Ch.6 {Blind as a Bat, Sneaky as a Snake}
|Ch.1|Ch.2|Ch.3|Ch.4|Ch.5|Ch.7|
Cw/Tw: fear, fear of discovery, fear of death, v0re mention, injury, hurt character
Wilbur groaned as he woke up with the worst headache of his life. He struggled to get out of bed when Techno called for breakfast.
It had been a couple of weeks since the incident. He hadn’t been sleeping the best and he had been staying out late. The Drider from the cave was the star in many of his bad dreams of late and sometimes even Tommy, but Wilbur knew that was just his instincts in the back of his brain. He and Tommy and grown back together the way they were before, or perhaps even closer now.
And if any fears of the naga remained after the dream, they would be disintegrated into dust the moment Wilbur went to visit Tommy for the day. However, the more Wilbur stayed away from home, his twin seemed to be growing more and more agitated with him being gone.
So what if he skipped a few of his chores to be with Tommy longer? And yeah he guesses he has missed a couple of dinners with the family by staying out pass dark, but he didn’t miss that many...
Wilbur let out a sigh of defeat. He knows he’s driving his family nuts. He knows that they only worry for him because they care. He’s probably been driving their familial instincts insane. Wilbur could only imagine his poor father when he didn’t return when expected.
His brother began to question him more, hating that he was making their father worried. But Wilbur reassured him that everything was fine, and it was.
Until Wilbur found Techno following him to the clearing.
He had just started to travel over when he heard to familiar heavy footsteps behind him. Anyone other person would probably not have heard a thing, but when you’ve lived with the leader of the guard everyday of your life, you unconsciously learn your brother’s footsteps.
Instead of heading to the clearing, Wilbur changed his course and began gathering nuts and seeds in his satchel. After about ten minutes he felt his brother’s presence leave him.
Wilbur found he had a new fear.
The guard wasn’t ever Wilbur’s favorite topic. His brother always wanted him to join but he always declined. He had much better ways to spend his day that didn’t involve training all day.
But this wasn’t about something so simple as Wilbur joining. It was much worse.
Wilbur’s worst nightmares were about the guard. But specifically it was about them finding Tommy.
Wilbur let out a long sigh and he opened his bedroom door, shaking the thoughts from his mind. He stumbled into the Kitchen and sat down in his chair.
As he swallowed his breakfast he noticed his sore throat. He let out a cough and his head pounded harder. He laid his head down absorbed in his own misery.
His father clearing his throat brought him back to reality. He hadn’t even noticed that his dad and Techno were eve there.
“Mate, are you feeling alright?” His father's concern was leaking out of his very being.
He sniffled and nodded his head. “Yeah, I’m fine.” He slurred.
Techno let out a disbelieving grunt and gave a look to Phil.
“I’m not so sure mate...” Phil walked over and felt his son’s head. Wilbur leaned into the cool touch.
“I think you need to rest today, Wil.” Wilbur let out a hum of acknowledgement. He did need to rest but he could do that with Tommy.
“I’m sure I’m fine.” Wilbur mumbled as his abruptly stood up, only to lose his balance and fall into his father’s awaiting arms.
“Alright Mate, back to bed. You need to stay home today.” Phil handed Wilbur to Techno and his twin carried him back to his room and laid him down on his soft blankets.
His father immediately hovering over him like the protective bird he was. Caring for his fever and sore throat. Maybe he did need to stay home today. He didn’t want to get Tommy sick after all.
He would have to apologize to the snake later, for now he slept in the warm caring embrace of his family.
———————————————————————
Ranboo always loved to go on a nice flight and stretch his wings. What he didn’t like was making a wrong turn here and there and ending up lost.
He wasn’t great with directions. He had always had a bad memory with these kinds of things. He knew of and has been to the many places of the forest like the creek and mushroom grove many times before, but he’s usually with other people.
It’s also not his fault that his eyesight wasn’t the best. He was more nearsighted than most, but that was just one of the many challenges of being a bat hybrid. But maybe he should try to improve on his skill of echolocation, or remember to wear his glasses. Tubbo had made them just for him, but like most things Ranboo forgets them.
He’s gotten lost before, but he always makes it home in the end. If his echolocating doesn’t do the trick, the many tiny signs pointing to the village will eventually lead him there. It’s just frustrating to be having fun one minute and find that your completely lost the next. Then to spend the next couple of hours to find his way back.
They knew they should of waited tell tomorrow. Tubbo would’ve been free to come with him instead of working on his latest project. But the itch in Ranboo’s wings only grew and he fell to his urge to fly.
So here he was in a random clearing in the woods. There was nothing that special about it from what he could tell. Just a few stones and mushrooms here and there. The rest was a thick blanket of moss and grass. Tree limbs stretched just far enough over to cover just the right amount of sun from the floor below.
One word came to mind as he looked at his slightly blurry setting. Peaceful.
Ranboo sighed and sat down on a mossy stone to rest. He supposed there could be worst places to get lost.
They were startled out of their peace when one of the branches above gave out a loud creek.
He looked up to the tree tops above and gasped. It appeared to be a bundle of white flowers. One’s that grow from pear trees. Ranboo’s stomach rumbled from the realization.
Even if they couldn’t find and ripe fruit to eat, the nectar would be a delicious snack.
Ranboo stretched his wings wide and took off towards the white blob. Their suspensions were found correct as he landed gracefully on the branch and dove his face directly into the delicate flowers.
He didn’t notice the prying eyes just a little further up above.
