ok buckle in this one is long. i just had an AU idea that's maybe not super original but IS so funny. to me.     henry tries to kill gansey in the TRK house because his seondeok-based intention is to Stop The Tomb From Opening or whatever right. and gansey is not the innocent sweetheart he's portraying himself as and has a LARGE mental library of sigils and portents. and in like an unthinking self defense mechanism he draws out a magic symbol with the specific intent of Henry Can't Kill Me .     except they both arrived at this random ass house on the ley line together and neither of them realized the previous owners did a LOT of work under the carpet and the blood+intent+desperation mixed in with the sigils already on the ground end up binding Henry & gansey into a thing which is like. they HAVE to be in proximity and if one dies the other ALSO dies. essentially an old timey witch couple marriage contract.    it's not ENTIRELY evil there’s this goal to like wake *a* king that will fulfill the rules of the bond (bc gansey was thinking about glendower, obviously, except glendwr is dead so they need to find some other poor gwenllian-esque soul). and henrys absolutely distraught he’s shaking he’s like I WAS SUPPOSED TO GO TO OXFORD......and ganseys like well we can take a gap year. and henrys like I AM NOT WHITE YOU TERRIBLE MAN. WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME. gansey sheepishly admits its technically a marriage contract and henry falls to his knees like YOU MARRIED ME WITHOUT MY CONSENT...... and ganseys like listen please i met you last week and you tried to kill me this week i dont want this either. my girlfriend will come with us btw. we’ll make a road trip out of it itll be great. and henrys in actual tears

More infos on Revival Rounds

After this Round ends we'll have a short hiatus from the main tournament for 4 one-day revival rounds. We will start with the losers of round 1 of the main tournament and work up from there until 4 characters comes on top and join the competition. It will be organised like this:

Round 1: 4 polls of 8 (32 round 1 losers)

-> top 2 of each poll go up (8 total)

Round 2: 4 polls of 6 (16 round 2 losers + 8)

-> top 2 of each poll go up (8 total)

Round 3: 4 polls of 4 (8 round 3 losers + 8)

-> top 2 of each poll go up (8 total)

Round 4: 4 polls of 3 (4 round 4 losers + 8)

-> top 1 of each poll go back to the main tournament for the quarter finales!

actually not giving ronan any pov chapters in TRB was an inspired choice (first of all because ronans dreams could NOT be kept secret if we saw into his head) but mainly because noahfence to gansey and blue but ronan’s story overshadows theirs by miles and miles like if maggie first said ‘hey theres this guy who can pull things out of his dreams (he dreamed his baby brother)’ and then tried to get me to care about some not-psychic girl and the rich guy obsessed with a dead king i would be like ummmmmmm no thank you can we get back to the gay irish catholic dream wizard instead

since it’s been over two years since i last did one of these, below the cut you will find all my current (regular) tabletop characters (for those who find such things interesting):

starfinder

starmistress britta makee (NG human solarian), the sometimes-captain of the outland ranger, flagship of the dreaded space pirates known as the reapers. she’s actually an npc i took over after my soldier died (praise be, playing a melee-only soldier in starfinder is so fucking boring) so i didn’t make britta myself. she’s the crown princess from a planet that, due to some fucky radiation shit, produces a lot of insanely high-level witchwarpers, but she didn’t want to be one herself so she sat in a magic chair that made her a jedi. then she was kidnapped and trafficked to be sold as a slave, at which point the intrepid party rescued her (and my poor brave soldier perished while defending her, rest in pieces). because she comes from a low-tech, high-magic planet she...actually doesn’t know what a starship is. or a computer. which is not ideal for this setting. but she makes do, especially because she has a really fancy magic knife.

currently, britta and the reapers have been commissioned as privateers by a deposed emperor to overthrow his sister, the empress, by terrorizing the colony planets and telling them that the former emperor is the only one who can offer protection from the Big Scary Pirates; in the process we’ve also taken bounties from his sister the empress, the presidents of two colony planets, and the pirate king to bring in these other pirates who were terrorizing the colony planets, but we’re planning to fake their deaths and hire them as part of our crew instead. we’re double-crossing like six people. if this works we’ll be gods.

