Early morning muffled giggles, and the pitter patter of feet make Ransom stir in his sleep. His face burrows deeper into the pastel pink ruffles. Feet hanging off the edge of the bed, but his eyes remain close.
“Daddy,” a giggly voice echoes in the hallway as she covers her mouth with her hand. “Uncle Ranny is in my bed again.”
“Is he,” the big beefy man picks up his littlest daughter, throwing her in the air. “Why are you sitting in the hallway?”
“Because,” she points a finger to her bedroom before covering her mouth with her hand. “I think he has twinkle toes!”
“Not the twinkle toes! Why weren’t you in your bed last night?”
“Uhh,” she draws out, shrugging her shoulders. Usually she didn’t sleep in her room on nights before her parents had to go to the hospital. “I — daddy, I slept in Maevey’s room. And then I wake up to go play, and Uncle Ranny is drooling on my satin!”
“Oh, dear. Let’s wake Mr. Twinkle Toes up, okay?” She responds with an okay, nodding her head while he walks into the room. Ransom let’s out a loud snore, hugging onto one of the little girl’s Squishmallows, and she giggles again.
“Ransom,” her father says, but Ransom snores lower. “Ransom!” He kicks the bed, and Ransom shoots up immediately, groaning before flopping back down on the bed. “You’re drooling on the princess’ pillow.”
“Yeah! That’s my pillow. Why do you always sleep in my bed when you have twinkle toes.”
“I don’t have twinkle toes,” Ransom harrumphs, flipping over to his side. He hugs tighter to her stuffed animal, giving her a peek. “Why are you up so early?”
“You do have twinkle toes! You always drool with twinkle toes!”
“Charlie, baby, I,” he stops talking looking at his best friend and teammate before nodding his head, “Yes, princess, I had twinkle toes, and pranced right in here. I’m sorry, but I’ll buy you a new squishy thing,” Bucky clears his throat, and shakes his head. “I’ll buy you something.”
“Ahh! Daddy, I need to see Maevey. Put me down,” she wiggles out of her daddy’s arms before darting towards her sister’s room.
Bucky gives a long look to Ransom before leaning up against his daughter’s dresser. “Yeah, I had twinkle toes, which by the way, why does your wife call it that?”
“Next time we’ll tell the kids you got shit faced, and stumbled into our house because you used my kids as an excuse to call a cab for some girl of the night,” rolling his eyes, Ransom turns his back to Bucky. “You deserve more than one night stands. Ones you can look at without your beer goggles.”
“Not all of us are cut out to marry our highschool sweethearts.”
“You think it was easy for us?” Bucky sighs, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “She had Maeve when she was sixteen. Pregnant when she was fifteen, and yeah, we struggled and made it work. But you…”
“Grew up in a life of privilege. I didn’t buy my way into the NFL. I worked hard to get there,” Bucky sighs, watching his friend. It had become a frequent pattern with Ransom coming to his house to hide from his problems. The extra help with the kids was nice, but Ransom wasn’t living his life.
“Didn’t say you did. I’m saying those kids love you, and you adore them. You’re worth more than being a fake uncle,” yawning Ransom turns to look at Bucky with an unreadable face. There is zero emotions on his face as he looks at his friend. “There’s going to be some woman who the kids love, and she’s going to send you on a whirlwind. You two are going to fall so hard for each other.”
“Why are you in here, Buck?” He responds pitifully. Ransom was never much into love. It was a made up word that very few could ever hold in their hands. They made excuses and claimed they loved or were in love, but people always disappoint you.
“You’re in my house, and in my daughter’s bed. But Nixon has an appointment. We’re staying overnight, and the girls would rather…”
“You don't have to ask. I don’t want them with anyone else anyways. They’re the only women in my life that don’t make my life a living hell,” Charlie’s bedroom door squeaks open, and the little girl runs onto Ransom’s lap, while the oldest bashfully walks in. She looks at her dad before back at Ransom.
The tall man looks towards the teenager, narrowing his eyes, and pursing his lips. He’s seen this look more than once in his life. “What do you want, Maeve?”
“So, you know my favorite artist right?” Her voice is nearly a whisper. Almost embarrassed to ask Ransom this.
“Picasso?”
“No, recording artist,” she giggles, shaking her head. She whispers out your name, and looks back at her father quickly. “Umm, she’s playing Gillette tonight. Mom already said we could go, but…”
“Who is that?” Ransom asks, confused. “She…what do you mean she’s playing Gillette?”
“Well, she is the number one artist in the world right now. She’s doing this stadium tour, and she’s going to be here for a few days. I think the itinerary I got online is correct. I know you can’t always believe everything you see on the internet, but I really want to go. Charlie likes her, too,” her little sister nods her head, and whispers into Ransom’s ear about how pretty you are. “It would mean everything to me.”
“Maevey, if she’s as big as you say she is, I might not be able to get us in,” there was only one way he could get the girls in, and he really didn’t want to go down that road again.
“You’re literally the starting tight end of the Patriots,” Maeve wasn’t going to give up without a bit of a fight.
“Your dad is the quarterback.”
“And didn’t you date some…”
“Ahh! I didn’t date her! No, absolutely not,” Ransom decides quickly he isn’t going to ask his ex about tickets to one of the biggest concerts of the year. But then the littlest girl looks up at him, sweetly asking pretty please with a cherry on top, and he can’t say no.
Tumblr media
You bite at your lip, getting a little slap on your wrist by your makeup artist. She hates when you ruin her work. Your lipstick was already on, and now she has to go back and fix it. Staring at yourself in the mirror, you hardly recognize that girl anymore. She’d been through hell recently. Bad breakups are never easy. Worse when the world can watch.
Sighing, you look towards the door. There is always something that bothers you about this talk show. She was invasive, and played up what the tabloids said. You couldn’t keep a man. You just date around to write songs. You were seeing just how many notches you could get. It was insulting.
You are sure you’re not the only woman in the world to date or date around. What you did just was viewed by the world. Growing up in front of the camera may not be ideal, but you didn’t know anything else. This life was all you knew. It gave you the world, while also taking away so much. You loved it, and feared it. You welcomed it, and also wished you could turn it off sometimes. There was never a break.
Someone knocks on the door, and whispers out your name, letting you know it was time to go on to the set of Leslie Locke. Your team always wanted you to put in a good face for this show. It was fun, and the fans enjoyed it, but too bad the press enjoyed your humiliation more.
You squint from the lights as you walk onto set, greeted halfway by Leslie when you take a seat in a chair opposite her. Her blue eyes give you a strange look, and you look out to the audience awkwardly. She was up to something. You just knew it, but what is the question?
“So you had a pretty rough start to the year,” you smile at her, and give her a nod. She was already starting in on you and your relationship. “But the good thing is I’m sure you got some good songs out of it, right?”
“I’d say most writers use their life experiences to tell a story. How is it any different than a writer of a book?” Leslie isn’t used to you snapping back. With age comes a need to protect your peace. Her mouth goes tight as she looks at the camera and then back at you.
“But aren’t authors embellishing the story?” With the breakup came a new realization that you had the power and voice. You didn’t need someone to protect you. You could do it yourself. “We all embellish. Even when I talk to my girlfriends, I’m embellishing the story.”
“So you admit that you use your songs to make yourself look better in the breakup?” She always twisted your words. It was her schtick. You smile, shaking your head no, but have no intentions of elaborating. It wasn’t worth the argument.
“Well, I want to play a game with you,” oh good grief. She loved these stupid games. “Since you’re back on the market, I thought it would be fun to show you some single men,” you turn to look towards one of the cameras with a deadpan look. “No, this will be fun. They’re hot men, just not your usual type.”
“Okay, fine,” you sigh, knowing that it would be easier just to agree.
“Good, good,” she holds up the first picture, and you roll your eyes, shaking your head rapidly. “What’s wrong with Dayton White?”
“I don’t date race car drivers.”
“You mean you haven’t, but you could?” This is a hard no. You wouldn’t date him. “Okay, what about this guy? Big, tall, buff, and he’s a boxer,” you wait a moment for her to give you a name. “This is August Walker.”
“I don’t like the mustache. I like mean without too much going on with their face. Clean cut, ya know?”
“Well, that leaves out these two. Okay, so he’s a football player,” you scrunch up your nose, already looking disgusted. Why would you date a football player? “He’s 6’5”, tight end for the New England Patriots,” not interested. “Blue eyes, all of 265 pounds of man, and a bit of a wild card,” your ears perk up because of course they do. You love those men that have that slight toxicity. They are your weakness. And you hate it.
“Completely baby faced, and he does love going out,” please be ugly. Please be ugly. “You have no idea who Ransom Drysdale is, huh?”
“Ransom?” She flips the card over showing you what he looks like, and you’re a goner. “Oh,” you stutter, trying to look away from his face. “Oh, he’s kinda cute,” the fact that he was holding a small little girl, while hugging another. It made him even more attractive, if his angelic face wasn’t enough.
“Kinda? That is one hell of a man,” yeah, he was. You can’t even imagine how big he would be next to you.
“He’s got kids?” They were adorable little girls. You didn’t think you wanted to date someone with kids, but he could be worth it. You had never dated someone with kids. No, it didn’t matter anyways. You weren’t going to date this man. You were going to look him up. Maybe check out a few pictures of him.
“No, these are his teammate Bucky Barnes’ daughters. He’s very close with the quarterback on the team,” sure he was. He didn’t have kids, that was better. You loved kids, but weren't ready for that. But him being good with kids is a good quality. “You have no idea what the QB does, huh?”
“He throws the ball? Catches it? Tackles?”
“Football isn’t your thing, I see,” she didn’t even answer the question. Fine, you made a public declaration of finding him attractive. Great. You can already see the tabloids writing some stupid nonsense. He is cute though. And somehow loving kids that aren’t his is making him more attractive. It shows he could be a father, but was smart enough to prevent it. Ugh, you can’t be thinking about things like this. You just know his name. But a name is a start. No! Not this one. You will not fall into this trap again.

Maeve plops down on the couch, sighing as she looks out the window. Ransom was running late, and that only meant one thing. She wasn’t going to the concert tonight.
“Maevey!” Charlie says, bouncing on her older sister’s lap. “Don’t be sad. Uncle Ranny is watching us tonight, and she’ll be at Gillette tomorrow night, too. Can we make bracelets again?” Maeve wants to say no, until she sees her sister’s dark green eyes pleading up at her. “Pretty please?”
“Fine, go get the stuff. I’m sure Ran will just have pizza delivered. And…we’ll watch her interview on Leslie Locke’s today,” it wasn’t the same as actually seeing you in concert, but it would be fine. Maybe you’d talk about some upcoming music. Maybe you’d talk about a new project.
Charlie runs into her room to grab up her beads and elastic. Anything to play and spend time with her big sister. Bringing it back with the biggest smile on her face.
By the time Ransom walks into the house, he gives Maeve a regretful smile, shaking his head, “Maeve, I did try. Me and Candy didn’t end well, so I didn’t think she would help me out. And hey, your dad is the QB, shouldn’t he be able to help?”
“They’re sold out,” her voice is flat as she returns to stringing on a bead. “She’ll be on Leslie’s soon.”
“Leslie Locke’s?” Ransom groans, sitting on the floor with the girls. “All that woman wants to do is hook people up with another celebrity. She’s obnoxious, but she asks questions that nobody wants to ask. You guys really watch that trash?” Maeve shrugs her shoulders, adding another bead to her current bracelet. “What is this?”
“I love friendship bracelets! Here, Uncle Ranny, you start one. You gonna get twinkle toes this weekend?” Snorting, he shakes his head no. Giving a groan when the Leslie Locke theme song plays in the background. It is like he was getting irritated by just the thought of having to hear her voice. “I like when you get twinkle toes. It means we’re going to wake up with you here.”
“I’m here now to watch you because,” he pauses, looking up at Charlie whose eyes darken a moment. “Nixon will be okay. They think there’s a new…”
“Ran, don’t,” Maeve pulls Charlie over into her lap, giving her tiny sister a kiss on the head. “He’s going to be okay, sissy.”
“Of course he is, princess. Nixie boy is going to be so strong, and going to be the best linebacker that the east coast has ever seen,” reaching out his hand, he gives the little girl a tap to her nose, “I promise, Nixon will be okay.”
“Yeah. Yeah, you’re right. Hey, look! Maevey! There she is. Oh, she’s so pretty, huh, Uncle Ranny?” Both girls turn to look towards Ransom, and he is only staring at you as you wave to the camera. Giving the audience the prettiest smile. He’s notices the fake smile you give Leslie. He’s done it a few times.
“What do you think?” Maeve leans towards him, bumping his shoulder. “You have just as much chance as those normal people. But she has this tendency to,” Maeve’s words turn into mush as Ransom watches you. He hadn’t ever seen anyone more beautiful. He isn’t sure why he hadn’t ever thought to look you up. Especially when there was the rumor you would be singing at the Super Bowl.
Your fake little giggle as you look at Leslie is even adorable. He isn’t paying attention to whatever little game Leslie is playing with you until Charlie sees it.
“That’s me!” Charlie shouts, jumping out of her sister’s lap. “That’s me! Maevey, she’s looking at us.”
“Oh, my god,” Maeve chokes out, hearing you mention how Ransom was cute. “Oh my god! She’s seen my face. She…she’s — Ransom, do you understand what this means?” Ransom can’t think of anything other than the fact that you are staring at a picture of him.
“I have an idea. Ran, I have — Ransom Drysdale! She’s going to be at the children’s hospital before her concert. Ransom! Ransom, pay attention to me.”
You thought he was cute. You smiled a genuine smile looking at him. His phone hadn’t rang. Leslie wasn’t trying to put her meddling nose where it didn’t belong. He could call his people, and get them to call your people. This could work. One date. One night.
“Ransom!”
“What?” He asks, finally looking at Maeve.
“I have an idea, and you won’t have to get anyone’s teams involved. It would just be you and her. It’s perfect, and she loves simple things. She loves little sneaks. And I think she kinda liked the idea that you don’t have kids, but you’re around them. Ran, I know what we need to do.”
Tumblr media
Performing was the easy part of your career. Having moments to tell your stories with a guitar in your hand. Nothing else matters. Just you and the movement of the lyrics. Looking up to see the children’s faces makes you smile.
You wanted a family. One day you would have some of your own. Even though you’re sealed up in a studio alone, this is one of your favorite crowds to perform for. Big beaming smiles as they hang on to every word that you say. They always called you powerful, but they were the powerful ones. Always able to have a smile on their face.
Smiling despite whatever was going on in their lives. Enjoying life regardless of what their diagnoses were. Simple. Peaceful. Looking back down at your guitar, you close your eyes for a moment, and just feel the music. Everyone always had something going on in their life. Money couldn’t buy you everything. Definitely couldn’t make bad stuff from happening to you.
Opening them back up, you look out into the small audience and choke. Having to look away from the handsome man that was standing in front of you. You had only just seen him in a photo recently, and there he was. It was like the clouds had opened up, and the sun shone right on him. His blue shirt setting off his eyes even more. And those jeans made his legs look days long. He is staying casual, even a brand new pair of Nikes on. He wasn’t even remotely your type, and still you feel drawn to him.
“Uncle Ranny she saw you,” Ransom shakes his head no. He imagined the crack in your voice when you looked up at him. He has to hold Charlie up, so she could actually see over the crowd in front, and Maeve leans over on his shoulder. “Yeah huh. She did. Or it was me.”
“It was definitely you,” Ransom responds without looking away from you. You looked delicate in that room all by yourself. Strumming on a guitar and peaceful. He didn’t have the best reputation in the NFL. The reputation of a perpetual playboy. Love them and leave them, so if you wanted to even talk to him, you would have to accept that. And from what research he did on you, any male in your vicinity was automatically your Prince Charming.
Two people from very different careers, and rumors that ruled your careers just as much as your talent. The rumors aren't always true. Some nights Ransom doesn’t even go home with those women. He crawls into a tiny little twin sized princess bed with pink ruffles. The tabloids could write what they wanted to. But this — this is an intimate setting, and he’s never seen anyone more beautiful than you.
You might not realize it, but you look at each child that is watching you perform. Giving them a moment of joy. There are no cameras, and nobody to see what you’re doing but these kids and family. And then he realizes he must look like the biggest asshole because he was here.