———————————————————————————
Tommy was throughly disappointed. Wilbur didn’t show up today. While this wasn’t the first time he’s missed a day, it still made Tommy miss his brother.
A couple of hours had passed when Wilbur would’ve usually arrived when he heard movement on the forest floor. Had he just come late?
His heart leapt in excitement. He hid his scales in the shade of the branches of an old pear tree. He carefully watched the ground of the clearing, getting into pounce position.
There.
He barely had time to hold himself back from dropping out of the tree. Instead of the mouse who he had grown so familiar with, it was instead a bat.
Tommy immediately shrunk back higher in the tree, keeping still and flat against the branches. But he couldn’t help but get a peak at the creature before him.
He had seen him around the forest before. Only this time he was on his own. No Bee hybrid or even the moth or the shrew.
No one but Wilbur had been to this area of the forest before. It made Tommy a little nervous.
He watched the little black and white figure wander around for a short while before he sat and rested on a stone.
He liked to watch this one occasionally. He was quiet while he was in his group, and always loomed behind them in the back ground. But they also were quick to throw in a witty joke or give anyone a helping hand.
But the question still remained… Why was he here?
Tommy leaned further forward to try and get a better look when suddenly the branch groaned under his shifting weight.
The little bat looked up and let out a loud gasp. Tommy’s heart stopped.
He ducked back behind the leaves his mind going a mile a minute.
Did they see him?
He heard the small flutter of wings coming his way.
Wait. That wasn’t right… shouldn’t they be flying away?
Tommy slowly peaked over the limb once more to see the bat face first in a bundle of white flowers. He had no idea how they didn’t see him.
The naga stayed still for awhile, content to watch the bat enjoy his meal, but his curiosity soon got the better of him.
And Tommy was rather lonely without his brother around…
“Hey you…” Tommy whispered out. The bat jumped up looking around. The naga stayed out of sight.
“Me?” The bat questioned. Still looking around squinting his eyes.
“Yeah… Do you like the flowers?” The naga didn’t have much practice in conversation with anyone who wasn’t Wilbur. His nervousness for even talking to the bat didn’t help either.
“Uh, yes I do.” The winged hybrid replied. He made a panicked face and nervously looked around once more. “These aren’t your flowers I hope… I’m sorry if they are.”
Tommy couldn’t help but laugh at that. His flowers? If anything they were the lady of the forest’s flowers. Not his.
And Tommy didn’t think that she cared if the bat ate from the flowers. If anything it was encouraged. Her forest was meant to protect and provide.
“No, those aren’t my flowers.” The child laughed. The little hybrid seemed a bit relieved, but a light blush covered the smaller’s cheeks.
“Well sorry anyways.” The bat kept his gaze to the branch below with a nervous smile, wringing is clawed hands together, his wings creating a makeshift safety blanket.
Tommy took this time to really analyze the bat hybrids features. They looked to be about the same age as Tommy, black and white wings attached to either arm, and large pointy ears nestled in with their fluffy two toned hair. If Tommy really focused on his face he could see the slightest glimpse of two little fangs poking over their bottom lip.
Tommy brightened at that last detail. They matched.
“I’m Tommy!” He introduced himself. “What’s your name?”
“I’m Ranboo…” Ranboo looked up once more and looked around. “Uh I’m sorry, I don’t have the best eyesight… Where are you?”
“I’m around…” Is all the same supplied. Ranboo let out a snort.
“That’s not a very good answer.” They laughed. “Well a big man like myself likes his privacy! Unlike someone like you, Ranboob…” Tommy faked annoyance.
Ranboo let out an unamused squawk at the poor nickname. “That’s not my name.” He shook his head with disappointment. “That wasn’t even that good!” They groaned.
“Ha! That good! That proves that it was at least a little good!” The naga bragged out with a smug grin.
Ranboo let out a chittering laugh. Tommy beamed in his amusement. After their laughter died down Ranboo asked a question.
“What are you even doing out here? Are you looking for the village?” Tommy looked down at the bat who was happily eating from the flowers again. Tommy was terrible at lying.
But he didn’t have to lie… he could just be vague.
“I was just waiting for a friend, but I don’t think he’s coming today. And uh I don’t love in the village, I live out here.”
———————————————————————————
Ranboo quieted at that. “You live on your own out here?”
The disembodied voice let out a sad laugh, “Yeah, but I’m a big man I can take care of myself.” Ranboo didn’t like that one bit, he sounded far to young to be on his own. Ranboo knew from experience.
“You could come live in the village with us!” They suggested. “We’re very welcoming to outsiders!”
Voice or Tommy didn’t have a reply. Ranboo sat the in awkward silence, letting it surround him.
“Who’s your friend?” He quickly changed the subject. With that simple question the air around them seemed to brighten again.
“Oh he’s the greatest! He visits me almost everyday! He basically my older brother at this point.” Tommy boasted.
“Basically?” The bat questioned with a smile. “Oh yeah, more like definitely. He’s helped me out so much, he comes up with cool games to play, and he keeps me safe!”
Ranboo couldn’t help his curiosity he had to ask. “Do you mind me asking his name?” Tommy seemed to paused at that. As if thinking it over in his head before telling them.
“I’ll tell you as long as you promise not to tell anyone that you and I met, or that me and him met…” Tommy paused again before quickly adding on, “You also can’t tell him that we’ve met.”
That made Ranboo more confused than he already was. He supposed he could keep a secret for Tommy’s sake. “I promise.”