pathfinder 2e

electra godstongue (NG half-elf oracle of flames): she’s still around and kickin’! the circus is going strong, although at the moment they’re on a performing hiatus because some pterodactyls ate part of our tent, which was incredibly rude of them, honestly. in the meantime we’re helping to defend a small town that’s under siege by some big lizard dudes who ride dinosaurs. as a part of that we went spelunking in some sea caves, where we might end up going toe-to-toe with a great old one. so. that’s fine. also, if the campaign ends up where i think it’s going, we might literally become gods.

electra also holds the current record at our table for the highest damage number from a single turn of combat: seven zombies, a seventh-level sunburst spell, and some especially generous dice resulted in a whopping 959 damage. our two healers also had the same spell (16d10 against undead!) and we cleared out the entire room in three turns.

gwenllian (NG human witch), and her raven familiar, sir richard campbell gansey iii. yes i did steal their names from the raven cycle. she’s a new character, created for a mini-campaign, and she’s in charge of party healing despite being...not a healer. if you come to her asking to get your wounds patched up, she’ll rub some dirt on it—literally. but it’s magic dirt, so it works.

she’s a little bit feral, keeps sticking random twigs in her pockets, and no one can figure out if she’s actually just a druid who thinks she’s a witch, but she brews good potions and she’s brave and/or stupid enough to volunteer to sneak into an orc stronghold and assassinate their king, so she’ll work! (even if she does talk to her raven a lot. but also, the raven talks back, or so says the actual druid, who claims to be able to understand him. she and the druid are the only party members who speak sylvan.)

álmos szarka (CN half-elf thaumaturge): another new character, this time for society play! they’ll be debuting this weekend. they’re definitely a traveling wizard* who’s selling 100% authentic talismans** and who you should definitely give your money to***. also, álmos is their government name, but if that’s too hard to remember they’ll happily answer to dream. (not actually related to sandman.) they’re a member of the vigilant seal faction of the pathfinders, so they’re mostly dedicated to tracking down and sealing away or destroying dangerous magical artifacts and creatures; being from irrisen, which has been ruled by winter witches for the last fourteen centuries, they’re appropriately wary of anything magic. despite that, it seems like no matter what they come across, they have the perfect piece of cold iron or saint’s knucklebone or spell scroll to counter it tucked away somewhere in their voluminous coat.

also they’re the Lore Guy, despite having an intelligence of +0. they roll charisma for their lore. they’re full of shit, basically, but really good at convincing you they know what they’re talking about.

Blue Sargent

See the thing about the Raven Cycle is that while I did quite enjoy the books I barely remember a thing that actually happens in them, so I had to do some reading on what actual powers, if any, she had, and how that might show up in d&d. Because her abilities are innate and kind of passive I considered Sorcerer (or Paladin for the auras, but that would be an example of right mechanic, way wrong flavor) but I think she’d be best as a bard because bardic inspiration would work nicely for her ability to boost the magical abilities of others plus it would compliment her strong personality well. I’d probably use the custom lineage tools from Tasha’s to fuck around with a wood elf for her being half tree and all.

Bonus on how I’d do some of the other characters since I feel like I didn’t do her that well:

Gansey: human noble paladin oath of the ancients

Ronan: half elf or kalashtar divine soul sorcerer/druid circle of dreams multiclass

Adam: human divination wizard/druid circle of dreams multiclass

(send me a character and I’ll tell you how I’d build them in d&d!!)

was gonna try and do multiple characters in one post but nope! i have too much to say. also the pictures are all different sizes so its rly hard to get the photoset to look appealing, so we’re starting w/ blue. and also a colored pic of what adam looks like when he’s not a deer. boy’s tryin not to stand out. which goes great up for him right up until it doesn’t. lmao. i’ll talk a bit about him too w/ stuff that didnt get mentioned in the starter post about him and gansey, but this is mostly gonna be about blue. 

