up at the bite. You had to bite your lip to keep from whimpering about the pain. You let yourself rest on him, willingly in an effort to make sure you didn't feel the pain again.
The third time he took from your lower belly but all the way over to the side. He brought you food before this one.
The fourth time was horrible, he took too much and you still could not kill him. It shattered all the resolve you had left when you fought to stay conscious and it did not work in your favor at the end. Additionally he took from your thigh, much too intimate, too personal and way too close for comfort.
The fifth time you were numb. It was also the most painful one you experienced yet. It was your right breast that he took from. You didn't expect for the pain to increase exponentially the way that it did. Not sure if it was because of the proximity to your heart or not you tried not to cry, but you did. You had to ask him to stop, and like yesterday, he did. He listened, and immediately pulled away. He promised that the last one of the night wouldn't hurt you at all, and that you would choose the area.
"I'm sorry that I hurt you sweet girl." He cooed before brushing your cheek with his fingertips. "Try to sleep before the next one." He encouraged before leaving the room.
This time you cried when he left. You didn't like that. You hated them all but you hated that one the most. It felt horrible and it reminded you of the extreme situation you were in. How you were trapped here. How he had already changed your life forever. You silently cried yourself to sleep.
When you woke up he was standing at the end of the bed. His arms were crossed and his face was neutral.
You lifted your head to look at the table, knowing that he was supposed to bring you food. You felt better when you saw it sitting on the table.
"How'd you sleep?" He asked.
"F-fine."
There was a tension in the air and it was making you uncomfortable.
"Are you okay?" You asked him. You were asking for your own safety.
He laughed. A fake laugh. A new one. It was low and sinister.
"I asked you, if you had someone, or something."
You froze. He was mad. Definitely this time. Quickly and discreetly you tried to kill him with the quick wave of your hand but it didn't work.
He wasn't mad enough to want to kill you.
"You said no."
"I-I don-"
"Don't lie to me." He said through clenched teeth.
"I-I'm not."
"Oh yeah? Then who is Giyu?"
Your heart dropped to the floor.
Hiroto's eyebrows raised expectantly.
"I don't know anyone named that." You lied.
"So why were you begging for 'Giyu's' forgiveness in your sleep?"
Oh no. Oh no. This couldn't be happening.
"I don't r-re-call anyone with t-that name being i-in my dream." You answered.
"Oh how convenient for you." He sneered.
He grabbed your ankle and yanked you down to the edge of the bed.
"Show me."
"What?"
"Show me your thoughts right now."
How did he know you could do that? You never talked about your abilities with him.
"I know about people like you, you better show me right now or I'll make you regret it."
You were frozen in your spot. Frozen with fear, frozen with dread. You didn't know the extent of what he could do. What if somehow he saw Giyu even if you didn't think of him? What if he could find your memories of him. You couldn't let him see your thoughts. You couldn't risk it.
He grabbed you by the back of your head and dragged your face to his. Your foreheads touching.
"I will not ask again."
He couldn't kill you, and he couldn't hurt Giyu if he didn't know what he looked like.
"I don't know a Giyu." You cried. "Please, it was just a dream. Please." You cried profusely.
You could not let him in your head.
Your head started to hurt, so much so that you could feel it in your ears.
"Show me your thoughts before I make you! And if I have to do it you're not going to like it." He spoke to you so menacingly as he held you against him.
How could you be so stupid. He lured you out of your house without you knowing, he made you physically leave your house, he took over your mind, of course he could find out who Giyu was if he really wanted to.
You had to show him something. You had to.
You held your hand out as you cried.
"I'm sorry I lied before. I just didn't want you to be mad. I really d-don't have anyone, I just ha-had a crush on him. He doesn't even know who I am."
"If you are lying to me I'm going to kill him. I'm going to make him watch you be marked by me, and then kill him." He said this as he looked directly into your eyes. His glowing and blazing with an unspeakable hatred and rage.
Your blood ran cold at his threat.
"You don't have to. You don't have to worry about him. I promise.
"You better prove it! Because I'm not going to sit here and let someone think they can take what's mine! You're mine! Mine! You belong to me! You don't get to think about anybody else and they don't get to think about you! I'll kill him! I'll kill him! I'll kill him!"
"Hiroto please." You began, trying to calm him down once more.
He growled and your headache grew stronger. His hand clamped down on yours finally. Fighting through the pain threatening to disorient you, you kept your thoughts of Giyu hidden. Also keeping memories of the kids back. You allowed your random memories and recognition of faces to sit freely. All vendors from town.
A low menacing growl sounded from Hiroto's chest.
Suddenly you felt your memories of Giyu being pulled.
You gasped, your eyes immediately narrowing  with the physical effort you had to exert to keep them hidden. However, with how intense your headache grew, you weren't able to keep them separate.
"I'll kill him! I'll kill him! I'll kill him!" Hiroto said, his voice getting louder and louder.
"No please!" You cried. Your hand trembling as you gripped his hand in both of yours, not wanting him to move.
"You lied!"
"I'm sorry!" Your voice broke as you continued to cry.
He was silent for a few seconds before he spoke again.
"We're doing this now. You don't get to eat and you don't get water until you commit yourself to me."
You nodded your head quickly.
"Now choose. Quickly! You've worn my patience."he told you pulling his hand from yours.
You had no control over the copious amounts of tears that flooded your eyes and rolled down your face. You've been dreading this. You knew it was coming but nothing could ever prepare you for it.
"I said quickly." He hissed.
You pulled your hands from his and touched your lips. You couldn't bring yourself to say it.
"Hmph." Came his gruff reply. "Fine. Stop crying."
He answered.
You nodded as you wiped your tears away. It was no use though. Your tears kept coming.
Hiroto sighed in frustration.
"Sorry." You mumbled as you continued wiping your face.
When your face was dry, you sat up straighter. Tension and fear coursing through your body, only growing stronger as the seconds passed.
Hiroto placed both of his hands on the side of your face. His thumbs rubbing up and down your cheeks.
He rubbed your cheeks, your forehead, your eyelids, and down your neck.
He smiled at the mark he left on your neck.
"Mine." He said.
In the back of your mind, you registered that he said you humans were jealous and couldn't share things, but he was severely jealous and possessive. You might've laughed if the circumstances weren't so sad and awful.
Tilting your chin up with his forefinger he lowered his mouth until it hovered right above yours.
He kissed your lips and you let your mind go blank. If you didn't you would've shuddered in repulsion; you might've cried.
With a slow lick across your bottom lip, followed by a gentle suck he pulled you closer. When you felt the pierce of his teeth you gasped. You could never get used to the sensations that followed. You'd think by your 12th time you wouldn't be surprised anymore but here you were.
He was more handsy with you than previous times. His hands roamed over your body, slightly groping you in some areas.
He stopped momentarily. "Tell me."
You knew immediately what he meant. You tried to keep your tears back, but you said what you thought would keep Giyu safe.
"I'm yours." You mumbled.
He smiled and kissed your lips, softly.
"Yes, you are." He sighed dreamily, rubbing his hand down your cheek. "My sweet sweet girl."
He kissed you once more before continuing to suck your blood from your lip.
You sat completely still as he took your blood. Afraid movement would scar your lip beyond repair.
You wouldn't be able to get used to this.
You didn't want to.
You shouldn't have to.
As your body begun to slump he lifted you from the bed, maneuvering you so that he had you cradled to him. He let go of your lip allowing your head to lazily fall onto his chest.
Holding you bridal style he kissed your forehead.
"Mine. You're mine. Right sweet girl?" He spoke to you.
"Right." You whispered.
He then turned to leave the room.
The last thing you saw before letting your eyes drift close was a white snake on the ground beside the table. It seemed to be looking directly at you as Hiroto carried you further away.

- 𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐄𝐌𝐈
He was speechless.
At first he thought he was hallucinating thinking it was someone else but it couldn’t be..he only knew one person with those mesmerizing (E/C) orbs…one person who’s a stubborn little shit and that was you, it’s been 12 years since he last seen you and out of the blue you were here being introduced as a new Hashira, the Moon Hashira. It was unbelievable he was still in denial thinking it was someone else. Anyone else but when he heard your soft tone..the same tone he would always hear when bickering as kids echo through his ears he felt his heart increase. That same smile..same glint in your eyes..it was you, after so long he gets to see you again.
But.
Why we’re you here? What are you even doing here? You weren’t supposed to be here you weren’t supposed to follow him as a Demon Slayer. He told you specifically to not put yourself into danger but..here you are. In the flesh after 12 years, when he saw you introduce yourself to everyone and when it finally came to him he saw how you froze in place with wide eyes. You both stood there staring at each other you in disbelief looking for what to say, he was there he was right in front of you. What do i say? Do i say hi? Do i act like i don’t know him? You were honestly shocked and didn’t know what to do, the way he was glaring at you made you feel more uncomfortable and slightly scared.
You knew you screwed up.
He looked imitating you couldn’t get a word out. So instead you simply cleared your throat moving your gaze to someone else with a fake smile continuing the conversations.
.
.
It’s been a few weeks almost a month since you got introduced as the new Hashira and unexpectedly you made friends with everyone. They were so kind and gentle with you it made you think they were your second family (Which they are) but there was just something that was bothering you.. it was Sanemi. You knew he was mad at you for practically breaking the promise you guys made with each other but you couldn’t help it, you wanted to be useful to something, you wanted to become a Demon Slayer to get your revenge..you wanted to become one because you missed him..so so much. You knew you were an ass for breaking it but it was 12 years ago, maybe trying to talk to him would help it, right?
Wrong.
Anytime you would walk passed him, you two would make eye contact for a slight second before he turned his gaze away from you going towards his estate with a scowl and furrowed eyebrows leaving you there with overthinking thoughts.
That night you groaned as you were laid in your futon staring at the ceiling deep in thought, thinking about him..he was just clouding your mind. It was all about him..you missed him so bad it’s been too fucking long without him and seeing him glare at you instead of being happy broke your heart a little. You even wondered if he missed you as much as you missed him, the more you thought about those moments the more tears pricked in the corner of your eyes, you hadn’t realize you were crying till you felt them run down your cheek to your neck. You blinked as you brought your hand to your face wiping them away sniffling.
You scoffed to yourself feeling more spill onto your cheeks, soon enough you started crying to yourself as you thought about all the memories with him. A few minutes passed by and you were still crying only for it to get interrupted hearing a knock, “(Y/N)?” It was Genya, you looked up with a blurry vision staring at your door quickly wiping away your tears or trying to at least shouting, “Come in!” Genya softly opened your door peaking his head in to spot you sitting on your futon, he smiled seeing you were up but quick to turn into a frown looking at you, you raised a brow at the reaction “What?” You questioned and he scoffed, “What do you mean what, you know what. You’ve been crying haven’t you?” Ahh..you bit your lip looking away sadly sighing, “Was i that obvious?” You questioned and he nodded his head, “Mm, what happened (Y/N)? did someone hurt you? Do i have to kick their ass?” He asked with a protective tone walking towards your frame as you chuckled shaking your head, “I don’t think you can kick your brothers ass now can you?” Genya froze a little but sighed, “So this is about my brother huh?” You nodded your head, “Indeed it is.”
Genya furrowed his eyebrows seeing how sad you got after answering his question, what the hell did he do? “What happened?” As soon as he said that you felt tears prick the corner of your eyes but quickly wiped them away clearing your throat, “It’s just..I-..do you think he hates me? I mean when i was introduced as the new pillar he glared at me at the meeting and after that he completely ignored me..like i don’t even exist to him. i know i messed up by breaking our promise but fuck Genya it hurts! It’s been 12 years since i’ve last seen him, everyday i thought about him and when i would see him again..i missed him so fucking bad and it seems he hasn’t missed me but it’s whatever i’ll get over it.” You tried brushing off but Genya shook his head scoffing at the conclusion, “Idiot don’t be stupid, of course he missed you. He couldn’t go a day without praying to see you again, trust me (Y/N) he missed you as much as you missed him. He’s just being a dumbass right now, he’s in shock because you followed in his footsteps when you promised you wouldn’t. Listen (Y/N),” He paused taking a sigh, “You should talk to him, it’s the least you could do.”
You clenched your pj bottoms nodding your head slow, he was right..he was completely right. Talking to him was the best option right now, you walked through the night of headquarters making your way towards the pillars estate nervous as your foot steps got louder and louder same with your heart beat getting closer to the door. You fidgeted with your fingers walking up to his door stopping, you breathed in and out raising your fist into the air pausing for a moment before finally connecting your fist with the wooden door, from a distance you heard some stuff being moved around and heavy stomps coming towards the door soon watching it slide open revealing a pissed off Sanemi, “What the hell do you wa-“ He paused looking down to see who it was, you stood there uncomfortably staring into his eyes as he stared into yours with surprise, you moved your gaze away from him clearing your throat.
“Uhm..can we talk?”
It was so awkward you could hear a pen drop. You were stood up while he was sat in one of the chairs keeping his stare on you. Fuck this is so scary when the hell did he get so tall and fucking hot?! You opened your mouth to say something but got cut off, “Why’re you here, (Y/N).” He said with a stern voice, you looked up to finally make contact with him, trying to get something out but nothing was said. He scoffed standing up from his chair making it screech against the floor, “I’ll ask again. What the hell are you doing here.” Hearing a small snarl in his tone made everything switch inside you, you clenched your fists together crossing your arms together, “Listen i’m not here to argue okay? I came to talk.. to apologize to you..Sanemi i broke our promise and i’m really fucking sorry but you have to trust when i say this i did this for a good reason.” You tried to explain but Sanemi rolled his eyes clicking his tounge in annoyance. “Good reason?, what’s this good reason you have? Because i’m pretty sure we made that promise for a good reason too but i guess that wasn’t a good reason for you now was it?” He growled, this was slowly starting to tick you off the more you heard attitude and venom coming from his tone. You furrowed your eyebrows, “I said i was sorry okay?! What more else do you want me to say Sanemi? It’s been 12 years since the promise why can’t you just let it go?!”
Let it go?
“You want me to let that go? How can i possibly let that shit go when you promised me you wouldn’t join the corp and put yourself into danger?!” He shouted now feeling his face start to go hot, walking towards your frame as you continued to glare at him slightly backing up, “Cant you see why i can never let that go? Because i can’t see another person who means too fucking much to me die again!.?Do you really think i want that to happen? That day when you were on the edge of death scared me, i was afraid of losing my best friend..the love of my life.” He clenched his fist, backing you up into the wall staring into your eyes as you stared back at him with a shocked face, “That’s the reason why i made that promise. For you to promise to never put yourself in harms way, that’s why i can never let that go, not now not ever.” He whispered hovering his lips over yours feeling butterflies flutter through your stomach, you looked into his eyes to see various of emotions float through them,
Sadness.
Anger.
Regret.
You opened your mouth to speak, “Sanemi I-“ You got interrupted by him, “Please, please don’t die, please don’t leave me.” He whispered, your eyes soften as you placed your hand on his cheek, he just like the same little boy from years ago. He still had that soft side and it was only for you, “I love you so fucking much, i’m sorry for ignoring you, i’m sorry for not speaking to you, i’m s-“ You placed your lips ontop of his instantly shutting him up feeling him soften against you. You smiled in between the kiss moving in sync with him, for a few more seconds you pulled away softly smiling, “Don’t apologize idiot, it’s okay and i understand. I promise you this..i will never leave you.”
“Not ever, not again.”