“Ah… okay…” Tommy hesitated a little longer before finally letting it spill. “His name is Wilbur. He’s the greatest!” He said with the upmost pride.
Wilbur. Ranboo knew Wilbur well. They even hang out on occasion. He even used to babysit over Ranboo when they were younger. So why would Tommy want to keep them meeting a secret?
“I know him! We basically grew up together.” The bat answered honestly. “He help watch me after the village took me in.” He smiled fondly at the memories.
“That’s so cool you know Will!” Tommy squeaked with joy. “Isn’t he the greatest! He has like the best songs in the whole world.”
Ranboo let out a chuckle and shook his head. “ I don’t know if I would say all that to his face. It might all go to his head and it’ll get so big he wouldn’t be able to function.”
Tommy made several noises of agreement before speaking again. “Of course I wouldn’t! Well maybe about his songs and other stuff, but you’re right he is an absolute arse when he gets full of himself sometimes.” Tommy joked.
———————————————————————————
The two young hybrids fell in to a fit of giggles, mocking Wilbur’s voice in various ways of him saying that he was the best.
The two joked around and talked of the many things that interested them or that they enjoyed. Tommy’s subject mainly being about Wilbur, and Ranboo’s being about his friends back at the village. Ranboo eventually coming clean with some embarrassment that he was lost and Tommy laughing all the while but gave him directions back.
So far everything was going perfectly. Tommy was so proud. This could be one of his first real friends. They got along great and they enjoyed one another’s company. That was proven by Tommy telling them the way back, and them staying content where they were, relaxing with their back on the trunk of the tree.
Everything was fine… until it wasn’t.
Perhaps, Tommy got a little too relaxed. He should of had his eyes on the bat the whole time, but he just got so comfortable. He supposed it wouldn’t hurt to rest his eyes for a little bit it.
It did.
On the branch below the bat hybrid started to explore his surroundings more. All the while talking to Tommy about the trouble he and his friend Tubbo got up to last week. Tommy mumbling a tired response every now and then.
Perhaps, if he wasn’t so relaxed he would have felt the end of his tail fall to the branch below and start to subconsciously wrap around it.
Tommy sighed happily in the peaceful quiet of the afternoon….
Wait….quiet?
“Ran, are you alright?” Tommy asked a little worried. There was no response.
“Ranboo?” Tommy peaked back over the branch and froze. He had broken one of Wilbur’s rules.
———————————————————————————
Ranboo grew a little restless after sitting and talking to his new friend Tommy for so long, so he decided to explore during their conversation.
For whatever reason Tommy wanted to stay out of sight. Ranboo understood that. He liked his own privacy and was rather shy when meeting new people too.
Ranboo walked a long the branch looking at the many different pattens of the bark. His head snapped up at the blurry sight of movement in the corner of his eye.
It was a bright red blob of something. At first they thought it was just a vine, one that would grow in trees to reach the sunlight better. But something was off…
He didn’t know of any species of plant that grew from a red vine, or at least not one as vibrant as this. He decided to approach it closer, in the back of his mind he vaguely realized he trailed off of conversation about Tubbo setting Niki’s kitchen on fire last week.
He stared silently as his mind tried to process what was before him. It was patterned, almost like the scales of a fish. He reached out to touch it and found that it was surprisingly warm.
They shifted underneath his touch.
Alarm bell blared in his head as stood frozen in place with a instinctual fear. They slowly craned their neck upwards, following the path of what now could only be a tail.
The thick branch above covered the head of the beast. Maybe it didn’t know he was here yet. He needed to warn Tommy, but the words died down in his throat at the thought of alerting the snake to his presence.
“Ran, are you alright?”
Ranboo suddenly realized that Tommy’s voice was coming from up above. His mind felt like it was about to break. This couldn’t be happening.
“Ranboo?”
All their suspicious were found to be correct as a red scaled face with split pupils and fangs met his own. All color drained his face as fear completely seized his mind.
He couldn’t even run, frozen in place like a Statue. He supposed that made the Naga gazing down on him Medusa.
They would have laughed at their comparison if they weren’t down right terrified.
“I’m-” That’s all Ranboo needed to be pulled out of his trance. He raised his wings and shot away from the Naga. Barely avoiding branches and limbs in his path. He glanced behind him to see the beast coming after him. His head snapped forward once again only for his left winged arm to hit a broken branch.
White hot pain seared through his shoulder and he took a gasping breath with a pained noise. He felt himself start to plummet out of the sky to the ground below.
Warmth suddenly surrounded him and he was pulled back up into the tree. A wave of nausea ran through him as he realized he was trapped between to clawed hands.
This was it.
“Oh gods, Oh gods, are you alright!?”
What?
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry! I shouldn’t of even talked to you, oh gods, Wilbur’s gonna kill me!”
Ranboo was suddenly laid down on a remaining flat platform from an old broken branch. They yelped as clawed hands immediately came after them again. Tears sprung in their eyes. The Naga’s claws takes back.
“No, no , no… It’s okay! Big man Tommy’s not gonna hurt you! I promise I-” The beast cut himself off with loud sobs.
Ranboo didn’t know what to. He sat trembling with his hurt wing held to his chest. This was the first time that Ranboo had ever been this close to a giant hybrid. It was a little overwhelming and down right terrifying.
