How would one apply to be a writer for IDW?
Unfortunately, as far as I know there is no way to formally apply to be a writer at IDW. Here are your options:
-Get hired for something else and transition into writing
-Know someone who works in comics who can introduce you to editors you'd like to work with
-Make your own original or fan material online and get noticed by an editor
-Seek out the editor you want to work with at a convention and establish a rapport
-Get a literary agent and make use of their professional network
I know that most of these sound pretty ridiculously unattainable, but the bottom line is that you should not wait for permission to make the things you want to make. Team up with friends who want to make comics, and just get out there and do it. You'll have fun, and also build the skills and network you need. The roads to professional comic writing and art are long and twisting, but there are a lot of them.

For The Forgotten Ones is completed, I haven’t read the final chapter yet because I wanted to finish this first
Buddy thank you so much for this wonderful story, I know I keep saying it but it genuinely changed my life. I hadn’t been in the Undertale fandom since about 2017, it was my first fandom experience so it was very special to me, but I left it far behind. at the start of this year I stumbled upon Calcium-cat’s comic based on the first chapter, and I found my way to this fic and read I think seven chapters in one night LOL. I had to stop because it was so late, but afterwards I sat in the dark of my room and just, felt. this fic felt like the peak of the old Undertale fandom, it was almost overwhelming (in the best way). all these emotions and this energy that I hadn’t felt in years all came rushing back it was like magic. like rediscovering the meaning of life. I know that sounds ridiculous and cheesy but Undertale genuinely made me who I am, it was my first fandom, drew my first fanart and wrote my first fan fiction and went to my first con and made friends and discovered this whole community that made me feel like me. and this story is interwoven with all of that. it feels like Home.
because of this fic I gained the motivation to create SO MUCH art, my skills have developed so much and I genuinely love my art now when I didn’t really before. I’ve found my style bc of you :) I’ve also gained an actual following now that continues to grow which is a dream come true since I first joined the internet. and I’ve made so many wonderful friends, I’ve got a group that came together bc of this fic and they’re all such wonderful people that I may never have met otherwise.
I’ve still got so many screenshots and ideas to draw for this fic so I’ll be appreciating it for a long time still, but this is a thank you, a gift and an appreciation for all that you’ve done. you consistently uploaded a sizeable chapter EVERY WEEK which is INSANE, your dedication is so inspiring. you created a beautiful world and characterized all these popular characters so well, especially when mischaracterizations have become the fandom canon atp (looks at Swap Sans,,,) you did so much. you created a family we all adored, we laughed and cried and prayed and joked and created this wonderful community within a wonderful community just to appreciate your words. truly effing masterful. I love For The Forgotten Ones, I will print it out into a book someday soon, to put it on my shelf where I can see it always. Thank you thank you thank you I’ve said so many words and still I feel I have not expressed the depths of my feelings
oh well
I gotta post this sometime lol
ok bye :) 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
(and to anyone else who reads this, this art is also going to be my dtiys event but I’ll make a separate post for that !!!! it’ll be going on until the end of November)

Some of the Pride Allies Variants are up
General housekeeping before I proceed with the Roast Fest
I want to make this explicitly clear: it is not my intention to hate on the artists themselves nor their art skills or anything along those lines.
Betsy Cola and Davi Go are both extremely talented and skilled artists. Support their work. Art is fucking hard and its even harder to actually get paid for it.
Betsy Cola is a queer Filipina and has an Instagram Page (but no online shop for prints). Lots of fun retro style (think 50s-60s-70s Pop Art)
Davi Go does have an INPRNT with lots of Marvel and DC Characters. Like nine different Emma Frost prints alone. A couple of lovely Laura Kinney and much more. For fine Art Prints, artists earn like 50% of the sale, I'm pretty sure.
I personally have no idea what goes into getting contracted to do any cover by Marvel, but I'm sure it was absolutely thrilling to get to do ANY work by a big company such as Marvel, where so many would get to see something I had made. I also have no idea how much an artist is told when they are contracted to make something. (Do they get told what it's for, or are they just given a generalized prompt? I truly have no idea)
I do know, that personally for me, doing ANYTHING of that caliber would be a dream come true. I've been reading comic books since I was five/six years old. While I only make shitty little fans arts and the occasional fanfic, if by some astronomical chance, I was offered to write or do a cover, I would absolutely jump on the chance. Or at least strongly consider it.
I am specifically critiquing Marvel's decisions as corporation to even come up with and sign off on something as obnoxious (and frankly, insulting) as "Pride Allies" for a variant series. Especially considering the overarching fact that historically Marvel has had its fair share of issues regarding its treatment of its queer characters -- lack of consistent appearances/storytelling, questionable treatment/writing choices, and blatant rainbow washing during Pride month to give a few generalizations (pick your favorite example, there's a lot). Sometimes its enjoyable to poke fun at company's ridiculous marketing ideas.
Much like the fact last winter they did a "Ski Chalet" variant series with skiing and snow activities, yet somehow didn't find an artist to do a variant of their ONE CANON OLYMPIC SKIIER.
But I digress.
In Summary: the act of creation is beautiful, don't be a douche canoe. Being punk is anti-establishment, not anti-people.
Thank you.
Now, ladies, gentlemen, and everyone in-between and outside thereof, first up we have:
Tumblr media
Amazing Spider-man #52 by Davi Go
Davi Go does a pretty Northstar, I'll give him that.
But why is Spider-man here? What are they even doing? I know JP has canonically crushed on chatty dumbasses *cough cough* Iceman *cough cough* but I don't see the point of this pairing.
What are they even doing? Did Parker get lost on his way to the Pride Parade? Lmao.
Next:
Tumblr media
Daredevil #10 by Davi Go
Rachel is very pretty. Looks very powerful here.
They both wear red, I'll give them that.
(I don't have much more to say on this one. I think my brain broke a little)
I genuinely do NOT see the point in pairing up a queer character with a random more popular Marvel hero. I repeat my question, who the hell signed off on this?
In my personal opinion, its just new lows in performative allyship and rainbow washing and whatever kind of marketing you wanna call it.
Source here for first two (directly from Marvel site)

I think they have always downgraded or mistreated other characters for the benefit (at least partially) of Tim.
First there was the whole Jason got himself killed thing being used to 1) justify Tim's existence and 2) emphasize how much better Tim was.
There was also Stephanie regularly getting shit on as inferior to Tim even though she was getting nowhere near the help and training he did. (Multiple teammates of Tim even attacked Stephanie in honor of(?) Tim)
He was also kind of portrayed as the 'better' and 'more competent' one in Young Justice, especially in comparison to Impulse and Kon-El Superboy (I even saw a post saying the Tim helped teach them morality (I wouldn't credit him for that)). (and yes in some places there was a competency drop)
In some comics such as Hush he was treated as the superior Robin to both Jason and DICK. There have also been a lot of comics where the villains clearly dropped in skill when facing Tim.