He was shocked.
There was no way you were alive..there was no way you survived the final selection. His eyes were widened as he stared at you greeting everyone, what had happened for the past years? and how did u become a Hashira? Every thing was floating through his mind with questions and concerns, he had thought you died that night with Sabito but apparently you survived..you were introduced as the moon Hashira, the tenth for the Demon Slayer corp. He didn’t know what to do, he didn’t know if he should interrupt or should just wait but his body wouldn’t let him move. He was frozen in place as his stare was placed on you, you grew so much from when you and him were kids, you’ve grown into a women. An attractive women at that, he wasn’t even gonna lie that you’ve grown cuter, he clenched his Kamodo thinking of what to do.
He watched as you greeted Uzui who had a sly grin on his face as he talked to you, the way the taller male was just gazing at you was making him jealous. He didn’t realize he was glaring at the sound Hashira till Uzui felt a stare in him shooting his head up to see who it was from to catch Tomioka glaring at him, taking you by surprise you followed along with his gaze turning around to see Tomioka glaring at you both. You felt your breath hitched as you finally noticed him, he was right there and i didn’t even realize!? Shit should i say hi? What the hell do i do?! Think (Y/N) think.. Tomioka saw how your eyes widened spotting him standing afar from everyone, he grunted to himself quick to tare his eyes away from the both of you looking ahead not paying anymore mind to you and Uzui.
You couldn’t help but slightly giggle at the flustered reaction seeing how his cheeks were slightly red from embarrassment. You sighed turning your gaze back to Uzui who had a raised brow, “Do you perhaps know him?” He questioned, and you nodded your head, “Yep..me and him actually grew up together. You could say we’re childhood friends.” You answered watching Uzui nod his head in response. You and the other continued the Hashira meeting as planned listening to masters orders, once the meeting came to an conclusion you saw how quick Tomioka got up to walk away, but instead you were also quick to walk towards him taking his hand into yours walking towards a quiet place in the garden.
Tomioka looked at your guys hands with a small blush but let it happen following wherever you were taking them. After two minutes or so you led him to the nice part of the garden where there were blossom trees and a nice field of flowers, you dragged him to a patch of grass sitting on top of it as you patted next to you, “Sit.” You said softly watching as he looked confused but obeyed sitting next to you, you smiled in response, “Hi Tomi.” Tomi the childish nickname you made for him when you two were just little kids running around a garden, he felt his heart flutter hearing his nickname after so long avoiding your gaze looking towards the floor, he didn’t know how to start off the convo but he knew one thing was..
How the hell are you still here right now?
He cleared his throat, “Ho..how are you still-“
“Alive?” You finished turning your head back to him seeing his nod slowly, you softly sighed to yourself starting to anxious now. You knew he was gonna ask you this the moment you saw him staring at you with wide eyes but you never prepared how you were gonna explain it to him, Tomioka saw how you were getting anxious by how you were zoning out. He clenched his uniform pants before placing on his hands on your lap with his hand open, you looked down at his hand then back up him who just stared at you with a soft gaze, your heart fluttered a little remembering the soft gesture he would do whenever you were nervous. You took his hand into yours interlocking your guys hands together as you used your other hand to play with his finger tips, you breathed in and out before starting, “After Sabito died..i was targeted next by him, i’m pretty sure you remember that night yeah?” You asked, he nodded his head. “When you had thought i died i was only badly injured but i was still breathing. i survived the seven days which qualified me for passing the final election, everything was a blur when i woke up at the butterfly mansion. When they said i had passed i couldn’t believe it, i thought i was a goner..” You finished, Tomioka looked at you with widen eyes, he couldn’t believe it also.
That night he thought he had lost you, he was so miserable when making his way to the top. He doesn’t deserve to be the water Hashira..that title should’ve went to you not him, you saw how his gaze saddened making your breath hitch. You knew exactly what he was thinking, you let go of his hand to place them on his face, “Tomioka i know that look very well stop it. It’s not your fault for what happened that night, okay?” He couldn’t help but let his eyes water, every emotion was coming at him fast he couldn’t help but let the tears spill, you softly smiled using your thumb to wipe away the tear, “Don’t cry my love, i’m here aren’t i? I’m alive and i’m doing well, i’m finally with you like we promised and i know Sabito is watching over the both of us.” Tears were also welling up in your eyes as you tried to keep it together, Tomioka tried opening his mouth to speak but gasped feeling warm lips in his. His eyes widened for a second but soon fluttered closed leaning more into the kiss you two shared, it was so soft and gentle he felt like he was in heaven.
You hummed lowly in the kiss before pulling back leaning your foreheads together staring into his glossy blue eyes. “I’m never leaving you till death due us part.” He stared at you for a moment to take in your words soon smiling leaning more into your touch. “I love you so much..” You whispered watching as a blush formed on his cheeks,
“I love you too..”

He was lost of words.
When he seen you in front of everyone with rope ties behind your hands with bruises and marks on your body he didn’t know how to react. That possibly couldn’t be you right? But it was you..he only knew one person with those beautiful (E/C) orbs and that was you. What were you doing here? And why are you tied up like that?
You felt the Kakushi from behind you push your head to the rubble ground, hissing in pain snarling as you groaned at the harsh impact, “Show some respect!” You breathed heavy as you clenched your fists together feeling your blood start to go hot, who the hell did this guy think he is? Right alongside you, Kyojuro felt his mood start to change when seeing that, he no longer had a smile on his face but a scowl planted, he clenched his uniform pants to keep his composure. Seeing you get slammed down like that snapped something inside him, he was always like this whenever you got hurt and nothing changed that till this day. Shinobu softly sighed to herself stepping forward, “(L/N) (Y/N) i hope you know why you’re here.” She started and you rolled your eyes huffing, “Obviously i do.” You started grunting as you got pulled back up to face them again only for your glare to turn into shock. What the fuck. Am i hallucinating? That couldn’t be Kyojur..o?
You couldn’t take your eyes away from him as his fiery ones were placed on you. You both held that eye contact with one another both shocked to see each other after 12 years. But that was instantly interrupted when Sanemi came walking in with a devilish grin, “Well well well what do we have here?” He chuckled staring at you as you glared at him bawling your fists together tugging at the rope, “Long time no see (Y/N)..or should i say halfbreed.” Gasps came from everyone but Kyojuro as he looked down, “Halfbreed?! What is a halfbreed doing in the Demon slayer corp?” Tengen started as he looked at you with a look of disgust making you avoid everyone’s stare, “How did she even qualify in the final selection without getting caught?” Obanai scowled pointing towards you, everyone started to question of how a halfbreed like yourself even qualified to be a slayer, there was confusion, hate, disgust lingering from most of them expect for one person..one person in particular who knew of this secret..one person who bluntly told you to never join but here you are now.
A Demon slayer as a half demon yourself.
You were taken out of your thoughts as you felt a harsh kick towards your chest knocking you to your backside with a sword pointing towards your head, you growled at the impact glaring up towards Sanemi who had a grin on his face, “Well won’t you look at that? Who knew a halfbreed like yourself managed to sneak in as a slayer.” Almost in a flash you saw his sword speed past your arm cutting it good making it bleed, but for you..you didn’t mind the pain i mean you are a demon you got used to it but still couldn’t help but whimper lowly feeling the blood sun down your arm, “You know us slayers kill demons like you..so i don’t even know why the hell were keeping you alive right now. I should just cut off your head here and now!.” He shouted, in instinct you closed your eyes waiting for the impact to come but..it never did?
You opened your eyes slowly to spot Kyojuro standing in front of you with his sword blocking Sanemi’s. Sanemi eyes widened looking at the flame Hashira who looked pissed, “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!” Kyojuro didn’t answer yet shoved him away still guarding you with his sword in front of you staring at Sanemi, he went to open his mouth but got cut off by the master arriving.
That same night you were assigned to stay at the flame mansion under Kyojuros request, it was terribly awkward between the both of you. You rubbing your bandaged arm as he was stood far away from you, this painful silence was making you cringe inside you started to become fidgety. What the hell do i say to him? Do i say hi? Is he mad? I mean he looks mad..those fiery eyes glaring into yours with a scowl on his face. He has to be mad..he isn’t in his goody mood right now..you opened your mouth to say something but got interrupted by him, “Why’re you here?” He questioned, you sighed avoiding his stare, “Isn’t it obvious?” You mumbled, it had to be obvious to why you were here..you already told him years ago you were gonn join the corp even knowing you were a half breed. Kyojuro pinched the bridge of his nose groaning “(Y/N) i don’t have time for your attitude right now. Explain to me why you didn’t listen to a thing i said to you?” You started to get pissy, you knew he was gonna start bringing this up clenching your fists together you glared, “I think i remembered telling you i don’t follow rules from anyone Kyojuro. You should’ve known i wouldn’t have listened,” Kyojuro clicked his tongue as he stared at you, “Yeah? Well this time you should’ve listened! Do you not realize you could’ve died if i didn’t step in? You don’t know what Sanemi is capable of, he would’ve had your head cut off the moment you bared your fangs at him.” He raised his voice a little taking a step forward.
It was true. The moment you showed your fangs to him he would’ve had your head cut off, but of course you were too stubborn to admit it. So instead you got upset glaring at him as he started backing you up, you’ve never seen Kyojuro this upset before. You saw a faint blush of red on his cheeks and around his ears, you started to feel bad as you looked down knowing you caused him this anger. Kyojuro wasn’t meant to get this upset when talking to you but his feelings got the best of him seeing you get hurt almost ended up being dead scared him which made him act out. You softly gasped feeling your back hit the wall, you looked up at Kyojuro to see him throwing that same glare, you both breathed heavily as you both stared into each others eyes, your (E/C) gazing into his. It was a moment of silence till he broke out a sigh, “You’re still so.. stubborn.” He sighed in disappointment placing a hand on your cheek before speaking, “Whyre are you still stubborn?” He questioned seeing you lean into his warmth.
God you missed his touched.
You shrugged with a small grin, “Because you love it?” You teased watching him roll his eyes making you laugh lightly, “Keep telling yourself that,” He chuckled shaking his head, after that it was just quiet. It gave you the time to think about what happened..you were starting to feel bad now, you were so childish and stubborn..you sighed sadly, “i’m sorry Kyo..for being childish and stubborn i didn’t” You got cut off by lips being ontop of yours as you looked at him shock feeling him soon pull back with a grin, “Have you forgotten we grew up together? Don’t worry about it (Y/N), i can handle your stubbornness.” You looked at him still shocked starting to miss that sensation of his lips on yours. You didn’t listen to a thing he said you were just zoned out, he kissed me..omg.
HE KISSED ME?!?
Kyojuro saw how you looked at him shocked with a chuckle, “Don’t tell me you’re getting flustered now little flame?” He teased leaning his head close to yours hovering his lips with yours. You sucked in a breath soon enough scoffing pushing his face away, “Shut up!”
He was gonna be the death of you.