Their mind couldn’t help but flash bad to the stories their Mothers told them when they were younger. But… He hadn’t done anything to hurt him. Technically…It was Ranboo who had flown into the tree. Also didn’t he just have a conversation with him for half the day? Ranboo might have overreacted just a bit…
Okay, maybe not, Naga’s are quite literally seen as the most deadliest outcome for someone his size. But Tommy has really been nothing but kind to him, he’s already made them laugh more then they could count.
He even gave them directions back to the village. Now that was at least one of the most concerning things, but he did say he knew Wilbur. Last time Ranboo checked the mouse hybrid was still alive and well. He’d seen less and less of Wilbur over the last few months but he supposed that he now knew the reason.
Leave it to Wilbur to adopt a literal nightmare.
He guessed he should at least give Tommy a chance. He tried to ignore the throbbing in his shoulder.
“T-tommy?” The bat hesitantly called out to the Naga. Gods, he hated his stuttering.
The snake sniffled and looked up at the bat. “I’m so sorry…” He wiped his eyes.
“It’s alright Tommy, I just…” Ranboo laughed, he sounded a little insane. “I just wasn’t expecting all of this!” He ran a hand down his face, just to make sure he wasn’t dreaming.
“Oh gods, I’ve made you go mad! Wilbur really is gonna kill me…” The snake buried his head into his hand with a whimpering growl. “ I’ve basically broke almost all of his rules in one day…”
“His rules?” Ranboo questioned, trying to focus on anything but his instincts to fly away. That would be horrible on a hurt wing.
“I’m not supposed to let anyone see me or talk to them...” The snake whined “Or hurt them.”
Fresh tears fell down the snake’s scaled cheeks. “Hey now, if anything that was my fault. I wasn’t watching where I was flying.” Ranboo tried to comfort.
“Because of me…” Tommy muttered with a shameful tone.
“It’s not your fault.” Ranboo protested once more. He let out a sigh as the naga seemed to pout. “Look I won’t tell Wilbur, remember?” Well now that he thinks about it, “Or anyone for that matter. I smack into things all the time. Bad eyesight remember? I should’ve at least worn my glasses.” Tommy gave a hum of acknowledgment.
Ranboo swallowed down his fear. He couldn’t believe he was doing this. “Help me check my wing.” Tommy’s slit eyes shot out to meet their own round ones. “Are you sure?”
“Yes, now hurry up before I wimp out.” They laughed. Tommy gave him a small smile and slowly reached out for him. Ranboo barley suppressing a flinch as the warm hands scooped him up. “Now what?” Tommy asked a little unsure of his self.
Ramboo’s heart was pounding. “Just-” He took a deep breath to calm his nerves. “Just pinch my wing and slowly stretch it out. I’ll tell you to stop if it hurts to much.” This was so overwhelming. Ranboo never would’ve imagined that they would’ve been held in another person’s palm. But he could do this.
Tommy ever so gently griped the wing between a finger and thumb and slowly started to pull it out. Ranboo let out a pained whine and nodded for Tommy to continue.
Once it was stretched all the way out Ranboo rotated his shoulder with a hiss. Tommy giggled and Ranboo glance up at him. “It’s just… you sound like me.” That took Ranboo by surprise and he let out a round of chittering laughs.
He gently pulled his wing back to his chest and sighed in relief. “I think it’s just a bad sprain. Wouldn’t be the first time.” Tommy nodded is head and ran his thumb down Ran’s back, trying to be the least bit comforting.
“I’ll go see Ponk when I get back…” Ranboo’s mind blanked. Shoot, how were they gonna get back.
As if reading his mind Tommy answered. “I’ll take you home.” Ranboo looked up a little unsure. “Don’t worry, it wouldn’t be the first time. I like to make sure Will gets back alright.”
“Okay then.” Ranboo agreed. “You have a good grip right?” Tommy asked, Ranboo giving him a confused look. “What?” He laughed.
“With you claws.” The Naga looked at his hurt wing. “Or what’s left of them…” Ranboo gave a nod. He got most of his strength from his back paws anyways.
Tommy lifted Ranboo above his head and gently sat him in the crown of golden curls on top of his head. “Hold on.” That was his only warning before Tommy began crawling through the trees with practiced ease.
“So… How’d you meet Wilbur?” Ranboo asked genuinely curious. They snickered as Tommy let out a long groan.
———————————————————————————
Tommy dropped Ranboo off right at the edge of the brush. Right where he knew the village started. He waited until the remaining guards passed by underfoot to guide him down.
“Thanks for not telling.” Tommy whispered and ruffled their fluffy black and white hair with a finger. Ranboo sputtered in annoyance. “Thanks for not eating me I guess.” They teased back.
Tommy let out a laugh, “Better watch out, I might’ve not made up my mind yet.” Ran giggles as Tommy gave a cheeky grin and stealthy climbed back up into the tree.
Tommy paused before going. “Will I see you again?”
“Of course!” Ranboo shouted before remembering to stay quiet. He quickly looked around for the guards.
They shared a laugh once more before they said their final goodbyes for the night. Both hybrids happy to have found a new friend.
The only worry on Tommy’s mind being that he hoped he could become a better liar by the time Wilbur visited next.

propaganda (under the readmore):
BENCHTRIO PROPAGANDA:
My friend wrote a fanfiction detailing their platonic relationship from childhood friends to spouses. It is over 1 million words long. Pls he needs this
my good friend sunny wrote over 1million words of fanfiction about them that was so good it permanently altered my brain chemistry. also i think the feat of over 1mil words is worth the win (:
Ranboo and Tubbo are canonically married, semi-canonically platonically so. Tubbo and Tommy have known each other for years, and have an understanding of each other that no one else does. Tommy and Ranboo went through a very awkward and begrudging beginning of their friendship, but Ranboo would go on to make Tommy's grave when he died.