SO. 

there’s this fey entity, right? i don’t have a name for them, but they’re not...they didnt START the fey/human conflict, but they are benefiting from it, politically speaking? and when maura was younger, despite other witches being like “girl dont choose sides, we’re witches, we guard boundaries but we don’t choose sides,” was hotheaded and brash and went “ok but fuck that though” and one thing led to another and she ended up getting a curse on her firstborn. Oops. that’s where the kissing curse comes from, here; i’ll get into that much later in a text post probably but gansey’s survivor’s guilt thing doesnt come from him actually dying in this au it’s from something Else, but blue will still kill him if she kisses him, just, for different reasons, it’s an actual curse this time and not something to do with the nature of who they both are. 

her father’s still a tree light, but like, she actually knows that from the outset? because. they live in cabeswater. the tree lights are all around and accept her as one of their own even if she can’t turn into a tree, and as a result of that, she’s got some cool perks. 

a) extremely resistant and/or outright immune to a Lot of fey bullshit 

b) still boosts psychic energies and magical powers like in canon

c) the absolute safest person to be traveling in cabeswater ever, because the forest itself loves her, and also if you mess with her within the borders of cabeswater a bunch of tree lights will physically manifest and be like “hey buddy wanna think twice about that”

but she can’t use magic herself, still, which actually works in the favor of herself and the coven--witchcraft is in a sort of weird spot, culturally, where it’s both feared and often hated, but also understood to at times be necessary, especially by rural peoples like those of the village. im taking a very discworld spin on the witchcraft, because i love discworld and you can’t stop me, and so the attitude is, like. its frightening ancient magic and the church hates it but when there’s an emergency and someone’s on the border between life and death, or something is trying to pass into this world from another, etc etc etc, then you gotta suck it up and call on a witch because they’re the only ones who can deal with those things. so. the coven is tolerated, both because it’s too big and powerful to actually fight but also because it’s extremely needed when you live in a village right next door to fey lands. you NEED someone watching the border. however that doesn’t mean anyone wants to be seen publicly talking to a witch--but blue’s not a witch. she’s a witch’s daughter, but she’s not a witch herself, which is a step removed enough that she can go into town and run errands and also people will maybe pull her discretely aside and tell her if something’s coming up that the coven should know about, and it all works very neatly with her acting as a sort of liaison. very important role she plays, which is why gansey tries talking to her after his initial attempt to speak with the coven directly fails. 

speaking of the coven itself: i’ve been calling it the fox way coven, even tho it probably wouldn’t be called that because there’s no road called fox way that the coven is built on, it’s a big magic house out in the fairy forest, BUT they do have a fox theme because i love foxes and this is a gift i have been given. if people have familiars in this coven, they’re foxes rather than cats, because as wonderful as cats are u cant have them and foxes in the same house that will go bad. but also there’s a v small number of them, like maybe three or four total out of the much higher number of women living there, who are fey blooded like adam, but who become foxes rather than adam’s deer. persephone is one of these! (it’s worth noting the reason why they become the same animal is because of a combination of coincidence, intentional theming, and mostly just because like, virtually all of the residents there aside from persephone are related to either maura or calla) 

anyway the point is, because of this, blue’d seen enough feyblood transformations that when, one day when she was 9 or 10, on a visit to town, she saw the most distressed, disoriented fawn wobbling around frantically and was able to very quickly recognize that that was, in fact, a person who had probably turned into a deer for the first time, and responded by very calmly informing him that she knew who could help and leading him home. this is where those last two pictures come from, and how adam’s apprenticeship started. 

like, there was a lot of arguing from the witches immediately--of course we’re going to teach him how to become human again but we aren’t really going to take him on in the coven are we? he’s a boy, he’s some local kid we know nothing about, what happened to keeping it in the family, he’s the wrong animal and we’ve got a whole thing going on--at which point persephone parted everyone like the red sea, took one look at adam, went “mine now” and despite a lot of grumbling that was the end of it. she took him on a bit of a tour of cabeswater a few days later, after he’d had time to think it over, and he felt so drawn to the forest that he agreed to the apprenticeship.

so he’s technically persephone’s apprentice but like in actual practice he’s being taught by the entire coven lmao, ANYWAY

adam being adam also had a backup plan for trying to get out of the village--even at ten he figured witchcraft might be a first way out of there, he was already thinking about it, but by thirteen when the good ole abuse started (and at which point the last whispers of dissent died out very quickly amongst the coven, nope, adam is one of us now, do you want us to very threateningly hang out in your front yard sometime because we can do that--what do you mean no, let us do this,) he was also like. i dont think this is a guarantee of getting out of here i need a second job. and the thing is, as was mentioned in the original post, the fey blood also means adam’s got issues with iron; it’ll poison him if he’s stabbed with it but it also reacts to his skin touching it like a hot stove. he’s fine if there’s a layer between his skin and the iron, but if he touches it directly, it’s Bad. so ofc this headstrong idiot takes an open spot a t a metalworker’s in the village because adam is the king of making bad decisions. the witches have a betting pool on how long it’ll take him to out himself. “its fine i’ll wear gloves,” he says. “it’s the perfect disguise no one will expect someone with fey connections to work near so much iron,” he says. “i have everything perfectly under control,” he says.