You cocked an eyebrow as you heard a lot of commotion, coming from inside as you got closer and closer standing in front of the white banners. When you heard the commotion settle down you walked in to see a yellows haired boy on the ground knocked out cold as a boar kinda thing got punched by the one and only Uzui Tengen ..you hummed lowly moving your gaze back to the angry Hashira, “I don’t think punching your recruits is very flashy now is it Uzui?” At that moment Tengen felt his whole demeanor change when hearing your voice, that once anger in his face turned into a soft one as he brought his eyes to look at you, his eyes widened as his breath got stuck in his throat. He only sat there looking at you not saying anything, Tanjiro also looked at you with furrowed eyebrows. He's never seen you before..
The tension in the room was getting tensed by the minute as you and Uzui held that eye contact. The more he looked at you the more he couldn’t stop thinking about that day..he still remembered your tears as you looked at him with a heart broken gaze. He didn’t believe it was you..he thought he was hallucinating thinking it was you but some random person who looked like you but it wasn’t. It was really you. It was you, how could he ever forget those memorizable eyes of yours? The same ones that looked at him with hatred and sadness. He went to open his mouth to speak but you beat him there, “So..Uzui. What’s the plan for this mission, hm?” You questioned staring at him with a cold and stern look, Tengen just stared at you for a good awhile before snapping out of his mind clearing his throat, “I..uhm.” He couldn’t speak, he couldn’t get his mind straight. He felt his air way get trapped, he didn’t know what to do.
Tanjiro noticed how the whole room was getting tensed. He smelt a lot of anger and sadness radiating off you as you looked at Uzui, he then turned his head to look at Tengen smelling a sense of regret and happiness. You don’t know what happened between you two but it was starting to get more and more tense the longer it was quiet in the room, he opened his mouth to ask the question. “Do..do you know Mr. Uzui?” His voice spoke, which seems like hours on end you finally took your gaze of Tengen looking towards the boy. Before you could answer him a door was slid open, “Sorry to intrude but i got the stuff you requested sir.” A man said said with a soft smile on his face with a basket of stuff next to him.
.
.
.
The tension was still awkward..all five of you walked towards one of the houses where Suma was staying at still deep in your thoughts. You didn’t know what to say to him— matter a fact you wanted to punch him but for the sake of not causing a scene you held back, you walked along side with Insouke having a small smile on your face as he spoke to you about how he was raised in the mountains, this kid was really interesting. You guys continued to walk towards the house finally making it.
The mission was beginning.
After assigning each and one of them to a house you and Tengen were changed back into your guys uniforms sitting ontop of one the house roofs looking out for any signs of demons. It was quiet..real quiet as you stood there fiddling with your Haori..the same Haori they gave you. You felt as if you should’ve been had it gone the moment the accident happened but you couldn’t bring yourself to, it held too many precious memories just to throw it away. After all you did missed them even after the incident, from the glances Tengen was giving you you could tell he wanted to say something to you but couldn’t get the words out. How could he when he’s now seeing you after twelve years? You also wanted to say something to him but you were hurt and upset to do so, you didn’t even wanna be on this mission but from masters orders you had to.
You bit back a heavy groan finally deciding to be the first to speak up but instead Tengen beat you to it, “I thought you threw that thing away..” His voice spoke as you gripped tighter around the fabric having your breath hitch, turning your head to look at him making eye contact with his soft orbs. You had forgotten how handsome he was, every memory came back just from looking at his face. You clicked your tongue looking away from him once more sighing, “No, i kept it.” You spoke very soft and small avoiding his gaze, Tengen sighed walking up towards you. Hearing his heavy footsteps make their way towards you, your heart increased as well as your breath getting shallowed, “Look at me.” He asked with that tone..that fucking tone he would use whenever he spoke to his wives, you continued to look away from him but that changed when you felt two fingers on your chin bringing you to turn your head. You kept a straight face as you looked up at him holding down that emotion you felt that was gonna blow any minute, “(Y/N)..that day. I..I lost someone who was an important person to my family. I lost someone who was the most sweetest and kind hearted angel anyone could ask for..and that someone was you. And I screwed that up because i let my emotions get the best of me, ever since that day Suma, Makio and Hina all begged to have you back. But it was too late..” He trailed sighing, “I’m so sorry, (N/N).” As soon as you heard that voice crack you couldn’t help but have your own emotions finally let go.
Soon enough you found yourself crying in front of him. You wanted to yell at him, wanted to punch him wanted to curse him out but you couldn’t bring yourself to do it. You brought your hand up to wipe your tears away but the didn’t stop running, Tengen softly smiled using his thumb to wipe away the single tear that slid down your cheek as he pulled you close to him with your head on his chest, you didn’t even fight back at it instead you clenched onto his uniform like you didn’t want him to leave you. He felt your hands grip tighter kissing the top of your head before whispering, “I’m not going anywhere..i’m not leaving you. Not again not ever.” He whispered closing his eyes holding you into his bigger arms letting you cry it out.
Since that night, the tension that was once there had vanished. I mean you were still awkward around him but the more times you’re with him alone the more you’re letting yourself get comfortable with him again. Tengen was happy to see you get more and more comfortable going back to your old self as you hanged with him, there was this ping in his heart the more he saw that smile he fell in love with alongside with your laughs..he wanted to ask for you back. He was gonna ask for you back. You were the missing puzzle piece for the family..you missed your family..you missed him.
Hearing your laugh echo through his ears made him firm a smile on his face, his heart was increasing by the second as he looked at you. Seeing you laugh again was like medicine for his heart..you being here with him was enough to bandage his heart back into pieces, mid way in your laugh you slowly started to die down when feeling his hand grab yours, you looked at your held hands before looking at him with a confused look, he sighed. “(Y/N), i don’t know how to put this in the right words but..” He trailed off taking a deep breath in, “Will you be mine again? Ours in fact?” You looked at him speechless with widen eyes..many emotions were running through you right now as you stared at him sadly. “I..I..don’t know Tengen.” You trailed looking down but soon your head got picked back up staring into his eyes as he gave you a reassuring smile, “What happened years ago won’t happen again..you can trust me. Back then i was..i was young and idiotic but trust when i say this, i’ll treat you like the wife you deserve to be. I love you so fucking much.” He whispered, you stared into his eyes to read him..he was being honest, they were filled with hope and regret you but your bottom lip looking down.
Even after 12 years you still loved him. It hurts to say but it’s true, even after what happened you still loved him. He was your first everything, first husband, first time even your first kiss. You wanted him back again..you wanted to be his wife again, fuck you missed him dammit. You softly sighed before looking up into his eyes, “Promise me..promise me you won’t let what happened repeat again.” Your voice spoke small as you held that gaze, Tengen felt his heart ping instantly nodding his head, “I promise, i promise what happened years ago won’t repeat.” You looked at him one last time before nodding your head but couldn’t help but pull him closer to you locking lips with each other. Tengens eyes widened in surprise by instantly closed them kissing back placing a hand on your cheek. Oh his you missed his lips onto yours. You softly smiled as he chuckled before muttering,
“Welcome home angel.”

You knew that it was stupid. To have a crush on the Serpent Hashira of all things. He had the personality of a brick, in the kind words of Muichiro, and was only nice to Mitsuri much to your dismay. But that didn't seem to stop you from trying to get close to him.
You tried to give him bentos, tried to see if he wanted to spar with you, tried to see if he'd like to accompany you to go get some ramen...hell, you even tried to see if he wanted to sit next to you in the pillar meetings. Your tries were all in vain however, as the answer was always the same.
"Mitsuri already gave me one."
"Mitsuri and I are going to spar actually."
"Mitsuri and I already went to get ramen this morning."
"Mitsuri and I are sitting next to each other, as always. Of course you'd forget that."
No matter how many times you heard his answers, they always seemed to hurt. You never gave up though, you always ignored the sympathetic look Shinobu gave you when you went to ask her if you could give Obanai his medicine for his wounds. You ignored the look that Sanemi gave you whenever you chased after Iguro after a meeting. And poor Kyojuro having to grab your wrist and reminding you that Iguro was out with Mitsuri whenever you were searching for him.
It was pathetic to put it bluntly. Chasing after Iguro like he was the only man alive. Uzui himself had even told you it was a lost cause, but you didn't care. Because to you he was one of the prettiest people you've ever seen, his heterochromia eyes and his crow-colored hair that you knew had to be soft was just two of the features that you liked about him. If only they carried over to his personality, though.
You sighed as you shifted on the bench, trying to stop thinking about Iguro. God...why did you have to fall for the guy that already had his eyes set on someone else. And it didn't help that it was Mitsuri either. She was the perfect in your eyes, strong, sweet, beautiful, and social. Obanai must've thought so, too, or else he wouldn't act like a puppy around her.
You knew it wasn't worth it to confess, and if you did it for closure you're positive Obanai would only make you feel worse. He might not look like it at first glance, but his tongue is sharper than his katana and it cuts like it, too. If you were Mitsuri you'd confess faster than your heart could beat. But you weren't and that was the entire problem.
You thought of how everyone was telling you to stop throughout looks and actions the entire time, but you were too lovesick to see it. Kyojuro, Uzui, and Shinobu were persistent on telling you to stop. Muichiro, Samemi, and Gyomei could only sigh as they watched and listen to your conversations...even though you couldn't even call them that. They were just basic greetings and questions, nothing special.
Your brows furrowed in thought when one name didn't come to mind. Giyu didn't ever try to stop you, did he? No..he didn't. In fact, you don't think you've even seen him in the past couple of days. Did he really go away because of how you acted? You wouldn't put it past him, he once left the hashira meeting early because he had to sit next to Sanemi during it.
"Hi."
You snapped out of your thoughts and lifted your head. Speak of the devil, it was Giyu.
"Do you mind if I sit?"
"Oh um, no", you watched as he sat down, holding a bento in his hand. Was he here to comfort you or something?
"You weren't at lunch", Giyu spoke, turning to look at you, "So I brought this for you." He held out the bento for you to take, a pair of chopsticks on top on it, turning his head away shyly.
"Oh, thank you Tomioka-sama", you took the bento and chopsticks from his hands. Opening it you saw that it had your favorite dish in it. How did he know that? You don't remember telling him.
Giyu sat in silence as he watched you eat, scanning your face to see if you liked it. The way you sighed and relaxed seemed that you did. He smiled softly, although it was gone as fast as it had appeared.
"Obanai's an idiot", he spoke, still looking at you.
"What?" you turned to look at him, placing the bento down onto your lap.
"He's an idiot, and has the personality of a brick", Giyu answered, a look of what seemed to be disgust on his face.
Oh, so that's where Muichiro got it from.
"Honestly don't know what Mitsuri sees in him, he's rude to everyone but her", Giyu continued, glancing back at you, "I can't believe he didn't pay any mind to you."
"What do you mean?" You were still confused, you didn't think yourself to be interesting in anyone's eyes.
Giyu sighed before looking at you, a slight pink dusting his cheeks, "You're beautiful and kind...I don't know how anyone couldn't be interested in you."
Your mouth parted into an "o" shape as you stared at Giyu. He wasn't kidding, he thought you were worth someone's time. And did he distance himself from you because he thought that you were interested in Obanai? It would be most likely.
"Tomioka-sama...do you like me?" Although your question was simple, it got Giyu red as he looked away. He nodded his head softly, still avoiding your gaze.
You both stayed silent. You couldn't believe that the stone-faced Water Hashira could get so flustered over someone. You broke the silence.
"How long?"
Giyu turned to look at you slightly, "Four months."
Your eyes widened. Four months? You hadn't even been crushing on Obanai for that long.
"Tomio-Giyu. I think I might like you too."
As bad as it sounded your attention was brought to Giyu first. Then as you adjusted to being the Frost Hashira Obanai came to catch your gaze. Maybe it was something about black-headed people that caught your attention.
"Would you...like to go get some ramen?...To see if you'd like to do it more often?" Giyu asked, his blush fading into a pink.
"I would love to Giyu", you replied with earnest.
Giyu gave a small smile as he got up and reached out his hand, inviting you to take it. And you took it as you both walked, both of your walks a little more energetic.