I want to start off by stressing that these 3 are characters and are not at all connected to the real world creators that portrayed them aside from having the same name.
c!Ranboo and c!Tubbo were canonically married, with the nature of their marriage being largely ambiguous and up for interpretation! They live together in a mansion with their adopted child, Michael, a tiny baby piglin! c!Tommy was never an official part of their marriage, but the three spent so much time together(before the series' writing took a very unfortunate turn due to behind the scenes stuff) that they might as well have been a qpr polycule! It is confirmed that c!Ranboo(an 8'5 foot tall enderman hybrid) can only look 2 people directly in the eyes with it being STRONGLY implied those 2 people were c!Tommy and c!Tubbo! Their relationship didn't get as much time as it needed due to the series's unfortunate downturn near the end, but while it was there, it was a very comforting, very tender relationship between 3 traumatized young queer teens who were their for one another through their journeys in healing from their various traumas. Also one time c!Tommy and c!Ranboo got high together in a tiny smoke box they made(they also met when Ranboo hit him on the head with a giant flower. An allium, to be specific!).
MAJORWOOD PROPAGANDA:
i went so insane about them they spawned inside my brain, guys ever
They are the Mean Gills and they are canonically qpr!! They would also canonically die for each other
Canon QPR! Confirmed by cc!Martyn :D (he confirmed it on stream after the series ended)
They're canonically a QPR guys!!!! Both the CC's who play the characters have said that they see them as being in a QPR!!!!!! literally the first time ever i've seen any media ever portray a qpr of some sort
someone in Martyn's chat explained what a QPR was and he said "oh that sounds like me and Scott"

Minecraft Tips
or, a list of things about Minecraft that took me forever to figure out, that might not be obvious to new players, or that I just found helpful
Equal parts gravel and dirt can be crafted into coarse dirt, and using a hoe on coarse dirt changes it to normal dirt, so you can effectively change gravel into dirt if you have at least 2 dirt blocks with you
I know the game technically teaches you this BUT: you can cure zombie villagers by hitting them with a splash weakness potion and then feeding them a golden apple. This is an easy way to populate a village you built yourself, I've done it in all my survival worlds. The easiest way to protect newly potioned and appled villagers is to dig a long trench, get the zombie villager to chase you, circle the pit until the villager falls in, and cover the pit so no mobs attack the zombie villager when it changes into a villager.
Killing fish is a pretty good way to get bones. I don't need a skeleton farm because automatic fish farms are probably among the easiest automatic farms to build
drinking milk stops status effects
Tiny slimes can't damage you. You can keep them as pets.
The fastest transportation method is, for some reason, a boat on blue ice. Many horses are faster than powered rails.
Suspicious stew can be crafted, even though it's not part of the creative inventory or recipe book, using the normal recipe for mushroom stew+one flower. Allium gives a couple seconds of fire resistance, poppy gives night vision, cornflower gives jump boost, blue orchids or dandelions give saturation, and oxeye daisy gives regeneration.
A lot of wooden items—fences, doors, bows, fishing poles, and so on—can be used as fuel in furnaces. It's not efficient but it's a good way to get rid of excess items
Sneak to add blocks to the side of a furnace or chest directly. Do y'all have any idea how long this took me to figure it out. (This is also how you add a hopper to a chest.)
gold or iron armor can be melted down into gold and iron nuggets
The fortune enchantment affects sapling drops from trees and crop harvests.
Early in game, smelting copper into ingots is one of the best ways to get XP fast.
Fishing odds are slightly better when it's raining.
When you first get a full set of diamond armor your first instinct may be to wear it on a quest into the Nether. Don't. Take a couple stacks each of gravel/sand and any stone and run repeated suicide missions until you've made a stone shelter around your portal and paths across surrounding lava lakes.
More nether navigation tricks: drop columns of gravel down precipices in the Nether and then add cobblestone to the side of the gravel columns to build stairs from the top down
If your nether portal goes out while you're in the Nether, a Ghast fireball hitting the inside of the frame will relight it. But please don't get caught in the Nether without flint and steel
Lava breaks your fall much like water does, and you can't drown in it, though it's very hard to move in. Fire resistance potions will let you exploit both of these things.
Fill a basalt delta with three- or four-block-high towers of whatever block you like, two blocks apart, in staggered rows. Occasionally place a block on the side of the towers' top blocks. This won't stop magma cubes from spawning, but it will stop the large ones from moving effectively.
Using silk touch to grab the red and blue "turf" layers in Nether forests lets you farm both kinds of giant nether fungi by bone-mealing mushrooms, though the turf colors and mushroom colors have to match up. The growth is unaffected by obstructions above and the fungus "foliage" blocks never decay like leaves do. I have no idea who thought that was a good idea. BUT doing this repeatedly will eventually completely obstruct the "sky", protecting you from Ghasts
Nether fortresses and bastions are found along a "grid" pattern, so when you find one nether fortress you can travel in a straight line to find another fortress or bastion. Villages do the same thing, except when they don't. (Really, how villages spawn is a total mystery to me.)
Bonemealing moss will straight up convert surrounding stone into moss. I have no idea why. Since bone meal can be automated using a dropper iirc, this seems like it could lead to some weird redstone contraptions.