“We should go,” he whispers, and he swears he sees you shake your head no. Could you read lips, and were you asking him not to go?
“No, we can’t,” Maeve whispers, her eyes staying on you the entire time. “You have to give her what you made.”
“Maeve, this is silly,” she gives her quasi uncle a quick pinch on his forearm. Something she’s done most of her life. Her silent way of letting him know that she wasn’t going to change her mind, she needs to see this through. “I can just get…”
“She doesn’t like setups like that. She wants things to be organic.”
“I showed up at the children’s hospital to see her,” and saying it out loud sounds even more absurd than it felt. He was crossing a line by coming here.
“You are just bringing us to our parents, so we can check on our little brother because he’s going to have another surgery. This is as random as you can get,” Maeve’s words stop in her mouth as you smile at the three of them. Your eyes looking back to the kids in the front. You aren’t sure why they are there, but you aren’t entirely upset about it either.
He looks more handsome in person. And the way those girls are so comfortable with him. A quick Google search told you how close he was with his QB. How he spent a ton of free time with him, and his kids. You hope that they linger. You always want to give time to everyone before they are shuffled back into their room. Hoping a smile towards them, and holding up a finger, asking them to give you a minute will be enough.
You know it isn’t going to be long before you are going to be ushered away in preparation for the show. Taking a deep breath, you go to hug each and every one of them. Watching your PA from the side who is constantly checking on the time. Hopefully Ransom and his nieces understood it wasn’t being rude. She was always conscious of your time.
As soon as the last person is pulled away from your side, you stand up straight to look at Ransom with whatever smile your social battery will allow. Your PA says your name, and motions you with her head it was time to leave, “Give me ten more minutes?” She looks at Ransom and the girls, and holds up her whole hand. Five minutes was better than nothing.
“So,” you huff out walking towards them. Having to gulp when you realize just how massive Ransom is. No wonder the little girl looked tiny in his arms. “Uh,” you giggle, not knowing exactly what to say. “I’m sorry.”
“My brother is here,” the oldest girl blurts out, and pulls at Ransom’s arm. “He has something for you.”
“No, I don’t.”
“Yes. You do. He’s on the Pats. He tried to get tickets to your show last night, but they were sold out. I’ve always wanted to see you. I’m your biggest fan. My little sister, Charlotte, loves you, too. She’s just four, so she doesn’t understand all the lyrics. But I do. I love how you kinda tease your fans, and give us little Easter eggs in anticipation for your next album, or sneak things into your videos. It’s so cool,” panicking she looks up at Ransom. Realizing she had word vomited all of that to you. This wasn’t how she imagined meeting you would go.
“Maevey, breathe,” the little girl giggles, before hiding her face on Ransom.
“She talks a lot when she’s nervous,” Maeve gives him a pinch to his arm, and if you weren’t standing right in front of him, laughing a tiny bit, he wouldn’t do what he was about to do. “I did try.”
“Well, what if I told you that I have a few extra tickets to the show. I always ask for a box at these stadium shows to stay empty for me just in case. It’s still empty,” both the girls squeal, and Maeve tugs on Ransom’s arm a bit. “I should probably go, honestly. But…I’ll have my people call yours?”
“Uhh…where is,” You point over to a few hidden areas in the hospital. You had people everywhere. He’s sure most are for security. But still one could figure out what it was Ransom needed to do to get to the stadium. Maeve gives him another pinch to his arm, and he grunts as you start to turn around.
“Uh, me and the girls, we uh — we made you something.”
“That’s adorable,” you preen, looking between both of the girls. Ransom reaches his giant hand into his pocket, and pulls out a crude bracelet.
“We made friendship bracelets last night instead of watching your concert. I just brought them here to see their parents and baby brother.”
“This is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me,” you’ve had sweet things given to you. But there is something about envisioning this man on the floor with two girls, and making a bracelets with those thick fingers. “Thank you. Honestly, I want to see you guys in the box tonight. Jared will get you all the info that you need.”
“Yes. Yes, you will. Ransom has nothing to do. Nothing at all,” you liked the teenager with him. Even when nervous, she still said what she thought.
Ransom sighs as you walk away. Thankful you hadn’t looked at what the bracelet said while you were in front of him. He could breathe again, but you couldn’t. Walking with your PA, your fingers play with the bracelet until you are helped into your car.
“June, he’s so hot. Like hot hot obviously. He’s so big and wide, and the way he delicately held Charlotte? Oh my god. That was the sweetest thing, and I need them at the show tonight.”
“Don’t let him be a distraction.”
“I won’t,” you roll your eyes, finally giving the bracelet a look. He was smooth. You stuff it back in your pocket. Smiling from ear to ear, and knowing that when you go alone, you were going to pick up your phone, and make sure that he had your number, too.

Bronze Is Better Then Gold Part 3

Warning - gun violence, some sexual harassment language
“Where would you like to go?” Lucy looked over at Ona.
“It’s your birthday, we can go wherever you like.”
Lucy sat back in her seat thinking. “There’s a restaurant not far from here that I’ve wanted to go, it’s Spanish Tapas.”
“Perfect, I love it already.” Ona smiled.
“Okay, but only if you’re sure. I don’t mind if you don’t want to.”
Ona rolled her eyes. “What? Come on. Don’t be stupid. Of course I want to go. It’s your birthday, we have to celebrate.” Ona said it like it was the most obvious thing to do.
Lucy nodded her head and smiled. She put her keys in the ignition and drove them to the restaurant.
The girls were seated in a booth, Spanish music played throughout. Ona started to dance as she looked around the restaurant “I like it here.” She smiled as she wiggled in her seat.
Lucy couldn’t help but smile, she loved how free Ona was, she seemed to always be happy, never taking herself too seriously.
They ordered their food, sharing a jug of sangria. Lucy only having two glasses as she was driving.
“Your mum is sweet.” Ona smiled at Lucy.
The older brunette nodded, smiling. “Yeah she is. Sorry I know she can be a lot. She doesn’t know when to be quiet sometimes.”
It was clearly obvious what Lucy’s mum had said, Ona heard her. Lucy heard her. And it sounded like Lucy had been talking about the Spaniard quite a bit to her mum. The younger girl wanted to tease Lucy, or maybe even question her on it, but she had seen in the car just how embarrassed she had gotten. Even now she was trying to avoid her eyes, clearly not wanting to talk about it.
But, did Ona feel completely giddy at the thought of Lucy talking about her to her mum? Yes!
In all honesty Ona wouldn’t even know how to go about that kind of conversation. Their flirting was something the younger girl wondered about constantly. She wondered if it was just Lucy’s personality, maybe she was just a flirt? Maybe it wasn’t anything serious and Ona was just fantasising it all?
But Ona had seen the way Lucy looked at her, how she acted around her. She had heard the small teasing from the girls in the office. But if Lucy wasn’t going to say anything neither was Ona. Yeah, she was brave enough to take down criminals and drug lords, but to ask Lucy if she had any feelings towards her? No. That’s something she couldn’t do and clearly neither could Lucy.
She also didn’t want to ruin the friendship, she really got on with Lucy, she didn’t want it ever be weird between them just because she opened her mouth about how she felt. She had noticed Lucy wasn’t great with her feelings, she was a lot more reserved than Ona. Lucy was also kind of her superior, well kind of. They had the same title but Lucy had a lot more experience and years under her belt.
Ona scooped up some food bringing it to her lips. “Mums are just that way.” Ona chuckled lightly.
Lucy rolled her eyes. “Yeah.”
“So when did you learn Spanish?” Ona asked, deciding on changing the subject.
“I lived in Barcelona for a year when I was 22, so I taught myself Spanish.”
Ona raised her eyebrows and smiled. “That’s impressive, most brits don’t want to learn the language.”
“Well, I’m half Portuguese. So I picked it up a bit easier.”
“Ahh, I see. What did you think of Barcelona?”
Lucy sat back. “Beautiful. Such an amazing city. I loved the people, they’re so calm. Going to the beach everyday didn’t hurt.”
Ona smiled. “What made you move there?”
“I went travelling, Barcelona was fifth on my list but I ended up staying for a girl.” She took a sip of her drink.
“Ohh she’s a romantic.” Ona wiggled her eyebrows.
Lucy chuckled. “I wouldn’t say that, but I try.” She shrugged her shoulders, playfully smiling at Ona.
“Do you have any siblings?” Ona asked.
“Yeah, I have an older brother and a younger sister. My brothers got a little girl, Rudy. She’s crazy.” Lucy smiled to herself.
“Oh you’re the middle child? That explains a lot.” The younger girl laughed at her own joke.
Lucy laughed. “It’s not our fault we get left behind and have to fend for ourselves.” Lucy chuckled. “Do you have any siblings?” Lucy asked.
“I have an older brother. He speaks to me sometimes but not so much, I think my mum and dad don’t like him talking to me.”
“I’m sorry, Ona.”
“I’m used to it now. I have some good friends, some from Barcelona that live in London. So it’s not so bad. I also have new friends.” She lifted her glass towards Lucy, taking a sip.
Both girls couldn’t help but feel like they was on a date of such. Yes, it was for Lucy’s birthday, it was spontaneous (only because of her mum) but it was just them, them and that invisible rope pulling them closer. It felt like another boundary of their relationship had been pushed, from the car trips, the late night texting, the constant flirting. Another layer had been added to the mix, and neither girl knew what to do with it.
The evening was relaxed and chilled, both girls finding out more about the other. Ona even said the food reminded her of a restaurant back home. They spent hours just talking, their food was long gone, other tables had long left. It was only until the staff started to make a point of clearing the tables around them that they decided to leave.
“Looks like they want us gone.” Lucy laughed.
Ona huffed, not wanting to leave. “Yeah, I guess.”
“Let me just get the bill.” Lucy looked for a waiter.
“I’ve paid. It’s your birthday. You don’t pay.”
“What? Ona no. God you’re sneaky. When did you do that?”
“When I went to the bathroom.” Ona started to get up, clearly not caring about the older brunettes protests.
“Thank you. You really shouldn’t have.” Lucy smiled shyly.
“It’s no problem.” Ona smiled back.
Lucy couldn’t help but feel a sense of pure happiness but also a weird feeling of sadness. She was starting to get big feelings for the small girl next to her. In the space of a month Ona had made her remember what it was like to be happy, she was like a breath of fresh air, something Lucy needed. Their constant flirting was hard to read but it was so natural, she was just worried, worried it might not be as mutual as she wanted.
She pulled up outside Ona’s building, in her usual spot.
The words were on the tip of her tongue, Ona had played them back in her head countless times. ‘Do you want to come up?’ It was six easy words, but she couldn’t form them. You didn’t have to be a genius to realise Lucy and Ona liked each other but for some reason they were the thickos that didn’t see it. If you were in there company for more then five minutes it was obvious.
Both of the girls wanted the same thing, but know one had the guts to take it that step further. Ona wanted to be brave but she was unsure. As much as she thought Lucy liked her, she still had some doubt.
“So, I’ll see you tomorrow?” She winced at her own words.
“Yeah, I’m looking forward to it, haven’t done anything for my birthday in a while. Should be fun.” Lucy smiled at the younger girl.
“So am I. Will be nice to go out and have a night out, I’m glad I get to celebrate your birthday with you. This was nice.”
Lucy smiled softly at the brunette. Her beautiful brown eyes looking back at her. It was like she could feel Ona wanted to say something.
“Yeah, it was. Thank you again.”
Once again both the girls wanted to just lean in and kiss the other, wanting so badly to feel her lips.
Ona slid out the passenger side. Lucy didn’t leave until she saw the front door close behind her. Her shoulders slumped as she sighed.
————-
Lucy took one last look at herself in the mirror before she headed out. She had decided to go for a simple look but still enough to look like she actually tried to make an effort.
She had on brown cargo trousers and a cropped white vest, showing off her abs of course. She wore a pair of brown and white trainers, finishing her hair off in a neat bun.
👮🚓👮 group chat
Demi - be there in 5
Jill - me and Mary are at the table
Lauren H - on way will see you in a bit
Lucy was running a little late, but only by ten minutes or so, it was her birthday she could be late if she wanted.
Her Uber pulled up outside, she took one last look at herself and made her to her ride.
From the group chat it seemed everyone was there.
She thanked the driver and made her way inside, she could hear the girls before she could see them. She went upstairs to a sea of faces, everyone had turned up, but there was one face that stuck out the most.
Ona. And she looked good.
She had her hair down, falling over her shoulders. Lucy had never seen it down before, she had worn it in a bun since the day she started. Her hair had caramel waves blended with her her dark hair, it made her face even brighter.
The Spaniard wore loose jeans, with and oversized pink shirt, wearing a black lace vest underneath, slightly revealing her chest. Lucy couldn’t keep her eyes off the girl. She tried to make a bee line for Ona, but before she could she felt an arm around her shoulder.
“There she is!” Millie’s voice boomed in Lucy’s ear. She put a shot glass under Lucy’s nose, the smell of liquorish hitting her nostrils.
“Come on, drink it. Don’t make me force you.”
Lucy laughed, she took the glass and swallowed the bitter substance, Wincing slightly from the burn trickling down her throat. Millie whooped, patting her on the back.
“Thats it. They’ll be more of that later.” The blonde walked off, pushing another shot glass under Lauren J’s nose.
The brunette laughed at her friend’s antics, shaking her head. She turned to look back at her destination, finding a pair of eyes on her. Ona was smiling brightly at her, she felt her eyes moving up and down her body, stopping on her stomach, clearly enjoying the view.
She walked to the table where Ona, Jordan and Demi sat. Demi caught where Ona’s eyes had landed.
“About time. We thought you’d never make it!” Demi said.
“You can’t be on time to your own party Demi, come on.” Lucy smirked.
“Come on then, what you drinking?” Jordan stood up grabbing Lucy behind her neck.
“Rum and coke please.”
“Have they been nice to you Ona? You can tell me, I’ll have them filing reports all week.”
“Oi, we’re always nice!” Demi shouted before she was being dragged by Jordan to help with drinks.
“You look nice.” Ona smiled shyly at Lucy.
Lucy felt her cheeks blush. “Thank you, so do you.”
—————
Once everyone had gotten a few drinks down them, they headed over to the karaoke bar. Of course Millie and Rachel went first, singing their hearts out to Tina Turner - Proud Mary.
Everyone whooped and clapped as they walked off the stage.
“Right come on birthday girl, it’s your turn.” Millie handed the mic over to Lucy.
“What? No, I’m even not even close to drunk enough.”
“Don’t be daft. Here take it.” Millie pushed the mic into Lucy’s hand.
Demi and Jordan laughed at Lucy’s face, clearly not happy.
“Come on sour puss.” Jordan laughed.
“Ona will do it with you! You can do a duet. Come on!” Demi joined in then.
Lucy looked over at Ona, who was currently having her ear chewed off by Mary.
“Ona! Come. Lucy’s needs you.” Jordan shouted.
Lucy wanted to slap Jordan for phrasing her words like that but she couldn’t help the smile that appeared on her face when Ona nearly got whiplash with how quick she turned her head.
“Me? For what?” She smiled.
“I don’t think I can say that out loud.” Jordan whispered so only Lucy could hear. She got a slap to the head, and a Lucy death glare.
The shorter brunette walked over, her abs on full show now. Lucy couldn’t stop her eyes from gazing over her skin. The Spaniard caught her eyes, smirking knowingly.
“What is it you need?” Her accent was stronger now that she had a few drinks, a cheeky smile plastered her face.
“Lucy wants you to duet with her.” Jordan smiled from ear to ear.
“Fancy it?” Lucy raised her eyes brows.
“Sí. What are we singing?”
——-
“We can ride it together, ah-ah making love with each other, ah-ah.” Lucy and Ona sang the words together. 🎵
Neither girl could hold a note to save their life’s but they didn’t care, they couldn’t hold back the smiles as they sang. Ona could just about keep up, making up the words as she went, Lucy’s northern accent was thick, making the whole situation 10 times funnier. The group was cheering them on, whooping and clapping, Jordan of course was filming the whole thing.
The song ended, Ona grabbed Lucy’s hand in hers and bowed, both taking glances at the other, laughing at themselves. The group cheered and whistled.