It's no wonder some of his fans think there is nothing wrong with other characters (in this case Damian) being mistreated to make Tim look good. They always have been.
Holy moly I didn't realise how deep it goes! I'm mostly the Batfam side of the DC so I don't have much knowledge about others. (But one day I will read them too, like Young Justice, Green Lantern, Flash etc.)
It's honestly horrible that other characters have to suffer for Tim's sake. They all getting nerfed so Tim, the rich relatable boy, can get the spotlights. It's sad. And pathetic. It's just shows how writers are desperate to say that "Look Tim Drake is so cool he can do stuff better than heroes who have more experience and superpowers"
Unfortunately, Ra's al Ghul and Lady Shiva are victims of this too. Tim Drake cannot beat Lady Shiva, a woman who is one of the best warriors in the world, has experience of decades.
And the way fanon makes Ra's al Ghul obsessed with Tim is ridiculous. "Oh the Demon's Head wants to have Tim's babies and he treasures Tim's spleen 🤗" Why would Ra's al Ghul be obsessed with a white, privileged rich boy? Just stop
Kon, Bart, all the Robins deserve better 😩 and Tim stans need to chill

TIME TO LOVE STEPHANIE BROWN aka SPOILER
She deserves JUSTICE!
Greek Goddesses! Another character that earned a love post from me, she needs the love, she DESERVES to be loved 💜💜💜 (spoiler alert, this post will be a loooooooooong 😅 )
I found out about her and other characters thanks to the wholesome slice of life comic Batman: family Wayne adventures months ago (I've been a DC Batman fan since I was a kid but I mostly watched shows that didn't include said characters before starting with the comics) and I fell in love with her, I mean she is all purple and her hero name is SPOILER 💘 so she could jump on criminals and say things like: SPOILER ALERT YOU'RE ABOUT TO GET BUSTED 👊😂 HELLO? INSTANT LOVE 💘and then I searched for her, read a lot of comics... and learned SOOO many outrageous things!🤬 Welcome to Hypocrisyland 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. Here comes the RANT:
So she was an independent girl who made herself the Spoiler persona to "spoil" her wannabe Riddle father's evil deeds and she was a bit morally gray and cynical and wasn't particularly trying to be a hero or a vigilante and then after meeting Robin she started to change her mind inspired by HIM so all her thing started completely separated from Batman and technically it was by associating herself with Tim/Robin that at some point she started to want Batman's approval too and started the whole "fight to prove that I deserve a place here" thing but I think the amount of disrespect this girl faced is ridiculous! Treated like she was hopeless, useless, stupid etc... is she a punching bag? Treated like shit by so many characters for no good reason 😡 and I didn't see any satisfying consequence on them because of it, it was as if the way they treated her was justified because... I don't know, she was compared to Jason, to Dick, to Tim and to Barbara but when is only about her own person she wasn't good enough so they were hysterical about her hurting herself or dying faster than any of them 🙄, so everything is justified because they were worried?
Sorry but NO, I don't care if she isn't as skillful as characters like Cassandra or Damian that were raised to be living killing weapons by assassins or that she isn't intelligent genius detective level with a rich live background that could afford special ttraining like Tim or Batman himself, that she isn't some erudite engineer to build herself taser weapons like Harper Row or a suit flying armor like Luke Fox, that she doesn't have military training like Kate Kane, that she doesn't have hacker skills or a cop dad as Barbara Gordon, or she doesn't have powers like Duke or wasn't trained by ninjas like Selina Kyle or that she started only having good grades at gymnastics instead of having been raised in a circus by acrobats like Dick Grayson... I DON'T CARE, because she had a lot of qualities to start from Zero to Hero that are probably a lot more relatable than the other characters, most people don't have third rate criminal fathers but still she is a lot closer to the normal people than other characters and that makes her great, she is so resourceful even thought that unlike Batman and Tim she comes from poverty and can't get high tech stuff, yet she made herself a costume and helped take down her criminal father in a low budget! How come her resourceness in her situation wasn't impressive to them? How come that she had to endure being dismissed and underestimated constantly over and over until her death? It was exhausting to see! The fact that she started being resentful towards her father and wanted more revenge than justice is enough to ditch her as a hero? (Maybe the Avengers would have welcomed her better in that case 🙄) How much she had to train until the writers stopped making her look unfit and unworthy despite everything?
I don't get why they decided to make everyone around her be an asshole, a jerk, a hypocrite... Specially Tim and Batman (the AUDACITY of these two! Batman "fired" Her from being Spoiler like she being Spoiler had anything to do with him in the first place, entitlement much? Robin mantle I get it but The Spoiler mantle was hers from the beginning he can't fire her from it and then Tim went to comfort her, ironic since he kept telling her to hang the suit all the time, he also said being a Teen Titan was out her league when she was offered a place and told her she can't speak for herself, seriously you fucking jerk? Does he think he is Dick Grayson or what? 😒 the entitlement is spreading! and later when he became Red Robin he DEMANDED her to never be Spoiler again... Oh FUCK YOU 🖕🤬, mister "I discovered your secret so now you have to hire me as Robin" Worse part of that is that he said that after finding out things she was doing on Batman's orders wtf? So is bad always no matter if she disobeys or obeys Batman she can't win) They even made my dear Alfred be cold with at first because "she hurt Tim" but it was actually Batman's fault because he told her his secret 😤 well at least that treatment didn't last, bless Alfred for crying after her death when Dick asked about her and being so happy to see her alive he lose his British.
Why they hated her so much to the point they just doomed her to a horrible death that wasn't even heroic? She was tortured for days after provoking a gang war following one of Batman's plans trying to gain his trust back after he fired her from being his Robin for only 2 months! 🤬 2 miserable months!! because she disobeyed him (sure, sure, no other Robin BEFORE and AFTER her has ever disobeyed Bats orders right? 🙄) and the last person she sees before dying is him who was always comparing her to her male predecessors because he didn't like she was more questioning than them and then lied to her dying face about considering her a real Robin (by the way it felt so wrong that she became Robin out of spite because she saw a girl kissing Tim and she assumed he was cheating... I mean I can't blame her he did CHEAT on his first girlfriend with her, boy I hate this kind of teen drama) . They said it was "unclear" If he was telling the truth, HA! PLEASE. 🙄Of course he is not going to tell the ugly truth to a dying girl (he even "insulted" Her once saying she fights like a girl, wtf? She should have tell on him to Dinah lance) The ones who should have been there were Cassandra and Tim they actually did considered her a Robin, yep even Tim (he even mentioned a few positive things about her time being Robin) after he retook the mantle, they at least loved her! Even if they wronged her at least there was no doubt that they loved her... (Even if Tim's grief for her was short and too dry! 😡, They wanted people to forget about her so hard he was already having new love interests when not even a year passed, he suffered a lot more with his father and Superboy's death than with Stephanie 🤬, at least Cass cried and dreamed about her and thankfully Alfred and Barbara cried for her too even when they weren't that close to her at that time) Because seriously, this was a pitiful sad death, not bothering in making it a sacrifice or falling on combat saving someone noooo, she died after making a huge mistake trying to impress someone who never actually seemed to like her at all! In a gruesome and kinda sexualized way, nobody came to rescue her... Batman only showed up to pick her up after she escaped alone and tell her pretty lies before dying.