anyway he totally forgets to wear gloves before grabbing an iron tool while his dad and his boss are both in the store and in clear view of him and that’s why he was getting chased by hunters when gansey rescued him 

also he and blue tried dating when they were like 13-14 and it ended about as badly as in canon and they made up later and by the time the story starts they’ve settled into very much being weird siblings. adam starts hanging out with gansey initially to try and basically spy on him, figure out why he’s here, but ends up rly liking the guy and deciding his reasons are sincerely to try and help people, and he tells this to blue who starts immediately accusing him of having a crush on the lordling and being a class traitor, because she does NOT like gansey at this point and really the nobility all prefer wizards to witches which is a stupid idiot decision and frankly the fact that this lordling is apparently enamored by some random deer is hilarious to her, but even moreso is the fact that adam actually defends the lordling to her, like, “wow adam its hilarious that the lordling’s friend thinks that you have charmed the lordling because from my perspective it looks the other way around” “shut uuuup you’re not listening im serious, like, yeah ok he put his foot in his mouth really hard when he talked to you but im telling you i dont think the whole i-wanna-understand thing is an act” “idk if i can trust you through those rose tinted glasses buddy. tell me again about that time he called you princely?” “oh my god”

they both have four letter names (sooo uncommon roght???) + neil has changed his name many times, and I wouldn’t be surprised if adam ended up changing his last name to, like, lynch or something idk

late to the party for the WIP ask. Art school harrow/gideon, BnB harrow/gideon, and Follow the Fellow adam/ronan intrigue me. tell me more. v intrigued

1. Art School Harrow/Gideon: this is the one where I take our illustrious alma mater, make it a little different, fill it even more full of ghosts, and let these two idiots loose in it

"Mhmm." Gideon tilted her head so that her chin might ruffle Harrow’s hair. "Your body is a regular Spirit Halloween store. I bet the Spirit of Halloween just saw your skin laying around all empty, and crawled right in there like a hermit crab. That's how those stores franchise, you know. Empty real estate: bam. Skeleton city." Gideon propped her free arm up onto the cabinet in such a way as to display her bicep, should anyone be looking.

2. BnB Harrow/Gideon is a beauty and the beast au in which Harrow is the beast (either in the ruins of the ninth or the first, can't decide...surrounded by skeletons either way obvs), Dulcie/Cytherea is Belle, and Gideon is also kind of Belle but is mostly Gaston lol

Hear me out: Ronan as Dorothy (wants nothing more than to go home), Adam as the Tin Man (thinks he doesn't have a heart), Gansey as the Cowardly Lion (the terrified king of the forest), Noah as the Scarecrow (I mean...blunt force head trauma tm), and Blue as Glinda the Good Witch (gateway to all the useful magic!). ft Kavinsky as the Wicked Witch. Like. Come on mstief

It was like this: there was daytime, and then there was Henrietta daytime. Mud and dust, humidity and heat. Virginia summer. The sun was a sweaty, unwanted arm around Ronan’s shoulder, a stinging welt against his shaved head, always heavy and hurting, always weighing him down. People wanted things from him during the day. Things like answer-your-fucking-phone-Ronan, things like Ronan-Lynch-don’t-you-dare-rev-your-engine-at-that-miscreant, things like well-I-hope-you’ll-actually-apply-yourself-this-semester-it’s-not-like-that-education-is-free.

An au kind of crossover between Harry potter and trc, like its not really an au but is an au because technically all of this could happen after trc if you dont count cdth. And Harry potters ending isnt canon anymore soo.

He has to go with a team to the US

A team of aurors and probably some kind of magic historian or smth

Something happend there

and it's messing with their Magic

Idk why the american wizard can't do anything about it but...reasons..