More drinks were consumed, Lucy could feel it but she wasn’t completely drunk, just happy and a little more talkative. She was in the middle of Jill and Demi, arguing about something unimportant, her attention left the conversation a while ago. She had been watching the Spaniard, she was laughing at something Lauren H said. She couldn’t help but smile at hearing her laugh, her laugh was beautiful, it was so high compared to her normal lower voice. A voice Lucy couldn’t help but find herself thinking about constantly.
Ona seemed to be the life of the party, but Lucy wasn’t shocked at that. Ona was a people person, the girls gravitated towards her, she was warm and charismatic, fun and free. Things Lucy loved-liked….liked about her.
“What do you think, Lucy?”
Lucy was pulled from her thoughts. “What?”
Jill and Demi looked at where Lucy was looking, then back at each other.
“You’ve got it bad.” Jill laughed.
“At least you don’t have to watch them throughout the day. The flirting is relentless. It’s crazy how two people can be so obvious that they want each other and not do anything about it.” Demi scoffed.
Lucy scrunched up her face. “Shut up. We don’t flirt. She doesn’t even like me like that.”
Demi rolled her eyes. “Give over. You know she does.”
Yeah, sometimes Lucy maybe wondered if Ona liked her, but that then she would tell herself it was nothing serious. Yeah they did flirt, Ona definitely liked to flirt, and Lucy really enjoyed it, but maybe that’s all it was? Just a bit of office flirting. Lucy didn’t want to assume, and be completely embarrassed when Ona didn’t know what she was talking about, if for some crazy reason Lucy would ask.
They were also partners, she didn’t want to make it awkward. Ona was really good at her job, she had picked everything up quickly and even spotted things Lucy had missed on the case they were working on.
So no, Lucy would play dumb to it. Yeah Demi, Jordan and Jill knew she liked Ona but there was nothing else to it. She just fancied her. No one knew her real feelings towards Ona and that’s exactly how she wanted it to stay.
“Whatever, anyways our tables booked for 10. We better get going.” Lucy quickly changed the subject, downing the rest of her drink.
“Alright, I’ll stop teasing.” Demi nudged Lucy’s arm. Downing her own drink. She then loudly cleared her throat.
“Right guys! Drink your drinks, we’re heading to the Pink Lady. We’re leaving in 5 minutes!”
———————-
Lucy sat at the table drink in hand, she was speaking to Chloe about women’s football. Most of the girls were up dancing or at the bar ordering more drinks. To Lucy’s surprise she was actually having a good time, not that she didn’t think she would, but she wasn’t one to celebrate her birthday, she didn’t like anyone to fuss over her. But tonight had been nice, everyone came out to celebrate and it seemed like everyone was having a good time of their own.
She glanced over at the dance floor, she could see a couple of the girls dancing but her eyes were scanning for a certain someone.
Until she saw her with Jill, carrying over a tray of shots, Jordan following with two bottles of what looked like champagne.
“Who’s ready for Tequila!” Ona shouted.
Lucy and Chloe cheered.
“Come on then! Don’t even try to say no Lucy. You’re having a shot.” Jill stated.
“I wasn’t going to argue!” Lucy chuckled, picking up herself a shot.
“Good.” Jill and the rest of the girls licked the back of their hands, shaking a small bit of salt on their skin.
Before Lucy could say anything else Ona’s hands was on her neck, moving any strands of hair from her skin. She tried not to think to much of it, maybe she was more touchy when she had a drink in her, she knew the Spanish were touchy people. Until Ona’s face was suddenly close to Lucy’s.
“llest?” She husked out.
That’s when Lucy felt her tongue on her neck, slowly gliding up her skin.
Her eyes closed at the sensation of Ona’s tongue on her neck. Before her brain could make her mouth talk she felt the small grains of salt stick to her neck and suddenly Ona’s mouth was back on her skin. She glided her tongue quickly, pressing a small kiss at the end and then her lips were gone. She watched as Ona drank her shot, her face scrunched from the burning liquid, then the lime was in between her lips.
Lucy’s brain wasn’t waking up, she knew what just happened but she couldn’t believe that it did. Ona caught her eyes, smiling playfully at her.
“Fuck! That was hot Ona! I didn’t know we were doing it the sexy way.” Chloe laughed out loud.
“Is this not the right way? Don’t you do it this way? Me and my friends do it this way.” Panic set in on the Spaniards face.
“No, I mean you can, but by Lucy’s face I don’t think she knew.” Chloe really laughed then. She nudged Lucy’s shoulder.
“I don’t think she has any complaints.” Jill then laughed.
Lucy chuckled softly, she breathed out loud, looking over at Ona, who genuinely looked worried.
“Scott’s right, I have no complaints.” Lucy finally got her mouth working.
Ona felt her cheeks burn, she did it this way with her friends all the time. Of course she  didn’t glide her tongue as purposeful as she did with her friends, and yeah she never left a soft kiss at the end but still, that’s just what they did. She didn’t have time to be embarrassed though as Jordan spoke up.
“It’s only right if Lucy does it back to Ona, bad luck and all that.” She chimed in.
Lucy felt herself freeze up again. Ona wasn’t going to say ye-
“That’s fine with me.” Ona smiled confidently at Lucy, clearly her nerves had left her.
Lucy didn’t have time to think, Ona sat closer to her revealing her neck. It was probably the drink that pushed her but also the fact that there was no way she was going to turn this down.
She pushed the younger brunettes hair back from her neck, letting her fingers just barely touch her skin. She could see Ona breathing a little harder, she opened her mouth and glided her tongue slowly up Ona’s neck.  Onas eyes closed from the sensation of Lucy’s tongue on her, slightly making her head swoon. Lucy dropped a small amount of salt on the wet patch she left, but instead of licking she sucked gently on Ona’s neck, she heard Ona gasp from the touch. She even heard a wolf whistle behind her, more than likely Jordan.
Lucy let her tongue roam over her skin, loving the small whimper only she could hear, fall from Ona’s mouth. She pulled back and just like Ona she left a quick kiss on her skin.
Ona’s brain was in over drive, her mind felt cloudy, all she could think about was Lucy’s mouth. She had to restrain herself from grabbing Lucy’s face and showing her exactly what she wanted to do to her.
“That was hot!” Chloe shouted. “We have to get another round. If that’s how your friends party. I want party with them, Ona.” Everyone laughed and agreed.
Lucy sat back, proud of herself, she could see Ona was lost for words, she could see the lust in her eyes. She smiled smugly to herself. Maybe, just this once, she had to thank Jordan for opening her mouth.
“Let’s dance!” Demi shouted grabbing both Lucy’s and Ona’s hands. Ona looked over at Lucy a bashful smile appeared on the shorter girls face as they were dragged to the dance floor. The group danced together, they laughed as Jill did the robot, even Lauren H pulled out the worm. Though Lucy’s and Ona’s eye kept meeting, even when they wasn’t right next to each other they could feel each other. As the music kept going the girls kept dancing, the two brunettes finally finding themselves face to face.
The club had gotten busier now, there was less space to dance with more bodies on the dance floor. So when Lucy and Ona were only a couple of centimetres from each other there was no surprise. Lucy couldn’t keep her eyes off the shorter girl, her hips moved so easily with the music. She watched her tight stomach roll to the beat, her long hair flowing down her back. She had to make sure she wasn’t drooling. Ona smiled knowingly up at the girl, she could see the way Lucy was looking at her, she clearly couldn’t hide it now with the drink in her system.
Ona being the braver one of the two moved a little closer to her, she felt cheeky enough to throw her hand over Lucy’s shoulder. Lucy felt her stomach flutter, the alcohol in her system giving her the Dutch courage to pull Ona in by her waist. Her hand landing on her exposed soft skin that was on show, her fingers tickling against her back. She heard Ona make the smallest of gasps, as she was pulled, the older girl had to hold back her own groan.
Ona crept her hand up the back of Lucy’s neck, making sure her fingers were light but enough to give the girl visible chills. Lucy bit her lip from the touch, she had to bite her lip to keep her moan in. She quickly looked down at the floor, trying to ignore the way her body was reacting, but Ona had already noticed, her beautiful brown eyes twinkled with mischief.
Ona pulled Lucy down gently so she could talk to her, closer than she needed to, not that Lucy was complaining. “Why so shy?” She asked.
Lucy shock her head and chuckled. “I’m not shy. Was I shy earlier?”
Ona let out a deep chuckle. “No. You wasn’t.  I liked how you moved your tongue. Maybe we should do another round. But I don’t really need the tequila to do that.” Her lips grazed Lucy’s ear. The older girl closed her eyes and exhaled, trying to calm down the heat that ran through her body.
Ona lent in again. “Would you like that?” Her lips caught the side of Lucy’s mouth, dangerously close to her lips. Ona knew she was being extra flirty, she took the opportunity of the alcohol and the already heated moment they shared earlier to push Lucy. She wanted to see how brave Lucy could be. She wanted to see if all of the flirting was nothing, if maybe she put herself out there just a little more Lucy would reciprocate.
Lucy stared at the Spaniard, the strength it took her to not grab Ona by the hand, drag her the nearest bathroom stall and fuck her till she screamed her name over, and over again was unreal. Those brown eyes were full of lust, it reminded her of when she straddled her in training practice. Another time she wanted to tear the Spaniards clothes off. Her hand was still on her hip, she didn’t realise she was squeezing it until she felt Ona put her hand on hers, stepping impossibly closer. Her face was so close to hers she could feel her breath on her chin.
It wasn’t until the music changed from sexy and slow to fast pop, that Lucy took a step back, putting some space between them. She didn’t miss the way Ona’s face visibly dropped from her movement, her hands dropping from her side. She regretted it instantly when she saw the hurt in her eyes. The thing is she didn’t know what she was doing, her body moved without thinking, she wanted nothing more then to kiss Ona, she wanted to have their bodies pressed against each other. But she was also scared, nervous even. She just needed a to think, she needed air, she needed Ona, but she didn’t know how.
“Erm, I-I’m just going to get a drink, do you want one?” Lucy stumbled.
“No, I’m good thanks.” Ona’s smile never reached her eyes.
Lucy nodded, her lips sucked between her teeth, she grabbed Jordan on the way to the bar, needing her friend.
Jordan grabbed the back of her friend’s neck. Smiling playfully. “Saw someone getting cosy.”
“I fucked it, I got scared. I-I don’t know what do to Jords. I really like her. I just don’t know if it’s a good idea. I don’t want to get close to her then lose her. I couldn’t even look out for Soph-“
Joran stopped her before she could say anymore. “Don’t do that. You got to stop blaming yourself Luce. Please. We were all there. What happened to Sophie wasn’t your fault.”
Lucy looked at Jordan her hazel eyes bore into hers. She squeezed the back of her neck again.
“I haven’t seen you as happy as you are in a long time Lucy, and I think that’s because Ona has brought back that spark in you. Dont loose something because of ‘what if’. Because you’ll be asking that question for the rest of your life.”
Lucy nodded. “Yeah. I know you’re right, I just see Sophie in her Jords, she was free like her.” She smiled sadly.
“I know. I see it too. She was a good one. And so is Ona. I know Sophie would have already forced you into making a move with Ona.” Both girls laughed, Jordan stroked a tear from her eye.
“Yeah, she would have.” Lucy sniffled. “Thank you Jords. I’ll talk to her.”
“Good, now let’s get some drinks.”
“Hey, Jords!” Leah from HR was suddenly next to the girls, her arms open towards Jordan. “You made it!” Jordan happily hugged the blonde back.
“Yeah, sorry we’re a bit late.” Leah said.
A familiar Scottish accent was thrown in the mix. “Hey girls, hope you don’t mind. Leah dragged me along.” Jen waved at Lucy and Jordan. “Happy birthday, Lucy!”
“Ahh thanks, the more the merrier.” Lucy smiled.
“We have a table up over there, what do you want to drink?” Jordan asked.
Leah and Jen looked over at the table, spotting some of the girls from work, Jen spotted one individual in particular. “Ona’s here? Mate she is unreal!.”
Lucy felt her body stiffen up. Her smile dropping. Leah laughed. “Glad I ‘dragged’ you here now?”
Jen hadn’t taken her eyes off the petite brunette, she smiled. “So, so glad. Right, I’m going to put in some work.” She winked at the group. “Leah, can you get me a beer please.”
“Yeah no worries, have fu- oh she’s gone.” Leah laughed. “I bet money she’ll be going home with her tonight. I’ve seen that girl charm the pants off of nun before.”
Lucy watched as the Scottish girl walked towards the table, she made a bee line straight for the Spaniard. She felt her stomach tighten up, an uncomfortable heat swept over her body, as jealousy pricked at her brain. She watched Jen talk to the younger girl, sitting down next to her, she couldn’t help but think Ona looked a bit too happy to see her.
Jordan eyed up her friend, watching as Jen spoke to Ona. She nudged Lucy as Leah paid for her drinks. “Oi, don’t be stupid. She likes you Luce.”
Lucy didn’t look at her friend, she bit the inside of her cheek. She didn’t want to watch the interaction but she couldn’t take her eyes off them. She had no actual right to be annoyed, her and Ona wasn’t together, they wasn’t seeing each other, but… it hurt.
“I’m fine. She’s not my girlfriend.” Lucy shrugged as she drank her beer. Clearly not fine.
As the night went on the group got drunker, everyone was having a good time, except Lucy. She wanted so badly to not let it affect her, but she couldn’t help it. Especially as Jen hadn’t left Ona’s side, she had chewed the girls ear off for half an hour now. Lucy watched as Ona laughed at something Jen said, she could see Jen was getting physically closer to the younger girl, making Lucy’s blood boil.
Jordan tried to distract her, tried to make her laugh, but it was no use, Lucy had gone down a rabbit hole. A hole of anger, sadness and jealousy, and she couldn’t stop herself. She liked Ona, a lot of course she didn’t want to see her being flirted with, and Leah’s words didn’t help.
Ona had lost the mood to dance after Lucy had left her on the dance floor, so she decided to take herself away, feeling a little stupid. She sat at the table scrolling through hers and Lucy’s texts for the 100th time, she wanted to see if she was reading the whole situation wrong. But she saw what she had always seen, flirty texts, ‘good morning’ texts. They even sent each other pictures of their dinners each evening. She was surprised to see Jen when she approached her at the table.
“Hey Ona. Nice to see you here. You’re looking nice.” Jen smiled at the younger girl, her eyes roaming over her body.
Ona liked Jen, as a friend. Dont get her wrong, she was definitely her type but she but she wasn’t the brunette she was after.
“Hey Jen, it’s nice to see you. Ahh thank you, I try when I have to. You look nice also.”
“We both know you don’t have to ‘try’ to look good Ona.” Jen smiled playfully. She sat down next to her. “Why you not dancing?”
Ona ignored the compliment with a polite smile. She knew Jen liked her, she made it very obvious, she flirted with her any chance she could, again, not that Ona hated it, she just had her eyes for another.
“Ohh I just got a little tired.” Ona said.
“I can keep ya company then.” Jen smiled from ear to ear.
The Scott shamelessly flirted with the Spaniard, Ona even found her self blushing at certain points, she had to admit Jen was charismatic, and very attractive. She nearly made her stop thinking about the weird and embarrassing interaction she had with Lucy. Nearly.
Ona was confused, Lucy gave her all the signs of liking someone, they flirted constantly, they did things some couples don’t even do. They had a close relationship, and it was more close than just friends. Was she going about this the wrong way? Maybe Lucy was scared? Or was Ona just delusional? It even made her wonder if Jen liked her or she was just being delusional on that too.
Even though Jen was flirting till the cows came home, she had really good chat. She actually had a lot in common with the girl and the conversation was nice, though she couldn’t stop thinking about Lucy. She hadn’t actually seen her for a while, she thought she must be on the dance floor with the girls, where she wanted to be. Maybe she needed to be straight up with Lucy, just ask her, ask her what’s this is, tell her she likes her. Tell her she’s the first and last thing she thinks about everyday, when she wakes up and goes to sleep. Tell her how much she wants to be with her, emotionally and physically.
Fuck it.
Thankfully some of the girls came over, making Jen say hello to them. Giving Ona a chance to leave without being too rude. Ona stood up. “I’m going to the bathroom, then to dance. I’ll see you around.” She smiled at Jen.
