I feel as though people (mostly people who aren't insanely wataeipilled, or involved with shipping in general) are misunderstanding what we're upset about. It's not the simple assumption that we want wataei to be "canon" and that we're upset that that can't happen because of Eichi getting married, it's that HappyEle have been on a character assassination spree recently (Izumi in Mad Party & Kohaku in Last Mission) and we're worried that's going to happen to Wataru and/or Eichi. Regardless of shipping, Eichi never told Wataru, who's supposed to be his "best friend" that he's essentially been engaged to Tori's sister for the best part of a year. If Wataru isn't upset about this, then they've done it once again, because Wataru trusts Eichi to take his mask off around him; whilst the mask is "him", the "mask's purpose" (the title of his card in EP:Link) is to hide oneself. Wataru took it off for EICHI and Eichi ALONE. He put himself on display, allowed his facade to begin to fade around him and be his authentic "self" and opened himself up to possibly even be hurt (which he was immediately, by the way, and CRIED over it. HIBIKI WATARU. CRIED. Because Eichi was indifferent to his confession of love) because he trusts Eichi, and Eichi's told Wataru before (Tempest) that he also trusts him. So, is it or is it not blatant character assassination, and possibly even going back on their more recent development of becoming more honest with each other, if Wataru is not upset with this development?

they’re both great leaders. they both have strong suits and weak suits in the role, they both have growth and development when they’re in that role. they BOTH make on-screen mistakes in that role and aren’t very good at it at first! not getting a more in-depth explanation about it in the movie or series stinks and it’s very interesting to explore, but seriously.

what a fantastic transition

#as much as i absolutely adore LT with all my heart there are no cartoons out there that give me such a CONSISTENT sense of raw visceral joy #than the Fleischer Popeyes #they are the epitome of fun. that’s such a vague word i know but i think it perfectly encapsulates these cartoons #not too gaudy or self absorbed. despite the fantastical nature of some plots and the gags and visuals there’s a down to earth humility as #well. it owns its simplicity very well. hearing that ‘30s jazz reach a climax as the visuals and gags and tactility and emotions get #stronger and faster in the climax of these shorts literally #gives me goosebumps! it’s an adrenaline rush #i also adore Olive Oyl. i mean i love them all. It does seem to be pushing the most straightforward (and imo boring) possible plotline lol, army vs army, big battle, magic vs magic, snore.

I would like to maintain hope that the straightforward plot will be complicated as we go on - like this story can't seriously expect me to root for Daiba over Griffith lol, if he doesn't have a hidden agenda or dark side that comes into play and we're meant to just brush his whole mass torture rape murder artificial behelit thing under the rug, then oof. Like, we had a scene where Silat saw it and defected from Ganishka over it, and now he's working with the mastermind behind it? Does he know? Is this going to factor into anything? What?

Plus it seems too early to set up for a final climactic battle, based on how much Miura suggested he had left to write before he died, so I'm betting it'll end with Guts and co losing or something derailing it, but who knows, maybe they're speedrunning the ending, or there'll be 50 chapters of build up first.

Also Guts being saved by magic from his own rage AGAIN is killing me, like, for fuck's sake. This is no way to pace a story, I'm dying here.

On the plus side it's cool that they're still drawing actual Puck instead of chestnut Puck, and it's always nice to see Silat. But yeah, not super enthused by this chapter lol.

Oh man, re: your ask about the questionnaire, having the q&a bit at the end of the last chapter or at the climax chapter being "what is your partner to you? How would you describe their importance in your life?" Or something similar would be..... insanely gut punching, they're such a neat writing device

the only research I have really done for this fic was to find a questionnaire online that a couples counseling center does actually use so I’ve been mostly going back to that pdf and picking and shaping the question to put at the end based on what’s happening in the chapter….I can totally see a question like “what does your partner mean to you” fitting somewhere in the chapters, but I can also see obikin’s overly dramatic asses saying something like “there are no words in any language I’ve found that properly describes what he means to me”