Turns out the leyline is the cause of their problem

Harry and co have to figure out how to stop their problems

And fix the leyline

(i imagined Harry, Ginny, Hermoine, Ron and Draco but you can change that if ya want)

Of course they meet the gangsey during

They immediately notice that something is off with these people

Idk how, im not a writer

but somehow they have to work together to fix the leyline

Gansey and Harry both want to take the lead so

power struggle happens

I think Blue wouldn't like the girls at first

But warms up to them when she sees that they are probably the only ones with ✨braincells✨

I also feel like that the wizards would think that Adam is one of them

because of his magician status

Hermoine would bond with Gansey 100%

Ronan and Draco could be dramatic together

but each in their own way.

I would love for this to be about either pynch or drarry

but i dont know how to do that

so sorry.

The Raven Boys - Maggie Stiefvater

Day 1: Chapters 1-7

So, this is essentially the Marauders Era prequel we all wanted as teenagers. Literally. The characters are exactly the same. But this is so much better - imagine if R*wling had actually written the book we all begged for, and made Sirius straight, and Peter a wizard racist. Thank you, Maggie Stiefvater, for actually making my childhood dreams come true.

Now, normally I just sum up my thoughts at the end of each day, but with this book I'm going to write as I go along, because there's a lot happening, and I've been making notes on my phone.

So I'm on chapter two. Blue is going to kiss her true love, and he'll die. That's Gansey. He carries an epipen. So, she'll give him an allergic reaction to peanuts or something, they'll get him to hospital, he'll be resuscitated. There's three more books, and no way is he not gonna be in them. Honestly, if that's how this book ends I am going to be fuming. That's way too obvious.

I'm really intrigued by Noah. He's got a whole lot of nothing going on. Like, the only people that mention him are the other three boys? He doesn't eat. He doesn't have a last name. It's like he's sometimes there and sometimes not. Either he's imaginary, or he actually is dead, like he told Declan's date.

Blue and Gansey have just met - and she's more interested in Adam. I like that, it means she doesn't do the instant "meant to be" falling in love that YA books use so much. Instead, she's going to grow to love him as she gets to know him. Cute!

There's not been a lot of description for these boys, so it isn't until chapter seven I really start to be able to distinguish them. I've been picturing them kind of as I saw the marauders, or as one general Gilmore Girls-eqsue "LoganColinFinn" boy.

And no matter how I try to say it, "Aglionby" just sounds weird. There's too many of the wrong letters smushed together. Ag-lion-bee. Ag-LEE-on-bee. Ag-lie-ON-bee. Nope. It sounds even worse with the word "Academy" after it!

(Edit: I have been informed it is pronounced “ag-lon-bee)

Day 2: Chapters 8-22

Ok, having thought about it overnight, Noah is definitely Whelk's dead friend, Czerny. Ghostie boy.

Well, it turns out Gansey is allergic to wasps, not anything edible (although I guess you could eat a wasp) so my initial theory is looking a bit thin - thank God, honestly, because that would have ruined the whole book.

Ronan is, as Adam so eloquently put it, Not Straight. And actually, until Adam started batting his eyelashes at Blue, I just kind of assumed Ronan and Adam were a couple. They give off massive couple vibes. They should be a couple. They'd be the cutest. I know it's unlikely, from like, 20 years of being disappointed by representation in books, but I really hope Ronan is actually gay.

My favourite so far is Noah the Ghost Boy. He should be the focus of this story, not whatever mythology rubbish Gansey cares about.

The plot is taking a long time to get going, but I have to stick with it, because these characters are incredible, and I would already legitimately die for most of them.

Day 3: Chapters 23-48

I stormed through the rest of that book without putting it down. Wow.

It was slow to get going, and it seemed like it was gonna be too predictable - and some bits were. It was very obvious about Noah from the beginning, and it would have been nice to have maybe been a bit shocked/surprised when Gansey and Blue found his body? But there were also bits I didn't see coming, like Ronan's dream power, and I have absolutely no idea how the rest of the series is going to pan out, so I'm really excited to read it!

I'm glad they got Noah back, I adore Ronan, I'm worried about Adam, I... don't really care about Blue and Gansey, if I'm honest.

I really hope they're going to use Glendower's favour to bring Noah back to life, but I have a horrible feeling that the series will end with him "moving on".

I loved this book. I loved the amount resolved, and the amount left still to explore. I loved the way the last line set up for the next book.

My initial thought? This is probably one of the best books I've read in a really long time.