“Yeah, no worries, I’ll see you in a bit.” Jen smiled at Ona but not without glazing her eyes at her tight stomach. Even Ona had to admit her cheeks flushed pink at the look. Though her skin still burned from Lucy’s mouth on her neck, she could still feel her talented tongue on her skin, making Ona’s knees buckle.
She smiled and made her way to the toilets hoping to find Lucy. She wasn’t sure if it was the drink in her system or Jen flirting with her, that kicked the fire inside her, but she was glad it was burning.
She swung the the toilets doors open, but they were empty, she even called out for Lucy, but no one called back. She didn’t see her in the crowd or on the dance floor. She made her way to the bar, but still no sign, she worried that she might have left. She decided to go to the spot where she saw most of the girls dancing. She spotted Demi, who also spotted her, she pulled her in to the group.
“Ona!” Demi shouted excitedly.
“Demi! Have you seen Lucy? She shouted.
Demi nodded. “She’s looking for you, but she said she’d come back, wait here for her!”
Ona felt her stomach dip, Lucy was looking  for her? She wondered why. Maybe to apologise and tell her she likes her? Or maybe to tell her she had made things weird and that she’s going to get a new partner at work. She hoped it was the first one.
“Okay.” She nodded and smiled at Demi. Demi grabbed her hands and twirled the petite girl into the middle of the group. The girls cheered and whooped once they saw Ona. She laughed and danced with her friends, trying to forget the weird feeling in her stomach.
Like Ona, Lucy had been looking for the shorter brunette. One minute she was watching her with Jen, the next she was gone. Something has stirred inside her, seeing her with Jen gave her a kick up the arse. She wanted to talk to Ona, she needed to tell her how she felt, tell her why she was so hesitant, explain why she pulls away. Frustratingly she had been 10 steps behind Ona when she was looking for her.
After no luck finding the girl, she made her way to the bar to grab a drink. When she got her drink she looked over the short balcony, down on the dance floor. She looked over the sea of people dancing and having fun. And that’s when finally spotted the Spaniard in the middle of their group, she couldn’t stop the smile that took over her face as she watched the younger girl dance. She began to make her to way to her. Ready to talk.
Ona was lost in the music, she swayed her hips, her eyes closed, letting her body do what it did best. She was already drunk at this point, like everyone else around her. She was a natural when it came to moving her body, her hips looked as if they had no bones, she was able to move them like a snake, moving her waist to her own accord.
Thats when she felt the strong familiar body behind her, she could feel the soft touch of breast so she knew it was a woman. She could smell that familiar perfume that Lucy always wore. She felt the butterflies in her stomach flutter, maybe Lucy was feeling braver. She smiled as she backed her hips into the woman, feeling her strong firm body against her own. Strong hands roamed up her body, short nails gently scratched at Ona’s exposed skin. Making the shorter girl gasp at the touch.
Ona was still wrapped up in her drunk ignorant bliss she didn’t want to say anything, she didn’t want to frighten Lucy again, incase she pulled away, incase it got too real. She laced her fingers into the hands on her body bringing them to her hips, letting the girl guide her backwards into her core. Her eyes were still closed, as she felt lips come close to her ear.
“Aye, I knew you was playing hard to get.”
Ona froze, her eyes opening wide. She turned to see Jen looking down at her, a very pleased smirk on her face.
Lucy had to push past the crowd to get to the group of girls, she felt excited to get to Ona, finally feeling brave enough to tell her how she felt. Tell Ona what the she means to her. Even if they hadn’t known each other very long, she was feeling things for her. She had since the day she set eyes on her beautiful face.
But that all came crashing down when she saw Ona dancing with Jen.
She watched as Jen ran her hands all over the petite brunettes body. The feeling that took over Lucy’s body was cold, it felt like her blood had just turned to ice. It made Lucy feel physically sick, the anger that followed was overwhelming. Lucy had gone through many hard times in her life, felt many different emotions of hurt and pain, but this one felt personal, this one hurt in the bottom of her gut, as if Ona put a knife through her heart.
She couldn’t stand there and watch anymore, she disappeared into the crowd.
Ona moved away instantly putting as much space between herself and Jen as she could. “Jen? W-what? I thought y-you was Lu-,”
“What’s wrong hen? Don’t act shy now.” Jen didn’t mean to read the situation wrong, but she pulled Ona against her front, bringing her closer to her face.
“No. I’m sorry. I-I didn’t know…I thought you was someone else.” She forced a laugh, not wanting to make the situation too serious.
Jen looked a little stung but she didn’t take it to heart. “No worries. I’m sorry, I didn’t meant to make you uncomfortable.”
“You didn’t. Sorry. I just didn’t think.”
Jen nodded, she smiled sheepishly at the younger girl. Leaving her with the rest of her friends.
Ona pushed her hair back out of her face, she let out a puff of air. She looked around the room, hoping to see Lucy. But little did she know Lucy had seen her.
The older brunette was in an Uber home, she didn’t say a word to anyone, she was lost in anger, anger for Jen, anger for Ona, well, it was more hurt. Not that she had the right to feel anything against the girl. She wasn’t her girlfriend, she wasn’t seeing her, she had never made it apparent to Ona that she wanted nothing more than the flirting. Ona had literally tried to give her an olive brunch but she didn’t take it. She was simply too late, and that was her own fault.
👮 🚓 👮 Group chat
Lucy - hey girls, sorry had to leave was feeling really sick, home now, thanks for a good night
The brunette didn’t look at her phone again after that. She took a long hot shower, letting herself get lost in her own misery. She was shocked to feel hot tears roll down her face, but she would blame it on the alcohol. She took herself to bed, wishing she’d never gone out tonight.
——————-
When Ona read Lucy’s message she was confused, Lucy didn’t seem sick when she was with her. She was fine until… until Ona put a move on her. Was it her fault? She couldn’t help but think she left because of her, maybe she made her uncomfortable? She texted the brunette straight away but got no reply.
01.02am Ona - hey, are you okay? Call me xx
The next day she still had no reply, but she tried again.
9.18am  Ona - good morning, I hope you’re feeling better. If you need me to get you anything I can xx
But as Lucy was radio silent Ona became worried thinking the worst.
12.46pm - Ona 1 Missed call
13.08pm Lucy - sorry, not been on my phone, feeling better, thanks, will see you Tuesday x
Ona stared at her phone, that dreaded sinking feeling washed over her, she felt her eyes prickle with the heat of her emotions racing through her. The thoughts had swirled around in her head all weekend, she had a weird nervous feeling. She had ruined it.
Tuesday morning rolled around, and Ona nearly called in sick, she didn’t want to face Lucy. She debated to text the older brunette to not worry about picking her up, that she was running late, but she didn’t want to make it weirder than it was. So she waited like she normally did for Lucy, sitting on the wall outside her flat, she worried Lucy might not have come, until she spotted her car pulling up. She had brought them both a coffee, like she did every start and end of the week.
Ona exhaled a deep breath as she got in Lucy’s car. “Good morning. Here’s your coffee.”
“Thank you.” Lucy smiled, though it wasn’t her normal smile, Ona could see that straight away. Come to think of it, her eyes looked red and sore. Had she been crying? Or maybe it was where she was unwell.
“Are you okay Lucy? You see-“ Lucy cut her off.
“I’m fine. Just tired. Did you have a good time the other night?” Lucy kept her face forward.
Ona felt the coldness from her straight away, it made her body ridged. She looked at the older girl, she could feel something was off but she didn’t want to push Lucy, she clearly didn’t want to talk. “Yeah, it was good. But you were missed.”
A soft, but sad smile appeared on Lucy’s lips. “Yeah, wasn’t great timing.”
Ona nodded, they sat mostly in silence as Lucy drove them to work. Ona encouraged the odd conversation but the older brunette didn’t give her much. By lunch even Jordan and Demi noticed the difference in the brunette. They gave the younger brunette questioning looks, but she shrugged, not knowing what to do.
By 4pm Jordan had enough, she watched Lucy go to the kitchen and followed her in. “Oi, what’s going on? What’s wrong?”
Lucy was putting the kettle on. “Nothing. Why?”
Jordan rolled her eyes. “Come off it. There’s clearly something wrong. Is it with you and Ona?”
Lucy’s shoulders dropped. “I saw her dancing with Jen the other night.”
Jordan looked at her friend. “That’s why you left? You wasn’t sick?”
Lucy shook her head. “No. I just lost it Jordan. Jen was all over her, and I know I don’t have any reason to be annoyed. B-but I just…ergh I don’t know.”
Jordan gently grabbed Lucy by the back of her neck. “I’m sorry Luce. But I don’t think it would have been anything serious though. She clearly likes you. She might have just been a bit drunk. You know, the Spanish are very free spirited. It might not mean anything to her.”
The kettle came to a boil. Lucy let out a long sigh, she pinched her nose in frustration.
“Yeah, I’m overreacting, I know, but it did hurt to see it. I don’t know how to be with her. I’m trying to be normal but I can’t.”
Jordan nodded, listening to her.
“I guess I’m just hurt. It’s my own fault. I shouldn’t have let her get so close to me.”
Jordan rolled her eyes. “No. Don’t be stupid. I told you don’t do this. Talk to the girl Lucy. You can’t just go cold turkey on her for no reason. It’s not fair.”
Lucy stared at the mug, she knew Jordan was right, but she also wanted to protect herself. I mean it’s natural. If you like someone and they don’t like you, you have to pull away. Right?
Lucy knew she would have to put a stop to the flirting, the constant texts every evening, the lunch outings. Stop thinking about what it would be like to kiss Ona’s soft looking lips. Stop wondering what it would be like to hold her in the morning while they made each other come again and again, Ona screaming her name.
Yeah, she had to stop. She had to for her own sake. She didn’t want to fall any harder for someone that she had no chance with, Ona clearly didn’t feel the same. Like Jordan said, the Spanish are open people, she probably doesn’t see anything other than just being friends with Lucy. And the realisation hurt.
“Yeah.” The brunette huffed out, she grabbed a second mug and started to make herself and Ona a tea. A ‘sorry’ tea if you will.
“God, you are hard headed. Talk to the girl. Also make me a cup.” Jordan said it as she patted Lucy on the back. The brunette shook her head at her best friend, the smallest of smiles touching her lips.
——————-
After her chat with Jordan, Lucy tried to be normal with Ona, but it was a lot harder than she thought it would be. She was fighting between so many feelings towards the girl. She still liked her, but when she felt those emotions she tried to squash any kind of feelings down, no matter how hard it was. She could tell the younger girl was trying her best to not let it affect her and tried to not make it awkward, but Lucy was as stubborn as they came. She wanted to be with her but sometimes she couldn’t even look at her. It was hard to process her feelings, she didn’t know how to handle herself.
The next month was awful for Ona, Lucy had been completely off with her, she hardly spoke to her, and when she did it was mostly about the case or something to do with work. Ona tried to text Lucy like they normally would but the older brunette hardly replied, and if she did it was a day late or a reply that you couldn’t really respond to. So the texts stopped. Things just wasn’t the same for Lucy and Ona, they slipped into an awkward situation. The older brunette constantly turned down Ona’s lunch invites, she spent most of her lunches at the gym or alone. It got to the point where Ona stopped going to and from work with Lucy, riding the bus instead. That hurt Lucy but she knew it was for the best.
Ona had asked if she was okay, she asked if she had did something to upset her, but Lucy would repeat herself and say nothing was wrong. It was more than frustrating for Ona, Lucy clearly had a problem with her and she didn’t know why.
The second week after the ‘dancing incident’ Ona had been tossing and turning in her sleep, she needed to know if she had made Lucy feel uncomfortable that night. It was when Lucy dropped her off one evening that she plucked the courage to say something.
“Lucy, I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable.” Ona said it with tears threatening to spill over. Lucy looked over at the younger girl confused.
“I really am sorry if I said the wrong thing or touched you in a way you didn’t like. I would never want to make you feel uncomfortable, it’s the absolute last thing I would want. So I am really sorry. I know you’ve been off with me and if this is the reason I sincerely apologies. I will no longer be like this with you, the flirty things I do, I will stop. I’m really sorry.”
Lucy was lost, she didn’t know what the Spaniard was talking about, what did she do to make her uncomfortable? Her heart broke seeing Ona like this, she felt bad, she knew she was being off with the girl, but it was what she needed to do.
“I’m a little lost.” Lucy confessed.
Ona looked at her hard, like she normally did, she searched the girls face. Her voice was shakey. “When we were dancing. I said some inappropriate things to you. I regret it, I shouldn’t have. And I’m sorry.”
It hit Lucy then, Ona thought she was upset because of that, because of how she reacted after their dancing.
“Oh, no that’s not- You didn’t make me feel uncomfortable at all. I just have a lot on, this case is not going the way I thought it would.”
Liar.
Ona slowly nodded. She had done what she could, if Lucy was going to carry on this way, that was on her, even if it did break the you girls heart. She had clearly pushed Lucy too far.
“Okay, good night Lucy.”
Half an hour later Lucy received a text from Ona that she didn’t need to pick her up in the morning.
And that’s how they carried on for a month, basically strangers. ————-
“Do you think he’s been tipped off?” Ona sat next to Lucy in the under cover police car as they sat at the traffic lights. After another long day of not finding the criminal.
They had been informed Slims had been spotted, and for a week they had been patrolling the area. Since the raid he had been laying low, they had tried to get information from his brother Bugz, but he hadn’t spoken in his interrogation interview, choosing to repeatedly say ‘not guilty’. He wasn’t giving any information and no names, he was keeping quiet for his brother, ready to take all the heat for him. Though it didn’t matter, they had enough evidence for that both of them, they just needed to arrest him.
They had called it a day, having been out for 10 hours, it had been frustrating to say the least. They needed to get their hands on him, he was the boss and brains behind the operation, if they got him then they got everyone.
And just like that, their luck turned around.
“Lucy. There he is.” Ona had spotted him standing outside a building. The older brunette spotted him straight away, but he also spotted them, and he didn’t wait around, he began to sprint.
“Shit. We’re going to loose him.”
“No we’re not.” Ona didn’t think twice, she jumped out of the car, her eyes dead set on the man.
“Ona, no!” Lucy shouted. Dread instantly filled her, Ona was already gone. She lifted her walkie talkie. “We have eyes on Slims, we need officers, no noise, no lights. We’ve spotted him on the high street going up Stock Street.”
Alex came in immediately. “Got that loud and clear, we’re 10 minutes away.”
Lucy messily parked the car and grabbed her hand gun. She had already lost sight of Ona and Slims, panic set in. This wasn’t the way they had planned this.
Ona was hot on Slims heels, she may not have been the strongest or tallest person on the squad, but my god she was fast. She chased him down the high street, she could feel her heart racing, she knew she couldn’t let him get away. He ran across the busy high street, not caring about moving cars or people. Cars honked and tyres screeched as he ran infront of them. Ona was a lot more agile, racing around the obstacles without blinking.
Lucy heard the commotion on the street, following the noise as fast she could, she could hear Alex talking over the radio to the other police officers.
Ona chased Slims to a bridge, deep water rushing underneath them. He turned around, they was only 2 meters apart but Ona could see the evil in his eyes, he looked furious. But he also noticed Ona was alone, and no gun in sight.
“If I’d know it was just you I would have taken us somewhere a little more private.” He winked at her, smirking as he moved closer to her. He lunged quickly at Ona, but she was quicker, she grabbed his wrist, twisting his arm. He yelped out in pain and pushed them backwards to the short bridge wall. Ona was leaning dangerously close over the bridge. She used all her strength to push them forward, having to let go of his wrist.
“Oh she’s strong, I like it when she puts up a fight. Always makes it more fun when she’s crying on her back.”
“Just like your brother cried when I put him in his back?” Ona spat back.
He snarled at her. “You fucking bitch.” He pounced at her again, but his face met Ona’s elbow, breaking his nose instantly. He screamed in pain. “You little cunt!”
“Ona!” Lucy shouted at the end of the bridge but she wish she hadn’t. Ona looked over distracted, when she felt a painful grip in her hair, yanking her harshly to her knees.