Genre: Angst.
Characters: Giyuu Tomioka and Kyojuro Rengoku.
Tumblr media
°○ Giyuu Tomioka ○°
Giyuu already had a bad feeling about you leaving for that mission, and seeing your condition now had proved his suspicions.
You're usually tan body was now as pale as snow, those innocent eyes with round pupils that gave your face just a bit more charm and cuteness were now paled in comparison of the color before, and your rounded pupils were now slits. Fangs had protruding from your gums, giving you the look of a monster. You had become a demon. It hurt him to see you in such a way, knowing that your cheery, sweet soul was dead, replaced with something cold and heartless.
It was his fault anyway.
If he hadn't let you go on the damn mission in the first place, none of this would've happened. Instead, he was now standing in front of a shell of who you truly were, something that was no longer the sweet, cheerful tsuguko that Giyuu had promised to protect, just like he promised for every other person who he still failed to protect in his life. He couldn't protect his sister. He couldn't protect his best friend. And now he failed to protect the last person he was truly able to care and love for, his tsuguko.
He watched as you charged forward, aming for him with nothing but pure, animalistic hunger in your eyes. He had to accept that you were no longer human. No longer the person who had changed his life for the better. Instead of enjoying a peaceful day of your return, he was standing here, getting into a stance and slicing the delicate head off your shoulders, his ocean eyes turning glossy while doing so.
Giyuu stared at your withering body with no emotion. You were gone. For good. He slowly turned around and walked away, his eyes glossy and his heart broken.
"I'm sorry, Y/n.... I couldn't protect you..." He whispered.

°○ Kyojuro Rengoku ○°
For one of the very few times in his life, Rengoku had failed to smile. His usual heart filled with warmth was now full with a mix of shock, guilt, and sorrow. He felt like he couldn't even move when his bright, firey eyes stopped upon your demonic frame. The snow-white skin, sharp claws, and weird markings all over your body told him exactly everything he needed to know.
You were a demon.
Despite the feeling of anguish in his heart, he charged forward, taking a swift slice of his bright red sword towards your pale, delicate neck. Though it hurt him to have to do such a thing to someone so dear to him, he knew it was for the great or good.
He watched as you slowly faded away, his eyes filled with sorrow as you ever so slightly disappeared from the world.
"Goodbye, Y/n. I'll see you again soon." He spoke, his eyes widening once he heard soft words emitting from the remainder of your mouth.
"Goo....dbye....juro..."
Before he could blink, you were gone. Leaving him alone to face the world once again.

