Eddie had done this often enough that the last person he expected to see at the door was a well-built dude with some sports jersey on. 

“Oh hey.” Sports Guy said, not looking remotely surprised to see them (nor was he hysterical, panicking, nervous, rushing Eddie inside or doing anything people normally did when it came to a home haunting.) “Eddie right? With Hellfire?” 

“That’s me.” Eddie said, giving a dorky little tug at his shirt, right over the Hellfire Hunters emblem, and regretted it immediately. 

“Come in.” Sports Guy said, stepping aside with a wave. 

His house wasn’t quite a mansion, but it was enormous, and Eddie could barely listen as Sports Guy began giving a run through of the layout of his home. 

“It mostly stays outside, but we’ve caught it in the house a few times.” He was saying as he went, pointing out various things that sounded an awful lot more like Eddie was here to catch a racoon than a ghost. 

Halfway through his spiel a literal herd of children, led by a curly headed kid who shrieked “Steve! Don’t catch it without me!” before shooting down some stairs, and Eddie become concerned some wires had been crossed.

“You understand you hired ghost hunters, right? We’re here to…” Eddie paused, because for the first time in his life, it felt so stupid to say what he did for a living. “Hunt ghosts?” 

“I know. Dustin--that’s the curly haired kid that just ran by--brought it home by accident. The kids named it Dart but it keeps ruining my rhododendrons. 

“Your--rhododendrons?” 

Steve nodded, face serious. “I’m in line for winning the county's best garden prize at the fair this year. Check in is in a month. If I replace any more flowers with store bought ones they’re gonna disqualify me.” 

Steve the Sports Guy lived in a giant fricken house, with a buttload of children, and was worried about a ghost haunting his flowers. 

Eddie wasn’t sure what the hell he’d just fallen into, but he was desperate to learn more. 

Not just because Steve was the hottest man he had ever seen in his life. 

(...Maybe because Steve was the hottest man Eddie had seen in his life but who could blame him? Those biceps, god!)

it's officially the start of spooky season (TO ME) and i was struck by the urge to craft an actual cover for my beloved ghosthunters steddie fic. they are dork ass losers, the pining is mutual, and steve wears glasses in this one.

“It’s the witching hour,” Eddie says spookily. He’s come up behind Steve, pressing close and wiggling his fingers on Steve’s shoulders.

Steve huffs a laugh and starts double checking his pockets for his share of the gear. Something to focus on that’s not the way Eddie’s breath ruffles his hair and skims over his cheek, raising goosebumps in its wake.

It’s not like he doesn’t like the attention, the closeness, the physicality of Eddie. He does. Probably too much. Especially since they’re just friends. Steve knows he’s not special to be on the receiving end, it’s how Eddie is with everyone.

steddie buzzfeed unsolved au. the boys explore various true crime cases and supposedly haunted sites across the country and fall in love along the way (not to imply anything abt shane and ryan /gen) ive seen a few but they all get one key detail wrong: steve is shane, eddie is ryan.

eddie is passionate about all of their cases— he started the show, originally with his friend gareth who decided to pursue other opportunities. he wholeheartedly believes in all the things that go bump in the night. he is also a self proclaimed coward who tends to scream, curse or even flee when shit gets real. he’s dedicated to the cause though and works through his fear

steve is passionate too, of course — he absolutely pulls his weight in the show and cares a lot abt it all and is genuinely very proud of their content. he just… doesnt believe in the supernatural. its all bullshit, so there’s nothing to be scared of. he takes joy in calling all sorts of ghosts, ghouls and demons “nerd ass punk losers who get no bitches” and doing comedically deranged shit like stealing a bridge or laying on a pentagram or whatever while eddie hyperventilates across the room

except the upside down shit all still happened (excluding eddie, obviously) so steve is 100% aware of the supernatural shit that does exist in the world. after alternate hell dimensions, he wouldnt Really be surprised by ghosts, though he is genuinely sceptical of most evidence.