Horses can survive falls that would seriously damage a player.
Animals can and will climb ladders. I don't know why. But if you push a sheep or cow toward a ladder, they will often automatically ascend it. I've used this fact for automatic farms before.
You can name literally anything using an anvil, even if you can't repair or enchant it
Soul sand placed underwater creates bubble columns that shoot you upward. Magma blocks create bubble columns that pull you down. You can breathe in the bubble columns.
Night vision potions, if you've never used one, will also let you see the ocean floor.
A water source block in an "ocean" biome will spawn ocean animals, whether there is room for them there or not. If you change a section of ocean into a one-block-deep pond, you'll still get fish in there
you probably won't like this one but. keep a notebook with the coordinates of important spots it is SO HELPFUL
I'll add more when I think of them. please note that I play bedrock and some of these might not work in java

So since we've all decided Zeb is a Giant Space Cat, I also personally headcanon that things that are toxic to cats are also a problem for Zeb.
Chocolate: can only have white chocolate as it contains no cocoa powder.
Caffeine: maybe he only needs a very small amount, any more than like half a cup of caf makes him sick.
Grapes and Raisins: Literally would put him in the hospital, do not consume. (Kidney failure)
Milk and Dairy: Adult cats become lactose intolerant.
Garlic, Onion, Chive (Alliums): Also would put him in the hospital (breaks down red blood cells/anemia)
Uncooked potato/tomato: makes his stomach hurt really bad (gastrointestinal distress)
Alcohol: So apparently just 2 teaspoons of whiskey can put a 5 pound cat in the hospital, im gonna say Zeb is actually suprisingly a lightweight for alcohol, barely needs any to get insanely drunk.
Citrus fruits (lemon, orange, lime, etc.): Makes his stomach hurt. Also cats typically hate citrus smells, i imagine the smell of citrus makes him gag.
Tree nuts: macadamia are SUPER no go, any other tree nuts causes stomach pain.
Artificial Sweetner: hospital (liver failure)
Sushi: (can have a tiny bit) TOO much raw fish can actually cause convulsions!!
Too much animal fat: stomach ache
Avocado: (high fat content) stomach ache
--------------
What he CAN eat!!!
Any alcohol (in small quantities) that doesnt contain yeast!! (Distilled beverages) this includes brandy, gin, rum, tequila, vodka and whiskey
Cooked meats
Boiled/scrambled eggs
Peeled cucumber
Jogan/Meiloorun fruit
Waffles/ other batter based foods
Brocolli
Peas
Carrots
Bananas
Blueberries
Watermelon
Apple
Rice
Oatmeal
Spinach
------
Lemme know your thoughts on this!

Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5 / Part 6 (you are here) / Part 7
TWS: animal death, graphic violence
Phil is home.
That is to say, he is somewhere. But for him, home is anywhere he happens to be. The world itself. Sure, he has his base at the center of the world, but that's just where he keeps all of his most important things. Artifacts and items and creatures he doesn't want to risk losing. He can be at home there or in the End or the Nether or the bottom of the ocean or the top of a mountain thousands of blocks away.
It is in his nature to explore, to search, to fly free. He'd be a poor excuse of a crow if he couldn't bring home with him wherever he wanders.
All of this to say, Phil is home, and he has found some sniffers.
Big, lumbering creatures with yellow snouts and curious appetites. They're gentle giants, slow and patient and kind. The moss on their backs is soft to the touch.
Phil brings them somewhere safe and pens them in, lights up the area, makes sure they are fed and comfortable and safe. As he is picking flowers for their enclosure, he decides on names.
Daisy. Allium. Tallulah.
Those are good names.
He watches them, cares for them. Enjoys their company.
"Hahaha."
Phil has never let another person in his home before.
He turns very slowly.
"What are you doing?"
Taking care. Keeping safe. Being a good father.
"Hahaha."
The bear points up.
There is lava cascading from the sky.
He steps back. He's surrounded. The sniffers are panicking.
He tries to bring them to the center of the enclosure, but they don't listen to him. They keep braying and crying out. The lava is closing in. The walls do nothing to stop it. He reaches for Tallulah.
His daughter.
The flower is wilting.

"A CAGE FOR A CAGE."
Phil wakes up when he lands on the floor.
He must have rolled off the rafters.
He reaches into his bag and takes out the book.
And rips
it
to
shreds.
Phil is crying.
He can't stop.
He can't breathe.
He wants to go home.
He wants his kids back.
Phil looks at his kids' things for the first time.
There is a bird on Tallulah's hat.
Phil gets up.
The bird doesn't move. Is used to him by now.
That belongs to his daughter.

And tiny

What has he done?
What has he done?
He takes out the water bucket and dunks his hands in.
Doesn't take them out.
He can't breathe.
Can't think.
Can't take his hands out of the water to clutch his child's last remnant because there is blood on his hands and it's his fault they're gone and he fell for a stupid trap and he deserves this he deserves this no one is coming for him and he's alone and he's stupid and worthless and he doesn't know what to do.
Phil lets his hands grow cold.

I was tagged by @elsie-writes !
This is the last thing I wrote, though certainly not line by any means, it's a whole scene, but I felt like sharing the whole thing. Sorry I suppose. Narul having his first experience with oysters in Makora.