┊┊┊✧ ⁺ ⁺╚══ Water Pillar ╝
Premise: Lacking resolution was his weakest attribute, after losing his established lifestyle and many friends in battle, finding something worth living for can be challenging. But there's always a rainbow after a rainy day and he found that rainbow when his low was at its peak. A lost soul finds another.
Word count: 4563
Warning: spoilers, the story takes place after the manga’s original timeline.
Note: This is in a way linked to my previous Sanemi story, as this is what happened in the same timeline but on Giyuu’s side. In case you’re interested you can read Sanemi’s here.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
The battle was finally over. It was difficult to process or to even accept that demons were a thing of the past now.
Many people lost their life to this cause, good, hardworking people.
This was the life of many, Giyuu included.
Now that there was no threat, they all needed to shift gears and find a new purpose in life, start fresh, live as normal people, finally.
That was easier said than done for a pillar.
To many, killing this creatures was just a hobby, to some a full-time job, but for the pillars it was their life.
They lived just to kill demons, to rid the world of evil, to defeat Muzan. How were they supposed to go back to a tranquil life they never had?
The easiest way out for Giyuu was to go back to his master’s hut. It was isolated enough for his liking, and he wouldn’t mind him staying for a day or two. Tanjiro would also be close by, seemed like a logic course of action.
Urokodaki was not thrilled. Unlike Giyuu, he was accepting retirement quite well. He was satisfied with the fact that not only Tanjiro became the great warrior he ended up being, but also Giyuu successfully took his place as the water pillar. He had a good life, was useful for the corps for as long as it was necessary, now it was time to find inner peace in preparations for the afterlife. Never expected having to babysit once more.
Giyuu was a wreck.
Not emotionally, but a wreck.
Adapting to a missing limb wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be. He found solace in Tengen who helped him a great deal to adjust to his daily routine, he lost it first, he was proud of how quickly he got used to it and defeated the odds. He never thought much of him, but recently he became more like a role model than anything else.
Getting dressed was complicated, eating almost impossible. He thought many times of how much he wished Muzan would have ended his life along the rest of his comrades, it would have been easier on him, and he would have had an honorable death. Without a job, a house, an arm, and now a purpose to move forward, it was becoming quite taxing to wake up every day.
Bored out of his mind, he recalled his first time in the same hut he’s been sleeping in lately, his very first time experiencing his masters rough training, the very first time he was able to take in the water breathing techniques. He did it once, he can certainly learn how to do it once more. If he had to learn how to eat and do everything else with his other hand, this would only add one more thing he had to practice enough to get by. Even if there weren’t any more demons around, even if it was not necessary anymore, it was to him, he didn’t want to feel useless and unprotected. Demons might be gone, but the dark is full of dangers living deep inside human nature.
His master allowed him to stay with him for a while longer, he was worried about his depressive state and if he was being honest, it was nice to have someone home, even when Giyuu didn’t talk as much. He’s very attached to his successors and wants nothing but the best for the remaining two.
Giyuu went deep into the mountain, where he used to train with his friends a long time ago. The place was filled with good memories and it made him feel like he wasn’t alone. It’s been raining hard for the last couple of days, but he wanted nothing to do with it, he needed to practice, he needed to become one with the water once more, what a better way of doing it than training under the rain.
After a long day of failures, a defeated Giyuu sits on a rock shielded by some trees. He liked being deep in the forest on stormy days, it was so peaceful, all he could hear was how the raindrops hit different surfaces at the same time creating an alluring melody that couldn’t be replicated, it helped him meditate, find the peace he’s been looking for a while. That’s when he felt he was being watched, a feeling he couldn’t shake no matter how silly it sounded like. Who else could be there in such a heavy storm. It was consistent, making him get up from his resting spot and walk towards the source, he thought it might be an injured animal, never thought it would be a bleeding villager resting against a tree trunk.
“Are you ok? Do you need help?” she was clearly not ok, blood could be seen seeping through her kimono, her face was also littered with smaller cuts. Seeing him seemed to ease her mind, making her collapse against Giyuu’s chest. He was still not the best at handling weight with his left arm, but he had to do something, he had to take her to his master, it was the least he could do, he just couldn’t leave a woman there to bleed to death alone in the forest.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
The rain was not stopping, the storm was as dense as it could be and that proved to be an issue since they didn’t have medicine in stock back in the hut. Giyuu still had some of Shinobu’s salve and thanks to that the woman seemed to be doing better, though a heavy fever was not leaving her.
“Giyuu, I need your help feeding the girl, my back is not as strong as it used to be.” he didn’t want to be involved in this any longer, but he couldn’t go out to train either, helping his master out a bit was nothing more than good manners.
“Ok.” getting her to sit was a task, but once she was up, he managed to make her rest against him, making it easier to get the soup down her throat. She was barely conscious, little whimpers were living her lips as he fed her, and he was losing his cool. “What is it? Does it taste bad? Is it too hot?” he didn’t get a reply from her making him try the soup himself, immediately burning his tongue with the intense heat.
Her eyes were now halfway open, awfully comfortable against the warm surface of Giyuu’s chest. She saw the cute face he made while getting burned and also saw him blowing onto the spoon before attempting to feed her once more. It was a heartwarming scene and she fell back to her unconscious self right after the soup was over.
Urokodaki’s back was becoming a serious problem. Even getting out of bed was painful and he started to worry for the future. Being alone at an old age had its bad side. Giyuu was a big help, even with his own problems.
He stares at his protégé with a loving gaze as he battled to clean the sweat out of the woman laying down across the room. There was nothing remaining from the Giyuu that ran out of situations like a plague. He was now fully committed to nurse her back to health under the excuse of helping his master. It was encouraging seeing him change, his aloof personality was a concern, he thought his beloved successor would end up alone after his passing, but he wasn’t so sure anymore and those were good news.
“Why is she not waking up fully?” his hand remained covering the cloth over her forehead, hoping the fever would go down fast.
“I’m not sure, son. Her wounds are healing properly, she might not want to wake up.” this felt like a kick to the gut to Giyuu, he knows exactly how that feels, not wanting to wake up ever again, not wanting to affront life and an uncertain future. She had probably lost her family in some sort of accident since there was no one else around where she was found, but there were no more demons, why are these things still happening? Rage was bubbling up in his chest when he felt a hand gripping his wrist.
Her eyes were finally open, and they were looking at him with worry. He was probably making some sort of scary looking face by the look of hers, “How are you feeling? I’m Tomioka Giyuu, I brought you to my master’s house after I found you wounded in the forest.” she was desperately trying to speak, but her voice wasn’t coming out, causing her to tremble in fear.
“It’s ok, don’t overexert yourself. You suffered from heavy trauma; your voice should get back with time. Keep resting, you can stay here until you get better.” her panicked self was trying her best to get up while Giyuu was pushing her back down onto the futon, fighting her panicked swings. “She’s so strong. Are you sure she’s still sick?” hearing Giyuu’s voice once again seemed to calm her down, obediently laying down.
“Let her rest.” Upon his master’s instructions he was about to get up and give her space, but she reached out to hold his wrist once more, placing it over her head with a content sigh and a little smile.
He was not one to spoil others, but if his hand could bring any sort of relief, he would keep it there for just a while longer. People usually want him out of their space, want him to stay quiet and not say another word. But she actually liked hearing him talk and wanted him there, it was a rare occasion, and he would indulge just because of that.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Once the fever went away, she became part of the dysfunctional Urokodaki household.
Giyuu would go and train in the mountain after helping his master with his daily tasks. She took care of cooking and also the cleaning of the house, leaving the old man to rest and enjoy his days as he pleased.
They now know your name is (Y/N), but you still haven’t been able to talk no matter how hard you tried.
You also couldn’t properly remember what happened with your family, everything was hazy, all you could remember was blood all over the place, running in the forest and then Giyuu’s face. Like a badly edited film.
You’d wake up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat, your throat raw as voice was trying to come out with little progress, tears going down your face.
For a while now, you’ve been sleeping in between the two of them, three futons laying next to each other by the fire.
Giyuu always woke up to your thrashing and half asleep he’d look for one of your hands patting around until he felt it within his grasp, the nightmares would die on that very moment, serenity painting your face as his warmth reached your insides slowly. He would let go in the morning before anyone could notice and get up to start with his day.
Until one night.
The nightmare came back. You could see an unknown man with an axe, he was chasing your little brothers around, you could see how he would chop them up like a steak, it was gruesome, heart wrenching. You jumped in between the man and your crumbling mother; he had already assaulted her and was in pretty bad shape. And that’s how you got the gash on your stomach. Your mother made you run for your life, the rest of the children were gone, and she was inhaling her last breath, she wanted to at least be able to save one of her beloved children.
Scrambling to your feet, you ran desperately into the forest. Branches hitting you on the face as you ran with all your remaining strength, some of them cutting the flesh they graced. Your feet were naked and you could feel the little stones on the ground digging deep into the sensitive skin, it was painful, debilitating. Your stomach was severely injured, the blood loss was making your head fuzzy and when you were about to lose control of your own body, the last thing you saw were Giyuu’s beautiful eyes.
Waking up with your heart hammering against your ribs was a normal occurrence. But this time was different. You saw everything, you remembered now.
Tears were flowing down your cheeks imitating the waterfalls nearby. A choked sob left your lips, the shock of hearing your own voice made you reach for Giyuu.
But his futon was empty.
The moon was still high up in the sky, darkness filling every corner.
Where was he? It was so late, you can’t go out this late, Urokodaki-san doesn’t let you. Where could he be?
Not thinking clearly, you stomped outside the house looking for him, but there was no sight of him, his zori were not with the others either.
Many thoughts clouded your mind.
Did he leave without even saying good bye? Would you ever see him again?
You heard him talking with his master the other day, he wasn’t even supposed to stay this long.
Panic filled your chest, your head about to burst but thankfully your feet did the job for you, running at full speed through the trees and into the heart of the forest. If he was still here, there was just one place he could be in.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Giyuu couldn’t sleep, so he decided he would put his time to good use and train for a couple of hours more, that would for sure tire him up enough to help him sleep.
He was about to head back to the hut when the trees cleared up reveling your disheveled form running in his direction.
Before he could even open his mouth, you threw yourself on him, wrapping your arms around his neck and legs around his waist, “Giyuu, Giyuu, Giyuu, Giyuu, Giyuu!” shock could be seen in his face for miles. He didn’t know what to do. Should he hold you? Should he put you down? Why were you even there? It’s dangerous to go out alone at night, he thought you understood that.
But wait- “Your voice is back?” this was the very first time he heard your voice, it felt foreign but oddly welcoming.
“GIYUU” all you could say was his name in between muffled sobs. He didn’t leave, he was just training. He didn’t leave you behind like everyone else did.
“That’s my name, yes. C’mon, lets get you back home.” shaking your head and clinging tighter onto him you didn’t let him put you down. “I thought…you left…” you could barely talk, panting heavily against his ear.
Was that why you were crying? Because you thought he left? That was no reason to cry, that wasn’t even his house to begin with, he had to leave eventually, and so do you.
“Giyuu, I saw my family’s death in my dreams. It was horrible, he, the man that did this, was like one of those demons you talk about with master, he, he cut my family down like trees.” He’s no stranger to this sort of scenes, he’s seen them firsthand, lived them through. He knows how painful and scary that can be and the scars that they can make inside someone’s heart.
His hand came to rest on your back, gently patting it, it was his way to let you know everything would be alright, he wasn’t one of many words, comforting people wasn’t his forte. “I won’t let him go near you again, don’t worry.” as usual, his voice had a calming effect on you, sobs slowly turned to whimpers, and then to little sniffs. You knew you were safe; he was there after all. He made you feel safe.
“Will you leave?”
“We can’t live in his house forever (Y/N). We both need to leave at some point.”
“Can I go with you?”
He still didn’t know why you were able to talk now, was it psychological like his master thought? Was it because you now remember the incident? Trauma has so many different ways of manifesting itself, it was concerning.
“If you must.”
He carried you back to the house, your legs were still shaky from the commotion and the long run, the last thing he wanted was your wound opening back up or another of those hell fevers. It was just the best he could come up with, the more convenient way to take you home in one piece.
But for you it meant more than that, he was worrying about you, he was willing to take you with him when he left, he was the only good memory in an entire nightmare, the beacon of light that took you to safety, the warmest hand you’ve ever held. He was slowly becoming the reason you woke up every morning.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Life was easier now a days, it’s been a couple of years since your first encounter.
Giyuu was used to handle his left hand now.
Your voice was back in its entirety, your wounds fully healed.
But Urokodaki’s health kept declining.
You were now part of his family, and he didn’t want to see you go, he’s lived his life in solitude since he retired, without the warmth a family can bring. He felt more at home now that he shared the space with you two and wanted this to be his reality to his last day.
“I have to go (Y/N). My friend is having a baby. He wants me to go meet him.”
“Then I go too.” you were pouting, clinging onto his leg. It still terrified you the thought of him leaving to never come back. It hunts your nightmares more often than the massacre you witnessed these days.
“We can’t leave the master alone, what if his condition worsens?”
“It’ll be just for a couple of days, Giyuu. Take her with you. I don’t want to see her wail until your return, might have to lock her away in a cave.”
It’s not like he didn’t want to go with you, he was honestly worried for his health, his hair was now mostly gone, his old age was showing rapidly, and you both feared the worse, it wasn’t a good time to leave him on his own.
“I will cut it short. We’ll be back by sunrise.” with a short nod, he pulled you by your wrist, running full speed down the mountain. Thankfully you had built a good amount of stamina training along side him for the last couple of years and you could actually keep up with him.
His friend’s house was…unconventional to say the least.
He had four wives, the last addition to the group was the one bearing the child.
Tengen had sent his old crow with the news, they bonded over their shattered future and were now close enough to share something of this importance.
Giyuu was the first one to hold the baby, even before Tengen did. This caused an uproar, the father mopping all over his tired wife, begging her to bring another one to this world fast so he could be the one to hold them first as his right had been stolen by a treacherous friend.
Seeing such a large man mopping like a child was a sight to behold. The baby in Giyuu’s arm though…created a whole new ecosystem in your head. He looked so soft, the way the baby’s little hand caressed Giyuu’s cheek while stretching, the small smile playing on his lips when he saw the baby yawn for the first time. It looked like a different dimension; you’ve never seen that face on him before.
“Can you please give me back my son, Tomioka? If you want one that bad, why don’t you make one with her?” pointing over to you, he took his child from Giyuu’s arm, immediately falling in love with the little clone he created with his darling wife.
“I….we- we are not- is not like that, Uzui.” the smirk on Tengen’s face was as annoying as his entire self, if it wasn’t for the baby in his arm he would have been forced to wipe it out from existence, “Yeah right. I saw the way she looked at you, seems like she wants one too. You do know how to put it in, right? Or do you need me to give you some lessons?” Giyuu’s hand was on his sword, ready to decapitate the new father, this only made Tengen cackle as he took his newborn back to his mother.
“Stay for dinner, the girls are cooking a feast to welcome the baby.”
“We can’t, master is ill.” Tengen knew how important this was, he was like a father to Giyuu, loosing him will be another big blow, he worried for his friend.
“Alright, (Y/N)-chan please come to visit us when you have time. Make sure to drag your man along when you do so!” waving your way out of the polygamist household your cheeks were burning bright red while Giyuu just let out the loudest sigh you’ve ever heard.
This Tengen guy meant troubles.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Urokodaki’s passing came unannounced. He left this world peacefully, resting on his futon after a hot cup of tea. He died a happy man, surrounded by a loving daughter-like figure and his successor, he was grateful for the life he had and left this world with a smile.
You were the one to notice it first, he was retelling one of the big adventures of his youth when he fell quiet, the teacup emptied just in time.
Giyuu found you sobbing on top of him, holding his still hand in between both of yours, shattering his heart once more.
You two were now alone in this world.
Just a night before this happened though, he called Giyuu aside, he told him to take good care of you, reminded him this house belonged to two of you and wanted to make sure Giyuu understood he would never find another woman like you, nobody could ever like him half of what you do, appreciate him as he was and accept his past the way you did, embrace his future like it was your own. He made him promise this like if he knew he had no time left.
Saying goodbye to the people you love is hard, specially when they’ve been your support for such a long time. But Giyuu was grateful and so were you.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Time skip~
It’s been six years since Urokodaki’s passing. The hut has never been this full of life before and somehow Giyuu wishes his master was there to witness it.
“Mama where are we going?” a small boy was being dressed by you while Giyuu waited patiently outside.
“We need to go to the market, love.” Winter was approaching fast and now that the child was eating larger portions, you needed to stock up with food before the snow didn’t allow you to go down the mountain.
Downtown was far from the hut, without the child it would have taken an hour, but he was too young still to run at full speed carrying him, so it took double that time to get to and from the market.
It was a beautiful fall morning, the crisp air filling up your lungs with delight, that’s when Giyuu spotted a familiar face in the crowd, one he hasn’t seen in over a decade.
Who would have thought that Shinazugawa Sanemi, the most feared demon hunter, the powerful wind pillar would end up selling vegetables in a market.
He looked way more relaxed than he did back in the day, his face used to remain in a permanent scowl, always yelling at others, the complete opposite of what he was witnessing right now, it was like seeing a different person. Made him reflect on his own life, he’s changed quite a bit too, he’s more open now, talks more. Having a three-year-old around asking questions all day forcing him to indulge him with the cutest puppy eyes the world has to offer, made him a different man, who wouldn’t change under said conditions.
Seeing an old friend felt like a breath of fresh air.
He is still in contact with Tengen and his family, Tanjiro also stops by every now and then with his children. But seeing someone that’s related to the old distant past was like going back to his youth.
They were both older now, both had a wife and children. People change, the world keeps moving forward regardless of how many lives were lost that day.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Agreeing to a night out in the Shinazugawa household was unexpected but welcomed.
Sanemi’s wife was lovely, she was as pregnant as one can be, yet she prepared the most delicious meal he’s ever tasted. Sanemi and the tiny gang went to catch some salmon and she cooked it freshly caught, accompanied with a bountiful amount of hand grown vegetables, even the tea leaves were grown in the property. Shinazugawa’s wife was a delight, he really hit the jackpot, made him wonder how he was even able to get someone like her.
“Yuki-kun, would you like to play with Remi? She’s about your age, a bit younger. Genma, take him to your sister so you can play together.” the little rascal reminded him so much of Genya, he was sure Tanjiro would cry if he ever gets to see him.
“Go with him, have fun.” the child was as shy and soft spoken as his father, but agreed nonetheless encouraged by his mother.
“So just one? I thought the old man had a big house. Or is it your salty ass the problem?” Sanemi was smirking while bringing a cup of sake to his lips, clearly enjoying the conversation.
“If someone as salty as you managed to have five….” your hand flew over instantly to slap your husband’s knee, why was he acting this way, he’s usually so well mannered, it was embarrassing.
“Oh well, my wife is irresistible what can I say.”
Yuki came wailing back into the room, crashing on his mother’s lap, “What’s wrong baby?”
“She…she bit my hand…”
Little Remi was giggling behind her brother who was visibly distraught by the situation. Sanemi burst out laughing going over to his little girl to bring her to the table, “That’s my girl.”
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
The night ended up being one to remember, without knowing Giyuu had built many friendships over the years.
Sleep was avoiding him, his mind wondering while his wife’s little breaths hitting the side of his neck soothed his restless self. There was a point where he thought he was lost, that he had no future, that living one more day was a waste of time.
When he looks back at his life, he realizes life has been good to him.
He thinks of lost comrades, Kochou, Himejima-san, Iguro and Kanroji, Rengoku, Oyakata-sama…then thinks of himself, Shinazugawa, Uzui, even Tanjiro and Nezuko and how happy they are now. How they owe their happiness to those who gave their lives to protect their future.
He thinks of his master who groomed him to be who he is today.
Of his wife and child who would be by his side for the rest there is to live.
And he feels grateful, he feels complete and even if he went to hell and back, he would do it all over again if that brought him to this very moment.