Lucy pulled her gun out in a speed she didn’t think was possible, she had her finger on the trigger ready to put a bullet in between his eyes.
“Let her go.” Lucy said with gritted teeth. “You’ve got nowhere else to go, don’t make it worse.”
Slim looked around, yanking Ona by her hair, he pulled her back up to her feet, making her yelp in pain. “Hmm crying for it already?” He whispered in her ear.
Ona tried to move, but he only gripped her tighter making her wince. She gritted her teeth, trying not to make any noise, knowing it only gave him some sick satisfaction.
Lucy took slow steps forward, wanting to get a better aim on him. “Just let her go.”
“Come any closer and she’s coming over with me.” He shifted himself and Ona closer to the edge of the bridge, making sure to put Ona in front of him as he eyed the gun pointing at him.
Lucy could feel the colour leave her face, she didn’t have a clear enough shot without a chance of hitting Ona. She looked at the younger girl, her face was in pain, her big brown eyes looking at Lucy, that’s when she saw her mouthing something, but she couldn’t make it out.
Ona rocked her head backwards, cracking Slims nose once more. He pulled her hair even harder, but had moved slightly away from her, giving Lucy just a little more space. She had her aim, her finger pulled the trigger.
Ona flinched, she heard the gun, the sound of the shot striking her ear drums, she looked at Lucy, her face was unreadable. She saw blood on the floor. Her knees felt weak. The grip in her hair had gone. Thats when she heard the cry from Slims, he backed away from her, holding his shoulder where Lucy had buried her bullet.
Police cars drove in at the end of the bridge, Alex and the team jumping out. Slims looked between them and the water beneath, and without thinking he jumped into the rushing water, disappearing into the deep black depths.
Ona looked over the bridge, trying to look for the criminal, closing her eyes in frustration when she couldn’t find him. “No! Merda!”
Lucy ran over to Ona, grabbing her by the arms. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?” She felt relief wash over her.
“I’m fine, I’m fine. But he’s gone. I messed up.” Ona looked at the floor, not able to look at Lucy.
“Do you think I care about that? I’m just glad you’re okay Ona, you scared me. I didn’t kno-“ Lucy was cut off by Alex.
“Bronze we have officers following the river.”
“Good, get the K9 team out aswell.”
“Already on their way.” Alex confirmed.
“Good, thank you Greenwood. Keep me updated.”
Alex nodded, she gave Ona a gentle squeeze on her arm. “Glad you’re okay.” Before she ran back to the team shouting orders.
Ona looked back at Lucy. “I’m sorry I ran off. I know I shouldn’t have. It was stupid off me, I just didn’t want to loose him.”
“Don’t worry Ona, let’s get you home. I’m sure your head should get looked at, you really did a number on his face.” Lucy looked at her proudly, it was the first time she had really smiled at the girl since their friendship became strained.
Ona gave her a small smile. She felt her heart racing but she blamed it on the situation. Not the way Lucy was looking at her.

Learn Me Hard Oh, Learn Me Right by @love-ha-fge
[College AU, 60 000 words, Explicit]
Summary:
“Have you always struggled with math, Steve?” Dr. Potts asked.
The blush crept higher as the same shame that he had felt since the second grade crawled up his spine.
“You’re not the only one.” She assured, handing the papers back to him. “Luckily, you can get one-on-one tutoring at the student center, your tuition covers two sessions per week.”
“Thank you ma’am.” Steve accepted the paper and stood, sliding his backpack over his shoulders. Making his way out of her office he paused when she called his name. “Ma’am?”
“Ask for Bucky Barnes.” Her lips turned up at the name. “He’s one of the math majors that I oversee, haven’t had a student work with him who hasn’t passed.”
No pressure, Steve thought. “I’ll make sure to do that. Thank you Dr. Potts.” “Good luck Steve.”
He didn’t need luck, he needed a miracle.

— ☆ s p i d e r - m a n ☆ —
You wake up because your alarm went off, and you groan, reaching out your arm to find the clock without looking at it. You miss it several times, so you simply locate the wire that is connected to it and unplug it.
You try to sleep again but fail. So you just gave up and decided to deal with this hellhole of a world. Pissy, you'd say, but you're just annoyed that you had to change schools due to your mother finding a new job that would help her financially. But you ignored it and decided to suck it up, because it made your mom happy. You loved seeing her happy, it made you happy.
You dragged yourself out of bed getting ready for your first day. Getting out the shower, you headed for the sink to brush your teeth.
Your school had a strict dress-code, no innapropiate skin showing, must wear school uniform, belts should be tan, black, or white, must wear white, or black shoes, shirt MUST be tucked in if you are not wearing the school's jacket, and no wearing sunglasses indoors...et cetera, et cetera.
The school already started to overwhelm you before you even entered it.
You prepared yourself; girls could choose between skirts and pants; you chose the skirt to make a good impression.
You examined yourself in the mirror, smoothing out the creases. You grabbed a nearby brush and brushed and styled your hair. You walked out of your room with the pungent smell of lemongrass hitting your nose.
It was nostalgia slapping you in the face, so you inhaled it once more for the sentimentality and made your way to the kitchen.
Your mother was on the phone with a colleague when she handed you your lunchbox and a zip lock bag containing a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for breakfast.
You signaled her by with a wave, and headed for the door.
*
Walking towards the school, you stopped. Taking in your surroundings, it seemed as an average school, you shrugged and made your way to the double doors.
Inside, you instantly see lockers, and students surrounding the district. In the corner of your eye you see a lady, hair let loosed below to her shoulders, wearing a woman suit, jacket with the school's symbol encrusted on it.
She introduced herself as Mrs.Deborah. You shook hands with her, she gave you two sticky notes, one advising you of your locker details and the other of your first class.
"Ask for your first teacher, Mr.Scott for your schedule for the day. Tell him I told you to ask. The schedule is permanent for the rest of school year, I look forward into seeing you again, L/N."
She disappeared in the herd of students near the lockers.
"Locker 029?" You walked forward and looked for your number, frantically looking back and forth at the sticky note Mrs.Deborah gave you
You found your locker and entered its code, mind you you weren't aware of the schedule yet. So you kept it empty for the time being.
You closed the locker door just to be taken aghast by a girl, waving hello to you.
"Hi!"
"Hi?"
"Sorry if I scared you, I'm Valerie  but but you can just call me Val"
"You're good I'm Y/N L/N" you seemed fond of her, maybe this school isn't going to be hellish as you anticipated.
She peaked behind you, taking a glimpse of the sticky note, "You have the same class as me!" she smiled widely, "Nice to know! Maybe you can help me?" You inquired.
"Sure! Let's go!" She got ahold of your arm and dragged you down the hall.
*
She made a rhythmical knock on the door.
A male, about 182cm, neat trimmed hair, tan skin and vivid hazel eyes, He introduced himself as Mr.Scott.
"I almost marked you late, Valerie."
Valerie cringed, "Sorry" she said sheepishly.
"This my friend, Y/N! She's new."
"I can tell, hello Y/N honor to meet you, hopefully Valerie isn't giving you a hard time."
"She's been real helpful."
"Good to know, come in so I can introduce you to the classroom."
So they did, "Class, this is Y/N. She's new so I'd expect  you all to treat her with respect, as others have treated you with before, your seat is right by Valerie, Y/N."
You took your seat and Mr.Scott resumed with his assignment.
*
Valerie, your newest "companion," more of a friend, and you were in the lunch hall.
You both took your seats and sat at a table with no one else.
"So how are your first few hours here?"
"I need to venture out more. Learn more about our peers or something. I'm not sure." you shrugged, pi king up one of your strawberries with a fork leisurely.
"I'll help you, here. Do you see that girl over there, brunette, green eyes, fair-skinned?"
"Yea, what about her?"
"Well she's the most popular girl around here. Mainly popular for her looks."
You rolled your eyes and returned to your cup of scattered fruits.
"She sounds like the girl in the story who bullies people" you stated apathetically.
"What about that dude over there? With the short hair." saying with a mouth full of strawberries.
"That's a dunce."
"Oh"
"Yea, a dunce as I say."
"Oh okay."
"He's actually my brother, who's annoying as fuck. His name is Jor'den."
"Y'know I see the resemblance, you sure you two aren't twins?"
"Say another word again and I'll shove my cup down your throat— BUT anyway, I'll act like you didn't say that. Back go introducing."
"That's the one. Jude Bellingham is our football team's golden boy. He is quite popular, thanks in part to his good looks and in part to his incredible intelligence." (lies)
You cast a glance at the male, who looked to be your age, and who definitely took his appearance seriously, as he appeared fresh, hygienic, and tidy.
He met your gaze, you squinted your eyes he seemed enigmatic even though Valerie just told you several thing about him, he severed his gaze from yours and went onto talking with his friends.
You shrugged him off, and went back paying attention to Valerie who's rambling about how to school needs to add more clubs to make it more interesting.
The school bell rang, you and Valerie headed for class.
*
After school you and Valerie decided to go out for coffee, try and get to know each other more since you just met her today.
"Trust me, this coffee place is heavenly."
"Alright, I'll take your word for it" you gave her a smile as you both walked into the shop.
The smells of spices, coffee beans, ginger and cinnamon instantly hit your nose, it was heavenly.
You both sat down, facing each other, ordering from the menu.
"I'll take a regular macchiato, and she'll have the same."
You arched your brows confusion, but just dealt with it.
Minutes later you both received your coffees, you took a sip and it just warm, sweet inviting flavor bursting in your mouth, making you crave more.
You exhaled, feeling satisfied; reeling into the amenity of the coffee shop, insinuating that you should come here more often.
"Good, right?" Valerie inquired, making you once open your eyes again.
"Definitely coming back."
Valerie beamed, "My mom—"
there was a pause.
Glass shattering from the windows, You couldn't move, you aghast as someone rolled off your table onto the ground, wincing in pain and gripping a gun.
Valerie screamed in horror, as a unidentified person wearing a mask, a superhero you'd depict them as swinged into the shops now broken window to straddle the robber down.
The superhero, his attire was..weird.. it had designs of webs all around it, black and and red color and white lenses, in the middle a red arachnid.
He placed the man in cuffs, and apologised for the interruption and that the police will handle it.
The superhero looked at your table, specifically at you; lenses closing slightly, like he was scrutinizing you, he his head to the right slightly, went back to focusing on the robber
He lifted the man and dragged him outside, to the  bunch of cops surrounding the area.
red, white, and blue. red, white, and, blue.
You haven't moved an inch since, Valerie brought you back to your senses.
"W—what the hell just happened?"
"Are you hurt?" She said, your gaze was still focused on the broken window near you both.
You felt hands grip your shoulder, which made. You flinch.
"S–sorry," you said shaking your head.
"I haven't experienced anything like that before."
"It's fine, you're okay, we're okay." She said exclaimed.
"C'mon let's get you home, shall we?" She put on a slight smile trying to make you feel comfortable.
*
"I'm okay, ok?"
"Okay"
"Goodnight, Val"
"Goodnight, Y/N." you closed the door after her.
"Shit" you ran a hand through your face.
You went upstairs, informing your mom of what occurred not to long ago.
You plopped into bed, facing the ceiling, reminiscing of what happened. It wasn't something that you were used to.
did a string come out his hands or was I imagining? You wondered.
This is too much, I need to sleep. You went to the restroom and got changed for tonight.
. .
You woke up in the middle of of night, around 2-3 in the morning. You saw a silhouette by the window. Your eyes were blurry, you just woke up from sleeping, you opened your nearby lamp.
You blinked once again to see if you were just hallucinating but it was still there. As he rubbed your eyes you could see him better, the superhero.
It was him.
He was in a criss-cross postion, staring dead straight at you, it was creepy. You didn't like it at all. You turned off your lamp and flipped to your side burrowing into the sheets, trying to shake of the piercing eyes that were set on you, you hoped it was your last altercation with him.
*
A few months later, you were fully settled in the school. You had a test coming up, and it was major you needed to pass this.
You took your studies seriously, pulling out books, taking notes, and listening to music.
It was peaceful; you frequently multi-tasked, but this encouraged you the most; determined to finish this quiz and pass it, you devoted your after-school hours solely to studying.
You were zoned out of everything around you during lunch, and when you regained consciousness, you saw Jor'den and Valerie arguing about who is the favorite and who is the better sibling.
You smiled, you didn't mind this. It was nice.
. .
It was 4 in the afternoon, sky grey skies, rain drops dribbling against the window, increasing by the minute.
You were a sucker for this, for silence, time for yourself.
With your earphones in, you jotted down notes while frantically flipping through your text book; at first, you heard a faint knock. But when it turned into bangs, you sprang up and tried to figure out what was going on and where it was.
You heard another knock, faint. You set your headphones down and went to the window.
There he was.
In the rain, waiting for some sort of invitation to be let it. So you did, you let him in. How daft of you.
You took some steps backwards so you both were  a few feet away. He entered in and closed the window behind him.
There was an awkward silence between you two.
.
.
.
"Thank you.."
"Thank you for saving me."
"It's what I'm supposed to do isn't?"
He squirmed, "You don't have any spare blankets by any chance?"
"Oh, yea I do. In the closet."
"Thanks" He walked past you going to the closet.
He came out looking comfortable, not so tense up anymore.
"Mind if I stay here for awhile?" He said, sitting on the windowsill seat
"Uh, sure."
"Thanks."
You sat back down, went back to studying and put back on your headphones.
As time passed, in the corner of your eye you could see the spider man with his lenses closed sleeping comfortably with the thick duvet around him.
I invited a random dude in here, crap I'm dead.
You felt sleep creep up behind, and just let it in.
* Next morning, you wake up the spider man is nowhere to be seen, you got up and went to the bathroom, seeing there was a sticky note pressed on your cheek.
'Thank you, for letting me stay. I guess we're both even." –spider-man
You huffed, and continued with the rest of your day.
. .
You met up with Valerie again, at the park.
"I need to tell you something."
"Yea, sure."
"Remember about the incident at the coffee shop?"
"Mhm"
"Remember that spider superhero?"
"Yes, where's all this going?"
"Well, he knocked on my window last night asking if he could stay there for awhile, and I said sure. I don't know why the hell I would say that yet I did."
"Best award for making terrible decisions goes to you!"
You rolled your eyes, "Y'know it wasn't that bad, he wasn't bothering me and just left me alone. But I woke up to a thank you note on my cheek."
"Atleast you enjoyed your night, I was awake due to music blasting through doors"
"Lemme guess.."
"Jor'den" you both said simultaneously, you laughed.
.
.
You took your test and received a 98%; you were elated and told your mother she was proud of you. It was a blissful feeling to feel triumph wash over you.
Later that night you heard a knock once again at your window, you knew who was at your window.
You opened your window and headed towards your bed resuming your series, he entered in and closed the window behind him.
He cautiously walked over to the right side of your bed, not wanting to scare you off.
You felt the side of the bed dip down, in your peripheral vision, you saw a common visitor.
You remained calm, knowing that he had no intention of harming you. So you both watched the series in a lull.
You were completely immersed in the episode until you heard a murmur next to you.
You paused the video, and turn your head around trying to hear what he was saying better.
"I said why do you always do that?"
"Do what?" you inquired
"Let me in."
"Why not. I know not your not going to do anything to me." you stated nonchalantly.
"I–" he huffed in exasperation looked the other way.
You assumed he wasn't going to say anything again so you resumed the episode.
Several minutes passed by, and he paused your video and closed your laptop.
"Let's know each other a bit, okay?"
"Uh, sure" you shrugged
"You first"
"Alright, name is Y/N, 19 years, uh.. favorite color: [color]. Does that suffice for you?"
"Yea, it's an effort."
"Okay. I'm Ju—Spider-man, 19 aswell, favorite color obviously red and black."
"Nice, officially meet you spider-man."
"Nice to meet you too, Y/N." "So do you just go around and save people all day or..?"
"Well that is what a superhero does innit?"
You rolled your eyes,
"You can resume right now, your thingy." He made a circling motion with his index finger pointed at the laptop.
"Okay"
. .
You were both laughing because of a scene in the series, and the other beside you stiffened, tense.
"You okay?"
He got off the bed and hid in a corner, your mom walked in without knocking.
"Why are you up at 2 in the  morning, watching whatever you're watching over there?"
