*banging fists on table* more mentally ill characters in stories that aren't just about them being mentally ill! More mentally ill characters in sci-fi, in fantasy, in romance and fun and high stakes situations and everything in between, as the heroes, as complex individuals, multifaceted and treated with respect, not having their needs and differences ignored or skirted around but, again, not having them be their only trait or plot point/entire premise! Please, I'm begging, on my hands and knees, there's a place for these topics and characters in realistic, reflective and literary fiction, yeah, but there's also a place in those magical, mystical, action packed, mysterious and alien worlds, give them to ME

I LOVE when a character is at least 200-300 hundreds old and they TALK like one, too. Thinking of Astarion, Halsin, Dracula (in all media, but I am especially fond of Castlevania and Penny Dreadful ones), Alucard, The Outsider (yes, hi, he's 1500 years old God). My fav pals.
All of them coming up with such exquisite compliments, insults, and general comments. L O V E that.

I know this is a very unoriginal observation (much like any other), but I'm finally reading The Great Gatsby, and even I wouldn't describe men the way Nick does.

Will anybody be interested if I made a list of adult transmasc and Nonbinary/transneutral main/major characters in adult fantasy and Science Books.
Because I'm legit sick of the infantilisation both within and outside the community. Why is so much of the NB and transmasc rep children 😭.
Even outside of the miniscule rep Even less of it are grown adult main characters. None of that side character's love interest is a trans dude business, or a they/them appears for one page and is never seen again.
Anyway I've got a handful of characters in books I've read/on my TBR and I want to share them with others looking for this kind of rep.

the trouble with learning a minority language is that once you've hit the upper-intermediate stage of actually reading books in the language and so on, it doesn't take very long to exhaust the books at your level that you have any interest in whatsoever, and then there aren't any more. so you read the ones you're not really interested in, but that feels like Work, because you're not really interested in them. but it doesn't exactly get better as you get more advanced because even the more difficult books tend not to correspond too closely to your preferred genres

“When I felt my stomach, my womb, my breasts and sternum, I saw that they didn’t just hold my memories, they held the rage and pain and isolation, the joy and passion and lust, of the women before me. My body remembered my mother’s life experiences and my grandmother’s and her mother’s before her. I felt the violations and indiscretions, the reverence and longings, from unfathomable years back.”

Organisation names in bsd fall into three categories: most basic literal description you can think of, one word name that is sort of cool I guess, and the sickest sounding thing ever.
Like okay we have the Weaponised Investigator Company and the City Mob or something. And then their rivals are named the Decay of the Angel, Order of the Clock Tower and Poets of Malefic Badassery.
Like come on are you trying to drive the theatre kids to Europe? What do you wanna be, a Rat in the House of the Dead or *checks notes* member of the Rich Guy Guild.

it’s extremely funny to me that casey mcquiston, mid-intense taylor swift hatred era, accidentally created the most taylor-coded character that has ever been conceived in the form of his royal highness henry fox 😭

She Who Became The Sun deserves so much more attention like. Tumblr. This book is made for you.
It’s got gay stuff! Cross dressing! Gender Fuckery! Overthrowing the government! Wlw-centered romance! Supportive found family! War crimes! And it’s a genuinely fascinating and engaging narrative.
Why don’t more people read this book?