"Nii-chan, are you alright?"
"Huh? I'm good. What's up with you, though?"
Sanemi hasn't been focusing well lately, even in his classes. He's less harsh than he usually is, and even his closest friend, Obanai, notices this. But of course, knowing the chemistry teacher, he won't really pry that much.
Genya shifted in his seat, looking at his big brother with worried eyes. Usually, Sanemi would say things like...
"Why do you fucking care?!"
or
"Mind your own damn business, you goddamn brat!"
It's not like Genya likes being yelled at by his own brother, but Sanemi's been acting weird.
"I'm good Nii-chan. I hope you are too. Just remember that you're the sweetest brother in the world. And the greatest teacher too."
Sanemi blushed at what his little brother told him. He scoffed and rolled his eyes, gripping harder on the steering wheel. But honestly, inside, his heart was suddenly filled with warmth.
--
You were a wreck. The day after that incident with Sanemi, you couldn't find the guts to face him at school. You can't even talk to Kanae well after the jealousy that you just felt from her presence. The science teacher doesn't deserve it, as she was really nice towards you, but you just can't help it.
You're a history teacher, but damn, you don't know how to write your story well enough that it'll be good history in the future.
Sanemi had avoided you as well, and that made you feel worse. Whenever you're in the faculty room, he will walk out, even if he's in the middle of a conversation. Of course, you know that what he tells his other colleagues is just full of excuses.
You silently watched him, noticing how he became less aggressive with his students. But of course, sometimes you'll see him talking to Kanae, and you'll end up sulking once again on a corner with Tomioka, who has no idea why you're there with him at all.
Tumblr media
(this is the usual view you'll see)
But as if the fates were testing your patience, today you found yourself alone with him inside the faculty room.
The teachers decided to go out tonight, but of course, because you were sulking badly, you declined. Even if Tomioka wanted to decline too, Shinobu forced him to do so. So now you're alone at your desk, finishing checking the test papers on the table.
You heard the door slide but didn't look up, as perhaps it was just one of your students.
"If you're looking for other teachers, they're not around. Just come back tomorrow."
"Need a hand?"
You looked up, and standing behind you was Sanemi. With his sleeves rolled up and his arms crossed, you can't help but feel hot on the face. But yes, you longed to hear his voice. You fucking missed the scent of his minty perfume.
You missed Sanemi so much, and him talking to you right now fucking hurts so much.
But of course, you're at school, and this is work. You need to separate your personal life from your career, which you also messed up on doing the last few days.
You gave Sanemi a soft smile, trying your best not to pull him down and just hug him. "Oh, sure, Shinazugawa-san. My students are giving me a hard time!" Your voice sounded as professional as you had imagined, and it had made Sanemi scoff.
He pulled Giyu's chair over and sat next to you, snatching some of the test papers from your table. "Where's the answer sheet?" He asked, and you handed it to him.
Sanemi's fingers brushed against yours, and that immediately almost made you pass out. You were paralysed by the sensation that the little motion sent through your body. You watched as the man checked the papers silently, wishing he'd bring up something from that time, but nothing came.
"For a delinquent kid, Hashibira-kun did well." He muttered under his breath, praising your student which made you smile. "Yep, he's good at history. And Kamado-kun's a great tutor." You replied, smiling as you easily checked Tanjiro's papers. The kid had aced the test once again.
"Eh, I hope he does well in math, though. That kid gets fucked up with numbers!"
"Oi, mind your language." You said, chuckling, which also definitely made Sanemi smile.
You remembered the night when he confessed to you, as he said almost the same words when you cursed at him.
"Why are you still here, though? I thought the teachers would eat dinner together or something. Where's your best friend? Tomioka?" Sanemi asked as he continuously checked your students' papers. You gulped and paused for a bit.
"Oh, Kocho-sama took Tomioka-san. And as for me, I'm busy. I can't go." You lied through your teeth, wishing Sanemi would never notice. "How about you? I thought you went with them?" Kanae's there... You wanted to add but stopped yourself from doing so.
"Oh well, I'm not in the mood for those gatherings. Okay, I'm done here. Do you have more tests to check?"
"Oh, none. I think I can go home. Finally!"
You said, stretching out on your chair. You didn't notice, but a button on your blouse popped out, hitting Sanemi on the cheek. You gasped, immediately caressing his cheek to check if you had accidentally wounded him again. But thank goodness, there are none.
Sanemi undoubtedly blushed slightly as you caressed his face and let your fingers run up his scars. When you realised it, you pulled your hand away, apologising for what you just did.
You were expecting that Sanemi would pull your hand or anything, but that didn't happen. Disappointment filled you, but this is the reality. You turned him down, and that's the end of it.
A warm fabric suddenly blanketed you, making you look up. There, you saw that Sanemi took off his outer vest and placed it over your shoulders. "I don't wear any jackets, but perhaps this vest could cover you up." He said it sweetly, and that definitely tugged at your heartstrings.
"Thank you, Shinazugawa-san."
"You're welcome."
Silence. A deafening silence came right after you wore his vest, covering up your bra that was exposed earlier. His minty scent embraced you like a lover longing for his significant other, and there, you wished it was him instead of just his vest.
The math teacher didn't try to start up a conversation; instead, he played with Tomioka's pen that was left at his table.
You suddenly wondered why he was mad at your friend in the first place. So you asked.
"Why do you hate Tomioka-san so much?"
Your question caught Sanemi off guard, and he was undoubtedly staring at you with wide eyes as a result.
"Uh, sorry to pry—"
"I don't hate the man. But I consider him my rival. He's smart; I'll give him that. But I fucking hate his I am different from you vibes and shit. And the Kochos seemed to still like him despite that. You know that Kanae's my ex. I even became jealous of him before."
Kanae again... You looked away and sighed. "I see."
"But now it's different. It's more like he doesn't vibe with me as much as Obanai does. And he looks like a fucktard."
"Hey! Tomioka's handsome!"
You said it in defence of your best friend, which made Sanemi laugh. He shook his head and continued. "But yeah, that's it. I don't really care if he lives with the Kochos or anything. I have more priorities than thinking about them."
His words moved you. So, does this also mean that he isn't thinking about Kanae anymore? You wanted to ask once again, but you have no right to do so.
"And you're one of those priorities, Y/N."
Your world stopped as Sanemi's voice echoed in your senses. You shot him a shocked look, but he was already looking at you with sadness in his eyes. This sight was too different from his normal attitude, and it makes you feel bad. You want to comfort him.
"I can't forget about you, Y/N. I fucking tried."
"Sanemi stop."
You tried stopping him, but the man held your hand once again and gripped it tightly this time, assuring you that you wouldn't leave him again.
"Please let me start over, Y/N. Please let me prove myself to you. Please give me this last chance. And I swear that if this doesn't work this time, I'll stop for good. I'll fucking leave you alone even if that shit hurts."
This time, tears finally rolled down your cheeks as, for the second time, you saw the usual strong and cold Sanemi beg for you to give him another chance.
You hate how he looks right now. You hate seeing him sad. And with that, you let your impulse take over your body as you gave him a warm embrace and whispered in his ear.
"One last chance, Sanemi. Let's try this again."

But why the heck am I sobbing XD
Okay... fuck, I love angst :'( And still I hope this made you happy ^^
I hope Sanemi's not too OOC but this is how I imagined him to be if he ever falls in love again and get hurt. Like he would have this part revealed. And yes, the first part's my fave as I was sobbing over Genya because of some spoilers that I have seen today.
You are my babies and I want you happy so I swear, next chappy will be happier. Sanemi and Y/N is making up here so, perhaps on the next chappy they'll be okay? Or is it? MWHAHAHAHA
But anyways, thank you for reading this fic. I love you and always remember that!
@sofilsworld just tagging you here as you were also in the last chappy ^^ Thank you!!

There's a SaneKana AU that doesn't change anything in canon except for the fact that when Kanae fought Douma, she found out she was carrying a child.

Promise Me
Giyu x Reader
Warning: this story contains angst
A/N: I said I was writing a Giyu angst…so here it is. I put the idea aside to finish my Kishibe fic and well… I wrote this in under an hour, I’m very tired and it isn’t proof read lol so if it’s shit… don’t tell me <3
Word Count: 2k
Tumblr media
Sat on top of a grassy hill, light just barely filtering through to the ground, warm air cradling you in its embrace. You felt normal, for once in your life, you could finally rest without worry. “Strange… isn't it?” It was a quiet comment, as if your voice would shatter the illusion…even though it wasn’t an illusion to begin with. “Very much.” His voice was just as warm as the air surrounding you, so different than the one you were used to.
There was no reason for him to hide his emotions behind a sheet of thick ice, ice not even the toughest of picks had been able to break through. Mostly because they were never meant to, that ice was the kind only the sun itself could melt away. That was exactly what it did, removing every inch of the barrier he had built up over the first twenty one years of his life. “It almost feels like I’m dreaming.”
You watched the field below you, long grass swaying in the breeze. It looked inviting, like you could run through it for miles and never get tired. “Yeah… almost as if it’s too good to be true.” Giyu smiled softly, head tilting back to admire the brilliant hues of the setting sun. Painting the sky in an array of pinks and golds. Night was slowly creeping up on the two of you, yet it held no dread.
You no longer feared the setting sun, you welcomed the moon’s gentle embrace. There was nothing lurking within the shadows any longer, you’d forever be free from their grasp. “Me too, if this is a dream I hope it never ends.” You laughed softly, head tilting to admire the man beside you. Battered and bruised with so much left behind, so much that would never come back, you both emerged from the other side victorious.
“This just may be the longest dream I’ve ever experienced.” Your heart skipped, ever so slightly, as a smile crept up his face again. You weren’t used to it, you weren’t used to the warmth it radiated nor the brilliance it held when he smiled without restraint. The way his nose would scrunch softly, the way the corner of his eyes would crinkle. It only took an hour before you found yourself addicted to the look of it. “I rather like it here.” His gaze moved to meet yours.
For a moment, it felt as if time had stopped, as if the world stopped spinning on its axis for just that brief second. You couldn’t quite get over the man beside you, the man you now called your own. “Me too.” A gentle whisper, just as gentle as the breeze that carried it away from you. Everything about your life within the last two months was nothing short of new. A new beginning of sorts.
With that new beginning came new experiences. You’d never known a love like the one you shared now. It was delicate and young, you both had quite a lot to bear, to figure out. But this? It came naturally, no longer any barriers to keep you apart. There was no longer a reason to deny what was clearly there. Every day was a new opportunity, a new day to discover more about the other. Now, you couldn’t imagine your life without him.
You broke your gaze from his, a smile still present on your lips as you scooted closer to him, head coming to rest on his shoulder. “We should travel more, find every beautiful place we can.” Your fingers tangled in his, squeezing gently. “I’d like that. There is a whole world out there waiting for us. Now that we have the time to actually explore it.” His cheek pressed to the top of your head, eyes locked on the way your fingers intertwined with his.
“We could go anywhere we want. Take a boat across the ocean and discover what lies beyond it. Then, when we’re satisfied, once we’ve seen everything we could ever imagine, we return here.” You smiled, cheek squished to his shoulder. “We’d always have a home, so long as we’re together.” He teased softly, yet there was a weight to his words. “Tell me, Giyu…” you started softly, not wanting to pull away from him.
Yet you ached to see his face when you asked this question. “Yes? What is it?” His grip on your fingers tightened slightly, as if one gust of wind would pull you from him. “Are we going to spend the rest of our lives together? Just me and you?” You expected some sort of hesitation, some sort of silence that told you he was thinking about his answer. Instead, he replied without a second of hesitation. “If you’ll let me, I don’t ever intend on leaving your side.”
You pulled away, head lifting from his shoulder to look at him. “I’d never ask you to leave.” It was raw, maybe more serious than you intended for it to come out. Perhaps you only realized that because of the look in his eyes, blue eyes that held such surprise, such love. For a moment you found it hard to keep that gaze, as if the weight of his adoration would suffocate you if you tried to bear it all at once. “Good. Because you’d have a hell of a time keeping me away.”
A smile broke onto your face, one as brilliant as the setting sun behind you. One that made him pause for a moment, engraving each and every centimeter of your face into his memory. He never wanted to stop seeing the smile, he wanted to continue to be the reason you smiled in such a way. It was more intimate than any act of physical love in his book. A smile that was meant for him and him alone.
“I love you.” Slipped past his lips before he could pull it back, three words having a mind of their own as they tumbled helplessly out for you to hear. But maybe it was the words you uttered back that held more gravity, six words that pulled his heart in a million directions before snapping back into a whole. The kind of response he could only dream of getting, the response he didn’t quite feel he was deserving of. But that was something to be worked on.
“I know… I love you, too.”
You’d been aching to say it, quickly losing track of the amount of times where you nearly did. These were things that couldn’t be rushed. Now, you had all the time in the world to feel things out, cherish each moment and do things when the time felt right and not because the chance could get pulled out from under you. Now, though, saying ‘I love you’ now has never felt more right.
You shared a kiss, not your first, but one to remember. You’d engraved every bit of it to your memory. The way his lips felt against your own, soft and warm. The way he tasted, sweet like the honey from the pastry you had shared. The warmth between your bodies, the comfort of the other's presence. The sun fading to your backs, the sky lighting up with one last display of its brilliance before entering its slumber. Every moment of it was something to remember, hold on to and cherish.
Four years have passed since that day. Now, you sat on that very hill again. This time, you were alone. There was no longer a warmth cradling you in its embrace. The grass had long since died, the sky no longer held the brilliance it once did. It was cold, colder than sitting in the snow in the middle of winter with no layers.
Loneliness had never felt so crushing. As if the weight of it would drag you straight through the dirt below you and swallow you whole. Part of you wished it would. “You said I’d have one hell of a time keeping you away.” You laughed without any humor behind it, drawing your knees to your chest, the bark of the tree digging into your back. “You’re such a liar.”
You looked down, the stone was etched beautifully in perfect writing. His name front and center along with his dates. For some reason, it sent bubbling anger straight to your gut. Not anger at him, no you could never hold anything against him. It was physically impossible for you to ever feel badly towards him. No, this anger was directed at everything out of your control.
Just before his twenty-fifth birthday, he’d fallen ill. The kind of ill that you knew deep down you couldn’t come back from, the kind of sickness that pulled life out of you day by day…hour by hour. The kind of sickness that you could do nothing to treat, only try your hardest to make it comfortable. You had spent each and every day by his side, every waking moment holding his hand.
Remembering your travels, laughing about the adventures the two of you had shared. You’d meant every word that you said that day, you’d wanted to see the world. And Giyu did everything in his power to give that to you. You’d traveled to every beautiful place imaginable, even sailed across the ocean to discover the very lands you’d only ever dreamed of. He’d given you the entire world.
“I love you.” Just as gently as you had that day. Just as gently as you had whispered while he took his final breath. Just as gently as you spoke it every day you sat beside him on this hill. Your hand ached for the weight of his, fingers crying for the warmth of his tangled in your own. Crying to forget the coldness they had felt once he was gone, the warmth you’d never get back.
Thinking back on that day, you wish you had stared at him just a little longer, memorized the shade of blue that filled his irises. You wished you’d memorized the tone of his voice, the way his hair felt against your fingers, the soft blush of his skin. Even if you were granted all the time the world had to offer you, it would never be enough. There was no amount of time that would allow you to memorize him.
It was almost laughable, that three months without him felt longer than the four years you’d spent with him. Eventually you’d come to face the reality of your anger, that it wasn’t anger at all. The feelings you harbored were love, love in its purest form. In the end, that’s what grief really was. Love that you’d never be able to put forth, the kind that would forever hang on your shoulders and weigh you down. Always reminding you that it had nowhere to go.
“You’ll wait for me, won’t you? I promise I won’t be much longer.” Your eyes closed, inhaling the cool air through your nose. “It’s only a matter of time, it’ll catch up to me. My twenty-fifth is only a few months away. You’ll wait for me, right?” Your chest felt empty with each breath you took, nothing but an ache reminded you that you were still alive. It was infuriating to you, yet you couldn’t decipher why. Your mind is far too jumbled but unbearably silent at the same time.
“We can travel the world again. I’m not sure what lies beyond this, but I’m sure it’s far prettier than anything we ever saw. Maybe we can get married this time, when we’ll really have all the time in the world. We can enjoy each other with no time limit, for real this time. Giyu, promise me you’ll wait.” You knew no one was listening but that would never stop you from talking. When your death caught up to you, you’d die alone. But that didn’t scare you.
Not in the slightest. Because you knew he’d be there waiting, just as patiently as you had pleaded with him each time you sat beside his grave. Just as you had asked him, just as he promised you before his eyes shut, never to open again. Death was a warm hug, just as warm as the breeze had been that day. Just as warm as his hand had been intertwined with your own.