This is from Book 2
Narul turned in a circle. Stands sold various kinds of bread, alongside dried meats, sausages, and more of that mysterious yellow substance. One particular stand caught his attention. Arranged on the wooden plank which constituted the counter, were strange cups or containers, slightly flat and misshapen. Inside each was some strange pearly white thing, swimming in a clear liquid of sorts. Narul had never seen the likes of them before, though he thought the cups were somewhat familiar. He approached the vendor, an elderly man, his hands calloused and crooked. “Um, what are these?” He gestured at the strange fare. “Oysters…” The old man muttered uncertainly. Narul had heard about oysters from Istek, the old sailor had craved them incessantly, though he had never quite managed to get his hands on them. Oysters were a rarity in Labisa, a product which required the molluscs to be shipped over great distances by foot and boat, a delicacy available only to the most elite. Hutbari had never been particularly fond of shellfish, as such Narul had never had the opportunity to see them. “Are they…cooked?” He asked uncertainly. The vendor blinked. “No?” The old man seemed confused. Narul shuffled awkwardly. He seemed to remember that Istek had said they were eaten raw. His stomach growled. “Worth a try.” Bop said with a chuckle. Narul had no idea how much a single oyster cost. After a moment of hesitation, he placed one of the silver coins on the counter. The vendor’s eyes widened. Immediately he started to prepare the shellfish, sprinkling them with some sort of dried seaweed, some sort of chopped allium, and a yellow oil that Narul was unfamiliar with. Before Narul could stop him the old man had already prepared no less than two dozen. The old man bowed and waited anxiously for Narul to eat. “Do…Do I eat all of it?” Narul asked Bop. “I don’t know, I’ve never eaten before.” The spirit replied. Narul grimaced. He lifted one of the cups to his mouth, and after a beat, tossed the whole thing into his mouth. He quite enjoyed the flavor, briny and yet somewhat sweet, the seaweed added some much needed contrast and slight vegetal note. He was not a fan, however, of the shell. He had no issue crunching through the brittle material, his powerful jaw rendering it to a chalky dust, however its taste was somewhat bitter and coated his tongue. When he looked at the vendor, the old man’s face had gone pale, his jaw was slack, eyes bugged from his skull. “I don’t think you were supposed to eat the bottom part.” Bop laughed. “Oh…” Narul muttered out loud. He sheepishly scooped up the rest of the oysters, balancing them in his hands as he shuffled away to find somewhere he could eat them. It took some time for the giant to master the art of eating them. At first he tried to place the entire morsel into his mouth, to remove the edible part with his tongue and then spit out the shell like an olive pit. He then switched to plucking each individual mollusc from its shell, though the tiny delicate bits of flesh were far too delicate and slippery, and wound up either in the dirt or squashed between his index finger and thumb just as often as they found their way to his mouth. Finally, he stopped to watch how the locals ate them, sliding them from the shells into their mouths, slurping them like wine from a cup. He dumped the empty shells onto a nearby pile of waste. The shellfish had been tasty, though they hardly satisfied his hunger. He started to look for something else to eat when his search was interrupted by a booming roar which echoed from the direction of docks. “You!”

"just trap 'em in a box and make them think about their actions" — ranboo
Howdy lovelies! This isn’t a story from any of my other au’s, this was just a one shot that was inspired by a prompt from @brick-a-doodle-do ! Thanks sm for the prompt btw, I loved writing this! Also, I do have another prompt from @lycaclientt (much thanks to you too :D) so expect another one shot soon!
without further ado here’s the story (I love allium duo sm :))
tw ~ very minor fear, misunderstandings, being trapped, twitter
word count ~ 1.2k
“No no nonono, wait we can talk about this, please,”
The blonde teenager backed away from the giant, keeping his eyes locked on the huge ones just a few feet away.
The giant teenager made no indication of hearing him though, only staring at him, a predatory gaze. Tommy couldn’t see his mouth from the white and black mask Ranboo always wore, but he could tell the giant was smirking at him.
Both of them had just finished a stream. It wasn’t too long, but during that time Tommy had made it his goal to annoy ranboo as much as possible. The problem was that now the stream has ended and left them with no witnesses as Ranboo thought up his revenge plan.
Suddenly, the masked streamer lunged at Tommy, catching him off guard long enough to stop him from dodging out of the way of giant hands.
The blonde shrieked as hands as tall as him wrapped around his body, constricting his arms and legs. He struggled in the grasp, but it did nothing to stop Ranboo from lifting him off the ground with ease.
“PUT ME DOWN NOW, OR I SWEAR I’LL-“
Ranboo tuned out Tommy’s screams as he looked around the room for something he could use to get back at Tommy.
The squirming and yelling in his hand stayed strong as he searched. Tommy had a remarkable amount of energy constantly. Hopefully, this would keep him tired for a while after this.
There.
In the corner of the room there was a box, nothing fancy, just a medium-sized Amazon box from whatever he’d ordered last. He walked over to it, picking it up with his free hand and walking it back to the center of the room.
Ranboo dropped to the ground, sitting cross-legged in front of the innocent-looking box. Tommy gave an indignant squeak as the floor became closer at a terrifying speed.
The box was perfect for Ranboo’s plan. Carelessly, he opened up the flaps and dropped Tommy in. Not enough to cause any damage, just from high enough to make him stumble on the cardboard floor of his new room.
Tommy yelled obscenities at him as the box was closed, making sure there was enough airflow and light from a small space at the top. He also did a mental check to make sure Tommy wouldn’t be able to reach that skylight.
The layer of cardboard muffled the insults enough to still hear his voice but not make out what he was saying. Perfect.