What a fucking Joke 🤦‍♀️ how humiliating for a character with a hell lot of potential WASTED! She didn't even get a memorial in the Batcave like Jason! Both their deaths were meant to be permanent but the comics only wanted you to remember Jason but not about Stephanie! Like he never existed! (And later the lame excuse for it🙄, like Batman suspected she wasn't really dead but he didn't tell Tim or Cass about that suspicion? None of them confronted him about the lack of memorial of her? Wouldn't they demand a memorial of a girl that meant a lot to them? He suspected she was alive but he never care to find her?🙄😑 Talk about crappy, tacky writing) it's like the character was thrown like garbage... Indeed that's what they intended to, her death was supposed to be permanent but fortunately for us fans rioted to demand her return very rightfully! 😤 and... Her return was still rushed, lame and lazy 😒 and they forgot to add a LOT of characters reactions seeing her alive 🤦‍♀️, like not even Cass??? I searched and never found a comic with her reaction after finding out she was alive! All out of camera, I hate that, is just so TACKY! Not an epic death and not proper comeback 😬😬
But then we had her run as the third Batgirl! Her solo as Batgirl did a lot of good for her character, with the exception of a few things I disliked like: her interaction with Catwoman that didn't make sense with how they met in the gangs war or that once again Batman has to have all the credit 🙄 because at the end he comes back from a not actual death and it turns out the whole make her a Batgirl was his doing and not Cassandra's doing😑 that would have been better because later they could rub it on his face but they couldn't because it was his idea 😬 but hey at least she got to SLAP him 🤣👏👏 that was epic BRAVO! Ahh that solo lasted too little! She got to put Tim in his place, she became friends with Supergirl and bonded with Damian as a big sister, I swear she should have spent more time with them, she demonstrated her bravery and willpower when she kicked the Scarecrow ass, finally earning Barbara's respect and admiration after she was so bitchy with her, its always so satisfying seeing characters standing up for her after so much mistreatment (i guess she had mixed feelings with the fact that Stephanie is a Batgirl that resembles more to her, Dick also mentioned that and thankfully he stopped being a jerk hypocrite with her too) and did I a mention that she FUCKING SLAPPED BATMAN? Because that is extremely important 😂 and Alfred defended her calling Bruce out in his bullshit test. Then for some stupid out of the blue reason she retired for a year... AFTER ALL SHE WENT THROUGH TO EARN THAT MANTLE? 🤬🤬🤬. Anyway she had to take the mantle back because she was chosen for some tournament where she had to fight Catman and there was Tim again looking down on her 🙄 "why weren't we chosen Cass we are better fighters she is a year out of shape" (Yeah who the fuck decided to make her hang the cape after everything? 🤡) at least Cass defended her saying that she is unpredictable, not like when they were training (Steph was still death) and out of the blue she unnecessarily tells him "you learn fast not like my last student" Really? I recall you enjoying training her 🙄 Sure Cassandra cried and dreamed of her but she used to look down on her a lot, the way she knocked her out in after being fired from being Robin was something we never see her apologize for, it was swept under the rug like never happened, Steph never confronted her about it even though she left her feeling betrayed 🤦‍♀️ and then besties again like nothing 😒. But at least she punched Tim for being an imbecile and then they got together again, so lovely, so happy, she was finally getting respect... BOOM: the new 52 reboot happened. 😃😃
The only thing I liked was that she got triple nunchakus as a personal weapon and that way she doesn't copy Robin's stick and the fact that she went through teen pregnancy and had to give up the baby because I hated that lazy plot that was only meant to make her and Tim have a closer relationship is not canon anymore(they really couldn't think of anything else to deepen their relationship than making her go through that pain so he could support her?😒🤦‍♀️ besides, she had a traumatic sexual assault experience as a child so I find hard to believe she would let herself get pregnant with the scumbag she dated before Tim, I hard to believe she didn't dumped him until he abandoned her in the earthquake) but her origin and relationship with Tim was erased along her time as Robin and as Batgirl(even thought that somehow thankfully now is canon again)and other character named Harper basically took a bit of Steph and Cassandra stories, mixed them and made them her own... pretty lame because Harper's concept was actually cool but she taking their place wasn't cool she also was the one to befriend Cassandra and had a conection with her first instead of Steph and the one who had to fight to be allowed to be a vigilante by Batman instead of her and she was the one that convinced Steph to join the fight instead of Steph wanting to do it by herself but the thing that infuriates me the most in this reboot was that she was accepted into the batfamily without much problem but altmost inmidiatly they made her go against them and againts Batman that this time wasn't being an asshole to her due to the apparent death of Tim Drake, Batman was even being affectionate with her, that hug he gave her to comfort her was precious 🥺 and so satisfying to see but then they had to ruin everything by making her be unreasonable and insufferable to create cheap drama 🤦‍♀️, now that she got the only thing she wanted pre reboot they make her want to walk away?🤡🤡🤡 not to mention I was already pissed of that in her solo as Batgirl they forgot what kind of interaction she had with Catwoman, basically Selina was the last person who was sweet and kind to her before she was killed, it would have been nice to see a proper reaction to her come back but the reboot made things worse! Selina was bitchy and mean to Steph even if she gave her some acknowledgement to her talent but she refused to grant my wish of training her and instead she was trained by the second Catwoman that honesty was disappointed but not that bad because I will like any character that would want to help Steph and Eiko (2° Catwoman) took her in for a while and bothered to teach her something so KUDOS 👍 for her! And Cassandra, Dinah and Barbara too.
And well I'm going to stop the rant here because aside of Tim dumping her and treating her shitty for no reason when they were finally happy so he could be with a random background NPC boy nobody cared about or even remembered so he could prove his bisexuality 😑😑😑, in general things are finally getting good for her: she is finally fully recognized as a Robin and she got another solo with Cassandra and Barbara as Batgirls that wasn't as good as the first one but it was nice and apparently she is now going to have her own team of young superheroes in a new comic.