"Uh, sorry I'll close it." You looked to your side and he was nowhere to be seen.
"Thank you. Goodnight my love."
"Night, Mom"
"Hey, you still here?"
silence
You exhaled, and resumed with your episode.
"Hey" someone said besides you
You would have screamed if he hadn't placed his hand on top of your mouth. He made himself known.  He took his hand away.
"You're invisible??"
"Invisibility is one of my quirks, yes."
"You are...something."
"Thank you"
*
His visits became more frequent and longer over time. You both developed to each other's liking.
One night he invited himself in, you weren't aware since you were focused on an assignment that was due the next day. He wandered up the ceiling and lowered himself with his web, so that he was now facing you upside-down.
"Hello to you too." He said, which startled you.
"Jesus, man. You can't pop up like that."
"Not sorry, still waiting for my hello though."
"Hello" you greeted and went back to your assignment.
He lifted himself so he'd be on the ceiling once again.
"Don't you have anything better to do?"
"No"
"No meaning, there's no issue out there."
"Okay, well go occupy yourself with something then."
"Gladly."
He jumped down from the ceiling and removed the earphones from your ears, and grabbed your wrists. Dragging you away from your work.
"C'monnn" you whined trying to pry away from his grip.
"I said occupy yourself with something not someone."
He let go of your wrists, "C'mon dance with me!"
"What music is there?"
"We don't need music to dance, let's just be happy." He began swinging his hips back and forth, humming lyrics to a song, and his feet followed suit.
You smiled, he grabbed you into his embrace and started dancing with you.
You inhaled his scent; he smelled superb. The smell was inexplicable; it effectively invited you to linger in this position for as long as possible.
He twirled you around and brought you into his embrace again.
You both came to a halt for a brief moment, you straightened up, and removed his mask slightly, revealing only his mouth.
Just inches away.
You made the first move, and he graciously reciprocated by deepening the kiss, poking his tongue at your lips, and you permitting him into your mouth, pure escasty; you pulled down his mask, revealing his true identity, Jude Bellingham.
He severed the kiss, looking at you smiling in all his beauty, he is truly attractive.
"Hey"
"You're a sly bastard." you teased.
He went down on you again, craving more of you.
His hands quickly found your thighs and lifted you up against the wall. You moved your hand onto his curls and one grippe his shoulder as his mouth attacked the nook of your neck.
He stopped and placed his forehead with yours,
"Will you be with me? "
Appalled by the question you reiceved you took some seconds contemplating it.
"yes."
He smiled once again and kissed you, slowly, you both enjoying this moment.

Everyone talks about rivals with benefits with Gavi and Jude but I can only think about that trope with Jude and Pedri. Jude being a jerk that he is will only text Pedri when he needs a dick and when Pedri would fuck him he'll tell Jude how much of a slut he really is. Acting like he doesn't want it but is practically begging. Adding bro at the end of a text doesn't change mean you're not gay lol (I'm pretty sure Jude would do that)
tw: nsfw, minors dni
OH MY GOD YOU’RE SO RIGHT?!? Pedri would sneak Jude in his hotel room at Barcelona, and probably kick out his roomie Ferran (lmfao) to fuck Jude there. They don’t really talk about feelings, but hey the sex is freaky and good so there’s that. Pedri would make Jude wear his barca kit when he’s fucking him or something like that…
Pedri being a fuckboy with Jude just does it for me, their sexting would be like this:

pairing: Luka modric/Sergio ramos
wordcount: 2303
summary: tattoo artist Luka x sergio
AN// this is just a rough draft!
It was a slow day. He was told by the lack of appointments slapped across his computer screen.
Actually, most days were slow. Luka's Tattoo Parlor wasn't exactly booming with business. Sure, he had his appointments with regulars which, fortunately, paid his bills.
However, it just made him get by. So, Luka ended up taking down a printed sheet of paper on his door that stated he only takes via appointment. He simply didn't have the funds to be picky about his customers.
Though, a few hours into his morning he regrets taking that paper down.
Luka is sitting on a large stool, and Marcelo is late which is making Luka's leg bounce. Marcelo was notorious for being late to everything, including work. Which pisses Luka off, he loves his best friend, don't get him wrong.
Marcelo just had a sixth sense that made him know what buttons to push. Luka sighed into his hand, he barely got any sleep last night, too busy working on some sketches some clients had asked him to draw up.
Luka doesn't want to be working at the counter, he's too tired to deal with anyone. But his colleague, soon-to-be former colleague is taking his sweet time in getting in that glass door.
He glances up at the clock on the wall to his right, 10:36. He opened the shop over half an hour ago, where is he?
The only sound was Luka's leg bouncing up and down and the impatient tapping against the wooden desk. He really should put some music on, for his sanity, he also doesn't want to listen to whatever Marcelo deems fit for today.
He drags himself to his sound system, which was Spotify. Luka leaned heavily on his hand as he scrolled absentmindedly till he clicked a random playlist and put Bluetooth on.
He thanks whoever came up with that.
Soon enough low music comes through the speakers around the shop. Luka closes the tab and is faced with his dull schedule for today.
The Tattoo Parlor wasn't exactly a bustling hotspot, so Luka was used to the occasional quiet day, but he was struggling to stay awake this morning.
As Luka closed the tab and took in his dull schedule for that day, he couldn't help but feel a sense of gloom start to settle around him. His business wasn't exactly flourishing, and it didn't look like he would have much to keep him busy throughout the day. He settled back into his seat and let out a tired sigh.
The calmness of the morning was suddenly interrupted by a loud bang on the shop's doors. Luka jumped in his seat and then looked up to see Marcelo entering the shop, a half-eaten croissant in one hand and a phone in the other.
"Sorry I'm late Lukita, traffic was a nightmare," Marcelo said, taking a seat in the chair nearest the entrance while chewing on his croissant.
"Yeah, sure," Luka replied, a hint of annoyance in his voice. "Traffic" was Marcelo's go-to excuse for everything.
Marcelo glanced up from his croissant to see Luka giving him a death stare. He laughed heartily. "Relax. I'm just messing with ya, chill." Marcelo said, waving off Luka's annoyance.
Luka ignored Marcelo and instead walked back to his counter with heavy steps. As if he was punishing Marcelo for being late by not talking to him. Marcelo just laughed to himself while taking the last bite of his croissant, all while looking up at the clock, which was now 10:43.
"So," Marcelo began, "anything planned for today?"
Marcelo glanced up from his croissant to see Luka giving him a death stare. He laughed heartily. "Relax. I'm just messing wit' ya, chill." Marcelo said, waving off Luka's annoyance.
"A few appointments, thankfully," Luka said.
Marcelo nodded in agreement before his eyes suddenly widened. "Wait a second," He said, "Did I forget about something?"
"Forgot about something?" Luka scoffed, annoyed.
"Did I have an appointment I completely forgot about?" Marcelo asked, frantically. His phone was still in his hand as he checked his calendar. "C'mon c'mon, come on!" Marcelo muttered to himself.
"Hey, calm down," Luka said, "You're getting all worried over nothing."
"Dude, I am not worried over nothing, you know how much I hate missing appointments. I have this client coming in an hour and I barely have enough time to set up, much less prep for an entire tattoo!" Marcelo's tone became panicked, his fingers moving quickly as he searched through his phone. Luka sighed, he wasn't getting through to Marcelo at all.
"Marce, chill, here." Luka walked over to Marcelo and started searching through his calendar on his phone.
"Oh," Luka muttered, his eyes widening. "Ok, you might actually have a problem."
"Yeah, I already figured that out, Luka. thanks." Marcelo said, sarcastically.
"You have an appointment with Sergio Ramos, and he's gonna be here in 10 minutes," Luka said.
"Sergio Ramos?" Marcelo asked, sounding confused.
"Who the bloody hell is Sergio Ramos?"
"Dude, how do you not know who Sergio Ramos is? He's a pretty famous footballer, he plays for Real Madrid or something. some big club, anyway. " Luka said, sounding puzzled, half shrugging.
"The football guy?" Marcelo asked, sounding even more confused. "Why the hell is he coming here to get a tattoo?"
"I don't know. But he's coming here." Luka said, a scoff coming out his mouth. sounding slightly annoyed. He started pacing around the studio, deep in thought.
"Ok, Ok, look. I'm sure it'll all be fine. There's gotta be a reason he wants a tattoo from us. We'll just talk to him, and see what's up. If he doesn't want a tattoo, we'll send him away, simple as that."
"Yeah, I guess so," Marcelo replied, his tone doubtful.
"But that's assuming he even shows up." Luka shrugged. "No offence, but he's a pretty famous guy, he could be a no-show and we won't have to worry."
"Exactly! Now, come on. We still have a little time, let's set everything up and see what happens."
Marcelo shrugged, not quite optimistic that Sergio Ramos would actually show up. They both got to work preparing for Sergio's appointment and waited. And waited. And waited.
When the appointment time came and went with no sign of Sergio Ramos, Luka and Marcelo looked at each other and laughed. "Told you he wasn't gonna show up," Marcelo said, smugly.
"You told me nothing, actually." Luka points an accusatory finger at Marcelo, who dismisses him with a hand. Marcelo seems to visibly relax, he walks off deeper into the shop, probably to prep for the next appointment.
After the shop was all cleaned up and ready for the next appointment, Luka took a seat and started drawing in his notebook. He was in the middle of finishing off a drawing of his latest tattoo idea when the bell above the door suddenly rang, signalling that a customer had finally arrived.
"Oh look who finally took long enough," Luka said with a smirk, glancing up from his sketchbook and towards the entrance.
"Oh boy," Luka said under his breath as he recognized Sergio Ramos enter his shop.
Sergio smiled and gave Luka and Marcelo a wave as he walked up to the counter. "Sorry I'm late, I got stuck in a bit of traffic."
Marcelo and Luka shared a look before looking back to Sergio, both of them confused.
"That's one hell of a traffic jam," Marcelo said, his tone dry. Sergio laughed and shrugged as he leaned over the counter to get a closer look at what Luka was drawing.
"I've heard stories," Luka says quietly. He raises his eyebrows as he gives a hard glance to Marcelo, who sheepishly smiles at him.
"Hey, eyes off," Luka warned, covering his sketchbook with his hand. "This is private." He does not like this guy so far.
Sergio laughed and put his hands up in defence. "No worries, I was just curious." He said. "I'm Sergio Ramos by the way, I know I'm a bit late but I'm here to get a tattoo. Thought I was in the wrong shop, seeing you have none." Sergio points at Luka, who tries his best to hide a scowl but it shows.
Sergio turned to Marcelo and flashed a small smile. "It's a pleasure to meet you." Marcelo waved, still slightly confused by the entire situation.
"Right, let me look at our schedule," Luka said, pulling up the calendar on his computer.
To his surprise, Sergio Ramos' appointment was on the calendar and it was 2 hours ago. "Huh," Luka muttered under his breath, his tone perplexed yet annoyed. "Yeah, your appointment was a while ago but I guess I could squeeze you in now."
Sergio gives a small nod before leaning over the counter, his body language seemingly relaxed.
"Do you know exactly what you want to get tattooed?" Luka asked, trying to ignore the weird situation he found himself in.
Sergio nodded and turned around, pointing at the small of his back. "I wanted to get something like this. A small rose on the back, it doesn't have to be so simple though, you can do whatever you want." Sergio said, now he seems to be interested in the blonde before him.
"Well, that's not up to me to decide." Luka clicks out of his schedule, choosing to look somewhere other than where Ramos is. "You're Marcelo's appointment, he's just over there" Luka moves a bit on his stool to show Sergio who Marcelo is.
"Of course, of course!" Sergio smiled, looking over at Marcelo. "Nice to meet you."
"You too," Marcelo replied, his tone sincere. "I wasn't really expecting this today."
"I never do things the easy way, so I'm not surprised." Sergio chuckled. "What do you do usually?"
"I'm a tattoo artist," Marcelo said. "I've only been working here for about a month or two, but It's been going well so far. I've been tattooing for years though, my portfolios are over there if you'd like to check them out. What about you?"
"I'm a footballer," Sergio said, his tone nonchalant.
"A footballer?" Marcelo said, nervously. He found that out a few minutes ago, with the help of Luka.
"I've actually been following along with some leagues, been super cool. That's cool. You're cool, uhm, you know. Must be cool. "
Sergio smiled, he was used to this reaction. "Yeah, it's pretty cool. How about you, do you play any football?"
"Not professionally, no," Marcelo said. "I used to play a bit in university, but I don't think that counts."
"Hermano, it still counts." Sergio laughed.
"Yeah, it was pretty fun," Marcelo said, looking back at Luka who was working and pretending not to listen.
Sergio had noticed and looked over. "Is he alright?" He asked Marcelo.
Marcelo nodded. "Yeah, he just gets grumpy when he's not tattooing, that's all."
"Ah, gotcha. I like your tattoos by the way." Sergio said, pointing at Marcelo's left forearm.
Marcelo looked down, his forearm was covered in various tattoos, some of which he had done himself. "Thanks," Marcelo said, sounding sincere
Sergio glanced over at Luka, who was still working on his sketchbook. Sergio looked like he was waiting for the right time to ask him something.
"So, um, I have a proposal for you." Sergio began, his tone slightly awkward.
Luka looked up, his attention now caught by the football player. "Go ahead." He said
Sergio took a deep breath. "Um, I'd like to get a tattoo from you." The footballer said, his tone hopeful.
"You want me to tattoo you?" Luka asked, his tone more confused than anything else.
"Yes," Sergio said, sounding equally confused. "Why is that so confusing?"
"You're not my client," Luka said, a bit harshly. "You're his. " gesturing at Marcelo, who still stood watching the conversation from his set-up.
"But the thing is..." Sergio said, seemingly reluctant. "I like what you drew." He sounded a bit embarrassed.
Luka looked up from his notebook, suddenly intrigued. "What did I draw? "
Sergio pointed at the doodle of the heart flower Luka was finishing off. "Your tattoo idea."
"Oh, right," Luka said. His tone turned hesitant. "Well, to be honest with you, I... I wasn't planning on doing anything with this design. It was just something I was working on for fun."
"Well, your fun tattoo idea is great," Sergio said, a smile spreading across his face. "I have a special occasion coming up and I was hoping you could help me celebrate it with a tattoo."
"Oh, um, that's very flattering, but... " Luka said, his tone awkward.
"Please," Sergio said, almost pleading. "I really like your design. I'm a big fan of flowers and this tattoo would mean a lot to me. For something so special, why don't I pay you extra? "
Both Marcelo and Luka like the idea of extra money. Now, Marcelo, behind Sergio is very dramatically begging Luka to take this on, his hands prayed together.
"Alright." Luka finally shrugged, knowing there was no point in fighting it. "I don't know what I can design in that short of a time frame, but I'll make it work."
Sergio smiled and gave Luka a quick hug. "Thank you."
Luka returned to his sketchbook, beginning to work out ideas in his head. Marcelo looked at him like his friend was a hero because as far as he's concerned, Luka was.

Note
the talons vs jackals rivalry really reminds me of high school football rivalry, since there’s usually school mascots involved lol
i can totally imagine the cringy mascot catchphrases now:
“fly high with the talons!”
or
“jackals, bare your fangs!”
lmao
Oh no. Don't do this to me. First Merikh in the business alternate universe and now this.
Now I'm just thinking about the MC and Sutek going to rival schools in an absolutely insane football town.
Someone on the Jackal's team hospitalizes one of the Talon's star players in a tackle gone wrong, further straining relations between the two school and dividing the town.
-Longing looks under friday night lights
-Seeing each other in the stands at game day in opposite colors
-Secret meetings because neither of your friend groups can know
High School Musical meets Romeo and Juliet meets Honor Amongst Thieves
So much dumb football. Such low stakes.

Bronze Is Better Then Gold
part 2 here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary - Ona has transferred to a new police force, she meets her partner, Lucy Bronze. The girls hit it off right away, flirting at every chance they can get. But will Lucy’s past get in the way?
This is an AU story, but its got most of the girls from the lionesses featuring. People seem to like it so thought you guys might too.
