Love finds infinite ways and possibilities to express itself, and romantic love is one of them, where two hearts intertwine and, over time and depth, can merge into one. Those hearts can beat for each other, in different bodies or not.

And it is from that reality, from that promise, that I begin this journey with you: love is unique but manifests itself in diverse and rich paths, just as the marigold flower is finite in its unity, it is also infinite in its petals and in its possibilities to adorn us and bring us joy with its beauty.

The enamored girls you see were inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Mexico, particularly in an artistic form: ballet folklórico. ✨♥️

The folkloric ballet of Mexico is a form of dance that celebrates the cultural traditions, music, and typical costumes of the various regions of Mexico and combines elements of dance, music, costumes, and storytelling to represent the history and identity of Mexico.

It uses colorful and striking costumes that reflect the cultural richness and tradition of each region. The dances presented include the Jarabe Tapatío (also known as the "jarabe dance" or "Mexican jarabe"), the Dance of the Little Old Men, the Dance of the Flyers, the Dance of the Chinelos, among others.

Our girls wear typical dresses from the province of Jalisco, and in the background stands out what I consider the most emblematic flower of Mexico, the marigold, which, for me, represents the possibilities of love's manifestation. ✨🥰

They will probably appear here more often, do you have any names in mind for them? 🤔

I don’t normally buy D&D manuals (especially so close to the release date because I’m not made of money) but I picked up Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel and I haven’t been disappointed. Each chapter/adventure was written by someone with ties to the culture and mythology/folklore that it’s based on so they all have pronunciation guides like this one that is clearly written by un escritor mexicano which made my former Spanish major heart sing. Really cool concept, Wizards!

Aesthetics: I’m quite obsessed with the concept of aesthetics in the current age of social media and will probably write about it quite a bit. For those interested in aesthetics, my aesthetic has been called by those who know me, a mixture of chaotic/dark academia meets punk all tied in a western bolo tie. Do with that what you will. 

Fashion: I have always had an interest in fashion and garment construction, during the March 2020 quarantine, I started working on starting a brand as a way to stay busy. Here’s my fashion sideblog @houseofapotheosis. 

Films: A wide variety of films. I don’t use it too much but if we’re mutuals and you want my Letterboxd, ask!

Music: My music taste runs rather diverse, but I tend to fall into more alternative genres. My current most listened to spotify playlist is here.

Politics: I will bring up politics when I feel necessary because it is necessary. All are welcome here and discussions are always ready to be had as long as all parties are respectful and civil. This is not a space which supports conservative or alt-right beliefs. 

Philosophy:  Not much to say, but I’m always interested in doing philosophical deep dives and want to use my philosophy degree for something. 

Reading: reading is my lifeforce and will always bring up a reason to rant about books. Here’s my StoryGraph. 

Religion: I love talking about religion and spirituality and will probably discuss it at length when I want to. This is to say that people of all religions and spiritualities are welcome here and kindness, common sense, and civility are expected. If you are ever curious about my thoughts on religion or spirituality asks and messages are always open.

The short and simple, I started this blog as a way to rebuild myself after a strong bout of burnout. I’ve been hyper driven and ambitious since I was quite young and have always struggled with the workhorse mentality. I haven’t had a moment of rest probably ever and want to use this blog as a way to develop a healthy relationship with academics, career, and myself. Along the road I hope to share my experiences and help others that are going through similar things.

Yui Sakamoto: el surrealismo mexicano desde japón.

De origen japonés, Yui Sakamoto es uno de los artistas contemporáneos que ha encontrado en el surrealismo el espacio idóneo para la creación de su arte.

Este pintor y escultor (de alto impacto) tuvo su primer acercamiento al arte a través de su gusto por el anime,-como buen japonés-. Durante el colegio se adentró al conocimiento de la técnica básica de las artes plásticas, es decir, como pintar al oleo, sobre color, acrílico, etc. Sin embargo, los pilares de su proceso creativo, podrían encontrarse en su visita a Italia, en donde estudió arte sacro, lo que le permitió mejorar su técnica. Finalmente, llega a México con su padre en donde continuó con sus estudios sobre el arte en Monterrey.

Considero que la parte más interesante de su obra, reside en sus contrastes vivenciales. Su interés por la pintura occidental; el acercamiento y estudio de la religión desde el arte, a pesar de manifestar no pertenecer a ningún tipo de culto; el gusto por el arte abstracto aunque sus creaciones parecieran acercarse un poco más a lo figurativo; sus residencias artísticas. Por nombrar algunos.

Particularmente, me sorprende mucho su re interpretación de elementos representativos del folklor mexicano. Porque además de estar compuestos de este surrealismo posmoderno, integra elementos de origen asiático pero no solo de japón.

El conocimiento de la religión occidental, de la historia mundial y el surrealismo que ha adoptado como suyo han dado como resultado obras poco úsales, llenas de narrativa, critica y onirismo.