I wanted to make an statement about things I like about her, the need to make her interact with other characters I think she would get along and my new Ship with her and Jason but all that will have their owns individual posts because I already wrote too much here, if you read it all thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏❤❤ if you felt offended or disagreed with something I said I apologize but remember that this is just the random opinion of a random Tumblr user so... See you in my next posts 😘💋💋

I never talked about my interpretation of Misako but she was so cool and basically a completely different character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted her debut to be shocking when I got to it in my fan comic, but that might be a long time until then, soooo...
information about her under the cut...
Appearance: She is 6 and a half feet tall with a revealing outfit, chi-powered nexo armor on her arms and legs, scars, a shield, a gun, and sun glasses. Backstory: She is 600 years old and first became fascinated with researching realm travel so she could meet with Garmadon in the Underworld. One day, she meant to go on a week long inter-realm adventure, leaving Lloyd at home alone (neglectful to begin with) but ended up getting lost across the realms, so her adventure lasted 6 years. She spent the most time in Chima and Nexo (Nexo Knights). She has a small bit of chi that powers her equipment that she got in Nexo*. She befriended the Chima tribes and she worked with the Nexo Knights to save Knighton. *In my interpretation, the organisms of Nexo are a mix of organic material and robotic. They are like natural cyborgs, so their armor is powered by strong organic electric currents they naturally produce. Misako is a human, so she has to use an alternative power source. (Nexo rewrite lore was made in collaboration with @transhitman) Personality: She'd be one of the most ridiculous characters. She is extremely chill and apathetic, played mostly for comedy, but played horrifyingly seriously when it comes to Lloyd. She is so old and so focused on research that she is detached from emotions. She somehow completely fails to understand why Lloyd is so hurt over NOT HAVING A PARENT ("its just five years. and you turned out fine."). She also always wants things her own way, and is completely willing to kill someone if they inconvenience her (played for jokes). She is an okay person overall, just oblivious and unpredictable.
Role in the plot: She would show up from a realm portal mid battle with the Stone Army to help the ninja, rather than showing up before the action to give the initial lore dump. She is mostly a comic relief character, and helps the Ninja when they need knowledge about the realms. She is completely unmoved by any of Lloyd's attempts to bond with her or get an apology from her. She loves Garmadon for being a baddie. Wu flirts with her post Garmadon's death, and she is completely apathetic to this, slightly inconvenienced, considering killing him.
Abilities: She is one of the most combatively-skilled characters on the ninja's side. She uses her bare hands and spinjitzu at close range, and her rifle at long range. The people of Ninjago haven't invented guns yet, and are very surprised. She can absorb energy (including elemental) to power her armor and rifle. Her chi power source allows her to gain superhuman capabilities momentarily, but she doesn't like to use it since it will eventually run dry. She is also extremely wise but is even worse at explaining things than Wu is, out of apathy.

Headcanons Banjo pls
I have so many about him!
He's a huge fan of western things. I like to think that he and All Might would bond over their love of western style stuff. Although, it's mainly the cowboy and Texas stuff that Banjo likes while All Might likes the western superhero comics.
In fact, his love of cowboy style is why he has that bandolier on the inside of his jacket despite not having a gun or anything to shoot with. He just thought it looked cool. The open jacket is because he overheats easily, so he and En often eat ice cream together. Even in the winter.
He got teased as a kid once they realized his last name sounded like the instrument, so out of spite he learned to play it and realized he also likes country music.
Actually, he likes any song that has a good beat, so his playlist is a mix of genres and artists. But he's not one to really listen to the lyrics.
He sucks at cooking. He's good at other household work but he gets distracted and forgets that he's cooking something so it burns. He lives off of microwave meals and takeout.
After finding out the "go" in Daigoro is spelled with the kanji for "enlightenment" I like to think he does meditation as a way to calm down.
He's pans. For no other reason than I thought the flag colors fit him.
I have a lot of theories as to why he shaved his head but one I think you'll like is that he had an odd hair color and the first few heroes had to look "normal" for the public to accept them. (Imagine if it was the same color as blackwhip so he had a similar hair color to Deku.) I also like to think that whatever the original reason was, he'd still shave his head if he was a girl. I'd draw that if I could.
He's skilled at tying and untying knots.
He's good at math, but terrible at literature because he was more straightforward and didn't get why people don't just outright say what they mean.
Laughs at horror movies and pretty much any moment where they don't want you to laugh because he thinks a lot of it is just ridiculously overdramatic or unrealistic.
He always wanted a big dog, but he didn't have the room for one and his job as a hero kept him too busy.
If he had to do a job other than hero, I definitely think it would be something that requires a lot of moving around. I can't think of a specific one, but I know he would hate having a job where he does nothing but sit at a computer all day.
Basically, I headcanon that he likes nature in general. Not to the point he'd live in the woods for 18 years, but he likes it and enjoys going hiking.
He was that one kid who was kind of loud in class, but respected the teachers. As he grew older, I can see him patiently listening to the stories of old people or carefully listening as an old lady teaches him to knit.
He made it his mission to make sure that no one felt left out and tried to include everyone in things, something that he's been doing since childhood.
He loves bad puns. He's got a dad joke sense of humor.
Not superstitious or one to believe in conspiracy theories, but he'll listen to the rants anyway.
He can be kind of forgetful about little things. He always puts in the effort to remember appointments and birthdays, but he constantly forgets to charge his phone and where he put the remote.
He'll eat or drink pretty much anything. The opposite of whatever a picky eater is.
That's all for now since this is getting long. Thank you for giving me a chance to share my Banjo headcanons.

Hi! No neg to you at all but i really need to get this out so feel free to ignore :D
I feel like fandoms as a whole has started to become WAY too comfortable in telling their creators what to do. The drama, complaints, and overall neg that i've seen people spewing to monsta is disheartening.
Critics are fine here and there, especially when mentioned in a respectable way. But people seem to forget that nothing is perfect, they see a flaw and just... zero in on it
Monsta can't satisfy everyone. Heck NO creator can satisfy everyone, but complaining about the thing something is lacking and saying negative things about the creators is helping absolutely NO ONE.
If anything it makes the creators ignore you, at worse double down or get disheartened and stop creating as a whole. Other than that it creates a negative sphere that makes some people (who were fine and enjoying this thing they like) to also feel unsatisfied or be negative as well.
ITS RUINING THE FUN FOR EVERYONE
I feel like these people don't realize how HARD it is to create let alone make a show.. its actually something i've realized in media consumption over the years; people have consumed so much media that they believe they "know whats best" or "understand better how to create this and that"
Creating is not easy. It takes time. It takes skill. WRITING isn't easy. ART isn't easy. ANIMATING isn't easy.