Ranboo chuckled behind his mask as Tommy hit against the sides of the box, demanding to be let out. His commands were denied, as Ranboo just watched in sly amusement. His revenge was complete.
“Scream all you want. This is definitely deserved. "
“I AM THE BIGGEST MAN AND I WILL DESTROY ALL YOUR STREAMING EQUIPMENT! I KNOW WERE YOU SLEEP!”
“If you don’t stop yelling, then I know where you’ll be sleeping too.”
Tommy squawked, outraged at this utter disrespect on his big man status. Although, after a few seconds, he did quiet down. Whether it was from realizing the yelling wouldn’t get him out or the legendary Tommyinnit was finally out of energy, Ranboo didn’t know. But, if he had to guess, it was most likely the latter.
After staring at the box for a few more seconds, expecting the tiny in the box to ignite with rage once more, Ranboo looked up and froze.
They were still live on twitch.
It wasn’t that bad. Ranboo still had his mask on and he didn’t think he’d done anything too embarrassing these last few minutes… except boxing Tommy.
Chat was going wild on the screen. If he looked closely, he could see some of the things they were saying:
TOMMY NOO!
haha get boxed
F in the chat for the raccoon
F
RANBOO WTH
F
is Tommy ok???
FERALBOO
RANBOO WENT CRAZY!
RIP child
F
It seemed chat had seen the whole thing, from Ranboo’s lunge to Tommy’s struggles and it looked like they got the wrong idea about it.
This wasn’t the first time the two size differing streamers had done this. It was common for Ranboo to grab and mess with Tommy. It was even enjoyed from Tommy’s perspective. It was just how they showed affection.
But the problem was, they only fought like this off stream. It wasn’t like it was bad or anything; it was just that they already get weird looks and side eyes from people when Ranboo messes with Tommy in public.
Because of Tommy’s nature of screaming bloody murder and the sheer difference in size, people often assumed that Tommy was uncomfortable or in danger. Ranboo didn’t want to deal with angry twitter users trying to cancel him for that.
Ranboo quickly composed himself, box still in hand, and decided to try and fix this.
“Hey chat, didn’t see you there,”
He felt Tommy go still for a moment, now aware they were being watched.
“Your probably wondering why I put Tommy in a box…”
A chorus of questions and exclamations flooded the chat still, fast enough that he couldn’t read any.
“Well, he was being a chaotic gremlin during stream, so sometimes you just trap 'em in a box and make them think about their actions. He deserved it.”
“HEY!”
Tommy quickly got over the shock of stream being left on and went back to yelling at Ranboo, now fueled by the rage of being called a gremlin. Chat seemed to split in 3 parts, between the chatters either laughing at Tommy, agreeing with Ranboo or telling Ranboo to release him.
Later that night, once the stream really did end, Ranboo picked up his phone and sat on the couch next to Tommy. He went to scroll mindlessly on twitter until he noticed that he got very popular all of a sudden.
That was never a good sign.
He started reading through what people were saying about him before suddenly groaning, slumping onto the cushion next to him right behind Tommy.
Tommy looked at his giant friend, confused, until he glanced at the giant phone screen that was placed in front of him.
Loud wheezing laughter filled the room, louder than Ranboo’s groaning.
Apparently people had started debating about Ranboo being a bad person for how he’d treated Tommy, a tiny.
“This isn’t fair,”
“HAHA GET WRECKED!”
“They’re acting like I tortured you earlier.”
“Look how many people love me more than you!”
“They’re treating you like a kicked puppy.”
Back and forth conversation echoed throughout the home as the two streamers messed with each other like always, not caring about the battlefield of twitter.
Ranboo would need to clear some things up online soon. Obviously, he didn’t want to seem like someone who doesn’t care about tinies. Many of his fans and friends were tinies who were defending him!
But for right now, he just enjoyed the night, and if chat noticed the increase of physical contact and jokes between the two, Ranboo and Tommy didn’t care.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ hope you enjoyed! I hope to write more of these soon, and I’m always open to prompts or ideas you want me to write! :)
here's my distracting ask <3
what flower and what months would you assign to gangsey🤨
i really appreciate this !! <3
gansey: sunflower (he is the sun, my baby boy, his favorite sweater is yellow. he’s the happiest flower) & august but like specifically late august (it’s warm & i associate it with freedom but late august has some weather variation and mystery to it. also this idea of running out of time)
adam: orchid (very tricky, particular flower. incredibly beautiful and i always kind of think how the hell did it get that tall when it doesn’t have that much support and looks to delicate. but they’re tougher than you think) & september (he’s just a fall boy. idk)
ronan: lupine (this is entirely based on the children’s book the lupine lady. something about spreading seeds. something about coming back year after year. legacy. a wild flower that is unpredictable but so beautiful) & june (yeah i’m giving him pride month. what about it)
blue: snowdrop (first sign of spring. they’re pretty and small. they come back every year & multiply. power in numbers. it’s just her) & april (i just think blue is spring time. she’s newness & growth)
noah: forget me nots (the name. the fact that they spread. they are such a simple flower but they’re so pretty.) & november (noah just seems like a winter guy to me. also he’s cold all the time already so this is an excuse to be under fifty blankets all the time. also i think he’d like winter festivities/activities)
henry: giant allium (this is a very extra flower. they’re flashy and you’re like wow cool. but they also grow really tall so other plants/flowers can grow underneath) & july (leo seasonnnn. he’s just the most leo leo to ever leo so he is july.)