Hey, it's just by curiosity and you soo good at this
All Hashiras reacting and acting if their y/n break up with them
You can add some slayers too with your choice
Mitsuri
Tumblr media
Omg, she has the biggest frown on her face. Her first thought was she did something to upset you or make you uncomfortable but she didn't ask why you were breaking up with her because she didn't want to annoy you or make you feel bad. So she just hugged you and said "thank you for being honest with me" she was happy that you were happy but she thought about what she did wrong in your relationship to make you break up with her.
Shinobu
Tumblr media
"Oh..I see." She said sadly. She didn't have much of a reaction due to her hiding her emotions. She returned to her work as normal and didn't really show any signs of being upset. But deep down she missed you and she was sad you broke up with her. It takes her a while to fully get over it even if she didn't show it.
Giyu
Tumblr media
He expected it eventually. He just didn't expect it to hurt so much. He was kind of confused when you told him you wanted to break up with him. Once he processed your wounds he frowned. An even bigger frown than normal. "I see.." he muttered before walking away. He regretted not trying to communicate with you more when you said you wanted to break up but he was so confused on what he had done wrong he couldn't find the words. He missed the affection and attention you gave him but he's happy that your happy.
Kyojuro
Tumblr media
His smile went to a frown so quickly :( He asked why you wanted to break up with him and what he had done wrong. You two talked and decided it was better if you both went your separate ways. Even though he was upset he knew you were happy and that's all that mattered to him. He wasn't as cheery and talkative for a while but he eventually got over it and returned to his old self.
Obanai
Tumblr media
He wasn't surprised when you told him you wanted to break up. He was always busy with work and never had time to spend with you so even though he still loved you he knew it would be better this way. He hated seeing you walk away from him though after you both said your goodbyes. He felt like he would never see you again and that made his heart ache. He tried to get out of his head by training more and going on more missions and while it kept him busy he still missed you dearly.
Sanemi
Tumblr media
He was surprisingly calm when you broke up with him he asked what he had done to upset you. He was calm because he hadn't registered that you two were actually breaking up. After a bit, though, he started to get upset with himself for not being able to be a better boyfriend to you. He misses you but he knows it's best for both of you that you two went your separate ways.
Tengen
Tumblr media
He's upset. But a part of him understands you were also a demon slayer and dedicated to the demon slayer corps. He was also dedicated, but you just couldn't handle a relationship right now because of your responsibilities. You both stayed friends and Tengen said he and the wives would wait for you until you wanted to try the relationship again.
Thank you for your request! Have a nice day/night
I don't write for Gyomei and I only write platonic stuff for Muichiro I hope you still liked this though!

The Last Time He Saw Her (Giyu x reader)
Tumblr media
(Y/N) smiled to herself as she smoothed out her Demon Slayer uniform. She pulled her hair into a ponytail, satisfied with her appearance. Just as she finished, her boyfriend, Giyu, walked into the room. A small smile found its way into his face as he spotted her. The male walked up to her, wrapping his arms around the woman's waist, pulling her into a hug from behind.
"Are you leaving already?" He asked, placing a kiss on her cheek. (Y/N) nodded, turning to face him.
"Yes, but don't worry, I'll be back before you know it" She reassured him. The two simply stood there for a moment, basking in each other's presence. They both knew they were risking their lives as Demon slayers, but they always promised each other to come back home safe and sound. Someday they wanted to get married, but they hoped they could do so in a world free of demons.
"Just promise me you'll be careful" Giyu said, looking directly into (Y/N)'s eyes. She stared right back, smiling lovingly at the man.
"I promise." Giyu watched her go, already starting to miss her.
----------------------------------------------------------
Giyu sat at his home, staring out at the sky. Today was the day (Y/N) was supposed to return and he was holding his breath until he saw her again. That's when he noticed it, your crow flying overhead. The sight filled him with a sense of dread and that feeling was proven right when the bird announced your death, Giyu let a tear fall down his face, he hadn't realized that when he said goodbye to her, it would be the last time they would see each other.

As the morning wound away into afternoon, Kyojuro considered, not for the first time, his good fortune that none of his family had ever been slain by demons in front of his eyes.
He was no stranger to death, nor violence, but both phenomena tended to haunt people, to float just out of thought, and kept their hooks in the brains of those they had victimized. While death hovered on his shoulder, violence had no grasp on him. He was grateful for that. He must have been in a very contemplative mood today.
With the exception of Mitsuri, he felt he was in a unique position among his fellow slayers. He had grown up strong, not because he had to or was forced to, but because he was strong. He didn’t have to do what he did, but that was why he did it. He wanted those who had no choice to have one offered. He wanted to be the kind of person his mother had been for him.
Sometimes, however, that was easier said than done. He may be an accomplished demon slayer, but his social and domestic skills were in need of a tune-up (or so he had been told).
He’d spent the morning recounting his last mission (his first since his battle with Akaza). Kyojuro had griped about it a little, how he wanted a challenge, and Senjuro had poked him menacingly with a kitchen utensil. Ever since he’d started helping and hanging out at Kocho’s, he had gotten much more talkative and confident. Kyojuro didn’t mind this, but he also didn’t necessarily need a 13-year-old sassing him on his own health.
Nevertheless, he acquiesced, and he and Senjuro had spent most of the afternoon out in town, Senjuro gathering ingredients for some kind of meal he wanted to make, himself picking up some Dutch historical texts he knew deep down he wouldn’t be able to read until he saw either Mitsuri or Giyuu again.
The two of them had become somewhat of a dangerous duo, the only Hashira with fluency in two languages, allowing them to gossip and joke without anyone knowing what they said. Kyojuro had to admit he was eager for the two of them to get along, with Mitsuri much like a sister to him and Giyuu with Kyojuro wrapped around his little finger.
Only Iguro seemed to be opposed (what else was new), as he hated sharing Mitsuri with anyone, especially Giyuu, who he hadn’t quite warmed up to yet. To that effect, the Serpent Hashira bristled every time he heard even a lick of Dutch from his sweetheart; even if it was nothing more than a simple greeting or exclamation.
Quite the opposite was true for Kyojuro, who unabashedly melted whenever Giyuu mumbled something foreign under his breath. Then again, Kyojuro would listen to Giyuu dictate legal statutes if he so desired. His voice, breathy and quiet as it was, had become one of Kyojuro’s favorite sounds.
He was jolted from his pleasant thoughts when Senjuro elbowed him. “Aniki, it’s almost five.”
Kyojuro glanced at the bundle of ingredients in his brother’s arms. “So it is! I suppose the rice needs to be started?”
Senjuro nodded, and not very subtly passed the bundle of rice, nori and noodles to his aniki. “Maybe.”
Kyojuro caught on and grinned. “And I suppose you have more shopping to do?”
“Maybe.”
“Is this you telling me to go home and make my world-famous rice?”
“I don’t think you’re the reason rice is world-famous,” Senjuro joked, but nodded again. “Please? I didn’t realize how many things I needed to get.”
Kyojuro puffed out his chest. “Say no more! Don’t be too late, now! And don’t talk to strangers!”
“I probably will.” Senjuro replied flatly.
“Stranger danger is a very serious social issue, Senjuro—“
“Good-bye, Kyojuro.”
By the time he had all his supplies, it was nearly six, and thus the youngest Rengoku hurried along the frozen path towards his home. His basket was heavy with goods, but it didn’t distract from the gentleness of the darkening night around him.
The market was only a few city blocks length from the Flame Estate, so it wasn’t an arduous walk in the slightest. Senjuro rounded the bend in the path at the edge of the woods, noting how much quicker the wind whipped out in the open air.
He caught only a brief glimpse of a breathtaking sunset sky before someone slammed into him from the opposite direction, knocking the basket out of his hands. Thankfully, it landed upright in the loose snow and suffered no losses.
Senjuro hadn’t fallen, but he had stumbled back a bit, and, trying to regain balance, his hands gripped dusty fabric. He blinked, took a look at the person whose haori he had caught hold of, who now bent forward, catching their breath in front of him.
“Tanjiro!” He beamed, moving his hand to the other boy’s shoulder. When maroon eyes lifted, however, Senjuro’s smile fell, and he felt a twinge of nerves in his gut. “Tanjiro?”
A dry cough. A small smile.
“Senjuro, hey,” Tanjiro’s voice wobbled. He looked fresh from combat, dirty and bruised, his uniform knees torn through. “Good to see a friendly face.”
“Hey yourself. Ara ara,” Senjuro inhaled quietly, his hand coming away from Tanjiro’s shoulder with a faint shadow of blood across it. “Geez, let’s get home, you’re a mess.”
Tanjiro nodded, and accepted Senjuro’s offer to carry Nezuko’s box. He scooped up Senjuro’s basket of goods, and the two set out on the final stretch of road.
“We didn’t receive your crow, I thought you were still on mission.” Senjuro hummed. “Did you run all the way here?”
Tanjiro shook his head, sending snowflakes off in clumps. “I passed out at one point. I think I ran into a tree or something.”
“Ara ara. I know you say you have a hard head, but you’re gonna give yourself another concussion.” Senjuro gently scolded, rubbing his dull fingernails back and forth over the leather strap of Nezuko’s box. Tanjiro cracked a smile at that.
“You’ve been spending too much time at the Butterfly Mansion, you’re starting to sound like Kocho-San!”
“I’ll be sure to tell her you think so.” Senjuro countered, enjoying the glint of surprise in Tanjiro’s eyes.
“You wouldn’t. Would you? Oh man, you totally would. I’ll be dead before dawn.”
Nezuko stirred in her box, perhaps turning in circles, as if defying the thought.
“I think you have half a shot with Nezuko-chan’s help.”
“I think you underestimate Kocho-san’s willingness to poison people.”
Senjuro laughed knowingly at that. “You’re going to see her soon anyway, from the looks of you. You know Aniki is a terrible nurse.”
“I guess she’ll be miffed no matter what happens,” Tanjiro frowned. “Um…especially with me.”
Senjuro glanced at him. “Don’t tell me you’re worse off than Giyuu-San? I figured he must already be there or something.”
It took a moment before Senjuro realized his own footsteps were the only ones he could hear crunching in the snow, so he turned. Tanjiro had his head low again, exhausted out of nowhere. Senjuro halted.
“Tan?”
Tanjiro’s fists clenched, unclenched. They began shivering, pink with cold.
“…you lost your gloves, huh?”
Tanjiro shook his head, began walking again, his face still turned to the ground. “I still have them.”
“Well then why — hey.” Senjuro grabbed his friend’s cold hand and made them stop again. “Did something happen to Giyuu-San?”
His hand was squeezed tight, grip more fierce than the cold. “He’s — alive.” Tanjiro shuddered, as if just now experiencing the winter weather around them for the first time. “But — I’ll tell you at home, I…don’t think I can repeat myself.”
Senjuro’s stomach flipped a little at the way Tanjiro was speaking, so quiet and worn. He wrapped his arm around his friend and hurried them as fast as was manageable back to the house, where his aniki was clumsily attempting to pour an insane amount of brown rice into a serving dish.
Kyojuro turned around as he heard the doors close, and upon seeing the boys, he quickly dried his hands on his black apron. His eyes, bright as usual, then became concerned, narrowing as Senjuro carefully set Nezuko’s box on the ground before darting out of the room to retrieve their stash of medical supplies.
Tanjiro looked like he’d been hit by a wagon, and he stood still, his breath still cold enough to puff into steam as he exhaled. He wouldn’t lift his gaze up from the floor mats.
Kyojuro took the two Kamados in as he approached them, already getting the heavy sensation that tonight wasn’t going to be the happiest of returns. Nezuko, adorable as ever, was snoring rather softly, half-asleep and dazed on the floor, her injuries all but gone thanks to her healing factor.
While he cared for her deeply, Kyojuro had witnessed her demonic battle prowess many times now, and knew by her sleepy state that she was no worse for wear. Her brother, however, was very human, required more care, and by the way he swayed on his feet, it seemed that something very unfortunate had happened to him on his mission.
Tanjiro was still shivering from his travels outside in the winter, and was stubbornly standing, not even reacting to the warm crackling of the fire nor the sound of Kyojuro’s approaching footsteps. He did finally speak, when Kyojuro was close enough to him for his shadow to catch the firelight.
“Kyo-San?”
Kyojuro folded down, balancing on the balls of his feet, and reached out to take one of his tsuguko’s frigid, scabbing hands.
“Welcome back!” Kyojuro began with his usual gusto. “Both of you!”
Nezuko rolled onto her back, and her little demon hand patted Kyojuro’s ankle in acknowledgement. Kyojuro sent her a smile, then focused on her brother.
“Tanjiro-Chan, I’m very glad you’re home,” he carried on steadily, keeping his voice low but warm. “What a state you’re in! Let’s get you fixed up, how about that?”
“Can…I need to send a letter first. To Ubuyashiki-sama.” Tanjiro croaked, sounding on the verge of collapse. His harsh breathing sounded borderline phlegmatic, which Kyojuro tucked away for later thought.
Kyojuro placed his other hand on the boy’s shoulder, steadying him. “Alright,” he answered, not pushing for more information. “We can certainly do that! Use your breathing first, though, you’re still bleeding. Looks like you have a broken rib that’ll need some mending as well.”
Tanjiro nodded, but his nose started to crinkle, so tears weren’t far off. He took in a deep breath, but his exhale slipped into a thin wheeze. “Hurts.”
“Forget Total Concentration, then. Just do what you can.”
Senjuro returned then, with a basin of water and the medical bag over his shoulder. He pulled at Tanjiro’s other shoulder to get him to sit, but Tanjiro didn’t budge. Senjuro began gently dabbing at the blood on Tanjiro’s damaged shoulder, and sent a cautioning look his brother’s way.
“Aniki, something happened to Giyuu-San.”
Well, that certainly sent Kyojuro’s gut into twists. “To…”
Thankfully, Tanjiro distracted him with his first small tears. “Giyuu-u-uu….” He warbled, blinking rapidly. “G-Giyuu got hurt. We got ambushed by an Upper Rank— Upper 2, in the forest…there were a lot of them…”
Kyojuro forced himself to keep calm. “Where is he right now?”
The dam broke. Tanjiro’s next exhale shattered the resistance left, sent him falling forward, into Kyojuro’s arms, his burning muscles giving out and his tears flowing fast. “Upper Two took him—he came out of nowhere—he wants something from — from — I couldn’t do anyth-thing I couldn’t get him out, hah, my sword…”
Tanjiro dissolved into half-sobs, letting Kyojuro and Senjuro smother him in a hug. “I’m so-sohorry…” he gasped, his throat closing, his lungs wheezing with the effort of crying. The hug softly broke.
“It’s not your fault. You mustn’t apologize. Tanjiro,” Kyojuro forced Tanjiro’s teary gaze to meet his own lone eye, sending goosebumps of realization down the boy’s skin. He made his meaning plain. “You are very, very lucky that you weren’t killed. That is not something to apologize for. It is the most important thing you can do.”
“But Giyuu—“
“Giyuu-San,” Kyojuro cut him off, even though his voice quieted a bit, “Protected you. That is the duty of a Hashira. If he weren’t with you…If either of you were alone…you’d be dead. But because you were together, you helped each other, just with your presence.”
Tanjiro sniffled, though he seemed to be calming a little. “I don’t get it.”
Kyojuro sensed a significant depth to this particular sentiment, and did his best to quell his own worries. He squeezed his tsuguko’s hand. “I’ll tell you later. You need some rest.”
“The letter—“
“I’ll take care of it. You’re not writing anything in this state, youngster. We’re going to pay Kocho-San a visit if your wounds start getting infected, so let’s not let that happen.”
Senjuro nudged him again. “Aniki, can you start a bath?”
“On it!” Kyojuro gently patted both of his little brothers on their heads before setting off to do just that. Senjuro pressed the wet washcloth to Tanjiro’s eyebrow, carefully wiping away the dried blood from a slash there.
“He’s right, you know.” Senjuro soothed.
“I know he is,” Tanjiro croaked, his heart feeling raw and small. “I wish he wasn’t.”
And, across the house, heart pounding violently, Kyojuro held his arm under running water, barely feeling it, and considered, not for the first time, his good fortune that none of his family had ever been slain by demons in front of his eyes.
He was grateful for that.