You want a specific episode that cater to what you like and how you want the characters to be? Write it. Genuinely write it.
Thats what fanart is for, fanfiction, fananimation.
Want something? Make it yourself. People have been spoon feed with free content that includes 3 seasons worth of a show, 2 seasons of its sequel show, 2 movies, AND comics.
And again. THESE ARE ALL FREE.
People do not REALIZE how privileged they are.
Do you know how many content now that is under a paywall? Do you know how incredible and generous it is to be given free content of an animated show for years?
To be given a show that is so obviously made with passion and love?
And still having the nerve to complain that its not the way how some people want or like it to..
Write it. To those who fully believe they know how things should be created, then do it yourself. Make a script and give it to them. Make a fanfic. Make an AU. Make art. MAKE WHAT EVER IT IS YOUR COMPLAINING ABOUT OR MADE YOU DISSATISFIED
Sorry about the long rant, this is in no way directed to you, been really peeved with how ungrateful people have been (getting that much free content in anything is a privilege some do not realize). Thinking its so easy to make a free show.
Anyway can't wait to see the continuation of your AU :D
Allahuakbar—THAT'S A LONG TED TALK wwwwwwwww X'D
Lmao I was not ready for a minute with how long your ask was, so of course I couldn't ignore this! wkwkwkw
Ehem.
Truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu 100%!
I am new to this fandom but it genuinely got me a headache. Even with the recent drama "Boboiboy is more likely a fan service franchise now!" or "Why monsta always treat Boboiboy only and abandoning their supporting characters? This is why Ejen Ali is better!" and many other drama that I don't need to know in the past.
Like... Puh-lease. Don't you guys know how much it blessed that they released their show full HD on YouTube? Both TV and movie series? Released their comic on webtoon for free?
Maybe you guys didn't realize how illogical that sound for outside of... I dunno, maybe from sea countries. Like Japan with their infamous strict rules for any franchise when they promote their products.
(and with how ridiculous what had westerns entertainment corporations did to consumers, so pirating on us and Europe almost became a norm?)
Monsta I'd say is genius. They knew they cannot apply the same way with how the Japan did, and thus they find a way to make their show release without losing any money. Even me personally still find that strategy is "somewhat" illegal. But for SEA countries? I can understand why they choose this path. Because that's how The some of franchises from my country did that too to promote their products.
Buuuut does it make the corporate go impecunious?
Now that my friend, it all comes down with the quality and the general public reception themselves.
(I can give you examples buuuut it gonna be longer and might subjective since I don't have any uh... Marketing background knowledge)
Therefor Monsta creatively managed to survive that obstacle. Their shows already big enough across the SEA nations and beyond; their comics and card battle themselves are heavily sold out, and even managed to release on theater in Japan!
Aaaaaaaaand then again, anon. This is internet.
Tumblr media
Sometimes criticism could cause endless of drama that never ends. And it's absolutely unhealthy. Uurggh..
Yet in rare occasions, consumer criticism had their own benefits. Like the infamous Gremlin Movie Sonic before Paramount had to change because of the internet. (HUGE internet criticism If you guys don't know)
It really is a gamble to take any discourse if their take was supporting and even disowning some product. Especially on the internet where you could freely critics without hearts content.
I admit I myself have my complaints but tbf, at the of the day I don't mind with what Monsta give to their product. In fact, I respect with how much they take risk to correcting their mistakes from the very first Boboiboy Series up until now.
Nobody's perfect anyway, so I highly appreciate it they way Monsta tried to please anyone.
But that's the beauty of the Fan Art. Whether in form of music, visuals, literary, and any kind of medium to ensure that franchise still has an active community with tons of new ideas to share for their franchises. Big or small.
Fan art for me is a clarification whether the franchise is acceptable to their target market or not. If no one creates it, I consider that franchise is failure and not exist.
"The difference between fanfic and a "real" novel is that fanfic is honest about its inspiration."
-Mary Robinette Kowal
"There's a time and place for everything, and I believe it’s called 'fan fiction'."
-Joss Whedon
Tho...
Why would someone would want to waste their talents for creating fan art that they didn't even like it at first?
I specifically refer to people who made fan art clearly for hate or trigger people who liked it, not for earning money(that's another story to tell)
What a pity to waste time, ya know?
Like, touch some grass dude :/

Again I feel like the most important point to make when we’re talking about (informed) fans bitching about scores is that it’s been so fucking ridiculous for so fucking long that fans’ expectations are warped, in that there’s a mental division between what we Know a score Should Be in the realm of reality and what we Expect based on [delusional crazy outrageous] precedent. Also relative to the other scores in the same meet. Like yeah there’s feigned outrage (often insincere/comical which I do often I’m not knocking it lol) when a floor routine with great landings on all 3 passes goes 9.90 regardless of the other execution aspects of the skills. But isn’t that kind of the point? That if you start from a 10 and you stick everything the form and dynamics don’t matter to the judges, and that’s a major problem? And when the judges actually do their jobs and deduct accordingly it feels like lowballing? How did we get here?

Part 2 of comparing my EO ocs to my Mage Prophecies ocs
Tank and Tankei
Tumblr media
The similarities in their names is purely a coincidence. Also Tankei is pronounced T-awn -KAY vs Tank just being said Tank. Plus... is Tank reaally his name? 🤨
Tankei was such a big supporting chara she could be elevated to main status. Subplots in most arcs focused on some aspect of her. And she was the fan fav.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She was an asshole, my favorite asshole whose reckless actions get the main girls in and out of trouble.
She needed to be watched bc when alone she was always misbehaving-- she hates authority, and she REALLY HATES injustice/unfairness.
Tankei melded so well with Mio bc she was the more real version of her. One that knew not everyone could be her friend bc she learned the hard way. And the reason why she is so harsh to Mio is because she never wants ANYONE to be like her. To be taken advantage of.
She has one of the absolute most DRAMATIC backstories ever. And it's one that shapes the plot.
If anyone has a more dramatic back story than Tankei it's probably Tank BAHAHAHA.
He is also a drunk asshole who has the be watched bc he misbehaves (thank you for watching Enid.....). But unlike Tankei. He's super... meticulous about what he does 🤨
His back story also leads a few subplots I have in mind. Actually maybe like 3. He was supposed to just be a side chara but the more I characterized him? He's actually so much more intelligent than Tankei when it comes to people. (I think). And his arc is sweet too. Yeah that guy is an asshole but I personally think he says so to trick people.
If they met: also at a bar. (They both use alcohol to turn off their brains).
They would beat the shit out of someone who was rude at the bar and vaguely remember each other afterwards.
He'd call her "chick" tho. Different than how he calls Alope and Hana kids... he'd definitely view her as more adult than those too bc he knows that she has seen very much.