Warnings - some suggestive scenes (lets keep it 18 and above) lots of angst, gun violence, smut to come in last chapter (chapter 4)
Ona shivered from the crisp cold morning air. It had just hit the start of October and the signs of autumn were already showing. Even after nearly five years of living in the UK the Spaniard still hadn’t got used to the cold English weather.
She drank the last sip of her coffee, taking in the grey building in front of her. Her new place of work.
She watched as a couple of uniformed police officers walked into the building, talking amongst themselves. She took in a deep breath, trying her best to shake off the first day nerves.
It was her first day at the new firm. She had been personally scouted from the Chief Constable to have a chat. When asked if she wanted to transfer it was an easy yes for Ona. The building was closer to home, it was a day shorter in the working week with Mondays off. And the Chief Constable was well known to be excellent at her job. Her team was one of the best in the city of London. She was definitely someone Ona wanted to be working under.
She dashed her empty coffee cup in a nearby bin and made her way to the buildings reception, where she was greeted by a very overly happy receptionist. Not something that she was used to back in her old firm or in London for that matter.
“Hello, how can I help you today?” The blonde smiled brightly up at Ona.
Ona cleared her throat. “Good morning, I’m Ona Battle, it’s my first day today, I was told to go to reception.”
“Ohh lovely! Welcome! I have all the bits you’ll need.”
Ona smiled at the bubbly blonde. She glanced at her name tag, Esme Morgan.
The blonde grabbed a folder that had lots of paper work inside, she handed it over to Ona.
“Right here’s all the bits you’ll need from me, I’ll take you over to Sarina, the ‘important’ part of the building. I’m Esme by the way. Follow me.”
The blonde was taller than Ona expected her to be, but that wasn’t hard in Ona’s experience, most people in the room were always taller than the Spaniard, unless they were under the age of ten.
“You’ve met Sarina right?” The blonde smiled.
Esme reminded Ona of an excited puppy in the nicest possible way, the girl was full of beans.
“Ahh yes, on video call. She’s really nice.”
“Oh yeah she is, she’s like a mum away from your own mum. Well that’s how I see her.”
Ona smiled, she liked this girl, she wasn’t like your usual Brit, she was genuinely cheery. Not fake cheery, but someone who actually seemed happy.
They walked down a long green corridor, Ona looked over at the pictures on the wall of police officers from across the years, even going back as far as the 18th century.
“We’ve heard such good things about you. I know Sarinas really happy that you joined us.”
“Yeah, I’ve heard good things about this branch. I could never have said no.”
Esme smiled, she had a happy bounce to her as she walked, her cheerful character was almost infectious.
“Ahh that’s great. I hope you like it here, we’ve got a lovely bunch on the team. Do you know who your partner is?”
“Ahh that’s good to hear. Erm I’m going to be working with Gold.”
“Gold? Who’s Gold? I didn’t know we had a gold.” Esme’s face scrunched in confusion.
Ona rattled her brain for the right translation, she was sure it was gold, or was it?
“Oh do you mean Bronze?”
Ona laughed, just slightly embarrassed of her mix up.
“Ahh yes, sorry I haven’t got my elements down.”
Esme smiled widely, Ona couldn’t help but smile back.
“Oh yeah, neither have I, don’t worry about it.” She laughed to herself, turning a corner with Ona following.
“Yeah Bronze is a lovely girl. She’s such a hard worker, one of the hardest workers on the team actually. You’re lucky to have her as your partner.”
Ona smiled, she already liked the sound of her new partner, but she had to try and forget ‘Gold’ and remember Bronze.
But little did Ona know that wouldn’t be hard.
They stopped outside a room with a plaque ingrained with ‘S Weigman’ on the door. Esme knocked a cheery tune.
In a heartbeat she heard a women’s voice coming from inside.
“Come in Esme.”
Esme opened the door motioning for Ona to enter.
“Right, here we are, this is where I leave you. Sarina will take it from here. Good luck today and if you need anything you know where to find me.”
“Thank you Esme, it was lovely to meet you.”
Esme nodded, a happy smile still sitting on her face.
“Oh by the way, Claudia called, she’s had to cancel the 10 o’clock meeting.”
Sarina nodded, smiling fondly at the blonde, it was as if she was looking at a young child.
“Thank you Esme, and thank you for bringing Ona.”
The bubbly blonde nodded and bounced off, waving at everyone she passed in the corridor. Ona couldn’t help but smile again at the brightness that Esme left on her mood.
“Ona! Please come in. It’s so good to finally meet you in person, I can’t tell you how happy I am that you’ve joined us. Come take a seat. Do you want a tea or coffee, a cold drink?”
Ona took a seat in front of Sarinas desk.
“Oh no, I’m okay, I just had a coffee. Thank you.”
Sarina nodded, smiling at the young girl in front of her.
“Okay, well firstly welcome. I know I’ve said it already but I’m so excited to have you on the team. Emma told me how much of a hard worker you are, you’ve accomplished so much at such a young age. It’s incredible. Emma did not let you go easy! But I’m glad you were happy to move to us.”
Ona smiled at her feet, feeling slightly shy at the compliments.
“Ahh thank you. It’s just part of the role, I really enjoy my job. And yes the move felt right, I had been there since I moved to London, so it was nice for a change. I’ve also heard a lot about you and your team. You’re well known how efficient your squad run.”
Sarina smiled and nodded, taking in the girl in front of her.
“So where are you from? That’s not a British accent I can hear.”
Ona laughed. “I’m from Spain, Catalonia. I’ve been in the UK nearly five years.”
“I see, so why police here and not Spain? What made you move here?”
Ona played with her fingers. “I was in the police force back in Spain, I joined when I was 18 but I wanted a change. I love my city but things didn’t work out how I wanted. I’ve always loved the UK and the people. There’s something special about it.”
Sarina nodded again, smiling warmly at the younger girl.
“I can understand, I’m originally from the Netherlands. I came here to study and never left. I then found my now husband and have lived here ever since.”
Ona nodded, smiling at the women. “The UK spoke to both of us.”
Sarina hummed in agreement. “It did indeed. Do you ever go back home much?”
Ona played with her fingers again, feeling a little uncomfortable. She kept her eyes casted down.
“Erm, not really. I went back once but that’s all.”
Sarina noticed the change in the younger women. She didn’t want to push so she changed the subject.
“Well, these next couple of days I just want you to get to know the team and the building and how we work here. I don’t want to throw you right in the deep end, even though I know you can handle it. I like my staff to feel comfortable first. Bronze and the team will be going on a raid next week. You’ll be joining them.”
Ona nodded. “Okay, that sounds good. I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone and getting stuck in.” She smiled at the older women.
“And I want you to know I am always here if you need to talk about anything, from work, to general life. We have our therapist on site that we ask you to at least see once every two weeks but you can go as much as you want.
Ona now understood what Esme meant about Sarina being a mother figure, she could sense a genuine care from the older women but also a firmness to her.
The Spaniard nodded and smiled. “Thank you.”
“Great, I’ll take you on a tour of the building and you can meet the team and meet your partner.”
Sarina showed Ona around the building, stopping off at certain floors that Ona would need in the future.
They then walked into the main office, where it looked like most of the staff worked. Ona suddenly felt a little nervous, she was fine with meeting new people, she was a social butterfly really, but it was always daunting meeting your new work colleagues.
“Nobbs, Stokes, come and meet Ona Battle, it’s her first day and I want you to make sure she settles in.”
Two short women smiled brightly at Ona, both walking towards her.
“Hello, I’m Jordan or Nobbs. It’s nice to meet you.” She reached her hand out to shake Ona’s.
“Hello Jordan, lovely to meet you.”
“I’m Demi or Stokes. Really happy to have you on the team.” The slightly taller woman also holding her hand out for Ona.
Ona smiled, shaking Demis hand.
“Hello Demi. Also lovely to meet you.”
“You’ll be working a lot with DC Nobbs and DC Stokes. They’re some of the best Detective Constables I’ve ever worked with.”
Serina patted Demi on the back. Looking at the girls like a proud mum.
“Yeah, yeah. You say that about everyone.” Demi rolled her eyes, joking with her superior.
“No? Do I? Oh just the good ones then.” Sarina winked at the Spaniard. Causing the group to laugh.
Ona once again could see the pride this woman had for her team, it was refreshing to see. It definitely wasn’t something she was used to in her old firm.
Demi then spoke. “We’ve heard only good things about you Ona.”
A slight tint of pink rushed to Ona’s cheeks.
“I’m scared I’ve got to live up to this reputation now.”
All four of the women laughed.
“Don’t worry. You have Bronze as a partner, she’ll make sure you live up to it.” A new voice entered the chat.
Ona turned around to face a women even taller then Esme. A cup of coffee in hand.
“Don’t try and scare her Scott.” Jordan scolded the older women.
The taller women laughed at her own joke. She stuck her hand out for Ona to take.
“I’m only joking. I’m Scott, it’s good to have you on the team.”
Ona noticed her thick Northern accent, she knew she’d have to listen extra hard when speaking with the tall woman.
“Thank you, it’s great to meet you.” Ona smiled.
“Ona, this is our SFC Jill Scott, one of the best I’ve ever worked with.”
“That’s true.” Jill took a sip of her coffee looking pleased with herself, while the other two girls rolled their eyes at the banter.
“Where is Bronze?” Sarina looked around the room.
“Gym.” In unison all three of the girls replied.
Ona quirked an eye brow at the response
“That girl! I told her to be here to meet Ona.”
“She probably wanted her muscles to look extra big to show off.” Jordan laughed.
“Yeah, like she needs them any bigger.” Jill took another sip of her coffee.
“Jealousy is a shit trait to have Scott.”
Another voice entered the conversation.
“Ahh Luce, you know I’m only joking. I am indeed just jealous.” Jill laughed.
Ona turned around wanting to give the new voice a face.
Wow.
Ona nearly forgot how to breathe, the woman standing in front of her was stunning. She took in the girl in front of her, she had almond shaped eyes, filled with a beautiful intense shade of green. Like Ona she had a face covered in freckles but a lot less dark and less condensed.
Her face was strong and soft at the same time, her jawline was perfectly defined, yet her other features were soft and feminine, she was gorgeous.
Her face was flushed, a thin layer of sweat glistening over her muscular arms and neck. Her dark hair was wet and scraped back, small curls escaping the messy bun, clearly wet from the gym that the girls had mentioned.
Ona was lost for words, the girl was beautiful.
“Ona this is CI Bronze, she’s going to be there for whatever you need, all of the girls will be, but Bronze is your go to girl.”
Lucy couldn’t hold back the smile that appeared on her face, Ona was breathtaking. It was her eyes that Lucy noticed first, she had wide, soft doe eyes, innocent looking eyes. A beautiful chocolate brown surrounded her iris, making her face warm and inviting.
Dark freckles covered her face, another feature Lucy couldn’t help but admire. Her skin was slightly tanned but not bronze, more of a milk colour. Lucy imagined that was because of the English weather.
It was when Ona smiled that Lucy felt her stomach flutter. She thought her face was beautiful and soft before, but her smile made her perfect. She noticed how chiseled her jawline was when she smiled, how perfectly it fit with her features. The girl was utterly beautiful.
Lucy held out her hand for Ona’s to shake.
Ona had to kick her brain into gear to move, she took Lucy’s hand, instantly loving how soft her skin was against hers.
“It’s great to have you on the team Ona, and like Sarina said, I’m here for whatever you need.”
“Thank you, I can’t wait to work with you.”
They held hands for a second longer than the usual handshake would normally last.
The interaction wasn’t missed by the other women, Jordan and Demi eyed up the the older brunette, smiling between each other as Lucy and Ona kept eye contact for a second too long.
“Okay, well. I’ll let Lucy take care of you from here, if you need anything let the girls know, or if you need anything from me you know where I am.”
The older lady smiled warmly at Ona, leaving her with her new co-workers.
“Let me show you your desk, it’s next to mine.”
“Great.” Ona followed.
Lucy walked towards a row of desks with computers and files of paper work neatly piled on each space. But there was one desk with only a computer that Ona assumed was hers.
“This is you. I apologise in advance my desk can get a little messy now and again.”
“Ahh that doesn’t bother me.” Ona couldn’t keep the smile off her face.
“I’ll try keep and keep it tidy though.”
“She won’t Ona, she’s lying.” Jordan poked her head over Lucy’s computer. Hers and Demis desk both opposite their own.
“Shut it Nobbs,”
Jordan smiled cheekily at the older brunette.
“Trust me Ona, give it a week.” Jordan smiled.
Ona laughed at the banter between the girls, she wondered if her and Lucy would ever get as close.
“Ignore her. I’m going to quickly head for the showers. I know you’ve got all that paper work to go through, so you can just chill here. Kitchen is just over there, help yourself to a drink. Once I’m back I’ll go through some bits with you.” Lucy smiled at the younger girl.
“Sure, sounds good. Enjoy your shower.” Ona had to stop herself from thinking too hard about Lucy in the shower. She looked around the room, noticing other people at their desks working, she was going to have to try and remember a lot of names today.
She started to read through her paper work, it was mostly rules and work conducts she had to read and agree to.
Eight pages in to her paper work she felt Lucy hover over her.
“God I hate all of this, it’s so boring, but I get it, it has to be done.” Lucy rolled her eyes.
Ona smiled, she agreed but she wasn’t going to make it obvious. “Ahh yeah, I know. Nearly done though.”
Lucy nodded. “Do you fancy a tea or coffee? I’m going to make one.”
“Coffee please.” - “Tea for me.” Jordan and Demi loudly put their order in.
Lucy rolled her eyes. “I wasn’t asking you!”
“Don’t be like that, you’re going anyways.” Demi shouted back.
“Fine. Ona?” Lucy started to get up.
“Erm, tea please? With two sugars please.” Ona smiled.
Lucy had to hold herself back from saying the ‘you’re sweet enough’ line.
“No problem.” Lucy made her way to the kitchen.
Ona smiled as she read on with her paper work.
Ona drank her tea that Lucy made, listening to the brunette talk about what investigations the team was working on.
“But don’t stress too much, I’ll have you sitting in the catch up on Friday, so you can get an idea. I’ll send over some bits so you can read them in your own time. I know the first day can be a lot.”
If Ona was honest she was more than grateful for the slow introduction to the work. She was finding it hard to concentrate with Lucy. She’d never been one for distractions with work, but she was having to listen extra carefully to Lucy, instead of watching her lips, wondering what they would feel like against her own.
Ona nodded. “Yeah that’s great. I’ll go over that tonight, thank you Lucy.”
“Great. It’s nearly lunch, Sarina has insisted we go for lunch together to get to know each other. Partners and all that. But don’t feel like you hav-.”
“Yes!” Ona internally winced at her own eagerness
Lucy chuckled.
“I mean yeah, that’s sounds great. It’s a good idea.”
“Cool, do you like pizza?”
“I love pizza.”
“Oi, don’t try and par us off, we was CC’d on that email too.” Jordan’s head pocked over the computer.
Lucy rolled her eyes once again at her friend.
——————-
The conversation between the girls came naturally, they spoke about why they got into the police force, and some of their hardest cases.
Ona explained that she fell in love with London, and how she always wanted to be a police officer when she was young. She kept some bits brief, not wanting to get into certain bits of her life.
She noticed those greens eyes watching her throughout the meal, every time she caught her, the older brunette would dart her eyes to something or someone else, but she was caught every time.
*********
By the end of the day Ona was tired, she’d already not slept great the night before down to nerves. She had met everyone else in the office after lunch, so by five she was yawning.
Lucy was on her computer sending Ona some notes to read.
“Right, don’t stress about reading this tonight. It’s been a long day.”
“But don’t be tired on Friday, we’re going to The Rose and Crown. And it’s the rules, you have to come.” Jill had come up behind Ona.
“Well it doesn’t sound like I have a choice, you can buy my first drink.” Ona smiled, getting used to the girls banter.
All the girls laughed, Jill put her hand on Ona shoulder giving her a squeeze.
“I like this one.”
Lucy was watching Ona, a bright smile on her face, Ona felt her heart beat just a little faster.
——————-
By day two Ona was obsessed with Lucy’s laugh, the girl had a serious nature to her, but once Ona made her laugh she couldn’t stop. She wanted to hear that beautiful sound whenever she could. It was a good thing Lucy actually seemed to find her funny. Ona felt a rush of excitement go through her, even at a glimpse of Lucy’s beautiful smile, the girl did have a beautiful smile.