Gyomei was known for two big things: incredible strength and tears.
It was no secret the gentle giant was a big bag of emotions beneath those steel muscles. A good chunk of the time you’ll always see him with tears streaming down his face, his head bowed in prayer as he whispered to beings beyond this world.
Still, today seemed…off. It wasn’t just that he was sad, but Gyomei looked…numb. His face was dry, but etched with sorrow so deep and painful it was hard to look upon it without feeling like crying yourself. He was only around long enough to greet the master before he was off to the waterfalls, leaving his fellow Hashira watching with wide, worried eyes.
“What’s going on, Master? Did something happen?” Sanemi was the first to speak- he was quick like that.
“It’s…complicated.” Kagaya offered, something pained in his smile as he turned his head towards the direction Gyomei left. “Gyomei is my oldest friend, and because of that- I will not share his sorrow. Do be kind to him these days; he is going through a great deal.”
No one knew what “A great deal” implied, nor did they really need to be told to be kind. For the most part, they let him be today; knowing he preferred his solitude.
In time, however- that was going to change.
~~~
“Kaw! Master Kagaya wishes to see you! Kaw!” Gyomei’s crow cawed from above, guiding Gyomei to the mansion. It had been a few days since…his disappearance. While he felt better, he was far from happy. Shame curled in his belly at leaving so abruptly- how could he just walk out on the master like that?
It was the pain in the other’s he felt that moved his feet. He could sense their ache for him and it became…overwhelming.
He should apologize to all of them. Would that help?
Just as he thought this, something brushed against the back of his neck. Pausing, Gyomei reached back, figuring it was a leaf or possibly a bug.
Nothing. Odd. He went to leave-
There it was again! Something soft and ticklish. Definitely a bug. He reached back, but the ticklish insect had already creeped up to his ears, prodding along the backs and making him shudder. “Wha-heheahhahha what is thahhaht?” He tried to grab it gently but it was far too fast, switching from ear to ear with rapid pace.
Something slithered against his skin, adding to the tickles. Ah, so that’s what that was.
“Iihihihihigurohoohoho! Whahahaht are you dohohohohoing?”
“Figured it was me?” The tickles stopped, the slithering retreating until he was completely free of the invasion. Obanai’s hand reached out and patted his shoulder before the sound of leaves followed. Gyomei was alone once more.
“How..odd.” He decided before going on his way.
~~~
“Gyomei-san! Good morning!” Shinobu’s sweet voice greeted him next on his walk to the master’s. He smelled salt water- Giyu was with her? “Come, come- have a cup of tea before you go!”
“Oh, but I shouldn’t keep the master waiting-” Gyomei began, but a warm cup was pressed into his hand, smaller ones pulling him along until he found himself sitting on a bench. “Well…for a moment.”
“Yes yes- having tea with friends is lovely. Isn’t that right, Tomioka-san?”
Giyu seemed surprised by this- Gyomei could feel him startle beside him. “Yes, it is.”
It would be rude not to drink. Gyomei raised the cup to his lips, taking a small sip. Then he drank some more, finishing the cup in one gulp. “That was lovely. Thank you so much, Kocho, Tomioka.” He reached out to give the cup back when fingers suddenly poked at his sides, making him stiffen. The cup tumbled from his hands, likely to break. “Ah! AHehahaha- whhahait, the cuuuhuhuhp!”
“I got it- you big klutz.” Sanemi was here? Gyomei didn’t even notice. “It must have been a good cup if you drank it so fast, huh?”
“Sanemi is quite good at making tea.” Giyu added softly.
“You two must have it often then.”
“We do not!”
“Hmmmm~”
Gyomei would have added his own opinion to the matter had he not been attacked by multiple fingers at once. “Plehahahhase, I muuhuhust seheehehe the mahhahahhaster!”
“Sure sure- let’s just make sure you’re ready for him. Hehehe.” Sanemi’s snickers were drowned out by Gyomei’s growing chuckles.
~~~
“How peculiar…what is going on today?” Gyomei mused when he finally escaped, sides tingling from the attack. The tea was quite lovely- and he was fed snacks after; all made by Sanemi. Tickles for a snack break?
First Obanai, then Shinobu and the boys? What was…
Oh.
Oh dear.
“GO!” Tengen roared from his left. Three pairs of feet were running full speed at him from three different directions. Had this been a demon, Gyomei would have been fine- knocking them aside with ease.
But as this was his fellow Hashira…
“Oof!” He yelped when Mitsuri hit his back, legs coming around his torso like a vice. Rengoku was on his right, grabbing onto a leg with a booming “Gotcha!” while Tengen finished the grip from his left. “You’ve got me. Now- what are you three up to?”
“No time to talk- team chaos: Attack!” Tengen commanded, and within seconds Gyomei was being ambushed by tickles once more. Mitsuri was scribbling her nails into his neck and ears while Tengen went for his upper ribs and armpits. Rengoku was at the base, squeezing his knee with all his might- so much so Gyomei dropped to the other one.
“Ohoohoohohooho gohohoohhodnehehehehhehess! Uuhuhuhuzui, Kahahhhanrohoohohji, Rehehehhengoku, plehahahhhahse!” Gyomei wheezed, giggling up a storm as he resisted the urge to move. This was the worst attack yet! They seemed to have learned all his tickle spots! How did…
It all came together now.
~~~
“Ah, there you are Gyomei. I’m pleased you’ve come.” Kagaya smiled in his direction as Gyomei took a knee, bowing. “Please, there’s no need for formalities. We are old friends, afterall.”
“Mas-...Kagaya. I apologize for my behavior the past few days. It was disrespectful of me to just leave so abruptly. I can understand now why you did what you’ve done.”
“Did what…huh?” Kagaya tilted his head, blinking. “What did I do?”
“Hm? You didn’t order the others to…?” Gyomei paused, equally confused. They sat in silence for a good few minutes.
Then…
“Pfft- Ohohoohohoho! Oh yes- now I remember!” Kagaya laughed, the sound unclenching Gyomei’s chest. “I didn’t give any orders, no, but young Uzui had came to me with questions regarding your…sensitivity.”
“Kagaya! You ratted me out!” The idea was so absurd he forgot to be formal. The  master giggled like a child, caught in the act with little shame.
“I merely mentioned a few spots to try. Come, Gyomei- I think you and I both can agree this was necessary.” Patting the spot beside him, he invited his oldest friend to join him. Gyomei wasted no time, taking a seat a step below so they were shoulder level. “Forgive me- you seemed so sad lately. It was the only thing I could think of to help.”
“A trick- and here I thought becoming the master would rid you of those.” Gyomei couldn’t bring himself to be angry- he was rather impressed really. Pleased too, knowing it wasn’t a punishment but rather an attempt to be kind. “I had quite the day with everyone- I wasn’t spared by a single soul.”
“Good. That shows you how much we care about you.” To emphasize his point, he scribbled a few fingers into the crook of Gyomei’s neck, making him scrunch away. “If you ever need time, Gyomei, please don’t be afraid to ask. You’re my dear friend first and one of my Hashira second. I never wish for you to suffer in silence.”
“....Thank you, master.” Tears rolled down his cheeks once more, but something warm was in his expression this time. He reached out, taking Kagaya’s hand within his own like he was handling a bird. “I appreciate it very much.”
Thanks for reading!
