FUCK THERE IT IS
I can’t escape the Great Taisho Earthquake even when reading a manga that takes place during the early Showa era

So basically, the manga Killing My Sensei Softly is sorta like Assassination Classroom with the plot twist being Funouhan

I started reading the manga Bless this morning and its a series about a high school boy, who was previously a model, that wants to become a make up artist.
The first few chapters where he does the make up for his classmate, a girl who gets bullied by her peers for her very tall height and heavily freckled face, really made me feel something.
But with the next volume focusing on him going forward with his dream to be a make up artist and getting more experience… idk if this is the right medium to portray this.
Actually, im not sure if its the art style (which looks FINE!) or the fact that manga is black and white, but its very difficult to discern each make up artist style. This would probably work better as a manhwa or literally anything in color since I cannot tell the different styles apart apart from the description, unless its heavy or bold (sorry but i dont want to look back for examples).
I hope to see more interactions between the MC and the FL bc theyre pretty cute together and I like their (currently platonic) relationship. I’d like to see how they both develop as people.

Here is another manga that I've read and really enjoyed recently. I forgot to post about it last week, but I got reminded to do so when I just found out that it's ending soon??? The unofficial translation goes to ch 85 (3 months ago), and the translator for it said it's ending around ch 95. It feels so early because the main characters and their friends entered college recently and it feels like it still has a lot of ground to cover??
Anyway, this manga is called "Last karte -Houjuuigakusha Touma Kenshou no Kioku-" which is roughly Last Medical Record -Memory of Forensic Vetrinarian Kensho Toma-. A description taken from MangaUpdates:
Kensho Toma is an ordinary high school student. One day, he comes across a large number of crows in the park that have died an unnatural death and ends up becoming a veterinarian trainee alongside one of his classmates after becoming involved in the investigation.
CW: animal death

I’m 12 chapters into Medalist and right away I can see how it became an award-winning manga.
I am super excited to see it animated (Winter 2025) because its really hard to visualize the routines on paper. I hope the adaptation does the series justice because I just adopted the MC, Inori, as my new fictional daughter and she deserves it.

Lmao so there’s this josei manga I found and the English translations for the titles are so funny
Matcha Made in Heaven
This love is a travesty-tea?!
I like the 2nd bc it’s close to the literal translation of the Japanese title (Kono koi, Chaban no Tsuki!?) which is This Love, is a Farce!?
I get why the official English went with Matcha Made in Heaven but considering it starts off as a cover to keep the FL’s stalker ex-away, it doesn’t convey the premise well lol

I didnt think Mars Red would turn into Bioshock

In relation to my last post, here’s some pages from Call the Name of the Night
Basically I like how the mangaka plays around with and makes use of negative space. It’s really interesting to look at digitally, and I want to see what it’s like in a physical book (I bought Vol 1 this morning).
It reminds me of the work by Kamatami Yuuki who wrote Shounen Note and Our Dreams at Dusk. But its most evident in their work Hiraeth which makes me so upset that that one is digital only (I ended up buying a physical JP copy)

Series I want to add to my collection this year
O Maidens in Your Savage Season - a group of teenage girls in a literary club deal with puberty. the main girl accidentally walks on her childhood friend “relieving” himself at his desk
Call the Name of the Night - a young girl turns her surroundings into “night” when under distress. lives with a magic doctor to help her cure her ailment. (the artwork is really pretty)
Veil - a more than friends, less than lovers relationship told through vignettes between a blind runaway and an officer. suppose to release this year, but no specifics yet.
Otonari Complex - childhood friends between a tomboy girl and a crossdressing guy in college. the girl slowly realizes her feelings for her friend who has always protected and been there for her
I Want to End this Love Game - a several year long game between stubborn childhood friends, the first one to get embarrassed when the other tells them “I love you” loses.
Series I’m still contemplating about
Laughing Under the Clouds - i watched the anime back in high school. in the tokyopop release decided to actually romanize the family name (kumo - 雲) on stuff like the back of Tenka’s haori and it’s sooo distractingly ugly. i’m going to read it digitally before buying
Steel of the Celestial Shadows - i read some chapters for vol 1 years ago, it’s the same author as Kasane. the rest of vol 1 was translated last year and i’m sorta lost on what’s going on. i want to read vol 2 digitally before making a decision. the artwork and covers look really good
Mars Red - currently reading this and the artist is the same as Laughing Under the Clouds. the volumes look nice and i like the artwork a lot but idk if i like it enough to buy it
One More Step, Come Stand by My Side - really nice artwork and has some pretty interesting stories (one-shot collection). again, idk if i like it enough to buy it rn
Twisted Wonderland - i played the game, i like the artwork, and the MC for this arc being a guy doing kendo is interesting. i haven’t read it digitally yet and that’s mainly whats holding me back
Endroll Back - scanlations never completed past mid-vol 2. there isn’t a digital release, but the physical actually has the dust cover. i don’t actually want to own it, i just want to know what happens