Tank when Tankei calls him old man (he is tasting his own medicine)
Tumblr media
Enid and Kai + Kiemi
Tumblr media
Okay so Enid... Enid is one of my only EO ocs that embodies a few ocs rather than just 1. I have like 4 ocs that remind me of him. But narrowed it down to 2... the other 2 are more closely related to other EO ocs anyway.
Anyway Kai is another OC's son. Lady Micah's son!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't have comics of them interacting but it's. Oddly in character. Lady is the leader of a like police force, the specialized knights of the nation, the Royal Guardians. Kai is the highest ranking RG member. He is so ridiculously talented, powerful and awesome. But none of this stuff means anything to him bc his self esteem is soooooOoooo LOW.
Yeah. He can control gravity in a certain location. Yes he's a skilled swordsman. But what if hes faking that? ☹ he feels like an impostor...
He has all these achievements, but since he's so... insecure people dont know and view him as some average guy. Most don't even know he's rank 1. Which reinforces his inferiority complex.
Enid... Well when I rewrote chapter 1 I wanted to make it more obvious they were similar.
Tumblr media
Like. You see Enid but not really?? Like. WHOA. That's a person. But... then you look at something else. They are the most vibrant in the room but surpress most of their personality. So people just view her as some guy.
Can't get into all Enid's problems bc Enid is a rare character who's backstory isn't super important. Maybe like 2 notes of it are. But other than that, all Enid is in the main story.
If they met: I think Enid would see Kai having a bad time and give him a pep-talk. Only to find out bro is basically capable of killing demigods and get SUPER PISSED OFF.
It's okay Enid. Post game, you can kill demigods too.
The other MP character is Kiemi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also one of the Royal Guardians. One who dedicated her whole life to the king. She represses her emotions like Enid too. Acting regal when shes really really upset that she's spent her life this way. Kiemi masks it and usually just tries to make sure no one feels like her. Giving confidence to everyone else and supporting them. (Including Kai)
She reminds me of young Enid. Before Enid became a monk they were unhappy in the same way Kiemi was.
If they met: ENID WOULD NOTICE HOW MESSED UP KIEMI'S QI IS. Kiemi's energy is so out of whack. They are repressing so much more than Enid.
They would talk and be good friends. Also if Enid ever lost confidence Kiemi would gas him up SO HARD.
Also! Kiemi and Kai are the main two who baby sit Tankei. So Enidcore. You know with Joe they babysit Tank. (Though... who is rlly being babysat between those two????)
That's it for this one!
I'll do more charas once I actually introduce them. :3!

I have a somewhat embarrassing question. What is TF2.
It's not embarrassing at all! TF2 stands for Team Fortress 2, a game that was released on October 10th, 2007, by the game studio Valve. It is a first-person shooter where you pick to play as 1 of 9 mercenaries, each with their own unique skills that are separated into three separate classes:
Offense: Scout, Pyro, Soldier
Defense: Engieneer, Demoman, Heavy Weapons Guy
Support: Medic, Sniper, Spy
The game is set up so you are either on team RED or team BLU, each team holding 9 players, and you play through matches and game modes such capturing points by stealing the enemy intelligence (a physical briefcase you pick up and run with) or capturing control points and battling to defend those. There are variations of these as well as some other game modes you can choose from. It's free to play and on Steam for both Windows and Mac users. (though it was originally offered on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3).
If you ever played Overwatch, you already have an idea of how the game is set up for you, but in my opinion, TF2 is MUCH more fun.
If you want the "lore" behind the game and the characters, you should definitely check out their website. They have write ups on each character which also shows you who you might be interested in playing, as well as comics, the short films they've put out (including fan made ones for the Saxxy Awards), full descriptions of the major updates, music, and official art. You've got a beautiful 15yrs to look at that is just oozing love.
What has kept people coming back to this game for so long is in the art, the humor, and the Community Workshop - a place where you as a fan can upload your own creations for customization for the characters. TF2 is affectionately nicknamed The Hat Simulation Game/Hat Dress Up Game cause that's a secondary part of it. While you can earn and pick up different weapons for your characters, you can also unbox crates that have cosmetics inside to make your characters look fun. Things like a hot dog hat or a banana hat or reindeer antlers, all of which only serve to make your guys look goofy and fun. There's also chest pieces and the occasional shoes or little shoulder pets. A LOT of these are made by fans who then submit them to be voted on by all players, and if they get accepted into the game, you'll have a chance of unboxing them. There are taunts as well, such as conga dancing or high fives or rock paper scissors that allow you to interact with other players regardless of the team. There are even many of the maps that you play that have been made by people in the community, making TF2 something that feels like something to be interacted with as well as to be played.
While the ultimate goal of each game in TF2 is to kill the opponents and to win points, most of the games you'll end up playing include some air of messing around. There are lots of times when matches will take much longer than they need to because someone started dancing and now half the players are dancing with each other. The map 2Fort is notorious for this, and I'd say it's about 70/40 of screwing around to actually capturing intelligence. I can honestly say that TF2 is THE game to always have me laughing and enjoying myself, especially compared to other games with similar setups. It never takes itself too seriously, though if you'd like to play competitive, there is an option for that. More often than not, the palyers are fun people, and even if you run into the occasional asshole, you can just drop out of that match and find a new one pretty quickly.
TF2 has lasted as long as it has because it is, in its bones, all in good fun. It takes the whole 60s-70s era dangerous mercenaries and spies in a secret organization and cranks up the ridiculousness of that to an 11. Each of the characters are from different parts of the world, but they're all such over-the-top representations of their cultures that it becomes something a lot like a Mel Brooks-esque setup. Shakespearicles was the strongest writer who ever lived and invented the two-story building, but everyone had to use rocket launchers to get up to the second level until Abraham Lincoln invented stairs 100yrs later. Every Halloween, you have to battle Soldier's old roommate who is a powerful wizard because Soldier turned his old castle into a raccoon sanctuary. All Australians are ripped as shit, have amazing mustaches, and Australia-shaped chest hair.
PLAY TEAM FORTRESS 2

Scrounge deserves to appear in Earthspark
Although Scrounge is a character that has only appeared in the Transformer comics. Where they make fun of him for being small and that the shape of his vehicle is a simple wheel. He was shown to be a great spy for the Autobots by having a special arm that allowed him to steal both audio and video information from the enemy.
That's why I think Scrounge should appear in the new Earthspark Transformers series but instead of an autobot, he should appear as a Terran.
Tumblr media
Scrounge transforms into a tire, but at this time I imagine it as an electric unicycle or airwheel (I don't know how to call it) since in the comics era this type of vehicle did not exist.
Tumblr media
In the Earthspark series they could introduce him as a new Terran that has just been born. Being very small, Bumblebee would worry about finding a vehicle mode for him.