eddie is infinitely confused by his cohost — he staunchly rejects even the most damning supernatural evidence, but he is a member of the most bizarre group of people eddie has ever met. and he’s superstitious abt the weirdest shit as well — flickering lights, faulty magnets, broken compasses. he once hurried them out of a building during an investigation because they heard a weird clicking sound, spent about 15 minutes on the phone with someone called owens to confirm that “everything was still shut off” (and what the actual fuck does that even mean????) before apologising for the ‘false alarm’ and suggesting they just continue the investigation and cut all that shit from the video. it was the first time any of the crew, including eddie, had ever seen steve scared.

eventually, once theyre together, steve tells eddie about his own experiences with the supernatural, with a handy demonstration from el to really sell it. eddie is horrified, especially when steve tells him he still doesnt believe in demons.

It’s the second time the 118 responds to a call involving Christa Allen that Buck figures out she’s being haunted by a ghost. 

Specifically, the ghost of her fiance’s ex-bride. 

He first meets her at a wedding dress boutique. He first spots eyes on a brown haired, brown eyed woman in a wedding dress huddled up with a group of champagne tipsy women outside the shop, all with tears in their eyes as they wait for them to assess the scene. 

According to Bobby there’s no sign of what caused the fire. Just that it started near where Christa was showing off the dress she chose for her wedding. A dress that is now partially ruined since the train is now charred. 

“This is supposed to be a one of a kind dress! And now it’s ruined! What am I supposed to wear for my wedding now?” Christa cries out as Hen checks her vitals for any other signs of burning or smoke inhalation. From the way Hen is rolling her eyes, Buck can tell she’s waiting for this call to end as quickly as possible.

“I’m sure you’ll find another dress just as perfect. And your partner will look at you as if you’re the most beautiful person in the entire world.” 

A window shatters the second Hen finishes her sentence. Christa and Emily, her best friend and maid of honor, scream as they cuddle towards each other. “You don’t think-”

“Shut up, Em!”

Buck raises his eyebrow but doesn’t ask. They’re tipsy and have been through something traumatic. People say interesting things when he’s on these types of scenes. He puts it out of his mind for the time being.

Then when he sees Christa Allen again at a wedding venue, he puts two and two together.

Buddie ghost hunters AU a la Watcher’s Ghost Files where Buck is the believer and Eddie is the skeptic. They have a huge YouTube following and everyone is convinced they’re dating.

They have a huge fan base and even though the actual ghost hunting videos get 3-4 million videos it’s often their debrief videos that get the fans talking because of the casual touches, the flirting, and the fact that Chris occasionally makes an appearance and for years people weren’t sure whose kid he was.

People also love the debriefs because that’s when you learn about their lives outside if ghost hunting. Here are some facts that fans have learned from the debriefs and TikTok that aren’t them on ghost hunt:

Before they were ghost hunters they were firefighters. That’s how Buck and Eddie met and their first few videos make while they were still with the LAFD

Eddie is scared of snakes and Buck loves to tease him about it.

They definitely share clothes

Eddie is a widow

Buck claims to have seen a ghost during his quote unquote hoe phase

Chris calls them both dad (fans later figured out that was to mess with them because he saw the comments asking which one was his dad)

They end up accidentally revealing they’re married when Buck gets super freaked out when they’re at a haunted firehouse and Eddie breaks his skeptic character to comfort him. They end up making out outside of the building and a fan catches it on video.

They’re actually pretty relieved for it to be public, especially Buck since he can hold Eddie’s hand when he’s scared now.

Jeff stepped up to stand behind Gareth. The last of the party, a guy simply known as The Freak, stood off to the side and watched almost confused. His eyes were locked on the forest at the end of the Harrington’s yard. “It’s creepy out here,” was all Eddie could string together. Gareth slapped Eddie’s arm, “Good! That’s what we want! Maybe you should do your stupid little speech out here.” “Fuck you, man. There’s something very real here and we’re not just going to make a joke of it.” Though the response was said to Gareth, Eddie needed the motivation more. They were going to be the ones to do this! Eddie hadn’t been afraid before this moment but he could pull it together. He wasn’t some childish freshman. He wanted something to be here and if he wanted his evidence it was going to come at a cost. Which might be more than he wanted to pay right now but he just needed to collect himself.