By day three Lucy had to physically stop herself from staring at Ona. The younger girl would be doing the simplest of tasks and Lucy seemed to find it fascinating. She watched the Spaniard making them tea in the kitchen, talking and laughing with others in the office. Lucy maybe even getting a little jealous when someone made the shorter girl laugh hard.
Ona may have noticed the eyes on her and was loving every second of it. Making sure to laugh a little harder at something someone would say.
By day end of day there neither girl could keep the other out of their head. Lucy thought about Ona as she made dinner at home, wondering if Ona would like her cooking. Meanwhile Ona got comfy on her sofa to watch a film, wondering what it would be like to have Lucy cozied up next to her.
By Friday morning, Ona thought about Lucy as she ate her porridge, wondering what her morning routine looked like. As Lucy finished her workout in the gym she wondered if Ona was a morning person. She wondered what it would be like to wake up next to a groggy Ona. The thought made her body heat up.
———————
“We have eyes on Harvey Smith aka ‘Bugz’ and Frank Smith aka ‘Slims’. We know the brothers are highly dangerous to the public. We believe Slims is the brains behind most of the drug operations and Bugz is mostly muscles for Slims. On Wednesday at seven hundred hours, our teams will raid the location that we suspect they will be. We’ll have Scott and her team ready with arms. Carter will have the K9s unit, Bright and Greenwood will have their teams ready on site.”
Lucy looked over at her team.
“Any questions?”
Everyone shook their heads, and Ona wasn’t surprised. Lucy was clear with her instructions, she’d gone through many different stages of the plan. Ona understood why she was in this role.
“If you have any please come to me.”
Lucy looked her watch. “It’s 4.45 and Friday let’s call it a day.”
The room hummed in agreement, light chatter broke out as people started to leave the room.
Ona went to her desk to grab her bag and jacket, she felt a pair of hands on her shoulders.
“Ready for the pub?”
Lucy’s voice filtered into her ears, Ona nearly shivered at how close the brunette was.
“Sii. I’m ready.”
“Great. Nobbs, Stokes, Scott, let’s go.”
—————-
Most of the staff from the office were at the pub, clearly a favourite of theirs. They made their way upstairs to a booth next to a fire place, Ona instantly felt the warmth from the fire kissing her cheeks.
“Right, I’ll get first round who wants what?” Lucy stayed standing.
The girls gave in their orders. Before Ona could offer to help with the drinks and also just have an excuse to be with Lucy, Jill got in there first.
“Right come on then, I’ll help ya.”
At the bar Lucy gave in the orders. She knew Jill wanted to say something as the Geordie had never offered to help anyone with the drinks since working with her.
“Go on then, what do you have to say?” Lucy looked hard at the taller women.
Jill smiled smugly. “Nothing gets past you.”
Lucy hummed.
“Just noticed you’ve been a lot more chirpier around the office. A lot more happy. Started since our new Detective Inspector started.”
Lucy felt the knot in her stomach, was she that obvious? Did Ona notice? Who else noticed? Either way Lucy wasn’t going to fess up.
“You chat shit Scott.”
Jill laughed loudly.
“You know I don’t. Come on it’s okay, no harm in it. Just happy to see you happy to be honest. It’s been a while since I’ve seen that smile on your face.”
Lucy knew what Jill really meant when she said that. She could tell the older women said it with her own hint of sadness to her voice. If she was being honest, it was the first time this year she had felt a little happier. And it was all because of the short Spanish girl sitting upstairs.
“So Ona are you seeing anyone at the moment?” Jordan asked.
“No, I’m not seeing anyone. I’m a single, how do you say? Dingle?”
The girls laughed. “Pringle, a single Pringle.” Demi corrected.
Ona laughed. “Ahh that’s it. Single Pringle. What about you guys?”
“Demi here’s engaged, with a baby.” Jordan smiled.
“Ahh that’s lovely.” Ona smiled.
“And Jordan has a little thing going on with a blonde in the HR team.”
“Oi, shut up.” Jordan looked panicked.
“Oh come on Jordan, everyone knows. You guys really aren’t subtle.” Demi laughed at her friend.
“Who’s not subtle?” Lucy placed the tray full of drinks on the table, sceptically looking at her friends.
“Just Jordan and Leah.”
Lucy let out a breath she didn’t realise she was holding.
“Oh yeah, you guys aren’t subtle.”
“You can talk.” Jordan muttered.
Ona didn’t miss the daggers Lucy shot at Jordan.
The evening was full of laughter, Ona couldn’t help but feel a little sense of relief that these were her colleagues. They instantly made her feel like she was part of the team, it felt like she had been there longer than four days, it felt like she’d known these girls in another lifetime.
The pub bell rang.
“Last orders!” A bar girl shouted.
“One more for the road?” Lucy looked around the table.
“Not me, I’m at a coffee tour tomorrow.” Jill sipped on her pint.
“Yeah me too. I’m a plus one for a 2 year olds birthday party tomorrow.” Demi slumped in her seat.
“Yeah I’ve got to head off. I’m meeting a friend tomorrow.” Jordan cleared her throat.
“Yeah ‘friend’.” Demi laughed.
“I’ll stay for another.” Ona looked at Lucy.
Lucy had to hold back the excitement that bubbled up in her chest. Herself and Ona hadn’t really gotten any one on one time since the girl joined the team.
“Finally! Someone who isn’t a lightweight. Same again?” Lucy looked at Ona.
“It’s my turn. I’ll get this.” Ona shot up, going down to the bar before Lucy could argue.
Once the Spaniard was gone all three of the girls looked at Lucy, smirks on their faces.
“What?” Lucy looked at her friends.
“Oh come off it Luce, you like the girl.” Jordan nudged Lucy’s arm.
“What? No I don’t.” The brunette tried to defend herself.
She looked at Jill, hoping for some back up.
“I’m staying out of it. I’ve already said enough.“ She shook her head putting her coat on.
“Come on Bronzey. You can tell just by the way you look at her.” Demi laughed.
The smirk that creeped on her lips gave her feelings away.
“Is it that obvious?”
All three girls smiled happily at the brunette.
“Awww our girls got a crush.” Jordan grabbed the back of Lucy’s neck, making the girl duck her head.
“Get off.” She laughed.
“She’s single.” Demi quirked.
“Yeah but I don’t even know if she’s into girls.”
All three of the girls laughed hard then.
“Come on Luce, I thought you was a detective. The girl looks at you like you’re the best thing since sliced bread. I think this its a mutual feeling.” Jill lightly chuckled.
Lucy scoffed. “I doubt that.”
Before the girls could harass Lucy anymore Ona returned.
“Right I’m off. I hope you’ve enjoyed your first week Ona. The real work starts on Wednesday.” Jill winked.
“Sii, I’m looking forward to it. And thank you girls for making me feel so welcome. I appreciate it.” Ona smiled at the girls.
“It’s been a pleasure Ona.” Jordan smiled.
“Yeah, you fit in so well Ona, so glad we got you on our team.” Demi grabbed Ona’s shoulder.
“Look after her Bronze.” Jill pointed at the older brunette.
“Oh, she will.” Jordan winked at Lucy.
Ona didn’t miss the comment, or the way Lucy’s face went a shade of pink. Before Lucy could think of a come back the girls were gone.
Suddenly the room became quiet and the air between, Lucy and Ona felt thick. It was the first time Lucy had felt nervous, they had never been alone before, with no one sticking their nose into their conversations.
Ona was buzzing, don’t get her wrong, she loved getting to know her other colleges, loved being a part of the team but she had wanted some alone time with Lucy since she met her.
The fire made a loud cracking noise, the pub still had a few people nursing their drinks.
Lucy had forgotten all words, she hadn’t been able to think about nothing else since this girl came into her life only four days ago, and now her mind had gone blank.
After ten seconds of silence that actually felt like hours, finally Lucy’s brain woke up.
“So speaking about first weeks, how has yours been?”
Ona took a sip of her new drink, smiling.
“It’s been amazing. Everyone has been so friendly, so welcoming. It’s been great.”
Lucy nodded, smiling. She was happy to hear Ona was feeling welcome, she understood it was hard to start a new job anywhere.
“You especially have made me feel so welcome, I’m really happy that you’re my partner Lucy.”
Ona’s smile was shy, she looked at Lucy with those big beautiful brown eyes.
Lucy’s face had definitely changed in colour, she couldn’t hold back the dorky smile that plastered her face.
“I’m glad I have.”
Lucy smiled with her brilliant teeth.
“And yeah, you’re not too bad yourself. Definitely need to get you better at making tea, then you’ll be perfect.” She smiled cheekly at Ona.
Ona laughed hard. “Aye it’s not that bad!”
Lucy drank her drink, looking around making a point to not look at Ona.
“You’ll have to teach me.” Ona didn’t mean to sound sexy, but Lucy couldn’t help but think her voice got an octave lower.
Lucy pointed between herself and Ona. “If this is gong to work, then yeah, I’ll teach you.”
“Fine.” Ona smiled.
“Good.”
“Great.”
“Perfect.”
“No puedo esperar.” (I can’t wait)
Ona definitely lowered her voice that time. Lucy felt the heat rise up in her cheeks. Lucy laughed trying to gain her nerve back. She tried to change the subject before her face went any redder.
“Are you going back to Spain for Christmas?”
Ona’s smile dropped, she hadn’t told anyone the real reason for leaving Spain. It wasn’t because she was ashamed, it was just still a hard thing for her to digest. But if she could tell anyone Lucy would be the best person.
“No, I, ……. my parents don’t talk to me because I am gay.”
Lucy’s own smile dropped. She could see the sadness in Ona’s eyes, it broke her heart.
“Oh, Ona. I’m so sorry. When did they do that?”
“It happened when I was 19. They found out and kicked me out of my home. They blocked me and never spoke to me again. So I moved here. I wanted to move here at some point anyways, but it was sooner than I’d have liked.”
Lucy could feel her own tears well in her eyes.
“Have you spoken to them since?”
Ona looked down at her drink.
“After a year of living here I went back to Spain, to see if they would speak to me. But when I got to my home my mum closed the door on my face. I tried to reach out in many ways but they won’t talk to me.”
Lucy couldn’t believe how anyone could purposefully hurt the girl in front of her, let alone her own parents. It made her angry but Ona didn’t need that kind of response. She reached out her hand, gently grabbing Ona’s.
“I know we haven’t known each other that long but I am here if you ever wanna talk. Or if you ever just want an ear, I’m all yours.”
Ona smiled at Lucy, she heard everything she had said but mostly ‘I’m yours’ stood out most to her. “Thank you Lucy. I appreciate it.”
Lucy squeezed Ona’s hand, not ever wanting to let go, her hand felt so small and delicate in her own.
“Hi guys we’re closing up now.” The girl from behind the bar shouted loudly.
The last thing she wanted to do was leave Ona now. She wanted to do nothing else then scoop the girl up and hug her until she could smile again, even then Lucy wouldn’t want to let go.
“I guess we better leave.” Ona smiled sadly.
“You hungry?”
Ona nodded. “Starving.”
“Do you like chips?”
Ona nodded again, gaining back a smile.
“Right, come on then. I know the best place.”
——————-
“Okay don’t tell no one but I prefer curry sauce with my chips, and as a northerner that’s a bit of a crime. The northerners prefer gravy, I like both but the curry sauce just tastes so good.”
“I don’t think I’ve had it with chips before.”
“What? Okay, I’m about to blow your mind Battle.”
Ona laughed hard, she loved this excited version of Lucy, it probably was the fact that they were both tipsy and not in the office but it was nice to see the girl relaxed.
They left the chippy with their precious chips in hand.
“There’s a bench nearby if you want to eat there?”
“Yes, let’s do that. I want to give my full attention to your curry sauce.” Ona giggled.
“Thats what I like to hear. It’s just five minutes from here. It’s worth the walk.”
Ona followed Lucy down the coberrly streets of London. She watched as some business men stumbled into a black cab as they passed a posh looking restaurant.
They came to a busy road, with a few more pubs and bars lining the street. She felt Lucy link her arm into hers as she guided them easily through the crowds. Her heart skipped three beats from the simple gesture, just like it did in the pub when Lucy took her hand.
“Just down here.”
They got to a dark stair case leading down, Ona followed the older women, she would follow her anywhere at this point, no questions asked.
And as they got down the steps she saw why Lucy brought her here.
It was the perfect skylight of London. Ona had lived in London for nearly 5 years. She had seen the skylight in many different ways. Different times of the day, different seasons, different angles but this was the prettiest she’d ever seen it.
“Wow! It’s beautiful.”
“Yeah.” Lucy was looking at Ona. Agreeing with both views.
“I come here sometimes when I need to think. Or just needing some time alone. Come sit.”
They sat on the bench facing the Thames, the lights of London lighting up the sky.
“Right, get your chip and dip.”
Lucy held out the curry sauce.
Ona dipped a thick chip in the sauce, she already liked the smell of it, so she hoped she’d like it. And she did, she loved it.
“Oh wow, that’s so good.” She dipped another chip.
“Yes! I knew you’d like it. Get in.”
Lucy dipped her own chip then, a satisfactory smile on her face.
Ona watched the girl, smiling at her. There was something about Lucy, something that seemed like a comfort that she had known before, a comfort she hadn’t felt in years.
The girls spoke about random things, laughing at the one another as they ate their chips.
Once they had finished their food a comfortable silence settled between them.
Until Ona yawned.
“Yeah, it’s late. Where are you from here? We can maybe share an Uber” Lucy picked up her phone.
“I’m in Battersea.”
Lucy’s eyes brightened. “I’m in Wandsworth. Nearly neighbours.”
Ona loved the thought of them being so close. She couldn’t help but wonder if Lucy would ever meet up with her on a weekend.
Ona gave Lucy her address for the Uber.
“Cool, they’ll be here in two minutes.”
They walked to the pick up destination, both suddenly quiet. It felt like neither girl wanted the night to end.
The Uber picked them up, both girls jumping in the back. It was at least a 20 minute drive to get home, so Ona grabbed the aux cord.
She put on Rosalía - BESO. Lucy turned to her smiling. The older brunette began to sing perfect Spanish like it was nothing. Ona’s mouth fell open in complete surprise.
“What? You can speak Spanish?”
Lucy laughed at the girls shock. “Yeah a little bit.”
She didn’t know why but it turned Ona on to know Lucy could speak Spanish, not just Spanish but Catalonian, it was hot.
The girls sang mostly to Rosalia all the way. Lucy was first the be dropped off. She turned to Ona.
“Night Ona. I’ll see you Tuesday.”
“Lucy wait, I should have your number.”
“Oh yeah, you should. Pass it here.”
Ona handed her phone and Lucy put her number in it, she called her phone to save Ona’s.
“Text me when you’re in please.”
“I will.” Ona smiled at the older women.
Lucy slid out the car and walked towards her home. Ona and the Uber driver watched as she walked into her house.
As soon as Ona got in she texted Lucy to tell her she was home.
Ona - Hola! I’m home. I owe you for the ride x
Lucy replied instantly .
Lucy - don’t worry about it x
Lucy - actually you can pay me back by making better teas 🤔 x
Ona - Fine! I’ll do better! I’ll make your tea better then you do for yourself 💪 x
Lucy laughed to herself.
Lucy - hmmm bit confident, we’ll see x
Ona - got to be confident in yourself 💅🏼 thank you for a good night Lucy, I really enjoyed myself xx
Lucy - you’re right! And you’re welcome, I really enjoyed myself too. And always here if you need a chat xx
Ona - thank you Lucy ❤️ good night xx
Lucy - good night xx

Tried replicating Spooky Month's style with an AU! I think I did alright, though I need to use a smaller brush next time. It's an AU where everything is the same, except Lila and Bob switch places, with Bob being Skid's adopted dad and Lila the "missing" mother who's actually a higher up cult official. She's still his bio mom tho. There's more lore I've thought of, but it's still a bit W.I.P. Also, I originally got inspired by an edit I saw of something like this on YouTube, but apparently it was stolen???? Yet no comments pointing it out said from where??? So idk who to credit for og idea, sorry! >>" Anyway, hope you guys like it!