However, on a trip with his older Terran brothers, Scrounge scans an electric unicycle, becoming the perfect vehicle mode for him.
Just like in the comics, Scrounge would go unnoticed among enemies as they would never think a transformer would have that shape.
Children could take it to school or to the city without problems since, thanks to its size, they can carry it like a bag thanks to its modern design. Just like they can use it as transportation without raising suspicion.
Scrounge and Hashtag would get along very well thanks to their skills related to hacking the network.
Tumblr media
I guess Scrounge didn't appear in the Transformers series because of his ridiculous vehicle shape (because it was a simple wheel) and they thought that the fans would get bored of him, because even in the comics the autobots make fun of him. But today, the vehicle form of it could be enviable thanks to the advancement of technology.
This would be a good way to introduce Scrounge. Maybe he could gain the same popularity as Knockout when he came out on Prime, although this depends on how they develop the character.
Clearly Scrounge was ahead of his time.

can we talk about Sasha's character on AOT for a second? just listen to me for a moment.
majority of the mainstream fandom has reduced her to the comic relief/potato girl who loves to eat but I think she deserves so much more than that. especially when she died, most are only sad over it to have a reason to hate Gabi because "huhu bitch child killed our potato girl kyahh"
(of course there are handful of fans who understood her and saw the depth of her character. but I was really hoping her TV death arc will bring out more people who didn't just saw her a cartoon cardboard character)
Sasha is a wonderful native-migrant representation, at least in my perspective. She came from a rural area and community of farmer/hunters that are greatly affected by the continuous occupation of urban born citizens. Mainland Paradisians shamed and ridiculed their way of living until they lost their own homes and turned to urbanizing the forest/mountains. To Sasha hunting and farming are parts of her identity, to give it up for those who never understood them in the first place is a complete betrayal of herself and their heritage. She hated the idea of abandoning that just because a world she's not a part of is changing.
But in her father's words, they are all part of a bigger world that is connected regardless. So she ended up joining the Corps as a soldier, among those who might be prejudicial towards her identity as a native. Those subtle details of Sasha practicing code switching (hiding her accent, rarely talking about home, talking too polite around others) goes well with her character.
As someone who spent most of her life being a subject of prejudice and mockery because she's a minority, Sasha is seen to be warm and eager to know about the rest of the world. She rejoiced on Niccolo's cooking, curiously asked about why Onyankopon looks different and saw Marley in an eyes of a kid instead of a soldier who's planning to destroy it.
That's what made her death even more tragic. She is the least person on the team that could be ignorantly hateful towards Marleyans or other Eldians, because she knew what it's like to be a subject of social prejudice. Yet she died first, on the hands of their own who only saw her as nothing but faceless devil. Sasha lived a life of unjust discrimination and bigotry just for being different, and in the end she died for the same reason.
She was either a lowlife farmer girl or a devil of paradis.
But it's not fair to sum up her story like that. Sasha was a naturally warm and radiant person, but also brave and skillful. She has a knack on both hunting and cooking which she gladly shared to her comrades. She cared for them as much as she let on. And as heartbreaking her death was, I couldn't imagine her having to live through the Alliance and Rumbling arc because that will surely break her.

Controversy: The dwarves are better characters in The Hobbit trilogy, than in the book.
Although much criticized by fans for differences comparing to with the book, it is agreed that the highlights the movies gave to the dwarves was welcome. Ok, the book has deserved public love, I love the book, but that did not stop me from having criticism about parts of the narrative either.
In the book, the dwarves were much of my discontent: (1) starting with their number, 13, practically unnecessary when it is clear that none gain true development and are usually referred to in plural. (2) They are quite inappropriate for the journey, since they carry musical instruments and, when their combat skills are needed, are mediocre, they can not overcome any obstacle on the way, needing to be saved all the time (by Bilbo, Gandalf or others). (3) They are more greedy, there is no voluntary noble attempt to recover the kingdom, are more focused on the treasure that will recover than in the kingdom itself. (4) They do nothing really useful along the way, besides being grumpy, talking about treasure, music, doubting bilbo and needing to be saved. (5) Thorin is a petty leader, there is no real vocation, only his royal blood, if the narrator not inform us who he is, would not stand out at all, his character does not kill Azog (in Azanulbizar) not even Bolg (in BotFA), it only serves as a moral to show the evils of greed, to be able to recover and apologize with Bilbo in the end. (6) Their "plan" is that Bilbo steal how much of the treasure could be possible so that they could retain and then leave, if there are no miracle that kill the dragon, and even Smaug mocks this. (7) The dwarves have no plan, at no time in the journey, and not even against Smaug, they do not even see the Dragon, they are all the time hidden on the mountain depending on the service and salvation of third parties, Bilbo is the only one that values courage to go to Smaug (3 times) and the only one who encourages all of then to continue. (8) Bilbo becomes the "leader" in the end having to make decisions that would be expected of Thorin (by the way, Thorin was never a leader but in the title).
In short, it is not possible to like any dwarves in the book. Not even form a development paragraph for each of them, their acts are tiny and their amount unnecessary. When three of the royal family die in the end, the only consideration I had to regret was about the age of Kili and Fili, but despite that I didn't feel their losses like characters to whom I had attached (they had to have development for this).
On the other hand, the movies had ridiculous decisions: how to relive Azog solely to give Thorin a plot and various scenes of action, persecution, escape and unnecessary combat. When only Bolg would be enough...
...it is obvious that Thorin being much younger and less bearded, and Thorin, Kili and Fili being heartthrobs is just an attempt to please Hollywood and people who watch only for the aesthetic standard. It honestly doesn't bother me that they are aesthetically different from what they are in the book (but it might bother fans more focused on what the characters "should" look like). Lmao...
...it is also obvious that the producers and screenwriters only highlighted Thorin because they believed a badass character, warrior and with a sense of purpose (everything that Bilbo is not as an archetype of protagonist), soon the films transformed Thorin into a “second protagonist”, giving him many scenes, differing from what he is in the book. Are hollywood standards and commonly used in diverse plots dictating the rules of cinema again...
...However, heroes, bumbling and comic as the dwarves are in the movies, there is a greater prominence in each of them and their different personalities, as well as there is a greater sense of nobility and dream to belong when their desire is to "return and conquer the kingdom" (all the thing about Arkenstone like necessary to rule was stupid, but at least they had a better goal than "stealing from the Dragon and leaving if no miracle happens as the prophecy says"), and the fact that they are more prominent fighters in the movies is good too (although the overkill of the nonsense action scenes and the absurd CGI spoiled many of this scenes). They plot a plan against Smaug (even if it was a ridiculous plan, after all who throws hot gold in a fire dragon that loves gold? Ridiculous!).