Este artista super joven tiene varias etapas que yo considero muy diferentes entre ellas, personalmente, la única que no me gusta es una que tiene mucha inspiración -o por lo menos eso parece- en Dalí, pues es de mis artistas menos favoritos.

Pero en general su obra se me hace muy interesante porque cada vez que la vuelves a ver, encuentras algo nuevo: figuras humanas que se integran y desintegran entre colores vivos formando parte de un paisaje. Espacios que nos remontan al bajo astral o infierno pero que son tan familiares que podríamos asumir forman parte de la tierra, de la 3D. Dioses mexicas hibridados con seres de otras culturas, espacios y elementos cotidianos en lugares inusuales. Criticas a la guerra, a los humanos, a la historia universal y a la religión fundidos en espacios vibrantes. Conexiones entre el universo y la tierra. Preguntas humanas trasladadas al lienzo. Esculturas de seres que parecieran haber existido.

CARACTERISTICAS DEL ROMANTICISMO MEXICANO

La pasión como eje del pensamiento y de la acción, evolucionada desde el sentimentalismo prerromántico.

Individualismo. El eje narrativo del ser humano y sus emociones (manifestación del “yo”).

Visión subjetiva de la realidad: escritura exaltada de los sufrimientos y alegrías; postura pesimista según las circunstancias; el paisaje y el clima como reflejo del estado de ánimo (soleado, colorido, radiante; melancólico, gris, nocturno, tormentoso, lúgubre, amenazador,  etc.), el máximo valor de la ética romántica es la libertad y su búsqueda (emocional, creadora, mental, sociopolítica).

Arte: personajes realistas que reflejan costumbres que la revolución industrial y la emigración del campo a la ciudad van perdiendo (cuadro de costumbres), arcaísmos, lenguaje coloquial, junto con la evasión en el espacio (la naturaleza americana o africana, hindú, oriental...) y el tiempo (Edad Media) y por drogas como el láudano y el opio.

Estética que exalta lo sublime o misterioso por encima de la fría y perfecta belleza clásica. Domina lo incompleto, espontáneo e imperfecto sobre lo completo, pensado y perfecto; la originalidad sobre la imitación de modelos clásicos o del renacimiento; ya no se pueden escribir obras maestras "con receta" y con preceptivas repetidoras. Primacía del sentimiento como criterio del gusto, al ser más individualizador que el criterio generalizador y abstracto de la razón. Es un arte abierto, con raíz en la inspiración, no en la imitación neoclásica.

El ansia de libertad exige romper el precepto aristotélico de las tres unidades (acción, tiempo y lugar) que se seguía en el teatro, dando lugar al llamado drama romántico, y además la de estilo que añadieron los franceses: se mezcla lo trágico y lo cómico, la prosa y el verso, se dejan pasajes con puntos suspensivos para que se pueda añadir... se innova en la métrica procurando variar el tipo de verso y estrofa: domina la polimetría. Se adaptan estrofas de métricas extranjeras, las crean ex novo o vuelven a utilizar las de la Edad Media. Se usa también el verso hipercorto. Al promoverse la lírica se puede decir que es el romanticismo el siglo de oro de la poesía lírica. También crea nuevos géneros: el ya citado drama romántico, la oriental, la novela histórica, la novela gótica o de terror, el cuadro de costumbres, la leyenda, la balada, la el artículo de opinión satírico...

La búsqueda del misterio origina una estética donde abunda lo lúgubre: la noche, los cementerios, las ruinas (que representan la victoria del tiempo y de la naturaleza sobre una civilización presuntamente eterna), el antes llamado "mal gusto", la violencia, los temas tabú sobre todo en el teatro, como el tiranicidio, el suicidio, los ambientes marginales, los fantasmas, los demonios, las criaturas sobrenaturales como los duendes o las hadas, los milagros...

La imaginación sobre la razón (un mundo más personal, metafórico y libre; repleto de fantasías). El héroe romántico es un rebelde que prefiere la libertad y lo natural frente a las normas y la sociedad. Se ponen de moda arquetipos de protagonistas rebeldes o abatidos por el destino, como el antihéroe, Prometeo, don Juan, el libertino, el bandolero, pirata...

Rechazo a sistemas dogmáticos, absolutistas y reglados como la religión. Defensa del amor libre.

Frente al universalismo y cosmopolitismo de la Ilustración, se reivindica el nacionalismo, el regionalismo, el pasado local, la patria chica y sus antes despreciados idiomas, dialectos y tradiciones como fuente de identidad, inspiración y enseñanza (el gaélico, el escocés, el provenzal, el gallego, el catalán, el flamenco, el romanche, ruso, ucraniano y bielorruso...).

Como consecuencia del subjetivismo, reivindicación y búsqueda de una expresión nacional: se reivindican las tradiciones populares o folklore, los idiomas regionales que han dejado de tener cultivo literario vuelven a escribirse literariamente; la poesía colectiva popular tradicional, las leyendas, los relatos feéricos, los cuentos populares, que se empiezan a recoger y estudiar en colecciones.