But these are flaws of the movies and the book, as there was an attempt to cover very silly, too childish or unfounded holes in the book.
The criticism made here about the book, for example, are common in reading groups of The Hobbit: (1) bad development of secondary and supporting characters. (2) Dragon premature death (four pages). (3) Battle of the Five Army summarized. (4) Absence of female characters. (Note that these are points that the trilogy tried to remedy, but in a mistaken and misunderstanding way, unrelated with book, scenes that were pure filler rather than good Extra Canonical contains which would be more preferable).
* And even a child complains about these points in the book!!! So the justification "is a book for children" does not support itself.
* Much of the errors of the trilogy was in script, script decisions badly thought to the scenes (a pity, because I love the cast, the soundtrack, the costume, setting and lease).
I Would follow more the dwarves of the trilogy than the Hobbit's book dwarves.
Do I have criticism of the movies? Yes. Most of them because I love Trilogy, but the criticism comes because I know it could be much better than it was if the amazing parts of the book had been used more carefully and devotion. But I am also not extremist to the point of thinking that the book is perfect.
@anxious-alien-overlord , fantastic conversation we had about this, I owe this post to you ❤️

Sception Reads Cass Cain #4
Tumblr media
Azrael: Agent of the Bat, #56-57 written by Dennis O'Neil, pencils by Roger Robinson
Last Time we had an issue with not much to say about Cass specifically, other than that she had a cute moment with Azrael. I mentioned it was a shame she didn't have more interaction with him in her own series, but in the /early/ early days, before her series even started, she did show up in Azrael's book a few times. I also said Jean-Paul had largely moved past his edge-lord roots, but while he's less edgy than in the Knightfall/Knightsend period his gimmick is still more edge-lordy than I remembered.
Cass did appear in some other books between these two issues, but these together make up a single story, and I have more or less the same things to say about Cass's appearance in both, so we're going to lump them together.
Tumblr media
Anywhere, there's our girl. As usual, her costume's cool and spooky.
Tumblr media
As I've already gone on about elsewhere at length though, without Scott's habit of cheating by just drawing Cass's eyes and facial expressions through it, the fully covering mask renders Cass faceless and expressionless. Combine that with her inability to speak and many comic artists lacking Scott's skill at conveying emotion through body language - instead going for these relatively stock poses... and yeah. It's not that this art is bad or anything, it's perfectly serviceable comic book art and writing. But Cass's character design and gimmicks just don't play well in that context, which was a problem with those elements of her concept.
Tumblr media
Anyway, grumpy ole' Batman wants Azrael and Cass to take out some crime guy, Nick Scratch, who has supply stashes of guns, ammunition, and medical supplies. Fair enough. Dr. Thompkins wants them to do it without hurting anyone, but she usually doesn't get her way in these books. Iirc Thompkins is a DCAU original who got transplanted into the main comic continuity, along with fan favorite Harley Quin, Mr. Freeze's sympathetic backstory, etc. So much good material came from the Bruce Tim animated show.
Tumblr media
Jean explains his gimmick to Cass, who kind of non-reacts to it. But I had kind of forgotten what his deal was at this point, so I guess that's convenient. Jean was raised/indoctrinated by a crazy assassin cult… actually there's some almost sorta parallels with Cass - though much closer to what her backstory would become post reboot. It's almost like there was some thought put into teaming these two particular bat folks up, at least a little. Shame they're not really taking advantage of that with their silent shadow depiction of our girl. Anyway, due to brainwashing Jean fights good but isn't very nice when he wears his costume.
They head to Scratch's place, Cass knocking out the guard out front so Jean can get in without putting on his suit, but then she kind of disappears from the rest of the issue.
Tumblr media
The crime guy turns out to be ridiculous. And we're supposed to believe this guy gathered a cult of like hundreds of people. And they're not just here for the guns and medicine?
Tumblr media
What are you idiots talking about, Nick Scratch is a bigger clown than the local supervillain who is a literal clown.
Tumblr media
Jean-Paul gets recognized by a mook he and Cass beat up earlier in the issue, and part one ends here without Cass showing back up.
...
Tumblr media
Issue 57 picks back up with Valley tricking Scratch into not killing him right away, instead killing him at a gathering the next day in public, and, importantly for Jean-Paul's gimmick, in costume.
Anyway, that night Cass reappears, steals most of Scratch's guns without being seen, goes to free Jean-Paul but he tells her to wait. The next day Scratch puts him in his costume, tries to get his followers to stone him since they're now out of guns, but Azrael's in costume now so he dodges the bricks and busts out of his bindings. Batgirl appears to beat up the few armed guards that are left while Azrael beats up Scratch and the book ends with them getting the med supplies to Dr. Thompkins.
All fine and good and standard, not too much to say about the issue overall, other than…
Tumblr media
Some of these faces are AMAZING.
As for Cass...
Tumblr media
Having Cass disarm the gang without being noticed was a nice touch, but in terms of our Girl she's pretty much playing the silent ninja trope, basically Batman's enforcer on the scene. In this book she's an extension of Bruce's will, keeping tabs on Valley and the Scratch situation alike. Her stealth and combat ability gets highlighted - some of her action panels are pretty great.
Tumblr media
The problem is that she doesn't really come across as much of a character in her own right. Cassandra the teenage girl - sometimes goofy, sometimes defiant, sometimes unsure - just isn't here.
And speaking of unsure - why is she Batman's enforcer, when Bruce himself has known her for like a day? Even having saved Gordon, even with Barbara's endorsement, Batman should be keeping a close eye on her at this point, not trusting her to keep an eye on others. It doesn't help that the way the artist draws her she looks more like an adult rather than a teenager. Too tall, insufficiently gangly. More Bat-woman than Bat-Girl, as though it were still Helena in the costume rather than Cass. It comes down to generic comic book 'this is how I draw woman' stuff - not awful by those low standards, certainly not for the 90s, but lacking in individuality and expression. We're going to see much worse before we get to her solo title, though, so maybe I shouldn't be complaining here.
Again, though, as I've said too many times now, this is not primarily the fault of the A:AotB creatives. Cass's costume design was neat conceptually, and fire in Scott's hands, but fails to get her character and emotions across in the hands and styles of most other artists. In a collaborative/studio/factory format like mainstream superhero books where characters are going to show up in other titles by other creative teams, if a design only works in the hands of one particular artist then it needs another revision. Likewise for the silent protagonist gimmick.
The fact that Cass worked so much worse as a guest in other books may have contributed to her relative lack of crossover appearances compared to other bat characters, which may in turn have led to the eventual editorial decision to turn her into a villain, to see if she might have broader utility as a character that way, and that's the decision that ruined her character for so long.
But that's getting way ahead of ourselves.
